U.A. High School

Class 1-A

    General

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: In this story, more focus is given to character’s various insecurities, clashing personalities, and the stress of being attacked by villains with Hikigaya being stabbed in the chest by one, even before the USJ attack. This all leads to the entire 1-A class being more serious than canon. Lampshaded by Hound Dog, who notes the entire Class is emitting stress pheromones.
  • Designated Parents: Somehow, Hachiman begrudgingly becomes the Team Dad with Yaoyorozu's Team Mom. Best shown when the two separate to organize the bus trip to the USJ—Yaoyorozu easily organizes all of the girls into a line, while Hachiman "delegates" rounding up the boys to Iida and only steps in when the latter becomes too overzealous about bus-seating.
  • Doom Magnet: On the day they elect a class president, said class-president is stabbed in the chest by a villain and nearly dies; the very next day, they are trapped in the USJ and attacked by the League of Villains; they incur the ire of basically every class in the school due to their actions in the Sports Festival; three members of the class recently had to defend themselves against a superpowered serial killer. It will only get worse from here.
  • Spotlight-Stealing Squad: The rest of the school begins to view them as elitist glory-hogs, especially after the Sports Festival.
  • Wacky Homeroom: It wouldn't be 1-A if they weren't. Though, this time they include two cynical introverts, a Plucky Girl, a Lovable Jock, a Gadfly, and a Keet.

Characters from My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong As I Expected

Hachiman Hikigaya — Myriad (AKA Casanova)
  • Ability Mixing: Just like All For One, Hikigaya's is able to do this to impressive effect, although it requires the combined usage of two other power copying Quirks he got from the Sludge Villain and Monoma, and he's limited to only three other Quirks at a time.
  • Accidental Pervert: As with his canon self, he has a few big moments that he fears he'll never live down.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: This cynical introverted teenager managed to do what the greatest evil mastermind in Japan never could — he stole One For All. Alright, he wasn't able to copy the Quirk at its full potential, but still.
  • Achilles' Heel:
    • Two of his most essential combined Quirks, "Ooze" and "Mime", which allows him to utilize three more Quirks, gives him body dysmorphia that causes him to be ill much like Uraraka's overuse of her Quirk; using too many Transformation Quirks also causes the same. Downplayed by his using his sister's Quirk to mitigate the effects.
    • Another more subtle example is that having 108 Quirks, also has the potential of having 108 physical side effects which can lead to health problems. By the time of the Sports Festival, Hikigaya has used muscle building Quirks and Super Regeneration to the point he has very little fat deposits, and passes out mid-match due to malnutrition.
  • All Men Are Perverts: Downplayed, but Hachiman has a noticeable case of wandering eye. Especially around buxom women like Yuigahama and Haruno.
  • Ambiguously Bi: As in canon, Hikigaya is clearly attracted to women and indulges in Eating the Eye Candy whenever he can, but he becomes noticeably more flustered when he's around Totsuka (though that's probably more of a If It's You, It's OK case).
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: His Quirk immediately reads any power he encounters, listing the advantages and drawbacks. As Yaoyorozu points out, this gives him a huge tactical advantage.
  • Awesome Ego: Normally, the kid has self-esteem levels somewhere in negatives—he doesn’t think much of himself and considers his various accomplishments invalid on principle. However, any implication that he’s being looked down on is intolerable to him, and it’s pushed him into performing staggering acts of bravery, heroism, ingenuity, and determination.
  • Beady-Eyed Loser: Subverted. He may have "dead fish-eyes," but it didn't take long for Hachiman to become popular
  • Beneath the Mask: He quickly becomes president and leader of the all-star class in one of the world's most prestigious hero schools and becomes The Paragon to his classmates, with many people pegging him as ideal pro-hero material already. Privately, Hachiman is just making it up as he goes along; he has little initiative, no self-confidence and is just barely scraping by on his overtaxed near-useless power.
  • Berserk Button: Looking down on him is the surest way to piss him off. The idea that someone like Orimoto would write him off was so infuriating that it inspired him to go through with the U.A. entrance exam. He almost yells at Yaoyorozu when she offers to help him study, which he interprets as pity.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Because their parents are rarely around, Hachiman had to step up and look after his Komachi in their absence, which extended into a general sense of responsibility. This instinct is so strong that he ends up forming this dynamic with a few members of his class (especially Midoriya), offering helpful advice whenever he can.
  • Broken Ace: While almost everyone else in Class 1-A views Hikigaya Hachiman as The Ace and The Paragon, he's got a lot of problems that are apparent to anyone observant enough to notice. He's been bullied throughout middle school due to his weak Quirk and asocial nature, his Only Friend, Yoshiteru Zaimokuza, was kidnapped and potentially killed by the League of Villains without him noticing until far too late, and he has to spend almost triple the amount of time training as the rest of his classmates just to not be left behind. This has left Hachiman with an inability to perceive the affection and goodwill others feel towards him, an astonishing amount of self-loathing, and a deep-seated inferiority complex that he just can't seem to shake.
  • Butterface: His training granted him a heck of a Heroic Build, as proven by everyone blatantly Eating the Eye Candy when he loses his shirt in the Sports Festival, but he's stuck with "dead fish-eyes". Aizawa blatantly calls him ugly, and even Yui — a Nice Girl who's more than a bit in love with Hachiman — struggles to give them a positive description. This may, however, simply be a case of Hachiman having an ugly expression rather than unpleasant facial features as per canon, and this certainly doesn't stop him from becoming a memetic chick magnet.
  • Byronic Hero: Hachiman fits this trope even more than he did in the original series. He's very attractive thanks to his Heroic Build, considered extremely charismatic by his classmates, is intelligent, emotionally conflicted, introspective, extremely morally driven to right wrongs, and cynical while still being incredibly motivated to accomplish his goals. Hachiman's pessimism and self-loathing are so deeply ingrained within his mind that he cannot see his classmates genuinely admire him as the best amongst them, and even if he did, he considers himself a "cheater" and therefore not worthy of praise.
  • Can't Catch Up: He genuinely fears this, especially after the Sports Festival forced him to use up Quirk stocks that took months for him to build up. While the rest of the class will only get stronger from stressing their Quirks, Hikigaya feels he already maxed out his power levels and will be left behind (and possibly expelled). He gets a sliver of hope when Cyberpunch is able to help him figure out how to properly stress his Quirk, which could open up new avenues to enhance his Quirk stocks.
  • Cast from Hit Points: After he faints during the sports festival, Recovery Girl discovers that Hachiman's overuse of his myriad of copied quirks has pushed his body to the brink of exhaustion; he's dangerously underweight, has multiple vitamin deficiencies, and severely sleep-deprived. The real problem comes from the fact that this is the only way he can keep up with his class, so he has to find some kind of equilibrium soon, or he'll be expelled from U.A. for health reasons.
  • Category Traitor: Hachiman has managed to become one of the biggest Riajuus in Japan. He is still in denial about it even after Shinso and Mineta angrily spelled it out to him.
  • Celibate Hero: Admits to Kawasaki that after the Orimoto confession fiasco, he completely swore off pursuing relationships with other women since he was deeply scarred by the event.
  • Combat and Support: This is shown to be Hikigaya's true strength as a Hero. While most Heroes only fill a certain niche, the sheer versatility of his power allows him to take up whatever role is needed, especially in any team he finds himself balancing their combat ability.
  • Conspiracy Theorist: Not as bad as most examples. In trying to puzzle out who left the death threats for Haruno and why, Hachiman demonstrates he's not quite a detective yet. Most of his theories are possible but rely heavily on Bat Deduction and his pessimism in believing the worst in people’s intent. Fortunately, Cyberpunch—who finds his ideas more amusing than anything else—gently takes the wind out of his sails with some applications of Occam's Razor after cutting away the red herrings. Though given his inexperience, and the fact that the USJ and Hosu attacks were orchestrated by a shadowy mastermind, this is rather justified. It shows that despite his intelligence, he's got a long way to go before he can call himself a detective.
  • Covered with Scars: His copy of Zaimokuza's Regeneration isn't perfect, so it leaves behind scar tissue. He currently has a scar on his chest from where Himiko Toga stabbed him, a notch on his ear from when Stain threw a knife at his face, and on his hands from Stain's katana slicing them open.
  • The Cynic: He thinks the entire hero culture is just a big society-wide scam and that either the heroes are altruistic people who've been conned into using their gifts for basically nothing in return or attention whores that derive their satisfaction from their legions of fans.
  • Deconstructed Character Archetype: Of the Stock Light-Novel Hero. Hachiman follows the path of the Light-Novel Hero to a T, but fails in one critical aspect of it — he works hard for it. He has the image of a stupefyingly powerful, unflappable, Genius Bruiser, Chick Magnet, Ideal Hero, but the truth is that his greatest attribute is how he uses his admittedly higher-than-average intelligence to cheat his rare information-gathering copy-Quirk to make it look like he has an A-list power. Beyond that, he's usually too scared out of his mind to panic in stressful situations, his growing Unwanted Harem is filled with girls who're just projecting onto his stoic demeanor, his Deadpan Snarker sense of humor is born from the cynicism he developed in response to the relentless bullying he received growing up, his 'power acquisition' is a vital necessity to keep his position in school (most of which he gathers without the donor's permission), and while he has a strong moral compass, he's not above manipulating everyone around him to get what he wants.
  • Default to Good: One of his more positive attributes, and the one that truly got him a spot in U.A., is that when the moment comes, Hachiman will completely forgo his pragmatic mindset and risk it all to do what is right. Best shown when he leaps into the path of a car to rescue a stranger's dog, or when he throws himself between a homicidal serial killer and the intended victim.
  • The Determinator: Many people, even canon determinators like Midoriya and Bakugo, are impressed by Hikigaya's seemingly endless drive to succeed and overcome any obstacle in his way. Little do they know his entire reason to apply to U.A. was spite, and his drive to improve comes from his fear that people there will discover him for the fraud he thinks he is and kick him out.
  • Distressed Dude: Hachiman ends up also getting held hostage by the Sludge Villain right along with Bakugo. Hilariously, he’s almost completely overlooked by everyone afterward, even not being immediately recognized by Bakugo and Midoriya when they meet again in UA.
  • Effective Knockoff: According to Word of God, this is what his actual Quirk is—he doesn't really copy other people's Quirks but rather creates an emulation of them at 1/108th of its power. So the copy is essentially his own Quirk that's simply taking on a different function. Very different from other copy-Quirks, like say, Monoma's.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: The Internet gives him the memetic hero name "Casanova" after his incident during the Sports Festival, and Midnight even advises him to adopt it as his official hero name - shortened to "Nova" - since it will likely stick.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Amusingly, he comes to the same conclusion as Todoroki in believing All Might and Midoriya are father and son thanks to his analysis that they both have the exact same Quirk, despite knowing One For All can be transferred to anyone through the user's DNA. This is mainly because he assumes All Might still possesses his rather than running off the lingering embers, plus the fact he can't immediately think of a non-erotic way to transfer DNA between them.
  • Ear Notch: A piece of his ear was cut off in his fight with Stain, and his regeneration quirk couldn't grow it back. Unlike most examples, this doesn't denote a personality trait, only showing he's Covered with Scars.
  • "Fawlty Towers" Plot: How Hachiman sees his entire career as a hero in training.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Hachiman has one hell of an impostor syndrome. From his perspective, he's just a spiteful kid that managed to BS his way into the most prestigious Hero Academy in the country just to naysay those who never believed in him and who somehow keeps on making undeserved good impressions despite all he has going for him is the creative and often harebrained applications of his cheap knockoffs of other people's Quirks. However, if you go for what he actually does and says, he's exactly the kind of Leader this version of Class 1-A needs.
  • Instant Expert: Perhaps the most amazing aspect of Hachiman's Quirk isn't his ability to copy powers but rather the extremely detailed information he receives on every Quirk he copies. Given only a minute to dissect the nature of a Quirk, he will often have a complete understanding of the nature of the ability than the Quirk's original owner and can advise them on better ways to use it, sometimes vastly improving their combat capabilities. This has also helped him numerous times in battle as he has been able to quickly discover the hidden weaknesses of an opponent's fighting style and use them to his advantage.
  • Jack of All Trades: After Hachiman copied All Might's Stockpile power, this is what his previously near-useless quirk became. Now that he can charge up his stock of copied quirks to where they begin to be useful, he doesn't really excel at any of his copies. Still, he doesn't need to — he has so many of them that he has a shockingly vast arsenal at his disposal, and it's almost impossible to predict what he will do next.
  • The Leader: Hikigaya Hachiman is a Mastermind variant to the rest of Class 1-A. His ability to create detailed plans and analyses given enough prep time, as well as his talent for improvising and adapting on the fly, combined with his extremely useful skills and the details his Quirk provides him on the nature of his opponent's abilities, has led Class 1-A to great success on multiple occasions. He is, however, lacking in the charismatic aspects of leadership, adamantly refusing to build bridges or foster camaraderie between classmates. This is partly because he's used to being an outcast, so he doesn't possess the social skills to put himself in the position, and because his low self-esteem makes him think it's not his place to intervene. This has caused resentment and division to mount in the class, especially towards Todoroki and those who participated in his Cavalry Betrayal.
  • Master of None: This is what Hachiman's Quirk effectively made him before his encounter with the sludge villain and All Might. He had an incredible range of powers to choose from, but the number of abilities at his disposal was effectively useless when the strength of each copy was so small.
  • Meaningful Name: His name contains the character for "eight", linking him to One For All's torchbearers who have numerical names. The fact he's sharing the eighth place with All Might hints at the fact that he's not the true successor to the Quirk while also indicating that his fractional copy was gained from the eighth torchbearer.
  • Mr. Fanservice: An unwilling example. As part of his Plague of Good Fortune, his shirt is damaged during the cavalry section of the sports festival, so millions of people see his impressive Heroic Build as he kisses Toru's hand, sparking the infamous #PresidentialTreatment.
  • Mundane Utility: Several of his most used Quirks are dedicated to that — cooking, good sleep, even changing the channel on the TV without leaving the couch.
  • My Greatest Failure: Hachiman regrets losing contact with Zaimokuza after entering high school and never thanking him for letting him copy his Healing Factor Quirk, especially after learning that Zaimokuza went missing and likely died without Hachiman finding out until it was too late. This is the reason why he goes out of his way to be nice to Saki Kawasaki, who similarly (if unwittingly) provided him with a Quirk essential to his heroic lifestyle, and why Hachiman is so determined to do everything he can to earn a spot on Hiratsuka's team as they investigate Zaimokuza's disappearance.
  • My Sister Is Off-Limits: Hachiman gets a mild case of this when he hears Komachi's been hanging out with a boy, and he starts mentally wondering if he should stock up on bug spray for whatever "cockroach" thinks he's good enough for his little sister. He calms down when he meets the boy in question - Taishi Kawasaki - and learns what he wants ... but keeps the bug spray idea for later.
  • Mystical 108: His 108 Skills certainly falls into this as an actually extremely rare and unique Power Copying ability that managed to mimic the baseline power of One for All.
  • Power Copying: 108 Skills allows Hikigaya to copy up to 108 different Quirks from anyone he touches at the cost of each of his copies being only 1/108th as powerful as the original. It's considered a party trick-level Quirk until Hachiman gets Stockpile and Ooze, the former allowing him to boost his copies, Vancian Magic style, and the latter to combine the effects of two (later on three) given Quirks.
  • The Power of Hate: Why did an inveterate cynic like Hachiman, someone who thought Pro Heroes are merely Glory Seeker winners of the Superpower Lottery, even apply to the most renowned Hero Academy in Japan? The answer is spite. When Hachiman was less of the misanthrope he is today, he wrote in a school survey that he wanted to enter U.A. High's heroics program because his crush at the time, Orimoto, wanted to go there. Later on, during their third year of middle school, their vice-principal summoned the two of them to his office to ask them about it, and just as Hachiman was about to go back on his words on the paper, he noticed the carefully hidden contemptuous sneer on the face of the girl that rejected his Love Confession and then mocked him for it while making herself look good in the process. Spiteful, and recognizing that he had a chance to do better than she could at the entrance exam after copying Stockpile and the Ooze Quirk, he decided to apply to U.A. just for the opportunity to rub that possibility in her "stupidly pretty" face.
    • This is also his main reason to stay at U.A. after he discovers that the Nomu the League of Villains built to kill All Might was Yoshiteru Zaimokuza, giving Haichman a burning desire for revenge on the monsters that turned his only friend into a mindless killing machine.
  • The Profiler: Hachiman as in canon. His profiling of All For One based just on the rationale behind the combination of Quirks present on the Noumu that attacked the USJ, labeling the one responsible as an utterly vile bastard for even coming up with something like that, was so spot on that Hiratsuka lost most of her reluctance to let Hachiman help her with the investigation.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: When Hachiman tested the new limits of his powers after copying Stockpile, he screamed in pain after injuring his legs from jumping high enough to stand on a basketball hoop. After healing himself up, a police officer appeared and asked him about a report of someone, "probably a woman or a small child," screaming in the area.
    • During the USJ Invasion, when Kurogiri teleports him hundreds of feet in the air over a forest fire, he lets out a "very manly" scream of terror.
  • Superpower Lottery: Other people think he's won it. He thinks his quirk is barely useable and he has to spend endless effort making it something that can pass as a heroic quirk.
  • Triple Shifter: Hikigaya maintains his grades, trains his Quirk, acts as 1-As class-president/leader, is a superhero-in-training, and is now doing research on behalf of the police. It all catches up to him quickly.
  • Unluckily Lucky: Thy name is Hikigaya Hachiman. Basically, from the moment Hikigaya gets nearly killed by the Sludge Villain, which allows him to copy One For All to make his previously useless Quirk useful, Hikigaya has been on a trajectory of villain attacks that he not only survives but sees him continue to gain in status both with his classmates and the general public. The major one being recorded on video during Stain's attack on Haruno, and his contributing to the serial killer's capture. The problem is that it all comes with a boatload of trauma and hard work that no one would be envious of.
  • Urban Legend Love Life: He is given the memetic hero-name "Casanova" because of the stunt he pulled during the Sports Festival. While he eventually chooses "Myriad" as his hero-name, the joke has so far colored his reputation as a heartbreaking ladies-man in the making. Then comes the Hosu Charity Ball where he dances with Manaka, Hiru Setsuna, Haruno Yukinoshita, and Shizuka Hiratsuka, and ends up getting publically slapped by Manaka, all in one night. Asui even says that it's just going to reinforce the perception of him as a card-carrying tomcat on the prowl. Much to his chagrin.
  • Vancian Magic: How Hachiman's Quirk works after getting Stockpile. He has to spend a few hours each day to boost any of his other copied Quirks to get from 1/108th of their original power to around 10% of their original potency for each of them to even start getting useful, which gives him a limited number of boosted usages afterward. Once that number is spent, he has to repeat the ritual to charge them. Also, boosting past the 10% mark is possible, but it takes exponentially longer prep times to produce each subsequent 10% increment.
  • Weak, but Skilled: As his Quirk heavily reduces his stolen powers' firepower, it forces him to fight smart.
  • What You Are in the Dark: The reason why he almost flubbed the entrance exam for the academy — he had rescued a dog from getting run over by a car and went on taking the trial on a broken leg instead of throwing in the towel. When they learn this little tidbit, the judges — Aizawa and All Might leading the charge — decide Hachiman has his heart in the right place and enough Heroic Willpower to deserve a chance in spite of his vitriolic opinions regarding the Hero system.
  • Worf Had the Flu: After Hikigaya loses his match against Bakugo due to passing out, Recovery Girl reveals his Regeneration Quirk and muscle-building regime has been sapping his fat reserves to the point he was malnourished during the whole Tournament.
  • Worthy Opponent: He's seen as this by most students, especially by Midoriya, Todoroki, and Bakugo.

    Yukino Yukinoshita — Inverna
  • A-Cup Angst: Downplayed. In her P.O.V. chapter, she mentally refers to Yaoyorozu as the girl with "the big ponytail and the huge... ponytail," and when Bakugo compares her to a wall because they're both "hard" and "flat", it notably gets under her skin.
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Sharing this with her canon-self, she has long black hair, is The Stoic (but not so much as she looks), and is repeatedly described as beautiful.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: She was ostracized by her peers when her lack of control over her powerful Quirk hurt a fellow student. As a result, her HEART group (especially Yui) were the first set of friends she's had since her Quirk kicked in.
  • Always Second Best: Yukino has evidently lived in her older sister's shadow her whole life and has resolved to eventually outshine her. She's so dead-set on this goal that she will sacrifice her budding friendships to achieve it (even if doing so breaks her heart).
  • Ambiguously Bi: When she meets Komi Shouko, Yukinoshita becomes uncharacteristically nervous around her, very reminiscent of how Hikigaya acted around Totsuka.
  • Birds of a Feather: With Hachiman. Though neither of them would ever admit it.
  • Blessed with Suck: How she sees her Quirk. When she was young, a classmate accidentally snuck up on her, so in Yukino's shock, she drained all of the heat from the unfortunate girl's arm, flash-freezing it. She's been terrified of losing control of her Quirk ever since.
  • Broken Ace: Her quirk is extremely versatile, and combined with her natural aptitude for strategic and tactical thinking and training in Aikido, she makes for a near-unstoppable opponent. The only thing holding her back is her fear of losing control and seriously hurting people.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: In keeping with her beliefs that a hero helps the helpless, she prioritizes helping whenever she can, even if that means getting a cat out of a tree.
  • Hates Being Touched: Notably avoids Present Mic's attempt to pat her on the head, and in her POV omake idly complains about Yuigahama's lack of personal space sense.
  • An Ice Person: She draws heat from her surroundings to produce frost, snow, and chilling winds, as well as turn that heat into kinetic energy for added strength. The downside is all that heat can cause her body temperature to rise to dangerous levels.
  • The Idealist: In contrast to Hachiman, Yukino does believe in the ideal of heroism—specifically swooping in and rescuing innocent people, rather than fighting villains or doing it for publicity. This is why she aims to be a Rescue Hero.
  • Introverted Cat Person: Yukino is a self-admitted introvert, and she has a massive soft spot for cats. She's apparently had one her whole life and can get rather overzealous with them. She actually tries to save a stray cat stuck in a tree, and her POV shows she can’t help but internally note how adorable the feline is even as it swipes her hand away. At some point, Yui figured out how much Yukino loves cats and started sending her videos involving kittens.
  • Meaningful Name: Yuki means "snow", and she's An Ice Person with a very aloof demeanor.
  • Personality Powers: You might say she's literally an Ice Queen.
  • Related in the Adaptation: It's revealed in later chapters that the Yukinoshita family is related to the Todoroki. Specifically, Shoto and the Yukinoshita sisters are cousins.
  • Ship Tease: With Hachiman, obviously, and with, of all people, Bakugo. Their fight in the Sports Festival ends with Bakugo pinning Yukino down, both panting and sweating, and practically kissing. The fact that he afterward vehemently refuses to blame her for giving him frostbite also helps.
  • Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!: On the receiving end of this from Haruno, who very bluntly spells out to her young sister that the business and celebrity side of the hero industry trumps the crime-fighting aspect of it. Saving people actually accomplish less than simply putting up big billboards of a pro and saying to any potential criminals, "go somewhere else." Even then, endorsement deals help fund agencies and sidekicks, which also cuts down crime rates significantly. Yukino tries to pull a Shut Up, Hannibal!, but her sister's cynicism is hard to ignore (especially when Haruno starts convincing her that Hachiman is secretly a Social Climber Manipulative Bastard).
  • Superpowerful Genetics: She's Todoroki Shouto's maternal cousin, and both of them are gifted with cryokinetic abilities.
  • Troll: As seen in her canon-omake, she greatly enjoys coming up with insults and taunts for Hikigaya as he proves to be more than capable of keeping up with her in their Snark-to-Snark Combat. It's this reason she voted for Hachiman—the look of utter shock and horror over being elected was priceless to her
  • Well, Excuse Me, Princess!: Yukino is from a very affluent family and received a lavish upbringing, while Hachiman is from a middle-class family of chronic workaholics. Yukino criticizes and questions basically everything he does while he snarks back in retaliation. She also has this dynamic with Bakugo, unsurprisingly, who gives her the nickname "Ice Queen" and constantly pushes her buttons.

    Yui Yuigahama — Tapestry
  • Book Dumb: It's noted that her grades are abysmal, worse than Hikigaya's (who is struggling himself with being the Triple Shifter). She begs Yukinashita and Yaoyorozu for help in studying.
  • Broken Ace: Yui actually has a powerful and versatile Quirk as well as the people-pleasing personality to match, which should make her ideal Pro-Hero material. However, she hasn't gotten over the loss of her father, and her background as a receiver of Sagami's thinly-veiled put-downs has left her with depression and low self-esteem.
  • Clothing Combat: Yui Yuigahama's Quirk, Cloth Armor, allows her to telekinetically control and strengthen fabric within a few centimeters of her skin. It allows her to use her clothes as a Instant Powered Armor of sorts and move about very quickly by using bandage-like fabric wrapped around her feet that she manipulates into makeshift spring boots to give herself superhuman speed and In a Single Bound capabilities. As her power works the best on fabric that directly touches her skin, her Hero Costume has to be both form-fitting and cover most of her body to get the most bang out of her buck.
  • Cuddle Bug: Yui really likes hugging people and other kinds of physical affection, much to Yukinashita's chagrin.
    Yuigahama: "You're so cool, Yukinon!"
[proceeds to wrap her in a big hug]
    Yukinashita: "Personal space, please!"
  • Embarrassing but Empowering Outfit: Yuigahama's power to manipulate fabric loses all effect a few centimeters away from her skin, so the only way she can use her Quirk to give herself a Powered Armor of sorts is by wearing a skintight Hero Costume. Specifically, she picked one resembling a full-body bikersuit. When she gets an internship with Best Jeanist, he immediately changes her costume to look more like a Magical Girl, complete with ribbons and ruffles. Bakugo says it makes her look like a fabric store threw up on her.
  • The Heart: As with her canon-self, she's the most genuinely friendly person in her class and tries to help everyone, even Bakugo (who even she internally admits is a jerk). She even sticks up for Todoroki when people start bad-mouthing him after his Cavalry Betrayal.
  • Hero-Worshipper: It's revealed that she never wanted to be a hero at all and was peer-pressured into it. However, on the day of the entrance exam, a brave boy got hit by a car saving her dog, never asked for a reward for his help, and disappeared without even giving his name. She decided then and there that he was the "true hero" she wanted to be. When she later learned that this same boy passed the U.A. exam on a broken leg it only solidified her opinions.
  • Meaningful Name: "Yui" uses the kanji for "binding," and her Quirk allows her to manipulate thread — something to bind things together.
  • The Nicknamer: As a show of friendship, she gives people close to her nicknames — "Hikki" for Hachiman and "Bakubaku" for Bakugo.
  • Plucky Girl: A near-constant ray of sunshine, even to Bakugo. Though, later chapter show she's still coping with the loss of her father, who died of a heart attack five years prior. She's just putting on a brave face for those around her and herself.

    Hayato Hayama — Hayato
  • Adventurer Outfit: Hayama's Hero costume invokes the Airman look, complete with a bomber jacket, scarf, and aviator helmet.
  • Always Second Best: Unlike his canon counterpart, he's unable to snag The Ace status before Hachiman takes it. He later laments that there's probably no way he can get it back as he sees that what made Hikigaya popular in the first place was blind luck.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: He attributes most of Hikigaya’s status as The Ace with a powerful Quirk, the class president, and being in Yukino’s HEART group to sheer dumb luck. In reality, Hikigaya practiced constantly with his Quirk’s analyzing abilities and constantly puts in hours of work building up his power just to make it useful, his being class president is due to a combination of Aizawa pushing him to participate and people recognizing his heroic actions of saving a dog at the cost of a broken leg (and Yukino messing with him), and according to Word of God, the placement of the HEART groups was made by Principle Nedzu based on what student interactions would entertain him. It would be more accurate to say that Hachiman has rather rotten luck, but he simply finds a way to make it work for himself.
  • Flying Brick: His quirk, "Falcon Flight," allows him to fly when his arms are outstretched with the bonus of making him tougher the faster he goes. However, it's limited to only working in straight directions. Hachiman uses this for an impromptu Fast Ball Special during the USJ invasion.
  • The Leader: Subverted. While he has all of the qualities to make an Ideal Hero and is usually the first to step up to act as a mediator, he failed to make any sort of impact on those around him. On some level, he feels he should've become the source of inspiration for 1-A the way Hachiman did.
  • Nice Guy: Much like canon, Hayama is a nice person, but not nearly as nice as he presents himself to people.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: It's implied much of his popularity before U.A. was due to how his looks, charisma, and Quirk stood out when measured with average people, which also pushed him to become a Hero in the first place. Come UA, and he's among others who are either as nice, smart, good-looking, and powerful as he is, but several that are even more so in some areas; making him the one who struggles to stand out. He also comes to realize his own lack of drive compared to others.
  • The Resenter: While Hayama genuinely likes Hikigaya and holds no ill-will towards him, he still can't help but feel a little frustration for his achievements. In his mind, a lot of Hachiman's successes, such as spotting the U.A. infiltrator, being born with a versatile Power Copy Quirk, and being placed in Yukino's HEART group, have been attained through pure chance, making it virtually impossible for Hayama to ever reach the same levels of popularity that Hachiman has effortlessly attained.
  • Slave to PR: He actually doesn't know why he decided to be a hero beyond that being what was expected of him. He attributes this attitude as to why he hasn't made any headway in U.A.'s social circles because everyone has a goal that's driving them. He concludes that maybe he should also find some noble cause to strive towards ... it's unfortunate that he starts looking at his mentor for inspiration.
  • Treacherous Advisor: Is unfortunate enough to get Slidin' Go as his internship mentor.

    Yumiko Miura — Shooting Star
  • Becoming the Mask: Implied. She may be just as self-centered and arrogant as her canon-counterpart, but because she grew up in a world of heroes, she's attempting to train herself to be more selfless and "heroic."
  • Forest Ranger: Her hero costume invokes a stylish medieval huntress to go with her quirk.
  • Hidden Depths: In a conversation with Kendo, she reveals she's interested in the business side of pro-heroism because she wants to be part of the Effective Altruism movement.
  • Light 'em Up: Her quirk allows her to summon a bow and arrows made of light.
  • Lovable Alpha Bitch: Downplayed. As said above, she lacks many of her more negative qualities from the OreGairu canon and seems far more studious, empathetic, and reasonably confident here. While she did go along with Hachiman's plan to gang up on 1-B, she disapproves of overt "class rivalry" and did genuinely feel bad over how screwed-over they were. This is a far cry from Yumiko's canon self-centeredness.
  • Ojou: She has the beauty, pompous attitude, and riglets to go with it, but that doesn't stop her from wanting to be a hero.

    Kakeru Tobe — Bust-A-Cryme
  • Calling Your Attacks / Animate Inanimate Object: His quirk, called "Motormouth," involves shouting actions at inanimate objects so that they follow his commands, with the strength and force of the movement influenced by his volume (e.g., He can yell at his shoes for extra mobility, talk other peoples' shoelaces together, reroute thrown weapons, and so on), which fits his Keet personality.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: He, along with Kirishima and Bakugo, rush Kurogiri during the USJ invasion.
  • Motor Mouth: He's a chatterbox.
  • Odd Friendship: He expresses a high opinion of Iida after the USJ attack, and this starts the two into becoming friends. Though, they make the mistake of doing this in front of Ebina.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: He was the first to start publically calling out Todoroki's team for betraying Hachiman.

Characters from My Hero Academia

    Katsuki Bakugo — Claymore
  • Adaptational Name Change: Thanks to the HEART group, Bakugo decides to go with the Hero name Claymore instead of his canon Hero name, Dynamight.
  • Always Second Best: To the point, it's almost a Running Gag. Thanks to the story having more capable characters like Hikigaya and Yukino, Bakugo constantly finds himself doing well in various activities but never winning. Best exemplified in the chapter where several UA students visit an Arcade, and Bakugo constantly places high, but always barely loses to someone else in a chosen game. Notably, while not winning still pisses him off, he takes such losses with more grace and even respect as long as it's delivered from anyone other than Midoriya.
  • Chaste Hero: In her POV, Yukinoshita reluctantly concludes that Bakugou is probably the most unperverted member of their HEART group due to his seeming ambivalence towards the opposite sex. In his POV, it's shown that he does find the girls in his class attractive, but he's too laser-focused on his training to care, and he finds most of the women annoying.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Bakugo as always. It makes for a volatile mix with Hachiman and Yukinoshita's knack for Armor-Piercing Response, but they eventually reach a balance of sorts.
  • Hard Work Hardly Works: It's revealed here that this was one of the main reasons he hates Midoriya — from Bakugo's perspective, either he had a quirk all along and was just hiding it, which would make him a liar and a lazy slacker because he never put in any visible effort in improving his quirk; or he really was born quirkless, and just waited for fate to smile on him for the impossible, making him the luckiest son of a bitch in history.
  • The Nicknamer: He calls everybody by some unflattering moniker as a means of demeaning them and so he doesn't have to learn their names. The only exceptions to this rule are Saika and Hikigaya, but only because Saika won a workout bet against him, and he hadn't thought of a good one for the latter. Eventually, he and Hikigaya go on a First-Name Basis entirely. In a bit of irony, he hates that fellow nicknamer, Yui, who has started calling him "Bakubaku."
  • Odd Friendship: He develops one with Hachiman (to the latter's bewilderment, at times). After the latter beats him, Bakugo starts considering the class president as an opponent worthy of respect and actually sticks up for him a few times.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: It's Bakugo.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: What he and Hachiman settle into; Bakugo is still combative and disagreeable as ever, but Hachiman gives as good as he gets in their Snark-to-Snark Combat.

    Momo Yaoyorozu — Creati
  • Aloof Leader, Affable Subordinate: She has this dynamic with Hachiman; he's stoic and generally half-hearted about the goings-on of the class (not too dissimilar to Aizawa), while she's more cheerful and meticulous. Hikigaya himself notes that he ends up "delegating" a lot of the moment-to-moment duties to her (or Iida) due to his apathy and otherwise busy schedule. Beyond that, everyone - including Yaoyorozu - sees him as a natural leader.
  • Broken Ace: Downplayed. Losing to Uraraka at the Sports Festival gives her some self-confidence issues.
  • Innocently Insensitive: It's implied that her casual mentions of her ultra rich life has caused some friction between her and Uraraka.
  • Lonely at the Top: Another source of angst for her. She was born with good looks, a dizzying intellect, a versatile quirk where she has to actually eat fattening foods — like sweets and pastries — for it to function properly, and she's the heiress of a ridiculously rich family. She's essentially a Born Winner... so people can't really empathize with her problems and immediately assume she's humblebragging whenever she earnestly tries to make a social connection by voicing them. She later admits that it's the main reason she prefers to socialize with Hachiman and his HEART group as they don't typically make her feel so ostracized.
  • Never Gets Fat: Complained about having to eat a lot of sweets and pastries to fuel her powers. The female characters who heard this were less than impressed.
  • Number Two: Here, she serves as vice president of Class 1-A behind Hachiman. He tries to give her the position, but she graciously tells him she's "happy" where she is.
  • Paralysis by Analysis: After she loses to Uraraka in the sports festival, she confides in Hachiman that her complex power gives her decision paralysis and envies his seemingly endless drive and quick-thinking with his also Difficult, but Awesome Quirk. He isn't sure how to break it out to her that the only reason he acts as decisive as he does is because he's too often at his wits' end and simply doesn't have another choice other than going for the first idea that comes to mind and hope for the best.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: She displayed a very in-depth understanding of nuclear physics during a discussion. When the rest of the class processed the implications, she awkwardly tried to explain that such knowledge was to make sure she understood the dangers of making nukes. Hikigaya was less than reassured.
  • Ship Tease: Hachiman and Yaoyorozu quickly bond over their similarly unwieldy Quirks and develop something of a rapport. His inadvertent compliments towards her make her blush uncontrollably.
  • Teen Genius: She has to be for her quirk to make any kind of complex machinery. At this point, she's so good at it that when she describes the process of building a motorized scooter to Hachiman, her explanation comes out as gibberish from his perspective. He himself notes that even with an understanding of how her quirk functions, he'd be limited to basic geometric shapes.

    Eijiro Kirishima — Red Riot
  • Demoted to Extra: Slightly. While he and Bakugo are still friends, Hachiman's Friendly Rivalry with the latter (and because Bakugo is in Hachiman's HEART group) creates a stronger bond between them than he does with Kirishima.
  • The Heart: Shares this with Yui. He was one of the few people in his class that didn't shame or bad-mouth Todoroki for his Cavalry Betrayal.
  • Nice Guy: As with his canon self, he tries to be friendly with everyone. He also always makes the effort to check in with Hachiman whenever the class president suffers serious emotional blows.
  • Testosterone Poisoning: Obsessed with "manly" things. He helps get the ball rolling with Hachiman's popularity when he loudly proclaims how "manly" it was for the latter to pass the entrance exam on a broken leg.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Thanks to Hikigaya’s advice, he’s trained his Quirk to the point he’s able to enter a full-body hardened stated similar to his Unbreakable mode with just his normal Quirk usage. Though he still loses to Bakugo during the finals of the Sports Festival, his Quirk has become powerful enough that Bakugo was forced to win by ring out, instead of knock out as in canon.

    Mina Ashido — Pinky
  • Fun Personified: Mina is as outgoing and bubbly as her canon counterpart.
  • Love Freak: As in canon, Ashido has a pronounced fascination with romance. She particularly gushes over how after Todoroki freezes Tsuyu, he melts the ice around her so he can catch her in his arms, bridal style.
  • Shipper on Deck: She teases Bakugo by implying his Snark-to-Snark Combat with Yukinoshita is the makings of a Slap-Slap-Kiss Tsundere relationship. Also, in a semi-canon omake, after Hachiman loses his shirt (again) during his fight with Monoma, all of the girls in 1-A become flustered by his Heroic Build, and Mina encourages Hagakure to pursue him, calling him a "lottery."
  • Ship Tease: Literally. when Ashido gets excited to see Kirishima and Bakugo face off in the sports festival, Miura and Jiro both tease her over her sudden interest in the former.

    Mezo Shoji — Tentacole
  • The Big Guy: Physically the tallest member of 1-A, he also is the horse for Hachiman's cavalry team.
  • Nice Guy: When Shoji accidentally sees old childhood pictures of Hachiman his parents had unfortunately sent to the Hero Costume company, he sees how mortified they made Hachiman, so he tries to reassure him that they're really nothing to be embarrassed about.
"We were all kids once, I understand."
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Gets a little depressed by being among the 1-A members picked last for the Cavalry Battle. Hikigaya points out how his height and strength is a huge advantage that allows him to carry two riders, which the others just weren’t smart enough to realize.

    Toru Hagakure — Invisible Girl
  • Adaptational Badass: As a result of being THE least focused character in canon, the attention she receives in this story allows her to show more of what she's capable, such as helping to capture several headbands during the Calvary Battle, or being able to successfully tag Sir Nighteye during her internship, something neither Midoriya was able to do in canon, nor Mirio was noted to do in this story.
  • Hidden Depths: In a semi-canon omake, it's revealed her extroverted personality is actually just her compensating for her invisibility so people don't forget about her.
  • Memetic Mutation: In-Universe, during the Sports Festival, she went without clothes (at Hachiman's recommendation) to be a stealth rider to steal other headbands. However, she was hit with Ebina's fungus quirk, trapping her arm and necessitating Hachiman to burn it off with Mina's acid quirk (losing his shirt in the process), spraying her arm with soapy water to wash it off, then kissing her hand with Recovery Girl's healing kiss to fix the damage. Thus creating the "Presidential Treatment" hashtag as discussed on the main page.
  • No-Sell: Her invisibility means she's completely immune to Quirks that require eye contact to activate, like Sir Nighteye's Foresight.
  • Ship Tease: After Hachiman kisses her hand, she acts more sociable with him, and gets noticeably upset at the idea that he and Yukinoshita have crushes on each other.
  • Tricked-Out Gloves: It's shown in this story, her notable Hero gloves have the ability to become rigid after she takes them off; serving as a distraction for people to think she's still wearing them, and thus tell where she's located. It let's her trick even Sir Nighteye.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Gets encouraged by Hikigaya after she’s among the last picked during Cavalry Battle team-ups. Hikigaya points out how the others overlooked how having an invisible rider is actually a huge advantage, which cheers her up.

    Shoto Todoroki — Shoto
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: He's still the same Broken Ace as he is in canon, but because Todoroki singles Hachiman out as the real threat - above Bakugo and Midoryia - he misses out on his Odd Friendship with Midoriya and the Epiphany Therapy he would've received from it. Not helping matters was that his Cavalry Betrayal on the widely liked Hachiman during the sports festival soured his status amongst his classmates, making him a pariah.
  • Break the Haughty: Receives a more brutal one than canon. Events make him even more stubborn not to use his fire powers in this story. However, when Stain attacks his cousin, Campestris, he sees Hachiman and Yukino desperately try to fight him off while being dismissed by the serial killer; forcing Todoroki to utilize it. The realization that he endangered everyone simply for his pride, and that he's conceded that his father was right about inevitably needing his left side, hits him pretty hard, but Hachiman encourages him in that he ultimately did the right thing, and that he just has to find another method of pissing off his father.
  • Byronic Hero: Probably more so here due to his Adaptational Angst Upgrade. It's for this reason that he and Hachiman have a relationship of simultaneous understanding and friction.
  • Epiphany Therapy: Similar to his canon self. As noted above, his fight with Stain forces him to see that his obsession with spiting his father ultimately got in the way of being an effective hero and was putting people's lives in danger. He later credits Hachiman for demonstrating the point that heroes often have to "cheat"—sacrificing their personal integrity to fight dirty—if it means saving innocent people. While Hachiman brushes it off, it nonetheless gives Todoroki the inspiration he needs to move forward.
  • Establishing Character Moment: The very first thing he says to Hachiman when they first meet is that he's not allowed to copy his quirk. Things don't get much better between the two from there, at least until after Stain's attack.
  • Hates Being Touched: While his background is definitely to blame, he is extremely insistent that Hachiman, in particular, never touches him as he doesn't want his power copied. He's uncharacteristically furious when Monoma copies his quirk during the cavalry battle, which is what motivates him to perform his Cavalry Betrayal. After Stain's attack, Todoroki very purposefully offers to shake Hachiman's hand, illustrating that he doesn't care about it anymore.
  • No Social Skills: According to Word of God, Todoroki was genuinely sorry about betraying Hachiman, but his lack of social grace meant that he couldn't express it clearly.
  • Not So Stoic: Pretty much all of class 1-A ganging up on him to shame his Cavalry Betrayal caused him to yell at all of them and storm off … only to then cry in the halls by himself.

    Fumikage Tokoyami — Tsukuyomi
  • Achilles' Heel: Extreme light and darkness affect Tokoyami's quirk negatively depending on the situation. Too bright and Dark Shadow is effectively useless, while it becomes ridiculously powerful but hard to control when it's too dark. Hachiman's base form of Dark Shadow attains Fumikage's normal level of mastery at pitch-black conditions.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Mild example. While Tokoyami and Midoriya were on friendly terms in-canon, here he shares a HEART group with him, Uraraka, and Yaoyorozu. As a result, he's closer to Midoriya's circle of friends (Iida and Uraraka). He was closer to Shoji in the original manga because of their heteromorphic Quirks.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Unlike in canon where Tokoyami dominates the Tournament Arc up until he fights Bakugo, he loses in the very first round when pitted against Orimoto Kaori to demonstrate the mastery of her quirk and give Class B a victory.
  • Casting a Shadow: Dark Shadow is his shadow manifested that grows in power when there are no light sources.
  • Chuunibyou: He's as overly dramatic as canon. This actually makes it difficult for Hikigaya to talk to him as Tokoyami reminds him too much of Zaimokuza.
  • Cold Ham: Yuigahama notices that he makes his voice deeper to accentuate his Purple Prose.

    Midoriya Izuku — Deku
  • Always Second Best: He never stopped admiring Bakugo and considering him as much stronger than he'll ever be. Hachiman becoming 1-A's The Ace is taken with some kind of resignation from his part; Hachiman is the Class President, was the MVP for the USJ invasion, seems to know more about One For All than he does, and can effortlessly talk to girls.
  • Adaptational Skill: Thanks to Hikigaya's guidance, has gets more of a hang of One for All, avoiding a lot of his canon injuries. As a result, he doesn't get the internship offer from Gran Torino and instead trains with Mirko, learning a lot of superpowered parkour. When school starts up again, Hikigaya notices that Midoriya's picked up Mirko's style of agility and speed, rather than his canon counterpart's mimicry of Bakugo.
  • Character Development: Thanks to Hachiman's influence, both direct and indirect, Midoriya in this story isn't as preoccupied with figuring out One For All as he is in canon, and is more confronted with all the subtler implications of what replacing the Number 1 Hero in Japan actually means, from his level of drive compared to his classmates to how other Heroes in the country may rely on him even with everyday life issues. None of this dissuades Midoriya, and spurs him to work harder with a more mature outlook.
  • Distressed Dude: Gets briefly captured by the Winged Nomu during the Hosu Attack. He quickly gets rescued by Native.
  • Hero of Another Story: Midoriya is the most important person in the next generation of heroes, but this story is from Hachiman's outside perspective, so he's not privy to that information.
  • Took a Level in Badass: His power development follows much the same arc as canon, but thanks to Hachiman, it happens much more quickly. Thus his performance is much better when compared with canon events like the Sports Festival. This has had, unfortunately, a negative impact on him because he feels he hasn't truly earned any of his accomplishments yet, not helped by Bakugo literally calling him out on it. His internship with Mirko does help in this regard, though.
  • Ship Tease: He's noted to be very close to Uraraka by others.
  • Training from Hell: Gets subjected to this when he takes his internship with Mirko.
  • Wouldn't Hit a Girl: Discussed among Class 1-A during his match with Uraraka, with most noting how his Nice Guy personality makes such a battle difficult for him (except Bakugo, who believes it's a sign of just being a wuss). Midoriya proves them right by never outright striking Uraraka, but proceeds to win by simply grappling her into submission and carrying her out of bounds.
    • Gets zig-zagged with his internship with Mirko. When confronted about the fight, he awkwardly insists it's because Uraraka 'is just a friend,' than due to her gender, and doesn't hold back in their spars. Of course, Mirko being the top-ranked Heroine in the country, also means Midoriya never actually manages to hit her, and has to fight seriously just to make sure he isn't beaten up even worse.

    Tenya Iida — Turbo-Man
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Inverted. Here, Stain never cripples his older brother, so he's spared the heartbreak.
  • Adaptational Name Change: Justified. Since in this story, Stain never cripples his older brother, Tenya doesn't take the hero name "Ingenium" to honor him and settles for "Turbo-Man" instead.
  • The Comically Serious: Just as he is in canon, but since he doesn't get the class president position, he has significantly less authority to get away with it. Hachiman has tried to get him to tone it down, to little avail.
  • Demoted to Extra: His efforts to calm the student panic during the emergency alarm crisis is overshadowed by Hachiman and his HEART group uncovering the villain that caused it. He also doesn't get the position as class president here, and it's Hachiman who gets it and keeps it.
  • Odd Friendship: Starts one with Tobe after the two mutually complement each other, with Tobe admiring his bravery, while Iida commends the other's ability to befriend anyone. Their only mistake is doing this in front of Ebina.

    Ochaco Uraraka — Uravity
  • Adaptation Expansion: During the sports festival, she fights Yaoyorozu instead of Bakugo and wins. Forcing her to fight Midoriya next.
  • Artistic License – Physics: Lampshaded by Hikigaya when he copies and analyzes her Quirk. He notes it’s not exactly reducing an objects gravity to zero, but he lacks the scientific knowledge to properly describe it.
  • Demoted to Extra: Zig-Zagged.
  • Penny Among Diamonds: She's in the same HEART Group as Yaoyorozu, and it's noted that she doesn't like it when the latter brings up how wealthy her family is.
  • Ship Tease: Several people observe her closeness to Izuku. Including Present Mic during a Sports Festival match. Hachiman notes this is like waving red meat to in-universe Hero Shippers.

    Tsuyu Asui — Froppy
  • Cute Bruiser: She's cute in her own odd way, but that doesn't stop her from helping Hachiman during the USJ attack and briefly stealing Monoma's headband during the cavalry battle. She, however, is on the receiving end of a Curb-Stomp Battle against Todoroki that everyone felt was excessive.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She has her moments. Especially when she sees the GIF of Hichman giving Intimate Healing to Hagakure while shirtless (which most of the 1-A girls were teasing him over), she simply looks at him in her ice-induced-hibernative stupor and says, "lewd."
  • Hates Being Nicknamed: Is completely unimpressed by Bakugo calling her Froggy (unsuprisingly) and refuses to help him in the Cavalry Battle until he uses her real name.
  • Minor Living Alone: Tsuyu reveals to Hikigaya that she rents an apartment by herself near the beach, because her family lives in another city far from U.A. She managed to get it cheaply because the beach was covered in junk, but someone picked up every piece of garbage to make it look great again; letting her move in before prices could be raised.
  • The Stoic: Her frog-like face means she lacks the facial expressions that regular people can make, so others have to infer her mood based on how she speaks. She also has Nerves of Steel to go along with it, as demonstrated when she forced Bakugo to call her by her name, and never showed the slightest hint of intimidation from his rage.

    Denki Kaminari — Chargebolt
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Downplayed. Without Mineta in the class to drive their perverted antics, his own behavior is toned down to the point of only being noted to display covert ogling.
  • Nothing Personal: Denki tries to take this position in going along with Todoroki's Cavalry Betrayal and shocking Hachiman. While the latter is mad about it, he concludes it's not worth getting into, so lets it slide. The other member of 1-A don't feel the same way.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: He's mainly used for a few comedy bits to demonstrate his Book Dumb personality.
  • Shock and Awe: Kaminari has the power to discharge electricity, but overdoing it causes him to become a moron in the process.

    Kyoka Jiro — Earphone Jack
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: A minor one. In canon Jiro's Earphone Jack quirk is classified as a Mutant/Heteromorph type Quirk, which Hachiman is explicitly unable to copy. In this story SBK has reclassified it's Super-Hearing ability as an Emitter type to allow Hachiman to posses a version for plot and dialogue purposes, but still can't copy all of Earphone Jack.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Ashido and Jiro spend more time together here, and the former's excited and bubbly nature entertainingly contrasts with the latter's laid-back punk sensibilities.

Class 1-B

    General

  • Always Second Best: More so here than in canon as Hachiman's plan for the Sports Festival means that at least two of the students got any internship offers.
  • Deliberate Under-Performance: Zigzagged. Because of the USJ Incident, 1-B planned to lag behind in the first even of the Sports Festival to properly gauge 1-A's quirks, and use that information to team up and crush them in Cavalry Battle. Unfortunately, they hadn't considered the idea that 1-A would be spying on them in the days before the Festival, and doing the exact same thing. Setsuna believes that strategy was basically cheating, while Bakugo fires back that 1-A earned their victory because they worked harder for it and 1-B could've easily done the same thing.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Even more so than canon. Just as in canon the USJ attack sees Class 1-A gain attention over them. The Sports Festival sees their status plummet even more thanks to Hikigaya’s preparations to the point only two members received internship offers. And during the Hosu incident those same two Class 1-B members are regulated to crowd control, while a group of 1-A is publicly known to have caught the Hero Killer Stain.
  • The Resenter: After the Sports Festival, relations between the two hero courses are worse than in canon with many of 1-B actually agreeing with Monoma hostilities (though they still think he's a drama queen about it). Hachiman tries to fix things, but his friends end up thoroughly burning that bridge for good, with Bakugo tap-dancing on the ashes.

Characters from My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong As I Expected

    Orimoto Kaori — Miss Mistery
  • Alpha Bitch: Perhaps more pronounced here, but still somewhat Downplayed. She still approached Hachiman out of pity and turned him down after he confessed his love for her, but she then started spreading rumors about him to increase her social status. It was also her barely restrained contempt for him (or, at least, what Hachiman interpreted as such) that compelled him to take the U.A. entrance exam out of spite. She, however, tries to approach him as an equal later on. In a canon-omake, it's shown from her perspective that she had no part in the hurtful rumors in question and genuinely doesn't hold any negative feelings towards Hachiman. She's just Innocently Insensitive, and she doesn't understand why he keeps giving her the cold shoulder.
  • Heroic BSoD: When she overhears that Hikigaya figured out the Nomus used to be innocent people because Zaimokuza was used to make the one that attacked the USJ, she's so horrified that Hikigaya lost his best friend that she's reduced to simply whispering "oh my god." She then concludes that this is the reason Hikigaya's changed so much.
  • Lovely Angels: Seems to have this going with Setsuna Tokage, as their Quirks work very well together.
  • Stage Magician: Her Hero name, Miss Mistery, and outfit consisting of a white top hat and cloak invokes this theme.
  • Super Smoke: Orimoto can control her density, allowing her to turn into an enormous fog bank. She can then re-condense pieces of her body selectively, allowing her to punch out people in the fog.

    Hina Ebina
  • Beware the Silly Ones: She’ll openly salivate at any hint of homoerotic behavior, but having Kinoko Komori’s Quirk makes her just as dangerous.
  • Cursed with Awesome: She’s very self-aware of how potentially lethal her Quirk can be, as seen when Mineta, her teammate in the Calvary Battle, accidentally breathes in her spores, and is in a hospital bed for the rest of the festival. It’s the main reason she won’t let Monoma copy it.
  • Distaff Counterpart: She's essentially a female Mineta. When he teams up with her in the Cavalry Battle of the Sports Festival, he finds her perversions unnerving.
  • Festering Fungus: She has the quirk of Kinoko Komori in MHA canon.
  • Yaoi Fangirl: Just like her canon self. When Kirishima and Bakugo face off in the sports festival, she can't help but audibly mumble about the eroticism of it all. Later, when Ida and Tobe officially become friends, Ebina is practically drooling. After that, when Monoma gets in Bakugo's face about his internship with Endeavor, she's is heard in the background yelping with delight and fainting.

    Iroha Isshiki
  • Age Lift: Downplayed. Iroha Isshiki is in the same grade as Hachiman rather than being an underclassman.
  • Cute Bruiser: She's as cute as her canon counterpart, but she has 1/3rd the power of Ultra-Boy.
  • Flying Brick: Downplayed with Iroha Isshiki. Her Quirk, Power Triangle, makes her more durable, stronger and allows her to fly, but not all at once. This makes her a fairly effective Jack of All Trades as she can cover various bases at the cost of none of her abilities really matching up to someone who specializes in them.

Characters from My Hero Academia

    Neito Monoma — Phantom Thief
  • Adaptational Badass: Monoma gets more chances to show off his chops as Class 1-B's power copier during the Sports Festival Arc.
    • First he completely derails Hachiman’s plan to get all of Class 1-A into the finals by stealing Todoroki’s Half-and-half quirk and working together with Tokage to free the students frozen by the same quirk, effectively turning the event into a cutthroat free for all and evenly fighting off Todoroki with the fire half of his quirk when he tries to take his headbands back, eventually necessitating Todoroki’s Cavalry Betrayal on Hikigaya’s team.
    • Later on in the Finals, Monoma gives Hachiman a pretty challenging fight despite being more limited in the number of quirks he can copy. Monoma reveals during his fight with Hachiman that his copy of the latter's quirk actually acts as a "reset" for his other three copies, meaning he could extend his time limit from five minutes to ten, effectively eliminating his time-limit weakness. Hachiman is thus forced to use Shinso’s quirk to immobilize Monoma enough to go for a ring out before the battle turns into one of attrition and needlessly burn through more of his stockpiled quirks.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Far more antagonistic towards 1-A than in canon, which is saying something. Not helping matters is his rivalry with Hachiman and desperately trying to prove his copy-quirk is superior. It's getting to the point that he's starting to think Hachiman might be doing some Engineered Heroics just to show him up.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While he's indisputably driven to prove himself superior, and unafraid to employ underhanded tactics, he notably refuses to betray those he's teamed up with, such as refraining from stealing Setsuna's headbands during the Calvary Battle when he had the opportunity. Though this is because he doesn't want to be compared to Class 1-A more than it's own virtue.
  • Gag Haircut: Hilariously self-induced, as while using Shiozaki's Quirk to fight Hikigaya during the tournament, he's forced to quickly switch to TetsuTestu's Quirk to defend himself. The near instantaneous change from having a head full of vines to a body of metal chopped off his hair to turn him bald.
  • Instant Expert: Zig-zagged. His Quirk provides some information into the Quirks he copies, but unlike Hikigaya's far more detailed analyzing abilities, Monoma's Quirk only gives him a general feeling that allows him to merely activate them, and avoid a How Do I Shot Web? situation. The rest comes from his natural intelligence, skill, and his own experiences of using a wide variety of Quirks. Even then, if the Quirk being copied requires a high degree of skill to use properly to begin with, such as Gran Torino's Jet Quirk, his own performance will be very underwhelming by comparison.
  • The Paranoiac: After the Sports Festival, he believes anything Hikigaya does has an alternative and underhanded motivation.
  • Power Copying: Similar to Hachiman, but he's limited to four for only five minutes, but the copies are at full strength. So their fight in the Sports Festival is a Quanitity Vs Quality match.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: While he's still this towards the whole of class 1-A, he holds a special contempt for Hachiman, seeing him as his rival.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: It’s implied after the Internship Arc that he’s the primary force behind Class 1-B maintaining a grudge against Class 1-A.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: He thinks he's the protagonist while Hachiman is his Stock Shōnen Rival.

    Itsuka Kendo — Battle Fist
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Downplayed, but present. With relations between class 1-A and 1-B even more toxic than in canon, Kendo hasn't had to step up and be the Cool Big Sis peacemaker to counter Monoma's antagonism which seems far more justified here. While she's too much of a Nice Girl to make a big deal out of it, when she and Miura work together on Uwabami's commercial, the latter can't help but notice the former's passive aggression.
  • Giant Hands of Doom: Her Quirk allows her to grow her hands to disproportionate size, making them stronger.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Her role in the story is limited to being the source of Monoma's arsenal of quirks he assembles for his fight with Hachiman.

    Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu — Real Steal
  • Extra-ore-dinary: His Quirk can turn his body into steel.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: His role in the story is limited to being the source of Monoma's arsenal of quirks he assembles for his fight with Hachiman.

    Ibara Shiozaki — Vine
  • Plant Hair: Her hair resembles thorn-covered vines, which she can control.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Her role in the story is limited to being the source of Monoma's arsenal of quirks he assembles for his fight with Hachiman.

    Juzo Honenuki — Mudman
  • Mucking in the Mud: His quirk allows him to turn any material into a quicksand-like substance to trap unprepared people.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: His role in the story is limited to being the source of Monoma's arsenal of quirks he assembles for his fight with Hachiman.

    Pony Tsunotori — Rocketti
  • Horn Attack: She can launch her horn out of her head like projectiles, and they immediately grow back.
  • Phenotype Stereotype: She's half-American, but she's got long blonde hair and big blue-green eyes, and being raised in America means she doesn't speak much Japanese. Hachiman internally notes that her mixed heritage causes some people to think she's All Might's secret child. He has his own theory.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Her role in the story is limited to being one of Mineta's "horses" during the cavalry battle, and using her quirk along with, his sticky balls and Ebina's mushrooms to slow down Hachiman's team in a surprisingly effective Combination Attack.

    Setsuna Tokage — Lizardy
  • Detachment Combat: Her quirk lets her split her body into floating pieces that she can control independently.
  • Lovely Angels: Monoma notes she and Orimoto are this due to how well their Quirks work together.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Tries to give this to Bakugo for 1-A teaming up against the rest during the cavalry battle. She largely fails due to it being Bakugo, and his noting how 1-B had plenty of opportunities to do the same, and just didn't utilize their own classes' full potential.

    Jurota Shishida — Gevaudan
  • Beast Man: His Quirk gives him beast like teeth and fur, and allows him to grow bigger.
  • Demoted to Extra: Hasn't really factored into the plot significantly yet.

    Shihai Kuroiro — Vantablack

    Nirengeki Shoda — Mines
  • Demoted to Extra: Hasn't really factored into the plot significantly yet.
  • Extra Turn: His Quirk lets him get a second stronger hit on anything he's hit once.

    Kosei Tsuburaba — Tsuburaba

    Yui Kodai — Rule
  • Demoted to Extra: Hasn't really factored into the plot significantly yet.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted. Yui Kodai shares the same first name as main character Yui Yuigahama.
  • Sizeshifter: Her quirk lets her change the size of any object she touches.

    Sen Kaibara — Spiral

    Manga Fukidashi — Comicman

    Yosetsu Awase — Welder

    Reiko Yanagi — Emily

    Kojiro Bondo — Plamo

Upper Classmen

The Big Four

    General

  • The Ace: All four of them are considered the best of the best of U.A.
  • Adaptation Expansion: They were the "Big Three" in MHA, but here they include Meguri Shiromeguri.
  • Balance, Power, Skill, Gimmick: Mirio uses strength, speed, and quirk to fight (Balance), Nejire wields long-distance bolts of energy (Power), Meguri relies more on her Super-Senses and training to fight (Skill), and Tamaki makes serious augmentations to his body to make himself stronger (Gimmick)
  • Gender-Equal Ensemble: With Meguri rounding them out, it's now an even two boys (Mirio and Tamaki) and two girls (Meguri and Nejire).

Characters from My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong As I Expected

    Meguri Shiromeguri — Miss Clue

  • The Ace: As befitting one of U.A.'s top students, she's kind, capable, and experienced.
  • Genius Ditz: She's one of the best of the best, but she's kind of an airhead. When they become sparring partners in Cyberpunch's dojo, Meguri can't properly explain the fundamentals of her martial arts to Hachiman, so he's forced to figure it out himself based on her demonstrations.
  • The Mole: For Haruno to spy on Yukino. Considering her Quirk, she's an excellent choice.
  • Meaningful Name: Shiromeguri's name means "castle" (城) (shiro) and "to patrol, tour" (巡) (meguri), befitting someone who has an unbreachable defensive.
  • Nice Girl: Meguri is a cheerful, out-going, optimistic, and team-spirited girl who always tries her best and acts positively. Although she is definitely smart, she exudes an "airheaded" persona that makes her more approachable to people.
  • Strong and Skilled: Hikigaya quickly finds out when sparring with her, Meguri's experience with her quirk makes her virtually untouchable in a fight as she can read the most minute changes in body movement and see an attack coming instantly.
  • Super-Senses: Her quirk allows her to have total situational awareness of everything around her - even the change in air pressure from people moving - with a range that could possibly stretch for miles.

Characters from My Hero Academia

    Mirio Togata — Lemillion

    Nejire Hado — Nejire Chan

  • The Cameo: Appears briefly in an omake when she overhears Mirio and Meguri talking about Aizawa during orientation. Though, the little that we see shows she has the same Motor Mouth and attention span as in canon.

    Tamaki Amajiki — Suneater

  • The Ghost: Hasn't appeared so far, but has been mentioned.

General Studies

    Iwato
  • The Bus Came Back:
    • He shows up in a canon omake as part of Mineta and Shinso's club, hoping to get some fighting experience.
    • Shows up again as part of a Student Council meeting where he properly thanks Hikiagay in person. Seemingly unaware that being around him causes Hikigaya to have an intense fight-or-flight response.
  • Hero-Worshipper: Very similar to Yuigahama, Iwato would not stop thanking Hikigaya when they finally met and was very clearly in awe of the hero-student who helped save his life.
  • Left the Background Music On: His quirk is called Theme Song, which allows him to play music of any kind whenever he wants with no need for audio equipment.
  • Original Character: He has no equivalent in either the MHA or OreGairu canon.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: He only exists to explain how Himiko managed to sneak into U.A. at all. Subverted though, thanks to Hachiman discovering Himiko's intrusion, the authorities managed to find Iwato in time and save his life.

    Vina
  • Birds of a Feather: She has a lot in common with Shinso personality-wise — she's quiet, intelligent, slightly cynical, and she wants to prove her quirk can make her a capable hero.
  • The Magic Touch: Her quirk allows her to induce a state of intoxication on people with a touch. Since the robots of the entrance exam were immune to it, she couldn't get into the hero course.
  • Original Character: Zigzagged. According to the author, she was based on a brown-haired girl who was cheering Shinso on during the Sports Festival.

    Komi Shouko

Characters from My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong As I Expected

    Saika Totsuka
  • Barrier Warrior: He can manifest tennis racket-sized ovals that can either stop momentum entirely or rebound it. Hachiman teaches him how to craft Beehive Barrier shields out of them.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: So androgynous that both Yui and Hachiman (and even Monoma) mistake him for a girl. Bakugo starts calling him "Ladyboy" until Saika wins a workout bet to get him to stop.
  • Nice Guy: He's pretty much an all-around nice, affectionate, and non-threatening person. Which, of course, only adds to his feminine appeal.

    Minami Sagami
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She's not a 'bad' person, she wants to be a pro-hero after all, but she's very condescending to Yuigahama and disproportionately confident in herself. That is until ...
  • Break the Haughty: She fails to get into the hero-course of U.A. despite everyone believing she was a shoo-in.
  • Demoted to Extra: She was fairly important in the My Youth story, but here she's only appeared in an omake as part of Shinso and Mineta's Quirk-training club.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: She has a very powerful pyrokinetic Quirk, but she was so sure of her own abilities that she never put the work into practicing with it and thought she could just coast into the hero course on her power alone. As a result, she totally tanked the entrance exam.
  • Playing with Fire: Word of God is her Quirk allows her to convert her body heat into flames that take the shape of a bird she can command.

    Tamanawa
  • Character Tic: He gesticulates his hands to a very noticeable degree. Though, it's warranted when considering his quirk.
  • Demoted to Extra: He has no important position at U.A., and only made it into the General Studies course.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: Shinso immediately pegs him as someone who loves to hear themselves talk.
  • Your Mime Makes It Real: His quirk allows him to conjure an invisible flail which he can swing with hand movements.

Characters from My Hero Academia

    Hitoshi Shinso
  • Compelling Voice: His Quirk lets him control anyone who responds to something he said. Hikigaya, with his own pension for provocation and Armor-Piercing Question, finds it quite useful.
  • Demoted to Extra / Small Role, Big Impact: He doesn't have the drawn-out fight with Midoriya because Hachiman warned his class ahead of time that his Compelling Voice only works if they respond to him. Therefore, their fight is a short Single-Stroke Battle. However, Hachiman's weak copy of his quirk allowed him to finally beat Monoma, and later subtlety influences Stain to waist time giving a Motive Rant, rather than killing Haruno.
  • "Reason You Suck" Speech: Gives one to Hachiman over how lucky the latter is to have such an amazing "hero" quirk.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Hikigaya’s plan to bring Class 1-A together for the Sports Festival is partially motivated by acknowledging how powerful a Quirk his is.

    Minoru Mineta
  • Demoted to Extra: Zig-Zagged. He misses out on the hero course because Hachiman does literally one point better than he did in the entrance exam, but shows up later as a general studies student alongside Shinso.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: While more attention is given to Shinso’s Quirk, Hikigaya also includes his ability, as one of the main reasons for his Sports Festival plan; implicitly recognizing it’s usefulness.
  • Hypocrite: He finds Ebina’s personality disturbing.
  • Sticky Situation: His Quirk makes his hair form into adhesive balls.
  • Those Two Guys: Apparently he and Shinso have become friends over their shared resentment towards "riajuus," like Hachiman, and they both give him a "Reason You Suck" Speech. In a canon-omake, Shinsou admits that has to routinely use his brainwashing Quirk on him just to keep his perverted antics in check.

Support Course

Characters from My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong As I Expected

    Saki Kawasaki
  • Birds of a Feather: With Hachiman as they're both hard-working loners with weak quirks who deeply love their younger siblings.
  • Cool Big Sis: She's the eldest of four children, and she loves her siblings very dearly. She and Hachiman bond over their respective Big Sibling Instinct
  • The Fashionista: She specializes in designing and making suits for those in the hero course. Though she's not notably fashionable herself, she clearly has a passion for it.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: She's mainly in the support course to design costumes for heroes, but she's smart enough to use the state-of-the-art equipment at U.A. to create what she calls "Angel Armor;" basically a Swiss Army Power Armor that can perform the functions of multiple rescue tools.
  • Ship Tease: She and Hachiman get a mild one before and after the sports festival. They even go on a "not-date."
  • The Sleepless: Her quirk allows her to function normally on just fifteen minutes of sleep.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: If it weren't for his weak copy of her quirk, Hachiman wouldn't be able to function half as well as he does. He feels really indebted to her.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She's noted for being very intimidating and having a bit of a Face of a Thug, but she loves designing suits for heroes (for practical and stylish reasons), and seriously envies Yui's cloth quirk.

Faculty

    Toshinori Yagi — All Might
  • Celibate Hero: He politely ignores Haruno’s attempts to flirt with him.
  • Ideal Hero: He's the Symbol of Peace. In fact, he's such a hero that he's able to recognize a heroic heart within Hikigaya Hachiman even after reading the boy's essay. It's his personal vouching (along with Eraser Head, Nemuri, and Mad Dog's) that allowed Hachiman to get into U.A. with a bare-minimum score.
  • "No. Just… No" Reaction: When Midoriya suggests to All Might that maybe Hachiman would've been a better candidate to inherit One For All instead of him, All Might - who read Hachiman's essay and actually knows how the boy feels about "heroes" - has a particularly gut-busting laugh at the prospect.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: Just as the canon, All Might won't be the world's Symbol of Peace for much longer, however because of Hachiman's intervention, All Might and Eraserhead end the League of Villain's invasion of U.A. faster than in the canon, meaning he's slightly stronger and healthier here.

    Shota Aizawa — Eraser Head
  • Generation Xerox: Like Shinso in canon, Hikigaya's story and personality mirror Eraser's considerably. Both are pessimists, who disdain the limelight and celebrity aspects of Heroism. Both have an initially unimpressive Quirk, that they have to spend hours honing into a formidable power, and are thus concerned with wasting time because of it. And both found friends at U.A. who force them to be sociable but bring them happiness in spite of themselves. Both also end up losing a friend, whose death drives them in their Hero career.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: He's horrified by The Reveal that Noumu actually was Hachiman's highschooler friend, meaning he was potentially responsible for killing a kid.
  • Stern Teacher: Very strict to his students, to the point of expelling the ones who don't meet his expectations, as he cares if his students have the potential to be heroes, not if their quirks are extremely powerful. Because of this philosophy, he's actually the main reason that Hachiman got accepted into U.A. at all. Hachiman's written entrance exam - which he wrote while distracted by his regeneration quirk painfully healing his leg - contained his unfiltered opinions about hero culture where he called them all either idiotic do-gooders or narcissistic media whores. Naturally, this didn't endear him to the heroes who were evaluating his exam, and they were going to just reject him on the spot. However, Aizawa argued that if the kid took and passed (even if just barely) one of the hardest hero tests in the country on a broken leg, he clearly wanted to be a hero more than his words let on. Present Mic later speculated that he gave the kid a shot because of "pessimist sympathy."
    • It's also slightly deconstructed, as it becomes gradually revealed that the threat of expulsion is his standard method for every personal issue with his students such as Hachiman's attitude (though he admits it's less of a concern than at the start of the year), or Todoroki's refusal to use his fire Quirk. Hound Dog calls him out as not always being appropriate.

    Lunch Rush
  • Breath Weapon: His Quirk lets him exhale a field that increases organic matter's thermal conductivity. Effectively making living things much more sensitive and vulnerable to even mild sources of heat. It allows him to cook in far less time than it normally would take without hurting the food's quality.
  • Excuse Me While I Multitask: He works several high-tech ovens, microwaves, and deep friers, chops and dices ingredients, and assembles meals while carrying on a conversation with Hikigaya. Makes sense as the guy cooks for over 600 people at once.
  • Smoky Voice: He has a noticeable rasp when he talks, much like a long time smoker. It's unknown if this is actually due to smoking, or simply a side effect of long use of his Quirk.
  • Supreme Chef: He's able to feed a school of six hundred students at the same time; with food ranging from large standardized portions to personalized individual meals on request, and everything tasting like it came from a high quality restaurant. Notably, he does it all by himself with only his Quirk cutting down on the time it takes food to cook for aide, and he's presumably perfectly happy with the arrangement.
  • Team Chef: He's the one who cooks among the U.A. faculty.

    Ryo Inui — Hound Dog
  • Angrish: Starts barking and growling when he's worked up.
  • Animal-Themed Superbeing: He's a dog-themed hero, which is made pretty obvious by his hero name. He also greatly resembles a dog and tends to revert to canine behavior when he's upset. He once jokingly compared himself to a therapy dog to Vlad King about why he took his job as a guidance counselor.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: He has a tendency to devolve into fits of angry snapping and barking and even physically attacking people in the process, but he is also a very caring guidance counselor who wishes to help students as best he can. Apparently, he picked up a lot of his knowledge from his own personal work, trying to reign in his bestial tendencies.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: He's good with kids and cares deeply for U.A.'s students.
  • The Nose Knows: As could be expected of a person with the abilities of a dog, he's got an incredibly keen sense of smell, which was once used to have him act as a "guard dog" when the school beefed up security for the school festival. He also notes in a staff meeting that the students reek of stress hormones and believes the teachers are pushing them too hard.
  • The Unintelligible: Not all the time, but when he starts spewing angrish, it's hard for him to get his point across. He can talk just fine when he's relatively calm, though.

    Nemuri Kayama — Midnight

    Hizashi Yamada — Present Mic
  • Childhood Friends: Aizawa mentions that they've known each other since freshmen year of their time at UA. This takes a slightly tragic turn when it's implied they were also friends with another pro-hero Scryer AKA Hiratsuka Kazuma, the older brother of Cyberpunch.
  • Pungeon Master: His announcement of the Sports Festival is riddled with lame jokes, especially in the 1 vs 1 Third Event. He even pushes Aizawa to make them in his place when he goes hoarse.

    Chiyo Shuzenji — Recovery Girl
  • Good Is Not Soft: Probably more-so than in canon as she's less tolerant of students not following her orders.
  • Healing Magic Is the Hardest: She advises Hachiman on using his healing Quirks as he tends to get hurt more often than anyone else in his class. Yeah, even more than Midoriya, if you can believe it.
  • Super Doc: Beyond her healing quirk, she demonstrates her considerable knowledge of medicine and experience with the cutting-edge U.A. medical equipment when helping students.

    Principle Nezu
  • It Amused Me: Word of God is that while Hikigaya's highly pessimistic essay inspired the HEART groups being formed, each member was placed on their particular teams by the principle mainly on the basis of how each team's dynamics would personally entertain him.
  • No-Sell: His Super-Intelligence quirk can't be copied by Hachiman, due to his being an animal with a quirk, rather than a human.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He doesn't expel Hikigaya or anyone else in his HEART group when they illegally engage a dangerous villain, as the villain clearly attacked first and they were just defending themselves. Still, he gives Hikigaya and Bakugo a 20-minute lecture on why what they did was wrong, and informs that he's forcing Azaiwa to write a "reflective essay" on how he failed as a teacher in this instance.
  • Super-Intelligence: His Quirk makes him the smartest person on the planet. However, even he is dumbfounded over how to classify Hikigaya Hachiman and his actions — is he a cynical youth with the potential to be a hero? Is he a dangerous villain-in-the-making? Is he secretly a villain already? All signs point to at least one of those guesses being true.

    Sekijiro Kan — Vlad King
  • Everyone Has Standards: A downplayed example, as though he recognizes and admires All Might as a Hero, he's critical and even a little annoyed with the Symbol of Peace's poor performance as a teacher and member of the faculty.
  • Head Butting Heroes: Gets into an argument with Aizawa about Class 1-A's underhanded method of spying and uniting against the rest of the school for the Sports Festival, and not even giving him as 1-B's teacher any warning.
  • Papa Wolf: He cares about his students, and doesn't want to see their careers stunted through no fault of their own.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Calls out Aizawa for affectively usurping Vlad's prerogative as 1-B's teacher by letting 1-A's Sports Festival strategy continue without warning and serve as an abject lesson to 1-B.

Other Pro Heroes

    Shizuka Hiratsuka — Cyberpunch
  • Artificial Limbs: Her right arm is naturally robotic with fins coming off of it that allows her to perform feats of Psychometry.
  • Boxing Lessons for Superman: Cyberpunch teaches all kinds of martial arts at her dojo, but her primary style is called "Mandalore," which borrows from MMA, a few "dirty tricks" from Systema, and some passive force redirection from Aikido. Basically, it's a martial art aimed specifically at fighting against those significantly above your weight class. She demonstrates how effective it is when she has to fight a Nomu.
  • Consummate Professional: She's been in the hero-game a long time and knows all the tricks to compartmentalize her emotions to stay ahead and keep calm under pressure. Perhaps best shown either when she keeps her composure fighting against a Nomu during the Hosu Incident, or when Matsuri Hikigaya screams at her for letting Hachiman nearly die fighting Stain.
  • Cool Car: Drives a sleek red 2005 Aston Martin V8 Vantage coupé. She used to have it in chrome to match her arm, but she hated how often she had to wash it.
  • Cowboy Cop: Zig-zagged. She'll follow the rules, if only because breaking them would lead to far too much paperwork than she'd like. Though she's not above "if you don't say anything, I won't say anything."
  • Death Glare: Does this a lot. Specifically when people bring up her age ... or when people start thinking about her age ... or literally anything to do with her age.
  • Defective Detective: Downplayed, but the hints we get about her personal life don't exactly paint a pretty picture.
  • The Empath: The main ability of her Psychometry power. Her heteromorphic right arm can detect the emotions of people, as well as the psychic traces left on objects when touched. It allows her to create a profile, and see who matches.
  • Generation Xerox: The more we learn about her, the more it shows that she and Hachiman have a lot in common. Specifically, She too joined a hero program to avenge someone close to her and held no interest in heroics beyond that goal. They also share similar personality traits of being cynical grumps, and they both suffered discrimination due to the nature of their Quirks. However, Hiratsuka eventually grew out of it and found meaning in being a pillar of her local community, such as helping at-risk youths, and came to respect other heroes (like All Might). Basically, she's what Hachiman could become, one day.
  • Heroes Act, Villains Hinder: She says this is the main difference between her and other pro-heroes — heroes like All Might act like lightning rods for the bold (read: stupid) villains who feel like they have something to prove. Whereas she helps destabilize gangs or helps track down serial killers.
  • Hidden Depths: She seems to be a fan of schlocky horror movies, to Hachiman's dismay
  • Mentor Archetype: Shaping up to be one towards Hachiman as he helps her with the Nomu case, and recommending that the analysis function of his quirk would be useful for police work. Though, she's not exactly a "spoon full of sugar"-kind of mentor. She's also the one and only person who managed to figure out how to stress Hikigaya's quirk since their quirks are so similar.
  • Negated Moment of Awesome: During the Hosu arc. After fighting to delay for most of the battle with the tongue Nomu, she decides to take it out herself when help takes too long to arrive. But just before going on the attack, Mirko makes a Dynamic Entry that promptly flattens the monster, and denies Shizuka the glory. She's rather irritated by it.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: While she’s already very attractive, with a bit of makeup and a dress, she’s beautiful enough to leave Hikigaya flustered.
  • Sherlock Scan: She wouldn't be much of a detective if she didn't have one, and it's pretty developed. The moment she lays eyes on Komachi, she already deduces that she's energetic and sporty just based on her loose clothes, and figures out that someone in the Hikigaya family is a heterotroph with a strength Quirk from how sturdy the furniture and drinking glasses of their house are. When Hachiman becomes her intern, he notes with a hint of resignation that even with all of his Quirks, he's still nowhere near her natural deductive level. While her psychometry may play a role in gathering clues, it's clear that she's just that good.
  • Ship Tease:
    • As in canon, with Hachiman. They have similar personalities, and when Hikigaya uses his Quirk to light her cigarette (complete with a self-deprecating quip), she blushes and says that he's "going to be dangerous in a couple of years." In chapter 12.7, it's heavily implied that she called him to ask if he could go to the Hosu Charity Ball as her date. As Hachiman was already going with Manaka, she ended up going stag. There are apparently already some Teacher/Student Romance rumors going around as a paparazzi accuses him of it.
    • Also to Tensei Iida. At the charity gala, they dance, and it's implied they end the evening together.
  • Smoking Is Cool: No, it's not. She knows it's a bad look for a pro-hero to be smoking, but as a perpetually stressed-out private detective, she needs something to take the edge off of the day.
  • Standard Cop Backstory: During his internship with Cyberpunch, Hachiman learns that she became a pro-hero to avenge her older brother, Scryer, who was murdered by an anti-heteromorphic hate group.
  • Super Cop: Rather than being a Cool Teacher, here she's a popular pro-hero who works for a branch of the police. In practice, she's actually more like a private investigator; she's usually brought in as a consultant on certain cases, and the police typically get all of the credit if the case is solved. She also runs a dojo for extra cash and to help at-risk youths.
  • Super-Reflexes: When Hachiman analysis her Quirk, he discovers she has telepathic nerves that give her this. Also when coupled with her martial arts training, she's far faster than the average person, as seen when she manages to dodge and counter the Hosu tongue Nomu.
  • Super-Strength: Required to compensate for her robotic arm.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Her go-to solution whenever someone (usually Hachiman) makes the patently wrong assumption about her life and she’s too embarrassed by the reality to correct them. Such as when he and Cyberpunch meet for his internship at her office and he guesses that her clear lack of sleep was due to burning the midnight oil on a stake-out (it’s implied that she was stood-up by a date), or when she shows up to the charity gala, and Hachiman thinks she’s there to back-up Compestris in case her stalker tries to attack her (she’s there to score publicity points after her reputation got a boost from fighting a Nomu during the Hosu Incident).

    Haruno Yukinoshita — Campestris
  • Accidental Hero: She recently beat Ingenium for a very lucrative advertisement deal with an athletic shoe company. This inadvertently saved Tensei from Stain's wrath, as the hero hadn't yet been "corrupted" by the business side of pro-heroism.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: While the Haruno in My Youth was a mischievous Bitch in Sheep's Clothing, here, she's incredibly worn down by the back-room shadiness of the Hero industry, and it's made a slightly more cynical person.
  • Big Sister Bully: It's clear from the cold interactions with Haruno that Yukino doesn't like her. Yukino even notes that whenever her older sister is around, she always steals the spotlight with their daring hero exploits and humble-bragging.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: She's charitably endowed and she clearly knows it as her hero costume's breastplate displays her ample cleavage. Hachiman notes that she bends over just enough to give an enticing hint, but not enough to actually see anything.
  • Celebrity Superhero: She's more this than probably any other person in the pro-hero industry (which already has a celebrity culture built into it, so that's saying something), believing that looking like you save lives is more important than actually saving them. Crosses over into Jerkass Has a Point because all the revenue she earns from commercials and endorsements helps fund her agency, which in turn helps cut down the crime rates in her district. Which isn't too dissimilar from what All Might's "Symbol of Peace" persona is meant to accomplish. It's this reason that Stain chooses her as his next victim.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite everything else in this section, she puts her life on the line to protect schoolchildren from the Hero Killer, Stain.
    • She extended an internship to Todoroki for no other reason than because she wanted to get him away from his father, whom she utterly loathes.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Despite being The Social Expert, her cynical view that everyone in the Hero Industry is either a two-faced manipulator in order to be successful, or are losers who fail at being one, gives her some enormous blind spots into the true characteristics and motivations of certain people. In the Sports Festival, she sees Hikigaya's note-worthy speech and performance and concludes them to be expert media manipulation, rather than the unintended accidents that they actually are. When she's also able to discover All Might is Secretly Dying, she immediately believes him to be as much of a self-centered liar as she is. ALL MIGHT of all people.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Well, tarnished bronze, anyway. Haruno is no idealist, but there's no denying that she directly or indirectly saves lives. And, as opposed to mentors like Cyberpunch or All Might, who try to gently steer their charges in the right direction, Haruno provokes and antagonizes Yukino into a course she thinks is best for her little sister.
  • Life Drinker: Her quirk allows her to draw the vitality from another person and convert it into physical energy. She uses this power to figure out that All Might is Secretly Dying, and concludes he's a lying snake, just like her.
  • Nominal Hero. Haruno may be a pro-hero, but she is not a good person and doesn't even believe they exist. She even starts to think All Might is like her when they finally meet, and she interprets his heroic persona as an intricately constructed mask he uses for selfish agendas. Though, she has standards.
  • A Pupil of Mine Until He Turned to Evil: Downplayed. Haruno was a student/intern of Cyberpunch when she was just starting out, but as soon as she felt she'd learned everything she could and built up enough name recognition in Chiba, she dropped Hiratsuka and started her own agency. Cyberpunch sees it as a Deceptive Disciple situation, while Haruno simply sees it as Surpassed the Teacher. When they are brought together again, they immediately begin sniping at each other, but Hikigaya can tell that they're doing it for fun as much as for spite.
  • The Social Expert: She knows exactly how to goad her uncle, Endeavor, with the best well-constructed/disguised taunts and understands perfectly well why his children hate him, but she doesn't directly step in because she knows it won't amount to much.
  • The Sociopath: Implied. Her narration shows she fulfills several criteria to qualify for the trope. For example, she's The Social Expert, shows Lack of Empathy, her every public action is motivated by the PR points she gets from it, and judges things more in the boring-entertaining spectrum than in terms of right or wrong. Like in canon, it's left ambiguous whether she's a Villain with Good Publicity, or just incredibly jaded and world-weary. Then again, she absolutely despises Endeavor for how he's treated her family, and idly fantasizes about murdering him. This is why she does everything she can to get Todoroki as her intern and away from his father's toxic influence.
  • Worf Had the Flu: During the Hosu arc she gets attacked and paralyzed by Stain slicing her back from an ambush. When she recovers after Hikigaya partially heals her, and the paralysis wears off, she faces the serial killer in a straight battle, but still loses the fight. Hikigaya notes how despite suffering from blood loss and the wound opening back up, she still managed to come within a hair's breadth of winning, and thus likely would have won had she been uninjured.

    Enji Todoroki — Endeavor
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade:
    • If he wasn’t angry enough in canon, this story sees Shoto not using his fire side at all during the sports festival, and gets knocked out of the semi-finals by Deku (whose strength has already generated comparisons to All Might). By the end he’s seen visibly mad enough to be spitting fire.
    • Adding further to his frustrations during the Internship Arc, Shoto decides to intern with his cousin Campestris, instead of him.
  • Combat Uninterruptus: An interlude sees him capturing a group of petty thieves, while simultaneously going over internship offers with one of his sidekicks.
  • Cool Uncle: Averted. He’s Haruno’s and Yukino’s uncle but is the same Jerkass self as he is with everyone at this canon point.
  • Jerkass: He shows that even with his family tree extended to include the Yukinoshita sisters, and they also being fellow Heroes, he’s his same unpleasant self. Haruno, he personally can’t stand, and he completely forgets Yukino is also competing in the UA Festival with Shoto.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: As he is despised by his son, and uninterested in his social life anyway, he’s completely unaware of the happenings going on at UA. Haruno takes advantage of this to rile him up.
  • Politically Incorrect Hero: His POV scene shows he’s extended his resentment with All Might to anyone who similarly has a Super-Strength Quirk; viewing them as nothing more than Dumb Muscle that aren’t really as capable as the public believes.
  • Slave to PR: Downplayed. He doesn’t hide what a hardass he is, but he keeps how much he despises Haruno, his niece, from their public interactions as much as she does for the sake of their family reputations.

    Rumi Usagiyama — Mirko
  • Animal-Themed Superbeing: She's a rabbit heteromorph. This is actually why she chose Midoriya as her intern — she saw his costume had a rabbit theme (it's actually an homage to All Might) and assumed he was a fan.
  • Big Damn Heroes: She intervenes in Cyberpunch's fight with a Nomu. Unfortunately for Cyberpunch, this means that Mirko basically stole her kill.
  • Blood Knight: She loves to fight, which is why she became a Traveling Hero; she doesn't have to be tied down to any specific district and can go where the action is. She also doesn't take lightly to people holding back on her because she's a woman, so when Midoriya becomes her intern, she makes it perfectly clear that his chivalry will not be tolerated.
  • The Drifter: Known as a "Traveling Hero," Mirko has no permanent hero office or "territory". She instead travels across Japan, setting up temporary outposts and kicking the asses of every villain in the area until she moves on to the next town. This gives some much-needed perspective to Midordiya on the complexities of the Hero network.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: Is completely oblivious to how certain parts of her bounce when she jumps, how her already snug Hero outfit looks after building up a sweat from parkour all day, or the implications of sharing a water bottle with a teenage boy. Midoriya notices though.
  • Sink or Swim Mentor: As she doesn't like teaming up with others, she's never taught an intern before. Thus, Midoriya being her first, her training consists of him doing nothing but sparring together, and trying to keep up with her performing super-powered parkour without any instructions. At least until after the Hosu incident, when she takes the internship seriously and starts giving actual instructions.

    Mirai Sasaki — Sir Nighteye
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: In this story he’s introduced in the first internship program taking Invisible Girl under his wing, instead of the second with Midoriya.
  • Logical Weakness: His Foresight Quirk can only be activated by touching a person and making eye contact with them. He’s thus unable to directly use it against anyone he can’t make eye contact with like Invisible Girl.
  • Serious Business: He takes comedy very seriously, even going into an explanation on why the skills of a good comedian can be vital to a good Hero. He even critiques Invisible Girl’s comment–implying his tickle torture machine was some kind of sex device–as inappropriate to the present audience because he puts Bubble Girl in it all the time.

    Tatsuyuki Tokoname — Slidin' Go
  • Adaptational Badass: Downplayed. He did nothing of note in canon, while in this story he actually makes an arrest. It's downplayed by the fact the arrest was simply a delinquent kid he knocked out in a single move.
  • Dirty Cop: His membership to an anarchist group aside, it's also implied he planted drugs on a gang kid who was only guilty of minor delinquency at the time.
  • Evil Mentor: He takes Hayama as his student intern, and manages to convince him of the problems of Quirk laws.
  • Hidden Depths: When coming across a gang of biker delinquents, he only arrests one with the minimal needed force while they flee. He then explains to Hayama how the situation didn't necessitate going too seriously to subdue anyone and how, since they all left their bikes behind, they can all be tracked down later if necessary, showing that despite his corrupt status, he is good at his job.
  • Super-Speed: Hayama notes how his gliding across the ground is faster than even Yukino's kinetic skating, or Todoroki's ice surfing.

    Tensei Iida — Ingenium
  • Demoted to Extra: Here, he's not crippled by Stain, so he continues being a pro-hero. Though, he's only spared because Stain has a different target in mind.
  • Love Triangle: Hilariously, Tensei Iida, of all people, is found to be involved in this with Uwabami and Cyberpunch. At the Hosu Charity Gala, they both corner him and play the "who is he going to dance with first" game.
  • Officer and a Gentleman: He's reasonable and respectful to the homeless men he's speaking to, and informs them of a homeless shelter not too far away. This is slightly deconstructed as he doesn't realize that one of them is a notorious Serial Killer.

    Masaki Mizushima — Manual
  • Good Is Not Soft: He's as upstanding a Hero as canon. This doesn’t prevent him from immediately trying to drown the Winged Nomu since lethal action is authorized by the Hero Commission; only being stopped by a combination of Midoriya revealing the Nomu’s victimized origin, as well as the Commission wanting a live specimen.
  • Making a Splash: A hydrokinetic hero, and he's actually pretty good at utilizing it. Especially to take down a Nomu and almost drowns it by pouring an unrelenting stream into its face. Yep, he was waterboarding it to death before Midoriya stopped him.
  • Kid Amid the Chaos: He becomes the mentor of Miss Mistery, Orimoto Kaori, just in time for the Hosu incident. Not only that, but he is then saddled with Midoriya after Mirko dumps the kid on him so she can fight the Nomus on her own.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He doesn't like Mirko foisting Midoriya off on him in the middle of a crisis, especially when he has his own intern to worry about, but he makes it work and he listens to the boy when he brings up new information about the Nomus.

    Native
  • Adaptational Badass: In the MHA canon, we never find out what his Quirk was. Here, he has Animalistic Abilities based around stereotypical Native American animals (i.e. bears, eagles, deer, etc). This gives him a wide array of powers to fight with.
  • Magical Native American: His hero theme. It's unknown if he's actually of Native American descent, or if it was just a style that went well with his Quirk.
  • Nice Guy: He seems to be a reasonable and encouraging pro-hero, best shown when assures Orimoto and Midoriya that they won't suffer any negative consequences for engaging the Nomus because he saw they were attacked first.
  • Superpower Lottery: He has the same powers as Vixen from DC Comics.
  • Working with the Ex: Implied. He's one of the pro-heroes that responds to Campestris' distress call, where he runs into Cyberpunch, who's chagrined that he's there.

    Uwabami
  • Hidden Depths: She's at first portrayed as a Hero that seems more interested in being a fashion model, just as in canon. Miura and Kendo's internship, however, reveal that she also uses her fame and fortune from modeling to advance charities and humanitarian causes, especially ones that are actual real-world results. It gives a whole new perspective from her canon self, and how just because a Pro Hero may be occupied with the "fame and fortune" side of the Hero Industry, it doesn't inherently mean they aren't still an altruistic person looking to help others.
  • Honest Corporate Executive: She's an advocate of the Effective Altruism movement, and is very vocal about how the business side of pro-heroism can help save lives. When Miura and Kendo become her interns, she's impressed that the former has similar passions and encourages both of them to pursue it.

    Sorahiko Torino — Gran Torino

  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Still introduced playing the senile act before showing his true abilities, but this time to Monoma instead of Midoriya.
  • Demoted to Extra: Due to Midoriya being able to utilize One For All at the start of UA, Gran Torino doesn't reach out to him for training during the Internship, but he still shows up during the Hosu attack to take out a Nomu.
  • The Gadfly: Seems to get a kick out of trolling any young hero in training when he has the chance.

    Kazuma Hiratsuka — Scryer

  • Artificial Limb: Just like his sister.
  • Composite Character: Zig-zagged as Shizuka never had a brother in the My Youth canon, but his backstory as Present Mic and Eraser Head's childhood friend who tragically died is reminiscent of Oboro Shirakumo, Kurogiri of the My Hero canon.
  • Emotion Bomb: Word of God states his Quirk gave him the ability to inject people with his own emotions when touched/punched by his heteromorphic arm.
  • Passing the Torch: In a way. After his death, Shizuka went into the pro-hero business to avenge him, which ultimately proved futile when All Might was the one who actually did it. Still, she remained a hero, and has tried to advance heteromorphic rights in her own small way.
  • Posthumous Character: He's long dead by the time the story starts.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: His pro-hero career started with making a big bust on an anti-heteromorph hate group, and they retaliated by breaking into his home and murdering him in his sleep. However, this caught the attention of other heroes, and All Might was brought in to finally take them down. They're still around, but they're nowhere near as powerful as they once were.
  • Undignified Death: Not only was he murdered in his sleep, but they also chopped off his cybernetic arm as a trophy.

League of Villains

    All For One

    Tomura Shigaraki
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Zigg-zagged. Due to Eraserhead playing a much more critical role in saving All Might during the USJ attack in this story, Shigaraki has a much more personal grudge against the Hero, rather than the twisted admiration he displays in canon. However, due to the attack being much more of a failure in this story, Shigaraki also recognizes the need for more capable comrades sooner, and is implied to have been much more polite in his meeting with Stain, even if he still personally detests the Hero Killer.
  • Creepy Monotone: Hachiman notes that Shigaraki has an eerily deep voice.
  • Evil Counterpart: In addition to Midoriya, Tomura serves as one to Hikigaya, as well. Both are initially anti-social loners who are driven by spite; they then become leaders of their group and undergo character development involving the bonds they make with their comrades. The difference is Hikigaya had people in his life that he could depend on and so still fundamentally a good person whose spite never overshadows his morality, while Shigaraki was stuck with All For One and is driven to simply destroy everything he hates.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Had Tomura and the League of Villains attacked just a day later, Hachiman would've dropped out of U.A. and given them a better chance at killing All Might, and Hachiman wouldn't have figured out that his old friend, Yoshiteru Zaimokuza, was used in some way to build the Nomu, compelling him to stay in the hero business to avenge his friend. Aizawa himself would later tell Present Mic that if Hachiman hadn't been there, he's sure he and All Might would've died.
  • Villain Respect: Averted. Unlike in canon, Shigaraki despises Eraserhead for being the one to save All Might during the USJ attack in this story.

    Himiko Toga
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: She is introduced as a hired agent to infiltrate U.A. to get at the class schedule for the USJ attack, rather than after the Hosu incident in canon.
  • Adaptation Expansion: It's revealed she was the one who snuck into U.A. and started the emergency alarm to hack into its security systems.
  • Combat Uninterruptus: She stabs Hikigaya, and fights off both Bakugo and Yukino, all while holding a conversation with Kurogiri on a phone.
  • Knight of Cerebus: She acts as a wake-up call for Hachiman, his HEART group, class 1-A, and probably the rest of the school. Before Himiko's break-in and attack on their class president, they had no idea the kinds of dangers that awaited them as future pro-heroes.
  • Villainesses Want Heroes: Toga likes boys that bleed good. Guys with a sharp tongue and a Healing Factor like Hachiman? Now, that's just spoiling her.
  • Yandere: When she sees Hachiman heal from getting stabbed in the chest, she immediately becomes enamored with the idea of a boyfriend she can cut endlessly.

    Kurogiri

    Nomu
  • Ability Mixing: While this Nomu has the grafted on powers of Shock Absorption and a couple of generic strength quirks, they're built on the base of the powerful Regeneration quirk it got from one of its "donors."
  • Adaptation Expansion: The identity of the Nomu that attacks the USJ and where it got its quirks is never revealed in the MHA canon. Here, it's revealed a random troubled-youth was the body, and Yoshiteru Zaimokuza was used for one of its' powers.
  • Walking Spoiler: Who it was is a surprise for Hachiman, and it convinces him to stay at U.A. to avenge him.

Independent Villains

    Sludge Villain
  • Blob Monster: The copied version of his Quirk makes Hikigaya feel like his body is 1/108th ooze, which is the root of his nausea issues.
  • Grand Theft Me: His ability to use the quirks of people whose bodies he possesses is what allows Hikigaya to use more than one Quirk at a time.
  • Human Shield: Manages to grab Hikigaya as well as Bakugo as a hostage. Hikigaya notes how no one seemed to pay him much attention in that situation.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: As well as being the villain who started Midoriya on his path to inherit One For All, he’s also the reason Hikigaya was able to copy a version of the Quirk. His own quirk also happens to be an essential part of Hikigaya’s arsenal.

Chizome Akaguro — "Hero Killer" Stain
  • Berserk Button: In his fight with the U.A. students, Stain really didn't like Hachman being an apologist to the pro-heroes he so despises.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: Well, more like "taken down differently" — Hachiman manages to get close enough to Stain that he's able to throw acid-infused blood into the latter's eyes, blinding him. Stain's then promptly knocked out by Yukino and arrested.
  • Implacable Man: Same as in canon, Stain doesn't go down without a serious fight. He pushes Yukinoshita, Hachiman, and Todoroki to their absolute limit to protect Campestris from him, and even then, they almost fail.
  • Irony: Absolutely despises Heroes he sees as "fakes" for their attention to the fame and fortune side of the industry. His failed attempt to kill Haruno, who is practically the embodiment of everything he hates in Heroes, coupled with some circumstantial events and coincidences, sees his ideology largely dismissed by the public, and Haruno gaining more fame than she ever had before.
  • Loony Fan: It doesn't take long for Hachiman to start thinking of him as a "chuuni tryhard."
  • Stalker without a Crush: He holds a special amount of contempt for Campestris, seeing her as the epitome of the lowest-lows that pro-heroism has sunk to.
  • Unwitting Pawn: AFO deliberately attaches the League to him so that they can benefit from his ideology and infamy, and attract more allies. Unfortunately for them, the media incorrectly links him with Haruno's "stalker" problem which overshadows his actual message, along with Cyberpunch’s fight with the tongue Nomu being captured on video, makes it easier for people to ignore and write him off. While he still has his infamy, it's not as powerful as it is in canon, so people like Spinner don't become his devotees.
  • Villainous Breakdown: It throws Stain for a loop when Hachiman shares his theory that Midoriya is All Might's secret love-child and then backs it up with pretty convincing evidence. The idea that the one hero in the world that held up as the The Paragon could have an illegitimate son does momentarily stun him, but he shakes it off as "gossip."
  • Villain Respect: He'll readily acknowledge other Heroes beside All Might who stand in his way if he sees them living up to his ideals, such as Ingenium for not being tainted by media endorsements, or Yukino and Todoroki for defending Haruno from him because they're family. He still won't hesitate to kill them in pursuit of his goal. He also doesn't extend this respect towards Hachiman, who he sees as a fake-hero apologist.

Meta Liberation Army

    Chitose Kizuki — Curious
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Is introduced right after the Sports Festival rather than much later in the storyline.
  • Admiring the Abomination: She views creatures like vultures and other general scavengers as an important and noble part of the ecosystem.
  • Immoral Journalist: Goes hand-in-hand with being the propaganda arm of an anarchist group, but special mention goes for her willingness to place kids in the line of fire of villains if it serves her anti-government agenda.
  • Manipulative Bastard: She aims to stir up controversy, and even create it, so as to pressure UA into giving her access so she can dig up more dirt. She's even willing to steer the League of Villains into attacking the students again for her own goal.
  • Mask of Sanity: She has trouble restraining herself when she smells the potential for scandal. When speaking with Hikigaya after the Hosu Attack she’s so excited, Hikigaya uncomfortably likens it to a Dirty Old Man ogling a starlet.
  • Properly Paranoid: Her default suspicious nature of authorities leads her to believe UA is hiding something related to All Might.
  • Sadist: It's subtle, but she expresses amusement and interest at seeing her subordinate break down in fear.

    Rikiya Yotsubashi — Re-Destro

Hikkigaya Family

    Komachi Hikigaya
  • Adaptive Ability: Komachi's Quirk constantly and automatically scans the Quirk-induced physical traits of people around her. If it finds something that would improve her in any way, like stronger or faster muscle fibers, tougher bones or skin, or more sensitive sensory receptors for a better sense of sight/hearing/etc., it copies and incorporates the trait as an upgrade on the condition that it won't alter her body's basic shape or function. Her Quirk used to be an example of Blessed with Suck that suddenly improved her senses or base strength without asking, thus making it very hard for her to adapt to the constant changes. Thankfully, she eventually hit an evolutionary plateau of sorts thanks to the Law of Diminishing Returns and currently, the upgrades happen so slowly that she barely notices them.
  • Anger Born of Worry: The times she's most angry with her brother in this story are when he's just gotten injured from fighting a villain; which is much too frequent for either's liking. She gets especially pissed if Hachiman lies about it to keep her from worrying.
  • Cute Bruiser: Komachi's Quirk, Homomorphic Chimerization, allows her cells to copy any alterations done to a person's body by their Quirk as long as it doesn't change her basic body shape. By the time the story has started, she's copied so many her bones are like titanium and her skin is as tough as Kevlar. To paraphrase Hachiman, she's a "T-Rex squeezed into the body of a little girl".
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: As is canon, she and her brother are almost nothing alike. Hachiman is an introverted, cynical grump, while Komachi is a lively, optimistic Genki Girl.

    The Parents
  • Adaptation Expansion: In the My Youth canon, their names are never mentioned. Here, the mother is named Matsuri, and the father is named Wataru.
  • Anger Born of Worry: They both feel a mix of pride and appall when they see their son fight in the Sports Festival. Never having been in a fight before, they both wonder where he learned to compete so hard.
    • It gets even worse after the Hosu Incident when Hachiman ends up in the hospital after fighting the Hero-Killer, Stain. Matsuri is so frothingly angry at Cyberpunch that she was basically screeching at the pro-hero... before breaking down into tears because this would be the fourth brush with death that her child has been through, and she doesn't know how much more she can take.
  • Daddy Didn't Show: Neither of them went to the Sports Festival as they were too busy. Komachi and her friend went instead.
  • First-Person Smartass: Let's just say Matsuri's interlude leaves little doubt about where Hachiman gets his attitude.
  • Over-Enthusiastic Parents: After Hachiman's stint in the Sports Festival (which resulted in him fainting from over-exertion), they try to spend more time with their children, which Hachiman finds inconvenient as he has to deal with re-stocking his powers and the medical probation Recovery Girl puts him on.
  • Superpowerful Genetics: Not really, since they both have near-useless quirks, but it's clear where Hachiman and Komachi get their quirks from. Matsuri has a quirk, "Roulette," that allows her to instantly seek out someone else's quirk to copy, and she doesn't even need physical contact. However, the copy is incredibly weak, and the process gives her a migraine. Wataru has a quirk called "Impression," which allows him to partially copy a person's appearance and physical abilities. He mainly uses it for jokes.
  • Workaholic: They're both constantly working. Originally, this was to earn more money to remodel the house when Komachi's quirk kicked in, but it eventually became a habit.

Other Characters

    Taishi Kawasaki
  • Heroic Willpower: His Quirk, literally called Willpower, allows him to ignore pain, fatigue, illness, hunger, and other distractions as long as he's focused. Hachiman notes that it is an incredibly useful Quirk for a corporate environment, but it could easily result in dying of overwork.
  • Monster Brother, Cutie Sister: Inverted. Saki is a Tomboy with a tough attitude, while Taishi is shy and mild-mannered.
  • Nice Guy: Even Hachiman begrudgingly admits that he seems like a generally harmless kid.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: A mild example when paired with Komachi.

    Director Konoe
  • Prima Donna Director: He's the director of an in-universe horror movie, is very invested in it's success, and is convinced in it's potential to become a classic that will change the genre forever.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He hires Cyberpunch and Hikigaya to solve a potential stalking case occurring on set. This allows Hikigaya to be present to intervene when Stain attacks Campestris. Saving Haruno's life, and ending the Hero Killer's murder spree.
    • He also stays to film Cyberpunch fighting the tongue Nomu, which gives Spinner a healthier role model and avoid his canon path of villainy.
  • Super-Toughness: His Quirk gives him a version of this that is so weak, it only allows him to avoid minor scrapes and paper cuts.

    Manaka
  • All Women Are Lustful: Is openly flirty with every guy she interacts with. Hikigaya description of her is "very heterosexual." He mentally notes that she spends some time running her eyes up and down his body when they first meet before she actually addresses him.
  • The Cutie: Hikigaya mentally notes that she's as pretty and innocent looking as Saika.
  • Brainless Beauty: Yukino seems to think so, saying she "has all the emotional depth of a puddle in the middle of a sunny day.”
  • Little Bit Beastly: Her Quirk gives her Hamster ears.
  • Only One Name: It's noted that 'Manaka' is the only name she goes by, as it's apparently a stage name for her acting career.
  • Rescue Romance: Narrowly Averted. Because of Hachiman’s innate cynicism, he believes Manaka invited him to the Hosu Charity Ball to score publicity points for herself after Tragic Marker’s production was shut down, therefore, he’s completely blind to the obvious fact that Manaka’s absolutely smitten with him. Unfortunately, he doesn’t realize this until he makes some rather bone-headed moves, and gets a slap for it.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: She follows Hikigaya and records Stain's rant on her phone camera for all the world to see.

    Murasame Taira
  • Bloody Murder: The "Blood Boost" variety. Hikigaya notes that he actually has a rather impressive combat-orientated Quirk–he gets tougher and stronger the more blood he loses.
  • Casanova Wannabe: He certainly thinks of himself as a ladies-man, but he also half-heartedly complains to Hachiman that women are "crazy" and he doesn't understand them. Which certainly explains the bone-headed idea of sending Haruno love letters.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Hikigaya manages to figure out he was the one behind the creepy notes sent to Haruno in an ill-conceived attempt at wooing her. Haruno was so bothered by this that it got Cyberpunch involved during Hachiman's internship, which inadvertently ended up saving Haruno's life. His letters also became conflated with Stain, which severely damaged his infamy as people were able to write him off as a crazy stalker.
  • Stalker with a Crush: He apparently became infatuated with Haruno during Tragic Marker's production and thought it was a great idea to try and woo her with love-poetry. All this amounted to was an investigation.

    Hiru Cain
  • Badass Normal: He has no combat ability beyond normal martial arts, but is noted to be skilled enough that he can defeat a Pro Hero in pure hand-to-hand.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: It's known that he was a Villain in England before becoming an actor, but the details are unknown.
  • Expy: He's a Skip Beat character introduced in this story to play a minor role in the Internship Arc.
  • Jerkass: He's disdainful to nearly everyone around him.
  • Mean Character, Nice Actor: Not for his Tragic Marker character, but for his "Cain Heel" stage persona. He's actually a very nice man.
  • Older Than They Look: His Quirk gives him a youthful appearance regardless of whatever age he is.
  • Stage Names: It's noted Hiru Cain or "Cain Heel" is not his real name. Those familiar with Skip Beat likely know his real one.

    Hiru Setsuna
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: Her Quirk manifests as wispy little sprites with shark-like teeth, and spirit tails that connect back to her much like Tokoyami and Dark Shadow. They are converted through strong emotions, with the stronger her emotion, the more sprites she can produce. Naturally, one of her sprites latches onto Hachiman and draws out his self-hatred over Zaimokuza's fate.
  • Big Brother Worship: Always refers to Cain as her big brother, and holds him as the best at anything he does. However, it's ambiguous if they are actually related in this story.
  • Expy: She's a Skip Beat character introduced to play a minor role in the Internship Arc.
  • Power Incontinence: Her fairy projections can sometimes manifest and get away from her without her realizing it.
