Kagura Family

     General 
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Himari (in high school) and Sumomo often have insane fantasies and often have wild solutions to problems in any given story.
  • Potty Failure: Anyone who pisses off Sumomo (and Himari when she's drunk) is bound to suffer this thanks to her feeding them expired foods.

A pink-haired girl that has a dream to be the best in the world at something like a mad scientist or a mafia boss. Good friends with Rin and Mei.

Sumomo's mom who copes with Sumomo's wild antics. Sometimes married to another man or a single mom, depending on the plot.
  • Alternate Identity Amnesia: When she returns to her senses, she doesn't remember what she did while drunk.
  • Big Eater: In high school, she really loved to eat. She even once snuck food in class.
  • Can't Hold Her Liquor: She gets drunk easily from one shot of whiskey.
  • Domestic Abuse: She is a frequent victim of this as a housewife.
  • Former Teen Rebel: She was wild like Sumomo in her youth. She is always embarrassed whenever this is brought up.
  • Good Parents: She may scold Sumomo for her antics, but she truly loves her.
  • Happily Married: She has a happy marriage when she is married to Iori. When she is married to another man however... it tends to be toxic.
  • Only Sane Man: Her past aside, she along with Ayane is one of the few well-adjusted characters in the series, at least when she's not drunk.
  • Jekyll & Hyde: One shot of whiskey, either straight or laced in an otherwise normal drink... and LOOK OUT!!!'
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She is afraid of cicadas and she even passed out when Sumomo and Yuzu gave her cicada shells as a present.

     Iori Kagura 
Sumomo's dad who is a bit lax when it comes to Sumomo's antics. He is sometimes dead or Himari's second husband depending on the story.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: Many stories depict him as a good father to Sumomo in contrast to the men Himari has married since his death.
  • Permissive Parents: He doesn't scold Sumomo as much as Himari. In fact he indulges in Sumomo's wild antics.

     Yuzu Kagura 
Sumomo's sister.

Suzumori Family

     General 
  • Only Sane Man: Aside from grandmother and Itsuki, everyone is relatively normal compared to the rest of the cast.

     Rin Suzumori

Brown-haired girl that loves to eat sweets, kappa maki and eat her dad's cake. Very sharp. Good friends with Sumomo and Mei.

     Ayane Suzumori

Rin's mother who is strict at times but understanding.
  • Characterization Marches On: In her debut, Ayane (called Blair in the English dub) was cheating on Haruto and was an abusive mother towards Rin.
  • Distinguishing Mark: Ayane sports a mole under her left eye.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: Ayane looked quite different in her debut episode. She had brown hair and a different face and was missing her signature mole.
  • Good Parents: She may be strict at times, but she is a very loving and dedicated mother to Rin.
  • Happily Married: To Haruto.
  • High-School Sweethearts: She and Haruto have known each other since highschool. They are now married and have a daughter.
  • Only Sane Man: She is one of the few well-adjusted adults in the series. In one episode she blanked out when Inuzuka and his groupies engage in random antics while trying to save her from Haruto's crazy co-worker.
  • Student Council President: She was a student council president and was quite the strict one. Sho even noted that she is stricter than his mother.

     Haruto Suzumori

Rin's goofy but protective father. A kind and caring husband to Ayane.
  • Butt-Monkey: He is a frequent victim of Rin's teasing and it is played for laughs.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Haruto may be a goof sometimes, but he can be tough and stand up to defend his family and friends whenever the situation calls for it.
  • Doting Parent: Rin has him wrapped around her little finger and he does everything to make her happy.
  • Dub Name Change: An early episode named him Alex.
  • Good Parents: He is a good father to Rin and he always plays with her.
  • Happily Married: To Ayane.
  • High-School Sweethearts: He and Ayane have known each other since highschool. They are now married and have a daughter.
  • I Know Karate: He knows judo techniques and was a champion in high school but he only uses them for self-defense purposes.
  • Informed Deformity: Rin and Sumono often poke fun at this thinning hair and his "chubby" belly, even though he looks average.
  • Lovable Jock: He took judo in high school and he is an all-around Nice Guy.
  • Nice Guy: He might act childish at times, but he is one of the nicest guys in the series.
  • Running Gag: Whenever Rin and/or Ayane store cakes in the fridge, he ends up eating them without their permission, causing him to get punished in silly ways.

    Ren Suzumori 
Rin's little brother. He doesn't appear often.

    Itsuki 
Ayane's brother who wanders around the world.
  • The Drifter: He wanders around the world and has no real job.
  • The Ditz: He is not very bright.
  • Hidden Depths: He is good at engineering systems, and managed to improve everybody's workflow with a system he made at a company.

    Grandmother 
Rin's grandmother. She is often on Haruto's side of the family.
  • Depending on the Artist: Exaggerated. Her appearance varies wildly from episode to episode especially in earlier episodes.
  • Doting Grandparent: Rin is the apple of her eye, though she will often deny it.
  • Never Mess with Granny: She may be an old woman, but if someone hurts her family, she will get revenge on that person.

    Grandfather 
Rin's grandfather.
  • The Quiet One: He doesn't speak at all and communicates using signs.

The Uwasa Yakuza

The core of Uwasa Gang is Masamune, Aoi and Mei's family, known as Satsuki/Kigetsu/Kisaragi.

     General 
  • Alternate Character Reading: Some episodes have Aoi and Masamune's family name as Kigetsu instead of Satsuki. This is because the kanji for their name 皐月, can be read either way.
  • Neighbourhood-Friendly Gangsters: Despite their profession, they are some of the most friendliest people and will help anyone in need.

     Aoi Satsuki/Kigetsu/Kisaragi 
Masamune's wife and the original leader of the Uwasa yakuza. She died sometime after Mei was born.

Uwasa clan leader. He is Mei's father.
  • Doting Parent: Mei is the apple of his eye, and he values her happiness above all.
  • King Incognito: He works as a toilet cleaner in order to earn "clean" money so he can take Aoi to an expensive restaurant. One guy gave him a hard time, throwing cigarette butts into the toilet. When Masamune showed up at the restaurant in his cleaner clothes, it turned out that the guy was the owner of the restaurant and he mocked Masamune. Aoi got mad and managed to get his restaurant to close. To this they he still cleans toilets in honor of Aoi.
  • One of the Girls: He hangs out with Himari and Ayane as part of the mom friends group.
  • Real Men Cook: He may be a Yakuza boss, but he also bakes delicious cookies and cakes. He even runs his own sweets shop.
  • The Rival: He is friendly rivals with Kantaro, the boss of the Yamanba clan. This started due to their inability to agree on which of their daughters was cuter.
  • Nice Guy: Outside of his work as a Yakuza boss, he is quite friendly and approachable.

     Akira Inuzuka

The kyodai of the group. He is Heiji's boss.
  • Berserk Button: He doesn't like it whenever anyone makes fun of Studio Ghibli films.
  • Butt-Monkey: A few people like to mess with him. From two girls crushing on him, to Sumomo forcing him to pretend to be a baby, him struggling to befriend his boss's daughter, and so on.
  • Eyes Always Shut: He never opens his eyes.
  • Hates Being Nicknamed: He doesn't like it when people call him shortened versions of his name.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He can be very rough, but he's not a bad person.
  • Mistaken for Pedophile: In some stories, he gets subjected to this by Heiji, especially when he's around Mei, Rin, and Sumomo, which ends in him being out for Heiji's blood upon being released.

     Heiji Yakushimora

Inuzuka's subordinate and shatei. He always gets into trouble with Inuzuka.
  • Butt-Monkey: He is a frequent victim of Inuzuka's wrath.
  • Chased Off into the Sunset: He is always on the receiving end of this at the end of the episodes featuring him and Inuzuka; the latter chases him down for pissing him off.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He may be scared of Inuzuka, but he is in the gang for a reason and if anyone crosses the gang, he can get brutal.
  • Made of Iron: Even if Inuzuka manages to get ahold of and punish him as he sees fit, he always survives unscathed, especially being thrown to the sea.

     Mei Satsuki/Kigetsu/Kisaragi

Masamune's daughter. Good friends with Sumomo and Rin... and Leon.
  • Actual Pacifist: She is opposed to violence as this has led to her not having friends due to her father being in a violent profession. Though in later episodes she is more willing to use violent methods as a means to an end.
  • Just a Kid: Mei really hates being treated like a child.
  • Mafia Princess: She is Masamune's daughter who is the Uwasa gang boss. She has been called Princess by Inuzuka a few times.
  • Missing Mom: Her mother passed away from an illness when she was young.
  • Nice Girl: She is the nicest of the three little girls.

     Ryu

The junior head of the Uwasa gang.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Like Inuzuka, he's tough but he has a softer side.
  • Prone to Vomiting: He has severe motion sickness, and would often vomit when riding vehicles, or even playing racing video games... much to the dismay of anyone who is next to him.

     Kanta

The lowest ranking member of the Uwasa Gang.
  • Dumb Muscle: He is a muscular guy, but he is quite dimwitted.
  • Nice Guy: Considering that he is in the yakuza, he is probably the nicest guy in the gang.
  • Parental Abandonment: He was abandoned by his mother because she finds him annoying. Fortunately Aoi and Masamune took him in.
  • Strong, but Unskilled: He built a lot of muscle in high school and was quite good at beating up salarymen, but when he tried to beat up Inuzuka, he was able to defeat Kanta due to the latter being part of the yakuza and having better fighting skills. He got better when he joined the Uwasa gang though.
  • Super Gullible: He can be easily be fooled by others.

Yamanba Yakuza

     General 
  • Neighbourhood-Friendly Gangsters: Despite their profession, they are some of the most friendliest people and will help anyone in need.
  • The Rival: They are friendly rivals with the Uwasa Gang and will team up when the need arises.

     Kantaro 
The leader of the group and Amane's father. He is rivals with the Uwasa Yakuza boss Masamune.
  • Enemy Mine: He and Masamune worked together to punish a sushi chef when he tried to overcharge them.
  • The Rival: He is friendly rivals with Masamune, due to an argument about which of their daughters is cuter.

     Amane 
Kantaro's daughter. Has a huge crush on Inuzuka.
  • Love Triangle: She shares her crush on Inuzuka with Yuria.
  • Mafia Princess: She is the daughter of the Yamanba gang leader.
  • Nosebleed: She often gets one whenever she is near Inuzuka.

Ugumori Family

A family with a pair of brothers who get into adventures and set up companies.

     General 
  • Only Sane Man: Mamoru and Asuka are the only normal ones in the family.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Asuka and Mamoru play this role for Yujiro and Leon respectively, often making sure the two don't get into too much trouble.

     Leon Ugumori 
Older brother. He is good friends with Rin and Sumomo and is a little eccentric.
  • Aerith and Bob: His name stands out among a cast with Japanese names.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: He is quite nuts, but he is a successful businessman and can find great people for his company.
  • Character Catchphrase: Whenever Mamoru shows up to drag him to a meeting, Leon will often say: "What a drag! Let's go!"
  • Childish Older Sibling: He can sometimes be irresponsible, such as when he ditched a shareholders meeting to play with the girls.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Whenever someone is in trouble or is having problems, Leon will go out of his way to help that person.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: He may be out there, but he's a totally good guy and means well.
  • Excellent Judge of Character: He can tell when someone is being a villain or a total Jerkass just by looking at them. He could also find people who have great potential for jobs in his company.
  • Friend to All Children: Is very good friends with Sumomo, Rin and Mei and often plays with them.
    • This also extends to babies, as one episode has him befriending the main character’s one year old son and helping defend him from a YouTuber that wanted to use him for a dangerous stunt. note 
  • Malaproper: He will often mess up words or expressions with Mamoru usually correcting him.
  • The Nicknamer: Whenever Leon meets someone new, he always refers to them as a nickname, much to their discomfort. They sometimes end up introducing themselves by their nickname.
  • One of the Kids: He regularly plays with Sumomo, Rin, and Mei, who he refers to as a goddess, master, and teacher, respectively.

     Mamoru Ugumori 
Younger brother.
  • Mature Younger Sibling: He is much more responsible than Leon and he always corrects him when he gets something wrong.
  • Straight Man: He always has to look after his crazier older brother and father.

     Asuka Ugumori 
Leon and Mamoru's mother.
  • Good Parents: She raised her sons with love and care and would never give them up for anything.
  • Women Are Wiser: She like her son Mamoru, is wiser than Yujiro and Leon and often gets frustrated with Yujiro's antics.

     Yujiro Ugumori

Leon and Mamoru's father and Asuka's husband. He can be flighty but he is dedicated to his family.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: His odd behavior can embarrass his son Mamoru.
  • Bring Me My Brown Pants: He peed himself while threatening Kana's parents with a gun when they beat her and abandoned her... just proving that the gun he had was REAL.
    Yujiro: I need to go to the baby store to get some diapers.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: He will often say and do the strangest things without provocation. His solutions to his problems are out there, such as when he invented his own language just so Kana would leave him alone.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Leon inherited his traits from him. In one episode, it's implied that he inherited it from his own father.
  • Likes Older Women: He often refers to them as "milfs" or "cougars" and keeps photos of them in a secret album, much to Asuka's chagrin.
  • Manchild: He is a grown man but he will ask for McDonalds toys. He admitted in one episode that he's a child at heart.

Tsubaki Demeaning Corps

A club started by Ami and her friends.

     General 
  • True Companions: They are the best of friends and will do anything for each other.

     Ami 
A blue-haired woman who wants to "demean" Tsubaki.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: Ami makes it her life mission to "demean" Tsubaki and gets mad whenever anyone mistreats her.
  • Personal Dictionary: She personally defines "demean" or similar words as helping someone and making them happy.
  • Tsundere: A non-romantic example. She may want to humiliate Tsubaki, but she truly cares about her even if she wouldn't show it. She gets flustered if anyone even says that they are good friends.

     Tsubaki Kasannoin 
A soft-spoken brown-haired woman.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Tsubaki may seem like a nice approachable girl, but even she has her limits and won't hesitate to stand up for anyone if the situation calls for it.
  • Extreme Doormat: She has a hard time saying no to others.
  • Nice Girl: In all of the stories featuring her.
  • Spoiled Sweet: She is often a CEO's daughter and is one of the kindest people in Uwasa City.

     Koharu 
A red-haired girl who hangs out with Ami and Tsubaki.
  • Butt-Monkey: Ironically, Koharu suffers more than Tsubaki even if the group is meant to "demean" her.
  • Embarrassing Nick Name: Ami gave her the nickname Sussu, much to her dismay.
  • Missing Mom: Her mother died, and she only lives with her father.
  • Verbal Tic: She often adds Tsu at the end of sentences in the Japanese version. This is mostly ignored by translators, but she does add -y at the end of sentences in a few stories.

Ushioni/Gyuki Gang

     General 
  • Alternate Character Reading: The stories alternate between Ushioni and Gyuki. This is because the kanji for their name, 牛鬼 can be read either way.

     Asahi 
The heir to the gang.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He may be nice, but come between him and his friends and he will end you.
  • Geek: He is friends with Hiroto, a geek and they often share the same interests such as anime.
  • Identical Stranger: Asahi strongly resembles Mamoru. In one episode, Hiroto actually mistook Mamoru for him.

     Milf 
A green-haired delinquent who is part of the group. He is the second in-command next to Asahi.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: He says and does strange things such as asking for dog food. He even once thought he was pregnant when in fact he was just grounded by Okiku.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Everybody calls him Milf and his real name is unknown.

     Okiku 
Asahi's mother. She is the matriarch of the Gyuki gang and is obsessed with ruling the mob world.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She may disagree with Asahi about running the gang, but she won't tolerate anyone who insults him.
  • Obnoxious In-Laws: She became one to Asahi's wife Yuria, forcing her to do all the housework. Yuria got back at her however by charging her for the housework.

Uwasa Police

     Officer Satoru

A beat cop who helps out around town. Denies being friends with the main characters.
  • Friendship Denial: He will often deny that he is excited to see his friends, whenever he is called to deal with their problems.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: He is good friends with Sumomo, Rin and Mei.
  • Police Are Useless: Averted. He is usually an effective police officer and he does arrest the antagonists for their crimes if the yakuza gangs didn't get them first.

     Soichiro Kitahara 
The senior police commissioner of Uwasa City.
  • Da Chief: He often gets frustrated with Satoru's antics.
  • Papa Wolf: When his daughter got run over, Soichiro moved heaven and earth to find out who did it.

Other Recurring Characters

     Nagisa

A strong girl who is friends with Miyako. She sometimes works as a nurse.
  • Berserk Button: She hates being called a mountain gorilla and won't hesitate to beat up whoever does it.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: She looks like an ordinary girl, but she harbors superhuman strength. One episode reveals in the end that she slips protein powder onto her drinks.
  • Does Not Know Her Own Strength: Nagisa, despite professing herself as a weak girl, is quite strong. She once broke Miyako's arm when she hugged her quite tightly.
  • In-Series Nickname: She has been called a "mountain gorilla" in episodes featuring her, especially from Miyako. Not that she likes it.
  • I Know Karate: She learned judo with Haruto as her instructor.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Whenever someone wants Nagisa to do something, they promise her a "knight in shining armor". However, once she finds out they tricked her...
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: She seeks to marry her "knight in shining armor" despite her superhuman strength.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: She is the Girly Girl to Miyako's Tomboy.

     Miyako Tomaru

A tomboyish girl who is obsessed with baseball.
  • Office Lady: Some episodes have her working in a office.
  • Passionate Sports Girl: She takes being a Shiants/Giants/Jiants fan very seriously and will never miss a game.
  • The Stoic: Aside from baseball, Miyako doesn't express much emotion. In one episode, she can't even cry.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: She is the Tomboy to Nagisa's Girly Girl.

     Jo 
A boy who grows up to marry Rin.
  • Happily Married: As an adult, he is often happily married with Rin.
  • Multiple-Choice Past: His childhood differs from episode to episode. One had him end up with Abusive Parents and another episode had him have a single mother who struggles to provide for him.

     Sho Hatakeyama 
A teacher at Uwasa High who has to cope with his class's wild antics.
  • Butt-Monkey: He often suffers as a result of his students' antics.
  • Stern Teacher: He is a bit hard on his students regarding their antics but he truly cares about them.

     Yuria 
A woman who has a crush on Inuzuka. She usually works as a clerk at a store.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She may appear harmless, but she can stand up and beat up people if they rub her the wrong way.
  • Love Triangle: She crushes on Inuzuka along with Amane, which is often the source of their conflicts.
  • Nosebleed: She gets this reaction, whenever she is near Inuzuka.

     Gorou/Misako 
A federal judge and Koharu's father/mother. He started identifying as Koharu's mother when her mother died.
  • Crusading Lawyer: He will always seek the truth and can overrule any jury as a judge with his amazing analytical skills.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: He became more feminine to fill in the role of Koharu's mother after she died even going as far as to adopt the name Misako.
  • Papa Wolf: Anyone that messes with Koharu will be sure to get a guilty verdict.

     Yasuji "Tomiko" Tomizawa 
A former wrestler who runs a gay bar. She is in love with Heiji.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: To Heiji. He dreads working at her gay bar because of her attempts to get with him.

     Hanako 
Leon and Mamoru's secretary.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: One episode reveals that the reason she is so loyal to the Ugumori brothers (especially Leon) is because Leon defended her from bullies when they were children.
  • Girl Friday: She is loyal to the Ugumori Brothers particularly Leon and is dedicated to being their secretary.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: She has feelings for Leon, who despite acting like a goof, is an all around Nice Guy.
  • Uptight Loves Wild: She is a diligent and serious secretary, who is secretly in love with Leon of all people.

     Harue
