she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportRenaming sounds like the obvious solution here; Annoying Bug Buzz? Or for the alliteration, Bothersome Bug Buzz?
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI like GastonRabbit's suggestion, Bugged By Buzzing Bugs.
Rock'n'roll never dies!7/88 actually isn't a high rate of misuse. We generally assume 10% misuse is normal for most tropes and more than that is concerning.
"It's just a show; I should really just relax"Though when it comes to ZCEs and wick checks, they often have to be assumed a form of misuse as it's literally impossible to know for sure (if you don't know the work).
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI will say that almost none of the on-page examples fit the supposed definition, and most of them are about insect noises as a soundtrack feature or way to establish a setting.
"It's just a show; I should really just relax"How tropeworthy is that idea?
Ehh, I'm on the fence. It feel a little chairsy, but including insect sounds does tie the setting to a specific climate and time of year, and is an easy way to avert It's Always Spring.
A lot of the ZC Es in the wick check also seem to be ambient soundtrack usage rather than true ZCE. And many of the correct examples imply annoyance rather than spelling out a character reaction.
"It's just a show; I should really just relax"We do have Cicadian Rhythm to indicate bugs + summer...
Ahh, a lot of misuse can go there then. So I guess I'm ok with renaming, although I'm a little concerned we don't have much to go on.
Hmm, the page quote on and image on Cicadian Rhythm both overlap with this.

"It's just a show; I should really just relax"Maybe we should merge Bug Buzz and Cicadian Rhythm, if only because neither has a very high wick count. I haven't really thought about it much yet (I didn't know about Cicadian Rhythm until now), so I'm not going to vote on that either way at the moment
Either way, Bug Buzz's name isn't clear and is probably causing the ZCE issues; I still like my past suggestion of Bugged By Buzzing Bugs (as ccorb mentioned; I forgot what thread I posted that in), but Bothersome Bug Buzz is good, too.
(I might need some more time to fully think about the situation; I haven't been awake for very long.)

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.^ Makes no sense. Cicadian Rhythm is a settings trope, Bug Buzz a plot trope. A rename and cleanup should fix the issue with misuse and ZCE.

I'm thinking a rename is probably best.
I'd like to apologize for all this.I'm supportive of a rename.
(Don't) take me home.Fair enough. Let's leave Cicadian Rhythm alone and rename and clean up Bug Buzz.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I think the description also needs a bit of a rewrite. It's too barebones and unclear. The first paragraph is basically a short statement sayin "some insect buzz are annoying". Then it proceeds to list types of insects and their buzzes, without focusing on their annoying-ness.
I can see why people who read this get the impression it's just "insects make buzz sounds".
I think the trope should be limited to cases where the buzz either:
A) Causes in-universe annoyance (such as a mosquito keeping someone awake) or a flight reaction ( trying to escape a wasp);
B) Announces someting bad will happen, such as buzzing flies that announce there is a body up ahead; or the buzz accompanying the attack of insect-like creatures in large numbers (such as the Changelings in MLP; or the wasp-like Grimm in RWBY).
The cases where insectile species communicate through buzzing would probably fit better under Starfish Language.
More generic "insects make buzzing sounds" situations are PSOC.
As for a name, since not every buzz listed comes from bugs, I would propose: Bad Buzz.

Everything can be found on the Internet... except common sense. That first one is the current definition of Bug Buzz, the second one would be one we would have to TLP.
Rock'n'roll never dies!I agree that the second definition is distinct enough to be separate from this trope.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. The second definition (buzzing indicates death) is currently covered by Flies Equals Evil (the decomposition variant). Although I have always been dissatisfied with that trope trying to cover two concepts (buzzing around living evil entities and buzzing heralds corpses).
Agree to this being limited to in-universe annoyance.
Macron's notesI think it would be worth splitting that trope, since flies' association with death and their association with evil are distinct enough to be separate. That said, that's probably outside the scope of this thread, and might be worth adding to Tropes Needing TRS if it isn't on there already.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. Is their something for when the buzz sound itself is a sound attack ?
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."
Crown Description:
Bug Buzz has an ambiguous title, is underused, and not all uses fit the definition. It was also pointed out that Flies Equals Evil has an ambiguous definition.
This trope's chairs-sounding title is attracting Zero Context Examples and leading to underuse for a seemingly common trope.
Compare Quaking with Fear being renamed from Knees Knocking Together and Commercialized Christmas being renamed from Green Christmas, which were also cases of common tropes having unusually small wick counts. Sandbox
