General Trivia
- Per Word of God, the featured worlds are based on a previous Continuity from the Super Robot Wars franchise.
- World 1 is reminiscent of the "Classic Timeline", but with Mazinkaiser representing the original Mazinger Z, and Devilman and Kotetsu Jeeg thrown into the mix, hence its old-school setting.
- World 2 draws inspiration from the Super Robot Wars Alpha saga, though the Getter Robo and Neon Genesis Evangelion entries are replaced with their modern counterparts Getter Robo Armageddon and Rebuild of Evangelion, respectively. Furthermore, Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn could be seen as the next logical "entry" in the Universal Century set of events from Gundam for the Alpha saga.
- World 3 emulates the Super Robot Wars Z saga, except the events from the Cosmic Era start off with the original Mobile Suit Gundam SEED rather than skip straight into Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny like Z and Scramble Commander the 2nd did. However due it has two separate worlds, one world (Gundam SEED and Full Metal Panic! series) is more resembling to Judgment and/or W, while the other world (Gundam 00 and Code Geass series) is very closely to 2nd Z.
- Worlds 4 and 5 are the exception - the only worlds in Super Robot Wars DD that don't have a designated theme; the second promotional video refers to them as a "standalone world".
- World 6 is based on installments that dabbled in isekai themes, Super Robot Wars NEO and Super Robot Wars X, which explains the addition of Jushin Liger and Mashin Hero Wataru Series. The addition of Future Robot Daltanious can be chalked up to how NEO was a Spiritual Successor of Super Robot Wars GC, where it was featured. Also, had negotiations ran smoother back then, Madö King Granzört would have been included in NEO with Wataru.
- August 2023 new series update marks the return of a series featuring Akira Kamiya's voice (Raideen) to the series, despite using just pre-recorded voices after many years (his voice's last appearance being Super Robot Wars Z). The long absence created a rumor that Kamiya's advanced age and certain contract prevented even his pre-recorded voice to be re-used even by Bandai Namco; this addition debunks the rumor and shows that Bandai Namco is free to use Kamiya's pre-recorded voices.
Tropes
- Acting for Two:
- Yohei Azakami not only voices the game's main protagonist, Dido, but also reprises his role as Kuromukuro protagonist Kennosuke.
- Kenichi Suzumura reprises both of his roles as Shinn Asuka and Bravern.
- Author's Saving Throw: In the latter half of 2023, Bandai Namco added most of the event-only characters as permanently unlockable units, effectively allowing everyone to unlock 99% of the units in the game.
- He Also Did: Unlike other installments, DD features multiple well-known character/mechanical designers.
- Famed Anime director Masami Obari is the mechanical designer for the Didarion and Didarion Zaam.
- Suzuhito "Suzupin" Yasuda is the character designer for Dido, Meguru Daimon and Sakimi Kanmaki, known for his works such as Yozakura Quartet, Durarara!!, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? and both Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor video games.
- Wataru Watanabe, is responsible for Linalia Kuo; DD marks his fourth collaboration with Super Robot Wars as a character designer after his work in Super Robot Wars OG Saga: Masou Kishin F - Coffin of the End, Super Robot Wars V and Super Robot Wars X-Ω.
- Kenji Teraoka, who designed all the Grafdins in DD, was the mechanical designer for Code Geass, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Gundam Build Fighters, Mobile Suit Gundam 00 and Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans.
- The Other Darrin:
- Instead of being voiced by Yoshinori Fujita, Kudal Cadel is now voiced by Shinji Kawada.
- Due to the passing of Yuu Shimaka, Nabu from Granzort is voiced by Katsuhisa Houki. Likewise, Pose is voiced by Volcano Ota due to his original voice actor, Kei Yoshimizu, retiring.
- As opposed to any of his previous actors, Jinmen gets a new voice actor in form of Bin Shimada. Before this, Kaim is also received a new voice actor which is voiced by Atsuki Tani.
- With this game serving as his first voiced appearance, Agyal is voiced by Michihiro Ikemizu instead of Taro Sagami.
- Role Reprise:
- Both Show Hayami and Yoshiko Sakakibara return to voice Akira Fudo and Sirène respectively, who both previously played those roles in the Original Video Animations Devilman: The Birth and Devilman: Demon Bird Sirène. However, this is averted with Jinmen and Kaim (see above).
- Since the Mazinkaiser is based on the OVA, Hiroya Ishimaru is back voicing Kouji again (via pre-recorded voices). Previously (and between this game and the last time he voiced Kouji in NEO), other actors stood in for him in Shin Mazinger and Mazinger Z: Infinity.
- With the inclusion of Raideen, this marks the return of Akira Kamiya, who was thought to be unable to reprise his past roles at all, not even his pre-recorded voices, to provide the voice of a series character within the whole franchise.
- What Could Have Been:
- During the 2018 Taipei Game Show, Super Robot Wars series producer Takenobu Terada stated he had wanted Devilman in the franchise years earlier, but never got the opportunity and was afraid of the backlash by fans about its inclusion. Thanks to X-Ω and its numerous non-Mecha debuts from different genres, Devilman was added into DD.
- In a 2019 stream post-launch for Super Robot Wars T, Terada claimed he wanted to make a licensed installment called Shin Super Robot Warsnote that used only Showa Era-Humongous Mecha series with a straight-forward plot of an enemy force that wanted to exterminate humanity and heroes who had to make due without advanced technology (most prominently, the lack of Internet). When he proposed the idea, he was ignored by a majority of his co-workers who weren't born in that era, citing their unfamiliarity with those properties. However, the idea would be partially implemented into this game's World 1 setting.
- You Sound Familiar:
- Linaria is voiced by Haruna Ikezawa, previously Amara.
- Angilon is voiced by Tomokazu Sugita, previously Bullet and Gaen.
- Mabilon is voiced by Aya Endo, previously Sumera.
