Please can you help me with this?

  • Animal Motifs: Lampshaded many times by Anna’s mother Mary: Anna and her cat Friday are similar and therefore have a deep connection to each other. Both are “domesticated” characters but have have sharp claws if it necessary.

  • Bad Dreams: Anna has two kinds of bad dreams: how her father died from cancer and and her fights with rapists.

  • Berserk Button: Don’t try to rape a woman when Anna is nearby. Don’t try to harm Friday nor take his food.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Anna has the heart of a fighter and she can successfully beat up two strong male rapists to save a girl. Friday is a domesticated cat but he is capable to fighting back against not only small wild cats but bigger enemies too.

  • Cat Stereotype: Heroic Tabby variation: Friday is brave and loyal, aloof and superior. His wild look also helps him in the wilderness.

  • Cats Have Nine Lives: Friday is capable of surviving serious wounds but is also a lucky cat.

  • Cats Hate Water: Averted. Friday doesn’t hesitate to swim if he needs to.

  • Cats Are Mean: Averted. Friday killed many animals during his journey but he is a carnivore and cannot eat tofu.

  • Cats Are Snarkers: Friday is sarcastic about humans and the other animals.

  • Cats Are Superior: Friday doesn’t think any humans are worth as much as him except his owner Anna.

  • Cat Up a Tree: This is where Friday hides if a dangerous animal is nearby.

  • Determinator: Anna doesn’t let the illness take her and she recovers at the end of the book. Friday survives the wilderness and all of his wounds to finally come back to Anna.

  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Anna’s process of being cured was hard but in the end she gets her normal life back and a man who loves her and her cat comes back to her. Friday struggles a lot during his journey and and is finally reunited with Anna.

  • Everything Tryingto Kill You: Africa is a dangerous place, not only for a lost domesticated cat, but for other animals too.

  • Good Parents: Anna’s parents Mary and Robert are loving and caring people toward to their daughter and Mary won’t left Anna to die alone.

  • Happily Ever After: Anna and Friday are together at the end of the book with people who love them both.

  • Happily Married: Anna’s parents were this before her father died.

  • Ill Girl: Played straight with Anna. She is sweet and she is seriously ill.

  • Lighter and Softer: Instead of showing us social problems like "A Deadly Presence" did, we get a lyrical book about a woman who has to deal with pain and loss.

  • Nice Guy: The book has a lot of well written examples of these kind of characters. Anna and her doctor James Windon are nice and friendly people to everyone and they always help you even if you aren’t their friend. Anna’s family also counts.

  • No One Could Survive That!: Everyone except Anna thinks Friday is dead but he comes back.

  • Stoic Woobie: Anna’s life is hard but she doesn’t complain and continues her fight for her health.

  • Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: Anna is brave enough to save the girl from it.

  • The Ace: Anna is considered to be the one of the best students of Cape Town University and her boss told everyone she is a “treasure”. Friday is the Ace in art of survival.

  • The Power of Love:James falls in love with Anna and helps her to become a healthy woman. Friday’s love for Anna helps him to survive all of the wounds he gets from wild animals.

  • The Woobie: You can feel extremely sorry for Anna. In the beginning of the book, she has to deal with the death of her father and grandfather, and harsh memories about her fight for her life with two rapists. As a result of all of these stresses, she gets a potentially fatal disease. Her doctor James Windon decides that she needs to relax and visit herfamily farm, where Anna’s favorite dog Ben dies. And when she goes for a walk she loses her beloved cat Friday in the wilderness.

  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: The main hero Anna is described as a tall and beautiful woman with black hair and white skin.

  • Undying Loyalty: Anna’s cat Friday loves her so much that he is ready to constantly risk his life in the wilderness and cross thousand miles on foot to be with her.

I've just read the Characters page in Akira (yeah, I love troping the characters, mainly because they're easier) and I've found some Zero-Contest examples so, to practice more, I'm gonna fill them, and add a couple more.

For Kaneda

For Tetsuo

  • Clipped-Wing Angel: His fetus-thing transformation is terribly strong, but he doesn't have any control of it so in this form he attacks at random, making him less dangerous (Unless you have psychic powers too, in that case, good luck running from a huge mass of flesh).
  • Painful Transformation: Having all your body turned into a fleshy mess must not be nice. He's not the trope picture for nothing. <— And, strangely, nobody has added this trope yet
  • Required Secondary Powers: The reason he suffers a terrible Superpower Meltdown, is because he averts this. Due to not having a body able to contain his enormous power, Tetsuo's body mutates trying to assimilate everything around.
Shrinking Violet: Tetsuo was very introverted as a child. Completely averted as a teenager, especially after obtaining his mental powers.

For Kaori:

For Lady Miyako

  • Team Mom: She takes care of Kaneda and especially Kei, for the latter she even becomes a mentor, and helps them with their rebellion against Tetsuo.

I'm going to add a new entry for Supermarioglitchy4's Super Mario 64 Bloopers on the Funny section:

  • Mariobusters
    • Is Bob the most annoying creature in the world? Confirmed. Bob makes someone's head explode just by introducing himself.
    • Are the koopa kids actually Bowser's children? Confirmed. The doctor announces that Bowser is truly the koopa kids' father, which causes Bowser to explode in rage.

Corrected version

For Kaneda

For Tetsuo

  • Clipped-Wing Angel: His fetus-thing transformation is terribly strong, but he doesn't have any control of it so in this form he attacks at random, making him less dangerous (Unless you have psychic powers too. In that case, good luck running from a huge mass of flesh). Also, this mutation slowly and painfully kills him.
  • Painful Transformation: Having all your body turned into a fleshy mess must not be nice. <— don't worry, the "it's not the trope picture etch" is not present (since this is a trope I "added"), but there are a lot of examples who says that x is the trope picture.
  • Required Secondary Powers: The reason he suffers a terrible Superpower Meltdown is because he averts this.

  • Team Mom: She takes care of Kaneda and especially Kei. For the latter she even becomes a mentor, and helps them with their rebellion against Tetsuo.

I just got done watching this interview of the original voices of Young Bambi and Thumper from Disney's Bambi. I think this video should be added to the meta/other example on the Heartwarming Bambi page since it has to two discussing about the 75th Anniversary of the film.

Here's the interview from Walt Disney Animation Studios

Okay I have a few aditions for Maigret

  • Consummate Professional: As always Maigret, his method to solving crimes is to simply carefully go through every single detail, and see which parts fit together and which parts don’t. His dedication has put strain upon his marriage, but it still serves him well in the end.

  • Evil Former Friend: Inspector Grandjean, the main antagonist of “Maigret at the Crossroads” is an old friend of Maigret’s, having gone to the academy together. Maigret is naturally horrified to discover this.

  • The Gunslinger: While the entire Paris police force does carry firearms when necessary, Inspector Javier fits this archetype the closest, demonstrating his skills when he manages to beat an armed assassin, despite the man having already drawn his gun in “Maigret’s Dead Man”.

  • Killer Cop: Inspector Grandjean, turns out to be responsible for the murder of a Jewish goldsmith in “Maigret at the Crossroads”

  • The Mentally Disturbed: Marcel Moncin, it becomes clear that underneath a seemingly friendly exterior he is a seriously damaged man, this is what leads to him killing six different women.

  • Psychopathic Manchild: Marcel Moncin from “Maigret Sets A Trap,” having been treated like a child his entire life, and failed at everything he ever tried to accomplish, in the end he went mad. During his break down in the climax all he can do is rant over and over again that he hates his mother and his wife, like a six year old.

  • Serial Killer: One is terrorising Paris in “Maigret Sets a Trap”, he turns out to be Marcel Moncin.

  • The Sociopath: Dacourt, the ring leader of the gang of thieves and main antagonist of “Maigret’s Dead Man”, Maigret outright states that he can steal, murder and torture countless innocent people simply cause he sees them as “things” to be used for his own benefit, not people.

  • The Stoic: Maigret, even when he’s greatly angry or distressed he will not raise his voice or display his hand. It goes with his professionalism.

  • Tragic Villain: Marcel Moncin from “Maigret sets A Trap”, while a dangerous serial killer responsible for the murder of six women, he’s been completely dominated his entire life by either his mother or his wife, both of which still treat him like a child, all his attempts to expand himself have failed and as Maigret outright states in the end he’s nothing more than a failure and he knows it.
  • Tranquil Fury: Due to his stoicism Maigret never shouts or truly displays how angry he is, however when he’s confronting a bunch of especially vicious thieves and murders in “” he’s still clearly utter furious.

Thank you. I also have these for Great News.

  • Aesop Amnesia: Parodied. After coming to realise how wrong he was to dismiss and act condescending towards Portia’s ideas, and giving a speech about how he’ll never do it again, not five minutes goes by in “Celebrity Hacking Scandal” before Chuck is back to acting like himself and dismissing her ideas again.

  • Ambiguously Bi: Portia. She has had numerous relationships with men, sometimes at the same time, yet in “Snowmageddon of the Century” she’s clearly enjoying watching Beth dance without her shirt on, even pouring money over her as she does.

  • Ambiguously Gay: Beth. It’s revealed in “Snowmageddon of the Century” it only takes a few drinks before she starts getting handsy with her female co-workers.

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: In “Chuck Pierce Is Blind” Greg out of everyone is the most overjoyed that Chuck will miss one day, as it means he won’t have to put up with his demands. Only for it to turn out without Chuck he no longer has an excuse to stop the cast including all their weird and outright stupid ideas into the program, despite knowing that doing so will ruin their credibility.

  • Big Ego, Hidden Depths: Chuck to a tee. On the surface he’s arrogant, egotistic, demanding and selfish, but underneath he struggles a variety of issues. Such as his constant fear of losing his job to someone younger, concern with just how out of touch with the modern generation he is, and unescapable worry that even after everything he’s done over his career it’s not been enough, that he’s not good enough and is going to be forgotten.

  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Beth Virek, the weird Weather lady. She believes the apocalypse is coming by earth quakes in 2018, things that the weather is alive or at least conscious enough that it can have a relationship with her, and admits to having grown up in a home for “strange children”.

  • Cool Old Lady: Carol to tee. She’s got a massive online social following, throws a great party for the staff in “Snowmageddom of the Century”, is very popular with everyone who works on show, and often goes gambling with her friends.

  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: Mildred Marlock, Greg’s Grandmother, international business woman and the owner of the network. It is her who is being the data mining scandal, all so she can acquire the knowledge for her own use.

  • Dirty Coward: When Chuck agrees to go back as a field reporter on South Sudan, Greg asks for previous footage of him at the first Gulf War to use for promos. The footage reveals that he spent the whole time freaking out and cowering. Gets slightly deconstructed as Chuck points out how it’s incredibly easy to mock a person for being afraid when you yourself are in the comfort and safety of your own home but it’s a different story when you actually have to face the danger, but it’s clear despite this he really is a coward.

  • Engineered Public Confession: How Katie manages to catch Mildred Marlock in her data mining scam.

  • Evil Brit: Greg’s Grandmother, Mildred Marlock however plays this very straight.

  • Henpecked Husband: Carol has this relationship with Dave, Katie’s father. She regularly ignores him, forgets about him and honestly doesn’t really seem to acknowledge him much. Played for laughs as this seems to stem more from her being scatter-brained than her being controlling.

  • Genius Ditz: Portia. Most of the time she barely seems to understand what is going on, however she can also make incredibly insightful observations, such as pointing out the importance of a genuine focus on the investigative procedures and facts of journalism, over gimmicks and such, even in the modern age of technology and social media, only for her to immediately then start talking about something random.

  • Guile Hero: Greg in “Bear Attack”. When the networks orders that Chuck and Portia engage in some friendly banter to boast ratings proves impossible as the two have absolutely nothing in common. He manages to pull it off by having them believe their talking about something completely different at the same time, for example he has them talk about how much they love lemonade, with Chuck believing its Lemonade the beverage and Portia believing its Lemonade the Beyoncé Album.

  • Might as Well Not Be in Prison at All: Played for Laughs. Field reporter Kevin gets arrested at the beginning of “Serial Arsonist” for being a serial arsonist and leading a redhead supremacist group, despite this Greg notes that he’s somehow still mobilising the Red head Army from prison, and the episode ends with one of his followers taking the vacant job as field reporter, for some part of his plan.

  • Missing Mom: Beth apparently hasn’t seen her mother in over twenty years and admits in one episode she was raised in a home for “strange children”.

  • Rich Bitch: Mildred Marlock. She’s snobbish, egotistic, stuck up, condescending, classist and as it turns out outright corrupt.

  • Only Sane Man. Greg. He’ll normally be the one to point out the absurdity and stupidity of the others, or the events that are going on around them. Katie is close, but she has to many of her issues to truly count.

  • Only Sane Employee. Greg. It’s his job to contain the insanity of the cast and ensure that a proper news report is produced every single day.

  • Technologically Blind Elders: Whilst Chuck is more middle aged than old, he is utterly useless with modern technology and social media, not to mention openly despising it. Partially because it makes him feel old, partially out of his belief it distracts people from the simplicity of life. Carol however averts this, as she possesses a larger online social media following than her daughter.

  • Womanchild: Katie. While normally quite sensible and calm, it’s made clear on several occasions that due to Carol’s helicopter parenting, she isn’t as well adjusted as a grown woman should be. At times she can be immature, bratty and naïve. Despite being in her thirties, she still sincerely believed that her pet dog left to join the Hollywood animal actors, right up until Carol told her the truth, and believes that having no insurance whatsoever was somehow better than being on her parents insurance.

For Onepunchman.... just writing...

For Gokuetsu:

For Suiryuu:

  • Anti-Villain: Despite his Social Darwinist beliefs and a little arrogance, he is not a bad guy and just serves as a Hero Antagonist to Saitama until Gouketsu's arrival.
    • He only turns down becoming a monster because it would make him ugly looking, not because of any morals or anything silly like that
  • Character Development: After a big humiliation and seeing Lightning Max, Sneck and Saitama's resolve, he changes his ideas about the heroes and decides to dedicate his life helping the others. He also becomes a lot more humble, going from a Smug Super to asking to Saitama to becomes his diciple.
  • Heel–Face Turn: While he was more of an Anti-Villain, he ultimately decides to become a hero.
  • Comes Great Responsibility: Inverted. He thinks, since he's insanely strong, that he just has to relax and do anything he wants. Even when the other competitors turn into monsters, he faces them only in exchange for a date with a girl. Plays this straight after his Character Development.

  • Anti-Villain: Despite his Social Darwinist beliefs and a little arrogance, he is not a bad guy and just serves as a Hero Antagonist to Saitama until Gouketsu's arrival.
    • He only turns down becoming a monster because it would make him ugly looking, not because of morality or anything silly like that.

This violates Example Indentation.

  • Anti-Villain
    • Despite his Social Darwinist beliefs and a little arrogance, he is not a bad guy and just serves as a Hero Antagonist to Saitama until Gouketsu's arrival.
    • He only turns down becoming a monster because it would make him ugly looking, not because of morality or anything silly like that.

  • dedicate his life helping -> dedicate his life to helping
  • to asking to Saitama to becomes his diciple. -> to asking Saitama to become his disciple.

Thank you and correction:

For Gokuetsu:

For Suiryuu:

  • Anti-Villain:
    • Despite his Social Darwinist beliefs and a little arrogance, he is not a bad guy and just serves as a Hero Antagonist to Saitama until Gouketsu's arrival.
    • He only turns down becoming a monster because it would make him ugly looking, not because of any morality or anything silly like that <— This one is actually copied and pasted from the original page because I wanted to add "Ultimately subverted after his Character Development" until I've decided to just add the Heel–Face Turn down here forgetting to remove this one. However, I have to remember to check the writing when I copy-paste..

  • Character Development: After a big humiliation and seeing Lightning Max, Sneck and Saitama's resolve, he changes his ideas about the heroes and decides to dedicate his life to helping the others. He also becomes a lot more humble, going from a Smug Super to asking to Saitama to become his disciple.
This is played straight after his Character Development.

For Dash Kappei

  • Archnemesis Grandpa: Kappei's grandfather, a terrible Drill Sergeant Nasty. His training was so dangerous for the young Kappei that his parents are forced to send the kid in the city and lie to his grandpa saying that Kappei was dead. When he discover the truth goes in the city and start to train an opposing basketball team. He finally give up when Kappei defeat him and his team.

  • Last-Minute Hookup: In the final arc happen to every male characters of the Seirin team (aside from Kappei's sidekick) included Kyoshiro that start a Teacher/Student Romance with Miss Kaori. Even the dog Seiichiro finally give up his feeling for Akane and fall in love with a cat.

  • Spoiled Brat: The School President's son. He is identical to Kappei (the only differences is that he like pink panties and is not an Ace) and very spoiled. The School President force also the basketball team to include him in a match. The reason is because he is a Ill Boy. Not that Kappei care, obviously.

Can some for my behalf edit this: Link here

  • How about this, what about Harry? Why doesn't Harry detected the Thestrals. He can see them in the lord. But not in games. Look it don't matter in the long run.
    • The original Fridge Brilliance entry just said three things:
  1. In Harry Potter lore, Thestrals only become visible to someone who witnessed a death.
  2. In Lego Dimensions, only characters with Relic Detectors can make the Thestrals become visible.
  3. At the time of the Harry Potter Team Pack's release, the only characters with Relic Detectors happened to witness the same death.
Like the game itself, it doesn't explicitly state that characters' memories play a role in making the Thestrals appear. Plus, The LEGO Movie already showed that Wyldstyle could detect Relics even before the tragedy in question occurred. I already stated in the original Headscratchers entry that I knew Chase could use his Relic Detector to complete the Quest, in any case, and take offense at any indication you made that I didn't figure that out myself.

Like why did the person kept my bad spelling error and then pointed it out? When the person could had oh I don't know, fixed the spelling error it into the right spelling, Instead adding a useless point with the other good point. I mean come on. I wanted to fit this myself. But I can't.

Okay, I've unfortunately got another very long one. For Blindspot, Blindspot and Blindspot respectively.

  • A Lighter Shade of Gray: The FBI are doing their best to save as many people as possible, and put an end to the corruption. But due to how deep it goes, they do have to sometimes look the other way or resort to dirty tactics to get things done. Many times they are forced to play the game just so they can keep going, and except lesser victories. Nevertheless they are good people, who do everything they are capable of to prevent injustice and save as many lives as possible. While Sandstorm, despite being an extremist group, want to expose all the corruption and abuse of power that is going on, and are fighting tooth and nail to bring it all down. However there solutions often involve massive amounts of bloodshed, the groups philosophy is very much the ends justify the means making them incredibly callous towards causing civilian causalities, are willing to murder innocent people for simply not getting with the program, and there members are mostly borderline fanatics who unquestionably follow a cold, ruthless, manipulative Leader. Especially as their final plan would have led to the entire Eastern sea board being made radioactive killing untold millions, and the country being thrown into martial law for who knows how long.

  • Your Terrorists Are Our Freedom Fighters: The conflict between the FBI and Sandstorm. To the law and the heroes Sandstorm are bunch of fanatical Western Terrorists who are happy to murder countless civilians in the pursuit of their goals. To Sandstorm their a bunch of heroic patriots who are fighting tooth and nail to put an end to the corruption in politics and business that has invested America, with the majority of the members being former special forces agents who suffered first hand at it. While Sandstorm certain do have a point about the corruption, the sheer extremism of their actions and the fact their overall plan would have irradiated the entire Eastern Sea board, does put a few holes in their claims.

  • Moral Event Horizon: Shepherd initially comes across as a Well-Intentioned Extremist, a caring mother and possessing a solid Freudian Excuse. However it all goes out the window in “Why Let Cooler Pasture Deform” when she’s outright gleeful while blowing up the compound killing a dozen FBI agents, all the while making Jane watch. If that’s not enough, moments later she tries to force Roman to execute his sister as a display of loyalty.

For Kurt

  • Action Politician: Despite his promotion to deputy director should mean his job involves more politics than field work; Kurt still personally leads his team in their investigation and refuses to let them do anything he wouldn’t do himself.
  • Badass in Charge: Takes over as the Assistant director of the FBI in Season Two, doesn’t stop him going into the field and personally taking on threats though.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: In Season Two, following his promotion to assistant director, Kurt starts dressing smarter and wearing a suit more often.
  • Incorruptible Pure Pureness: Shepherd outright states in “Lepers Repel” that Kurt is incorruptible, nothing can sway him from doing his duty to his country and its people. It is down to this that she tries to have him take over as part of the emergency new government.
  • A Father to His Men: Kurt is first and foremost very protective of his team, leads by example and will always put their safety above his own life. Following his promotion this spreads to all the FBI officers underneath his command.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Following his promotion to Assistant director, Kurt is absolutely focused on taking down Sandstorm, yet he never ignores everyone else’s opinions on the matters and always aims for the best solution. He goes out to keep Roman safe as he expects he’s both useful and not the dangerous terrorist he was anymore.

For Jane

  • Amnesiac Dissonance: Jane is a sweet, kind hearted woman who hates to see anyone suffer. Remi, while well intentioned, was a manipulative murderous terrorist, who was plotting to bring down the government.
  • Big Sister Instinct: She’s been protecting her little brother Roman, ever since they were in the orphanage together. Following rediscovering his existence after her mind wipe, Jane quickly latches back on. Following wiping his memories she keeps going out of her way to keep her brother safe.

For Patterson

  • Break the Cutie: The series is not kind to her, following her boyfriend death, Border turning out to be a mole, her being tortured and violated, Sandstorm using her to spy on the team etc. By the end of the series she openly admits that she no longer enjoys her job, and just can’t take the stress anymore, causing her to wonder if she should do something else.
  • Workaholic: Not even recovering from being betrayed and tortured is enough to get her to stop working. Originally this stemmed from her loving her job, however as her opinion towards it sours, it becomes a coping mechanisms for her, as she has nothing else in her life but it.

For Borden

  • Anti-Villain: A terrorist and a traitor, Borden’s motivation is he lost his wife to an illegal bombing on a civilian village, and honestly believes Shepherd’s plan will bring the end to the corruption she promises. He is likewise clearly uncomfortable with Shepherd’s more brutal tactics, such as murder and torture.
  • Character Death: Dies in “Evil Did I Dwell, Lewd I Did Live” blowing himself up, rather than letting himself be taken in by the FBI.
  • Freudian Excuse: Borden used to be an international volunteer medical doctor with his wife, they found Remi following the attempt to assassinate her and put an end to Orion. This led to his wife and the villagers he had been treating being killing in an illegal bombing attempt to kill Remi. This combined with Remi’s influence convinced him that Shepherd was right and the corruption had to be stopped.

For Reade

  • Break the Badass: His arc in Season Two, discovering that Coach Jones molested him as a child, sends him on a spiralling path, with him developing PTSD and turning to drugs, alcohol and meaningless sex to try and cope with the trauma. This ends up costing him his job, damaging his relationship with his friends, and leads to him being beaten up in a street. It takes him befriending a dying soldier who understands what PTSD can do to your life, to set him back on the right path, then numerous therapy sessions and the office being attacked by terrorists to restore him to his form.

For Naz

  • Action Girl: Despite being part of an agency that doesn't typically involve field work, Nas shows herself to be handy with a sniper rifle. She is also capable of handling herself in a fist or fire fight.
  • Anti-Hero: Naz is very much on the side of what is right, however being a member of the NSA, her methods are more ruthless and immoral than the others. She’s perfectly willing to illegally gather intelligence, or even kill people when it wasn’t absolutely necessary, just as long as she can aim it for the greater good.
  • Back for the Finale: Reappears in the season finale to help Keaton, with his advanced interrogation of Shepherd.
  • Put on a Bus: To save the team from Weitz corruption investigation, Naz agrees to take the fall for everything in “Senile Lines”, causing the joint NSA-FBI taskforce to be ended and herself to leave service pending investigation.

For Roman

  • Ax-Crazy: Due to experiences and training, he is an incredibly violent man, with murder as his go to solution when faced with a problem.
  • I Am a Monster: Following having his memories wiped, as he begins to remember all the people’s killed and his natural talent for it, Roman develops a deep self-loathing out of guilt and horror at what he has done. Despite Jane and Kurt assuring him he’s not that person anymore, and that the events are probably more complicated than he thinks
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: In “Why Let Cooler Pasture Deform” Jane outright injects him with the same drug that they used on her, so that he can have the same second chance that she had. It seems to work for a while, only for it to wear off in “In Words, Drown I”.
  • Made of Iron: Following a massive car crash, he gets up and enters a fist fight with his sister, then even after being stabbed in the leg and beaten; he still gets back up and casually escapes.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: Learning that Jane lied to him “In Words, Drown I” and was the one who erased his memory, sends him back on the path to being a terrorist, ending with him re-joining Shepherd.
  • One-Man Army: Just like Jane, Roman can destroy lesser operatives in a fight. He casually takes down large groups of opponents. So far, only his sister and mother have managed to beat him in a fair fight.
  • Tragic Villain: Lost his parents as a child, was raised as part of a child soldier program where he was abused by the guards and beaten up by the other children, rescued then raised by the bitter and manipulative Shepard. He’s likewise clearly horrifically emotionally conflicted and damaged by his life, despite loving his sister and his mother.

For Shepherd

  • Abusive Parents: Sure she seemed to love her children (in her own way), but her child rearing methods often involve emotional manipulation and shaming them into doing what she wants.
  • The Chessmaster: It is Shepherd who organises all of Sandstorms plans, virtually everything that happens throughout the first season does so exactly as she planned.
  • Freudian Excuse: Because a corporation was dumping toxic waste into the lake near where she grew up she lost her entire family to a horrible slow death, as well as having to have her ovaries removed to save her. Said corporation manged to get away with it. It was this that started her campaign to destroy the corruption.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Shepherd often comes across as a warm maternal figure, and genuine believer that she’s doing what’s right. However when things go wrong, this slips revealing a cold, calculating and mercilessly bitter woman beneath.
  • Genius Bruiser: Shepherd is a strategic mastermind and a calculating manipulator, who’s responsible for the entire sandstorm plots. She is also a good enough fighter to take on both of her children in a one on one fight.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: Cade outright lampshades the fact that in her pursuit of putting an end to the corruption, Shepherd has become just as ruthless, selfish and callous as the people she’s supposed to be fighting against.
  • Knight Templar: Shepherd’s entire goal is to expose and put an end to deep corruption and abuse of power. However despite her goals being genuine, there is no depth she won’t stoop to accomplish this and she is incredibly callous with the amount of bloodshed she causes in her methods. Jane outright states that while Shepherd’s goals seem noble she truly doesn’t care who she hurts in perusing them.
  • Manipulative Bastard: A large part of Shepherd’s plans rely upon manipulation, and Weller outright calls her “a master manipulator.” She is an absolute expert upon playing on people’s emotions and fears to them to do what she wants, she for example expertly plays upon a Thai police officers father issues so that he’ll come close enough to her that she can break his neck in “Regard a Mere Mad Rager”.
  • Not So Different: Tries to pull this upon Kurt, arguing they will both happily sacrifice themselves for their causes, both want to put an end to the corruption and both want what’s best for their country. As Shepherd is also perfectly willing to sacrifice countless others to, Kurt doesn’t by it.
  • The Unfettered: Shepherd will do anything to bring down the corruption, be it murder completely innocent bystanders to cause a diversion, risk her own children’s lives or irradiate the entire eastern sea board of America to accomplish it.
  • Villain Respect:
    • While antagonist, Shepherd deeply respects Kurt, admiring his skill, dedication and genuine integrity. It is for this reason that she plans to implement him to help take over as the new government to take over the new America, believing he will build a better country.
    • She also admits that Pellington is a truly brave man, right before she murders him.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Shepherd’s goal is to put to expose and put an end to the deep corruption in America. And she’ll happily commit murder, torture and terrorism to pull it off.
  • Wicked Cultured: A dangerous terrorist who uses the “Ab Urbe Condita” as cipher for her organisation to deliver messages.

For Cade

  • Freudian Excuse: His father was a miner, who died with several others in an accident. Due to the company’s lawyers, they got away without paying his family a penny of compensation. This led to Cade agreeing to be part of Shepherd’s army in her crusade to put an end to government and business corruption that was until he came to accept that Shepherd was herself worse.
  • Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: When we first meet Cade he comes across as a dangerous psycho who wants to kill Jane for seemingly no good reason. As it turns out Cade is really a lot more nuanced person, whose desire to kill Jane stemmed from wanting to put an end to Shepherd’s plans, having come to realise she was worse than the corruption she was against.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: Abandons America in "Evil Did I Dwell, Lewd I Did Live" to get away from whatever Shepherd is planning.

For Tom Pellington

Played By: Dylan Baker

The Director of the FBI’s New York branch.

  • Action Politician: Pellington’s job is mostly politics and organisation, however when Shepard attacks the FBI headquarters he personally leads the attack, even carrying on after it’s clear they are outgunned and caught in an ambush.
  • Da Chief: Is the team’s overall boss, first Mayfair’s and then Kurt’s.
  • Defiant to the End: Even after being shot and disarmed, he still refuses to give Shepherd his code until the very end.
  • Jerkass: While well intentioned, Pellington is not one for sparing feelings and can be quite blunt in his opinions.
  • Obstructive Bureaucrat: Overall Pellington is sceptical and suppositious towards Kurt’s attempts to put an end to Sandstorm. Normally it takes Kurt bargaining and reasoning with him to stop him shutting down them down every time they hit a road block.

For Jake Keaton

Played By: Chad Donella

The CIA’s new Deputy Director, following Tom Carter’s death.

  • Action Politician: Despite his position being more political, Keaton happily leads his team into the field and often is personally involved in their operations.
  • Anti-Hero: Keaton is a ruthless man, happily to outright violate the law and civil liberties, as well as use kidnapping and torture to obtain information. However unlike his predecessor he is not corrupt, and only does so out of a genuine belief it’s for the best for his country.
  • Good Parents: Ruthless and immoral as he is, Keaton does love his daughter Erin. He is perfectly happy to die to ensure she keeps living.
  • Nothing Personal: His opinion over torturing Jane, he has nothing against her as a person, but she was considered a terrorist and he was assigned to gage her for information, so he had illegally imprisoned and tortured. Following her getting back to working with FBI he has no problem working with her. Jane obviously doesn’t agree.
  • Shadow Archetype: To Weller, they’re both dedicated and talented operatives, who normally personally lead their teams and are motivated by a desire to protect their countries interests. Keaton represents what Kurt might become if he ever let his moral standards slip, and engaged in illegal lengths to protect his country.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Keaton will happily torture you for information if you’re a terrorist, organise an illegal extraction from another country and negotiate with one of the world’s most dangerous terrorists, but he does all of it to protect his country.

For Allison Knight

Played By: Trieste Kelly Dunn

A US Martial, as well as Weller’s former girlfriend and old flame.

  • Action Girl: Being a US Martial, Ally can easily hold her own in a fist or fire fight.
  • Amicable Exes: Her and Kurt, their so amicable that they end up hooking up again in during the second half of season one. Even after breaking up for good they still remain friends. They stay friendly after Ally discovers that she is pregnant with Kurt’s child.
  • Put on a Bus: Leaves New York to peruse a job in Colorado in “Droll Autumn, Unmutual Lord”
  • Distaff Counterpart: As Rich outright lampshades in “One Begets Technique”, she is basically Kurt if he was a woman. Rich argues this means they can’t date each other as they are simply to similar.
  • Pregnant Badass: Even after getting pregnant, despite Kurt’s concerns, she still insists on doing her job and manages to kill several mob hitmen in “Condone Untidiest Thefts”.
  • The Stoic: Like Kurt, Ally is normally straight faced, rarely giving away her emotions.

For Boston Arliss Crab

Played By: Josh Dean A particularly skilled art forger, and Rich Dotcom’s on again-off again associate/boyfriend.

  • Badass Gay: Despite being only a forger and a somewhat timid man, Randal manages to keep up with a hired goon who tries to kill him.
  • Camp Gay: Boston is an openly homosexual man, he’s also prissy, stylish, fashion conscious and emotional.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Whenever they are forced to work together, he has this dynamic with Patterson. Upon their first meeting she had to be restrained to prevent her from assaulting him. Things do start to get better between them after “Borrow Or Rob” though.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Admits to Patterson in “Borrow Or Rob” that back in college he just wanted to get his art out there for people to see, he more or less became a criminal only through association with Rich.

For Mathew Weitz

Played By: Aaron Abrams

An immoral Assistant US Attorney, who is looking to boast his own career by taking down members of the team.

  • Amoral Attorney: While not outright corrupt, Weitz has his blinders stuck entirely upon the team, and will rush in half a second to persecute them at the slightest chance.
  • Ambition Is Evil: Weitz main goal is simply to boast his own resume and increase his chances of promotion by taking down high officials in the government. If that means he has to cause an outright witch hunt to do so, he’s more than happy to.
  • Jerkass: Even aside from his ruthless pursuit of the team, and unwillingness to look at events in context, Weitz is also a smug and demanding person, who quickly gains everyone’s distain.
  • Know When to Fold Them: Despite his ruthless pursuit of the team, Weitz does know when to cut his losses. Such as him excepting Naz’s deal in “Senile Lines”
  • Hero Antagonist: Subverted. Whilst technically doing his job and investigating government agents for negligence or corruption, Weitz operates on a guilty to proven innocent philosophy and happily manipulates and misinterprets statements to get people into a corner.
  • Smug Snake: Arrogant as he is, Weitz never realises that Sandstorm played him like a fiddle.

Find something very interesting. Plan to note them in Literature, Cthulhu Mythos YMMV page, and possibly Ultra Series.

  • In a 1931 Cthulhu Mythos short story The Lair of the Star Spawn by August Derleth and Mark Schorer, the characters manage to stop Great Old Ones Lloigor and Zhar with aid of the the Star Warriors from Orion, descripted as monstrous-size glowing beings that "shot great beams of annihilation and death".
In 1966, Tsuburaya Productions created Ultra Series, a toku series about heroic aliens also known as giant of light with many abilities including shooting powerful beam from their arms. And by sheer coincidence, their homeworld is locate in nebula M78 in the Orion Constellation.
