Synchro Dimension

The Enforcers/Monarchs of Neo-Domino

Four duelists from the Commons banded together to bring peace between them and the Tops. Jack was originally sent into the Friendship Cup to become King, but after he was influenced by Roget, his fellow Enforcers intervened and placed Yusei as the head, and the four to help heal the divide between the two classes.

    In General
  • Adaptational Badass: All of them have some sort of strange power to them: Yusei controls electricity, Jack controls fire and Kalin can manipulate shadows. This is even noted in-universe as Armstrong, Grady and Carly note that there were rumors that they had special abilities.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Compare to their heterosexual canon counterparts, all four of them are in a four-way romantic relationship with each other.
  • Badass Crew: A group of four very talented duelists who brought about sweeping reforms to Neo-Domino.
  • Big Good: To the entirety of Neo Domino City, as they manage to bring order to the society by abolishing the City's highly competitive culture and threw a huge wrench into Roget's plans.
  • The Chosen One: They're chosen to be four of the five Signers by the Crimson Dragon.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: They either have dark-looking monsters or appearances, and they also have edgy-sounding nicknames, but they're all on the side of good.
  • The Dreaded: All of them are this to most of Neo-Domino. To give an example, seeing Kalin enter Bootleg — to get Yanagi away from Armstrong — has everyone in the bar run away in terror and for Grady and Carly to realize they're fucked.
  • Dub Name Change: Word of God kept their dub name for the group instead of the original Japanese one (Team Satisfaction), as she states that the Japanese name sounded stupid.
  • Hero of Another Story: Their story of how they manage to foil Roget's plans by taking back control of Neo Domino City and abolish the City's highly competitive culture is a tale worth telling.
  • Mythology Gag: In their backstory, they created a safe haven known as "Satisfaction Town", referencing the Crashtown arc.
  • Names To Run Away From Very Fast: If you ever hear someone utter their Red Baron when they arrive, that's as good as time as any to book it.
  • Phrase Catcher: Should any of them arrive in an area, someone will likely shout, "Oh my god, it's [Insert Red Baron of a certain member]!
  • Polyamory: All of them are a foursome of wholesome satisfaction.
  • Red Baron: All of them have badass titles: Kallen is "The Shinigami", Jack is "Hell's Harbinger"/"White Prince", Yusei is "Stardust Rider"/"King of Neo Domino" and Crow later gets "Black Omen". Crow even lampshades the fact that everyone else got cool names before him. Collectively, they're called the "Lords/Monarchs of Neo Domino".
  • Straight Gay: None of them display any stereotypical behaviors of homosexuals, as their personalities are relatively the same as their canon counterparts.

    Yusei Fudo

Yusei Fudo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yusei_fudo_2.png
The leader of the Enforcers, current champion of the Friendship Cup, and King of Neo Domino.
  • Affectionate Nickname: He's affectionally called "King" by his fellow Enforcers. Apparently, it started out as a joke by Jack but later Crow and Kalin joined in.
  • Demoted to Extra: Downplayed. He was the main protagonist of 5Ds, but is a Hero of Another Story in the fic.
  • Invincible Hero: After he became King of the Friendship Cup, he has never been beaten in a duel.
  • Must Have Caffeine: Inverted. Yusei is not allowed to have caffeine as it makes him even more of a workaholic. The last time this happened, it took Jack, Crow, and Kalin to fuck him to wear him down. The reader sees what happens first hand after Randsborgh accidentally leaves a cup out for Yusei with Crow and Kalin dogpiling him as he scrambles to get up and muttering he has to work. It's apparently so bad that Jack won't even risk giving Yusei an iced tea.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: The "Yusei with caffeine" moment with even Yusei complaining it was just one time.
  • Properly Paranoid: Was worried about the trouble Yanagi could get into when his fellow Enforcers reassured him the old man would be fine. Unfortunately, none of them counted on Armstrong barging in with some questions...
  • Shock and Awe: Has electrical abilities although they haven't been on display yet.
  • Tranquil Fury: When significantly pissed off, he's capable of making Jack Atlas fear for his life. The narration gives the analogy of a storm when Yusei is angry.
  • Workaholic: Yusei will work himself to death if it means making sure others don't have to suffer. It gets to the point that Jack has to pull him away and make him get some sleep. This is also very common as the other Enforcers have had to pull him away from work, whether it's papers, typing on the laptop, or just dragging him from tuning up their D-Wheels.

    Jack Atlas
See his page in the Original Dimension.

    Crow Hogan

Crow Hogan

Archetype: Blackwing

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/crow_hogan.png
A member of the Enforcers.
  • Blow You Away: His Blackwings are associated with the wind.
  • Insult Backfire: When Armstrong says that he can't tell why Yanagi is needed, Armstrong states that it would go over his [Crow] "boyfriend's little head". Crow retorts that, aside from Jack, Armstrong has to be more specific since he has three boyfriends.
  • Only Sane Man: Compared to his fellow Enforcers, he's the most level-headed of the group, even lampshading why he doesn't get some badass title for his own.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: After the wild goose chase against Armstrong and Yanagi and seeing the news crew asking what happens, Crow realizes that Yuseiwho was worried sick about what could happen to the old man — has just seen all of this and is going to blow a gasket.

    Kalin Kessler

Kalin Kessler

Archetype: Infernity

"Who wants to dance the dance of death?!"
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kalin_kessler.png
A member of the Enforcers.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Was a Dark Signer in the anime, but a Crimson Signer in the fanfic.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Does not have his Ax-Crazy tendencies from the anime.
  • Alliterative Name: Kalin Kessler.
  • Casting a Shadow: Is capable of summoning darkness, as he demonstrates with Carly. He also uses the Infernity archetype which is filled with DARK monsters. He is capable of summoning a dome of darkness that can capture others for a time out...and is horrified when Rin is capable of doing so. For reference, Jack states that not even he can break out without some exhaustion on his end!
  • Dub Name Change: Uses his dub name instead of his Japanese one (Kyosuke Kiryu) which makes him stand out to the other Enforcers keeping their original names.
  • Names To Run Away From Very Fast: Do you want to get on the bad side of the guy called Shinigami?!
  • Slasher Smile: See that smile on his profile? If he ever bears it, you're pretty much fucked.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: After learning about the Crimson Dragon Crusaders and how Armstrong (who had just kidnapped Yanagi) led Crow onto a goose chase that was seen on live television, all he can do is slam his head on a table knowing that Yusei is going to kill them.

The Crimson Dragon Crusaders

"This is a new chapter in the history of the Randsborg name for we [Randsborg, Grady, Armstrong, Yanagi, and Carly] are now a mighty group who are off to solve the mysteries of the Crimson Dragon. We have now become...the Crimson Dragon Crusaders!”

Five duelists from the Synchro Dimension came together after seeing Rin dueling Professor Frank and Akiza's Crimson Dragon mark on her arm, diving into the mysteries involving their dimension and those beyond it.

    In General
  • Ascended Extra: All five of them were secondary characters who had one duel throughout the entire series (barring Carly who had three). Grady gets this the most since he was brainwashed and had no personality or backstory to him.
  • Dub Name Change: Randsborg, Grady and Armstrong go by their dub names.
  • Hero of Another Story: Of the Synchro Dimension side of the fic, one where it involves the lore of the Crimson Dragon being unrelated to Ray and Zarc's revival, uncovering secrets of the Arcadia Movement, and subsequently learning that they're just one part of a bigger puzzle.
  • Interclass Friendship: All of them are from different social classes yet band together to investigate the secrets of their dimension.
  • Last-Name Basis: Randsborg, Armstrong, and Yanagi are usually addressed this way.
  • Non-Indicative Name: None of them are crusaders or connected to the Crimson Dragon.
  • The Quest: As Randsborg notes, their quest is to uncover the secrets of the Crimson Dragon, how Rin and Yugo are connected to Zarc, why the Arcadia Movement is so interested in these two and questioning how there are worlds beyond their very own.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: They consist of a knight, an archaeologist, a former member of Security, a street duelist with a fondness of milk, and a crossdressing reporter. Armstrong even lampshades that they're "a little ol' Breakfast Club".
  • True Companions: When Grady is set up to be killed by Rin (when she learns he's been spying on her), they decide to go after him when Jack proposes a duel for his fate.
  • The Unchosen One: Despite their group name, none of them are chosen by the Crimson Dragon. Instead, they're just a group made up of individuals who grew curious about the world around them after witnessing the duel between Rin and Professor Frank and seeing Akiza's Crimson Dragon mark.

    Gill Randsborg

Gill Randsborg

Archetype: Infernoble

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jilldelancebeaux.png

A duelist who hails from a legendary family of knights. He is the first to bring up the legend of Zarc and the Crimson Dragon to the Crusaders.

  • Adaptational Badass: He used LV monsters called Masked Knights in his only duel in the anime, while the narration states he uses Infernoble this time around.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Was an utter buffoon and believed that Akiza was a real witch in the anime, losing to her in a humiliating fashion. In the fanfic, he acts like the Team Dad for the Crimson Dragon Crusaders.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: He was Wrong Genre Savvy against Akiza in the anime, but here he knows well enough not to start Bullying a Dragon against her.
  • Bling of War: His knight armor is gold.
  • Cool Uncle: Implied; he got a visit from his nephew and niece before he arrived in Bootleg in Chapter 6 (Part 2).
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Golden hair and is a gentleman.
  • Hero of Another Story: His family has knowledge not only of Zarc but also of the Earthbound Immortals and Crimson Dragon. What else have they been hiding?
  • Knight in Shining Armor: Wears golden armor and is a chivalrous character through and through. Fittingly, he uses the Infernoble archetype.
  • Large Ham: As befitting a knight, he likes to go on flowery tangents.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Played for Laughs. After he and Yanagi are allowed to bunk with the Enforcers to learn more about their powers, he left a mug of coffee for Yusei...not aware that Yusei must not have caffeine and has to see his fellow Enforcers dogpile Yusei before he works himself to death.
Randsborg: How was I supposed to know?!
  • The Nicknamer: Gives each of his fellow Crusaders different titles, "Valiant Grady", "She of Fair Eyes", etc.
  • Playing with Fire: He is said to have used Infernoble monsters, which are FIRE type.
  • Stroke the Beard: Does this as a Character Tic when in deep thought (even though, as the image shows, he doesn't have one).
  • Ye Olde Butchered English: Speaks in this as part of being a knight.

    Dick Pitt (Grady)

Dick Pitt (Grady)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dick_pitt.jpg

A street duelist with a level head and a fondness for milk. He's the reconnaissance man who spies on Rin and Yugo about their powers.

  • Adaptation Personality Change: Had little to no personality in the anime and his only personality came from being a brainwashed goon for Yusei to duel. Here, he's the level-headed member and he's known to be concerned for whatever Carly is getting into and will protect her if she gets into trouble.
  • Awesome by Analysis: Knew that Xavier Maxa was Carly in disguise by picking up on his habits: stating that being near Armstrong was like living in the Pits (Carly's boss was Mr. Pitt) and bringing up Blue Eyes Mountain Coffees (an expensive brand that Carly knew Jack liked in the anime)
  • Ascended Extra: In the anime, he was a Brainwashed and Crazy Villain of the Week for Yusei to duel and didn't have any backstory or personality. Here he is one of the main supporting characters of the Synchro arc, his character mainly revolves around his friendship with Carly and both of them frequently help the heroes.
  • Bash Brothers: He and Carly may be polar opposites, but they work well as a team and have a knack for being The Strategist and taking down enemy forces flawlessly.
  • Crazy-Prepared: By the time Rin vs Akiza happens, he made it a habit to carry a parka and some coffee on him since he knows that Rin's ice powers are not to be trifled with.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: He and Carly are on the receiving end of one against Kalin.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Wears black and red and has black hair, but he's level-headed and has no malicious bone in his body.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Comes in to save Xavier Maxa from getting a beatdown from Armstrong to showcase that he's a mediator. This becomes much more meaningful when the reader learns that he knows that Xavier is actually Carly in disguise.
  • Guile Hero: Goads Commander Koda to spill the beans about Akiza by spinning a lie about how Rin could come and freeze his ass off since Rin and Akiza started to become best friends.
  • Hidden Depths: He trained under "Enjoy" Chojiro in diffusing fights according to the narration.
  • In-Series Nickname: Insists on being called "Grady" instead of his birth name.
  • Lactose over Liquor: He loves drinking milk, explaining that it doesn't give you jitters like caffeine. At Bootleg, he's always ordering a glass.
  • Like Brother and Sister: His relationship with Carly in a nutshell as he wants to make sure she doesn't go over her head in regards to her investigations into Arcadia.
  • Making a Splash: All that's known about his deck so far is that it's Water-based.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: He and Carly apparently fought off Arcadia Movement goons during Rin and Akiza's duel in the Friendship Cup.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Shares this look with Carly when Yanagi busts into Bootleg with Armstrong chasing after him and then when Kalin and Crow arrive also wanting Yanagi.
    • When he learns that Rin has found out he's been spying on her and Yugo, he basically realizes he's going to die. Thankfully Jack steps in and proposes a duel to determine whether or not Rin has his head. The duel ends in a tie, thankfully.
  • Only Sane Man: Compared to the knight, the eccentric archaeologist, the grumpy Security guard, and the crossdressing reporter, he's considered to be the normal one. Armstrong even calls him "a level head".
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: He is the no-nonsense and level-headed savvy guy to Carly's energetic girl.
  • Sweet Tooth: He's known to like pudding.
  • Take Me Instead: Decides to take whatever punishment Kalin wants to inflict on him and Carly when Kalin accidentally touches Carly's chest — as she was disguised as Xavier at the time — but Kalin decides not to as they weren't his target.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: After Armstrong bursts into Bootleg to apprehend Yanagi that culminates in Kalin and Crow also wanting the same old man, Grady can only react like this before he drinks his glass of milk and spits it in Kalin's face so Armstrong gets time to take Yanagi away and Crow chases after them.
  • You Called Me "X"; It Must Be Serious: Xavier calling Grady by his real name causes him to step back in fear. Especially since Grady knows that it's Carly saying that to him.

    Mr. Armstrong

Armstrong

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrarmstrong.png

A former member of Security who, despite not really interested in the magic and nonsense, decides to tag along since he's got nothing better to do and accidentally kickstarts the investigations of his dimension.

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Upon seeing that Xavier had a Fortune Lady deck, he cackles at how he lost to a Fabled deck seeing as he would've had his ass handed if Xavier used the former.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Was a Hate Sink in the anime, to the point that Goodwin was disgusted by him. Here he's a bit of a grump and would rather not get involved with the chaos of the Synchro Dimension, but joins in when things start to get too deep. Moreover his antagonism with Yanagi in the story is more on poor communication than him being a jerk who loved picking on him.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: Instead of a huge jerkwad, he's more of a grump but not 100% a dick.
  • Character Tics: Blowing nose hairs out in public.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has very snarky remarks to all of the magic and mysticism that the group faces.
  • Debt Detester: Only helping out with the crazy investigations because he hates giving out favors.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: During Rin and Professor Frank's duel, he questions what's so important about Rin that the Professor is trying to hypnotize her. In fact, it's this question that spurs the Crimson Dragon Crusaders to do some investigating on their own.
  • Everyone Has Standards: He's an unpleasant jerk to be around but he has low esteem for Jean-Michel Roget and thinks that Professor Frank brainwashing Rin (a 14-year-old girl) is low. In fact, he personally was going to stop the duel himself if it continued. He also showed concern when Akiza's arm started to glow with her Crimson Dragon Mark.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: The details of his duel against Xavier are vague but all we know is that his milling strategy ended up backfiring on him when Xavier's Fabled Leviathan was destroyed and he was able to retrieve three Fabled monsters from the graveyard (one of them being The Fabled Catsith).
  • Mister Exposition: He knows the most about Rin and Yugo and later reveals that he has heard rumors about Security having Polymerization and Fusion Monsters.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Nearly gets Grady and Carly into loads of trouble when he antagonizes Yanagi without explaining why he was chasing after the old man. Not helping that Crow and Kallen were also chasing him down since they knew each other in the past. He realizes his mistake when he learns how Crow has a Crimson Dragon mark.
  • Oh, Crap!: Has this look when he's chased by Crow who has just summoned one of his Assault Blackwings to kick his ass.
    Armstrong: Shiiiiit!
  • Poor Communication Kills: Chases after Yanagi without explaining that he needs Yanagi's info about the Crimson Dragon nearly got him, Grady, and Carly into loads of trouble when Kalin and Crow arrived at Bootleg and also needing Yanagi's help.
  • Related in the Adaptation: He says he's cousins with Lucas Swank.
  • Sore Loser: Subverted; he got mad when he lost to Xavier, but keeps his cool and left the arena without inciting a brawl.
  • Spanner in the Works: Who would've thought that Armstrong would be the one to kickstart the Synchro Arc?
    • Armstrong's question on why Professor Frank wants to psycho-analyze Rin (who is from the Commons), combined with Akiza's Crimson Dragon Mark appearing, leads to the formation of the Crimson Dragon Crusaders.
    • Him chasing after Yanagi around the same time Kallen and Crow want him leads to the Crusaders working with the Monarchs of Synchro to investigate what's really going on with Zarc, the Arcadia Movement and Roget.

    Tenzin Yanagi

Tenzin Yanagi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tenzen_yanagi.png

An eccentric archaeologist who travels the world gathering a museum of Duel Monster Cards and a fountain of knowledge in regards to the Crimson Dragon.

  • Big Eater: He planned to have "three bowls of Oden" before he was going to see Yusei.
  • Commonality Connection: He gets along great with Randsborg as they're both knowledgeable about different fields relating to Duel Monsters.
  • Cool Old Guy: He's a jovial fellow, the eldest member of the Crusaders, and is the least serious member of the five.
  • Hero of Another Story: Whatever he's seen throughout his travels must be very interesting.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: Is good friends with Crow and Kalin, having met them when they were imprisoned in the Facility. He also extends this to the other Crusaders as he's the oldest.
  • Oh, Crap!: Has this look when Armstrong appears demanding answers. He hightails it out of there while screaming at the top of his lungs.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Oden. Armstrong was able to track him down because of this. Sure enough, Yanagi had finished about three bowls before Armstrong arrived for questions.
  • Walking the Earth: Traveled to find the mystery behind the Crimson Dragon.

    Carly Nagisa

Carly Nagisa

Archetype: Fortune Lady

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/carlynagisa.png

A freelance reporter who is investigating the Arcadia Movement to find the whereabouts of her friend, Misty Lola's, little brother, Toby Lola.

She also has a disguise as "Xavier Maxa", see tropes below for him.

  • Adaptational Badass: Only had one victory — back when she was a Dark Signer — but she was able to beat Armstrong and destroyed Akiza's Black Rose Dragons twice due to the effects of her cards.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Does not have a crush on Jack Atlas in this setting — as he's in a polyamorous relationship with the other Enforcers — but has a sibling-like relationship with Grady.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: Much more assertive as she was able to get her former boss fired and also snarkier than in canon.
  • Abandoned Catchphrase: In her first chapter \"Enter the Dragon\" Carly as Xavier adopted a Catchphrase. \"Everything has a Dual- Nature.\" this has been since dropped as something her disguise would say, and not something she herself repeats.
  • Berserk Button: Professor Frank using her catchphrase while he's brainwashing Rin causes her to snap. She also does not like casual sexism as she tells Randsborg when she's disguised as Xavier, to stop thinking of women as if they're from the Middle Ages.
  • Catchphrase: "Everything has a dual nature".
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: She and Grady duel Kalin to buy Armstrong some time to get away with Yanagi and get their asses handed to them.
  • Fortune Teller: Carries her Fortune Lady deck and uses it to read others' fortunes. Randsborgh draws Fortune Lady Past.
  • In-Series Nickname: "(S)he of fair eyes" by Randsborgh due to her green-grey eyes.
  • Interclass Friendship: She's a middle-class reporter who is friends with the fashion model Misty Lola and also is close to street-duelist Grady.
  • Intrepid Reporter: Just like in the anime, she's a reporter investigating Arcadia Movement. Unlike in the anime, she's much more competent and confident in herself.
  • Master of Disguise: She's usually investigating while under disguise. Aside from Xavier Maxa, she also infilitrates the Arcadia Movement as a janitor.
  • Must Have Caffeine: Is constantly drinking coffee due to how she was doing this for her old boss. Grady immediately knew that "Xavier Maxa" was her when he brought up "Blue Eyes Mountain Coffee".
  • Not a Morning Person: She doesn't like waking up in the mornings.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Teamed up with Grady to duel Arcadia Movement goons during Rin vs Akiza.
  • Oh, Crap!: She and Grady have this look when Yanagi busts into Bootleg, followed by Armstrong and then followed by Kallen and Crow.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only female of the Crimson Dragon Crusaders.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Dresses up as a guy but only so she can get close to Akiza and find out more about her.

Xavier Maxa

Archetype: Fabled

Carly's identity when she dueled against Akiza in the underground tournament.

  • Canon Character All Along: Xavier turns out to be Carly in disguise.
  • Cool Shades: Overlaps with Sunglasses at Night, Xavier wears a pair of black sunglasses when dueling to keep his identity secret.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: Doesn't win against Akiza but he does make her go down to half her life points and destroyed her Rose Dragons twice.
  • The Gadfly: Most of his dialogue in his duel just amounts to "make witty remarks to piss off Akiza".
  • The Glasses Come Off: Removes them when he tells Randsborg to stop living in the Middle Ages and think that all women are either princesses to be rescued, witches to be executed or lost souls who need to see the light.
  • Good Wears White: A bit of Foreshadowing that this is Carly — her Xavier outfit is wearing a white shirt, and she's a good person.
  • Light 'em Up: Used the Fabled archetype which are all LIGHT monsters.
  • Light Is Not Good: Zigzagged; the Fabled monsters are a bunch of a-holes, as Xavier explains to Randsborgh, but Xavier/Carly is a good-hearted person.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Defeated Armstrong in the underground tournament due to using Fabled Leviathan and The Fabled Caitsith.
  • Samus Is a Girl: Xavier is actually Carly in disguise.
  • Shout-Out: He's named after a character from Green Phantom Queen's own story Between My Brother and Me: Mors Omnibus.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: His reaction to fighting Akiza is knowing that he's gonna die.
  • Walking Spoiler: Xavier is thought to be an OC character in the story and just there to show how dangerous Akiza is; he's anything but some one-episode character.
  • Wig, Dress, Accent: To disguise herself as Xavier, Carly just wears a long white blouse, a leather jacket, jeans, a short wig, and shades.

Arcadia Movement and Associates

    Divine

Divine

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/divine_9.png

The leader of the Arcadia Movement. His organization offers a refuge for psychic duelists rejected by society but conducts experiments on people with psychic potential at the same time.

  • Big Bad: Of the Synchro Dimension side of the fic.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Chapter 24 reveals that he's teamed up with Roget to overthrow The Monarchs and take control of Neo Domino City.
  • Evil Mentor: To Akiza and the Psychic Duelists of the Arcadia Movement.
  • Evil Redhead: Like in canon, he's a redhead and is aiming to take over Neo Domino City.

    Akiza Izinski

Akiza Izinski

Archetype: Black Rose

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akiza_izinski.png

The Black Rose Witch and The Dragon to Divine of the Arcadia Movement.

She plays a "Black Rose" Plant Deck.

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: She doesn't have a crush on Yusei nor befriend him in the fic, since not only is Yusei in a polyamorous relationship with the other Enforcers, but they're technically enemies due to Divine's plans to overthrow the Monarchs and take control of Neo Domino City.
  • Act Natural: The first time Akiza arrived at Rin and Yugo\'s doorsteps wanting to be friends, she acted ridged and formal, which was due to her not knowing how to act friendly around new people. She later shows her true self as she spends more and more time with Rin and Yugo, and putting her at ease.
  • Anti-Villain: Even though she's a violent duelist with a terrifying reputation, deep down, she's a scared girl being manipulated by Divine who only wants to be loved.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Is this during her duel with Rin, causing her to become much more violent than usual.
  • The Chosen One: She's chosen to be a Signer by the Crimson Dragon.
  • Composite Character: Is basically her anime self but she uses the cards that her manga counterpart had (White Rose Cloister and Black Rose Moonlight Dragon)
  • Dark Action Girl: She is a very skilled and deadly female Duelist.
  • The Dreaded: She's known as the "Black Rose Witch", and is a very powerful Duelist who strikes fear into many people.
  • In-Series Nickname: Usually goes by Akiza, but Rin calls her "Aki" for short.
  • Interclass Friendship: She's one for Rin and later Yugo, as the latter two are of lower-middle-class Commons while she's an important member of the Arcadia Movement, with enough wealth to shop at the malls in the Tops.
  • It Was a Gift: It's heavily implied that Black Rose Moonlight Dragon is from her mother.
  • Mythology Gag: Her friendship with Rin and Yugo is a reminiscence of her canon counterpart's sibling-like friendship with Luna and Leo in 5Ds, which the former two are Composite Characters of the twins.
  • Red Baron: "Black Rose Witch"
  • Something about a Rose: The archetype she uses, has numerous Rose Dragons, she's called "Black Rose Witch", etc.
  • The Smurfette Principle: With the Enforcers all having the other Crimson marks this time, she's the only female.
  • Token Evil Teammate: She's a Crimson Signer, but is currently aligned with the Arcadia Movement.
  • Token Good Teammate: Is the only known member of the Arcadia Movement who's not amoral nor wants to take over a city, but acts out of loyalty for Divine.

    Professor Frank

Professor Frank

Archetype: None

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/frank_03.png

A scholar researching the phenomena of different worlds, hired by Divine to learn more about Rin. Unfortunately, he didn't learn anything but he did cause a lot of other people to become interested in this green-haired girl.

He plays a Psychoanalysis-themed Disruption Deck whose cards are based on various aspects of the Eponymous School of Thought as seen with the cornerstone card, "Ido the Supreme Magical Force". These cards have various effects from revealing the opponent's cards to effect damage.

  • Adapted Out: His psychotic personality and desires in wanting to take over the Spirit World are omitted.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Constantly spouts "Everything has a dual nature" in his duel against Rin, causing Xavier to snap.
  • Dissonant Serenity: He always has a calm smile on his face even as he's hypnotizing Rin.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Looks and acts like a calm professor...really is a sadist who doesn't mind brainwashing a little girl.
  • Hate Sink: A sadistic man who would put a young girl into a vulnerable position, not unlike rape that causes Armstrong (who is not a nice man himself) to feel disgusted by this behavior.
  • Light Is Not Good: His strongest monster is LIGHT attribute but he is not a nice man.
  • Mythology Gag: He duels against a green-haired girl with spiritual powers and tries to put her in a trance as he did to Luna in the original 5Ds series.
  • Near-Villain Victory: Nearly had Rin under his spell, but didn't expect her Duel Monster Freya to contact Yugo who sprints in just in the nick of time.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Trying to put Rin in a trance only caused Zarc to get significantly pissed off which, combined with Yugo arriving to wake Rin up, just gets Rin mad and wipe the floor with him. Moreover, his actions also got half of the duelists participating in the Fortune Cup to start doing investigations on their own (especially when Armstrong asks why he's even doing this in the first place) and team up with the Monarchs of Neo Domino and leading to discover even more shady things going on. Whoops!
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He only appears for one duel against Rin, but this duel sets the stage for the Synchro Dimension as it brings the Crimson Dragon Crusaders together to uncover the mysteries surrounding their city, Akiza's Crimson Dragon mark appears and it drives Rin to make Yugo close to her by any means necessary. It's also very clear that his actions still affect Rin, and heighten her paranoia and distrust of others like the new professors she meets in the Archadia Movement.
  • Uncertain Doom: It's unknown if Rin killed him after punching him with an ice-laced punch.
