Locked Pages: Lock, UnLock and Edit requests

Go To

This thread is for requesting edits or unlocks to Locked Pages or for requesting locks. It can also be used for technical requests to moderators such as:

  • creating new pages in the Main/ and other restricted namespaces without going through Trope Launch Pad
  • moving discussion pages
  • moving reviews

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Check Locked Pages and Permanent Red Link Club first. They can provide guidance on what are good and bad requests.
  2. Include working links in your request to the page(s) in question.
  3. If asking for edits, state your changes exactly as they should appear on the page, including proper Example Indentation, namespacing, and pothole and quote formatting. And make sure that what you want to add is actually a valid example.
  4. We do not edit archived articles, even to correct links.
  5. If you need to have the capitalization of a page title or namespace of a work fixed, ask here.
  6. If you need to remove a ghost wick, go here.
  7. To request a page to be moved along with its history, go here.
  8. Some locked pages have ongoing cleanup threads, like Complete Monster (Thread), Five-Man Band (Thread), and Magnificent Bastard (Thread). Other than purely technical requests, edits to these pages ought to be discussed in these threads first.
  9. Also, we do not do direct edits (other than changing wicks) to Magnificent Bastard or Complete Monster example lists. Rather, you need to do the edit to a sandbox page that follows the format Sandbox.Magnificent Bastard<Name of the example subpage> and Sandbox.Monster<Name of the example subpage> (e.g for Monster.Disney it's Sandbox.Monster Disney) and ask for it to be swapped in on Saturday for Magnificent Bastard and on Monday for Complete Monster.
  10. Inappropriate pages that keep being recreated, pages banned under The Content Policy and subpages that are disallowed (like Headscratchers pages for tropes) are valid reasons for requesting page locks.

NOTE: Edited with OP's permission.

~Arawn999, may I recommend the unreleased work thread? In particular, I don't think we can glean The Rival from a trailer.

~IndirectActiveTransport, this post:

  • Tagging on a second example goes against the rules of formatting. Each example should stand on its own.
  • The entire page looks full of ZCE's (perils of being an appearance trope), but there are things in Dangerously Short Skirt, like clearly being fanservice, usually belonging to an Action Girl, etc., that can improve the write-up. Maybe swing it by a clean-up thread?

Belated - ~MaLady, I'm not actively going through the capitalization page. Just been handling them as they come, either by making a request here, or if a cut request has been submitted.

There's some weird redlinking thing going on when I type Administrivia.Tropes Needing Examples. Is that something the mods can fix? If they don't have to, how do I fix it myself?

Gotta point out severe errors in formatting for this passage on Fallen Creator:

  • Traviss' works started out with the hit Hard Contact, which is considered one of the best Clone Wars novels written, and then delivered the well received Triple Zero. But following these books, her bias towards Mandalorians and her demonizing of the Jedi left EU readers divided. Things only got worse with her contributions to Legacy of the Force, where she managed to kill off two beloved fan favorites in disappointing fashion, and delegating the main plot to the sideline to make way for the Mandalorians. Her abrasive attitude towards people who disagreed with her on Star Wars message boards gained her a sizable Hatedom. She has since left writing in the EU due to contractual reasons, but mentioning her is surefire Flamebait for some. Since then, she has moved on to the Gears of War and Halo universes. Her first book for the latter, Halo: Glasslands was poorly received by the fandom for its demonization of Dr. Catherine Halsey. Traviss removed many of Halsey's positive traits, such as her guilt over the SPARTAN Program, and had most of her companions now hate her and constantly talk about how evil she is. In addition, Glasslands "good" characters were actually just as amoral as Halsey, causing severe Moral Dissonance as they lectured her and heaped humiliating punishments. Thus the sequel book, Halo: The Thursday War, attempted several Authors Saving Throws to try to rectify the hypocrisy, and 343 Industries itself turned Glasslands protagonist into a villain.

The three apostrophes create a bold stretch. Also the saving throws thing prevents proper formatting. Two proposed edits:

1. Replace "''Glassland'''s "[[DesignatedHero good]]" characters" with "the "[[DesignatedHero good]]" characters of ''Glasslands''", and likewise "''Glassland'''s protagonist" to "the protagonist of ''Glasslands''".

2. Change "Authors Saving Throws" to "Author's Saving Throws".

It could be a peril a locked page that takes going through here days to get edits done on. But I digress, Dangerously Short Skirt, its pro wrestling folder, can it be changed to this?

  • "El Nuevo Exotico" Maximo competes in a piece of fabric that could charitably be called a skirt. It mainly serves to draw attention to his crotch.
  • The "skirts" Daizee Haze wrestles in tend to be shorter than her Modesty Shorts. This is also true of her protege Veda Scott.
  • Black Rose wrestles in "skirts" that cover more above her waist than beneath it. This is also true of her protege Red Velvett.

Sorry it's just that quotes usually go under Images from what I've seen. So I assumed that must be the rule for the site or at least what's recommended.

On Monster.Film S To Z, change the link for Film.Summerof Eighty Four to Film.Summer Of 84 (the former is being cut for miscapitalization).

~Turquoise Owl - Why use the Miscapitalization Sandboxes when we can just request for Mod Moves to fix capitalization?

Since that is the way 'to avoid losing edit history'...

Oh, right, we still need to give that feature more advertising... Well, here it is, I guess.

At Literature H to Q, for The Power of Five, for Susan and Colton (the third entry is fine), please just use the entries at YMMV.The Power Of Five

Also for that page:

  • The History of the Runestaff: The brutal and ambitious Baron Meliadus of Kroiden serves as the commander of the armies of Granbretan and one of the chief agents of its conquests. Feared across Europe for his cruelty, Meliadus brutally strips conquered lands of their resources and commits unspeakable atrocities on their people. Swearing vengeance upon hero Dorian Hawkmoon when his attempt to turn him into a tool of his prior vendetta against Count Brass—an enmity begun by Meliadus's attempt to rape Brass's daughter Yissolda—by means of the brain-eating Black Jewel fails, Meliadus comes to increasingly devote his resources towards personal revenge, earning the displeasure of his master King-Emperor Huon—which in turn drives Meliadus to overthrow Huon and seize power for himself in a betrayal shocking even to Granbretan, though he himself is killed by Hawkmoon shortly after. Ambitious, self-absorbed and cruel to a fault, in an empire of evil Baron Meliadus stands out above the rest.
  • The Midnight Library: Old Bill Cole, from "An Apple A Day", is the Cranky Neighbor of Tim Barrett's grandmother and turns out to be hiding a truly horrific secret. After Tim gets too close to his prized apple orchard, Cole furiously reprimands him and his grandmother, going so far as to taunt them over Tim's missing grandfather. When Tim vandalizes his orchard in revenge, he eats one of the apples, only to discover he is slowly mutating into an apple tree. When Tim goes to Cole's desperate for answers, he discovers far too late that the old man's orchard is made up of dozens of poor souls who ingested his apples, among them many other children, as well as his grandfather. Cole than watches with a cruel smile as the boy transforms into the newest addition to his orchard.

And slight rewrites for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina at Live Action TVA To L:

  • Lucifer Morningstar, or Satan himself, the "Dark Lord" of the witches, is an arrogant and sadistic Fallen Angel aiming to bring hell to earth. Creating the system the witches live under, Satan sways countless witches into damnation while also enacting a system of murder and mayhem that consumes endless lives. Seeking to corrupt Sabrina after fathering her while possessing her father Edward Spellman, Satan sends Madam Satan, aka Lilith, to wreck the town, risking many lives in the process. When Lilith grows too independent, Satan murders her Love Interest and forces her to eat him, revealing he intends to force Sabrina into marriage to claim her and use her as a bridge between worlds to enact a pure Hell on Earth.
  • Mr. Bartel, from "A Midwinter's Tale", is one of the single most terrifying demons in the series. Bartel poses as a friendly Santa so he can lure in "beautiful" children, like Susie (later Theo) Putnam. Once Bartel has them, he has them dipped in hot wax and uses dark magic to preserve them forever in "beauty" while they are terrifyingly alive and conscious, with one statue still able to shed tears. Bartel has a massive collection of such statues, bragging how he makes them himself while intending on having Susie/Theo join them.

Requesting locks on the following for the Star Wars Cleanup project until they get patched up in Sandboxes: * FranchiseOriginalSin.Star Wars — Lots and lots of complaining * VoodooShark.Star Wars — Almost no valid examples * YMMV.Star Wars * YMMV.The Rise Of Skywalker — Walls of text, complaint magnet

Those are the ones I'm pretty sure the thread agreed should be locked, while others in need of cleanup haven't gotten a "we should request a lock" talk... I think. There's a lot going on tongue

Also, we're ready to have Narm.Star Wars unlocked and replaced with Sandbox.Star Wars Narm — it ain't perfect but it's much better than it was.

Thank you!

On Permanent Red Link Club, the description for License To Whine is a little misleading, as it was really a troll page solely meant to attract complaining. So please change it from:

to:

  • License To Whine: This page was created by a troll, solely for the purpose of listing tropes that are already complaint magnets to attract even more complaining.

EDIT: Use what [down] suggested, please.

Please cut Aerys from A Song of Ice and Fire (first folder, second entry).

Also, at Batman, for Elseworlds, please cut the first entry and the last tree, and then add this:

  • Earth-3839:
    • Batman & Captain America: Red Skull, here a high-ranking member of the Nazi regime, allies himself with the Joker in his latest plot for expanding the Third Reich. Having the Joker murder several innocents to assist in his own theft of an atomic bomb dubbed "Fat Boy," Red Skull casually poisons one of his own soldiers for questioning his orders, and later has the Joker slaughter a path into a military base. Betraying the Joker at this juncture, Red Skull boasts his plans to parade the Joker's broken body around as a trophy, and reveals his true master plan to drop Fat Boy onto Washington, D.C., then use the ensuing millions of casualties to pave the way for the Nazis to invade America. Even when his original plan is thwarted, Red Skull still attempts to drop Fat Boy miles out of Washington, gleefully proclaiming that the fallout will still kill countless innocents.
    • Superman & Batman: Generations:
      • The Ultra-Humanite attacks the Metropolis World's Fair with a giant robot in 1939, intending to kill civilians until he gets $1 million. After he is stopped, he takes Lois Lane as his hostage until Batman and Superman find his lair. He reveals that he has set the Hyperglobe to blow up Metropolis, but Batman and Superman stop him. Though seemingly killed, it is later revealed he has swapped brains with the below-mentioned Lex Luthor. Years later, he exposes Lois's unborn son, Joel, to Gold Kryptonite, rendering him powerless, and manipulates him into believing that Superman stripped him of his powers. In 1979, Joel and the Ultra-Humanite attack the wedding of Bruce Wayne Jr. and Supergirl, leading to the deaths of Supergirl and Lois. Hours later, Joel also dies, because the concoction from the Humanite that gave him superpowers is ultimately fatal. In 1989, when Superman tracks him down, the Ultra-Humanite reveals he had several of his close friends and family murdered and plans to swap brains with Superman to gain his powers. When Superman stops him, it is revealed that the Ultra-Humanite has made it appear that Superman killed him in cold blood out of spite for Superman.
      • Lex Luthor is far worse than his mainstream counterpart. In 1929, he betrays his boss, Dr. Erwin Stanislaus, and has a robot wreak havoc on the city until it is stopped. In 2008, Luthor, now a brain in a robot's body and calling himself Metallo, attacks Metropolis and is stopped, but not before he detonates an EMP that causes a blackout in Metropolis. In 2025, Luthor escapes from prison and detonates a larger EMP, causing humanity to fall back into the Dark Ages temporarily, with hundreds of millions dying. In the 25th century, Luthor is freed again and goes to the Superman Museum, planting a bomb and intending to gain control of every computer grid on the planet. The bomb is contained safely, but Luthor succeeds in gaining control of every computer grid, and wages war on humanity until he is stopped.
