Heroes

    Sunset Shimmer

Sunset Shimmer Equestria/Nightmare Inferno/Solaris

  • DePower: Her Element of Magic (corrupted into the Element of Domination) was shattered when she was defeated as Nightmare Inferno because of how much she'd twisted it, which ultimately humbled her. As least in a potential future. It regenerates in the Element of TRUST during the potential showdown with the Dazzlings.
  • The Dreaded: Became this in the end, which is part of why Twilight and Shining ended up being treated as they were for their power.
  • Fallen Hero: Originally one of Celestia's students who fell due to greed, pride, and ambition. And she rose again.
  • Fatal Flaw: Her Greed, Pride, and Ambition. She gets better after her potential defeat.
  • Fearless Fool: Her tendency for extreme bravery eventually lead her to become arrogant and unwilling to listen to caution, and was one of the main contributions to her Face–Heel Turn.
  • Fearless Infant: Despite her young age, she never showed fear, even when facing down the Shadow Queen's wraiths or even when she saw Queen Tiamat herself.
  • Godhood Seeker: Her ambition is to become an Alicorn, as in canon this went way too far for Celestia's comfort and resulted in her becoming Nightmare Inferno. She ironically only becomes a deity after she's lost this trait.
  • "Groundhog Day" Loop: The events of Make Your Own Magic – The Starswirl Do-Over also happened in the POV series canon. Deconstructed as the duration of the whole incident combined with the notion that she was going to be stuck like this for eternity unless it is solved (which is one of the actual Downer Endings achieved if you choose to smash the Twirler) messed up her psyche, requiring her to go back to Equestria for therapy.
  • Happily Adopted: While there was a time she was too angry and prideful to admit it, she's very happy being Celestia's adopted daughter.
  • Heel–Face Turn: As in Canon.
  • Humble Pie: Was humbled in a potential future by her becoming Nightmare Inferno and then being defeated by the Power of Friendship, which, due to how much she'd twisted her Element of Magic, it shattered instead of her becoming an Alicorn like other Nightmares.
  • Physical Goddess: In the potential future where she fights Midnight Sparkle/Nightmare Midnight, she becomes a deity.
  • Irony:
    • In one potential future where she fights Midnight Sparkle, Sunset is revealed to have become a goddess post-Heel–Face Turn. The irony is not lost on her.
    • She points out that due to being Celestia's adopted daughter, she already was a princess in a title sense (being the daughter of the leading royal), but was too prideful to think of herself as such without the wings and Earth Pony strength.
  • Power Copying: As an Element of Magic, she can do this with spells. According to Word of God, her versions are stronger than the original, but are also mana guzzlers and much less efficient than the originals.
  • Rousseau Was Right: The mare who would become Nightmare Inferno was once a little filly who raised the sun itself and never showed fear to anything, and who genuinely loved and was loved in turn by Celestia. In the end though, her own bravery turned against her and made her prideful in the idea that nothing was beyond her ability, and thus she fell from grace. And in a potential future battle against the Dazzlings, she rises again.
  • Sailor Earth: Played With. Her shattered Element of Magic regenerates into the Element of Trust, though it was stated that the Element of Trust once existed before Discord destroyed it and the Princesses merged its power with the rest of the Elements. Played straight outside the fic though.
  • So Proud of You: Celestia loved her as a daughter, and never once did she stop believing in her. Even after Sunset left through the mirror, Celestia always referred to her as 'Equestria's Second Sun' and never once stopped waiting for her to come home. She even cried Tears of Joy when she learned that Sunset and Twilight joined forces to stop the Dazzlings, happy her little sun had found herself again. When they actually meet again, Celestia says as much to her face, as well as the fact she's become an Alicorn.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Her Demon form is given a proper name: Nightmare Inferno.
  • Taking the Bullet: As in canon, she takes a total memory wipe of her time in the human world to protect her friends, which is ultimately what gets them on her side to defeat Wallflower.
  • Truly Single Parent: Implied. Given that her original parents in Equestria are nowhere to be found and she just happens to have the power to raise the sun like Celestia, Luna suspects that Sunset Shimmer could have been secretly created by Celestia from the same spell Queen Majesty used to create foals for her subjects who wanted them but were single. Celestia herself denies this however.
  • Un-person: Informally, this apparently happened in Equestria. While Celestia didn't strike her from the record, her actions caused many to try and pretend she never existed.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Subverted. In a work that would explore the implications if she tried to enter Equestria in the Dark World timeline, her plans would be hijacked by the Dazzlings as they sensed the massive negativity coming from the portal.
  • You Could Have Used Your Powers for Good!: Celestia admitted that had things been different, it would have been Sunset, not Twilight, who would have defeated Nightmare Moon and perhaps someday ascend and become the concept of Magic itself. Subverted during the potential showdown with the Dazzlings, in which she does use those powers for good.

    Trixie

Trixie

  • Attention Whore: As one would expect. She gets somewhat better.
  • Freudian Excuse: The exact same one as her Equestrian self in terms of having Middle Child Syndrome.
  • Man of Kryptonite: Her 'Amulet' form is capable of breaking through the Blank Wolf's invulnerability and harming it, as it's a divine force native to the EG verse, and thus something the Blank Wolf is vulnerable to.
  • Not Me This Time: Sunset assumes she's the one using the Memory Stone, but as in canon she's not.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Played With. She can access the power of the human world equal of the Alicorn Amulet, but has much more control and direction than her Equestrian self. Word of God describes it as being more akin to Hallow!Ichigo: dangerous and devious, but also a natural part of Trixie's magic and has a vested interest in both Trixie's well being and survival. She uses it to protect Princess Twilight from the Blank Wolf and is able to fight it to a stand still due to being a divine force native to the EG universe. It also willingly returns her to normal, aware that pitting her against the Humane Seven plus Twilight wouldn't end well.

Antagonists

    The Dazzlings/Sirens

  • Abusive Precursors: They're from the Tales era, and attempt to take over the world in modern day.
  • Adaptational Badass: They were a major threat in show canon, but even more so here: at their strongest, Celestia and Luna feared they could exceed Discord's level of power and the trio are effectively immortal. They're also one of two villains (the other being Tirek himself) that is implied to have given Nightmare Eclipse serious trouble and even made her panic. The latter was shown in full in Pony POV Series Dark World Gaiden: Sirens vs Nightmares, in where the trio replaced Eclipse and her gallery of Nightmares as the Big Bad after beating them.
  • A God Am I: Adagio proclaims herself a goddess after she survives an attack by Luna.
  • Badass Boast: Adagio gives one when she first meets Melody. Note, she gave this before she even became a Siren.
Adagio: I am Adagio Dazzle of Seasville, spawn of Achelous and Aglaope! Lead Singer of the Dazzlings, owner of the most beautiful voice in all of Aquastria! Who the tailfin do you think you are?"
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: To a degree, and nothing that involves their actual plans. As Sea Ponies, they have a very different concept of family from the other Pony Tribes, considering their entire school their family and having no concept of having only one mate.
  • Big Bad: Of the second part of their Origin chapter and the potential future chapter "In Sunset We Trust".
  • Complete Immortality: After getting their pendents (artificial Elements of Chaos), they prove to have this. Even being burned to ashes doesn't do more than annoy Adagio, and she regenerates moments later. Given how the Elements of Chaos work in Dark World, it's quite possible that's why.
  • Control Freak: Adagio has a similar philosophy to Chrysalis, that you have to have power in order to keep the world from taking away what you have.
  • Evil Former Friend: Adagio used to be G2 Melody's Friendly Rival, until the apocalypse happened and the Dazzlings mutated into the Sirens.
  • Evil Knockoff: They tried to get the real Alicorn Amulet (which was forged from the Elements of Chaos) to counter the Elements of Harmony, but it violently rejected them. As a result, they made artificial versions of them out of pieces of their own souls with the help of some mages they brought under their souls.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Sonata tries to use the Alicorn Amulet, but it fries her brain, turning her into The Ditz she is today, she used to be The Smart Guy.
  • Evil Makes You Monstrous: When Celestia and Luna use the Elements against them, it traps the in their siren form permanently because they abused their beauty, and now their forms match their inner nature.
  • Fighting Spirit: Just like in show canon. When back to their magical prime and beyond, they can form avatars of their Siren form.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Before the G2 apocalypse, they were just a group of seapony rock stars. Then they were mutated into powerful Sirens, ultimately get Evil Knockoff versions of the Elements of Chaos, and absorb several thousand years worth of negative energy while imprisoned, leading to them becoming such a massive threat to Equestria that the only option to defeat them was to banish them to another dimension.
  • Hate Plague: Once more, as in canon.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Their own power is what keeps the Windigo ice around them frozen.
  • Last of His Kind: Twofold. They're the last of both the sea ponies and the Flutterponies, due to having used an interracial transformation spell (as sea ponies needed a way to move on land) after Discord's genocides.
  • Magic Music: As in canon.
  • Mutants: They were just three normal sea ponies until the G2 Apocalypse happened, at which point they were mutated by Discord into the sirens they are in canon.
  • Physical Goddess: At their strongest, they were easily able to go toe-to-toe with Luna and Celestia.
  • Power at a Price: Putting a piece of their souls in their amulets gave them even greater power, but they'd lose all their power if their gems are broken.
  • The Power of Hate: As in canon, they feed off this. Though here it's portrayed more as a Horror Hunger, as they need it to survive.
  • Psycho Rangers: To the Princesses during their time, as they're using Evil Knockoff versions of the Elements of Chaos, but also, as Sonata put it, are a false version of what the Princesses stand for: whereas the Princesses view their power and admiration as a means to inspire their subjects, the Sirens are only out for themselves and want to be adored for the sake of being adored. Their knock off Elements are also shown, when powered by the negativity they've absorbed, to be on par with the Elements of Harmony.
  • Rapid Aging: Sunset Shimmer theorizes after their pendents are destroyed in a potential/alternate future, this will happen to them.
  • Redemption Rejection: Adagio was once offered a chance for a cure for the Dazzlings' Horror Hunger by Celestia, but she and her compatriots refused.
  • The Rival: Were this to the Rockin' Beats during G2. Adagio even feels cheated Melody lost her voice and they can never truly find out who is best.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Are frozen in ice by the Windigos, their own power feeding their prison and keeping them sealed for thousands of years, and they only avoided an And I Must Scream fate because they could talk to each other and view the outside world. Unfortunately, it allows them to keep feeding while trapped, allowing them to feed off of Discord's reign and the entire Three Tribes Era.
  • Soul Jar: Their amulets contain pieces of their souls. Unlike many examples, they were smart enough to make them incredibly hard to destroy. The only known thing that can destroy them is the Elements of Harmony when all seven Elements are present (including the Element of Trust), which happened in a potential future.
  • The Starscream: Sonata once tries to take over the group using the Alicorn Amulet, but it fried her brain and reduced her to The Ditz.
  • Start of Darkness: Being mutated into monsters by the G2 Apocalypse and losing two of their sisters is what started them down this, but the tipping point is when they and the other Rockin' Beats (the only friends they seemed to have) were brutalized by a lynch mob, resulting in a Traumatic Superpower Awakening.
  • Tactical Rock–Paper–Scissors: Pony POV Series Dark World Gaiden: Sirens vs Nightmares shows that their powers as a whole are this to Nightmares in general. Their ability to be fuelled by negative emotions, which is essentially what Nightmares primarily use in combat combined with the bleak setting allowed the trio reach cosmic levels of power. In their fight against Nightmare Eclipse and her gallery of Nightmares, the fight was gradually becoming nothing more than a Hopeless Boss Fight for the latter group as the conflict dragged on. Eventually, their negativity made them stronger and stronger until they can break into other dimensions and No-Sell time magic.
  • This Cannot Be!: Their reaction to Sunset becoming the Element of Trust in a potential future, resulting in them being blasted by the full Rainbow of Light powered up by friendship.
  • Time Abyss: Were members of the G2 civilization before it fell and have been alive sense then.
  • Tragic Villain: While they aren't exactly sympathetic in and of themselves, their origins are very tragic. They're a trio of sea pony rock stars that were mutated into sirens by the G2 Apocalypse, losing everything they had, including two of their sisters who died in the explosion, and being ostracized by society either for their monstrous appearance or support of the wish spell. Their turn to villainy completes and their powers awaken when they and their only remaining friends are attacked and brutalized by a lynch mob.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: They first realized their Magic Music powers when they and the rest of the Rockin' Beats were attacked and brutalized by a lynch mob, which is also what sent them over the edge.
  • Villain Song: Naturally, they get several. Though "I Am A Siren" is more a "I Am Becoming" Song.
  • You Could Have Used Your Powers for Good!: While described as probably hypothetical, the Authors Notes have Havoc give them a speech like this when they arrive in Tartarus, telling them that they very well could have used their powers to lessen the amount of suffering in the world rather than increase it and ultimately would have still been adored and survived for the right reasons had they done so. It also turns out that their Mirror Universe selves did just that and are still revered as saints to this day.

    Gaea Everfree

Gaea Everfree/Gloriosa Daisy

  • Ax-Crazy: Is rather insane and viscous due to being a Nightmare, who are insane by default.
  • Dark Action Girl: As in canon, she's extremely powerful and dangerous. Enough to beat Nightmare Diamond without suffering any real damage.
  • Green Thumb: Can manipulate plant life.
  • Light Is Not Good: Her source of power is the feral, human world version of the Elements of Harmony. All seven.
  • Man of Kryptonite: Is this to beings of Disharmony, since her powers are from all seven Elements of Harmony.
  • Revenge Before Reason: She utterly loathes Filthy Rich to the point of trying very hard to kill Nightmare Diamond just for being his daughter. This is despite the obvious differences between this Diamond and hers, and that Diamond never once canonically caused problems for her.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Gloriosa Daisy turned into her as a result of her stress and pain building up and her use of all seven of the feral Elements of Harmony.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Tries to kill Nightmare Diamond, despite her being a child, despite it being clear she was way out of Diamond's league thanks to wielding all seven of the human world's feral Elements of Harmony and thus Diamond not posing any threat to her. This is because of her hatred of Filthy Rich.

    Wallflower Blush

  • Adaptational Badass: She manages to put up a lot more of a fight in the final confrontation than she did in canon.
  • Angel Unaware: Is actually one of Entropy's Yokai intended to ultimately repair the distortions caused by the constant mixing with Equestrian stuff. She's unaware of this.
  • Big Bad: Of the Forgotten Friendships adaptation, alongside the human world Blank Wolf.
  • Freudian Excuse: Parental Neglect played a very big part in making her who she ultimately ended up being, and being constantly ignored by everyone regardless of what she did.
  • Heel–Face Turn: As in canon she's redeemed in the end.
  • Heel Realization: Starting with seeing how Sunset and company react to Sunset's memory of CH being wiped out, then continuing when defeated and realizing in the end she was nothing but selfish.
  • His Own Worst Enemy: Sunset theorizes that part of Wallflower's problem was she'd given up on being noticed and the Memory Stone only served to enable that issue further. This is shown with her ignoring Featherweight, who decidedly did notice her but she never noticed him.
  • Irony: It turns out Human!Featherweight not only notices her, but has a Precocious Crush on her and has been trying to get her attention for awhile. Unfortunately, she's been ignoring him completely. She realizes the irony after finding out about it.
  • Kick the Dog: Slipping into this too much is a large reason she fails in her task, which the Blank Wolf calls her out on.
  • Parental Neglect: The 'everyone ignores her' thing included her parents. Which is a major reason she's as messed up as she is.
  • The Power of the Void: Her Memory Stone is revealed to be a scale of Entropy herself, explaining its ability to truly wipe memories rather than simply bury them which is normally what brainwashing does. It turns out she's actually one of Entropy's Yokai.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Some of her actions genuinely are driven by a desire to help others by erasing bad memories. It's implied this was also the case with the sorceress who possessed the Stone originally. It's magnified when the human world Blank Wolf recruits her for its own needs. She fully admits she was ultimately selfish and using any excuse to hurt Sunset.
  • Wrong Context Magic: Her Memory Stone's ability to truly erase memories breaks pre-established rules of magic of the series only be able to bury memories, not outright or genuinely erase them. This is because it's a scale of Entropy herself, who is beyond the rules. She's better able to use it than most due to being Entropy's Yokai.

    The Blank Wolf (EG)

  • Alternate Self: To the Equestrian Blank Wolf.
  • Our Angels Are Different: Presumably like its Equestrian self.
  • Hero Antagonist: It's not evil, it's the Guardian Entity of the timeline, but the influx of things from Equestria is causing trouble for its universe, so it's opposing Twilight and Sunset. It even outright admits that Wallflower's vendetta has nothing to do with what it needs from her. The magic leaking freely into the human world is damaging it, and if something's not done it could end badly, all its actions are an attempt to stop it.
  • Implacable Man: Has the same abilities as the Equestrian one, but it can't actively pursue Sunset and Twilight on its own due to their divine status and thus needs Wallflower's help to go after them. It takes Trixie using a power identical to the Alicorn Amulet to actually fight it evenly, which is a divine force in and of itself.
  • Ret-Gone: Is capable of doing this like its Equestrian self, but the Memory Stone trumps it in erasing memories (due to being a piece of Entropy) and Twilight and Sunset are goddesses, so it needs Wallflower's help.
  • Our Werebeasts Are Different: Being the human world Blank Wolf, it resembles a Werewolf.

Past Characters

    Majesty

    Spike

  • Noble Wolf: Is a wolf in this universe, and Majesty's close companion.
  • Sole Survivor: His entire pack were wiped out by what is implied to be the human world Smaug. Majesty killed the savage wolf and turned him into a pelt, deepening her bond with the little wolf.

    Wind Whistler

  • Super-Intelligence: Is noted by the gods as being the smartest person on the planet for the time period.
  • The Stoic: As with her pony counterpart.

    Magic Star

    Firefly

    Lord Tirek

  • Big Bad: Of the prehistory story.
  • Dragged Off to Hell: After his demise, he's tried and found even by the era he's in to be a monster, and as such is swallowed up by Havoc and condemned to Hell.
  • Evil Overlord: Perhaps the In-Universe Trope Maker, as the battle between him and Majesty is one of the oldest legends in the entire world.
  • Immortality Inducer: The human world Rainbow of Darkness, released into the world by Morning Star, which he keeps in his crown, renders him immortal. Majesty manages to remove it just before stabs him through the heart.
  • Oh, Crap!: When he realizes that Majesty removed his Immortality Inducer and just stabbed him through the heart.
  • Outside-Context Problem: He's the only one on the planet with real magic at the time of his existence.
  • Sorcerous Overlord: Was a ruthless conqueror, but also the only one on the planet with magic at the time.
