Ashikabi of the North

    Minato Sahashi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ch01_minato.png
Voiced by: Shinnosuke Tachibana (JP), Joel McDonald (EN)

The Ashikabi of the North. He has failed college entrance exams twice, due to his inability to deal with pressure. As a result, he's considered as an idiot and a loser. His life changes immensely when he first meets Musubi and becomes her Ashikabi. As he gains more Sekirei over the course of the story due to his kind heart, he becomes a pivotal and powerful player in the Sekirei Plan.

Sekirei: Musubi, Tsukiumi, Matsu, Kusano, Kazehana, and Homura

  • Above the Influence: Minato is trying his best to remain a gentleman... even with all his Sekirei hitting on him.
  • Accidental Pervert: Erotic accidents are ought to happen when his harem has several Shameless Fanservice Girls.
  • Act of True Love:
    • One of the reasons why his love for his Sekirei is proven to be the strongest among Ashikabi is that he'll readily stand up to enemy Sekirei or the MBI's forces in order to defend his own Sekirei even though he knows he's weak and won't ever stand a chance in a fight without his Sekirei protecting him.
    • When Minato tells Kagari he wants him to become his Sekirei, Kagari refuses him because he believes Minato must just be trying to get him to increase his Sekirei numbers and is probably taking pity on a "broken" Sekirei with no control over his own powers and physical sex. Minato then jumps into Kagari's flames and gets burned by giving Kagari a Cooldown Hug to stop Kagari from burning himself to ashes. This makes Kagari understand Minato is not trying to help him out of pity; he genuinely cares about Kagari and wants him to live as himself.
  • Action Survivor: He has no special powers of his own beyond being able to wing his Sekirei. Still, he's gutsy enough to put his life on the line on the battlefield.
  • All-Loving Hero: He has unlimited compassion and will lend a hand to anyone in trouble.
  • Always Save the Girl: He cares about the safety and happiness of his Sekirei before anything else.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He feels protective towards his little sister Yukari, but in the past he was bad at following through with it. He's doing a much better job with Kuu.
  • Big Good: He becomes the biggest force of good in the Sekirei Plan for being the most benevolent of the territory leaders and having a lot of very powerful Sekirei.
  • Bigger Is Better in Bed: Of the girls, Matsu and Kazehana were the most excited when they first saw Minato naked for the first time and seeing that he is hung like crazy. While Musubi and Kusano are too innocent to understand, Tsukiumi tries to divert herself in shyness while Homura tries to ignore it, but Matsu giggles obscenely in delight while stating that the "data" down there is MUCH MORE than she'd expected, and Kazehana smiles obscenely in absolute delight seeing how manly her husband is down there.
  • Blood-Splattered Innocents: In the manga, Uzume dies in his arms. He's left covered in her blood, shocking the others when they return home.
  • Book Smart: Even though he's a two-time Rōnin, Matsu reveals Minato had top scores up to the end of high school. When Matsu gives him a sample college entrance exam (which she made extra hard on purpose), he aces it entirely, causing her to wonder how the heck he failed the real deal twice.
  • Butt-Monkey: Minato's never safe from the suffering his mother and sister put him through.
  • Calling the Old Woman Out: Subverted when Minato finally calls out Takami while protecting his Sekirei. She's proud of him for what he's done, but, being the troll she is, ends up arresting him and the Sekirei anyway.
  • Can't Live with Them, Can't Live Without Them: Since most of his Sekirei sleep in his room initially, Minato got scolded by Miya almost every morning when she caught them all together in his bed. Eventually, Miya gives all of Minato's Sekirei separate rooms to solve the problem. Ironically, even though his Sekirei made it hard for him to sleep with all their snuggling, Minato finds it even harder to fall asleep without them sharing his bed.
  • Chick Magnet: He's gained the affections of 6 Sekirei in his harem. All the girls find him very handsome.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: He's a good guy and a gentleman, but there are moments where he does give in to temptation towards his Sekirei. And considering how all of them try hitting on him despite him trying to be modest, it's not all that surprising he'd give in on occasion. He does love and respect his Sekirei as individuals, expressing disgust at other Ashikabi's such as Higa who use their Sekirei's for their own selfish purposes. He also will not take advantage of Kusano since she's a child and was very disturbed when she tried to hit on him and let him stare at her chest.
  • Classical Anti-Hero: At the start of the series, he's a down-on-his-luck Rōnin without any self-confidence nor courage. As the series progresses, he becomes braver and more heroic because he gains the will to win the Sekirei Plan and not allow himself to lose any of his Sekirei.
  • Closet Key: Kagari wanted a female Ashikabi, but his body reacted to Minato on its own. Despite some initial reluctance, Kagari accepts Minato as his Ashikabi and joins his Sekirei harem.
  • Cooldown Hug: Gives a literal one to an overloaded, suicidal Homura. Lampshaded after he attempts to resolve a conflict by hugging Uzume.
Homura: Is hugging....one of your specialties or something?
  • Cowardly Lion: Normally meek and insecure, but when push comes to shove he's stood his ground against enemy Sekirei without a second thought.
  • Dare to Be Badass: After Uzume's termination, Miya tells him there's only one way to restore the broken bonds of defeated Sekirei.
Miya: Hope lies in the last remaining one who has overcome every catastrophe since the time of legends. Sahashi-san, do you have the courage to take that position?
  • Declaration of Protection: He wants to protect the Sekirei who eventually choose him.
  • Deconstructed Character Archetype: Of the standard Harem Seeker trope. While the average Harem Seeker usually wants to build a harem due to their perverted behavior and love for women in general, Minato showcases what it would be like to be forced into a situation with girls in a life or death situation and actually has to seek out the harem to prevent them from dying. So in a sense, he only forms a harem because they need his help even if in the long run they fall for him after joining the harem.
  • The Dreaded: Minato is surprised to learn people are 'terrified'' of the "Ashikabi of the North". Suffice to say, he doesn't live up to his reputation.
  • The Dulcinea Effect: Minato protects Musubi, Kusano, and Tsukiumi in their first meetings with him, even risking his life for them in the cases of Musubi and Kusano.
  • Excellent Judge of Character: He's rarely wrong about people, seeing the good in the Jerk with a Heart of Gold while steering clear of the Manipulative Bastard trying to make friends.
  • From Zero to Hero: He went from an unlucky ronin college school student to a powerful Ashikabi involved in the Sekirei Plan.
  • Gag Penis: Matsu is rather.....pleased the first time she sees Minato naked.
Matsu: But Mina-tan, the data down here is much more than I expected..!
  • Game-Breaker: An in-universe example. Minato gets called out by Higa as being one during the 4th stage of the Sekirei Plan; thinking that Minaka had purposefully set the system up so that Minato would end up with a majority of the top-level Sekirei.
  • Generation Xerox: As shown by Miya, Minato's ancestor was an ordinary human who also had at least eight Sekirei in his harem (most of which strongly resembled the ones in Minato's own harem).
  • Girl on Girl Is Hot: He was notably shocked and slightly turned on seeing Matsu and Musubi (accidentally) kiss each other.
  • Good Is Not Dumb: Once Matsu hammers into him how capable he is, he begins taking an active role in strategy and tricking the enemy.
  • Go Through Me: He shields his injured Sekirei from attackers on multiple occasions, refusing to back down even from the very real possibility of being squished like a bug.
  • Grew a Spine: He starts off as somewhat of a pushover who only gets dragged into the mess with the Sekirei. His experiences and love for his Sekirei have allowed him to become a much more dependable person, impressing Seo with his determination.
  • Guile Hero: Thanks to Matsu, he's finally realizing how to best take advantage of his Non-Action Guy status. He's managed to run a gambit on Higa, and came up with effective strategies to outsmart enemies.
  • Harem Seeker: Unlike most examples he does this either to help them (which he ends up winging them) or because they choose to be with him because they love him. He effectively chooses the latter because of his love for everyone in his harem.
  • Heroic Bastard: His mother keeps refusing his father's requests to get legally married. While a bastard, Minato is one of the best people one could ever meet.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Since he lacks confidence in himself, he states it's his desire to become "someone worthy" of the faith everyone has in him.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: He has a reputation as a Depraved Bisexual among the Ashikabi community, due to his harem. People are shocked to learn the Ashikabi of the North is a pretty mild guy.
  • Hope Bringer: He's decided to win the Sekirei Plan for the sake of freeing all Sekirei, becoming an inspiration for those who believe in him.
  • House Husband: He handles all manner of household chores, and generally plays the supportive domestic to his Sekirei.
  • Humble Hero: Despite all his accomplishments, he remains entirely modest and humble with all his achievements.
  • I Didn't Mean to Turn You On: All of Minato's Sekirei were already turned on from simply being around him due to their reactions to him.
  • If It's You, It's Okay: He's generally heterosexual, yet he makes Kagari his sixth Sekirei while fully embracing Kagari's male identity and has no intention of changing his gender.
  • Incorruptible Pure Pureness: He experiences temptations, but his moral compass is strong enough that he rejects them.
  • Insecure Love Interest: He often worries that a Non-Action Guy Rōnin like him doesn't deserve a harem of hot Action Girlfriends. In Sekirei - 365 Days Without Her, Kazehana correctly guesses Minato feels inferior towards Minaka, his father, who was her First Love and he sees himself as her second choice. Even though Kazehana already thinks he's a great man, Minato promises Kazehana he will become a man even more amazing than his father so he can make her happy.
  • Just the Way You Are: As Kagari's Ashikabi, Minato has the power to determine his gender and mentality, but chooses to let Kagari remain who he is for now.
  • Karmic Jackpot: He started out as a total loser unable to get accepted into college and lacking confidence in himself. After meeting Musubi and winging other Sekirei's, he gets to live at the Izumo Inn and labeled at the Ashikabi of the North, becomes feared for his group of powerful Sekirei's. Even more notable is that aside from finally ending the Sekirei Plan for good, he will get to live a happy life with all his Sekirei and live as a happy family with them all.
  • The Leader: He's capable of formulating strategies and thinking on the fly to guide his Sekirei to victory in battle.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: He's only told key info when absolutely necessary. Otherwise, he's kept in the dark. For example, he initially knows absolutely nothing about his father, unlike pretty much every single other character. When Higa accuses him of gaining so many powerful Sekirei because of his father, Minato is understandably confused.
  • Loser Protagonist: Initially comes off as one, having failed his college entrance exam twice and being unemployed and all, but it's proven that he was never one at all. He possesses a near genius level IQ and proves himself to be The Paragon time and time again.
  • Lust Object: Excluding Kusano who's too innocent to understand, and Homura who keeps his relationship with Minato cordial at best, everyone in the harem is very perverted for Minato and very eager to sleep with him, only to be thwarted by Miya with her threatening to kick them out if they do so (at least till the Sekirei Plan ends for good). Matsu and Kazehana take the cake, being the most perverted of the girls. Matsu loves to pounce on Minato and try to "experiment" on his body via sex, while Kazehana loves to show off her body and use her assets on him in any way possible, going as far as to proclaim she and Minato will engage in "something wet and sticky" after a kiss (which is her way of saying sex).
  • Magnetic Hero: He has a way of bringing together other Ashikabi, who are inherently rivals due to the nature of the game.
  • A Man Is Always Eager: Subverted. He's generally more flustered and nervous about the idea of sex than most of his harem.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: The feminine boy to his sister Yukari's masculine girl. Minato is quite meek and polite, in contrast to his hot-headed brute of a sister.
  • Memetic Molester: While discussing over-the-top ideas about the major powers in the Game, a group of Ashikabi express their fear of being molested by the Ashikabi of the North.
  • Mistaken for Badass: Due to various rumors around him, many characters believe him to be very strong and powerful due to being the Ashikabi of the North, unaware that he's very a plain and ordinary guy with six very powerful Sekirei.
  • Nice Guy: A kindhearted, thoughtful, selfless, brave and understanding guy all around. His kindness is also the is the primary reason all the girls (even Kagari who is a man) are attracted to him is because of his kind heart.
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: The Nice to Higa's Mean and Mikogami's In-Between. Minato is the kindest and most compassionate of the three Ashikabi territory leaders. His Sekirei all chose him because of his good heart and he treats them all with the biggest love and care he can give them.
  • Non-Action Protagonist: Minato has no fighting ability, and spends most of the early series leaving the action to his Sekirei. Later on, he graduates into being something of an Action Survivor, as while he still does almost no fighting on his own, he becomes much more active on the battlefield when supporting his Sekirei.
  • Nose Bleed: A Running Gag is Minato getting a nosebleed when he sees something naughty with his harem and nearly passes out from it.
  • Not So Weak: Minato is often pushed around by his sister and mother, but stands up for his Sekirei and friends when it counts.
  • The Paragon: Routinely shows himself to be devoted to helping others and inspiring them to improve themselves, regardless of who they are or if it means putting his life on the line.
  • Performance Anxiety: Despite being a Rōnin, he's actually an excellent student. He's just bad at doing tests under pressure. Once he learns to believe in himself, he grows out of this and can get into university.
  • Power of Trust: He considers himself unreliable, but inspires trust in others. His faith in others is almost always rewarded.
  • Pretty Boy: He's a slender, boyishly-handsome young man, though unlike some of the other Ashikabi, his feminine looks emphasize his own apparent weakness rather than his attractiveness. Regardless, everyone in his harem find him handsome.
  • Properly Paranoid: When he went to Seo for help with the ordeal with Higi and Kuno, Minato correctly guessed he would try to make them pay him for his help. So he calls Miya before hand and forces him to help for free or else he won't get any more free meals at the Izumo Inn.
  • Protectorate: All of his Sekirei have the main purpose of protecting him.
  • Punched Across the Room:
    • Of all Sekirei he has, ironically, Kagari is the only one who punched him to the point he fainted for a while.
    • Tsukiumi also did the same but using her water.
  • Red Baron: "The Ashikabi of the North". In fitting with the others that control a territory, he's also sometimes called "Minato of the North".
  • Ridiculously Average Guy: Downplayed. At the start of the series, he seems like any other average Rōnin protagonist with no outstanding traits or skills. However, it's revealed he does excel academically and only failed his college entrance exams because of his Performance Anxiety.
  • Rōnin: He has failed college entrance exams twice.
  • Screw Destiny: Determined to do this, and earn a happy ending for all the Sekirei and their Ashikabi.
  • Second Love: Years ago, Kazehana fell in love with Minaka, but got rejected. She doesn't even try finding an Ashikabi again until she reacts to Minato. After seeing Minato's love and dedication towards his Sekirei, Kazehana is moved and chooses Minato as her new love.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The Sensitive Guy to Seo and Kagari's Manly Men. Minato is meek and shy around women, in contrast to Seo and Kagari who are both more self-confident and have lots of experience with women already.
  • Sexual Karma: Because he's such a Nice Guy, Minato quickly gains a total of six Sekirei's, at least four are extremely beautiful and attractive woman, who are all powerful in their own right, have large breasts, and are all deeply in love with him and all desire to marry him.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: A few years after becoming the head of MBI's Sekieri Plan shows him occasionally wearing glasses and becomes much smarter.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: "I'm happily hetero!" Unconvincingly said by Minato to Tsukiumi to try reassure her when she thinks he's cheating on her with Kagari.
  • Tell Me About My Father: He attempted to ask about his father, but Takami understandably refuses, given his father is the Big Bad.
  • Thanks for the Mammary: Happens accidentally to him a few times (mostly Musubi, Matsu, Tsukiumi and Kazehana). It even happens to him with Kagari after the latter grows boobs.
  • This Loser Is You: He's a pretty average guy, right up until Musubi literally crashed into his life.
  • Tired of Running: Rejects multiple chances to quit the Sekirei Plan and escape the city, and after Uzume's termination makes the decision to fight with the intention of winning.
  • Unbroken Vigil: After Homura passes out in the aftermath of his winging, he wakes up at Izumo Inn with Minato at his bedside.
  • Understanding Boyfriend: He accepts all the flaws and imperfections about everyone in his harem. Homura is especially thankful for this as before Minato, he never believed there would be an Ashikabi who could accept a Sekirei with mixed sexual characteristics.
  • Uneven Hybrid: It's later revealed that like other Ashikabi, Minato's ancestors were Sekirei who married humans long ago.
  • Vow of Celibacy: Minato has a harem of beautiful girls who all want to have sex with him very much, but their landlady Miya forbids sexual relationships at her inn and Minato respects Miya's rules and would rather not be kicked out onto the streets.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Both the giver and receiver of this trope, in particular when talking down a suicidal Kagari.
  • You Are Not Alone: A defining part of his interactions with others, especially as the series progresses and he becomes more confident.

Minato's Sekirei

    General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/minatos_sekirei.png
Left to right: Musubi, Matsu, Homura/Kagari, Kazehana, Kusano, Tsukiumi
  • Action Girlfriend: Meeting the Sekirei turns Minato's life upside-down and he finds himself in an immense battle of super-powered Human Aliens. Since Minato is a Non-Action Guy through and through, the girls are in charge of the fighting and they all are capable of kicking ass.
  • All Women Are Lustful: All the girls (except Kusano) enjoy showing off their bodies around Minato in skimpy clothing or even being naked around him to entice him into having sex only to be thwarted by Miya with threats of eviction. Homura, the only man in the harem, is the one member who never tries to get in bed with Minato even though Homura is an experienced host.
  • Badass Crew: They're an utterly random collection of individuals, quirky as hell (even the relatively saner ones), and about as far from normal Sekireis one can get. Get on their bad side, though, and they will show you how Minato earned the title of "Ashikabi of the North".
  • Battle Harem: The six Sekirei in Minato's harem love him and he loves them all back, and they fight other Sekirei to protect him. Eventually, Minato actively seeks to include powerful Sekirei in his harem because he needs strong fighters to win the Sekirei Plan without losing anyone he loves.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: They are some of the most fun loving and nicest people all around who usually prefer not to engage in fighting unless their lives are at stake. But when pushed, they will push back. As any time Minato's life is in danger, they will kick anyone to the curb who dare to harm their beloved.
  • Big-Breast Pride: Musubi, Tsukiumi, Matsu and Kazehana all have large breasts and are proud of themselves for it. A running gag is that many characters comment on how endowed the girls are compared to other Sekirei's (as well as their jealousy that Minato has such beautiful women in his harem). A recurring theme of them is that they often argue who's the bustiest of the girls or who use their assets the most. An OVA special features them measuring their sizes, with (in order of who's the bustiest) features Kazehana (B98/W60/H92), follow by Musubi (B97/W58/H89), Matsu (B95/W59/H91), and Tsukiumi (B94/W57/H88).
  • Boob-Based Gag: Excluding Kusano and Homura, the rest of the girls in Minato's harem have huge breasts. At one point, Benitsubasa makes a call to the Izumo Inn and asks for the woman with big breasts. Kuu is understandably confused, as it causes her to think of all of the girls at the Inn due to them having big breasts.
  • Butt-Monkey: The girls constantly get in trouble with Miya because of them trying to have romantic moments with Minato or to have sex with him.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: While most Sekirei are fairly endowed, the girls in Minato's harem (minus Kusano) are stacked. And they are proud of it. And Minato knows better than anyone. Many who commented on his girls comment how lucky a man he is.
  • Character Development:
    • Minato started out as rather meek and insecure with himself both as a man and his ability to believe in himself. With the love and encouragement, he gains from his Sekirei he learns to be more confident and outgoing with himself as well as learning that he's actually a lot smarter than he believes. He was also very nervous when it came to his girls, what with him being a normal Ronin surrounded by a harem of Beautiful women lusting for him on a regular basis made him shy half the time. As the series progresses, he becomes more comfortable and intimate around them. By the time after Musubi's return from Kouten, Minato has become much more comfortable with his Sekirei and fully embraced them all as his wives and engages in sexual moments with all of them (except Kusano) rather than them making the first move as they have before. A testament to this is that he even kisses Homura of his own free will without any discomfort as before despite being of the opposite gender.
    • Musubi was very naive and thoughtless towards common norms around her such as modesty and thinking in combat. Thanks to Minato's influence and the other girls she becomes more independent with herself and able to think ahead of her opponents rather than rushing in without thinking.
    • Kusano was often frightened very easily by almost anyone to the point she hid behind Minato when she saw anything scary. After realizing her own potential as a Sekirei she learns to take a more active role in fights to the point now she isn't as scared of other and even bites Seo anytime she sees him bullying others.
    • Matsu always stayed at the Inn while the others were out fighting for their lives while she was the Mission Control of the group. Once she realized how much everyone was putting their lives on the line, she realized she also needed to be more active and stop hiding, to which she engages in the 4th stage of the Sekirei Plan of her own free will and took and active role in that stage.
    • Tsukiumi was very aggressive and stubborn viewing herself and superior towards others as well as considering herself as Minato's "legal" wife and the other girls as nothing but concubines despite them having been with him far longer than she has. After Musubi was almost terminated due to her negligence in not assisting them with the ordeal with Shigi and Kuno, Tsukiumi realized how petty she was behaving and took it upon herself to change for the better. She becomes much warmer and considerate of all the other Sekirei's feelings rather than her own and learns of her own limitations rather than denying them. In Sekirei 365 Days Without Her, she takes her role as one of Minato's wives very seriously such as doing all the house chores due to Miya's illness and refuses to be intimate with Minato as before out of respect till Musubi's return, a far cry from the previous Entitled to Have You behavior she had.
    • Kazehana was often lazing about everywhere she went drinking all the time due to her suffering a broken heart and trying to find something to fill that void. After seeing Minato's love for his Sekirei, she realized her newfound love for him and let him wing her to take her on as his Sekirei. With that Kazehana was able to engage more openly with others and be much more upbeat and cheery with everyone at the Inn and regain her desire to find love again in Minato.
    • Homura was obsessed with finding a female Ashikabi made him feel insecure with himself due to his body reacting towards Minato. He acted out being cold and brutal, refusing to accept he had feelings for a guy. After Minato winged him and saved his life stating it doesn't matter if he's a guy but he is someone who is special to him just as the others. After this Homura finally came to terms of his sexuality and grows to be more open and honest towards others as well as accepting himself for who he is. By the time of Musubi's return he's fully embraced his love for Minato and is much friendlier to everyone else in the harem.
  • Classical Elements Ensemble: There are four elemental-type Sekirei in Minato's harem, each controlling one of the four primary elements of water (Tsukiumi), wind (Kazehana), fire (Homura/Kagari), and earth/plants (Kusano).
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: All the girls exhibit jealousy to different degrees and engage in competitions over who will sit next to Minato at the dinner table and so on.
  • Clingy Sleepers: When they move into Izumo Inn, all of Minato's Sekirei share his room and they all love clinging tightly to Minato as they sleep on his futon, so much so that it becomes a bit of a Running Gag. This always results in an angry Miya scolding them when she finds them like this and since it keeps happening, she eventually arranges for all the Sekirei to sleep in different rooms at the inn.
  • Color-Coded Characters:
  • Common Law Marriage: Minato isn't legally married to anyone in his harem (as in the eyes of the real-life law in Japan, it would be illegal to marry six people at once especially when one of them is a child). However, the laws of Sekirei state that when an Ashikabi wings a Sekirei, that is considered a form of marriage. Upon the end of the series, Minato's Sekirei consider themselves married to him and they'll continue living happily as a family for the rest of their lives.
  • Devoted to You: Minato is completely and absolutely devoted to everyone in his harem. The others fully feel the same way and love him unquestionably.
  • "Do It Yourself" Theme Tune: The anime's opening themes and ending themes are performed by Saori Hayami (Musubi's voice actress), Marina Inoue (Tsukiumi's voice actress), Kana Hanazawa (Kusano's voice actress) and Aya Endo (Matsu's voice actress).
  • Dynamic Entry: A Running Gag is that Minato tends to meet (or be greeted by) his girls when they land on top of him from either the sky or from a high location.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: By the time of the Sekirei Plan having finally ended, all of Minato's Sekirei win the game, and a year after it ends, Musubi returns from Koten and reunites with Minato and the rest of the Sekirei harem. With everyone back home, Minato and his Sekirei continue to live a happy life at the Izumo Inn.
  • Endearingly Dorky: All of them are likable and have an adorable side which makes them more appealing. Most notably is Musubi and Kusano's childish and Genki Girl behavior or Kazehana acting all giddy when romance is involved.
  • Everyone Has Standards: They all may be part of the Sekirei Plan, but they will not tolerate abusing Sekirei for other people's selfish desires. The whole group especially hates Higa for how he forces his Sekirei to do his dirty work against their will.
  • From Roommates to Romance: Minato gets evicted from his apartment because of Musubi moving in with him. They end up living together at Izumo Inn, where he meets Matsu and Homura who both also become his Sekirei. Later on, Kusano, Tsukiumi and Kazehana move into Izumo Inn as well, after they're winged by Minato. At first, most of the girls sleep in Minato's room since only Matsu and Homura have rooms of their own at the inn, until Miya sets up a living arrangement to give everyone their own rooms. Minato grows to love all of his Sekirei as much as they do for him, but Miya will not allow Minato to get sexually active with anyone at her inn, much to the dismay of all the girls who really want sex with Minato.
  • Funbag Airbag: Minato is often greeted from above when he comes home by his girls, boobs-first landing on his face.
  • Generation Xerox: All six of them strongly resemble and act just like Minato's ancestors Sekirei, in both behavior and fighting style. The only major difference is that not all of them were as well-endowed as their ancestors and Minato has six Sekirei while his ancestor had eight.
  • Goal in Life: Every single member of the group, Minato included, only had one single goal in life: ending the Sekirei Plan so they could live together forever as a family. Upon Musubi's return from Kouten, that wish is finally granted.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: Out of all the girls, Musubi, Matsu, Tsukiumi, and Kazehana fit this the most, with many other Ashikabi who have meet or at least heard of them have commented on how lucky Minato is to have such beautiful women in his harem.
  • Impossible Hourglass Figure: It's more apparent in the anime with Minato's girls having very narrow waists and figures. The most notable is Kazehana having the most fit figure of all the girls.
  • Interrupted Intimacy: It's like Miya just knows when to pop in to ruin any romantic moment the girls have with Minato. Largely the reason why everyone in the group are still virgins is because of Miya.
  • Interspecies Romance: Sekirei are a race of super-powered Human Aliens. The Ashikabi (a human with Sekirei blood) Minato forms a harem of six Sekirei and eventually marries all of them.
  • Limited Wardrobe: They wear the same clothes every single day. In fact, MBI provides the Sekirei with clothing because of the excessive amount of Clothing Damage in battle... and the sets of clothes are always identical.
  • Living with the Villain: Excluding Kazehana (who kept it to herself out of respect for her friendship with her), no one at the Inn were aware that they live under the same roof as the infamous Sekirei Hunter, Uzume's Secret Identity.
  • Love at First Sight: Excluding Homura, all the girls fell in love with Minato from the moment they met him, even before they realized they were falling for him.
  • Marshmallow Hell: Minato is often pleasured by his harem because of this, thanks to his incredibly well-endowed harem. Competition between Musubi and Tsukiumi often involves him being squished dangerously between their breasts. Matsu loves to pounce on Minato while landing on top of him with her breasts when she tries to "experiment" on him. Kazehana takes the cake, though, having the largest chest in the entire series and a tendency to shove his face into her cleavage when excited or hug him from behind and press them against his back. Even more so that he almost immediately knows who suffocating him with their breasts is because of how often his girls do this. Granted, he's fine with it given how beautiful his girls are and because he loves them all.
  • Mayfly–December Romance: Matsu and Kazehana look only a few years older than their 20-year-old Ashikabi Minato, but they were fully grown adults when he was an infant and haven't aged since. According to Matsu in the final epilogue, Sekirei age at a slow pace and Kusano, the youngest, will have twice the lifespan of a regular human.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Even by Sekirei standards, the girls in Minato's harem (excluding Kusano who's just a child) are amazingly beautiful and have rather noticeable "assets" that are frequently exposed through Furo Scenes or Clothing Damage.
  • Not So Above It All: Even Tsukiumi and Homura, who are arguably the sanest and most mature of the group, have their comedic moments. One minute, Tsukiumi is fine then she flies off the handle when one of the girls are clinging to Minato, while Homura whenever someone makes fun of him to which he resorts to using his fire powers to give someone a fuzzy afro.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Miya and Tsukiumi are usually the ones Minato is trying to explain himself to after they catch him in easily misunderstood situations with his harem.
  • One True Love: Minato is considered the love of their lives, and no one will ever replace him.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Usually played for laughs, as whenever the girls get a chance to go on a date with Minato they all take it so serious their willing to fight each other in order to spend time with him.
  • Panty Fighter: Musubi, Kazehana and Tsukiumi are the primary victims of Panty Shots.
  • Polyamory: Minato's six Sekirei are alright with sharing him and being winged is equivalent to all of them being married to him according to Sekirei customs. If anything, they fight over who he pays the most attention to.
  • The Power of Love: Minato loves them all and they reciprocate that love. Because a Sekirei's power increases with the depth of their bond with their Ashikabi, Minato's Sekirei become the most powerful in the series.
  • Pretty Freeloaders: Miya complains that almost no one of Minato's harem (except for Matsu and Homura) are paying the rent. An omake clarifies that Matsu is the one who has been paying the share for everyone besides Minato and Homura.
  • Proud Beauty: Excluding Homura who keeps neutral about this, all of Minato's Sekirei all enjoy flaunting their looks around him to either entice him or argue with each other who's breasts are larger (Kazehana being the bustiest).
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: The group as a whole has Musubi, who can be a total moron with super strength to destroy a house, Kusano who's just a kid yet can grow a small forest with her emotions alone, Matsu who's extremely perverted and can hack MBI satellites and level an entire city if she wishes, Tsukiumi who can manipulate water, is very hot-tempered and is known for having her panties flashed, Kazehana who drinks all the time and can control the wind to do her bidding anytime she wants, and Homura, whose body is "complicated" due to him being artificially created which means he can have both male and female parts, a fact he constantly tries to hide. The group as a whole are feared because of how many Minato has gathered under his wing, yet ironically are completely unaware that he himself is just a plain ordinary guy while others are unaware just how strong everyone in his harem is thanks to him.
  • Rescue Romance: Minato saves most of his Sekirei at some point before winging them.
    • Musubi was almost terminated by Hikari and Hibiki, and Minato saved her from the duo.
    • Kusano was saved by Minato from being abducted and forcibly winged by Hayato.
    • Tsukiumi was nearly forced to be winged by Seo had Minato not proclaimed her to be his Sekirei instead.
    • Homura was on the verge of killing himself due to his body burning up till Minato stepped in to save him and help him regain his will to live.
  • Samaritan Relationship Starter: Most of them fell for Minato because of receiving an act of his kindness in some form.
    • Musubi's infatuation with Minato starts when they first met because he was kind to her, protected her from being terminated by Hibiki and Hikari despite knowing he's no match, let her stay at his place (even if it later got them evicted) and fed her when she was hungry. Her love for him only grows from onward.
    • Minato shields Kusano from Yomi's scythe knowing he'll die in the process.
    • When Tsukiumi reacted to Minato, she first wanted to kill him because she thought all Ashikabi were lowly monkeys and her pride wouldn't let her accept to be winged by anyone. Then Minato protects her from being forcibly winged by Seo and gives her a home to come back to instead of living alone as she has been for the last few years. From then on, she considers Minato her husband and loves him deeply.
    • Homura admits he always saw the worst in people and never believed anyone would really try to understand and empathize with others' suffering, which is why he could only think an Ashikabi would only try to wing him to add him to a shallow Sekirei collection or they just pitied him. Minato showed him he was different when he didn't hesitate to jump into his flames to stop his meltdown attempt and give him a much needed Cooldown Hug. For that reason, Homura pledges his loyalty to Minato as one of his Sekirei lovers.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: Excluding Kusano who doesn't know any better, all the girls have no qualms in showing off their naked bodies to Minato, whether it's an accident or on purpose to entice him because of how much they love him.
  • Shipper on Deck: One of the very few harems in which the main character has a harem and the girls in it are completely ok with him adding more members to his growing harem. Best shown after winging Kazehana Musubi was perfectly okay and even praised Minato in winging a fifth member. And later with the ordeal with Homura all the girls (even Tsukiumi) were okay in Minato winging Homura. As in a way, the group also can consider that they gain not just another love rival, but a family member.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Since reacting towards Minato, everyone in his harem never once show a hint of interest towards any other character other than him.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: The primary reason everyone of Minato's wives loves him so much is because of how selfless and kind he is to them and others. It was also largely the reason they chose him as their Ashikabi is because they saw his compassion for them even before they were interested in him.
  • Thanks for the Mammary: A running gag is that Minato has at least groped all the girls (except Kusano) multiple times due to perverted antics at the Inn. Even more so is that they all enjoy when he does this due to how much they love him and enjoy being intimate with him. Hell, even Homura was groped by him at least once.
  • Took a Level in Badass: All of them have grown and improved themselves as the story progresses and made a name for themselves and become feared in the Northern Territory.
  • True Companions: No matter how much they argue with each other or bicker over Minato's affections, everyone in the harem love and care for one another like family.
  • True Love's Kiss: This is usually how they are winged by Minato and join the harem. It does get played straight as even after kissing him they still fall in love with him.
  • True Love is Exceptional: All of them have expressed their desires on finding someone who was either manly (Kazehana), kind (Musubi and Kusano), a woman (Homura), who was intelligent and confident (Matsu), or brave (Tsukiumi). Every single member has all come to find Minato their One True Love despite all his flaws and imperfections as well as accepting their love for him.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Because Minato is such an ordinary guy, almost no one takes him serious in a fight. Yet he has 6 Sekirei, four of which are single numbers and two are former Disciplinary Squad members. This really comes back at their enemies who underestimate them.
  • Undying Loyalty: No matter how dark it has gotten for them, Minato would gladly lay his life down or even die for his Sekirei. They fully reciprocate this for him even knowing if he dies, they all die.
  • Vapor Wear: Judging from their usual outfits and the faded nipples from their usual clothes shown, excluding Homura, none of the girls wear a bra.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: If there is one thing they all have in common, is that they will not tolerate anyone daring enough to harm their beloved Minato.
  • Vow of Celibacy: Although most of the girls want sex with Minato already, they stay virgins throughout the series because Miya will not allow sex in the Izumo Inn. It's strongly implied (and later confirmed) that Miya does this out of concern for their well-being at the thought of any of them dying and not wanting them to get too close to Minato and having them suffer a broken heart due to losing any of them. Once the Sekirei Plan is finally over and Miya is reunited with her husband, Minato and his wives (except Kusano and Homura) are free to finally have sex.

Voiced by: Ayako Kawasumi [Drama CD], Saori Hayami [Anime] (JP), Alexis Tipton (EN)

Minato's first Sekirei. She is somewhat dim-witted and clueless, but holds an incredible strength of will and compassion for others. A power-type Sekirei.

Ashikabi: Minato Sahashi

  • Affectionate Nickname: Karasuba calls her "Mu-chan".
  • All-Loving Heroine: Musubi treats everyone with unending kindness and compassion, even the murderous Karasuba. Her goal is ultimately to win the Sekirei Plan, in order to teach Karasuba to believe in The Power of Love and in order to free all the Sekirei so everyone can be happy.
  • Alternate Identity Amnesia: She doesn't remember anything that happens around her when Yume is controlling her body.
  • Ambiguously Bi: She accidently kissed Matsu one morning, but wasn't really bothered by it. This never gets brought up again as she's clearly only interested in Minato.
  • Animal Battle Aura: She occasionally manifests a bear aura behind her, which terrifies others.
  • Animal Motifs: She has a bear Animal Battle Aura and her special attacks are bear-themed.
  • Badass Adorable: She's adorable, even when she's smashing buildings with her fists.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Unlike other Sekirei who have superpowers and/or use weapons, Musubi is a power-type whose only weapons are her fists and legs.
  • Bare-Handed Blade Block: She can block and break blades with her bare hands.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Musubi is one of the sweetest characters you'll ever meet, but is a force to be reckoned with when pushed if you hurt her loved ones.
  • Big Eater: The first time Minato feeds her, she leaves him broke.
  • The Big Girl: Musubi is the most skilled in hand-to-hand combat and martial arts of Minato's Sekirei.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Musubi is compared to (and considered sexier than) Kuno because of her big boobs. She's also one of the bustiest girls in Minato's harem, second only to Kazehana.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: By the fists of my contract, my Ashikabi's perils will be shattered.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: A very subtle example. When someone else in the harem (usually Tsukiumi) is getting more attention from Minato than her, Musubi doesn't hit anyone and keeps smiling like usual yet the bear aura behind her makes her true feelings clear.
  • Close-Range Combatant: She is a close-combat fighter with amazing strength.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Her train of thought can get weird at times.
  • Covert Pervert: Though Matsu is more obvious about it, Musubi might actually be the most perverted of Minato's Sekirei; she kisses Matsu without batting an eye, likes having her breasts fondled by Yukari, enjoys groping Tsukiumi, gets off on being Bound and Gagged by Karasuba...
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: She's a total moron half the time, but in a battle she's not to be underestimated and has grown to the point she can hold her own against the Disciplinary Squad members.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Brown hair to go with her brown eyes.
  • Cute Bruiser: Cute as a button with a tendency to solve problems by smashing them with her fists.
  • Determinator: Musubi is the biggest representation of determination and willpower in the series.
  • The Ditz: She's not the brightest Sekirei around.
  • Due to the Dead: Musubi is shown to take very seriously the rule about guarding a terminated Sekirei until they can be retrieved by MBI.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Upon Tsukiumi's entering the harem while declaring herself as Minato's true wife, Musubi claims she has no right to call herself that since she's as much as his wife as her. Granted, Musubi has no real idea what she's talking about, but she is right since Tsukiumi just joined the group and has no right to proclaim herself as his wife when she barely knows anything about Minato.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After spending a year as the core after facing #00, she returns home and thanks to her efforts, all the terminated Sekirei are revived as she wanted and are free to live the lives they want as opposed to be forced to. She reunites with Minato and will live her life with him as one of his wives back at the Izumo Inn with everyone else.
  • Excellent Judge of Character: While she's pretty naive, when it comes to Karasuba, Musubi reveals she's not once been fooled by her and has known all this time how evil she really is, but shares Yume's desire to teach Karasuba the error of her ways, even describing her as a child that just doesn't understand a Sekirei's true nature and purpose.
  • Expressive Hair: Her Idiot Hair tends to react depending on her emotions.
  • First Girl Wins: Played With. Musubi is the first girl to appear and be winged by Minato in the series. At the beginning, she's the only girl in the Battle Harem who Minato feels romantically attracted to, but that starts changing around the time Tsukiumi joins and Minato realizes his bond to all of his Sekirei are equally strong. Musubi does win the Sekirei Plan as she said she would, and does end up with Minato, but everyone in the harem also ends up with Minato as his wives.
  • First Kiss: She's the first person in Minato's life who ever gives him his first kiss.
  • Friendly Rivalry:
    • With Tsukiumi. They both compete in competitions to sit next to Minato for dinner or to declare themselves as his official wife. It becomes friendlier after Musubi was almost terminated that Tsukiumi starts caring for her more. After Musubi's disappearance for a year, Tsukiumi, despite wanting to win, respectfully waits until Musubi returns to start up their rivalry again.
    • She insists her friendship with Kaho is really strong, partially because they promised to fight next time they met. Hilarity Ensues when they meet pre-battle, and are forced to hide from each other to avoid breaking their promise.
  • Girly Bruiser: She's very girly, bubbly, and a power-type Sekirei with powerful fists.
  • Harem-Powered: In chapter 177, she temporarily assimilates the Sekirei cores and powers of the rest of Minato's harem, in order to revive Minato and take on Miya. This is key to her defeating Miya in the final battle.
  • The Heroine: She drives the story with her personal quest to free all Sekirei.
  • Idiot Hair: She has a long and prominent strand of hair sticking up atop her hair, showing her innocence.
  • Idiot Hero: The dumbest of Minato's Sekirei, but has her moments of intelligence.
  • Immune to Bullets: She found being shot, and hit, by machine guns near the end of the fourth stage "annoying."
  • The Ingenue: She's naive and pure like a child. Sexual innuendos can't get through to her.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: Because she lacks any common sense about modesty, for most of the series Musubi has no problems undressing or appearing in front of Minato naked. She only tries covering her breasts because Minato asks her to. She gets better over time.
  • Kamehame Hadoken: Her ultimate move named Kuma no Te (Bear Palm) lets her unleash a light blast shaped like a bear paw from her core. Karasuba says it's a technique she inherited from Yume.
  • Kindhearted Simpleton: Though the least intelligent of Minato's Sekirei, she's easily the nicest, and the only one who respects his boundaries and/or isn't comically abusive towards him.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: She's the sweet-tempered, naïve, and cheerful Light Feminine contrasting the imposing, aloof, and haughty Tsukiumi.
  • Limit Break: Kuma Ryusei (Bear Meteor).
  • Love at First Sight: She fell for Minato the first moment they met.
  • Magnetic Girlfriend: Winging her unlocked Minato's potential, allowing him to slowly attract all the others in his harem.
  • Manic Pixie Dream Girl: To a degree. She literally falls out of the sky into Minato's life and ends up kicking off an adventure that makes him a more confident person. However, while she's quirky, she herself is only as responsible for Minato's Character Development as any other Sekirei is.
  • Meaningful Name: Musubi's name is spelled with this kanji 結, which can mean something like "to bind" or "contract".
  • Megaton Punch: One of her signature moves is a punch that can send her opponents flying.
  • Minidress of Power: Musubi's standard outfit is a white robe and a pink miniskirt. This often results in Panty Shots for her fight scenes.
  • Morality Pet: Karasuba is in relatively friendly terms with Musubi considering Karasuba only wants to slice up any other Sekirei. Subverted in that Karasuba doesn't give a damn about Musubi herself; she only sees her as the vessel of her old partner Yume.
  • Nice Girl: Not only is she nice to her beloved Minato, but to everyone. Even to her love rivals. In fact, she never gets angry with Minato. Not even once.
  • One-Note Cook: She's good at making curry. And.....more curry.
  • Perpetual Smiler: She almost never stops smiling, even when she's mad or jealous.
  • Plucky Girl: Perky, sweet, and never one to give up.
  • The Pollyanna: Optimistic, and full of hope even in the direst of circumstances.
  • The Promise: She promised Yume she would defeat Karasuba and free all the defeated Sekirei, as well as promising Karasuba that they would be the final two Sekirei, and promising Kaho they would fight the next time they met.
  • School Sport Uniform: An unusual case, given that she doesn't attend school, but she often wears a shirt and brown bloomers at the Izumo Inn, either for sleeping or for sparring at the courtyard.
  • Sharing a Body: Yume continues to exist within her soul, and sometimes takes control. After Musubi makes her Sekirei declaration to Minato, Yume's soul disappears from the core.
  • Shipper on Deck: She's more than willing to help Haruka and Kuno escape the capital due to their love for each other. The same can be said about whenever Minato gets another Sekirei, however unlike Tsukiumi, Musubi seems to encourage him on the grounds that she considers this to be more of Minato getting another family member rather than love rival.
  • Spirited Competitor: She loves to take on strong opponents.
  • Super-Strength: Her primary ability as a Sekirei is her superhuman strength.
  • Third-Person Person: She refers to herself in third person, showing her ditzy personality.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: An OVA features her actually getting off when Karasuba binds her with measuring tape to measure her bust size.
  • Took a Level in Badass: She went from barely being able to handle herself against the Disciplinary Squad to the point she can face Miya, the Sekirei Queen, in a one-on-one fight and emerge victorious. By the end of the series, she's considered one of the most powerful Sekirei out there.

    Kusano

Kusano (Sekirei #108)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ch03_kusano.png
Voiced by: Yukari Tamura [Drama CD], Kana Hanazawa [Anime] (JP), Tia Ballard (EN)

Minato's second Sekirei, who considers him her "big brother" and future husband. The youngest of the Sekirei, she is a cheerful and innocent girl with the power to control plants. She was forced out into the world early, after Mikogami attempted to capture her and used her powers to build a forest to protect her. Dubbed the "Green Girl", she called out to Minato in dreams until he was able to rescue her.

Ashikabi: Minato Sahashi

  • A-Cup Angst: Downplayed. Kuu is mostly alright with being the Token Mini-Moe, but knows that Minato won't think of her as a lover as long as her body is that of a child. At one point, she has a dream where she's taller and her figure is just as well-endowed as Minato's other Sekirei. Luckily for her, it's implied she'll develop into the body type she wants when she does reach adulthood.
  • Affectionate Nickname: She's nicknamed "Kuu-chan" by those close to her.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: She's the youngest and most innocent of Minato's Sekirei, prompting everyone else to look after Kuu as if she was the cute little sister in their family. However, Kuu gets annoyed that everyone in Izumo Inn tells her she's too young to participate in many activities around the house.
  • Baby See, Baby Do: She often mimics the mannerisms of the older harem members, usually Tsukiumi.
  • Badass Adorable: The cutest around, and far more of a badass than people would expect.
  • Big Brother Attraction: Towards Minato who she sees as an older sibling and her future husband.
  • Big Brother Worship: She worships the ground Minato walks on and clings to him like white on rice.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: Life of my Pledge, Shine on my Ashikabi.
  • Cheerful Child: She's a sweet little girl with a constantly sunny disposition.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: After Tsukiumi starts mentioning being Minato's "true wife", Kuu starts clinging to his arm a lot more. Later, she starts imitating Tsukiumi's "jealous wife" behavior when Tsukiumi accuses Minato of being unfaithful.
  • Cosplay Otaku Girl: She tends to dress up in some of Uzume's costumes. This only adds to her cuteness.
  • The Cutie: She's an absolutely adorable child anyone would love to hug.
  • Dirty Kid: Minato worries that some of Matsu's perversion has rubbed off the little Kuu, seeing how eager she is to kiss Minato for her Norito and the way she kisses him isn't fitting of a child at all.
  • Earthy Barefoot Character: She usually walks around barefoot to show her close connection to nature due to her Green Thumb powers. She does wear sandals when going outside on occasion.
  • Elemental Eye Colors: She has green eyes and her power is controlling plants.
  • Elemental Personalities: She has the power to grow plants. Appropriately, her personality is sweet, caring and peaceful.
  • Expressive Hair: The tip of her hair takes the shape of a heart when she wants to kiss Minato for her Norito.
  • Flowers of Nature: She has Green Thumb powers and sometimes wears sandals decorated by flowers.
  • Girl of My Dreams: Her first meetings with Minato were dreams.
  • Green Thumb: Her power allows her to grow and control plants.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She's a sweet and innocent child with long stawberry blonde hair.
  • Hates Being Alone: When she was separated from Takami, she spent the days crying and begging for someone to come and help her, as she told later to Minato.
  • The Heart: She stops the arguments of her fellow haremettes and helps them get along with each other.
  • I Got Bigger: The epilogue has Minato commenting that Kusano is growing taller and more mature looking.
  • The Jailbait Wait: Inverted. Minato loves all of his Sekirei, but keeps his relationship with Kuu at a Like Brother and Sister level because she's a child. However, Kuu does wish to become romantically involved with Minato when she's of age as shown when she has a dream where she's older and makes romantic advances at Minato.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: She adores kitties.
  • Like Brother and Sister: She shares a sibling-like bond with Shiina.
  • Little Miss Badass: Kusano is just a child, but is capable of growing a tiny plant in a pot to the size of a small forest.
  • Little Sister Heroine. A non-blood related example. Kuu calls Minato her older brother and he treats her more like a little sister than a lover because of her young age, but she's still a member of his Sekirei harem.
  • Man Bites Man: Played for Laughs; she's prone to biting Seo when she thinks he might be bullying Minato, but her bites are so harmless that Kuu only looks cute and funny while doing it.
  • Meaningful Name: Kuu's means "Grass and fields".
  • Mystical Waif: She was introduced as a mysterious Sekirei child who communicated with Minato through dreams and visions where she was crying and asking for his help. Because of her outstanding plant powers, she was targeted by Mikogami's group as he wanted to forcibly wing her, motivating Minato to protect her.
  • Nice Girl: Her kindness rivals that of Musubi's.
  • The Nicknamer: She has cute nicknames for everyone in Izumo Inn. "Onii-chan" for Minato, "Mu-chan" for Musubi, "Tsu-chan" for Tsukiumi, "Ma-chan" for Matsu, "Fu-chan" for Kazehana, and "U-chan" for Uzume.
  • Petite Pride: She proudly asks Minato to look at her flat chest. He points out how wrong that is.
  • Powers Do the Fighting: Although she can't actually fight due to being a child, she can grow giant plants to defend herself and immobilize people.
  • Precocious Crush: Kuu is the youngest Sekirei and loves the 19-year-old Minato just as much as his other Sekirei who are closer to his age. She even asks Minato to marry her when she's older. While she's one of his Sekirei, Minato clearly doesn't see her in a romantic light because she's too young for him and treats her more like a little sister. Kuu deeply wishes she could grow up faster so Minato would treat her as a lover like he does for his older Sekirei.
  • Prone to Tears: Because she's a little kid, she cries easily.
  • Red Baron: She gets called "The Green Girl".
  • Rescue Introduction: In her introduction, Kusano is targeted by Hayato Mikogami, who attempts to wing her by force. After she uses a telepathic link to ask for help, Minato and Musubi go to rescue her.
  • School Swimsuit: She's often seen wearing one with the number 108, either for cleaning the bath or at the beach.
  • Story-Breaker Power: Kuu's Norito is possibly the most broken of the series because it has the power to revive terminated Sekirei as long as their core hasn't stopped functioning entirely. However, Matsu believes Kuu's power could become that great because of Minato's bonds with his Sekirei becoming so strong during the game, so Kuu probably wouldn't have been able to save Uzume at the time of the latter's termination. This helps justify why Kuu could only unleash her Norito's full potential during the final battle.
  • Talking to Plants: She's able to communicate with plants, even over a distance. She was able to "ask" a tree to catch Minato, and learned from it about Shiina being released from the labs.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Gives one to Tsukiumi. She coldly tells her off saying that she has no right to call herself Minato's wife if she won't even help him with the ordeal with Haruka and Kuno like the others. She then ups it further stating if she really loved Minato like she claims she'd help him no matter what. Tsukiumi was appalled that a child just lectured her, but in the end, admitted Kusano was right.
  • Third-Person Person: Because she's a small child, she calls herself "Kuu" instead of using a pronoun.
  • Token Mini-Moe: She's a very young child in a harem of otherwise adult, voluptuous Sekirei.
  • Token Wholesome: Due to being a kid, she's the only one of Minato's Sekirei who dresses conservatively and isn't sexualized.
  • Unstable Powered Child: Mikogami tried to forcefully wing Kusano when the limiters on her powers weren't complete yet. The result was Kusano accidentally growing a forest in the middle of the city. She gains more control over her powers after she becomes Minato's Sekirei.
  • Vine Tentacles: She can grow plants and produce vines that she uses to trap or disable her opponents without hurting them.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: She angrily calls out Tsukiumi for refusing to help Minato with Haruka and Kuno's escape from the capital, stating she has no right to call herself his wife if she won't even help her so-call husband. Thankfully, after also being lectured by Matsu and Miya, Tsukiumi acknowledged Kusano was right.
  • Wise Beyond Her Years: While the youngest of the girls, she's surprisingly insightful. She actually was the one to call out Tsukiumi for not helping Minato with the ordeal about Haruka, even pointing out that Tsukiumi has no right to proclaim herself Minato's Top Wife if she won't even help her so-called husband.
  • World-Healing Wave: The power of her Norito is generating a massive wave of healing energy that can reactivate terminated Sekirei in the surrounding area, along making nature bloom.

Matsu (Sekirei #02)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ch04__matsu.png
Voiced by: Yuki Matsuoka [Drama CD], Aya Endo [Anime] (JP), Colleen Clinkenbeard (EN)

Minato's third Sekirei, a perverted technopath in hiding from MBI. She originally viewed Musubi as a rival, but quickly decides watching the others fight over Minato is more entertaining. As Sekirei #02, she knows many secrets about the Sekirei Plan and provides the others with information and tactical support from the safety of her room.

Ashikabi: Minato Sahashi

  • The Ageless: She appears to be about the same age as the 20-year-old Minato, but she was an adult at a time when he was still an infant. It's implied that she doesn't age as a result of being one of the five first single number Sekirei.
  • Ambiguously Bi: It's heavily implied that Matsu is bisexual, having not even flinched when Musubi (accidentally) kisses her.
  • Badass Biker: She rides a bike in the anime and can kick major ass as well.
  • Badass Bookworm: As an "intellect"-type Sekirei, she makes use of things such as a Kill Sat and various gadgets when forced to deal with enemies. And as Miya points out, she's actually one of Minato's most ruthless Sekirei when necessary, and considering how she can hack the MBI satellites and destroy a portion of the city if she chooses, it is no wonder she was on the Disciplinary Squad.
  • Brutal Honesty: She unloads on Minato when they first met about his shortcomings and how he's failed the entrance exam in college twice.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Matsu is a massive pervert towards Minato with no shame in trying to "experiment" on him. She also has amazing hacking skills with the capabilities of destroying a city in a flash.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: Wisdom of my Pledge, Bestow the Teachings of the World to my Ashikabi!
  • Cleavage Window: Her dress has a diamond-shaped opening showing off her cleavage.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Early on, Matsu tries to blast Musubi with satellite lasers because she was mad about seeing Musubi get close to Minato. It's mostly subverted after she gets winged, as she loves seeing the other haremettes get clingy with Minato and doesn't participate in their jealous antics since she prefers to flirt with Minato in private.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: There's no computer system or machine she can't hack, but because her powers and skills are limited to that, she would be useless in direct combat. She only works at Mission Control for this reason.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Auburn eyes to match her hair.
  • Does Not Know Her Own Strength: Even she is freaked out by the massively destructive power she gains by hacking control over Kouten and briefly stealing it from Miya. She fires a laser beam all the way to space when ordering the device to take down some helicopters. She then changes the order to "gently" blowing the helicopters away instead.
  • Double Standard Rape: Female on Male: She's often trying to jump Minato, which is played for comedy.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: When the others learn she was on the original Disciplinary Squad twenty years ago, Minato and the others (except Kazehana who was her squadmate) find it hard to believe this to be true, making Matsu upset stating she's strong just like the others in her own way.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: In one of the prologue chapters, Minato bumps into Matsu in the middle of the street. Her next appearances characterize her as a Hikikomori who refuses to leave Izumo Inn due to being a fugitive to the MBI.
  • The Gadfly: She just loves to mess with others.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Her various inventions come in handy, from tracking devices to hidden radios to net-launchers.
  • Glasses Are Sexy: Her glasses up her beauty and sex appeal.
  • Good Bad Girl: While a total pervert, she's a sweet and kind person at heart.
  • Green-Eyed Epiphany: After realizing her jealousy when Musubi was so close with Minato, Matsu realizes she's reacted to him and is in love with him as well. This led her to willingly allow herself to become winged by him.
  • Guy on Guy Is Hot: She's very curious to know how Mutsu ended up with a teenage boy as his Ashikabi and gets excited when she hears they're going to kiss to activate Mutsu's Norito.
  • Hacker Cave: Her bedroom is full of computers screens that let her watch several parts of the city through the satellites she hacks.
  • Hartman Hips: Her hips are notably wider than most of the other girls, mostly notable due to her large butt.
  • Hikikomori: She never steps outside the Izumo Inn and stays hidden inside her secret room. Unlike most examples who are reclusive from society due to their own choice, Matsu was actually forced into seclusion because she's wanted by the MBI for data theft.
  • In-Series Nickname: Perverted Glasses (Miya), The Pervert (Mutsu)
  • It Amused Me: She loves seeing Minato's harem mold into a soap opera drama, to which she lets the chaos unfold for her amusement.
  • Karmic Butt-Monkey: Matsu brings her slapstick upon herself. She gets punished by Miya whenever her perverted behavior gets out of control. She also annoys Homura about his body's female characteristics, to which he replies by burning her to the point her hair looks like an afro.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: While a complete pervert, people genuinely like her anyway.
  • Male Gaze: She has a noticeable large butt that she tends to show off quite often.
  • Mission Control: While she seems capable of holding her own in a (non-melee) fight, she prefers not leaving Izumo Inn so MBI can't catch her. She mostly sticks to monitoring the harem's battles from the computer screens in her bedroom.
  • Ms. Exposition: She's the one Minato turns to, whenever he needs information. As such, she's the major source for info-dumps in the series.
  • Naked First Impression: Minato meets her for the first time in the bath when she's wearing nothing but a bath towel that falls off to let him see her completely naked, nearly giving him a nosebleed.
  • The Nicknamer: She has a habit of addressing others with "tan" at the end of their names.
  • Older Than She Looks: She appears as a woman in her twenties and looked exactly the same twenty years ago.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The moment Karasuba enters the fray, Matsu becomes terrified of her and drops her playful behavior and takes the situation very seriously.
  • Playful Hacker: Her powers allow her to monitor computer systems, but her own hacking skills are necessary to do anything beyond looking. Even when it isn't necessary, she likes to peek in on systems just for fun.
  • Properly Paranoid: She's often the one to plan ahead of certain events in the series just in case something were to happen to Minato, which actually pays off. Best shown that after the ordeal with the Disciplinary Squad she has one of the other girls tag along (which they count as a date) to keep him safe just in case someone comes along. This pays off as other Sekirei and Ashikabi visit them out of the blue wanting their help.
  • Redheads Are Ravishing: Matsu is a redhead with a curvaceous body, especially her large bosom. In a harem where almost every single girl already counts as a Ms. Fanservice, Matsu stands out for being one of the most shameless and openly lascivious.
  • Running Gag:
    • When she tries to mess with Homura, she gets blasted by his fire and given a fuzzy looking afro from her burnt hair.
    • Everytime she tries to seduce Minato, Miya magically shows up and punishes her (and Minato) without a meal.
  • Secret-Keeper: She's the only one in the harem who knows about Kagari's Secret Identity as the Sekirei Guardian Homura and also about the "special" conditions of his body. Because Kagari will burn her alive if she spills out any of his secrets, she holds it in until Kagari shares the truth himself.
  • Sexy Slit Dress: Her usual outfit is a qipao with a slit on both sides, showing off a lot of her legs.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: She has no qualms showing off her naked body or undressing to her underwear when Minato is doing laundry. When sleeping with Minato, she has the most provocative sleeping wear with a fancy nightgown that shows her underwear, legs, and breasts.
  • The Smart Girl: She's responsible for gathering data, as well as giving key details and information when needed in battle and missions.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: She wears glasses to easily identify her as The Smart Girl of the harem.
  • Squishy Wizard: Others find it a bit hard to believe Matsu was a member of the Disciplinary Squad because she's one of the few Sekirei without Super-Strength, Elemental Powers or even a weapon. However, her Technopath powers allow her to hack satellites and the Kouten to use them as her own weapons, which more than makes up for her lack of normal combat abilities.
  • Stalker with a Crush: When she reacted to Minato, she spied on him through her cameras and carefully researched all his biography. She properly met him when she sneaked into his bath.
  • Super Prototype: She's one of the first five single number Sekirei and her abilities are among the most powerful due to the special adjustments Takehito gave her.
  • The Tease: Not to the same extent as Kazehana, but she really enjoys seeing the chaos unfold in Minato's harem and chooses engage in it privately.
  • Technopath: She can access computers and satellites with her mind.
  • Third-Person Person: She refers to herself in third person.
  • A Threesome Is Hot: She's very eager at the idea of having Three-Way Sex with Minato and Musubi at the same time.
  • Troll: Rather than give Higa the data he needed, she gave him a digital image of herself with her giving the peace sign as payback for getting Uzume terminated.
  • Victoria's Secret Compartment: Matsu pulls a tracking device out of her cleavage during the hunt for Homura.

    Tsukiumi

Tsukiumi (Sekirei #09)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ch05_tsukiumi.png
Voiced by: Rie Tanaka [Drama CD], Marina Inoue [Anime] (JP), Lydia Mackay (EN)

Minato's fourth Sekirei, a proud and bad-tempered woman with control over water. She is the youngest Single Number, and initially holds a deep contempt for Ashikabi to the extent she planned to kill Minato. After he defends her, though, she is deeply moved and agrees to become his wife — considering the other Sekirei his "concubines". She fights constantly with the others for Minato's affection, but also cares deeply for them and considers them her comrades.

Ashikabi: Minato Sahashi

  • Always Second Best: A Running Gag for her is her rivalry with Musubi is that no matter how hard she tries, Tsukiumi almost always loses to Musubi at almost everything. Whether it be their shopping races, sitting next to Minato at dinner, or even in the size of their breasts.
  • Animal Motifs: Her wavy hair resembles snakes somewhat and she has snake-themed attacks.
  • Antiquated Linguistics: She speaks in ancient Japanese, such as using the archaic "warawa" to refer to herself.
  • Apron Matron: After the Sekirei Plan ends, Tsukiumi takes over Izumo Inn due to Miya's near-catatonic state. She's doing a good job at looking after Minato and the girls. She also gets Kusano's help in keeping the other haremettes in line.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Girl: She takes great pride in her nature as a Sekirei warrior. At first, she was so arrogant that she believed she could remain unwinged and win the Sekirei Plan all by herself, to prove her superiority to winged Sekirei. After she agrees to become winged by Minato, she still thinks of the rest of his Sekirei as inferior to her and refuses to acknowledge them as her equals, both as fellow fighters and wives to Minato. After some time, she does become more humble and learns to accept everyone in the harem as her comrades.
  • Badass Arm-Fold: She keeps her arms folded when she's acting tough.
  • Badass Longcoat: Her dress is covered by a black long coat with red lining, and it's often used for dramatic shots.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: This is the water of my pledge, purify the evil residing in my Ashikabi.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She is the only one in Minato's harem who is bothered by him having multiple Sekirei. Although, she begrudgingly accepts Minato having "concubines" as long as she gets to be the Top Wife.
  • Combat Stilettos: She's amazingly agile in those high-heeled boots.
  • Cool Big Sis: She seems to have formed this dynamic with Kusano, who seems to have picked up on some of her habits.
  • Covert Pervert: She isn't sexually aggressive like Matsu and Kazehana, but she allows Minato to stare at her body or place his hand on her chest in an effort to entice him as she expresses how she wishes he would try harder to sleep with her.
  • Cute Little Fangs: Her canine fangs stick out when she's angry.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: When she first reacted, she immediately hated Minato and wanted to kill him because she refused to let herself be winged by any of the humans she looks down on as monkeys. After Minato defends her from Seo and calls her his Sekirei, Tsukiumi joins his harem without protest. Learning to care about Minato and the rest of the harem makes her less cold over time.
  • Does Not Like Men: As vouched by Matsu, Tsukiumi is a notorious man-hater. A large portion of that is due to Ashikabi's forcing Sekirei to be winged by them against their will. Minato and Homura are the only men who Tsukiumi will never hate.
  • Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male: While regularly Played for Laughs, she tends to let her temper get the better of her and attacks Minato with a large amount of water that looks like a serious attack. Though given he's just wet afterwards implies she's holding back and not seriously trying to hurt him. Gets played straight when she resorts to physical abuse, such as jumping on him or grabbing him by the collar when she thinks he's spending too much time with the others.
  • Elemental Eye Colors: Her eyes are blue to match her water element.
  • Elemental Punch: Her water blasts pack enough kinetic force to send Minato flying, although she stops doing this later on.
  • Elemental Weapon: She can create a water sword.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: She's called "Ms. Panty Flasher" because she's such a big Panty Fighter and she hates it.
  • Entitled to Have You: When she first joins the harem, she refuses to accept the rest of the girls as potential wives for Minato and believes she alone is the only one who deserves to be his wife, yet she refuses to support his decisions unconditionally because of her selfish pride. Kusano calls her out on the last part. After Musubi is nearly terminated, she moves past this and starts to be more supportive towards Minato and care for the other girls in the harem.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • While she can be cold and a bit of a jerk at times, when she thought Minato forced Kusano to be his Sekirei (which many Ashikabis have done prior to meeting her), she was disgusted at the thought someone would do that to a small girl.
    • Despite very much wanting to be Minato's only wife at the start, she never tries to seriously harm or remove the others from the picture.
  • Expressive Hair: It tends to wave around like snakes whenever she's angry.
  • Freudian Excuse: As a small child, she ran away from her modifier's house and a creepy old man almost kidnapped her. This is the reason why she hated men until she met Minato.
  • Friendly Rivalry: With Musubi. Despite their quarrels with each other and various competitions to vie for Minato's affection, the two are actually close like sisters. Both grow to respect and care for one another to the point that Tsukiumi refuses to hit on Minato until after Musubi returns from Kouten.
  • Giant Poofy Sleeves: Her black dress has puffs on the shoulders.
  • Girl of My Dreams: Minato first sees her in dreams where she threatened to kill him.
  • Girlish Pigtails: In several side-stories, she ties her hair into twintails, a common hairstyle for young and brattish Tsundere girls like her.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Not to the same extent as Homura, but Tsukiumi is the coldest of the girls in the harem who's not above using intimidation or violence to take down her enemies.
  • Graceful Loser: Part of her character development is to accept losses when she knows she's been bested at something and take it in stride.
  • Hair Intakes: She has two intakes in her hair that look like cat ears.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She's a massive Tsundere, and can be blunt, cold and harsh, but deep down is a good and noble woman at heart who loves Minato unconditionally and cares for the rest of his Sekirei even if she considers them her rivals of love.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Quick to anger, and quicker to react with violence.
  • Happily Adopted: Tsukiumi was adopted by her modifier Miyajima who raised her like she was her own daughter. Tsukiumi is afraid of Miyajima because of how strict she was with her, but they care about each other like real mother and daughter.
  • Honor Before Reason: She sometimes gets so hung up on what is honorable, that she puts herself or others at a disadvantage.
  • Hot-Blooded: Being the most passionate of the girls, she can be very stubborn and driven at anything she does.
  • Housewife: After the final battle, Tsukiumi becomes the new head of the Izumo Inn, overseeing the completion of chores and cooking for Minato and the rest of the harem because the landlady Miya can't do it herself as a result of becoming ill from her link to Kouten being severed.
  • Humanizing Tears: She's such a haughty Tsundere that seeing her shedding tears is especially moving.
  • Hypocritical Humor: She constantly scolds Minato's other Sekirei for spending too much time alone with him or even to Minato himself yet she does this all the time while telling them off for eavesdropping. Pretty much everyone in the harem call her out on that.
  • In-Series Nickname: Ms. Panty Flasher (Kazehana), Walking Tap (Miya), or when Miya's less charitable, "Water Ecstasy Girl."
  • Inconvenient Attraction: When she reacts to Minato, she's furious and disgusted by the mere idea of being winged by one of the Ashikabi that she viewed as lowly apes. After she sees the Nice Guy Minato is, Tsukiumi quickly gives in to her reaction and accepts Minato as her husband.
  • It's All My Fault: When Musubi was terminated by Benitsubasa, Tsukiumi blamed it all on her knowing had she just helped Minato when he asked her, then maybe Musubi wouldn't have nearly died. Thankfully, Yume saved her.
  • Jerkass Realization: After refusing to help Minato with the incident with Haruka and Kuno escape the capital, and arriving too late to see Musubi having been terminated by Benitsubasa, Tsukiumi, realizing her stubbornness and pride cost Musubi her life, she painfully accepts she is the real reason Musubi died while apologizing to her and Minato for not helping them when they really needed her. Thankfully, Musubi survives thanks to Yume being inside her, to which Tsukiumi vows to make up from the ordeal.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's cold, blunt, and overly violent. She's also a noble and honest woman at heart, loves Minato dearly, and gradually grows to care greatly for the rest of the girls in his harem.
  • Kicking Ass in All Her Finery: She's dressed in a black dress with a white underdress, a choker on her neck, and long brown high-heeled boots with black stockings. While this looks like the get-up for a ball, she instead wears it for the battlefield.
  • The Lancer: Whenever Minato is not around, Tsukiumi keeps everyone else in check and is the most reliable whenever the others have to fend for themselves. Her abrasiveness and hot temper serve as a direct contrast to Minato's nicer and idealistic personality.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: She's the imposing, aloof, and haughty Dark Feminine contrasting the sweet-tempered, naïve, and cheerful Musubi.
  • Limit Break: Shiomitsu Tama (High Tide Jewels).
  • Loner-Turned-Friend: When the Sekirei Plan started, Tsukiumi was dead set on proving she could defeat all other Sekirei without an Ashikabi or help from anyone. This is why she was so opposed to being winged by Minato and even after she accepts him, she isn't happy with him having several Sekirei. As time goes on, she becomes comfortable with the other members of the harem and comes to value the teamwork in battle.
  • Long-Range Fighter: Her fighting style focuses on long-ranged elemental attacks, rather than up-close-and-personal fighting. She avoids Crippling Overspecialization with Water Sword, her only but powerful short-range attack.
  • Making a Splash: Her power is producing and controlling water.
  • Master of Delusion: She's completely oblivious to the fact she'd been having breakfast with her rival for months. It took seeing him use his powers, remembering there's only one flame-type Sekirei, and Musubi pointing out their resemblance to make her realize that Kagari and Homura are the same person.
  • Meaningful Name: Tsukiumi's name means "Moon Sea".
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Upon arriving too late to save Musubi from her fight with Benitsubasa, Tsukiumi realizes that her own pride and petty behavior nearly cost the life of her rival in love and good friend. She feels terrible and blames Musubi's close call on herself.
  • Not So Above It All: Tsukiumi is one of the few serious-minded members of Minato's harem and looks down on the other girls for fooling around during the Sekirei Plan. However, she still lets her temper get the better of her and participates in the girls' jealous antics.
  • Of Corsets Sexy: She has a corset built into her coat, accentuating her breasts.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You:
    • She promises Minato only she is allowed to kill him, as a romantic gesture.
    • She also has this sentiment towards Homura/Kagari, who she considers her rival she will not let die until the day she beats him.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Her default expression is an angry frown. It's rare to see her smile.
  • Pitbull Dates Puppy: Tsukiumi is the most hotheaded and aggressive woman of Minato's harem. While she loves him, she dislikes it when Minato acts overly meek and submissive because she wants a strong-willed husband. This actually causes some conflict early on, as Tsukiumi thinks Minato is too soft for helping weaker participants of the Sekirei Plan and refuses to cooperate in his selfless actions until Kusano convinces her otherwise.
  • Plucky Girl: She's brave, strong-willed, and eager for a challenge.
  • Power Stereotype Flip: She's a water-type Sekirei, but her Hot-Blooded Tsundere personality is closer to what one would expect of a fire-type.
  • Proud Warrior Race Girl: She often boasts that it is a Sekirei's duty and honor to fight.
  • Reluctant Fanservice Girl: She's the only of the girls who seems to be against dressing immodestly, believing it's shameless and not fitting for a warrior (which is odd given her usual outfit is quite revealing). She does break away from this at times if it will please Minato.
  • Running Gag: Her panties tend to be flashed quite often, much to her embarrassment.
  • Shaping Your Attacks: Her water attacks can take the form of mythological creatures like dragons and the Orochi.
  • Showgirl Skirt: She wears a black dress with a long skirt that splits at the front to display her legs and the white Minidress of Power she wears underneath.
  • Sore Loser: A mix of Graceful Loser when she loses competitions with Musubi or other girls vying for Minato's attention.
  • Stocking Filler: She holds up her stockings with a pair of garters.
  • Stripperiffic: Her dress exposes a large amount of her cleavage and thighs, yet she doesn't have a problem fighting in it.
  • Supreme Chef: Her ability to cook greatly improves by the finale.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: She started off cold, arrogant and selfish. After Musubi nearly dies because she pettily refused to help, Tsukiumi finally learns to put others' needs before herself and starts treating the other members of the group in a much friendlier and respectful manner. By the end of the series, she's taking her role as a wife much more seriously to the point she refused to vie for Minato's affection like usual until after Musubi returns from Kouten out of respect for her rival.
  • Top Wife: Subverted. She tries to claim the position of Minato's only true wife while writing off the rest of the harem as concubines. However, no one in the harem takes her claims seriously since they all consider themselves Minato's wives. Eventually, Tsukiumi more or less accepts everyone in the harem is equal, but she still competes with Musubi for Minato's attention.
  • Tsundere: Harsh type. She's short-tempered, prideful and violent. She actually threatens to kill Minato in their first meeting. After she falls for Minato and grows to care for her fellow harem members, she shows more of her warmer and caring side, although she never completely loses her abrasive nature.
  • Tsurime Eyes: To match her proud, aggressive personality.
  • Twinkle Smile: Gets one in the anime after meeting Minato's first 3 Sekirei.
  • Unbroken Vigil: After the first battle against the Disciplinary Squad, an injured Minato wakes up at the hospital with Tsukiumi sleeping at his bedside.
  • Unknown Rival: She calls Homura her ultimate rival who she wants to defeat more than any other Sekirei. Homura, for his part, doesn't really care about Tsukiumi's wish to fight him.
  • Wacky Marriage Proposal: Once she accepts to be Minato's Sekirei, she claims him as her husband by swearing that only she can kill him.
  • Water Is Womanly: Tsukiumi is the most feminine among Minato's Sekirei, has a Tsundere personality, wears a black and white dress, and has water powers.
  • Well, Excuse Me, Princess!: She pushes Minato to show some backbone and stop belittling himself because she won't ever allow the man she chose as her husband to act pathetic.
  • When She Smiles: When she drops her cold demeanor and smiles, it's actually very cute and adorable of her. Minato himself notes she's very cute when she does that.
  • Wouldn't Hurt a Child: Despite fighting the other girls for Minato's affection, Kusano is the only person Tsukiumi will not fight nor harm in any way because she's just a child and doesn't have it in her to do any harm to her.
  • Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe: She speaks this way in the Funimation dub, as a Woolseyism way of translating her old-fashioned dialect for English-speaking audiences.

    Kazehana

Kazehana (Sekirei #03)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ch25_kazehana.png
Voiced by: Yukana (JP), Stephanie Young (EN, as Kelly McHalen)

Minato's fifth Sekirei, a deeply romantic woman that has power over the wind. A shameless flirt, she drinks heavily and enjoys pushing the limits of the rules at Izumo Inn in terms of "indecent behavior". She challenges Minato to prove himself to her, and agrees to become his Sekirei when she witnesses the depth of his love for them. While rarely serious, she is a skilled fighter and one of the strongest Sekirei.

Ashikabi: Minato Sahashi

  • The Ageless: Like in Matsu's case, Kazehana is one of the five first single number Sekirei and it's implied she doesn't age as a result. She looks only slightly older than the 20-year-old Minato, but has been an adult since he was an infant.
  • The Alcoholic: She's a heavy drinker, almost always at least a little buzzed. Her drinking habits are derived from having been rejected by the first man she loved Minaka. After falling in love with Minato, she still engages in drinking now primarily because she loves to do so.
  • Almost Kiss: She does this prior to Haruka and Kuno trying to escape the capital with Minato but stops inches away from his face when he wakes up.
  • Berserk Button: She states she only allows three people to talk down to her. Minato, Miya, and the president of MBI.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: She's flirty, often drunk, and squeals about The Power of Love in the middle of a serious situation. She's also one of the strongest Sekirei, with more combat experience than most put together.
  • Big-Breast Pride: She has the largest breasts out of all of the female cast and is proud of herself for that as she uses that to her advantage with Minato to please him.
  • The Big Girl: Kazehana is Minato's most powerful Sekirei in direct combat by default thanks to being one of the first five single numbers who formed the first Disciplinary Squad.
  • Blow You Away: She's a powerful wind elemental.
  • Boobs-and-Butt Pose: She's fond of doing this, either when in a fight, or flirting with Minato.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard She's got the largest breasts of all the female characters, to the point of causing A-Cup Angst in many of the girls, and is overall the most sexualized out of all of Minato's Sekirei.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: By the forewinds of my contract, my Ashikabi's dark clouds will be blown away.
  • Cherry Blossoms: These are the kinds of petals she summons with her powers.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: While the least jealous of the girls, she has her moments, most notably whenever Tsukiumi gets on her nerves and tries to fight her. When Musubi (who had merged with Houken at the time) interrupts her attempt to (presumably) make love, she is more than willing to fight her even though said fight could level the entire northern area.
  • Combat Stilettos: Her heels don't look battle-ready, but she's amazingly agile in them.
  • Cool Big Sis: Minato correctly guesses that she feels this way towards most of the Sekirei, viewing herself as their big sister.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Kazehana is a carefree Hard-Drinking Party Girl who doesn't mind walking around half-naked, so you'll be forgiven for not guessing that she's a former Disciplinary Squad member who can control the wind to her command and wipe the floor with almost anyone in her way.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: To demonstrate was a former member of the Disciplinary Squad is capable of, after Kazehana was winged by Minato, Benitsubasa and Haihane didn't even stand a chance against her once she got serious. She easily sent Benitsubasa and Haihane flying with her powers with just one move.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Black hair to go with her black eyes.
  • Drowning My Sorrows:
    • She picked up her heavy drinking habits when she was suffering of a broken heart from being rejected by the first man she ever loved.
    • After the final battle, Miya's weak condition causes Kazehana to drink more cans of beer a day than before since she's so bummed out about Miya not being able to yell at her for doing this.
  • Elemental Personalities: She's a wind-type Sekirei with a free-spirited, cheerful, and carefree personality.
  • Ethical Slut: Hinted to be one, readily encouraging others to follow their hearts regardless of social expectations/norms, and playfully scolding Minato for worrying about gender and sexuality when it comes to ~love~.
  • The First Cut Is the Deepest: After being rejected by Minaka, Kazehana suffered a broken heart for the next 20 years and refused to associate herself with any concepts of love or the Sekirei Plan, which is primarily why she was never winged until she's won over by Minato's kind heart.
  • Foil: To Miya. They both were part of the Disciplinary Squad 20 years ago and while Kazehana is still a fighter, Miya retired after her husband's passing. Kazehana is a flirt who loves to drink and can be rather lazy and irresponsible, while Miya is the reserved and mature Team Mom who keeps others in check and even Kazehana. While both of them suffer from a broken heart, Kazehana was able to move on to finding a new love in Minato and let him wing her, but Miya never moved on from Takehito and even now has never been winged.
  • Friendly Rivalry: With Uzume. The two have fought many times, but neither really want to kill each other and engage in drinking buddies at times. She was also left sad to see Uzume be terminated.
  • Good Bad Girl: She's about as perverted and lustful as Matsu, being equally open about her sexual desires for Minato. She's still a good person like everyone else in the harem.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: She loves to drink and party.
  • Has a Type: She initially wanted someone who's "manly", but in the end she defies this and wants a man who's just as manly as he is kind, which she found in Minato.
  • Head-and-Hip Pose: She almost always has one of her hands behind her head. It's like her default pose.
  • Hot Wind: Generates her own, almost constantly.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: Since she was rejected by the first man she loved, Kazehana became depressed and sought to find love for herself and not just others. After meeting Minato and seeing the love and dedication he has for his Sekirei, she found him as a new love, to which she managed to melt her former feelings away from the MBI President and found new love in Minato, to which she managed to make peace with herself in her new love in Minato.
  • The Immodest Orgasm: Before the plan to escape the capital with Haruka and Kuno, Kazehana sees Minato sleeping and realizes her bodies reacting to him. The way her legs shake clearly shows how aroused she was just being close to him.
  • In-Series Nickname: Public Obscenity (Miya), The Drunk (Mutsu)
  • Kicking Ass in All Her Finery: She wears a tight purple dress showing off a lot of her legs, and wears high-heel pumps and can beat virtually anyone that dare stands in her way.
  • Lazy Bum: When she isn't sleeping in and hung over, she's getting wasted.
  • Leg Focus: Her usual outfit shows off her long sleek legs to a fantastic degree. All of her fight scenes usually focus on her legs.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: The Dark Feminine to Miya's Light Feminine. Their contrasting dressing styles represent their stark different behaviors; Kazehana dresses immodestly to show most of her body, while Miya wears a conservative kimono that makes her look mature and elegant.
  • Limit Break: Hana Senpu (Flower Whirlwind). During her fight with Kaie, her Norito attack is called Kamikaze (Flower Beauty Wind).
  • Long-Range Fighter: Her fighting style focuses entirely on long-ranged, wind-based attacks.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: Kazehana has zero qualms in expressing her desires to make love to Minato or wearing any revealing outfit in his presence (courtesy of Uzume's collection of clothes).
  • Love Father, Love Son: She first fell in love with Minaka, Minato's father. When she meets Minato, she's immediately attracted to him due to how similar he looks to Minaka and becomes Minato's Sekirei soon after that.
  • Love Freak: She's known for acting all giddy and silly when love is brought up or hearing about romance. Best shown when Haruko and Kuno explain how they first met, Kazehana went on a rant over how precious there love was to the point her face becomes very goofy looking. She's prone to interrupting serious moments by squealing about how wonderful ~love~ is.
  • Made of Iron: The amount of alcohol she's drunk in the last 20 years would have killed an ordinary person. Played straight in an actual fight. As out of all the girls in the harem she's capable of taking the most amount of damage and keep fighting without it affecting her. Best shown during the fight against one of Higa's strongest Sekirei Kaie, the two deal a lot of damage and clash with their most powerful techniques and Kazehana emerges with serious wounds and just casually walks it off like nothing after defeating her opponent.
  • Marry for Love: She never got winged until she met Minato as she refused to do so until she met someone she loved with all her heart, which she did with Minato.
  • Minidress of Power: Her regular outfit is a Chinese minidress that allows the audience to fully appreciate her beautiful legs during her battles.
  • Mundane Utility: She uses her wind powers to lighten the weight of the shopping bags from the grocery store she carries so she can more easily win a race against Tsukiumi.
  • Naked Apron: She once welcomes Minato while wearing nothing but an apron. Miya was not pleased (Minato however, was).
  • Naked First Impression: Minato first meets her the morning after she (along with Uzume) walked into Minato's room naked after drinking too much.
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: Her dress is slit down past her navel.
  • Navel Window: She wears a cheongsam with a diamond-shaped cutout around her navel.
  • Nice Girl: She's a shameless flirt who loves to drink and can be rather lazy, but she's a total sweetheart who thinks the world of others close to her.
  • Older Than She Looks: She looks like she's in her mid to late twenties, but she's one of the oldest Sekirei and was already an adult twenty years ago.
  • One-Woman Army: As a member of the Disciplinary Squad, she effortlessly destroyed an entire squad of helicopters.
  • Petal Power: She can generate whirlwinds of flower petals.
  • Pining After Protagonist's Parent: She was turned down by her first love Minaka because he already had Takami. She didn't get over him until twenty years later when she meets Minaka's son Minato and reacts to him because of his physical similarities to his father.
  • Proud Beauty: She loves to sexualize her appearance not just to flaunt her beauty, but to turn her beloved Minato on and to please him in any way.
  • Purple Is Powerful: She wears a skin-tight purple dress and has dark purple hair. She's also one of the most powerful Sekirei in the series.
  • Sad Clown: Her Hard-Drinking Party Girl behavior is more driven whenever something bad happens, like with Uzume being terminated or when Miya was ill.
  • Secret-Keeper: She knows Uzume is the Veiled Sekirei, but doesn't reveal her identity out of admiration for Uzume's devotion to her Ashikabi.
  • Secret Test of Character: During the ordeal with Haruka and Kuno's escape, she stood on the sidelines from afar wanting to see him prove how "manly" he is. After seeing Musubi's termination, she witnessed his sorrow and grief over her death, resulting in her feeling pain herself over his broken heart. After Musubi's return thanks to Yume, Kazehana considered Minato worthy of being called a man after seeing his actions. This was more than enough to have her choice in being his Sekirei.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: After becoming Minato's Sekirei, she goes to greet him in a Naked Apron, causing Miya to hit her. She also loves to dress up in Uzume's sexy outfits to entice Minato.
  • Shipper on Deck: When Haruka and Kuno wanted to elope and escape the capital from the Sekirei Plan, Kazehana wholeheartedly supported their desire to be with each other.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Despite her flirty and carefree behavior, Kazehana is very perceptive when she wants to be. She could tell when Uzume was acting out due to her distant behavior and correctly deduced she tried to terminate her when her back was turned on her when changing clothes.
  • Statuesque Stunner: She's quite tall (standing around 5'7 to 5'8) and just an inch or two under Minato, and arguably the tallest of the girls.
  • Stephen Ulysses Perhero: Kazehana means "Wind Flower", referencing her wind and petal powers.
  • Stripperiffic: She goes to battle wearing a cheongsam that fully reveals her legs and comes with a Navel-Deep Neckline that shows off her cleavage and belly button.
  • Super Prototype: She's one of the first five models in the Sekirei series and also one of the most powerful due to the special adjustments Takehito gave her.
  • The Tease: She loves to tease everyone. No one is safe, except for Miya. For example, she has no problems letting Minato patch her up when she was injured in a fight to the point she willingly places his hand on her bare breasts when he was putting ointment on her (and only stopped because Miya threatened to kick her out).
  • Underboobs: Her dress has a cutout at the front that reveals the underside of her breasts.
  • Walking the Earth: Claims to have done this for a while, but admits it turned into a national Sake taste-testing tour.
  • What Does She See in Him?: For a while, Musubi and Tsukiumi questioned what exactly Kazehana saw in Minaka. Kazehana, however, based by her speech about him in the past, suggests he may not have been such a bad person in the past prior to becoming The Chessmaster he is now. She never shows interest in him again after falling for Minato.
  • Worthy Opponent: She considers Kaie to be one having fought her multiple times. Miya especially given Kazehana openly states she is the only Sekirei she considers above her in terms of strength.

    Homura / Kagari

Homura (Sekirei #06)/Kagari

Voiced by: Hiromi Hirata [Drama CD], Yuki Kaida [Anime] (JP), Leah Clark (EN)

Minato's sixth Sekirei. One of the residents of Izumo Inn, he goes by the alias of "Kagari" and works at a Host Club while concealing his identity as a Sekirei. He also serves as the Sekirei Guardian and wields power over flames, protecting unmerged Sekirei from harassment by humans or attacks by other Sekirei. Stated to be a prototype, his powers are extremely unstable and he has no fixed sex, though he identifies as male. Over time, his body begins to change sex in reaction to Minato and in despair, he attempts to either kill Minaka or himself. After being talked down by Minato and be emerged, he comes to accept himself.

Ashikabi: Minato Sahashi

  • Aloof Ally: Before becoming Minato's sixth Sekirei, Homura liked playing the role of a mysterious ally helping the main group from the shadows.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: Homura is introduced as a very handsome young man, but after beginning to react to Minato he starts to turn into a woman. He's still really attractive in his new feminine form.
  • Badass Longcoat: He wears a cool-looking black longcoat as the Sekirei Guardian.
  • The Bartender: After the end of the Sekirei Plan, Homura becomes a bartender. He enjoys his new job because he likes seeing the effect alcohol has in people.
  • Big Damn Heroes: He is this to unmerged Sekirei he saved.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: These are the flames of my pledge, burn the Karma of my Ashikabi.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: He's unable to confess his feelings for Minato. Until the second chapter of Sekirei: 365 Days Without Her.
  • The Casanova: Before reacting to Minato, Homura was one of the most popular and successful hosts at his Host Club.
  • Chick Magnet: The most popular Host at his club. When he isn't feeling well, he gets one call after another of women who wanted a date with him.
  • Compensated Dating: Shown going on one with Takami, in order to make up for the time he took off to protect Kusano.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Very downplayed. Homura is by far the least openly jealous member of Minato's harem, but he can't deny it does make him uncomfortable to see women all over his Ashikabi. He readily blames Tsukiumi for "infecting" him.
  • Defrosting Ice King: He starts as the most aloof member of the harem and refuses so strongly to accept Minato as his Ashikabi that Minato has to more or less wing him against his will to save Homura from being killed by his own flames. Sometime later, Homura realizes he has long stopped hating Minato and is falling as hard as the girls for him, but still doesn't show it openly. By the end of the series, Homura has fully accepted his love for Minato and no longer tries to deny or hide it around him and becomes more open with him than before.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: When Minato asks Homura to become his Sekirei, Homura writes him off as one of those shallow Ashikabi who only care to have as many Sekirei as possible and accuses Minato of stopping Homura's suicide attempt out of pity for a "broken" Sekirei who has no control over his physical sex and powers. Minato responds by insisting it isn't pity; he and his other Sekirei want to help Homura because he's their precious friend and they all genuinely care about him.
  • Effeminate Voice: Homura is an androgynous-looking Sekirei with an unstable physical sex that adjusts according to the sexuality of Homura's Ashikabi, but Homura firmly self-identifies as male. In all languages, even before developing female characteristics, Homura is voiced by a woman doing a somewhat boyish voice.
  • Elemental Eye Colors: He's the only known fire-type Sekirei and his eyes are red-brown to show this.
  • Expository Pronoun: He uses "boku" as a first-person pronoun, which is expected from young, unassuming men.
  • False Reassurance: Homura's infamous "This doesn't interest me at all" line.
  • Fiery Stoic: He's the only Sekirei with fire powers, yet is generally the most cool-headed and collected of Minato's harem. He's still warm-hearted and displays Tsundere tendencies for time to time.
  • Flawed Prototype: Homura is considered a "defective" Sekirei prototype because his powers and physical sex could never be made completely stable no matter the modifications the MBI scientists did to his body.
  • Gayngst: Homura is upset that his feelings are directed to Minato, a male Ashikabi because he was hoping he would be winged by a woman instead. He's especially uncomfortable given that his unusual body structure of having both male and female parts makes it difficult to come to terms with his sexual orientation. He gradually gets over this conflict because Minato keeps proving that he's the best Ashikabi that Homura could have wished for and by the end of the series, Homura doesn't have any problems with expressing his love for Minato anymore.
  • Gay Option: The only male in Minato's harem. While he begins developing female characteristics after reacting to Minato, he continues to identify as male, and his relationship with Minato is for all intents and purposes treated as being between two men. The girls are madly jealous that Homura is the only one who can sleep in the same room as Minato without Miya getting angry because both are guys.
  • Gender Bender: Once he began to react to Minato's presence, Homura's body became like that of a female's while retaining his male mind. However, it's heavily implied that the transformation wasn't completed and he retains a certain significant male part.
  • Gender Bender Angst: Homura is a Sekirei with a unique trait of his physical sex automatically adjusting itself to the preferences of his Ashikabi. He has a male body by default, after reacting to Minato who is a heterosexual man, Homura's body starts changing to resemble a woman's including growing breasts. Homura hates his own body for being this way, calling it ugly and proof that he's "broken." After Minato wings him, Homura is resigned to Minato turning him into a woman in mind and body, but Minato refuses to force that on Homura and lets Homura stay the way he is.
  • Good Is Not Nice: He can be a bit of a jerk, but Homura is disgusted when Ashikabi's force Sekirei's to be winged rather of their own free will. It's for that why he acts out to protect Sekirei's who are not winged yet.
  • Good Is Not Soft: While Homura is honestly a good man, he won't hesitate to burn people to protect unwinged Sekirei and later, Minato.
  • Green-Eyed Epiphany: After being winged, he's still in denial about having feelings for Minato until he keeps getting "uncomfortable" when he sees the girls of the harem hugging or kissing Minato.
  • Hermaphrodite: Implied. Ever since he began to react to Minato, Homura has gained a feminine body structure and breasts, but he compares himself to a slug (an animal with both sexual organs), and implies that while his overall appearance is female, he still has certain male parts intact.
  • Hypocrite: He scolded Tsukiumi for not getting winged by an Ashikabi stating she would eventually need to and should swallow her pride, yet he would refuse to be winged by an Ashikabi out of his own pride. Tsukiumi rightfully calls him out on his hypocrisy.
  • Hypocrite Has a Point: As hypocritical as Homura was behaving towards Tsukiumi about finding an Ashikabi, he still was right to point out she would need to get winged eventually due to the danger she posed. This would be proven true during her fight with Hikari and Hibiki where she would have fallen had Minato winged her.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: See Navel-Deep Neckline, in the same omake Homura scolded Kazehana for wandering around only in a bathrobe and exposing a good portion of her chest. In case of Kazehana however, her everyday outfit expose as much so it's a wonder why Homura is bothered by her lack of modesty. Homura himself as mentioned above starts buttoning his shirt very low since he became Minato's sixth sekirei. Lampshaded by Minato, the lack of modesty also applies to Homura but for some reason he didn't notice. It's ironic, considering that, even before his winging, Homura was one of the characters most prone to pointing out the other Sekireis' lack of modesty.
  • If It's You, It's Okay: He wanted to have a female Ashikabi, but ended up reacting to Minato, a man. Homura isn't happy about it and acts quite Tsundere to Minato, but is slowly accepting his feelings for him.
  • Incompatible Orientation: Subverted. Against Homura's wishes, he reacts to Minato who is a heterosexual man. Although, what makes Homura the most upset is that his body's unique biology causes him to grow breasts to suit his Ashikabi's sexual orientation. After Minato wings Homura, he refuses to forcefully make Homura a woman in mind and body even though he could because he likes Homura the way he is. From then on, Homura and Minato love each other as two men.
  • Interrupted Suicide: Refusing to be a trophy in Minaka's "game," Homura attempts to commit suicide through self-immolation. Minato and his Sekireis arrive just in time to stop him and Minato initiated his emergence, saving Homura's life.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's cold and can be quite rude at times, but is a good-hearted man who serves as a guardian of all Sekirei's due to his desire to see them be free.
  • Ladykiller in Love: He's a very experienced and popular host at a nightclub. He got intimate with many women while trying to find a female Ashikabi, but his body ultimately only reacted to Minato. After the Sekirei Plan is over, Homura doesn't return to working as a host because he already has Minato (and Homura's breasts would make the job awkward).
  • Last-Name Basis: Homura still uses Minato's family name, unlike his other Sekirei.
  • Leave Me Alone!: Often throws this at Minato, when he tries to help.
  • Limit Break: Gouka no Tsubasa (Wings of Conflagration).
  • Living a Double Life: He has two identities; the popular host of a night club Kagari and the mysterious protector of unwinged Sekirei Homura.
  • Mysterious Protector: Was this at first for wingless Sekirei at Takami's request.
  • Mystical White Hair: A hint of his true nature, as a Sekirei and a rare elemental type.
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: Once he's emerged, he starts wandering around with his shirt unbuttoned very low. An omake features Minato worrying about how Kagari doesn't seem to realize it, and he's not sure where he's supposed to look anymore.
  • Navel Window: His dress shirt and black coat are left unbuttoned at the bottom to expose his navel.
  • Nerves of Steel: He keeps his cool even in the direst of situations.
  • The One Guy: He's the only male member in Minato's harem. Granted his body has breasts, but Homura always identifies as male.
  • Only Sane Man: He's the most mature and levelheaded member of Minato's harem. He never tries to seduce Minato nor joins the jealous antics of the girls, choosing to be more reserved about his feelings for him. This is why he's the only one in the inn who never gets scolded by Miya.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Lampshaded by Homura himself that he only wears face mask, and is baffled that Tsukiumi didn't recognize him. To be fair, he didn't mean to use his Sekirei outfit to hide his identity at all, and most likely the face mask is simply a practical clothing due to his elemental power.
  • Playing with Fire: His elemental ability is fire, and according to Tsukiumi, is completely unique among the Sekirei.
  • Power Incontinence: Over time, he has less and less control over his fire powers which leads to him burning himself just as much as his enemies. After he's winged by Minato, his flames become stable.
  • Pragmatic Hero: He's arguably the most ruthless and violent out of all of Minato's group and won't shy away from using force or even murder to reach a solution (especially with Minaka).
  • Seme: He has elements of this since he's a suave and cool Bishōnen working as a host at a nightclub, eventually develops a conflicted attraction for a meek Non-Action Guy and fights to protect him. Minato openly admits he likes and looks up to Homura for his manly and strong qualities.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The Manly Man to Minato's Sensitive Guy, ironically. Despite Homura's body having female sexual characteristics, he's more confident, cool, and a powerful Sekirei in contrast to Minato who is a meek and insecure Non-Action Guy.
  • Sex God: Prior to being winged by Minato, Homura was quite a lover to several women in his quest to find a female Ashikabi. After accepting his feelings for Minato, he stops this.
  • Shaping Your Attacks: Some of his fire attacks are shaped like snakes or dragons.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Always dressed in fashionable clothing, and Minato admires him for this.
  • Sixth Ranger: Starting as an Aloof Ally, he's the last to join the established team of Minato's Sekirei.
  • Smoking Is Glamorous: His smoking is typically portrayed as part of his allure.
  • Steven Ulysses Perhero: Homura means "Flame". His alias of "Kagari" also counts, as it was purposefully chosen for its meaning, "Bonfire". He explains it as reflecting his wish to protect and guide unemerged Sekirei. Later, he admits this desire to protect and guide now applies to Minato.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: While he's very cool and distant, he's a good person who wants to protect others in trouble.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: After coming to terms with his sexuality, Homura has become friendlier and more relaxed.
  • Transparent Closet: He fervently denies he has fallen for Minato, even though he blushes and thinks about his Ashikabi a lot. None of his fellow Sekirei believes him, especially Tsukiumi who feels jealous towards him if he gets too close to Minato and call him cheating for using "we're both guys" as an excuse to offer Minato his room to rest when the others stole Minato's room.
  • Tsundere: Harsh type, although a less abrasive one than Tsukiumi. He's having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that the Ashikabi he reacted to is a man when he would have preferred a woman. Homura once loses himself to the reaction and tries to kiss Minato, only to snap out of it, punch Minato in the face and almost burn him alive. After Minato wings him, Homura still keeps his affection for him way more distant than the rest of the harem even though he's obviously just as loyal and protective towards Minato as the girls.
  • "Which Restroom?" Dilemma: There's a Running Gag where he can't decide whether to go in the male or female side of baths or changing rooms.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: He has white hair, and while he's a very heroic person, he has a tendency to be blunt and cold towards others.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: When he can't control his fire powers anymore, Homura goes in a rant as he tells Minato how a "broken" Sekirei like him can't live by his own will when even his gender depends on his Ashikabi's choice and there was never any meaning to his life. Minato gives him a Cooldown Hug, reminding him all the good he has done for him, his Sekirei, and other Sekirei who wouldn't have found their Ashikabi without his protection. Minato proclaims that Homura is an invaluable friend to everyone in Izumo Inn and none of them wants to lose him.

Landlady

    Miya Asama

Miya Asama (Sekirei #01/#00)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ch06_miya.png
Voiced by: Sayaka Ohara (Japanese), Monica Rial (English)

The landlady of Izumo Inn. Her late husband was the head researcher of the Sekirei Plan, giving her considerable insight into its secrets. She is a skilled swordswoman, and offers training to help improve the skills of Minato's Sekirei.

  • The Ageless: She hasn't aged at all in the 20 years since Minaka and Takami found her.
  • All-Powerful Bystander: She could defeat almost every Sekirei in the game without effort, but for some complicated reason she chooses to stay neutral and live peacefully at her husband's inn. Her neutrality is vital to keeping Karasuba in check.
  • Apron Matron: As the landlady and Team Mom, Miya's authority in Izumo Inn is supreme. While she's kind, everyone has to follow her rules if they don't want to invoke her wrath.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Despite being so calm and kind towards everyone, she gets pretty scary whenever her Demon Head pops up, despite having a nice smile on her face.
  • Brutal Honesty: She is always the first to call Seo out on how much of a scumbag he really is and regularly threatens him if he crosses the line.
  • Character Catchphrase: "(Insert phrase)...is forbidden at the Izumo Inn."
  • Cool Big Sis: When called a mother figure, she corrects it by stating she's this instead.
  • Cruel to Be Kind: Strongly implied to be the real reason she forbids the girls from engaging Minato in romantic moments in the inn. Having lost the man she loved due to her getting too close with him and suffering a broken heart, Miya doesn't want to see other Sekirei go through the same which is why she enforces such harsh rules on all of them to ensure they don't suffer from a broken heart if Minato should die. Considering the cruel fact that only one Sekirei can win this, it's safe to assume this is the case.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Purple hair and eyes.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: She was very clumsy when she was just married to Takehito, leading her to cause damages around the house while trying to do the chores. She only got better thanks to Seo's teachings.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: In flashbacks of her time at the Disciplinary Squad, Miya was cold and solely focused on her duty. Her kind and sweet nature was developed from her husband's influence on her.
  • Demon Head: Her Running Gag is that when someone makes her angry, a giant Hannya mask appears floating behind her. She's able to use it to intimidate, even over the phone.
  • The Dreaded: The legendary "Hannya of the North", a being so feared that the North remains relatively peaceful and the various forces controlling the rest of the city normally stay out. Merely speaking to her on the street was enough to make Blood Knight Karasuba so excited that she needed to kill someone right away.
  • Due to the Dead: She ceremoniously visits Takehito's grave every month at the date of his death.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After living for the last 20 years a widow and blaming herself for her husband's death, Minato is successful in reviving him and she's tearfully reunited with him and may finally be winged by him to end the Sekirei Plan for good.
  • Empty Shell: After she's defeated by Musubi, Miya becomes severely weakened and barely responsive to her surroundings, leaving her in a near-catatonic state. Matsu theorizes that since her connection to Kouten was suddenly severed, Miya's core was damaged and her condition could become permanent if she stays unwinged. She seems to return to normal when Minato brings Takehito back home.
  • Final Boss: Miya is the last Sekirei the winner of the game must defeat to take the throne of the Sekirei Queen in Kouten.
  • Genetic Memory: She possesses all the collective memories of the other 7 pillars from the past, who she states are all her other selves.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Whenever she's particularly angry. It's played completely for laughs.
  • God's Hands Are Tied: Her neutrality is essential to keeping Karasuba in check.
  • God Was My Copilot: Miya keeps her true identity hidden from Minato, Musubi, Kusano, and Tsukiumi for much of the story. After Uzume's termination, she finally reveals herself to Minato and agrees to share all her knowledge with him.
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple: She's an elegant Yamato Nadeshiko and Lady of War who always wears a kimono with purple hakama pants.
  • Guy on Guy Is Hot: She blushes when Homura confides in her that he might attack and rape Minato's behind.
Homura: I'm already at my limit. At this rate even my male side will react, and will I assail that moron's back?
  • Harem Nanny: She keeps the antics in Izumo Inn to a minimum, sometimes with threats of physical violence or even kicking out the tenants. The biggest rule in her inn is that Miya will not let Minato and his girls have sex.
  • Heartbroken Badass: She's the most powerful Sekirei and remains in mourning for her deceased husband, even years later.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: People are genuinely surprised to learn she isn't evil, as her reputation suggests.
  • Hime Cut: As an epitome of Yamato Nadeshiko, Miya has blunt bangs, collarbone length sidelocks, and hip length straight hair.
  • Iaijutsu Practitioner: Her signature style, with not a single movement wasted.
  • Implausible Fencing Powers: Her forte, allowing her to perform amazing feats.
  • It's All My Fault: Blames herself for what happened to her husband.
  • Jerkass to One:
    • She hates Seo and does not try to hide it. In fact, if not for Seo's friendship with her late husband, she would have nothing to do with him and regularly insults him to his face when he comes over for free food.
    • She drops her calm and kind behavior whenever Minaka is involved and becomes more cold and ruthless to the point she outright stated she wouldn't hesitate to assist Homura in killing him. Considering Takehito had to sacrifice himself to prevent a disaster at MBI because of an experiement Minaka was performing on the jinki went wrong, it's no wonder Miya holds a grudge against Minaka.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: When she fights with a sword, it's going to be a katana.
  • Kimono Is Traditional: She always wears a kimono styled like a Miko's uniform to show her Yamato Nadeshiko character.
  • Lady of War: An elegant, composed lady who practices Iaijutsu. Everything she does is pure elegance.
  • Lethal Chef: Originally, her cooking was so terrible that Takehito couldn't even swallow it. It turns out that Seo taught her how to cook.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: The Light Feminine to Kazehana's Dark Feminine. Miya is mature, conservative, and elegant, while Kazehana is shameless, flamboyant, and playful.
  • Mama Bear: While she does not acknowledge herself as a mother figure it still counts since she does look after everyone in the Inn. Played straight with Kusano as she's not above attacking Seo whenever he bullies her.
  • Mark of the Supernatural: Even though she makes herself pass as a normal landlady, her lilac hair is one of many hints that she's a Sekirei and the very first one no less.
  • Marry for Love: Miya states she's never been winged because her One True Love wasn't an Ashikabi.
  • Master Swordswoman: She's the master swordsman of the series.
  • The Mourning After: She still mourns Takehito's death and has never even considered being with another man despite how lonely she feels without her husband.
  • Nice Girl: She's a very loyal ally and friend to her tenants.
  • The Nicknamer: She doles nicknames out to her tenants, often unflattering ones.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Once Karasuba drops by unnanounced at her Inn, Miya takes her "greeting" colding and knows she did it for a reason. They remain tense with one another with Miya coldly reminding her to never come by again other wise she'll finish what she started with her.
  • Older Than She Looks: She looks like she's in her late 20s to early 30s. Twenty years ago, she looked exactly the same. In fact, based on the story about Minato's ancestor, it's implied she's the oldest Sekirei of them all and is well over 100 years old.
  • One-Woman Army: Back in the days when she was active, she was able to sink aircraft carriers with a single stroke.
  • Passive-Aggressive Kombat: Seo is her favorite target, but few people are safe.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Those who know her true identity have stated that if she were to actually fight, the capital would be completely destroyed.
  • Physical Goddess: The Pillar of the Sekirei, and mistress of Kouten. Takami once told Kusano that #01 was the "queen", but Miya corrects this by stating she's a goddess.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Her signature color is purple, being the color of her hair and hakama, in line with her being the most powerful Sekirei of all.
  • Quitting to Get Married: She quitted the original Disciplinary Squad when she married Takehito.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: She's the Sekirei #01, meaning that she's the absolute most powerful of the 108 Sekirei.
  • Razor Wind: Back when she was in the Disciplinary Squad, her signature technique was releasing devastating shockwaves from her sword.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: She's strict with the rules at the Izumo Inn, but Miya has shown to be fair and just with her tenants and will watch over them as family so long as they follow the rules and help out around the inn.
  • Red Baron: Other Sekirei know and fear her as the "Hannya of the North".
  • Retired Badass: She was the captain and most powerful member of the first Disciplinary Squad. She stepped away from the events of the capital, choosing to live a quiet and humble life as that was her husband's wish. Everyone knows it's a really bad idea to get her out of retirement because she hasn't lost her touch from her old days in the battlefield.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: She's a gentle and graceful lady with the ability to manifest her true strength with a scary demon aura that lets others know they shouldn't mess with her.
  • Single-Stroke Battle: She pulverized Karasuba with her bare hands after learning of her husband's death, though Miya didn't finish her off.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Even after 20 years, she's never shown any other interest in anyone other than Takehito whom she considers the love of her life.
  • Story-Breaker Power: As many have stated, if Miya ever became an active participant in the Sekirei Plan, the game would be over in an instant because everyone would be crushed by her. For the sake of keeping the story going, she must remain an All-Powerful Bystander.
  • Super Prototype: She's the Sekirei No.1, one of the first five considered the most powerful thanks to her husband's modifications. In fact, she's even more powerful than the others Takehito adjusted because she's a Pillar, making her basically a Sekirei goddess.
  • Sword Beam: Included in her signature technique back in the day.
  • Team Mom: She acts like a kind yet strict mother towards Minato's group as their landlady.
  • Tears of Joy: After Minato is successful in reviving her husband, she has a tearful reunion with him.
  • Token Wholesome: She's insistent about modesty and very conservatively dressed. Her few scenes that feature nudity are also significantly less gratuitous than those of nearly every other Sekirei.
  • When She Smiles: Her romance with Takehito started when his comedic arguments with Seo made her smile for the first time.
  • Wooden Katanas Are Even Better: She's relied on this ever since her retirement.
  • World's Strongest Woman: She's regarded as the strongest Sekirei ever born. At least till defeated for the first time by Musubi.
  • Yamato Nadeshiko: In addition to looking the part (see the kimono) Miya has the composed, articulate charm of a classic matron. Even while training swordfighters. She can deliver deadly warnings with the same sweet civility.

Other Residents

    Uzume

Uzume (Sekirei #10)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ch08__uzume.png
Voiced by: Yuu Kobayashi [Drama CD], Hitomi Nabatame [Anime] (JP), Jamie Marchi (EN)

She is a resident of Izumo Inn, and becomes good friends with Minato and his Sekirei. However, she is being blackmailed by Higa and forced to hunt down other Sekirei in violation of the rules. This double-life weighs heavily on her, and she is desperate to keep her secret from Chiho and her friends.

Ashikabi: Chiho Hidaka

  • Action Girlfriend: A rather tragic and dark example. Uzume's Ashikabi can't leave her hospital bed, so Uzume is even more on her own than other Sekirei who can take their Ashikabi to the battlefield. To make it worse, Higa is holding Chiho hostage by threatening to stop treating Chiho so Uzume acts as his personal Sekirei hunter.
  • Aloof Ally: Attempts to keep her distance from the others, for their own good.
  • Ambiguously Bi: She's utterly devoted to her female Ashikabi, Chiho. While her and Minato are firmly Like Brother and Sister, her teasing makes one wonder...
  • Anti-Villain: She's killing off other Sekirei, but she hates herself for it and is only doing it to save Chiho. Other than that, she's kind to Minato and the others and never does anything truly evil in the series.
  • At Least I Admit It: When other Sekirei call her a coward and cruel for what she's doing, Uzume does not deny this and declares herself as such knowing what she's doing is wrong but feels like she has no other choice.
  • Back from the Dead: Uzume ends up performing a Heroic Sacrifice to save Minato (Musubi in the anime), but she is revived by the end of the manga and reunites with Chiho who restores her memories by winging her again.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: By the veil of my contract, my Ashikabi's nightmares will be dispelled.
  • The Champion: There's nothing she wouldn't do for Chiho's sake.
  • Chastity Couple: Her relationship with Chiho is relatively subdued, at least physically. Considering Chiho's extremely weak health, this makes some sense. They can get more intimate after Chiho's illness is healed.
  • Clothing Combat: Her veil doubles as her weapon.
  • Combat Stilettos: When wearing her Sekirei gear, she's got no problems kicking ass in high heels.
  • Cosplay Otaku Girl: She has numerous costumes, all worn to entertain Chiho.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Golden brown hair and eyes.
  • Death of a Thousand Cuts: One of her special moves involves doing this literally, by wrapping her target in her veil and then SHREDDING them with thousands of tiny cuts. It's one of the more vicious attacks in the series.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: After taking a fatal hit for Minato, Uzume bleeds out in his arms and ceases functioning.
  • Dressed Like a Dominatrix: As the Veiled Sekirei, she wears a very revealing white outfit with opera gloves and high-heeled boots. Her weapon is a long cloth that she can wrap her opponents in.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: She gets revived, reunited with Chiho and they move back in to House Izumo.
  • First Friend: Her Ashikabi, Chiho, spent all her time in the hospital and could never make friends until she met Uzume.
  • Forced into Evil: Higa is holding her Ashikabi Chiho hostage to force Uzume to eliminate other Sekirei. She knows it's wrong, but feels like there is no other choice.
  • Friendly Rivalry: With Kazehana, whom she refers to as "Big Sis".
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: She's usually feminine, but has had moments of not being afraid to be rowdy towards others for fun.
  • Iconic Outfit: Out of all the Sekirei clothes we've seen, from kimonos to battle wear, Uzume is known for pretty much being the most normal-looking Sekirei when not in battle mode. Simple jeans and a shirt, not standing out at all.
  • I'm Crying, but I Don't Know Why: When she finally reunites with Chiho, she still doesn't remember her yet she starts crying as proof that their bond wasn't severed by her termination.
  • Impossibly Cool Clothes: Those paper wraps should not be so sturdy with all her flipping and whatnot.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Her very close relationship to Minato ultimately amounts to a friendly sibling-like bond since she already loves Chiho and won't fall in love with another Ashikabi, although some serious flirting and teasing have taken place with Minato.
  • Magical Floating Shawl: Uzume's weapon is a white veil that she can manipulate at will. During battle, the veil usually hovers over her and circles her body.
  • Master of Threads: Uzume fights by psionically manipulating her veil. One of her special moves involves by wrapping her target in her veil and then shredding them with thousands of tiny cuts.
  • Minidress of Power: Her battle attire is a skimpy crop top and a miniskirt.
  • Nice Girl: She's a friendly and good person at heart even with her actions genuilly trying to save Chiho.
  • The Not-Love Interest: She's the only resident of Izumo Inn who doesn't join Minato's harem. Justified since Uzume already has her own Ashikabi (Chiho) so she and Minato naturally only see each other as friends.
  • Paper Cutting: With her veil, in particular when she attempts to intimidate Minato into getting out of her way.
  • Red Baron: The Veiled Sekirei, The Sekirei Hunter
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: She comes out of her bedroom in her underwear with no regards to Minato seeing her. When Kagari berates her for this, Uzume says she's at least wearing something.
  • Shipper on Deck: Any time Minato gets another Sekirei, she supports him and his growing Harem, much to his annoyance.
  • Stepford Smiler: She tries very hard to present a cheerful front to others, especially Chiho. Chiho, however, points out that their bond means she knows Uzume is really crying.
  • Stripperiffic: As the Veiled Sekirei, she fights in a skin-tight outfit that exposes her Underboobs, midriff, and thighs.
  • Taking the Bullet: She throws herself in the way to protect Minato (Musubi in the anime) from the attack from one of Higa's Sekirei, being fatally wounded as a result.
  • Tears of Joy: When reunited with Chiho, Uzume starts crying from happiness of seeing her Ashikabi again even though she can't remember her yet.
  • The Tease: She has a tendency to flirt with Minato as a part of her fun sometimes.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: She has some of her hair tied on the side of her head and the least typically girly girl in the inn.
  • Underboobs: Her Sekirei garb exposes the undersides of her boobs.

Chiho is Uzume's Ashikabi, and has been confined to a hospital since the death of her parents. Suffering from a terminal and incurable disease, she feels helpless to do anything for Uzume, who she knows is hiding something from her. Because of her condition, the owner of the hospital (Higa) is able to blackmail Uzume into working for him.

Sekirei: Uzume

  • Chastity Couple: Chiho and Uzume barely touch each other while being in a clear relationship. Justified by Chiho being bedridden. In the epilogue, it looks like they have become more intimate thanks to Chiho's illness being healed.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Her hair and eyes are a soft, light golden brown.
  • Damsel in Distress: Higa is holding her hostage at his family's hospital without her knowledge. If Uzume ever refuses his orders, Higa will have the hospital stop treating Chiho's illness, which would kill her in a few days.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: She's cured and reunited with Uzume in the finale.
  • Friendless Background: She couldn't make friends before meeting Uzume because she was hospitalized from a young age.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: Her room is filled with stuffed animals.
  • Heartwarming Orphan: Her parents passed away when she was young, leaving her completely alone.
  • Hostage Situation: The victim of one, and kept very much in the dark about it.
  • The Ingenue: Sweet, innocent, and utterly kind-hearted.
  • Intimate Hair Brushing: Uzume wears some of her hair in a side ponytail because Chiho styled it like that for her.
  • Lipstick Lesbian: The more feminine of the pair, though only because Uzume is an Action Girlfriend.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: She has no idea that the man who owns the hospital treating her is threatening to stop her treatment so Uzume eliminates Sekirei for him. While she doesn't know what Uzume is being forced to do to protect her, she can sense Uzume is very troubled about something.
  • Lonely Doll Girl: Before meeting Uzume, the only company she seemed to have were her stuffed animals.
  • Love at First Sight: When she first saw Uzume, she blushed and compared her to a pretty bird.
  • Nice Girl: One of the few Ashikabi that is good to the core.
  • Parental Abandonment: Has felt lonely ever since her parents died. Uzume changed that.
  • Satellite Love Interest: The only things known about her is that she's a cute ill girl and Uzume's Ashikabi/girlfriend. It makes sense, as Chiho had no family nor friends in her life before she met Uzume.
  • Soap Opera Disease: She suffers from a vague disease that kept her wheelchair-bound.
  • Tears of Joy: She can't hold back the tears when she's reunited with Uzume in the final chapters.
