    The Duke

The oldest son of a wealthy noble family, and the household's heir apparent. When he was 5 years old, a witch cursed the Duke to make every living thing he touches wither and die. As a result, he was banished to a remote mansion where he stayed by the time Alice became a maid in his service.

  • Accidental Hero: He ends up saving Alice and Rob from Sade's offspring just by entering the room while it was bouncing around it, leading it to crash into the Duke.
  • The Ace: While attention is not really called to it often, he is a musical prodigy, being good with any instrument, specially the piano, and composing melodies good enough to sell. He also has a tendency to pick up new skills rather easily, such as golf and juggling. He can even paint very well.
  • All-Loving Hero: He never holds grudges or ill will towards the people who treat him like a monster because of his curse. He's also against killing people even if they're villains who have done unforgivable things, going so far as to swearing to befriend the witch who made his life miserable by cursing him.
  • Ancestral Name: His name is Viktor, a namesake to his grandfather Victor.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: His feelings for Alice are based on the fact she's the only person that chose to be with him.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: While he is a nice person, he didn't hesitate for a second to use his curse to kill a monstrous plant that was threatening Alice.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Has this towards Viola, though he doesn't get a chance to show it often. At the prospect of Viola starting dating, he demanded to be introduced to the suitor first, and forbids her from engaging in any sexual activity until she becomes an adult.
  • Blessed with Suck: Being able to kill anything or anyone with a single touch may seem like a cool or at least useful ability, but when said ability cannot be turned off and works on everyone and everything living, it can become an enormous burden to carry.
  • Broken Bird: Before he was cursed, the Duke was a cheerful and bright child, but years of living with the curse have made him gloomy and incredibly self-deprecative. He was even worse before Alice arrived, being bitter and depressed from isolation.
  • Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: The Brooding Boy to Alice's Gentle Girl. The Duke has been deeply sad and lonely ever since the witch cursed him and his family all but officially disowned him. His sole comfort is Alice who is always by his side in order to love him and help him find a way to break the curse.
  • Child Hater: A non-malicious example. He admits he dislikes interacting with children, but it's based on fear since they're unpredictable and fears they might touch him.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: The Duke and Alice used to know each other as kids, when her mother Sharon worked at the main estate as head maid, unfortunately they were separated following Sharon's death and the Duke's cursing. Ironically, the Duke was much more cheerful and friendly back then compared to Alice, who was much shyer, though it's still implied they had crushes on each other.
  • Covert Pervert: The Duke doesn't like showing it, but he will occasionally let slip that he does enjoy how much Alice teases him. The inside of his Mental World is filled with numerous Alices in different sexy outfits, including Cat Girl Alice, Playboy Bunny Alice, Anime Chinese Girl Alice, and more. He also occasionally thinks she and Caph look good together.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Downplayed, but he's never happy if someone else is flirting with Alice, even if it's unintentional.
  • Crush Filter: Whenever Alice is seen from his perspective, she looks extra cute with literal sparkles around her.
  • Dead Guy Junior: His name is one letter removed from his grandfather's and is pronounced the same way, implying that the Duke was named after him.
  • Defrosting Ice King: Before the start of the series, he was very depressed and bitter because of his curse forcing him to isolate himself for years. Thanks to Alice becoming his maid, his emotional state improved enough for him to start smiling again.
  • Delivery Not Desired: He sometimes writes letters to his family as a way of rehabilitation, but he never actually sends them.
  • Desperately Craves Affection: He hasn't been able to touch a single person ever since the witch cursed him as a little kid. Naturally, the Duke craves human connection and contact, made especially hard when the woman he loves keeps offering him to touch her even though she knows that would kill her.
  • Didn't Think This Through: At one point some years before the beginning of the series, he intended to run away from the estate in the middle of a snowstorm. He didn't get too far, and would have died if he hadn't being found.
  • Don't Call Me "Sir": After he and Alice finally get married, he needs to remind Alice to stop calling him "Duke" because he's now her husband and he isn't even a duke anymore due to him giving up his position as family heir. This leads to her calling him by his given name, Viktor, although she still adds the honorific "-sama" until she gets used to it.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: He can sometimes give off this impression, as seen when Philip came to visit him. Its completely unintentional though.
  • Elegant Classical Musician: One of his main points of attractiveness comes from being a piano virtuoso.
  • Endearingly Dorky: Alice loves to see his flustered and awkward reactions to her teasing.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": His first name isn't revealed until near the end of the series. In the original Japanese, he's mainly referred to as "Young Master" by his servants. It's translated as "Duke" in English even though he isn't actually a duke as he hasn't inherited his father's title yet.
  • Exhausted Eyebags: He has seemingly permanent dark circles under his eyes. He notes he often has trouble sleeping.
  • Eye Pop: Sometimes happens when Alice is taking the teasing too far.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: By the time Alice starts working for the Duke he doesn't even remember her, as he had been doing his hardest to suppress his childhood memories. He does manage to remember her eventually.
  • Freudian Slip: While arguing with Zain, he accidentally blurts out that he prefers butts over breasts.
  • Geek Physiques: Leans on the lanky type.
  • Happily Married: He marries his beloved Alice after his curse is finally broken. Although he had to give up his position as family heir, having Alice as his wife is his greatest happiness.
  • Heroic BSoD: Suffers a minor one when he receives a letter asking him to visit his family in the main estate.
  • Hikikomori: Due to his curse the Duke hates leaving the mansion, out of fear he will accidentally kill somebody.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: Years living in a crumbling mansion away from people has made the Duke incredibly lonely. While he is grateful that Alice and Rob are with him, the Duke wants to make friends, reunite with his family and show his love to Alice.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: All the Duke wants is to end his curse so he can return to his family and marry Alice.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: He really wishes to have more people in his life he could connect with. When Alice, in a later chapter, points out he has made a lot of friends, the Duke is overjoyed and takes a moment to appreciate that fact.
  • Insecure Love Interest: Due to years living alone because of his curse, the Duke has incredibly low self-esteem, seeing himself as worthless and not worthy of loving Alice as she would die if he ever touches her.
  • One True Love: He's Alice's, though he's unjustly prone to think that this is not the case.
  • Never Bareheaded: He dislikes being seen without his top hat, since he hates his curly hair (which he inherited from his father).
  • Nice Guy: Despite his issues, he is a nice guy who is friendly and kind to everyone. He is shown to have been a lot harder to deal with just a few years ago. Having suffered greatly from his curse and being ostracized by those around him, he had turned self-destructive and anti-social, however, Alice's arrival and emotional support helped him take a turn for the better.
  • No Name Given: He has never been referred to by name, only by his noble title. Not even his family or Alice have ever come close to mentioning it. It's finally subverted in Chapter 218, where it's revealed that his name is Viktor.
  • Nosebleed: When Alice gives him a Panty Shot.
  • No Social Skills: As a result of years of almost total isolation, the Duke is uncomfortable around strangers and struggles to make conversation, though he does get better over time. He was much worse before Alice came to the estate, though.
  • Not Distracted by the Sexy: Being exposed to Alice everyday has at least made him mildly resistant. Keyword mildly.
  • Prone to Tears: He tends to start tearing up whenever he is feeling down, which happens a lot.
  • Pursue the Dream Job: He wants to be a professional pianist and composer by trade, and eventually starts said pursuits once he gives up his inheritance.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The emotional and anxious Red Oni to Alice's calm and serene Blue Oni. This is reflected by their eye colors.
  • Rejecting the Inheritance: The Duke is willing to forego his birthright in order to be with Alice. Eventually, after his curse is lifted, he bequeaths his inheritance to Walter. The last chapter of the manga deals with him, Alice and Rob finally leaving the estate for good.
  • Rescue Romance: He fell in love with Alice when she physically and emotionally saved him on the day he tried to leave himself to die in a snowstorm, as she motivated him to continue living with her.
  • Save the Villain: Nico plans to turn back time with Zain's magic and kill Sade before she curses the Duke and Nico. The Duke, however, opposes to this. Instead, he's going to bring Sade to the present before she dies.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: The Duke always wears suits at home, despite the fact he only regularly interacts with two people.
  • Sour Outside, Sad Inside: When Alice started to work as his maid, the Duke tried to do everything he could to push her away and make her hate him because he thought she was looking down on him and couldn't believe she really wanted to help him after he was isolated by his own family. He quickly grew out of it after Alice proved to him that she did care about him and wanted him to live.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Alice notes that when his hair is wet he looks a lot like his younger brother, Walter. When drawn with little detail, both his and Viola's faces are drawn very similarly.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: The Duke can't help but sympathize with Sade, the witch who cursed him, coming to the conclusion something horrible must have happened to turn her into such a cruel person, theorizing that it might have to do with her Telepathy, since A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Read. After he learns that Sade was hurt by her unrequited love for his grandfather, the Duke starts crying as he gets Sade must have felt lonely and sad like he was before Alice came along.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: Would never dream of using his powers to hurt any person or animal on purpose. He won't even consider killing Sade, when the possibility of going back in time to kill her before she can curse him is suggested.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: The Duke was an angry, bitter and depressed young man only two years ago. Alice's arrival changed him for the better.
  • Touch of Death: His curse affects not only humans, but also all living things, causing plants to wither in his hands; while it's effects haven't been shown on humans, it can be imagined that it isn't anything pretty to look at.
  • Unlimited Wardrobe: While he usually wears the same style of clothes, its noticeable that he always wears something different.
  • Uptown Girl: He's in love with his maid Alice, who is socially below his status. He pays absolutely no mind to this.
  • Waistcoat of Style: He is usually wearing one.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Having been given the possibility of rid himself off the curse by transposing it to someone else, the Duke outright refuses, as he cannot bear the thought of even touching Alice with the knowledge that another poor accursed person would have such terrible affliction. To him, the curse has to be gone for good, never to be inflicted on anyone anymore.

Alice is a young, beautiful and flirty maid in service of the Duke, daughter of the former chief maid from the main residence, and the Duke's childhood friend. Alice is always there for the Duke, be it to help him find the means to break his curse, or just to tease him.

  • Anger Born of Worry: The only time Alice has been truly angry with the Duke was during an incident soon after she started working at the estate, in which the Duke ran away in the middle of a snowstorm, and was about to give up on life completely.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: Alice is the blonde of the three main girls, with Viola as the brunette and Caph as the redhead.
  • Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: The Gentle Girl to the Duke's Brooding Boy. While she constantly teases him, Alice treats the Duke the most kindly and has no fear of being close to him despite his curse. She's always by his side to give her love and support.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: She's well-endowed, and the Duke often finds himself staring at her chest, especially when they bounce.
  • The Comically Serious: No matter how absurd or even threatening the situation may get, Alice remains immovable and always ready to get coy with the Duke.
  • Cool Big Sis: Does her best to act as one for Viola, who always wanted an older sister in which she could confide.
  • Crush Filter: Not as obvious nor often as when the Duke looks at her, but when Alice lets the Duke look inside her Mental World, he sees himself literally glowing and outshining everyone in the room.
  • Damsel in Distress: Invoked and subverted. Visitors and onlookers think that she's being forced to serve the Duke, and justifiably try to rescue her from the huge peril of being in his presence. It's fair to say that they do have a point, but fail to recognize that Alice is there by choice and is completely unencumbered and uncoerced in that decision.
  • The Defroster: Before Alice arrived to work under him, the Duke had grown bitter, resentful and erratic after over a decade of almost total isolation. Alice coming into his life brought with it changes that allowed him to mellow out into the Duke we meet when the series starts.
  • Determinator: Best shown when she first arrived to the manor. The Duke was in a depressed state of mind and wanted to be left alone, but Alice refused to leave his side and stayed with him, her support helping soothe his pain and helping him take a turn into becoming a better person.
  • Disappeared Dad: His absence is particularly noteworthy, given how well-loved her mother was, and how relevant she is to the story. When questioned, Sharon reveals that he abandoned her for another woman while Alice was still a baby.
  • Double Entendre: As The Tease, she loves using these with the Duke.
  • Dull Surprise: Her usual reaction to most events, which makes her very hard to read.
  • The Gadfly: Alice often teases the Duke, as she finds his reactions amusing. She also does it when he gets gloomy, to snap him out of it.
  • Girls Like Musicians: One of the things that she loves the most about the Duke is his virtuosity on the piano, and many of their most tender moments happen while he's tickling the keys.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Alice has blonde hair and is kind to everyone around her.
  • Hands-On Approach: How she teaches the Duke to play golf except, obviously, for the touching him part.
  • Happily Married: She becomes Viktor's wife after his curse is broken and they're more in love than ever.
  • Hero-Worshipper: Alice looks up to her mother Sharon, even deciding to be a maid in part to be like her.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Albeit she reciprocates the Duke's affections and wants to spend her life with him, she never quite shakes off the thought that she's below his social status, regardless of whether the Duke reassures her that he doesn't mind.
  • Home Nudist: She doesn't like wearing clothes inside her room. And she usually doesn't bother to dress up when answering the door.
  • Insecure Love Interest: She feels unworthy of the Duke due to being a commoner. She also is secretly worried that when the Duke breaks his curse, he'll move on with his life and she won't be able to be part of it because a nobleman shouldn't be allowed to marry a maid.
  • I See Dead People: Has the ability to see and communicate with ghosts.
  • It Was a Gift: Her crux earrings were given to her by her mother and are very precious to her.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: She wishes for the Duke to be reunited with his family, even if it means that he won't be able to return her affections anymore. After his curse is broken, Alice tries to leave him in order for him to not get in the way of him living with his family again. However, he chases after her and declares he can only become truly happy if Alice marries him.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: She's the reason the Duke did not give up on his life, and she's the main source of his morale. He's alive to love her.
  • Master of the Mixed Message: The Duke is never sure if Alice seriously likes him or just likes teasing him. Over time, it becomes obvious that it's a mix of both.
  • Mock Surprise Reaction: Does her best to feign surprise when Viola "reveals" that she has a crush on Rob. Luckily Viola buys it.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She is fond of wearing revealing outfits, and often partially undresses in order to tease the Duke. A lot of panels also show her in suggestive angles.
  • Naughty Nurse Outfit: Wears one in the cover page for Chapter 41.2, and then again for the entirety of Chapter 160.
  • Nephewism: After her mother passed away, Alice lived with her aunt who mistreated her for years until Rob came to hire her as the Duke's maid.
  • Nerves of Steel: She is constantly risking her life by being around the Duke, and tempting him to touch her despite knowing that would kill her.
  • Nice Girl: She is a very kind young woman.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: Has none when it comes to the Duke, which justifiably worries him to no end.
  • Not So Above It All: Alice is a huge tease that loves to make the Duke as red as a tomato, but if he is ever upfront about his feelings for her, she's blushing just as much.
  • Not So Stoic: Besides being weak to the Duke acting romantic towards her, she once almost breaks down laughing at Caph acting adorably.
  • One True Love: For the Duke. She's the love of his life.
  • Plucky Girl: She's at mortal peril by remaining with the Duke, but she won't leave him and is actively choosing not to live in fear of someone who is so dear to her. And she doesn't care if others think she's gone mad for doing so.
  • Precious Photo: She wears a small locket where she keeps a picture of her mother. She later gets a picture of her beloved Duke and adds it to the locket.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The calm and serene Blue Oni to the Duke's more emotional and anxious Red Oni. This is reflected by their eye colors.
  • Romantic Spoonfeeding: One of the manners in which she teases the Duke is by insisting to do this.
  • Servile Snarker: She's a maid who enjoys teasing and messing with her employer The Duke, though she only acts like that when they're in private and tends to act respectfully and stoically around guests.
  • Sexy Santa Dress: The Duke briefly imagines her wearing one in Chapter 50.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: Whenever she is around the Duke, which is to say most of the time, she partially undresses to show him her legs and cleavage.
  • Shipper on Deck: Because she likes Viola, she quietly supports Viola's crush on Rob. She is even willing to act as a Third Wheel when Rob and Cauldron-chan (who has a crush on Rob), are spending time together.
  • Showgirl Skirt: When disguised as a witch, she wears a dress with a skirt that's short at the front and long at the back.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: She only has eyes for the Duke, and no one else.
  • Single Tear: She shed a tear when the Duke confessed that he was in love with her for the first time. At first, it seemed like it was out of happiness, but Rob later wonders if Alice was actually sad that the Duke's love for her could only cause him trouble after his curse breaks.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: She fell in love with the Duke when he showed kindness to her, knowing that she got sick easily, but still befriended her anyway.
  • Sleeps in the Nude: She wears nothing when she sleeps alone, much to the Duke's shock and embarrassment when he has to talk to her one morning. It's both played for fanservice and to illustrate her provocative and eccentric nature.
  • Stocking Filler: She wears fishnet stockings, and tends to lift her skirt to show them off.
  • The Stoic: Downplayed. She is more subdued than emotionless, and usually has no trouble expressing how she is feeling.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She looks like a young version of her mother, though she's more collected and stoic. Sharon's acquaintances tend to mistake her for her mother whenever they first meet Alice.
  • Subordinate Excuse: Alice became the Duke's maid because she had been in love with him since they were children, and this allows her to spend time with him.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: She's very calm and composed, almost always having a serene expression. Despite that, her deep love and devotion for the Duke are obvious, showing her happiest smiles and blushes to him only.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: Alice, just like the Duke, can sympathize with Sade after learning her sad past. Sade offers Alice to kill her so everyone else can be happy, but Alice hugs her and shows compassion for her pain. This is what leads to Sade's redemption.
  • The Tease: She loves to sexually arouse the Duke by showing him some of her skin, getting in his personal space, and saying things that she purposely makes sound perverted.
  • Tell Me About My Father: One of the first things she asked Sharon once she woke up is to tell her about her father. She had tried asking Rob before, but he always avoided her.
  • Tender Tears: She breaks down in elation when the Duke's curse is finally lifted.
  • Toplessness from the Back: In the cover page for Chapter 37.
  • Town Girls: The Femme. She's the most ladylike and flirtatious compared to the tomboyish Caph and the childish Ojou Viola.
  • Undying Loyalty: Towards the Duke. She refuses any offer that would separate them, and is willing to risk her life on a daily basis to be his maid.
  • Uptown Girl: As a maid, she's below the Duke in terms of status. Albeit she is certainly preoccupied with this, the Duke is firmly unbending at the goal of spending his life with her.

    Rob Gardner
Voiced by: Hōchū Ōtsuka (Japanese), Kent Williams (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rob_shinigami_bocchan.jpg

An elderly butler in service to the Duke's family, he was the head butler until the Duke was banished to the old family house to prevent his power from harming anyone. Rob was charged with taking care of him until the curse was lifted. Though a gracious and affable man, he is somewhat senile and hard of hearing.

  • Because You Were Nice to Me: His Undying Loyalty towards the Duke's family seems to have started when the Duke's grandfather gave a destitute and soaking Rob an umbrella while it was raining.
  • Blind Mistake: Has presbyopia, and often has trouble telling people apart from each other.
  • Consummate Professional: Said to be the best butler in all the ducal estate and a true example to follow. Funny thing is that, even when he's becominc senile and going deaf, he's still peerless.
  • Cool Old Guy: Despite being almost 60 years old and perhaps a bit senile at times, Rob is shown to be a kind and friendly gentleman. Also despite of his declining health, he's an unparalleled butler.
  • Delayed Reaction: It takes him a moment to process the Duke and Alice are in a Flying Broomstick in Chapter 119.
  • Dull Surprise: Much like Alice, not much really fazes him.
  • Eyepatch of Power: His right eye is covered by one, which is in turn covered by his bangs.
  • Eyes Always Shut: His left eye is almost always seen closed.
  • Eye Scream: His right eye was crushed in a fight when he was a young man.
  • Go Through Me: When Sade's offspring reveals itself, Rob stands in front of Alice to cover her while it is bouncing around the room.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: He uses his hair bangs to hide his missing right eye, since the Duke thought his eyepatch was scary.
  • Hired Help as Family: As the Duke says so himself, his butler Rob has been more of a parent to him than his biological parents who pretty much abandoned him after he was cursed. Rob himself considers the Duke and Alice to be his family.
  • It's Personal: Albeit it's said that Rob was basically "retired" to the country estate because he's old, so him dying to the Duke's touch wouldn't be much of a blow for the household, it's heavily hinted that he chose to be there for the Duke's sake.
  • Master of the Mixed Message: He truly is unaware of Viola's feelings towards him, but his occasional gestures of affection led the Duke to wonder if he is this.
  • Mentor Archetype: Throughout the manga, he's actively still teaching Alice on the ways of serving the Duke.
  • Nailed to the Wagon: Downplayed. Rob likes smoking, but the Duke makes sure to only let him have a cigarette a day.
  • Oblivious to Love: Rob has no idea that Viola has a huge crush on him.
  • Parental Substitute: Due to the Duke having been banished at a young age, Rob has been solely responsible for raising him most of his life, which combined with the Duke's father's failing health, makes him the closest thing the Duke has to a father. A flashback shows that he originally resented being placed in charge of the Duke, seeing it as being cast aside in his old age to care for an unloved outcast in a crumbling manor.
  • Scatterbrained Senior: Downplayed. He's fairly competent at his job for his old age, but his eyes, ears, and a bit of his memory are failing him so he can be somewhat absentminded and forget important things like that if he touches his master, he'll die.
  • Shipper on Deck: He fully supports Alice and the Duke's love, even considering it their destiny to be together, as the Duke's grandfather and Alice's mother were close friends in the past.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Towards Sade's offspring, that was telling Alice it was her fault Sharon was cursed. Rob is having none of that, and makes it clear Sade is the one at fault.
  • Silver Fox: He is very handsome for his age, at least Viola thinks so.
  • Smoking Is Cool: Is sometimes seen smoking.
  • Tragic Keepsake: A handmade music box that Victor had gifted to his wife. After both of them died, he ended up inheriting the music box.
  • Undying Loyalty: He has sworn he will serve the Duke until the day he dies. As it turns out, his loyalty towards the Duke comes from his loyalty towards the Duke's late grandfather, who was the one to hire Rob as a butler.

The Duke's younger sister. Though bratty and confrontational, she's her brother's most frequent visitor. She is shown to have a crush on Rob.

  • A-Cup Angst: Has something of a complex regarding her lack of breasts, not helped by the fact that she is often around the better-endowed Alice and Caph.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: She has a habit of teasing and mocking her older brothers at times.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Much like Walter, she is also much more perceptive than initially apparent.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: She's the youngest both among her siblings and her girl friends. Her cutely childish personality makes them want to pamper her.
  • Bad Liar: Which contributes to her crush on Rob being known to everyone around her.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: Viola is the brunette of the three main girls, with Alice as the blonde and Caph as the redhead.
  • Character Tics: She has the habit of twirling her pigtails with her finger.
  • The Cutie: Her main role in the series is being the protagonist's adorable little sister.
  • Duet Bonding: At Viola's violin performance, the Duke forms a duet with her by playing the piano to help her overcome her Performance Anxiety.
  • Elegant Classical Musician: She is very good at playing the violin.
  • Expressive Hair: Her pigtails act as her "Old Man Radar", moving around trying to locate old men once she is told there is one in her presence. Said radar gets rather confused around Nico.
  • The Fashionista: She has a great fashion sense and Caph tells her she should think about working as a designer.
  • From Dress to Dressing: When she finds an injured Walter, she lets him use her coat to stop the bleeding on his face.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She has very long pigtails, suiting her role as the protagonist's cute little sister.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While she does have a habit of pestering the Duke, he notes she does tend to drop by and visit him once in a while, unlike the rest of his family.
  • Likes Older Men: She has a crush on Rob, and the Duke points out that every man she's ever had a crush on was significantly older than her. She claims that it's because she views boys around her age as being too immature.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: She's the only one who doesn't know Alice is in love with the Duke. Everyone else just finds it way too obvious. Then again, Alice told Viola that the man she loves is like a prince, so Viola thought it was impossible she was talking about her brother. Alice finally tells Viola she loves the Duke in Chapter 189.
  • Minor Injury Overreaction: Pricking her finger with a needle makes her collapse on the floor and put a cast on her entire hand.
  • Overnight Age-Up: After inadvertently saving a witch, she is rewarded with her desire of becoming an adult. The witch turns her 20 until the midnight of that day.
  • Performance Anxiety: She nearly paralyzes from anxiety when playing the violin in front of a crowd at a party. The Duke playing the piano calms her down.
  • The Runaway: Considers becoming this in Chapter 62 following a fight with her mother, but ultimately decides against it.
  • Shipper on Deck: She supports Daleth's love for Walter and helps her dress up to look beautiful for Walter.
  • Stocking Filler: She wears a set of garters and thigh-highs with her shorts.
  • Sweet Tooth: Likes eating sweets.
  • Token Mini-Moe: She's the youngest member of the main cast, being much shorter and flat-chested next to the busty older girls.
  • Town Girls: The Neither. She isn't ladylike like Alice, but is still girlier than Caph.
  • Tsundere: Non-romantic example towards her brother. She would never say it to his face, but she truly loves him and is glad that he has been able to find a measure of happiness despite his circumstances.
  • "Well Done, Daughter!" Girl: Her mother used to dote on both of her older brothers, so Viola would work hard in order to be noticed too, to no avail. Nowadays, their relationship has turned somewhat hostile, but Viola still seeks her approval.

The Duke's younger brother, the second oldest male brother in the household, who is set to become the next head of the family should he fail to lift the curse in time.

  • Always Second Best: He is deeply envious of the Duke's position in the family, compared to his own as the second son, so he desperately seeks to prove himself better than him.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: He is noted to look rather attractive when disguised as a girl.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: He was able to deduce other witches wouldn't be able to undo the Duke's curse when he sees that he is hanging around them. Later on, he notices there are two witches, instead of one, messing with him and Alice, and he can tell one of them is a younger brother like himself just by the clothes he wears.
  • Berserk Button: Hates any references to the number 2, since he's the second born son and technically not in line to be the head of household. Viola likes to tease him on this, such as telling him it takes her two hours to reach the villa that the Duke is staying at.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Walter is openly caring towards Viola, and noticeably takes it upon himself to look after her during their time at the sorcerers school.
  • Cassandra Truth: When Gerbera asks where he and Viola had gone for several days, he is quick to reveal they went to a sorcerer’s academy. She doesn't believe it.
  • Commonality Connection: The first thing that makes Walter sympathize with Daleth is that Daleth also hates her older sibling.
  • Couldn't Find a Pen: Played for Laughs. After throwing up blood from hearing the word "two", he uses it to write in order to communicate with the Duke, since using his own voice would let the Duke that he was actually Walter crossdressing, instead of Viola's maid.
  • Disguised in Drag: Later on, he starts crossdressing to sneak out of the house and remain unnoticed by anyone his mother might send to bring him back.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: When the Duke mentions that he wouldn't mind letting Walter become the family head, Walter gets absolutely livid. He doesn't want to be given the position by the Duke, he wants to earn it himself.
  • The Dulcinea Effect: Looks after Alice in the witches' world, and helps her recover her stolen pendant, just because she is a girl. Similarly, he can't help but reveal himself to Daleth when he hears her crying, and tells her You Are Better Than You Think in order to lift her spirits.
  • Face Fault: Can happen when someone pulls his Misery Trigger.
  • Failed Dramatic Exit: Crashes into a Christmas tree just after challenging the Duke to a duel.
  • Head Desk: Uses a pillar to do this when some witches keep getting on his nerves.
  • Hidden Depths: He is very good at golf, with the Duke even noting he has blisters in his hand from practicing. He also practices shooting at targets everyday, giving him great aim. He is also skilled with a rapier, which proves useful when Ichi gifts him a magical one.
  • Honey Trap: Attempts to seduce the Duke while crossdressing, convinced this would prove he is not fit to become the heir to the family.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Manages to somehow convince himself that dressing as a girl and seducing his own brother would create a scandal that would convince their mother that the Duke's not an adequate family heir.
  • Iron Butt-Monkey: He is quite resilient to pain, able to shrug off a beatdown from Viola as if it was nothing.
  • It's Personal: At first, he was only involving himself with his brother's curse and the witch Sade to prove that he could break the curse faster than his brother. When he faces one of Sade's spawn, however, he declares that now he wants to personally fight Sade to get back at her for scarring Daleth's face. When the main group travels to the past for a final battle with Sade, Walter's priority is making Sade heal Daleth's face.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: The Duke has been living in isolation since childhood, while Walter has been raised to take over if necessary, so he is not wrong when he says that he is more fit to take the position of family head.
  • Jerkass to One: He is usually kind and cordial with the people around him, yet he is nothing but resentful and disrespectful towards his brother.
  • Love Confessor: In Chapter 197, Walter finally confesses that he's in love with Daleth... to Daleth's past self, ironically.
  • Misery Trigger: Any reminder that he is the second son, even something as innocuous as saying the words "second" or "two", is enough to physically hurt him.
  • Nerves of Steel: He's utterly unflapped by past!Daleth's Mind Rape.
  • Nice to the Waiter: He treats the house staff kindly, and doesn't berate them for little mistakes.
  • Oblivious to Love: Has no idea of how much Daleth adores him after their first meeting.
  • Pass the Popcorn: Daleth from the past tries subjecting Walter to Mind Rape by showing him illusions of his brother being brutally murdered in front of him. Instead of being horrified, Walter enjoys the show as if watching a movie, complete with sitting at a theater and eating popcorn inside his Mental World.
  • Properly Paranoid: Tried to capture a white rabbit, because witches transform into white animals. Viola lets the rabbit go, unaware that it really was a witch.
  • The Resenter: He is deeply jealous and envious of his brother's position as eldest son, despite the Duke being banished from the main residence. He seeks to one up his brother at any opportunity he gets, and wants to earn the respect and stature he feels eludes him as the second son.
  • Royal Rapier: Ichi trains him and the others in the use of a special rapier whose blade only manifests from the hilt when thrusting. Walter is the only one to figure it out, so Ichi lets him keep the rapier. Walter was already experienced in using a rapier thanks to his upbringing as a noble, and manages to put it to good use.
  • Ship Tease: With Daleth. After he finds out about Zain's talent for time magic, his only question about it is if it could possibly be used to heal someone's scars, which results in a Sneeze Cut to Daleth.
  • Talking the Monster to Death: When two witches stole Alice's pendant, Walter notices one of them is a younger brother, and convinces him to return the pendant, which his older brother had stolen.
  • Unknown Rival: While Walter has made overcoming his brother his lifelong obsession, the Duke himself largely doesn't pay it much mind, and actually cares more about lifting the curse so he can live a normal life, than about becoming the family head.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: He seeks his mother's love, which he feels only the Duke has truly received.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: While initially he only dressed as a woman at Viola's request, he was actually pleased with the results. Eventually, he makes a hobby out of it.

    Gerbera

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gerbera.png

The domineering, cold and inflexible mother of the Duke and his siblings. The Dowager Duchess, she banished the Duke to the family's country estate and currently holds control of the duchy while her son seeks to lift his curse.

  • Arranged Marriage: Her husband was chosen for her by her parents.
  • Family Eye Resemblance: Her three children inherited her red eyes.
  • First-Name Basis: Sharon just casually referring to her by name underscores how close they really are.
  • Freudian Excuse: She grew up in a very strict household that didn't allow her to socialize or open up to others, which made her into the cold person she is. She herself isn't happy being the way she is, and yearns to be more open and sociable. However, losing Sharon, who was helping her accomplish that goal, plus a series of tragedies including her husband becoming ill and her eldest son having to be sent away, ended up making her withdraw further into herself.
  • Friendless Background: Her parents didn't allow her to make any friends while she was growing up.
  • Given Name Reveal: It actually takes the Duke a moment to remember his mother's name is Gerbera when Sharon mentions her.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She is very cold and condescending, even to her own children, and she often puts them down when they express interests unbefitting of nobles like them. Despite her harshness, she does care for her family, but is very bad at expressing it. In the past, she befriended Sharon to become better at socializing and sincerely thought of Sharon as a close friend.
  • Lost Pet Grievance: Her eldest son accidentally killed her beloved pet bird with his curse. Gerbera was so distraught that she called him "Death" and sent him to live at the Separate Estate to prevent him from killing people by accident.
  • No Social Skills: Most of her problems with her children are due to her never learning how to communicate and express herself in affectionate ways, which causes her to be very tactless. She originally befriended Sharon to learn social skills, but Sharon's sudden death made her even more withdrawn than before.
  • Parental Favoritism: Walter is convinced that she feels this towards the Duke, despite everything that has happened. There is some evidence that this was actually the case before the Duke was cursed.
  • Parental Marriage Veto: She tells the Duke that she doesn't approve of Alice as his partner, neither from the standpoint of the duchy, nor as a woman herself. However, she does imply that she won't stop him if he indeed wants to be with Alice.
  • Parental Neglect: Towards all three of her children, to different degrees. Viola notes that she always used to dote on her two older brothers, and despite her best efforts, she could never get her attention. Walter spent his life being told that his role would be to serve as his brother's replacement, but knows that their mother is always silently hoping for the Duke's return, which would make his upbringing pointless. And after sending him away, she never made any effort to maintain communication with the Duke, virtually cutting him off from the rest of the family.
  • Parents as People: She doesn't mean to be so harsh when talking to her children, but she doesn't know how else to communicate because of her strict and isolated upbringing. She originally asked Sharon's advice to learn how to be a more affectionate mother, but her friend's sudden death left her grief-stricken and lonely. She also doesn't want her eldest son to be apart from the family, but his curse is so dangerous for those around him that complete isolation was the only option she could see to protect those in the mansion. All in all, she has been under a lot of stress for the past years, especially since her husband has fallen ill and this forced her to assume the role of family head. Inevitably, her relationship with her children has grown strained as a result.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite being furious that Viola had been going to the separate estate in secret, she lets her off with a warning, and allows her to keep going as long as she asks for permission.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Played With. While sending the Duke away was harsh, it was also the right choice, since keeping him around a great number of people would only lead to accidents. However, she then decided to cut off all communication with him, except for the money that kept being sent his way. Her husband is in very poor health, so it's crucial that the heir is decided as soon as possible. Despite that, she still gives the Duke several months to find a way to break his curse. That being said, she doesn't really offer any help in doing so either.
  • Sentimental Drunk: Downplayed, but the Duke notes she gets a little more lively after drinking some wine.
  • Shared Family Quirks: Like her eldest son, she also gets embarrassed when thinking about her "dark past".
  • Sour Outside, Sad Inside: She isn't the heartless and cruel person she acts like. She already had trouble expressing herself because of her poor communication skills and lack of friends, but her son being cursed, her husband's illness, and the loss of her dear friend Sharon put so much pressure and stress on her that she became even colder and stricter towards her children.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: As severe and emotionless as she tries to portray herself, it's clear that she does love her children. She was worried about Viola and Walter when she discovered they lied to her about where they would be staying for several days, and Walter accurately concludes that the reason she spends most of her time standing looking out the front window is that she is always secretly hoping the Duke will return home someday. In a flashback, she could show a softer side of herself to her Only Friend Sharon, even telling the latter that she loved her to Sharon's surprise and embarrassment.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Flashbacks show her to have been a somewhat kinder person in the past. She became colder because of going through several tragic and stressful circumstances.
  • Trauma Conga Line: It's evident that losing her dear friend Sharon, her husband's failing health, the death of her pet, and having to send her cursed son away, have really taken a toll on her.

    Victor
The Duke's grandfather.
  • Benevolent Boss: His actions certainly paint him that way.
  • Deal with the Devil: He made a contract with Sade where he exchanged 20 years of his lifespan for reuniting with his wife as ghosts after dying.
  • Happily Married: He loved his wife Liz dearly and was devastated when she died in an accident on their wedding anniversary. It was what lead him to make a contract with Sade in order to see her again.
  • The Mourning After: He never loved any other woman after Liz died. After all, he knew he would reunite with Liz as ghosts after dying. This also was the source of Sade's jealousy as she wanted Victor to love her.
  • Only Friend: He was the first person to not be afraid of Sade and treated her as a friend. This caused Sade to fall in love with him. Knowing that Sade would be lonely without him, Victor hoped that Sade could become friends with Sharon after he died, but Sade's mad jealousy over Sharon's closeness to Victor made it impossible.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: With Sharon. They were very close and it's implied he was particularly fond of her because she had a similar personality to his wife Liz. Sade used her mind reading to confirm that the feelings between Victor and Sharon were just platonic friendship, not that it did anything to calm her mad jealousy.
  • Posthumous Character: He died before the Duke was even cursed, over ten years ago and it was his actions that indirectly caused the events leading to the Duke's curse.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: Victor is very calm and serious, in sharp contrast to his bubbly and cheerful wife Liz.
  • Secret-Keeper: He was the only one besides Daleth who knew about Sade's mind reading powers. That he kept her secret earned him Sade's trust.
  • Together in Death: He made a contract with Sade to reunite with his wife as ghosts and now they're traveling the world together like they wanted to in life.
  • Walking the Earth: Because of his contract with Sade, he and his wife stayed in the world of the living as a ghosts so they can travel around the world, which they couldn't do in life because of Liz's tragic death. Although, the catch is that they can't visit the same place twice and if they stay in the same place too long, they'll vanish.

    Sharon Lendrott
Voiced by: Kikuko Inoue (Japanese), Felecia Angelle (English)

Alice's mother, and former head maid of the main estate. She perished in an accident soon after the Duke was cursed.

  • Cute Clumsy Girl: She was very clumsy at first as a maid. The reason she wears a black maid outfit is that she always managed to make a mess of herself, so Victor ordered her to wear black clothing that would make the dirt less noticeable. However, she worked hard on improving herself, to the point of becoming the respected head maid of the house.
  • Deal with the Devil: As it turns out, she accepted being cursed willingly, in exchange for Sade curing Alice from her illness.
  • The Defroster: She played this role for Gerbera, with their friendship being what helped Gerbera to socialize and hopefully be a better mother. Losing Sharon made Gerbera more withdrawn than before. Sharon's return is the start of Gerbera coming out of her shell and improving her personal relationships.
  • Doting Parent: She thinks her daughter Alice is the most lovable girl in the world.
  • Endearingly Dorky: Both her fellow servants and her employers adored Sharon for her clumsiness and childlike cheerfulness.
  • Everyone Loves Blondes: Everybody adores the blonde Sharon. Even total strangers end up loving her soon after meeting her. The one big exception is Sade.
  • Good Parents: She's a very loving mother towards Alice.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: An incredible kind and friendly blonde woman, loved by everyone around her.
  • Hired Help as Family: When Sharon was the head maid, she was also her mistress Gerbera's Only Friend and confidant who was teaching her how to be more open. She also had a close bond with her master Victor, with Rob stating that Victor treated Sharon almost like a daughter.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: Sharon is a pure-hearted and sweet young woman with blue eyes.
  • Interclass Friendship: She works as a maid at the Main Estate and is good friends with Gerbera, the wife of the family head.
  • Intergenerational Friendship:
    • According to Rob, she and the Duke's grandfather were very close friends, comparing them to a father-daughter or teacher-student relationship.
    • When she wakes up from her sleep, Sharon rekindles her friendship with Gerbera who is now a decade older than her since Sharon was in suspended animation for years.
  • Karmic Jackpot: Went from being a single mother living in poor conditions with an ill daughter, to the respected head maid of a prominent noble house. All thanks to taking care of an injured Victor, who invited her to live and work in his manor.
  • Mama Bear: She had to thank her sister for looking after her daughter Alice after her disappearance, but she couldn't hold back from roughing up her sister when she heard about her sister having mistreated Alice for years.
  • Missing Mom: She died in an accident, long before the beginning of the series, leaving Alice an orphan. It's eventually revealed that Sharon has actually been in a coma since Alice was a child thanks to Sade, the same witch that cursed the Duke, and that she'd willingly chosen to do so to better Alice's health.
  • Morality Pet: Sharon's friendship with Gerbera reveals the latter's most humanizing traits.
  • Mum Looks Like a Sister: When she finally wakes up from her sleep, Sharon and Alice look like twin sisters instead of mother and daughter. It comes with being less than a decade apart in age due to Sharon's aging being frozen for years.
  • The Needless: She had no needs at all during her eternal slumber, as part of the curse Sade cast on her.
  • Only Friend: She is Gerbera's first and only friend.
  • The Pig-Pen: She always got her maid uniform dirty when cleaning. Rob gave her a completely black uniform so the dirt wouldn't be as noticeable.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: With Victor. They shared a very close bond, but it never went beyond friendship on either side.
  • Posthumous Character: She died long before the beginning of the series. At least, that's what most people thought. The truth is that Sade cursed her to fall into an eternal slumber.
  • Red Herring: There were scattered hints that she might had been the witch that cursed the Duke.
    • She was shown to wear black lipstick and nail polish, said witch's only identifiable features.
    • She was an acquaintance of Daleth's, who revealed the witch that cursed the Duke was already dead, much like Sharon was presumed to be at the time.
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: Rob told everyone that she had died in an accident, as he didn't want Alice to know her mother had been killed. Turns out, she wasn't dead, but certainly looked that way thanks to Sade putting her in a coma.
  • Rip Van Winkle: She was in a deep slumber for over a decade, but was more "preserved in time" than actually sleeping. She didn't even age at all.
  • Rubber Face: Daleth subjects her to this to check if she is real, after Sharon woke up from her coma.
  • Shipper on Deck: She starts supporting Alice's love for the Duke as soon as she learns about it. She even considers marrying a noble if that helps Alice overcome the class difference between her and her love.
  • Struggling Single Mother: She used to live in poverty while raising her sickly daughter, not able to get a job since she had to take care of Alice. Fortunately, a grateful Victor took both of them into his house after she nursed him back to health.
  • Supernaturally Young Parent: She was already a rather young mother to begin with, but after waking up from a curse that kept her frozen in time she is now, biologically and mentally, less than a decade older than her daughter.
  • Sweet Tooth: She loves ice cream.
  • Wacky Parent, Serious Child: She is very talkative and has a sunny disposition, while her daughter is much more subdued and quiet. Lampshaded by Viola.

Witches

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cuff_shinigami_bocchan.jpg

A young witch the Duke meets one snowy day, after getting exhausted and collapsing in snow trying to find an earring Alice lost. She possesses an affinity for fire magic, and works in a circus to pass off as a human. She is very playful and airheaded.

  • Animorphism: Can turn into a bat to fly.
  • Asleep in Class: She has trouble staying awake in class during her time at the sorcerers academy.
  • Beta Couple: With Zain. Like the main couple, Duke and Alice, Caph is in a Childhood Friend Romance with Zain, but they have it easier as their only issue is Zain liking to flirt with women while Duke and Alice are busy trying to break Duke's curse so they can even touch.
  • Big Eater: Can eat several plates of food by herself in one sitting, with room for more afterwards.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: Caph is the redhead of the three main girls, with Alice as the blonde and Viola as the brunette.
  • Boyish Short Hair: She keeps her hair short to fit her easygoing tomboyish character.
  • Bring It: Towards the water clone of herself Ichi has her fight.
  • Brutal Honesty: She is honest to a fault, and way too blunt, which the other characters sometimes call her out on.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: For all her quirks, she is an excellent acrobat. Zain and Viola note that she seems like an entirely different person while performing.
  • Calling Your Attacks: Parodied with her Hot-as-the-Sun Ball. She doesn't even remember the full name next time she uses it.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: She and Zain have known each other since they were children and have been friends since. Both also have romantic feelings for each other.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She often gets mad at Zain hitting on other women, such as Alice. If she gets the chance, she'll also hit him when she sees him trying to be a Casanova Wannabe.
  • Cute Little Fangs: Usually shown when she is excited.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Her parents were killed by humans when she was a child.
  • Elemental Hair Colors: She's a user of fire magic and has red hair.
  • Exposed to the Elements: She can wear her usual Minidress of Power in the middle of winter without getting cold thanks to her magic.
  • Fiery Redhead: She's very hot-blooded, and fittingly, a redhead.
  • Finger-Snap Lighter: Does this for Ichi, while complaining that she smokes too much.
  • Genki Girl: Very excitable and gullible.
  • Good Is Dumb: Really isn't the best when it comes to thinking things through, which is why she usually trusts Zain's judgement.
  • Go Through Me: She is quick to position herself between Alice and Ichi when the latter first appears before them with unclear intentions. She doesn't manage to do much.
  • Half-Breed Discrimination: Has been subjected to this her whole life, from both humans and witches. At least the witches let her be for the most part.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Her mother was a witch, while her father was human.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: She doesn't mind taking her clothes off around other people.
  • Juggling Dangerously: Juggles blades in the circus.
  • Kindhearted Simpleton: She's very simpleminded and kinda dumb, but she's still one of the kindest characters in the cast.
  • Lethal Chef: She is a terrible chef.
  • Magic Skirt: Magic must be the reason her underwear isn't constantly showing.
  • Mundane Utility: Sometimes uses her fire to dry herself and her friends.
  • Never Learned to Read: Or write, naturally. Alice and Rob end up giving her lessons.
  • "No More Holding Back" Speech: In her last training session with Ichi, she decides to stop relying on Zain to protect her, and to start deriving strength from protecting those dear to her instead. As a result, she grows more powerful, and becomes able to summon flames much hotter than before.
  • No Poker Face: She can't keep a poker face when she gets the Joker in a card game.
  • Pervert Revenge Mode: How she reacts whenever Zain is acting like a pervert.
  • Playing with Fire: She specializes in conjuring and manipulating fire.
  • Sideboob: The dress she wears in the cover page of an omake.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Funimation's subtitles calls her "Cuff".
  • Still Believes in Santa: She's the only one at the Christmas party who expects Santa to show up and Walter easily fools her by putting on a Santa costume.
  • Technicolor Eyes: Her eyes are pink.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She acts like a laidback tomboy with no awareness of femininity or etiquette, but she always wears the cute dresses Zain and Viola pick for her.
  • Town Girls: The Butch. She has short hair and acts quite tomboyish compared to the maid Alice and the Ojou Viola.
  • Tsundere: Sweet type. Caph is friendly and clearly loves Zain a lot, but Zain acting like a lecherous pervert makes her hit him more often than she shows him affection.
  • Unwanted Rescue: Caph believes she needs to be strong on her own and stop relying on Zain to solve problems for her. While Zain tries respecting her wishes to be independent, he still uses his time stop magic to save her from very dangerous situations. Caph thanks him, but complains that she doesn't want Zain to rescue her every time her life is at risk.

A young tengu witch and childhood friend of Caph. He works in a circus alongside Caph. He is known for his lecherous sense of humor, and for his crush on Caph.

  • The Ace: He is noted to be a real magical prodigy, being able to No-Sell Daleth's illusions against him, and having a unique talent with time magic.
  • Animorphism: He can turn into a white raven to fly.
  • Beta Couple: Like the main couple, Duke and Alice, Zain and Caph are in a Childhood Friend Romance. They quickly become friends with Duke and Alice, forming a comedic contrast to the main couple's problems caused by the Duke's curse.
  • Bird People: He looks like a human-sized, anthropomorphic bird.
  • The Caretaker: He practically has been acting as Caph's caretaker ever since her parents were killed in the witch hunts. It seems Caph needs Zain's help for even the simplest everyday things like eating and dressing.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Zain and Caph are childhood friend and are obviously in love with each other. They eventually start dating.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: Zain tends to flirt with girls and is otherwise quite blunt, which often leads to him getting smacked around by Caph, but he is shown to be a good person who deeply cares for Caph and her well-being.
  • Flipping the Bird: To a cat, through which Daleth was spying on him.
  • Four-Fingered Hands: His hands have only four fingers each, which really should drive home his inhuman nature.
  • Horned Humanoid: He has a pair of horns.
  • Ladykiller in Love: He may love to flirt with cute girls, but Caph is the only one he truly loves.
  • Master of Illusion: Even more skilled at illusion magic than Daleth.
  • My Greatest Failure: His repeated failure to save Caph's parents, despite giving her hope that he would be able to. It's the real reason he stopped using his time powers.
  • "No More Holding Back" Speech: Has one when he finally musters the will to use time magic again, deciding to use it to protect Caph.
  • The Peeping Tom: Attempts to become this in Chapter 133, but Ichi doesn't let him.
  • Psychosomatic Superpower Outage: The trauma he suffered from failing to save Caph's parents left him unable to his Time Master powers at their full potential for years.
  • Taking the Bullet: He covers Caph and Hugo with his own body when Hugo's old gang start throwing stones at them.
  • Tears of Blood: After failing to save Caph's parents over and over again.
  • Time Master: Has affinity for time manipulation magic.
  • Time Stands Still: As part of his powers over time, he is capable of stopping it at will, though not for long. Unfortunately, he realizes he is only able to use his powers to their full potential when Caph's life is in danger.

    Daleth
Voiced by: Yōko Hikasa (Japanese), Katelyn Barr (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/daleth_maskless.png

The current boss of the witches. She presides over the Sabbaths, and has connections to both Alice's mother and the witch who cursed the Duke. She often wears a skull mask.

  • Animal Eye Spy: She can see through the eyes of animals, allowing her to easily spy on people.
  • Benevolent Boss: She treats the other witches as friends, and has overall made life easier for all of them, making her very liked and well-respected. It is particularly noted she is this when compared with her immediate predecessor, her twin sister Sade, who was notoriously irresponsible and hard to approach.
  • Blemished Beauty: Because of her sister, her face is heavily scarred. Walter finds her beautiful nonetheless. Near the end of the series, Sade heals Daleth's scars as atonement.
  • Broken Bird: She was the most immediate victim of her sister's manipulations, as she was shaped by Sade as a sort of lackey. Her efforts against the Duke and his friends are mostly driven not only by these complexes, but also because she considers opposing Sade a futile endeavor.
  • Cleavage Window: Her nun habit has a diamond-shaped cutout above her cleavage.
  • Crush Blush: She's constantly blushing in the presence of her big crush, Walter.
  • De-power: She loses her magic after she completes the ritual to become human.
  • Don't Look At Me: Her reaction to anyone seeing her without her mask is hiding her scarred face and yelling people to stop looking at her. After Walter calls her beautiful, she doesn't try hiding her face anymore.
  • Dream Reality Check: She pinches Sharon's cheeks to make sure she's real because Daleth believed there was no way Sharon could ever wake up from the slumber Sade put her in.
  • Evil Twin Impersonation: She pretends to be a resurrected Sade for a little bit when she first meets Nico and Ichi, but drops it quickly when Walter's safety is endangered by her act.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: She definitely has a temper, which shows off at the slightest provocation, though she mostly limits herself to bluntly telling people to suffer in creative ways and die.
  • I Am Not Pretty: She thinks she's hideous because of her facial scars until Walter calls her beautiful.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: She wants to give up her job as boss of the witches and be a normal human, in order to become the same as Walter. At the end of the series, she successfully completes the ritual to become a normal human and gets engaged to Walter.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: A messed up example. Daleth's twin sister Sade knew people couldn't tell apart when they have the same face and wear the same clothes. The solution Sade came up with? Making nasty-looking scars in Daleth's face.
  • Insecure Love Interest: Daleth thinks of herself as ugly because of her scars and Sade's abuse left her with little to no confidence in herself. She worries she might be causing trouble for Walter and gets depressed when she sees him talking to a pretty noble girl as she fears Walter would choose any other girl besides her even if she became human to be with him.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After manipulating Zeff into using his time magic by threatening both her and their fellow performers and guilt-tripping him with illusions, Cuff is quick to abruptly slug Daleth and knock her mask off, prompting her to teleport away upon realizing her face could be seen. Considering her trauma over how her face got scarred and her subsequent Villainous BSoD, it's easy to feel bad for her, but it's hard to deny that she brought it upon herself.
  • Late to the Realization: Viola takes her inside and starts doing her hair. It takes Daleth a while to ask Viola what she intends to do with her.
  • Leg Focus: Viola compliments Daleth's long and beautiful legs, even modifying Daleth's nun habit to show off more of her legs.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: She is one with Walter, as together they bring the very best out of each other in spite of their massive insecurities.
  • Love Redeems: After going to great lengths to prevent the heroes from learning about the witch who cursed the Duke, and trying to force Zain to use his powers for Daleth's own purposes, she finally stops antagonizing them upon meeting Walter, who sympathizes with her, as he also knows what it is like living in the shadow of a sibling, and calls her beautiful despite the scars on her face.
  • Manipulative Bitch: She succeeds in forcing Zain to use time magic again by using illusions and endangering his friends.
  • Masking the Deformity: She initially hides her face behind a skull mask because her twin sister, Sade, left large scars on her face so people could tell them apart.
  • Master of Illusion: Can cast some pretty powerful illusions, being able to make her targets see whatever she wants them to.
  • Mind over Matter: She is shown to have a measure of telekinesis.
  • Mystical White Hair: She's the boss of the witches and has silver hair, although it's usually hidden by her nun habit.
  • Naughty Nuns: Viola redesigns Daleth's nun habit to make it more revealing, exposing the cleavage and the legs.
  • Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: Amelia assures the Duke and Alice that this is the case. She is eventually proven to be right.
  • Pen-Pushing President: Her job as the boss of the Witches' World mainly consists of stamping documents. The amount of paperwork increased since she started neglecting her duties to focus on Walter instead.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Underneath her mask, her default expression is a gloomy frown. She only smiles when she's with Walter.
  • Physical Scars, Psychological Scars: The scars on her face were left on her by her twin sister Sade, for something as petty as Sade hating that Daleth had the same face as her. These scars represent how Sade's abuse damaged Daleth's self-esteem and created a crippling fear of Sade that persists even years after Sade's death. Walter convincing Daleth to not hide her face because of her scars is the first step to Daleth growing confidence.
  • Playing with Fire: She can set things on fire with her mind.
  • Reluctant Fanservice Girl: She isn't happy with some of the revealing clothes she is made to wear while attending the sorcerer's academy, in particular the uniform's skirt.
  • Scars Are Forever: She hides her face because of all the scars her sister gave her so people wouldn't confuse them with each other.
  • Secret-Keeper: She was forced to keep Sade's mind reading powers secret.
  • Sexy Slit Dress: Viola modifies Daleth's nun habit to give it a slit skirt, exposing Daleth's long, slender legs.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: She looks great after Viola does her hair and puts makeup on her.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift: Shortly before the final arc, Amelia dyes Daleth's white nun habits black with ink. Soon after that, Daleth lets Viola redesign her habit to a more fashionable style as a way to show Daleth's newfound confidence.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Walter was the first person ever to compliment her and ask her to accept herself, despite her scarred face. As a result, she falls hopelessly in love with him.
  • Stalker with a Crush: After falling for Walter, Daleth starts using animals to spy on him or sneaks into the main estate to watch him in secret.
  • Super Not-Drowning Skills: She can last tens of hours underwater.
  • Twin Telepathy: She has a psychic link to her twin sister Sade. It's thanks to it that she realizes Sade truly died.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Her reason for forcing Zain to use his time magic again is that she wants to use it to awaken Sharon from her endless sleep.
  • What Does She See in Him?: Neither Keto nor Viola understand what does she see in Walter.
  • When She Smiles: Walter's heart skips a beat when he sees Daleth smile at him for the first time.
  • Wizards Live Longer: Looks like she is in her 20's, but is actually over 150 years old.

A plant-controlling witch.

  • The Dragon: She is pretty much Daleth's right hand woman. Tellingly, she is Daleth's first option to replace her as boss of the witches.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: She has flower-shaped pupils.
  • Green Thumb: She can control all plantlife.
  • Gyaru Girl: Her style and manner of speaking make her come across as one.
  • Hidden Depths: She is rather adept at carpentry, being able to repair a huge hole in the roof of a cabin in a single night.
  • Nice Girl: Surprisingly, given that she antagonized the heroes while doing Daleth's bidding, Keto is actually rather affable and personable. She also doesn't like holding grudges, and is quick to bury the hatchet.
  • Walking Swimsuit Scene: She wears little more than a swimsuit.

An octopus-like witch that specializes in disenchantments, whose help the Duke requests in order to deal with his curse.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: The human-looking part of her has gray skin.
  • Animal Eyes: Unsurprisingly, her eyes resemble an octopus'.
  • Blemished Beauty: She wears an eyepatch to hide the scar over her missing left eye. She still looks attractive, especially in her human form.
  • Chameleon Camouflage: Fades into the background whenever she gets embarrassed.
  • Cute Monster Girl: She's quite attractive for a half-octopus woman.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Chapters 112 to 115 focus on her relationship with the Ringmaster.
  • Eyepatch of Power: She wears one over her left eye, which has a scar running over it. Flashbacks imply she got this injury from the event where she met her husband.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: In her human form, her hair hides her missing left eye.
  • Interspecies Romance: 10 years before the start of the story she met the future ringmaster of Gemini Circus, who helped her escape from some pirates. Afterwards, they exchanged rings and have been "married" since.
  • Metaphorical Marriage: Amelia and her human "husband" never had a real wedding; they merely exchanged rings and have considered themselves a married couple since then, even though they haven't seen each other for ten years because Amelia can't leave the sea for long.
  • Rescue Romance: She met her husband at a ship where she had sneaked in to steal from humans. When the humans were attacking her, her husband helped her escape. They quickly fell in love and exchanged rings before she returned to the sea.
  • Scars Are Forever: She has a scar running over her left eye, which seems to have been blinded by an injury she received when she was captured by pirates 10 years ago. She usually covers most of it with an eyepatch.
  • Scary Teeth: Has interlocking shark-like (or octopus-like) teeth.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: Unfortunately, with both of them being different species, it is difficult for her and her husband to be together, especially since Amelia cannot stay out of water for too long.
  • Underboobs: Her shirt is cut short to reveal the underside of her breasts.
  • Unscaled Merfolk: She's half-woman and half-octopus.
  • Wizards Live Longer: She is over 150 years old, just like Daleth.

A witch working under Ichi and Nico.

  • Animorphism: Like other witches, he can turn into an animal. In his case, a Winged Unicorn.
  • Barrier Warrior: He specializes in creating protective barriers. He is able to create a transparent barrier around the Duke to prevent him from accidentally killing anybody while in the academy.
  • Chick Magnet: The students at the academy are all crazy for him.
  • Irritation Is the Sincerest Form of Flattery: He does his best to imitate his "big brother" Nico, from his appearance, to his mannerisms, to his Pungeon Master tendencies.
  • Kavorka Man: He is a short, overweight, middle-aged looking man that, somehow, has the interest of the seniors in the sorcerers academy.
  • Meaningful Rename: He renamed himself Free after Sade's death to represent his new freedom.
  • Winged Unicorn: His animal form.

    Sade

The witch that cursed the Duke.

  • Anguished Declaration of Love: When Victor died, Sade tearfully confessed that she wanted him to love her back.
  • Animal Lover: After her redemption, Sade grows fond of animals.
  • The Archmage: Sade was a magic prodigy and there wasn't any witch more powerful than her. In fact, her curses are so strong that no one can break them even long after her death.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: She is extremely powerful, surpassing her own father and taking his position as boss of the witches.
  • Bad Habits: She is dressed in white sister habits and is the most evil character in the series by far. The nun habit was a present from her father and even though she has no fond feelings for him, Sade wears it because she thinks people are going to be scared of a witch dressed like a nun.
  • Beware the Mind Reader: Her ability to read minds serves to make her even more terrifying.
  • Big Bad: She is the one who cursed not only the Duke, but also Nico and Sharon, therefore setting all the events of the series in motion.
  • Big Sister Bully: To an horrifying extent. She scarred her own sister's face using her nail, just to differentiate it from hers. She then forced her to wear a skull mask over it, after drawing a cross on it with her blood. The extent of her torment was so great, that even a decade after her death, Daleth is still terrified of her.
  • Broken Ace: Sade was the most powerful witch of all, having been born a magic prodigy. However, her great power caused her parents to shun her out of fear. The trauma of this rejection lead to Sade believing no one could ever be her equal and chose to rule the Witches' World through fear.
  • Broken Bird: Despite making herself out to be an unredeemably evil witch, Sade is really a sad and lonely woman who only wants someone to love her and understand her pain.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: She could never properly tell Victor how she felt about him, only admitting she wanted his love when visiting him in his deathbed. She wants to steal Zain's time control magic to travel to the past and confess to Victor, even though she knows he would turn her down because he was faithful to his late wife.
  • Child Prodigy: She was a witch prodigy who could cast very powerful spells from a young age. Unfortunately, her progress resulted in her own parents being afraid of her.
  • Cool Big Sis: She was like this to her sister Daleth while they were kids, though she stopped being it after she decided to rule through fear. She returns to being it after her Heel–Face Turn, as she helps Daleth with her romance with Walter, and is okay with Daleth becoming a human, even if that means that Sade will outlive her little siter.
  • Condescending Compassion: Daleth was nowhere near as gifted for magic as her and others looked down on Daleth for it. Therefore, Sade felt the need to look after her sister since she saw Daleth as a pitiful girl.
  • Dead All Along: She actually died in battle about 10 years before the story begins.
  • Death Seeker: From the satisfied look on Sade's face when she was killed, Nico believes she really wanted to die. Makes sense as she lost the will to live after Victor died.
  • The Dreaded: She is recognized as the most powerful and wicked witch of them all.
  • Easily Forgiven: She cursed the Duke with the Touch of Death, which forced him to live in almost complete isolation and misery for most of his life. Despite that, the Duke doesn't hate Sade and later decides he wants to befriend her instead of letting Nico and the other wizards kill her in the past. Alice and her mother Sharon also suffered hardships because of Sade who put Sharon in a deadlike coma for many years, but both choose to forgive Sade too because Sade healed Alice's illness in exchange for Sharon's coma. However, Nico does not believe Sade should be forgiven for cursing him with immortality and killing his comrades. In the end, Nico does let Sade live after she takes away his curse and changes the future so his comrades are alive.
  • Evil Is Petty: Why did she scar her twin sister's face? Because it looked too much like hers.
  • Faking the Dead: In the changed future, Sade didn't die. Instead, she pretended to be dead for several years in order to not alter the timeline too much.
  • Freudian Excuse: Even though the Duke knows Sade has made a lot of people suffer, he figures out Sade must have had a sad life because of her ability to read minds exposing her to the worst sides of people. Sade from the past realizes the motivation behind her cursing the Duke was to make someone else feel lonely and miserable like her.
  • Gratuitous French: She says "Bonjour" when greeting people.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Flashbacks reveal she wasn't happy about Sharon being so dear to Victor and it's one of the reasons she ended up cursing the woman.
  • Heel–Face Turn: The Duke and Alice forgiving her and offering her their friendship motivates Sade to have a change of heart and rectify her misdeeds, starting with healing Daleth's scarred face and undoing the curses she placed on the Duke and Nico.
  • Hopeless Suitor: She had feelings for Victor, but he only loved his deceased wife Liz. After her redemption, she's able to let go of her feelings for Victor and gets back in friendly terms with his ghost.
  • I Control My Minions Through...: Fear. Sade was scared of being betrayed and overthrown like she did to her father, so she decided to make all witches, including her own sister, fear her so much that no one would ever turn against her.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: Even though she tried to convince herself that she was fine as long as Victor didn't fall in love with another woman, she admitted that she did want him to love her. In the end, after her redemption, Sade finally accepts that Victor only cared about her as a friend, but is happy with that because the Duke and Alice showed to her that there's people who still want to befriend her.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: In the deepest part of her heart, Sade wants to have friends who love and accept her, but she believes she can't have that because of her trust issues and her past cruelty making her everyone's enemy.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy:
    • After the future is changed, the Duke brings Sade to meet the ghosts of his grandparents. Sade then makes up with Victor and can let go of her feelings for him since she has accepted that Victor's only love is his wife. She's really glad to see the married couple enjoying their afterlife together.
    • Also, a familial love example with Daleth. Sade gives her full support in Daleth's decision to become human and marry Walter. She's sad to know she'll eventually outlive her sister because witches live much longer than humans, but all she wants is for Daleth to be happy with the man she loves.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: The scars on Daleth's face are the easiest way to tell her apart from Sade, but there's other few differences. Daleth's nun habit has a Cleavage Window, while Sade's has exposed shoulders instead. Also, Sade's hair is much shorter than Daleth's, but it isn't notable when both are wearing their habits.
  • Kick the Dog: As if scarring her sister wasn't enough, the curse she placed on Sharon was originally set to subdue upon Alice's death, meaning Sharon would have woken up to find her daughter already dead.
  • Lonely at the Top: She became the boss of the Witches' World after overthrowing her father. This caused her to be surrounded by people who only approached her with the intention to take advantage of her and her telepathic ability made her aware of that. Sade ended up closing her heart to everyone to protect herself and acted cruel to make the witches fear her, but this also resulted in no one being able to befriend or love her.
  • Love Hurts: She was drive mad by the excruciating pain of her feelings towards Victor going unrequited forever and her jealousy towards Sharon, leading her to curse Victor's grandson and Sharon.
  • Love Makes You Crazy: She is obsessed with love, and becomes truly unhinged when talking about her own First Love aka Victor. She wanted to live with him forever, but he died soon after. Sade hasn't come to terms with it, and blames "them" for keeping him away from her.
  • Mayfly–December Romance: Sade was an unaging witch who ended up pining after the human Victor whose regular lifespan was reduced by 20 years because of his contract with her.
  • Mean Boss: She was the previous boss of the witches, but she often ignored her responsibilities and punished her subjects for the smallest faults. It's telling that no one really misses her over Daleth.
  • A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Read: When she revealed her telepathic powers to her father, all Sade could hear was him thinking how scared he was of her. After she became the new boss of the witches, Sade's telepathy let her know that everyone who approached her wanted to manipulate and betray her, causing her to close herself off from her subordinates. The Duke sympathizes with Sade when he imagines how hard it must have been for her to know people's bad thoughts.
  • Must Make Amends: Once the Duke and Alice finally convince her to change her ways, Sade starts her path to become a better person by literally tearing off the scars she made on Daleth's face and removing her curses from the Duke and Nico.
  • Mystical White Hair: She has silver hair and is the absolute most powerful witch of all.
  • Pining After Protagonist's Parent: She had unrequited romantic feelings for the Duke's grandfather, Victor.
  • Posthumous Character: She's long dead by the time the story stars, killed in a battle against sorcerers.
  • Reduced to Dust: According to Daleth, her body turned to dust and disappeared after her death. Ominously, all that remained was her blood on the ground, drawing a sinister smiling face.
  • Shipper on Deck: She wholeheartedly gives Daleth her support in her wish to marry Walter.
  • Sour Outside, Sad Inside: Her telepathic powers made her only see the ugly and bad sides of people around her. She became a cruel witch everyone would fear to protect herself from being manipulated and rejected by others.
  • Super Not-Drowning Skills: Once lasted over 80 hours underwater, and only stopped because she got bored.
  • Super-Power Meltdown: In the final arc, Sade's fight with Nico causes her magic to go on a rampage and create a tornado that traps her and everyone present inside.
  • Telepathy: She has the power to read minds, although only her twin sister and Victor knew of this.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Thanks to the Duke's and Alice's forgiveness and compassion, Sade changes for the better and starts to trust people. In the altered future, Daleth is amazed to see her once cruel sister now acts so kind and mature.
  • The Un-Favourite: Everyone praised Sade's amazing talent for magic. However, her parents soon became afraid of her power and doted on her younger twin sister Daleth instead, making Sade feel like an unwanted child.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Long ago, Sade was a nice little girl with a great talent for magic. Due to her own parents rejecting her for being too powerful, Sade grew up into a cruel witch who dominates the Witches' World by making her subjects fear her.
  • The Usurper: She stole the throne of the Witches' World from her father after she defeated him.
  • Villainous Breakdown: In the final arc, Sade acts with confidence that she has full control of the situation, but she has a major breakdown when her sister Daleth retreats from battle, which Sade takes as an act of betrayal.
  • Walking Spoiler: Her identity is one of the biggest mysteries of the series, and the ramifications of her actions are more far-reaching than initially apparent.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: She's a silver-haired witch acting as the main villain in the series.
  • Wizards Live Longer: Naturally, since she is the same age as Daleth, who is over 150 years old.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: The death of Victor, the only man she ever loved, drove her over the edge. The bitterness and sadness over Victor never loving her back lead to Sade cursing the Duke and Alice's mother.

Sorcerers

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sinigamiboccyan2_10_1.png

A human sorcerer, and Ichi's partner. Was cursed by Sade with Immortality about 10 years ago. Much like the Duke, he also seeks for a way to undo his curse.

  • Beneath the Mask: He is more of a Grumpy Old Man than he cares to admit; it sometimes slips through when he gets exasperated.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Ichi was his childhood friend when they were growing up and she agreed to be his girlfriend when they became adults. Although, their relationship became complicated when he got cursed to look like a little boy forever.
  • Fountain of Youth: Sade's curse resulted in him being turned into a prepubescent boy.
  • Gravity Master: Can affect the gravity around himself and his targets.
  • It Was a Gift: He wears an earring that Ichi made for him when they started dating.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Provokes this reaction with his puns.
  • Mark of the Supernatural: His right eye is light-colored while his left is dark and has a weird pattern on it. This is a good way to tell that he's special since he's a human sorcerer who was cursed with immortality.
  • Mayfly–December Romance: He was cursed to become an unaging child and his girlfriend Ichi is already an old woman. He wants to break the curse as soon as possible because he doesn't want to outlive Ichi.
  • Mr. Exposition: He is usually the one to explain things about the nature of sorcerers, and about Sade's past, to the other characters. Zain even lampshades he is this during their first meeting. Justified, since it comes with teaching at an academy.
  • No-Sell: His immortality makes him completely immune to the Duke's death touch. Making him one of the only characters who can survive being in contact with him.
  • Not Growing Up Sucks: He's naturally not very happy about being an old man trapped in the form of a little boy. What annoys him the most about his curse is that Ichi refuses date him as long as he looks like a kid.
  • Older Than He Looks: He is over 60 years old, but Sade's curse makes him look like a kid.
  • Pungeon Master: He is a bit of one.
  • Space Master: His magic is space manipulation.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Because he got de-aged into a kid, his girlfriend Ichi is twice his size.
  • Wall Crawl: He can walk around surfaces, likely thanks to his Gravity Master powers. He is even able to stand on the side of a flying carriage.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: He wants to find a way to break his curse of immortality because he wouldn't stand to be forced to live in a child's body forever, especially with the knowledge that he'll outlive everyone he knows.

  • Childhood Friend Romance: With Nico. She was his childhood friend and is now his girlfriend, although she won't date him as long as he's cursed to look like a kid.
  • Comical Angry Face: Can't help but show it every so often due to the antics of the younger characters.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: Shows shades of this while training the students, and even more so during her special training sessions with Caph.
  • I Was Quite a Looker: She was a beautiful woman before she got old and grey.
  • Knockout Gas: A variation. By blowing her cigarette's smoke into Caph's face, she made Caph fall to her knees and incapable of standing up.
  • Making a Splash: Can manipulate water to her will, allowing her to thoroughly dominate Caph during their fight.
  • Mentor Archetype: Takes this role for Caph in particular, helping her reach her full potentital.
  • Never Mess with Granny: She's an elderly woman, but also a skilled sorceress who can perfectly defend herself.

  • Smoking Is Cool: Often seen smoking a cigarette, and one of the most badass characters to date.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Her boyfriend Nico got de-aged into a kid and now he barely reaches her waist.
  • Waistcoat of Style: Shown prominently when she is training the students.

  • Ambiguously Brown: Has rather dark skin compared to most characters.
  • Blemished Beauty: She's an attractive buxom girl with a scar across her left cheek.
  • Dreary Half-Lidded Eyes: She never fully opens her eyes, giving her a permanent sleepy expression.
  • Healing Hands: A healing tongue in this case. She can return things back to normal by licking them. She uses this power to revitalize Caph after her training sessions with Ichi.
  • Masking the Deformity: She wears a face mask to hide the large scar on her left cheek.
  • Token Good Teammate: Comes across as this among her fellow seniors, who are varying levels of Ax-Crazy.

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: She got the extra classes she wanted, but they were taught by Ichi, not Free.
  • Blackmail: She threatens Alice with telling the instructors about Alice and company's trip to the past unless Alice agrees to work together to help her team win the following day's basketball competition. Alice's team, that is, since Evelyn wants to lose so she'll be "forced" to take remedial courses with Free.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Her eyes are blue, same as her hair.
  • People Puppets: She is able to physically control people by entering their bodies using her concealment sorcery.
  • Thinking Up Portals: She is able to create portals in any surface, opening them as if they were curtains, and then hiding inside them.

  • Horned Humanoid: She has two small horns growing in her forehead.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: She has red eyes, and is probably the most unhinged of the seniors.
  • Shear Menace: She wields huge scissors almost half her size as weapons.

The Ringmaster of Circus Gemini.

  • Cloudcuckoolander: He is an odd character, to say the least. It tells you something he proposed to Amelia the day they met.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Chapters 112 to 115 focus on his relationship with Amelia.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Everyone just calls him by his job title. His own wife doesn't know what his name is.
  • Interspecies Romance: He's a human who is married to Amelia, an octopus woman.
  • Metaphorical Marriage: He and Amelia call themselves a married couple, but they never had a real wedding; they merely exchanged rings before she had to leave him and return to the sea. The fact that they can't see each other because Amelia must live under the sea hasn't helped their "marriage" either.
  • Mistaken for Cheating: The members of Circus Gemini accuse their Ringmaster of cheating on his wife when he receives a love letter... that came from his wife.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: With Amelia. They're married, but can't see each other because she can only live at the bottom of the sea.
