Played By: Esther Zynn
Princess Astral is a teenage girl next in line to be the 250th ruler of the 7th realm — and her homeland — Athenia, but she gets curious about the human life in the "other" world mainly due to a high-school boy named Tristan and decides to travel to the human world for the full experience, disguising herself as an ordinary teenage girl. She has to make a choice after 90 days in the human world, between whether to stay in the human world forever, or return home and become Athenia's newest queen. She's loves learning about the "others" lifestyles and can't always keep her fairy powers in check.
  • Aesop Amnesia: No matter how many times she messes things up or screws others over, she could never quite learn that charming people and forcing love and adoration towards others with her fairy powers (and especially towards herself) is never a good idea. Granted, she's a teenager and she never actively tries to bring harm, but she'd always try to justify her attempts and doesn't a take responsibility for her errors.
  • All for Nothing: She spends the entire first season chasing after Tristan in the other world and starting a proper relationship. In fact, it's her whole motive of traveling to the other world in the first place. Unfortunately, when Astral finally manages to start a proper date and reveals her true heritage to him in the season finale, he turns out to be the long-lost fairy prince of Spartania — her kingdom's archrival — destined to bring disaster to Athenia. Tristan's forcibly taken back to Spartania against his will, and Astral's forbidden from seeing him again. In other words, all her efforts in working up the nerve to hang out with him and learning human interests were all for naught.
  • All-Loving Heroine: She always tries her best to see the good in people, even if she may not necessarily like them or agree with their ideas. And in general, she's very loving, warm-hearted and considerate to others, despite her ocassional screw-ups.
  • Badass Adorable: Thomas Lynch stated he cast Esther Zynn in particular to play Astral because she "had the innocence Lynch wanted, along with a quiet strength that sold him on her being able to rule a hypothetical world."
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She's optimistic, caring, a Friend to All Living Things, and has a good heart, however, don't forget that she's still a fairy and is capable of some pretty dangerous power and abilities. She can be quite terrifying when she's upset.
  • Blue Is Heroic: Her fairy sprite is associated with the color blue, and she's warm, considerate, optimistic and always willing to do what's right.
  • Cannot Tell a Lie: Being a fairy, she has an inability to lie or be dishonest in any way. Morgan even uses this against Astral when she first discovers Astral's a fairy. Astral's often able to work around this using Exact Words where she technically tells the truth, just not the full truth.
  • Character Development: She first comes to the human realm because of her crush on Tristan, but that becomes less important as she becomes her own independent woman to the fairies and inhabitants of her realm.
  • Clashing Cousins: Astral's shown to not always like Brendoni considering how much of a douchebag and a slob he can be.
  • Conflicting Loyalty: She's emotionally torn apart over whether she should stay in her magical kingdom of Athenia to be their newest queen, or stay in the human world to live as an "other" forever. Part of the show's central conflict is how she'd have to make a choice after 90 days.
  • Determinator: She'll never give up or turn her back on her people when there are various things at stake. She'll stand her ground and face the threat head on, which her parents would admire about her.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Everything you need to know about Astral is there within the pilot. She and Brendoni are seen playfully observing the "other" world as sprites, and while there Astral saves a boy named Tristan from a dangerous gymnastics trick. When the two of them get back to their homeland in Athenia, Astral argues with her cousin Brendoni saying that not all "others" were bad, and not too long afterward, when she's caught by her parents and forced to admit she sneaked off to the human world, she admits she has a crush on Tristan from afar, can't share her parents' distrust of humanity, and flies away in anger after getting in an argument with her mother about humanity's ways. This establishes right off the bat that Astral's a mildly mischievous girl, but she has a good heart and is more open-minded to humanity than her kind, and isn't afraid to stand her ground for her beliefs.
  • Fatal Flaw:
    • Impulsiveness. Her major issue is the fact that she doesn't think her plans things through very often, and tends to act before she thinks. Oftentimes, she constantly tries to "help" others out without precaution and runs into situations and the end result is usually not good. There's also her addiction to Tristan in various episodes and how she'd often try to force Tristan to love him, which she would drop in later episodes.
    • Relating to the example listed above, there's also Astral's obsession with romance and her overreliance with love spells as well as her inability to comprehend what harm she'd bring. The second episode has Astral try to help out Devon with his issue of being "invisible" by charming three girls with different personalities into falling in love with him, only for Devon to be terrified of their uncontrolled love, and for things to get worse when the girls found out Devon was triple dating; Another episode has her get upset with Tristan coming to a party with Hailey, and since Astral couldn't charm Tristan for herself she got Brendoni to create a potion to have Tristan fall for her, but the love gets out of control, beyond what she could handle, to the point where she asks Brendoni to end the spell. But she doesn't learn from either of those experiences as she blamed the former on Devon being picky and the latter on troll magic being unreliable. Then she tries a third time, charming the entire school into falling in love, just to try getting Tristan to believe in love, all that does is make things crazier and temporarily get the school dance cancelled.
  • Fish out of Water: She constantly has to adjust to her new surroundings and is greatly amazed by some of her observations.
  • Foreign Exchange Student: How Astral managed to pass off as an "other" and (mostly) blend in. Ironically, she winds up taking the place of Winston Althazar, a British student who was supposed to be Devon's original exchange student.
  • Friend to All Living Things: She's often been shown to care about plants and animals so much, she treats them as individual beings, and not so different from humans. She can even communicate with them.
  • Girls Love Chocolate: She's seen eating for the first time at the beginning of episode 3, and she loves every second of it, especially she's never had access to any during her time in Athenia.
  • Granola Girl: She's super upbeat, and often an environmental spiritualist due to her home life. She even became a vegetarian.
  • Heavenly Blue: She's a warm, friendly and generous girl, and her fairy sprite just happens to be blue.
  • Jerkass Ball: Normally Astral's such a considerate, friendly, and well-meaning girl, so it's a huge shocker when she winds up becoming overly competitive, and uncaring in "Bad Bad Fairy" when playing some dodgeball. Although in this case, it's partially justified in that Astral's never played any competitive sports prior to that point, and as a fairy, she had a hidden dark side that could corrupt her if her emotions get too negative. Thankfully, she realizes what she was doing thanks to some talking down from Morgan, and snaps out of her side, returning to her warm, benevolent self.
  • Loving a Shadow: She initially loves Tristan from afar, and her main motivation to become human is in the hopes that she can get to know him as a person to see if he feels the same way about her.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • "Astral" means of or relating to the stars, and Astral herself is certainly interested in the night sky of her homeland Athenia, as well as nature in general.
    • According to her, her parents named her after a peacock they knew, so in a way, her name can also refer to how in touch she is with certain animals — to the point where she can speak fluently with them.
  • Mystical White Hair: When she's not in her human disguise, and is wearing her proper Athenian outfit, her hair is a strong, solid white. And wouldn't you know it, she just happens to be an all-powerful fairy princess.
  • Nature Lover: Growing up in Athenia surrounded by various kinds of trees and flowers, she came to deeply care for and respect nature. She maintains this aspect even as goes to the Other World as she's not only very loving and protective over various trees and flowers, she's also very knowledgeable about what they need to thrive.
  • Nice Girl: She's just as warm-hearted and selfless as you'd expect a fairy to be. Even if she does occasionally get envious or doesn't think her plans through, she still overall has a good heart.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: When she first arrives in the human world, she was pretty touchy towards Devon as she was adjusting to her new life. She pretty much loses this trait after properly getting adjected to the other world.
  • Only One Name: She's never given a surname, considering the fantasy kingdom she's part of.
  • Plucky Girl: Nickelodeon's character page describes her as being "headstrong, impulsive and endlessly curious"
  • Power-Strain Blackout: She uses a large amount of her powers at once, when she tries to make the entire student body at school fall in love with those around them, hoping Tristan would notice and admire the affectation. Unfortunately, fairies aren't supposed to use so much of their powers at once, and the usage proved to be too much for Astral to manage. Although she doesn't faint from the power usage, she does get very sleepy from it and unable to function properly, talking in a way that made her sound drunk.
  • Princess Protagonist: Naturally. Although her issue is that she's initially resistant on being a future queen, and the series is about her Conflicting Loyalty over whether or not to go back and be the ruler.
  • Queen Incognito: She's a princess maserquading as an ordinary teenage girl, although she's not very good at hiding her fairy powers.
  • Rebellious Princess: In the pilot episode, she's aware that she's next in line to be queen the Athenia one day, but unlike her parents, she doesn't enjoy causing mischief and trouble to humans/"others" mainly due to falling in love with Tristan, and despite her parents and insisting that humans were dangerous, she decides to travel to the other world out of curiosity. Although her parents do allow her a 90-day walk, and to make a decision on whether or not to be their Queen.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: She's the princess of Athenia, and she already shows how loyal, bold and brave she is, as she's not afraid to take a stand or call out whether somebody does something unjust, or try to talk somebody out of placing her homeland in danger or destroying it — even by harmless, non-hostile methods — all worthy qualities fit for a true ruler. When Athenia's in danger of being destroyed by Mr. Quince, rather than just returning to Athenia and leaving her parents to fend the threat, she stays in the human world and takes matters into her own hands. Also, the penultimate Season 1 episode has Astral gather a group of people (via creating a trendy cat video with a message to save Evermoor Woods on the internet, but still) who would rally on the day of the planned destruction and rebel against the woods' destruction, and Astral would personally encourage the crowd to form a chain that would block the bulldozer meant to tear the main tree down.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: She's capable of not only communicating, but having full conversations with various kinds of animals, and even plants.
  • Spoiled Sweet: She's the princess of Athenia with a level of power and authority, and yet she never flaunts her position or makes anyone else — including her subjects — feel inferior to her. She's optimistic, passionate and genuinely nice towards towards everyone, even her enemies.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: Astral and Tristan are deeply in affection and love for each other, and Tristan turns out to be a fairy just like Astral. The problem? Tristan's not just from a different tribe but from Athenia's (Astral's homeland) rival tribe Spartania, with neither side can standing each other. So Tristan was forced back to Spartania by his father to one day reign havoc over Athenia, and Astral had to leave to "other" world to return to Athenia. Ouch.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Her smooth white skin and Mystical White Hair is clearly a gene Astral picked up from her mother's side. They look pretty similar in terms of appearance
  • Virtuous Vegetarianism: Being from a nature-themed fairy kingdom, Astral's a vegetarian who refuses to eat any form of meat, due to being extremely in touch with animals. This further showcases just how loving, protective and good-hearted she is
  • Weirdness Magnet: When Astral's around in the human world, nothing's ever normal. Morgan and Devon constantly find out the hard way with Astral's various schemes, and sometimes a magical resident arriving at the other world. Hailey and Tristan would even lampshade how much of a weirdo Astral is a couple of times on the show.
     Morgan Tracey

Morgan Tracey

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_other_kingdom_character_007_thumbnail_550x5101.png
Played By: Celina Martin
Morgan's a friendly, optimistic girl who's obsessed with anything fairy-related and has a vast knowledge of their ways. So naturally, when she's the first person to discover Astral's fairy powers, she quickly becomes her #1 BFF and a loyal companion.
  • All There in the Script: Her surname is never spoken out loud in the series, but was revealed in a promotional video.
  • Best Friend: Due to Morgan's love of all things fairy-related and vast knowledge, she quickly becomes companions with Astral upon finding out the latter also had an interest in fairy culture, and even more so when she found out she is a fairy not too long afterward. She'd show Astral some of the wonders of the human world, give her some helpful advice over hanging out with Tristan, show her some fun teenager activities, vow to protect her secret, and her from anyone who tries to figure it out or go after her, show concern for her well-being when Astral's upset or acting strange, and overall she'd have her best interests at heart and always have Astral's back.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She may be optimistic, excitable, and an all-around pleasant person, but like most people, she's definitely got her limits, and if you're unlucky enough to have her reach said limit, you'll be sorry.
  • Deuteragonist: Alongside Devon, her role in the narrative is second in terms of importance, considering she's one of Astral's of her closest friends, the first person to discover her secret and a vast fairy expert.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Her first scene onscreen has her instantly apologize after Hailey knocks into her, and offers to pick up her papers. This quickly establishes that she's a kind-hearted girl, who lacks self-confidence.
  • Fiery Redhead: She's super upbeat and excitable but she tends to have a very feisty side when one of her buttons gets pushed. She's shown that she has very little patience towards Devon and Brendoni's antics and isn't afraid to call either of them out for their actions which they tend to get into.
  • Friendless Background: Morgan once told Astral that she didn't have a lot of friends growing up, and her father would give her a book about fairies and tell her she'd never be lonely if she believed in fairies, as a way to console her, which is how she gained her obsession over anything-fairy related.
  • Genki Girl: She always gets super hyperactive around various fairy heritage
  • Muggle Best Friend: She's an ordinary high school girl who's best friends with a fairy princess.
  • Secret-Keeper: She becomes the first human to discover Astral's fairy identity in the third episode, but she's perfectly cool with it due to her childhood love of fairies.
  • Two First Names: Her surname "Tracey" can also be used as a first name.
     Devon Quince

Devon Randolf Quince

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/devonquince.jpg
Played By: Taylor Adams
Devon Quince is a low-key high-schooler, with organization on the brains, and a knack for geography, who winds up taking in Astral as part of a student exchange program, and as he befriends her and aids her through high school, he quickly comes to realize just how strange and unusual she is.
  • The Ace: He's one of the brightest students in his class and often calls himself a "geography genius", although he has the grades and knowledge to back his claim up.
  • Brainy Brunette: He's got brown hair, and has shown to be incredibly smart in geography, plus a master chess player.
  • Deuteragonist: Alongside Morgan, his role in the narrative is second in terms of importance, considering he's Astral's student exchange mentor, roommate, and one of her closest friends.
  • Does Not Like Magic: He spent his entire life growing up as a realist, being a very smart student, while obsessing over order and being able to keep things under control. And unlike Morgan, he's less than pleased to discover Astral was a fairy princess, or that Brendoni was part-fairy-part-troll. And even after he gets over that, he freaked out again over finding out his father was a fairy, and that he inherited some of his dad's fairy genes. He tries to get over it, but he's clearly shown to not be happy about being directly linked to magic.
  • Faint in Shock: How he reacts to first finding out her roommate Astral was actually an all-powerful fairy.
  • Fatal Flaw: His desire to be loved or appreciated by his classmates. Devon may be a talented student with mostly great grades, but he's secretly pretty lonely and was shown to be mostly another student to others. It's his insecurites about his reputation among others that allows him to take Brendoni's advice to "walk on the wild side", create a fake identity and lie about his personality just to have a massive fan crowd in high school. He also gets grounded for the out-of-control house party.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: In the second half of the first season, it's revealed that Devon's father was actually Fairy King Oberon's older brother, and that he had abandoned the fairy world to marry a mortal woman and give birth to Devon. This means that Devon has partially inherited his father's fairy abilities making Devon half-human and half-fairy. Although we still have yet to see him get his wings or use any fairy powers.
  • I Am Who?: Let's just say, he doesn't react very well to finding out his father was actually a fairy who abandoned royalty to stay in the human world and give birth to him. This would mean that Devon was actually half-fairy and he'd be getting a set of wings soon.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Even though he prefers "flying under the radar" and not trying to follow Icarus, he still occasionally wants to be noticed and appreciated by his classmates. It's gotten to the point where he once took advantage of an out-of-control house party to become the party king "Devo", once he realized what this would mean. In addition to that, he once created a fake identity and lied about his personality just to have a massive fan crowd in high school. It takes Hailey and Morgan bringing Devon down to earth in order for Devon to renounce his giant lie.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: For the first half of Season 1, he has no idea that his "foreign exchange student" was actually a fairy princess from another land, or than her cousin was actually part-troll, or really anything relating to magic, despite his close friend Morgan knowing the truth for quite some time. This gets remedied in the 12th episode which Astral and Morgan finally open up to him about Astral's secret, and he faints from shock when he first finds out.
  • Muggle Best Friend: Like Morgan, he's a regular high school student whose best friend and roommate happens to be a fairy princess. In fact, he may play this trope even straighter than Morgan, since she at least has a vast knowledge of fairy culture. Devon, on the other hand, has no prior knowledge of their culture and doesn't want any part of it, so he's less than pleased to find out his whole world is being turned upside down with Weirdness Magnets Astral and Brendoni as his new roommates, to say nothing about them being his cousins.
  • Neat Freak: In stark contrast to Brendoni's messy nature, Devon's shown to be obsessed with staying as tidy and organized as possible, to the point were he didn't even finger-paint as a child, as he claimed it was too messy. Needless to say, he's not happy when he first comes across Brendoni.
  • Opposites Attract: Despite having a rough first meeting, Devon and Brendoni start to become close companions and rather fond of each other's ways, even though Devon's obsessed with organization and tidiness, and Brendoni's a total slob. And even though Devon won't admit it, he tends to occasionally not mind Brendoni's presence and influence on him, despite not always approving of them.
  • Order Versus Chaos: He plays the "order" role to his roommate Brendoni's "chaos" loving nature.
  • Secret-Keeper: He becomes the second person after Morgan to discover Astral's true identity.
  • Smart People Play Chess: He's often stated that he enjoys playing chess during recreational periods.
  • Terrified of Germs: He takes the tidiness of his personal stuff extremely seriously, and isn't a huge fan of getting dirty or contaminated.
    • Devon's reaction to getting so much as a mild cold? Over-dramatize the situation and act like he's bedridden, that his organs are unable to move, and that he's only got to few days to live.
  • Unwitting Muggle Friend: He plays this role in the first half of Season 1, thinking Astral was a foreign exchange student from England, and being completely in the dark about her being a fairy or the princess of her homeland. He learns the truth in "Let Their Be Cake", when he gets frustrated with Astral seemingly sabotaging his dad's plans for the environmental center without a good cause.
     Brendoni

Brendoni

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_other_kingdom_character_002_thumbnail_550x5101.png
Click here to see him as a troll.
Played By: Matt Burns (troll); Adam Peddle ("other")
Astral's cousin who's a literal troll (or rather, half-troll and half-fairy) , and Athenia's resident prankster and trouble maker. He's sent to Athenia to bunk with Astral as a last resort to get him to care about humanity and respect their ways.
  • All Trolls Are Different: Contrary to popular beliefs, he doesn't live under a bridge, and he's never asked for a riddle — he prefers knock-knock jokes.
  • Big Eater: Oh yeah, being a troll, Brendoni has a massive appetite. He's capable of devouring down a meal's worth of food in little to no time flat. Devon even asks how he's able to eat so much in so little time.
Devon: How many stomachs does this guy have?
  • Character Development: He begins the series as a mischief-loving trouble maker who doesn't like "others" viewing them as foolish and mainly seeing them as his to mess with. Although, as the series goes on he comes to genuinely care about Devon and the others and would become a rather good and loyal friend to the group (while still partially keeping his mischievous side), coming to care about the "others". Although being Brendoni, he'd always deny this whether it's brought up.
  • Dumb Muscle: Being a troll, he's got strength that's vastly superior to that of a human, although he's still not very bright in the smarts department considering he can't do basic math, and is prone to constantly messing up.
  • The Exile: After several failed attempts from King Oberon to convince Brendoni to show humanity why it needed fairies and vice versa — which Brendoni would ignore due to his lack of respect for "others" — he's banished to the human realm as a final resort until he learns to properly care for "others"/humans and respect their ways.
  • Extreme Omnivore: As a troll, Brendoni's shown to have a colossal appetite, and he'll eat pretty much anything, even stuff that isn't food. This is especially displayed when he nearly devours Winston whole.
  • Fake Guest Star: His actor's name never appears in the opening credits, even though he's a series regular and plays just as large a role as Astral and Devon.
  • Hidden Depths: Who would have guessed that such a slob like Brendoni would be such an amazing chef?
  • I Am a Monster: He finds his troll form to be attractive and awesome, but he hates his fairy form seeing it as a monster.
  • Jabba Table Manners: Being a literal troll, Brendoni often proves to be an extremely messy eater who doesn't even bother to clean up after himself or use proper etiquette. On top of that, he tends to eat insanely quickly.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He may be a troll in both terms of the word, but even with his rough ends, he's still ultimately a well-meaning guy who deeply cares about his cousin and her loved ones. He even comes to genuinely care about the "others" and the ways of life, particularly having a bro relationship with Devon, and that's before discovering they were related.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: During an argument he had with Oberon and Titania about humanity's relationship with their kind, he points out that humanity didn't deserve their protection since they "[didn't] give monkey's butt about anything" and that they wrecked their world and didn't care about the mess they had made.
  • Nobody Touches the Hair: He doesn't like it when other people touch his hair, claiming it takes minutes to gel it to its perfection.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: Like Astral, he has issues with personal space when he first arrives in the human world, except he's an even more extreme example as he'd personally invade "others'" personal businesses. Thankfully, he gets better.
  • Non-Human Humanoid Hybrid: He's stated to be half-troll-half-fairy and his parents were implied to be a fairy mother and a troll father, and he was shown to inherit traits from both of his parents with both fairy and troll powers, although he personally likes his troll form far better.
  • Opposites Attract: Despite having a rough first meeting, Devon and Brendoni start to become close companions and rather fond of each other's ways, even though Devon's obsessed with organization and tidiness, and Brendoni's a total slob. And even though Brendoni would usually not say this out loud, he's actually very fond of Devon.
  • Order Versus Chaos: He plays the "chaos" role to his roommate Devon's "order"-like personality to the point where he initially assumes he was sent to change Devon's ways. Although, as mentioned in the above trope, despite not always being able to put up with the other's way of life, they still enjoy each other's company and manage to bond surprisingly well.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: Despite his troll form being half the size of most of the Athenian inhabitants, this doesn't detract from his abilities in the slightest, as being a troll means he has superior strength compared to the average fairy. He's once shown single-handedly breaking a boulder in half with just one kick.
  • The Prankster: Back in Athenia he'd enjoy causing chaos in the other world. And when Winston first shows up in Athena, he manipulates Winston into doing a lot of unpleasant tasks, which involved jumping in mud 100 times, running into a tree 22 times, and nearly eating a bug.
  • Smarter Than You Look: While he may be a goofball and has got a handful of traits of a Dumb Muscle such as constantly making a mess wherever he goes, and not understanding basic math, he's proven that he can be quite crafty and intelligent when the time calls for it. Aside from being a master prankster, he's skilled with crafting troll potions, knows a lot about plant life and a good ecosystem, knows a bit of Chinese, is an incredible chef, is able to catch onto Hailey's plans to make Tristan jealous, and knows how to craft a believable lie. He may be a jokester, a troublemaker and a slob, but he's far from an idiot.
Brendoni: (after speaking and translating Chinese) What? There's more to me than just outrageousness.
  • Super-Strength: Being a troll, he's got supernatural strength that's vastly superior to that of a mere human. He's capable of lifting a massive amount of weight without so much as breaking a sweat, a trait he would maintain in his human form, as he's shown lifting heavyweights in the gymnasium. Tristan would even take note of how Brendoni was able to lift a seriously heavy amount of pounds with total ease.
  • Supreme Chef: One of his Hidden Depths is that for all of his gross and slob ways, he's shockingly an amazing chef. During a single cooking class alone, he created spanakopitas, samosas, cupcakes a three-tier cake, and a chocolate souffle, whereas Hailey had trouble with the souffle alone. Even Hailey calls Brendoni an artist. In Brendoni's words:
Brendoni: I can be very productive when I get to eat what I study... which is what got me kicked out of biology lab.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Part of his Character Development is that slowly but surely becomes more trusting and respectful towards humanity as a whole, mainly due to some time with Morgan and Devon, and becomes a true, loyal friend to the group. Of course, he's still partially keeping his mischievous side, and whenever someone acknowledges how much Brendoni's changed for the better he'd either refuse to acknowledge it or change the subject.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: He tends to occasionally play this role towards Devon and Astral. As back in Athenia, Brendoni would occasionally join Astral in sneaking off to the "other" world and causing mischief to the others — which he took great pleasure in doing — and even in the "other" world, some of his tendencies tend to rub off on Devon, such as a time when he intentionally made a small mess, and got Devon to overlook and not obsess over it, threw a house party without latter's consent and encouraged him to embrace the party and host it. And that's not even getting into having him create a fake identity of him as a legendary party king.
  • Troll: Well, duh. He loves to play pranks for his own amusement, and cause trouble among others. Not to mention he's an actual mystical troll.
  • Walking Disaster Area: Brendoni tends to have a habit of making a mess and causing trouble throughout areas he comes across.
  • Weirdness Magnet: This literal troll manages to out-weird even his cousin. After he travels to the human world, things get heated up and bizarre fast, with Devon becoming a temporary party king, Hailey managing to open up, among other things.
     Tristan Andersen (spoilers)

Tristan Andersen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tristanandersen.jpg
Click here to see his fairy prince form.
Played By: Callan Potter
The other new student at Theseus High who makes quite an impression on Astral and Hailey with his talent in gymnastics, attractive appearance and sense of compassion. He's been to four schools within three years and he's used to having to adjust to his surroundings quickly. He's very easy-going and very patient, although he doesn't believe in love.
  • All There in the Script: His surname is never stated in the series, but was revealed in a promotional video.
  • Breakout Character: He's been shown to be a fan-favorite character and is nearly as beloved as Astral herself due to being an all-around Nice Guy, having a vague, Mysterious Past with a couple of tidbits being shared, serving as the Only Sane Man among the friend group, loving nature almost as much as Astral, and turning out to not just be a fairy, like Astral, but also a surprise lost prince of Spartania who isn't smug or arrogant. Want proof of just how beloved he is? On the show's official YouTube channel (which is unfortunately, now taken down), Tristan's character video had more views and likes than all of the other characters' personal videos ... combined. He's that beloved by the fandom.
  • Cain and Abel: He's suggested to be the Abel between his brother Cliff who's the Cain being the sons of King Reed
  • Chick Magnet: Despite being a new student at Theseus High, he's already made quite the impression with at least two girls due to his good looks and mellowness, namely series protagonist Astral who likes him for his generosity and kindness in addition to his looks, and Alpha Bitch Hailey who wanted to go out with him for the fall dance, despite Tristan not having any feelings for her.
  • First Kiss: He was Princess Astral's first true boyfriend and sure enough, this trope would also apply in the Season 1 finale.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: He's got blond hair, and nearly all of his scenes show he's a soft-spoken, polite, and gentle boy, with a kind heart and good-hearted nature.
  • I Am Who?: While Tristan was aware that he was a fairy, he wasn't aware that he was the lost prince of Spartania.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: He's stated to have blue eyes and he's without a doubt one of the friendliest characters on the show.
  • Long-Lost Relative: He finds out the hard way that he's the long-lost Prince of Spartania — meaning he's King Reed's son and Prince Cliff's brother— destined to bring chaos and tragedy to Athenia, despite wanting no part in said destruction.
  • Mellow Fellow: He's carefree, outgoing, and easy to talk to. He likes the quiet things in life.
  • Mysterious Past: His background history is intentionally left ambiguous with him playing the typical friendly boy role. The closest he gets to a backstory is that he and his mother constantly had to move and that Tristan's been to four schools within three years, so he's used to having to adjust to his surroundings quickly. Although this leaves the door open for his massive reveal of being a fairy prince, and his long-lost father being the malevolent king of Spartania.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: His name's based on renowned Danish fantasy author, Hans Christian Andersen.
  • New Transfer Student: He's stated that he had attended four schools within three years and he's used to having to adjust to his surroundings quickly. It's possible he was a transfer student for some of them.
  • Nice Guy: With a serious level of patience, and being a friendly and reasonable companion who cares about his companions, it's little wonder Astral and Hailey are so into him.
  • Oblivious to Love: Tristan is completely oblivious about Astral's crush on him and mainly just treats her as a regular friend, and he couldn't care less about Hailey's attempts to be his girlfriend. Then again, he did state that he sees love as disingenuous. This gets subverted in the season 1 finale when he praises Astral's love of nature, finally discovers her affection for him, learns about her fairy status, reveals his, and gained actual romantic feelings for Astral.
  • Only Known By His Nickname: His name Tristan is actually an alias he uses in the human world to blend in with the others and hide his true fairy heritage. We never get to learn what Tristan's actual fairy name is.
  • Only Sane Man: If you place Tristan in a room or area where he's in a troublesome position or solution, the chances are he'll be the most level-headed, sensible and composed person in the room.
    • When Astral, Morgan and Hailey end up having to wait for a parental figure to pick them up, Hailey acted like a total Drama Queen about the situation, and acted like she only had a few days to live and was in jail (to which she'd constantly be reminded she wasn't in jail), and Morgan was annoyed with Hailey's issues begging for Astral to use her magic to get the two them of out of there — even though magic got them in that mess in the first place. In addition, Tristan was only there because Hailey was his ride home, and not because he got in trouble. He even tried to calm everyone down.
    • When he gets locked in the gym with Astral, Morgan, Devon, Hailey, and Brendoni, Tristan's the only person in the room who doesn't freak out or point fingers over who was to blame for the lock-up. Heck, even Astral -- who's usually a warm and forgiving girl -- took part in the finger-pointing. Tristan would personally whistle loudly to gather everyone's attention and state that they'd have stop bickering if they wanted to get out.
  • Really Royalty Reveal: The Season 1 finale reveals that Tristan's the long-lost fairy prince of Spartania and that his father was none other than the malevolent King Reed.
  • Rewatch Bonus: After you find out about Tristan's shocking secret about his true heritage and background in the Season 1 finale, all of Tristan's scenes in season prior to the big reveal take on a whole new meaning.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: Astral and Tristan are deeply in affection and love for each other, and Tristan turns out to be a fairy just like Astral. The problem? Tristan's not just from a different tribe but from Athenia's (Astral's homeland) rival tribe Spartania, who neither side can stand. So Tristan was forced back to Spartania by his father to one day reign havoc over Athenia, and Astral had to leave to "other" world to return to Athenia. Ouch.
  • Wise Beyond His Years: Tristan is surprisingly very level-headed and mature for his age. He tends to enjoy the little things out of life, is extremely open-minded and approachable, and overall seems to be the most well-adjusted member of the main cast, lacking the major flaws that the others have. He's not overly impulsive like Astral, fiery or short-tempered like Morgan often is, a constant paranoiac like Devon, a prankster/troublemaker like Brendoni, and he's definitely not overly dramatic or controlling like Hailey. He's also the least likely to hold a grudge or get upset.

Played By: Josette Halpert
Astral's controlling frenemy in school, and the principal's niece. She quickly notices something off about Astral and wants to discover her secret and expose it.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: She's mainly full of affection for Tristan and wants him to be her boyfriend, despite not always liking her demeanor and impatience.
  • Academic Alpha Bitch: She's obsessed with getting proficient grades in nearly all of her classes, and her character page on Nickelodeon refers to her as a straight-A student.
  • Alpha Bitch: She wants Tristan by her side as she climbs the social ladder and is determined to prove there's something weird about Astral.
  • Control Freak: She's super controlling over just how she wants things to turn out, and doesn't take kindly to being one-uped by Astral or Brendoni. This is especially the case in her being in charge of the fall dance committee as she really wants her beach theme to take off and simply will not take "no" for an answer.
  • A Day in the Limelight: "Let Their Be Cake" has Astral's story about her journey in the human world, get mainly pushed aside briefly with Hailey getting a larger role in the episode.
  • Drama Queen: Oh yeah, she's got a tendency to overreact over the anything that's weird or abnormal or when anything goes wrong on her end.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • For all of her faults and arrogance, her Day in the Limelight episode reveals she partially insecure of herself after an accident she caused during a past cooking class.
    • Her sister's really into extreme sports and she ends up picking up her habits and talents from her, such as stunts on a bicycle.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Hailey may be the school's resident Alpha Bitch, but she's shown to have quite a bit of Hidden Depths, and even a few moments where she treats people with decency and even apologized once.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: ... then again, she's still more than willing to go back on her promise and hold her rendition of the fall dance, even though she lost the poll, which Astral, Morgan and the others are rightfully upset about.
  • Jerkass to One: Hailey's constantly apathetic towards various people, but she holds a special hatred towards Astral due to her quirkiness and abnormality and how she's hanging out with the boy of her dreams, abandoned her for Morgan and Devon, won the school dance from her and how she's gotten away with blowing up the school.
    • Brendoni sometimes is a victim of this too, but in a lesser case as Hailey's more likely to get along with or apologize to him.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: She often feels like certain school rules don't apply to her due to the fact that she's the principal's niece.
  • Secret Chaser: She'll do just about anything to discover Astral's secret and just what she's hiding with her unnatural abilities and craziness... including snoop around Devon's house where Astral was staying and look in her room and through her personal belongings.
  • Shout-Out Theme Naming: Her name is Hailey Grimm, as in the Brothers Grimm or Grimm's Fairy Tales. Makes sense considering the series takes place in a (partially-urban) fantasy world, with fairies and other mystical creatures. This is even referenced when Hailey first introduces herself to Tristan.
Hailey: Hi! I'm Hailey Grimm. And yes, I do have older brothers. But no, they don't tell me fairy tales.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: To Astral, as she's jealous over her weird powers, ability to quickly make friends and optimism and does what she can to expose her true nature to others.
  • Token Evil Teammate: More like "Token Jerkass Teammate" as Hailey's not actually evil. However, she is a lot more impatient, insensitive about others, and ruthless when she wants something accomplished. Heck, even Brendoni started to go through his own arc and learn to be a more open-minded ally to his peers. She's also the only member of the main cast who doesn't take part in the Evermoor rally at the end of Season 1.
