Recap / The Silverscale Arena S 1 E 5 April 2021

Go To

"April may be a hellish month for those in College, but hey! At least our fighters are trying to keep it together! New turns, tricks, and a plan to escape rather than fight! That being said, those with seemingly no history behind them are meant to be feared here..."

The fifth episode, written in April of 2021. The teams are as follows...

-Team 1 (Baskerra Hellmane): Ed, Warbeast, Jenna, and a Xeno.

-Team 12 (Zitara Jah Getash): Zitara Jah Getash (OC), Metal Gear RAY, Paige, and Dawn (EvilArt OC).

  • Accidental Hero:
    • Shows up quite a lot, with various combatants getting out of sticky situations because another one was going for the attacker.
    • A different example occurs when Catra is sneaking up on Po's team in their sleep during Night 2, ready to kill them pragmatically... only to be crushed by a falling tree, chopped by Phooey in the interest of finding firewood. More like Accidental Murder, but honestly. Would we expect anything less of him?
  • Ambushing Enemy: Right as Namah is trying to finish off the Grabber, a Tylosaurus emerges from the nearby lake, assisting in tearing the Dreamkeeper apart.
  • Autobots, Rock Out!: For when Heavy gets a second-wind against Draka, "Becoming the Bull" by Atreyu plays.
  • Beam-O-War: Draka and Heavy engage in one, resulting in the parking lot being reduced to fiery nothing after it blows up in their faces.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: Draka doesn't say much throughout the first half of the story, but he winds up becoming the Final Boss in the end.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: A more obscure example, as a giant Scabies Mite attacks Ozzy Osbourne, tearing into his neck and EATING HIM FROM THE INSIDE. Those watching are justifiably creeped out.
  • Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: A Sasquatch shows up to nearly rape Hecate, but a backhanded thwip of her whip beheads it.
  • Birds of a Feather: Part of the reason Tootsie is a huge fan of The Engineer, claiming she's his 'biggest fan'. He's flattered.
  • Body of Bodies: INTEC Roaches (from the 80s horror movie "The Nest") menace Kotoro, using the bodies of Gail, Subject Delta, and the Xeno in a gory display. They even make good use of Delta's drill. Another swarm of them shows up to menace Dawn, this time utilizing the corpse of a Cock Demon, as well as some of Medusa's parts.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: Heavy tries to think of sexy thoughts when first under aphrodisiac, like sandwiches, redheads, Medic, and redhead sandwich medic.
  • Call-Back: Several to previous winners, considering those from their franchises show up here, like Po and Namah/Vi.
    • Another example is Po having to deal with stairs again near the very end.
  • Came Back Strong: Draka pulls of a Thanatos Gambit on himself this way, allowing himself to be messed up by Metal Gear RAY and Rimuru at some points later on to fully amplify his Healing Factor. Not that it isn't painful, each time.
    • Taken to the limit with the Fatalis' Nova Burst, which nearly skeletonizes him.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: Robotboy and Vexon get into a stash of alcohol. Makes sense for the small robot, but the anthro Arbok...
    "Why am I Polka-Dots?"
  • Car Fu: Vi kills the Xeno this way, pinning the already injured beast against a tree with a random car.
  • Catch and Return: Kotoro manages to do this with Braniac's energy blasts, surprising the alien.
    • An even more awesome one occurs during the Replenishment, when Heavy grabs one of the MANY missiles fired by Metal Gear RAY and throws it right at the attacking Vexon, sending her into the maw of the machine and destroying both.
    • Po somehow tops this by catching one of the Fatalis' fireballs and flinging it back with some extra chi, destroying its wing.
  • Cosmic Keystone: The Time and Power Stones make an appearance, with the former being abused by Audrey 2 for either power or funsies. The Power Stone is swallowed by Draka to give himself a power-boost.
  • Defiant to the End: Even after being stabbed through the chest by Draka, Dawn is able to tell him 'Screw you'.
  • Desperation Attack: Draka has two as the fight goes south for him. He first unleashes his Ender Knives and Absolute Cleansing Beam all over the place, hoping in vain to hit Heavy. Later, he propels himself at the airborne foe, only to be utterly trounced for his troubles.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: Right out the starting gate, Ernesti is shot by the Doomguy when the doors open, killing him instantly. Kotoro even says "First Blood!". Subject Delta is also felled, being reduced to Ludicrous Gibs by a grenade thrown by General Scales, though it manages to heavily injure the Xeno. It gets worse! Ed literally dies in the first paragraph of Day 1, glitching through the floor!
  • Eaten Alive:
    • The Grabber subjects Vex to this, wrapping its tentacles around her dick before propelling itself forward and CRUNCHING its jaws around her head.
    • Gorgonic Medusa Tyrant is killed by the first Cock Demon, swallowed up and mind broken by the musk before being reduced to semen fertilizer for the grass. Another Cock Demon, red in color, devours Tyr (with Jumpy helping her on her way).
  • Eating the Enemy: Scales does this to Gail after shanking her from behind, messily gorging into her body.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Draka's first scene involves him silently biding his time in his cell. His first action in the Bloodbath is to use his tail to almost strangle Gail before having to escape from Vex's flames, faking his death.
  • Everything Sounds Sexier in French: Or, in this case to Dawn, 'Everything Sounds Sexier in Russian'.
  • Fantastic Racism: Briefly by Doomguy towards Namah, considering she looks like a demon. Thankfully, he doesn't follow through on anything bad.
  • Fastball Special: One of Dawn's attacks against the Fatalis is for Po to throw her at its head, disorienting the beast as she mounts it.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Since Draka's healing factor is too strong, Heavy just throws the mangled head of the villain into he floating Dranei House, leaving him trapped as a wall decoration forever...until he returns in the Season 1 finale.
  • Foreign-Language Tirade: Heavy goes into one whenever he's embarrassed, especially after he accidentally ejaculates over Dawn's breasts.
  • Forever War: Draka's Evil Plan is to get a wish to create this, ensuring he still keeps his purpose of battle.
  • Forced Transformation: Tootsie utilizes a ray gun tag turns people into unintelligent monkeys to thin out the population. Jumpy is the first victim. Ironically, the gun is stolen by Audrey II later on and utilized on her to finish her off.
    • Of course, this comes back full circle when the last of the ammo is used against her by Heavy, turning her into a Chia-Pet version of a Macaque.
    • "RETURN TO MONKEH!"
  • Fright Deathtrap: Engineer meets his end when he goes into the woods and is scared to literal death by not Slenderman, but Evil Otto.
  • Gentle Giant: This side of Heavy comes up when he either hangs with Dawn or mends a bird's damaged wings.
  • Giant Spider: A Mother Longlegs shows up in the fic, impaling Ixia through her mouth before being easily felled by the RAY. However, a second one attacks, causing RAY to fire a beam onto both the monster and Zitara, vaporizing them both.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be:
    • Brainiac gets a non-fatal version of this (as he can repair himself with ease) when FLYING GORILLA for the FLYING GORILLA APP flies through his lower body.
    • A fatal variant occurs when Draka stabs Dawn with his tail from the back and slices her vertically.
  • Heroic Second Wind: After Draka demolishes him at first, Heavy manages to turn the tide and destroy his foe along with the K-Mart.
  • "Hey, You!" Haymaker: During the final battle, Heavy uses his nostril steam to hide himself, before poking Draka's shoulder and delivering a punch that sends him flying across the K-Mart.
  • High-Voltage Death: Scales suffer this at Kotoro's hands-er, legs, when she finds a taser and uses it on him. For bonus points, she amplifies the volts with the power she stole from Braniac.
  • Hollywood Acid: Ruka kill Kotoro with a bucket of this, blasting her abyssal fire near the spider to cause the bucket to fall onto her after making the spider think she missed.
  • Horde of Alien Locusts: Well, mutant locusts, but they serve to annoy Heavy and Audrey II at different points, though they manage to devour Rimuru.
  • I Let Gwen Stacy Die: Heavy has this reaction after burying what's left of Dawn, even crying a few tears, before focusing on revenge.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Robotboy's chest is caved in by one of Audrey II's tentacles.
  • Interspecies Romance: One develops between Heavy (a human-turned-Mechanical Bull Monster) and Dawn (Anthro Sheepdog).
  • Kick Them While They're Down:
    • Zitara demonstrates this by having the Metal Gear RAY destroy both Tai Lung and Kuromaru with a beam attack while they're downed/injured by destroyed Action 52 copies.
    • Draka performs this when, after delivering a horrible beatdown to Heavy, he smashes Sasha in half just to rub it in.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: A few people, but notably Po, whom is stabbed through the mouth while already having to deal with Swampus poison. Blame Draka for both.
  • Literal Maneater: Braniac is felled by the Vampire Beast, the thing having shape-shifted into a female Coluan before going in for the kill.
  • Literally Shattered Lives: Once the Warbeast is frozen by a pipe Paige exposed, she kicks at the mech, shattering him into pieces.
    • Cocytus dies this with after being infected with the Cheese Touch, shattering upon the ground after fainting.
  • Man on Fire: Po gets covered in the Fatalis' flames at some point, though he manages to survive.
  • Mercy Kill: Heavy gives this to Paige when she transforms into a mindless Spitbug mutant. Dawn later does this to Robotboy after he's corrupted by Audrey II, using a tree branch to finish him off.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Draka delivers a brutal one to Heavy, while also telling him of his backstory. Of course, Heavy returns the favor after getting a Heroic Second Wind.
  • Off with His Head!:
    • Vexon manages to get the drop on the Madolorian and chomp him around the neck, causing his helmet to fall off...with the head still in it.
    • Happens to Ruka as well, a mace being flung at her head while she's flying.
  • Ominous Visual Glitch: One of these kills Ed, as he glitches through the floor at the start of the match proper.
  • One-Hit Polykill:
    • Tai Lung and Kuromaru are both destroyed by Metal Gear RAY when he fires one singular beam where they are downed.
    • An accidental one occurs when Zitara and a Mother Longlegs are both vaporized by RAY, whom was just trying to kill the monster.
  • Orcus on His Throne: A justified example. Draka spends the majority of the Arena just sitting around, but this works in his favor. By the time he joins the fray, he's only got a few combatants to deal with, as well as a few power boosts he happened to get.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: The Fatalis is the Arena event that Heavy, Dawn, Draka, and Po face off against. Nobody dies, surprisingly, even though the battle is hard-fought, including all two phases.
  • Our Minotaurs Are Different: The more Minotaur milk Heavy drinks, the more he become a sharp-toothed minotaur monster. Goes even further when a wandering Spark turns him into an organic Bull Mecha.
  • Pre Ass Kicking One Liner: Heavy's "We fight like men" quote before fighting Draka.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: Right before Heavy flings Draka into the Dranei House...
Draka: "THIS IS NOT A WARRIOR'S FATE!".
Heavy Weapons guy: "No. It is a MURDERER’S FATE. До свидания."
  • Power Creep, Power Seep: Made explicit with what happens to Team 6. It winds up costing them all. Lampshaded by Rimuru, whom bemoans the situation after being reduced back to his old slime form.
  • Rapid Aging: Audrey II gains a positive version of this through the Time Stone, which increases her growth to a great degree.
  • Read the Fine Print: Paige bemoans that she should have done this before getting involved with Zitara.
  • Sex for Solace: Heavy and Dawn do this to get the aphrodisiac out of them, as well as remove their stress at the situation. They develop further affection for each-other that way.
  • Scary Scarecrows: The ones from Episode 3 show up, but are mowed down by Heavy and Namah. One of them is even carrying Scarlet's sword.
  • Ship Tease:
    • Heavy and Medic are implied to also be a thing here, though a later Ask Blog would joss that.
    • Also, Starfire and Raven, expanding on last episodes thoughts on the matter.
  • Sleep Cute: Heavy certainly thinks Dawn is even more adorable as she sleeps (like Sasha!).
  • Shout-Out: When Zitara is wondering where Paige is, the narration mentions how if Zitara had a watch, she would look at it VERY condescendingly.
  • Squashed Flat: General Scales by the RAY near the end of Day 2, but it's in the form of Amusing Injuries this time, allowing him to be scraped off and slink away.
  • Take That!: The presence of the Xeno even comes with a jab at its film's director, Uwe Boll. The quick way its taken out is possibly another jab.
    • Hong Kong Phooey is called 'vaguely racist' by the narration.
    • Among Us memes are also mocked, to the point where Tootsie has to fend off a bunch of them.
    • A pile of copies of Bubsy 3D are found by Rukia and dismissed as useless. They also are quite explosive...
  • Take That Us: Tootsie considers the circumstances of the place and states that it might have been made by "...a massive pervert."
  • Tempting Fate: While Gail is still dealing with the burns on her body, she mentions that at least she still has a good fire. That's when General Scales shanks her and [[Off with His Head! tears her head off.
  • Threatening Shark: A swarm of Sharkopaths swarm the Grabber in the open ocean, ripping into the beast's body and dragging her down.
  • Throwing Your Sword Always Works: Tyr throws her hammer randomly at one point, but it accurately takes the head off of Hecate.
  • Torso with a View: The Fatalis' fate after Draka runs him through with a Dragon Lightning Flash, bursting a hole through its body and causing it to fall into the abyss of the ruins below.
  • Touch of Death: The Cheese Touch comes in play, utilized successfully by the Mandolorian against Cocytus.
  • Transformation Horror: Played for Laughs, as Heavy drinks several potions that wind up making him more bull-like, starting with a large pair of horns. "HEAVY IS COW!"
  • Unstoppable Rage: Po accidentally comes across the Berserk Power-Up from DOOM, causing him to become empowered at the cost of his sanity. In this temporary start, he crushes Slenderman's head between his jaws and then delivering a fiery shockwave that kills Martian Manhunter and Jenna. He then throws Audrey II into the distance, removing her Time Stone.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Draka suffers a big one as things go south for him, raging that Heavy's even coming close to beating him. Not that he was sane to begin with, as even winning was causing serious Sanity Slippage.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot:
    • Gannetwhales show up in this episode, utilizing projectile vomiting to ward off Dawn and Gail during their fight. One such blast nails Gail in the chest, singing it and causing her to flee.
    • Slenderman gets a taste of this later on when he tries to kill Phooey, whom happens to be near the beasts.
  • We ARE Struggling Together: Several teams aren't that amicable and many dissolve to go out on their own, but the most discordant teams from the start are Team 1 and Team 7.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Ozzy manages to ambush Engineer's team, braining him with a tree branch and going on a furious rant about being trapped here. Tootsie lampshades that he's buying time for 'the right moment', which puts the mad rock star on suspicion that she's onto something...and realizes too late he's been left wide open for a giant Scabies Mite to attack him.
  • Wrecked Weapon:
    • Black Cat's claws shatter against Ixia's hide, causing her to have a mini-Oh, Crap! moment before her defeat.
    • A more dramatic variant occurs when Sasha, Heavy's minigun, is broken by Draka out of spite. It's repaired by the end, though.

Winner: Heavy Weapons Guy (Namah Calah's pick)
