  • Hidden Agenda Villain: Once he learns that two mortals killed the Coachman, he sends Meteora/Miss Heinous to the Boiling Isles to murder them when the time is right.
  • Token Evil Teammate: He's got a lot of power that makes him too dangerous to be left unchecked hence his position in the Order. Due to his acting out of turn and nobody liking him, the other members keep him on a very short leash.
  • The Unfought: While he is fought and defeated, none of the main heroes even meet him.
  • Unseen No More: After being only mentioned in Book 1, he appears in Book 2.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He isn't ashamed of himself for sending Meteora to kill Luz and Amity.

The Third Race

    Puck Goodfellow

This character is a Walking Spoiler. Therefore, all spoilers will be unmarked here. You Have Been Warned.

Puck Goodfellow

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lc_puck_goodfellow.png

A fae who was banished from his homeworld, Avalon, in the past. While passing through the Boiling Isles, he took an interest in Luz's life and became one of her friends. He ultimately perished at Emperor Belos' hands in the Book 1 finale only for it to turn out that said death was only temporary: Puck's body was reconstituted in the Forest of Fear and he fell under the Inner Demon's control, becoming his unwitting ally.

  • Amnesiac Hero: When Amity and Luz first meet him, Puck is unable to recollect most of his past. Even after remembering that he's Peter Pan, he is unable to remember his life before Neverland until much later. His abuse at the hands of his step-father is revealed to have contributed to these memory issues.
  • Arc Villain: Thanks to the Inner Demon's Demonic Possession, Puck acts as this on the Boiling Isles side of the "Human Realm" Arc.
  • Apology Gift: As a way to make up sending her friends to Earth and tormenting everyone as the Shapeshifter, Puck gives Luz the portal key, which the Inner Demon had him recover from the Forest of Fear so she can complete her portal door.
  • Bully Hunter: Puck often messed with anyone who messed with his friends; however, he messes with whoever he sees as jerks before they can even cause trouble, which leads to them getting severely hurt.
  • But Now I Must Go: After all the trouble he's caused in the Boiling Isles both before and after the Inner Demon's possession, Puck resolves to leave the Demon Realm permanently in Chapter 83: "How to Save a Life".
  • Canon Character All Along: Near the end of Book 1, Puck reveals to Amity that he's the one and only Peter Pan, and his adventures in Neverland were real, too.
  • Character Death: He's Killed Off for Real in "The Rescue" by Emperor Belos as he sees the Fae as a threat to the Boiling Isles. Being a Fae, he bounces back from it only to fall under the Inner Demon's command.
  • Composite Character: He is eventually revealed to not just be Peter Pan, but the Indian boy from A Midsummer Night's Dream as well.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Puck kept an iron dagger on him in case Anu Bist ever came after him. His hunch pays off when Anu Bist tries to bring him in to Oberon.
  • Demonic Possession: As "Chapter 83: How to Save a Life" shows, he's been under the control of the Inner Demon since his resurrection and forced to act on his orders.
  • The Dragon: As the "Shapeshifter", he becomes the Inner Demon's new ally after he abandons Dolly Tempus and carries out his plans in the physical world.
  • The Empath: He can calm down a rampaging Slitherbeast just by listening to its emotions.
  • Foil: To Mel/Melonie. Both are Fae who've never grown up, cause trouble everywhere they go, and didn't take responsibility for their actions. However, Puck has gone through a lot of Character Development and accepted his role in several things (mainly how his actions affected his friends), while Mel thrives on making things worse for shits and giggles. This is especially displayed for Amity, who Puck feels guilty for over making her life more difficult while Mel enjoys it.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Throughout Book 1, there are several hints that Puck is Peter Pan.
      • His shadow is alive and able to separate itself from him, just like Peter Pan.
      • He starts calling Amity "Pixie Dust", because she subconsciously reminds him of Tinker Bell.
      • In "Exams to Survive" he remembers once being able to fly, which is revealed to be true when he remembers that he was capable of it.
      • Just like Peter Pan, Puck tends to use a knife as his main weapon.
      • In "Maternal Aspirations" his attention is drawn to one of the books Amity got from the human realm, namely her copy of Peter Pan.
    • The hints that he was the Shapeshifter are as follows: he made the Slitherbeast cave (a location he knew of) his base, he used Fae dust to turn Dolly into a doll, and he stranded Amity, Willow and Gus on Earth instead of killing them because they're Luz's closest friends, so he knows how much they mean to her.
  • Forgotten Fallen Friend: Averted. Luz and Amity refuse to forget Puck following his death, using their friendship with him as a reminder to not carry grudges against the rest of their friends. Amity even decides to take his last name as her own after becoming nameless.
  • The Ghost: He's frequently mentioned or alluded to in Book 2, his friends seeing him in a positive light while everyone else views him as a menace.
  • Happily Adopted: He was this by Titania before Oberon kidnapped him.
  • I Have Many Names: Puck was once known as "The Boy Who Never Grew Up".
    • His birth name is Kumar.
  • Karmic Trickster: He acts as this whenever he goes after people who mess with his friends, but comes off as a Bully Hunter as a result.
  • Killed Off for Real: He dies fighting Belos while trying to help Amity save Luz and her family at the end of Book 1.
  • Living Shadow: He had one until be banished it for keeping him in the dark about his past. Baron Samedi later used it to bring Camila back to life and while the Inner Demon forces Puck to reclaim her, she separates from him once he's free of his possession.
  • The Nicknamer: He also has this habit, although he only gives them to his friends.
  • Odd Friendship: He befriends Hooty of all characters. To a lesser extent, he also gets along with Luz (rebel, troublemaker and fellow Bully Hunter) and Amity (self-conscious rich girl with lots of trauma under her belt).
  • Older Than They Look: With the revelation that he is the Indian boy from A Midsummer Night's Dream, Puck may have born as far back as the 12th century BC despite the fact that he looks no older than a teenager in the present day. All of the abuse he suffered at the hands of Oberon and his time in Neverland stunted his growth.
  • Psycho Knife Nut: Averted. He wields an iron dagger out of self-defense. It really fits since Peter Pan also wielded a dagger as his main weapon. Played straight while he was under the Inner Demon's control.
  • Race Lift: "The Girl Who Never Grew Up" reveals that Puck was originally a human born to an Indian woman, which means that Peter Pan is actually Indian.
  • Real After All: He eventually reveals to Amity that he's Peter Pan and his exploits in Neverland were real, too.
  • Redemption Equals Death: He ended up losing his life just to save Luz and her family: she forgives him at the funeral she holds for him, but his revival subverts it hard.
  • Reduced to Dust: After Belos stabs him in the heart, his body turns into dust. It's subverted when he reforms a little while later.
  • Sacrificial Lion: Belos kills him in the Book 1 finale to show that the Emperor of the Boiling Isles is not to be taken lightly. Again, it's subverted since he can't die.
  • Spanner in the Works: Puck's actions have ultimately led to as much good as they've caused harm.
    • His messing with Boscha, while resulting in Luz and Amity's breakup, Luz and Eda's capture and near-petrification, and Amity becoming half-Fae, resulted Boscha's Heel–Face Turn, Amity denouncing her forced dream of joining the Emperor's Coven, and giving Amity the chance to prove her love for Luz.
    • Sending Amity, Willow, Gus, and Eve to the Human Realm was the best possible thing he could've done and giving Luz the portal key topped it off. Luz was able to reunite with her friends and the Pines family plus meeting her godfamily, the former Gatesfieldians were able to leave Gatesfield, and the Clawthornes and their allies would come to discover the threat Department A poses to their realm rather than being left in the dark about them.
  • Transplant: To reiterate, he's the real Peter Pan.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom:
    • While possessed, by stranding Eve, he ended up creating the Grim Goblin.
    • As Boscha notes in "Resolutions", every bad thing that's happened to Luz, Amity, and her can be traced back to Puck messing with her before the petrification ceremony. That's why she refuses to forgive him for his actions.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Being possessed by the Inner Demon led to him becoming this, as the Demon used his body to appear in the physical world.
  • Walking Spoiler: He's the Fae who turns out to be the Shapeshifter; thus, he's the one who stranded Amity, Gus, Willow and Eve in the Human Realm.

    Anu Bist/Jack

Anu Bist/Jack the Genie

The former teacher of the Detention track. Half jackal, half genie, all Trickster Demon, he's a distant grandson of Anubis who encouraged his students' mixed-magic abilities and takes an interest in Luz and her capabilities.
  • Benevolent Genie: Along with being the son of a djinn, Anu Bist is a trickster demon which thrive on causing mischief and chaos. However, he genuinely wishes to teach his students, encourages their mixing magic and wants to help them find their inner strength.
  • But Now I Must Go: Once he recovered from his injuries, Jack left the Demon Realm to resume his genie duties in the Human Realm.
  • Comically Serious: He's a trickster demon; he loves telling riddles and causing mischief. This doesn't mean he doesn't take his teaching job seriously.
  • Cool Teacher: He was the first teacher at Hexside to support the troublemakers' desires to study more than one track and helped them cultivate their talents so they could impress Principal Bump and he'd make the multi-track program official.
  • Divine Parentage: His mother was a djinn and his father a trickster demon and death god. Pretty much divine ancestry since he's a descendant of Anubis.
  • Hero of Another Story: He starts to go through masters after becoming a genie again. Chapter 107: "Resolutions" shows that his current master was Darryl McGee, and he finds himself sticking in Brighton for the time being with Molly and Scratch.
  • Large Ham: Definitely. He performs a lot of flashy impersonations and generally wacky antics; perks of being a trickster god.
  • Meaningful Rename: He resembles an anthropomorphic jackal and he decides to rename himself "Jack", which is also a common name for trickster and rebel archetypes in fairy tales and folklore.
  • Noodle Incident: He's arm wrestled against a Yule Cat, a Cerberus, and the Sphinx. He also fought Emperor Belos at some point, but lost because the Emperor knew his weakness to iron.
  • Put on a Bus: He was severely injured by Belos at the end of Book 1 and had to return to his lamp to recover while Kitsuni substituted for him at Hexside. He eventually recovered and returned in Chapter 53, but only stayed long enough to say goodbye to his students before becoming a born-again genie. Jack would eventually return in Chapter 105: "Way Down to Mel's Town" when Puck recruits him to help stop Mel.
  • Ship Tease: He gets a decent amount with Kitsuni, given how they shared a dance in her first appearance and she met with him right after he healed from his injuries sustained from fighting Belos.
  • Shout-Out: With his blue and red color scheme, black hair, and Large Ham personality, Jack's pretty much the LC equivalent of Genie (who would eventually become part of the cast.)
  • Trickster Mentor: He's a natural fit in this category, his lessons towards his students having some kind of hidden meaning.
  • We Will Meet Again: Before leaving the Isles to resume his genie duties, he assures Luz there's a chance she'll see each other again someday.

    The Pied Piper

The Pied Piper

Currently known as Sly, he's a Fae who visited the Boiling Isles centuries ago during the Savage Ages. When the witches of the Boiling Isles refused to honor their deal, the Piper got even by stealing away an entire generation of witchlings.
  • The Fair Folk: The Piper is a particularly infamous example of the Fae.
  • Fall Guy: He ended up becoming this over the Collector kidnapping the witchlings.
  • The Ghost: The closest he's gotten to an onscreen appearance in Book 1 is his depiction on a tapestry.
  • Good All Along: Chapter 66 reveals that he wasn't actually the one who took a generation of witchlings during his last visit to the Boiling Isles.
  • I Have Many Names: According to Puck, like all Fae he changes his name a lot. Apparently most recently, he goes by Sly (a Shout-Out to The Electric Piper.)
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He's only mentioned in two chapters in the first book, but his initially alleged actions are one of the main reasons why the Fae are banned from the Isles and unintentionally led to the creation of Abominations. Generations after his original visit to the Boiling Isles, his impact can still be felt.
  • Unseen No More: He appears in the flesh near the end of Chapter 62.

    Miss Heinous

Ms. Heinous/Meteora Butterfly

The recently hired Beast-Keeping teacher at Glandus High. As it turns out, she was actually acting as a spy for Lord Oberon until she learned of her origins as the half Mewman/half monster daughter of Eclipsa Butterfly and Globgor and deserted him.
  • Adaptation Species Change: She goes from a half-mewman, half-monster to being one-third Fae on top of those.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Ms. Traveler reveals in "The Glandus War: What is it Good For?" that Oberon took her from her parents, Eclipsa and Globgor, when she was an infant.
  • Final Boss: Once Emily goes down, she serves as the last person Luz and Amity have to face in the school war.
  • The Mole: She's working as one for Oberon so she can eliminate his enemies during the school war.
  • Transplant: She joins the cast as another character from Star vs. the Forces of Evil to appear.

    Queen Titania

Queen Titania

Ruler of the Seelie Court of Avalon and Oberon's ex-wife. Also known as the Blue Fairy.

    The Collector

The Collector

A particularly powerful and dangerous Fae that was sealed away by Oberon and Titania.

    Maleficent
An evil Fae, she was once one of Oberon's followers until he turned his back on her.

The Spirit World

    The Spirit World

The Coachman

Also known as Barker the Little man, a fae known for having a hatred of children and capturing them, turning them into donkeys and selling them off.

Lampwick

A troublemaking boy who was one of the Coachman's victims.
  • The Cameo: He briefly appears as one of the many spirits of children who suffered at the Coachman's hands to take revenge.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After sending the Coachman to the afterlife, he and the spirits all the other children who suffered because of the amoral fae were finally able to rest in peace.

The Underworld

    The Underworld

Hades

An Olympian God who's co-ruler of the Underworld.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: According to Word of God: after being cast into the River Styx, Hades mellowed out considerably and thus gave up his plans to rule the cosmos.
  • Adaptational Job Change: To keep a closer eye on him, the other Olympian Gods put someone in charge of the Underworld while he was in the River Styx. By the time he got out, he had to become co-ruler: he was not happy.
  • All There in the Manual: The authors have confirmed that Hades has encountered Cups and Mugs before and that he knows Baron Samedi.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Not only does he have to share his job with someone, he now has an ex-wife and kid who are implied to not respect him either. He also isn't happy when other people aren't impressed by him, as seen when Luz tells him he's not the first god she's met.
"Ugh, kids these days. They can never be pleased."
  • Parental Neglect: Guilty of this, as it is partly why Mel turned out as an Entitled Bitch.

Persephone

The other co-ruler of the Underworld.
  • Mama Bear: She may not understand her stepdaughter Mel, but she treats her like her own flesh and blood and will literally tear apart anyone who harms her, as Cronus finds out the hard way.
  • Unseen No More: After being indirectly mentioned in "Unemployment Filing", she makes her debut in "The Invasion".

Minthe

A nymph dressed like a secretary.

The Mindscape

    The Mindscape

The Inner Demon

A mind demon who was once human, he created the Forest of Fear in order to destroy the minds of witchlings by feasting on their misery. He's been haunting the Boiling Isles for 300 years, and there's no way of ending him unless he's taken out of the mindscape.
  • Arch-Enemy:
    • He is seen as such to Sheldon Snope for trapping his friends in the Forest of Fear, not that he takes Snope seriously.
    • In a way, Lilith counts as she thwarted his efforts to destroy her mind as well as Hunter's.
  • Beyond Redemption: He's spent centuries manipulating children from within their own minds and destroying them to preserve his immortality.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: He's one of the many antagonists in the story.
  • Demonic Possession: Chapter 83 shows that after Puck's body reconstructed in the Forest of Fear, the Inner Demon took control of Puck's mind so he could use his body to interact with the physical realm and cause trouble.
  • Fountain of Youth: The more misery he feeds on his victims, the younger he gets, but that only applies for each mindscape he enters.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: As "How to Save a Life" reveals, he's been possessing Puck ever since his revival, making him responsible for all of Puck's actions as the Shapeshifter (Skara's kidnapping, Darius's death, Raine disappearing, Boscha being paralyzed, and Amity, Willow, Gus and Eve being trapped on Earth) and thus, the true Arc Villain of the Boiling Isles side of the "Human Realm" Arc.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: When he makes the mistake of challenging Ms. Traveler for refusing to cease possessing Puck, she forces him out, putting him out of commission for a time and ending his reign of terror in the "Human Realm" Arc.
  • Mind Rape: He mentally destroys his victims by increasing their fears, then feeding off of them until their sanity is wiped out.
  • Really 700 Years Old: He's over 300 years old, having become his own definition of "immortal" by staying in the mindscape.
  • Was Once a Man: He was once a human and he gave up his humanity so he could never die.

Bill Cipher

Amphibia

    Amphibia
A world of sentient Amphibians, comprised of frogs, toads and newts. Everyone from this world lives on a lily pad shaped continent of mostly marshland.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: Rather than finding the Calamity Box and ending up in Amphibia at the age of 13, Anne, Sasha and Marcy found it when they were 6 and Anne lost it in the woods before she was found by Hop Pop. Each girl was taken in by the Amphibians who found and raised them, Anne and Marcy became a couple during the firefly festival, Hop Pop became mayor of Wartwood thanks to Marcy, Anne stood up to Sasha when she came to Wartwood with the tax collectors which along with their attempts to hold Marcy for ransom along with killing Hop Pop, led to their falling out with all three girls discovering their Calamity powers at some point.
  • Adaptational Badass: The Calamity Trio unlocks their respective powers around the end of Season 1's events here.
  • Transplant: Everyone from this world comes from the eponymous series.

Anne Boonchuy-Plantar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lc_anne_boonchuy_plantar.png

A 13-year-old Thai-American girl got stuck in Amphibia seven years ago. She grew up raised as an honorary Plantar in Wartwood Swamp, but hasn't given up on returning home. She represents the blue gem of heart for the Calamity Box.

  • Adaptational Curves: Anne has more muscle mass in her arms after seven years of doing farmwork.
  • Adaptational Nice Girl: Anne doesn't show a bit of her initial selfish and reckless nature, rather being respectful towards people and more patient in a situation.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Anne's much closer to the Plantar family due to having an additional 6 years living together with them, being much more protective of them.
    • In canon, Anne never put in any effort to supporting Marcy's interests until she returned to Amphibia, and they remained close friends. Here, they're girlfriends and Anne's more attentive to Marcy.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Growing up as a Plantar means developing an even more protective nature towards Sprig and Polly, her adoptive siblings, than in Amphibia.
  • Deep South: Anne seems to have picked up a country accent from living as a Plantar over the years.
  • Hero of Another Story: Anne's been living in Amphibia for seven years now along with Sasha and Marcy, and they've left their own marks through the adventures they've been having there.
  • Luminescent Blush: She tends to have these when having a moment with Marcy.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: Years of working on the Plantar Farm have led Anne to having more toned arms, with Willow complimenting them and them trying to see who's stronger in arm wrestling.
  • Official Couple: She entered a relationship with Marcy a few months back during the Firefly Festival.
  • Transplant: She is after all the Protagonist of Amphibia.

Sprig Plantar

An adventurous and curious 10-year-old pink frog and Anne's adoptive brother.

Marcy Wu-Leviathan

Anne's oldest friend turned girlfriend, she got transported to Amphibia alongside Anne and Sasha thanks to the Calamity Box. Marcy ended up in the city of Newtopia and was raised by its ruler, King Andrias, who took her in and declared her the "Princess of Amphibia". She represents the box's green gem of wit.
  • Modest Royalty: Marcy would rather wear her armor and civilian-wear than the stuffy dresses Lady Olivia picks out for her.
  • Official Couple: A few months prior, Marcy became girlfriends with Anne during the Firefly Festival.
  • Rags to Royalty: A 6-year-old human girl ends up being taken in by the King of Amphibia and becomes a princess.
  • Tomboy Princess: Keeping in line with her canon Tomboy with a Girly Streak traits, Marcy doesn't like it when Lady Olivia tries to get her to wear dresses just because of her title, preferring her artificer/rogue look.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: She may still have Boyish Short Hair, but it's long enough to be kept in a small ponytail.

Mayor Hop Pop Plantar

Sprig and Polly's grandfather and Anne's adoptive grandfather. He once worked his family farm but with Marcy's help, he became mayor of Wartwood, leaving his grandkids to do the work.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift: After beating Toadstool in the mayoral elections, Hop Pop took to wearing Toadstool's usual outfit instead of his default one.

King Andrias Leviathan

The colossal Newt ruler of Amphibia and Marcy's surrogate father, he raised her in the capital city of Newtopia.
  • Connected All Along: The end of "No Big Deal" reveals he once had an audience with Philip Clawthorne in the past.

Undisclosed

    Undisclosed

The Weird Sisters

A group of witches comprised of the Maiden, the Mother and the Crone, they can show visions into the future and have been aligned with Emperor Belos for years.
  • Canon Character All Along: "The Girl Who Never Grew Up" reveals that they're actually the Fates taking on a different form.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: The Weird Sisters had a colossal influence in the rise of Emperor Belos: centuries ago, they told him (back when he was known as Philip Clawthorne that he was meant to save the Boiling Isles from an impending threat and continued to maintain annual contact, thus changing his destiny.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Every atrocious deed Belos has ever committed is pretty much on their heads, all because they showed him a potential Bad Future.
    • If the Guardian's reaction to them is any indication, they may have been Evil All Along rather than unwitting.

Abra Blight

The ancestor of the Blight family and the creator of Abominations.

Hekapoo

The forger of interdimensional scissors and a former member of Mewni's Magical High Commission.

Bloody Mary

A creature that can be summoned by saying her name three times in front of a mirror.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Given her name, it's a strong possibility that she's Mary Gates after being trapped in the In Between Realm at some point in the Deadwardian Era.
  • Mirror Monster: Naturally since she's a being who attacks people after being summoned from a mirror. "Escape from Gatesfield" shows that she's currently inhabiting the In Between Realm.

The Horned King

An unknown entity with a deep voice that commands Luz and Belos to devour the essence of Palismen.
  • Ambiguous Situation: He's in cahoots with Belos, mentally tells him and Luz to consume palismen essence, impersonated Otabin when Luz was a child, and tried to steal Maya's soul from Luz, yet as of Chapter 71, his reasons for doing so are in the dark. He can also be heard by Hunter and the Inner Demon, but why is unclear.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: His voice is very deep-sounding when Luz hears him in her mind telling him to consume Maya's essence.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: His eyes glow green when consuming palismen essence, like Luz and Belos, implying a connection between the three. Shockingly when he tries to absorb Maya from Luz, both their eyes glow green.
  • In Name Only: According to Word of God, while he and the Horned King from The Black Cauldron are different characters, they are connected.
  • Invisible to Normals: So far, only Luz and Belos can see him, while Hunter and the Inner Demon can hear him.
  • Not-So-Imaginary Friend: Implied to have been Luz's childhood imaginary friend Otabin. It's confirmed that he took this form in "Chapter 71: The Hunting Witch".
  • Vacuum Mouth: He shows this ability when he resorts to stealing Maya out of Luz's body in "The Hunting Witch".
  • The Voice: Duh. He was introduced as this, being heard within Luz's mind being told to devour Maya.

Lute

Adam the Exorcist's 2nd in command.

Aqua

A keyblade master stranded in the Nightmare Realm.
