S2 - Ep 8: Death To Normality - Part 3

Luz's fight continues to fight to the death what's left of the Wittebane assassins even as Gravesfield falls apart around them in her rampage. Just as it looks like its finally over a new challenger appears.

This chapter contains examples of:

  • Ability Mixing:
  • Adaptational Badass: Thanks to Shigaraki, Hunter has been gifted with 4 powerful Quirks, making him much more powerful than in the show.
  • And Show It to You: Luz kills Charlie by ripping out her still beating heart from behind and crushes it with her bare hands as the assassin is Forced to Watch, then stealing her Quirk.
  • Asshole Victim:
    • The assassins' fate at the hands of Luz was gruesome, but considering what they have done, it's not like they didn't earn it and then some, especially Jonah.
    • Jacob Hopkins gets killed in the crossfire by falling rubble from Luz's attack.
  • Aura Vision: With this Luz notes that not only is Millie NOT a Quirk user but the Golden Guard has FOUR.
  • Avenging the Villain: Millie is hellbent on avenging Riley's death at Luz's hands. It seems Riley's Villainous Friendship with the witch was mutual and beyond mere professionalism.
  • Badass Finger Snap: Jonah does this to command Charlie to stop firing onto Luz, believing her to be dead.
  • Battle Aura: Luz radiates black and red lightning giving this impression.
  • Benevolent Boss: Hunter goes out of his way to rescue Millie from Luz.
  • Bilingual Bonus: Luz speaks in Spanish when giving her Pre-Mortem One-Liner to Jonah.
  • Blood from the Mouth: Specks of blood come flying out of Luz's after Jonah punches her in the face.
  • Body Horror: Luz survives the Macross Missile Massacre but is badly burnt by the heat with her muscle and skin growing back.
  • Calling Your Attacks: Luz sometimes does this like "Forcefield Cannon" and "Limitless Gravity Volley". This makes All For One nostalgic.
Shigaraki: Named attacks? I heard that kind of thing in my world. I even had a few. You’re quite the natural.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Jonah is not above psychological warfare against his target.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: Luz describes her battle with Jonah as this now.
The battle started immediately. Although, to call it a battle would be like calling someone attempting to stomp on a bug a couple of times before succeeding, a battle; which wasn’t true.
  • Death Glare: Millie gives Luz one these despite being at her mercy.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Luz briefly goes into this before Shigaraki snaps her out of it.
  • Dies Wide Open: Charlie is killed almost instantly by Luz but with a look of shock and pain marring his face.
  • Dwindling Party: Each assassin gets killed by Luz's hands until it results in a Total Party Kill.
It was over. They were dead. The Assassins were dead.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Hunter has become this thanks to the first All For One a decade ago.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Considering his judging look, the Golden Guard may be fighting not only because of Just Following Orders but to also avenge the dead innocent bystanders of Luz's fights.
  • Evil Has a Bad Sense of Humor: Jonah bursts out laughing when he tricks Luz into destroying her mother's corpse, making her believe she just became a Self-Made Orphan.
Jonah: (Evil Laugh) Now ain’t that just the funniest shit I’ve ever done seen!
  • Evil Is Burning Hot: Luz narrowly avoids a column of fire, caused by a giant circle above her created by Millie.
  • Evil Laugh: Jonah gives a big, long one when he believes his plan to kill Luz worked.
  • Evil Smells Bad: The abomination sludge Millie summons doesn't exactly smell nice to Luz.
  • Facial Horror: The left-side of Luz's face gets torn off after getting knocked off the by Millie. Once again she recovers thanks to her Healing Factor.
  • Finishing Stomp: Luz uses her Super-Strength to kill Jonah Smith this way.
  • Flash Step: Hunter saves Millie from Luz with this.
  • Flying Broomstick: Millie meets Luz again on this. It has a bullfrog Palisman.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: All For One gives a non-violent one to Luz when she believes she just been tricked into accidently killing her own mother with her Deadly Force Field and they're still in a fight to the death that's far from over. Not that he could slap her even if he wanted to.
Shigaraki: Calm yourself. Focus… You can grieve later. Channel that anger and despair you are feeling, and use it against your enemies. Push past this, and bring your wrath down on your foes!
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Luz has these when she resolves her to kill Jonah.
  • Good Is Not Soft: With Millie finally at her mercy, Luz interrogates the little witch on where the Wittebanes are. Her foe spitefully tells her he left Gravesfield before the battle even started and she won't be able to find them. Not liking her answer, she fully intends to cripple her enemy from the waist down, instead of outright killing her. Millie is only saved from becoming a paraplegic but Hunter's timely rescue.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: Luz slips into Spanish at one point.
  • Green Thumb: Millie can summon Fantastic Flora from her home realm like giant vines the size of tree trunks, great mushrooms to cushion her fall and Venus flytraps like she does in her fight with Luz.
  • Grin of Audacity: Despite being at Luz's mercy when interrogating her, Millie smirks telling the superhuman that the Wittebanes aren't even in Connecticut anymore, never mind Gravesfield.
  • Having a Blast: The "Bomb Touch" Quirk originally belonged to Riley Stewardson, Luz's cousin and an assassin for The Wittebane Mega Church. The Quirk allows Luz to blow up anyone or anything from the inside out, so long as she feels a deep hatred for them, and so long as she comes into physical contact with them. Otherwise, it is completely useless.
  • Hellish Copter: Luz fires a massive Deadly Force Field at Millie the witch, only to dodge it as it hits one of the news helicopters, knocking it out of the sky and into several buildings below, causing a massive explosion, killing even more innocents. Nice Job Breaking It, Hero.
  • The Hermit: Luz at one point ponders if she could live in a cabin in the woods after all this. To seclude herself away from society and never show her face ever again to have some semblance of peace after killing the Wittebanes.
  • Heroic BSoD:
    • Invoked by Jonah to try and give him an opening to kill the All For One user.
    • With all the immediate assassins now dead by her hands, Luz finds herself not wanting to fight anymore. She may never get physically exhausted anymore that's to one of her Quirks but can still get mentally and emotionally exhausted.
  • Holy Hitman: Charlie appears to be this, wearing a white robe with a cross around her neck.
  • Human Shield: Jonah uses Camila's dead body as one against Luz's attack.
  • Hypocrite: Luz really doesn't want to become this.
  • Instant Expert: It doesn't take long for Luz to understand how Limitless works after just getting it. All she had to do was will the energy to her palm and fire it off.
  • Intangibility: Jonah only lasted as long as he did against Luz due to this via Smog. It also allows him to break out of Luz's "Zero Gravity".
  • It's Personal: Luz sees being manipulated into believing she killed her mother by the assassins as this.
  • Karmic Death: After Luz steals her Quirk, she blows her up into Ludicrous Gibs like many of her victims.
  • Kick the Dog: If killing Camila wasn't bad enough, Jonah uses her corpse for his fellow assassin to teleport in the way of Luz's exploding Deadly Force Field, making the girl believe she just killed her own mother, in order to demoralise her! For Jonah, kicking dogs comes as naturally as breathing.
  • Lip Losses: Millie's lips are split open by Luz's punch.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Exploited by Jonah. The hitman tricks Luz (who has no idea Camila is Dead All Along) into believing she killed her own mother with her Forcefield Cannon when Charlie teleports her corpse in the attack, blowing her up.
  • Ludicrous Gibs:
    • This is what happens to Camila's corpse when Charlie teleports it in the way of Luz's exploding Deadly Force Field before it hits Jonah.
    • Riley becomes after Luz uses her own Quirk against her. Unlike Luz, her cousin would never come back.
  • Macross Missile Massacre: On Jonah's orders, Charlie fires a hail of heavy-duty, military-grade gunfire, along with 3 flamethrowers, several grenade launchers, and multiple rocket launchers onto Luz. Not even that puts the All For One user down. It just pisses her off.
  • Maker of Monsters: Millie's capable of creating up to 10 large Abominations, purple humanoid Blob Monsters that mindlessly follow the commands of their summoner.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Charlie has Charlie teleport Camila's corpse into one of Luz's attacks, making her believe she killed her, so that she'd fall into a Heroic BSoD be vulnerable for a killing blow. It would've worked had All For One not talk her to her senses.
  • Mistaken Identity: Millie believes that Luz and Shigaraki are the same All For One, despite one being a teenaged girl and the other being a full-grown man.
  • The Mole: According to Shigaraki, he was able to convince the Golden Guard to become this to him in the emperor's coven and could be a future potential ally for Luz and is about to test her mettle.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Using his Super Smoke Quirk, Jonah is able to mimic Luz's Multiplier for Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs on the girl.
  • My God, What Have I Done?:
    • Luz has this expression when she believed she killed her own mother.
    • While taking a breather, Luz has this reaction when she takes in the damage her various fights with the Wittebane assassins caused. Not only does she have the blood of her enemies on her hands but also indirectly a lot of innocent civilians, too.
Luz looked down at the road below, where all the carnage had taken place. It looked like a warzone. The blood, the fires, the destruction, and the bodies that lined the floor. She only realized now that the fighting had killed more than just Sophia, her mother, Jonah and Charlie. There were more than over a dozen bodies, and it made Luz’s stomach knot.
  • Nasal Trauma: Luz punches Millie in the face so hard she breaks her nose and bleeds a lot.
  • Never Hurt an Innocent: Luz is now fine with killing her enemies when forced to do so. But the blood of the innocent spilled by her unintentionally or otherwise? Not so much.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Luz's destructive battles result in the deaths of dozens of people caught in the crossfire. She doesn't take it well.
  • Ninja Log: Jonah uses the corpse of Luz's mother as this with gory results.
  • No Body Left Behind: Luz uses her Limitless Quirk to reduce Charlie's body to dust.
  • No-Sell:
    • Thanks to her Shock Absorption, Luz is able to effortless tank Jonah's punches before she kills him.
    • Luz tries to use her "Spear Fingers" on the Millie's abominations but since they have no organs or vital areas to speak of they ignore the attack and continue to approach her. Luz lampshades she should've known that wouldn't have worked in the first place.
  • Nonconformist Dyed Hair: Charlie has red streak through her hair and shaved sides.
  • Obligatory Earpiece Touch: Jonah does this when he calls Charlie to teleport Camila's body in front of Luz's attack. He also does when he's about to call Tyler.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Jonah becomes very afraid when Luz survives all his attempts to break and murder her, kills his partner while stealing his Quirk. He collapses onto the ground in fear as she No Sells all his attacks before killing him.
    • Millie has this reaction when Luz plans to cripple her from waist down and can't escape.
  • Outside-Context Problem: After Jonah tricks Luz into believing she just killed her own mother with her Forcefield Cannon when Charlie teleports her corpse in the attack, she about to go into a Heroic BSoD which was All According to Plan for the monster to set her up a killing blow. What the assassins didn't count on, was the Spirit Advisor living in the girl's head to bring her out of it with a pep-talk invoking The Power of Hate and to Pay Evil unto Evil which gives her a Heroic Second Wind.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Gravesfield now looks like warzone thanks to Luz's battles.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Despite being just under 5 ft. tall, Millie is still part of the emperor's elite witches can is able hold her own against Luz in their one-on-one fight, doing serious damage to her.
  • The Power of Hate:
    • Shigaraki encourages Luz to use this, who laments that hate and revenge are all she has left now that her mother is dead.
This anger… This despair… this hatred she felt. She would never let it go.
    • Keep in mind, that Riley's Quirk is fuelled by this. In Riley's, last moments knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that her own little cousin hates enough to kill her with her own power.
  • Pragmatic Hero: Luz is shaping up to be this.
  • Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: Hunter gives one to Luz before they fight.
Hunter: Very well. Let’s make this quick, shall we? (Activates Quirks) I am the Golden Guard of Emperor Belos. And you, All For One, will not be leaving this place.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: Luz delivers an epic one to Jonah (below is translated into from Spanish to English) before the monster meets his end with Luz's Finishing Stomp on his head before he has chance to avoid it, crushing his skull. She avenged her mother's demise just like Camila believed she would.
Luz: You can run away. You can hide. You can call the authorities all you want. But nothing less than God himself will stop me from finding you and making you pay for your crimes. And in this godless world, that God is me.
  • Psychotic Smirk: Jonah has this when belives Luz is finally dead. Luz quickly wipes it off his face when she reveals she's Not Quite Dead before erasing his entire head off his body.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Luz's eyes become permanently red in this chapter.
  • Rejected Apology: When her cousin Riley tries to apologise for trying to kill her and explain why she did, Luz is having none it. She blames Riley for the carnage that transpire today, steals her Quirk and proceeds to kill her with it in short order.
Luz: Shut up. This is your fault… all of this. Everything that happened today… It was all on you. So do me a favour, and 'die.''
  • Scratch Damage: At this point, Jonah can't achieve anything more than this against his target.
  • Shock and Awe: Millie can also fire lightning bolts.
  • Spontaneous Weapon Creation: It appears Hunter's Quirk allows him to summon a golden sword made out of photon particles.
  • Squishy Wizard: Or in this case Squishy Witch. Being part of the Emperor's Coven means Millie has access to all forms of magic for her kind, making her one of Luz's toughest opponents yet. However, her physical strength and durability is the same as a human being's, being the size of a 10-year means she can't do much damage with her bare hands. All it takes is one strong punch from Luz to defeat her.
  • Strong and Skilled: Not only does the Golden Guard possess 4 powerful Quirks but he also has had a decade of training with them, too. Have fun, Luz.
  • Summon Magic: Millie can use Abomination magic in the form of a tidal wave, which knocks Luz off a building and into the street below.
  • Teleportation with Drawbacks:: Luz steals the "Warping" Quirk from Charlie. While useful it has drawbacks as all Quirks do. Warping can only bring people and items to and away from the user, and in the case of the latter, only to people the user knows. The slime produced while using it is noted to stink like hell. However, the user doesn't need to know anyone's exact location to use it.
  • Tempting Fate: As the dust settled when after firing a hail of heavy-duty, military-grade firearms onto Luz, Jonah believes she done for and gloats that she wasn't so tough. He's about to tell Tyler the mission is complete... until he hears a choking sound to his right and sees his partner in crime having her heart torn out and crushed by a burnt but still alive and regenerating Luz Noceda.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Perhaps trying to apologise to a murderous Luz within power-stealing range after trying murderer just under an hour ago wasn't a good idea, Riley.
  • Villain Has a Point: As Luz is about to go into a Heroic BSoD after being tricked into believing she just accidently killed her own mother with her attack, All For One tells her she has to grieve later, as they're still in a fight to the death that's far from over. At this point, she had all but accepted that her Evil Mentor was right more often than he was wrong.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Millie has this when she witnesses Luz kill Riley.
  • Wham Episode: Where to begin?
    • Luz is tricked into thinking she killed her own mother by accident by Jonah.
    • She not long after steals Riley's Quirk and kills her with it.
    • And finally the Golden Guard arrives to take on Luz. According to Shigaraki, he has not one, not two but four powerful Quirks in his arsenal and suffers no ill-effects from having that many Quirks in him. Oh and Luz, you can't steal his Quirks by your Power Parasite ability thanks to your Evil Mentor. And he probably has had a decade of training with his Quirks over you, too.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Luz has this reaction when Hunter saves Millie from her at the last second as that means she has to fight another assassin sent to kill her.
Luz: I swear to God… If that’s another assassin, I’m going to lose my mind!
  • Winged Humanoid: Hunter Quirk can sprout a pair of bright golden wings made out of light from his back.
  • You Said You Would Let Them Go: When Luz is about to stab Millie in the spine after interrogating her, the witch reminds the girl she'd spare her after she told her everything. Luz counters that she just told them where the Wittebanes weren't not were they are, and that she's just going to try to kill her again later under orders, Luz has to make sure that she can never pursue her again. Millie is only saved by the timely arrival of the Golden Guard.
