Elixir Troops

     Barbarian
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4234ccd09a83cc4a35476c2bbffb3b6a.png
"This fearless warrior relies on his bulging muscles and striking mustache to wreak havoc in enemy villages. Release a horde of Barbarians and enjoy the mayhem!"
  • Cannon Fodder: Especially in early levels, expect to use up quite a few Barbarians. During mass Barbarian-and-Archer Zerg Rushes, Barbarians are there to get through walls and to soak up abuse for the Archers.
  • Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: The smash to the Archer's shoot.
  • Horny Vikings: Level 5 Barbarians and above will wear horned helmets.
  • Iron Butt Monkey: While large numbers of Barbarians are regularly subjected to Amusing Injuries in game advertisements, they get up from it most of the time.
  • Man in a Kilt: Barbarians wear a kilt.
  • Mascot Mook: They serve as startup icons.
  • Zerg Rush: Due to their housing space of 1, early availability and fast training time, they can be spammed en masse to deal great damage and can overwhelm single target defenses.

     Archer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/da0dc237e8a60b09cf805845d6af8449.png
"These sharpshooters like to keep their distance on the battlefield and in life. Nothing makes them happier than single-mindedly taking down their target."
  • Cold Sniper: Right there in their description. The commercial depicts them as stoic and deadpan all the time. A 360-degree video on YouTube pushes them into Deadpan Snarker territory.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Tends to be shown like this in the commercials often in response to her comrades' eccentricities.
  • Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: The Shoot to the Barbarian's Smash.
  • Kubrick Stare
  • Prefers Going Barefoot: For whatever reason, the Archers go into battle barefooted no matter the terrain.
  • Women Are Wiser: Commercials depict her to be the more sensible and serious compared to her male comrades who range from the brutish Barbarian, the greed-focused Goblins, unaware Giants, narcissistic Wizard and the very eccentric Hog Rider among others.
  • Zerg Rush: A high number of Archers can overwhelm almost anything, except when they need to get through walls.

     Goblin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c102d700262085ea84b7ec3df9c3c117.png
"These pesky little creatures only have eyes for one thing: LOOT! They are faster than a Spring Trap, and their hunger for resources is limitless."
  • Bandit Mook: Goblins attacking your base will go straight for resources first.
  • Fragile Speedster: Incredibly fast and can clear through resources very quickly but goes down quite easily.
  • Money Fetish: As stated in their description, they love loot. They aim for it when they are available and prioritize resource buildings over all.
  • No-Sell: Downplayed. They can run away from a Spring Trap if they activate it, but they can still be taken out by it.
  • The Goomba: They serve as the tutorial enemies and become recruitable not long after.

    Giant
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/30e8bb00860efad6d6c2cc72e714d6d8.png
"These big guys may seem calm, but show them a turret or cannon and you'll see their fury unleashed! Slow yet durable, these warriors are best used to soak up hits."
  • Achilles' Heel: Spring Traps. Due to their AI's tendency to clump together, a single trap can take out three Giants at once.
  • Adaptational Badass: In the first commercials the Giants were portrayed as straight-up invincible and laughed off all damage, while in the games they will soak up damage like crazy they will still go down if hit with sufficient attacks. Later commercials averted this by having their durability significantly lowered to match the game better.
  • Giant Mook: Three times the size of a Barbarian and with the durability to match it.
  • Ship Tease: Receives some with the P.E.K.K.A. in the "Clash on Ice" commercial where the two dance together while skate-battling the other team, too bad their number is cut short by him getting pinned down by a volley of arrows.
  • Stone Wall: Their damage is unimpressive for their cost and housing required, but they are great for soaking damage for your other, less durable troops. Commercials depict them laughing at attacks that hit them.
  • Zerg Rush: A common raiding tactic is to send a ton of Giants, backed by Healers. Since Healers heal in an area, this greatly increases their durability.

    Wall Breaker
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/977d3ad1700195dc646cad57c5c40587.png
"Nothing warms a Wall Breaker's cold and undead heart like blowing up walls. A squad of them will make way for your ground units, and they will do it with a BANG!"
  • Action Bomb: Their only purpose is to blow walls up with their bombs.
  • Artificial Brilliance: Unlike its original counterpart Eye-Ra in Backyard Monsters, Wall Breakers will not be fooled by decoys and wall spikes, they will seek the wall that is protecting the building, ignoring any decoys on its way.
  • Cartoon Bomb: They carry around a large old-fashioned bomb, complete with the rope fuse.
  • Dem Bones: They're skeletons. Most likely to make the idea of suicide-bomber units palatable.
  • Goggles Do Nothing: They wear aviator caps and goggles despite lacking eyes. One wonders why they have them, considering their purpose.
  • Suicide Attack: When they use their bombs, they go with them.

     Balloon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/074364202df0a591a49e1a99d035c81f.png
These promoted skeletons have traded in their joy of destroying walls for a joy of destroying defenses. Deploy them to take out pesky mortars and cannons!"
  • Action Bomb: Upon its death, it deals some damage to the buildings around it.
  • Death from Above: The first flying unit you get to deploy.
  • Dem Bones: Same as the Wall Breakers.
  • Glass Cannon: Possess among one of the most tremendous damage per attack per housing but not only is it slow, its low hitpoints means that without any support, they are going to be shredded by any towers that are capable of attacking it but especially Air Bombs and Air Defenses.
  • Herd-Hitting Attack: His bombs deals splash damage against buildings and attacking troops.
  • Kryptonite Is Everywhere: Balloons get shredded quickly by anti-air units... of which there are many sources of.
  • Magikarp Power: At low levels, Balloons have low hit points, subpar damage and can get easily taken down by any other towers that attack them before your bombs could even reached them. But it gets enough upgrades, Balloons become one of the best units in the game thanks to its tremendously high damage output that can one-shot any towers that can come close, shrugging off attacks not named Air Defenses in the process. There is a good reason you will often want to use them at level 9 Town Hall and above.

     Wizard
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/57b9166896a7d2a2135a3e3993606a76.png
"The Wizard is a terrifying presence on the battlefield. Pair him up with some of his fellows and cast concentrated blasts of destruction on anything, land or sky!"
  • Adaptational Ugliness: Wizards are depicted as decidedly uglier in the Clash-A-Rama series, being portrayed as shorter, with an unibrow and stubby arms and legs in contrast to the more conventionally attractive design of Wizards in the game.
  • Glass Cannon: Has THE highest damage-per-housing ratio among the units but has rather subpar hitpoints for its cost.
  • Herd-Hitting Attack: His magic attacks deals splash damage to troops that he is fighting against.
  • In the Hood: His iconic outfit always has a hood on it.
  • Kill It with Fire: No fancy tricks, just plain old fireballs. They work perfectly fine.
  • Large Ham: Is very self-absorbed and is keen to show off his magic. One commercial depicts him narrating himself, and another has him throwing a rabbit that transforms into a fireball that one-shots a Town Hall.
  • Purple Is Powerful: He gains a purple cloak at later levels.
  • Shock and Awe: Once they are upgraded past level 4, they begin to shoot lightning from their hands. The wizards that stand on top of the Wizard Tower defensive structure also use lightning in their attacks.
  • Squishy Wizard: Zig-zagged. They are definitely tougher than 1-housing troops and can take a few shots before dying, but in the end, their health-to-housing ratio is low.

     Healer
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c60a36b431dd5735442eaeda6a876900.png
"This majestic creature lives to protect and aid her fellow troops. Any army is improved with her healing support, but make sure to protect her from air defenses!"
  • Achilles' Heel: Anything anti-air is a great danger to them. Before the December 2017 update, Inferno Towers completely negated their healing ability. Even now, Infernos can easily deal more damage than Healers can possibly restore, especially in single-target mode.
  • Magical Barefooter: As they fly most of the time, shoes aren't needed.
  • The Medic: Capable of healing up swaths of units over time, making them valuable.
  • No Self-Buffs: It's worth noting that the Healer can't heal any type of flying unit. (Healing spells will work on all units, whether ground or air.)
  • No-Sell: From aversion to playing straight to aversion again.
    • Originally, they could trigger all air traps (Air Bombs, Seeking Air Mines, or Skeleton Traps set to air mode).
    • Then, following the February 2015 update, they no longer triggered air traps.
    • Then the August 2016 update once again made them vulnerable to all air traps.
  • Our Angels Are Different
  • Shoot the Medic First: A major consideration of base defense is placement of anti-air to deal with Healers.

    Dragon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/7ce7a2e83a4a294134fc7fbccef09109.png
"The might of the dragons are known throughout the land. This scaly terror of the skies feels no mercy and nothing will escape the fiery splashes of his breath."
  • Death from Above: The most powerful flying unit you could get... until the Electro Dragon came along in June 2018.
  • Elite Army: A popular tactic for mid-level players is to use an attack composed entirely of Dragons dubbed as the Mass Dragon tactic. All you have to do is to use at least 3 Lightning Spellsnote , or two Lightnings and an Earthquake Spellnote , to take out an Air Defense tower, then deploy as many Dragons as possible with some Clan Castle troops and a Barbarian King as support. Whether you will successfully wipe your opponent's base depends entirely on how you managed the attack.
  • Elite Mook: Incredibly expensive but powerful unit that occupies 20 housing spaces. It originally took 30 minutes to produce, but was reduced to 15 in early May 2016 and then to as short as 3note  in October 2016. Whenever they are deployed, it's either wiping out a War base or hunting for Trophies.
  • Herd-Hitting Attack: When he confronts a troop, his fire breath will deal splash damage that will decimate any troops that are recklessly deployed.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Flying, deals powerful splash damage, and among the toughest units in the game.

     P.E.K.K.A
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ea7f8a55eb0e6e560b00f4aa01be6b89.png
"Is P.E.K.K.A a knight? A samurai? A robot? No one knows! P.E.K.K.A's armor absorbs even the mightiest of blows."
  • Achilles' Heel: Before the October 2016 update, P.E.K.K.As took double damage from Hidden Teslas, which deal electrical damage. The description included the phrase "but it doesn't handle electricity too well" until it was finally removed for the Christmas 2016 update.
  • Boss in Mook Clothing: One of the most powerful units that you can ever deploy thanks to its titanic hit points and also having one of the highest damage output... but she is so expensive that you will probably deploy 3 at maximum to one-shot any building it comes across.
  • Cuteness Proximity: She has a fondness for cute animals such as butterflies and rabbits as demonstrated in the CG trailers.
  • Fun with Acronyms: Her name is actually a reference to a Finnish name, but the acronym itself doesn't have any particular meaning. A poll eventually went with "Perfectly Enraged Knight, Killer of Assassins".
  • Mighty Glacier: While P.E.K.K.As have a slow movement speed and attacks slowly as well, they are incredibly tanky while also having the highest DPS of any troop in the game. They can easily shred a building with just a few hits.
  • No-Sell: She's too heavy for Spring Traps.
  • Purple Is Powerful: She initially uses a purple sword.
  • Ship Tease: Receives some with the Giant in the "Clash on Ice" commercial where the two dance together while skate-battling the other team, too bad their number is cut short by the Giant getting pinned down by a volley of arrows.
  • The Juggernaut: She can usually take out a building in 1-2 hits.

     Baby Dragon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/baby_dragon_info.png
"This firebreathing hatchling is shy around other air units, but leave it alone and it'll throw a fit! When not around other air units, Baby Dragons become enraged and gain bonus damage and attack speed."
  • Canon Immigrant: Originally a character in the Spin-Off game Clash Royale; introduced to Clash of Clans in the late May 2016 update.
  • Conservation of Ninjutsu: A group of Baby Dragons is an inferior Mass Dragon raid with a terrible damage per housing. But a single Baby Dragon has the power of their adult counterparts with only half the housing space required.

     Miner
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/miner_info.png
"These sneaky shovelers burrow underground, pass beneath walls and pop up next to their targets. While underground, Miners cannot be damaged and cannot trigger traps, but still gain bonuses from Spells."
  • Canon Immigrant: Originally a character in the Spin-Off game Clash Royale; introduced to Clash of Clans in the late May 2016 update.
  • Dungeon Bypass: When digging, they go right through walls.
  • Lightning Bruiser: They're fast, can bury underground to avoid damages especially from Inferno Towers, are quite resilient (more than Hogs) and also do decent damage. Partially averted with the August 2016 upgrade; they were made slower while burrowing, though the other attributes weren't changed at all.
  • No-Sell: When digging, they no-sell everything, even traps.
  • Shovel Strike: They use shovels as their primary weapons.
  • Tunnel King
  • Zerg Rush: Upon his release, doing this with him became one of the most popular troop setups in the game. And it's showing no signs of stopping, though it was lessened somewhat with the December 2017 update, which increased the housing requirement for Miners from 5 spaces to 6.

     Electro Dragon
"Possessing iron-tough scales and a breath of devastating lightning, the Electro Dragon's favorite thing is raining destruction from above. When vanquished, the Electro Dragon even pummels the ground with lightning strikes!"
  • Death from Above: Replaced his fire-breathing counterpart as the most powerful flying unit in the game when he was introduced in June 2018.
  • Defeat Equals Explosion: Deals a modest amount of damage to buildings (or troops) upon its death.
  • Elite Army: Not available until Town Hall level 11 of 13.
  • Elite Mook: Incredibly expensive but powerful unit note  and occupies 30 housing spaces. Also takes anywhere from 6 to 24 minutes to build, depending on the number of Barracks the player has upgraded to train it. Whenever they are deployed, it's either wiping out a War base or hunting for Trophies.
  • Herd-Hitting Attack: When he gets to a building or troop, his lightning breath will deal chain damage—jumping from the original target to another, and repeating up to a total of five targets. However, the "chain" effect only applies if the next building (or troop) is less than two tiles from the previous target.
  • Mighty Glacier: Flying, deals very high damage accross all buildings, and among the toughest units in the game. However, they move and attack very slowly, requiring five seconds before it can fully charge their lightning.
  • Shock and Awe: Instead of fire, they breath lightning. The bolts will jump from the original target in a chain, hitting up to a total of five (with the caveat noted above).

    Yeti
"This heavy-hitting furry fellow digs cold weather and his Yetimite buddies. Hurt him, and you'll make the Yetimites real angry."
  • Action Bomb: Not the Yeti himself, but his Yetimites, similar to the spirits from Clash Royale, leap at buildings and burst into damage.
  • Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: The latter of the bunch.
  • Mighty Glacier: He's not as tanky as something like a Giant or Golem, but he can deal more damage than either of them can.
  • Mook Maker: His little purple Yetimites jump out of his backpack when he takes damage.

    Dragon Rider
"This aerial engine of destruction readily and frankly, quite excitedly lays waste to any defense it comes across. The skeleton onboard swears he's not touching the controls."

    Electro Titan
"Barely controlling her raw magical power, the Electro Titan is a formidable force on the battlefield. She channels some of her magic into a powerful electro whip while the rest spills out to damage everything around her."
  • Area of Effect: She has a permanent one surrounding her, which constantly damages any enemy near her.
  • Boss in Mook Clothing: She takes up the most housing space out of any troop in the game (32), so you're not likely to bring many in your army, but she makes up for it with her sheer power.
  • Mystical White Hair: Her hair is white, and she's full of intense electric power.
  • Shock and Awe: She's overflowing with electric energy, most of it shocking things near her, but some of it channeled into a whip attack.

Dark Elixir Troops

     Minion
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/3c5b147ef0ab92488179d4d0a6aa499b.png
"This terror of the skies was born out of Dark Elixir. Undetectable by the Seeking Air Mine, Minions materialize with ease, but are fragile in our world."
  • Glass Cannon: Deals high damage relative to their cost and housing, but very fragile. Beware of Air Bombs and their splash damage.
  • Power Up Letdown: Minions are immune to the Seeking Air Mines because apparently, they are too small to be detected for it. However, considering that Seeking Air Mines deal a huge amount of damage to a single target, it wouldn't really put a dent on the Minion armies. It is most likely given such "immunity" in order to prevent players from just using it to bait out the Air Mines for either their Dragons or Lava Hounds.
  • Zerg Rush: Enough Minions can overwhelm even the most thick anti-air defenses.

     Hog Rider
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1f19e10f3a19cd8462ded62c711faba8.png
"Having tamed the fierce leaping hog, the Hog Rider punishes those who hide behind their puny walls! Fueled by Dark Elixir, these warriors have never known defeat!"
  • Breakout Character: The Hog Rider was initially just one of the many Dark Elixir troops and generally not more focused on than other units in promotional works. However, he had a massive surge in popularity due to his promotional short and memetic lines that led to his focus being increased in newer Clash side material, up to and receiving starring roles in animated shorts more frequently.
  • Dungeon Bypass: Their rides allow them to bypass walls. Combined with their targeting priority on base defenses, they are exceedingly dangerous if left unchecked.
  • Full-Boar Action: Played straight.
  • Large Ham (heh...): The commercials depict him as this.
    • Did someone say HOG RIDA?!
    • Another commercial depicts him calling for other Hog Riders by yodeling.
    • Yet another depicts him and his hog riding a piano into battle and singing a song announcing the Clan Wars feature, and living.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Perhaps the best example in this game. They are tough for their housing cost, are faster and deal higher damage than Giants, and they bypass walls. Casting Rage on a squad of Hog Riders can very quickly demolish most of your enemy's defenses.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: His primary role in the commercials.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Looks like a brutish fighter with a Mr. T-like appearance yet has a very high-pitched soft voice. Ironically, his hog has a voice more befitting of his appearance.

     Valkyrie
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0684e71fff9ef00026e17bfffbef94b4.png
"A master of the two-handed Axe and granted terrible power by Dark Elixir, this glorious warrior crushes enemy troops and buildings with her whirlwind blow!"
  • Artificial Brilliance: During raids on an opponent's base, she will try and find any space between the buildings that she could use her cleave ability on.
  • Artificial Stupidity: The main limiter for the hard-hitting, damage-soaking Valkyrie in Clan Castles is that once she is released, she will attack whatever troop is in sight.
  • Herd-Hitting Attack: Deals high areal splash damage, making her lethal against weaker troops.
  • Lightning Bruiser: She is shown to be far more resilient than she looks, cleaves through greater numbers with ease and also moves fast enough to attack other buildings.
  • Our Valkyries Are Different She isn’t shown to be the psychopomp role that valkyries play in Nordic beliefs, being an elixir-spawned troop like any other.
  • Spin Attack: How the Valkyrie actually attacks.
  • Stripperific: Wears nothing more than a Chainmail Bikini and underwear, yet manages to be even more resilient than both the Giants and the Hog Riders.

     Golem
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e02b746a3f95d1fa9ef4560b86f4b7aa.png
"The mighty Golem loves to soak up damage! When destroyed, it explodes and splits in two. The resulting Golemites have one-fifth the Golem's strength and hitpoints."
  • Achilles' Heel: Before the June 2018 update, it took triple damage from Eagle Artillery. And since the Eagle prioritizes high hit-point troops, note  they went down very quickly.
  • Action Bomb: Deals a substantial amount of damage on buildings upon its death in addition to splitting itself into two Golemites.
  • Asteroids Monster: Splits into two fragments on death, each with 1/5th of its original HP and damage.
  • Damage Sponge: Even tougher than Giants, with even less damage-to-housing ratio.
  • Golem: It’s in the name.
  • No-Sell: Too heavy to be affected by Spring Traps.
  • Stone Wall: Along with their icy cousins (see below), the slowest ground troops in the game, with only the Balloon being slower, and their damage is not really impressive, but have the highest health of all ground troops (second to the Lava Hound among all troops).

     Witch
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f832c0710948b88b6cd2397e2b453e15.png
"The Witch never fights alone, constantly raising dead warriors. Upgraded Witches raise more skeletons at a time."
  • A Mother to Her Men: She acts motherly towards the skeleton troops she summons as shown in side material, even giving them names, tucking them to bed and showing concern for them when off the clock.
  • Dem Bones: Her skeleton troops.
  • Mook Maker: She raises skeletons to fight for her.
  • Necromancer: Again, she raises skeletons for her battles.
  • Purple Is Powerful: She has purple hair and skin.
  • Squishy Wizard: Her skeletons can quickly overwhelm defenses but if she is caught out of position and into tower fire, she goes down incredibly quickly.
  • Zerg Rush: What she uses her skeleton for; to overwhelm any single target defenses.

     Lava Hound
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fbdc7665b2ac851c0441774fa6aee69f.png
"These fiery beasts can't resist chasing after Air Defenses, providing excellent protection for other troops. Once destroyed, they erupt into many smaller, weaker menaces."
  • Action Bomb: Downplayed but Lava Hounds deal a small but noticeable amount of damage upon their death.
  • Asteroids Monster: Like Golems, they split up into smaller units if killed. Upgrading them will cause them to spawn more of them.
  • Call a Smeerp a "Rabbit": They do not look like hounds, but rather winged lava monsters that only vaguely resemble bulldogs.
  • Damage Sponge: They are designed to protect other Air troops from Air Defenses by being the one tanking the damage.
  • Living Lava: They appear to be made out of rocks and lava.
  • Stone Wall: Basically the flying version of Golems; having the weakest damage statistics of any troops (both on an absolute and per-housing-space basis) but also having the highest hit points in the game (even more than an equal-level Golem) to tank Air Defenses.

     Bowler
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bowler_info.png
"This big blue dude digs the simple things in life - Dark Elixir drinks and throwing rocks. His massive boulders bounce off their target and hit again behind it for a double strike!"
  • Glass Cannon: Can quickly destroy swaths of building with their splash abilities but they go down just as quickly.
  • Herd-Hitting Attack: His attack can strike behind their target for another damage.
  • Weaponized Ball: The Bowler's weapon is a large spherical rock resembling an overgrown bowling ball.

     Ice Golem
"The Ice Golem has a chilling personality and absolutely zero sense of humor. He frosts over everything he touches, freezes his surroundings when destroyed and ices up when talked to at a party."
  • Damage Sponge: On a housing-space basis, either slightly higher or slightly lower than Golems, depending on their relative levels. (Golems take up 30 spaces, while Ice Golems take only 15.)
  • Kill It with Ice: When killed, he freezes the surrounding area for a few seconds.
  • Stone Wall: Along with the original Golem, the slowest ground troops in the game, with only the Balloon being slower. Their raw damage is lower than that of Golems, though slightly higher on a per-housing-space basis. As for health, level 1 Ice Golems have more health-per-space than level 1 Golems, but this reverses at higher levels.

     Headhunter
"Headhunter has just one job: taking out enemy heroes. As her other job, she works at the village apothecary. She's lightweight enough to jump over walls and her poisoned weapons make her targets move and attack slower."

    Apprentice Warden
"Despite his grand ambitions, Apprentice Warden is still just a student. Supports troops with his magical Life Aura and less-magical slingshot."
  • King Mook: Inverted. Apprentice Wardens are small versions of the considerably more powerful Grand Warden.
  • Support Party Member: He emits an aura that decreases the damage dealt to troops in his radius.

Heroes

    All
  • Large and in Charge: They are heroes to the public and they are much taller than anything else to stand out.
  • Complete Immortality: Heroes cannot die no matter what and never dissolve into elixir when defeated, but they can be injured (and stunned in the process) and will need to rest after a battle to be in good condition again.
  • Contractual Boss Immunity: They take less damage from a Poison spell than normal troops and are immune to the Spring Trap that otherwise can affect troops regardless of health.
  • Depending on the Artist: 3D modeling for their different cosmetics is outsourced to different studios. Evidently, their models are inconsistent, some more so than others. The Barbarian King is an extreme case of this, after his redesigned 3D model was introduced, as he now has five fingers despite his older skins still having four.
     Barbarian King
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/d865d1caf940a08f81e4ad56d469a44c.jpg
"The Barbarian King is the toughest and meanest barbarian in all the realm, whose appetite for Dark Elixir has caused him to grow to a giant size. He can attack enemy villages or guard your village."
  • King Mook: He's the most dangerous Barbarian and often depicted as their leader.
  • Mighty Glacier: Built to soak up and deal damage. Not very fast though...
    • Lightning Bruiser: ...Until he activates his Iron Fist ability which heals him, grants bonus damage, summons Barbarian mooks, and grants a temporary Rage aura for himself and all friendly Barbarians in range.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: Listen to his screams of pain when he gets hurt.

     Archer Queen
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dd14c61c298abed98f6b277d3ffdce8e.png
"The Archer Queen is an eagle-eyed warrior, whose weapon of choice is a modified X-Bow that few men could dream of wielding. She can attack enemy villages or guard your village."
  • BFG: She wields an X-bow as her primary weapon.
  • Contractual Boss Immunity: Unaffected by Spring Traps and does not receive as much damage from Poison Spells against normal troops.
  • Glass Cannon: Capable of dishing out a lot more damage than the Barbarian King at the tradeoff of being a lot squishier than him.
  • Invisibility: The Archer Queen's special ability of Royal Cloak allows her to become invisible for a short duration, temporarily shielding her from tower fire, while at the same time drastically increasing her attack power and summoning a few Archer mooks to help her.
  • King Mook: She's the most dangerous Archer.
  • Prefers Going Barefoot: As with all Archers, She goes barefoot.

     Grand Warden
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/grand_warden_info.png
"This veteran battle-scholar seeks out groups of friendly troops to fight behind and boost with his Life Aura, and assumes the form of a tower on defence. Attacking, he can walk over walls or fly high, and can make nearby troops immune to damage once his Eternal Tome ability is unlocked!"
  • Dungeon Bypass: He can float over any walls that get in his way whether he is in Air Mode or not.
  • No-Sell: Grand Warden's Eternal Tome ability makes any troops within his aura temporarily immune to all forms of damage. Enough that they can heal even under the effect of an Inferno Tower.
  • Squishy Wizard: The Grand Warden has considerably lower hit points than the rest of the heroes and goes down quite easily if focused, but the support he gives to the troops can be crucial in the total destruction of a base.

     Royal Champion
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clashofclansroyalchampiontvtropes.png
"Over the wall and at them! The Royal Champion is only afraid of four things, and the enemy isn't one of them. She attacks with her spear at short range and throws her shield to take down defenses once her Seeking Shield ability is unlocked!"—-
  • Barely-Changed Dub Name: In the Japanese and Korean translations of the game, she just has the pronunciation of her English name transliterated into katakana and Hangul respectively.
  • Dub Name Change: All the heroes have this by nature of what a translation is but the word choices for hers are more varied. Her title in different translations is chosen to be semantically similar to either champion, general, fighter, gladiator, master, hero, or even war god.
  • Jack of All Stats: In the game she is this, striking a balance between the Barbarian King's high HP and the Archer Queen's high powered ranged attacks.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: She is callous and battle-hardened according to her preview descriptions.
  • Strong and Skilled: This seems to be the case as is supported by her "enviable mental agility" and speed.
  • Throwing Your Shield Always Works: Using Royal Champion's Seeking Shield ability makes her throw her shield as an attack, on top of her recovering a massive amount of health.

Pets

     L.A.S.S.I
"This adorably vicious pup will attack nearby targets and will even jump over Walls to bite the mailman’s leg...and in it’s eye, everything looks like the mailman’s leg."

     Electro Owl
"Mysterious in appearance, this superconductive bird of prey silently glides alongside your Hero, automatically giving that Hero additional points in coolness. Who wouldn’t want a fine-feathered friend with glowing eyes perched on their shoulder? In combat, the Electro Owl shoots a ranged attack that bounces once to a nearby target."
  • Ominous Owl: The Electro Owl attacks using electricity.

     Mighty Yak
"While this messy-haired monstrosity may seem less than menacing, Mighty Yak’s skull and horns are definitely not to be trifled with. Tougher than mountains, Mighty Yak uses its horns to batter a path for its Hero companion by dealing extra damage to Walls."

     Unicorn
"This pulchritudinous pointy-headed prancing pony doesn’t just act as a beacon at night for lost travelers with its glowing horn. Heroes who bask in its regenerative radiance will recover damage over time as their own personal healer!"—-
  • The Medic: Capable of healing up swaths of units over time, making them valuable.
  • Rainbows and Unicorns: The upgrade to the Pet House that unlocks the Hero Pet adds a rainbow to the building.

Siege Machines

     Wall Wrecker
"The Wall Wrecker exists for two simple purposes: smash through anything that it comes across and deliver the Clan Castle troops straight to the heart of the village. Built from heavy duty materials, it can take a pummeling before breaking down. Immune to spell effects."
  • Battering Ram: It focuses on breaking through walls to open a path straight to the Town Hall.
     Battle Blimp
"The Battle Blimp bypasses ground-based obstacles and delivers your Clan Castle troops directly into the heart of the enemy village, all while dropping bombs along the way. However, its thin hide makes it easier to shoot down. Immune to spell effects."
     Stone Slammer
"The Stone Slammer is a heavy-duty, flying mountain that targets defensive buildings by flattening them with giant boulders and causes earthquakes. Immune to spell effects."
     Siege Barracks
"The Siege Barracks parachutes down gracefully to first release a menagerie of P.E.K.K.As and Wizards and then the Clan Castle troops. How they all managed to squeeze inside is a mystery not really worth investigating."
  • Hammerspace: Somehow manages to contain a bunch of Wizards and P.E.K.K.As within a space that can only be described as comically cramped
     Log Launcher
"While the Log Launcher certainly isn't the fastest or the sturdiest, it is definitely among the meanest. The trunk-throwing contraption pummels everything in front of it with endless logs to open up a path to the enemy Town Hall. Immune to spell effects."

Builder Base Troops

     Raged Barbarian
"Why is he so angry, speedy and vicious? Nobody's brave enough to ask. Maybe it's because he can't find his sword?"
  • The Berserker: A very angry troop who rages against the enemy with no mercy.
  • Hulking Out: Have the ability to undergo a super-powered rage for a few seconds once per battle.
     Sneaky Archer
"Cloaked under cover of moonlight, Archers can take out targets before ever being seen. Their weakness? Overconfidence."
     Boxer Giant
"Heavyhanded and built like an ox, these Giants have been practicing their haymaker punch!"
  • Megaton Punch: Their Power Punch ability, unlocked at level 2, multiplies the damage of their first attack by a set percentage that increases as he levels up.
  • Mighty Glacier: Even stronger and more durable than the regular Giant, but is just as slow.
     Beta Minion
"Attacks targets from a distance, glows in the dark, and is a maniac on the dance floor."
     Bomber
"With an appetite for destruction and high-quality special effects, Bombers blow up anything in sight with bonus damage to Walls!"
     Baby Dragon
"Cute, snuggly and prone to fire-spitting tantrums. Rampant destruction has never been so adorable."
  • For this troop's tropes, see "Baby Dragon" in "Elixir Troops" folder.
     Cannon Cart
"A cannon on wheels?! Bet they won't see that coming! Tons of firepower, but not that sturdy!"
     Night Witch
"Fearlessly summons flocks of flying creatures and, unlike her sister, leaves the grass in pristine condition."
     Drop Ship
"Packed to the brim with bones instead of bombs. Skeletons leap out of these balloons directly next to the enemy!"
     Super P.E.K.K.A
"Unstable energy radiates from this powerful suit of dark armor, waiting to be unleashed!"
  • Death-Activated Superpower: Their special ability, Overcharge, which creates a massive explosion once their destroyed.
  • Giant Mook: Is stronger, tougher, and slightly larger than the normal P.E.K.K.A.

Builder Base Hero

     Battle Machine
"The Master Builder's prize invention smashes enemy buildings to bits. What better way is there to show who's the best builder around? Unlock the Electric Hammer ability to give opponents a real pounding!"

Others

    Builder
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_removebg_preview_4.png
Workers that reside in the builder's hut they more often than not simply work on the buildings of your village or removing environmental obstacles.
  • 10-Minute Retirement: During the "Bye Bye Builder" update the Builder got fed up with his things being destroyed endlessly by allies and enemies alike that he outright left the village, leaving the units to do his work in his steed. It lasted until they realized how much they needed him and decided to apologize for their destructive behavior, asking him to return in the "Come Back, Builder" commercial, which he did as he had begun to miss them too during his retirement.
  • Butt-Monkey: The commercials where he appears all have misfortune raining down on his parade, either by his enemies or his own side wrecking his stuff.
  • Non-Action Guy: The builder is one of the few characters in the game that doesn't battles... At least until you reach Town Hall Level 14, at which that point you can upgrade their Huts to allow them to participate in defenses.
  • Stepford Smiler: No matter what he always smiles, even as he visibly starts getting frustrated at his things being destroyed over and over.
  • Took a Level in Badass: For most of the game's experience they couldn't really fight and mostly just sticked to their guns of building. But following the April 12, 2021 update they can join defense battles after upgrading their huts once you reach Town Hall Level 14.
