    Pre-Release Theories
Mephisto will appear.
As a villain or a cameo.

Bruce Campbell will have a minor role.
Why not? Campbell is Sam Raimi's most frequent collaborator.
  • Confirmed, he appears as a Pizza Poppa vendor.

Billy and Tommy will return.
In one of the universes visited/opened, Wanda's now-teenage twins will appear. Either during the course of the film or in a Stinger, they will link up with America, forming the building blocks for the Young Avengers.
  • Possibly confirmed, as both Julian Hilliard and Jett Klyne were both allegedly spotted on a farm set.
  • Confirmed/Jossed, they both appear in the movie, but the same age they were at the end of WandaVision, and they don’t end up in the “616” timeline

The Watcher will make an appearance.
As we've seen back in the finale of What If?, The Watcher can't interfere in any normal universe's affairs, but he CAN help with multiversal level crisis. As Strange Supreme is also present, perhaps the Watcher sent Strange Supreme to help Doctor Strange. He'll either appear as a Cameo simply receiving Strange Supreme's reports after the mess has been cleaned up, or if things get too bad, maybe he'll step in himself.
  • Jossed, even if they do go to the 'space between spaces' where he lives.

The Strange Supreme from the trailer is a Brainwashed and Crazy version.
Last we saw Strange Supreme, he had atoned for the destruction of his universe by siding with the Watcher against Infinity Ultron and watching over the Sealed Evil in a Duel between Killmonger and Arnim Zola. This has led me to believe that SS was discovered by some greater evil (likely Kang the Conqueror, who is most definitely the current Big Bad of the post-Infinity Saga era) who has him under mind control.
  • Sort of - like anyone who reads the Darkhold, he gets corrupted by it.

Prediction on which variants of Marvel characters to appear and who will play them
According to the reports, the film's reshoot includes a ton of cameo and appearance by multiple variants of Marvel characters. So let's make a prediction!

Croctor Strange will appear.
Croctor Strange is an anthropomorphic Crocodile and Master of the Misfit Arts. He is from Earth-8311, the same universe as Spider-Ham in the comics. If Croctor Strange were to appear, then he would appear as a CGI Funny Animal, he would be the Plucky Comic Relief in the sequel to ease the drama a bit with his jokes and funny moments. His role in the sequel would be something like Spider-Ham in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
  • Jossed.

Casting choices for Shuma-Gorath

A sorcerer Nicodemus West will appear from the Multiverse.
  • As a villain like he was in the comics.
    • Jossed.

Billy and Tommy will be revealed to be in America's Home Dimension
Which Billy created retroactively by an unconscious use of his powers in order to keep himself and his brother safe.
  • Jossed, America's dimension is still only women, but the dimension of those twins is the one most present in the plot.

MCU Gargantos is Shuma-Gorath in all but name.
Due to Shuma-Gorath's name originating from Robert E. Howard's Kull short story "Curse of the Golden Skull", which was first published in 1967 and thus not likely to be in the public domain, Marvel is pulling an Adaptation Name Change by calling the MCU version of Shuma-Gorath "Gargantos" — a green one-eyed tentacle-monster they fully own the rights to — to avoid having to pay licensing fees and royalties.
  • Confirmed. Marvel does not own the rights.

America Chavez will help Doctor Strange.
Since America Chavez will be appearing in the sequel, she will likely be helping Doctor Strange, during part of his journey in the Multiverse.

  • Confirmed... although most of the time it's the other way around.

Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch will team up together.
Well, it wasn’t confirmed on what role Elizabeth Olsen will be playing for Wanda, with it likely that she will team up with Doctor Strange to help save her sons.

Wanda will help Strange stop Mordo.
Despite being confirmed to become a villain in the sequel, She will help Doctor Strange stop Baron Mordo from eliminating the other sorcerers of the world.

  • Jossed.

Strange will show sympathy towards The Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff.
Given that he had a tragic past, and Monica did also have one just like Wanda, he will show sympathy for her while convincing her to control her powers of madness.

  • Confirmed. But then she goes onto a dark path he can't agree with.

Strange will try to help Wanda.
Given that he has helped Thor, including the rest of The Avengers on stop Thanos, he will likely try to help Wanda during his journey in the Multiverse of Madness.

  • Confirmed.

Wanda will become the film's Villain Protagonist.
Given that she was shown to be a Villain Protagonist in both Avengers: Age of Ultron and WandaVision, she may become the Villain Protagonist again in the sequel while trying to find her children on her journey.

  • Well, she is the villain, but not protagonistic enough.

Wanda will help Strange save the Multiverse.
Despite having powers that are dangerous, she did help save the world such as helping the Avengers stop Ultron, helping Steve while joining his side, and stopping Helmut Zemo, Helped stop 2014 Thanos from turning the world into his own image, rescued her children from being held hostage by Agatha, saved the S.W.O.R.D. from falling to there deaths, and even forgave Monica while considering her as a friend.

  • Mixed. She has a last minute change of the heart and destroys all copies of the Darkholds. But, the Multiverse is out of control.

Wanda will go on a journey to find her children.
Given that she heard her son’s voices at the end of a post-credit scene in WandaVision, it is implied that she will go on a journey in a search to look for them during part of the film.

  • Confirmed.

Wanda will begin to feel remorse for her madness powers.
Given that she has shown to be very much remorse for her actions in WandaVision, it is possible that once she realizes how dangerous her Witch powers are.

  • Confirmed, even if it's only in the ending.

Loki (Variant L1130) will be returning in the sequel.
Given that it was confirmed that Loki (Variant L1130) is confirmed to be returning in the sequel, he may be having a supporting role in the film.
  • It should be pointed out that it hasn't actually been confirmed that Loki will be appearing in the film, just speculated. Marvel Studios has not confirmed his involvement as of the first teaser trailer being release.

    • Jossed.

Sylvie Laufeydottir will return in the sequel.
Given that it was confirmed that she will be appearing in the sequel, she may either have a supporting role, minor role, or just a cameo.
  • Mirroring the above item about Loki, it has not been confirmed (yet) that Sylvie is appearing in the film either.

    • Jossed.

Mobius M. Mobius will appear return in the sequel.
Since he was confirmed to appear in Multiverse of Madness, it is implied that he may be likely on having a supporting role, in the sequel, along with Loki (Variant L1130).

  • Jossed.

Loki (Variant L1130) will help Strange during his journey in the Multiverse.
Given that he was trying to stop Sylvie from killing He Who Remains in Loki, due to it meaning the Multiversal War will begin, he may be helping Strange during his journey in the Multiverse.

  • Jossed.

Strange will be going on a journey to the Multiverse.
Given that the Multiverse is now in danger thanks to Sylvie killing He Who Remains during the season one finale of Loki, Strange may be likely going on a journey in the Multiverse to save it.
  • Confirmed, but unrelated to other series.

Enchantress will appear in the Multiverse of Madness.
Well, since she is an enemy of Doctor Strange, it can be possible for her to appear in the Multiverse of Madness.
  • Sylvie from Disney+'s Loki is a composite character of the Enchantress and Female Loki. It's quite possible that she may face off against Dr.Strange or officially don the name 'Enchantress' by the end of the film.
    • Jossed.

If Strange Supreme is in this film, he will Go Mad from the Revelation that the Christine Palmer of the Sacred Timeline is still alive.
This is what leads to him performing a Face–Heel Turn, and thus acting much more sinister to his Sacred Timeline counterpart.
  • Jossed, the 'Supreme Strange' is not the one from What If...?

A Doctor Strange variant from the Raimiverse will show up.
Doctor Strange was offhandedly mentioned by JJJ during Spider-Man 2, Raimi is directing this movie, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, which had many Raimi film appearances, connects to this movie. There's a lot to suggest this could happen.

Instead of being from an extradimensional planet, Rintrah will be from an alternate Earth.
Albeit an Earth where there are more magical creatures like him walking around like normal people. He could be from a city/nation/village/school/whatever called R'Vaal, the name of his planet from the comics.

We will see the What If...? versions of Killmonger, Zola, and Ultron.
Strange Supreme is appearing in the film, and we last saw him containing King Killmonger, Arnim Zola and Ultron Sealed Evil in a Duel in a pocket dimension. Perhaps we get to see the pocket dimension with Killmonger and Zola still engaged in their useless duel?
  • And with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, just around the corner, another Killmonger could send Wakanda back into chaos.

    • Jossed.

Supreme Strange is not in the film and/or not the focus of it.
Marvel Studios deliberately misled us into thinking that Evil Doctor Strange is Strange Supreme. The first trailer draws too heavily on Dr Strange What If episode: the world disintegrating around him, the dream-like wedding of Christine Palmer, the tentacled monster. It's almost too obvious to conclude that Strange Supreme returns as the main villain.

  • Confirmed.

The Strange Supreme in the trailer isn't the same one from What If…? (2021).
  • He's actually a Strange Supreme variant who did everything that the other Strange Supreme did, but this variant was never recruited by Uatu and never got redemption saving the multiverse from Infinity Ultron.
    • Perhaps this was one a bit more like the ST counterpart in being more arrogant and less attached to Chrstine then in episode 4 and so never quite realised he was wrong all too late.

    • Confirmed, this one was corrupted by the Darkhold.

There will be an explanation for the change in appearance of the Darkhold between Runaways (2017) and WandaVision.

  • Kind of - it's revealed that the Darkhold holds transcriptions of dark spells carved onto a temple's walls, so there's an explanation for having two of them.

There will be a fight between Strange and Wanda over the Darkhold.
Strange will try to urge Wanda to hand the Darkhold over since it has the power to turn whoever holds it mad, alluding to its previous appearances, but Wanda refuses because it could be her only way to see Billy and Tommy again. This will cause their relationship to start deteriorating, as Strange could try to sympathize with Wanda over how they both lost a sibling prior to this.

  • In a way, given Wanda using the Darkhold is what opens a rift between her and strange.

A good chunk of the cameos will have the characters as villains, monsters, or twisted corpses.

  • Jossed.

Regarding rumors of The Illuminati appearing...
If they do appear, it'll lean into the multiverse angle and contain versions of characters from established alternate universes. (Giving this theory credence are reports that reshoots were done to accommodate more characters from other universes than originally planned, especially given how popular they were in Spider-Man: No Way Home.)

The exact roster of the Illuminati varies, but these are some examples we could see:

  • James McAvoy or Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier from the X-Men Film Series franchise.
    • Confirmed. Patrick Stewart makes a vocal cameo in the Super Bowl trailer, with the implication that he's Charles Xavier hanging heavily over the proceedings. A new TV spot confirmed that he is indeed playing a variant of Charles Xavier.
  • Ioan Gruffudd or Miles Teller as Reed Richards from the 2000s films or the 2015 reboot. It has been reported that John Krasinski may appear as a Mr. Fantastic variant, but what if maybe Ioan Gruffudd or Miles Teller returns to play their Mr. Fantastic version in the film? If the Illuminati members are variants, they could have resorted to hiring a new actor, but Patrick Stewart returned, so why not with one of the previous Mr. Fantastics?
    • Jossed, Mr. Fantastic does appear but he’s played by John Krasinski.
  • Tom Cruise as Iron Man, as a nod to how he was the original choice for the role back when the movie was in development during the 1990s.
  • Anson Mount as Black Bolt from the 2017 Inhumans series, which could also give Marvel Studios an opportunity to establish that it's not canon to the MCU and free up those characters to be used again elsewhere, possibly in the Ms. Marvel series. Another option could be Vin Diesel, who was in negotiations to play Black Bolt in the unproduced Inhumans film.
    • Confirmed, but he is not the same Black Bolt from the show.
  • Tenoch Huerta as Sub-Mariner. If Huerta has been cast as Namor as rumored in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, then maybe Huerta plays the Illuminati's Namor.
  • Variants of MCU characters deceased in the Sacred Timeline.
    • Anthony Hopkins as a variant of Odin.
    • Rene Russo as a variant of Frigga.
    • John Kani as a variant of T'Chaka.
    • Tilda Swinton as a variant of the Ancient One.
    • Salma Hayek as a variant of Ajak. She was built up as a major player in Eternals, only to be unceremoniously killed off two-thirds into the film. Despite this, Hayek revealed she has signed on for multiple MCU films. Having her on the Illuminati could be one way she possibly returns.
  • Confirmed, the group that Strange is brought to is confirmed to be the Illuminati in the “Time” spot. Along with Reed, Black Bolt and Xavier are Captain Carter and Maria Rambeau as Captain Marvel.

X-Men Wolverine will appear in the Multiverse of Madness.
Since he is reported to return in the Multiverse of Madness, he may be going to Strange during his journey in the Multiverse.

  • Jossed.

The Multiverse of Madness will introduce the MCU X-Men.
Since the Multiverse of Madness is also going to have Heroes such as America Chavez introduced, it is implied that it will also introduce the MCU X-Men.

  • Well, Xavier is introduced. But he doesn't reside in the Sacred Timeline.

The Multiverse of Madness will introduce the MCU Fantastic Four.
Since the Multiverse of Madness is also going to have Heroes such as America Chavez introduced, it is implied that it will also introduce the MCU Fantastic Four.

  • Well, Reed is introduced, and even said to be a Fantastic Four member. But he doesn't reside in the Sacred Timeline.

The Multiverse of Madness will introduce Deadpool.
Since the Multiverse of Madness is also going to have Heroes such as America Chavez introduced, it is implied that it will also introduce Deadpool, except in his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Multiverse of Madness will set up X-Men.
Since this film presumably has Wolverine in the film, it is implied that it will also be set up on the X-Men for the MCU.

  • Jossed, even if it has Xavier.

The Multiverse of Madness will set up Fantastic Four.
Since the film is confirmed to presumably have variants from Marvel Universes, the sequel may set up on the Fantastic Four for the MCU

  • It confirms that other universes already have a Fantastic Four, but their Sacred Timeline counterparts are still pending.

The Multiverse of Madness will set up Deadpool.
Since the film is confirmed to presumably have variants from Marvel Universes, the sequel may be set up on Deadpool for the MCU.

  • Jossed.

Shuma-Gorath will become the Big Bad of the film.
Shuma was reported to appear in The Multiverse of Madness, it is implied to he will serve as the main antagonist of the sequel film. Presumably by trying to conquer the Multiverse.

  • Jossed, specially as the tentacle monster isn't Shuma-Gorath.

Shuma-Gorath, Karl Mordo, and Supreme Strange will be part of a Big Bad Ensemble.
Well, since all three of them are enemies of Doctor Strange, they do appear to have one thing in common, trying to destroy magic from being used.

  • Only Mordo serves as a villain. Supreme Strange does fight the main one, but it's too brief.

Supreme Strange will be the Big Bad.
Mordo did say to Strange in the trailer, that the one who is the greatest of the Multiverse is his Evil Counterpart. this might foreshadow his role as the main antagonist in the sequel film.

  • Jossed.

Wanda's story in the film will actually be a redemption arc.
She will actually be reluctant to help Strange, fearing that she might lose control again and more people will get hurt. And one or more antagonists of the film will try to coerce her to turn to the dark side and get her children back, but ultimately she'll opt to help Strange save the multiverse. As for Tommy and Billy, they get a Bittersweet Ending where they are brought back... only as someone ELSE'S children and Wanda is forced to let them go.

  • Well, she actually decides to go against Strange all the way. And the twins are really someone else's children, namely an alternate Wanda. And she ultimately sees the errors of her Protagonist Journey to Villain.

A Marvel Zombies-inspired universe will make a memorable appearance.
The movie is directed by Sam Raimi, creator of the Evil Dead franchise, which did a crossover with that very comic.

  • Jossed, the zombie Strange is actually one revived through possession.

Doctor Strange will remember Peter Parker again.
Given that this movie explores the consequences of Peter's actions and tampering of his spell, Doctor Strange might try to remember what he has done to cause the Multiverse to break open thus inadvertently restoring his memory of Peter Parker as Spider-Man.

  • Jossed, even if he does mention Spider-Man and a multiversal crisis caused by him.

Doctor Strange will try to reconnect with Peter Parker.
If the above statement does came true, Strange could possibly try to visit Peter Parker again to help him restore the memories of his loved ones to provide him with some closure. Though there's some chances that Strange chooses not to because of two things: 1. He knows that if he approach Peter again, it will cause the young hero to get in trouble even more which would result him to get punished by the other wizards because he tampered with the spell or 2. He does try it but he respects Peter's wish of protecting his loved ones after he explains how he is afraid of hurting them again.

  • Jossed, no Spidey.

Kang the Conqueror would make a brief cameo in the movie.
In a mid credit or post credit scene, Kang would briefly appear and watches as Doctor Strange successfully fixes the multiverse before trying to confront him personally only to notice Ant-Man's arrival in the Quantum Realm.

  • Jossed.

The driving force behind Wanda's actions will be guilt over the inability to save her children.
As a result:
  • either an external force will prey on this guilt
  • or Wanda herself will overstep the limits to correct her "mistake"

    • Sort of the second - she discovers most of the Wandas of the Multiverse still have their sons, and Jumps Off The Slippery Slope trying to solve the absence of theirs.

Wanda will not only be corrupted by the Darkhold but also Go Mad from the Isolation.
She subjected herself to voluntary exile, and if enough time has passed before she reconnected to anyone, the effect will be similar to solitary confinement, which is not pleasant IRL, to put it mildly.

  • Kind of - being isolated while learning her alternate selves are still with the twins breaks her as much as the Darkhold.

The blooming orchard with sheep where Strange meets Wanda is another illusion and a metaphor.
It is different from the hut where we last saw Wanda after her series, and too idyllic to be true. The sheep she summoned are an allusion to the people of Westview. The way she prunes the branch of a blooming tree in the teaser is similar to how she deals with the Multiverse.

To add to that, the scene in the orchard is directly followed by the scene from the trailer where Wanda says "that doesn't seem fair". When the illusion of the orchard is dispelled, it transforms into a barren red land with dead branches in the background. Strange has the same casual costume, but Wanda is now wearing her "evil" one. The shot of the hissing raven from the teaser is from the same scene, or at least from the same location.

  • Confirmed!

Wanda wrecks Kamar-Taj and captures Wong (the new Sorcerer Supreme).
In the teaser, she is meditating with black fingers in the same circle that is later seen in the fight scene with Rintrah and other sorcerers. The shot with Wong has his hands tied with red magical leashes.

She needs Wong:

  • either as a bargaining chip to get what she needs from Strange, giving Strange the Sadistic Choice to either save his friend and comrade and doom the multiverse, or let her kill Wong;
  • or to interrogate him because he has some secret knowledge she craves.

    • Confirmed! And it's the second, Wong knows the source of the Darkhold.

At the end of the film, Wanda will lose some of her powers, either willingly or not.
In the beginning of the film, she is more powerful than the protagonist, and is not too good with controlling those powers. Regardless of whether she is the Villain Protagonist or just a secondary antagonist, Marvel won't let her have those powers for too long for the sake of balance, and to distinguish her kids, one of whom has powers similar to hers.

  • Unclear. Although the destruction of the Darkhold might diminish what she knows to do.

Strange will be unwilling to hurt Wanda for some reason even if he needs to.
Any of the following or a combination whereof:
  • repeatedly sacrificing others to save the world has taken toll on Strange, and he will be unwilling to do it yet again
  • he will try to abide by his Hippocratic Oath
  • he finds Wanda too similar to himself

    • Confirmed, he likes her and knows she's corrupted, and is not pleased at the confrontation.

Strange will have two variants - the evil one will actually help Strange and the "good" one will be an obstacle.
Ever since his first film, Strange never shied away from using forbidden techniques. Strange Supreme will teach him some of his tricks (in the teaser, "main" Strange casts a serpent-like spell similar to the one we saw in What If). The "good" variant will turn out to be too rigid and inflexible, like Mordo, and won't be of much help or will actively hinder "our" Strange.

  • Well, there are three. The evil one is an obstacle. The good one helps Strange by giving him a body to possess. Another was in-between, and is already dead when we reach his world.

Strange will dabble in forbidden magic once again.
In the teaser, he is seen casting a sinister-looking red spell with floating orbs, while looking at an open book at his feet (either Darkhold itself or another book). He might be trying to replicate Wanda's spells or do something different.

  • Confirmed, he uses dreamwalking on a dead body and even attracts evil spirits for it.

Clea in the MCU is a variant of Christine Palmer and will become Strange's Doppelgänger Replacement Love Interest
We can see her briefly in the teaser behind Strange, dressed in blue.

  • Jossed, she’s played by Charlize Theron. The Christine Palmer variant in blue is just Christine.

America will annoy the hell out of Strange.
She will be the Red Oni to his Blue one. If Wong will be separated from the two of them for a huge chunk of the film, Strange needs someone else to contrast his personality and challenge his icy self-confidence.

  • Jossed, they have many contrasts, but her being a nuisance is not one.

While exploring the Multiverse Strange and Co will find a Portal Crossroad World which leads to different universes.
Probably the weird place with a structure at the center we see in the teaser, or some other place.

  • Confirmed, it holds the Book of Vishanti.

The Darkhold and Wanda's children will play a minor role in the film.
Everyone understandably seems to assume that, since the tag scene of WandaVision had the Scarlet Witch reading the Darkhold and hearing the voices of her children, the plot of this movie will be driven by her study of the Darkhold and her quest to find her children. While both will undoubtedly play a role, MCU tag scenes don't usually set up the entire plot of the next movie. And adding to that, Kevin Feige has said that the movies will not expect people to have seen the TV shows (possibly backed up by the trailer where Strange dismisses Westview as not important to this story).
  • Elizabeth Olsen has contradicted Feige's initial words, by saying WandaVision was necessary to watch before Dr Strange 2.

    • Jossed - it's a major role.

Some plot points will help set up the upcoming Agatha: House of Harkness.

There's more than one Wanda in this movie, just as there's more than one Stephen.
Namely, the Wanda we see levitating ominously in a candle circle and sporting blackened fingers is not the same as the Wanda from the main MCU. As with the various Stephens appearing throughout the trailer, the different costume and hairstyle are not a simple interfilm (or rather, film-series in this particular case) costume change; but indicative of a variant. Moreover, the poster for the film shows two Wanda faces with distinct expressions along with the three different Stephen faces.
  • The Trailer shows a Westview version of Wanda putting her hand on a Scarlet Witch version of herself. While she has learned Astral Projection, this could actually be her and a variant.

    • Confirmed.

Yenifer Molina will be Gargantos.
I heard the rumor that British Colombian actress Yenifer Molina will play Gargantos in the sequel to Doctor Strange.

  • Jossed, Gargantos is still a tentacle monster.

Who is the creepy raven? which appears in the trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Maybe that raven is Hugin or Munin; Odin's ravens, the resemblance is uncanny, and this theory could be unbelievable. Perhaps a variant of Odin or a version of Odin and Hela who never stopped their conquest.

  • Jossed.

Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man will make a reappearance in this film.
Just so Raimi can work with the character again, he could have been grabbed by the tribunal on his way home from Spider-Man: No Way Home to testify.

  • Jossed.

White Vision
will make an appearance, either a cameo or in a mid-credits scene, to set up for his and Wanda's eventual reunion.
  • Jossed.

Dr. Palmer will die.
  • Knowing how often the female love interest dies in comics.
  • We saw that, it didn't end well.
  • Rachel Mcadams was not initially set to reprise her role in the film. However, after Sam Rami replace Scott Erickson as director, Mcadams later signed on to the sequel and provided voiceover work for What If.. This could mean, she may play a pivotal role in the movie. Specially, if it tied back to her variant seen in What If..

    • Jossed, there are two Christines, both survive.

The Multiversal Illuminati will all die or be left in shambles by the end of the film.
But meeting them will eventually lead to Strange forming an Earth-199999 Illuminati made up of himself and the local counterparts of the members of the group or even just loose analogues.

  • Confirmed, only Mordo survives.

Expanding on the above, Wanda ends up killing the Multiversal Illuminati.
There's a trailer scene with a bloodstained Wanda standing in a room resembling the location of the group many have anticipated is the Illuminati. Additionally, the shot of that scene zooms into Wanda's eye, which resembles Xavier probing someone's mind, which provides some potential context as to what becomes of them.

  • Confirmed.

Professor X will be the one to talk down/rehabilitate the villainous Wanda.
Bonus points if it's done via a Patrick Stewart Speech.

  • Well, he tries.

Predictions on the identity of the glowing figure.
  • Possible Candidates include:
    • Nova
    • Superior Iron Man
    • Monica Rambeau
    • A variant of Maria Rambeau from a universe where she became Captain Marvel instead of Carol Danvers
      • Confirmed
    • Human Torch
    • Captain Universe
    • Ms. Marvel

Strange Supreme does appear in the film but he and Sinister Strange are different variants.

Given what occurred in What If...?, it seems unlikely Strange Supreme became a villain. However, it does seem plausible given some shots in the trailer he is still present-perhaps Sinister Strange is either a variant of Strange Supreme who went mad from isolation or maybe is one that made a Face–Heel Turn for other unclear reasons.

  • Confirmed.

Defender Strange is the Illuminati's Doctor Strange.
He could even be the one from Earth-96283, aka the Raimi-Verse.

  • Jossed. The Illuminati's Strange is already dead.
Sinister Strange has something to do with the rise of Gargantos.

  • Jossed.

The entire Marvel Cinematic Universe will be revealed to be a "Heroes Reborn"-style pocket dimension where everyone in it has been trapped with no memory of their past lives, which included the Fantastic Four and X-Men.
...Probably not, but the event and the MCU do have some interesting similarities, both being a new take on the Marvel saga that takes some liberties here and there and omits certain characters (the X-Men being one example in both cases)

  • Jossed.

Professor X possibilities
Assuming that it is Professor X is actually in the move:
  1. He is one is from the Original Timeline thought to be wiped out by Wolverine in Days of Future Past, but retconned to him traveling to an Alternate Universe similar to how Time Travel worked in Avengers: Endgame
  2. He's from the new timeline created by Wolverine in the same movie.
  3. He's from the Alternate Timeline that Logan takes place in.
  4. He is the Professor X from the 90s animated series!
  5. He is a new version of Professor X set in the MCU, with all other versions being retconned as variants.
  6. It will be a plot twist, revealing either a new villanous variant of Professor X or Mystique posing as the Professor.

    • Jossed, he's the one from a specific dimension.

Wanda's Double Standard line will lead into a heated argument between her and Strange.
Strange states that while he was reckless in how he trapped Dormammu in a time loop to defeat him and warping reality to erase all memory of Peter Parker, he still did it for the good of others. Wanda on the other hand gaslit an entire town into taking part in a twisted roleplay family as an unhealthy way of coping with loss. This would cause things to quickly escalate into an epic magic duel between the two.

  • It is part of a heated argument. That leads to heated confrontation.

The Eye of Agamotto will be more powerful now.
In the new trailer it is seen that Stephen is still wearing the Eye of Agamotto, despite it's presumed destruction in Infinity War. Assuming that it is the 199999 version of the Eye, somehow reforged, it is possible that it'll actually be more powerful than it originally seemed. My logic? The comic version of the eye is far more powerful than the movie version. A possible explanation for this is that it's power was limited because it was restraining the Time Stone, and with it gone, the Eye will have it's full power available to be used by Strange.

  • Jossed, if one could call the structure that held the Time Stone the Eye, he wears it but empty.

The Multiversal Visitors will appear.
Well, they are also variants, since they do have alternate counterparts of them. So, it wouldn't be surprising of them to appear as cameos.

We'll see Earth-58470.
And Strange will be horrified by what he sees.

  • Jossed, unless it's one of the briefly visited by him and America.

The MCU will be called its actual designation of Earth-199999.
Assuming Strange will be brought before a Multiversal Illuminati, they will refer to him using the designation of his home reality.

  • Jossed... and considering the MCU is referred to as 616, apparently the Marvel Universe is still unknown in live action.

Patrick Stewart's character is Ralph Bohner's grandfather.
  • Jossed. He's another universe's Professor X.

Doctor Strange will visit the Earth-92131.
It would depend on whether Doctor Strange visits that Earth, and if he does, him would transform into a 90s cartoon character upon entering the 90s X-Men animated universe. Perhaps by visiting the animated universe of the X-Men of the 90s, they are laying the foundation for the presentation, when X-Men '97 premieres on Disney+.

  • Well, he visits an animated dimension.

Savage Land will make its debut in the movie and then appear more frequently in the MCU.
In trailer 2, Doctor Strange and America Chavez can be seen in a world where there is a prehistoric landscape and with dinosaurs. Perhaps this movie is laying the groundwork for when the MCU's X-Men show up. And the appearance of the Savage Land also opens the doors to possible characters that could appear more frequently in the MCU like Sauron, Ka-Zar, and Zabu.

  • One of the dimensions has dinosaurs, so possibly confirmed if not in the Sacred Timeline.

199999 Stephen will have to work with his previously-introduced variants from Marvel works besides the MCU.
This could include the Stephen from the 1978 movie, the mentioned variant in the Raimi-verse, or even the one from The Super Hero Squad Show.

  • Jossed.

There will be a cameo from The Evil Dead (1981).
This is the MCU's first horror movie and it shares a director, so why not? It could be an appearance of the Necronomicon or a Deadite.

Westview Wanda will tell her MCU Variant, Wanda, that She is not alone
In the trailer, MCU Scarlet Witch’s variant, Westview Wanda, does appear to show some sympathy for her, while comforting her. She will tell her MCU Counterpart that she is not alone, and will likely help Wanda.

  • Jossed. MCU Wanda is the one lurking on the alternate one, and with some bad motivations.

Charles Xavier's variant originates from the divergent timeline caused by X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Xavier most likely remembers meeting his older self, and his earnest research into the multiverse likely drew the attention of the Illuminati.

  • Jossed, this one is native to the Illuminati dimension.

If Black Bolt appears as a member of the Multiversal Illuminati, then it will be an indication of the Canon Discontinuity of the Inhumans.
ABC Studios' Inhumans television series was very poorly received by audiences and Marvel fans, due to its poor portrayal of the property in which is based as for example; making Black Bolt and Medusa suffer from Adaptational Wimp, many fans just pretend that nothing about this series is related to the MCU. Some even hope that it will become Canon Discontinuity directly and many fans hope that it will do a Continuity Reboot of Inhumans. Probably if Black Bolt appears as a member of the Multiversal Illuminati, then it will be a hint of Canon Discontinuity of the Inhumans series and it will be revealed that the Inhumans TV series takes place in a different universe than the MCU. So I would give the MCU to do a Continuity Reboot of Inhumans and make it more faithful to the comics.

  • Unclear, that Black Bolt is from an alternate universe.

A new set of Infinity Stones will be brought into the main MCU.
The movie is partially based on What If? and there's a set of Infinity Stones outside their native universe. Perhaps those stones will be brought over to repair the damage done by Strange and Wanda.

  • Jossed.

Merlyn will be introduced.
In Alan Moore's run on Captain Britain, Merlyn, who in the MU was a past Sorcerer Supreme, was reinvented as a multiversal magical being who organized the Captain Britains from across the multiverse to form the Captain Britain Corps. With the multiverse in peril due to the antics of two extremely powerful but reckless magic users, it isn't hard to see Merlyn emerging onto the scene to take matter into his own hands. In addition, the Watcher states that Merlyn exists "sideways" to time, meaning he could potentially have perceived Sylvie killing He Who Remains. Plus, 616!Captain Britain is the brother of Psylocke and one of the Captain Britains comes from Spider-Gwen's Earth (Earth-65), leaving the door to introduce those two as well.

Prediction on which non-MCU characters may return in this film
It's rumored that, in addition to Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Professor X and possibly Tobey Maguire returning once again as Spider-Man, the film will include a ton of cameo appearances, possibly of characters seen in films and television shows released before or that aren't set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even better, the film could show us what those characters have been doing since they were last seen. So let's make a prediction!

Some characters of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse may appear in the film.
They could be:
  • Shameik Moore's Miles Morales
  • Jake Johnson's Spider-Man
  • John Mulaney's Spider-Ham
    • It would be a bit weird to depict him in live-action, but it doesn't hurt trying?
  • Kimiko Glenn's SP//dr
    • Though who knows how they can reference her anime appearance...
  • Nicolas Cage's Spider-Man Noir
  • Liev Schreiber's Kingpin
    • This is a bit unlikely, as Kingpin was defeated and sent to jail for his actions, but maybe he escapes? His physical immensity could be a bit tricky to depict in live-action, but who knows?
    • Even better, if Hailee Steinfeld's Spider-Gwen and Kathryn Hahn's Doctor Octopus appear in the film, a joke could be made that they look like Kate Bishop and Agatha Harkness.
    • Or alternatively, the Spider-Verse characters will appear via the Roger Rabbit Effect.

    • Jossed. Although there is an animated universe. In fact, considering the existence of Incursions, it's a good thing none of them showed up.

Kathryn Hahn will return as Agatha Harkness.
As a lead-up to her upcoming Disney+ spin-off show. Maybe in a post-credits scene, Wanda restores her mind and Agatha will be back!

  • Jossed.

The film will be dedicated to William Hurt.
Even if General Ross doesn't appear in the film, as Hurt passed away fifty five days before the film's release.
  • I think it would make more sense if that happened in She-Hulk, since Ross is famously a Hulk character.
  • Jossed. But She-Hulk does seem like place for it.

The Netflix and Hulu shows will be acknowledged and integrated.
In the same way Daredevil (2015) was canonized in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye (2021), characters like the Runaways and the Helstroms will appear.

  • Jossed.

The Squadron Supreme or the Great Society will appear.
Just imagine the sheer balls Disney and Marvel would have to introduce Expies of the flagship characters of their rivals onto the big screen.

  • Jossed.

The previous two theatrical versions of the Fantastic Four will return.
While not beloved, given how the film deals with the Multiverse, seeing the Fantastic Four versions of Tim Story and Josh Trank respectively come back would be an amazing idea as a prelude to the upcoming MCU incarnation of these four heroes helmed by Jon Watts. What's more, while the second Fantastic Four version is considered by most as the worst, what if this film succeeds in redeeming them just like how Spider-Man: No Way Home redeemed Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man in the eyes of many audiences?

  • Jossed. The Reed Richards introduced is a whole new one.

And possibly even the bootlegged Fantastic Four.
And what if, in addition to the Tim Story and the Josh Trank versions, we get to see the unseen Oley Sassone version of the Fantastic Four from the unreleased 1994 film which starred Alex Hyde-White as Mr. Fantastic, Rebecca Staab as the Invisible Woman, Jay Underwood as the Human Torch and Michael Bailey Smith as the Thing. They could even include their Doctor Doom, who was played by Joseph Culp. It would be such a nice Easter Egg.
  • Jossed.

Wanda will not be the villain.
Despite the constant rumors, Wanda will likely not become a villain after all the hate she received from Westview's residents at the end of WandaVision. If she learned, thanks to Monica Rambeau, that she is gonna be hated by everyone there because of how she selfishly brainwashed them just because of her grief, she isn't gonna do something similar now if she wants to be liked, right? The Wanda who says that Strange does the same thing as her and isn't hated for doing it is likely an evil variant of Wanda.
  • Jossed.

Earth-96283 will be visited.
If Tobey Maguire is going to return here and Sam Raimi is directing this film, there's no doubt that he will want to revisit the world of his Spider-Man Trilogy, especially if Strange is going to meet the Doctor Strange mentioned in Spider-Man 2. This also could be the perfect opportunity to depict what has happened in Peter's life after Spider-Man 3.
  • Maybe how he and Mary Jane have made their relationship work (it has been reported that Kevin Feige wants to bring back Kirsten Dunst after she wasn't available to appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home)?
  • If they have any children now?
  • If Aunt May ever realized that Peter was Spider-Man like the second film implied?
  • If Oscorp's still active after Harry Osborn's death?
  • If Flint Marko reunited with his family or not?
  • If Peter is still in contact with Curt Connors and Gwen Stacy? They could bring back Dylan Baker and Bryce Dallas Howard once more.
  • If Peter still works at the Daily Bugle? He could have replaced Robbie Robertson as one of the Bugle's main editors due to Bill Nunn's real-life passing. And that could allow J. K. Simmons to return as the OG J. Jonah Jameson!

    • Jossed.

Bruce Campbell's cameo is actually the three guys he played in the Spider-Man Trilogy.
Maybe a Mysterio who really has extradimensional technology, if Campbell was intended to play him in Spider-Man 4, but maybe he was just another multiversal character like the Watcher Informant who explores every universe with a Doctor Strange, hence why he visited Earth-96283 during the early 2000s by passing as three different guys. Why did he stalk Peter Parker? Perhaps he knew that he would come across Strange at some point in his life? Maybe Campbell's characters are Morlun?

  • Jossed, the dimension where he appears is not the Raimiverse.

There will be cameo appearances from characters of Marvel imprint titles or characters they acquired.
For example, Miracleman or Kick-Ass.

  • Jossed.

MCU Strange will find out during the film that SSU Venom and SSU Eddie Brock were the sixth/seventh visitors.
In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Strange didn’t even bother to find out who the sixth visitor was, but since he will be going on a journey to the Multiverse, there could be a possibility that he might find out that Sony’s Venom and Eddie Brock were the sixth/seventh visitors.

  • Jossed.

The Vulture will return.
As shown in the post-credits scene of Morbius (2022), the Vulture was transported by Doctor Strange to Sony's Spider-Man Universe at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Perhaps the Vulture may return to his home universe here and/or the film can explain why the spell transported him if it was supposed to just erase the memories of the MCU inhabitants and send back any visitors to their realities?

  • Jossed.

Defender Strange is the Raimiverse's Doctor Strange.
What if maybe Defender Strange is actually the Doctor Strange that was mentioned offhandedly by J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man 2? That would allow Tobey Maguire to return again, just as many rumors suggested.
  • That alternate Christine Palmer who is going to marry in the trailer could very well be a Raimiverse variant and her groom is Defender Strange.

    • Where Defender Strange comes from is unknown, but the Christine getting married is the MCU one.

Supreme Strange is What If…? (2021)'s Strange Supreme.
Let's face it, it would be such a big coincidence that the film's crew named this Strange variant as "Supreme Strange" if What If…? (2021) had a variant named Strange Supreme, especially due to how the film's creative team watched the episode during development. If these two variants of Strange are the same, why does he have a statue after what he did, given that no one knows he played a role in stopping Infinity Ultron? Easy: perhaps he joins Doctor Strange and ultimately gives his life to stop the movie's main threat and, as a reward, his universe gets restored, leading the people to build a statue of their Strange for giving his life to restore them.

  • Jossed.

The Spider-Men and their villains were actually transported to the Illuminati headquarters.
In the climax of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the alternate Spider-Men and their villains are seemingly given a happy ending by being returned to their universes to resume their everyday lives or to reform, but what if this movie shreds that? Maybe Strange didn't send them back to the Raimiverse and the Webbverse, but instead accidentally got them sent to the Illuminati? Perhaps they are actually waiting for Strange in the Illuminati's dungeons...
  • Jossed.

Kirsten Dunst and Emma Stone will return in this film.
After both actresses were absent in Spider-Man: No Way Home due to COVID-19 and Stone's pregnancy, it was reported that Kevin Feige plans to bring them back in a future project? Assuming that Tobey Maguire returns here and Andrew Garfield as well, maybe this is that project?

  • Jossed.

There are gonna be a Scarlet Strange and Doctor Witch.
What if another universe that Strange visits in the film is one with Gender Bender versions of the characters? Maybe Benedict Cumberbatch plays a Scarlet Strange and Elizabeth Olsen plays a Doctor Witch?

  • Jossed.

Multiverse of Madness will be the End of an Era Game Changer that kicks off the second part of Phase 4
Same sort of idea that was presented in Spider-Man: No Way Home, where the majority of Phase 4 have been either playing catch-up with the heroes after Endgame or setting up new heroes and potential threats for distant sequels, with Multiverse of Madness being the movie that changes everything and the movies afterwards beginning to set up towards the climax of Phase 4 (or even become Phase 5).
  • It sets up many things, but is not a Winter Soldier or Civil War kind of game changer.

The film will finally clear up the whole Darkhold mess.
Either it confirms that Word of God is right that the Darkhold is the same one from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. despite looking different in WandaVision or it confirms the long-standing assumption that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. takes place in an alternate universe.
  • Confirmed, but none of the above answers are correct. The Darkhold is simply a copy of Chthon's spells, so ultimately it does not matter if both versions co-exist or are the same. At the end of the film, all Variants of the Darkhold are destroyed.

There will be a Sequel Hook that will be setting up a potential third Doctor Strange film.
Benedict Cumberbatch did discuss his return in the possible third film of Doctor Strange, and director, Scott Derrickson, was opened to make another sequel of it.

  • Confirmed!

There will be various Sequel Hooks on the Multiverse.
Despite the film being part of the sub-franchise that involves the Multiverse, there will be other shows and series that will also focus on the Multiverse such as Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. So, it is implied that there will be a few SequelHooks that will set up more adventures for the Multiverse.

  • Confirmed!

There will be a few Sequel Hooks on the Variants.
If there is any possibility that any of the Variants or the MCU Variants might appear in the film, such as Deadpool, X-Men and the Fantastic Four, any of them might end up appearing in another film or show in the future.

Bruce Campbell's cameo is none other than Ash Williams.
Ash Williams from Evil Dead, Bruce Campbell's Star-Making Role, was actually featured in a Marvel Zombies comic book crossover. So why not just bring Campbell back as Ash and have him meet the Marvel characters? Spider-Man: No Way Home included an appearance of the Shaker Kid from Cherry (2021) in a Deleted Scene, so Marvel making canon characters from other non-Marvel films could actually become a thing in these movies.

  • Probably not, unless that universe's Ash works as a street vendor.

The Incredible Hulk (2008) will be retconned as taking place in an alternate MCU universe.
Regardless what Marvel Studios says, many fans agree that The Incredible Hulk (2008) is the oddest film in the series due to it starring Edward Norton as the Hulk before he was recast by Mark Ruffalo from The Avengers (2012) onwards, most of its characters never appearing in other MCU productions and it never getting a sequel due to conflicts with Universal Pictures. However, as some are rumoring, what if this film finally establishes that The Incredible Hulk actually took place in another universe and the MCU Hulk has always been the one who first appeared in The Avengers? In this way, Norton could possibly return in this film as another version of Hulk. Want proof?
  • When reprising his role as General Ross in Captain America: Civil War, William Hurt did say that he didn't feel that he was reprising the role but playing a new iteration of Ross. Yeah, he may have been referring to the changes to the character, as The Russo Brothers brought him back to make The Incredible Hulk relevant again and remind that it's canon, but still...
  • In What If…? (2021), in the episode "What If…? S1E3 "What If… The World Lost Its Mightiest Heroes?"", when scenes of The Incredible Hulk are reimagined, we get to see Ruffalo's Hulk during the film's events, whereas it was Norton's Hulk in the film. Perhaps an indicator that the events of The Incredible Hulk did happen in the MCU but with Ruffalo's version?
  • Granted, Abomination reappears in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, but he does look different than in The Incredible Hulk and can't speak, so maybe the MCU Abomination always looked more reptilian and lost his ability to speak after his transformation?
  • Liv Tyler and Tim Blake Nelson never reappeared as Betty Ross and Samuel Sterns in the MCU. The Russos did confirm that Betty was one of Thanos' victims between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, so maybe Tyler's version does exist in the MCU (as evidenced in What If...?), but what about Nelson's Sterns?

    • Jossed. The Hulk is never mentioned.

Deadpool will move into the MCU.
Marvel Studios has already confirmed that Deadpool 3 is in the works, but unlike Deadpool and Deadpool 2, it will be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe rather than in the continuity of the X-Men Film Series. If Deadpool appears in the film as rumored, perhaps he will end up asking Doctor Strange if he can move to the MCU (perhaps with Vanessa), and Strange will let him do it, but warn him to watch his mouth from now on.

  • Jossed.

Scarlet Witch's mutant ties will finally be acknowledged.
If the film counts with the X-Men or the Brotherhood of Mutants, it could finally reveal what Marvel Studios and Disney were previously restricted from doing so prior to the buyout of 20th Century Studios: establishing Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver as mutants. Maybe Magneto or Evan Peters' Quicksilver reveals the truth to her about her mutant heritage, assuming that mutants also exist in the MCU. Maybe her parents in WandaVision actually adopted her and Pietro?

  • Jossed.

Scarlet Witch will have a duel with the Phoenix.
Whether they bring back Famke Janssen or Sophie Turner, they could have the Phoenix having a duel against Scarlet Witch. It would be amazing, considering that the Phoenix is the most powerful of the X-Men and Scarlet Witch is the most powerful of the Avengers.

  • Jossed.

Mr. Aziz will return.
Joe's Pizza, the pizza restaurant for which Peter Parker worked in the opening sequence of Spider-Man 2, was seen in a April 2022 Marvel/Tide Pods commercial. While the reference may have been included for the sake of a joke, who says that just because it appeared in a commercial it isn't gonna be in the movie? Sam Raimi has stated that the film will show other universes, so visiting the Raimiverse isn't out of question. What if Aasif Mandvi returns as the memetic Mr. Aziz? Perhaps he will now ask Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch for help to deliver his pizzas in time?

  • Jossed.

Supreme Strange is from an Earth where the heroes succeeded in turning the Earth into a paradise.
It seems more technologically advanced, so many here the heroes used their skills to progress all of humanity?

  • Jossed, he's atually from an Earth that Strange managed to doom.

We'll meet the past Sorcerers Supreme.
Maybe in response to Stephen's reckless actions, his predecessors will use "psychic impressions" to communicate with him. These will work as Mythology Gags for the comic Sorcerers Supreme and Genius Bonuses for the Historical Domain Superperson characters, like Pythagoras and Zoroaster.

Sinister Strange will form a team of multiversal villains.
Akin to how the Green Goblin formed the Sinister Five in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sinister Strange will form a multiversal team of supervillains for whatever goal he has in mind for the Multiverse, either the original ones or variant versions. These villains could be:

The film will clarify the messy timeline of the X-Men Film Series.
Following X-Men: Days of Future Past, the timeline of the X-Men Film Series was Ret-Gone, with the events of the original trilogy altered, among other things. This film could be the perfect opportunity to clarify those issues. For example, it could confirm onscreen that Logan takes place in Earth-17315 instead of Earth-10005, as one of Marvel's handbooks confirmed. In this way, the Wolverine that may appear in this film is one who belongs to the new Days of Future Past movie continuity but who will not live the events of Logan, as that could raise a lot of questions about why Logan didn't mention anything about the Multiverse in his film. Doing this could also show what Magneto has been doing after X-Men: The Last Stand.

  • Jossed. The Xavier who appears is an entirely different one.

Wolverine will mention the instance in which he was in Lagos.
If Wolverine appears in the film and meets up with Scarlet Witch, she may tell him about what she did in Lagos, leading Wolverine to mention to her about the time he went to Lagos in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

  • Jossed. Wolverine never appears or is mentioned.

For no other reason than the visual of two beloved Star Trek captains onscreen at the same time.

  • Confirmed, and many scenes, even!

One universe visited will be animated.
As a Medium-Shift Gag, the heroes will visit a universe animated in either the style of What If?, or a traditional 2D style with comic-esque art.

  • Confirmed!

Nightmare is actually the film's Hidden Villain.
In the Dream teaser, the word "Nightmare" is spoken by Wanda. Nightmare is one of Doctor Strange's foes and Scott Derrickson announced his intention of feature him in this sequel after failing to feature Nightmare in the first film. While Derrikson left the film and was replaced by Sam Raimi, maybe Nightmare was still kept in its story? Perhaps Sinister Strange is actually a disguised Nightmare?

  • Jossed. Dreams and nightmares do play a role in Wanda being the villain.

Jonathan Pangborn will return.
In the previous film's The Stinger, Jonathan Pangborn was stripped of his magical abilities by Mordo, rendering him paraplegic again. Maybe he gets to appear in the movie? Who knows, maybe Strange restores his legs at the end of the film?
  • Jossed.

The Utopian Parallel will be mentioned or appear, if only briefly
Strange will wonder where America came from and she'll tell an abridged version of her original origins.

  • Confirmed, one scene shows a flashback to America's childhood.
Doctor Strange didn't forget Peter Parker.
At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange casts the spell to make everyone forget about Peter Parker, but what if maybe he didn't lose his memories of Parker as he expected? Perhaps Strange was summoned by the Illuminati the moment he cast the spell and that's why he doesn't appear for the rest of the film. It would also make sense so, if Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man is in the movie, then Strange can reunite with him and not have Maguire's Spidey have to reintroduce himself for Strange to remember, as the No Way Home screenplay implies that people like MJ could possibly remember as she seemingly recognizes something in Peter at the end.

  • Unclear, though he does mention Spider-Man.

It will be established that Thomas Jane's Punisher is from the universe of Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man.
At the end of Spider-Man 2, as Mary Jane runs away from her engagement to John Jameson, while she runs through Central Park, Thomas Jane's stunt double from The Punisher (2004) is seen. According to the DVD Commentary, the character was intended to be Frank Castle, but contractual issues prevented Jane from filming the cameo, so his stunt double was hired instead. To not complicate things here, why not just establish Jane as belonging to Maguire's universe?
  • Jossed.

Illuminati Xavier is from the post-X-Men: Days of Future Past timeline, and will officially confirm Logan as being an Alternate Continuity to that one.
Maybe the time travel mess of X-Men: Days of Future Past altered his wheelchair's appearance?
  • Jossed.

Mordo will try (and possibly succeed) to kill Stephen, Wong, Wanda or anyone deemed magical
Mordo's plan of bringing an end to sorcerers will come to fruition. Mordo will shock everyone by attempting or actually taking out anyone with magical abilities, including Wanda. Mordo will feel justified for his actions, because of the multiverse spiraling out of control.
  • Mixed. The Mordo variant in the movie confronts Strange, but more for past experience as it's not the MCU's one. However. in a case of What Could Have Been,[[spoiler: MCU Mordo was originally going to attempt to kill Wanda at the start of the movie. But Wanda turns the tables, and decapitate Mordo (and she later show Mordo's head to Strange!!!)

Wanda will have a Heel–Face Turn for Real
After realizing of what her actions have done caused by the Darkhold, it is likely that she will regret them.

  • Confirmed.

The casting of Krasinski as Reed Richards
is a Fandom Nod and nothing more than thatLook, someone had to say it. Given that the Fantastic Four reboot movie has reportedly been pushed back, odds are that they haven't committed to a plan yet.
  • Partially Confirmed. While the verdict is still out on whether Krasinski will play the official MCU Reed Richards, Sam Ramini confirmed that the variant casting of was deliberate Fanservice.

Possible Mid-Credits Scene/Post-Credits Scene
With there being possibilities for what might set up for the future, there are some possibilities of what will happen in the Mid-Credits Scene/Post-Credits Scene.
  • The film will revealed to be a Xanatos Gambit by Kang the Conqueror. Even though he's seemingly all-powerful, even he can't take down all the Multiverse's heroes. So he set up Wanda Maximoff up as his pawn to take most of the out, leaving many worlds softened for an invasion.
    • Jossed.
  • The Sinister Six will appear in The Stinger.
As a prelude to a future Spider-Man crossover film, maybe they can tease the Sinister Six in The Stinger? Maybe they are formed by Sinister Strange (if he survives the movie) and that's why they are called the Sinister Six? If Sinister Strange is maybe an alternate version of Strange whose life was ruined by helping Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home, maybe he is their leader to get back at Spidey.
  • Jossed.
With the multiverse now being central in the MCU, what better way to tie-in with Loki (2021) (whose three leads are rumored to appear) and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania than featuring Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror in The Stinger? Even better, if Mobius appears in this film, he is now serving the new Time Variance Authority which Kang leads, so maybe Kang doesn't have to wait to appear after the credits.
  • Jossed.

    Post-Release Theories
The designation of the MCU will be retconned in a future instalment
  • The MCU was previously referred to as Universe #199999, however the Christine from Universe #838 refers to Strange being part of Universe #616. This causes a continuity issue, as #616 is the main universe for the Comics.
    • There being a multiverse doesn't mean every single iteration of a work from that franchise has to be part of the same multiverse. The fact the MCU was left alone from events such as the incursions and Secret Wars (and if those events are ever adapted, it's obvious that the MCU universe will be the one to stay existing at the end) means it was always a separate continuity in its entirety.
    • Or it'll be confirmed that while the rest of the Marvel multiverse calls the MCU Earth-199999, it's referred to as Earth-616 within the MCU's multiverse.
    • Or it could be explained that Palmer's team simply got the numbering wrong.
    • Or it's just a retcon, plain and simple as that.
    • Or - like MCU-America Chavez not having any counterparts, or the MCU-Darkhold being expunged from all universes - it's a way for the studio to decisively proclaim, now that they're going all-in on the multiverse concept, that the MCU isn't merely just another alternate universe existing alongside the comics, but that it's a totally separate continuity on all levels. So please give it a rest complaining when we do something different from the comic books, people!
    • Or, everyone from different universes counts universes differently.

Mordo from the MCU will be revisited in a possible Doctor Strange 3
  • Perhaps he learns of the incursion and teams up with an eldritch threat (Nightmare or maybe even Chthon) to battle against Strange and Clea.

Strange will track down the Sacred Timeline versions of Black Bolt, Professor X and Reed Richards to help him form a new Illuminati
Whatever threat Strange and Clea will be up against, they could use a little extra help. Stephen would serve as the counterpart to Supreme Strange, while Clea could either counter Captain Carter, Maria Rambeau, or Mordo.

Stephen will try to search for Billy and Tommy across the multiverse
  • Why would he? Unlike Wanda, he doesn’t have any reason to go search for a couple of boys he doesn’t know.

Mordo will recruit Nicodemus West in the third movie
  • This would fit with how the comics version of West was trained at Kamar-Taj and later became an enemy of Strange; considering that West is implicitly bitter at how Strange claims that his actions were supposedly the only way to save the universe, Mordo could play on those feelings to convince West to join him.

Not every version of the Darkhold was destroyed

Agatha will escape Westview and seek out Strange
  • Since Wanda's dead Agatha will be no longer be trapped.
    • Never Found the Body, who says she's actually dead?
    • Even if Wanda's alive, it's possible that the spell she cast on Agatha will weaken enough for her to break free. It could even be the start of House of Harkness.

Oswald is more famous than Mickey on earth 838
  • Either Mickey was never created or their roles in history are the opposite than the ones in our world.

Wanda will return
  • Considering that she was tapping the power of the Darkhold, she could have just been "displaced" rather than outright crushed.
    • On a meta level, recent storylines such as her use of the Darkhold and the Trial of Magneto could be intended to set a precedent for Wanda to be tainted by the Darkhold's influence and be subsequently redeemed of her sins through some great heroic act.
  • It's possible that, much like Hulk, the Scarlet Witch actually isn't allowed to die.
  • Even if the mainstream version doesn't return, the 838 variant may return. Or a variant from yet another universe can appear.
  • It's possible that Chthon kidnapped Wanda in the last second, leading to the 616 Billy and Tommy Maximoff (who are reborn in the same way as their comic counterparts) attempting to rescue her in a future movie. That movie can be the one giving birth to the Young Avengers team.

Earth-838 Mordo will team up with his MCU Variant, MCU Mordo
Since the Earth-838 Mordo does have a dislike to his own Strange, it could be possible for him to team up with MCU Mordo on stopping MCU Strange.

Alternately to the above, Strange won't have to find the Sacred Timeline versions of Black Bolt, Professor X, and Reed Richards.
He knows exactly where they are. Either because of his knowledge through Kamar-Taj, or because he knows them through other means. Comics Doctor Strange is friends with these people, so it would make sense he already knows them. When he's introduced to Reed, he snarks "Fantastic Four, wasn't your team charted in the 60's?" implying he already knows Reed. He makes fun of Black Bolt's costume and full name but doesn't seem all that surprised by him. Professor X he barely bats an eye at. Something tells me he already knows them or knows of them. He just leaves them in peace because Reed has a family, Black Bolt and the Inhumans are off planet, and ST Professor X may or may not be dead.
  • The comment about them charting in the 60s seemed to be referring to musical charts and might have just been because the name "Fantastic Four" reminded him of the Fab Four.
  • As mentioned in the main page, it's more likely a reference to the lesser-known 60's soul band also named The Fantastic Four.
  • Also Professor X is the only member of the Illuminati Strange doesn't snark at. Maybe he knows/knew ST Professor X or at the very least his reputation, and that's why he knows better than to snark at him. Or because he looks a lot like Patrick Stewart.

The real Wanda was the "838 Variant", while the "Darkhold Wanda was the variant all along.
Wanda seemed different than she was in WandaVision. She murders people without mercy. She tries to kill America for her own gain. And she's seemingly forgotten about the whereabouts of White Vision. While this could be blamed on the affect of the Darkhold, what if this wasn't the true Wanda at all? And instead the alternate variant was the REAL Wanda. How did this happen? Agatha. After breaking Wanda's spell on her, Agatha seeks revenge by going into the Multiverse and plucking out the Wanda variant in 838 and gaslighting her into beliving that she IS the real Wanda. Meanwhile, the real Wanda uses the Darkhold and find 838's Billy & Tommy, thinking they are HER children. So why the switcheroo? Agatha wanted to tarnish Wanda's reputation and if best, have Variant Wanda kill off the Real Wanda. And now with the Variant Wanda being blamed for everything, when the Real Wanda returns to the Sacred Timeline, she will be horrified by Agatha's machinations.
  • That sounds way too complicated to really work out. The film already says that Wanda was corrupted from using the Darkhold. And how would Agatha even be able to do the switch? While she could go to Earth-838 via Dreamwalking (which she would know about, having used the Darkhold before Wanda), she wouldn’t actually be able to take anything from there back to her universe. That was why Wanda was trying to get America’s powers in the first place.

America's Mothers will return as...well, "Mother"
Instead of being an extradimensional parasite hijacking the appearance of Teddy's adoptive mother, it will absorb the Chavez moms and try to use their appearance to manipulate America into freeing it. It'll still have the same parent-hypnotizing abilities as the comic version, however.

Gargantos was the offspring of the actual Shuma Gorath

America will leave Kamar-Taj behind to travel the world
It seems to be more her style - at least in the comics anyway.

If Chthon is the Big Bad of the next Doctor Strange film
He'll be played by an actor who has worked with Sam Raimi before, or someone who has shared the screen with Elizabeth Olsen before.

On Earth-838, Carol Danvers is the one who had a (now adult) daughter
  • Alternatively, after Maria’s mysterious disappearance, Carol took it upon herself to raise a now-orphaned Monica.

Kang the Conqueror will, well, conquer Earth-838
Not only are several of its most powerful champions dead, but it also has a futuristic utopia aesthetic that he'd probably appreciate enough to want it to be associated with him. It'll serve as his "throne world" where the MCU heroes will have to go to confront him when he becomes a major threat.

The reason America had never met or heard of Spider-Man is because the Inheritors had already consumed the ones native to the Earths she traveled to

838-Charles Xavier got involved in the war against Thanos because of his possession of the Mind Stone.
Thanos is shown to have claimed the Mind Stone on Earth-838 when we're shown his corpse in Charles's vision to Strange. And given how powerful it is on those who are brainwashed by its user, Charles's telepathic abilities were likely the only asset the Illuminati had in countering the Infinity Stone's influence.

Sara
is, or at least was, a member of Wakanda's Dora Milaje
  • She has a very particular African accent to her English that recalls the citizens of Wakanda. Her self-sacrifical heroism for a relative bit character is also very in line with how a Dora would behave in protecting her leader. There are a number of reasonable possibilities as to what she may have been doing at Kamar-Taj as well:
    • In the five-year period of the Snap/Blip/Decimation, Avengers: Endgame makes it apparent that the ranks of the sorcerers grew significantly, presumably with many of those left behind seeking purpose or answers at Kamar-Taj. She could well have been one of those people.
    • She could be there as an envoy by mutual agreement of Kamar-Taj and Wakanda after the battle with Thanos.
    • She may have left in the wake of whatever took place in-universe that killed T'Challa, who is all but confirmed to have died before the events of the upcoming Black Panther sequel.

There was a Greater-Scope Villain, we just never saw them.
The reason Wanda was after America in the first place is that the Darkhold convinced her it was the only way for her to get her children back, and it did this because the power behind the book wanted to use that power to rule the multiverse. There's a few theories involved in this:
  • The demon (or whatever) that created the book forsaw that a Scarlet Witch would appear in one of the universes, and that a child unique among the universes with great power would also appear. It created temples across the multiverses inscribed with spells that would become each universes version of the Darkhold.
  • Every universe's Wanda has the potential to become the Scarlet Witch, but 616 Wanda was the first one to get hold of the Darkhold and be vulerable to it's influences.
  • Others, like Strange, could use and be corrupted by the Darkhold, but the power behind it was specifically waiting for a Scarlet Witch Wanda to use it and end up coming to the temple it created to fufill the prophecy of her taking over the universes.
  • If Wanda had succeded in draining America's powers in the temple, the demon would have taken over. Even though Wanda's only wish was to be with her children again, it would have corrupted her and used her to conquer the multiverse.
  • The temple connects directly to the source of the Darkhold's power across all multiverses, which is why Wanda was able to destroy them all in the end.
Basically the creator of the Darkhold was the real threat all along, and a future installment will have Strange and America facing them directly. And maybe Wanda as well in a redemption arc.

  • Or maybe it was Karl Mordo who manipulated Wanda into getting ahold (no pun intended) of the Darkhold. He did say at the end of the first movie that there were "too many sorcerers."

The Scarlet Witch is the result the Darkhold was intended to create.
  • The spells were carved by Chthon in the temple from which the Scarlet Witch was supposed to rule the multiverse. Everything else the Darkhold and its copies have done is collateral damage. The real point was to give Wanda Maximov absolute cosmic power with a side dose of insanity.
  • A potentially related Easter Egg was spotted during the filmimg of Season 2 of Loki (2021). A movie poster teases a film called the "Zaniac", which is a references to the bloodthirsty villain of the same name in the comics. Zaniac is an entity who possess people and uses them as a puppets to commit murder. Could it be possible that Wanda became possessed by a version of the Zaniac after she used the Darkhold?

The reason Black Bolt was killed off so quickly was as a self-deprecatory Take That! to 'Inhumans
  • Someone on the writing staff either agreed with the general public opinion regarding the show, or disliked dhow it was basically Ike Perlmutter's attempt to "replace" the X-Men, or possibly both, and decided to make their opinion on the matter known by killing off Black Bolt.

Possible Title Ideas for Doctor Strange 3
With the third film of Doctor Strange presumably announced, and since the second film was titled Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness, there could be some possibilities of what titles Doctor Strange 3 might be titled.

  • Doctor Strange in the Dark Dimension: The mid-credits scene shows Clea meeting Strange and opening a portal to the Dark Dimension, so it wouldn’t be that much of a stretch for this to be the third film’s title.
  • Doctor Strange in the Nation of Nightmares: Fans have been clamoring for Nightmare to appear for a good while now, so just thought I'd put it out there.

Strange is able to use dark magic after briefly using the Darkhold.
Specifically, because he used it to possess his alternate self’s dead body, he can now use necromancy.

Charles knew Wanda personally, which is why he didn't see her as a threat.

Professor X didn't underestimate Wanda as much as assume that she wouldn't hurt him. In their universe, Wanda was raised by Erik Lehnsherr and Magda Maximoff and even if Erik went full villain Magneto at some point, she still saw Charles as an uncle figure, she probably attended his school too. He didn't realize main Wanda hasn't even met Magneto yet, and has no attachment to either of them.

838-Pietro exists, and he's a Cool Uncle to 838-Wanda's kids.

America Chavez will one day succeed Strange and Wong as Earth's Sorceror Supreme.

In addition to her prodigious natural power, at the end she is shown training as a student at Kamar-Taj, with her exhibiting similar learning difficulties as Strange did when he began his training, thereby foreshadowing her path being similar to that of Strange.

Dr. West is more than he seems
He's been a fairly minor character, but they made a point to include him in Multiverse of Madness and show the tension between him and Strange. Now why is that? I think it's possible that West may end up becoming more relevant in the next ''Doctor Strange'' film, with his appearance at Christine and Charlie's wedding meant to remind us he exists so it isn't too out of left field. Given that he's actually a villainous White Mage in the comics, he may take the role of a secondary antagonist.

If Earth-838 is ever destroyed or decimated, Campbell's vendor will be shown to be one of the only survivors
He'll introduce his pizza balls to the rest of the MCU, where it'll become very popular.

Potential Villains
  • Mordo: We could learn about the offscreen clashes he's had with Strange. His daughter Astrid could be introduced as his new ally in his crusade against Strange.
  • Chthon: He could return to try and create a new Darkhold, putting him in conflict with Strange.
  • Nightmare: He was rumored for Multiverse of Madness but didn't appear. Perhaps he's being saved for the future?
  • Dormammu: The original could return (and break his bargain with Strange) or a variant of him could be introduced. Either way he'll be the flaming headed humanoid monster from the comics this time around.
  • Barbara Robb/Dream Weaver: A villainess who can alter reality could make for a decent opponent for Strange and Clea.
  • Nicodemus West: As suggested above.
  • The Imperator: A multiversal madman out to destroy all magic? That'd definitely be someone who'd go after Strange.
  • Umar: Clea's mother who rules the Dark Dimension.

The Pizza Poppa guy is their universe's Quentin Beck
Bruce Campbell was supposed to play Mysterio in the Raimiverse. After being fired by Stark, the guy decided to sell pizza balls on the street.

In the Sacred Timeline 616 Strange wasn't meant to use the Darkhold to save America Chavez
  • He was either a) supposed to kill her - eliminating a threat to Kang's dimensional supremacy - or b) have Christine help him punch his way out of an already decayed universe without its help. Now that he's been contaminated by the Darkhold 616 has gone dangerously Off the Rails.
    • Alternatively, the events of the movie weren't supposed to happen, as the TVA made sure to prevent anything from diverging from the Sacred Timeline. But following the events of Loki, it's clear that whatever they intended for the ST was thrown way off course thanks to the multiverse.

The Universe that the Illuminati's Strange destroyed using the Darkhold to stop Thanos was home to...

The Living Tribunal exists in four dimensional space
His higher than usual number of heads is a result of being perceived by four dimensional beings.

MCU Doctor Strange will finally learn about the sixth visitor
While he still doesn’t know that there was a sixth visitor, it is likely that either later or sometime before or after the Second Spider-Man Trilogy or so, he’ll figure out and realize that there was a sixth visitor, who was SSU Venom/Eddie Brock.

With the Darkhold destroyed in all universes, Strange-616 won't have to worry about paying an enternal price for using The Darkhold...or will he?
Were the souls of the damned telling the truth or just trying to intimidate Strange-616 because he "cheated death" and these souls also wanted to live again and angry with jealousy? Considering how untrustworthy the intelligence behind the Darkhold is, taking input derived from it at face value would be unwise.

Earth-838 and the Illuminati will return.
For a Secret War event to have any emotional impact, the universes fighting for survival must be properly developed. Earth-838 received lots of focus and with lots of potentially interesting characters such as the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and the Inhuman. It would serve Marvel well to develop 838 further so when the time comes for 616 vs 838, the audience is properly invested in both of them.

Wanda got Reed Richards to reveal Black Bolt's powers.
This is a good possibility, since Reed Richards is claimed to be the smartest man alive on Earth-838. He wouldn't have blabbed to Wanda about Black Bolt's powers like that, so this could only mean that Wanda must've somehow used her Magic on Reed to make him reveal what the Illuminati were going to do to her.

Incursions were the other cause of the First Multiversal War.
He Who Remains's story makes it seem that the conflict came from some of his Variants being conquerors, but he also states that there was peace at first, implying just as many Variants were "good", yet his story seems to imply every one of them turned against each other and went to such extreme measures as erasing entire universes out of existence. Given that we know Incursions are caused by multiversal travel, the sheer amount of Nathaniel Richardses interacting with each other would inevitably have sparked plenty of them.

Wanda's Boys
Their Kiddie Kid personality is the result of her stunting their development (consciously or not) at a much lower age when she's the most important figure in their lives: they can't grow up because she can't let them to grow up.

Wanda will be found alive and joins the Thunderbolts
After she is found alive, how will Wanda be redeemed in the MCU? She is given a last chance opportunity by working for the Thunderbolts. While Wanda is not a member of the Thunderbolts in the comics (yet), the MCU will retool the Thunderbolts origin story to include Wanda, thus beginnings her redemption arc.

The Utopian Parallel and its natives are Incursion-proof.
America has been to 72 universes prior to the film, and there's no indication that she caused any Incursions. Plus, it's doubtful Marvel will reveal she indirectly destroyed those universes if they want to keep her sympathetic even if it was unintentional. Perhaps the Utopian Parallel, for whatever reason, is exempt from the normal consequences of multiversal travel.

Why Sinister Strange was the Sole Survivor of his universe.
As he brought upon this fate on his universe for his careless usage of the Darkhold, Death herself purposefully didn't claim him as Cruel Mercy, so he could forever live with the guilt and shame of what he wrought. He also couldn't kill himself because of this. The reason why he dies in this movie is because Death didn't predict visitors from other Earths coming in and killing him.

The reason that 'our' Wanda didn't have kids is that she fell in love with Vision, who can't procreate.

    Sequel Theories
As a potential multiverse idea, the series may implement its own take on The Backrooms.
It would be in its own continuity with its own canon naturally, but there could be a Shout-Out to the web series and play with the idea that the stories on the web were inspired by real incidents of people no-clipping out of the universe into a "Backrooms" and returning to tell their tale. With the CGI prowess of the Marvel film studio, we could get some breath-taking interpretations of the Backrooms.

The sequel will be a Crossover with another non-MCU cinematic universe.
In the same way Spider-Man: No Way Home was a crossover between two previous cinematic universes against the backdrop of a multiversal crisis, the impending Incursion will involve a Marvel movie universe that previously was separate from the MCU. Given the supernatural nature of the character, some possibilities are Blade and/or Ghost Rider.

America Chavez and variants of Wanda's sons
will appear in a Young Avengers' adaptation
  • MCU versions of other members of the group had already appeared, as Cassie Lang, Kid Loki, Eli Bradley and Kate Bishop.
    • Adding onto this, how can Kid Loki join the team when he's still stuck in the Void, which is at the end of time itself? America can create portals anywhere across the multiverse, so it isn't impossible to assume she can do the same with time.
    • Alternatively, Kid Loki and the others stuck in the void can be rescued by Adult Loki, who has access to TVA's resources.
    • Yet another possibility involves one of the group founders, Iron Lad, who's a time traveller. Although the character hasn't appeared in the MCU yet, he's a younger version of Kang in the comics, and a variant of Kang, He Who Remains, had already appeared in Loki, while the "main" Kang is confirmed to be in the next Ant-Man film, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Given that the end of Loki caused the reemerging of Kang's variants, it's possible that Iron Lad is one of them and rescues Kid Loki to help in the fight against his evil self/selves.

Bruce Campbell's cameo was foreshadowing.
In this film, Bruce Campbell makes a cameo as a food vendor that gets into an argument with Strange and America when she steals from him in Earth-838.While it's possible that Bruce only showed up for a cameo (and an Evil Dead reference when Strange makes his own hand attack him) as a favor from Sam Raimi, it could also be a wink and a nod that we might see him again. This isn't the first time ole' Bruce appeared in a Marvel property, having been confirmed by Word of God to been Raimiverse-Mysterio stalking Peter 2, so it's possible that we will see him again. More specifically, his Sacred Timeline counterpart. If we're lucky, he won't just be another One-Scene Wonder. Johnny Blaze, maybe? He'd be the most Ash Williams-y option available.

Dr. Strange will give an Ironic Echo to himself.

He'll say "In the grand calculus of the Multiverse, my sacrifice means infinitely more than my life" right before performing a Heroic Sacrifice.

Wanda's Redemption Arc.

Wanda is alive and well get a redemption arc through breaking the cycle of grief and revenge. She killed Reed Richards, arguably the weakest member of his family. Mrs. Fantastic is, in many continuities, by far the most powerful of the four, with her force fields being absolute, completely customizable, and able to be conjured anywhere, even inside an opponent's body for an instant kill. Then you have Franklin, their son, who is to the Scarlet Witch what she is to a random goober at Kamar-Taj. He is a reality warper of absurd strength. Him versus non-darkhollow Wanda is not a fight. It's pest control. They'll be gunning after Wanda with vengeance and the full backing of their universe. Wanda's quest will be getting them to take her peacefully into custody rather than killing her and continuing the cycle of grief.

Dormammu will return for the third entry and/or final installment
With Dormammu being Clea's Uncle, it would be an easy way to factor the foe back into Strange's story. Not only is Dormamamu is still alive in the MCU, but his return would also serve as a proper bookend to Strange's story arc.
  • Kaecilius and his zealots could return, Kaecilius serving as a Darth Vader Shout-Out with his burnt-out appearance and magical experience and might be given an outfit that has nods to Darth Vader. Alternatively, Kaecilius could be a nod to Darth Sion as a "Lord of Pain". After all, Kaecilius and his followers got pulled into the Dark Dimension, opening the possibility that they may be sent back somehow to make up for failing the first time.

Clea won't return for the third entry
Just like 616 Mordo, by the time we get around to another Doctor Strange sequel enough time will passed that Doctor Strange will have solved the incursion entirely off-screen.
  • Originally 616 Mordo was slated to appear in the beginning of the film, as one of Wanda's early victims. It was cut for unknown reasons, but the dramatic reveal of Wanda's villianous turn and Mordo's overall arc are likely factors.

Dr Strange and Clea will appear elsewhere in the MCU before Dr. Strange 3
Much like most major MCU characters (including Strange himself), Dr. Strange & Clea will appear in another property before the third installment. This might be in a cameo role, like Strange's appearance in Thor: Ragnorok. Or in a significant supporting role like Strange's appearance in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The Black Priests will get involved.
For those not in the know, the Black Priests are an order of extremely powerful otherworldly beings who destroy the Earths involved in Incursions in order to save the greater universes they were a part of. With Strange having started an Incursion, the Black Priests will arrive. Strange joining them like in the comics may or may not happen.

Madisynn from "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law" will appear in Doctor Strange 3.
After scene stealing Madisynn became drinking friends with her "Wongers" in 'She-Hulk: Attorney at Law', she will make a small appearance in the third Doctor Strange film. And unfortunately for Wong, she will still casually drop TV spoilers to Wong.

    Just For Fun
Misc. alternate universe ideas.
  • Dr. Strange's car accident was even worse, injuring his body so badly, he sought the help of Tony Stark. Perhaps he managed his money better just in case of an emergency like this too. Tony rebuilds Dr. Strange into Cyber Strange, but Dr. Strange wants to feel even more alive, so still seeks out the Ancient One to learn magic and regain more of his senses in his cyber body in a magical sense. The success of Dr. Strange's cybernetics become a marvel for medical research, and Dr. Strange's relationship with Tony Stark starts off on better terms thanks to Tony saving Dr. Strange's life.
    • Dr. Strange may learn how to perform enchantment, infusing magical properties into his armor and augmenting his capabilites over time.
  • A universe where there's a Cyber Thanos, because he could be even more formidable with his own spin on an Iron Man suit.
  • A universe with a RoboCop variant on the Avengers:
    • The universe(s) is lighter and softer to fit the tone of the MCU overall and still has plenty of satire to go around. Alex Murphy would likely have upgrades by Stark Industries and primarily use related weaponry. It might be a way to have an Author's Saving Throw to improve upon RoboCop (2014) and build upon that film's setting. Peter Weller's RoboCop could be in the same crossover simultaneously, with him interacting with Joel Kinnaman's RoboCop and both commenting on each other's machinery.
    • The ED-209 and EM-208 could very well have been enhanced with the technology from Ultron and been a large enough success to serve as units in the Infinity War. These iterations don't have the problem of attacking surrendering targets or targets of insufficient threat, but have more light-hearted amusing quirks to fit the MCU tone.
  • A universe where people age at varying rates, with some staying the same age for years. In other words, a universe that operates on Comic-Book Time.
  • A universe where Christine was the one who got injured in a car accident, going to Kamar-Taj to seek treatment.
  • A universe where the Avengers, the Spider-people, the X-Men, and Fantastic Four all coexist, but is differentiated from 838 by otherwise being identical to 616, no reverse traffic lights, backstory machines, or trees everywhere. In other words, if Marvel never sold the movie rights to Sony and Fox to begin with.

The Rocketeer is canon with Earth 838.
  • C'mon...just look at Captain Carter's jetpack. It looks like an upgraded version of the Cirrus X3 rocket pack from the 1991 film.

Does this technically mean that Princess Luna is viewing alternate universes (and helping ponies in them) via a safe method of Dreamwalking?

Universes where super heroes have more embarrassing nicknames.
  • Peter Parker ended up calling himself "The Human Spider". The other variants tease him about this, with Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man really finding it amusing.
  • Doctor Octopus really is called Dr. Strange, leading to confusion when Stephen Strange is present in some way.
  • There is a variant of the Avengers called The Pre-vengers, who bend the rules about heroes to more effectively fight Thanos, leading to the team being a group of anti-heroes.

There's a "real" world.
Somewhere in the multiverse, there is a world that is completely mundane. It is a world where the MCU is a smash movie juggernaut, and the X-Men film series, Spider-Man Trilogy, and Amazing Spider-Man Duology, and Spider-Verse series are similarly part of the Marvel craze. There are no real superheroes, no real supervillains, no real aliens, no real magic, no real superpowers. This world is completely lacking in superpowered individuals. Well, except for two people. Their names are Clyde Wyncham and Gwen Poole.

Dreams aren’t always glimpses into alternate realities.
It’s only that way for magic users, or those with a strong connection to the multiverse, such as Spider-Man, presumably.
