Our hero Incredi-Girl!

Incredi-Girl is a Retraux Superhero series made up by Magnus Force. Inspired by the creator's love for the Tokusatsu and Kaiju works of Eiji Tsuburaya (particularly Godzilla and Ultraman), it is a half-story-driven, half-episodic series with themes of heroism, adolescence, and family.

Next Sunday A.D. in an Alternate History where the aesthetics of the Atomic Age still reign, humanity has overcome the troubles of the Cold War, but now finds itself beset by Kaiju and Alien Invasions, having experienced these attacks since 1954. The international defense organization Global Threat Response (GTR), established in 1966, protects Earth against these threats, but even despite the fact their hi-tech vehicles and weaponry have kept the nations of the world safe for many years, alien invaders remain a persistent problem and new kaiju are popping up nearly every year. In fact, not a single kaiju has been successfully destroyed by GTR so far, even despite GTR's consistent success in defeating alien invaders and driving kaiju away from city centers.

Living in this world is Janice Taniguchi, a courageous but impatient Japanese-American teenager from the Americasian metropolis of Ishiro City in California. Her mom is a leading kaiju scientist, her dad is the captain of the local GTR squad, and her 10-year-old brother is a massive fan of Tokusatsu superheroes. Janice spends her time engaging in typical teenage girl stuff — attending school, hanging with her friends, fantasizing about her crush, etc. However, Janice is also tired of having to constantly take refuge in bunkers or evacuate the city whenever a kaiju shows up. She hopes that someday the kaiju menace can be dealt with for good, but deep down, she wonders if such a thing is even possible — it's not like she can do anything to help against giant monsters.

But on her 15th birthday, Janice receives a strange gift from her eccentric Uncle Mori (a scientist working for GTR's Aliens Division) in the form of a locket shaped like a heart with the tail of a shooting star. This mysterious locket is accompanied by a note that reads "I hope you have what it takes to open the Heart Comet". Janice as perplexed as she is frustrated by this message, as she just can't seem to get the Heart Comet to open. But when a kaiju attacks Ishiro City for the umpteenth time in Janice's life, and Janice chooses to stand her ground and save some people from its rampage, she uncovers a miraculous power. In a flash of light, the Heart Comet opens up and transforms her into a pink-and-white-uniformed superhero with the power to fight and destroy kaiju!

With this amazing new power, Janice assumes the identity of the superhero Incredi-Girl, blessed with the power of fly at supersonic speed, the sheer strength and durability of a kaiju, and two powerful Finishing Moves in the form of a Hand Blast called the Incredi-Beam and a flying blade of energy called the Comet Cutter. Now able to transform once every 24 hours by opening the Heart Comet at its will, Janice becomes Incredi-Girl to battle various kaiju, as well as the occasional alien invader (always affiliated with the Kaiju of the Week). With a little help from her friends and family, Janice juggles her ordinary teenage life with protecting the world and destroying kaiju, all while learning what it means to be a hero and discovering the secrets that lie within the Heart Comet.

    Characters

Janice Taniguchi / Incredi-Girl

Janice Taniguchi is the hero of our story, a 15-year-old Japanese-American girl from Ishiro City, California able to transform into the superhero Incredi-Girl using the mysterious powers of a strange locket known as the Heart Comet. Fearless and outspoken, Janice possesses a strong sense of justice and a deep love for her friends and family, but above all else, her greatest hope is to see a world safe from kaiju. Deep down though, she is uncertain if she really can make a difference and if it even is possible to make the world a better place, sometimes fearing that even her superpowers are useless in the face of so much strife and cruelty. As a result, she can be impatient and easily frustrated, being quick to demand immediate change and action when it seems like nothing is being done. Nevertheless, Janice is kind, caring, and determined to do whatever she can to help others, even if she doesn't always believe her efforts will succeed.

Incredi-Girl is Janice's superhero form, which she assumes by opening the Heart Comet at its will. Incredi-Girl wears a pink-and-white suit with a white skirt, pink leggings and boots, and a white helmet with pink bug-eyed goggles and a white crest. She possess supersonic flight, Super-Strength that allows her to lift up to 100 thousand tons, and Super-Toughness that allows her to survive a nuclear explosion unharmed. Additionally, she has two special kaiju-destroying Finishing Moves, a Kamehame Hadoken-styled beam from her right fist called the Incredi-Beam and a flying blade of slicing energy called the Comet Cutter that she creates through a slashing gesture. However, maintaining this form for long periods is extremely exhausting for Janice — using her special attacks even moreso — and she is usually left completely drained of energy after transforming to fight a kaiju. Afterwards, Janice cannot transform again for 24 hours.

Dr. Fujiko Taniguchi

Dr. Taniguchi is Janice's mother and one of the world's leading authorities on kaiju. Having been fascinated with kaiju at a young age after she barely survived a kaiju attack on Tokyo as a little girl (and lost her parents in the process), Dr. Taniguchi is fully aware of how awesomely powerful and terrifying kaiju are. As a result, she takes her research very seriously, knowing every breakthrough offers new insights into the nature of kaiju and is another step to protecting the world from their menace. With Janice having assumed the mantle of a kaiju-fighting superhero, Dr. Taniguchi holds high expectations for her daughter and will not tolerate any irresponsibility from Janice. And while her strictness and regular nagging does get on Janice's nerves, Dr. Taniguchi is nonetheless a supportive and caring mother who is completely confident in her daughter's potential to become a true hero and make a difference in the world.

Captain Shinichiro Taniguchi

Captain Taniguchi is Janice's father and the leader of Ishiro City's local GTR Squad, the team that responds to appearances by kaiju in the area. A veteran GTR officer who has served in both Japan and the United States, Captain Taniguchi is fully aware of the fact that GTR has never successfully killed a kaiju (so far) and has only ever managed to temporarily drive them away. For this reason, he primarily focuses on protecting people instead, doing everything in his power to ensure minimal casualties, be they civilians or GTR officers. Authoritative, calm, patient, and professional, he sees himself as a father to his team and leads them in the same way he parents Janice — sternly but warmly. A loving and supportive father to Janice, he encourages his team to assist Incredi-Girl in any way they can during their battles against kaiju — although he keep Janice's identity as Incredi-Girl secret from them for his daughter's sake.

Zachary Taniguchi

Zach is Janice's 10-year-old brother, an adventurous and mischievous young boy obsessed with Tokusatsu-style superheroes. Naturally, Zach believes the fact that his sister is Incredi-Girl is the most awesome thing ever (although that does not stop him from being her Annoying Younger Sibling). Due to his great desire to become a hero like those from the shows he loves, he often invites himself as a stowaway on the others' escapades against kaiju, much to their frustration. However, he can be very helpful in dealing with kaiju, thanks to his keen eye for detail and talent for imaginative strategies (not that it saves him from getting punished by his parents afterwards) — which he later channels into a passion for making his own homemade Toku movies. But despite how much of a handful he can be, Zach will always be Incredi-Girl's biggest fan, often cheering her on from the sidelines against the Monster of the Week.

Laura Miller

Laura is Janice's best friend since kindergarten. Sweet, gentle, and peaceable, Laura always does her best to help and comfort those who have been hurt — a trait that her first-aid training and knowledge of caretaking as an aspiring nurse often help her with. However, she finds herself overwhelmed by paralyzing fear when faced with danger — especially if said danger is a kaiju, as her parents were killed during a kaiju rampage years ago. Due to her trauma, Laura is very timid and actively avoids conflict or threats, always trying to mediate fights. However, she greatly admires Janice's bravery, often wishing she could be more like her friend (ironically, Janice admires Laura's peacemaking skills, as their classmates find her boldness intimidating). After discovering her best friend is Incredi-Girl (which the Taniguchis originally wanted to keep a family secret), she is determined to do her best to support Janice however she can.

Tetsuo Watanabe

Tetsuo is Janice's friend, classmate, and neighbor. A journalist and photographer for the school paper, Tetsuo dreams of someday nailing his breakout scoop and is always eager to pursue a story, especially the ones involving kaiju, aliens, and GTR. And while he possesses a strong sense of integrity and a fierce dedication to hard work, his inexperience and enthusiasm makes it very easy for others to walk all over him or manipulate him. In particular, his fellow school reporters often push him around and take advantage of him, pranking him with wild-goose chases, stealing credit for his stories, and giving him false hope. And while Janice is the only person bold and vocal enough to stand up for him, Tetsuo often shrugs off his misfortunes as "learning the ropes of a cutthroat business". Nevertheless, Tetsuo hopes to repay Janice's heroism — something he finds plenty of opportunities for after learning she is Incredi-Girl.

Cameron Flint

Cam is Janice's crush and classmate, a teenage cadet on the Ishiro City GTR Squad who shares her dream of making the world a better place. Cheerful and easygoing, Cam lacks Janice's insecurities about whether said dream is even achievable, fully confident in his belief that serving in GTR will let him make a difference. As the youngest ever GTR officer, Cam is treated as an errand boy by his older teammates. Cam's father was actually their previous squad leader until a kaiju killed him many years ago, which means the others worry for his safety. Still, Cam is determined to prove himself a worthy member of the team and deeply admires Captain Taniguchi, whom he views as a surrogate father. Cam is aware of Janice's crush on him, but is reluctant to return her feelings, believing it would hurt her deeply if a kaiju killed him, just like his father's death did for him — then again, he doesn't know that Janice is secretly Incredi-Girl...

Ishiro City GTR Squad

The Ishiro City GTR Squad is Captain Taniguchi's team of officers, all trained in the usage of laser firearms and given their own hi-tech aircraft to pilot. They all possess deep respect for Captain Taniguchi (who pilots the magnificent Jet Eagle), but tend to treat their cadet Cam like a child, although not out of malice. Regardless, they are one of GTR's best teams and loyal allies of Incredi-Girl, all friends with the Taniguchis despite not being in on Janice's superhero identity.

The team is composed of:

  • Adam Nelson, a loud and boisterous "macho man"-type who loves working out and is always eager to fight kaiju. The biggest and strongest member of the team, he also wields the biggest and strongest firearm of the team, a bazooka-like ray gun known as the Kaiju-Buster. Despite appearances though, he has a soft spot for children and is extremely protective of teenagers; in particular, he cares very deeply for Cam's safety. He pilots the heavy-duty Jet Condor.

  • Jiro Yamada, an audacious Ace Pilot whose flying skills are unmatched among GTR officers worldwide. Despite his reckless love of taking risks and his nearly suicidal bravery, he is a cheerful and good-natured fellow who always sports a smile on his face. When not going on patrol as excuse to enjoy high-speed flights in the sky, he's usually seen training alongside Adam, despite being much smaller and slimmer than him. He pilots the lightning-fast Jet Swallow.

  • Akane Koishi, a cute, perky sharpshooter who is frighteningly good with a gun despite her tiny size. She is perpetually optimistic, incredibly sweet, and very excitable, but when it comes to confronting kaiju and aliens, she is fierce fighter capable of sniping targets with extreme precision. She is in a happy long-term relationship with Jiro, and the two frequently partner together on missions (the two know when to be professional though). She pilots the graceful Jet Swan.

  • Pati Chartham, a snarky strategist and technology expert from the ancient Central Asian country of Barajistan. She's not exactly the talkative type and is usually in her lab planning strategies, managing computer databases, and testing technology when not on the field. But despite her loner attitude and tendency for bluntness, she cares a lot for her teammates and is very proud of her Baraji heritage, typically dressed in a hijab. She pilots the gadget-loaded Jet Owl.

Uncle Daisuke Mori

Uncle Mori is Dr. Taniguchi's older brother, making him Janice and Zach's uncle. He is a scientist for GTR's Aliens Division at Paris Headquarters, which deals with alien invasions and other incidents involving extraterrestrials. His job is to develop new technologies by reverse-engineering salvaged alien tech, with many of these inventions being sent by him to his sister and her family as gifts. In contrast to his sister's stern professionalism, Uncle Mori is a silly, jovial, and fun-loving goofball who approaches everything with a hearty laugh and a smile as wide as his sizeable waistline. He loves trying to get his sister and brother-in-law to crack up, and he adores his niece and nephew. It was he who gifted Janice with the Heart Comet for her 15th birthday, and he is always eager to help his sister's family whenever something's up with the Heart Comet (which the Taniguchis initially assume to be just another of his inventions...).

Bemar of Orion

Bemar of Orion is Uncle Mori's best friend and longtime co-worker, a bird-like alien from a distant star. Having come to Earth during the 1967 Invasion Wars, Bemar made a name for himself helping GTR thwart the numerous alien invaders attacking the planet at the time, soon becoming one of the organization's most trusted members (although his presence is a GTR secret). A longtime traveler of the cosmos who has witnessed countless horrors, Bemar loves Earth as his home, considering it the most beautiful and wondrous of all worlds and deserving of all the protection it can get. Noble and compassionate, he despises wickedness and cruelty, especially when it is directed towards the innocent and the kind. It was he who created the Heart Comet to oppose evil, and he who asked Uncle Mori to give it to Janice, for the Heart Comet had told Bemar that Janice possessed the heart of a hero needed to wield its power.

Lord Vurt

Lord Vurt is Bemar's twin brother and the greatest villain in the cosmos. The brutal ruler of a galaxy-spanning empire, he has subjugated countless worlds and committed numerous atrocities. He views the universe as little more than something to exploit for his own ends and will ruthlessly exterminate any opposition to his ambitions of cosmic domination. He especially despises his brother Bemar, who created the Heart Comet in hopes of finding somebody who could put an end to Vurt's unrestrained cruelty and mad quest for power. Vurt however is no slouch in battle, possessing formidable psychic powers from years of self-cultivation and creating alien kaiju capable of destroying entire planets. His powers have in turn disfigured him to such a degree that he now only barely resembles Bemar, who once had similar but less intense abilities that he lost long ago after a failed attempt to defeat Lord Vurt in direct combat

Melba of the Shooting Star

Melba of the Shooting Star is the secret of the Heart Comet, a beautiful, pink-and-white, humanoid alien princess whose spirit is held within the Heart Comet and in turn grants Janice the power to become Incredi-Girl. Many centuries ago, Melba, with the help of her friend Bemar, led a great war of resistance against Lord Vurt. Vurt responded with a genocide against Melba's species that ended in the destruction of her planet. Melba continued to fight against Vurt, but was ultimately defeated. As she laid dying, she asked Bemar to ensure her efforts would not be forgotten and thus for nothing. To this end, Bemar created the Heart Comet and placed her spirit inside it, vowing to find a worthy successor to her heroic legacy — someone who carried the heroic resolve she did, that is the courage to fight against seemingly impossible odds to protect others and the hope to make the world a better place than it was before.

    Kaiju

In General

Kaiju are the primary foes of Incredi-Girl, the gigantic monsters that menace humanity in Janice's world. Dozens of kaiju are known, and despite GTR's long-time success in protecting the world's nations from these titanic creatures, none have been successfully destroyed and new ones continue to emerge. Although diverse in appearances, abilities, and behaviors, most kaiju stand 50 meters tall and weigh 20 thousand tons. They typically possess bipedal postures that resemble People in Rubber Suits and are extremely territorial to others of their kind. While the first kaiju became known to humanity in 1954, it is suspected that these living natural disasters may have actually started emerging in 1945 after the first atomic bomb test. However, archaeological evidence from the ancient Central Asian nation of Barajistan suggests many of the kaiju on record are incredibly ancient creatures that likely predate human civilization.

Kamakaran

Kamakaran is a mantis-like kaiju with long arms ending in curved scythe-like blades and wings hidden in its back. It has no special powers, but a single swing of its bladed arms can slice a skyscraper in two. It is the first kaiju battled by Incredi-Girl, its appearance helping Janice unlock the power of the Heart Comet.

Barrasaurus

Barrasaurus is a four-legged kaiju resembling a reptilian rhinoceros with a single giant horn on its snout. The single most powerful and efficient burrower among all kaiju, it is able to tunnel through even solid rock at mind-blowing speeds, becoming impossible for pursuers to follow. Additionally, it is able to breathe fire.

Ebikraken

Ebikraken is a marine kaiju resembling a giant crab with an octopus-shaped head. It lives on the seafloor, where it feeds on oil deposits, but human activity has attracted it to the surface. It converts the oil it consumes into superheated flammable ink and foam capable of melting steel that it sprays from its mouth.

Bokunkumo

Bokunkumo is a tarantula-like kaiju with six arms. It is unusual among kaiju because it actively hunts humans. It stalks its quarry using its ability to turn invisible, capturing them with globs of webbing it spits from its mouth and blasting them with bolts of energy from its eight eyes before grabbing and consuming them.

Voltophorus

Voltophorus is a kaiju resembling a giant eel with limbs, as well as an extraordinarily long neck and tail. It feeds entirely on electricity, able to drain an entire city of power in mere minutes. Its appetite in turn empowers its abilities, allowing it to breathe lightning and electrocute anything it makes physical contact with.

Macheran

Macheran is a pterosaur-like kaiju with traits from Rhamphorhynchus and Quetzalcoatlus. It is the fastest of all kaiju, flying at several dozen times the speed of sound. So fast is this kaiju that it leaves explosive shockwaves in its wake. Additionally, it is able to spit out a stream of small fireballs at rapid speed.

Kindroid

Kindroid is a humanoid Tin-Can Robot kaiju with two massive antennae on its domed head. Built by GTR as the ultimate in Earth defense, it went rogue due to sabotage from its traitorous and disgruntled creator. It is able to fly using jets in its heels, fire its fists like homing rockets, and shoot lightning from its antennae.

Soushimons

Soushimons is a two-headed kaiju — its left head thin and beaky, its right head toothy and burly — with two tails and different limbs on each side of its body. It was brought to Earth by alien invaders many years ago, but has remained behind since their defeat. Both heads can breathe fire and shoot Eye Beams.

Kuwakabu

Kuwakabu is a beetle-like kaiju with traits from an Atlas beetle, Japanese rhinoceros beetle, and European stag beetle. It has no special powers, but can fly and is able to withstand Incredi-Girl's Finishing Moves. It is mysteriously attracted to an ancient Heart Comet-like artifact from Barajistan called the Eagle Star.

Ultrasaurus

Ultrasaurus is a dinosaur kaiju resembling a hybrid of T. rex, Triceratops, and Ankylosaurus. It was illegally captured by a MegaCorp to bank off Incredi-Girl's fame, but even she finds its strength and ferocity to be too much. It has no special powers, but becomes the first kaiju to survive a fight with Incredi-Girl.

Tortons

Tortons is a kaiju resembling an alligator snapping turtle with spikey domed shell. It is able to breathe high-pressure jets of superheated steam capable of melting steel and knocking enemies back hundreds of feet. Additionally, it can retreat into its shell and fire these same steam jets from all openings.

Shibagon

Shibagon is a yeti-like kaiju with a magnificent lion-like mane. Unlike most kaiju, it is a peaceful creature that keeps to itself in its home deep in the mountains, being the first non-violent kaiju Incredi-Girl faces. While it doesn't have any special powers, it is extremely strong, even for its size, and surprisingly intelligent.

Imperior

Imperior is a kaiju resembling a bipedal Stegosaurus with a crown-like cluster of horns on its head. It was the very first kaiju to appear in modern history and is considered the most dangerous and powerful of all kaiju on record (so far). On top of its great strength and spiked tail, it is also able to breathe fire.

Submersaur

Submersaur is an aquatic kaiju resembling a mix of a crocodile and a barracuda. Only able to breathe underwater, it avoids coming to land, instead attacking ships and submersibles. It has the ability to fire waves of destructive sound from its mouth, which it also uses for echolocation in its underwater environment.

Geodell

Geodell is a four-legged Rock Monster kaiju with massive crystal spikes on its shoulders and a drill-tipped snout made of a diamond-like substance. Originating from outer space, it landed on Earth in the form of an asteroid to find rocks and minerals to consume. It is able to spit explosive meteors from its mouth.

Cydraco

Cydraco is a dragon-like Cyborg kaiju outfitted with robotic enhancements to its tail, wings, eyes, limbs, and jaws. It was created by alien invaders from the corpse of a kaiju killed by another. A plethora of laser cannons and missile launchers are hidden all over its body, and it fires these en masse at opponents.

Magmons

Magmons is a four-legged kaiju resembling a Brontosaurus with a volcano-like hump on its back streaming with lava. It originates from beneath the Earth, but has been driven upwards by seismic activity. On top of being able to expel lava from its mouth and hump, it constantly radiates extreme heat from its fiery body.

Kuragelas

Kuragelas is a jellyfish-shaped kaiju with countless tentacles streaming down from its body. It originates from outer space, but has descended into Earth's atmosphere to consume matter. Its tentacles can extend their length endlessly and regenerate whenever destroyed; only its bell-shaped body can be harmed.

Zemiking

Zemiking is a kaiju resembling a cicada nymph mixed with a toe-biter. It has wings for flying, but more significantly, they allow it to produce a constant cicada-like buzzing that disables all technology within hearing radius — the Heart Comet included! It is also able to spew fire from its long and pointy proboscis.

Phoedragon

Phoedragon is an avian kaiju combining traits from Archaeopteryx and a hoatzin, with thick, powerful legs. Originally found slumbering inside an active volcano, it was awoken by an eruption. It is a poor flyer, but it is able to breathe out a deadly stream of superheated ash and toxic smoke from its beak.

Imomushin

Imomushin is a caterpillar kaiju that most closely resembles a hickory horned devil. It was an ordinary caterpillar that grew to a gigantic size from eating nothing but radioactive vegetation, and is just as docile as a normal caterpillar. It defends itself with its poisonous spines and by spraying sticky silk from its mouth.

Sasori Rex

Sasori Rex is a scorpion-like kaiju with long, segmented arms and an even longer, segmented tail. Rather than a stinger, its tail ends in a thin, needle-like tube that sprays concentrated jets of acid like a hose. Additionally, its arms are able to stretch like rubber, allowing it to strike with its pincers at extraordinary lengths.

Ganuras

Ganuras is a damselfly-shaped kaiju with a stinger on its tail and vicious mandibles. It is the queen of a swarm of man-sized insects resembling dragonfly nymphs. It fires bolts of paralyzing energy from its stinger, then using special frequencies to command its army of spawn to attack the unfortunate victim.

Kajiking

Kajiking is a kaiju resembling a bipedal swordfish with a shark-like fin and a long, bladed snout studded in teeth like a sawfish. Originating from the depths of the sea, its snout functions like a chainsaw, capable of cutting even the most pressure-resistant submarines in half. Otherwise though, it has no special powers.

Limulodon

Limulodon is a sea-dwelling kaiju shaped like a trilobite or horseshoe crab, but with a long, thin, spiny tail resembling a trident. It is believed to be the most ancient of all kaiju, having slowly grown to its current size over 500 million years. Otherwise, it has no special powers, save for its three-pronged, whip-like tail.

Yadoro

Yadoro is a kaiju with a hermit crab-like upper body, a slug-like lower body, and a Turbo sazae-like shell. It is very slow and hides inside its indestructible shell most of the time. When inside its shell though, it produces an adhesive to glue itself to the ground, becoming impossible for even Incredi-Girl to move.

Scimitora

Scimitora is a kaiju resembling a bipedal tiger with huge fangs like a sabertooth cat, blades on its wrists, and a blade-tipped tail. It is extraordinarily swift and agile for a kaiju, possessing lightning reflexes and borderline Super-Speed that allow it to dodge and strike without warning. Additionally, it is able to breathe fire.

Ikkakudra

Ikkakudra is a kaiju resembling an Iguanodon, but with a single massive sword-like horn growing from the back of its head and a tail ending in an axe blade. It has the unusual ability to remove its horn from its head and swing it like a sword or even throw it like a giant boomerang. It is also able to breathe fire.

Mukadevil

Mukadevil is a slender kaiju with a long neck, a centipede-like head, and a segmented body with many tiny spikes down its sides. Its long tail ends in pincers powerful enough to crush a tank and able to inject an agonizing venom capable of incapacitating even other kaiju. Additionally, it is also able to breathe fire.

Arctigon

Arctigon is a kaiju resembling a bipedal polar bear with the head of a woolly mammoth. It possesses a sub-zero body temperature so intensely cold it causes blizzards and cold snaps with its mere presence. It is also able to breathe out a blast of freezing mist that instantly encases anything it touches in ice.

Umigigas

Umigigas is a humanoid kaiju with smooth, hairless, skin and no facial features save for two huge black eyes. Lonesome and forlorn, it is the last surviving member of a peaceful species of ocean-dwelling giants called Ningen, which were hunted to extinction by ancient humans. It has no special powers though.

Hotarugas

Hotarugas is a firefly-like kaiju with huge glowing eyes and a long bioluminescent tail like a glowworm. Its primary power is to fire intense bolts of light from its abdomen that blind any living beings they strike. It supplements its power with the ability to fly with the wings hidden in its back and the ability to breathe fire.

Tetsuwings

Tetsuwings is a kaiju resembling a bipedal griffon, except its great wings are composed of an unknown metallic substance. The steely feathers on its wings are razor-sharp, able to cut a car in two and typically fired from its wings in a massive windstorm generated with a single flap. It is also able to breathe fire.

Namazaki

Namazaki is a kaiju resembling a mix of a Japanese giant salamander and a wels catfish. A highly efficient burrower and swimmer, it possesses a powerful Vacuum Mouth it uses to suck up vast amounts of earth and water from below. It is then able to spew out what it swallows in the form of a colossal mudslide.

Arikuimon

Arikuimon is a kaiju with the body and limbs of a giant ground sloth and the head and tail of an anteater. A peaceful kaiju, it dwells in the Andes Mountains with its house-sized cub, interested only in raising its playful, friendly, and highly inquisitive baby in quiet isolation. It is able to breathe fire, although its baby cannot.

Kasekiller

Kasekiller is the fossilized remains of an unknown dinosaur kaiju with traits from theropods and ornithopods. Reanimated by alien spores of unknown origin, it lurches like a zombie, its body still partly encased in rock. Said spores grant it the ability to absorb ranged attacks and fire them back through its eyes or mouth.

Dokugas

Dokugas is a four-legged kaiju composed of vegetation, with a clusters of plants growing along its back. It was mutated from mysterious alien cells mingling with the DNA of Earth plants. Its body converts water and sunlight into massive amounts of toxic gas that endlessly spew forth from the plants on its back.

Titanogama

Titanogama is a short, fat kaiju resembling a Pacman frog or African bullfrog standing on two legs. It is not a very good jumper for a frog and not especially strong as far as kaiju go, but it is able to use its long, powerful tongue as a whip or to constrict opponents to great effect. It is also able to spit small fireballs.

Togesaurus

Togesaurus is a four-legged kaiju that strongly resembles Dimetrodon, with rows of tall, bony spikes down its back in place of a sail. These spikes run all the way to its tail and are very loose, allowing them to be flung with a simple shake of its body and then growing back seconds later. It is also able to breathe fire.

Leviadra

Leviadra is a sea serpent kaiju with small flippers, a plesiosaur-like head, huge glowing eyes, a tadpole-like tail fin, and a lure on its head. The longest kaiju on record, it dwells in the ruins of Mu near Barajistan, apparently guarding ancient artifacts. It is able to fire bolts of electrical energy from its eyes and lure.

King Inago

King Inago is a grasshopper-like kaiju with long stilt-like legs, four arms, and very long antennae. Its legs allow it to perform extraordinary leaps, able to jump thousands of feet into the air and over hundreds of miles in a single bound without warning. It is also able to fire bolts of lightning from its antennae.

Victoron

Victoron is an alien kaiju resembling a monstrous hybrid of a dragon and a beetle, albeit with an Eyeless Face and arms ending in smaller but identical heads. The most powerful of all kaiju, it was created by Lord Vurt to destroy entire planets in his name; in fact, it was the very kaiju that destroyed the homeworld of Melba of the Shooting Star and killed her. Its great strength and flight capabilities are complemented by its huge arsenal of deadly powers — it is able to breathe fire, shoot lightning from its arms, consume energy-based attacks, regenerate lost body parts, create a reflective force field, and even manipulate gravity.

Janice's World and The Story of the Heart Comet

Janice's World

  • Janice's world is a Retraux Alternate History set Next Sunday A.D. Although it takes place in the twenty-first century, Janice's world strongly resembles the Atomic Age of the 1960s. This also applies to many aspects of the world's political geography; for instance, the Soviet Union still exists as a world power.

  • However, in Janice's world, the greatest threats to humanity and world peace are a variety of kaiju and alien invaders. In fact, so great are these threats that in this timeline, the Cold War ended prematurely as a result of Earth's first alien invasion in 1957, which attacked both the Soviet Union and the United States.

  • The first kaiju attack was on Tokyo in 1954, with further attacks in 1955 on San Francisco, 1956 on Moscow, 1957 on New York, and 1958 on Peking proving it was not a freak incident. In the 1960s, the number of new kaiju skyrocketed, peaking at over 50 in 1966 alone. This became known as The Monster Boom.

  • Alien invaders also returned with a vengeance during the 1960s, after two additional incidents occurred in 1958 and 1959 against Britain and France. These waves of invaders peaked in 1967 in what are known today as the Invasion Wars. Nearly 50 occurred that year along although not all as large-scale attacks.

  • In response to the alarming increase of kaiju and alien attacks, Global Threat Response (GTR) was established in 1966 in an agreement signed by the United States, the Soviet Union, France, and Japan. Although headquartered in Paris, they have squads of officers stationed in major cities across the globe.

  • GTR possesses state-of-the-art anti-kaiju weaponry, from ray guns and hi-tech aircraft to maser tanks and satellite cannons, all built from salvaged alien technology reverse-engineered by its Aliens Division. Some of the tech salvaged however has been repurposed for more mundane use in regular society.

  • GTR's Aliens Division, established in response to the Invasion Wars, is a separate faction from the regular squads of officers that comprise most of GTR. They function more as The Men in Black, minus the secrecy, but also cooperate with the rest of GTR against alien kaiju (the first appearing in 1964 in New Delhi).

  • In Janice's world, any large town or city with decent infrastructure has civilian protections, like sirens and bunkers. Ishiro City is typical of Janice's world in this regard. It is an Americasian metropolis located between Los Angeles and San Francisco, established by Japanese-Americans in the late 19th century.

  • Also existing in Janice's world is Barajistan, a small Fictional Country sandwiched between Iran and India along the Arabian Sea. Its rugged landscape hosts numerous ruins from a seafaring civilization dating to the Paleolithic known as Mu, which the modern Baraji people seem to be primarily descended from.

  • Curiously, artifacts from the Mu civilization depict kaiju and preserve evidence of kaiju attacks. There also exists a Mu artifact called the Eagle Star, a star-shaped object depicting a humanoid bird. Other Mu artifacts preserve evidence suggesting the Eagle Star granted its bearers the power to defeat kaiju.

The Story of the Heart Comet

  • Thousands of years ago, there lived two brothers named Bemar and Vurt, both of whom resembled winged, humanoid birds similar to Garuda or a Tengu. Travelers of the cosmos possessing great power, they were the Last of Their Kind, the sole survivors of a now-forgotten race hailing from a distant star.

  • Bemar and Vurt both hoped to preserve their people's memory, believing the universe itself held the answer. Whereas Bemar saw the cosmos as full of beauty and wonder he vowed to protect as his legacy, Vurt saw only opportunity and power that he believed needed to be harnessed for this great purpose.

  • Determined to harness the whole cosmos to maintaining a legacy, Vurt began a conquest of the universe, subjugating entire worlds and enslaving their peoples with the ambition of molding all existence into his image. To this end, he cultivated his power, growing stronger at the cost of his own disfigurement.

  • Horrified by Vurt's ravages upon the universe, Bemar confronted him in battle. Vurt defeated Bemar easily and then tried to take his brother's power for himself. To thwart Vurt, Bemar created the Eagle Star and placed his power in it before hurling it deep into space, where it eventually landed in Mu on Earth.

  • Needing a new plan, Bemar then fled for a planet far from Vurt's conquests, the peaceful and prosperous world of Hikaria, whose people were respected by their entire galaxy as great warriors who honored peace and stood against evil. There, Bemar befriended the planet's royal family and warned them of Vurt.

  • In due time, Vurt's forces reached Hikaria and its galaxy, but thanks to Bemar, they were prepared. Led by Hikaria's princess Melba and with Bemar by their side, Hikaria and its allies fiercely fought back against Vurt. They nearly won, but then Vurt unleashed his newest weapon on them — the kaiju Victoron.

  • Victoron turned the tide for Vurt, who then directed the kaiju to Hikaria and ordered it to destroy the planet and all its inhabitants. Melba continued to fight back, but was ultimately defeated by Victoron. Bemar took her to safety as she was dying, hearing her pleas to ensure her efforts would not be in vain.

  • To preserve Melba's legacy and defeat Vurt in the future, Bemar created the Heart Comet as an improved version of the Eagle Star, placing her spirit in it. He then fled the collapsing planet and from Vurt, travelling through the cosmos for many millennia in search of a worthy torchbearer to Melba's legacy.

  • Eventually, Bemar arrived on Earth, which at the time was in the midst of the 1967 Invasion Wars. Impressed by the bravery humanity showed against the many alien invaders, Bemar lent his aid to GTR, helping them thwart numerous alien plots and soon becoming an invaluable member of the organization.

  • Once the Invasion Wars ended, Bemar chose to remain on Earth, enchanted by the planet and its people. But even though he now considered Earth his home, Bemar never forgot his promise to Melba or his vow to defeat Vurt, believing he would find Melba's successor among the inhabitants of Earth...

Tropes of the series:

  • Action Girl: Pretty much any female member of GTR can be this, and of course, Incredi-Girl herself.
  • Alien Invasion: Earth has experiences a lot of these in this universe (most prominently during the 1967 Invasion Wars), and still occasionally gets hit by one. Not all of them are massive large-scale assaults; some are covert operations meant to weaken Earth for a quick subjugation.
  • Aliens Are Bastards: Lots of alien invasions have certainly given extraterrestrials a reputation for this in the series' universe.
  • Alternate History: The setting has elements of this, due to the kaiju and aliens, as well as the premature end of the Cold War (among other things). The most significant of these is that unlike in our world, the Soviet Union still exists, while Japan and France are much more influential in global politics.
  • Americasia: Ishiro City is meant to look like a mixture of 60s Japan and modern California.
  • Atlantis: The ancient civilization of Mu in Barajistan was the inspiration for this legend, only its located along the coast of the Indian Ocean. It is the oldest civilization in human history, existing when the rest of humanity was still living in caves, and it seems to have significant knowledge of kaiju, as they are frequently depicted in its art.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Given its inspirations, it's no surprise this trope is a key part of the series.
  • Cool Plane: Like the Ultra Series, GTR has several of these - Jet Eagle, Jet Condor, Jet Owl, Jet Swan, and Jet Swallow.
  • Cool Ship: GTR has the Mighty Ryujin, a gigantic armored submarine combining the best elements of the Mighty Jack and the Gotengo.
  • Creature-Hunter Organization: GTR is to this series as Science Patrol is to Ultraman, fighting kaiju and aliens to protect world peace.
  • Defeat Equals Explosion: Like the Ultra Series, the kaiju all explode when they die.
  • Family-Friendly Firearms: Like in Ultraman, GTR uses rayguns to shoot the monsters, although unlike normal weapons, these actually can (somewhat) hurt the monsters.
  • Finishing Move: Justified here by the fact that Incredi-Girl's flashy beam attacks require huge energy expenditure, so it's safest for her to use them as finishing moves rather than waste them early and be left too exhausted to fight while the kaiju is still alive.
  • Henshin Hero: The eponymous Incredi-Girl, thanks to her main inspirations.
  • Hero Secret Service: GTR fills this role in the same way Science Patrol did for Ultraman.
  • Homage: To Tokusatsu series and kaiju movies. The series' aesthetic is heavily inspired by them, and there are tons of references to them. Even the general setting is heavily inspired by the future as depicted in Ultraman and by the hopes and ideals of Godzilla director Ishirō Honda.
  • Humanoid Aliens: All of the aliens, due to the series generally following the rubber-suit aesthetic for creature design.
  • Kaiju: Obviously! They form the series' regular threats and are all designed with 60s kaiju in mind (like the monsters of the original Ultraman and the Showa Godzilla movies). Many are also walking homages to Ultra Series and Godzilla kaiju.
  • Meaningful Name: Many of the kaiju have names that mean something in Japanese. Likewise, Ishiro City is full of places named after people involved in Ultraman and Godzilla (including the city itself, although the Taniguchis also live on Nakajima Road and Janice's school is called Tanaka High; there's also the Ifukube Music Hall). Heck, even some of the citizens of Ishiro City get their names from people in Ultraman and Godzilla (Mayor Takarada, Principal Saperstein, anchorman Martin Burr...)
  • Monster of the Week: Like the Ultra Series, most episodes deal with a kaiju showing up and causing trouble.
  • Next Sunday A.D.: Set in a retro version of such, just like the original Ultraman and Destroy All Monsters.
  • People in Rubber Suits: Most of the kaiju (and all of the aliens) are meant to look like such; the kaiju that aren't instead look like they could be played by puppets.
  • Retraux: The series is inspired mainly by 1960s Tokusatsu, so the setting looks like it came straight out of Japan during the 1960s, and the technology and kaiju look like they came from the Tokusatsu of that era.
  • Shout-Out: References to Toku series and Kaiju movies, especially the films and TV shows of the 1960s done by Eiji Tsuburaya and Ishirō Honda, abound, but some of you might also note GTR's fighter jets (Jet Eagle, Jet Condor, Jet Swallow, Jet Swan, and Jet Owl) are all named in homage to Science Ninja Team Gatchaman.
  • Show Within a Show: The series has a few, all of which Zach is a huge fan of.
    • Zach is a huge fan of Masked Squadron, a pastiche of Super Sentai and Kamen Rider about a team of youth transform into masked superheroes with different themes each season to battle various human-sized monsters.
    • A series brought up from time to time as the rival franchise of Masked Squadron is Cyber Samurai, a parody of Denkou Choujin Gridman about a computerized warrior who battles virus monsters created by an evil overlord.
    • The setting's equivalent to Mickey Mouse is Zooky-kun, a parody of Kaiju Booska who is a boy's bearded dragon turned into a goofy human-sized creature with magic powers after the kid wished for him to be the greatest pet ever.
  • Significant Reference Date: Pretty much all the major historical dates in the series are this, matching with the release date of various works that inspired it. The original 1954 kaiju attack references Godzilla; the original 1957 alien invasion references The Mysterians; the establishment of GTR in 1966 references Ultraman; and the 1967 Invasion Wars references Ultraseven.
  • Tank Goodness: Maser tanks like those seen in the Godzilla movies appear.
  • To Win Without Fighting: Just like in the Ultra Series, peaceful/non-malevolent kaiju sometimes show up and have to be subdued without killing them.
  • Transformation Trinket: The Heart Comet and how it performs this are important parts of the series.
  • Ultraman Copy: Incredi-Girl, while human-sized, is very much based on Ultraman, which is most prominent in her appearance and powers, as well as her habit of fighting kaiju.
