Characters / Blue Archive Hyakkiyako Alliance Academy

Go To

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/logo_4_1.png
One of the ten playable schools in Blue Archive. It is a school which is different than the others in that it is simple more of a "coalition" of clubs of committees with their own respective rules and policies. Their main industry is tourism and is applied in a variety of activities, with the largest activities dubbed as "Festivals".

Due to the alliance structure of Hyakkiyako, there is no formal student council in Hyakkiyako, though the Yin-Yang Club is sometimes seen as its de-facto student council.

These tropes and examples are the flowers of Hyakkiyako:

  • Jidaigeki: From what's seen of the district, the buildings and architecture are historical mirrors of Japan's past, moreso in terms of history; Hyakkiyako was once embroiled in a period of "warring districts"—like how the Sengoku Period was also known as the "Warring States Period" for the same reason—until the Great Prophet Kuzunoha stepped in and formed the Hyakkiyako Conflict Resolution Council to mediate between districts, which can be seen as the counterpart of The Shinsengumi.

Hyakkaryouran Conflict Resolution Council

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/firebloom.jpg
L - R: Yukari, Kikyou, Renge, Nagusa
The peacekeeping force of Hyakkiyako Alliance Academy. While often mentioned during Hyakkiyako-related events, they have yet to make any move to solve the problem that came up in said events.

It is revealed during Volume F that they are currently defunct and is scheduled to be disbanded due to the disappearance of the president and vice-president of the club, and the decline in morale among members.

They are the main focus club in Main Scenario Volume 5: Hyakkaryouran.
    Associated Tropes
  • Group-Identifying Feature: Though varying in length, all of their members wear sky-blue haori with white five-petaled flowers emblazoned across their sleeves. Unusually, they are also the first club to use the same gun, it being the Type 38 Arisaka Rifle. All of them are also Sonic-type attackers for current playable members.

    Kadenokouji Yukari

  • Ascended Fangirl: After Hyakkaryouran saves her from a couple of thugs, she becomes an instant fan and asked to join them on the spot, which they accepted.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Despite becoming a ghost story due to Shuro's manipulations and the cold way she was treated by her fellow Hyakkaryouran members, she remembers that there was someone who still believed in her, Sensei, and this helps in reverting Shuro's brainwashing.
  • Break the Cutie: Volume 5 Chapter 1 is this to her, courtesy of Hyakkaryouran disbanding, Nagusa's disappearance, Renge and Kikyou not taking her seriously and the Nature's Beauty Club manipulations, culminating with her hateful desires becoming a ghost story.
  • I Just Want to Be Free: In a talk with Sensei, she says that she's always expected to act properly due to being the heir of the Kadenokouji family, which causes her to join Hyakkaryouran as the first time in her she made a meaningful choice for herself.
  • The Heart: While not the most sensible or experienced, her sheer enthusiasm and earnestness as a member of Hyakkaryouran makes all her clubmates like her, especially as the only one doing anything to keep the club together. This hurts Renge and Kikyou all the more when they try to drive her away from the failing Hyakkaryouran for her sake. In V5C1E25 though, the seniors were able to settle their awkwardness around each other with Yukari sincerely thanking them for being there for her.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Is this to the Kadenokouji family in a shellnut. Their reputation was affected after their miko failed to attend the festival 20 years ago, so they see Yukari as a substitute tool in all but name who'll make things right. She takes it badly when she finds out.
  • Princess Classic: Deconstructed. Yukari lives a luxurious, privileged life, to the point where she feels trapped by the title—she had never known true friendship until she joined Hyakkaryouran and, later, befriends Sensei.
  • Rebellious Princess: In Volume 5 Chapter 1. Not only does she not want to be the festival miko, she also doesn't enjoy the confinements of life in a high-class family.
  • Sheltered Aristocrat: Renge and Kikyou see her as one, especially when she still has a place to return to with her family while they only have the club. This hurts her feelings, which helps contribute to her Break the Cutie moment.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: An energetic girl who's actually in the middle of something but takes the time to debut by showing Sensei around a festival just beginning... she's not a ninja like Izuna, but she's got the same spirit.

  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Part of being Hyakkaryouran’s strategist. A crowning example happens in V5C1E24, when she predicts Shuro retreating in the smoke of the fighting, then unbalancing her by shooting the ground underneath since Shuro’s protection doesn't extend to her surroundings.
  • Childhood Friends: With Renge.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Bluntly tells Yukari in Vol. 5 Chp. 1 that she has no chance against Nagusa if she wants a succession battle. When everything is said and done and Nagusa returns to Hyakkaryouran, she beats Yukari in seconds.
  • Team Mom: In V5C1, when Yukari recounts her memories of her in Episode 12, it's of Kikyou telling her she's only allowed to eat ice cream once a day, should not be eating anything before bed, and checks if she brushed her teeth.
  • The Strategist: Designated as Hyakkaryouran's tactician.

Vice-president of Hyakkaryouran Conflict Resolution Council.

  • Big Eater: Don't let her slender figure fool you, this girl eats a lot.
  • Blatant Lies: When she encounters the Ninjutsu Research Department as they search for Kuzunoha, Michiru notes that she is wearing the Hyakkaryouran outfit and asks her if she's a member. Nagusa claims it's for cosplay. She continuously tries to make up excuses after being grilled by Michiru further (such as not having a camera to take photos and being in the middle of a freezing mountain) until she collapses out of nowhere, at which point she comes clean about her position.
  • Childhood Friends: With Ayame.
  • Cowardly Lion: At the last fight with Shuro, despite breaking down from being confronted with her faults, a reinvigorated Yukari and Sensei putting their reassurance and faith in her lets her rally what self-esteem she has, using the president's rifle to defeat Shuro.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: In V5C1E25, even after the fight they went through, Yukari challenges Nagusa to a succession duel. Where the duel with Kikyou at least had an in-game fight, this ensuing duel lasted a few seconds as a cutscene in which the vice president brings down her junior.
  • Deconstructed Character Archetype: Of The Reliable One and The Quiet One. Nagusa appears as a mysterious and cool girl but acts quirky with the cosplay excuse in Volume F, something you’d expect is par for the course for a secretly powerful student of Kivotos, but then she gets her character explored in Volume 5. Though she is greatly looked up to by her juniors in her club, the truth is that it’s all just an act she made up to hide her insecurities, comparing herself to Ayame and finding herself wanting that she ran away from her responsibilities as the vice president, just to hide this part of her. That being said, this turns into a reconstruction when Sensei tells Shuro that everyone lies; lies over time can turn into truth, and just because it was an act didn’t change the fact that everyone who looked to her put trusts in her. This not only leads to Yukari regaining her belief in Hyakkaryouran, but Nagusa gaining a bit of faith to be the vice president everyone imagined and fight.
  • Handicapped Badass: Downplayed. Sensei notes she's not using her right arm, her sprite hiding it behind her haori. Still, the prologue of V5C1 kicks off with her easily taking down some Street Mouryo causing trouble for some citizens, though she has some trouble holding off a larger, vengeful group prepared for her until Sensei grabs her while the thugs were distracted and flee.
  • My Greatest Failure: Not being able to save Ayame from the Nature's Beauty Club.
  • Metaphorically True: When she said back in Volume F that she's just a cosplayer, she's not wrong in a certain, self-perceived sense. Throughout Volume 5, she states her reason why she can't replace Ayame as president is because only Ayame is qualified to be one, but Shuro spells it out for everyone to hear it's only an excuse. Rather, Nagusa doesn't want to disappoint anyone finding out that she's (as she sees it) nothing special and is only piggybacking off Ayame's achievements to 'cosplay' as the admired vice president.
  • Sucksessor: Thinks she's not up to the task of being Hyakkaryouran's president, which is why she attempts to disband it after Ayame's death.

President of Hyakkaryouran Conflict Resolution Council.

  • Childhood Friends: With Nagusa.
  • Dying Declaration of Hate: Gave one to Nagusa as she was assimilated by "Twilight". Given that this came from Shuro though, the truth of the matter remains in question.
  • Foil: To Yume. Both were presidents of their respective factions. But while Yume's death changed Hoshino from an aggressive loner to a carefree girl willing to clear Abydos's debt, Ayame's death changed Nagusa into a defeatist who runs away from her problems and thinks there's no use in keeping Hyakkaryouran going.
  • Posthumous Character: Died when she was ambushed by the Nature's Beauty Club and made into a ghost story.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: No one knows what has happened for the president to suddenly disappear and leave her club leaderless, which becomes a plot point in V5C1. It is revealed in the same chapter that she was assimilated by "Twilight".

The mischievous president of the Yin-Yang Club. Though she isn't a bad person at heart, her scheming personality tends not to take people's hearts into account.

  • Dull Surprise: During the event An Unconcealed Heart, she does not show much reaction when informed by Kaho that Ibuki has been kidnapped. Justified, as she orchestrated it.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Not once has there been a situation where she opens her eyes, not even during the chaos of Volume F... until a moment in Volume 5, Chapter 1, where Yukari's declaration to restore Hyakkaryouran by participating in a succession battle throws everyone for a loop—Niya finally opens a bit of her eyes in confusion.
  • Oni: She sports a pair of red oni horns, but one of them is broken.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When the Nature's Beauty Club wreck the festival and catch the Yin-Yang Club off guard, Niya suddenly stops smiling and murmurs to herself analyzing where she went wrong for this to have happened. It takes Chise prodding her into action that the president's usual carefreeness returns.
  • The Man Behind the Man: In An Unconcealed Heart, Niya supported the Mouryo gang to test Sensei's ability. Naturally, this earns her a private correction/punishment session with Sensei at the very end.

An airheaded girl who has a massive following—which she isn't aware of—amongst Hyakkiyako's community as someone who spouts enlightening haikus. Said haikus are often silly things that she comes up with on the spot, but she does have her moments of focus.

  • The Bard: She composes haikus to be exact.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Is often spacing out, and seems to have the attention span of a goldfish. Of course, this does not seem to bother the Hyakkiyako folks at all, as her random observations are treated as some sort of enlightened speech, all the while Chise probably doesn't even realize anyone can hear her.
  • The Ditz: Usually forgets things immediately, let alone pay attention to her surroundings unless they catch her interest. In her swimsuit's Recollection Lobby for one, she's too busy poking at a turtle to realize her swimsuit's dangerously loosened until Sensei shouts about it.
  • Famed In-Story: She has a large following amongst Hyakkiyako's populace, Kaho practically being her biggest fan.
  • King of Games: Awesome at card games like Karuta. It also somehow lets her steamroll through a game of Mushiqueen in Momoyo Cafe's Beachside Stand.
  • Marked Bullet: Unlike her bog-standard Grenade Launcher, the actual grenades her personal weapon uses all have haiku personally written by Chise.
  • Oni: She sports a pair of red oni horns.
  • Playing with Fire: Her EX Skill has her fire an incendiary grenade that explodes and covers a circular area in fire.
  • Vanilla Edition: Her personal weapon is just a regular grenade launcher available at the Ying-Yang Club's store.

Vice president of the Yin-Yang Club, and virtually the only one of her club's main trio that has any common sense in getting things done. That said, she's a massive fan of all things Chise.

  • Beleaguered Assistant: Being the second to a president shameless about her secret plans brings its own headaches. She gets particularly upset at Niya blatantly taking advantage of Sensei's care for students to solve some problems in V5C1, even if Sensei doesn't mind it much.
  • Kimono Fanservice: Her traditional outfit generously shows off the sides of her sizable chest. It's also backless with detached sleeves, which increases the exposure even further when Kaho is seen from behind.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Has fox ears. Oddly enough, she doesn't have a tail, unlike fellow Hyakkiyako foxes Izuna and Wakamo.
  • Only Sane Man: Barely. While she is obviously the better adjusted of the Yin-Yang Club when compared to Niya's antics and whatever Chise is up to at any point, Kaho's adoration of Chise knows no bounds, and just being around the dopey oni is enough to completely distract her.

  • Cloudcuckoolander: Very little goes through her head outside of sleep, much so that she asserts that sleeping is a form of training for her with many different styles and techniques.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Despite being able to fall asleep at the drop of a hat, she is far from defenseless. When she was attacked by delinquents in her relationship story, she managed to flawlessly dodge all of their fire, while in deep sleep.
  • Draw Aggro: Her EX Skill allows her to taunt and draw enemy fire in a circle, all while heavily boosting her defense.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Carries a futuristic riot shield, fitting her role as a tank.
  • Red Baron: She's popularly known as the "Sleeping Beauty of Hyakkiyako."
  • Sleepyhead: Rarely does a story featuring her happens without her dozing off. The first episode of her Relationship Story alone shows she's renowned for it, never waking up to most things (unless it's Sensei), and of course, her Recollection Lobby is of her lying down on a grassy lawn with Sensei.
  • Stone Wall: Has very high defenses by default, and her EX, Enhanced, and Sub skills all increase it substantially.

    Mizuha Mimori

Affiliation: Inner Discipline Club
Age: 16
Birthday: March 3rd
Height: 5'3" (161cm)
Hobbies: Reading shoujo manga, general housework
Illustrator: tokki
Voiced by: Rie Tanaka

  • Conveniently Coherent Thoughts: Mimori is capable of telling what the person before her is thinking, but rather than Telepathy, she's just really good at reading body tells and facial expressions.
    • In An Unconcealed Heart, she manages to read aloud what everyone has on their mind, even Michiru's deeply concealed anxieties. But when its Sensei's turn, she reads them... then blushes, scolding, "How could you, Sensei? Such impropriety... ...Shame on you!" to Sensei's confusion.
    • In her Valentine's story where she teaches a chocolate-making class, she can tell what a student wants to make before they say it. Then after class, she confesses to Sensei that the "most important person" to her has a mind she can't read, saying so as she shyly looks at Sensei and gives them her chocolates.
  • Foil: She can be compared to Fuuka, whose Housewife qualities lie in being a Supreme Chef; Mimori's cooking isn't as notable, but she's great with other associated skills like cleaning and sewing.
  • Housewife: Her Relationship Stories are all about her practicing this as part of her training to become a lady; in the first episode, she acts like a stereotypical wife sending her husband off where she wakes up Sensei, makes sandwiches for breakfast, organizes their paperwork, and sends them off with an oxytocin-releasing hug.
  • Logical Weakness: Played for Laughs in Episode 6 of An Unconcealed Heart. She's the obstacle for the Ninjutsu Research Club, declaring herself as "The Mind Reader" and demonstrates it by reading everyone's thoughts. When the girls zone out to counter her "powers", they get into a deadlock with Mimori trying to read them... then she tells them that they can just fight her in battle to pass.
  • Only Sane Woman: With her two other club members being a Cloudcuckoolander Sleepyhead and a CCG-obsessed Bratty Half-Pint, she doesn't make this position anywhere near as hard even with her shoujo manga obsession.
  • Supreme Chef: So far she cooks for her club in their side story, makes breakfast for Sensei in her first Relationship story, and leads a chocolate-making class in her Valentine's story.
  • Thinks Like a Romance Novel: Like a shoujo manga to be exact. She was inspired to be a proper lady from reading one since her childhood, so she's usually bringing up shoujo tropes to incorporate into her ladylike ways.
  • Yamato Nadeshiko: In a domestic way inspired by her shoujo manga, this is Mimori's aspiration.

  • Amusing Injuries: The result of her Unorthodox Reload listed below? One successfully reloaded pistol, and Cranial Eruption + Instant Bandages.
  • Beetle Maniac: Both from her favorite card game and the real deal.
  • Blank White Eyes: Seems to get these whenever she feels strongly about something, such as excitement when drawing a good card playing her favorite CCG, despair after getting a bad reward at the Capybara Gacha, or pain when bonking herself on the head while reloading her pistol.
  • Collectible Card Game: She plays Mushiqueen, an Bland-Name Product of the real-life Mushiking CCG.
  • Flare Gun: Uses a Type-90 Nambu flare pistol named “Funny Foreworks”.
  • Nice Girl: Even when she’s on a mission to get a limited-edition product of her favorite CCG before it’s sold out, Kaede still stops to help people along the way.
  • The Prankster: Downplayed. One of her hobbies is “mischief”, but since she tries hard to stay under control it rarely shows.
  • Proper Lady: What she seeks to become.
  • Token Mini-Moe: The self-proclaimed mascot of the Inner Discipline Club, and the tiniest of the group by a fair amount.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She's as tomboyish as can be, but she idolizes Mimori and wants to become a respectable lady like her. Only time will tell if she manages to get anywhere.
  • Unorthodox Reload: She reloads her flare pistol by tossing the shells into the air and holding it out so they’ll fall right in. They end up bonking her on the head first, then they fall in.

  • Beneath the Mask: The cutesy Clumsy Girl character she puts up is really a front to pull in customers. When she does drop it at some point out of mental exhaustion, she works very competently like any ordinary waitress should.
  • Dramatic Irony: Shizuko mentions this line during the An Unconcealed Heart event, unaware that she hit the nail in the head:
Shizuko: You know, they had suspiciously realistic costumes. Imagine if they were actually the Mouryo? Good thing there's no way they would crash the exchange meeting.
  • Freudian Slip: While trying to seem calm and reasonable, Shizuko accidentally let slip to Sensei that she wants the gangs responsible for attacking the Sakura Festival to suffer much to her horror.
  • School Idol: Calls herself the mascot of Momoyodou, the local teahouse near her school.
  • Ship Tease: After getting changed into her swimsuit in Momoyo Cafe's Beachside Stand and giving an explanation to Sensei about not wanting to ruin her proper clothes during any beachside conflicts that might occur, Shizuko blushes and stammers while asking Sensei what they think of her outfit, displaying none of her usual confidence.
  • Unwitting Pawn: In the Momoyo Cafe's Beachside Stand event, she and the Festival Committee turn out to the be this for Octopus Bank, actually a subsidiary of Kaiser Loans, for their Lost Paradise resort scheme, having manipulated the Festival Committee into taking on 'official' ownership of the entire resort in the contract they signed and effectively making them The Scapegoat to anyone else who has a similar contract and contest them over the usage rights.
  • Workaholic: She takes her position as president of the Festival Organizations Department and her work at Momoyodou seriously to the point that, during her bond stories, Sensei has to talk her into taking a break once exhaustion takes its toll on her.

  • More Dakka: Michiru wields a Remington 870 shotgun with a Masterkey underbarrel shotgun attached to it.
  • Shout-Out: In her first Relationship Episode, she offers one way for aspiring ninja Sensei (which they are not but gets ignored) to become a true ninja by starting as a pizza-eating turtle.
Michiru: Instead of ninja fanatic, you could start off as a turtle. [...] Come on! Turtles have great potential for becoming ninjas! And they love pizza! But starting off in a sewer means the road ahead will be tough. Still, it's very possible, especially if you're in an area with Millennium's latest sewage equipment...

  • Asian Fox Spirit: Seems to be one. She has a pair of fox ears on her head and a fluffy fox tail.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Her personality can be accurately described as scatterbrained and her methods of studying ninjutsu (consuming ninja-themed media) are eccentric to say the least, but you can't question the results.
  • Character Catchphrase: "Nin nin!"
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Izuna has some very unorthodox ideas of how to be a ninja.
  • The Cutie: Izuna is adorable. This is actually a legitimate problem, as people often don't have the heart to let her down even when they really should. Even Sensei can't bring themselves to chastise her for skipping class to play bodyguard.
  • The Ditz: Izuna is a sweet girl, but not the sharpest shuriken in the armory.
  • Furry Reminder: When her swimsuit form gets food from a cooler, she dives in like a fox hunting prey under the snow and comes out holding it in her mouth with her hands in a Faux Paw pose.
  • Genki Girl: She's extremely energetic and devotes herself to her role as Sensei's personal ninja with great zeal.
  • Highly-Visible Ninja: She's... not good at staying concealed, especially when acting as Sensei's personal bodyguard. Her bright floral outfit doesn't help matters.
  • Ninja: What she aspires to be, collecting any and all ninja-themed merchandise and mimicking ninja anime and manga so well that she’s actually more competent than even her own clubmates in the Ninjutsu Research Club.
  • No, I Am Behind You: Her skill "Izuna Ninja Scrolls!" allows Izuna to Flash Step to anywhere in the battlefield while giving her a temporary attack speed bonus.note
  • Undying Loyalty: Izuna is fiercely loyal to Sensei, much so that she addresses them as "milord" in the way that a ninja would.
  • Unwitting Pawn: During the Sakura Festival event, Izuna is tricked by the Big Bad of the event to attack the Festival committee since she believes the committee are the "bad guys" and it's part of her dream of becoming a real, loyal ninja. After befriending Sensei and later learning the Big Bad was tricking her all along and mocking her on how gullible she was, Izuna does a Heel–Face Turn and join forces with Sensei and the other students since Sensei believes in and supports her dream.

  • Huge Schoolgirl: At 180cm, Tsukuyo is the tallest girl in the cast, edging over Hasumi by one centimeter.
  • Mobile Shrubbery: Her hobby is disguising herself as a tree.
  • Shrinking Violet: Tsukuyo is very reclusive and somewhat self-deprecating due to her being ridiculed in her childhood for her unusually tall height. Thankfully, her self-esteem isn't as severally low as Haruka, Miyu, or even Hiyori's, such as when she's given a task, she'll get through some very minor Self-Deprecation over her height and then become the determinator to fulfill such task.

  • Break Them by Talking: She primarily taunts and breaks down people through forcing them to acknowledge their failings, all while putting a malicious spin on it. This is especially effective on Nagusa, a secretly self-deprecatory mess and an easy target for Shuro's gaslighting, and Yukari, who feels trapped by people's expectations of her that causes a ghost story to be born from her once it's all brought out.
  • Diabolical Mastermind: The events of V5C1, from sending the message to the Yin-Yang Club to predicting Sensei getting involved Hyakkaryouran to Yukari getting rebuffed by her clubmates that will create a ghost story, was all overseen by her.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Shuro believes that deep down, everyone is as much of a sociopath as her and that even when people hurt others, they only feign guilt. When met with morally upstanding people like Sensei and the Hyakkaryouran girls, who stick by their values and live by their code, she is led to try to corrupt them in an attempt to prove this viewpoint and create a ghost story strong enough to burn Hyakkiyako to the ground. When these attempts fail, she breaks down annoyed and tries to kill them.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: A young-looking girl who doesn't look older than Ibuki but finds delight with tragedies and the suffering of others.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Kokuriko.
  • Villain Has a Point: A lot of what she points out land uncomfortably home with the Hyakkaryouran.
    • However much she didn't intend for these issues to happen, Nagusa putting up a façade, using Ayame as an excuse to prop it up, and running away from her responsibilities as vice president left her club leaderless and a shell of itself today.
    • Yukari's problems can be traced to everyone putting their wants for her above what she wants. No matter their reasons, her own family using her as a tool for their reputation and her clubmates pushing her away without listening to what she feels only served to build up resentment within herself.

  • Little Bit Beastly: She has a pair of fox ears and a tail to complete the vulpine look.
  • Shrouded in Myth: A mysterious girl from Hyakkiyako's past who created the Alliance that the academy was built upon and founded the Hyakkaryouran Conflict Resolution Council. Yet not much is known about her besides a singular poem.
