Characters / Gods' School: The Olympian Gods

Go To

A list of all the characters in GODS' School.

    open/close all folders

Mount Olympus Students

     General
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Almost all of the Gods are at best portrayed as being teenage bullies, but they are still far more tolerable than their mythological counterparts. On the other hand, some of them, such as Aphrodite, have had some of the more nefarious aspects of their personalities completely ignored thus far.
  • Age Lift: In mythology, the gods are portrayed as adults, often being hundreds of thousands of years old. Here, they're aged down into high schoolers, but retain their immortality.
  • Lack of Empathy: Downplayed Trope in comparison to their usual portrayals, but most of the Gods are indifferent to the possibility that Paris, their school's sole mortal student, died during the Titan attack.
  • School of No Studying: While the students have classes, they have yet to be seen doing any school related work.
  • Unrelated in the Adaptation: With the exception of Artemis and Apollo, who are still portrayed as twins, none of the gods are related to avoid implications of Divine Incest.
  • Vague Age: While they're all teenagers, their exact ages are never outright stated. Notably, they are immortal teenagers, which means they are all likely much older than they appear to be. Complicating things, some myths implied the gods matured quickly after being born, implying they could even be younger than they look.

Protagonists

     Eris

Voiced by: Morgan Berry

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bb6227ab_3777_4cb1_b8f9_eda8300c48a2.png
The teen Goddess of Strife and Discord. She is the central character of GODS' School and the daughter of Nyx, the primordial Goddess of the Night.
  • All the Other Reindeer: She struggles to fit in with her fellow students, who judge her for being the daughter of Nyx.
  • Color Motif: Her color scheme is primarily purple and gold.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She's prone to making sarcastic remarks.
  • Expy: She is, in essence, the GODS' School equivalent of Raven Queen from Ever After High, right down to having a dark color palette and struggle to fit in with her fellow students.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: She can be quite irritable, which makes her appear intimidating to the other gods.
  • Love Interest: The human student Paris is set up to be one to her, though nothing has come of it yet.
  • Messy Hair: Her hair is deliberately drawn to look unkempt compared to the other gods.
  • Misunderstood Loner with a Heart of Gold: She's not a loner by choice, as most of the cast avoids her due to her being Nyx's daughter, as well as a slew of other unfortunate misunderstandings that make her appear more antagonistic than she is.
  • The Protagonist: She's stated to be the protagonist of GODS' School. Downplayed, however, in that each episode tends to focus on a different set of characters.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: She appears aloof at first, but she genuinely wishes to be accepted by her fellow gods and is friendly once they get to know her.

     Paris
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/47ed9b22_7013_4fd8_976e_1a7fde99aade.png

Voiced by: Brandon Winckler

Olympus’ mortal exchange student from Troy. Being the first and only mortal in school, he struggles to fit in with his divine classmates.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Noticeably has a tan compared to most of the other characters.
  • Commonality Connection: Relates to Eris in feeling like an outsider among their schoolmates.
  • Friendless Background: Claims he didn’t have any friends on earth.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Due to his lack of experience in the Gods realm, he is ignorant of certain things, such as the existence of sphinxes like Sfiga, whom he misidentifies as a cat, to her annoyance.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: Lists of three brothers and three sisters, although he was cut off before he could mention his other sisters beyond the first three.
  • New Kid Stigma: Suffers from this and being the only mortal student in a school of gods.
  • Nice Guy: His worst traits are awkwardness and ignorance, but he's otherwise a genuinely nice and understanding person, and one of the few who tries to see and accept Eris for who she is.

     Sfiga

Voiced by: Lizzie Freeman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0179506c_4e40_4a47_a7d8_562b34dcd1dd.png
A sphinx and Eris' best friend.
  • Best Friend: To Eris.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Shows signs of jealousy when Eris and Paris begin to develop a friendship.
  • Furry Reminder: Tends to have behaviors typical of a cat. Ironically, she dislikes being treated like one.
  • Our Sphinxes Are Different: She mostly resembles a sphinx but acts more like a cat during her Furry Reminder moments, and she is much smaller than sphinxes are usually depicted as being. She also doesn't speak in riddles, let alone ask anyone to solve them.

Gods

     Aphrodite

Voiced by: Lizzie Freeman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1b670333_d9ac_481d_bd63_7829a10e1635.png
The teen goddess of love and beauty.
  • Crush Blush: She glows a bright pink when feeling nervous around Hephaestus.
  • Extreme Doormat: She lets Hera boss her around without defending herself. Averted with Ares, however, whom she’s far bolder toward.
  • God Couple: With Ares originally, although they break up in the episode Aphrodite and Hephaestus.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She has blonde hair and a pure heart.
  • Hypocrite:
    • She calls Ares cocky and resentful during their relationship ending argument, to which he fires back by calling her out on demonstrating the same traits.
    • She also gets jealous when Ares flirts with Eos, despite the fact that she also flirted with Hephaestus in front of him and does a poor job of hiding her feelings for him.
  • It's All About Me: Instead of being concerned for her friends and schoolmates during the attack on Mount Olympus, she focuses her attention on her troubled love life with Ares, which Hera calls her out on.
  • Long Hair Is Feminine: She is one of the most traditionally feminine goddesses in the cast and her hair is so long that it drags across the floor.
  • Love Freak: She is in love with the concept of love and extends her loving nature to everyone she meets, oblivious to the broken hearts she leaves behind in the process. Ares calls her out on this during their break up argument, although it clearly doesn’t stick since she’s still unable to make up her mind on whether she wants to be with him or Hephaestus.
  • Love Interest: Has two in the form of Ares and Hephaestus, both of whom she has feelings for. While she dated the former, they broke up in the episode Aphrodite and Hephaestus, with it being implied that this has happened several times before.
  • Love Triangle: Is in two separate ones, the first with Ares and Eos, because Eos wants Ares' heart, and the second with Hephaestus and Ares, who both want to be with her.
  • Serial Romeo: Ares implies that she's one during their breakup in the episode Aphrodite and Hephaestus, and that she always goes back to him after she gets bored with her new fling.
  • Shrinking Violet: She is quite introverted and insecure, unaware of the impact her beauty has on those around her. Probably.
  • World's Most Beautiful Woman: She easily attracts many suitors due to her beauty, although she’s unaware of this and quite insecure about her appearance.

     Apollo
The teen God of music, healing, light, truth, and medicine.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Downplayed Trope. When the Titans attack Olympus, he does not join Zeus and his group to defend it, instead sitting back and playing the lyre with the others that stayed behind. He also appears distressed when things begin to go wrong during the battle.
  • Ambiguously Gay: Possibly Ambiguously Bi. As a reference back to his mythological counterparts lore, he is stated to have a crush on a mortal named Hyacinthus, who he had been admiring via the Omma.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Noticeably more tan than most of the other characters.
  • Jack of All Trades: Like his mythological counterpart, he is the god of many things.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Official material says he has this sort of relationship with his sister, Artemis, although it has yet to be reflected in the show itself.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Looks a lot like his sister Artemis, except her hair is white instead of blonde like his, and he’s a bit more tan.
  • Unrelated in the Adaptation: Averted. Unlike the relationships between the other Gods that have been rewritten to avoid the implication of Divine Incest, he and Artemis are still twins.

     Ares

Voiced by: Griffin Puatu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1b648008_4d95_42b2_a02e_30ec08a15e95.png
The teen god of War.
  • Adaptational Wimp: In the original myth, Ares was part of the Olympians' counter-attack on the Aloads from start to finish, although he did end up captured. In the series, he doesn't even try to fight them and jumps on the first excuse he can get to stay on safe Mount Olympus, being mocked for his cowardice as a result.
  • Betty and Veronica: The Veronica to Hephaestus' Betty for Aphrodites affection.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Gets jealous and sad about Aphrodite flirting with Hephaestus.
  • Dirty Coward: He's eager to beat the tar out of Paris, a mortal who stands no chance against him over a misunderstanding. But when the Aloads come knocking he immediately cowers in fear and takes the first chance he gets to avoid having to fight them.
  • Hypocrite: He gets angry about Aphrodite having feelings for Hephaestus and flirting with him, when he is very cuddly with Eos in episode 3 right in front of Aphrodite.
  • Jerk Jock: He's a meathead bully that's always ready for a fight.
  • Love Interest: To Aphrodite and Eos. While he dated the former, they break up in episode 4, and he's seen flirting with Eos after reassuring her that he's no longer with Aphrodite.

     Artemis

Voiced by: Hannah Hellwig

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a1c3a77f_1276_424b_9bf9_f088b344db7e.png
The teen goddess of the moon, the hunt, the wild, maidenhood, and deer.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Rescues Zeus and company from the Aloads after they are captured and threatened with exile to Tartarus.
  • Girl Posse: She hunts with a gang of nymphs, just like her mythological counterpart.
  • Girliness Upgrade: When she gets her epithet in episode 4, she is given a silky blue dress, silver tiara, and heels, replacing her blue basketball uniform.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Official material says she has this sort of relationship with her brother, Apollo, although it has yet to be reflected in the show itself.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Looks a lot like her brother Apollo, except her hair is white instead of blonde like his, and he’s a bit more tan.
  • Tomboy: She is the most tomboyish goddess in the cast, and is a brave and fierce warrior.
  • Unrelated in the Adaptation: Averted. Unlike the relationships between the other Gods that have been rewritten to avoid the implication of Divine Incest, she and Apollo are still twins.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifter: She can transform into a white stag at will.

     Athena

Voiced by: Kira Buckland

The teen goddess of wisdom and combat.
  • Academic Athlete: Shes both wise and battle-oriented, just like her mythological counterpart.
  • Adaptational Dye-Job: Athena was recognized in Greek mythology for her gray eyes. Here, she is depicted as having green eyes.
  • Intrigued by Humanity: Shes the first god to take an interest in the mortal Paris despite the other gods' preemptive dislike of him because of her fascination with heroes and mortals.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: One of her goddess powers is the ability to spontaneously summon a shield for protection in battle.
  • Nice Girl: She's one of the nicer gods, and the only one who didn't have a prejudiced reaction when she first learned about Paris, Mount Olympus' first mortal student. She also goes out of her way to reassure Eris about her friendship with Paris when the latter expresses doubt that he truly sees her as a friend.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She is the goddess of battle, but she wears a dress and has a cheerful, feminine personality.

     Demeter

Voiced by: Deneen Melody

The teen goddess of the harvest.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Upon seeing Minthe snuggle up to Hades, she makes an amused remark to Persephone that it seems like the two have rekindled their relationship. Unaware that Persephone is currently involved in a Love Triangle with Minthe for Hades' heart.
  • Unrelated in the Adaptation: Due to having received an Age Lift like most of the Olympian cast, she's not Persephone's mother in this iteration.

     Dionysus

Voiced by: P.M. Seymour

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/98bfd33d_5cbd_4cb7_bf8e_b6715e8851dc.png

The teen god of wine and theater.

     Eos

Voiced by: Melissa Sternenberg

The teen goddess of the dawn whom Ares has taken a liking to.
  • Betty and Veronica: The more haughty and forward Veronica to Aphrodite's Nice Girl Betty in their Love Triangle with Ares. Or so it seems.
  • Satellite Love Interest: Similar to Hephaestus with Aphrodite, her only role so far is to be Ares' other love interest who tempts him away from his relationship with Aphrodite.

     Hades

Voiced by: John Carter, John Choi

The teen god of the Underworld.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Dresses in black and has a rather haggard and creepy appearance, but he's a shy kind person.
  • The Lost Lenore: Had feelings for Leuke before meeting Minthe and Persephone, but he solemnly says that she's gone now, with it being unclear what happened to her.
  • Love Interest: Has one in Persephone, although his jealous ex-girlfriend Minthe stands in the way of their relationship.
  • Psychopomp: Not currently, but it is said that he will eventually succeed his mentor Charon and become one.

     Hecate

Voiced by: Deneen Melody

     Hephaestus

Voiced by: John Carter, John Choi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f873b59c_db19_4264_b82a_1fb5459cdc07.png
The teen god of metallurgy. He has low self-esteem, but is an extraordinary blacksmith.

     Hera

Voiced by: Keenan Spencer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/250d6984_971e_4143_851d_4de2195bb515.png
The teen goddess of marriage and family, She is the queen of the gods, and the head of the cheerleaders and welcoming committee.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Zeus refers to her as his "beloved peacock".
  • Alpha Bitch: She is the queen bee of Olympus and plays the role to a "T," being rude and judgmental to her fellow students, particularly Eris, who she makes fun of during their first day back on Olympus.
  • Animal Motifs: Peacocks, like the goddess she is based on. She not only has peacock feathers in her design, but Zeus also refers to her as his beloved peacock and gave her one as a pet.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She is very clingy and jealous toward Zeus because she is afraid he will cheat on her. Justified because it's Zeus, and it's implied that he's cheated on her before.
  • Destructive Romance: Hera’s relationship with Zeus is extremely toxic, despite their genuine love and belief that they are destined to be together. Zeus is a self-centered serial cheater who feeds Hera's insecurities, and Hera is incredibly mean and jealous as a result of Zeus's frequent cheating. They’re both fully aware of the shortcomings in their relationship but are incapable of breaking up with each other.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Curses Echo to repeat everything she hears, rendering her unable to speak for herself again, solely because she's a serial gossip.
  • Fantastic Racism: She is a goddess who despises humans and does not believe in gods mixing with them.
  • God Couple: With Zeus.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Rightfully calls Aphrodite out on focusing on her troubled relationship with Ares while Mount Olympus is under attack by giants.
  • Loved by All: Despite her nasty attitude, she is the most popular student in Olympus, second only to Zeus, her boyfriend. She's so beloved that Eris upsetting her in the first episode only served to further tarnish Eris' reputation among their schoolmates.
  • Properly Paranoid: She's shown to be suspicious of Zeus cheating on her even when there is little evidence to back it up, but given that he has cheated on her several times with other goddesses, her suspicions are not entirely unfounded.
  • Rapid Hair Growth: Her hair grows back to its original length almost immediately after being cut by Eris' discus throw.

     Hermes

Voiced by: Brandon Winckler

     Hestia

     Nike

     Persephone

Voiced by: Michele Knotz

The teen goddess of spring. She loves nature, flowers, and pomegranates.

     Poseidon

Voiced by: P.M. Seymour

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/5b1b047f_a90e_468b_982e_f0902e590a06.png
The teen god of the sea.
  • Best Friend: To Zeus. They're often seen hanging out with each other and messing around together.
  • Casanova Wannabe: He considers himself a ladykiller, but its evident that the female students are mostly annoyed with his antics, with the exception of Amphitrite, who appears to have a crush on him.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Has the longest hair of the male divine students and is quite easy on the eyes.
  • Heroic Comedic Sociopath: Sends an earthquake down to the human world as a prank and mocks them for panicking and trying to protect their children.
  • Immortal Immaturity: He is the immortal god of the sea, but he is also one of the cast's least mature divine students.
  • Making a Splash: As the god of the sea, he can control water using his trident.
  • Prongs of Poseidon: Carries around a silver trident which he uses his powers through.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: The only student that is never seen with a shirt on.

     Zeus

Voiced by: Sean Chiplock

The teen God of the skies and lightning. He the captain of the Olympic team and the son of Kronos.
  • Berserk Button: Telling him he'll never live up to the legacy of the titans and more specifically his father. Hera is aware of this and intentionally presses said button in an argument to be petty.
  • Big Man on Campus: He's the most popular male student on Mount Olympus, having dozens of fangirls cheering him on in his introduction.
  • Broken Ace: He's one of the most powerful gods, the son and successor of Kronos and currently dating Hera, the queen bee of their school. Yet he also struggles with self-esteem issues, fears he will never live up to Chronos and his relationship with Hera is extremely toxic thanks to his constant cheating and her resulting jealousy.
  • Cannot Tell a Lie: He is incapable of telling even minor lies.
  • Destructive Romance: Zeus's relationship with Hera is extremely toxic, despite their genuine love and belief that they are destined to be together. Zeus is a self-centered serial cheater who feeds Hera's insecurities, and Hera is incredibly mean and jealous as a result of Zeus's frequent cheating. They’re both fully aware of the shortcomings in their relationship but are incapable of breaking up with each other.
  • Expy: He looks a lot like Hercules from Disney's Hercules.
  • Gaslighting: During an argument, he tries to paint Hera as unreasonable for being upset with him for cheating, attempting to convince her that she’s just a jealous person in general.
  • God Couple: With Hera. They have a loving relationship, but that hasn't stopped him from cheating on her several times.
  • Jerkass: He torments humans for fun and gaslights his girlfriend about cheating on her.
  • Loved by All: The most popular student on Mount Olympus, to the point of attracting a bunch of fangirls.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Zeus desperately wants his father Kronos to be proud of him but can't seem to gain his approval no matter what he does, which frustrates him to no end.

Other Immortals

     Amphitrite

     Echo

Voiced by: Deneen Melody

A nymph who enjoys to gossip.
  • Crying Wolf: The one time she has something important to say, everyone else cuts her off because they assume she's gossiping, and Hera curses her before she can share the information.
  • Gossipy Hens: She enjoys listening in on other students' drama and sharing what she's learned with her classmates, which gets her in trouble with them. Her reputation as a gossip is also what ultimately leads to Hera cursing her.
  • Not Helping Your Case: When she tries to warn Artemis about Nyx, Artemis assumes Echo is merely trying to gossip. Echo denies this but then immediately starts prattling on about how she watched Apollo use the Omma to speak to his mortal crush in an excited manner.
  • Saying Too Much: She rambles nervously during her confrontation with Hera, accidentally repeating what she overheard during Zeus' conversation with her, which enrages Hera enough to curse her.
  • Unkempt Beauty: As a nymph, she is as beautiful as the goddesses, but she dresses in forest-themed rags.

     Iris

Voiced by: Ivy Dupler

Goddess of the rainbow and messenger for the gods.

     Medusa

Voiced by: Crystal-Jade Vaughan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0eabc05f_19db_4de0_b152_00b4b5a02f3e.png
A snake-like and beautiful monster whose eyes can turn people into stone.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Keeps her eyes closed out of necessity due to her ability to turn people into stone by looking at them. This renders her blind, although it has yet to be seen hindering her in any way.
  • Gorgeous Gorgon: She looks no less attractive than the other female characters in the cast despite being a gorgon.
  • It's Personal: She has a serious chip on her shoulder when it comes to mortals, due to one of them beheading her in the past.
  • Medusa: The mythological character she's based on.

     Minthe

Voiced by: Ivy Dupler

A Naiad from the river Cocytus.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: The series reverses the roles of Minthe and Persephone to turn Minthe into this. In the original story of Minthe, Minthe merely flirted with Hades and ended up being turned into a mint-plant, courtesy of Persephones jealousy. This interpretation of her character is currently blackmailing Persephone into staying away from Hades so she can have him all to herself.
  • Betty and Veronica: The Veronica to Persephone’s Betty in their love rivalry for Hades’ affection.
  • Blackmail: She knows something about Persephone that she uses to keep the goddess from pursuing Hades. What that is hasn't been revealed yet.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Acts this way toward Hades despite no longer being in a relationship with him. Her jealousy is what prevents Persephone and Hades from getting together, even going so far as to threaten Persephone to stay away from him.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifter: Can transform into a mint plant at will.

Faculty

     The Caryatids

Voiced by: Michele Knotz

A group of living statues who act as Mount Olympus' alarm system.
  • Jerkass: They're moody bullies and gossips on the best of days and utter failures as guards.

     Gaia

Voiced by: Melissa Sternenberg

A titaness and one of the head teachers of Mount Olympus.
  • Adults Are Useless: When the Aloads attack Mount Olympus the best she can do is lead the students in prayers for protection to Kronos while Zeus, Poseidon, Athena and Hades, who are teenagers, go out to actually fight the giants.

     Kronos

Voiced by: Sean Chiplock

The headmaster of Mount Olympus, an ages old titan.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: An even more extreme example than most of the cast. In the original Greek mythos, the thing Kronos was most known for was devouring his children alive out of paranoia that one of them would dethrone him and eventually getting his comeuppance when the youngest, Zeus, escaped this fate with the help of his mother Rhea and returned in adulthood to free his siblings. In the show Kronos appears to hold no grudges against the younger gods and vice versa, acting as their beloved principal and gushing over how cute they all are.
  • Anger Born of Worry: He's furious when he hears about Zeus' groups poorly planned out counter-attack on the Aloads and scoffs at Gaia's idea that Artemis should get two epithets for saving the day since he views her actions as just as reckless.
  • Big Good: As opposed to his mythological counterpart. In times of crisis, the gods and Gaia tend to look to him for aid and guidance and he leads the other titans when it comes to keeping threats like the Aloads in check.
  • Top God: Seems to be this, as Zeus is still a teenager and hasn't ascended to the throne yet.

Antagonists

     The Aloads

Voiced by: Samuel Mezza

Two giants who were supposed to be imprisoned in Tartarus.
  • Adaptational Badass: In the original myths the Aloads' attack on Mount Olympus was repelled rather easily with their only achievement being the kidnapping of Ares (which none of the other Olympians seemed to care all that much about). In the show the Aloads climbing up the mountain is treated as a major crisis by the characters and Zeus' group nearly ends up being sent to Tartarus trying to fight them.
  • Dies Differently In The Adaptation: While they're still defeated by Artemis using her Voluntary Shapeshifting and speed to outsmart and outmaneuver them, rather than accidentally kill each other with their spears they collide while chasing after her and end up falling back into Tartarus.
  • The Dreaded: The Olympians are terrified the moment they're informed the Aloads are at their doorstep, with even Gaia being close to panicking at the mere mention of their names.

     Nyx

Voiced by: Emily Wallace

The goddess and personification of the night and Eris' mother.
  • Missing Mom: Eris implies in episode 4 that Nyx was never present in her life and dismisses the idea that her visions of Nyx might be her mother trying to get in contact due to missing her.
