Crossovers
  • An Impractical Guide to Godhood: Hera's status as the goddess of marriage causes her to behave unpleasantly toward gods and goddesses who conceive demigods, making her very unpopular. Consequently, after Perseus engineers her downfall, he and his companions are showered with gifts by all of Hera's many enemies.
  • Child of the Storm: The Dursleys are hated by nearly everyone in the story; Harry and his guardians and friends and family all hate them for their horrible treatment of Harry growing up; their crimes are reported to all of England, gaining the contempt of the whole public. Their neighbors and friends all abandoned them. Everyone in Harry's circle of friends and family hates them, even villains and gods hate them; it gets to the point where Jesus Christ himself believes that the Dursleys are beyond redemption.
  • Adam Taurus in Hunters of Justice is universally despised by the survivors of Vale. Rather than helping in the fight against Brainiac's invasion of Remnant, he chose to continue his terroristic crusade against humanity. This prompted many of his fellow White Fang members to defect and join the defense forces. Even after Vale is bottled, he continues to terrorize the survivors by stealing supplies and killing anyone he doesn't like. It's enough that both the forces of Beacon and Torchwick's faction want him dead.
  • Code Prime: Absolutely nobody can stand Airachnid. She is the cruelest and sadistic of the Decepticons, enjoys committing massacres just for fun, torments Arcee, Kallen, Suzaku, and Euphemia, among other characters will backstab anyone just to make herself look good. Even Megatron and Steeljaw barely tolerate her, though they do see her as useful. Unlike most of the other Decepticons, she has no redeeming qualities, and is hated both in-universe and out of universe.
  • The Infinite Loops: All MLEs and infamous malicious non-loopers such as Umbridge have this. Gendo Ikari was one such non-looper until, against all rhyme and reason (which, in the Loops, means Billy), he started looping. Since Evangelion is one of the seven oldest looping universes, almost every looper has had the... pleasure of meeting his baseline self, and none of them are happy to see him looping. Thus, Gendo Ikari finds himself at the mercy of an entire multiverse that more or less hates his guts, and the recipient of yet even more abuse, only except this time he remembers it.
  • Infinity Train: Blossoming Trail:
    • Over the past decade or so, The Apex have been terrorizing the denizens of the Train wherever they went, thanks to Grace's misguided belief that the Train is meant to be a personal playground for its passengers rather than meant for self-improvement. This led to them wrecking cars and doing horrible things to denizens, including outright torture and murder, all for the sake for raising their numbers up. By the time Voyage of Wisteria begins, the remnants of the Apex have become easy pickings for disgruntled denizens, with Charlie offering sanctuary at the Hazbin Car.
    • Played With through Chloe Cerise, who believes this was always the case back home. Her classmates constantly bullied her while most of her teachers turned a blind eye; her father neglected her in favor of focusing on his research; even her Childhood Friend Goh seemed more interested in pursuing Mew than spending time with her. All of this left her convinced that everyone spurned and despised her for "not fitting in" and not liking pokémon. Once she boards the Train, however, it becomes clear that her family and Goh really do care about her and desperately want her back. Unfortunately, Chloe believes this to be "too little too late", informing her younger brother Parker that even IF she returns, she'll board the Train again if the residents of Vermillion City don't do enough work to earn her forgiveness. This sparks off the Unown Incident; once her involvement is revealed, public opinion turns HEAVILY against Chloe, with her disappointed mother declaring that she has nobody to blame for this other than herself for her spoiled and spiteful behavior.
    • Parker Cerise also ends up this way after the Unown Incident; while his family still loves him, they're also angry and disappointed by how he spearheaded the whole disaster. Not even Ash wants to see him again.
  • Konosuba: The Adventures of Spider-Ham: Everyone in the city of Axel utterly despises Paul and will jeer at him the first chance they get. His soon-to-be father-in-law, Kingpig is only tolerating him for his daughter's sake but promises to make Paul's life Hell if the man ever makes Mary Jane Piglet cry.
  • In The Odds, all of District Eight erupts in cheers when Cyrus Vanch is reaped for the Hunger Games.
  • Pokémon: Harmony and Chaos: Anyone who knows Lightning Blitz quickly grows to hate him for his bad attitude and disrespect for everyone. Flash Sentry and his friends all agree his Might Makes Right mentality and disdain for weak Pokémon is toxic to anyone who follows it, and in a setting where Defeat Means Friendship is normally in effect, Lightning noticeably earns no friends at all due to his Unsportsmanlike Gloating. He also noticeably gets the smallest cheers from the crowds whenever he enters a tournament, with the crowd even cheering for Pinkie after he beat her at one point. Pretty much the only person who knows him personally and doesn't outright hate him is his grandfather, Grand Hoof. But even he dislikes the path Lightning has gone down and outright admits Lightning is most likely Beyond Redemption at this point.

Arrowverse

  • moral of the story (Nyame): Oliver becomes the most hated man in Starling City after some tabloids get a hold of Laurel's suicide note and publish it, revealing he is the one who gave her the final push to go through with it. Not even his friends and family are willing to give him any leeway after that, with several of them making it blatantly clear how much they disapprove of his actions.
  • What It Takes: At the end of the story, Quentin. He's kicked off the force, Laurel and Sara have cut him from their lives permanently, their friends hate him too, and the rest of the world holds him in contempt for his complicity in Darhk's plans. The only person who still has any regard for him is Dinah, and that's only because she is more interested in the idea of reuniting their family than him as a person. To no one's surprise, he ends up Dying Alone and having a Lonely Funeral to boot.

Godzilla

Harry Potter

  • Trolling the Toad: Even the Aurors who were sent to investigate the allegations of child abuse at Hogwarts, who were all specifically selected for their impartiality, find themselves hating Umbridge so much that they all secretly hope they can find something to charge her with.
  • Wish Carefully takes place in a universe where the Death Eaters got what they thought they wanted when Voldemort conquered Wizarding Britain, only to find themselves suffering under his rule. By the time Lucius is an old man, Voldemort is so widely despised that the Malfoys have joined a conspiracy to either overthrow Voldemort themselves or turn him over to Harry Potter for execution.

Hetalia: Axis Powers

  • In Your Father and Mine, England is thoroughly unpopular among the embodied states and Native tribes of North America for warring against them, spreading diseases and poverty, and leaving a negative impact on America and Canada's psyche. It's so bad that he genuinely fears for his life when he's invited to attend Thanksgiving with them.

Invader Zim

  • The Karma Circle: Chances On Top of Chances: When Gaz is laid up in the hospital with a stomach bug, her classmates take the opportunity to send her get-well cards expressing how much they hate her for being a vindictive, violent bully.
Card #1: We just want you to know that, despite everything you did to us, we still feel the same about you as we always did... that you should be dragged through the desert, on fire and fed to venomous scorpions.
Card #2: Saw you puke out half your body at lunchtime. Do the school a favor and puke out the other half, then we'll be rid of you completely.
Card #3: I can't tell you how sorry I was to hear you were sick. Sorry that you're not dead yet. Screw you for force-feeding me my own inhaler.

The Loud House

  • Reversal of Fortune:
    • The Louds are hated by almost everyone who finds out what they did.
    • After Rusty pulls an offensive Jamaican stunt in school in chapter 15, he is hated by everyone in school, including the Right-On-Respect members. When he returns to school in chapter 32, almost everyone in school still hates him.
    • Yves is introduced in chapter 22 and the way he always speaks and acts is why everyone hates him.

Miraculous Ladybug

  • BURN THE WITCH: Witch Hunter's magic works via More than Mind Control; anyone who gets angry at Lila upon hearing about all her numerous crimes is compelled to join her mob of angry followers, hellbent upon lynching Lila and burning her at the stake. While the murderous intentions fade after the akuma is purified, everyone in Paris still remembers what they learned, and Lila finds herself shunned by her peers and facing the consequences of her actions.
  • The Karma of Lies:
    • Hawkmoth naturally holds this status due to terrorizing Paris with his akuma. This becomes a major problem for Adrien once the villain is unmasked as none other than his own father, causing public opinion of the Agrestes to take a severe nosedive.
    • By the climax, this applies to none other than Adrien himself. Thanks to his own actions, Paris has become convinced that he served as an accomplice to his father. His classmates/former friends also despise him for leaving them in the dark about Lila, letting her bilk them out of their belongings and sabotage their dreams.
  • The Lament Series (ChaoticNeutral): One of Chloé's Fatal Flaws is her failure to understand that others don't simply resent her for being the Mayor's daughter, but for how she brazenly exploits her status and acts like a selfish, Spoiled Brat. This spurs her to make an ill-considered Wish to swap lives with Marinette, assuming that Marinette will be just as miserable and despised as she was.
  • Rate This (Trust is Hard to Come By): After an akuma's power reveals just how much Ladybug trusts everyone in Paris, Miss Bustier and most of her students find themselves regarded with suspicion and Karmic Shunning due to how low all of their numbers are. Lila has the worst of it; she ended up with a -51 over her head, along with a laundry list of warnings about her lacking moral character. By the time she finds out what the number means, her reputation is already in the toilet; all of Paris wants to know who she is and why Ladybug despises her so much.
  • Scarlet Lady has its Villain Protagonist, Chloé Bourgeois.
    • The only person in Mme. Bustier's class who actually likes Chloé is Caline Bustier herself, who refuses to punish her for any of her bullying or bratty behavior and pressures the rest of her students to include Chloé in activities outside of class. Both Adrien and Sabrina gradually distance themselves from her out of disgust, as Adrien grows sick of both her bullying and her clinginess, while Sabrina grows a spine and starts standing up to her so-called friend.
    • Luka has Hate at First Sight the moment he meets Chloé in person for the first time, as he's heard all about her from his sister Juleka.
    • Chloé as Scarlet Lady is a Zig Zagged example. She's Paris' beloved heroine... to everyone who hasn't actually met her. When she interacts personally with others as a superhero, she drives them away just as fast as her civilian identity does. As the story goes on and more of her selfish actions become public knowledge, her reputation as a superhero erodes until Scarlet Lady is just as unpopular as Chloé.

My Hero Academia

  • Dekugate: Inko has spent much of her life being despised by people who hate her just for existing, since she DARED to fall in love and have a relationship with Toshinori. Their constant harassment and Irrational Hatred of her led to her growing paranoid, struggling with second-guessing herself and an eating disorder that contributed to Izuku being born prematurely. When Izuku becomes aware of the titular online community, he finds himself struggling with the same issues.
  • Not That Kinda Fired: While we don't know what Bakugou's reputation is among the public, but everyone we see in the story hates him for his Small Name, Big Ego behavior and lack of respect for anything other than power. Even before he directly shows up, his appearance in the narrative is heralded by other heroes gossiping about how notoriously awful he is to work with, how he barely graduated from UA due to his behavioral issues, how he keeps moving from agency to agency due to those same issues, etc. No one wants to be around Bakugou, and when he's brought on to the Endeavor Agency as part of his last chance at being a hero, Burnin' prepares the rest of the staff for his arrival by preemptively telling them that he's a douchebag. The impression Bakugou makes on the rest of the agency only gets worse from there.
  • We're Not Friends Kacchan: Katsuki's complete lack of remorse over his Barbaric Bullying of Izuku turns everybody in Class 1-A against him, including his former friends Kirishima and Izuku.

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

  • The Nuptialverse: Sunset Shimmer holds this status in Through the Mirror, being a highly feared and despised bully; the only reason why anyone in her posse is willing to work with her is for the sake of using her to gain more power.

Naruto

  • Three's A Crowd combines this with a bitter Deconstruction of how Naruto was kept Locked Out of the Loop regarding his status as a jinchuuriki. In this story, he's murdered by the Akatsuki inside his own apartment, finding himself trapped as a voice inside Sakura's head afterwards. He has no idea why he was killed, and since he was so accustomed to everyone in Konoha treating him so poorly, they have no idea who, if anyone, they can trust.
  • Uchibi Sasuke: So far as the Uchiha clan were concerned, the best way to ensure that everyone "recognized their natural superiority" was by ensuring everybody else's lives sucked, as they went well out of their way to sabotage and undermine others. It's repeatedly stated that if not for those pesky things called laws, Itachi might have been elevated to sainthood for slaughtering most of his brethren.
    Shikaku: Uchiha ruin everything.

The Octonauts

The Owl House

Pokémon

  • Zorua Trainer: Pikachu's Hair-Trigger Temper and hatred of humans made him deeply unpopular during his time living at Professor Oak's lab and ranch, as all of the other pokémon found him utterly insufferable. Ash becomes his first real friend; as he mellows out over time, other pokémon start treating him better in turn.

Total Drama

  • Courtney's Crusade for Redemption: Duncan becomes this after he is arrested and blacklisted for destroying Chris's mansion. Zoey, his Only Friend in canon All Stars, angrily denounced him for doing it, and all of his other friends (DJ, Geoff, and Owen) no longer want anything to do with him.
  • Predator and Prey: All of the Peanut Gallery and many of the behind-the-scenes people hate Blaineley, to the point where they throw a huge party in celebration of her being shipped off to the competition.
  • Random Drama Series:
    • Quite literally no one, not even Chris, likes Matthew as the other villains at least have some kind of redeeming quality to them. Matthew has none being an Insufferable Genius who spouts out insults almost as much as he breathes and acts like he's entitled to the million dollars and that all the others are drooling morons who should be kissing his feet. He is also a massive Sore Loser, blaming everyone other than himself for a loss, but also gets annoyed when his team doesn't go to elimination. He gets even worse as he is repeatedly denied the million, leading to him attempting outright murder, first to the final six of Pahkitew Island and then Chris himself in hopes of just stealing the money.
    • Justin by the end of the “Pahkitew Island” story. When he’s accidentally knocked out of the helicopter by Chris and lands on the island, Chris asks if they should go back for him, everyone including Chef just laughs at the idea. They then leave him stranded on the island to fend for himself. Leaving him with the fate of being the camper to be mauled by Scuba Bear 2.0.
  • Total Drama All-Stars Rewrite:
    • It's apparent that Alejandro has become more hated than even Heather for his actions in World Tour. When Gwen is worried she'll die underground and gives messages to other contestants in the confessional, she tells Heather that she'd be willing to bury the hatchet with her, but tells Alejandro to get bent. And in the four-parter, everybody sans Heather glares at him when he appears.
    • Lightning is revealed to be this as well on the Aftermath show. He infuriates pretty much all the contestants both participating and non-participating with his stupidity and arrogance, while Lindsay outright tells him that he was "kind of annoying". Geoff and Bridgette even show him a compilation of all his fellow competitors getting annoyed by his behavior and personality. Unlike Alejandro however, he is so stupid and full of himself that he doesn't realize that everyone hates him.
    • Everyone comes to quickly despise Leonard after he makes his debut during the final Aftermath session due to everyone finding his LARPing excessively annoying. Even the nerdier contestants such as Harold, Noah, Sierra, and Sam hold a very low opinion of him and his role-playing.
  • Total Drama Omega: As a result of his team sabotage tactics during Revenge of the Island, Scott is utterly despised by the rest of Team Rookie, with only Sam willing to give him the time of day.
  • Total Shuffled Island Series:
    • Everyone in the cast hates Scarlett after the second season, including Chris and Chef because she not only cheated during the second season, she tried to kill some of them to get the prize money and extort Dakota to get more money out of her father. She becomes so disliked that she was the first person voted out during All-Stars.
    • Scott isn't too far behind her when it comes to this thanks to his sabotage strategy he attempted in Island and World Tour. By the end of the series, both the contestants and in-universe audience hates him so much that the promise of making him answer personal questions truthfully or get pelted with crabapples and thrown into an angry octopus tank nets the Aftermath the (quite large) sum of money needed to save the show almost in its entirety.
    • By the end of the "Pahkitew Island" story, everyone grows to hate Dave due to him being useless in challenges, his treatment of Mike, and overall whininess.
  • Total Drama Do Over:
    • The cast of Revenge of the Island Do Over all hate Scarlett as a result of her villainy and dark actions. So much so that they even flat out refuse to be her supporters in the finale.
    • The Stepbrothers Chet and Lorenzo are hated by most of the other teams, even moreseo than in canon, due to their rude and immature behaviors. Don even skips them when interviewing all the previously eliminated teams.
  • Ultimate Ridonculous Race: The Internet Critics, James and Doug, are hated by everyone because of their constant nagging about what they think was off about the show.
  • Total Drama Underdogs: Courtney is hated by so many even moreso than in the canon timeline. In the episode where she returns alongside, Eva, everyone is quick to vote her off and they express zero delight when she returns. Even the few contestants she was on somewhat good terms in the canon timeline such as Bridgette, Gwen, and Leshawna, never show any warm feelings to her at all. Whereas Chris and Chef made it clear they never gave a crap about her to begin with.
  • Total Loud Island: Much like in the canon timeline, Heather is hated by everyone in the story. The only reason she didn't get voted off earlier is because of her bribing the other contestants and just sheer dumb luck. Even Chris and Chef seem to hate her just as much as everyone else. The latter two seem to hate her just enough to the point where they’re completely fine with throwing her into shark-infested waters. At which, everyone present cheers for.
