    Mina Ashido

Mina Ashido — Venus

Quirk: Acid

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mina_ashido_hero_costume_anime_action_8.png

Behind an alien-like appearance lies an emotional and excitable girl who can produce corrosive liquid through her skin thanks to her Quirk, "Acid": she can manipulate the pH and viscosity of the fluid, but going too far can damage her skin.

  • Adaptational Name Change: Goes by 'Venus' instead of 'Pinky'.
  • Amicable Exes: Was once in a relationship with Setsuna before they broke up due to wanting the relationship to go in different directions, with Mina wanting it to be serious and Setsuna wanting it to be casual. Despite this, they're still shown to be close friends.
  • Babies Ever After: The second Flash Forward reveals that she and Eijirou end up getting married and having multiple children, as seen by Eri when she heads home after school.
  • Cheery Pink: The color of her skin and hair, and also serves as her color motif.
  • Closet Key: To Yui. Seeing her in tight shorts that really do her legs justice during the breakdancing contest back middle school helped the stoic girl realize she was also into girls.
  • Cute Monster Girl: An attractive, humanoid ... something.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Her reaction to Eijirou and Tetsutetsu's manly friendship is a deadpan reminder that they'd only become friends an hour previously.
  • The Face: Seems to serve as this to Class 1A as a whole - she's the one who usually is the most vocal about activities and adventures the class could go on together.
  • Genki Girl: Possible the liveliest girl in 1A, besides Nejire.
  • Horned Humanoid: Has a small pair of flexible horns.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Played for Laughs. Mina was the one to come up with the idea of turning main trio's hang out (where they could solve their conflicted feelings for each other) into full blown beach party between both classes, plus the Big Three. As soon as they arrive at the beach, Mina stumbles on a rail and falls flat on her face at the sand.
  • Mood Killer: Mina accidentally inviting herself and the rest of the class to spend the following day of the sports festival at Dagobah Beach puts off Itsuka's attempts to ask Izuku and Ochako out there.
  • Official Couple: She and Eijirou are confirmed in the second Flash Forward to have several kids together.
  • Shipper on Deck: Pretty much immediately begins shipping Izuku and Ochako after watching him land on her during the battle trial and finding out they were childhood friends.

    Tsuyu Asui

Tsuyu Asui — Froppy

Quirk: Frog

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tsuyu_asui_action_3.png

A young girl whose strange appearance is caused by her Quirk, "Frog", which allows her to do pretty much anything a frog can, including jump quite long distances, swim with extreme agility, and extend her tongue like a flexible steel cable.

  • Ambiguously Gay: She's never stated an attraction to boys, made out with Himiko quite enthusiastically during the beach party, and has a Pseudo-Romantic Friendship with Habuko that many people cast doubts is entirely heterosexual.
  • Animal-Themed Superbeing: She's able to do anything a frog can!
  • Brutal Honesty: She tends not to hold back from making things obvious. Fairly justified since her Quirk makes her not able to facially emote well.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Shares some snark with Yui during their experience at the USJ, sarcastically responding to Yui's flirts and more perverted humor with snark.
  • Hidden Depths: She actually has a pretty good grasp on the inner workings of Class 1A, taking advantage of the fact that she's so quiet no one notices. In private, she's actually shown to be ... er ... rather 'skilled' with her tongue, as shown during her and Himiko's make out.
  • Multipurpose Tongue: Has a very long, prehensile tongue that she can use to climb, wrap around people to hold them up, and more.
  • Refuge in Audacity: Her strategy to intercept Himiko to get her not to hit on Izuku and Ochako during the beach party ... was to apparently tell her that she's intercepting her from hitting on Izuku and Ochako at the beach party. Himiko apparently found it so hilarious she lets it slide.
  • The Straight Man: At the USJ, she serves as this to Yui and Nejire.
  • Verbal Tic: She tends to add a 'kero' at odd points while she speaks.

    Yosetsu Awase

Yosetsu Awase — Welder

Quirk: Weld

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yosetsu_awase_9.png

A loud-mouthed student who's Quirk, "Weld", allows him to merge any two objects he touches at an atomic level.

  • Accidental Pervert: Implied, since when Denki asks him where he and Momo got the metal plates to block the doorway during their battle trial, Yosetsu glanced at Momo zipping back up her suit and blushes.
  • Adapted Out: Due to being the only member of Class 1A to fail the first round of the Sports Festival (heavily implied to be due to Shinsou sabotaging him), he's removed from the Sports Festival much earlier than he is in canon.
  • Ascended Extra: In general, due to being lifted from Class 1B to 1A in this fic, but he also gains focus in the USJ Invasion arc, being teleported to the same zone as Izuku by Kurogiri, and being instrumental in helping Izuku and Pony escape the zone from the trap the Villain Consortium set up.
  • Badasses Wear Bandanas: One of his trademarked looks.
  • Composite Character: As a guy with a quirk that allows him to glue anything, he is Mineta (minus all the things that make midget the most unsufferable character in the series). He is partnered with Momo during the Battle Trial and is sent alongside Izuku and Pony to the conflagration zone at the USJ.
  • Dark Secret: He's got several bandannas similar to each other back home, and pretends that they're all different when someone asks.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: A bit literally, since they were all sealed in the conflagration zone together, but he, Pony and Izuku form a bond after escaping the Consortium's trap together, staying outside the zone when they return to the USJ for their tour, and both Izuku and Pony showing worry for him after he fell during the first round of the Sports Festival, remembering his fear of heights.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: 'Weld' doesn't seem to be useful at first - but it gives him and Momo the win during their battle trial, due to him welding the upstairs door shut so Denki and Kyouka can't get through in time, and uses it to make sure he, Izuku and Pony didn't get separated while attempting to escape the villains in the conflagration zone.
  • Phobia: Appears to be afraid of heights, which doesn't help when Izuku's plan to escape the conflagration zone includes having Pony fly them out.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Tends to let loose with the language when extremely stressed.

    Denki Kaminari

Denki Kaminari — Chargebolt

Quirk: Electrification

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/denki_kaminari_action_3_9.png

Energetic, somewhat dim-witted, and slightly perverted, he wields the Quirk "Electrification", which lets him emit high amounts of electricity near him, but he can barely wield it properly, and going over his limit backfires on him by temporarily rendering him an idiot.

  • Butt-Monkey: Tends to get the short end of the stick, especially during the USJ, in which he's chased around by multiple Trigger henchmen, thrown around the room and insulted by Katsuki, and ended up jumping out a window with Eijirou.
  • Casanova Wannabe: He is always trying to flirt with any girl he meets, but gets either ignored or rejected.
  • Death or Glory Attack: Attempts this during the Capture the Flag game in the sports festival, attempting to get launched up in the air to tackle Izuku with an incredibly powerful electrical shock. He ends up missing, and Pony ends up catching and getting shocked herself, leading to a domino affect that takes down multiple people.
  • Didn't Think This Through: When asked what support items he had to help him out with his Quirk, Denki seems to think he can just fire out his Quirk and see what happens, and doesn't seem to register the downside of this course of action.
Yosetsu: (after a Beat): Just ... try not to cook anyone, okay?
  • Dramatic Irony: He fully considered asking Izuku for advice on how to ask out Ochako - unaware that Izuku is currently dating Ochako, and wouldn't ever give him advice.
  • Foil: Tends to be this to Izuku in terms of their quirks. Both of them are Shock and Awe powers, but how they use them are extremely different; Denki can discharge it throughout his entire body, leaving him in a braindead state, while Izuku can only fire lightning from his hands and injures them in the attempts.
  • Team Killer: A non-lethal example. He accidentally knocks out his and Setsuna's team during the second event by letting out his Indiscriminate Shock attack.
  • Unknown Rival: Considers himself to be Izuku's rival due to their similar Quirks. Kyouka isn't convinced.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: He unintentionally puts a target on Izuku's back by telling Curious how the boy was the one to take on Nine during the USJ, making him a person of interest to the Meta Liberation Army.

    Mezo Shouji

Mezo Shouji — Tentacole

Quirk: Dupli-Arms

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mezo_5.png

1-A's tallest member, he is intimidating but quite friendly. His Quirk, "Dupli-Arms", gives him six arm-shaped tentacles that can replicate any part of his body into them. Always wears a mask for personal reasons.

  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: It's currently unknown how he feels for Pony in canon, but they both fight against each other during the Joint Training Arc. Here, however, they're both close friends, and implied by the author to be a future couple.
  • Animal-Themed Superbeing: An octopus. His similarity to them is why Pony is so nervous around him initially.
  • The Big Guy: He's the tallest of Class 1A's students, and his Quirk makes him a powerhouse.
  • Declaration of Protection: Promises to protect Pony from Katsuki during the battle trial, and it's implied he's disappointed in himself when he fails to do so.
  • Gentle Giant: Despite his rather intimidating look, he's a very sweet young man, feeling genuinely bad over frightening Pony with his appearance despite it not having anything personally to do with him, and he's genuinely courteous around her when they flirt at the beach, with Pony being the more aggressive one in her pursuit of him.
  • My Greatest Failure: Considers stopping Pony from heading down to help Izuku against Hood to be this, as Izuku, having no backup due to this, is beaten within an inch of his life. Pony thankfully comforts him, however, by pointing out that he had a point to stop her, even if both were blaming each other for what happened.
  • Relationship Upgrade: With Pony in Chapter 42.

    Kyouka Jirou

Kyouka Jirou — Amplifier

Quirk: Earphone Jack

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kyoka_jiro_action_3_0.png

An aloof, sarcastic, tomboyish but unexpectedly prudish student whose Quirk, "Earphone Jack", takes the form of elongated earlobes ending in jack plugs, which she can extend and plug into objects to catch extremely faint sounds or channel the sound of her own heartbeat into them in the form of powerful vibrations. She is a talented musician and is especially fond of rock music.

  • Adaptational Name Change: Goes by 'Amplifier' rather than 'Earphone Jack'.
  • Bizarre Human Biology: Her body has actual earphone jacks in her ears, which she can plug into walls.
  • Casual Kink: She was about to ask call Momo "mommy" during their super intense make out session when Skip interrupted them. Yeah...
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Overhears Awase calling Momo hot, and reacts with a wild Death Glare from across the beach. She is also very insecure about Momo and Shouto's relationship now that they are on better terms with each other.
  • Covert Pervert: When a zombified Momo starts to bite her in Chapter 41, she can be heard whispering, "harder". Kyoka also doesn't seem to mind about being tied on a leash by her crush once the effects of the Quirk wear off.
  • Crush Blush: Tends to go pink when around Momo.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Tends to have quite the attitude. Best shown while interning with Endeavor, who makes clear he didn't want to train anyone besides Shoto and Momo.
Kyoka: Yeah, well,I’m here, prick, so you better get used to it.
Endeavor: Prick?! Did you just insult me?!
Kyoka: That I did. Glad you figured it out.
  • Flipping the Bird: Gives Toya the middle finger after Shoto stands up against him.
  • Freudian Trio: The Id to Momo's Ego and Shoto's Superego during their internship at the Endeavor Agency.
  • Honorary True Companion: She is not an official Kendosquad member, but is close enough to count as such.
  • Insecure Love Interest: Towards Momo, to the point she had to write down her feelings on a letter because it was to difficult saying saying them out loud. Of course, once she realizes Momo is also interested on her, even if Momo herself is not entirely sure if she is also into girls, gives Kyoka a boost in confidence.
  • Make Some Noise: Her main offensive ability is to increase the sound of her heartbeat and transmit it through her jacks, which she used against both Chimera and Nine during the USJ invasion.
  • Nice Mean And In Between: The Mean to Momo's Nice and Shoto's In-Between, being snarky and flippant to everyone, especially Endeavor and Toya.
  • Odd Friendship: She's friends with Momo, the two girls striking up a conversation after the battle trial and walking home together. It's pretty obvious that Kyouka is beginning to crush on Momo, showing an unexpectedly shy side of her while interacting with Momo and showing comic-like shock at the reveal that Momo is engaged.
    • This expands to the other members of the Kendousquad in general - she's not described as a part of the group (Word of God calls her a 'Yaomomo groupie' more than a 'Kendou groupie') and for the most part seems to be considered too standoffish and cool for the group. And yet, she gets along fine with Izuku and Ochako, respects Itsuka as her leader and isn't afraid to poke fun at her, and shows worry for Tenya following Ingenium's hospitalization.
  • Secret-Keeper: She, alongside the rest of the Kendosquad is brought into the secret about Endeavor's abuse after the Sports Festival.
  • Tomboy: Has a boyish figure and speaks more rudely and bluntly than most of the other girls.

    Hanta Sero

Hanta Sero — Cellophane

Quirk: Tape

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hanta_sero_helmet.png

A cheery guy whose Quirk, "Tape", allows him to produce reams of an ultra-strong tape-like material from protrusions on his elbows.

  • Beware the Silly Ones: The somewhat laidback and joking Hanta actually serves as one of Izuku's biggest threats during the second round of the sports festival, with his mobility and experience swinging around giving Izuku an even bigger challenge than the rest of their joined team.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: Sheepishly admits to checking out Setsuna's ass when called out on it and apologies. Thankfully, Setsuna doesn't seem to mind and even admits to him that she checked him out in turn.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He snarks Katsuki out for thinking that he would be voted class representative despite his Jerkass behavior.
  • Love Interest: For Setsuna - in the flash forward, when Izuku offered to buy Setsuna dinner for covering him, she explaimed that Hanta would be all over that, implying they were together. The second flash forward confirms this, and the beach episode shows them making out during the party.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Apparently has a very nice tush, according to Setsuna.
  • Number Two: Effectively serves as this to the combined teams during the second round of the Sports Festival, acting as Setsuna's main partner and helping move her around while confronting Izuku.

    Pony Tsunotori

Pony Tsunotori — Rocketti

Quirk: Horn Cannon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pony_tsunotori_6.png

A girl who transferred to U.A. from America. She has horse-like legs and horns on her head. Her Quirk, "Horn Cannon", allows her to shoot her horns as projectiles, which regrow almost immediately, as well as telekinetically control up to four horns at once.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Pony used to be bullied both because of her heteromorphic appearance as well as her dreams of wanting to be a hero.
  • Ambiguously Bi: She's mentioned having looked at various butts in the class, and specifically (in English) complimented Izuku's own, but Setsuna implies that she was also looking at the girls as well, leaving it up in the air if Pony's bisexual or not.
  • But Not Too Foreign: She's half-American, half-Japanese.
  • Commonality Connection: Near instantly bonds with Melissa due to both of them being native English speakers.
  • Covert Pervert: Admits (in English) that she spent their battle trial checking out everyone's butts. And her first instinct while making out with Shouji is to straddle his lap and have her rub her horns (which, if we're going by ONR logic, is a Fantastic Arousal thing for her).
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Formed a bond with Izuku and Yosetsu after they were all trapped in the conflagration zone together during the assault on the USJ. They stayed outside the zone together when they returned to the USJ, Izuku and Pony chat together during class, and both she and Izuku were worried for Yosetsu when he fell during the first round of the sports festival.
  • Foreign-Language Tirade: Speaks English when upset, as seen when Yosetsu landed on her during the USJ invasion and started crushing her.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: She's a girl with a warm, lively personality, but her reaction to hearing about the last sports festival's sword-fighting challenge is to get pouty that they couldn't do it again this year, and expresses desires to go home and look it up later.
  • Gratuitous English: She'll occasionally insert English words into her sentences.
  • Innocently Insensitive: She didn't mean to offend Mezo with her story about getting ensnared by an octopus when she was a kid to explain her uncomfortableness, and shows a lot of shame about it afterwards. Later she would grow frightened of Tamaki growing octopus tentacles from his fingers, which sends him into a downward spiral and leaves her quickly attempting to apologize.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: She clearly feels bad for accidentally alienating Mezo with her story, and after Izuku is nearly beaten to death by Hood, she's deeply ashamed of herself for standing by up the stairs, even if there was nothing she could've done.
  • Official Couple: With Shoji, as of Chapter 42.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Probably one of the shortest characters in the class, but shown to be able to carry both Izuku and Yosetsu around for periods of time, albeit it's shown to be quite difficult.
  • Ship Tease: With Shouji, despite her apparent fear of octopuses. After the USJ invasion, they're usually seen together, and Pony actually chooses to hide behind him when Tamaki accidentally freaks her out with his quirk. By the time of the sports festival, they get along much better, with Shouji unafraid of teasing her, and they make out during the after party on Saturday. While she's embarrassed by getting caught with everyone and is nervous around him afterwards, she still asks Eijirou and Denki to let her move into the same house as them with the knowledge that Shouji will be there as well. They finally have a Relationship Upgrade in Chapter 42.
  • Token Minority: She and Melissa are the only foreign students in Class 1A.

    Setsuna Tokage
See her tropes here.

    Fumikage Tokoyami

Fumikage Tokoyami — Tsukoyami

Quirk: Dark Shadow

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fumikage_tokoyami_ones_justice_2_artwork.png

One of Class 1-A's resident Chuunibyous along with Reiko, his head makes him look like a raven. His Quirk, "Dark Shadow", manifests as a shadowy monster that inhabits his body, and which he can summon to fight on his behalf.

  • Birds of a Feather: Puns aside, he and Reiko have a shared love of the dark and edgy, with Reiko asking him a few questions about Dark Shadow.
  • Chuunibyou: Loves to make dramatic statements and uses his gothic appearance to make it more obvious.
  • Dork Knight: His above behavior and Dark Shadow's goofiness make it clear that, underneath his apparent darkness, Fumikage is a bit of a dork, something that's implied to endear himself to Reiko.
  • Graceful Loser: He and Dark Shadow handle their defeat at the sports festival with grace, to the point that Tokoyami even refuses to move on in place of Izuku and Ochako when they are removed from the festival for their safety, out of the belief that they did not earn the right to move on.
  • Not So Above It All: He's fairly serious, but even he can't help but troll Mina when she tries getting him to go to the class's beach trip.
  • Ship Tease: With Reiko. The second Flash Forward shows them relaxing under the same tree, implying that they become an Official Couple.
  • Shipper on Deck: Dark Shadow ships him with Reiko, much to his embarrassment.
  • Squishy Wizard: He's incredibly powerful with Dark Shadow - but on his own, he's just as frail and weak as anyone else. The key for Ochako defeating him in their match is to get around Dark Shadow and take him down, and once she does get her hands on him, he's out of the match in the blink of an eye.
  • Tranquil Fury: After getting a rampaging Dark Shadow under control after light briefly returns to the USJ, Fumikage tackles Chimera to the ground and is very clearly on edge, threatening in a cold voice to let Dark Shadow go nuts again in an attempt to keep Chimera on the ground.
  • Weakened by the Light: Dark Shadow's strength is sapped if it's hit by light, which ends up saving Yui, Tenya and Reiko's life at the USJ when All Might punches away Nine's storm.

    Reiko Yanagi

Reiko Yanagi — Emily

Quirk: Poltergeist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/reiko_yanagi_1.png

A creepy, verbose girl. Her Quirk, "Poltergeist", lets her exert telekinetically control over any object, as long as it is not heavier than a regular human.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Not that she is aware of, but Dark Shadow calls her "Rei-Rei".
  • Big Damn Heroes: Saves Izuku, Ochako and Itsuka from Slice while the villain was holding them hostage during All Might's battle with Nomu.
  • Chuunibyou: Seems to be a fan of making dramatic statements and being overly dramatic, something that she and Fumikage have in common.
  • Hidden Depths: Seems to have an understanding of the Devil May Cry franchise, seeing as she understood Tenko's reference to it and seemed to approve.
  • Mind over Matter: Her Quirk lets her telekinetically control objects.
  • Not So Stoic: She's normally unemotive, until Dark Shadow blatantly demands to know why Fumikage won't ask her out. She goes bright red and hides her face in a pillow.
  • Only Friend: Downplayed, but she seems to be Fumikage's only true friend in class, being the one who interacts with him the most and tends to drag him out to do things, such as reading manga with her or going to the beach.

    The New Student (SPOILERS)

Melissa Shield

Quirk: Quirkless

See her tropes here.

Former Members

    Katsuki Bakugou

Katsuki Bakugou

Quirk: Explosion

U.A. Class Status: 1-A Hero Course (formerly), 1-C General Studies Class (currently)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bakugo.png

Izuku's former Childhood Friend and long-time bully. Bakugou has it all: athleticism, great grades, and an extremely powerful Quirk called "Explosion", which lets him turn the sweat his hands expel into nitroglycerin, allowing him to create explosions at will. His genius is only matched by his ego and fiery temper, refusing to let anyone else top him as he sets out to become the Number One Hero.

  • The Ace: Deconstructed. At the start of the series, Bakugo was a skilled Quirk user who was good at just about anything he attempted, including having great grades. This, combined with him being praised by so many people for his luck and talent, meant Bakugo grew up knowing he was this — which made him into a massive jerkass who looks down on everyone else.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Zigzagged - it's implied that, apart from a few times, Katsuki didn't really bully Izuku unless Izuku did something to gain his attention, or annoy him specifically. However, the story portrays Katsuki in a more negative light in comparison to canon, pointing out that despite Izuku injuring Katsuki when they were young, that didn't give him justification to bully and threaten Izuku and Ochako. And since Katsuki does win his battle trial this time around, his rude awakening doesn't take place, and he instead doubles down on his bad behavior when called out on it.
  • Adaptational Karma: It's made pretty clear after his horrible behavior in the sports festival that Katsuki will not be getting away with his behavior unlike canon. Come Chapter 34, UA's teachers have finally decided to simply demote him down to the general studies course once their attempts to help him fall flat, making it clear that he has no way to get back into the Hero Course.
  • Adaptational Ugliness: Downplayed, but he's mentioned by Izuku to have a few scars from Izuku blasting him with lightning when they were children.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Izuku still calls him 'Kacchan', the nickname he gave him as a child.
  • Always Someone Better: He wants to consider himself as this to Itsuka after she beat him out of the entrance exam's top spot by six points, and everytime he gets a better mark than her he's quick to look her way and taunt her.
  • Arc Villain: Downplayed as he's still in the hero course, but he acts as the main antagonist of Izuku and Ochako's storyline in the sports festival, and serves as their mutual Climax Boss.
  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: This is constantly his strategy, attacking both Mezo and Pony non-stop with his explosions during their battle trial, immediately blasts Kurogiri to the ground during the USJ attack, and immediately launches an attack at a disguised All Might during their first lesson back at the USJ. This gets very much Deconstructed throughout the story, seeing as Katsuki's battle trial was supposed to be won with a partner (who he neglected so that Eijirou didn't get any points during the test), his pinning Kurogiri left him vulnerable to Nomu's attack, and his insisting that he would take out the diguised All Might only made him a danger to his classmates.
  • Attention Whore: Katsuki has lived his entire life being the center of attention and the sole recipient of praise, so coming to UA where Itsuka is far more popular and better received than him irritates him to no end. It's so much that he believes taking down Kurogiri during the USJ would not just strand the Villain Consortium, but would earn him the praise he believes was denied from him.
  • Broken Ace: Was once the top of Aldera High School and got into UA with 80 villain points, making him one of the strongest students in Class 1A. However, his serious character flaws and resentment towards Izuku, Ochako and Itsuka make it clear that he has some really deep-seated emotional problems. By the time he gets kicked out of the hero course, he's become a Karmic Butt-Monkey, gaining very little respect from his peers and outright mockery from Shinsou and Mineta.
  • The Bully: Has been bullying Izuku and Ochako for most of their lives.
  • The Commissioner Gordon: The second Flash Forward in Chapter 36 reveals that he'll essentially become the Tsukauchi to Team Clover's All Might, being their main ally on the police force.
  • Compensating for Something: Itsuka teases him by calling out his behavior as him trying to cover up the fact that he has a tiny penis. Katsuki does not take this well.
  • The Corruptible: A discussed trope. Nezu is not willing to expel Katsuki from UA all together, not because he doesn't want to, but because he firmly believes that the Hero Commission will attempt to get their hands on Katsuki and mold him into a hero of their own making, doing nothing to tame his flaws or make him a better person.
  • Deconstruction: Of several of his personality traits that canon simply ignores.
    • Blood Knight: Katsuki's obsessive fighting behaviour and recklessness where he is willing to put not only himself but his own colleagues at risk just so he can show how awesome he is.
    • The Friend Nobody Likes and I Work Alone: His overall jerkass behaviour and his absolute refusal to accept help make Katsuki a pariah on his class. All Might points out that if this kind of attitude is not curbed soon, his own colleagues will refuse to collaborate with him in the future, and even experienced Pros need to rely on someone. Class 1A's reaction to his expulsion is a universal 'he deserved it'.
  • Demoted to Extra: In canon, he's the deuteragonist of the series and one of the more important characters. Here, not only are he and Izuku on more cross terms, he's eventually literally demoted down to general studies.
  • Disabled in the Adaptation: Has scars along his chest and arms from when Izuku blasted him with a bolt of lightning. The scars ache when Katsuki witnesses Izuku fire off a blast of lightning for the first time in years.
  • Enlightened Self-Interest: Bakugo realizes the best way to make his way back to Hero course is if he started to peform a (seemingly) selfless act to show the teachers he had change of heart, so he decides to help Shinso and Mineta get into shape so they will have a chance to join Hero course alongside him.
  • Fatal Flaw:
    • Pride. Katsuki cannot and refuses to self-reflect or consider whether or not he's wrong - in his eyes, he has to be right, he has to win, and anything that might be considered as a failure must be squashed and ruined at once. He honestly cannot fathom being outdone, as shown when Itsuka takes first place during the entrance exam, and he becomes determined to outshine her in every other instance. Even when he's aware that his pride will be his undoing, he can't help but confront others who feel look down on him, like when he went to confront Melissa after discovering that she took his spot.
    • Wrath: He has a terrible temper that is prone to explode at the turn of a page. Anything that Izuku, Ochako and Itsuka do that he sees as them 'outshining' him is met with ferocious confrontation, either physically or verbally, and he doesn't hesitate to throw explosions and fists at anyone in his path. His furious rage at the Consortium slipping through his fingers has him blame the rest of the class, which all but shatters the bond that Class 1A has with him, and his ferocious attacks on Izuku and Ochako during the sports festival backfires on him when the teachers realize there's no way they can realistically keep him in the class if he refuses to change and is more than happy to cripple and injure his classmates.
  • Foil: To Nine, of all people. Both are men who are obsessed with strength, but wheras Nine is more concerned with getting those with power into the status he believes they should belong, Katsuki is obsessed with being at the very top with no competitors. While Nine has an implied Dark and Troubled Past and is frequently looked down on by others, Katsuki grew up in privilage and had Aldera in the palm of his hand, and both also have opposite views of Izuku; while Katsuki treats him as someone who ruined his perfect story and wants to crush his spirits, Nine treats Izuku as more of a Worthy Opponent he wants to grow stronger so he can later steal his quirk, ironically acting more as The Rival to Izuku than Katsuki.
  • Foregone Conclusion: It's mentioned in the flash forward that Katsuki and Izuku worked together to catch a thief, and when Izuku talks to Ochako about it, she doesn't show any sign of displeasure. This implies that they'll eventually reconcile their differences or at least be civil enough to work together.
  • Genius Bruiser: A self-trained hero student who can hold his own against villains on Trigger, and smart enough to get good marks in every subject.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Prone to exploding (literally and figuratively) in rage if someone so much as says something he doesn't like, or if he believes someone is looking down on him.
  • Hated by All: You can probably count on one hand people who like him. It's so much that even Izuku, who usually is friendly to him despite his horrible treatment of him, believes he deserved to be booted out of the hero course.
  • Heroic BSoD: Goes into one when he's defeated by Izuku with his ice quirk, eerily silent and stumbling out of the nurse's office completely ignoring everyone else. His reaction when confronting Izuku and Ochako after his expulsion is also eerily calm, with Katsuki on the verge of tears throughout it.
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: Once a proud, boastful and arrogant Hero course student, after being kicked into Gen-Ed, Bakugo becomes a Karmic Butt-Monkey after the Sports Festival, with people like Shinso and Mineta not only taking his nonsense lightly, but also quick to take on him whenever he tries to pull his stunts. Best shown on Chapter 38, where the three of them start to fight like kindengarden toddlers after Bakugo tries to intimidate Melissa.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Bakugou's massive yet fragile ego is due to his first loss to Izuku when they were kids, with Katsuki requiring constant reinforcement to make himself feel better that he got with the rest of the school bullying Izuku and Ochako. Once he comes to UA, however, his sense of superiority is frequently challenged, and his own ego and self-centerism is shattered once it's made apparent Izuku and Ochako are popular with the other students and not him.
  • It's All About Me: He's a completely self-centered person who believes himself to be the future number one hero, doesn't care about other people, and outright believes that Izuku and Ochako are beneath him and is infuriated when they earn praise or do surprising acts of heroism. It's so much that his motivation to capturing Kurogiri during the USJ invasion is to get himself the glory he thinks was robbed from him during the battle trial.
  • Jerkass: Yep.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: After years of bullying Izuku and Ochako, he finally receives karmatic justice when the teachers demote him for clearly being unstable and unwilling to better himself after deliberately injuring Izuku and Ochako during their round in the sports festival.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Frequently called Izuku a coward for not joining the hero course due to his fear of his quirk, and clearly wants a rematch to redeem his first defeat at Izuku's hands. During their match, Izuku ends up defeating Katsuki again, and to twist the knife, Katsuki's own actions end up getting him expelled from the her course.
  • Mirror Character: To Endeavor, which is something Aizawa knows and is trying to avoid, because the last thing the world needs is another proud and hot-headed jerk with fire powers who is good at everything and knows this.
  • Relationship Sabotage: How much he intended this is unknown, but Katsuki throws a wrench in Izuku, Ochako and Itsuka's developing relationship by pointing out how Izuku was basically a Third Wheel, which ends up causing a lot of angst for Izuku during the Sports Festival.
  • The Resenter: To both Izuku and Ochako - he resents Izuku for 'beating him' when they were kids, and hates Ochako for how she never was afraid of him and always was the one who stood up to him and called him out for his assholeness.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Katsuki has a pretty foul mouth.
  • Sore Loser: Upon getting the bronze medal during the sports festival, Katsuki doesn't even bother letting All Might speak, and tosses it away from him off the podium.
  • Took A Levelin Jerkass: He was never a pleasant person to begin with, but he was mostly content with doing his own thing unless Izuku and Ochako did something to provoke him. At UA, however, with Izuku and Ochako growing more popular and Itsuka upstaging him, Katsuki began to descend into becoming a raging jackass determined to beat the three of them at any cost - and has no qualms about hurting them either.
  • Trauma Button: It's implied that Izuku using his quirk puts Katsuki on his guard - each time Izuku unleashes a blast in his vicinity, Katsuki flinches. Ironically, Katsuki's relentless attacks on Izuku during their match ends up being this for Izuku, making him flash back to his beating at the hands of the Hooded Man.
  • We Used to Be Friends: With Izuku. The friendship is long gone by the time the story starts, but the Flash Forward eventually confirms that they reconcile.
