Protagonist

    Momokawa Kotaro
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/momokawa.jpg
Please don't hurt me, Ruinhilde-sama!
  • Attack Reflector: His passive ability [Pain Return] reflects unto his attacker any damage he receives. There are several glaring problems with this, just from what Kotaro mentions alone:
    • He has to be injured to activate it.
    • If his opponent has a higher pain threshold than he has, or a healing ability, an injury that debilitates him could be shrugged off by his attacker.
    • If the opponent uses a proxy, he can hurt him without being harmed himself.
    • A group of attackers, each causing a small injury, can lynch him to a Death of a Thousand Cuts.
    • Since he can't deactivate [Pain Return], one can think of sacrificing him to kill a wild monster, just tie him up and throw him into a Boss Room.
  • Black Speech: He received the skill [Forbidden Decipher], which allows him to understand the Lost Language use by evil beings in their magic circles and records. But as Ruinhilde said: "It is not ignorance that is abhorrent, but prejudice."
  • Bears Are Bad News: The [Armor Bear] is the first monster he met and one of his recurrent enemies.
  • Blood Magic: His blood has magical properties and is necessary to activate some of his skills. He can also use other people's blood to fuel his rituals: the first time he uses this was against the Basilisk in the poison marsh.
  • Bloody Murder: From a drop of his blood, he can create an acid pool on the ground and walls.
  • Butterfly of Death and Rebirth: His skill [Contra-beat Butterfly] allows him to use medicines to create a butterfly that releases the opposite effect with its scales. He was able to deliver the final blow to Orochi by using this curse and a full-healing consumable to summon a Deadly Fairy.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: He prefers ladies who are "thick"note . The larger her breasts, the better.
  • Caught with Your Pants Down: After waiting for the night to avoid the eyes of the females he was travelling with, he masturbated to get the semen he needed to rebuild Rem. Unfortunately for him, Asuna discovered it, and then beat him, waking up everyone...
  • Classical Antihero: He's got a good heart, but he's cowardly and full of self-loathing due to his poor stats, lackluster [Vocation], and being on the receiving end of considerable amounts of ridicule and abuse.
  • Combat Pragmatist: He will use any possible means to win and survive.
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: Through many Near Death Experiences in the dungeon and the support of his patron deity.
  • Cosmic Plaything: To date, he's the only one whose godly patron actively appears in person and painfully grants new abilities first hand.
  • Cowardly Lion: He lacks self-confidence, and very much prefers to avoid combat wherever possible because he's well aware that his chances of victory are slim and require a herculean effort, for the small fries.
  • Creating Life: His skill [Vile Mud Doll] and derivates allow him to summon an artificial soul, he called Rem, and implant it in a body crafted out of Kotaro's blood and semen, mud, and monster materials. He can also attach the soul to a corpse, which can be that of an animal or a monster. He is also able to use it to animate an artificial shell.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: His Shaman abilities are focused around curses, yet he's morally upright most of the time. However, Kotaro is often viewed with great suspicion, not only because of his shady [Vocation], but for the necessary decisions he makes.
  • Demonic Possession: His skill [Evil Spirit Possession] summons evil spirits who can possess their victims, making them lose self-control, and Animate Dead.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Though it takes a long time to realize it, his skill-set is better than it seems, but it's also the hardest to use properly.
  • Dispel Magic: The skill he thought to be the most useless, [Red Fever], can negate all status effects by replacing them with a "slight fever". This was instrumental in defeating Ooyama, who had buffed himself out of the wazoo with strength buffs and poison immunity: one [Red Fever] later, he was Brought Down to Normal.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Which is lampshaded often. Between his short stature and long hair, people wonder if he's a girl. But because of his cute face he look more childish if he tries to cut his hair.
  • Enemy Mine: He can go along with his enemies if they have a common goal, but he's not too hung up when he later has to ditch or even kill them.
  • Fighting a Shadow: He can make a double of himself from his shadow, and control it like a Puppet Fighter.
  • Gaining the Will to Kill: Because of necessity.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: He's frequently jealous of his other classmates who get far better jobs and starting abilities than he does.
  • Grew a Spine: He became less cowardly than when he just arrived in the dungeon.
  • Guile Hero: His greatest asset is his cunning and resourcefulness.
  • Hope Crusher: After destroying the [Goma] kingdom, he destroys their King's last hope that, after centuries of hard work, he would at least leave an heir. This was deliberate, as he wanted to use their grudge to create a powerful cursed artifact he could use.
  • Human Resources: His Fool's Cane allows him to use the abilities of the dead by inserting their skulls on it. A variant is to use a skull to make a mask.
  • Jack of All Trades: His Shaman's abilities are very diverse, even include things like healing, crafting and understanding ancient language, although he's not as good as the Saintess and the Sage. He also got basic fighting skills by training with his classmates.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: For Meiko Futaba. Without him, she's a sobbing, broken mess, but hides it well as a Stepford Smiler.
  • Lost Language: Like Kotori, he eventually gets the ability to understand part of the [Ancient Language] needed to use the hidden functions of the dungeon.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: He's a kind guy that is willing to sacrifice himself if it's the price to save someone dear to him - but he has had to adapt to the circumstances, and he has suffered many disillusions.
  • Magic Cauldron: His skill [Witch's Cauldron] allows him to cook and make potions, like those that restore mana, and poisons, depending of the ingredients he has.
  • Magikarp Power: His starting skill-set was abysmal. Thanks to his cunning and resourcefulness, he survives and his [Vocation] turns out to be much more powerful than it seemed.
  • Manly Tears: After being reunited with Meiko and managing to ditch Yuuto's pursuit, she presses him to her chest and gently coaxes him to open up regarding his experiences. He resists futilely for a moment before he breaks down and sobs like a baby, right into her chest.
  • Master of Illusion: He can alter the appearance of an object or a person as long as it does not deviate too much from the original. For example, when he wanted to make a realistic [Goma] disguise, he used one's skin.
  • Missed the Call: When they were summoned, most of the class ended in the right place. Kotaro ended up falling out of the way because his desk neighbour Meiko accidentally shoved him. Fortunately, he doesn't land too far away from the rest...
  • Mundane Utility:
    • [Witch's Cauldron] can be used for cooking, food preservation and water purification, and if large enough it can double as a bath or toilet.
    • [Blackhair Bind] can create ropes, hammocks, curtain, or even cut meat.
  • Necromancer: His [Shaman] [Vocation] allows him to use the power of the dead. Either to make undead or to use their powers through their skulls.
  • One-Note Cook: After getting his [Witch's Cauldron] skill from Ruinhilde, he can make soups and stews, but does not know any other way to cook, aside from copying Meiko's "grilled snake-meat" recipe. Still, this does open up the nutritional options of just about any party he travels with as the only alternative is the nuts that are provided in the rest zones aptly named [Fairy Squares].
  • Paralyzing Fear of Sexuality: Justified. No matter how forward Meiko gets, he is greatly reluctant going all the way with her, and it's not because he's a "beta" Japanese protagonist. He's just afraid to lose her confidence while they're still in the dungeon.
  • Poisonous Person: His most offensive skill, [Rotten Bog], allows him to create an acid pool from a drop of his blood.
    • He can also use [Blackhair Bind] to make acid hairs.
    • He eventually gets a skill called [Venomic Vessel], which grants him immunity against poisons. It has other effects that he has yet to discover.
  • Power-Strain Blackout: So far, it has happened three times, all of them when he tried to craft a body for Rem that exceeded his limits.
  • Power Tattoo: He can use his blood to engrave various tattoos on people. The power they grant can be activated at will, but it comes with a curse - one of them grants an incredible physical boost at the risk of losing control.
  • Pragmatic Hero: Though relatively mild, Kotaro is pragmatic, he will not hesitate to torture monsters if he needs to test a poison he made or anything else, and he gets results.
  • Prehensile Hair: [Blackhair Bind] allows him raise hairs from the shadows or from his own body. Combining them, it grants him a a multifunctional weapon, which can also tie up an opponent, or launch a knife.
  • Social Engineering: Kotaro has learned to manage the relationships inside a party. He made "Class Rep" the leader of the [Worst Harem Party], gave both Julia and Maria the perfect excuse for one-on-one time with Tendo, which both of them really wanted, and repaired their relation with Randou. He even managed to make Reina participate in the raid on the [Goma] fort and lead the class until Orochi's final defeat.
  • The Smart Guy: He's always the smartest guy in his group, others tend to rely on him to find a solution.
  • The Strategist: He has a keen tactical mind and is quite talented in finding the most effective and viable strategy to deal with just about any situation, even under pressure. He's also able to think outside the box.
  • Supernaturally Delicious and Nutritious: His blood has a special taste, even Meiko found him delicious. This is why Yokomichi is hunting him.
  • Support Party Member: To his chagrin, because circumstances frequently force him into dungeon-diving solo.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: He's willing to shrug off a great deal of crap and is exemplary in his patience, but if you cross the line or whip out lethal force on him or his, he will find a way to kill you. End of Story.
  • Tiny Schoolboy: He's at least a head shorter than all others male students.
  • Trap Master: If possible, he will prepare a certain victory first and set traps using [Blackhair Bind] and [Rotten Bog] or simply asking Rem to ambush the target In the Back. Like he said:
"Even if your role is vanguard, it doesn’t mean you have to reveal yourself to the enemy from the beginning".
  • Torture Technician: When he needs to experiment, he uses [Goma].
  • Ultimate Blacksmith: He obtains an advanced crafting skill called [Curse Maker]. Although the performance is not as good as the skills of Kotori and Tendo, he was able to make an amazing staff from Yokomichi's remains.
  • The Unchosen One: That's why he has to struggle.
  • Unknown Item Identification: His skill [Intuition Pharmacy] can figure out the medicinal properties of any herbs, ingredients, or materials he has in sight. It is useful for when he needs to find edible food or materials for the potions and poisons he crafts with his [Witch's Cauldron].
  • Unlucky Everydude: Due to his short height and girly face, he wasn't exactly well-regarded, which left his self-confidence shot down. The fact that several bad guys went after him because they thought he was a girl did not help.
  • Vow of Celibacy: Invoked. He proposes a ban on "love" until everyone gets out of the dungeon safely, especially considering that he winds up having to work with both Randou and Meiko. Should the two of them continue to fight over him, things could get dire, fast.
  • Victor Gains Loser's Powers: His necromantic powers allow him to turn some of his enemies into [Corpse Dolls], and he can use their skulls like he did with Yokomich and King Oma to obtain their skills. He also took Higuchi's knife.
  • What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?: He often bemoans how useless and lackluster his [Shaman] [Vocation] is.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Whenever things start looking up for him, something comes along to take his happiness away. For example, he manages to get Randou unlock her [Geomancer] [Vocation], repairs the friendship between her and her two friends, manages to organize his party fight like a well-oiled-machine in a crisis, and he even gets a Love Confession from Randou. And then, an [Arachne] webs him up and drags him away.

Momokawa's core group

    Meiko Futaba
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/meiko_9.jpg
I am so glad you're alright, Kotaro-kun!
Momokawa's first and most loyal teammate.
  • The Ace: Of Class 2-7, along with Souma Yuuto and Tendo Ryuichi.
  • Ax-Crazy: Mei-chan can kill her enemies and make the sweetest face while destroying another girl face.
  • Bathtub Bonding: She invites Kotaro to share a bath with her, nay, she insists on it, considering how dangerous being outside a [Fairy Square] is, so he sets up a curtain between them. Much as he'd love to look upon her nude body, he'd rather not risk offending someone that can snap him in half, and whose life he depends on, thank-you-very-much.
  • The Berserker: The [Vocation] she received after going on a Roaring Rampage of Rescue, saving Kotaro from a [Goma] lynching. It greatly improves her senses, reflexes, and all her physical abilities, and allows her to use cursed weapons.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: At first. She does slim-down considerably, becoming smoking hot, as she adventures with Kotaro, but she started out chubby.
  • The Champion: Of Kotaro. She's entirely devoted to him.
  • Chef of Iron: Cooking is her passion, and she's very good at it.
  • Combat Clairvoyance: The skill [Foresight] was the first she got out of her former [Vocation], [Knight].
  • Combat Pragmatist: She may have been a former [Knight], but she cares not a whit about chivalry and honor. She will throw dust into her opponent's eyes, toss corpses, or even stab In the Back.
  • Declaration of Protection: For Kotaro.
  • Dramatic Irony: Kotaro would very, very much like to start a sexual relationship with her, but he's far too scared, rightly so, of offending her by asking for it. She would like to start one with him at least as badly, but is scared of making the first move because she feels unworthy of him.
  • Draw Aggro: One of her skills makes her yell a Battle Cry that makes all enemies in the area target her if they don't resist it.
  • Drugs Are Bad: Holy, moley, does this apply. Fleeing a swarm of [Goma] in a panic, she condemns herself for abandoning Kotaro, a classmate who consistently treated her kindly, then she snorts the [Goma]'s Fantastic Drug. Not only does she go totally berserk, awakening the [Berserker] [Vocation], but in a fugue, she bites Kotaro's throat! Fortunately, he survives with a scar and completely forgives her.
  • Evil Weapon: Her skill [Hearer of Voices] allows her to use cursed weapons, like her old butcher’s knife.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: She was called Butaba when she was fat, a wordplay between her name "Futaba" and "豚" (Pig) in Japanese.
  • Failure Knight: What she was at the beginning, which is why her companions dropped her. She swore to become a better knight after being saved by Kotaro, but she remained the same until the events that turned her into a [Berserker].
  • Fanservice Pack: Even after slimming down in the dungeon, her large bust is still growing, to the point that she has to keep her jersey almost unzipped because it's too small.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: You will never suspect she's an Ax-Crazy when she makes sweets.
  • Foreign Queasine: She's such a good cook that she finds recipes to cook some truly exotic and otherwise repulsive things, like snakes and bugs. Everyone who eats it enjoys it.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: She starts the story as a clumsy fat girl, so scared of combat, she can't bring herself to stab a lone monster that's already been crippled by someone else. One Roaring Rampage of Rescue helping Kotaro later and she's completely fearless in battle, her only concern being Kotaro's well-being.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: She never missed her target, whether it was to throw a weapon or a stone.
  • I Will Find You: Her objective after she was separated from Kotaro.
  • Healing Factor: As a [Knight], she received the skill [Blessed Body], which boosted natural-healing and give her resistance against illness. When she became a [Berserker], she got a passive skill that regenerates lost blood.
  • House Wife: She proactively does all chores and cooks for Kotaro.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: She desperately wants Kotaro to love her.
  • Lady and Knight: Gender inverted. She is Kotaro's knight.
  • Left for Dead: Badly wounded and originally The Load, her first party dumps her in a [Fairy Square] to not waste a Healing Herb they found. They leave her to bleed out, stripping her equipment right in her face, even calling her Butaba. Fortunately for her, Kotaro shows up, heals her, and she gain a few levels in badass.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: For Kotaro. She's the only one he can genuinely trust to cry on her shoulder, or into her chest.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: She uses a tower shield as big as she is.
  • Lying to Protect Your Feelings: She made Kotaro believe that Hirano and Nishiyama were already dead when she broke free. She also let Touya believe that they would save his girlfriend Saya so he could die in peace.
  • Marshmallow Hell: She loves to shove Kotaro's face into her cleavage, and she knows he likes her breasts.
  • Megaton Punch: Her [Berserker]-granted skill [Pile Bunker].
  • Metaphorically True: After the battle with the [Orthus], she tells Kotaro that Minori and Hirano are dead and let him believe the [Orthus] killed them. She neglects to mention that she callously turned her back on a pleading and begging Minori, after stealing the latter's Healing Potion.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: When she wakes up out of her fugue, she vividly remembers what she did, including the "hickie" she gave Kotaro. She was horrified by what she did and at the possibility he could abandon her. Fortunately, Kotaro forgives her, since he knew she wasn't in control, and when she sees the make-shift stretcher use made to get her to the closest [Fairy Square], she falls for him. Hard.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: As far as she's concerned, Kotaro's word is law, end of story.
  • One-Woman Army: Because of her immense strength, you'd better bring an army with you to stand a chance against her.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: If her eyes go red, that means she's in a berserk state and won't stop until either she or her target(s) of rage is dead. Only Kotaro can reign her in when she's in that state.
  • Security Cling: Ever since they reunited after Asuna's "little stunt", she grabs Kotaro in a Bear Hug whenever they take a teleport platform, so they're never separated again.
  • Serious Business: Cooking. She will drop everything to get better cooking ingredients.
  • Shield Bash: One of her skills allows her to hit enemies with a shield.
  • Shockwave Stomp: She can smash the ground so hard it sends everyone flying.
  • Sickening Sweethearts: With Kotaro. Their scenes together are nothing but sweet and touching. They are truly perfect for each other.
  • Smells Sexy: As Kotaro noticed, she has an amazing smell, perhaps a consequence of her [Vocation].
  • Statuesque Stunner: She is taller than most men and that's a part of her charm.
  • Strong Girl, Smart Guy: Her and Kotaro.
  • Stepford Smiler: After being separated from Kotaro, thanks to Asuna's impulsive treachery, she puts forward a brave front, but sneaks out of camp at night to bawl her eyes out.
  • Subordinate Excuse: Uses the fact that she's Kotaro's knight to take a bath with him.
  • The Tease: Her other passion is to sexually entice Kotaro.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: She's The Big Girl to Kotaro's tiny guy.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Kotaro, and he's earned it. Despite the fact that she was so cowardly at the start that she couldn't bring herself to use a spear to stab a monster Kotaro had already crippled, fled in a panic when a swarm of [Goma] was lynching him, only to return in a drugged-up berserker state mowing down the [Gomas] like they were papier-mache, pinning him down and biting him in the throat while in her fugue, he still rigged together a stretcher and dragged her to the next camp. She will never betray or turn on him again, and happily obeys him.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: Mess with Kotaro, and she hears of it? Better run as fast and far as you can because she's the living embodiment of righteous vengeance and Unstoppable Rage. See Kenzaki Asuna for more details.
  • Weapon Specialization: She fights with an oversized halberd.
  • Weight Woe: She was complexed by her chubbiness. Slimming down at the dungeon made her very happy.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Hotness: Thanks to her [Vocation] she has become one of the hottest girls in the class.
  • Wrong Assumption: She presumed Kotaro would be ecstatic upon learning that she beat Asuna to a pulp and won the "duel," in revenge for Asuna beating up Kotaro after she walked in on him and had the gall to be "disgusted". But Kotaro only felt disappointed that she went way too far and, since they were still in a situation where they had to work together, it only made the situation worse.
  • Yandere: Not in the traditional Clingy Jealous Girl, or Stalker with a Crush varieties, but in the Violently Protective Girlfriend manner: "I will Murder/Death/Kill anyone or anything that so much as looks at Kotaro funny the first chance I get".

     Rem
Kotaro's Familiar, made with the skill [Vile Mud Doll] and derivates.
  • Born of Magic: Rem is an artificial soul, which Kotaro can introduce in a non-living vessel.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Like her master, she uses any necessary means to secure victory.
  • Creepy Doll: Rem has a good personality, but it's no surprise that Sakura's first instinct was to destroy her.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Even though she was made with curse magic, she wouldn't harm a fly unless ordered by Kotaro, or in self-defense.
  • Do-Anything Soldier: Literally. Rem can assume all tasks like fighting, transport, doing reconnaissance... and other time-consuming tasks.
  • Emotionless Girl: Even after receiving a human body, she never expresses any emotion.
  • Flesh Golem: When built using monster materials rather than mud alone. At first, Kotaro was only able to make a black Skeleton wearing armor based on the materials used.
  • Golem: Her appearance when built using mud or red acid. She can also possess a manufactured shell like the monster called [Living Armor].
  • It Can Think: Kotaro begins to suspect she has an ego upon realizing she takes initiative and actually learns from her mistakes, unlike the mindless undead that can be found anywhere in the dungeon. Later chapters confirmed she has a soul.
  • Man Bites Man: With Masaru's body. When she was down, she bit Higuchi's leg, tearing his Achilles tendon.
  • Me's a Crowd: Rem's consciousness is spilt over all her bodies, and she can control them all simultaneously.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: An aspect of her creation is that she will obey her Master's every order without question.
  • Natural Weapon: When she takes possession of animals or monsters, she has to use their weapons: claws, tails, mantis scythes...
  • Our Homunculi Are Different: Rem's final form, after absorbing Yamata no Orochi core, is a white-haired, blue-eyed, Real Girl, and has the ability to take any forms she had in the past. This version of her is finally able to speak.
  • Perpetual-Motion Monster: She doesn't need to eat, sleep or breathe.
  • Poisonous Person: When made using [Rotten Bog] acid, or when using the body of a venomous monster.
  • Possessing a Dead Body: She can take possession of a corpse directly, either human, animal, or monster.
  • Resurrective Immortality: As long as Kotaro is alive, it is impossible to kill Rem permanently since he is her living Soul Jar. Kotaro just has to find or fashion her a new body and it's good to go.
  • Sliding Scale of Undead Regeneration: Case 2, her bodies don't rot but don't heal either, except if Kotaro repairs them with new materials. This does not apply to her main body which can regenerate with mana, making her a Case 4.
  • The Speechless: She's able to communicate to some extend with hand gestures and simple sounds, but she's not able to speech.

Nishiyama Minori, Hirano Kouhei, and Itou Seiji

The second party Kotaro encounters.

     Hirano Kouhei
  • Abomination Accusation Attack: When Kotaro attempts to lead everyone out of the [Orthus]' boss room, as it was quite different from what had been described, and the [Orthus] blasts the exit shut with a Breath Weapon, Hirano angrily accuses Kotaro of trying to flee and leave the others trapped with the monster.
  • Combat Clairvoyance: He received the skill [Foresight].
  • Cool Sword: He received the [Vocation] [Swordsman] and found a real sword in a treasure box.
  • Death by Pragmatism: After the [Orthus] locks Meiko and hurts Hirano, Kotaro manages to distract it with [Blackhair Bind], only to become its target. Then Hirano orders Minori to hit the [Orthus] and Kotaro, pinned beneath it, with her strongest AOE attack. She complies, hurting the beast, but at the price of mortally wounding Kotaro, and herself since she had forgot his [Pain Return]. Finally, having lost a lot of blood Hirano. Finally he was Left for Dead by Meiko This leads to Meiko after she realizes he and Minori betrayed Kotaro.

     Nishiyama Minori
  • Blow You Away: She got the [Vocation] [Aeromancer].
  • Left for Dead: She gets gravely injured when using her strongest attack on [Orthus] which hit Kotaro and backfires on her due to his [Pain Return]. Meiko, seeing the aftermath, takes her Healing Potion and leaves her to her death.
  • Please, I Will Do Anything!: She begged, pleaded, and promised to do anything Meiko wanted if she was healed with her potion. Meiko, uninterested in helping someone who betrayed Kotaro, took the healing potion and [Orthus]' core, and then used the teleport platform to transport the unconscious Kotaro to safety.
  • Shoot the Hostage: She attacked the [Orthus] with a powerful AOE attack even though Kotaro would also be hit. Kotaro agrees that it was a logical move, given that Hirano and Nishiyama had lost their trust in him.

     Itou Seiji
  • Alone Among the Couples: Hirano and Nishiyama were a couple.
  • Killed Offscreen: He was killed by a big [Red Dog] boss just before Kotaro and Meiko found the party. [Red Dog] proceeded to eat him and evolved into an [Orthus].
  • The Sneaky Guy: He received the [Vocation] [Thief]. He was the one that found Minori's wand and the healing potion they had.

The Worst Harem Party:

A group of students formed by Souma Yuuto and several girls, most of which are interested in Yuuto.

     As a whole
  • Battle Harem: Apart Ryouko, all the girls have feelings for The Hero.
  • Dysfunction Junction: Their [Vocation]s and skills are top-notch and have great synergy, but the girls themselves have many flaws that become more and more apparent as the story progresses.
  • Does Not Like Men: They look at all men with nothing but disgust and suspicion, Yuuto and his friends being the exception.
  • Moral Myopia: They one-sidedly dump all their disgust and suspicions on Kotaro and Meiko, thinking he's using some kind of compulsion to have Meiko follow him, and treat him like utter shit, even placing all the blame on him when things fall apart.
  • School Idol: They are, along with Reina Ayase and Tendo Ryuichi, the The Beautiful Elite of Shiramine Private Academy, and a source of jealousy and respect for everyone.
  • Slobs vs. Snobs: The girls from a privileged family background are fond of looking on those who aren't, especially Asuna and Sakura.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: There's a reason they're called "Worst Harem Party" in the chapters where they and Kotaro were working together. It gets thoroughly deconstructed as the party falls completely apart because they balk and backbite every single one of his tactical decisions, and realized later, to their chagrin, he was right!

     Souma Yuuto
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuuto.jpg
I will protect her...
One of the top students when Class 2-7 was still in Japan.
  • The Ace: Of the class 2-7, along with Futaba Meiko and Tendo Ryuichi.
  • Always Save the Girl: He will drop everything, including his own self-preservation, to rescue a girl, like a Knight in Shining Armor. Back in Japan, he was Class 2-7's hero, as he kept helping the class beauties when they were harassed or assaulted by the delinquents of "Black High". Gets deconstructed in the dungeon, because it makes him push himself way too hard, and he also develops a dangerous Double Standard splitting his party members from anyone else they come into conflict with.
  • Big Damn Heroes: He pulls this off several times. He saves his sister from an [Armor Bear], protects Asuna and Kotori when they are attacked by a [Goma] wielding a [Cursed Weapon], arrives just in time to help his party in the [Insect Cave]...
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Whenever he hears of someone in distress, he must rush in to save them, with rare exceptions.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Both on Earth and in this new world women tend to swarm him, but he's so completely clueless that he doesn't even notice the romantic overtures of his own harem.
  • Crutch Character: He becomes this to his party as he attempts to shoulder the major bulk of his party's problems, causing the party to stagnate.
  • Declaration of Protection: He swore to protect "everyone" and especially his friends, sister and Meiko.
  • The Engineer: He learned the [Basic Remodeling], which allow to craft and repair simple items.
  • Hero Antagonist: In just about any other work, he'd be a fine heroic protagonist. In this story, you can ask who is the True Hero between him and Kotaro and the fact he coddles Asuna, leaving her completely unpunished for an act of attempted murder he himself witnessed, while swearing murderous vengeance on Kotaro for killing Reina, without trying to know why he did that make him a hypocrite.
  • Heroes Fight Barehanded: He was already a good fighter before coming in this world. As a [Hero] he learns several [Martial Arts] and got his own [Souma-Style Unarmed Combat Arts].
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Yuuto has a clear preference for swords, he was in the Kendo Club at school, like Kenzaki Asuna.
  • Heroic Spirit: He seems to become stronger each time he falls into despair, such as when he thought his sister was killed by the Cerberus, or when Asuna was about to be killed by Orochi.
  • Hypocrite: He stops Meiko from beating the hell out of Asuna after the latter pushed Kotaro off the teleport circle, even though she knew it could get him killed, insisting on trying to resolve the problem peacefully. When he finds Kotaro over Reina's dead body, he immediately tried to kill Kotaro, would have if Meiko didn't stopped him, and [[Blind Justice and absolutely refused to hear his side of the story.
    • Hypocrisy Nod: Once he had a chance to cool down, he remembers how he let Asuna go completely unpunished for trying to murder Kotaro. This does not sway him from his self-righteous quest of hunting down Kotaro to kill him.
  • Ideal Hero: He has the traits most people idolize in heroes... at least until things stop going his way.
  • It's All My Fault: He blames himself for every tragedy that befalls those around him. Much as he hates Kotaro for Reina's death, he hates himself more because he teleported in just after she died. In his perspective all tragedies are because he's not strong enough. He take the major bulk of the party's problems on himself, this causes the rest of the party to stagnate and suffer, while he laments: "I have to become stronger.".
  • Knightly Sword and Shield: The first skill he received as a [Hero] is [Cross Calibur] which infuse his sword with the power of light. During the fight against Orochi, because Asuna was about to die, he awake a new power, [Heavenly Star Shield] a shield of hard light that appear on his left arm and can absorb magic it take to restore his magical power.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: An aspect of his [Hero] [Vocation] causes him to manifest the right skill for whatever trouble he's facing.
  • Oblivious to Love: He can't possibly comprehend why Meiko is devoted to Kotaro, or realize the feelings of the girls around him.
  • The One Guy: He's the only guy in a party full of girls.
  • One-Man Army: He's able to take alone a large number of monsters with the power of the [Hero], as he proves when he saves his party when they are outnumbered in the [Insect Cave].
  • Person of Holding: He can store weapons in an extra-dimensional storage space. The definition of "weapon" also includes things like potions...
  • Psychic Radar: He has the ability to detect traps in his surroundings.
  • Real Men Don't Cry: Deconstructed. He tries to keep everything bottled up, even as the guilt piles on him. Minami and Sakura pick up on it: the former is willing to let him cry on her shoulder, but Sakura shuts her down, because she believes she's the only one allowed to comfort her "nii-san".
  • Selective Obliviousness: He can't bring himself to believe Meiko has more than ample rational reason to choose Kotaro over himself, even considering the fact that the following list is hardly exhaustive:
    • He knows that Minami and Ryouko found Meiko when she was badly hurt and helpless, and not only denied her medical aid, but also stripped her of her equipment and even insulted her before leaving her for dead. Contrast with Kotaro, who not only saved her life, he also forgave her after she painfully bit into his neck, swore a vow to never abandon her, and has consistently treated her kindly, regardless of the situation.
    • When Asuna pushed Kotaro off the teleport platform, even though they were about to be surrounded by monsters, and she still placed the blame for her actions on Kotaro, he ignored it all and let her go completely unpunished.
    • He's seen Meiko sneak out of camp in the middle of the night to cry herself silly because the man she loves is missing.
    • He knows his party is only going through the motions to try and find Kotaro, to keep Meiko from lashing out. In fact, some of them certainly hoped they would never find him.
  • Skilled, but Naive: He's Strong and Skilled, has very powerful abilities granted by his [Vocation] including New Powers as the Plot Demands, and Victor Gains Loser's Powers, but he's so brave and genuinely heroic that he has trouble fathoming the more sinister aspects of human nature. Especially when it comes from his own haremettes who are "lovey-dovey" around him, but are sadistic bitches to others. He believes in Females Are More Innocent, that's why he never blames them.
  • Stock Light-Novel Hero: An invoked subversion. The author Q&A chapters repeatedly reveal that he's got all the lovely "protagonist" powers and circumstances for a harem-based Isekai, except the main character is Kotaro.
  • The Victim Must Be Confused: Since he has deluded himself into believing that there is no sufficiently rational reason for Meiko to choose Kotaro over himself, and he's seen Kotaro use Reina's corpse as a hostage, he concludes that one of Kotaro's curses must be compelling her to serve him. He refuses to acknowledge his hypocrisy, though he does recognize it, in protecting the very people who wronged both Meiko and Kotaro, while condemning Kotaro to death under similar circumstances and refusing to hear his side of the story.
  • Training from Hell: By his grandfather.
  • Victor Gains Loser's Powers: His [Hero] [Vocation] comes with the ability to gain new skills and powers from the defeated enemies. After he kills them, their corpses turn into light and are absorbed into his body, allowing him to get new arts, skills and a White Magic version of their powers. The process leaves parts that can be use to make weapons. He can only obtain combat-related powers this way.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: He didn't sanctioned Asuna when she pushed Kotaro off the teleport circle, yet he tried to kill him immediately when he found him near Reina corpse, refusing to hear his side of story.

     Souma Sakura
Yuuto's twin sister.
  • Barrier Warrior: She has a self-defense barrier called [Oracle Heavenly Field].
  • Big Brother Attraction: Even on Earth, when the two interacted, everyone around them saw a "pink space" event going on. They may not be blood-related siblings.
  • Combat Medic: Her [Vocation] [Saintess] grants her healing, purification, and light-element magic.
  • Dude Magnet: She's the reason why they're so many guys in the Archery Club.
  • Fatal Flaw: Despite the name of her [Vocation] she has a few of them: Paranoia; Hysteria; Stubborness; Selfishness, for herself and her group that's why she's a total bitch to everyone except her brother and the people he's sweet on; Sense of superiority, she loves to lord over others how they are better, more honest, moral, praiseworthy...
  • Hero-Worshipper: She believes in her brother, "he would come and save us, any time and any place", to precise she said that after Kotori unsuccessfully tried to call him in the [Insect Cave].
  • Inspector Javert: In her perspective Meiko loyalty to Kotaro can't be anything but some kind of mind-control.
  • Lawful Stupid/Stupid Good: She believes she has to be the group leader, but doesn't understand that it means she has a responsibility to protect her party from danger. When faced with a guy that has openly declared his intention to rape and eat her and her friends, she only drives him away and prevents others from killing him, because "killing is bad". Never mind that not only will that guy return stronger and more determined to kill her and her friends, he is still a danger to everyone else. In spite of everything, she has yet to understand that they are in a place where the only rights they have are those they can protect with force.
  • The Fundamentalist: She's always "right", unable to put herself in question, or consider the opinions of others. She's suspicious of Kotaro because of his job, eager to see him as scum and will clamp down on him for the smallest offense, real or imagined. In fact, she happily agreed with Asuna's desire to beat him to a pulp for the crime of masturbating. When they discover he killed Reina she proclaimed he's evil and "killing is his nature".
  • The Millstone: When she and her fellow haremettes were temporarily allied with Meiko and Kotaro, they all encounter Yokomichi Hajime who has gained the [Cannibal] [Vocation] and was looking at them like a starving man stares at an all you can eat buffet. Kotaro does a lot of sucking up to get him off guard and stand down, so they might be able to deal with him using a clever sneak-attack. Sakura completely screws Kotaro's efforts over by firing a warning shot at Hajime's feet, opening the hostility, and completely throwing the element of surprise. Then she actively hold her undecided teammates from helping Kotaro and Meiko, yelling that murder is wrong, Kotaro openly answers her "Shut it, Bitch! It's your fault we're in this mess!". As a result she endangered everyone and allow the human-turned-monster to get away, which winds up killing who knows how many other innocent classmates.
  • Sacred Bow and Arrows She fights with a bow called [Oriental Bow of the Saintess] and has Nationals-tier talent in Archery.
  • Spell Blade: She has the ability to enchant weapons with light and purification magic.

    Kenzaki Asuna
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/asuna_0.jpg
Ever since we met Kotaro, everything's gone strange!!
  • All Amazons Want Hercules: She decided to marry Souma Yuuto, after he defeated her in a match.
"Now that you’ve beaten me, I’ll accept you as my fiance."
  • Blaming the Victim: When Kisaragi calls her out for attempting to murder Kotaro by shoving him off the teleport platform after it activated, knowing a swarm of monsters was headed to the area, she retorts "It's all his fault! After he joined the group, everything turned strange!" This does not help her case.
  • Bullying a Dragon: She knows Meiko is a [Berserker] and was angry because she beat up Kotaro for the "crime" of masturbating. Asuna goes and threatens Meiko with a sword and challenges her to a fight. While she lives to regret her idea, she doesn't learn the lesson.
  • Combat Clairvoyance: She received the skill [Foresight].
  • Did Not Think This Through: In an impulsive fit of pique, she shoves Kotaro off the teleport platform after it activates, stranding him in an area just the other side of a tunnel that a swarm of killer monsters is digging through, which all the characters equate to shoving a man in front of a rapidly approaching train. This is bad enough, but she does it right in front of Meiko, who will certainly retaliate with lethal force, as she learned first-hand when she foolishly challenged the latter to a duel and was beaten within an inch of her life.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: She beats the hell out of Kotaro for masturbating.
  • Dual Wielding: Invoked. While she's powerful with a single sword, her [Dual Swordsman] [Vocation] makes her more dangerous with one in each hand, she uses katanas.
  • Honor Before Reason: Invoked. Her family life was very strict and rigid, and she was raised to honor any promise she makes, regardless. She once had a friendly duel with Yuuto, and after a narrow victory in his favor, she has to go marry him.
  • Knight Templar: Her way of life is the only "right" way to live, no exceptions, and if you're not strong enough to resist her, she honestly believes she has the right to beat you to a pulp for failing to comply. After she tries it with Meiko, she learns the horror Kotaro felt as she's on the wrong end of a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown.
  • Master Swordsman: She's the daughter of the Kenzaki Clan, widely known for their swordsmanship, who harshly trained her since she was able to hold a weapon and has participated in multiple fights. Even Yuuto considers her stronger than him in this field.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: For a split second after she pushed Kotaro off the platform, she looks at her hands in horror as she realizes what she's done. This does not save her from Meiko's wrath.
  • Never My Fault: She tried to blame Kotaro for her actions, accusing him of having brainwashing powers, even if Kotori had confirmed he has no such ability.
  • Raised as the Opposite Gender: She was raised as a boy by her Clan.
  • Revenge Myopia: Combined with Revenge by Proxy. Even if it was a subconscious act, she pushed Kotaro off the platform in revenge for getting a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown from Meiko, as a result of a duel she herself demanded, resulting from trying to give Kotaro a beatdown for the "crime" of masturbating, which she witnessed only because she was peeping on him in the first place.
  • Trauma Button: And its name is Meiko Futaba. After the above mentioned Didn't Think This Through, she spends every night curled up in Yuuto's bed, knowing that, if they come across Kotaro and he isn't alive and well, Meiko will exact retaliation on the responsible party. And Meiko won't hold back.
  • Ungrateful Bitch: It doesn't matter how many times Kotaro helps her and her friends, she's always too ready to attack him. The biggest moment being when, after he saves her from certain death at the claws of multiple monsters, she shoves him out of the teleport platform and into near-certain death the moment she was safe.
  • What Were You Thinking?: Twice!
    • She demands a duel with Meiko, no referee, no witnesses, in the middle of the night, with the only agreed upon rule being that neither she nor Meiko would kill each other. Meiko doesn't accept her surrender or loss until she's beaten unconscious and to an inch from her life. The only reason she doesn't have permanent physical scars being that Kotaro came to her aid.
    • When she pushes Kotaro off the teleport platform after it activates, leaving him stranded in a near-certain death scenario, right in front of Meiko, Kisaragi Ryouko lampshades the trope, with multiple Dope Slaps, yelling "why did you do that?! WHY!! Why would you do such a thing?!"
  • With Us or Against Us: Like Sakura, she doesn't trust anyone outside her group, especially after what happened with the Totem Pole Trio.

     Kisaragi Ryouko / Class Rep
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kisaragi_3.jpg
Honestly, Tendo, stop trying to skip class and smoke!
Class 2-7's representative.
  • Ambadassador: She's the one that prevents Meiko from ripping Asuna apart after the latter pushed Kotaro out of the teleport platform. She slapped Asuna herself several times to calm the Meiko, knowing figthing her would have a huge cost, she manages to buy temporary cooperation with tears.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: After she's done slapping some sense into Asuna, she asks "how do you plan to atone for this?" referring to the fact that she attempted murder by pushing Kotaro off the teleportation platform after it activated, leaving him trapped in a place with swarming monsters soon to show up.
  • The Atoner: She deeply regrets abandoning Meiko Futaba and does her best to make it right, both because it's morally correct and because Meiko's become much, much stronger than her and could literally pound her to a pulp if she chooses to retaliate.
  • Being Good Sucks: All her efforts at keeping whatever party she gets stuck in on the same page and working together smoothly go wrong and blow up in her face, and none of it is her fault.
  • Class Representative: She was elected to represent the girls' side of class 2-7.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Everyone refers her as "Class Rep".
  • His Story Repeats Itself: She keeps getting shoved into leadership roles, has to make a tough decision, goes with the most logical, viable, and sound route, and it turns around to bite her.
  • An Ice Person: Is granted ice powers as a result of her [Vocation].
  • Only Sane Man: She's the only one in the party who realizes, and is willing to call out, the party for their hypocrisy, injustice, and everything else that's destined to not turn everyone else on them.
  • Reluctant Ruler: Since she was the girls' class representative, she keeps getting shoved into leadership roles in whatever party she finds herself, unless said party already has a leader, and she hates it.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Wears glasses and is one of the smartest students in class 2-7.
  • Stylish Protection Gear: She has a white cape with the ability to automatically deploy ice defensive magic.

    Natsukawa Minami
The Thief of the party.
  • Book Dumb: Fortunately, she had Ryouko to help her.
  • Chainmail Bikini: She got a magic swimming suit that works as armor only when worn by a Thief.
  • Combat Clairvoyance: She received the skill [Foresight].
  • Cosmic Plaything: Every time Kotori fashions her equipment, the involved entity puts in shady flavor text that makes Minami cry.
  • Devious Daggers: Specializes in knives, like all thieves to date.
  • Elemental Weapon: She eventually gets a water whip. It suits her well, even if she'd rather forget the whip's flavor text.
  • Fragile Speedster: At school, she was a hardcore runner and The Ace of Shiramine Academy Track and Field Club, who took them all the way to the nationals. In this world, she happily received the skill [Quick Step] which makes her even faster and can be use in fight.
  • Lovable Rogue: She insists that she's not a "bad thief".
  • Lured into a Trap: In the [Palace Zone]. She was confident because her ability told her there were no traps in the treasure room, and it was technically true: when she opened the door, she was attacked by a bunch of monsters waiting inside.
  • Plucky Girl: She is full of energy and her optimistic nature encourages others. She always does dangerous jobs like scouting the boss room without complaints.
  • Poisoned Weapons: She uses poisoned weapons when needed.
  • The Sneaky Gal: Being a [Thief], she has a sixth sense that allows her to sense danger and the position of treasures and traps in her surrounding. Her ability to detect presence is also better than other [Vocation]s.
  • Stealth Expert: Natsukawa has the ability to hide her presence and aim for vitals.
  • Sweet Tooth: She loves sweets.

    Takanashi Kotori
The one responsible for equipping the party.

Higuchi's Party:

     Higuchi Kyouya
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/higuchi.jpg
Oi! Piggi, beat him up for me until he cries!
One of the most notorious bullies and delinquents of Class 2-7.
  • Abusive Parents: His father beat him half-to-death for the "crime" of being accused of shoplifting, despite there being no proof. Granted, Higuchi shoplifted every time he could get away with it, just for the thrill of it, and never got caught; it's still jarring to get beat up for being accused of it.
  • The Bully: Beats up people, both to enforce his will and for kicks, but doesn't go after those he knows can fight back and beat him.
  • Devious Daggers: Even on Earth, he always carried a butterfly knife.
  • Didn't See That Coming: He thought he had won after cutting Rem/Masaru's neck, he didn't expect the doll to have a mantis scythe.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: There is one person he was genuinely kind to, his girlfriend, who died before he did, out of his sight.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Amazingly, he doesn't go out screeching, howling, demanding vengeance, nor does he go out weeping, begging, and pathetically whimpering. He sighs, resigned to the inevitable and goes quietly.
  • For the Evulz: He never had a reason to be a shoplifter, delinquent, thug, or bully. He just enjoyed doing it, and this new world only made it worse.
  • I Control My Minions Through...: Whatever means are available. He got the loyalty of the Totem Pole Trio through fencing stolen goods and hooking them up with prostitutes, and in this new world maintains his strangle-hold through fear, murder, and sucking up to Reina.
  • If You Kill Him, You Will Be Just Like Him!: When Kotaro turns the tables and makes to kill him, Higuchi states that Kotaro will just turn into another him if he does the deed. This doesn't stay Kotaro's hand, because he's well aware Higuchi will literally stab him In the Back if he's merciful, and he also intends to avenge his best friend Masuru, whom Higuchi treated as a slave and then killed.
  • It Runs in the Family: He's a kleptomaniac and so is his father before him.
  • It's All About Me: All he cares about is his pleasure and well-being. Anyone he has to trample to get it? Sucks to be them.
  • Japanese Delinquents: Fits him to a T, from the dyed and ruffian cut that is his hair to the piercings and thuggery of his loathsome behavior.
  • Last Request: He begs Kotaro to give his knife to his girlfriend. Kotaro retorts that it's impossible, since the poor girl is already dead.
  • Moral Myopia: He's arguably among the worst kind of bully. He threatens, harasses, provokes, taunts, steals from, and attacks his victims, trying to get them to take a swing at him, and when they fight back screeches "self-defense" at them as he tries to kill them. In this new world, he adds murder, attempted murder, Sexual Extortion, and outright rape, and then retaliates with lethal force when he's attacked or his intended prey dares defend itself.
  • Ninja Looting: His first appearance in this new world is having his "slave" steal the magic core of the [Armor Bear] Kotaro narrowly beat, and then beat up on Kotaro a bit, just for kicks.
  • Sexual Extortion: On at least two occasions, he commands girls to have sex with him in return for their lives. The first, he follows through and uses a potion to heal her, but then she winds up dead anyway when one of her friends attacks him to try and rescue her. The second time, he promises to spare her life if she agrees to sex, but kills her anyways when he's done.
  • The Sneaky Guy: Being a [Thief] gives him a sixth sense that can sense danger and the position of treasures and traps in his surroundings, his ability to detect presence is also better than that of others.
  • Villains Want Mercy: When he finds himself on the receiving end of lethal peril, Kotaro towering over him, he tries all sorts of pleas and begging to Kotaro's better nature. They all fall on deaf ears.

    Reina Adelhide Ayase
One of Yuuto's love interests that winds up stuck with Higuchi.
  • Ambiguous Innocence: Yuuto once flashbacks to the day he met her in kindergarten. During recess, he found her with a little clique of "knights" while she monopolized the slide playset - just to sit there and admire her own sense of superiority. Yuuto fought his way through the knights, climbed up the playset, and told her off for not sharing something that should be available to everyone. She answered by shoving him off the playset, causing him to crack his skull when hitting the ground. Surprisingly, he looks back on this memory fondly.
  • Attack Backfire: When Kotaro corners her after her umpteenth attempt to murder him, she awakens an ability that repels any hostile act, which she uses on Kotaro while screaming that she hates him and wishes he were dead. Kotaro goes so mind-numbingly angry that he blacks out and wakes up atop of her with his knife on her heart.
  • But Not Too Foreign: Is at least half-European in origin.
  • Dude Magnet: She's got many boys eating out of her hands. Higuchi, Kotaro, and Yamajun are among the few exceptions.
  • Dumb Blonde: She personifies the trope.
  • Entitled Bitch: Things must always go her way. If they don't, she will unleash her [Guardian Beasts]. In addition, she refuses to put forth any effort to help her supposed teammates, only using her spirits for her own protection, yet expects and demands the best treatment for herself at all times.
  • Entitled to Have You: To Souma Yuuto. No one is allowed to get in her way.
  • Guardian Entity: Her [Vocation] [Spirits' Master] allows her to make a contract with spiritual [Guardian Beasts], who fight for her. She has four of them, each based on fire, lightning, Holy Water, and wind.
  • Innocently Insensitive: She acts like an adorable, pampered princess, but she doesn't care about anyone, except herself and Souma Yuuto. She is so spoiled that she will betray her allies the moment it's convenient for her and genuinely doesn't understand what she did wrong.
  • I Reject Your Reality: The only things she sees as "real" are things that benefit her. Attempting to say otherwise is "bullying".
  • Murder by Inaction: She believes she's done nothing wrong because she does nothing to stop her [Guardian Beasts] when they unleash deadly force on others, and abjectly refuses to understand why others call her out on it, thinking of them as just bullies who are mean to her for no reason.
  • Ninja Looting: After a hard fight, Kotaro manages to beat Higuchi and shoves the delinquent into his own [Human Sacrifice] trap to activate the Dungeon Bypass. As Kotaro is struggling to reach the magic circle, she sics her fire spirit on him, beats him up so he can't move, and then uses the portal herself.
  • Obliviously Evil: Chapter 136 reveals that she honestly never believes she's doing anything wrong... because she is as childish as she looks.
  • Prefers the Illusion: She refused to believe her teammates when they told her that what she sees as Souma Yuuto is a fake.
  • Prone to Tears: Reina cries at anything, when she's afraid or sad - but not when it doesn't affect her.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: She doesn't just look like a middle-schooler, she thinks like one, and can't understand how her selfish actions hurt others. If her whims and tantrums are denied, she's downright murderous, as she attempts to kill Kotaro without a second thought, on a repeated basis, resulting in the murder of Yamajun. Kotaro swears to kill her as a direct result.
  • Reforged into a Minion: Kotaro uses her corpse as a hostage to force Yuuto to let him escape. Unfortunately, her body turns to ashes when he cancels the curse, so Yuuto is unable to bury her.
  • Spoiled Brat: The truth of her character. She's accustomed to being pampered and doesn't take it well when she's told "no".
  • Squishy Wizard: Without her [Guardian Beasts], she's just a helpless little girl who thinks way, way too highly of herself, thanks to being spoiled rotten and being sheltered from the consequences of her actions for way, way too long.
  • The Millstone: And completely antagonistic about it. She is so entitled that she will openly destroy the efforts of her party if they don't meet her sense of aesthetics. In fact, after Kotaro rescues her current party from a swarm of [Goma], she "gets scared" and attacks Rem #1 and #2, composed of materials he can't easily replace, ignored her teammates as they begged her to stop, patted her spirits for a job well done, and nearly kills Kotaro himself when he objects. It's so bad, she will attack any Rem he makes, even though they need all the help they can get to get to the nearest transfer circle, and still refuses to offer any assistance in the assault on the [Goma] fortress the party has to go through...
  • The Prima Donna: She has to be worshipped. If she's not, she gets pouty and recalcitrant, at best. Or let her [Guardian Beasts] become murderously violent, at worst.
  • Tough Love: On the receiving end from Kotaro, though he rightly doesn't care if she lives or dies, after everything she's done to him. Unfortunately for her, she learns nothing from it, and goes right back to being murderous the moment she gains the upper hand and decides she doesn't need Kotaro or the Totem Pole Trio anymore.
Kotaro: Like the spider-silk hammock, scrumptious meals, and heated baths I provide? Good, now they come with a price, either get off your lazy butt and help us conquer the [Goma] fortress we need to conquer in order to proceed, or enjoy sleeping on the grass, eating nuts and berries you pick yourself, and bathing in the river. Oh, Yamada, don't break the rules and share your food with her, those who don't work, don't eat.
  • Time Stands Still: Her ability [Words of Reject], allow her to slow anything that go against her when she said something that mean stop.
  • Ungrateful Bitch: It doesn't matter what people do for her, she'll stab you in the back the moment she thinks it's convenient and will never do anything for you.
  • Villains Want Mercy: When Kotaro manages to turn the tables, and have her on the receiving end of lethal force, she spends every last moment pleading for mercy and begging for her life, insisting she's done nothing wrong, and not understanding why Kotaro is angry, after she's tried to kill him repeatedly, and murdered Yamajun.

     Saitou Masaru
Back on Earth, he was Kotaro's best friend. In this new world, he has the distinct displeasure of being Higuchi's "slave".
  • Big Fun: Overweight, but a good, decent guy and fun to be around, back in Japan. In this new world, he's forced to do heinous things, under threat to his life by Higuchi.
  • Fat Best Friend: To Kotaro.
  • Forced into Evil: Under threat to his own life, he's forced to beat up Kotaro by Higuchi.
  • Forgiveness Requires Death: He died protecting Kotaro from Higuchi to atone for betraying Kotaro near the start of the story.
  • Made a Slave: A flashback shows Higuchi pinning him down and saying "become my slave, or die".
  • Miles Gloriosus: Back in Japan, he loved to boast how he was at least a good fighter, and had he been anywhere nearby when Yuuto and Tendo beat up delinquents in protection of a girl in distress, he'd have beat up them too, so he can't fathom why Yuuto's a Chick Magnet. In the dungeon, he's so pathetic, he gets steamrolled by just about anything, despite his [Warrior] [Vocation]. Kotaro himself noted how he struggled to beat two skeletons, barely able to defeat them by using a bunch of his [Martial Arts]. This is why he winds up under Higuchi's thumb.
  • No Body Left Behind: After the battle with Higuchi was over, his corpse turns to a pile of ash.
  • Reforged into a Minion: Having no other options, Kotaro uses his corpse as a conduit to reforge Rem and continue the fight with Higuchi.

Tendo's Harem Party:

    Tendo Ryuichi
One of the two top athletic students in class 2-7.
  • The Ace: Of Class 2-7, along with Souma Yuuto and Futaba Meiko.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Tendo is close to have all kind of abilities, not only because he can absorb skills by eating, but also because his own [King] [Vocation] gave him a lot.
  • Aloof Ally: He helps people in need, but according to him it's not because he was interested, he was simply passing.
  • Blood Knight: He has only three things he's interested in, a good fight, a good smoke, and a good meal. A good fight takes precedence over everything else.
  • Cannibalism Superpower: His skill [Law of the Jungle] allows him to gain new powers from what he eats. He doesn't have to eat that much either, just a pinkie bone or a sip of blood will do...
  • Challenge Seeker: He chose to fight a lizardman boss underwater to give him a chance, he let Yokomichi alive so he could become stronger and challenge him again...
  • Chick Magnet: Like his friend Yuuto, he attracts girls without even trying.
  • Cool Sword: His favorite weapon is a giant Flaming Sword.
  • Dragon Rider: He became the master of a black and gold dragon he named Liberty.
  • French Maid: His perverse maid Momoko, who resembles Kotaro. Tendo claims it's only because he admires Kotaro's leadership abilities.
  • Good Is Not Nice: He's aloof and acerbic, but has a strong moral compass and protects innocents.
  • Good Smoking, Evil Smoking/Smoking Is Cool: He's a chain-smoking delinquent, but he's a good and noble man.
  • Heroic Neutral: He won't let someone be killed in front of him if he can do something about it, but that's the best you can get from him.
  • Hyperspace Arsenal: His [King] [Vocation] includes a massive extra-dimensional storage space.
  • Instant Armor: His skill [King's Armor] can materialize an armor on him, but so far it only covers parts of his body. The right arm increases his attacking power, and he later unlock the left arm that can reflect part of the damage it takes.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: He rushes into battle without a plan, preparation, and preferably without backup. He's so Strong and Skilled that this serves him just fine.
  • Master of All: He is the best in every field.
  • One-Man Army: Tendo can single-handedly defeat a lot of monsters in a blink of eyes, as he proves many times.
  • One-Man Party: He's so strong and has so many abilities he doesn't need teammates, he's even able to craft weapons himself.
  • Poisonous Person: By eating poisonous monsters he gains their ability to produce poison, but he's so strong that he doesn't need it.
  • Royalty Superpower: As a [King], Tendo received several [Inheritence Skill]s in addition to the skills he gains from eating.
  • Serious Business: Cigarettes. He traded all his monster loot to Kotaro for a pack of lucky seven cigarettes.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: When he and Yuuto meet and he learns Kotaro killed Reina, he tells Yuuto not to bitch about it, because he knows Kotaro and Reina and that the former had to have very good reasons to do it. Then, Kotaro appears, and Tendo punches Yuuto hard enough to lay him down flat when Yuuto tries to attack Kotaro, forcing him to admit the reason for his actions is emotional.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Thanks to Kotaro's influence, he becomes much nicer to his harem.
  • Ultimate Blacksmith: His skills [King's Swords] and [King's Alchemist] allow him to make Elemental Weapons and all sorts of things, like Randou's gun-shaped wand.
  • Unknown Item Identification: Like Kotaro, he has the ability to appraise ingredients, and he's even able to find the recipe of his medicines just by seeing them.
  • Unwanted Harem: He doesn't appreciate being followed around by Maria and Julia, but he lets them since they're good women, and he doesn't really have a choice. As the author explained, he's not interested in having a Harem: he has a crush on Randou.
  • Water Is Air: He can breathe underwater.

What is with that Tendo? Can't he reciprocate, just a little?!
The two girls trying to secure Tendo's affection, without success, to his annoyance.
  • Action Girl: Both are tough ladies, Nonomiya received the [Vocation] [Knight] while Yoshizaki is a [Warrior].
  • All Amazons Want Hercules: They fall for Tendo Ryuichi because:
    "He's so frickin’ badass."
  • Combat Clairvoyance: As a [Knight], Julia has the skill [Foresight].
  • The Dividual: In most scenes, they appear together, except when Kotaro uses "training Randou" as a perfect excuse to have them take turns being one on one with Tendo.
  • Hopeless Suitor: They like Tendo and are desperate for his affection. He's completely uninterested, and annoyed at them tag-teaming him.
  • Took a Level in Idealism: After seeing Kotaro snatched away by an [Arachne], they comfort Randou by telling her that he will find a way to get back alive.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: When Kotaro first joined the party, they looked upon him with disdain. After Kotaro got Randou to unlock her combat potential, making her an asset, rather than a liability, and is directly responsible for repairing their fractured friendship, they've become nicer to him, even following his orders without hesitation, and working together like a well-oiled machine.
  • True Companions: They and Randou are best-friends-forever, even though their relationship was strained by Randou being The Load until Kotaro fixed that.

    Randou Kyouko
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/randou.jpg
You, stink, Kotaro-kun! Take off those clothes! What? Don't worry, you haven't got anything I haven't seen before on my little brothers...
A girl in Tendo's party who takes pity on Kotaro and invites him to join.
  • Actually Pretty Funny: When she hears how Asuna pushed Kotaro off the teleport platform after it activated, she doubles over laughing herself to tears, without malice. Kotaro realizes that he would find it hilarious too, if it hadn't put his life in danger at the time.
  • Birds of a Feather: She and Kotaro have so much in common, what they bond over most is bitching over Sakura's stuck-up nature.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: She starts off being completely unable to defeat monsters, due to having no combat ability among her starter skills, and her structures are slow to build, but one spike trap zombie skewer later and she's a real powerhouse.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: She's a [Geomancer] who moves dirt and stone.
  • The Ditz: She's actually pretty smart, but she misses most social clues and tends to be a bit air-headed.
  • Excellent Judge of Character: While she seems aloof, she's good in reading peoples.
  • First Kiss: To Kotaro.
  • The Gadfly: She's quite fond of dragging Kotaro into drag, just to get a strong reaction from him... That, and the fact that she genuinely finds his androgynous form cute and likes to doll him up.
  • Ignorant of His Own Ignorance: From the other end. She didn't even know the concept of "mana" because she's got a mana pool so massive, using her abilities hundreds of times a day didn't bother her a bit.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: Sometimes meshing with Shameless Fanservice Girl. She's fond of giving Kotaro Marshmallow Hell and showing off her leopard-print panties, not realizing how it affects him, until long after she's done it, then just smiles and laughs about it.
  • The Lady's Favor: When she realizes Rem can track down Kotaro, she gives the golem her leopard print panties so Kotaro would return them when they met again.
  • Like Brother and Sister: At first, she treated Kotaro as if he was one of her younger brothers. This changes after he, Maria, Julia, and herself fend off a Zerg Rush of monsters while Tendo's busy fighting the boss monster.
  • Love Confession: After the battle of the [Underground Lake], she admits that she likes him and gives him a Big Damn Kiss. Then an [Arachne] grabs him and takes him through the roof, where she can't reach...
  • Mage Marksman: Tendo eventually uses one of his [King] abilities to fashion her a golden revolver that feeds on magic. Since she's got a mana pool so massive she can't see the bottom of it, she's got essentially Bottomless Magazines. Later, Kotaro fashions a magic shotgun for her, less powerful but able to use special cartridges.
  • Magikarp Power: At first, her magic was completely useless. Then Kotaro helped her to gain her fourth skill, and she became a powerhouse.
  • Massively Numbered Siblings: She's the oldest of eight children, and the rest are all boys.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: She sees nothing wrong with stripping Kotaro down to his boxers to wash his stinky outfit, due to the fact that she rescued him just after the battle with Higuchi.
  • The Rival: Once she and Meiko meet, she openly declares her intent to compete for Kotaro's affections. To keep the peace, Kotaro takes a Vow of Celibacy.
  • Trap Master: Thanks to Kotaro, she learns how to use her ability to make obstructions and stakes on the field. That's how she was able to level up.

The Totem Pole Trio: note

Higuchi's flunkies back in Japan, they struck off on their own when the summoning event scattered the class.
     Common to all
  • Did Not Think This Through: Yeah, sure, grabbing one of the girls from Yuuto's harem for some sick thrills sounds like a good idea, but this is certain to alienate Yuuto himself, and with his overpowered [Hero] [Vocation], the end result is not going to go well when he manages to catch up. This is not taking into account the abilities of the girls themselves...
  • Green-Eyed Monster: To Yuuto, they couldn't accept he had all the class beauties for him while they were struggling in the dungeon. The trap in the cloud zone revealed they all have a crush for one of his haremettes, Ueda for Souma Sakura, Nakai for Kenzaki Asuna, and Shimokawa for Takanashi Kotori.
     Shota Nakai
  • Damage Reduction: He received the skill [Iron Skin] which reduces the damage he takes, but not as much as a [Heavy Warrior] who would have both this and [Iron Body].
     Ueda Youhei
  • Combat Clairvoyance: He received the skill [Foresight].
  • Cool Sword: Being a [Swordsman] he fights with a sword.
  • Fanboy: He joined the Archery Club in Japan so he could be close to Sakura.
     Shimokawa Junnosuke
The water mage that attempts to kidnap Takanashi.

Hinagiku Saya and Sakurai Touya

Common to both:

     Sakurai Touya
  • Aloof Archer: He got the [Vocation] [Archer], and has national tier talent in that field, with Souma Sakura he was the best of Shirahime Archery Club. His [Vocation] gives him super aiming skills, the ability to shoot and run at the same time, and fire multiple arrows at once. He usually has a detached demeanor.
  • Chick Magnet: Not as much as Souma Yuuto and Tendo Ryuichi, but according to Saya he was attractive since his youngest and was still a hot topic among the girls at high school.
  • Crippling Overspecialization / Long-Range Fighter: He's powerful with a bow and arrows, but he finds himself at a disadvantage in close-quarters encounters.
  • Dramatic Irony: He was desperate to get a Healing Potion for Saya, not realizing she was already dead. After Kotaro and Meiko beat him and found Saya's corpse, they fought and killed the [Living Armor]s Touya and Saya fled from - and found they were guarding the very potion Saya needed.
  • Implausible Deniability: He never realized that Saya was already dead, and he was taking care of a corpse. In his perspective her condition was "stable".
  • Let Them Die Happy: Meiko told him she and Kotaro would heal Saya to let him die happy, it was a lie, Meiko never intended to save her, and was already dead anyway.
  • Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: He goes with his [Intuition] that says Kotaro's dangerous and preemptively attacks. This leads Kotaro and Meiko to conclude he will never be an ally and come after him, which is precisely what he was afraid of.
  • Psychic Radar: Being a [Archer] he got the abilities to sense danger, as well as detect enemies better than other [Vocation]s. He also got Super-Hearing.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: He's only ever had eyes for Saya.
  • Stealth Expert: Touya was already good at hiding his presence, and then he got the skill [Conceal Form] by repeating ambush tactics.

     Hinagiku Saya
  • Curse: As a Shaman she was able to use several curses, and apply them on Touya's arrows. In order she got:
    • Poisonous Person: Her starter skill [Poison] is a powerful attack that can kill any monsters if they don't have a specific resistance. Later on, she got an advanced version of this called [Viola Poison].
    • The Paralyzer: Her skill [Paralyze] prevents the target from moving.
    • Forced Sleep: Her skill [Sleep] makes the target unconscious.
  • Death By Genre Savvy: She recommends to run away from the [Living Armor] since her [Poison] doesn't work against them, and Touya couldn't destroy them easily with his bow. One of them lands a lucky blow to her in the smoke-screen she lay down as they flee.]]
  • Distracted from Death: Touya never noticed the moment she died.
  • Extreme Doormat: The fact that she has Touya's eye and is "ugly" got her horribly bullied by the rest of the girls who lusted after Touya. This stopped when she joined Class 2-7, because the girls found Tendo and Yuuto more handsome and dashing, leaving Touya behind.
  • Foil: To Kotaro. She's also a [Shaman] but started the story with a powerful offensive ability and a partner, Touya.
  • I Can't Believe a Guy Like You Would Notice Me: By the standards of the class, she's actually on the ugly side, isn't that smart, or talented, and pretty much has nothing to offer a potential mate, yet Touya, who is among the top 3 most handsome, athletic, and popular boys, is completely smitten with her and her alone.
  • Smoke Out: She had the ability to make a smoke-screen.
  • Ultimate Blacksmith: One of her starter skills allows her to analyze, disassemble and reassemble things. When her skill improved, she managed to make a legendary bow for Touya as a result.

Sugino Takashi and Ooyama Daisuke

A pair of martial artists that are romantically together.

Common to both:

  • Macho Camp: Sugino and Ooyama are respectively the Judo and Karate Club reprentatives. They are gay lovers, with each other, and are powerful fighters who utterly curbstomped Yamada and the totem-pole trio, stealing all the party's hard-earned cores.
  • Ring of Fire: Their last fight against Kotaro and Meiko.

     Sugino Takashi

     Ooyama Daisuke
  • Brought Down to Normal: Kotaro uses [Red Fever] against him during their fight, to Kotaro own surprised it caused Ooyama to lose all his buffs at once. He was still able to use magic, but lost his superhuman strength and poison immunity.
  • Eaten Alive: By Yokomichi.
  • Hot-Blooded: He's quick-tempered and gets easily riled up at anything.
  • Playing with Fire: He received the [Vocation] [Pyromancer], which gives him a lot of firepower and the ability to cast strength buffs on himself and others, making him a battlemage, unlike others mages who are physically weak. He can also cure poisons and status ailments, and bind opponents with ash.
  • Revenge Before Reason: He admits that Kotaro and Meiko are not inherently bad, and that he and Sugino made them their enemies when they stole the cores of Kotaro's former party. After Kotaro, having joined up with Meiko, retaliates and kill Sugino, Ooyama runs off and swears revenge. Unfortunately for him, Hajime got to him first.

Others:

     Yamada Genki
  • Acquired Poison Immunity: After eating many poisonous fish he gains the skill [Poison Resistance].
  • Call to Agriculture: After Yamajun and Reina's deaths, he spends a lot of time alone, immersing himself in fishing and farming. This allows him to supply the class with eggs, milk, and fish.
  • Damager, Healer, Tank: He has the [Vocation] [Heavy Warrior] and was originally teamed up with Yamajun when they arrived in this world.
  • Entitled to Have You: To Reina. He genuinely believes if he butters her up enough, she will fall in love with him.
    • Hopeless Suitor: His crush on Reina is going nowhere, given that she only has eyes for Yuuto, who is still alive and has a powerful [Vocation].
  • Meaningful Name: Inverted. His name "Genki" means full of energy but as he said he doesn't feel like that.
  • Mighty Glacier: Being a [Heavy Warrior], he has immense strength and a steel body. While he's not as strong as Sugino, he was able to take the Totem Pole Trio alone.
  • Stay in the Kitchen: He's got a bizarre sense of chivalry and actively enables Reina's laziness. All she has to do is scream she's scared and he pulls her away from the battle-front with someone to protect her in addition to her own [Guardian Beasts], while the others are risking their life. In fact, when Kotaro suggests using her spirits to conquer the [Goma] fort, he gets angry, even when Kotaro points out how she won't even be in danger herself.
  • Victory by Endurance: He has won many times because he hardly takes any damage.
  • Your Heart's Desire: The trap in the cloud zone revealed he's attracted to elementary school girls, if not younger.

     Yamakawa Junichirou / Yamajun
  • Affectionate Nickname: Everyone called him "Yamajun".
  • Combat Medic: He received the [Vocation] [Healer], and was very caring of his teammates. His [Vocation] also included light elemental magic.
  • The Heart: Everyone in Class 2-7 liked him. The only reason he was not the boy class representative was because he handed that over to Azuma Shinichi.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Gave up his life protecting Kotaro.
  • Only Sane Man: Before Kotaro joins the group, he was alone with Himeno, Reina, Yamada, and the Totem Pole Trio.
  • Take Up My Sword: He had the beginner level of [Ancient Language] deciphering. On his last moments, he gave Kotaro all he was able to translate in the dungeon.
  • Taking the Bullet: Blocks a wind-blade hurled by Reina's [Guardian Beasts] Yuuto at Kotaro, losing his life in the process.
  • The Social Expert: As pointed by the author, Yamajun had great social skills, and was the best when it come to understand others. In class he was the one able to talk easily to everyone, even girls, a feat considering how eclectic the class 2-7 is. And as he said to Kotaro, if he revealed everything he know, their class would certainly collapse.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: His death at Reina's hands is the second time Kotaro has sworn to deliver death upon someone, Higuchi being the first.

     Yokomichi Hajime
The most hated student in class 2-7, and with good reason.
  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: What he thought he was doing when he reached out his literally blood-soaked hands and rubbed them on Nagae's head. He refused to see that he was really freaking her out, and she was simply too scared of how he'd react to her running away to do so.
  • Animal Motifs: Pig.
  • Axe-Crazy: He's a total nutjob, always has been, he just had no outlet for it in Japan, but in this new world, where there's no authorities to stop him? He happily indulges in violence and murder every chance he gets.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For / Blessed with Suck: He wished for a cheat and got it but his power come with insatiable hunger.
  • Better than Sex: Once he becomes a [Cannibal], he loses all interest in sex, and even lampshades the trope.
  • Cannibalism Superpower: Being a [Cannibal], he gains new powers by eating humans and monsters, and can turn parts of his body into the monsters he has eaten. For example, he can grow poisonous thorns or mantis scythes on his tongue and arms.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Everyone calls him Porky.
  • Entitled Bastard: He tried to kill Tendo, but he's still outraged when he retaliates with lethal force.
  • Evil Smells Bad: Since he became a [Cannibal], he never took a bath, that's why he stinks.
  • Fat Bastard: Morbidly obese, repugnant, and has a horrid personality that deliberately alienates everyone, yet blames them for shunning him.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: He starts the story as a fat otaku who gets out of breath after climbing three flights of stairs.
  • Harem Seeker: The first words that come out of his mouth when he finds himself in this new world is "where's my 'cheat' powers?! WHERE'S MY HAREM!" Even after eating every girl he can get his hands on, he still says he's the main character and will get a harem to serve his every need...
  • Hated by All: None of his classmates likes him, and he entirely deserves it.
  • Horror Hunger: Being a [Cannibal] compels him to eat human flesh. If he goes without for an extended period of time, he goes into a fugue and attacks the very first human he encounters, whether he wants to or not.
  • Hyperactive Metabolism: He can heal his wounds by eating.
  • I Am a Humanitarian: He awakens the [Cannibal] class after eating the corpse of Nagae Yukiko, whom he had just killed because he realized she loved someone else.
  • I Ate WHAT?!: Driven mad by hunger, he chances upon a weakened Ooyama. Once he recovers his mind, Hajime finds clothing belonging to a male student and is revolted, then checks his newly acquired skills and realizes he ate a known homosexual.
  • Ignorant of Their Own Ignorance: He has convinced himself that he is the Main Character, the only person in the world who has the ability to gain new power through eating and Tendo... is just a magic swordsman.
  • Ineffectual Loner: He would rebuff and rebuke anyone who tried to approach and befriend him. When Masaru tried, he told him "get away from me, filthy casual".
  • Insane Troll Logic: He starts the story thinking the school board is out to get him, because, of his own volition, he spent the previous night marathoning anime, refuses to partake of a balanced diet or do any exercise, neglects his hygiene, and yet the school still runs on its normal schedule, with the classroom where it has always been, on the third floor.
  • Insufferable Imbecile: Hence being Hated by All.
  • I Reject Your Reality: He has completely convinced himself that he's "the main character" in an Isekai wish-fulfillment story, has a "Cheat" power, and will have riches, power, glory, and a harem of willing, lovely ladies catering to him, regardless of his actions, character, appearance, or the fact that he does nothing to maintain his proper hygiene.
  • It's All About Me: He genuinely believes that the world revolves around him, or should, both in Japan and in this new world.
  • Moral Myopia: He attacks and tries to eat people, yet when they fight back, they're the monsters who have to die.
  • Monster Misogyny: He exclusively targets attractive women to murder and eat because he gets an orgasmic thrill from it. He goes after the androgynous Kotaro because he finds some aspect of Kotaro's blood as addictive as a drug. Although he would very much like to steal Tendo's vastly superior abilities, he hesitates because Tendo's a macho-man and that "just feels wrong".
  • Multipurpose Tongue: His extendable tongue is one of his favorite weapon.
  • Never My Fault: He's got a persecution complex, and thinks everyone's out to get him, completely ignoring the fact that he deliberately alienates everyone he comes across.
  • The Nose Knows: He has a nose so sensitive that he can recognize Kotaro's smell on his dropped weapon.
  • One-Winged Angel: [[spoiler:He has a Super Mode called [Complete Transform] he uses in his final battle. In this form, he becomes a giant pig monster fused with many other things and is much stronger, but cannot maintain this form for long.
  • Otaku: Take the worst stereotypes of the term, exaggerate them, and that's only the tip of the iceberg where he's concerned.
  • Poisonous Person: He often uses his paralyzing tongue to capture his prey, and he has obtained other poisonous abilities from the monsters he has eaten.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: He's elitist, thinking otakus like him are the penultimate life-form, homophobic, misogynistic, and racist, yet he's so self-deluded, he sees himself as the "hero" of the story.
  • Stock Light-Novel Hero: What he thinks he is, and he refuses to believe otherwise, regardless of his actions, or the consequences.
  • Stomach of Holding: His stomach is an extra-dimensional space.
  • Super-Persistent Predator: As a [Cannibal], he is compelled to prey on humans. Kotaro's blood becomes his favorite food.
  • Terms of Endangerment: Once he becomes obsessed with Kotaro, he keeps calling him "my darling," "my sweetheart," "my bride". While hunting him down, he indulges in plenty of Lecherous Licking on anything that has Kotaro's scent.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: His lack of fighting skills is especially obvious during his fight against Ryuichi.
  • Was Once a Man: He doesn't just take on the skills of monsters he eats, he takes on physical traits too. The longer he remains alive, the more inhuman he becomes.
  • Wound That Will Not Heal: In defending himself from Hajime, Kotaro hits him with a curse that reverses the effect of "Ointment A", which is a coagulant. This causes Hajime to have a wound that reopens again and again.
  • Yandere: He is so sick that he sees murdering and eating women as "loving" them and "becoming one with them forever".

    Airi Himeno
  • Bright Slap: Delivers one to Reina for shoving her into the path of a monster and then threatening her with her [Guardian Beasts], Engard, when Airi ran to Reina for aid. To add insult to injury, the rest of the party ordered Airi to apologize. Traumatized, Airi ran into the dungeon, and nearly found herself dead, except that another guy came to her aid.
  • Combat Medic: She initially received the [Vocation] [Healer] and, like Futaba, kept her three initial abilities, including light elemental magic.
  • Damsel in Distress: Nakajima had to save her twice, because she's unable to fight.
  • Dirty Coward: She got a good starter skillset, yet she refuses to do anything herself, even providing a distant support with her [Lux Sagitta], because it's dirty and dangerous, but she expects stupid men to protect her.
  • The Engineer: She learns [Basic Remodeling], which lets her craft and repair simple items.]]
  • False Friend: In her perspective "friendship is only a calculation of gains and losses". She only became friends with Meiko because she was uglier than her, so she could use her as a "shield", and with Rurika and Akane because they were cute, and could raise her position.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Her [Vocation] was nothing compared to Reina's natural charms, who took the attention of her male teammates away from herself. Unlike her, Reina didn't have to give them anything, which made Airi incredibly jealous.
  • Harem Seeker: When she arrived in this new world she had the hope, like Yokomichi, of receiving a cheat and building a reverse harem of handsome guys, like the stories.
  • I Have Boobs, You Must Obey!: As she said: the creature called man was like a dog wagging its tail to this.
  • I Just Want to Be Beautiful: Airi considers herself ugly, and knows how much appearance is important for women. Her condition is even worse considering the fact her class is full of beauties.
  • Sex for Services: She has sex with guys who protect her in the dungeon. First it was Nakajima Yoma, then the Totem Pole Trio, and finally Yamada Genki, she had each of the guys take turns. Airi mocks Nakajima and men in general who "desperately needed sex to the point of asking her, an ugly girl, for it".
  • Succubi and Incubi: Her [Vocation] [Succubus] gives her the ability to make men feel good with her, and take their lustful energy.
  • The Vamp: Except for the fact that she's ugly. She has no attachment to men and only use sex and sex-hunger as a way to get men to protect her, progress in the dungeon, and otherwise get what she wants.

     Nakajima Yoma
  • Cannot Spit It Out: He never had the courage to confess his love to Yukiko.
  • The Engineer: He learns [Basic Remodeling], which lets him craft and repair simple items.
  • Hopeless Suitor: He didn't know Yukiko was already Higuchi's girlfriend anyways. He later falls for Kenzaki Asuna, but doesn't seem to have more chances with her.
  • Magic Knight: His [Vocation] [Magic Swordsman] allows him to use martial arts, fire magic and others magic depending of the magic swords he has.
  • The Dulcinea Effect: He saved Airi and naively presumed she fell for him because he did his best to protect her, even more after she had sex with him. Then she started to take turns with the totem pole trio. Since he wanted an exclusive relationship, and couldn't handle seeing the girl he liked spread her legs for others, he wandered off.
  • Virginity Makes You Stupid: That's why Airi was able to play him for a fool.

Hayama Riraito - Spoilers for the 13th arc!
  • Animal Lover: The first monster he met was a bear he became friends with (unlike Kotaro and Yuuto). Later he heals a dying [Red Dog], and saves an orphan snow leopard.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: His spirits help him when he needs, and otherwise live in the objects he carries. For example, when Hayama found a leather bag, water spirits start to live inside, making it produces water. Both light and lightning spirits live in his phone making it work without connection, increasing the light it can produce, and replenishing the battery. He also got an Artificial Limb after Yokomichi ate his right arm.

  • Jerkass: Not only does she demean and bemoan Meiko's helplessness and injury, but robs her blind of her equipment, right in her face, and demands the rest of the party abandon her to be Left for Dead.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: In a dungeon with Everything Trying to Kill You, being a dead weight is a no-go.
  • Karmic Death: She not only abandoned Meiko to die, slowly, from bleeding out, but robbed her blind right in her face, and called her "Butaba". A [Goma] swarm later, she gets dragged off, where the rest of the party can't come to her aid, getting slowly dismembered and eaten. Kotaro later finds her corpse, still being hacked apart.
  • Long-Range Fighter: Her [Vocation] was archer, making her skilled with a bow, however she didn't have any close-combat ability and ended killed by a [Goma] swarm.

     Nagae Yukiko
Higuchi's girlfriend.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: She fell for Higuchi who fit the definition of the bad boy.
  • Better to Die than Be Killed: She kills herself rather than let Hajime rape and murder her. This has horrible consequences when Hajime stumbles upon the corpse.
  • An Ice Person: She got the [Vocation] [Cryomancer].
  • Lovable Coward: Though she had offensives abilities too, she never used them and had systematically avoid battles by using a smoke cover to leave, yet she's still adorable.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: If Higuchi's testimony is to be believed, she sought him out for sex and was completely insatiable.
  • Morality Pet: She's the only person Higuchi was genuinely nice to, and they were both very much in love with each other. She even had a bunch of lovey-dovey pics of the two of them on her smart-phone.
  • Unwanted Rescue: Unfortunately it was Yokomichi who came to save her when she was surrounded by monsters.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Killing herself to avoid Hajime defiling her made him goes into fugue, "becomes one with her" by eating her, and then awakens his [Cannibal] [Vocation].

    Satou Yuuya

    Iijima Mayumi
