You Make Me Sic is a strange trope to say the least. It's supposed to be used for whenever a character in a work calls out another character for incorrect spelling/grammar usage. On This Very Wiki, however, it's constantly misused as a pothole whenever a reference is made that contains (or is about) spelling/incorrect grammar.

Recap.Gravity Falls S 2 E 20 Weirdmageddon Part 3 Take Back The Falls: Played for Drama. During the last part to use the prophecy to stop Bill for good, after Ford begrudgingly thanks Stan, Ford makes a little small comment about Stan's flawed grammar that causes Stan to lose it and start fighting him, screwing up the plan once Bill catches up to them.
Recap.Arthur S 22 E 1 Mr Ratburn And The Special Someone The Feud: Muffy's love poem to Ms. Turner, a librarian, is loaded with spelling mistakes and bad grammar. Ms. Turner simply hands it back to her with the mistakes marked and a book on how to write poetry.
ComicStrip.Fox Trot:
- Done frequently by Andy. She tries to justify it by being an English major who appreciates the value of the language, but judging from Peter's response of "You're coming through real clear", it doesn't work.
- Roger, of all people, chews out a co-worker for turning in a typo-filled paper. Said co-worker blames it on his computer's lack of a spell checker. (Worth mentioning is that this isn't Roger complaining about a few misspelled words- the co-worker had the spelling skills of a three year old. Even the simplest words are mangled, the punchline being that computerized spellchecking was so commonplace that the co-worker believed the lack of it was a perfectly acceptable excuse for the abysmal quality.)
Anime.Aggretsuko: In one of the OTM Girls YouTube shorts, the girls get into a disagreement because Manaka says the word "cake" in a flat tone, making it sound like she is saying the word for "economy," and Hidarin and Miggy correct her. They win the argument by pronouncing Manaka's name in a flat tone to show her how it doesn't sound right.
Animation.Happy Heroes: In Season 2 episode 32, Happy S., Sweet S., and Smart S. find the mysterious note that Careless S. found earlier, which says that the heroes have turned against him. Smart S. quips that the note should look suspicious just from reading it because... it has two spelling mistakes.
ComicBook.La Ribambelle: While reading the Caimans' threat letter, Archibald is horrified by their awful spelling mistakes.
ComicallyMissingThePoint.Live Action Films: In Canadian Bacon, Sherriff Boomer, Kabral, and Roy Boy steal a truck and paint anti-Canadian graffiti on it. They later get pulled over by a Canadian highway patrolman because of it. However, it's not because the graffiti is anti-Canadian. It's because it's only in English and not also in French. He then helpfully provides translations and the spray-can to do them with. Aren't Canadians just the nicest people?
Driven to Suicide.Film: Alice from Up the Down Staircase has a crush on a teacher of hers. When she gives him a love letter he just fixes her grammar. It upsets her so much that she jumps out of a school window, though she survives.
EvilIsPetty.Live Action Films: Hot Fuzz: This film could have easily been labeled Evil Is Petty: The Movie. The main character, Sgt. Angel, suspects that the murders happening throughout the film were committed because of a conspiracy about a land deal, but when he actually gets to confront The Conspiracy, the members confess that they killed all of the victims for silly and very banal reasons, though for them it was deeply Serious Business. Martin Blower was killed for being a bad actor, Eve Draper was killed for having an affair with Blower and an Annoying Laugh, George Merchant was killed for having a modern-style home that clashes with the local rustic aesthetic, Tim Messenger was killed because of his awful spelling and for running tabloid-esque tripe in the local newspaper. And that is not mentioning their other victims, like the underage drinkers, that shoplifter, those crusty jugglers, the weapons-owning farmer, and the Living Statue.
Film.A Letter To Three Wives: After Rita cuts off George's tirade against radio advertising, Mrs. Manleigh tells her not to let his attitude upset her, saying "Don't you feel badly." This just riles George even further:
George: "Bad"! Not "badly"! You "feel badly" this way! [raises his hands and mimes running his fingers over something]
Futurama.Tropes T To Z: Multiple examples. Happens frequent with robot mafia henchman Joey Mousepad, whose mangled English is a Running Gag.

- "The bunny rabbits is coming!", a phrase repeated constantly in the titular episode. Lampshaded multiple times with several characters pointing out "Shouldn't that be the bunny rabbits ''are'' coming"?, rather than questioning what the message actually means.
- A blooper in "Weatherman Wade" had Roy say the line "None of us wears any!" when asking Lanolin why she appears on the show (to do laundry).
VideoGame.Fallout 3: The terminals in the LOB building reveal that the company is carrying out illicit weapons research for the Chinese, and the management fear the place inevitably being stormed by the government. A final email reading "MAN THE DOORS! THE FEDS ARE HERE!" is met with a snippy response about the company policy against using all-caps in emails.
Music.Songs By Tom Lehrer: In "Be Prepared", Lehrer admonishes young Boy Scouts, "Don't write naughty words on walls if you can't spell".
Manga.Rurouni Kenshin: No matter how serious the time is, Kenshin's friends always take note of his poor handwriting skills before actually reading whatever important message they receive from him.

Incorrect - Pothole tied to bad spelling (19/50)

AwesomeMusic.Persona 3: Mistic (sic), which is the basis for the themes of the different Tartarus floors and plays during one of the tensest moments in the game (when the player decides whether or not to kill Ryoji). It's based around a deep relaxing piano and string melody, but avoids Soundtrack Dissonance. Mystic is misspelled.
Cowboy BeBop at His Computer.Music: A passing mention that the band Camper Van Beethoven had recorded a cover of "Pink Floyd's classic "Stairway to Heaven". The passage refers to the band's "Stairway to Heavan", but it seems that the author didn't even listen to or look up the copyright information on that song - it's an original instrumental that isn't even a cover of the Led Zeppelin song they incorrectly attribute to the Floyd. Heaven is misspelled.
Fanfic.Doom Repercussions Of Evil: Cassandra Truth: Cernel [sic] Joson doesn't listen to John's warnings about the monsters. Colonel is mispelled.
FrivolousLawsuit.Real Life: In 2015, a woman in Nebraska filed papers to sue all homosexual people on behalf of God. Sylvia Ann Driskell, a woman claiming to be an "Ambassador of God", did not seek any monetary payment; she wanted the courts to determine whether or not homosexuality was a sin. Driskell cited no laws in her petition, which was handwritten on notebook paper, and riddled with spelling and grammar errors. The only evidence Driskell cited for her claim was a series of Bible verses.^note In other words, Driskell's petition was a seven-page homophobic rant, and what she wanted was for the courts to throw all gay people in jail. The case was quickly dismissed on the grounds that there was no demand for relief, no particularized injury to the plaintiff, no specifically identified defendant (citing Mayo vs. Satan, listed above), and that the court has no interest or authority in engaging in such theological debate. To add insult to more insult, the official record of the case retains all the spelling and grammar errors in the letter. Bolded pothole references said errors.

MeaningfulName.Video Games: Fallout: New Vegas: In fact, all members of the Think Tank have names related to infinite repetition, which are part of Dr. Mobius' recursion programming. Dr. Klein is named after the Klein bottle, Dr. Dala's name is short for "Mandala" (a circular geometric pattern), Dr. O/0's name(s) is/are a literal loop, Dr. 8's name is a sideways infinity symbol, Dr. Mobius' name is an obvious reference to the Mobius strip, and Dr. Borous' name is a (misspelled) reference to the Ouroboros (the snake that eats its own tail). Entry flat-out admits the name's a misspelled reference.
NinjaPirateZombieRobot.Food And Drink: The Ju(i)cy Lucy. Unique to the Twin Cities, it is a cheese burger with the cheese inside the burger patty. When in doubt, put things inside other things. Incidentally, like many American dishes, this one has two restaurants claiming to be its source; the two places also argue about the spelling (one arguing for the "correct" spelling and the other averring it should be called the "Jucy Lucy" because their claimed originator spelled it that way). This seems to be discussion about how the restaurant should be spelled.
ArsonMurderAndJaywalking.Real Life: President Donald Trump has been criticised for:
- failing to criticise Neo-Nazis, threatening his political opponents and serving the Clemson Tigers football team "hamberders." Obvious spelling error.
Headscratchers.Dan And Mabs Furry Adventures: From their Demonology page: "Left abandoned in a field, it was to her suprise [sic] that she arose back up due to the spell. Thanks to her quick thinking, she was able to enlist the aide [sic] of her friend and classmate Moira Den to become the first being to successfully win a case over her own murder." Aid is misspelled.
NotAlwaysWorking.Tropes A To E: Blatant Lies: This employee has made a habit of calling out sick, to the point where their boss (the submitter) demands a doctor's note the next time they come in to prove their "illness". The next day the employee brings a hastily typed up doctors note listing, a claim of "‘traumitic’ illness of the ‘lunges’, a 555 number and street address, and Ronald McDonald as the alleged "doctor", and then screams his head off despite his supposedly ill lungs. The unamused submitter immediately shows the lazy employee the door. Traumatic and Lungs are misspelled.
ShoutOut.Mortal Kombat: Liu Kang: One of his fighting styles in Deception and Armageddon is called Jun Fan, after Bruce Lee's birth name, Jun Fan Lee. In Shaolin Monks, he has Jeet Kune Do (misspelled without the "e" in "Kune"), Bruce Lee's fighting style. Directly points out a misspelling.
ShoutOut.Red Vs Blue: Singularity (Season 17): The title of the final episode of the season - "Theogeny" - is an intentionally misnamed version of "theogony," the term used for the birth and origins of the ancient Greek gods. Relatedly, the season's penultimate episode ("Omphalos") is named after the supposed "center of the world" where the Oracle of Delphi lived. Directly points out an intentional spelling error.
SoBadItsGood.Fan Works: The Quest for the Holey Grail is a hilariously bad crossover between Arthurian Legend, Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, and a host of other things. Features such madness as the Holey Grail actually being the Goblet of Fire, a man made of blood, and Doctor Who sending the heroes to the past, where they eat chicken wings. It seems to have been written by a young child. Holy is misspelled.
TearJerker.PBG Hardcore: Minecraft #6
- In the season finale, the quest ends with a Bittersweet Ending. The team successfully reaches their goal and kills the Wither—however, Jared, who had been targeted nearly exclusively by the Wither for the entire fight, is finally brought down literally five seconds before the boss is killed, sucking the air out of what would have otherwise been a spectacular victory—especially considering that this was the first season that Jared was part of that ended in success after a lengthy streak of failures, and he was so close to living long enough to see his unlucky streak finally end.
  - Jared's epitaph drives home how instrumental he was to the team's victory.
  Gravestone: Jared, he fought valiently, and was our SHIELD
  - Valiantly is misspelled.
UsefulNotes.Sega Genesis: There is a hack called Fantom Bitmap(*sic*) which allows an astonishing 4096 colors on screen. Phantom is misspelled.
WeUsedToBeFriends.Real Life: The Cynical Brit (aka TotalBiscuit) and the Yogscast were once best friends in the Vitriolic Best Buds sense, with many collaborations and publicly defending one another when push came to shove. The relationship took a nasty turn in Summer 2014 when TB was forced to call them out on the failure of their Kickstarter project and their disclosing sponsored content (since not doing so would have meant turning a blind eye when his channel advocates disclosure and is pro-consumer) and Lewis Brindley accused him and Nerd³ (who is good friends with TB) of not disclosing sponsored content without any real evidence. Things were essentially left to be forgotten at that point on TB's end until March 2015, when Simon Lane called him a "crying pissbabby" (sic) over a comic book no less, causing TB to publicly declare that he was cutting ties with the group. There should be only 2 B's in Baby.

Incorrect - Pothole tied to bad grammar (4/50)

RedBaron.Real Life: The Germans frequently bestowed "devil" nicknames. The United States Marines became "Teufelhunden" ("devil dogs") following the battle of Belleau Wood (1918)^note and the P-38 fighter became "the fork-tailed devil" from its twin booms and surprising maneuverability. If you can't find the pothole, it's in the note, which blatantly says the nickname's grammatically wrong.
ArtisticLicenseEconomics.Video Games: According to the description of the "Something Special for Someone Special" (an engagement ring) in Team Fortress 2, it costs "approximately two months^notesic salary". The note implies this is a grammar mistake.
Fanfic.A Brighter Dark: Easy Logistics: Invoked by Jakob to the benefit of Corrin. Due to Jakob's talent with organizing and management, he assures his liege that she won't have to worry about any of the details of her decisions and that whatever path they took, he would ensure everything ended up where it needed to be without her having to think about it. Cavalries is singular in the below quote.
Narration: All she needed to know, as Jakob put it, was that there would be an army of 300 men at arms, 100 archers, 50 [cavalry], 10 flyers, and even 2 mages all prepped and ready to march at the break of dawn.
VideoGame.Hitman 2016: Leaning on the Fourth Wall: The 151-proof Vodka has a hard-to-read label on the back that reads the following:

"This vodka is highly flammable and should be kept away from open fire. Should you accidentally apply the vodka somewhere on your body, like, lets say you hands for instance, rinse immediately with water, and do not under any circumstances try to perform fire rituals or the like."

Not only should there be an "R" in Your, but it leads to an awkward transition since the label is referring to the user's hands.

HoYay.Sponge Bob Square Pants: And then there's the episode "Sailor Mouth" where SpongeBob writes on a dumpster: Squidward smells... GOOD. Simply quoting the writing on the dumpster.
CowboyBebopAtHisComputer.Video Games: A British magazine failed to recognize that the series' logo was written in Japanese when reviewing Puyo Puyo Sun as an import title, and labeled it "Ijidkijidk Sun". The review also described the plot as being about "three characters travelling through the countryside trying to save the heat from the sun being sapped away by an evil goblin [sic]", but there are three problems with this. Firstly, the "evil goblin" is Satan, who is not a goblin. Secondly, Satan does not drain the heat from the sun, but rather the opposite - he makes the sun bigger and hotter. Lastly, only two of the three main playable characters (Arle and Schezo) try to stop Satan from messing with the sun, while the third (Draco) enjoys the artificial heat wave and takes the opportunity to get a tan. Just quoting the incorrect plot summary.

Incorrect - Miscellaneous (5/50)

AuthorsSavingThrow.Persona 5: The localization of the original game had some rough edges to it, with some occasional spelling mistakes and some strangely-formatted sentences. Royal goes out of its way to improve the localization by redoing elements of the script that needed it most, and worked to improve certain lines to give them more personality. Entry does not mention specific spelling or grammar mistakes, but it does not mention characters either.
Painting the Medium.Literature: In Jonathan Safran Foer's Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close a father, writing to his dead son, mentions how he wishes he had an infinitely long book with which to write in, because he fears that at his current rate his words will start to slam into each other and become illegible. Farther along the letter the words do begin to get closer, then words start being printed on top of other words, and then the page is completely black.
- Another instance in the same book has the same father's firsthand account of the bombing of Dresden marked up by red circles that highlight misplaced commas and misspelled words. Red circles are not characters.
MundaneMadeAwesome.Web Original: A review of the parody RPG Super PSTW not only missed the point of the game, but was so poorly written that it prompted this dramatic reading. Entry does not mention specific spelling or grammar mistakes, but it does not mention characters either.
NightmareFuel.Fan Works: The Regressor, who's been reimagining Undertale in N64 graphics, finished the model for Omega Flowey. He still falls within the Uncanny Valley and finds new and exciting ways to obliterate the fourth wall. Such obliterations include: knowing damn well that he's not supposed to be a 3D model as opposed to a sprite, playing the original cutscene before his boss fight in five seconds because "no one wants to see a static screen with text on it for 1:13 seconds", and hijacking the OmegaStation 64's Vanity Plate rather than the opening exposition of the game itself. Also, the ear-piercing noises its attack motion makes. Awkward formatting, meant to be read as "A minute and 13 seconds."
BadassBoast.Fan Works: Three-Point Shot
- Kokichi's no slouch either, especially with this one to Monokuma.

- Emphasis is placed on the second usage of to in a not-so-roundabout way.

CowboyBebopAtHisComputer.Web Media: Another example comes into his The Elf That Rescued Christmas review, where he gets angry about the discovery of Basil's ice lair being built over a volcano, in Lapland. While the fact that an ice structure being built over a volcano does stretch the Willing Suspension of Disbelief, the nearby area, ironically named Iceland, does have prominent volcano activity, even with all the snow, including the eruption of Eyjafjallajokull in 2010 that brought air traffic in Europe to a grinding halt. I'm not familiar with this work, so I don't know if Duckyworth got the title wrong.

It seems that Grammar Nazi is this trope, but applied to wikis. Or not.

The description for Grammar Nazi is super confusing-can a character be one? Is it just for wikis? Numerous characters are listed as Grammar Nazis—is that supposed to be the case?

I think You Make Me Sic is when a Grammar Nazi or another character corrects someone else, while Grammar Nazi is the character in question who does it a lot. But does that make You Make Me Sic a valid subtrope?

This whole thing is super confusing.

Well, that trope is about someone treating grammar as Serious Business.

According to You Make Me Sic’s description it’s supposed to about how someone unexpectedly gets their grammar/spelling corrected as a gag so I guess they are related? The examples on both tropes don’t seem very distinctive to me so I am not sure.

I think I might take Grammar Nazi to the Trope Description Improvement Drive since the description doesn't get across very well that a character can be this. Is that a good move?

I don't think OP is defining the trope correctly. As I see it, this is for gags where the spelling correction happens in an inappropriate context. Like in this strip.

While that is correct, the name doesn't very clearly illustrate that, and I suspect other tropers have made this mistake, so this trope may need a rename to be clearer.

First paragraph of You Make Me Sic

A gag where a character corrects another's spelling or grammar in a context where you wouldn't usually expect it. A common setup is when a note (either of love or insult) is sent to someone, only to have it come back with all the spelling mistakes highlighted, or for extra hubris, notes like "See me" as if from a teacher, as this is the inevitable result whenever a student attempts to write a love note to their teacher.

Someone who does a You Make Me Sic isn't necessarily a Grammar Nazi, I think. The corrector might just be having a snarky moment, evading a subject, defusing tension, or something.

A lot of the misuse is just potholing the trope to the "as written" insertion, like "blah blah balh [sic]" or "blah blah blha"

Grammar Correction Gag sounds like a pretty good name. I'm pretty sure I was also guilty of potholing this to "[sic]", so I'd at least avoid names related to that.

I like Grammar Correction Gag. Not easy to turn into a Pothole Magnet, gets the point across clearer, and hopefully better illustrates the purpose of the trope.

My only problem is that the name doesn't illustrate that it has to be in an inappropriate situation.

As much as I love the current title, I can agree that a rename is probably for the best.

Maybe Inappropriate Grammar Correction? Hmm, maybe not, that sounds like someone correcting grammar and getting it wrong...

Maybe Grammar Gripe Gag would work if we want even more alliteration, though it is true that it and Grammar Correction Gag may not get the "inappropriate" part across.
