Yeah, hence why I said that this was already reaching a bit that it's safe to assume that by default. It's just that seeing japanese seem to mostly agree with our opinion maybe we can be a bit lenient if an decent example shows up but can't extensively prove it's the same for Japan. It doesn't mean we should ignore proff there are not scrappies in japan, obviously, or we'll end up with examples like severa, or example that are solely based on region-exclusive stuff like the voice of a character.

[up]I'm not sure we should be more lenient when it comes to adding Scrappies, since the purpose of this cleanup thread is to make sure people aren't using it to complain. Seems like it'd be preferable if we had less The Scrappy entries overall on the site.

The purpose of this thread isn't to reduce the number of examples. It's to reduce the number of non-examples.

Anyway, if people have done some research showing that the fandoms are fairly similar over the world, then that's a decent argument in favour of accepting the benefit of a doubt. It's not conclusive evidence, but it can weigh up an argument where there is no evidence to the contrary.

Delete this enry from Xenoblade Chronicles X

When it comes to species, fans of the Marnucks are virtually non-existent; they don't have any redeemable qualities, since they lack any characterization besides being Mooks for the Ganglion (and what little backstory they do have, aside from the presence of a polytheistic religion, is slightly derivative of both the Prone and Wrothians), yet there aren't any derivative variants of their race (like the Prone), any defectors (like the Definians and the Cavern Prone again), and are as generic and common as can possibly be. It gets even worse when they are compared to the Milsaadi, who are similarly underdeveloped, but have more visual variance among them (including the presence of females for the race), a more interesting concept and aren't anywhere near as common.

A species is counted as a group, which is an instant disqualify.

It also describes a lack of fans, rather than lots of people who hate them, so it's not even describing it as an example in the first place.

I cut these entries which either describe a species or a group from Final Fantasy XIV

  • The Scrappy:
    • The moogles in the Churning Mists. Almost no one likes them due to how tedious their side quests are nor do they like having to do massive searches for objects/other moogles in a huge map. People also hate how the moogles come off as cowardly and lazy, which is nearly the sole reason why the player has to do their quests to begin with.
    • The city-state of Ala Mhigo. In addition to its citizens' Jerkass characterizations, their finest moments include sacrificing the player character to gain power to liberate Ala Mhigo, summoning a primal version of their patron deity by attempting to steal crystals from the Amalj'aa to gain power to liberate Ala Mhigo, betraying the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and killing the Sultana to once again gain power to liberate Ala Mhigo (Lolorito's to be exact). Come Stormblood, it's revealed that not everyone from Ala Mhigo are bad and all the bad apples the player encountered were just a tiny fraction of the populace.

I'll also cut Cole from Power Rangers Wild Force in the main The Scrappy page as he has gained a fan base over the years for being quite tragic, so can't count as this trope as he is now at worst a Base-Breaking Character.

An entry from Spider Gwen

The Scrappy: This version of Mary Jane. While intentionally written as a Hate Sink, many people find her more annoying and one-dimensional, rather than enjoying her as a Love to Hate kind of character and even accuse her of being disrespectful towards 616 MJ.

MJ is also mentioned in Rescued from the Scrappy Heap.

Pitch Perfect has Bumper listed as both The Scrappy and an Ensemble Dark Horse, and Amy as both a Darkhorse and a Base-Breaking Character. It also has multiple Fan Preferred Couples for single characters but that's not our department.

Cut all examples from Hells Kitchen due to being real people as well. Here they are :

     The Scrappy
  • Oh, this shit will be ugly...
    • Season 1: Andrew and Jeff.
    • Season 2: Sara, full stop. Also, your mileage WILL vary, but depending on who you thought deserved to be in the finals, Virginia or Keith.
    • Season 3: The infamous "Hell's Bitches": Melissa, Joanna, and Tiffany. As far as the men, Vinnie and Josh easily take the cake.
    • Season 4: Corey and Bobby at first, but both became better as the season went on. The same can NOT be said, however, for Jen, Rosann, Ben, Craig, Jason, and, of course, Matt.
    • Season 5: Andrea, Carol, Lacey, and Seth, and Ben to some.
    • Season 6: Tennille and Suzanne, mostly just for their voices/attitudes, as well as Louie, the shortest-lived Scrappy yet. But no one that season could possibly top former Marine Joseph.
    • Season 7: Benjamin (mostly around when he went to the red team), Autumn (though mostly just at the beginning), Fran, Siobhan, Scott, Andrew, and Maria.
    • Season 8: Russell (the only full-blown Scrappy to ever make the finals), Sabrina, and of course, Raj.
    • Season 9: Elise, the all-time Scrappy queen, as well as her rival, Carrie. Also Brendan, though mercifully, only briefly. When Elise returned in All-Stars, she was described by the others in whispers as "the most hated Hell's Kitchen contestant ever," not an in-apt statement.
    • Season 10: Royce, Tiffany, Kimmie, and Robyn. Barbie started out as one with her early behavior, but later on, she kept her head down and became tolerable compared to the other aforementioned players; Dana, conversely, started out as one of the more likeable contestants, but towards the end of the season, many people got tired (and annoyed) by her constant yelling into the camera, and more than a few people were upset when Barbie was eliminated before Dana at the end of episode 18 (although Dana also went home at the beginning of episode 19).
    • Season 11: Susan, Nedra and Dan. Jeremy and especially Gina were brief ones. Zach started out okay, if a bit cocky, but at around the midway point his skills dropped and his ego got bigger, which made just about everyone hate him, the fans included, especially with his successfully sabotaging Ray and being very gleeful about it..
      • Dan got major Scrappy points at the final service, constantly acting like the jerkass he was and at the end, when it's revealed that Ja'Nel won the challenge, he goes to Mary (he was picked last for her team) and apologizes for his actions.
    • Season 12: Ralph, Mike and Nicole (though at least the latter two were gone within four episodes). Sandra definitely started out as this, but grew out of it, calling out her teammates for nominating Rochelle solely because the latter wanted a family (while not really putting up a fight to stop herself from being nominated), and accepting her elimination in episode 12 with class, as she knew it was her own fault. She grew back to being a Scrappy with her behavior in the finale, by being lazy, attempting to sabotage the VIP table, and generally showing a poor attitude. Anton quickly rose to becoming one of the more disliked contestants due to his ego, constant excuses and sexist attitude, to the extent he got into an argument and subsequently torn apart by sous chef Andi. His poor service that same night saw him eliminated, where he promptly declared he was still the winner anyway, and was looking forwards to the day when he would be opening a restaurant next to Ramsay's.
    • Season 13: JR and JP (or, as Chef Ramsay calls them, "Just Ridiculous" and "Just Pathetic") were short-lived examples with the Never My Fault trait sticking on them. Starting at around episode 8-9, Bryant has joined the ranks for his short fuse and ridiculous mannerisms when he gets mad and for being an all-around grump. He was Rescued from the Scrappy Heap to some after he Took a Level in Kindness in the last few episodes, though. Most fans also find Roe one for being a weak chef yet somehow sticking on and also having a pretty poor attitude. Sterling is an In-Universe example, but he's very popular among fans for being one of the funniest contestants ever to appear on this show.
    • Season 14: Monique became this for many viewers after the first episode, thanks to her mouthing off at Chef Ramsay when he called her out for using pre-made sauce in her signature dish (pre-made foods are a huge no-no in that challenge), along with constantly picking fights with her teammates. Nick is this to some with his cold and condescending attitude.
      • Although they started out fairly popular, Josh, Milly, and T grew into this. Milly lost fans by sabotaging Randy (and ultimately getting him sent home) and T rubbed many the wrong way anytime she flipped out on Michelle (which, to clarify, was every time Michelle opened her mouth). But Josh is the prime example from this season: in the beginning, he was one of the nicest, most entertaining, most easygoing guys on the blue team, but he lost about half of his fanbase in episode 10 when he looked down on Nick's background (though YMMV on how much was jerkass and how much was accurate), and lost almost all of the other half in the following episode when he was transferred to the red team where he simultaneously shot down in talent and shot up in ego (Anton, anyone?).
    • Jackie in season 15 combines all the major elements, with subpar-to-mediocre skills in the kitchen, a terrible attitude, crass behavior, extremely confrontational and prone to temper tantrums, with even Sous Chef Christina calling her a cancer for the team at one point. She was also kept around farther than some less dramatic and roughly similar or better skilled contestants.
    • Season 16: Gia and Johnny are both heavily disliked by fans, the former for being overly whiny, bitchy and dramatic all the time, and the latter for his temper tantrums and his bullying behavior towards the women of the Red Team, openly admitting that he loves doing such things.
      • Andrew. Any fans he might have had began to be completely lost when he started flirting with Heather constantly, despite allegedly being engaged to be married in a few months. His immature and bullying behavior towards contestants such as Devin and Kimberly doesn't help either.
      • Matt, due to being a jerk to anyone who criticized him. Him being a bigger Sore Loser than even Johnny and Koop did not help his case. What's interesting about Matt though is that he adjusted his attitude after his near quit in Episode 3, but in his last two episodes, degraded back to his arrogant self.
      • Although he started out fairly popular, Paulie eventually became one due to his increasing arrogance, inability to take criticism, and loud-mouthed Jerkass behavior, especially towards Ryan. His attitude when Devin and Wendy went home and declaration that he would only look him out for himself also reflected poorly on him, and many fans felt he should have gone instead of them.

Also cut all the examples from Survivor for being real people as well: Here they are :

  • The Scrappy
    • Anyone who quits without a good reason. Players like Jenna Morasca, who left All-Stars to be with her dying mother, Kathy Sleckman, or Dana, who was medically evacuated from the game in intolerable pain, may get a pass.
      • Of the quitters, Colton Crumbie gets the most hate for being racist and elitist especially towards Bill and Christina. No one felt sorry for him when he was evacuated. The announcement of his return annoyed everyone and he quit after a week in the game because no one wanted to play the game his way. The minute he quit, Jeff Probst ripped him a new one
      • NaOnka because of her being an Jerkass, most notably to the handicapped Kelly B. Not to mention announcing to quit but not sacrificing the reward her team had won in the challenge that episode.
    • Also from One World is Alicia Rosa. While not as infamous as Colton, she was known for bullying her fellow contestants, including comparing Christina to her students. She is a special education teacher by the way.
    • Denise Martin from China has gotten a fair share of haters after she didn't take PG on any reward challenges despite PG taking her on a reward challenge of a place Denise wanted to go to as well as being in the center of controversy by having Mark Burnett give her 50,000 dollars after lying about her being fired from her job.
    • An odd example would be be The Fang Alliance (Sugar, Crystal, Susie, Matty, GC, Kenny, and Kelly) from Gabon. The people in the alliance were rather well liked on their own, but as a group, they were incredibly cocky and terrible, and are possibly one of the most unpopular alliances ever. Made even more glaring by the fact that the opposing alliance was made up of archetypes the fans usually don't like (Alpha Bitch, Manipulative Bastard, Grumpy Old Man, etc) and they STILL managed to be more hated.
    • As for an actual contestant from Gabon, Corrine ended up gaining some haters for her being a Jerkass and giving one of a very brutal "The Reason You Suck" Speech by telling that Sugar's father deserved to die. Her appearances in Rob Has a Podcast and her return in Caramoan largely rescue her from the scrappy heap by showing more personality along in those appearances.
    • Russell Hantz started as one to just the older fans because being a Creator's Pet who steals time from the other castaways, doesn't realize that its a social game and was slow to understood why he lost. He became one to everyone in Heroes vs Villains due to becoming dumber and more being more horrid to his castaways than in Samoa.
      • His nephew Brandon Hantz counts as a Scrappy as well especially after his meltdown in Caramoan that caused everybody to be believed that he is the most questionable casting choice out of all of the seasons.
    • Also from Samoa, Ben Browning was very much hated by fans due to him being a Politically Incorrect Villain who is racist against Yasmin and Jaison.
    • Pretty much a majority of the Ometepe Six for being Too Dumb to Live and granting Boston Rob a very easy win causing many people to believe that Redemption Island was the worst season ever. Phillip deserves special mention here for being a Jerkass Creator's Pet who stole the spotlight.
    • To a lot of superfans, Ozzy became one after South Pacific by him becoming a Creator's Pet as well as him taking a level in jerkass. It should be noted after he announced to be on Game Changers, many people went on to dislike that casting choice. And yet he proved the haters wrong and ended up being far more likeable than he was since Cook Islands.
    • Shamar because of being a annoying Jerkass and Lazy Bum who absorbed screentime from the rest of his tribemates (some of whom was fans and applied).
    • After Caramoan, Dawn became this for her emotional instability and betrayal of Brenda. The fan backlash at the time was so bad Dawn had to shut down her Twitter account.
    • Missy and Baylor. Both who occupied their screentime with Baylor being a princess, while Missy playing Mama Bear when any contestant called Baylor out on her bratty behavior, etc. Missy made it into the final three despite a hurting ankle, which viewers think it's unfair.
    • Will, Dan and Rodney from Worlds Apart are loathed by fans. Rodney and Dan are both disrespectful, misogynist jerks with no redeeming qualities, Dan becoming even more hated when making light of Shirin's history of domestic abuse and trying to compare it to him being adopted, which had Jeff Probst call him out on being entirely different things. Will was not one, but firmly planted himself as one of the most hated contestants of all time due to his morbid, horrible attack towards Shirin, a victim of domestic abuse (which he knew about), telling her things like nobody loves her, nobody wants to see her, and his most commonly used, that she has no soul. He continues to insist that he is right about her, that he has nothing to apologize for, and that he's a good Christian man who just calls things as he sees them. To say people, especially Christian people, find Will to be lower than scum is an understatement. However, Rodney is not as hated as Dan and Will are, as some people find him more funny than annoying.
    • After Cambodia, Tasha has become this due to her condescending and arrogant attitude near the end of the game (calling fan favorites Keith, Kelley, Abi, and Kimmi goats undeserving of making it to the end despite the fact they had been voted on by their fans just like everyone else). Which made it all the more hilarious and ironic when she received no votes at the end and the jury called her nothing more than a pawn in Jeremy's alliance.
    • Also from Cambodia, Spencer could be this too. He's a Creator's Pet, given a disproportional amount of screentime even more than the winners, he's taken a level in jerkass being abrasive to his other tribe mates, bullied Abi-Marie with Shirin, and blackmailing Jeremy with planning to steer the votes away from him if he is not taken to the final four over Kelley. Like Tasha, karma hit him when he got no votes in the end and Jeremy got every single vote, and was called a bully by Kimmi and Kelly Wigglesworth.
    • Savage received some haters from Cambodia as well for his Holier Than Thou attitude, his Irrational Hatred towards fan favorite Stephen, becoming a Sore Loser, and taking a level in jerkass.
    • The pair of Jason and Scot from Kaoh Rong due to their bullying towards Alecia early on and their actions in Episode 9 sabotaging the tribe and dumping water on the fire, as well as being a bad influence on Tai. Their hatedom has only increased after voting for Michele to win, over fan favorite Aubry.
    • Michele is well on her way to becoming this, as the internet exploded mere hours after her win, claiming that she won only because of a bitter jury and robbed Aubry of a deserved win.
      • Michele is more of a Base-Breaking Character than The Scrappy, especially since the fandom has cooled down months after the Kaoh Rong finale and she does have fans who were pulling for her win. It's basically just a Broken Base; there are some who believe she won fair and square with her social game, and then there are some who are still outraged Aubry lost.
    • John Cochran from South Pacific and Caramoan has a considerable hatedom on several Survivor boards, due to his insufferable personality and sexism, as well as flipping on his tribe, leading to a very predictable post merge in South Pacific. He also admitted to playing up the "bullying" storyline to the cameras so he would get more screentime and to be edited as an underdog. Despite this, he was brought back for Caramoan as a "Favorite", and had several things go his way: his tribe consisted of his friends, he got several advantages, and he rode to the end for an easy win.
    • From Millennials vs. Gen X, both Figgy and Taylor received some flak for getting into a showmance that everybody ended up knowing about in which is usually frowned upon on Survivor since having everybody know about you are in a power couple together puts a target on you and people quickly got tired of their showmance. It doesn't help much that Mari got voted out instead of Figgy during the first tribal council for the millennials along their showmance seemingly being rushed as they got together five days in the game and they even told Jeff they wanted to get married on Day 18 which makes it very ironic that they broke-up after the show. Even more so after Figgy got eliminated when it was revealed Taylor has a pregnant girlfriend outside the show and Figgy was only using Taylor and never loved him. Taylor is receiving even more hate for being a Jerkass and his immature behavior, most notably stealing food from the merge feast with the excuse that he was hungry, when TWELVE other people were hungry. It doesn't help much that Taylor managed to be a total idiot in the game.
    • Also from Millennials vs. Gen X, both Zeke and Brett ended up gaining some haters for going after David with his anxiety issues along with Brett stating that he does not want to go with rocks and only David wanted to go with rocks despite it being a group decision to go with rocks. In addition, Zeke failed to live up some hype Jeff Probst stated about him stating that he was the main reason the main reason to watch this season and was overshadowed by players such as David, Adam, Michaela, and Jay. It only got worst he was cast for Survivor: Game Changers instead of some of the more popular male castaways of his first season. Out of the two of them, only Zeke got pulled out from the scrappy heap in Game Changers... for a bit as he regained his status as a Scrappy character due to his idiotic betrayal of Andrea and Cirie,.
    • Mike Skupin from Australia has recently become this for his actions off of the show. He was charged with child pornography and running a ponzi scheme, which has caused many people to hate him.
    • Jeff Varner gained a considerable amount of hate after Episode 7 of Game Changers for outing Zeke as transgender as a game move, which was seen as a personal attack on him.
    • J.T. Thomas has gotten this status due to his participation in Malcolm's very controversial exit from Game Changers after making a yet another idiotic move in the game.
    • Sarah Lacina became this in Game Changers. At first it was due to her being one of the more obscure choices for a season called Game Changers, but then most of the fanbase started to get sick of her due to how bland and monotone she was, and the overly positive editing she's receiving —- especially since it took screen time away from the remaining fan favorites. Many people are hoping she won't win, fearing she's getting an obvious winner's edit. They were right.
    • Ryan from Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers has earned a lot of haters for completely botching his relationship with Ali by not telling her that he wants to vote for Roarke. Not to mention him being a strategic mastermind like the editors wanted him to be is pretty much an Informed Attribute due to the Ali incident, not understanding wven that he betrayed Ali, proceeding to argue with Ali instead of pacifying her and letting her vent, and even considering keeping Ali around even though she will most likely want to vote him out once they merged.

I see the resident evil characters where brought up in the past but it seems that they where never resolved so i'm going to say [tup] to for their deletion.

the Advertising page is mostly real people I vote to axe the page.

The Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel has Elise and Prince Cedric sen's 3 is not even out yet in fact it's going to be released sometime next year and Elise character type is in fact more liked in Japan so she might be a case of america hate triangle or base breaking character.

and finally Rose from the tales series from what I have seen is ship a lot with Princess Alisha Diphda.

[up]One of these guys is hated because he had child pornography in real life and there are a ton of examples where it's the person not the character that is hated, so that's why the reality stuff is being cut. With professional wrestling it's made clear it's just a show and that's a character but with reality tv it's hard to say if it's an act or these people are actually like that which means we keep wrestling but cut all of the reality stuff.

on the Visual Novels I found this. Most of the characters in the Berry Big Circus not named Acro, the victim, Max, Sōta Sarushiro (Simon Keyes), or Regina Berry could qualify though the last one is more of a Base-Breaking Character but special mention goes to Trilo/Ben and Moe who are regarded as some of the most grating characters for different reasons. Moe has hated for his Nonstandard Character Design along with the fact Phoenix gets penalized if he gets off-tangent in his testimony. Then we get to Trilo/Ben who is the most livid and lewd witness, beats up his partner, has a crush on a 16 year old girl, treats the defense like crap, and every time you try to present evidence to him he goes into a stuttering wreck which for some people, hits a little too close to home. And This. Most of the new characters in Dangan Ronpa Togami get this (with the exceptions of Shinobu Togami/"Blue Ink", Hiroyuki Ketouin, and Satomi Aoba). Most of them are accused of being underdeveloped, unlikable and generally feeling like fan characters. Suzuhiko Otsuki gets a blunt of this however, thanks to copying character traits from Toko Fukawa and provides a major Deus ex Machina. their is something off about those two entries.
