  • Hand Wave: An animation error from the original version of "The Bubbler" that left Max without his glasses is given one; apparently, his mother was cleaning them for him when she got caught in one of the Bubbler's bubbles.
  • Headbutting Heroes: Chat Noir and Scarlet Lady were this from the start, but Marigold also taunts Scar with "Well, save us, hero" in front of a group of frightened civilian hostages in "Captain Hardrock." No wonder Luka chooses to pick up a weapon and convince the civilians onboard the houseboat to try to take their rescue into their own hands.
  • Hero with an F in Good: Chloé only does heroic things when it will benefit her or Tikki forces her to.
  • Heroic BSoD:
    • Sabrina goes into one in "Rogercop" after Chloé seemingly gets her father temporarily fired from his job.
    • Marinette gets one in "Timebreaker" when she realizes that luring Scarlet Lady down from her perch by filming her ignoring an akuma fight has just gotten the heroine tagged and destroyed by the villain.
    • Marigold enters one in "Zombizou" when Scarlet Lady gets turned into a "sweet heart"—because, without Scarlet Lady, there's seemingly no hope of turning everyone back.
    • Adrien freezes up near the beginning of "Queen Wasp" when he realizes he could have found out Scarlet Lady's Secret Identity back when he was Aspik and instead wasted the chance getting some (admittedly well-earned) revenge on her.
  • Heroic Bystander: Marinette, repeatedly. Even without a Miraculous of her own, she's good at making do with whatever she's got.
  • Hey, That's My Line!: Chloé's response to Tikki asking who the heck she is during their first meeting.
  • Hidden Agenda Hero: Marianne Lenore is set up as one by the finale of "Mr. Pigeon." The Ladybug and Black Cat's activation hint to her that Fu has returned, and she intends to scout out potential candidates for other Miraculous, starting with Xavier.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • The Gorilla is surprisingly good with kids, as evidenced with Manon, and seems to be a Marigold fan, judging by the fact that Adrien gave him a Marigold statuette in "Intermission." He also joins Adrien in watching Solitude and cries during the sad scenes.
    • Alix appears to be quite knowledgeable about Egyptian history and mythology, at least compared to her brother Jalil (which, to be fair, isn't saying much).
    • Nathalie has some serious martial arts skills, which she shows off in "Simon Says."
    • Alix reveals in "Intermission" that Sabrina (and implicitly Lila) has a certain talent in roller derby.
    • "The Mime" shows Marinette still has serious self-esteem issues stemming from Chloé's bullying, which resulted in her not having any friends before Alya showed up.
    • "Sandboy" reveals Rose does in fact have a violent side. She also seems to be stronger than she looks, given she was able to restrain Nightmare!Chat Noir in a Boston crab as a civilian.
    • Despite Pollen's cheerfulness and seeming naïveté, "Reverser" reveals that she learned a while ago that Marinette was originally meant to have the Ladybug Miraculous and has quietly (and sadly) accepted that once they get the Ladybug Miraculous back, she will have to leave her beloved Queen so that Marinette can partner with Tikki.
    • "Frozer" reveals both Luka and Kagami are very talented ice skaters. Not only that, but it's implied neither of them have received any formal training, with Kagami apparently having learned it just by watching the Martial Arts Skating Arc from Ranma ½.
    • Though Audrey seems like a walking example of Parental Neglect, she's actually kept up with some of major things going on in her daughter Chloé's life. Unfortunately for Chloé, her mother isn't the least bit impressed by what she's been up to.
  • Historical Hero Upgrade: In-Universe, D'Argencourt describes his knightly ancestor as a hero and the person who overthrew his reign as a villain who bought the public's loyalty. Adrien thinks to himself that if said ancestor "ruled with an iron fist" like D'Argencourt said and was defeated by someone who gave money to the poor, that doesn't exactly paint a heroic picture of him.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard: While trapping Juleka in the bathroom, Chloé actively hopes for her to get akumatized so she can 'show off' as Scarlet Lady. Reflekta's grudge against her winds up torpedoing her attempts to stop Marinette from stealing the photographer's SD card.
  • Honor Before Reason:
  • Horrifying the Horror: When Marinette betrays Evillustrator, the akuma declares that she is just like Chloé. The face Marinette makes in response causes Evillustrator to cower in fear.
  • Hypocrite:
    • Chloé, unsurprisingly, is a huge example of this:
      • To get Alya in trouble for looking inside Marinette's locker, Chloé melodramatically argues about the importance of Marinette's privacy, never mind that the entire AU started because Chloé stole the Ladybug earrings from Marinette's purse.
      • Chloé attempts to prevent Marinette from spending time practicing for the tournament with Adrien in "The Gamer," justifying it by claiming that Marinette is "going to put her grubby paws all over Adrien." Chloé is a blatant Personal Space Invader who keeps jumping at Adrien and grabbing him without permission.
      • In "Volpina," Scarlet Lady sees Marinette in Adrien's room and angrily asks why she's always where she isn't wanted. This ignores both how Adrien had actually invited Marinette in while Scarlet just barged into his room, as well as how Chloé regularly invites herself to class activities, assuming she didn't get Mme. Bustier to force the class to include her.
      • Upon seeing Lila show up at Marinette's birthday, Chloé demands to know who invited her when the only reason she herself got to come was because Bustier forced the class to invite her.
      • In a "Vanisher" flashback, Chloé tries to crash a Jagged Stone interview with Nadja Chamack by claiming to be Scarlet Lady's BFF, forgetting how she excused herself (as Scarlet Lady) for attacking Lila for the same claim. It is too dangerous for a civilian to do this, she said then. That's not even discounting how Scarlet told Chat Noir in "Rogercop" and then the guests at her party in "Despair Bear" that Chloé is her BFF.
      • When Officer Raincomprix decides to overlook Kitty Section being slightly over the legal decibel limit due to the spirit of the music festival, Chloé complains and tries to pressure him into shutting down the concert, declaring that the band is still breaking the letter of the law. Chloé regularly breaks the rules while avoiding any consequences by invoking her father's name.
      • Chloé refuses to take Tikki to a doctor in "Princess Fragrance" because it would ruin her attendance record, even though, as the Kwami points out, her attendance record has already been ruined due to her constantly leaving to show off as Scarlet Lady. She also mocks Marinette's tardiness soon afterwards despite showing up late to Mlle. Mendeleiev's class herself.
      • Scarlet Lady mocks Pigella for being afraid of a bunch of stuffed animals attacking them... while ignoring the fact that her own worst nightmare as Chloé was having her possessions turn against her.
      • Chloé mocks Marinette in "Style Queen" for "believing herself a designer"—conveniently forgetting that she's stolen Marinette's designs twice, with one of them being the same hat Marinette brought to the red carpet. She then mocks Marinette for signing the hat as well, also forgetting that she copied that part of the design as well, which was how Marinette was able to prove said plagiarism and win Gabriel's design contest.
    • Nino chooses Alya (Ladyblogger) and Adrien (model) as the celebrities to help him complete his challenge at the end of "Simon Says"; Alec protests that it isn't fair since they're both his friends. Nino then points out that Alec shouldn't be talking about fairness after essentially setting Simon up for failure last week by challenging him to get Gabriel to come down to the studio after first lying to the designer to get Gabriel to call in to the show. Then there's the fact that Alec still owes Aurore for rigging the weather girl contest against her.
    • Riposte berates Adrien for breaking her rules and running away from her relentless assault. Kagami herself flagrantly and repeatedly broke the rules during her match with Adrien.
    • Gabriel complains in "Captain Hardrock" that Adrien's piano skills are unimpressive and that he needs more practice when Gabriel himself hasn't touched a keyboard in ten years.
    • Nora refuses to let her sister Alya got the Place de la Concorde due to all the akuma attacks and insists on keeping her inside for her own safety... but says it's fine for Alya's friends Adrien, Marinette, and Nino to go (and later claims the three are all too weak to protect Alya if something happens).
    • A minor example when Desperada, upon seeing Jagged Stone offer her old job to Luka, accuses her former employer of replacing her with a school kid. Jagged reminds her that she's only two years older.
    • Tomoe reminds Kagami in "Ikari Gozen" that she has to be like Tomoe Gozen, a female samurai warrior in an age where warrior women were people that had to go against society—while also forcing Kagami into a stifling, regimented life that leaves her daughter with no space for going against the current.
    • Marinette points out in a scathing "The Reason You Suck" Speech she gives to Mme. Bustier that despite her teacher claiming that "All it takes for evil to succeed is for good people to do nothing," Bustier refuses to do anything about Chloé's bullying behavior.
    • Audrey tells Gabriel not to overdo it in "Queen Wasp" when he says he fired the person responsible for the seating arrangements, never mind that she got akumatized over it and tends to react to even the slightest inconvenience with Disproportionate Retribution.
  • Hypocrite Has a Point: Scarlet Lady mocks Pigella's nightmare in "Sandboy" of being attacked by harmless stuffed animals, conveniently ignoring that her own nightmare as Chloé was being attacked by her clothes and other belongings. Nevertheless, she isn't completely wrong about Pigella's fear being an Absurd Phobia; Marinette is implied to feel the same about Rose's similar fear of their stuffed animals running away because they hate their owner.
  • Hypocritical Humor:
    • Once again, there are many instances of this regarding Chloé:
      • In "Mr. Pigeon," Chloé declares she'll win the contest with her own original designs and that Adrien was only complimenting Marinette's work because he was being nice. She then promptly orders Sabrina to steal Marinette's sketchbook (clearly intending to use them herself and knowing they are good enough to win with).
      • When Chloé starts mocking Mylène in "Horrificator" for having a lullaby she uses to calm herself down, Adrien shuts her up with two words: "Mr. Cuddly." Ivan then tells Chloé off for scaring Mylène and declares that she sucks. Chloé scoffs and asks who thinks that she sucks, to which everybody immediately raises their hands. She responds by asking who asked them. Lastly, she claims Sabrina, Kim, and Max fell for Marinette's Snipe Hunt ruse when she was the one who dragged the others into it.
      • She complains in "Reflekta" that an akuma had to appear now (when she's trying to prevent Marinette from deleting the class photo) of all times, even though she purposely caused Juleka's akumatization earlier.
      • In "Riposte," when Chloé asks why no one has signed up for her BFF tryouts, her classmates all bring up bad things she did to them in the past, to which she asks who asked them.
      • When Kagami shows up to demand a place in the fencing school, Chloé disparages, "Wow, what a noisy show off," all while Marc and Marinette give her raised eyebrows from her right and left, respectively. She later makes a similar comment about Marinette when the latter performs an impressive flip in "Robostus" to avoid tripping.
      • In "Princess Fragrance," Chloé mocks Rose's perfume, saying it smells like rotten fish. She has the same perfume in her locker, as Sabrina immediately reminds her.
      • When Chloé tells Jean in "Despair Bear" that Adrien's just being dramatic by ending their friendship, the butler sarcastically thinks to himself that, "Yes, he's the dramatic one."
      • In "Ikari Gozen," Ryūko deliberately lets herself be captured by the titular akuma as part of Marigold's plan. Chloé, not knowing this, calls Ryūko a loser for getting caught, all while trapped inside Ikari Gozen after having been caught first.
      • Though she was planning on making her father close the ice rink in "Frozer" due to low attendance, she shows up there wearing an ice skater outfit. This might just be due to her being Crazy-Prepared in her plan to ruin Adrien and Marinette's date, though.
    • When Marinette tries to defend herself against Chloé's accusations of theft in "Rogercop," Tom tells her that this sort of thing should be left to the adults... and then proceeds to do nothing, with the other adults in the room being equally unhelpful. A short while later, he asks Alya what happened to Marinette, apparently failing to notice Chloé dragging Marinette off to the akuma. Upon learning about it, he's furious that Alya didn't try to stop them, but Alya nonchalantly retorts that he didn't, either.
    • When Master Fu catches Chloé spying on Marinette and Adrien in "The Gamer", he tells her to step off his "spying tree."
    • After Sabine calls Marinette "cheeky" in "Timebreaker" while pulling her daughter's cheeks, she pouts when Marinette says coming back in time will be a "piece of cake."
    • M. Agreste calls Simon pathetic for attempting to control him seconds before running to send a butterfly to control Simon.
    • At the end of "Simon Says," Alec complains about the unfair way Nino beats his second challenge.
Nino: Do you really want to talk about what's fair? After last week?
    Alec: Uhhhh...
    • Lila laughs loudly at the idea of anyone exploiting her classmates for favors, something she knows she would have done if her lies had not been exposed.
Kim: So you lied about knowing famous people. It's not like you had us do your homework or carry your stuff!
Lila: HAHAHAHA! Yeah, who would do that?!
Lila: [Thinking, in a sweat] They can never know...
    • Gabriel complains in "Captain Hardrock" that Adrien's piano skills are unimpressive and that he needs more practice when Gabriel himself hasn't touched a keyboard in ten years.
    • Hawkmoth declares in "Sapotis" that children should be able to do whatever they want, whenever they want. Cue Adrien (who has lived under Gabriel's Control Freak parenting his entire life) violently sneezing.
Caption: "Someone must be talking a lot of bullshit somewhere."
Tags: #Really wish Nathalie was recording all of Hawkmoth's little speeches to play back at him so he can hear what a hypocrite he is
    • At the beginning of "Robostus," Pollen and Marinette comment on how weird it is for Max to have his best friend riding in his bag. Pollen makes these comments from the comfort of her best friend Marinette's bag.
    • Master Fu tells Adrien the Horse Miraculous is "very important" and must be "treated with the utmost care"... right before admitting he uses it to get his hometown's specialty tea anytime he wants.
    • Tikki laments in "Reflekta" that without her influence, Marinette is (seemingly) becoming a criminal. In "Sandboy" three seasons later, Tikki steals Chloé's diamond scrunchie to give to Nooroo and is absolutely gleeful at the thought of Chloé noticing it's missing, complete with a Cheshire Cat Grin.
    • It's painfully obvious that Gabriel wants nothing to do with anything that celebrates his adversaries, but he still forces Adrien to do as he demands and play Chat Noir in Clara Nightingale's music video.
    • When Zoé nervously asks the heroes to not kill Malediktator after the Lucky Charm takes the shape of a rocket launcher, Marigold reassures the civilian they'd never use such violent methods. Scarlet then silently recalls the many times they did defeat the akuma though violent means, often by beaning the akuma in the head hard enough to make them lose consciousness.

    I
  • I Can't Do This by Myself: In "Reflekta," without the help of Sabrina, Chloé is outwitted by Marinette, who manages to delete the incriminating video of herself and also to get away with the camera chip with the photo she wants to delete. Subverted, as Chloé ultimately refuses to admit how much she needs Sabrina.
  • I Kiss Your Hand: Chat Noir does this regularly to Marinette, as a demonstration of his feelings for her.
    • The first instance of him doing this is in "Stormy Weather" after she suggests that Chat Noir keep the akuma "grounded."
    • He does it again in "Mr. Pigeon" after she suggests how to use the Lucky Charm, praising her as a true visionary.
    • Chat Noir kisses Marinette's hand twice in "Reflekta": once while she's Maotif, and again when she's returning the ring to him.
    • He also does this in "Vanisher" after Marinette suggests that he trust in Marigold, who is secretly Marinette.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: One of the bonus panels for "The Pharaoh" shows that this was Mr. Kubdel's reaction to witnessing his son's rampage as the titular akuma.
  • I Reject Your Reality:
    • Chloé is extremely prone to this, ignoring any aspects of reality that clashes with what she wants:
      • Despite stealing the earrings from Marinette's purse—and Tikki brightly greeting Marinette when she first manifests before realizing that something's wrong—Chloé has convinced herself that she was The Chosen One right from the start. When Tikki attempts to remind her of this in "Lady Wifi," Chloé outright ignores the Kwami.
      • In "Rogercop," Chloé insists that Marinette stole her bracelet despite the complete lack of evidence and even after the latter empties her bag (and, it's implied, her pockets). She's so convinced of it that she drags Marinette to the akuma and tries to get him to arrest her, even agreeing to get into Rogercop's car and letting him drive off with her and Marinette so they can further discuss the matter, effectively getting herself and Marinette kidnapped in the process.
      • "Reflekta" shows that she's so delusional about the nature of her relationship with Adrien that she obsesses over saving "her photo with [him]"... despite the fact that said photo captures him shoving her off of him. Sabrina pointing this out causes her to snap at her and angrily changing the subject to her friend's "weird behavior" instead.
      • In "Simon Says," Chloé is watching a game show hoping to see Adrien, even though "it's Nino who's being featured." At the end of the episode, she tries to do some …But He Sounds Handsome Compliment Fishing from Adrien regarding Scarlet Lady. However...
Chloé: Adrihoney~! I heard you got visited by the amazing Scarlet Lady.
Adrien: [yawning] Ugh, yeah, and I have the eyebags to prove it.
Chloé: Soooo? Isn't she ultra fab? Don't you just love her?
        Adrien: Ew. No.
Caption: This answer will be dutifully ignored on the basis that it wasn't the one Chloe wanted to hear.
      • Upon learning that Adrien apparently wrote a Valentine's Day poem for Marigold, Chloé declares she'll make herself his valentine and proceeds to forge his signature on a perfume ad poster of him. She then tries to show off her poster in front of Adrien's fan club, only for them to immediately recognize the forgery and call her out on her lie. The poster later seemingly has had its bottom signed portion torn off, yet she continues to treat it as if it really were autographed by Adrien, even buying a 24-carat gold frame for her ripped poster and crying over the poster when it gets destroyed.
      • At the end of "Despair Bear," she insists Adrien is just being overdramatic with breaking off his friendship with her and that they're still friends because she forgives him for teasing her.
      • Despite how effectivey Marigold coordinates the heroes in "Party Crasher," Scarlet Lady shows up claiming they were all completely hopeless beforehand.
      • Happens a couple times in "Malediktator":
      • Chloé insists to Zoé that Sabrina will eventually learn that "she needs [Chloé]" and return to her, ignoring how Sabrina not only ended their friendship months ago but has made new friends since then (flying in the face of Chloé's claims that she'd be friendless without her) and currently feels nothing but contempt towards Chloé. In fact, Sabrina reacts to her announcing that she's leaving Paris by happily hugging Lila.
      • Related to the above, even though it's clear that she's Hated by All at her school, Chloé seems to genuinely think that everyone will be upset that she's leaving, hence her going out of her way to try and rub it in their faces. Granted, this may be more that she thinks they'll envy her getting to go to New York, but she's still severely underestimating how much everyone hates having her around and thus how happy they'll be to see her gone.
      • When confronted with Alya's exposé about how much of a Nominal Heroine she is, Scarlet's only defense is to insist that it's defamation. One interpretation of this is that the Ladybug heroine is trying to dismiss the entire article of her exploits as lies and refuses to acknowledge that it's detailing actual instances of her unheroic behavior.
    • Alya briefly falls into this after personally witnessing in "Despair Bear" that Scarlet Lady is really just The Millstone to Chat Noir and Marigold. She grasps at straws to avoid admitting that she completely misjudged the Ladybug heroine but breaks out of this and admits she was mistaken by the end of "Sapotis."
  • I Take Offense to That Last One: This is a Running Gag in the comic, where someone will make a disparaging comment about Chloé and she will only react to part of it. For example, when Marinette stands up to Chloé, she declares that "I'm standing up to ALL supervillains, and a lowlife like YOU is no exception! I'm done taking orders from you and your stupid ponytail, so sit down!" Chloé's utterly outraged that she insulted her ponytail.
  • I Was Beaten by a Girl: Max takes being defeated by Marinette at Ultimate Mecha Strike III much more personally than he does being beaten by Adrien, to the point that even Hawkmoth feels the need to remind him that he was beaten by two people, not just her.
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: Each episode retains its original title, but adds a subtitle: "Tales of [Featured Character] the [Character Description]." Each page includes a header image of the featured character, either wearing their superhero attire or an outfit styled after their akumatized form.
  • Idiot Ball: In "Kung Food," Chloé has a firm grip on this when she sabotages Cheng's dish and leaves her purse behind at his station. Not only is this evidence of what she's done, Tikki is still inside, meaning dealing with the vengeful akuma is going to be a LOT trickier. The author comments, "Just because you treat the hotel as your whole ass house doesn’t mean you leave your stuff everywhere!"
  • Idiots Cannot Catch Colds: In "Syren," Kim is proud that Max considers him too dense to catch a cold.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: In "Dark Cupid," Kagami doesn't outright say it but internally notes if Kim breaks Ondine's heart, she'll maim him.
  • Ignorant of the Call: It's fairly clear to everyone that Marinette is a better superhero than Scarlet Lady, but she just sees it as helping with akuma attacks when Scarlet Lady won't.
  • Implausible Deniability: Chloé for some reason insists Sabrina must be lying about getting her hand caught in a box while trying to steal Marinette's diary even as Sabrina is yelling and waving her box-trapped hand right in front of her.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • The Lucky Charm objects are the same as in canon for each villain. The author has explained that Tikki does this intentionally as a way to spite Scarlet Lady, knowing that Marinette would have figured out how to use them, which she often does (and in the same way she used them in canon) despite not being Ladybug. Even when she isn't around to come up with a plan involving the Lucky Charm, the heroes will typically manage to defeat the akuma with it anyway, often by accident or by simply using the object as a blunt force or ballistic weapon.
      • Marinette and Adrien still enter a two-person love square, but this time, Adrien prefers the civilian and Marinette loves the superhero. Marinette being given the Bee Miraculous and becoming Marigold complicates things a bit, though it gets resolved when the two eventually figure out each other's secret identities.
    • Despite Chloé/Marinette, Alya/Nino, and Mylène/Sabrina undergoing Kwami swaps and Lila being given the Rooster Miraculous, most of the other heroes still use the same Miraculous as they did in canon.
    • "Origins":
      • Marinette helps defeat Stoneheart during his first appearance in much as the same way she did in canon despite Chloé being the Ladybug heroine instead.
      • Marinette still makes her speech to Hawkmoth when he tries to pin the blame for his actions on the heroes, though Chat suspects that part of it is her venting about someone else.
      • Chat Noir's response to the Ladybug heroine's speech as she purifies the akumas that make up Hawkmoth's face is very similar to what he said in the canon episode. Here, though, he instead proclaims that he hates Scarlet Lady, regardless of who she is under the mask.
      • While she doesn't fight him as Ladybug, Marinette's involvement in the Stoneheart incident nevertheless fuels her resolve to stand up for herself more and not put up with Chloé's attitude anymore.
      • Marinette and Adrien still fall for each other even without the former being Ladybug, and the umbrella scene between them still happens.
    • "Lady Wifi":
      • Just like in canon, Alya wrongly assumes one of her classmates, in this case Marinette, is the Ladybug heroine after seeing her with a yo-yo despite said classmate having a solid alibi during the Stoneheart incident. Nino also tries to disprove Alya's initial guess as to whom the Ladybug heroine is by pointing out the major difference in personalities between the heroine and the person Alya's accusing, though since Chloé is the wielder of the Ladybug Miraculous, he has to point out that Marinette isn't bitchy enough.
      • Alya still gets sent to the principal's office for snooping through another student's locker, even though the locker belonged to Marinette, who didn't know about what Alya did and likely wouldn't have been bothered even if she did know. Moreover, Principal Damocles still hits Alya with a week-long suspension after Chloé (who is mad at Alya for simply suspecting Marinette is Scarlet Lady) threatens to call her father if Damocles doesn't come down hard enough on Alya. It gets rescinded, however, after Alya's mother calls to complain.
      • Despite Adrien having grown smarter due to his experiences with Scarlet Lady, he still holds the Idiot Ball for most of the episode, failing to realize that Alya's hunch is wrong despite having already seen the Ladybug heroine and the person Alya suspects next to each other during the Stoneheart incident. Likewise, though Plagg does figure this out, he still teases Adrien about the prospect of Alya being right to mess with his holder.
    • "Copycat":
      • Here, Adrien's exhaustion due to having to be a Hypercompetent Sidekick has affected his performance in his fencing classes, leading to D'Argencourt forcing him to stay behind for some one-on-one practice during the statue unveiling. Meanwhile, Scarlet Lady, ever the Attention Whore, makes sure she attends. Thus, as in canon, only one of the original heroes make it to the event while the other misses it due to their civilian life.
      • Théo's akumatization is still triggered by his jealousy of the Ladybug heroine and Chat Noir's supposed relationship, even though the pair can barely stand each other here. Rather than Chat deliberately lying about how close they are, Scarlet Lady describes Adrien to Théo, unaware that all of her gushing descriptions also apply to her partner, with Théo leaping to the obvious conclusion.
      • Like in canon, Théo gives up on his crush on the Ladybug heroine by the end of "Copycat." Here, however, it's because he's seen her true colors.
      • Théo also develops a crush on Marinette here, though on her civilian self after she defends him against Scarlet Lady's insults. Moreover, Chat Noir still intervenes to ensure it's a fleeting crush.
    • "Mr. Pigeon":
      • Even without Tikki's comment about Xavier, Marinette still decides to add feathers to her derby hat.
      • When Chloé decides to steal Marinette's design for the contest, Sabrina suggests that Chloé just pick up and use one of the many designs Marinette has already balled up and tossed aside. Chloé doesn't listen, though, and she stills ends up copying Marinette and then gets disqualified when her plagiarism is discovered.
    • "Rogercop":
      • Despite Tikki being present in Chloé's purse to prevent him from looking for Camembert, Plagg still ends up causing Chloé's bracelet to go missing after getting it stuck on his head. In this case, however, it's because Tikki kicks him out, causing him to fly right into the bracelet in his panic.
      • Seeing Mayor Bourgeois dismiss her own father from his job at her "best friend" Chloé's behest sends Sabrina into a Heroic BSoD. Thus, when Nino's video reveals that she was the last person seen holding the bracelet, Sabrina doesn't even bother protesting having her bag searched. This in turn leads to Marinette emptying her bag to prove to Chloé she doesn't have the bracelet, either (in canon, Marinette agreed to let her bag be searched on the condition that the same be done to the other suspects' bags since there was evidence against all of them and she refused to be singled out simply due to Chloé's biases). Nevertheless, her bully isn't assuaged one bit and remains convinced that Marinette is the thief.
      • Sabrina doesn't cause Nathaniel's sketch of the bracelet to fall to the ground due to basically having shutdown after her father's apparent firing. However, Kim ends up noticing the drawing anyway, though Nathaniel quickly points out how he never left his seat, which immediately rules him out as a suspect.
      • Max and Kim still float the idea of Adrien being a potential suspect by pointing out how he was in the video for four seconds and has since disappeared, respectively. Like in canon, the holder of the Ladybug Miraculous (though Chloé instead of Marinette) arbitrarily dismisses the possibility of Adrien being the thief due to her crush on him.
    • "Darkblade":
      • Though the webcomic depicts Mayor Bourgeois losing the support of all the adults present at Parent's Career Day in "Rogercop" due to his abuse of his authority, he still wins re-election.
      • Marinette still runs against Chloé to become the next class president, though it's much less spur-of-the-moment.
    • "The Gamer":
      • In spite of coming up with another theory for being better than Adrien at Ultimate Mecha Strike III, Marinette still gives him her amulet.
      • Max apologizes to Marinette after he has a Jerkass Realization about how he treated her instead of the other way around. However, he still ends up competing alongside her in the tournament when Adrien drops out due to realizing he's worse at co-op than Max is.
    • "Reflekta":
      • Though Sabrina refuses to do her dirty work for her, Chloé simply traps Juleka in the bathroom stall herself.
      • Marinette still takes up the Cat Miraculous in a fight against Reflekta, only this time, it's during the akuma's first appearance.
      • Marinette's first meeting with a Kwami has her utter a very similar line to the one she did in canon: "Tiny cat! Mouse! Tiny cat-mouse!"
    • "Timebreaker"
      • Ondine is present at the race and offers to hold race banner for Marinette so the latter can hang on to the watch. Chloé still snatches it and causes it to get broken (though on purpose instead of by accident, like in the show). Then, in the second timeline, she drops the watch in spite of not being told by any future heroes to put it down, though Timebreaker ends up blaming one of the heroes for it anyway.
      • Marinette is on top of her priorities due to not being the Ladybug heroine, telling her parents that she'll be leaving to watch her friends race and leaving enough time to get back so she can give Nadja the cake the reporter ordered. Nevertheless, Marinette still gets a call from her dad due to Nadja calling Tom to demand she be given her cake after arriving at the bakery twenty minutes early.
    • "Simon Says":
      • It's hinted that Gabriel knew, here, that the show was trying to trick him into appearing but went along with it anyway, hoping to set a contestant up for a fall. As a result, Simon is still akumatized.
      • Despite not being the Ladybug heroine, Marinette still visits the Agreste mansion because she wasn't grounded, could attend the TV studio to watch Nino be on the show, and avoided being hypnotized by the villain by hiding.
    • "Volpina":
      • Plagg is more alert due to the heavy burden Adrien is saddled with, but he still fails to notice the Peacock Brooch hidden inside Gabriel's wall safe.
      • A few in the class already know what a Nominal Heroine Scarlet Lady is. Nevertheless, Lila still lies about being friends with the Ladybug heroine, only this time, the claim doesn't endear her to everyone (it horrifies Marinette, Nino, and Alix).
      • Adrien despises Scarlet Lady here, but due to Chloé butting in, Lila fails to pick up on this and remains under the belief that he has a soft spot for the Ladybug heroine, leading to her telling him she and Scarlet Lady are best friends, stealing the book on the Miraculous, lying to him about being rescued by the Ladybug heroine, and faking being the Fox heroine when meeting up with him at the park, all of which also happened in canon.
      • The holder of the Ladybug Miraculous still spies on Lila and Adrien, but it's Chloé instead of Marinette. Additionally, despite seeing Adrien realize on his own that Lila is a liar and then call her out on it, the Ladybug heroine still humiliates Lila in front of Adrien and subsequently causes her akumatization into Volpina, though Scarlet Lady responding with Disproportionate Retribution makes Lila's grudge far more understandable here.
      • Marinette ends up with the book in spite of not having followed Adrien and Lila to the park in this fic.
      • As he is a Dumbass No More, Chat Noir is immediately suspicious when "Hawkmoth" appears in front of him, Scarlet Lady, and Volpina and soon deduces that the villain's presence is Schmuck Bait. However, he still fails to realize that Volpina is an akuma and the one behind the trap. Likewise, Chat Noir still gets separated from the Ladybug heroine and Volpina due to the latter successfully fooling him into thinking she's a hero, but here, he leaves due to being sick of Scarlet Lady and Volpina's bickering.
      • Volpina still uses an illusion to make it appear she's taken Adrien hostage, though here, Scarlet Lady tells the akuma to just drop Adrien. Annoyed, Chat Noir throws his baton to dispel the illusion, just as he did in canon.
      • Master Fu still gets to see the Miraculous spellbook at the end of the episode, but it's Plagg who suggests the visit and Adrien who brings the book to him.
    • "The Collector":
      • Adrien still ends up missing school due to losing his father's book since he couldn't tell his father that he gave it to Master Fu. Here, though, it's only because he was grounded for it and not because Gabriel pulled him out of school as punishment (though that was his original plan before he downgraded it after Adrien blackmailed his father by threatening to inform the media of Gabriel's Disproportionate Retribution).
      • Though Marinette had returned the Grimoire to Adrien before Volpina's defeat, she still visits Agreste mansion into speak with Gabriel about reversing Adrien's punishment, not knowing that Adrien hadn't yet told Gabriel that the book had been found. It leads to Adrien's punishment being reversed anyway after Adrien corroborates Marinette's story by pulling out the Grimoire that he just got back from Fu and claiming he didn't mention it sooner because he didn't think his father would've listened, a point which Gabriel awkwardly concedes.
    • "La Befana":
      • Even though Marinette didn't try to lie that the call from Alya was about a dentist visit, she still lied about liking and eating the candies Gina gave her, and that alone was enough to draw the fire of La Befana.
      • Among the gifts Marinette receives at her birthday party is Tikki's Kwagatama.
    • "Kung Food":
      • Chloé still gets tied up to be cooked in soup, and Marinette still helps Chat Noir rescue her and fight against the titular villain's brainwashed minions, though as her civilian self since she isn't the Ladybug heroine.
      • Even without the Ladybug yo-yo, Marinette and Chat Noir defeat Jagged and lock him in a closet after he falls in headfirst, which is followed by one of them reclining on a chair while sliding it into place against the closet door before fist bumping the other. Here, though, Marinette stands in front of the closet door while pressing Jagged Stone's Berserk Button (by comparing him to XY), then steps aside and opens the door as Jagged charges at her, causing the rockstar to fall inside. Additionally, Chat Noir is the one who slides the chair in place instead.
      • Marinette's response to Chat Noir's flirting as they're in the elevator uses almost the same words as in canon ("like up"), though since she reciprocates the superhero's feelings here, she instead says the words in a flustered tone as she awkwardly tries to flirt back.
      • Mayor Bourgeois doesn't attempt to imitate Ladybug's moves with her yo-yo since Marinette obviously doesn't have it here, meaning he presumably doesn't accidentally cause the chandelier to fall from the ceiling, either. Nevertheless, he still ends up lying tangled in his own string of sausages, which here is due Chat Noir giving the mayor an immediate Non-Lethal K.O. in the face with his baton before tying the mayor up with the sausage string. Moreover, Chat Noir and Marinette still end up climbing through a hole to get onto the next floor of the hotel, right before Alec and Marlena arrive to intercept them.
      • Alec and Marlena still get taken out by each other's weapons, though here, an enraged Chat Noir takes the two down on his own after seeing Alec make Marinette's eyes sting with a cheese bomb. He shoots Alec after seizing hold of Marlena's bow and arrows and then throws Marlena on top of Alec, causing the latter's cheese bombs to explode in her face.
      • Chloé is still caught by one of the original heroes (Chat Noir in this case) just as she's about to fall into the soup.
    • "Evillustrator":
      • Chat Noir refuses to do Chloé's physics homework for her (in canon he was nearly tricked into doing it). She quickly drives him off, whereas in canon he left after a call from Ladybug. In both cases, he leaves without doing her work for her.
      • Marinette doesn't have the Ladybug yo-yo phone, but she is still able to tell Chat Noir about Evillustrator's invitation. Chat simply comes to her when he spots the akuma leaving from her window.
    • "Riposte":
      • Marinette falls in love with Chat Noir over Adrien, but she still decides to attend the fencing tryouts, though only in the hopes that getting accepted could help her improve her combat skills, which will be useful for her as Marigold, rather than just to get closer to Adrien like in canon.
      • Marinette immediately recognizes that Kagami shoving Adrien off the mat is a corps-a-corps violation and calls for the bout to be halted. D'Argencourt completely ignores her, and Adrien and Kagami end up in the library anyway.
      • Even though there is a larger set of witnesses to the end of the bout between Adrien and Kagami, one of whom even tries to analyze rule breakages during the bout, D'Argencourt still declares Adrien the winner based on a biased call from someone with an obsessive crush on Adrien.
      • Adrien still gets an ankle injury from saving a hero. This time, it's because the highly inexperienced Marigold doesn't notice of an incoming attack due to stopping to reassure Adrien.
      • The radiator Lucky Charm is used to defeat Riposte in the same way as canon because Marinette is part of the fight as Marigold and works out how to use it. The author notes in the tags that it's better than just throwing it like past Lucky Charms have been used in the comic.
    • "Captain Hardrock":
      • Rather than Anarka Couffaine being so loud and obnoxious that she gets into a conflict with the police all by herself, Chloé takes an active role and files a complaint with the police before a single not has been played out of revenge for getting kicked off Anarka's boat. Anarka tries to explain things to Officer Raincomprix, but things quickly devolve into senseless bickering and Roger ticketing Anarka for various Felony Misdemeanors. The result is still an akumatized Anarka.
      • Marinette doesn't have the Ladybug Miraculous or Tikki in this universe, but Pollen just frees her from Captain Hardrock's chains instead.
    • "Syren":
      • A new hero still helps Chat Noir to round up escaped zoo animals, but it's Marigold rather than Rena Rouge. The Ladybug heroine is absent, however.
      • Even though Kim thinks Chloé is "a pain," Ondine thinks he's saying that he's running off to the movies because Chloé's there. Ondine thus still gets akumatized over jealousy of Chloé. The author comments in the tags, "Catch me still trying to figure out why Kim liked Chloé in canon."
      • As in canon, one of two original heroes is called to Master Fu's shop to help with power-up formulas, and they discuss how the other original hero is starting to feel left out of the loop. Unlike in canon, the left-out character is Scarlet Lady, and neither Adrien nor Master Fu shows her any sympathy or has any intention of letting her know anything.
      • Marinette still comes up with a way to acquire a tear of joy for the aqua potion by telling jokes to Master Fu because Chat Noir brought Marigold along to see him.
    • "Dark Cupid":
      • Adrien still writes a love poem for his crush on Valentine's Day. Like in canon, the intended recipient is Marinette (of course, he was naturally unaware of Marinette being Ladybug's secret identity in the show). Moreover, in response to a question, the author says the words of the poem are identical to canon. This means that "I wonder who you are beneath that strong disguise" is, here, a poetic way of saying he wants to know Marinette better.
      • Adrien's poem still gets intercepted by the holder of the Ladybug Miraculous, who thinks the poem is about herself. In this version, of course, it's Chloé, and Adrien deflects her questions by pretending the poem is for Marigold.
      • Like in the show, Chloé attempts to trick Adrien's fan club into thinking she's his valentine using a signed poster that apparently has his signature. However, rather than tricking him into signing it, she instead forges the signature herself, which leads to his fan club immediately recognizing that it's fake and calling Chloé out on her lie. Nevertheless, Chloé continues to treasure her "autographed" poster and buys a gold frame for it, much like she did in the show, having deluded herself into thinking her own forgery is legitimate. Later, her poster still ends up ruined, but not by Sabrina, who's stopped hanging out with Chloé; instead a corrupted Marigold destroys it while attacking Chat Noir.
      • Chloé still causes Kim's akumatization—not by rejecting him (though she does reject him out of a sheer [[itsAllAboutMe self-centered belief]] that he was trying to confess to her when he wasn't) but by making Ondine, whom Kim was actually trying to confess to, think Kim loves Chloé.
      • In spite of not being under Dark Cupid's influence, Sabrina still humiliates Chloé, whom she already ended her friendship with.
      • A brainwashed hero sides with Dark Cupid, but here, it's to defend herself from a forced kiss, which was treated much less seriously in canon since it was female on male.
      • The Ladybug hero still defeats Dark Cupid after getting him sticky with a candy apple, but it's with an enraged throw of her Lucky Charm rather than a thought-out plan. The author says, "You Unlocked Useful Scarlet Lady through sheer force of Rage."
    • "Animan":
      • Nino doesn't have a crush on Marinette, here, but he, Alya, Adrien, and Marinette still decide to go to the zoo together as part of a plan to set the latter two up together.
      • Alya and Nino still wind up locked in a zoo cage together in but this time, it's a deliberate act by Marigold to get them to spend time alone together, since she knows that Alya likes Nino.
    • "Puppeteer":
      • Even though there are dolls of other villains from episodes that took place before "Puppeteer" in this AU, Manon still chooses the Lady Wifi, Rogercop, and Evillustrator dolls to play with.
      • Marinette still uses the Mouse Miraculous, only it's against Puppeteer instead of Kwamibuster, and rather than choosing it herself, she has it lent to her by Chat Noir (who doesn't realize that she is Marigold, whom he had told to sit out the battle after her doll was taken).
      • Marinette still deliberately makes her appearance as Multimouse a one-shot. In canon, she used an elaborate illusion to make "Marinette" expose her secret; here, she simply takes off the Mouse Miraculous and hands it back to Chat Noir in public.
    • "Pixelator":
      • Adrien and Chloé are still digitized together by Pixelator in spite of Chloé having more akuma experience in this AU.
      • Even though she didn't waste any time on a bad pair of shades, Marinette still ends up at the right place at the right time to overhear Pixelator zapping his way into Jagged's hotel room.
    • "Princess Fragrance":
      • Tikki is still the one who gets sick, but Chloé is much less sympathetic towards the Kwami's plight. The rainy weather that caused it still happened despite the heroes having fought a different akuma.
      • Marinette is still denied entry to the hotel and forced to sneak inside disguised as a pizza delivery person in a motorcycle helmet on a quest to save Tikki. Unlike in canon, though, here, she initially tried to gain entrance as Marigold, only to get refused because of how magic ladybugs messed up the hotel in "Vanisher."
      • Tikki still ends up in the car with Prince Ali as he's trying to escape Princess Fragrance. The difference is that Chloé accidentally flings Tikki in while trying to get into the car herself, only for Kagami to block her because of her stench. Additionally, Chat Noir still enters the car and gets brainwashed when Princess Fragrance fills it with perfume.
      • Though she isn't the Ladybug heroine, Marinette still takes Tikki to Master Fu for healing. (She has known where to find Fu since "Syren," when Chat Noir took her to see him without permission.)
    • "Sapotis":
      • Alya is still researching the Ladybug hero at the start of the episode, but instead of trying to guess her hero's identity, she's coming up with explanations for Scarlet Lady's bad behavior at the party in "Despair Bear."
    • Chat Noir is the one who goes to Master Fu for the Fox Miraculous and chooses the temporary hero. Nevertheless, the Miraculous is still offered to a classmate and friend of Marinette and Adrien, who accepts in the hopes of rescuing a sibling. Rather than Alya, it's Nino, whose little brother Chris was kidnapped by the akuma.
    • "Anansi":
      • Marinette is still the one who visits Master Fu and asks if she can borrow the Turtle Miraculous from him because Chat Noir still ends up stuck in the giant web.
      • The Turtle Miraculous is still lent out despite Nino being captured by the titular akuma instead of Alya, with the latter using it to become Koki Marina.
    • "Troublemaker":
      • Like in canon, Marinette's bedroom ends up on live TV, and Jagged Stone embarrasses her when he comments on how she has more photos of her crush (who is secretly also Adrien here) than she does of the rockstar and teases her about it. She also subsequently has a meltdown while her Kwami tries to calm her down.
      • Even though Scarlet Lady isn't present to summon Lucky Charm, one of the heroes (namely Marigold, who is also Marinette) still gets the idea of trapping Troublemaker by putting glue on their Miraculous.
    • "Desperada":
      • Though Marinette immediately recommends him as Jagged's new guitarist, Luka still doesn't get a chance to accept the offer before Desperada shows up. Here, it's due to Chloé intruding on their conversation to demand Jagged reimburse her for the shoes Fang ate at the end of the previous episode.
      • Adrien still uses the Snake Miraculous first after being chosen by the Ladybug heroine and Marinette (as Marigold), and it still ends up being a one-time thing despite Adrien having taken a level in badass due to his Deliberate Under-Performance.
    • "Zombizou":
      • Due to being chewed out by Marinette for wanting her to forgive Chloé for ruining her gift, Zombizou's first target is instead Marinette. Despite both this and the fact that Chloé left the classroom before Zombizou arrived, Sabrina (whom Chloé used as a Human Shield in canon) still ends up being the first victim when one of the kisses gets her as she tries to escape. The page's caption even points this out.
      • Even though Juleka defends Rose from some of the zombies, Rose still manages to get kissed without anyone noticing.
      • Chat Noir still ends up getting infected by the zombies at the Eiffel Tower, the difference being that rather than willingly staying behind to hold them off, he gets distracted while protecting Marinette when Scarlet Lady tries to push her into them.
      • Mme. Bustier still gets a belated birthday present from Chloé, but this is no breakthrough for either of them. In a note, the author snarks, "Here's your consolation gift for being Chloe's biggest enabler, Bustier."
    • "The Mime":
      • Marinette doesn't try to re-create a lost video, but she still ends up near the Louvre to see the akuma's initial attack. Mylène is there too, since she and Marinette want to ask Alix how to restore the lost file.
      • The Eiffel Tower is still knocked over despite the titular akuma being defeated differently; instead of being cut down by him, the tower is Cataclysmed by Chat Noir to get Scarlet Lady's attention so she can come and purify the akuma.
    • "Reverser":
      • Marc still writes The Diary of Ladybug rather than a story about Scarlet Lady or Marigold. Their story is an AU in which Marigold is the Ladybug heroine instead while Scarlet Lady is the villain Scarlet Queen and Chloé is the latter's minion, Antibug.
      • Marc's journal still gets torn despite them and Nathaniel getting along much better than they did in the canon episode (in the comic, the two had already met at Chloé's party in "Despair Bear"). This time it's Chloé who tears it after learning that Marc's writing and Nathaniel's drawings show herself and Scarlet Lady in a negative light.
      • Chat Noir is still turned into a coward by Reverser while Marinette as Marigold still becomes clumsy.
    • "Party Crasher":
      • Marinette doesn't try to ditch tree-planting with her friends to spend time with Adrien at the party. However, she ends up disguising herself as "Marino" and sneaking in anyway, though only because the other girls sent her inside to confront the guys for ditching and lying to them about it.
      • Master Fu still brought the rest of the Miraculous with him despite not being on the run like he was in canon. He presumably did so to avoid having to transform into Jade Turtle to give out a Miraculous again like he did in the previous episode.
    • "Frightningale":
      • Marinette still ends up risking their identity as a superhero because the music video features Marigold instead of Scarlet Lady while Chloé still attempts to join the video as the Ladybug heroine out of her own sense of pride and claim that she and Scar are friends.
      • Even though Lila and Sabrina step up to call out both Chloé and the mayor for their attempts to illegally shut down Clara's video shoot, the latter still gets akumatized. Also, Chloé still ends up turned into a statue by the akuma.
    • "Malediktator"
      • Chloé still presents to the class a video of herself and the Ladybug heroine, claiming deep friendship between them; as Chloé has the Ladybug Miraculous, the Ladybug heroine really does appear in her presentation's video here. She is still called out as a liar, however, not because the class doesn't believe it's the real Scarlet Lady, but because Scarlet Lady's claims of being the real hero and cleaning up after Marigold and Chat Noir are obviously bogus.
    • Someone still objects to the whole school celebrating that Chloé is leaving. It's not Adrien, though, as he already wised up and ended his friendship with her. Instead, Zoé tries to stick up for her half-sister, not knowing how horrible a bully Chloé is.
    • "Style Queen":
      • One of Audrey's daughters still convinces Style Queen to take her on as an assistant despite Chloé being turned into a statue; instead, the role is taken up by Zoé, who hopes that her suggestion of using Adrien and Chloé to lure out Gabriel and Scarlet Lady, respectively, will alert Marigold about the akuma.
      • Even though Marigold's Bee Balm reverses Adrien's transformation into a statue, Chat Noir still misses out on the fight with Style Queen because Adrien doesn't get a chance to hide and transform.
      • A minor Played for Laughs example: even though the elevator in the Eiffel Tower is working just fine in this AU (in the show, it was broken during the events of the episode), Chloé and Audrey still decide to take the stairs.
    • "Queen Wasp":
      • Chloé still reveals her identity in an attempt to impress her mother, only it's as Scarlet Lady rather than Queen Bee.
      • Even though she doesn't almost cause a train accident so she can show off her heroics, Chloé still gets upset enough to be akumatized when she realizes that no one likes Scarlet Lady. She also still becomes Queen Wasp because of her grudge against Marigold being considered better than her.
    • "Catalyst"
      • A downplayed example; Hawkmoth was still planning to akumatize Lila as part of his plan - despite her becoming a better person than she was in canon - since she still hated the Ladybug hero, but because she's in such a good mood over Scarlet Lady losing her Miraculous, he has to settle for having Nathalie carry out the first steps instead.
      • The plan itself is pretty much the same as in canon, with her Akuma target creating an illusion of two of the heroes fighting with one of them Akumatized and killing the other with Cataclysm, only here Chat Noir is the Akuma rather than having his power turned against him.
      • Zoé gets to inherit the role of the Bee hero, from Marigold rather than Queen Bee.
    • "Hawkmoth"
  • In-Universe Catharsis: In "Desperada," Adrien as Aspik takes advantage of the Second Chance ability to watch Scarlet Lady get zapped by the villain over and over again and even tells her at one point that he is really Chat Noir just to see the look on her face (as she knows Aspik's secret identity).
  • Incoming Ham: Chloé sometimes does this, most notably in "Vanisher" when she returns to school after having spent most of the previous day being invisible and inaudible and in "Riposte" when she barges in on D'Argencourt's fencing tryouts.
Chloé: Hello, everyone! The darling of Paris has arrived!
  • Instantly Proven Wrong:
    • Chloé claims to Marinette that her gift of cookies and coffee will ruin Adrien's diet and that he won't take them from her. Adrien promptly takes the coffee from her, then gets down on one knee like he's going to propose to her.
    • Tikki says to Plagg, "I for one have total faith in Pollen to keep a low profile." A moment later, Pollen shocks them by flying into Chloé's purse in the middle of class. "Greetings, noble Kwami of Creation and Destruction!"
  • Insult Backfire: Multiple instances in "Dark Cupid":
    • After being hit by the titular akuma, Rose angrily declares that she's sickened by how tall and gorgeous Juleka is. Juleka wonders if she's supposed to be insulted.
    • Downplayed when Dark Cupid shoots Alya. Marinette is only mildly bothered by the insults Alya subsequently makes and lets them slide simply because Alya looks good in the black lipstick she got from being possessed.
    • A corrupted Marigold asks, "How do you like that?" while attacking Chat Noir. Because her attack missed him and just destroyed Chloé's framed poster of Adrien, which he found to be extremely creepy, Chat Noir smiles and happily replies, "I like that very much, thanks," prompting Marigold to swear in response. He then lampshades how bad Marigold is at being mean when they say his kindness and friendliness is insufferable.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • "Rogercop" has Plagg discover that Chloé is Scarlet Lady.
    • In "Reflekta," Marinette (as the cat hero Maotif) gives Chat Noir a clue to her true identity; he gets it, though Scarlet Lady doesn't. The author comments that Marinette feels free to do this because she knows the hero identity is a one-shot. Later on, Juleka and Scarlet Lady also find out, and Marinette doesn't mind if Alya is told.
    • "Volpina" ends with Adrien meeting Master Fu. In the following episode, he finds out that Scarlet Lady wasn't meant to have the Ladybug Miraculous.
    • Master Fu learns about Marinette's stint as Maotif in "Kung Food."
    • Adrien meets Tikki in "Vanisher," resulting in the Kwami learning Chat Noir's secret identity.
    • In "Syren," Marinette also meets Master Fu.
    • Two major ones in "Despair Bear":
      • Played With when Scarlet Lady asserts that Chloé is her "best friend." While Chloé had repeatedly claimed as much before, she generally wasn't believed; Scarlet Lady making the same claim means that she's finally believed, despite it being the same source behind the mask.
      • A straighter example is when all of the guests at Chloé's party get to see Scarlet Lady's "fighting style" up close and personally, witnessing her ordering her "sidekicks" around and forcing them to do all the work.
    • As Koki Marina, Alya learns in "Anansi" that Scarlet Lady is Locked Out of the Loop when it comes to where the other Miraculous are hidden. They also sees firsthand how lazy the Ladybug heroine is.
    • A bunch of these in "Troublemaker":
      • Penny gushes that Jagged always pays his child support on time, accidentally revealing that her employer has children.
      • Adrien sees Marinette's countless Chat Noir photos broadcast on live TV, confirming her crush on his alter ego. He's naturally ecstatic at the discovery.
      • Subverted and Played for Laughs with Hawkmoth's reaction to Marinette's crush on Chat Noir: the villain dramatically gasps… before immediately wondering why he did that when he already knew.
    • In "Desperada":
      • Marinette explains to Adrien how Luka confessed his feelings to her during the Silencer incident.
      • Aspik exploits Second Chance in order to reveal his other secret identity to Scarlet Lady (who knows that he's Adrien), exulting in her horrified expression before retconning it away.
    • Multiple instances of this in "Crocoduel":
      • The class finds out that Jagged Stone is Juleka and Luka's father and that the same people can be akumatized again, although Rose points out that it's already happened loads of times to a certain florist.
      • Luka and Juleka also realize each other's respective secret identities while transformed into Viperion and Purple Tigress, respectively.
    • "Robostus" has Hawkmoth tell Markov about how the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculous can be combined to make a wish; Markov subsequently reveals this while explaining his motivations to the heroes, and Chat Noir and Marigold consult Master Fu to get all the details he's willing to share with them afterwards.
    • In "Prime Queen":
      • Nadja reveals the existence of the Chat Gold ship to Paris's heroes.
      • Marinette/Marigold several major revelations: they learn about how they and Chat Noir kissed under the influence of Dark Cupid's spell in the worst possible way, that Chat Noir is in love with Marinette, and that Chat Noir is directly acquainted with Marinette in his civilian life, to the point he sees her everyday.
      • Chat Noir finally discovers that Marigold has feelings for him.
      • The general public becomes aware of Scarlet Lady's indifference to civilian casualties when her reactions to the kidnappings of Lila and Alya are televised. As one commenter on the Ladyblog puts it, "Scarlet Lady was... gonna let you experience the trauma of drowning."
    • Prior to "Sandboy," Chloé kept her concerns about what might happen after Hawkmoth's defeat to herself. But when Tikki reveals she was searching for the supervillain, Chloé snaps at her Kwami that she doesn't want to find him because defeating with Hawkmoth would mean she wouldn't get to be Scarlet Lady anymore. Tikki is decidedly unimpressed.
    • At the end of "Party Crasher," Master Fu finally reveals to Marinette that she was his original choice for the Ladybug Miraculous. He is surprised he hadn't already told her.
    • Two major ones in "Style Queen," a Wham Episode:
      • Marinette finally learns that Pollen knows Scarlet Lady and Chat Noir's secret identities.
      • After nearly an entire season of both of them suspecting the other's Secret Identity, Adrien and Marinette confirm they are Chat Noir and Marigold, respectively, to each other.
    • In Queen Wasp:
      • Chloé outs herself as Scarlet Lady on television and right in front of Adrien and Marinette.
      • Scarlet Lady belatedly learns that Alya wrote an exposé about her.
  • In-Universe Factoid Failure:
    • As in canon, the whole plot of "Lady Wifi" hinges on Alya's failure to remember just who was captured by Stoneheart during Scarlet Lady's debut, though the real Ladybug-holder and her false lead are swapped in this continuity.
    • Jalil does not have the impressive understanding of Egyptology that he believes himself to have. His sister is immediately able to peg him as the latest akuma victim based off of his odd interpretation of Thoth.
Alix: [with a long-suffering sigh] Only he would get the god of writing and magic so wrong.
    • Officer Raincomprix just accepts his firing at the hands of Mayor Bourgeois in "Rogercop" while Sabrina spirals into a Heroic BSoD over it. At the end of the episode, Roger completely forgives the Bourgeoises and is ecstatic after the mayor gives him his job back with a promotion. Sometime later, though, Sabrina and Roger look into things and learn that the mayor doesn't actually have the authority to fire Roger (meaning he presumably never got his promised promotion, either).
    • Scarlet Lady still thinks Alya looks up to her in "Queen Wasp" and offers an interview, not knowing that Alya had already published an exposé on her blog about how much of a Nominal Heroine Scarlet is. When she does find out, she tries to dismiss the piece as defamation, hinting she doesn't know that defamation only applies to false statements.
  • Ironic Echo: At the beginning of "Pixelator," the class is set to intern for a day at Le Grand Paris. When Adrien is assigned to the front desk with Chloé, he asks Alya if she wants to trade, and she responds, "Not on your life." Chloé then gets Alya assigned to go through the trash in the dumpster; Alya asks Adrien if he wants to trade, and he responds, "Not on your life," complete with the same body language she used earlier.
  • Ironic Nursery Tune: Stormy Weather creepily sings the old "It's raining, it's pouring" rhyme when she goes to attack Alec in the studio.
  • Irony: In "Guitar Villain," Chloé invites Adrien over and elaborates a backup plan in case his father forbids him from accepting her invitation, oblivious to the fact Adrien's father is forcing him to accept her invitation.
  • It's All About Me: Chloé as a superhero in spades. She's more concerned about looking good than she is about taking care of the akuma problem, then takes all the credit for stopping the akumas when Chat Noir and Marinette (later as Marigold) are usually the ones who do all the work.
  • It's All My Fault:
    • Sabrina blames herself for Marinette being caught in her place in "Horrificator."
    • Chris blames himself for Ella and Etta not getting to go to the fair since they got in trouble after he noticed that something happened to the juice and that the TV was acting weird.
    • Bustier blames herself for falling under Hawkmoth's sway. Marigold reassures her that it's not a failure on her part and that the only one to blame is Hawkmoth.
    • Marinette feels responsible for causing Zombizou, whom Bustier was akumatized into after Marinette gave her teacher a scathing "The Reason You Suck" Speech. Her classmates don't hold it against her because she had every right to lash at Bustier for being Chloé's enabler and some of those classmates have their own grievances against Bustier.

  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • Chloé occasionally makes legitimate arguments despite being an unrepentant bully who only cares about herself and refuses to accept the consequences of her actions:
      • Kim ends up in the principal's office with Chloé as she tries to get Alya in trouble for going through Marinette's locker. He finds himself agreeing with the bully to an extent, chiding, "Not cool, Alya," though he doesn't agree with Chloé getting Alya suspended over it.
      • After Gamer is dealt with, Scarlet Lady cheerfully "compliments" Max on how he only targeted Marinette and left her Adrien alone. This seems to drive home for him just how unfair and quite probably sexist his behavior was.
      • Upon seeing Adrien read the Grimoire, Lila tries to invoke a Commonality Connection with him by declaring she adores superheroes. Chloé quickly intrudes on the conversation and shuts Lila's attempt down, proclaiming to also love superheroes and pointing out that it's a trait most people share.

      • After Scarlet Lady assaults and humiliates Lila in front of the whole class for having the gall to lie that they are friends (and trying to use said lie to get closer to Adrien), she "defends" herself by telling everybody that letting Lila spread those lies would lead to her getting targeted by Hawkmoth. Alya (who is more than a little disturbed by what she saw the heroine of Paris do) warily admits that she has a point.
      • Chloé declares Adrien the winner in his bout against Kagami simply because of her crush on him. However, Kagami had in fact made various illegal moves in the bout, so there was truth to Chloé's call, even if she clearly isn't aware of it. Not only that, Word of God states that Adrien was in fact the winner.
      • Scarlet Lady gives a for once deserved What the Hell, Hero? to Marigold for causing Adrien to get hurt due to not paying attention to their surroundings. The Bee heroine immediately apologizes to Adrien for this.
      • Kitty Section and Anarka's sound equipment in "Captain Hardrock" is eventually revealed to be slightly over the legal decibel limit, so Chloé's noise complaint against the concert on the Liberty would have been valid... if she had waited until they actually started to play. Instead, she files it out of spite for not being allowed on board.
      • Upon arriving late to class due to an akuma fight, Marinette claims she had to take her dog to the vet after he ate all her socks. Mlle. Mendeleiev doesn't buy it, and Chloé mocks her classmate for how silly her excuse sounds.
      • Jagged Stone has Fang eat a bunch of Chloé's expensive shoes to ensure she won't be a Karma Houdini for her role in Bob Roth's attempt to plagiarize Kitty Section. Nevertheless, Chloé was still justified in hunting down Jagged Stone and angrily demanding he reimburse her for property damage, no matter how much of an Asshole Victim she is. Even Jagged seems to concede this to some degree, though he does try to get her to send the bill to Bob Roth instead.
      • Scarlet Lady insists on giving the Snake Miraculous to her crush Adrien in "Desperada." Marigold actually agrees he'd be a good candidate for a temporary hero. There's also the fact that Adrien is actually one of the two original heroes.
      • Though she was obviously just looking for an excuse for her usual laziness, Chloé wasn't entirely wrong when she points out that she wouldn't be able to do much about the two akumas in "Crocoduel" having a midair fight when she can't fly. Marigold and Chat Noir later face the same problem.
      • While Scarlet Lady abandons the interview with Nadja and calls it a waste of time for completely selfish reasons (namely that the interview isn't focusing on her), Chat Noir and Marigold join her in leaving since the questions are veering into deeply personal matters (Chat Noir and Marigold's romantic moments) that none of them are comfortable talking about. The three likewise have the same reaction when they learn about Nadja's akumatization into Prime Queen over her obsession with getting Chat Noir and Marigold to confess.
      • Scarlet Lady flatly states that it's embarrassing that Prime Queen actually fell for the heroes' Schmuck Bait. Marigold completely agrees, calling both the akuma and Hawkmoth idiots.
      • Chloé gets angry at Marc and Nathaniel in "Reverser" when she discovers that they were writing and drawing, respectively, villains based on her both as Scarlet Lady and her civilian identity. While it was very mean of her to rip Marc's notebook in half, their writing did lead to Nathaniel drawing pictures of her civilian self as a villain and posting them on the school blog without her permission, which the author admits likely counts as bullying. Later, when she gets banned from the art club for destroying someone's work, she points out that she wasn't actually at school when she did it (not that it helps).
      • Chloé is creeped out by the sight of her mother acting so Out of Character under Malediktator's influence. Zoé later echoes this sentiment and begs Malediktator to change Audrey back to her usual Jerkass self.
      • A non-verbal example when Scarlet Lady mentally notes that, despite Marigold dismissing violent methods like using a gun as being beneath her and the other heroes, they've resorted to violence several times in the past to defeat akumas.
    • Mayor Bourgeois is a textbook Sleazy Politician, but he does sometimes make valid points:
      • Him telling Nino to get out of his office at the end of "Horrificator" after seeing the latter's entry into the film festival might've been a bit harsh. However, given the movie was unedited and didn't have characters, a plot, or a story, his reaction wasn't entirely unjustified. Even Nino later concedes his film was pretty bad.
      • According to Nadja, there are accusations that Armand D'Argencourt is "an outdated medieval fossil with no grasp of the 21st century," which are implied to have originated from André Bourgeois's campaign. Given D'Argencourt responds with the archaic expression "Palsembleu" and displays Moral Myopia regarding his admiration of his ancestor, the tyrannical Black Knight, the claims might not be entirely unfounded.
      • Though Mayor Bourgeois only tries to shut down the rink in "Frozer" because Chloé told him to, he's right that just because a bunch of teens happened to show up on this particular day, doesn't mean the rink is no longer suffering from chronic low attendance, which is vindicated when Philippe fails to get any of the teens to sign up for skating lessons. Then, after the rink manager's attempts to find a new student result in Marinette getting hurt, the mayor rightfully scolds him for trying to force the teens to sign up when they've all made it clear they aren't interested. Philippe reluctantly agrees.
    • Lila is prone to this as well, usually when it comes to her dislike of Scarlet Lady:
      • Though she lied about being best friends with Scarlet Lady, stole Adrien's book to manipulate him, and then disparaged her alleged "best friend" Scarlet, her subsequent animosity towards the Ladybug heroine is completely justified given Scarlet Lady responded by throwing Lila into a fountain in the middle of winter.
      • Even after her Heel–Face Turn, she still possesses a mean streak, but she saves it for those who deserve it, and her open hatred of the Ladybug heroine is spot on for anyone who knows what Scarlet Lady is really like.
      • Lila calls in on Nadja's interview with the heroes in "Prime Queen" just to mock Scarlet Lady on TV and calls the heroine "the worst"; Chat Noir and Marigold's expressions show they completely agree, even if they can't outright admit it. Moreover, Lila correctly deduces that the two's diplomatic answers are just nice ways of saying they put up with Scarlet Lady because they have to, which she gleefully announces on TV.
    • It was rather mean of Plagg to mess with Adrien in "Lady Wifi" about the possibility of Alya's theory that Marinette is Scarlet Lady due to how much stress the Ladybug heroine has caused Adrien. Nevertheless, Plagg is right that Adrien shouldn't need to be told that Marinette can't possibly be Scarlet since he saved her in the Stoneheart incident only three weeks ago.
    • In "Mr. Pigeon," while he could have done it in a less stringent way, Officer Raincomprix is right in that feeding birds in a park is a potential hazard for public health and safety. Plus, it's made clear that this is not the first time he's caught M. Ramier doing it and that Officer Raincomprix is simply angry that he keeps doing it despite having been repeatedly warned.
    • Even though it was a downgrade from his original threat of pulling Adrien out of school, Gabriel grounding his son is still understandable as Adrien did steal from him. Even Nino, who hates Gabriel, concedes Adrien's punishment isn't completely unjustified.
    • While she went about it rather harshly, Mlle. Mendeleiev is right to scold Nathaniel in "Evillustrator" for drawing in her class instead of paying attention to the lecture, especially since this isn't the first time it's happened.
    • It's a Loony Fan like Vincent (for Jagged Stone) and a Stalker with a Crush like Scarlet Lady that actually make Gabriel seem reasonable for trying to keep Adrien away from the public. Granted, he's still an asshole, but since creeps like the two exist in Real Life, Gabriel is just being an overzealous Papa Wolf.
    • Though Mlle. Mendeleiev tells Rose off in a rather brusque manner in "Princess Fragrance," the teacher is right that Rose shouldn't be using her phone in the middle of class and that Rose's perfume could react with the experiments they're carrying out in the laboratory in unwelcome ways.
    • After Prime Queen is dealt with, Alya notes that while Nadja was being incredibly invasive, she wasn't wrong about people being interested in what sort of "romantic connections" the heroes might have, as her blog is filled with viewers discussing it too. On the other hand, they're also talking about Alya nearly drowning and Scarlet Lady's willingness to let her die.
    • Audrey hits the nail on the head when she dismisses Chloé's insistence of being exceptional, pointing out that her daughter hasn't achieved anything noteworthy on her own and instead got herself banned from contests featuring the Gabriel brand, lost her class presidency, and got kicked off the judging panel for ''World's Greatest Chef" after being Caught on Tape sabotaging a contestant.
  • "Just Joking" Justification: When confronted by Guitar Villain about calling Jagged Stone "Ragged Stone," XY insists he was joking.
