Masters of The Fourth Holy Grail War

    Bruce Wayne

Gotham Billionare
Batman before upgrade with Caster
Batman after upgrade with Caster
Bruce Wayne, or Batman, is the Master of Caster in the Fourth Holy Grail War.

  • Awesome by Analysis: Bruce is both a fighter and a detective. He observes both his surrounding area and his opponents to get any advantage over them.

  • Berserk Button: Anything that touches on his parents very much gets Bruce angry.

  • Crazy-Prepared: Once Bruce realizes he's in a Holy Grail War, he sets out to get as much equipment and funds to support himself.

  • Dark and Troubled Past: Like all iterations, his parents dying is what sets Bruce off to become Batman.

  • Does Not Like Magic: Upon entering the Fuyuki Holy Grail War, Bruce is less than pleased as while he has some contingencies for it, he'd rather not deal with magecraft in general.

  • Dramatic Irony: Bruce in general tries to avoid magecraft due to its nature. He ends up in the Holy grail War and summons Servant Caster, Da Vinci.

  • Experienced Protagonist: By the time he enters the Holy Grail War, Bruce already has over nine years of crime-fighting skills and has dealt with his fair share of criminals, both ordinary and supernatural.

  • Familiar: Upon participating in the Holy Grail War, Bruce summons Caster, Da Vinci.

  • Good Is Not Soft: Bruce may never kill people, but he has no problem injuring them painfully.

  • Had to Be Sharp: While Batman had already trained himself greatly to fight crime, as super-villains began appearing, he needed to keep up both his skills and enhance his suit to survive against them. Even adjusting his armor to ensure he kept his speed when facing those with formidable might.

  • Heroic RRoD: After facing Gilgamesh, who throws weapon after weapon at him, Batman has no choice but to dodge with all his might and using Reinforcement Magecraft to help. Just the sheer effort to survive overloads his suit and puts immense strain on his body. By the time he escapes in the Batmobile, the pain forces him unconscious.

  • Inept Mage: During his training, it's suggested that in his attempt to control his "Chi", Bruce awakened his latent magic circuits by accident. This allows him to unwittingly make a contract with Caster. Though beyond this, Bruce has no formal training in magecraft nor has any desire to learn such things.

  • It's Personal: Bruce holds a grudge against Kiritsugu for causing a tragedy known as the "Wayne Plaza Bombing" and escaping justice. Upon discovering his location in Fuyuki, Bruce heads out to apprehend him.

  • Kill Sat: Using some Wayne Satellites and the magecraft set up by Da Vinci, Batman uses this against Gilgamesh to try and kill the Servant who's on his tail, causing a lot of damage in the surrounding area at the docks. It doesn't kill Gilgamesh.

  • Not So Above It All: Despite being a no-nonsense, anti-social, and workaholic person, after setting up a base with Caster, Bruce muses if everything is set up. It just needed a animatronic dinosaur and giant penny to be like home.

  • Parents as People: Bruce genuinely cares for his adopted sons. Unfortunately, his inability to express his emotions, stubbornness, causes rifts between them.

  • Power Armor: Thanks to Da Vinci, Batman finds his new suit to have more features and capability that leaves even him impressed.

  • Seen It All: While Servants and the Holy Grail War are new to Batman, as Da Vinci notes, Batman doesn't seem fazed by the oddity Servants are in general and how unnatural they are by biological/scientific standards. At most, when studying Assassin, Batman agrees he can't risk facing them head on.

  • Strong and Skilled: Having trained himself since his youth, Bruce is above peak human strength in mind and body. Many criminals acknowledging he has the fighting skills and brain to defeat many criminals without breaking a sweat.

  • Sympathy for the Devil: Downplayed. For the most part, Bruce has no care for villains like Penguin. However, he does acknowledge some crooks, even if he beats them, are simply a byproduct of poor circumstances who have little choice but to rob. Feeling guilty that he ended up getting Matches Malone killed by his own actions.

  • The Dreaded: After over a decade of heroism, the older crooks rightfully fear Batman. The younger ones who don't quickly follow suit.

  • Thou Shall Not Kill: While Batman may injure and hospitalize his enemies, he has no desire to kill anyone. This includes even the other six Masters in the HGW.

  • Unskilled, but Strong: When it comes to magecraft Batman is squarely this. While he does have magecraft that can, if used right, affect even a Servant, he's only borrowing the knowledge and skills of magecraft from Caster and Zatanna, two powerful magus of their own right. His personal knowledge and experience with magecraft is limited for himself and against other actual magus.
    Kiritsugu Emiya
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eea3199d00d31139fc35667b957b59a8.jpg
The Magus Killer and Master of the Einzbern Family
Kiritsugu Emiya is the Master of Saber in the Fourth Holy Grail War.

  • Adaptational Badass: Where in canon, Kiritsugu left Avalon with Irisviel, here, he decides to use it for himself much earlier. This means that after getting beaten down by Batman, he's healing despite the many broken bones he has and uses it to his advantage.

  • Crippling Overspecialization: Downplayed. Kiritsugu ensures he can face just about anybody. Be it human or magus. However, as he's used to magi, not to mention that Batman's abilities to ensure there's little information about him, forces Kiritsugu to forgoe fighting Batman.

  • Curb-Stomp Battle: When he faces Batman at the docks, the 'fight' is little more but Kiritsugu getting his ass beaten down and many many injuries. Even when using Avalon to heal himself and make a surprise attack, Batman considered it and just beat him up again.

  • Fake Faint: As Batman beats down on him, Kiritsugu quickly decides to allow himself to get injured during half the duration when realizing he can't win. Thankfully, he has Avalon to heal him and his magecraft to fake being knocked out. He tricks Batman thanks to this and strikes when least expected. Doesn't help him one bit.

  • Healing Factor: Thanks to having Avalon inside him, Kiritsugu heals from grave injuries that Batman gives him. It also means he can push his magecraft a bit farther like canon.

  • Logical Weakness: While not too big of a weakness, it's implied that Batman's attacks on him were more painful than expected. Primarily since the attacks struck were where the ribs should have defended Kiritsugu. Ribs he lacks due to his mentor taking out some of them for his Origin Bullets.

  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: One of the reasons Kiritsugu escaped justice was because, compared to Batman's rogues gallery, Kiritsugu struck from the shadows and simply left. Leaving little clues so that by the time Batman discovered his role, it was too late to catch him.

  • The One That Got Away: Very much non-romantic and literal. Kiritsugu being the only criminal that escaped Batman after bombing Wayne Plaza.

  • The Needs of the Many: Kills the few to save the many. Having bombed Wayne Plaza to kill a magus, even if there were people around to ensure the magus didn't escape.

  • The Scapegoat: Ends up becoming this as Batman, using a false persona, beats up the local crooks in Fuyuki and claims Kiritsugu sent him. Both to make movement for Kiritsugu difficult, and slight payback for his dealings with Penguin.
    Tokiomi Tohsaka
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tohsakatokiomi6001030162.jpg
Head and Master of the Tohsaka Family
Tokiomi Tohsaka is the Master of Archer in the Fourth Holy Grail War.

  • The Chessmaster: Sorta. Kirei notes that Tokiomi isn't a horrible strategist in general. Having prepared adequately enough for the Holy Grail War and was even the one suggesting to use Assassin's other personalities as spies. Tokiomi, however, fails in accounting small details that Kirei has to deal with.

  • Underestimating Badassery: When Tokiomi compares notes between Batman and Kiritsugu, he believes the latter to be more dangerous. Granted, Kiritsugu does have a reputation as a Magus Killer, but still dismisses Batman regardless.
    Kariya Matou
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/91dadcb3539058050eec91a065075966cc147e49r1_2048_1144v2_uhq.jpg
Master of the Matou Family
Kariya Matou is the Master of Berserker in the Fourth Holy Grail War.
    Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ce185.jpeg
Official Master from the Clock Tower
Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald is the Master of Lancer in the Fourth Holy Grail War.

  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Maybe not evil per say, but seeing Lancer willing to give up a wish just to serve him, even though he's a Heroic Spirit, caused Kayneth's to be only baffled. This causes their relationship to deteriorate.

  • Godzilla Threshold: When Saber is about to land a death blow on Lancer, Kayneth uses one of his Command Seals to save him just in time.

  • Jerkass to One: While not a pleasant guy with others, especially Waver, Kayneth goes extra on Lancer. Both because he can't understand Lancer being so noble and because his fiance clearly has a crush on the Heroic Spirit. Kayneth ups his jerkassery on that part.

  • The Archmage: Ignoring his pride and arrogance, Kayneth is a genuinely competent magus. Rivaled only by Tokiomi during the Holy Grail War. It's because of this he noticed something was strange at the docks, caused by Batman setting up a Bounded Field trap, and left while leaving a decoy.
    Waver Velvet
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/images_4630.jpeg
Intruder Master from the Clock Tower
Waver Velvet is the Master of Rider in the Fourth Holy Grail War.
    Kirei Kotomine
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fa0e5cd9bc13aae5865fe0ad8d0024b6.jpg
Man of Faith
Kirei Kotomine is the Master of Assassin in the Fourth Holy Grail War.

  • Didn't See That Coming: Kirei expected many things during the Holy Grail War. He didn't expect a man in a bat costume capturing and escaping with an Assassin copy, leaving him baffled.

  • Villain Takes an Interest: Maybe not a villain at the moment, but after seeing Batman's profile, Kirei decides to add the hero onto his list to speak with alongside Kiritsugu.

Servants of The Fourth Holy Grail War

The Universal Genius
Da Vinci Before Death
Leonardo Da Vinci is the Servant of Bruce Wayne in the Fourth Holy Grail War.

  • Connected All Along: In Giovanni's side-story, it's revealed that some of Da Vinci's work actually helped Giovanni in his quest to ensure his family knowledge wasn't lost.

  • Didn't Think This Through: While Da Vinci means well, and only wants to help Bruce during the war, how she does it very almost breaches the fragile trust Bruce barley has with her. Primarily, she hacks into his very sensitive Bat Computer, copies all the information he has on it, and overlooks his files, technology, and what he's done during his career. Thankfully, Bruce reigns in using a Command Seal when he discovers this with Da Vinci acknowledging she might have overdone it.

  • Doing It for the Art: Naturally, Da Vinci loves art and ensured to take up scientific study and observe anatomy just so they can improve their skill as an artist even further. Helping Bruce making new costumes is just as much fun for Da Vinci as painting.

  • For Science!: Da Vinci enjoys technology, and for the most part loves innovation be it science or architect. As such, she tries to help Bruce by upgrading his gear using the magecraft knowledge she has. Though she does hack into his files and makes these upgrades to do this without asking, something she reflects on as she got too caught up in her desire to improve Bruce's current technology.

  • Gender Bender: Willingly alters themselves to become a woman, much to Bruce's confusion.

  • Humble Hero: Despite showing off her genius (and also being a bit smug about it), Da Vinci doesn't deny past accomplishments of other geniuses, such as Archimedes of Syracuse.

  • Magitek: Despite being a great scientist, Da Vinci is also a magus. As such, when she improves Bruce's technology and suits, she uses her magecraft knowledge to upgrade them into being more efficient that impresses even Bruce.

  • Magnum Opus: While originally making the Mona Lisa for some money, after death and gaining knowledge from the Throne, Da Vinci views the Mona Lisa as her great work and representation of human beauty's life and love.

  • Mundane Object Amazement: While Da Vinci is informed of the general knowledge on modern technology from the Throne, she is vastly impressed by Bruce's gear and technology. Fascinated by how much technology has improved since her time and enjoys analyzing the technology when she can.

  • Oh, Crap!: When she sees Gilgamesh about to make a move, on her Master she warns Bruce to get out of the way.

  • Science Wizard: Da Vinci is not only a technological genius but knows magecraft to support Bruce in the Holy Grail War.

  • Talented, but Trained: While Da Vinci may be a great genius in both science and magecraft, she works very hard to ensure she doesn't fall behind as science progresses.

  • The Cracker: To support Bruce, Da Vinci shows her hacking skills by using it on the Bat Computer to set up its systems in Fuyuki. Defeating Oracle who attempts to stop her.
    Saber
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/092ec1a338744be97a68697dfe0bdb21121eef56_hq.jpg
The King of Knights
Artoria Pendragon is the Servant of Kiritsugu Emiya in the Fourth Holy Grail War.

  • Heroic Resolve: When gravity is forced down on her and making Saber collapse, she just musters up her will and slowly stands back up again.

  • Human Shield: When the laser from space hits, Saber defends Irisviel as best she can from the sheer heat produced from the attack.

  • Innate Night Vision: Subverted. Saber can't actually see in pure darkness, but thanks to Instinct, she can still act and move from attacks thrown at her.
    Archer
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gilgamesh_fate_stay_night_1.png
The King of Heroes
Gilgamesh is the Servant of Tokiomi Tohsaka in the Fourth Holy Grail War.

  • Berserk Button: Touching his weapons like Berserker does is a way to get him mad.

  • Light 'em Up: Like his myth, Gilgamesh can produce light from his body. Something he uses to see in the darkness Da Vinci casted at the docks.

  • Mundane Utility: What's one of the answers Gilgamesh utilizes to see in the dark beyond his own glowing body? Using the very bright Gate of Babylon to help out.

  • No-Sell: Throughout the dock battle, even with Batman and Da Vinci's preparations, Gilgamesh literally has an answer to all of them. A bounded field plunging everyone in the dark? He lights himself up and uses the Gate of Babylon's as a light source. Gravity trying to bring him down? Pure will power to overcome it. Something akin to a satellite laser slamming down on him?! Aside from some burns, his Gate of Babylon produces many defensive Noble Phantasms to protect him.

  • Tranquil Fury: After taking an attack from space, Gilgamesh is seemingly calm. He opens up hundreds of portals and only through Tokiomi does he not just kill everyone around him.

  • Villain Takes an Interest: When seeing Batman, Gilgamesh finds the former amusing enough to take note of him. Considering this is Gilgamesh, this is far from good. Especially as Gilgamesh's first act is to 'test' Batman by throwing weapons that forces Batman to dodge with all his might.

  • Walking Armory: Has so many weapons that it shocks everyone that sees it. He also has defensive gear which can help him out.

  • Who Dares?: The idea that someone tries to make him kneel through gravity manipulation very much pisses the King of Heroes off.
    Berserker
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/d0374fbcfd2bda541accfa66db8efaff7cbebbb8v2_00.jpg
The Knight of The Lake
Lancelot Du Lac is the Servant of Kariya Matou in the Fourth Holy Grail War.
    Lancer
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/137d16086886b85e3cada9884f057613.jpg
Diarmuid of the Love Spot
Diarmuid Ua Duibhne is the Servant of Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald in the Fourth Holy Grail War.

  • Anti-Magic: Lancer's red spear negates magic from its tip. Deadly for armor that uses magecraft.

  • Nice Guy: Is a very good person in general with a lot of respect and honor. note

  • Wound That Will Not Heal: Can use his yellow spear to make wounds that cannot heal naturally or magically.
    Rider
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/iskandar2.jpeg
The King of Conquerors
Iskandar, also known as Alexander The Great, is the Servant of Waver Velvet in the Fourth Holy Grail War.

  • Dumb Muscle: Subverted. While he might act a bit oppressive, Rider is a genuine leader who knows tactics and values knowledge. As such, he asks Waver what he actually knows of Assassin's supposed death to get as much information as possible to plan.

  • Firearms Are Revolutionary: Has taken an interest in modern weapons and vehicles. Very much wouldn't mind getting them for his campaign to conquer.

  • The Strategist: Like in life, Iskandar was a leader and is far from stupid. When cast in the dark, he finds a solution to his predicament by using the lightning produced by his Gorgon Wheel as a basic form of sonar to 'see'. Even Da Vinci is impressed by this method.
    Assassin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/28eddaca4a50c66880ac2d873f3b33d7657dacf9v2_hq.jpg
One of the Old Men of the Mountain
Hassan-i-Sabbah, also known as Hassan of the Hundred Faces, is the Servant of Kirei Kotomine in the Fourth Holy Grail War.

  • Always Someone Better: As Assassin angrily discovers, Batman is this to them. Made worse with the humiliation they felt by the fact a mere human was their superior in skill, technique, and making a quick escape, which really upsets them.

  • Honor Before Reason: After finding Batman, Assassin eventually nearly kills the hero through attrition and superior strength. But as the sun rises, they leave as they still hold some of their pride as an Assassin which must never be seen. They also felt a small amount of shame that they only nearly bested him not in terms of skill, but simply because they were stronger as a Servant.

  • I Can't Sense Their Presence: With their Presence Concealment Skill, it makes spotting them very difficult. Something Bruce is wary of.

  • Literal Split Personality: Can make multiple bodies of themselves despite being only one Assassin. Useful for spying or surrounding, though it leaves them weaker than normal.

  • Motive Decay: At first, after their loss against Batman, Hundred-Face tried keeping an eye on him and maybe redeem themselves. After Batman, in a short-amount of time at that, constantly gets away, displays superior skill, and even manages to last against them in a fight causes Hundred-Face to develop a need to defeat Batman.

  • The Worf Effect: Assassin is already considered weak for a Servant, but even then they're still stronger than any human, including Bruce. Unfortunately for them, Bruce uses borrowed spells from Zatanna, who has magecraft from the Age of Gods against them. This allows Bruce to capture one of them for study and escape.

Others

Characters that make a direct appearance

    Ryuunosuke Uryuu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/db3e3a2919cc79ffac6b10d485294c11f48d46a8r1_720_1147v2_uhq.jpg
Fuyuki's Serial Killer
  • Demoted to Extra: He was one of the Masters in Fate/Zero. Here, he gets found and beaten by Batman before being sent to jail, with his place as Master taken by Bruce.

  • For the Evulz: As Batman notes, Ryuunosuke's murders all stem from curiosity and pleasure.

  • Mask of Sanity: Manages to fool people by pretending to be a normal person and killing them when they're not aware. Nearly kills a girl who let him into her home until Batman arrives.

  • They Look Just Like Everyone Else!: One of the main reasons that Ryuunosuke has never been caught is because, as Batman notes, he looks very ordinary and has the skills of a professional when cleaning up his murders.

  • Too Dumb to Live: Downplayed. When Batman interrupts Ryuunosuke's attempted murder, the latter awes in Batman's suit instead of running away from being caught. He's immediately beaten and left to be found by the cops.
    Zatanna Zatara
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/justice_league_dark_futures_end_vol_1_1_present_textless.jpeg
The Stage Illusionist
  • Blue Blood: Zatanna comes from a lineage that dates back all the way to the Age of Gods.

  • Born Winner: A daughter of two powerful magi. One who's family line dates to the Age of Gods, the other who is a magus of the Wandering Sea. Naturally, Zatanna has powerful magecraft and inherited many artifacts and knowledge from both of them.

  • Dreaming of Things to Come: Zatanna wakes up when dreaming of Bruce encountering what is heavily implied to be Angra Mainyu, All the World's Evils. Though she is uncertain of the validity due to having recently faced Pretali who used illusions against her.

  • Good Is Not Soft: Is a genuinely good person who wants to help people. Upon facing and dealing with Francois Prelati, Zatanna uses the Schrödinger's Noose, a magical artifact that immobilizes the target in a strange undying state, on them.

  • Good Parents: While Zatanna's relationship with her mother was...distant, her father made up for it and she thinks fondly of him. While her mother sacrificed herself to save Zatanna from an Outer God that tried entering the world.

  • I Choose to Stay: Like her father, Zatanna also refused to join the Wandering Sea.

  • Locked Out of the Loop: While Zatanna knew of some of her father's exploits, she never knew of his countless adventurers. As she discovers, it was because he was cursed and thus had to leave a message for her in the future lest he brings her ruin.

  • The Reliable One: While Bruce knows other magecraft users, such as Constatine or Jason Blood, he finds Zatanna the most trustworthy in matters involving the supernatural.

  • Supernatural Aid: To help Bruce out, Zatanna sends him a box which gifts him knowledge on the HGW her father participated in, but proceeds to enhance his Command Seals, some lucky charms, and a few pre-installed spells.

  • Too Desperate to Be Picky: Subverted. Despite wanting to help Bruce and having the Gnosis Sphere, something that can answer any question and help Bruce, she puts it away. Primarily because despite being very useful, the first and last person to use it held it until they died from constantly asking.

  • When You Coming Home, Mom?: Zatanna's mother wasn't often around, due to staying in the Wandering Sea and only visiting rarely. (Note: Likely once a year, as that's when the Wandering Sea surfaces). Giovanni's death put a strain on their relationship. Then her mother died due to stopping an Outer God and John Constantine (accidentally) killing her.

  • You Killed My Mother: While the exact relationship between her and John Constantine is unclear, it's complicated due to John having accidentally killing her mom somehow.
    Barbara Gordon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0_uu602gpgwg8vecax.jpg
Premiere Information Supplier
  • Adaptational Wimp: In canon, Oracle (Barbara) is a brilliant hacker to the point where she once counter-hacked Brainiac of all people. Here, she is defeated by Da Vinci who hacks into the Bat Computer. Justified, as Barbara only recently became Oracle and did give Da Vinci, a genius with faster reactions speed, some trouble.

All The World's Evils

Characters that appear in Side-Stories (Canon and Semi-Canon)

    Morgaine Le Fay
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/morgan___fate_grand_order_by_zerafinosz_df9wsqh_pre.jpg
The Witch Queen
Morgaine With Armor
  • Absurdly Youthful Mother: Has kept her looks to appear the same.
  • Composite Character: In the story, Morgan Le Fey takes aspects from both her Nasuverse and DC Animated Universe versions. Having a similar background to her Nasu-counterpart before diverging where she (the Le Fey aspect) survives and becomes Morgaine le Fey and resumes her own plans in modern-day.
  • Doting Parent: Centuries of raising Mordred, while challenging, made Morgaine both calmer and appreciate child-raising a bit more.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: Actually senses Altria being summoned in the 4th HGW. Thankfully, Mordred interrupts her with Morgaine thinking what she felt wasn't anything special.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Her original 'son', Mordred, died in the Battle of Camlann. She found Mordred's body and used it to make a new child, a second Mordred.
  • Power Armor: Wears a suit of armor that defends her from physical and magical attacks but is mainly used to hide her identity and ensure nobody can track her through either science or magecraft.
  • Retired Monster: Averted. In a side-story, while Morgaine Le Fey is calmer after many years of wandering and raising her new child, Mordred, she still wants to bring Artoria to her doom.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Unlike the Nasuverse Morgan who eventually died, a side-story reveals that an aspect of Morgan, the witch, survived and separated from her original body and became Morgaine Le Fey.
  • The Archmage: It's Morgaine Le Fey. Aspect or not, she's very much fits the trope in general.
  • The Unreveal: Like the Nasuverse, its unknown just what Morgaine's plans are with Gray and Mordred beyond making her sister pay.
  • Where Did We Go Wrong?: Very much didn't like how rebellious her original 'son' turned out. So, she ensures her current child, Mordred, is on better behavior.
    Mordred
  • Ambiguous Gender: It's uncertain if this Mordred is biologically female like the first Mordred or altered to be male.

  • Bratty Half-Pint: As a child, Mordred acts like this from time to time, much to their mother's annoyance.

  • Fountain of Youth: Like their mother, Mordred doesn't age. Though in their case, Mordred is stuck as a child.

  • Raise Him Right This Time: Inverted. While the first Mordred was rasher and ruder, they still sided with King Arthur until they rebelled. After making the current Mordred, Morgaine raises this one doesn't turn out like their predecessor and relies on them.

  • Stronger Than They Look: Despite being a child, Morgaine trained Mordred in the art of swordplay and even magecraft to a degree.
    Vandal Savage
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vd_1.jpg
Immortal Caveman
  • Been There, Shaped History: Due to his long age, Vandal has been part of certain historical events and beared witness to passings that are either remembered or forgotten. Having seen the White Titan killing most of the Gods and discovered Atlantis.

  • Connected All Along: In a side-story, it's revealed that Tokiomi received the snake-skin from Vandal himself. Understandable, seeing as Vandal has lived during Gilgamesh's reign and has countless artifacts from different eras.

  • Long-Lived: Has been alive since cavemen existed and has seen many things.

  • Older Is Better: Vandal's immense age has allowed his Mystery to deepen. In effect, it's equivalent to a servant with A-Rank Magic Resistance note .
    Ra's al Ghul
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9a54a0270c61b6736849aa15cc025edc0c41453cr1_751_1600v2_uhq.jpg
Demon's Head
  • Adaptational Badass: Like with Vandal, Ra's long life has given him many advantages. Not only has he learned different magecraft techniques, he is also capable of unleashing a Mana Burst through the Lazarus liquid inside him. He trained with the Hashshashin and managed to develop his own Reality Marble: Chamber of the Demon. It's noted that he is one of the few people Batman doesn't hold back against.

  • Been There, Shaped History: Was actually one of the men who helped make modern Gotham City, even if his reasonings for it were selfish in general.

  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: As vile as Ra's is, his story reveals he did love a woman once, Sora. Her death is one of the main reasons he became the way he is now at present.

  • Disappointed in You: It's stated by WoG that the First Hassan himself sees Ra as this. Mainly because the man, when he joined the Hashshashin, was considered a candite that would succeed the organization. Ra proceeded an attempt to take over the organization and have them accept his own views. When that failed, he recruited many of the men and left, creating his own organization, the League of Assassins.

  • Gaia's Lament: Ra's Reality Marble turns out to be this. A place that is little more than a deserted wasteland that supports no life and wears down on intruders. It also allows Ra to make copies of himself with other advantages.

  • Immediate Sequel: One of Ra's side-stories reveals that he killed the person who helped Morgaine get a sample of the Lazarus Pit.

  • Immortals Fear Death: Almost. Ra himself doesn't actually fear death anymore. He fears who comes with it and tries not to remember them.

  • Lack of Empathy: While Ra isn't devoid of emotions entirely, capable of honor, respect, and love, his profile makes it clear he cares very little for humans in general, including those that follow him. Emphasized the most when he cared little for the citizens of Wonder City dying by the hands of his own creations.

  • Let No Crisis Go to Waste: When he once attempted to destroy Gotham City and replace it with Wonder City, Ra discovered the Mechanical Guardians ended up coming in contact with a dark curse and the residue chemicals of the Lazarus Pit, causing the Mechanical Guardians he made to go haywire and kill people. Ra had no problem with this at all, seeing it as a way to rid the unworthy.

  • Long-Lived: Thanks to the Lazarus Pits, so long as Ra's al Ghul enters at certain periods, he is near-immortal and has survived for centuries.

  • Pyrrhic Victory: Manages to escape the First Hassan while converting members of the Hashshashin for his own organization. While it's implied he only escaped the First Hassan by using the Lazarus Pits, it's stated that all the members he picked for himself 'mysteriously died' with Ra fully aware the First Hassan is still nearby.

  • Worthy Opponent: Finds Batman, who he knows is Bruce Wayne, to be this. One of the few men Ra genuinely respects after their fated battle.
    Talia al Ghul
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/3b5ab928f9b58fb79e7c1b4f2cb409a4fc187e60_00.jpg
Daughter of the Demon
  • Ambiguous Situation: While the child she speaks to is heavily implied to be Damian, it's unknown if she had him consensually, or 'unknowingly' on Batman's part.

  • Daddy's Little Villain: Is the daughter of Ra's al Ghul and willingly supports his plans.

  • The Cameo: Makes a brief appearance at the end of one of Ra's side-stories alongside a child.

  • Villainesses Want Heroes: Talia finds herself drawn to Batman and being fascinated by him.
    Giovanni 'John' Zatara
  • Action Dad: Not only a Good Parent, but a parent who kicked ass and being a loving father and husband all at once.

  • Beyond the Impossible: With Da Vinci's knowledge, Giovanni managed to find a way to turn the divine words his family possessed into something that could be used by man. This ended up causing an impact where he made both allies and enemies all around.

  • Blue Blood: Comes from a family line that dates back to the Age of Gods.

  • Drowning My Sorrows: When Thomas Wayne and his wife died, Giovanni drank thinking it was his own fault. Seeing a younger Bruce snapped him out of it.

  • Going Native: Arriving in America, Giovanni adjusted and took up an English name, John. However, he never let go of his Italian roots and respected both cultures.

  • Hero-Worshipper: Idolized Da Vinci themselves. Using their knowledge to ensure Zatara magecraft could be translated into something understandable and used appropriately.

  • Hero of Another Story: Giovanni had his own adventures from assassinations, meeting phantasmals, allying and fighting different magus, joining a team of heroes during WW2, and even ensured the Reich couldn't get the Holy Grail in the Holy Grail War and denying the Tohsaka's a true victory. This made him quite famous in the Moonlit World, both for good and bad reasons.

  • I Choose to Stay: John was offered a position in the Wandering Sea. He refused and chose to remain in modern society alongside his daughter, to the Wandering Sea's disappointment.

  • Long-Distance Relationship: Despite rejecting the Wandering Sea's offer, Giovanni managed to attract his recruiter, Sindella, and while she couldn't be with him or Zatanna often, they loved one another all the same. Though his death did proceed to cause a rift between her and his daughter.

  • Rags to Riches: As a child, Giovanni left Italy with his grandfather with little more than the clothes on their backs. Many years later, Giovanni would be very successful.

  • Recessive Super Genes: It's revealed that Giovanni is the cultivation of his family lineage which was slowly losing their affinity for magecraft. His birth allows his lineage to continue on with Zatanna.

  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: One of the reasons why Giovanni refused to join the Wandering Sea? Because he cared more for the people than preserving the family line's Mystery. He also made an enemy of everyone in the Third Holy Grail War when discovering the Nazi's were allowed which gave him a name among the magi community. Both good and bad.

  • The Ghost: Is mentioned but has yet to appear. This is because he's already dead at present time.

  • The Gift: Giovanni was already a talented magic performer. His grandfather then proceeds to reveal he's just as good with actual magecraft and more. Having the aptitude and talent to wield his family's ancestral magecraft which Giovanni took with responsibility.

  • With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility: After learning magecraft, Giovanni came to believe he should use his powers for good. While he faced problems, along with the occasional assassin coming for him, Giovanni made good allies such as the All-Star Squadron and helped many when he could.

  • You Can't Go Home Again: When he was younger, Giovanni and his grandfather had to leave Italy due to Mussolini being active at that time with his regime. Thankfully, despite the difficulties and dangers while travelling, they made the best of it and kept their freedom as they made a home in America.
    Sindella
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: As someone who comes from the Wandering Sea, Sindella put her focus entirely on her work; unable to see her husband and daughter often, straining her relationship with the latter. However, she did love Giovanni and does try to recruit her daughter after his death. And ultimately, she sacrifices herself to ensure an Outer God didn't enter the world, keeping Zatanna safe.

  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Helps stop a literal Outer God to ensure it didn't threaten the world and by extension, her daughter, even if it costed her life.

  • Long-Distance Relationship: While Sindella married Giovanni, it's implied that she didn't visit often due to her focus on her own work. This causes a strain between her and Zatanna, made worse when Giovanni dies.
    Nezha

Marshal of the Central Altar —— (Divine Half)
(Demonic Half)

  • Adaptational Heroism: Zigzagged. While Nezha takes cues from their Fate-counterpart, they were indeed violent. Made worse when they temporarily became Demon Nezha, but found redemption compared to their DC-counterpart.

  • Composite Character: Has a mixed history of both her Fate and DC variants. While the exact details are unclear, Nezha did have a robotic body like in Fate, but ended up becoming the Demon Nezha for a time before reverting back to normal but gaining a Godly body.

  • Gender Bender: Was born a male but ended up becoming female. Not that they seem to mind.

  • Hero of Another Story: Nezha had her own stories of heroism. She was also part of the many Gods that drove away a 'Dark God' from beyond the stars.

  • I Hate Past Me: Does not like her past-self. Including her actions as Demon Nezha.

  • Literal Split Personality: While the exact reasons are unknown, while Nezha is in the Reverse Side, she silently admits that her demon-half, Demon Nezha, is on Earth somewhere.

  • Remote Body: Normally, the Gods can't interfere during the Age of Man as they're in the Reverse Side. Nezha gets around this by controlling her original robotic body she left behind on Earth.

  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Nezha's other half, Demon Nezha, was this. Emphasis on was, with Nezha returning to Earth to figure out where and what happened to her evil-half.
    Zhu Bajie/Shifu Pigsy

Pig Demon
    Marcus Shugel-Shen
  • Clones Are People, Too: Marcus' true identity is a hair clone of Sun Wukong. Not that Pigsy and Nezha mind this.

  • Divine Parentage: Is the supposed son of Sun Wukong.

  • Mysterious Protector: Is unaware that due to his divine heritage, is currently being protected by Pigsy from other humans. Nezha reveals that she herself, including Xuanzang Sanzang, also ensure some of the Chinese Gods cannot lay a finger on him.

  • The Cameo: Makes a brief appearance in a side-story.

  • Troubled Child: Like canon, Marcus has a deep fear of Batman.

Characters that are only mentioned (Cameos and Thread mentions)

    Gray
  • The Cameo: Gray is mentioned in Morgaine's side-story, but makes no actual presence.

  • The Chosen One: For the better or worse, Morgaine chooses Gray as the host for her 'brother'.
    Ares
  • Alternate Self: The Ares called upon during WW2 isn't the Ares seen in FGO. Instead, through a different ritual, the Nazi summoned an aspect of Ares warped by their views and the brutality of war.

  • The Ghost: Is mentioned in 'The Monkey' side-story and his involvement in WW2.

  • Outside-Context Problem: Normally, a Divine-Spirit is impossible to summon. The Nazi somehow managed this and called upon an aspect of Ares, freaking out the Gods of the Reverse Side.

  • Summon Bigger Fish: This is what the Nazi were aiming for. Summoning a Divine-Spirit to fight for them.
