Just For Fun / Super Weight

So, your character's Power Level is off the scale. That's just swell! Too bad it doesn't actually mean anything. Therefore, the contributors of the wiki have created a "scale" to measure a character's power. The Super Weight scale doesn't quantify power by Random Power Ranking using arbitrary numbers, but rather categorizes characters into nine broad categories based on what a given character can do.

It's not uncommon to see characters all over this scale in a setting, nor is it unheard of for characters to change Weight Class during the course of a story, whether up or down. Characters that have won the Superpower Lottery will usually end up on the higher levels of this scale.

When editing lists, remember that the weight classes measure the scope of a character's abilities — what the character is literally capable (and incapable) of with their raw power alone. While people like Batman and The Doctor have been known to take on gods, they do so with intellect and tactics rather than raw power, and thus remain low on the list relative to their defeated opponents. Thus, defeating somebody does NOT necessarily place a character at or above the opposing weight class, although the greater the disparity between the subjects, the more the defeat qualifies as an example of Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?.

Likewise, as these are broad categories, remember that it's entirely possible for one character to clearly be stronger than another character within the same weight class. Simply being within the same tier in no way implies being identical or even especially close in power, just that they're closer to each other in power than to characters in higher or lower tiers. This is generally more likely to happen with higher-tier characters, but by no means is that always the case.

Also note that this is not a place to be Gushing About Characters You Like; when adding examples, make realistic assessments of their weight class according to the scale.

Weight Class	Description	Example Traits and Abilities
Muggle Tier
Fragile Weight	Can't do things muggles take for granted. More Some have next to no combat ability and may even die if left alone for too long. These characters may rely extensively on luck, outside help or constant vigilance (assuming they aren't a burden in the first place). Note that merely being The Load or dying often doesn't put you in this weight, nor does being annoyingly dependent. This weight is for characters that are physically (or mentally) undeveloped/handicapped and cannot do what the average adult human can do. Iron Weight	Made of Iron Badass Normals. More  Characters who can push the upper limits of what a human is capable of. They may have gotten Training from Hell, or are experts at martial arts, Good Old Fisticuffs, Gun Kata, Le Parkour, Improbable Weapon Usage and the like, or is part of the Red Shirt Army. Basically, this is a character anyone could become, bar the setting. However, note that characters don't need to be humans to be put here. This weight is also for any natural wildlife that could take down an unarmed human single-handedly.	Badass Normal, Action Hero, Non-Powered Costumed Hero, Real-Life Super Powers, Bears Are Bad News
Super Tier
Extranormal Weight	Superhuman traits, but otherwise comparable to normal humans.More  Their abilities are generally very specific and limited and may be useless in some situations, rendering the characters just as helpless as normal un-powered humans. Usually, characters of this type lack the Required Secondary Powers to optimize or protect themselves from their own powers. Perhaps their only powers are to cancel other powers. Most of the time, their ability is something we can mimic or even surpass using common science or low-grade cybernetics. Muggles and Irons that are Beast Men or Cyborgs may also end up here. Super Weight	Characters with powers or Functional Magic.More  Their powers, even if they are limited, may be used in a variety of ways, and tend to have Required Secondary Powers. Most of your run-of-the-mill Super Heroes, Shounen characters, and Mages will likely start here, possibly being pushed higher as they continue their adventures. Hyper Weight	Persons of Mass Destruction.More  These characters typically can cause, stop, or reverse large scale disasters. Some can also break the laws of or flat out warp physics with their powers. A protagonist of this weight (or higher) risks becoming a God-Mode Sue, because their abilities tend to be story-breaking, making it difficult to give them a plausible challenge. That said, a protagonist at this weight can have engaging adventures, the author just has to be careful to scale the Sliding Scale of Villain Threat accordingly. Cosmic Tier
World Weight	World-class power. More These characters can affect a world or dimension (such as Earth or others comparable to it in size) either positively or negatively, or may even be a manifestation of a planet, with all that implies. Reality Warpers powerful enough to create or alter such worlds also go here. Many villains end up here, especially if they're trying to Take Over the World or are Omnicidal Maniacs, though you will find their opposite in the Messianic Archetype. Cosmic Weight	Characters with cosmic-scale powers, ranging from multi-planetary to multiversal. More Characters that are this powerful aren't so much characters as forces of nature, wielding power beyond observable human science. As a kind of Cosmic Entity, they may be a Reality Warper with Reset Button abilities, an Anthropomorphic Personification on a cosmic scale, a Celestial Body, or a Sentient Cosmic Force. These characters often go about their business in the universe, unaffected by traditional conflicts, for better or worse. Author Weight	The Author or Capital-G God. More Characters in this weight class are absolutely Omnipotent and likely Omniscient. They are capable of exerting their will on all of reality, including the entire universe, the complete totality of the multiverse, the basic foundational elements of the setting, and/or even the plot itself without exception. Destiny/Fate is their play-thing. They cannot be killed/destroyed by any means. Any limits they have are self-imposed. While this weight is almost always reserved for God, the Author, and the Game Master, characters can be written for at this level. Just don't expect it to be a normal story. In reality, most corpses have either been preserved improperly or been allowed to thaw, so they are really Deader than Dead., present-day AI, cetaceans, great apes. Humans could become this as well if certain Unfriendly AI come into existence.

  • Extranormal Weight: Bio-augmented humans, humans alive once Mind Uploading or reversal of cryonics is possible^note as they would have Resurrective Immortality, Friendly AI (at a minimum).
  • Super Weight: Post-Singularity humans, Eliezer Yudkowsky according to the Yudkowsky Facts^note on average. Some of them have him doing things that violate fundamental laws of physics or mathematics, placing him as high as Author Weight. And of course, the facts exist solely as a joke., the AI in a box, the nonsapient machines of any aliens that could contact humanity.
  • Hyper Weight: Unfriendly AI (at a minimum)
  • World Weight: Extraterrestrial civilizations, evolution itself^note Yudkowsky describes it as an "ignorant god" in one of his essays, Roko's Basilisk.
  • Cosmic Weight: Omega^note exists solely in thought experiments, so is limited only by the laws of physics.
