The French teenagers who are temporarily granted Miraculous powers to help Ladybug and Cat Noir.
  • Ascended Fanboy: Many of the temporary heroes admired Ladybug and Cat Noir before getting the chance to fight alongside them.
  • Cincinnatus: Whenever Ladybug gives out a Miraculous it's always with the caveat that it must be returned once the job is complete. Alya in particular is a double subversion. Ladybug lends her the Fox Miraculous when Sapotis proves too much for her and Cat Noir to handle. At the end of the episode, Ladybug demands she return it as promised; Alya is extremely reluctant, but ultimately keeps her word.
  • Dawn of an Era:
    • For 200 years, no Miraculouses have been used, except those few that were in circulation when the Order fell. This generation is also the first to be openly part of modern history. Previous Miraculous wielders did not tell the world that their power came from a Miraculous, or that there were other wielders out there.
    • After Monarch’s defeat, they gain their Miraculous on a permanent basis, allowing for the team to become permanent.
  • Everyone Went to School Together: If Bunnyx's exposition is any indication, the show we see is more or less the Backstory of various Future Badasses who will form a superhero team.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: Marinette and Adrien only call on them if they need extra help.
  • Jumped at the Call: The team's leaders have racked up so many successes over the years that basically everyone in the city knows that having Miraculous powers is 1) glorious, and 2) directly relevant to keeping their home safe.
  • Superpowers for a Day: Whenever they are drafted to help Ladybug and Cat Noir, they are loaned Miraculouses to fight with. Starting with "Optigami" Alya is the first member to be allowed to hold onto hers. Later when Monarch is defeated and the Miraculouses are recovered, all of them are gifted theirs permanently.
  • This Looks Like a Job for Aquaman: Downplayed. By no means are any of the Miraculous' powers useless, but these particular Miraculous only ever come out when Ladybug and Cat Noir either need extra numbers or the specific abilities associated with each Miraculous i.e. needing subjection to immobilize Style Queen or protection to defend against Anansi.
  • The Unmasking: In "Miracle Queen", with the exception of Alix/Bunnyx, every single temporary ally introduced prior to that episode has their identity blown to Hawk Moth and Mayura.

"Chillax, lady. If there's anyone on this earth who knows about your legendary clumsiness, it's me, your BFF!"

Alya is Marinette's best friend - and Ladybug's biggest fan - but doesn't realize they're the same person. Alya is confident, cool, and a little bit sassy, never afraid to speak her mind, and always keeping an eye on Parisian trends and news. She dreams of being a professional news reporter, but until that day, she's practicing by running the Ladyblog, tracking Ladybug and Cat Noir's every accomplishment.

She temporarily becomes a fox themed hero named Rena Rouge in the episode "Sapotis"; she takes up that role once again at the beginning of "Syren" and during the "Heroes' Day" two-parter.

As of "Optigami" she is now a permanent holder of the Fox Miraculous. She also becomes Marinette's presumptive successor for the ownership of the Miracle Box.

In "Hack-San", Alya receives the Ladybug Miraculous from Marinette when the latter needs to temporarily leave Paris with her parents to celebrate her aunt's birthday. When Robostus, together with the titular sentimonster, starts wreaking havoc, she uses the Miraculous, when inhabited by Tikki, to turn into Scarabella, a ladybug-themed superhero.

As of "Rocketear", after putting herself in a position where her hero persona could no longer be seen in public and where she could only assist her allies from the shadows, her costume changes and she decides that she is now known as Rena Furtive, an arctic fox-themed superhero.

In "Strikeback", after having failed to protect her cover as Rena Furtive from Monarch, she gives back her Miraculous to Ladybug, which just results in her Miraculous getting stolen by Félix and Gabriel just like all the other ones from the Miracle Box.

In "Transmission", Tikki chooses her as the next permanent holder of the Ladybug Miraculous so Marinette can live freely her love story with Adrien, but her identity as Scarabella ends up getting exposed to Monarch through her Alliance Ring, which leads to her defeat in "Deflagration". But she still becomes Sarabella on occassion as seen in "Revelation".

In "Confrontation", Ayla finally finds out Lila is a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing and apologizes to Marinette for not believing her.

At the end of "Re-Creation", after Monarch has been defeated, Alya receives the Fox Miraculous permanently and is reunited with Trixx.

  • Ambiguously Brown: In the show proper. She has dark skin, and the Egyptian Pharaoh says she resembles his dead wife. According to the creator, her family is from Martinique.
  • Animal Motifs:
  • Are We Getting This?: She is the living embodiment of this trope. Since she's running an amateur news blog, Alya is reporter and camerawoman at the same time, so she doesn't spell the trope out but has a knee-jerk reaction of go recording Akuma attacks. It's often at the cost of personal safety, even if she learns to be less reckless with time. In "The Pharaoh", she approaches the Monster of the Week to interview him for her viewer's sake. She's also very willing to continue her livestream and excitedly comments on the facts even as she's being kidnapped by the Akuma to be sacrificed.
  • Aren't You Going to Ravish Me?: She's a little offended when the Pharaoh swaps her out with Ladybug as a sacrifice.
  • Ascended Fangirl:
    • She's a big fan of superhero comics so naturally she jumped at the chance to be able to record Ladybug and Cat Noir in action. In fact, Marinette, believing herself unworthy of Ladybug's power, almost gave her Miraculous to Alya before deciding to keep it.
    • In "Sapotis", Ladybug chooses her to temporarily wield the Fox Miraculous, allowing her to transform into the superheroine Rena Rouge. She's absolutely delighted the entire time.
    • After Marinette revealed her identity as Ladybug to her in "Gang of Secrets", she becomes more involved in helping Ladybug and Cat Noir take down akumas. In "Optigami", Marinette makes the decision to let Alya keep the Fox Miraculous permanently, making her the official third member of the team.
    • In "Hack-San", Marinette entrusts the Ladybug Miraculous to her while she's out of town, meaning Alya actually gains the same powers as her favorite heroine as "Scarabella".
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: Her dark brown/vermilion hair is certainly appropriate for someone who gets to wield the Fox Miraculous.
  • Battle Couple: With Nino/Carapace during the "Heroes' Day" two-parter.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: When she becomes Marinette's Secret-Keeper by the end of "Gang of Secrets", she becomes a more active participant in Ladybug's fight against Hawk Moth and be a full-time superhero like she always wanted. As the series goes on however, there have been moments where she starts experiencing the kind of stress inherent to the job, including the effect keeping secrets has on her personal life and being forced to respond to the call at inconvenient times.
  • Bespectacled Cutie: A sweet bespectacled girl with a strong sense of justice. One good example comes from her earning Marinette's friendship in "Ladybug and Cat Noir" by standing up to Chloé when Chloé is bullying Marinette.
  • Best Friend: To Marinette. She's more confident and outspoken than Marinette is, but they're as close as sisters.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Alya is horrified that her little sisters become akumatized and even helps Ladybug and Cat Noir as Rena Rouge to free them.
  • Birds of a Feather: She and Nino become a couple after finding out they have a lot in common.
  • Camera Fiend: Loves taking photos, both of her daily life and of Ladybug's superheroics.
  • Casual Danger Dialogue: Held hostage during Bubbler's mandatory birthday party? About to be sacrificed by a supervillain in exchange for his love? No problem, she knows Ladybug and Cat Noir will rescue her.
  • Color Character: Her superhero name is Rena Rouge, roughly translating to "Red Fox", though her Miraculous is primarily associated with orange.
  • Cool Big Sis: She has several little siblings, so she is good at handling children. She also behaves like one towards Manon when Stormy Weather traps them both in an ice prison.
  • Cunning Like a Fox: She's a fox themed superhero who can fool enemies with her powers of illusion (the best example of this being her tricking Shadow Moth into believing that she was "retired" as a superhero in "Sentibubbler").
  • Damsel in Distress: She's often captured by the villains and needs to be saved.
  • Facepalm: Marinette's made her do this more than once.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Never once realizes that Marinette is missing when Ladybug is running about. To be fair, that's probably not the first conclusion most people would come to. One particularly Egregious example occurs in the "Origins" two-parter, where Marinette literally transforms in the middle of the street, practically in front of Alya, and somehow she still misses it. Though to be fair, Alya was pinned to the wall by a car at the time; she probably had other things on the mind.
  • Family Theme Naming: The names of her and her family are related to jazz singers.
  • Fangirl: Of Ladybug and Cat Noir. She runs a fanblog about their adventures, and never misses any events related to them. She was a fangirl of superheroes in general even before Ladybug and Cat Noir appeared. After learning Ladybug is actually her clumsy and spastic best friend, the fangirl part seems to have stopped. She still thinks she's great and amazing but since she's no longer a larger than life figure, now Alya treats her with the same loving but amused exasperation even if Marinette is in costume.
  • Fiery Redhead: Downplayed. Alya has brown hair with some bright vermilion highlights, and while she is determined and spunky, she's usually level-headed.
  • Foil: To Marinette.
  • Foxy Vixen: While she's much less flirtatious and outgoing than most examples, her costume design clearly emphasizes this archetype.
  • Friendly Tickle Torture: At the end of "The Dark Owl", after Marinette wins a game they were playing, Alya tickles her accusing her to have cheated. Alya would later find herself on the receiving end when Nino tickles her at the Louvre pretending to be an akumatized villain called "Tickle Man". She attempts to get him back, however much to her shock, she discovers he has been paused by a mannequin version of her akumatized form Lady Wifi.
  • Genki Girl: She's quite an energetic girl, particularly when she got the Fox Miraculous for the first time.
  • Genre Savvy: Familiar with a lot of superhero tropes because of all the comics she reads; however, she never realizes that Ladybug's secret identity could be her own best friend. In "Sapotis", she correctly guesses that the heroes' powers come from the kwamis upon meeting Trixx.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: While she isn't at the point where she needs to have a Miraculous full-time until Season 4, Ladybug occasionally drafts her aid as Rena Rouge to deal with particularly troublesome situations.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: In "Mayura", she throws herself in the path of one of Dark Cupid's arrows, which was meant for Carapace.
  • Heroic Willpower: In "Gang of Secrets", Alya becomes the second person on the show to successfully resist Akumatization and is the first one to do so after being fully akumatized.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: She and Marinette are as close as sisters, and tell each other practically everything.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Even after learning Ladybug's identity and Marinette entrusting her with all her secrets, she still doesn't believe her about Lila being a Consummate Liar and a Jerkass, still thinking that Marinette must be wrong about her.
  • Intrepid Reporter: There's a villain tearing up Paris? Gotta get footage of Ladybug and Cat Noir kicking butt for her blog! She also attempted to uncover Ladybug's identity before learning the importance of secret identities once she became a hero herself.
  • Jerkass: In "Dark Cupid", after getting hit by the titular villain's arrows, Alya becomes this to Marinette. Luckily, she was returned to normal thanks to the Miraculous Ladybug. In "Chameleon", thanks to Lila manipulating them with her lies, Alya and the rest of the class become this to Marinette. In Confrontation, she finds out Lila was lying to her and apologizes to Marinette for her behavior.
  • Just Eat Gilligan: Actually considers handing Chloé to Zombizou in the titular episode.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Her desire for a hot scoop sometimes trumps common sense, as seen in the Origins Episode.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: In "The Pharoh", Alya describes in great detail what happens during a regular episode saying she pays attention.
  • Le Parkour: In "Miraculer" she is shown having a rather acrobatic parkour race across a bridge with her boyfriend Nino. As civilians. While carrying ice cream.
  • Magical Flutist: Her weapon as a superhero is a flute that allows her to create illusions.
  • Master of Illusion: Her Mirage ability lets her create powerful illusions. However, she can only use this once before her Miraculous starts counting down to the end of the transformation.
  • The Matchmaker: To Marinette, only, but Alya can come with her own pack of schemes to be sure Marinette confess to Adrien, or at least have more time with him.
  • Meaningful Name: In Slavonic, "Alya" means "beautiful" or "scarlet," references to her good looks and red-brown hair, respectively. Fittingly, her superhero name basically translates to 'Red Fox'.
  • Meaningful Rename: Since she can no longer be seen as Rena Rouge after the events of "Sentibubbler", Alya takes not only a new outfit, but changes her name to Rena Furtive, "Stealthy Fox."
  • Ms. Fanservice: Provides a fair amount as Rena Rouge with her curvaceous figure and very form-fitting bodysuit.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: Her last name comes from the French poet, writer and politician Aimé Césaire, theorician of négritude. Fitting, given, like her family, he was from Martinique.
  • New Transfer Student: The Origins Episode reveals that she transferred in at the start of the school year, around the same time Adrien started going to public school.
  • Nice Girl: She is extremely loyal, supportive, and helpful, like going out of her way to encourage and (sometimes literally) push Marinette into spending time with Adrien.
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: As Rena Rouge, her hair gets visibly longer and puffier.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Enters into a relationship with Nino in "Animan" after being locked in a cage together. She initially thought of him as a brother, but they found out that they had a lot in common.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: After Rocketear is de-evilized, Ladybug tells her to lie to Nino in order to ensure her secret identity won't be compromised. Instead, Alya tells him almost everything, while reassuring him that she loves him.
  • Second Love: To Nino, who originally had a huge crush on Marinette.
  • Second Super-Identity:
    • Narrowly subverted in "Style Queen"; Marinette was intending to loan her the Bee Miraculous, but Alya gets petrified before she can go through with it.
    • Played straight, though, in "Hack-San", where she gets to use the Ladybug Miraculous to become Scarabella, with a second appearance in the "Kwami's Choice" two-parter and a third one in "Revelation".
    • Also played straight as of "Rocketear" as she is forced to retire Rena Rouge and adopts a new costume and name as Rena Furtive to ensure that Shadow Moth doesn't know she is still helping Ladybug. However, her new secret identity gets exposed to Shadow Moth in "Strikeback", making her give back the Fox Miraculous to Ladybug, as she considers that it's too dangerous to keep wearing it (however, it ends up getting stolen by anyway later on with all the other Miraculous from the Miracle Box.
  • Secret Chaser: There have been two episodes ("The Pharaoh" and "Lady Wifi") where she tries to figure out Ladybug's identity and has shown a desire to find out Cat Noir's identity as well.
  • Secret-Keeper: Shortly into the fourth season, Marinette, desperate for someone in her personal life to confide her secrets to, tells her she's Ladybug.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: She figures out Nino is Carapace almost immediately thanks to his use of the word "dude". Upgraded to Secret-Keeper as of "Catalyst", when Ladybug gives both of them their Miraculouses at the same time.
Nino: Aren't you at least a bit surprised that I'm Carapace?
Rena Rouge: [patronizing tone] My sweet, clueless boy. Just transform.
  • Shipper on Deck:
    • For Marinette/Adrien. She's constantly pushing Marinette to interact with him. She even does it in the intro sequence. Deconstructed in Season 5 where she still tries to push Marinette to be with Adrien even when she decides to stop pursuing him after the events of “The Last Attack of Shadow Moth” and even disregarding her new attraction to Cat Noir in favor of Adrien. It takes Marinette giving her a chewing out over it and seeing an akumatized André attacking her and Cat Noir for the same reason for her to realize the damage of her pushiness and finally back off.
    • "Prime Queen" shows she ships Ladybug and Cat Noir, as her statement about the two is that they're not officially dating...yet.
  • Sixth Ranger: After Marinette reveals her secret to her in “Gang of Secrets”, Alya becomes an unofficial third member of her and Cat Noir’s team, while also helping Marinette in deciphering the Grimoire. As of "Optigami", Marinette decides to allow her to keep the Fox Miraculous and a copy of the Grimoire's information, making her the first and thus far only member of the group beyond the main duo to have full possession of their Miraculous and the official third member of their team.
  • Superpowers for a Day: In "Sapotis", Ladybug lends Alya the Fox Miraculous, which turns her into the superheroine Rena Rouge. She has to give it back at the end of the episode, though. After 2 seasons of temporarily helping Ladybug from time to time, she gets to keep the Fox Miraculous permanently halfway through the fourth season.
  • Tritagonist: The events of Season 4 promote her to the tertiary main character. She is the first one to discover Ladybug's true identity, helps her out in her civilian forms, and eventually becomes the first temporary Miraculous holder to be granted permission to keep her Miraculous on a permanent basis.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Alya has several examples of rushing into danger to get exclusive footage.
    • In "The Pharaoh", she doesn't listen to Ladybug to hide and take cover, causing her to get captured by the titular villain.
    • In "Timebreaker", she is recording the fight between Ladybug and the titular villain causing her to get her energy taken from her.
    • In the Origins 2-parter, she rushes off to get footage of Stoneheart, causing her to get trapped by a car. On a lighter note, it causes Marinette to finally have the courage to become Ladybug.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Ladybug/Marinette, especially in “Sentibubbler”.
  • Unwitting Muggle Friend: She has no idea that Marinette and her admired Ladybug are the same person. That said, she does at one point consider that Adrien could be Cat Noir, but Marinette brushes it off. In "Gang of Secrets", she learns Ladybug's true identity.
  • Verbal Tic: She often says "girl" when speaking with Marinette. The future version of Marinette seems to have adopted this quirk.
  • The World Is Just Awesome: Her first minutes as Rena are pure, unadulterated joy as she leaps across rooftops and takes in Paris' night landscape.

    Nino Lahiffe/Carapace

Nino Lahiffe/Carapace

Akumatized forms: The Bubbler (Nino), Shell Shock (Carapace), Oblivio (with Alya), Rocketear (Nino)

"You're cool too, dude. Trust me, or you wouldn't be my best bud."

Adrien's best friend. He wants to be a DJ and a movie director. Nino is the outgoing, fun-loving foil to his gloomier pal, and although he might be a bit immature at times, he's loyal and wants the best for his bro.

He temporarily becomes a turtle-themed hero named Carapace in the episode "Anansi".

  • Ambiguously Brown: In the show proper. According to the creator, he's of Moroccan descent.
  • Ascended Fanboy: In "Anansi" when Alya's sister becomes akumatized, Nino receives the Turtle Miraculous and becomes Carapace.
  • Badass Bystander:
    • When Alya's sister, Nora, becomes the spider villain Anansi, Nino puts up a valiant effort to fight her off himself. The results are pretty predictable, but the Turtle Miraculous quickly turns the tables in his favour...
    • In "Deflagration", the Resistance group lead by him manage to overpower Monarchbug and help a depowered Ladybug take back the Ladybug and Cat Miraculous from him.
  • Barrier Warrior: As both Bubbler and Carapace. As Bubbler, he creates bubbles which he uses for a variety of purposes; mostly to trap people inside. As Carapace, meanwhile, his Shellter ability puts a Beehive Barrier around something to protect it.
  • Battle Couple: With Alya during the "Heroes' Day" two-parter.
  • Beehive Barrier: Carapace's special skill, Shell-ter, creates a forcefield patterned after the shell on his back.
  • Best Friend: To Adrien.
  • Birds of a Feather: He and Alya become a couple after finding out they have a lot in common.
  • Bromantic Foil: Adrien's primary male companion. He's more laid-back, cheerful and outgoing than Adrien, who is somewhat more uptight, brooding, and reserved (at least as a civilian).
  • Calling the Old Man Out: He tries to do this for Adrien, when Gabriel refuses to let him have a birthday party. It doesn't really work.
  • Camera Fiend: Like Alya, he's always ready with his phone camera to take videos of interesting happenings.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: His crush on Marinette in "Animan". He blurts out that he has a crush on Alya instead.
  • Character Development: Retroactively, but Nino mentions in "Catalyst" that he used to be someone who wouldn't help others when they needed it, but due to the influence of Ladybug and Cat Noir, he has become more selfless.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Shows shades of this in "Rocketear" after he misunderstands Alya's weird recent behaviour as her cheating on him with Cat Noir, refusing to listen to reason even from his best friend and ending up getting akumatized over his jealousy, even trying to off Cat Noir as an Akuma villain.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Downplayed. Nino has brown hair and golden, brown eyes.
  • Determinator: When Gabriel refused to give Adrien a birthday party, Nino tried to convince him with poor results, what made him Hawk Moth's next target. Even akumatized and not using his best judgment, it's noteworthy that Nino, as The Bubbler, was really focused on giving the best birthday party to his best friend. His determinator side is best showcased in "Anansi", where he stops at nothing to try and rescue Alya. From giant webs to said supervillain's stature and powers, no matter how many times he is mocked and knocked down (or thrown across Paris), he never gives up.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: In "The Bubbler", Nino has black hair, but in all episodes afterward, he has brown hair.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Downplayed. Nino's outfit would be symmetrical entirely if it wasn't for the fact he wears a variety of different colored bands on his left wrist.
  • Genre Savvy: He's a big film buff and accurately predicts that the cell phones wouldn't get a signal in "Horrificator" because it was just like a horror film.
  • Green and Mean: Inverted. As Carapace, his suit is entirely green but he's a hero instead of a villain.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Towards anyone who he believes tries to woo his girlfriend, which Shadow Moth takes advantage of in "Rocketear" in order to akumatize him and have him destroy Cat Noir (whom he mistook as Alya's secret lover).
  • Guest-Star Party Member: He is drafted into becoming the turtle hero Carapace in order to defeat Anansi.
  • Headphones Equal Isolation: Inverted. Nino is always seen with a pair of headphones but he is quite the sociable and friendly person. The headphones serve as a reminder of his dream of being a DJ.
  • Heroic Willpower: In "Rocketear", he breaks free of the Akuma's influence after Alya (with the help of Ladybug and her Miraculous) clears the misunderstanding about her relationship with Cat Noir and proves to her boyfriend that she hasn't cheated on him.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: Nino is Adrien's best friend. They enjoy hanging out with each other, and they sit together in class.
  • Hopeless Suitor: His crush on Marinette would've proved futile given her love for Adrien.
  • In the Hood: Carapace's outfit includes a hood that he always wears.
  • The Leader: In Season 5, he becomes the leader of the Resistance against Monarch (which consists of all the former Miraculous Wielders).
  • Le Parkour: In "Miraculer" he is shown having a rather acrobatic parkour race across a bridge with his girlfriend Alya. As civilians. While carrying ice cream.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Carapace's weapon is a shell-like shield.
  • Meaningful Name: His first name is pronounced and spelled "Niño" in Spanish, which means "boy".
  • My God, You Are Serious!: Nino laughs for a long time when Alya shares her theory that Chloé is Ladybug. When Alya reveals she means business, he points out that Chloé is too selfish for such heroics.
  • Never Bareheaded: Nino is almost never seen without his red cap on.
  • Nice Guy: Nino is fun-loving, enthusiastic, friendly, and compassionate. He is described as "a caring friend with a strong sense of right and wrong."
  • Punny Name: His name is a play on "No Life". "Nolife" was a French TV network about pop culture "for geeks, nerds and otakus", representing his geeky type.
  • Relationship Upgrade: He enters into a relationship with Alya in "Animan" after being locked in a cage together.
  • Secret-Keeper: In "Catalyst", he learns Alya is Rena Rouge when Ladybug gives both of them their Miraculouses at the same time.
    • Subverted in Rocketear when he spills Alya's (and his own) secret identity to Adrien in a fit of rage.
  • Shipper on Deck:
    • Nino uses footage of Ivan and Mylène's first kiss to conclude a movie he's making in "Horrificator".
    • It's heavily implied in "Animan" that Alya told Nino about Marinette's crush on Adrien, and was willing to talk to his best friend about it. It's confirmed that he indeed knows in "Puppeteer 2".
  • Shout-Out:
  • Superpowers for a Day: In "Anansi", he gets to borrow the Turtle Miraculous and become the superhero Carapace.
  • Taking the Bullet: In "Deflagration", he protects Marinette disguised as Ladybug from getting Venom'd by Monarchbug by taking the hit himself.
  • Throwing Your Shield Always Works: Carapace can use his shield as a projectile. After hitting its target, it flies back to him.
  • Totally Radical: His slang in the English dub can come across as quite dated.
  • Trivial Tragedy: When the supervillain Chameleon steals his cap, he is absolutely devastated and in mourning until he gets it back.
  • Understanding Boyfriend: Nino sure tries his best when Alya demands him to help Marinette to be with Adrien, even with Alya demanding kinda a lot from him.
  • Unwitting Muggle Friend: He doesn't know that his best friend Adrien is a superhero.
  • Verbal Tic: His frequent use of "dude," which makes it glaringly obvious to Alya that he is Carapace.

    Chloé Bourgeois/Queen Bee
See this page for tropes regarding Chloé Bourgeois.

Introduced in Season 3

    Luka Couffaine/Viperion

Luka Couffaine/Viperion

Akumatized forms: Silencer, Truth

"Music is often simpler than words."

Juleka's older twin brother. He's a nice and laid-back rock guitarist who has feelings for Marinette, which she may reciprocate.

In "Desperada", when Adrien failed to use the Snake Miraculous properly, Luka is chosen to become the new/primary Snake hero, Viperion, who returns to help in "Party Crasher".

  • Always Save the Girl: Luka never hesitates to throw himself in danger to save Marinette from the Villain of the Week. Especially in "Captain Hardrock" where he lets himself get re-captured so Marinette can escape, in "Miracle Queen" where he takes a magical wasp sting for her, and "Wishmaker" where he risks getting crushed leading a giant robot away from her hiding place.
  • Amazon Chaser: Downplayed. Thomas Astruc confirmed that Luka fell for Marinette at first sight in his debut episode, hence his comment on how "unbelievably brave" she is.
  • Amicable Exes: Becomes this with Marinette in Season 4. They acknowledge that while they didn't work out as a couple, it doesn't mean they can't still be friends or support each other's dreams.
  • Artists Are Attractive: And he knows it, if his Love Confession's usage of musical metaphors is any indication.
  • Ascended Fanboy: He’s a huge fan of Jagged Stone. In "Truth", it is revealed that Jagged Stone is his father and he even invites him to write new songs with him at the end of the episode.
  • Badass Normal: Thanks to his Mirakung-fu training with Su-Han during his stay at Brazil, Luka can fight armies of Miraculized to protect everyone and is shown to be very adept at using it.
  • Band of Relatives: He and his sister Juleka are the guitarists in the band Kitty Section.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He's pretty chill for the most part, which makes him yelling at Roth and XY for plagiarizing Kitty Section in "Silencer" a sight to behold.
  • The Bus Came Back: He returns to Paris in "Re-creation" after having completed his training in Mirakung-Fu with Su Han.
  • Child Prodigy: At 15, he's also an incredibly gifted artisan, able to craft several gorgeous stringed musical instruments (including wooden guitars and violins). He can also play many stringed musical instrument very well, including the guitar and the violin.
  • Clark Kent Outfit: Luka's civilian clothes hide his muscular physique despite how apparently thin they are. While not as muscular as Kim, both his hero and two akumatized supervillains identities show that he still have impressive body shape.
  • Commonality Connection: He and Marinette bond over being fans of Jagged Stone.
  • Cool Big Bro:
    • He is very supportive of Juleka's dream to be a model in "Reflekdoll".
    • This extends to the rest of the gang given he and Juleka are twins and are a year older than the rest of the group (Luka is a freshman in lycée while Juleka is repeating her final year in collège).
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Zigzagged. Luka has light blue hair and eyes, but it's implied that the former is dyed.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Luka has an Emo Teen style as a civilian and his snake Animal Motif is always associated with wickedness. But he is a snake-themed superhero who is firmly on the side of good, with a very positive attitude.
  • Did Not Get the Girl: Despite his obvious feelings for Marinette, and their brief relationship over the season 3-4 break, he ultimately ends up helping her pursue Adrien.
  • Disappeared Dad: "Truth" reveals he never knew his father, and Anarka refuses to talk about him. His father is Jagged Stone, who walked out on him and Anarka to pursue his musical career.
  • Emo Teen: Subverted. He has the look of one, but is fairly laid-back and positive.
  • Everyone Can See It: Most characters notice what great chemistry Luka and Marinette share, and frequently remark what a cute couple they'd make. A few characters (Kagami and Bob Roth) even mistake them for a couple! Subverted when they actually get together at the end of Season 3, but played straight when they break up soon after.
  • Family Theme Naming: Like his mother and twin sister, his name ends in "-ka".
  • Foil: To Adrien — Both boys are teenagers with musical talent who attract Marinette's interest, but Luka is somewhat more emotionally open than the closed-off Adrien, and their musical styles (rock guitarist vs. classical pianist) contrast as well. Also, their ways of handling rejection differ as shown in "Frozer": Cat Noir's response is to act bitter and sulk despite Ladybug explicitly telling him she liked someone else, and while Marinette never told Luka her feelings for Adrien, he caught on and encouraged her to speak with Adrien.
  • A Friend in Need: Despite his lingering feelings for Marinette, in Season 4 he doesn't hesitate to encourage her to speak to Adrien, nor help Marinette and Adrien sort through their anxious feelings about their futures in "Wishmaker" because they're his friends and he wants them to be happy. He also never hesitates to protect his friends during Akuma attacks.
  • Friendly Rival: In contrast with Marinette and Kagami before they form a real friendship in "Ikari Gozen", Luka and Adrien bear no ill jealousy towards each other over Marinette's affection. Luka seems fine with Marinette's huge crush towards Adrien, and he also always encourages her to confess her feelings towards Adrien.
  • Heroic Bastard: He's the illegitimate son of Jagged Stone.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: In "Miracle Queen", he protects Marinette from the magic brainwashing wasps coming their way by using himself as a shield against them.
  • Heroic Willpower:
    • Has the honor of being the third character to attempt to resist an Akuma in "Truth". Like Bustier before him, he buckles in the end, but points for trying.
    • In "Migration" he actually manages to overcome the Akuma's influence completely, rejecting it before being fully akumatized so as to not reveal Ladybug's and Cat Noir's identities to Monarch.
  • Hidden Depths: Due to his Emo Teen look, love of playing rock guitar, and being in a Band of Relatives with his sister and being Jagged Stone's son, everyone assumes he wants to be The Rock Star when he grows up. "Wishmaker" reveals that Luka actually wants to make stringed musical instruments (even classical ones like violins) to help other people enjoy music. He's also shown to be a very gifted artisan, creating a violin that can play music from the cool breeze over the river.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Viperion's tool, of all things, is a harp or lyre. It isn't made clear as to how it can be used as a weapon, but he uses it as a distraction against Desperada that wins the battle. In a later episode, he's shown to throw his harp like a discus (and judging from the expression of the person he's hitting it with, it really hurts), or a shield (which he uses to deflect oncoming attacks).
  • Ink-Suit Actor: He looks somewhat similar to Andrew Russell, his English voice actor.
  • In the Blood: His incredible musical skills are implied to be inhereted from his music-loving mother. And his father, Jagged Stone.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy:
    • At the end of "Frozer", he notices Marinette's feelings for Adrien and despite his own attraction to her, Luka encourages Marinette to talk to Adrien in an attempt to sort out her feelings.
    • Does it again in "Heart Hunter" when Marinette is ready to throw herself into his arms when she's heart-broken over Adrien's feelings for Kagami. Rather than take advantage of her rebounding due to heartbreak, Luka urges her not to give up on the boy she still likes if she's still in love with him, and only be with Luka if it's what she really wants.
    • In "Cat Blanc", he's shown playing a song with the others while Marinette and Adrien have a romantic dance. In "Félix", Marinette is open about her crush on Adrien to him and he tells Marinette that he'll be happy for her and Adrien if they do end up together.
    • In "Wishmaker," he hints that he still has feelings for Marinette, but encourages her to talk to Adrien anyway. He even walks her over to Adrien and starts a conversation because he knows Marinette is too shy to make the first move.
  • Like Parent, Unlike Child: His mother Anarka is very bombastic and headstrong as is his father Jagged Stone, while Luka is more quiet and easy-going.
  • Living Lie Detector: Downplayed, but Luka has the uncanny ability to hear people's "inner music," or sense their inner emotions. As such, he can tell when Marinette is being sincere and when she's hiding something (though the latter is not hard since she's a Bad Liar) and he can often tell how people really feel under their turmoil, as shown with Adrien and Alec in "Wishmaker."
  • Lotus Position: Marinette finds him in one when she first meets him in "Captain Hardrock." It's implied that he often meditates which is why he's such a Mellow Fellow.
  • Love at First Sight: According, to one of the creators, Luka fell for Marinette at first sight when they first met in "Captain Hardrock". He confesses it to Marinette himself in "Silencer", first as Silencer and then as himself.
  • Love Hurts: Being in love with Marinette has taken its toll on him. As Marinette herself notes, Luka gets akumatized twice because of his feelings for her, and he becomes a Heartbroken Badass in Season 4 due to still being downhearted over their breakup in "Truth".
  • Love Martyr: Downplayed, but despite Marinette obviously still being in love with Adrien, Luka doesn't seem to mind being the obvious second choice. At least until the fourth season episode "Truth", where he finally reaches the limits of his patience.
  • Mellow Fellow: Luka is quite relaxed and easygoing.
  • Mistaken for Romance: Luka and Marinette are often mistaken for boyfriend and girlfriend throughout seasons 2 and 3. Downplayed as there is some mutual attraction between them, but Marinette is too smitten with Adrien to seriously think about anyone else. Averted when they finally do get together in the Season 3 Finale, but averted when they're forced to break up soon after.
  • Mr. Fanservice: While we can't deny he is as attractive as Adrien, Luka is also shown to be more muscular than him, judging from the physiques of his hero and villain identities, who all wear form-fitting bodysuits. Also, depending on your preference, being tall, lanky, more muscular, having a punk aesthetic, and playing rock guitar is very swoon-worthy.
  • Musical Assassin: His weapon as Viperion is a small harp or lyre.
  • Nice Guy: Luka is a polite and genial individual. It's quite telling that the first time he gets akumatized, it's over his friends getting screwed over, and the second time, he resists to the bitter end and tells Marinette (who is the target of his akuma-ire) to run just before succumbing. He's so nice that he can stand to listen and help Marinette vent to him about her love life even after their own romantic relationship fell apart, and tells her that if she needs him for more, she knows where to find him...and then also Adrien, Jagged Stone and Penny.
  • Opposites Attract: Downplayed. While Luka and Marinette are both Jagged Stone fans and artistic souls (Marinette with fashion designs, Luka with music) Marinette is still very anxious and klutzy, while Luka is very mellow and composed.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: As Viperion, the dyed parts in his hair go from teal blue to teal green.
  • Punny Name: Luka Couffeine likely refers to "acouphène", the French word for "tinnitus." It's most obvious in his debut episode "Captain Hardrock," where Luka is introduced to be part of a Band of Relatives who like to blast loud rock music from their houseboat. (So loud that it flips over several cars, and each time the Mic leaves feedback that sounds similar to tinnitus ringing in one's ears.) Probably explains why the rest of his family's first names also end in "-a" (Anarka, Juleka) to keep the pun.
  • Put on a Bus: In "Migration", he leaves Paris after Monarch finds out that he knows Ladybug's and Cat Noir's identities.
  • The Quiet One: Not as quiet as his sister Juleka, but he prefers to speak with music than his voice. It even becomes his defining akumatized feature in "Silencer".
  • The Reliable One: Part of what draws Marinette to Luka (especially over Season 3) is how dependable he is. As Marinette notes, he's always there for her and she can count on him for anything. This helps him stand out from Adrien, whose strict home life and obliviousness to her feelings, while not his fault, often leave her feeling miserable. Come season 5, he's even dependable enough to hear Marinette out with regards to her love life, despite being her ex...and Adrien, her new boyfriend. He'll even have a heart-to-heart with his own father, Jagged Stone, wondering about how to be a good dad after all that and then his assistant over being in love with Jagged.
  • Retcon: He was originally stated to be two years older than Juleka, but as of season 4, they are now twins, with Juleka still attending Collège Françoise Dupont because she failed and had to repeat a year.
  • The Rock Star: He likes playing guitar and is part of a rock band alongside his sister. He even has the strange ability to read people's emotions just by playing music on his guitar.
  • Romantic False Lead: He's set up throughout Seasons 2 and 3 as a potential alternate love interest for Marinette. They get together in the Season 3 finale, but break up in the Season 4 premiere.
  • Romantic Runner-Up: As Marinette and her friends discuss, there's nothing wrong with Luka. He's cute, kind, reliable, and would make an adorable couple with Marinette... He's just not Adrien. The two get together in the Season 3 finale, but it falls apart in the Season 4 premiere.
  • Sage Love Interest: He's rather spiritual, meditates, and has a "go with the flow" outlook on life that he uses to soothe Marinette's anxiety and help her feel more confident with herself.
  • Save Scumming: As Viperion, he can set a point in time to return to, and then return to that point as many times as needed as long as he stays within five minutes of it.
  • Secret-Keeper: He rejects an Akuma in order to not reveal Ladybug's and Cat Noir's identities to Monarch and leaves Paris by the end of "Migration" in order for Monarch to not be able to get to him and force him to reveal their identities.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: In "Wishmaker", he learns both Ladybug and Cat Noir's identities when they're affected by the titular villain. Ladybug is suspicious that he may have done so since he had clearly used Second Chance at least once during the fight, but he lies and tells her he didn't so she won't worry. He's forced to tell her one season later in "Migration" when Monarch realizes he knows while trying to akumatize him, and he explains this to all his friends when explaining why he has to leave the city.
  • Serenade Your Lover: Keeping in mind that it was Love at First Sight for Luka, he's often shown trying to woo Marinette with music. In the closing scene of the Season 3 finale, he briefly succeeds, but it doesn't last through the Season 4 premiere.
  • Shipper on Deck: After he and Marinette become Amicable Exes in Season 4, he asks her how things are going with Adrien and encourages her to confess her feelings more often.
  • Shoot the Medic First: Because of his powers, his enemies need to take him down first if they want to have any chance to win and as such, both Party Crasher and Cat Noir make him their number one target when they fight his team.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Easy going and sociable as opposed to the shy and reserved Juleka.
  • Snake People: Takes up the Snake Miraculous and becomes the superhero Viperion.
  • Support Party Member: Downplayed. Viperion's special power makes him more suited to a supporting role, even though he has the same enhanced strength and reflexes as any Miraculous holder. Putting himself in battle only risks him being disabled and the advantage of his Time Rewind Mechanic going with him.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Downplayed as he's the same height as Adrien and his black hair is (presumably) dyed teal, but he still gives off this vibe, particularly in his debut episode.
  • Tell Me About My Father: Grew up not knowing who his father was, but when he asked about it his mother refused to talk about him. It takes Anarka being put under a truth-telling spell by his second akumatized form to get her to say it was Jagged Stone.
  • Time Rewind Mechanic: His special power as Viperion is the ability to rewind time back to the moment he first activates his power, but only within a five minute limit.
  • Tsurime Eyes: Although not as pointy as Kagami. They represent his mature and Nice Guy side.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: A male example. He was already angry at Bob Roth, but seeing the guy threaten Marinette tipped Luka over into Akumatization.
  • Wacky Parent, Serious Child: Downplayed, but his mother Anarka is very bombastic and eccentric as is his father, Jagged Stone, while Luka is more responsible and down-to-earth. In particular, Anarka likes to keep a messy house while Luka's cabin is shown to be very tidy, and she refuses to turn the music down in her debut episode while Luka was more than willing.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: He's very patient, mature and sage-like for a 15 to 16-year-old. Often, his wisdom and maturity puts most adults in the room to shame. His English voice actor even stated that the reason he doesn't tell Marinette that he discovered her and Cat Noir's secret identities is because he understands it's a secret too great for him, or anyone else, to know about.
  • The Worf Effect: While invaluable in his debut, Viperion has been less effective in his next appearances. He gets trapped by Party Crasher first after throwing himself in the path of his beam to protect his allies, and in "Miracle Queen", Cat Noir and Ladybug managed to anticipate his Second Chances before defeating him. He's notably the only brainwashed hero to be "defeated" by having his Miraculous removed (everyone else only was stopped by Miracle Queen's defeat), and the only one of them to not once get the better of Ladybug and Cat Noir during the fight (while Rena and King Monkey manage to trick and depower Dragon Bug with their abilities while Pegasus warps Snake Noir into the sun though both are undone by Snake Noir using Viperion's own power in a bit of irony). Somewhat justified by the fact that in his first episode, he was an unknown element, while everyone now knows to Shoot the Medic First.

    Max Kanté/Pegasus

Pegasus (Max Kanté)

Akumatized form: Gamer/Gamer 2.0

"Let's show them who's gold!"

Voiced by: Martial Le Minoux (FR), Ben Diskin (EN; seasons 1-3), Zeno Robinson (EN, currently) Foreign VAs

One of the smartest kids in the class, Max is an avid gamer and tech wizard. He is good friends with Kim.

In the episode "Startrain", when he helps the heroes defeat his mom, Ladybug gives him the Horse Miraculous to survive the harsh conditions, and he ultimately becomes the hero Pegasus. He returns to this form in "Party Crasher".

  • All There in the Manual: Thomas Astruct confirms that he's asexual in a tweet.
  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: Has thick, brown eyebrows.
  • Black and Nerdy: He's black and seems the part by all accounts — he dresses like one, he serves as The Smart Guy for the class, and dedicated a significant amount of time to mastering a video game.
  • Brains and Brawn: He's a nerdy kid who is best friends with Kim, a Dumb Jock.
  • Cool Shades: Wears these instead of a mask as Pegasus. As his Miraculous are the shades, this makes sense.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Brown hair and eyes.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: As he was just a background character back then, Max is glasses-less when he debuts.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Builds a very sophisticated robot, Markov, in season two.
  • Good with Numbers: Max is very good in mathematics, as seen when he figures out how fast Kim needs to be to make it to Pont des Arts right before Chloé gets there in "Dark Cupid".
  • Mercury's Wings: On his shoes, as Pegasus.
  • Momma's Boy: He loves his mother dearly, finishing off each other’s calculations and supporting her when she’s anxious about her exam results, and becomes a Miraculous holder primarily to save her when she’s akumatized.
  • Nerd Glasses: Large, square black ones.
  • Nice Guy: He's usually friendly with his classmates, often using his knowledge to help them.
  • Odd Friendship: He's close friends with Kim, who is pretty much his polar opposite.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: His hair changes to light grey when he uses the Horse Miraculous, not unlike Kaalki's mane.
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: Using the Horse Miraculous changes his hairstyle and colour.
  • Precision-Guided Boomerang: Pegasus's weapon is a boomerang, his calculated mind capable of anticipating its trajectory.
  • Reed Richards Is Useless: His Robot Buddy he made is apparently sophisticated enough to learn and even feel angry...and it doesn't get quickly famous and hailed as the greatest computing breakthrough of all time, for some reason. Averted when it's revealed in "Intuition" that he made the code for Markov public domain for anyone to use, and it becomes the basis for the AI that controls a spaceship.
  • Shout-Out: His outfit as Pegasus seems to be a reference to Neo and Morpheus.
  • The Smart Guy: Max seems to be this for the class, willing to rattle off facts and statistics at the slightest provocation.
  • Smart People Build Robots: Max invented his cute Robot Buddy, Markov, whose A.I. is somehow sophisticated enough to be akumatized.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Max wears Nerd Glasses and is the smartest one in Marinette's class. His Miraculous is even a pair of glasses.
  • Sore Loser:
  • Teen Genius: Is about 13-15, but in "Robostus", he manages to build Markov, a small flying robot with A.I. so advanced that it is fully sentient and capable of emotions.
  • Thinking Up Portals: As Pegasus, he is able to create portals through space with his special power, Voyage.
  • The Unchosen One: Downplayed and Played With. Ladybug didn’t necessarily intend to give out a miraculous in "Startrain", but she did so to ensure Max would survive the sub zero temperatures and lack of air. With that said, Max is a noble and trustworthy person, and he proves his full worth and continues to be the horse hero.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: In "Party Crasher", he has Markov redirect all the power in the Agreste mansion to Adrien's speakers. This ends up turning off Emilie's life support, prompting Gabriel to akumatize Wayhem to save her life.

    Kagami Tsurugi/Ryuko

Kagami Tsurugi/Ryuko

Akumatized forms: Riposte/Riposte Prime, Oni-Chan, Lies, Ryukomori

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1000003060.png
"The only reason you can't stand on your feet is your hesitation. I never hesitate."
Click here to see her as Ryuko

Voiced by: Clara Soares (FR), Faye Mata (EN) Foreign VAs

The heiress of a high-profile Japanese family. A skilled fencing student, she becomes a rival of Adrien, and later a friend to Marinette.

In the episode "Ikari Gozen", she becomes the Dragon Miraculous hero, Ryuko, but is temporarily benched when she indirectly reveals her identity to Hawk Moth.

  • Abduction Is Love: In "Pretension", she begins to develop feelings for Félix, despite him kidnapping her, as he revealed his dislike of oppressive people and even defends him from Ladybug and Cat Noir.
  • Academic Athlete: Kagami is a terrific fencer, ice skater, and archer. She also proves her intelligence in "Ikari Gozen", by solving all the riddles very quickly.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: She develops feelings for and eventually starts dating Félix, a former villain who sold out Paris to his supervillain uncle and tried to exterminate humanity and recreate a new world where beings like him can be free.
  • All There in the Manual: If the in-character Instagram accounts are to be taken as canon and have accurate dates to the timeline outside of the holidays, Kagami's birthday is or is roughly November 20. This is in line with her saying at the end of "Ikari Gozen" that she's a Scorpio, given this sign boundaries are 23th October - 22th November.
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: While her hair is blue, most characters describe it as black, and Kagami is a fairly stoic and quiet character even after defrosting thanks to Marinette and Adrien's presence.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Her official bio and her words towards Adrien and Marinette from "Protection": "I love you both! I truly wish you two being in love wasn't so painful to me, but it is." imply that she may have romantic feelings for Marinette as well as for Adrien.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Many Japanese families (especially for samurai or ninja descendants) or families who are prestigious on some specific Japanese martial arts still embrace the traditional patrilineal system, thus make most of their surnames taken from their father's side. In Kagami's case, however, her surname is taken from her mother's family name, which means that the possibility that her parents are no longer together exists. However, in Japan, if the woman is from a famous/prestigious family, the husband would take his wife's surname, especially if the family only had a daughter since the husband taking his wife's surname would help to continue the family name.
  • Amicable Exes: She and Adrien had a rough break-up, but they eventually become friends.
  • Ambiguously Human: Just like Adrien and Félix, there are hints across season 5 that she's a human created by the Peacock Miraculous. Unlike them, there's much less foreshadowing about it and no confirmation about it even as she begins dating the latter.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: In line with her Japanese culture, Kagami shows in "Ikari Gozen" that she believes in the Blood Types (A, B, O, AB) personalities chart when she tries to befriend Marinette, yet at the end of said episode, says she doesn't believe in horoscopes, despite knowing her Western sign (Scorpio). Her opinion about Eastern horoscopes remains unknown.
  • The Atoner: She attempts to take on Ikari Gozen alone since she was responsible for her Akumatization. It doesn't work, although she succeeds when she follows Ladybug's plan (where she's the star player).
  • Bait-and-Switch Boss: In "Ikari Gozen", her disappointment upon finding out Marinette was only pretending to be her friend to sabotage her so she couldn't hook up with Adrien makes her vulnerable to an Akuma, but Marinette saves her by sticking up for her when her mother calls and demands she comes home, which to her mother's Akumatization instead.
  • Bilingual Bonus: The Tsurugi family crest on Kagami's ring is the Japanese word for "woman" with a sword in it.
  • Birds of a Feather: Is a firm believer this should be the basis of her love relationships.
  • Born of Magic: She's heavily implied to have been magically created by the Peacock Miraculous, especially by comments such as from Gabriel about her and Adrien being perfect for each other as they were "made of the same design" (implying that the reason their parents are trying to force them into an arranged marriage is cause they're both humans created by the Peacock Miraculous) and Félix remarking that he finally found a girl just like him after strangely reacting upon noticing her family ring (implying that he sensed her Amok inside the ring with the Peacock Miraculous).
  • Broken Ace: Kagami is extremely talented in various areas: fencing, academics, ikebana, ice skating, drawing, etc. Yet her social isolation (having no friends whatsoever, at least in Paris), the insane pressure and control her mother puts upon her all make Kagami extremely vulnerable to any failing and feeling of rejection. The turmoil of her usually repressed emotions then plunge her into deep sadness/depression and/or rage. This makes her especially easy to akumatize: with Chloé and Mr. Ramier (but the latter is mostly a Running Gag), she's one of the most often akumatized character.
  • Brutal Honesty: Kagami doesn't seem to have a filter of any kind; if she has something on her mind, she'll generally blurt it out without considering the consequences or if the words hurt anybody.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Shows shades of this with Adrien. Upon Lila sending everyone a photo of her kissing Adrien on the cheek, Kagami is akumatized due to her jealousy and threatens Lila to give up Adrien, declaring him to be the only one worthy of her affections. When Marinette greets them onboard the Liberty, Kagami clings tighter to Adrien's arm while narrowing her eyes at Marinette. On two different occasions she warns Marinette about her hesitation with Adrien, though it's difficult to tell if her advice is well-meaning or taunting, due to her delivery. While she and Marinette do become friends later, she chooses Adrien over their friendship (though she does regret hurting Marinette's feelings), with Marinette doing the opposite.
  • Cold Ham: In "Ikari Gozen", she asks Marinette various personal questions ranging from her ethical decision-making to her blood-type, reading them all straight from an online friendship test in the same blank expression and deadpan monotone as when she is figuring out the clues to the contest. When she is Ryuko, the ham isn't nearly as cold.
  • Color Motifs: Red and various shades of White.
    • She and her mother Tomoe are strongly associated with Red: she sports a Scottish red tie and pleated skirt by default, and her fencing attire is red unlike every other ones. Her Miraculouzed appearance has almost as much Red than Ladybug's, just with a bigger Black percentage and some yellow lines. Her mother's akumatized forms are all red. Their autodriven car Tatsu is also flamboyant Red.
    • Kagami's akumatized forms always go for something on the White scale: plain White with black markings and a red horn for Oni-chan ; Silver for Riposte ; Silver (herself) & White (her sphere of magical retribution) for Lies ; and a giant Gray cloudy self in "Protection".
  • Commonality Connection:
    • Kagami is a new student to the school, just as Adrien was. They're also both skilled in fencing and are lonely prodigies from an upper class family.
    • This also allows the romance between her and Félix to bloom, as the two of them are horribly suffocated by their parents' controlling nature, and desire to be free.
  • Cunning Linguist: Despite being a relatively recent New Transfer Student coming from Japan, she speaks a very good French aside from her native Japanese. She also likely knows English. It's also shown in the series that she's studying and is able to speak Russian.
  • The Corruptible: While everyone being this is standard for the akumatized villains, Kagami is second only to Chloé in having the most akumatized forms of all the Miraculous Team with four: Riposte, Oni-Chan, Lies, Ryukomori, and if you count Riposte Prime, then it turns into a whooping five.
  • Custom Uniform: Kagami's fencing uniform is red instead of the standard white like the rest of the class.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: Mother in her case, as by the end of "Pretension", she starts to reciprocate Félix's feelings for her, despite her mother considering him "a good-for-nothing" and wanting her to get back with his cousin Adrien.
  • Deconstructed Character Archetype: Kagami deconstructs Ice Queen and Ineffectual Loner. While it makes sense that Kagami is a bit of a loner since she is an exchange student from Japan, her Friendless Background is actually caused by her mother forbidding her from having friends, in order to keep focusing on her fencing and kendo training, not because she chose it. This results in Marinette and her friends thinking she is a shallow, cold-hearted girl who is as bad as Lila and Chloé. As "Ikari Gozen" shows, Kagami has trouble forming a normal friendship with Marinette and when she finds out that Marinette hates her, Kagami genuinely sad over this.
  • Demoted to Satellite Love Interest: After being a significant player in season 2 and a supporting character in season 3 and 4, season 5 has her get hit with the Miraculous being transformed into allience rings the hardest, has her character eventually revolve around her relationship with Adrien, where her mother and his father intend to pair them up together, and Félix, whom she begins to date after "Pretension" when he kidnaps her in order to take her away from her controlling mother.
  • Disappeared Dad: It is unknown if Kagami's father is present in her life. Either both her parents raised her, or her mother, Tomoe, raised her alone.
  • Elemental Powers: She has them in her hero form, Ryuko. She receives them once again as an akumatized villain through her Alliance Ring in "Perfection".
  • Elemental Shapeshifter: The power of the Dragon Miraculous grants her this.
  • Emotion Suppression: Her mother expects this from her, causing Kagami to have a hard time understanding and controlling her emotions. In "Protection" it takes a toll on her, leading to her akumatization. After her deakumatization, Adrien and Marinette encourages her to embrace them.
  • Fatal Flaw: She has no verbal filter; what she thinks is exactly what comes out. This is what puts her civilian identity at risk and causes their friendship to hit a rocky start.
  • Foil:
    • To Marinette/Ladybug — They both have black hair stylized as blue (but Kagami has Boyish Short Hair similar to Sabine while Marinette/Ladybug has hers in Girlish Pigtails), attract Adrien's affections, are from prominent Asian ethnicities, and wear red suits. But while Marinette is open and friendly, but has trouble expressing her crush on Adrien, Kagami is more closed-off and distant but is more confident in making her attraction to Adrien known. There's also their reactions to Chloé's bullying. While Marinette lets Chloé bully her for years before finally learning to stand up for herself, Kagami immediately tells Chloé where she can shove it the very first time she tries. Taken further in Season 3; just like how Adrien and Luka are both Snake Miraculous heroes at different points, Marinette and Kagami both become Dragon Miraculous holders. But the former uses it temporarily and fuses its power with her Ladybug Miraculous, the latter is the "primary" wielder and uses it by itself.
    • To Adrien — As stated above in the section, both of them lonely prodigies from an upper class family, and Kagami has a family ring that mirrors Adrien's Miraculous. But, while Adrien has a more friendly if slightly reserved personality, Kagami is more aggressive and is more reserved than he is. Ultimately, both want to have friends, an effort that initially goes poorly due to having No Social Skills and strict parenting but eventually succeeds.
    • To Chloé — Both are teenaged girls from well-off families who have a romantic interest in Adrien—but Chloé is a Spoiled Brat who acts like she's already Adrien's girlfriend (despite his feelings on the matter) while Kagami is an all around much better (if somewhat cold) person who doesn't feel entitled to Adrien's affection and Adrien has actually shown a modicum of interest in her.
    • To Lila — Both are teenaged girls who have an attraction to Adrien — but Lila is an unrepentant liar who tries to force her feelings on Adrien and is quite antagonistic towards Marinette while Kagami is honest to the point of bluntness, has a reciprocal attraction (to some degree) with Adrien, and has a more civilized relationship with Marinette, but soon becomes real friends with Marinette once they set aside their differences in "Ikari Gozen". They're both alone when they transfer and have different ways of dealing with it; Lila lies to gain friends and threatens to destroy anyone who opposes her, using them like tools, while Kagami refuses to stoop low to become popular, but doesn't actually know how to make friends naturally, leaving her stuck trying to use an app to figure out how to communicate.
    • To Luka — Both are introduced in Season 2 as a romantic false lead for one of the main duo. But whereas Luka is a Mellow Fellow who appreciates Marinette for who she is, Kagami is Loving a Shadow of Adrien and is disappointed by his true personality. And when both discover the identity of Ladybug, Luka resists Akumatisation and skips town so that he won’t give it away, while Kagami gets akumatised twice without revealing anything.
  • Friendly Rival: More like Civilized Rival. Kagami likes Adrien, but wants to win his affections fair and square. After realizing Marinette's feelings for him, she gives her solid advice to not hesitate in being forward with Adrien. The two end up being friends for real in "Ikari Gozen".
  • Good Is Not Soft:
    • While she is an overall decent person, Kagami bluntly whispers to Marinette how her hesitation is hindering her in both ice skating and winning over Adrien.
    • This trope actually holds her back from making friends with others, as her Brutal Honesty is interpreted as hostility and coldness, which is part of why Marinette doesn’t want to socialize with her during "Ikari Gozen".
    • In "Representation", she and Félix subject Marinette to some light brainwashing in order to prepare her for a final fight with Monarch, impressing upon her that Monarch is a danger to everyone and that she cannot afford to hold back against him.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: She really tries to hold in her envy. Unfortunately, Hawk Moth doesn't care and takes advantage of it in "Oni-Chan" to akumatize her over her jealousy of Adrien's photo with Lila. This is seen again in "Protection" where Lila takes advantage of her residual jealousy over Adrien's relationship with Marinette in order to deliberately get her akumatized again. And in "Emotion", after being asked by Félix (who was pretending to be Adrien) if she was jealous of "his" relationship with Marinette, she replied a little, but that she'll shut her feelings for Marinette's sake.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: A bigger example than the other temporary Miraculous wielders. Since Hawk Moth learns her identity, she only fights alongside Ladybug and Cat Noir for one battle before Ladybug is forced to retire her. As of "Mega Leech", Ryuko is seemingly back on the roster, presumably because with Shadow Moth having discovered the identities of the majority of the team anyway and Ladybug deciding she needs them despite that, Kagami's only as vulnerable as the others now making keeping her away a moot point.
  • Hair Color Dissonance: Like Marinette, her hair is colored blue but is described as black In-Universe.
  • Heartbroken Badass: She's an Academic Athlete and an example of Sacrificed Basic Skill for Awesome Training who gets heartbroken over her failed relationship with Adrien (especially in season 5 when he starts dating Marinette and she realises that she still has feelings for him), said heartbreak over her feelings for Adrien leading to a good chunk of her Akumatizations. She eventually gets over him however once she starts falling for his cousin, Félix.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: She's a skilled fencer. Appropriately, as the Dragon Miraculous holder, her primary weapon is a sword.
  • Heroic Willpower: In "Perfection", she manages to break free of the Akuma's influence after being shown that she's not alone and friendless as she was initially led to believe by Lila.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: In "Miracle Queen" she lets herself to be stung by the titular villain's brainwashing wasps to protect Adrien. Also in "Pretension", when being hunted by her akumatized mother, Kagami suggested to Argos (who kidnapped her and got her mother akumatized in the first place) to leave her behind, to get her to stop attacking him. However, he refuses.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation:
    • She considers herself not worthy to fight against her mother. She's correct; "worth" in this case refers to kenjutsu skill, and though she's a superb swordswoman, she's not on her mother's level.
    • When Kagami discovers the messages between Alya and Marinette, rather than losing her temper, Kagami instead expresses disappointment and laments over not being worthy to foster a friendship. By then, Marinette comes to her senses and forgoes her initial jealousy to truly become Kagami's friend.
    • When her attempt at fighting Ikari Gozen alone fails, Ryuko apologizes to Ladybug for failing to listen to her and feels that she doesn't deserve her trust in wielding a Miraculous. Ladybug assures her that it's alright as she's made mistakes before and allows Ryuko to make up for her mistake by following the plan this time.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Her tenure as Ryuko reveals a reckless side to Kagami. She disregards Longg attempting to tell her of Ladybug's plan and immediately gives away her identity because she thinks it's best to fight Ikari Gozen alone. Needless to say, it goes poorly.
    • "Lies" reveals that she's quite good at drawing.
    • Her multiple Akumatizations show that, despite coming across as a stoic Ice Queen, her feelings are intense and run deep. It gets lampshaded by Hawk Moth in "Oni-Chan", who remarks that "the strongest anger isn't always the nosiest one".
    • In "Glaciator 2", it's revealed that she is an avid reader of Shoujo manga.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: In season 5, she keeps believing that Lila considers her as a genuine friend, despite the fact that she has gotten her akumatized multiple times and briefly turned her against Marinette.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: In "Lies" when she's confronting Adrien over his deception, Kagami acknowledges she's just as much a liar as him.
  • Hypocritical Humor: In "Pretention", after Félix let go of her at the Eiffel Tower 3rd floor's appartment and basically confesses he has a crush on her, Kagami utters an exasperated "You are completely incompetent when it comes to human relationships". Especially funny given how little social skills she herself had when introduced.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: In "Ikari Gozen", she attempts to befriend Marinette, but is brushed off for being a rival to Adrien's affections. She also runs off with Marinette and co. without her mother's permission in an effort to befriend them. Fortunately, Marinette realizes her mistake and reciprocates Kagami's friendship. It's also revealed that Kagami doesn't have access to social media or other phone contacts due to her strict mother.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: When Adrien states that he's returning to his original target in Ladybug, Kagami accepts his decision, but tells him that when he realizes he's gone after the wrong target, she'll be waiting for him. In short, Kagami is aware of Adrien having a crush on another girl, with the implication that she knows it to be Marinette or closely related to her, but she will be ready to claim Adrien if things don't work out the way he intended. This becomes especially true in season 5 where, despite her lingering feelings for Adrien (and potentially for Marinette too), she wants her mother to stop trying to force her and Adrien to get back together, as she supports Adrien's relationship with Marinette and doesn't want to hurt either of their friends. Unfortunately, her mother refuses to listen to her.
  • It's Personal: As Ryuko, she attempts to take on Ikari Gozen herself since she caused her mother to get akumatized in the first place. It doesn't work due to her being a Leeroy Jenkins.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While she was somewhat blunt to Marinette in "Frozer", Kagami made a valid point that the one of the main reasons Marinette's relationship with Adrien hasn't progressed is because of her own hesitation.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Kagami is blunt, taunts her opponents during a fencing duel, and is even described as an "ice queen". However, she has shown to be quite hospitable and a graceful loser. And although her relationship with Marinette gets a little rocky in "Frozer", she reaches out to her in an effort to become friends with her in "Ikari Gozen" as she had planned to do as stated at the end of "Riposte".
  • Joshikousei: Kagami's everyday outfit appears to be a school uniform, an homage to her Japanese heritage.
  • Leeroy Jenkins:
    • Surprisingly, she turns out to be this as Ryuko. Despite being normally composed, she jumps at the chance of being a superhero and is blinded by how she must take responsibility for a problem that was her fault when Longg introduces himself, in spite of Longg trying to explain a plan to her. This results in Cat Noir getting temporarily incapacitated and Ikari Gozen no worse for wear (as well as the side effect of her indirectly blurting out her identity, which means she'll be unlikely to be called upon for help again). Fortunately, Ryuko realizes her mistake in this and is able to make up for it shortly afterwards by listening to the plan this time.
    • Going by production order, she first displays her fearless charge in "Desperada", facing the titular akuma with a stage microphone as her improvised weapon. Kagami is promptly captured.
  • Loony Friends Improve Your Personality: Getting to know Marinette and the real Adrien (as opposed to the "perfect" version of him that she had in her head) does a lot to soften Kagami's rough edges.
  • Love Hurts: If her number of Akumatizations caused or related to her feelings for Adrien is any indication.
  • Loving a Shadow: It's revealed in "Lies" that her feelings towards Adrien are this, as when she tells him to act more natural, to which he acts a bit more like he does as Cat Noir, she does not like the result and doesn't believe that to be his true personality. Justified in that Adrien hides his goofier personality from others in public for his father, meaning that Kagami can't possibly know that this is him being natural.
  • Master Swordsman: She comes from a family of Olympic fencing champions, and she's at the same level as Adrien, who's the best pupil of an Olympic fencer as well. As Ryuko, adding Super-Speed, Super-Strength, Elemental Shapeshifter powers and a magic sword to her preexisting skills makes her one of Ladybug and Cat Noir's most impressive ally.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • In Japanese, "kagami" means mirror, befitting how she's a Foil to Marinette and Adrien. Her Akuma form as Riposte is even shiny like a mirror.
    • Her last name is the Japanese word for sword, and she's the latest in a line of fencing champions.
    • Her superhero name is "Ryuko", which is Japanese for "dragon child".
  • My God, What Have I Done?:
    • She feels guilty for upsetting her mother in "Ikari Gozen", as it caused her to be akumatized. It's part of why Marinette/Ladybug decides that she's worthy enough to have a Miraculous and also causes Kagami/Ryuko to initially attempt to take on Ikari Gozen alone in an attempt to atone.
    • In "Protection", after her de-Akumatization, she feels incredibly guilty for believing Lila's lies about Marinette and almost destroying their friendship over them and breaks up crying in front of both Marinette and Adrien.
  • Nom de Mom: Her surname comes from her mother's family's side.
  • No Social Skills: Due to being raised in a strict environment and having very little contact with peers her age like Adrien. She is generally blunt to the point of brutal honesty, which would repel people that can't handle her strong personality. In "Ikari Gozen", she relies on an app on how to make friends when partnered with Marinette, asking her bizarre questions and following each of her statements with an awkward forced smile.
  • Not Even Bothering with the Accent: Like Lila, although she isn't from France, she speaks with a native accent.
  • Not So Stoic: In "Oni-Chan", she gets a photo of Lila kissing Adrien on the cheek, to which she angrily slices down some trees so hard her bokken breaks, and then she breaks down crying. Cue Akuma.
    • In a different direction, getting her depressed is quite easy as "Ikari Gozen" and above all "Perfection" clearly show.
  • Open Secret: She takes approximately three seconds to blow her identity to Hawk Moth, a feat only matched by Chloé (who did so deliberately).note  Because of this, Ladybug informs her that she has to retire, although she brings her back in "Heart Hunter" in a weak attempt to sabotage her romantic moment with Adrien. Ladybug keeps entrusting her with the Dragon Miraculous throughout season 4 after several other temporary heroes got exposed by Miracle Queen.
  • Our Humans Are Different: She's heavily implied to be a human created by the Peacock Miraculous alongside Adrien and Félix.
  • Perpetual Frowner: She goes at everything with a deadpan expression and monotone delivery. When she smiles, it initially looks completely forced.
  • Red Is Heroic: Not only does her civilian outfit and fencing gear have notable shades of red, her superhero form is primarily red in color, matching the Dragon Kwami, Longg.
  • Rei Ayanami Expy: She fits the bill in being an love interest of Adrien, having her hair styled in a bob cut, and having a Sugar-and-Ice Personality along with a strong connection to her mother.
  • Relationship Upgrade: She officially enters a relationship with Félix as of "Representation".
  • Romantic False Lead: She's set up throughout Seasons 2 and 3 as a potential alternate love interest for Adrien. They get together in the Season 3 finale, but break up in the second episode of Season 4.
  • Sacrificed Basic Skill for Awesome Training: With a Control Freak mother who puts Gabriel to shame, Kagami is an expert fencer that has made her a Worthy Opponent for Adrien and a deadly foe for Ladybug and Cat Noir on the multiple occasions she was akumatized. With that said, she has No Social Skills, repeatedly giving Marinette mixed-messages in regards to Adrien and asking Marinette various questions from an online friendship test in an unnatural monotone.
  • Samus Is a Girl: Everybody refers to her with male pronouns during her match with Adrien until she removes her mask, completely overlooking the fact that her fencing suit is relatively form-fitting, enough so that her gender is rather obvious. Averted in the French version, however, where everyone knows she's a girl and Adrien's shock at her removing her mask is all to do with her looks rather than her Gender Reveal.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper:
    • It's revealed in "Representation" that Kagami had overheard Marinette talking about "losing the Miraculous" back in "Perfection" and had worked out that Marinette was Ladybug. Kagami was akumatized twice after overhearing that, both times because she was upset with Marinette, and she still never let on prior to confiding the information to Félix.
    • She's also one of the few people that know Gabriel used to be Monarch by the end of season 5 and are keeping it a secret from the general public and especially from Adrien.
  • Shipper on Deck: A downplayed example. While she's interested in Adrien, she does give Marinette some advice on pursuing him, with the implication that she suspects Adrien has feelings for Marinette. After her ill-fated time dating him between seasons 3 and 4, she gives up on him; by "Mr. Pigeon 72" she is fully aware of Marinette's feelings for him, and concludes while watching them: "They are really made for the each other."
  • Ship Tease: With Félix, as in "Emotion" he flirts with her while disguised as Adrien and empathized with her feeling controlled by her mother, and she was impressed by his willingness to defy Gabriel, before the former revealed his identity. Later in "Pretension" she starts to return his feelings. As of "Representation", they're officially an item.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: When Chloé tries to bully her, she swiftly and brutally puts the little brat in her place.
Chloé: What do you think you're doing, sitting next to my Adrikins?! That's my seat!
Kagami: Don't ever touch me again. Don't ever speak to me again. Don't ever look at me again.
    Chloé: [backs right off]
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Kagami is even called "ice queen", but has shown to be polite and friendly underneath her icy exterior.
  • Tantrum Throwing: Kagami has a tendency to throw anything she may have at her hand when she sees something that particularly angries her. Cases in point being her cell phone in "Oni-chan", and one of her shoes upon a TV screen, twice in two different episodes. In "Representation", she was ready to throw the remote control at the television.
  • Took a Level in Badass: This girl already shows off amazing strength with her sword fighting skills, but then takes it to new heights when she becomes the Dragon Miraculous hero, Ryuko.
  • Took a Level in Cheerfulness: After befriending Marinette, Kagami is shown having fun with Adrien and Marinette when they attempt to sneak out from the Bourgeois' anniversary party.
  • Tough Love: In "Representation", she and Félix put Marinette through the emotional wringer to prepare her for the final fight with Monarch, as she needs to understand that Gabriel is past the point of reason and that not even appealing to his love for Adrien will stop him.
  • Trophy Child: To her mother as she expects her daughter to be perfect and under her control.
  • Tsurime Eyes: In contrast to Marinette's Tareme Eyes.
  • Two First Names: Inverted. "Kagami" and "Tsurugi" are both recognized, albeit uncommon, Japanese family names.
  • Unrequited Love: In season 5 she admits that she has fallen in love with Adrien again even while he's dating Marinette, but this time she puts her feelings aside for the sake of her friendship with Marinette, which Félix called admirable. Her official bio also implies that she may have developed an unrequited crush on Marinette as well.
  • The Unsmile: Makes several of those while trying to bond with Marinette in "Ikari Gozen". Averted when she smiles sincerely.
  • Worf Had the Flu: In "Ikari Gozen", she is given the Dragon Miraculous when he mother is akumatized. As Ryuko, she has the same superpowers (and Instant Expert feature) as every other miraculous user. Unique to her however is that she is an Elemental Shapeshifter with real-life fighting experience in swordsmanship. The result is a Lightning Bruiser with a magic sword, the skills to use it, can move in Flash Step and is capable of fighting Ikari Gozen (who is a 50-foot tall Master Swordsman) to a standstill. Unfortunately, she was not allowed a secret identity because she needed the miraculous to free herself from Ikari Gozen's body, thus making any future appearances as Ryuko a liability that made her a "in-case of emergency" hero only.
  • Youthful Freckles: More so than Marinette.

A spirited, athletic tomboy whose father and brother are historians.

In "Timetagger" it’s revealed that, in the future, she will become the Rabbit superheroine Bunnyx, which happens to the present-day Alix in "Evolution".

In General

  • Adorable Fluffy Tail: Timetagger annoys Bunnyx by nicknaming her "Fluffy Tail", since she has a rabbit bobtail.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Her older self refers to Fluff as "Big Ears", and her younger self "Mini Me". She also calls Fluff "Big Ears" in "Evolution" when she transforms into Bunnyx for the first time at the end.
  • Alice Allusion: Her name is a French variation of "Alice", as in Alice in Wonderland, who entered the titular wonderland while going down the rabbit hole chasing a white rabbit. Alix is eventually revealed to be the future superheroine Bunnyx, using her watch, which turns out to be Rabbit Miraculous, to transform into a time traveling superhero who can enter another dimension called the Burrow that lets her watch the timelines.
  • All There in the Manual: Both incidents occur on twitter.
    • The creator has stated Alix's family are of Berber origin (an Afro-Asiatic ethnic group).
    • The creator has also claimed that Alix is aromantic.
  • All-Powerful Bystander: With the Rabbit Miraculous, Alix has the power to travel through time at her leisure, and with Burrow, she can even see multiple outcomes in the timelines, and figure out what needs to be done in order to lead to what timeline. However, since this comes with a lot of responsibility, she has taught herself discipline in order to ensure she doesn't abuse this power.
  • Ascended Extra: Had very little screentime in season one outside of her Akumatization episode. Starting in season two, she's had more lines, received additional character focus, and has established friendships with Marinette and Nathaniel, among other things. She’s also the first of the classmates to be revealed to be a permanent Miraculous holder in the future.
  • Boyish Short Hair: Her future self sports a red messy pixie cut, while present Alix's hair is more pinkish and messy overall.
  • Blue Is Heroic: As Bunnyx, her secondary color is light blue, and she serves as the guardian of the timelines.
  • Can't Live Without You: Justified. Because the present and future versions of Alix are one and the same, if the present version dies, so will the future version, although it will not be instantaneous. "Cat Blanc" involves Bunnyx slowly being erased from existence when the bad future leads Cat Noir to be akumatized and wipe out Paris, her present/past self included, forcing her to send Ladybug in there in order to fix everything.
  • Casual Time Travel: As Bunnyx, she has the power to travel through time with very little effort, though she still tries to only ever get involved when things get particularly hairy in the present timeline.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The watch that her father gave her during "Timebreaker" and led to her first akumatization? It turns out to be the disguised Rabbit Miraculous, which she's expected to inherit to become the time traveling heroine Bunnyx.
  • Dub Name Change: Her name is "Aleks" in the Serbian dub.
  • Hidden Depths: "Reverser" shows that she does street art and is a good kite flyer. She's also buddies with Nathaniel.
  • I Got Bigger: She's currently one of the shortest students in Marinette's class, but as shown by her future self, she'll get a huge growth spurt in the future.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: Her facial features are similar to Kira Buckland's.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Alix is a bold and outgoing Tomboy. Nathaniel is a shy and quiet artist. They're both friends.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name is an old French variant of "Alice", and she will grow up to ally with a white rabbit.
  • My Future Self and Me: In "Timetagger", Alix is overjoyed to meet her future self, the superhero Bunnyx.
  • Parental Favoritism: According to creator Thomas Astruc, Mr. Kubdel favors Alix over Jalil.
  • Prophetic Name: Alix is a variation on the name "Alice", as in Alice in Wonderland, who chased after a white rabbit. Her future Kwami partner, Fluff, turns out to be a white rabbit-like Kwami who gives her the power to travel through time.
  • Stable Time Loop: Alix is the holder of the Rabbit Miraculous because her future self told Ladybug she would be.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: Downplayed. Technically speaking, there's nothing supernatural or physical preventing Alix from returning home once she gets full ownership of the Rabbit Miraculous. However, because the power of said Miraculous is far too dangerous to risk it falling in the wrong hands, she leaves her timeline to join her future self in the Burrow to learn how to become the guardian of the timelines. By the end of season 5, that danger has passed and she's able to return.

Present Alix

  • Berserker Tears: After the watch is destroyed a second time in "Timebreaker", Past Alix blames Ladybug, and is seen angrily sulking above its bits before she gets akumatized.
  • A Birthday, Not a Break: Her akumatization into Timebreaker takes place on her fifteenth birthday. As if that wasn't bad enough, time travel shenanigans cause her to be akumatized twice.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": She wears a hat that has a stylized "S" on it.
  • But Now I Must Go: Because she played a very important part in taking Monarch down a peg, and her Miraculous is far too dangerous to be kept in his vicinity, Alix ends "Evolution" by leaving with her future self in order to eventually become the guardian of the timelines that she became.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Alix tends to be very sarcastic about the insane goings-on around her.
  • Did You Just Scam Cthulhu?: In "Evolution", she uses her own Fetch ability as Canigirl in order to snatch away the Rabbit Miraculous from Monarch, who at that point has every single other Miraculous at his disposal and is pretty much a god-like entity, before she unifies both Miraculous when he tries to recall the latter, depriving him from ownership to it and taking away one of his most powerful assets.
  • Fantasy Helmet Enforcement: She wears a helmet, as well as knee and elbow pads, for her short race against Kim.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Her hair, which includes wild spikes on her left side and a ponytail on her right.
  • Foreshadowing: She makes a sarcastic comment to Alya about "why not a bunny Miraculous?". Four episodes later, she discovers her snide comment was actually truthful, there is a Bunny Miraculous and it is hers!
  • Fusion Dance: She has the honor of being the first hero outside of Ladybug and Cat Noir to use unification, utilizing it to unify the Dog and Rabbit Miraculous in order to stop Monarch from snatching the latter.
  • In the Hood: She wears a black hoodie during the events of "Santa Claws".
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Sure, she may not always be agreeable, but she has a strong sense of right and wrong, and when the chips are down, she's someone you want to have by your side.
  • Mundane Utility: She uses unification to unify the Dog and Rabbit Miraculous during "Evolution", not to power up and fight Monarch, but to ensure he can't snatch the latter with his own Fetch.
  • My New Gift Is Lame: Has this reaction when her father presents her with their family's watch. Of course, once she sees what it can do, she changes her mind. It's taken even further with the reveal that the watch is in fact a Miraculous.
  • The Napoleon: It's most obvious when contrasted with some of the larger characters like Ivan, Juleka or Chloé, who she has to look straight up to talk to, but Alix is seriously tiny. However, she's also the most Hot-Blooded and exuberant student in the class, and her size doesn't keep her from being very aggressive when she wants to be. This looks especially ridiculous when her future self towers over Marinette and Adrien.
  • Odd Friendship: "Reverser" shows that she's good friends with shy artist Nathaniel, because they're both into art.
  • Older Than They Look: She turns 15 in "Timebreaker", meaning she's one of the oldest members of her class, though you wouldn't be able to tell that just by looking at her. Considering how much taller her future self is, Alix might just be a late bloomer.
  • Only Sane Man: Compared to the others in Marinette's friend group, Alix is the only one to question their convoluted plans in the name of love and friendship.
  • Pair the Spares: A platonic version, with Nathanael, in "Reverser".
  • Passionate Sports Girl:
    • Rollerblader Alix scoffs at the insinuation that Kim can beat her in a race.
    • In Issue 1 of Miraculous Adventures, it's revealed that Alix is member of a lacrosse team, alongside Adrien, Kim and Ivan.
  • Put on a Bus: After the events of the episode "Evolution", she is unable to return to the present until Monarch is defeated so that he can't get hold of the Rabbit Miraculous.
  • Rollerblade Good: She's a beast when on rollerblades.
  • Second Super-Identity: In "Evolution", she briefly uses the Dog Miraculous, becoming Canigirl to help the heroes retrieve the Rabbit Miraculous from Monarch.
  • Shorttank: While not one of the main protagonists, she has this personality, being tomboyish, rather mouthy, and boisterous.
  • Sole Survivor: Alix is the only temporary hero who manages to avoid having her identity revealed in "Miracle Queen", presumably because the titular villain called upon all the Miraculous holders and Alix technically isn't one yet.
  • Summon to Hand: One of her powers as Canigirl, which she uses to get back the Bunny Miraculous from Monarch.
  • Tank-Top Tomboy: She wears a dark brown tank top on a snake-patterned long-sleeved shirt.
  • Tomboy: She has a spirited personality and enjoys sports.
  • Tomboyish Baseball Cap: She frequently wears a black baseball cap. She ditches it for biker goggles in the future.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Alix wears a sidetail, though it looks more like pigtails from a distance.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After being a side character for most of the series, "Evolution" has her finally join up with Ladybug and Rabbit Noir/Cat Noir, getting to wield a Miraculous to help fight against Monarch and deal a fatal blow to his power by taking the Rabbit Miraculous away, and then get to wield the miraculous permanently before sending off to become the guardian of the timelines.
  • Youngest Child Wins: Her family's precious heirloom watch is traditionally passed on to the youngest child.

Future Alix

  • Comes Great Responsibility: Her Miraculous gives her the power to travel through time and witness all timelines. As a result, she's worked herself to the bone in order to ensure she has enough discipline not to end up misusing her power.
  • The Fettered: More than any other Miraculous holder, Bunnyx has to show restraint in when and how she uses her powers, because of the unpredictable consequences of time travel.
  • The Fog of Ages: In "Timetagger" she has difficulty recalling how her original fight with Timetagger went before she placed herself in an obelisk in order to return to the present day.
  • Future Badass: "Timetagger" reveals that at some point in the future, Alix will wield the Rabbit Miraculous and become the superheroine Bunnyx.
  • Future Foil: As "Timetagger" shows, Future Alix is much calmer and kinder than her present day counterpart.
  • Future Self Reveal: "Timetagger" eventually reveals her to be a future version of Alix, confirming that Alix will eventually become a miraculous wielder like Ladybug and Cat Noir.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Because of how dangerous her powers are, Bunnyx is "the hero of last resort," the one who only steps in when all other heroes have failed, or when Apocalypse How is the only alternative.
  • Goggles Do Nothing: Her future self ditches her cap for a pair of goggles she keeps above her eyes. They disappear when she turns into Bunnyx.
  • Hates Being Nicknamed: Timetagger manages to get the upper hand against her by constantly calling her "Fluffy Tail".
  • I Got Bigger: She's very tall, which especially stands out when compared to her younger self, who is the shortest of Marinette's group of female friends.
  • Ineffectual Loner: When she first appears, she tells Ladybug and Cat Noir to stand back as she faces off against Timetagger alone. All she ends up doing is lollygagging around the timelines as she and Timetagger chase after each other, forcing Ladybug to create a plan to break the stalemate.
  • Irrational Hatred: She holds some contempt for Cat Noir because of an incident in the future where he uses Cataclysm on her Miraculous. Thing is, she's telling this to present Cat Noir, who hasn't been through the event yet, and she refuses to elaborate, making it seem like she's angry at him for something he hasn't even done yet.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": Her older self gushes about Ladybug, unlike her brusque younger self, who doesn't gush about anyone.
  • Older and Wiser: The future Alix is far more subdued and intelligent than her teenage self.
  • Parasol of Pain: Her Miraculous tool takes the form of this.
  • Ret-Gone: In "Cat Blanc", this nearly happens to Bunnyx due to her past self's implied death.
  • Sealed Good in a Can: The future Alix goes back in time and seals herself in an obelisk so that the Rabbit Miraculous can eventually be passed down to her past self.
  • Secret-Keeper: "Cat Blanc" reveals that she knows who Ladybug, Cat Noir, and Hawk Moth are, although it's unclear if she'd known beforehand or learned it while investigating the chain of events that lead to the titular villain's Akumatization. Either way, she doesn't reveal any of it to present Ladybug.
Bunnyx: That's the reason you picked me, Minibug. I know how to keep a secret.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Her goal in "Cat Blanc": prevent the series of events that led to Cat Noir getting akumatized and destroying Paris.
  • The Slow Path: At some point in the future, she goes to the past and preserves herself in an obelisk, leaving the Rabbit Miraculous to come into the Kubdel family's possession. Centuries later, she's freed and has present Alix return the watch to her.
  • Teleport Spam: She incorporates her teleportation power into her fighting style.
  • Thinking Up Portals: Her main power is to create portals to travel through time. Unlike the present-day heroes, she can do this as many times as she wants.
  • Time Master: Not only in her supervillain form, Timebreaker, but also when she becomes Bunnyx. She can use her portals to travel through time. It's why she can keep up with Timetagger despite him sending her to different time periods because she can always quickly come back.
  • Time Police: As her future self is the resident Time Master, it's become her duty to pursue rogue time travelers or circumvent Bad Futures.

A confident, hotheaded jock who can be rude, but does have a softer side. He is good friends with Max.

In the episode "Party Crasher", when five of the Miraculous holders are captured by the titular villain, Master Fu selects Kim to wield the Monkey Miraculous, becoming the hero King Monkey.

  • Ascended Fanboy: In "Syren" he goes on and on about wanting to be a hero. He eventually gets his wish when he becomes "King Monkey", the Monkey Miraculous holder.
  • Asian Airhead: He is Vietnamese, a Dumb Jock and has a goofy side to him.
  • Asian Rudeness: Downplayed. Kim is Vietnamese and is the only other person in the class besides Marinette who's confirmed to be of Asian descent. He's also a somewhat petty, overconfident jock who is prone to rudeness or taunting others and has a crush on the local Alpha Bitch. However, he's a Jerk with a Heart of Gold.
  • Brains and Brawn: He's a jock who is best friends with Max, a nerdy kid. Indeed, one of the first indications he's not just a plain Jerk Jock as his initial characterization would imply was clearly being friends with Max when a more stereotypical Jerk Jock would probably bully him.
  • Characterization Marches On: He was much more of a Jerk Jock in Season 1. In later seasons, he's a Lovable Jock with shades of Dumb Jock.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: In "Party Crasher", he literally jumps to help Master Fu when he falls down; when the man thanks him, Kim admits that jumping into action to help others is almost instinctive on him and thinks it should be the same for anyone else. Because of this, Fu decides to make him the Monkey Miraculous holder.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Kim shows an astonishing lack of common sense at times. To wit, his reaction to Paris suddenly being flooded is to jump in the water and offer to teach Markov to swim and after being kidnapped by Syren, he's more concerned about missing the movie he wanted to see. This makes him a perfect fit for the goofy and unorthodox Monkey Miraculous.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: He had Marinette and Ondine develop feelings for him at some point, something that he was not able to figure out on his own both times till it was straight up spitted out to him.
  • Competition Freak: According to the character blurb, he considers himself the king of competitions. Shown when he tries to beat Alix (on rollerblades) in a race while on foot. His competitive spirit isn't limited to sports, he also takes part in the school's fashion contest and the video game tournament. He even wants to challenge the zoo's new panther. However, he avoids being truly insufferable over the results - it seems he's just unrealistically confident in his abilities and never wants to stop trying to live up to this confidence.
  • Confusion Fu: His fighting style as a Miraculous holder. His actions are so impossible to predict that a supervillain specifically made for predictive analysis had a mental shutdown trying to anticipate what Kim would do.
  • Distressed Dude: Takes on this role in "Animan" after the zookeeper whose panther he taunted falls victim to an Akuma and comes after him. It happens again in "Syren", but since the title villain is in love for him, he wasn't that distressed.
  • Dumb Jock: Very little common sense. He's at his worst in "Derision" where he's senseless enough to be fooled by Chloé into thinking that if a girl has feelings for you and wants to out swimming with you but doesn't actually want to swim means she wants to laugh, and you should play a prank on her.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Kim can be incredibly oblivious to just about everything else when he's in competition mode. In "Party Crasher" he's too busy trying to practice swimming in Adrien's bathtub to notice the titular villain storm in and attack the party and capture the guests, then taking the fight outside nor does he notice Master Fu sneaking in and leaving a Miraculous box with him until it practically floats right in front of his face. In "Optigami" he spends most of the episode running up the building's stairwell trying to beat the elevator and fails to notice Style Queen attacking the building and the guests, including a large crowd, and Max running down an opposite stairwell trying to get away until finally he arrives at the top and the villain is waiting for him. To add insult to injury Kim also fails to notice he'd long missed the ceremony and thinks he beat his friends in the elevator even though they'd long since arrived half the episode ago.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Has a crush on Chloé. One guess how it turns out for him.
  • In the Hood: He wears a red hoodie.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Can be interpreted as this. Sometimes, he does and says things that often get him into trouble with others. And this kind of trouble not only endangers his life but the lives of everyone around him. "Derision" has him legitimately failing to understand that his prank upon Marinette when she was trying to have a date with him was cruel, that her previous outburst is indicative of trauma and probably a sign of the prank being not very funny, and thinking it's perfectly fine to say that he considers Chloé as the prettiest and funniest girl in the world in front of his actual girlfriend Ondine.
  • Jerk Jock: Dips into this trope sometimes, mocking Alix when the pair are planning to race, taunting a protective zookeeper about his panther and bullying Ivan about his crush on Mylène in "Ladybug & Cat Noir (Origins - Part 1)".
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While hot-headed and rude sometimes, Kim is generally kind. He appreciates Marinette's encouragement to confess his love to his crush in "Dark Cupid" and is a good friend to Ondine in "Syren". He also doesn't hesitate to put Chloé on the zip line ahead of him in "Zombizou" resulting in him being infected.
  • Lovable Jock: On his good days. He's had his moments of being a Jerk Jock (especially in the first season) but he's otherwise alright and his competitive nature is used more as a humorously-harmless quirk.
  • Monkey King Lite: As King Monkey, naturally, he takes a lot of inspiration from Sun Wukong. Word of God states Sun Wukong himself was "most certainly" a holder of the Monkey Miraculous.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Kim enjoys wearing his swimsuit a lot and even fought in his underpants in "Revolution," dubbing himself "Super Underpants."
  • Oblivious to Love: In the episode "Syren", he's completely unaware of Ondine's feelings for him. He only starts suspecting she might like him after she turns into a mermaid and drags him to her underwater kingdom to be her husband. Actually, that does make Kim much less oblivious than our protagonist duo, since he was able to notice Ondine's feelings at last and reciprocate them.
  • Odd Friendship: He's close friends with Max, who is pretty much his polar opposite, being a nerdy boy interested in robotics while Kim is a Dumb Jock.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: When using the Monkey Miraculous, his hair changes from blonde to red.
  • Power Incontinence: His special power as King Monkey is to cause a target's powers to malfunction for a short period of time. It's what allows him to defeat Party Crasher, whereas a team of five other Miraculous holders struggled to defeat him.
  • Primal Stance: He briefly assumes one while transforming into King Monkey.
  • Random Effect Spell: Played with. Uproar creates a random toy each time, but all of them share the same effect: hit the enemy with it and their powers malfunction.
  • Relationship Upgrade: By "Miracle Queen", Kim sure doesn't look oblivious to Ondine's hints anymore and reciprocates her feelings.
  • The Runt at the End: Kim is the only one of the temporary users to be selected by Master Fu himself instead of Marinette. It also applies to his powers as King Monkey, which are trickier than the other Miraculouses.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: He's the competitive jock to Nathaniel's quiet artist.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Subtle but present. "Stoneheart" showed he was a bully towards Ivan and he was part of Chloé's posse as seen in "Lady Wifi". However, by season 2, not only has he started being nicer, he also has stopped being part of Chloé's circle.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom:
    • By mocking Ivan for his unwillingness to admit his crush on Mylène, he caused Ivan to become the first Akuma that Ladybug and Cat Noir ever faced.
    • Even worse in "Catalyst" and "Mayura" since his powers as Dark Cupid were arguably the most important linchpin in Hawk Moth's plan.
    • The episode "Derision" reveals that Marinette use to have a crush on Kim, but because Kim pranked her with a box of spiders when she confessed to him Marinette was traumatized and developed her Cannot Spit It Out problem, which is responsible for so, so many problems on the show.
  • What Does He See in Her?: Given how he has seen Chloé's countless cruel and petty actions, with him occasionally being a victim of said actions, it's puzzling to understand why Kim had a crush on her. Marinette even lampshades this in the Valentine's Day episode.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: He's a burly jock but is hilariously terrified of spiders, a fact Chloé uses against him so he doesn't run against her as class representative.

Introduced in Season 4

    Zoé Lee/Vesperia/Kitty Noire

Vesperia (Zoé Lee)

Chloé's younger half-sister from Audrey's side. An artistic young lady and an aspiring actress from New York who came to Paris in order to live with her maternal family.

In "Queen Banana", she puts herself in harm's way to talk her sister down when the latter becomes the titular villain. Impressed by her courage, she is given the Bee Miraculous by Ladybug, allowing her to transform into the new Bee heroine, Vesperia.

In "Transmission", Plagg chooses her as the next permanent holder of the Cat Miraculous so Adrien can live freely his love story with Marinette, but her identity as Kitty Noire ends up getting exposed to Monarch through her Alliance Ring, which leads to her defeat in "Deflagration" and subsequently returning the mantle to Cat Noir.

  • All-Loving Hero: Even after Chloé tells her she hates her and for what she did in "Queen Banana", Zoé forgives her and says that she still loves her and she always will, even if no one else will.
  • Animal Motif: Bees like her sister, but with positive aspects like humility and willing to sacrifice herself for those she loves.
  • Bad Powers, Good People:
    • Vesperia's special power Venom allows her to paralyze an individual with her spinning top. But unlike her half-sister, she's truly on the side of good.
    • Also the case as Kitty Noire, where she wields the power of destruction.
  • Battle Tops: As Vesperia, she fights with a trompo.
  • Beneath the Mask: Zoé often seems shy and too eager to please, and is easily bullied by Chloé. When she's hidden under the mask, she shows a much bolder side, proudly showing off her costume and name and taunting the akumatized Chloé with the knowledge that she's been replaced.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Inverted. According to the website, Zoé is actually the younger sibling, but she is still protective of Chloé, telling her that she will still love her even if the whole world hates her. In "Optigami" she tries to protect Chloé from Style Queen, only for Chloé to use her as a shield.
  • Birds of a Feather:
    • In stark contrast to André and Chloé's relationship, Zoé actually has much in common with her stepfather and they bond over their necessity to take the backseat for the family and have to give up a dream to please them. Zoé's presence has a positive influence on André, where he tries to assert himself a little more to Chloé and Audrey's demands.
    • In a deleted scene from "Collusion", where André finally mans up, resigns as Mayor, and declares that he's done being Audrey and Chloé's slave (even divorcing the former), he takes custody of Zoé. Aside from wanting to get his stepdaughter away from such horrible influences, it's very likely he did so out of gratitude for being such a positive influence on him and helping him reignite his true passion.
  • Cat Girl: As Kitty Noire.
  • Crash-Into Hello: How she first meets Marinette, though the Meet Cute aspect is one-sided on Zoé's part.
  • Cunning Linguist: Considering she was born and raised until recently in New York, it's safe to assume she can speak fluently English aside from French, with maybe the possibility of English being even her actual native language and only learned later French, which in any case she's shown to be able to speak fluently.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Zoé had to change her personality to fit in at school in New York, but when she slipped up, everyone turned against her and started bullying her, namely putting cockroaches in her locker.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: While her superhero attire is black with yellow highlights and thus more closely resembles Queen Wasp's outfit than Queen Bee's, she's a kind person and firmly on the side of good.
  • Disappeared Dad: She's Audrey's daughter from a previous affair, but it's unclear who Zoé's father is. The only things known about him is the surname "Lee". Audrey implies he might be rich and works a busy schedule, but given that it's Audrey it might not be accurate.
  • Everyone Has Standards: For the most part she's very patient with her sister's antics, but even she's tired of Chloé's constant Wag the Directorinvoked and script changes in "Queen Banana" and agrees with everyone to film their original movie without her.
  • Facepalm: Zoé is seen facepalming after yet another demand from Chloé to change the script, this time to include an "interesting villain".
  • Family Theme Naming: Her name rhymes with that of her sister's (—oé).
  • Foil: To her half-sister Chloé. The former is a spoiled-rotten Alpha Bitch who uses her father to get whatever she wants and barely has any friends because of her toxic personality. Zoé is humble but sweet and creative. She comes from a Friendless Background because she couldn't be what others wanted, is quick to befriend the main cast, and has a very healthy and encouraging relationship with her stepfather, André. "Adoration" takes Zoe's status as a foil to Chloé to its extreme end. Chloé despises Marinette more than anyone, but Zoé is in love with Marinette.
  • Foreshadowing: When Scarabella tells a reporter that she and Kitty Noire aren't in any kind of relationship, Kitty Noire half-jokingly challenges the idea. A few episodes later it's revealed that not only is Zoé a lesbian, but she specifically has a crush on Marinette.
  • The Glorious War of Sisterly Rivalry: She has a one-sided version of this with Chloé. Chloé is the pretty, prissy, popular one, while Zoé is more down-to-earth and artistic. Zoé wants to get along with sister, but Chloé refuses to accept her unless she obeys her and goes along with whatever she wants.
  • Grew a Spine: As of "Queen Banana" she slowly starts to stand up against Chloé's bullying more often.
  • Guile Heroine: She displays plenty of intelligence in dealing with Chloé, whether by rubbing in how she has replaced her as the bee heroine to enrage her or presenting Ladybug's Magical Charm as a gift from their mother to dupe her into wearing it.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She has blonde hair and is a sweet girl who struggles to worm her way out of her abusive mother's and sister's thumbs.
  • Heroic Bastard: She's Audrey Bourgeois's illegitimate daughter from a previous relationship and a kind-hearted, heroic person.
  • Hopeless Suitor: She has a crush on Marinette, but she doesn't dare to confess her feelings to her because she knows it won't be reciprocated due to Marinette being in a relationship and in love with Adrien. However, she does eventually muster up enough courage to confess to her in "Adoration".
  • Incompatible Orientation: She has a crush on Marinette even though Marinette is straight.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: She encourages Marinette to confess her feelings for Adrien to him, despite her own feelings for her.
  • Jerkass Façade: In her debut episode, she pretends to be an awful person so she can get more easily accepted by her mother and half-sister, but it's clear that she's uncomfortable about doing so.
  • Legacy Character: Subverted. While she takes Chloé's place as the Bee Miraculous holder, she takes the name Vesperia instead of Queen Bee. When she first meets Cat Noir, he mistakes her for Queen Bee, but she corrects him and introduces herself properly.
  • Long-Lost Relative: She's Chloé's estranged half-sister from an affair that Audrey had.
  • Master Actor: While initially using her acting skills for her Jerkass Façade, she ends up using them for the greater good.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Zoé is a name of Greek origin that means "life".
    • Vesperia is derived from "vespa", Italian for "wasp".
  • New Transfer Student: In "Sole Crusher", she transfers into Collège Françoise Dupont in the middle of the school year by pulling some strings (namely, by threatening to call the Mayor). Mr. Damocles introduces her to her new classmates during Ms. Mendeleiev's science class.
  • Nice Girl: She immediately befriends Marinette and is warmly welcomed by their classmates, but in an attempt to get along with her mother and sister, she put on a Jerkass Façade that she later drops entirely.
  • Nice to the Waiter: She's on good terms with the hotel staff, and is the only member of her family who has referred to the butler, Armand, by his real name instead of something random starting with "Jean".
  • Only Friend: She had only one true friend in New York, who signed her shoes before Zoé left for Paris.
  • The Paralyzer: Her power as Vesperia.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair:
    • Downplayed as Vesperia. Transforming replaces the pink streak in her hair with multiple black streaks.
    • As Kitty Noire, the pink streak disappears and the dips of her hair become dyed green.
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: When transformed into Vesperia, her shoulder length hair becomes longer, twisting into a longer braid down her back.
  • Queer Establishing Moment: In "Adoration", Zoé is revealed to be a lesbian when she confesses her romantic feelings for Marinette.
  • Redeeming Replacement: Unlike her sister, Zoé is a Nice Girl fully committed to the side of good and using the Bee Miraculous for heroic purposes, versus Chloé being a mean girl who used the Bee Miraculous purely for attention and let her emotions get the best of her. Ladybug and Cat Noir lampshade this when she makes her debut as a hero.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Chloé's family was already familiar with Zoé before her debut, but there were no hints beforehand that the latter existed. It's directly acknowledged when Marinette's classmates express shock at the revelation that Chloé has a half-sister.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Subverted for Zoé, played straight for Chloé. Zoé just wanted to please her sister until she realized she couldn't keep up that facade anymore, and tries to make peace with Chloé. Chloé on the other hand does everything possible to make Zoé miserable, and is constantly plotting to send her back to New York City.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Zoé is very different from Chloé. She knows this, which is why she tries to act like Chloé in order to be accepted by her.
  • Sixth Ranger: A twofold example. Zoé joins Marinette's circle of friends at the end "Sole Crusher" while she's recruited to be the new Bee Miraculous hero in "Queen Banana".
  • Second Super-Identity: In the "Kwamis' Choice" two-parter, she takes up the Black Cat Miraculous to become Kitty Noire.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: As Chloé notes, Zoé has inherited their mother's blonde hair and blue eyes.
  • Taking the Heat: After Marinette gets framed for theft by Vanisher, Chloé and Lila in "Adoration", Zoé takes the blame for it instead in order to prevent Marinette from being expelled from school.
  • Trauma Button: Zoé is able to emulate Chloé's bitchiness until the latter mentions putting cockroaches in Marinette's locker in order to humiliate her. As Zoé admits to the gang on the Liberty, her former classmates played that very same mean prank on her back in New York.
  • White Sheep: Much kinder than her mother and half-sister. Since she's not related by blood to her stepfather (who, himself, is not always treated sympathetically), she's definitely the best of her relatives that we know of.
  • Wicked Wasps: Averted. While her hero identity is themed around wasps, she's entirely heroic.

    Mylène Haprèle/Polymouse

A kind girl who is easily scared, but has a big heart and wants to make the city a better place. She is in a relationship with Ivan.

In "Mega Leech", when Ladybug needs help fighting Malediktator, she calls on Mylène to become the new Mouse Miraculous hero, known as Polymouse.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Ivan calls her his "little mouse".
  • Ascended Extra: The later seasons expanded on her screentime and speaking roles in contrast to Season 1, where she was a background character.
  • Ascended Fangirl: Like most of her classmates, she idolizes Ladybug, and later goes on to wield the Mouse Miraculous as Polymouse.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: She's a chubby young girl who is also quite adorable and friendly. Ivan likes her enough that they're now in a relationship.
  • Cowardly Lion: While she suffers from a lot of anxiety, in "Mega Leech", she doesn't hesitate to try and lead Marinette to safety, which is what convinces Marinette to give her the Miraculous of the Mouse.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Downplayed. She's a blonde with golden-brown eyes.
  • Daddy's Girl: She's very close with her father, Fred, and is very proud of his acting.
  • Dub Name Change: Her name is changed to "Milena" in the Serbian dub.
  • Face Your Fears: Her arc in her episode is about becoming less of a coward and learning to stand up for herself.
  • Granola Girl: She is very passionate about the environment, which ends up coming into play in the final arc of season 5, where she's one of the few not to fall under the spell of Alliance because she refused to buy an Alliance ring (because it was made of unsustainable materials.)
  • Irony: "Mega Leech" reveals that she's scared of mice, yet she later goes on to wield the Mouse Miraculous.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Downplayed on the Hair part. She's a natural blond with some of her braids being colored pink, blue and green. She's still a sweetheart.
  • Hidden Depths: In her own webisode, Mylène reveals she has an interest in politics and wants to make Paris a better place for the people.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Mylène is practically half of Ivan's height. She's also this with her dad, who's tall and lanky.
  • Lovable Coward: Deconstructed. In her spotlight episode, Mylène has shown to be scared by anything she perceives as scary. And while her plight is sympathetic, Chloé makes a valid point that Mylène getting scared too easily is only hampering their class from finishing their project, putting all their grades at risk.
  • Missing Mom: In "Derision", she says that her mom left her family when she was little.
  • Nice Girl: She has a cordial personality.
  • Official Couple: With Ivan as of "Stoneheart".
  • Only Sane Man: In "Gigantitan", she asks why Marinette needs an unnecessarily complicated plan to win over Adrien when she could just ask him out. The rest of the girls just laugh. Shockingly, the plan fails.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: Her natural blonde hair turns pink when she wields the Mouse Miraculous.
  • Relationship Upgrade: At the end of "Stoneheart", her and Ivan.
  • Self-Duplication: As Polymouse, she has the power of multiplication, fighting the micro-Malediktator while Ladybug and co. focus on Mega Leech.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Mylène has romantic affections for the sweet and sensitive Ivan.
  • Soapbox Sadie: She is very passionate about getting others to protect the environment. It's her willingness and determination that gets her chosen to become chosen as a Miraculous holder.

    Rose Lavillant/Pigella

A very friendly, innocent, and cheerful girl with a heart of gold and endless optimism. She is Juleka's best friend.

In the episode "Guiltrip", she temporarily becomes the holder of the Pig Miraculous, becoming the hero Pigella after Ladybug judges her to be essential in stopping Reflekta and her sentimonster, Guiltrip.

  • All-Loving Hero: Rose has an optimistic, happy attitude and cares for everyone around her, offering any help to them when she can.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Starting in Season 2, the show has piled on extremely blatant subtext that she and Juleka are a couple with a combination of direct and indirect interactions in the same air as the established couples Nino and Alya or Ivan and Mylène. Unlike Juleka, however, it's definitely confirmed that she likes guys too (just ask Prince Ali). In Collusion, she gets so annoyed with Adrien and Marinette refusing to kiss that she unabashedly threatens to kiss both of the herself if they don't. This tweet from Astruc in response to a fan asking if the two would be a couple if the show didn't have to deal with copyright removes the ambiguity. In English, it roughly translates to "If you see them like that, it's pretty obvious, no?" with a winky smiling emoji afterwards to boot.
  • Ascended Fangirl: Like many of her classmates, she's a huge fan of Ladybug and Cat Noir. In season 4, she joins forces with them to become Pigella.
  • Attack Reflector: Pigella's Tambourine can reflect projectiles by swinging at them.
  • Badass Bystander: If her quote to Monarchbug: "Let go of her or we'll turn you into singing shoes!" while using his own akumatized villain as a battle ram together with Juleka against him is any clue.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: While she tends to be such a sweet and innocent person, she can become quite intimidating and scary once she's angered. Marinette has often found out on a few occasions with her reluctance to confess to Adrien how she feels.
  • Boyish Short Hair: Inverted. Rose has the shortest hair of her female peers but is the most girly of them all.
  • Celeb Crush: She has a huge one on Prince Ali, and it's the reason she's akumatized.
  • Cheery Pink: Pink is her main color and she's a bright and optimistic girl.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Believes that Aqua Ponies and Unicorns are real.
    • The Cuckoolander Was Right: She also believes dragons are real, which if Su-Han’s fretting about Plagg being loose was accurate, was once the case.
  • Cute, but Cacophonic: Her high-pitched voice can become very shrill when she is excited, especially as Princess Fragrance.
  • Dub Name Change: In the Latin American dub, Rose's name is Rosita.
  • Flat Character: Has the least amount of character out of the superheroes and doesn't have much personality other than being bubbly and sweet.
  • Floral Theme Naming: "Rose" is a flower name and her kwami's name, Daizzi, is also similar to a flower name, "daisy".
  • Genki Girl: She's endlessly cheerful and optimistic. It's this positivity that inspires Ladybug to gift her the Miraculous of Jubilation. Even her Transformation Sequence when changing into Pigella is the most energetic one shown so far.
  • Girlish Pigtails: As Pigella, Rose trades out her pixie cut hairstyle for mini twin tails that resemble pig ears.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: See that cheery and pink-wearing girl on the page image? She's the lead singer of a rock band.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Rose is the sweet, cute and girly flavor of blonde.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: Pigella's Miraculous ability is Gift, summoning a gift box that conjures an image of what the target wants the most as a way to cheer them up from their depression. On the surface, it seems like a useless power compared to creating anything, absolute destruction, time manipulation, illusion casting, etc. But in a world where stewing in negative emotions can result in becoming a super villain or the creation of a rampaging monster, encouraging positivity and reminding people about what they love is perfect to combat Hawk Moth and his akumatized minions. When used on Reflekta in "Guiltrip", Reflekta allows herself to be purified without a fight.
  • High-Class Gloves: She wears a pair of long white gloves as Pigella.
  • Humble Hero: At least, in comparison to other temporary Miraculous holders. After completing her job as Pigella in "Guiltrip", Rose sneaks off to detransform so she can comfort Juleka, then covertly slips the Miraculous back to Ladybug under the guise of thanking her for saving Juleka, all without any prompting. This is a stark contrast to other Miraculous holders, who Ladybug will usually take aside to recover the Miraculous formally (and in some cases, like with Chloé or even Alya, she had to convince them to do so).
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: While not the only blue-eyed character, her eyes are especially large and baby-blue. She's shown to be an innocent romantic.
  • Lady Ella: Her superhero identity is Pigella, a cutesy pig-themed ballet dancer.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: She is the light to Juleka's dark. Rose is sweet and bubbly. Even her outfit has cute angel wings! Note how it is inverted in their respective akumatized forms: Juleka gets a bright and colorful Rose-ish look whereas Rose gets an elegant dark/gothic (and more "Julekan") look. Looks like each of them secretly wants to be the other one, hence their friendship.
  • Light Is Good: Wears bright clothing like Chloé but unlike her schoolmate, Rose is a total sweetheart.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name "Rose" reflects both her signature color (as it's French for "pink") and romantic personality. Furthermore, reverse her name order and "Lavillant Rose" sounds like "la vie en rose", a French idiom roughly equivalent to "rose-colored glasses", befitting her irrepressible optimism.
  • Nice Girl: Seems to be the sweetest, kindest and most naive student in the class.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Rose's unflinching idealism has backfired on her at times.
    • In "Timebreaker", she tries to help Timebreaker after she falls and fakes being injured. Rose gets her energy stolen and is erased from existence for her efforts. Fortunately, Ladybug is around to save the day and bring her back.
    • In "Zombizou", she leaves the safety of the bus to save Chloé from the mob of love zombies, only to be infected herself.
  • Only Sane Man: In "Gigantitan", if her facial expression is any indication, she is the only one in Operation: Secret Garden that sees there is something wrong with having someone else codenamed "Rose" even if she can't quite put her finger on the problem.
  • Pink Heroine: Her superhero uniform is prominently pink, to match her civilian self's favorite color.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Due to the show's Limited Wardrobe animation, Rose is always seen wearing an all-pink outfit, and her ballerina outfit as Pigella, the Pig Miraculous itself, and her kwami Daizzi are all pink. She also wants to change the classroom's wooden chairs for cute pink sofas. Appropriately, "rose" in French also means "pink" in addition to the flower.
  • The Pollyanna: No matter what happens to her, she hardly ever drops her eternally sunny disposition. It's this eternal optimism that earns her the Pig Miraculous, when she's able to shake off Guiltrip's depression bubbles through sheer positivity.
    • In “Migration”, her inner song says that she even loves the people she hates.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: Subtly; as Pigella, her hair is a brighter shade of blonde than normal.
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: Downplayed; She rocks a pixie cut in her civilian outfit, but the Pig Miraculous gives her prominent bangs as well as Girlish Pigtails.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The bubbly, excited red to Juleka's shy, fragile blue.
  • Running on the Spot: She does this briefly at the beginning of her transformation.
  • Shipper on Deck: A few season two episodes show her supporting Marinette's crush on Adrien.
  • Ship Tease: With Juleka, as there are a lot of moments in the show alluding to them being a couple, such as their off-screen kiss from "Zombizou" and both of them being presented in similar instances with other canon couples and protecting each other from akumatized villains in various episodes.
  • Singing Voice Dissonance: Uses her best death metal growl as the vocalist for Kitty Section. Of course, her best is still higher-pitched than the normal speaking voices of some of the other girls, but it's still a far cry from her own speaking voice.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Why does Rose have such a huge crush on Prince Ali? Because he has a heart of gold.
  • Smitten Teenage Girl: She is the most idealistic student in the class, so it's easy to see why she would get so swept away with the idea of Prince Ali.
  • Taking the Bullet: Most of the time, she takes Akuma curses directed towards Juleka in to protect her, but she also took one directed towards Luka in "Migration", which prevented him from spilling Ladybug and Cat Noir's secret identities to Gold Record and by extension, Monarch.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Rose, you're extremely naïve, but you ask Chloé, of all people, to deliver a letter to Prince Ali? Sure she was close to the prince, but you should know that Chloé is extremely mean-spirited. As a result, the letter gets ripped in front of her face, which leads to her Akumatization.
  • Took a Level in Badass: In "Deflagration", she weaponizes together with Juleka a tied up akumatized Chloé against Monarchbug himself, essentially forcing him to deakumatize her (and creating enough of a distraction for Adrien to be able to steal back the Ladybug earrings from him).
  • Tutu Fancy: Her hero outfit incorporates a frilly pink tutu into the design.
  • Visual Pun:
    • The Pig Miraculous is an anklet with five pearls on it, a nod towards the phrase "pearls before swine".
    • As Pigella, she wears her hair in a pair of pigtails.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Practically textbook and the other half of the equation that gets her akumatized since she apparently thinks she can trust Chloé to deliver her love letter to Prince Ali. She's crushed when Chloé tears the letter up in front of her.
  • Your Heart's Desire: Non-villainous example. Pigella's Miraculous ability, Gift, allows her to know exactly what the target's most heartfelt desire is, gifting them with joy and hope by reminding them of said desire.

    Juleka Couffaine/Purple Tigress

Purple Tigress (Juleka Couffaine)

A shy girl who has trouble expressing herself and standing out from the crowd. She is Luka's younger twin sister and Rose's best friend.

When her parents fighting causes them to be reakumatized in "Crocoduel", Juleka is chosen to wield the Tiger Miraculous as the heroine Purple Tigress.

  • Admiring the Abomination: While the rest of her classmates are running away in fear, Juleka has only this to say about Horrificator: "Awesome." It's the first indication that Horrificator shrinks in the face of fearlessness.
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Subverted. She's the tallest of the girls in the class, has a quiet, introverted demeanor, and has very long dark hair and pale skin. However, she's quite a shy and awkward (albeit kind) person.
  • Ambiguously Gay:
    • Starting in Season 2, the show has piled on extremely blatant subtext that she and Rose are a couple with numerous background moments between the two both avertly and more subtly (such as pairing them in the same situations where Nino and Alya or Ivan and Mylène are doing couples things together).
    • No longer ambiguous as of this tweet from Thomas Astruc himself posted in response to a fan asking if the two would be a couple if the show didn't have to worry about censorship. It translates roughly to: "If you see them like that, it's pretty obvious, no?" with a winky smiling emoji afterwards to boot.
  • Badass Bystander: If using a tied up akumatized villain as a battle ram together with Rose against Monarchbug himself is any clue.
  • Band of Relatives: She is the bassist for Kitty Section while her brother Luka plays guitar in the band. In the group's first appearance, both Couffaine siblings played guitar.
  • Battle Bolas: Juleka's Miraculous form, Purple Tigress, uses a bolas.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Inverted. Despite being the younger sibling, Juleka is shown to be quite protective of her older brother, Luka. In "Migration", she takes Gold Record's blast to protect Luka from him.
  • Break the Cutie:
    • In "Reflekta", after Chloé and Sabrina pulled a nasty trick on her during Picture Day, she becomes so distraught that not only she refuses Rose's support, but she also runs to the park to cry alone after declaring herself invisible.
    • In "Reflekdoll", she becomes overwhelmed by anxiety over the prospect of taking part in a photo shoot that she ends getting replaced from said photo shoot by Marinette, which makes her shoo away everyone else (even Rose who was trying to check up on her) in order to be left alone to cry at her inability to overcome her fear.
    • In "Guiltrip", Juleka becomes overwhelmed after learning that Rose had to be taken to a hospital due to her illness and ends up running out of the cafeteria and hide in the boiler room while in tears after Marinette (unknowingly of the situation) made a joke about the nicknames Rose uses. And despite her classmates initially managing to cheer her up after finding out the cause of her distress, as they fail to treat Rose like a normal person after finding out of her sickness and ticking Rose on what's happening and making her uncomfortable with their new treatment of her, Juleka ends up feeling extremely guilty for causing this situation by divulging Rose's secret to the entire class and runs away to the bathroom where she locks herself to cry, not even Rose's pleas managing to get her to open up the door.
    • In "Confrontation", Juleka becomes incredibly distraught after Lila and Chloé tamper with the school forms, which leaves her prone to repeating the school year. Even Rose's efforts to calm her down are futile.
  • Color Character: Purple Tigress.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Juleka is quiet, prefers to dress in black clothing and is a Nice Girl.
  • Emo Teen: She's shy, insecure and prone to tearful sulking when she's upset.
  • Family Theme Naming: Like her mother and brother, her name ends in "-ka".
  • Flanderization: Believe it or not this is actually an Inverted example. In the original French version, Juleka's dialogues are sometimes purposely made impossible to understand, while the English dub makes what she says clearly understandable. According to Thomas Astruc, this modification ruins the character, but the English dub in Season 4 has most of her dialogue become unintelligible grunts that only her friends can understand but the audience can barely comprehend.
  • Freak Out: Poor Juleka ends up having a panic attack in "Reflekdoll", due to how nervous she is to for the public photo-shoot.
  • Goth: Her fashion style.
  • Having a Blast: As Purple Tigress, she's able to generate huge explosions with her punch.
  • Heroic Bastard: She's the illegitimate daughter of Jagged Stone.
  • Hidden Depths: "Reflekdoll" reveals that despite her shy nature, Juleka wants to become a model someday.
  • Huge Schoolgirl: Tallest female student at Collège Françoise Dupont, and taller than most male ones. The retcon about her age retroactively explains her height: she's older than all of her classmates.
  • Insecure Love Interest: "Reflekdoll" hints that she feels insecure in her relationship with Rose; when akumatized into Reflekta, she spends a significant amount of time furiously chasing after Rose and trying to turn her into a duplicate so that Rose will never leave her.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: Dark feminine to her friend Rose's light. While Juleka is not particularly "devilish", she's still the introverted and aloof of the duo, and favors darker, gothic clothing. Note how it is inverted in their respective akumatized forms: Juleka gets a bright and colorful Rose-ish look whereas Rose gets an elegant dark/gothic (and more "Julekan") look. Looks like each of them secretly wants to be the other one, hence their friendship.
  • Like Mother, Unlike Daughter: Her mother, Anarka, is a headstrong and outgoing woman, the polar opposite of Juleka's shy and soft-spoken personality.
  • Long Hair Is Feminine: She has long hair that reaches to her waist.
  • Megaton Punch: The Tiger Miraculous gives the wielder the power of "Elation": They can turn their emotions into strength for a single blow, the special attack "Clout". In this case, Purple Tigress channels all of her fury at her parents' bickering into a punch that knocks Captain Hardrock's galleon clean into the sky, taking Guitar Villain and Fang with it.
  • Nerves of Steel: At least when it comes to fear. Juleka is very shy, but she doesn't get scared easy, which helps Ladybug save everyone from Horrificator and keeps her from getting akumatized when Hawk Moth tries to terrify the city in "Catalyst".
  • Nice Girl: A soft-spoken, timid girl who likes to be friends with everyone.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: She is actually amazed by Mylène being turned into Horrificator, simply saying "Awesome." when seeing her. She also said that Ivan's transformation into Stoneheart was "so cool".
  • Panthera Awesome: Juleka is given the Tiger Miraculous in "Crocoduel", becoming "Purple Tigress".
  • Perky Goth: Downplayed; her fashion style is Goth and her personality is a blend of shy and awkward with a kind side.
  • Punny Name: Her last name sounds like "coffin". Appearance-wise, she's a goth. This might be an accidental pun for English viewers as her name stays unchanged from the French version where the pun is more obvious, refering to "acouphène" (French word for "tinnitus"). The French pun less straightforwardly evokes the character, though it keeps being accurate due to the fact Juleka is part of a band and tends to mumble, so that her voice sometimes sounds like a sort of tinnitus. Probably explains why the other members of her family's first names also end in "a" to keep the pun.
  • The Quiet One: Shares this role with Nathaniel. Juleka is exceedingly shy and has trouble voicing out her concerns. As Purple Tigress, she speaks more normally and Reflekta is outright chatty by comparison.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The timid, diffident blue to Rose's outgoing, hyperactive red.
  • Retcon: She was originally stated to be two years younger than Luka, but as of season 4, they are now twins, with Juleka still attending Collège Françoise Dupont because she failed and had to repeat a year.
  • The Rock Star: She's one of the two guitarists of the band "Kitty Section" and practices guitar during Art Class.
  • Second Love: Arguably to Rose, as she used to have a huge crush on Prince Ali back in season 1, while as of season 2 she and Juleka are heavily implied by the show (and outright confirmed by the Word of God) to be dating.
  • Shipper on Deck: She not only helped Marinette with her plans to confess to Adrien, but also supported her brief relationship with her twin brother.
  • Ship Tease: With Rose, as there are a lot of moments in the show alluding to them being a couple, such as their off-screen kiss from "Zombizou" and both of them being presented in similar instances with other canon couples and protecting each other from akumatized villains in various episodes.
  • Shrinking Violet: Is stated to be shy and seems to have trouble telling Marinette her complaints while the latter is running for class representative.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Shy and reserved, as opposed to her more sociable and easy going brother Luka.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Despite normally being so quiet, she can be pushed into loud outbursts, usually when someone repeatedly complains that they cannot hear her. Such an outburst managed to impress Roaar when they first meet.
  • Taking the Bullet: Multiple times did she took Akuma curses onto herself that were meant for her loved ones, such as for Rose in "Truth" and her twin brother Luka in "Migration".
  • Took a Level in Badass: In "Deflagration", she weaponizes together with Rose a tied-up akumatized Chloé against Monarchbug himself, essentially forcing him to deakumatize her (and creating enough of a distraction for Adrien to be able to steal back the Ladybug earrings from him).
  • The Un-Favourite: "Crocoduel" reveals she fears she's this to her dad, Jagged Stone, since he seems to get along with her brother much better. "Representation" further shows that disappointing Jagged is her biggest fear deep down.
  • The Unintelligible: Starting in Season 4, the English dub brings back an aspect of her character from the original French version: that Juleka's normal style of speech is to mutter so quietly that the audience can scarcely hear her.

    Sabrina Raincomprix/Miss Hound

Miss Hound (Sabrina Raincomprix)

Akumatized forms: Vanisher, Miraculer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1000003052.png
"We've been doing this ever since grade school, when I started doing Chloé's homework, and we've been BFFs ever since!"

Voiced by: Marie Nonnenmacher (FR), Marieve Herington (EN, Season 1), Cassandra Lee Morris (credited as Meghan McCracken, EN, Seasons 2-3), Lauren Landa (EN, Season 4) Foreign VAs

A soft-spoken classmate of Adrien and Marinette, and Chloé's former "best friend". Sometimes she's Chloé's aider and abetter in wicked schemes, other times she's the first and worst victim of Chloé's meanness.

When Chloé is akumatized yet again in "Penalteam", Sabrina is one of the four heroes drafted by Ladybug to combat her and becomes the wielder of the Dog Miraculous, Miss Hound.

  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: A possible same-sex version where "Sole Crusher" sees her clinging to Zoé's arm (even closing her eyes happily) and asking if Sabrina can do her homework right after Chloé impelled Zoé to insult Marinette. It might have just been Sabrina assuming that's what Chloé would want her to do, but considering her relationship with Chloé, one could also interpret it as Sabrina actually liking someone being a public and haughty jerk.
  • Ambiguously Bi: She has a toxic yet very close relationship with Chloé, yet shows interest in an American boy during the New York special.
  • Animal Motifs: Dogs. Even before becoming Miss Hound, she often acted like Chloé's loyal hound, and the way she perks up whenever Marinette shows her any attention is rather similar to an abused dog that's suddenly shown kindness.
  • Beta Bitch: To Chloé's Alpha Bitch. Whenever Chloé comes up with one of her mean deeds, Sabrina is usually the one who does the dirty work while Chloé paints her nails or fixes her hairdo.
  • Birds of a Feather: After she cuts ties with Chloé, she becomes close friends with Marc for their shared love for soccer.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Platonic version. She's a very clingy friend and tends to seethe or despair when the object of her single-minded affection (usually Chloé, but on occasion Marinette) either stops hanging out with her or has other, non-Sabrina related things to do.
  • Daddy's Girl: Sabrina has a close relationship with her father. In the fifth season, as being Chloé's friend takes an increasing toll on her, she starts wearing her dad's old police whistle and blowing it to calm herself.
  • Death Glare:
    • In "Derision", When Chloé refuses to apologizes to Marinette for the traumatizing prank she pulled on her and goes on how she views not only Marinette, but anyone else beneath her as doormats to suffer for her amusement, Sabrina angrily gives her a silent one since she treats her as a doormat.
    • In "Collusion:", she gives one to Chloé, which shows that her "friendship" with her is over and decides to sit next to Nathaniel, who openly accepts her as his new seatmate.
  • Depending on the Writer: In some episodes, Sabrina comes off as an extremely docile but nice girl, while in others she is shown to have a mean streak.
  • Distracted by the Luxury: With the right impetus, she's willing to call Chloé out for her exploitative behaviour now and again... but she's also susceptible to flattery and luxurious gifts.
  • The Dog Bites Back:
    • In "Evillustrator", after some encouragement from Marinette, Sabrina finally confronts Chloé about how badly she treats her. Sadly, old habits are hard to break, and Sabrina ends up forgiving Chloé.
    • In "Antibug", Chloé spurns Sabrina when she accidentally embarrasses her in front of Jagged Stone, pretending Sabrina is invisible. This allows Hawk Moth to corrupt Sabrina and turn her into the Vanisher, whereupon Sabrina uses her new power to torment Chloé.
    • In "Confrontation", after spending the fourth and fifth seasons being treated even worse than ever by Chloé while at the same time watching her befriend Lila and treat her like a genuine friend and then being forcefully roped into a scheme by them to destroy Marinette and ruin their other classmates' futures in the process, Sabrina finally decides things have gone far enough, informs Marinette of the scheme, and participates in a successful counter-scheme to expose them. This effectively destroys their "friendship" once and for all.
  • Dramatic Irony: Part of the reason Sabrina is so loyal to Chloé and lets her treat her as a slave is because without Chloé, she would not have any other friends. But it's clear to the viewer it's the other way around, and if their friendship ends, Chloé would be the one without friends and Sabrina would probably be able to befriend her classmates. This ultimately happens in "Confrontation".
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • In "Adoration" she refuses to help Chloé and Lila with their plan to frame Marinette for theft even when Chloé threatens to unfriend her. However, this only makes her the perfect victim of Monarch, much to Lila's anticipation.
    • In "Confrontation" she once again refuses to take part in another one of Chloé's and Lila's evil schemes, this time to fake school forms in order to ruin all their classmates' future and lie about Marinette forcing her to do this in order to destroy her social life and turn everyone against her, but Chloé and Lila force her to go through with their scheme by locking her up in Chloé's closet again, which shows that they couldn't care less if they destroy everyone's futures just for Marinette. However, this time Sabrina warns Marinette about their scheme and the two come up with a plan in order to expose Chloé's and Lila's real intentions to their classmates and teachers, which ends up being successful.
  • Extreme Doormat: She has been doing Chloé's homework for her, and generally obeying her every order, since they were in elementary school. Ultimately this changes in "Confrontation".
  • Foil: To Adrien — Both are the only two individuals who consider Chloé a friend among their peers, but act quite passively in regards to her mean behavior, fearing the loss of the only friendship they've ever had. Adrien is practically doted on by Chloé because of her crush on him, thus acting as her Morality Pet, and after some Character Development on his part, he begins to call her out on her behavior. Sabrina is more like Chloé's servant than friend, as the latter hardly ever shows her loyal "friend" any kindness outside of the rare occasion, and while Sabrina has hurt Chloé in retaliation for her cruelty, she goes right back to being Chloé's doormat "friend". By the end of the episodes "Derision" and "Confrontation" though, both of them have cut ties with her for good after they realize that people like Chloé will never change their ways, despite the many chances you give them to prove that they can become a better person.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: Downplayed. She wears glasses and, depending on the episode, can be a Nice Girl or a shameless Beta Bitch.
  • Friendship Trinket: A brooch Chloé gave her means the world to her, and when Chloé tells her their friendship is over, it's what the Akuma possesses to turn her into Vanisher.
  • Grew a Spine: It finally happens in "Confrontation", when Sabrina reaches her breaking point with Chloé's and Lila's plans of hurting other people and with the help of Marinette, she manages to stand up against them and expose their evil scheme to their other classmates and teachers. "Collusion" solidifies that she ended her one-sided and toxic "friendship" with Chloé for good and is never coming back to her.
  • Hidden Depths: "Confrontation" reveals that she wants to become a nurse. "Penalteam" also shows that she's surprisingly good at soccer.
  • Iconic Item: In the fifth season, she starts wearing her dad's old police whistle around her neck.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: Her resemblance to her first English voice actress Marieve Herington is quite striking.
  • Innocent Beta Bitch: In the earlier episodes and later in the fourth and fifth seasons, she is a Nice Girl who gets disrespected and bossed around by Chloé.
  • Never Bareheaded: Always a white hairband in her hair.
  • Odd Friendship: After breaking things off with Chloé for good, she is often seen hanging out with Marc and Nathaniel.
  • Only Friend: Is this for Chloé. However, this changes in "Confrontation".
  • Passionate Sports Girl: Upon becoming chosen to become Miss Hound, she accepts so she can free Chloé. She also gets excited about being able to play soccer with the other heroes.
  • Punny Name: The name Sabrina Raincomprix is pronounced similarly to the French "Sabri n'a rien compris", or "Sabri didn't understand anything", alluding to how Chloé manipulates her.
  • The Resenter: For all her slavish devotion to Chloé, it's implied that, deep down, she feels this way about their unequal friendship. Notably, when Marinette stands up to Chloé and tells Sabrina that she could do better, Sabrina immediately christens Marinette her new best friend and is ecstatic about no longer having to deal with Chloé's freeloading. She even outright accuses Chloé of treating her like a slave, in Marinette's words, despite the latter never actually saying that. This grows after Chloé and Lila form their alliance in the fifth season, with Sabrina growing increasingly disillusioned with Chloé continuing to treat her like a slave while treating Lila like an equal, ultimately culminating in her defection in "Confrontation".
  • Satellite Character: Sabrina is pretty much completely defined by her relationship with Chloé, to the point that all three of her Akumatizations episodes involve them falling out in some way and her entire motivation to become a superhero is to help save Chloé when she is akumatized.
  • Shipper on Deck: Sabrina supports Chloé's affections towards Adrien. However, in "Cat Blanc" she's also seen supporting Marinette's relationship with Adrien.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Sabrina wears glasses, and between her and Chloé, she's the academically smarter.
  • Summon to Hand: Miss Hound has a ball that she can throw at items to "tag" them, which she can then teleport to herself with her "Fetch" ability.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Earlier in the series she was a mostly Nice Girl who simply went along with Chloé's schemes because she was her Only Friend and likely out of fear of her as well, but later episodes depict her as willingly going along with them and behaving more hostile towards others.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: She returns to her nice nature during the fourth and fifth seasons after bearing the brunt of Chloé's anger over losing her superhero status, and later the unfairness in her treatment of Lila during their alliance, and ultimately helps expose their scheme to destroy Marinette while ruining their classmate's futures, severing ties with Chloé for good in the process.
  • Undying Loyalty: Deconstructed. Out of all their classmates, Sabrina is staunchly loyal to Chloé. However, their relationship is proven to be nothing but unhealthy, as Sabrina is shown to be an Extreme Doormat because of this and going along with whatever selfish scheme or cruel action Chloé does... which means that if Chloé ever does end their friendship, Sabrina won't have any other friends because of her loyalty to Chloé. Ultimately subverted in "Confrontation" as Sabrina decides that Chloé and Lila's scheme to destroy Marinette and ruin their other classmates lives and futures is going too far even for her, and helps expose them. This destroys her and Chloé's "friendship" in the process, but also allows her to finally make new friendships with the rest of her classmates.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Some episodes imply that she genuinely thinks that Chloé is the underdog and Marinette is the bully.
  • Yes-Man: Sabrina basically agrees with everything Chloé says. Until Confrontation, Sabrina cut all ties with her, for good since she knows that doing things at the expense of others is crossing the line.

    Marc Anciel/Rooster Bold

Rooster Bold (Marc Anciel)

Akumatized form: Reverser

An aspiring and shy writer who joins the school's Art Class. He seemingly has feelings for fellow art classmate Nathaniel, which he seems to reciprocate after the events of "Reverser".

When Chloé is akumatized yet again in "Penalteam", Marc is one of the four heroes drafted by Ladybug to combat her and becomes the wielder of the Rooster Miraculous, Rooster Bold.

  • Birds of a Feather: He and Nath are both kind, shy, quiet and introverted artists. Also he and Sabrina bond for their love of Soccer after she cuts ties with Chloé.
  • Break the Cutie: After Nathaniel accused him of pulling a joke on him and ripped apart his notebook out of anger, he couldn't do anything but kneeling and crying over its remains. The look on his face is just heartwrenching.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: He greatly admires Nathaniel's art (and probably Nath himself), but is too nervous to tell him so.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Made one in "Frightningale".
  • Hidden Depths: "Penalteam" reveals he's an avid fan of soccer, and a gifted player as well.
  • Idiot Hair: The hair at the back of his head sticks up in all directions. While he is not stupid, he can be a bit clumsy.
  • Imagination-Based Superpower: Rooster Bold's Sublimation ability allows him to invent his own superpower that he can use for the next five minutes, so as long as it isn't a power a Kwami already possesses, interferes with a Kwami's natural abilities and they understand how that power would work.
  • In the Hood: He wears a red hoodie.
  • Irony: Roosters are famous for being bold and aggressive animals, while Marc is normally a Shrinking Violet.
  • Master of All: Downplayed. As Rooster Bold he can choose to have any superpower he wants as long as it doesn't interfere with another Kwami's concept.
  • Nice Guy: He is generally polite and friendly, even if he is very timid.
  • Possession Sue: In-Universe; given his fondness towards Nathaniel, the story he writes where Ladybug expresses her feelings for Nathaniel's fictional alter-ego comes off as this.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: He has fiery red hair as Rooster Bold.
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: As Rooster Bold, his hair grows into a red mohawk resembling of a rooster's comb.
  • Punny Name:
    • "Marc Anciel" sounds like "arc-en-ciel", which is French for "rainbow". Fittingly, he wears a rainbow-colored t-shirt.
    • "Rooster Bold" is a pun on DC Comics superhero Booster Gold.
  • Queer Colors: He has a rainbow-colored shirt and blushes around Nathaniel.
  • Rainbow Motif: He's LGBTQ+, wears a rainbow t-shirt and his name is a pun on "arc-en-ciel", which is French for "rainbow". This is especially appropriate in-contrast to his akumatized form Reverser, who is entirely black and white.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: He and Nathaniel and Birds of a Feather, but by a narrow margin, he's the sensitive guy to Nathaniel's manly man due to being more of a Shrinking Violet.
  • Shipper on Deck: During season 5, him and Nathaniel come up with various manga-inspired plans in order to help Marinette and Adrien's relationship progress.
  • Ship Tease: His relationship with Nathaniel has a lot of homoerotic subtext.
  • Shout-Out: His superhero codename is an obvious reference to Booster Gold.
  • Shrinking Violet: He is painfully shy and insecure about his writing skills.
  • Straight Gay: Wears a rainbow-colored T-shirt, his shy demeanor towards Nathaniel has romantic undertones and he is based on Hope Morphin, a bisexual and genderfluid friend of Thomas Astruc's, Feri Gonzàles later confirmed on her Twitter account that Marc is indeed LGBTQ+ and has a fondness towards Nathaniel. Yet, aside from his androgynous appearance, he doesn't display any camp mannerisms.

A shy artist who harbors a crush on Marinette (and in season 2, on Ladybug). However, he becomes close friends with Marc Anciel at the end of "Reverser".

When Chloé is akumatized yet again in "Penalteam", Nathaniel is one of the four heroes drafted by Ladybug to combat her and becomes the wielder of the Goat Miraculous, Caprikid.

  • Ambiguously Bi: Although he has a crush on Marinette (and later on Ladybug), by the end of "Reverser", he becomes friends with Marc Anciel... who's easily flustered in his presence, and whom he seems to reciprocate the feelings. They can later be seen in scenes involving couples, are always in each other's company, and in "Representation", the duo are holding hands intimately as Marc is trying to say something before they are interrupted.
  • Ambiguously Jewish: Going by his surname and his noticeable absence from the Christmas special (most of the rest of the class showing up at the Agreste mansion for Christmas dinner).
  • Art Initiates Life: Gains this power in two different ways. As Evillustrator, any drawings he made on his tablet affected reality around him. And as Caprikid, he gets a giant paintbrush that he can use with his Genesis power to create whatever mundane object he pleases (for example, he can create a prop magic wand, but he can't actually give it magical properties.)
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: He dreams of becoming a superhero who can save Marinette from the many villains plaguing Paris. His Akuma form's appearance and powers are identical to the superhero persona he made for himself.
  • Berserk Button: Being mocked over his crush or getting his romantic hopes up (Chloé mocking his crush on Marinette got him akumatized in the first place, Marinette pretending to go on a date with him in "Evillustrator," and believing Marc and Marinette led him to think Ladybug liked him in "Reverser") tends to turn the normally nice, shy, quiet Nathaniel real mean real quick.
  • Birds of a Feather: He and Marc are both nice, shy, quiet, introverted artists.
  • A Birthday, Not a Break: Like Alix, he gets akumatized on his birthday.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: Fellow art classmate Marc has feelings for him.
  • Fan Art: Makes this of himself and Marinette.
  • Fiery Redhead: Inverted. His hair is a deep red, but he's one of the quietest and shyest characters.
  • Her Code Name Was "Mary Sue": His comics have shades of this, given that they center on the exploits of Ladybug (who he is implied to have a crush on) and his Self-Insert superhero Mightillustrator.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: His hair covers his right eye and is of the "shy and demure" variety.
  • Hopeless Suitor: He's in love with Marinette. Needless to say, she doesn't reciprocate. The ending of "Evillustrator" and "Reverser" imply that his affections have moved to Ladybug, who is...still Marinette and still unlikely to return his feelings.
  • In-Universe Nickname: "Nath", as shown in "Reverser".
  • Jerkass Ball: In "Reverser", Nathaniel reacts very poorly when he finds out the "mysterious writer" he was set to meet was not the person he expected, mistaking the situation for a prank at his expense. He is usually a nice boy, even other times when people mocked him, he simply left rather than lash out at the other person. Though he does have a track record of reacting badly when he thinks someone is mocking his crush (Chloé) or getting his romantic hopes up (Marinette), as seen in "Evillustrator."
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Nathaniel is a shy and quiet artist. Alix is a bold and outgoing Tomboy. They're both friends.
  • Meaningful Name: The "Kurtz-" part of his last name is a Jewish surname meaning "short in height" — which is fitting since he's tinier than most of his classmates.
  • Mr. Imagination: He's rather dreamy, and fantasizes about being a superhero and saving a swooning Marinette from villains.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: His last name is a homage to Jack Kirby (born Jacob Kurtzberg), innovative comic book artist who created various characters for Marvel and DC.
  • Opposites Attract: A platonic version. Since they both love art, Alix is one of his closest friends. But she prefers street art while comics are more his taste.
  • Pretty Boy: Not as dashing as Adrien, but he still has rather fine facial features.
  • The Quiet One: Shares this role with Juleka. Nathaniel doesn't speak much, preferring to express himself through art.
  • Redemption Demotion: As Caprikid his superpower is practically the same as Evillustrator, only limited to single use before detransforming as well as only being able to make mundane items.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The quiet artist to Kim's competitive jock, but with Marc, he's the manly man due to Marc being more of a Shrinking Violet.
  • Shipper on Deck: During season 5, him and Marc come up with various manga inspired plans in order to help Marinette's and Adrien's relationship progress.
  • Ship Tease: His relationship with Marc has a lot of homoerotic subtext.
  • Shrinking Violet: And like most male examples is treated as a bit of a Butt-Monkey, which is what leads him into getting akumatized.
  • Shout-Out: The logo on his shirt is based on that of the band Magma, which creator Thomas Astruc and art director Nathanaël Bronn are fans of.
  • Tiny School Boy: He's noticeably tinier than the majority of his classmates, to the point that Miss Mendeleiev is able to lift him with one hand.
  • Twofer Token Minority: Jewish + Ambiguously Bi.
  • Tuckerization: His name is an homage to Nathanaël Bronn, chief art director of the show.

Ivan is a big guy who seems tough and scary, but actually has trouble expressing his feelings. He is in a relationship with Mylène.

When Chloé is akumatized yet again in "Penalteam", Ivan is one of the four heroes drafted by Ladybug to combat her and becomes the wielder of the Ox Miraculous, Minotaurox.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Mylène calls him "Teddy Bear".
  • All Drummers Are Animals: Averted. Ivan is the drummer for Kitty Section, but he's a Gentle Giant.
  • Amazon Chaser: Implied. The translation for his love letter to Mylène in "Stoneheart" had these specific lines in them:
"Stronger than oak, for others you fight…"
  • Bad Liar: According to Marinette and Nino in "Party Crasher", he can't lie to save his life.
  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: Ivan has the biggest eyebrows of his peers.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: He comes off as the typical tough guy, but is kind and gentle with Mylène. When the Horrificator attacks, he's shown protecting and comforting his classmates from the Akuma. Hawk Moth even lampshades how sensitive he actually is in the origins episode.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: In the origins episode, he gets akumatized because he has trouble confessing his feelings for Mylène.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Dresses in black and is almost always a Perpetual Frowner, but is one of the nicest in the class.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: His superhero name, Minotaurox, consists of "Minotaur" (the mythological Greek bullman) and "Ox" strung together.
  • Dreadful Musician: His attempt to confess to Mylène through song fails because his singing comes across as unintelligible screaming. However, in "Captain Hardrock", he proves to be a reasonably skilled drummer.
  • Face of a Thug: He generally looks like a typical tough guy, is a Perpetual Frowner, has dyed hair and usually wears a black shirt, but he is actually a fairly gentle and easygoing person most of the time.
  • Gentle Giant: He's by far the largest in the class, but is usually quiet and gentle unless provoked. In his own webisode, Marinette even calls him one.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Mylène is practically half Ivan's height.
  • The Juggernaut: The Ox Miraculous' power, Resistance, makes him completely impervious to attack.
  • Nice Guy: He may look intimidating, but he has a tender heart.
  • No-Sell: As Minotaurox, his Resistance ability protects him from other superpowers.
  • Official Couple: With Mylène as of "Stoneheart".
  • Opposites Attract: He's a surly Perpetual Frowner while Mylène is gentle and caring.
  • Perpetual Frowner: He seems to be always scowling, except when around Mylène.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: You'd expect his sweet girlfriend to be the one with the pink backpack, and yet, somehow it works for him.
  • Relationship Upgrade: At the end of "Stoneheart", him and Mylène.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: Gender-Inverted Trope. He's willing to punch anyone who insults his girlfriend, even if that someone is another girl.
  • Would Hit a Girl: In "Collusion", he almost punches Chloé after she insults his girlfriend Mylène. Marinette needing to step in order to stop him.
  • Youthful Freckles: He has some freckles on his nose and cheeks, emphasizing that, despite his height, Ivan is still a teenager.
