Life of Maid (Maid-san No Hibi) is a Touhou Project Slice of Life 4koma series from a doujinshi artist by the name of colonel_aki. This series stars the cast of the Scarlet Devil Mansion and their friends in the Magical Land of Gensokyo. For the most part, "speech" is expressed through images (while many strips are completely silent), with only a few background signs, and the humor is character- rather than pun-based, making the series "translate" well.

- Ass Shove: When Patchy gets sick in strip #15, Eirin prescribes a spring onion up the rear as treatment (a real folk remedy that people used to use in Japan). Patchy doesn't take it well.
- Bait-and-Switch: One strip has Sakuya going back to the SDM at night, walking through a dimly lit back alley. A shadowy figure creeps closer, and Sakuya looks back with a creepy anxious face... and it turns out to be just Kogasa trying to surprise Sakuya.
- Badass Biker: Zig-Zagged. Upon seeing a motorbike, Meiling imagines herself as one, though her reputation with vehicles is not the best in the world. She tries to ride it, and sure enough, she crashes into Nitori's lab. However, Nitori then fixes it up, and soon Meiling is driving it like a real off-road* champion. Two weeks after the fact, however, she finds herself washed up on a remote island, eventually to be found by fishermen.
- Beach Episode: Which is strange, since there are no oceans in Gensokyo.
- Berserk Button: Never, ever defile Meiling's ramen. It will not end well for you.
- Never mention Sakuya's pads if you don't want to end up knifed.
- If you live with Reimu, never play for the other team.
- Because it cannot be stressed strongly enough, do not mess with Yuuka's sunflowers!
- Sakuya makes this mistake when she visits Yuuka's flower shop. End result: she walks away the proud owner of a new pot of sunflowers.
- Beware the Nice Ones: Keine, who keeps a portable moon to were-ify herself and bring her wrath down on bad students.
- Big Eater: Yuyuko in spades.
- Butt-Monkey: Meiling happens to be the butt of most of the jokes, mostly involving Sakuya's knives.
- Rinnosuke, the unluckiest shopkeeper and food stand owner ever, the latter mostly because of the involvement of Yuyuko.
- When he was Santa and lost his coat, he was unfortunate enough to be caught by Youmu as he was standing over Yuyuko in his loincloth. Also, he's received Flandre's chocolates.
- Patchy also gets the short end of the Butt-Monkey stick a lot of the time. Virtually every time she goes out of the mansion (voluntarily or not), it ends in some kind of pain for her.
- Rinnosuke, the unluckiest shopkeeper and food stand owner ever, the latter mostly because of the involvement of Yuyuko.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: What Meiling wanted to be an SDM vs. Eientei volleyball match ends up as one in which Sakuya teams up with Eirin instead.
- Happens to Meiling when she unknowingly fights against Patchouli in Gensokyou Fighter IV, with Patchy getting a Flawless Victory, no less.
- Deep-Immersion Gaming: Gensokyou Fighter IV. Crosses over with Bland-Name Product.
- Defeat Means Friendship: Meiling and Shou. They meet, they fight over one last piece of item remaining on the shelf, they get Master Spark'd by Marisa, they settle things in the arcade, and after defeating each other one time each, they're playing Strawberry of the Dead on Co-op mode and brace themselves together for the incoming rage of their bosses for blowing their shopping money on the arcade.
- Distracted by My Own Sexy: Happens to Sakuya when she gets her new bra pads... for 8 HOURS.
- Dope Slap: Or rather Dope Punch when Patchouli tries to take the lazy way out of cleaning the mansion to earn her 3DS.

- Fright-Induced Bunkmate: The 100th strip has Remilia and Flandre going to sleep with Sakuya after getting spooked by a Dracula movie.
- Giving Them the Strip: Santa Rinnosuke tries this in an attempt to escape from Marisa. It works, but also leads to an extremely unfortunate Not What It Looks Like moment when Youmu walks in on him standing over a sleeping Yuyuko in his underwear while breathing hard...
- Heavy Sleeper: Meiling can usually be found sleeping at the front gate, but only seems to be able to sleep sitting up. This is so ingrained that her body seems to have memorized the position. At least until gravity kicks in.

- I Know Mortal Kombat: A likely Double Subversion. Meiling's driving skills are put to the test in a video game parody of Initial D. She does just as well as she does in real-life.
- Imagine Spot: A cold-addled Youmu has one where she thinks Yuyuko's moe-cow became a cow-youkai.
- In Name Only: This version of Gensokyo is basically modern Japan with youkai. This does, however, allow for a lot more variety in storylines and humor.
- Karma Houdini: Tewi has so far gotten away with breaking Nitori's Robo-Marisa that ended up messing with Patchouli and Alice and...bursting Patchouli's sea tube.
- Karma Houdini Warranty: Tewi's expires when she locks Remilia and Yuyuko in a shed. After seeing them in a "compromising" position, she opens the door... at which point Remilia unleashes a hungry Yuyuko on her.
- Kiss of Life: Hoped for by Patchouli from Marisa...
- Lethal Chef: Flandre in terms of making chocolate. Sakuya offers to help on Valentine's Day 2013, but ends up being shocked by her appalling cooking skills—and more so when the chocolate actually turns out decent that time!
- Love Triangle: Alice, Patchy and Marisa. Which promptly gets subverted when Marisa picks Reimu instead.
- Love Makes You Crazy: Or at least blind; Patchy and Alice are easily swayed by a robotic version of Marisa that Nitori made for a simple prank.
- Marshmallow Hell: Yuugi tries to comfort a lost and terrified Flandre, but...
- Me's a Crowd: Rinnosuke pretty much shows up in EVERY shop.
- Even in London, during a seminar for maids, he's freaking there. Sakuya finally notices his omnipresence.

- Meido: Sakuya. In the "World Maid" arc, Meiling replaces Sakuya as the Maid Chief and Youmu go to the titular, Shout-Out-filled seminar. Meiling starts by destroying the place.

- New Job as the Plot Demands: Youki Konpaku repeatedly shows up working various different jobs, apparently to foot Yuyuko's food bill. To date he has been: a construction worker, a pizza delivery man, a cashier, a ski lodge attendant, an actor (stage, television, and video game), a Mall Santa, a real Santa, and a soul collector working under Eiki Shiki (where he outperforms both Komachi and Koakuma).
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Nitori creates a robotic clone of Marisa to fool around with Patchy's emotions, which works very well. However, Tewi, befitting her troublesome nature, steals the control device in a fit of mischief. In fighting for the controls, they cause Robo-Marisa to flail wildly and eventually break its head off, much to Patchy and Alice's horror. Tewi (and Suwako, who was also involved), of course, runs away before Patchy and Alice find out who caused this whole mess.
- Oh, Crap!: Patchy's expression when she realizes she left her yaoi under her bed when Sakuya was cleaning her room.
- Shou and Meiling when they realize they spent their shopping money on the arcade...right as Sakuya and Byakuren are coming towards them.
- Original Character: One. A cow.
- Our Vampires Are Different: Remilia and Flandre turn out to be really scared of Dracula movies.
- Also, sunlight has no effect on them whatsoever.
- Pixellation: Meiling and Reisen as a result of the volleyball match.

- Robot Me: Nitori makes a Robo-Marisa to screw around with Patchy's emotions. Marisa herself is surprised to discover her robotic clone after its head falls off.
- The Runaway: The arc starting with #262 has Flandre running away from the mansion after she and Remilia get into a fight over the televisionnote , but ends up getting lost. In the end there's a tearful reunion thanks to Yugi.
- Running Gags:
- Sakuya's breast envy and her handy uses for time-stopping. She also tends to get caught up on things to the point she forgets about everything else, including feeding the rest of the SDM inhabitants.
- Meiling's crazy driving, her sleeping, and her being the recipient of Sakuya's most frequent wrath.
- Yuyuko's habit of cleaning out every food shop Rinnosuke owns and eating anything that even remotely looks like food.
- Rinnosuke running a random shop that pops up in a given strip. Lampshaded by Sakuya at a few points.
- Patchy's crush on Marisa, her endless quest for a DS only for a tragedy to befall said DS, her yaoi, and her hikikomori lifestyle in general.
- Reimu's ever-empty donation box and her competition with the Moriya Shrine.
- Marisa's habit of stealing things.
- Keine's portable moon and her CAVING tendencies.
- Mokou playing with old-school toys and games, mostly because Keine can't afford to give her as much as Kaguya and Patchy are able to buy.

There's Reimu as Ryu (as seen on the cabinet), Meimei (Meiling) as Chun-li, Pachii (Patchouli) as Cammy White, and Blaka (Cirno) as Blanka. The odd one out is the Sakuya version of Oswald.

- It's not a good idea to slack off in Keine's music class. She doesn't just transform, she gets possessed by the spirit of METAL—much like a certain teacher from a rather popular recent anime.
- Meiling's usual facial expression is a reference to Konata Izumi from Lucky Star.
- One of the more recent arcs has Patchy playing "Staff Art Online" with Kaguya and Mokou for hours on end, resulting in a severe case of bloodshot eyes.
- When Meiling crashes a broken kart in an amusement park, the world thinks it wasn't her time.
- When Remilia finds Meiling on the news, Flandre shows up to change the channel to her favorite happy and cheery magical girl anime.
- #354 has Meiling and Shou competing against each other in Strawberry of the Dead, both a Bland-Name Product-version of House of the Dead and one of colonel_aki's other doujinshis.

- Worst Aid: When Sakuya, Patchy and Remilia get sick, Meiling and Flandre take it upon themselves to "help" them—and are very bad at their job. Only the arrival of Reimu is enough to save them all.

woobie.- Case in point: Patchy finally gets a 3DS after working her ass off...only to have it almost eaten by Yuyuko just two strips later.
