Guude Boulderfist, Minecraft Let's Play sensation, made a Minecraft survival multiplayer server in 2010 called "Mindcrack". He summoned forth the greatest minds of Minecraft Let's Play, such as Etho, DocM77, BDouble0100, Kurtjmac, Zisteau, MCGamer and many more. The invite-only server has spawned many Let's Plays from most of its residents, spawning prank wars and competitions, such as the Ultra Hardcore series. A separate, modded Mindcrack server has also been created using the Feed the Beast modpack for Minecraft.

  • Ascended Fanboy/ Promoted Fanboy: Many members were viewers of other Mindcrackers before starting their own Let's Plays.
  • Celebrity Endorsement: Any youtuber who gets on can expect a substantial boost in subscribers. Conversely, if a youtuber with a large number of subscribers joins the server, all of the existing members can expect a boost in subscribers.
  • Horny Vikings: self-appointed image by Anderzel.
  • Large Ham: Quite a few of them are. Notably, BDoubleO, GenerikB, MCGamer. And Nebris when he wants to.
  • Laughably Evil: Pyro during Trouble In Terrorist Town. Seems to enjoy Chaos for the sake of it, often throwing props at people and/or shooting them just enough to annoy them, but not enough to kill them.
  • Leitmotif: Many Mindcrackers have an intro/outro song associated with them.
    • Guude has his "You're Watching Guude Boulderfist" intro theme made by Bdubs.
    • SethBling has "Cipher" by Kevin Macleod.
    • OMGchad has "Virtual is Where We Live" by Approaching Nirvana.
    • Aureylian has "Pink Glitter Unicorns Pooping Rainbows" by Approaching Nirvana.
    • BTC has the appropriately-titled "Blame the Controller" by OneSProductions.
    • Zisteau has three; "Bad Ideas (clean)" by Kevin Macleod for his Mindcrack season 3 videos, "Bits with Byte" by 8 Bit Weapon for his season 4 videos, and "If you don't know what to do just steal the amen break" by C418 for his season 5 videos.
    • Arkas has intro/outro songs made by himself for his Mindcrack season 4 videos, and "You're The Fool (2014 Remaster)" by Slynk for season 5 videos.
  • Morality Pet: Aurelian is this to Vechs. PSJ comments that Vechs is "softening up" because of her.
  • Teen Genius: Getting on Mindcrack is already quite a feat (not only do you have to be a good Minecraft player, your computer setup has to be quite powerful and you need to be an experienced youtuber), but Shree got on when he was 13! Of course, he got on through a contest of votes. But still, not everyone can join.
  • Token Evil Teammate: As the author of the Super Hostile series, Vechs plays himself up to be one, though mostly goes for an Evil Overlord approach.
  • The Quiet One: Baj. Kurt has a tendency towards this as well in group settings. Combining the two into Team Fighting Mongooses in UHC season 12 leads to videos littered with (generally brief) pauses.

    Vanilla Minecraft 
  • Berserk Button: Don't touch any Lapis belonging to MCGamer if you want to live.
    • People requesting to join the server.
    • Bdubs does not like comparisons being made between his Mindcrack logo in the Town Hall and a baked potato on a stick.
    • Killing a bat in front of Vechs may have a similar result.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Anderz saves Doc from an infinite loop of death here. and then immediately gets killed by a slime.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: The B Team accuses Etho of this, obviously it was a joke and not meant to be taken seriously.
  • Book Ends: In episode 10 of Paul Soares Jr's Mindcrack season 4 Let's Play, he attempts to place an anvil, which he uses to name Ferris Mueller, on a fence and accidentally places it 3 blocks away on the ground. In episode 57 after the death of Ferris Mueller, Paul tries to place a torch on Ferris's gravestone and accidentally places it on the ground three blocks away.
    • In episode 151 of his main Mindcrack series, Etho starts the episode worried about creepers, and one appears right before his very eyes. The episode ends off with "Oh! More creepers."
  • Bribe Backfire: The B Team try to bribe Baj to find in their favor in the trial; this results in him returning the bribe and adding attempted bribery to the list of charges.
  • The Cameo: Shree, a previous member of the Mindcrack server who left because he got burnt out of the game, returns for one episode to build his UHC monument statue with Guude. He later returned as a VIP guest in Season 5.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The Thumbnails of Zisteau's Mindcrack videos are often clues as to what his next prank will be.
    • The rainbow of colors from episodes 1-26 relate to him building a rainbow in Pause's nether track.
    • The random objects from episodes 27-35 are all materials he uses when turning VintageBeef's castle into Candyland.
    • The various pictures of eyes from episodes 39-47 are all references to the spider eyes he uses in his prank on Guude.
    • Besides this, Etho's anti-rain setup from the Feed the Beast series gives Generik B a head start in the B-Team's Emerald Wars.
  • Cluster F-Bomb: Zisteau let one out at the tail end of a prank video by MCGamer.
  • Comically Small Bribe: Team B try to bribe MCGamer with 31 blocks of Lapis Lazuli, which represents approximately 30 minutes worth of mining on his part.
  • Cutting the Knot: Pause's solution to Generik's Saw-esque prank. It doesn't end well.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Several incidents of the prank wars became this.
    • VintageBeef blocked Guude's safe fall, killing him the next time he used it. In retribution Guude covered Beef's entire castle with vines. Sounds harmless enough, until you remember that most of the vines must be individually whacked off the walls.
    • Guude trapped Zisteau in an obsidian box. In revenge Zisteau turned Guude's house into a spider-cube made of chests filled with over ten thousand spider eyes.
    • Paul blew up GenerikB's RV. In return, Generik covered Paul's house in a mountain of stone taller than the mountain the house was built under.
  • Elaborate Underground Base: Nebris' house and both of Etho's bases.
  • Enemy Mine: While not arch-enemies, the B-Team and Etho agree to temporarily put their feud behind them in order to fight the Wither(s) as a group. Once the Wither(s) die(s) though...
    • Zisteau allies himself with his sworn enemies, Team Canada, to pull off an enormous prank against Guude.
  • Forgettable Character: A running gag on the server is that no one can remember Mhykol's name. The gag culminates in Team Canada pulling a publicity stunt on Mhykol.
  • Gag Penis: As an April Fools' Joke, Baj, Pause, and eventually Beef go around placing obsidian penises around the server.
  • He Knows Too Much: Doesn't lead to outright murder, but Team B place a bomb in Kurt's base along with a message instructing him to 'keep his big mouth shut', as he's the primary witness to their TNT heist. The other witness, Thejims, gets a horse head over his bed which will actually prevent him from respawning in his house.
  • Hub Level: The Nether Hub, which connects to everyone's houses.
  • Humanoid Abomination: Zisteau, to Etho, somehow.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: Subverted with the end of the trial; Baj okays some Last Words, but activates the gallows before anything can be said.
  • Magical Native American: Pause can "control" the weather his rain dances.
  • Running Gag: Every time Kurt fell to his death clearing out the missile silo, Beef replied with Yes!.
    • As a more meta example, during group calls, someone says something that could be perceived as dirty, someone will inevitably say "Secret Saturday"
    • No-one can remember Mhykol's name.
    • For a long time, "Potato on a stick".
  • Sadistic Choice: Used by Generik when he forces Pause to choose between Millbee or Beef. Or he could save both, but lose a ton of valuable items... Ultimately, Pause cheats the trap, but accidentally kills Millbee while trying to free him.
  • The Mafia: What the B-Team seems to be evolving into, what with the bribery, theft, extortion, intimidation, attempted murder and the really nice suits.
  • Unishment: After Team Canada takes advantage of Zisteau's obsessive compulsive tendencies in their prank, he completely remakes Pause's nether track, changing it from a boring tunnel into a huge line with a rainbow and 8 Zisteau Faces. Pause was ecstatic.
    • Zisteau then created a life-sized version of "Candyland" for Beef. You could feel a tinge of sadness in Beef's voice when he expressed his need of tearing it down.
    • Cool and Unusual Punishment: Etho got his base "cleaned" up by Zisteau. It's very nice and tidy, but, nevertheless, Etho didn't like it.
    • Etho created an exact replica of a Minecraft village underwater near Vintage Beef's base. Beef not only loved it so much he refused to even consider it a prank, but he later stated his intention to move into the underwater village.
  • 10-Minute Retirement: After pranking Guude, Zisteau was planning to retire from the prank wars, but Team Canada decided to give him a retirement gift.
  • Thicker Than Water: In the court case between Etho and Team B, Pause, a lawyer for Team B, decides his membership of team Canada is stronger than his connections with Team B.

    The Ultra Hardcore Series 
  • Assassin Outclassin': In Season 5, Zisteau is given a perfect opportunity to strike down Guude. Guude is working at a workbench, distracted, and Zisteau charges at him from behind. After getting hit once, Guude immediately realizes what is happening, dodges Zisteau's next attack, draws his own weapon, and then proceeds to trounce him.
  • Attack Animal: Wolves are often employed by contestants to aid in combat. Notable examples include Season 6, where BDoubleO is killed when he confuses Pause's wolf for his own, the finale of Season 4B, during which two players manage to defeat four, with the help of about fifteen wolves,, Season 7, when Nebris and Kurt fight with about a dozen wolves each, with Nebris winning thanks to a bucket of lava and Season 3, in which Kurt's wolf saves his life during a fight against Pause.
    • Exaggerated in Season 11 by Guude, who has amassed a pack of at least 30 wolves by episode 8. The wolf pack has been named "Guude's Army." They were very effective against Anderzel, not so much against Etho.
  • Attack! Attack... Retreat! Retreat!: Season 14, Episode 9: Kurt and Mhykol, having come up from underground and noticing Pause and Arkas killing off MC and Nebris, decide to rush Pause and Arkas' tower. After running into some bad terrain and getting surrounded by mobs, they immediately call off the attack and head back underground.
  • Animals Hate Him: Despite having a wolf companion in his single-player series, Far Lands or Bust, Kurt often has bad luck with them in Ultra Hardcore. Season 6 marks the third consecutive season in which he was killed by a wolf, and the second in which he was killed by his own wolf.
  • Apologetic Attacker: Etho feels really bad and repeatedly apologizes while attacking Kurt in Season 8, but it doesn't make the battle any less harsh.
    • Bdubs to Kurt in Season 11.
  • Artifact of Doom: In Season 10, GenerikB's head brings nothing but bad luck to anyone who holds it.
    • The curse returns at the end of Season 11.
  • Battle in the Rain: Rain starts up halfway through the final battle of season 3. Unlike most instances, this actually decides the outcome as it foils Kurt's attempt to burn down the forest Guude is hiding in.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Guude in season 4a, saving a terrified Pause from Kurt just when Kurt was about to catch up and slaughter him. It wasn't, however, enough for them to win.
    • Kurt's wolf also counts from season 3, charging in and saving him when Pause appears to have all but won.
  • Big "YES!": MCGamer lets out a couple of these when he wins season 6.
    • Kurt also lets one off when his dog saves him in season 3.
    • Millbee, season 11, after killing Pak.
    Millbee: YWEYAWYWAYAS
    • Vechs in season 17 after becoming the first person in Mindcrack UHC to get the "When Pigs Fly" achievement.
  • *Bleep*-dammit!: "I just made too much fuckin' sticks, god dang it!"
    "Whoa, what the fuck was that?! What the fuck?! What the fuck?! ...what the heck?"
  • Butt-Monkey: Kurt has spectacularly bad luck, with horribly unfair and/or glitchy deaths being the rule rather than the exception for him.
  • Can't Get in Trouble for Nuthin': Contestants will often wander for days trying to find another contestant to get into a fight with.
  • Captain Obvious: Due to the nature of both streaming live for 3-6 hours, the monotony of performing the minimum actions to get started in Minecraft and the long periods of time spent wandering the empty landscape looking for people to kill, the UHC series often fall into this as the Players try to keep up a running commentary.
    • Etho seems to do it for his own amusement - at the very beginning of Season 10, before the game had even started, he brightly announced to the audience and his fellow players: "I'm in a tree!"
  • Chekhov's Gun: Millbee picks up some melons while traversing through the jungle in Season 19. He meets up with Anderzel and Avidya afterwards, who mention that they could make health potions if they got melons. It takes about a full episode for Millbee to realize he's got the melons they need.
  • Cowardly Lion: Kurtjmac is typically among the most cautious and defensive players, but his thrashing of Pause Unpause in season 3, and effortlessly bringing Nebris to near death at the end of season 7 speak for this.
    • In Season 10, Kurt pulls off one of the most tactically clever moves in UHC, stopping his group being outflanked and then manages to kill two players and seriously injure one to the point where he is killed after two shots from Avidya in about three minutes.
    • Bdouble 0 has spawned a catchphrase out of "Anyone but him!" as he consistently expresses concern (fear?) that he has to fight enemies that he feels are far better than he, such as Guude in Season 6 and Kurtjmac in Season 11. Bdouble 0 killed both of them.
  • Curbstomp Battle: MC Gamer ends up surrounded by all of Team Nancy Drew in season 9, and quickly becomes a pincushion.
    • Face Death with Dignity: To MC's credit, he doesn't rage or scream or cry when he realizes the situation. He just quietly states "I'm so dead" once and awaits the inevitable.
    • In Season 11, Anderzel versus Guude and his 30+ wolves.
    • Also in 11, BTC vs Etho which lasted all of 6 seconds. Made even more brutal since it was the final showdown.
    • In Season 17, Nebris's absolute thrashing of Anderz while under the effects of a Notch Apple. With the Resistance effect along with Regeneration V, the poor viking stood no chance.
    Nebris: You don't even know what you're missing. Hit me all you like!
  • Dark Horse Victory: Very few people were expecting MCGamer to win Season 6.
    • Or BTC to win Season 11.
  • Description Cut: Not often practiced in any individual videos, but can occur when viewing multiple perspectives simultaneously. For example, in Season 7 Pakratt and MC believe that Kurt and Zisteau are trying to either get the high ground or flank them, when their perspectives reveal that they're actually running for their lives.
  • Diabolus ex Machina: As if Kurt's glitchy death in Season 5 wasn't bad enough, in Season 8 his internet outright crashes right before he can ambush Etho.
  • Down to the Last Play: Seasons 3 and 4a are both decided by only half a heart, while Season 4b is won by the comparatively wider margin of one heart.
  • Dramatic Thunder: Right after Generikb dies in season 8. A thunderstorm starts up that lasts through the deaths of Mhykol and Doc and went so loud for the next 15 minutes that players at bedrock could hear it.
    • In season 11, a thunderstorm starts moments before Etho kills Generikb.
    • Another thunderstorm starts up just before the first PVP kill of Season 12.
    • Yet another thunderstorm in Season 14 Episode 6, when Guude is killed by Pause.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: Kurt in seasons 5 and 6 with his glitchy wolf-related deaths, plus Doc in Season 8 when he 'suffocates in a wall' thanks to a bug.
    • Pause in Season 11, winner of the two previous seasons, accidentally looks at an Enderman while exploring a cavern, and goes out in the first episode for the first time in UHC history.
    • How does Arkas go out in season 15? A creeper drops down directly behind him and explodes before Arkas even sees it, instantly killing him. And he was at full health & almost at full iron too...
    • Just_defy in season 5. After caving for several minutes with little trouble, a quick relog finds JD mysteriously dead. Explanation
  • Drunken Master: In season 12, Zisteau states that he is one, noting that he is less nervous and frantic when he's had a few bottles.
    • Team Old Yeller' (Generik and Baj) in season 14. Their inebriation seems to cause them a lot of early problems, losing a lot of health. But eventually they find 10 diamonds, enchant, and head to the nether, where Generik gets his very first kill on Pakratt despite Pak's health advantage, thanks to his enchants. However, the fact they had three hearts between them afterwards did not serve them well when they ran into Pause and Arkas.
  • Eliminated from the Race: The contestants must gather food, hunt animals and fight each other to be the last man standing. Viewers enjoy choosing a contestant to cheer for, and follow their point of view on their YouTube channel. There is always much disappointment from fans when a contestant is eliminated.
  • Endless Daytime: A rule tacked on for season 11. Because of this, more mobs will spawn underground due to there being no hostile mobs on the surface to hit the server's mob cap, making caving more dangerous this season.
    • This rule was also used in seasons 16 and 17.
  • Epic Fail: In Season 12 jl2579 digs a 1x1x2 hole in the ground while running from a skeleton and Doc jumps in after him, getting both of them stuck. In the process of trying to dig out, Doc hits JL for a total of 4 hearts, leaving him with 4 hearts left. The best part is that one of them was allowed to relog and fix the problem.
    • In Season 18, Vechs decides to start throwing eggs at his team-mates for fun... Which ends up knocking Coe off the edge of a cliff, costing him half of his health.
      • In UHC 19, Pakratt accidentally kills Sethbling, his teammate, allowing Vechs and BTC to quickly beat him, and also resulting in his first UHC kill.
    • In Season 22, MC Gamer and Jsano spend nearly two episodes stalking multiple teams underground. MC, whilst digging, uncovers someone hiding right next him, swings his sword... and kills Jsano, his team-mate.
  • Evil Tower of Ominousness: The result of Zisteau deciding to head to the center of the map and play Skyblock after failing to find enough diamonds to craft an enchanting table in season 11. The top of the tower is not only above vertical bow range, but also has lava flowing down the sides.
    • High-Altitude Battle: Anderzel is the first to find Zisteau's tower, and after exchanging taunts for a while, Anderzel pillars up above the top of Zisteau's tower and the two start firing arrows at each other.
  • Foe-Tossing Charge: Bdubs in Season 4b, hacking up wolves left and right in order to reach Guude and have a proper Duel to the Death. Ultimately, there are too many wolves and he's overwhelmed, but not before he makes Guude nearly crap his pants in terror.
  • Foreshadowing: Vechs has done this four times with his thumbnails; the first three times, it's been some sort of controversial event.
    • In Season 17, his thumbnail shows him riding a pig with a Carrot on a Stick. He dies when he rides a pig off a cliff, earning the "When Pigs Fly" achievement.
    • In Season 18, his thumbnail shows an egg in the center. He throws an egg at his teammate Coestar right before the final battle, causing him to fall off a cliff and lose half his health.
    • In Season 19, his thumbnail shows a Nether landscape. He ends up trapped in the Nether, and has to wait for a long time for Nebris and BTC to rescue him. The controversy? Due to a bug with the UHC plugin, natural health regeneration is on in the Nether, which allows Vechs and BTC to emerge victorious from the final 2v5 battle against SethBling, Pakratt, MC, Anderzel, and Avidya in a Nether fortress.
    • In Season 21, his thumbnail started out as a Notch Apple, but slowly faded to an Ender Pearl over time. Pakratt gets a Notch apple several episodes in. Vechs and Nebris manage to take him out despite this advantage by baiting Pakratt into eating the apple by sending Nebris in, Nebris immediately (well, almost) Ender Pearling out, letting the regen from the apple wear off, and then engaging him.
  • For the Evulz: Zisteau's approach in Season 6. "I don't care about winning, I just want to destroy as much as possible." Humorously enough, not only does he wreak havoc on the world, he also makes it to the final four, and might have done better had he not taken a bathroom break at the worst possible moment.
  • Friend or Foe?: In Season 22, MCGamer mistakes his teammate, JSano19, for an enemy player and kills him.
  • Friendly Rivalry: Pause and Etho, despite both being members of Team Canada and do frequent co-ops between them often fight each other. Pause wins every time it happens in a UHC: in season 3, 5, 6, 10, 13 and finally, 15, Pause kills Etho. The other friendly rivalry Pause has is with BdoubleO. In Season 4 & 5, Pause kills BdoubleO. However, in season 7, BdoubleO managed to kill Pause before he burned to death from Pause's fire aspect sword.
    • A lesser known rivalry is between Etho and Team Canada's other member Vintage Beef. In Season 4b Beef killed Etho, but then in Seasons 5, 6, 8, and 11 Etho killed Beef with Beef barely landing a hit on him.
  • From the Mouths of Babes: Although less so, since he's getting older, but even though he was only 13 (which by then, one should have quite the vocabulary), in his early LP days, it was quite unsettling to hear Shree's little boy voice dropping F-bombs.
  • Game-Breaking Bug:
    • Ludicrous Speed: Throughout season 12, the game's internal clock was gradually speeding up, making it so that all time based events are faster than normal, as well as mobs moving faster than they should be, making it difficult to defend against them. At the end of episode 5, it had gotten so bad that the server needed to be restarted.
      • Sethbling had appropriately named his episode 5: "They've Gone to Plaid".
    • Season 19 had a bug in which health would regenerate in the Nether.
  • God Mode : Nebris in Season 17. He successfully found enough gold to create a Notch Apple (72 gold ingots, 8 blocks). When he later ate it when fighting Anzerzel, he took absolutely no damage from all the arrows that he was hit with.
  • Good Is Not Soft: This becomes very apparent in Season 6 when the cheerful, bubbly, motormouthed Anderz turns out to be an incredibly daring spelunker, and an archer to be feared.
  • Happy Flashback: In Season 4b, this occurs right before the final showdown in Guude's and BDoubleO's perspectives.
  • Harder Than Hard: Ultra Hardcore presents a whole new challenge: not only do the contestants not respawn after dying, but you can only regain health through golden apples (which now need ingots instead of nuggets) or health potions. Having a full hunger bar does nothing.
  • "Hell, Yes!" Moment: Kurt has one of these almost by name when his wolf saves his life in Season 3.
    • Zisteau discovering a golden apple in a dungeon chest in season 6.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Kurt in Season 4a when he buys his team time to flank Guude and Pause at the cost of his own life by distracting them.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: In season 7, Guude and Bdubs hide their Nether portal by building a large mound of dirt over it. Amazingly this does work several episodes later, with Pause walking right past the portal and failing to notice or even hear it.
    • In season 5, Pakratt builds a mob system in one of the highest traffic points of the map, a village. Nearly everyone who passes by fails to notice that it's there, even while staring directly at it.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: In season 10, Avidya very nearly kills Zisteau with a lava bucket, and even comments on how good it would have been to pull off said kill.
    • In season 11, after vacating his tower, Zisteau gets killed while caving by the lava that he himself placed. And in season 14, it almost happened again to him when he tried to kill Etho with a bucket of lava, only surviving because Etho placed some water to defend himself.
    • Often happens to Kurt as well, who lost seasons 5 & 6 due to his dogs killing him.
    • Happens to Aureylian, to some extent, in season 17. Aureylian is on top of a villager house when Vintage Beef comes up the ladder towards her. Despite having the upper hand from the start, she instead places a bucket of lava. Beef can escape back down the ladder, she can't go anywhere. While it's Beef that ultimately slays her, the damage she took from the lava didn't help.
  • Hope Spot: Occurs in both Seasons 4a and 4b, first when Guude and Pause kill Kurt but are themselves killed soon after and then when Bdubs nearly defeats Guude but is ultimately overwhelmed by Guude's pack of wolves.
    • In season 3, Baj finally finds a good amount of food after spending most of the season finding no animals besides sheep and failing to grow wheat. He is eliminated shortly after finding it.
    • In season 19, Kurt and Beef are attacked by the team of Pause, Pyro, and MC Gamer. They have a brief moment of celebration after taking down Pause and Pyro, before being ambushed and killed by MC, who they were unaware of.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: Throughout Season 6 of Ultra Hardcore, Zisteau spent his time making paintings, setting random fires and getting increasingly drunk. Nearly all the damage he took was self-inflicted, either by stumbling off a cliff or accidentally setting a fire below his feet. He also made it to the final four. One can only imagine what he would be capable of if he were to take the contest seriously.
  • Idiot Ball: Kurt gets saddled with this on occasion, as seen when he obsesses over "resetting his spawn" in Season 3 and complains about how hard it is to get string while walking right past cobwebs in Season 6. In Season 16 he dives at Baj and places lava on him to kill Baj, but it kills Kurt too.
  • Inner Monologue: In season 10, BTC freezes the video right before he dies and starts giving one, then stops himself and realizes that he is about to die.
  • Million to One Chance: In Season 11, Bdubs narrowly avoids a battle between Nebris and Pyro and is close enough to grab the dead players' items before they despawn. This includes all the potions and potion making materials Nebris had been gathering, Pyro's enchanting table, and other useful items. By being in the right place at the right time, Bdubs went from 2.5 hearts with no enchanted items to full health, enchanted items, and potions. Now if only he hadn't forgotten about that one potion...
  • Mutual Kill: Occurs with Pause and Nebris in Season 6, Pause and Bdubs in Season 7, and Nebris and Pyro in Season 11.
  • Kill It with Fire: MC puts this to good use in Seasons 6, 8, and 10.
    • Zisteau's preferred M.O. whenever the opportunity arises.
    • VintageBeef tries it against Kurt in Season 3, dumping lava besides him while Kurt is looking in a chest. Fortunately for Kurt, Beef missed.... and instead the lava started to pour down the stairs that he was trying to climb up!
  • Mêlée à Trois: In Season 8, after remarking that it was quiet, Etho runs into Beef then while fighting him, is sneak attacked by Pyro. After he kills both of them, MC shows up. MC would have killed Etho, if it weren't for the nearby water. Ultimately of the final five, only Pakratt was left out.
  • My Friends... and Zoidberg: In Season one of the "gimmicks" was that the only way an enchanting table could be obtained was with a PvP kill, including team kills.[[/note]]
  • Never Split the Party: In Season 13 Pakratt splits off from his team after finding a desert temple this in turn causes Sethbling to search for him resulting in Pakratt's death during episode 1
    • Inverted in Seasons 19 and 21
    • Season 19's gimmick involved 2 teams of 10 where spreadplayers was without respect to teams starting the season out alone and ending ending with a lopsided Last Stand
    • Season 21's gimmick involved people teaming up with the first person they found. Players typically expect in UHC for either teams or individual events. as a consequence Pakratt 0013, Pyro_0, and Vintage Beef never found a team.
  • Oh, Crap!: Pause lets out a big one when he sees Kurt in the finale of Season 4a.
    Pause: Fuck, KURT'S HERE! Kurt's here Kurt's here Kurt's here!
    Beef has a similar Freak Out upon seeing Kurt in Season 4b's finale.
    • Also happens to Kurt and Zisteau when they run into Pakratt and MCGamer in Season 7.
    • Another moment: In Season 3, Beef goes to the Nether, and when he comes back out, he ends up in Pause's Nether portal. The fact that Kurt has just murdered Pause and is sorting through his items only strengthens the effect.
    • MCGamer's reaction to Etho and Pakratt's trap in season 10. It's not as effective as they'd have liked it to be, only doing 2.5 hearts of damage to MC
    • Pyro and Doc's reaction to see Dinnerbone, MCGamer, and OldGanon charging them right after they just finished a stressful fight with another team in Season 16
  • One-Man Army:
    • Nebris, with some help from his teammate Just_Defy, in Season 7 with five kills,
    • Etho in Season 8, a free-for-all season, with six kills,
    • Sethbling in season 13, with some help of his teammates BDoubleO and OldManWillakers, with six kills as well, and finally,
    • PauseUnpause in season 14 with seven kills, with some help of his teammate Arkas.
    • Kurt has strong showings of this, as in season 20 he got a double kill with a stone sword (admittedly, he had potions) and then a triple kill against green team when it was just him and Doc left on his team, with said teammate falling against Aureylian and Sevadus while Kurt killed the other two and slew Aureylian after Doc fell, before dying himself, leaving Sevadus at only 1.5 hearts.
    • During Season 21 Pakratt 0013, Pyro_0, and Vintage Beef never found a team and thus this was a solo season for them.
  • Opposing Combat Philosophies: In Season 3, Kurt and Pause fight each other a few episodes in. With Pause being well established as the most aggressive fighter of the group, and Kurt being a very cautious and defensive combatant, their showdown is the embodiment of this trope. Ultimately, Pause gets careless and Kurt's wolf does him in. However, this is also a partial subversion of their usual styles, as while both of them stick to their usual tactics in the actual showdown, the prelude is marked by Pause carefully scouting out his opponent while Kurt blindly wanders into a clearly inhabited area without a care in the world.
    • Also occurs in Season 6 when the bold and daring Anderzel faces off with the careful and overly-cautious MCGamer. MCGamer wins.]]
  • Out of the Inferno: In Season 3, Etho and Pause meet in the Nether. Pause charges and Etho retreats, using his flint and tinder to erect a barrier of fire between them, clearly hoping to give his attacker pause for thought. Pause charges through the fire, unflinching, and knocks Etho off a cliff, killing him.
    • Occurs again in Season 15, MCGamer flees from Pyro while lighting fire between them. Pyro charges through unfazed and kills MC.
  • Rasputinian Death: Anderzel in Season 6 is shot, stabbed, attacked by dogs, partially drowned, and then stabbed again before he finally expires.
  • Redemption Equals Death: Baj in Season 1, when he accidentally drops Beef into a dungeon, then goes in after him and dies saving him from the zombies.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: After his entire team is wiped out by Pause and Anderz in season 13, Pyro takes them both out in an ambush and then drops Beef to half a heart before his death to Guude.
    • In season 14, Pyro himself dies because he tried to rush Sethbling and Anderz and got killed as a result. Avidya, his teammate, responded by taking them both out and staying alive himself, though at half a heart
  • Running Gag: Kurt got killed by wolves a lot in earlier seasons.
    • In every free-for-all , Pause kills Etho.
    • Guude messing up the season number during the introduction.
    • Pakratt has gone out first in four of the nine seasons he has competed in.
  • Self-Destructive Charge: Baj in Season 7 of Ultra Hardcore, running straight at Nebris in an attempt to stab him, despite being shot at and attacked by dogs, when a) Baj has a bow, b)Nebris is weak enough to be one-shotted by said bow, and c) Baj is fully aware of this fact.
  • Serial Escalation: Kurt's increasingly horrific luck counts. The first inkling was in season 3, when he was about to smoke Guude out, only to be foiled by a sudden rainstorm. Season 5 was probably the most infamous occurrence, in which he got glitch-killed by his own wolves from full health and with a good set of equipment. Season 6 again featured him being killed by his own dog, this time due to its inherently evil nature. Season 7 transferred the bad luck to his partner Zisteau, who got repeatedly assaulted by mobs appearing out of nowhere, while Kurt got to have a good death for once in battle. Season 8 upped the absurdity by killing Kurt when his internet connection failed, and Season 9 became the most ridiculous example yet when Kurt became the first person in the history of not just Mindcrack UHC, but ALL OF MINECRAFT to lose at full health. Then in Season 14 he runs into a witch early on and gets knocked down to half a heart by poison. In Season 16 he successful drops a lava bucket on Baj to quickly kill him, but the lava kills Kurt too.
  • Simultaneous Arcs: In every season of UHC there are several people playing, each with their own perspective being recorded. This trope could not possibly be averted.
  • Skewed Priorities: In Season 6, one of Zisteau's main goals is to find sheep in order to get wool for the sole purpose of making paintings.
    • He does it again in Season 10 and lugs along a record. When he later finds diamonds, he uses one to make a jukebox (rather than upgrade weapons or armor) and plays the record.
    • In Season 13, Old Man Willakers' team ends up with so much gold, he decides to make a gold sword instead of saving those ingots for another apple.
      • In the next episode, he makes a jukebox, leading some people to dub that team "Uppercats II".
    • In Season 15, Vechs' team builds a base at 0,0 and places a Nether portal in it. Vechs repeatedly obsesses over bringing a nametag in to name a Zombie Pigman {Zisteau}, and he later does this, despite knowing both that an enemy team is preparing to attack them, and that the trip will result in a long travel back to his team due to portal mechanics.
  • Sniper Duel: In Season 3, the season finale comes down to one between Kurt and Guude.
    • Anders' shot towards Team Sobriety in Season 10
  • Snow Means Death: Most players tend to avoid Snow Biomes as as the tall trees make it difficult to see nearby enemies, and (until they get white/silver colored Iron Armour) they stand out as easy targets against the stark white ground.
    • More literally in the Season 3 finale. Guude and Kurt agree to meet up at the middle of the map, which is right on the edge between Desert and Snow biomes. When it starts to snow and he can't see what he's shooting at, it's the beginning of the end for Kurt.
  • Sole Survivor: Guude in season 13. His team mates Pause and Anderz, kill Paulsoares, Grumm, and Etho on team 'No!'. Then, the last surviving member, Pyro kills both of them. When Beef and Guude find Pyro, he knocks Beef to a half a heart before Guude kills him. Beef is killed by a zombie shortly after. Two teams of four, eight men entered, one man left. Guude.
    • In season 15, BTC is the only survivor of the fight between his team and the team of Seth, Etho and Arkas, who died earlier.
    • In season 19, MCGamer survives with just half a heart after finishing off Kurt and Beef, who had just killed Pause and Pyro.
  • Soundtrack Dissonance: At the end of season 10, while a team are waiting for a deciding battle to begin, the upbeat, serene music of the Cat disc is played.
    • Once again in Season 13, when Team All Business is sneaking up to ambush Team Old-Bdouble-Rat-Bling.
  • Spirit Advisor: In team seasons, most players exit the call once they've died, but Pakratt has stuck around to give advice to his teammates in Seasons 9, 12, 13, and 18.
  • Taking You with Me: Guude's plan in Season 8 when he attacks Adlington; he's as good as dead anyway, but he can at least make sure Adlington doesn't win either.
    • After the massacre of his team in season 13 Pyro manages a double-kill on Pause and Anders. When their team-mates Guude and VintageBeef find him, he gets Beef down to half a heart before Guude kills him. Ultimately though, this was Beef's downfall, as he was surprised by a zombie shortly afterwards..
    • During the fight between Team Old-BDoubleO-Ratt-Bling and Team BAND in season 13 BdoubleO charges up the hill into Doc, Baj, and Avidya, dying in the process but doing massive damage to all three (with some friendly fire from Baj on Doc), this allowed Seth and OldManWillakers to finish them off.
  • Tempting Fate: In Season 8, Etho remarks that it's very quiet just before all hell breaks loose in a 4-man desert battle.
    • In Season 12, Zisteau and Pakratt discuss dying and being ambushed in a village during the first episode. A thunderstorm starts up during that talk, and sure enough, Pakratt is killed by Sethbling.
    • At the start of season 13, BdoubleO tells Pakratt not to die, since he died in the first episode the previous season. Pakratt replies by saying that the guy who killed him last season, Sethbling, is right here on his team, so nothing's going to happen to him. What happens at the end of the first episode? Pakratt is slain by VintageBeef.
    • One in Season 17, when Sevadus comes across a village and remarks that the chances of encountering another player there is low - turns out Nebris had reached the village before Sev, and when Sev spots Nebris he makes a run for it.
    Sevadus: I think we started about 300 (blocks) apart, or something like that? So the likelihood of somebody actually being at this village is pretty darn low. But- OH GOD! Nebris is right there! And I'm out!
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: In season 21, Pakratt doesn't quite manage the win, but he puts up an admirable fight against Nebris and Vechs, even gaining his first real UHC kill against Vechs.
  • Too Dumb to Live: BDouble0, in multiple seasons, has lost due to ridiculous mistakes. In Season 10, he puts on generikb's head as a joke, but surprises Zisteau and gets attacked. This ultimately was his team's downfall, as when it was just Bdubs vs. Pause, he didn't have enough hearts to out-shoot Pause. And in Season 11, he witnesses the Nebris vs. Pyro mutual kill and sweeps in to take Nebris' potions. But while organizing his items, leaves one health potion in the chest and doesn't burn it. Etho picked it up, and when the two fought, the battle would have gone in Bdubs' favor if Etho hadn't been able to drink that potion. Bdubs even noticed his mistake after, and interjected a short video claiming he was sharing.
    • In Season 10, Jsano's failure to shift at a critical moment causes his death and the death of his teammate.
  • Trap Master: In Season 5, Nebris promises his viewers that he will set a trap before he dies, and sure enough, he eventually pulls it off. Pity nobody tripped it during the battle proper.
    • During his post-Season-7 2 hour UHC discussion video, in which he explained a little bit about his playing style, Nebris revealed that he had many ideas for traps that he was very enthusiastic to try in later seasons.
    • In Season 10, Etho and Pakratt create a lava trap in an old hidey-hole. MCGamer triggers it, but it only does 2.5 hearts of damage.
    • This is Pakratt's preferred fighting style, as opposed to everyone else's direct PVP methods of combat.
  • Trapped in Another World: In Season 19, Vechs and Jsano enter the Nether, looking for potions. They find the fortress looted and when Jsano tries to exit, he finds it trapped. This results in Vechs being stuck for several episodes, unable to leave without dying, until the rest of his team joined him (season 19 had two teams, but everyone started separated and they had to find their teammates as well as gear). It started a serious controversy as Nether Regen was still on and the final battle took place in the Nether, allowing Vechs and BTC to take the victory despite being outgeared and outnumbered due to their opponents trickling in one at a time.
  • Trash Talk: Very much so in later seasons. Other contestants are more than happy to take a jab at Pakratt's tendency to die first, BTC's tendency to hide in a cave, Pause's tendency to kill Etho...
  • Walking the Earth: Many of the contestants in Seasons 3, 5 and 6 spend most of their time wandering the map without a home, searching for other players to kill.
  • Why Won't You Die?:
    • Etho's battle with BdoubleO in Season 11. Bdubs has health potions, meaning Etho had to inflict a full thirty-four hearts of damage in order to kill him.
    • Anderzel vs Nebris in Season 17. Nebris ate a Notch Apple, giving him Regeneration V for 30 seconds, as well as Resistance and Fire Resistance for five minutes. Anderzel and his power 1 arrows didn't stand a chance, despite hitting Nebris several times.

    Other Games 
  • Brutal Honesty: In Guude's Walking Dead Let's Play, he is often brutally honest, conveying his own feelings through the choices instead of lying.
  • Down to the Last Play: The B-Team Race to Commander series is ultimately decided by a margin of less than one kill.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Often the case in Trouble in Terrorist Town. Often a player will make a team with another player (often for no real reason) only for them to be shot in the back once their back was turned.
