A 25-year-old Bronze-class adventurer who is eaten by a dragon, but later resurrects as an animate skeleton.

  • Achievements in Ignorance: For many years, he thought of himself as a low-ranking adventurer who never made any difference. Unbeknownst to him, the guild depended a lot on his social skills and knowledge for negotiations and counsel to new adventurers. He even helped improve the town's safety by signaling which places were dangerous and crime was greatly reduced thanks to him.
  • Authority in Name Only: He is supposedly Edel's master, but Edel mostly does whatever he wants.
  • Bishōnen Line: After his death, he comes back as a living skeleton. Through existential evolution, he gradually evolves into more humanlike monsters and starts aiming to become a vampire.
  • Can't Catch Up: Rentt's core problem during his 10-year adventurer career is that his body and abilities do not break out of their shell despite training daily and regular exposure to danger via solo adventuring.
  • Chaste Hero: His single-minded goal is becoming a Mithril-class adventurer and he seems uncapable of noticing Lorraine's romantic feelings for him, much to her frustration.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: If there's a job where he can help people, he'll take it no matter how dangerous or badly paid it is.
  • Clingy MacGuffin: After evolving into a ghoul, Rina buys him a skull mask that turned out to be cursed and now he can't remove it from his face, not even by using divinity.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Back in his hometown, Rentt had two girls pining for his affection, but he never noticed their feelings even though they weren't subtle about their advances. He's just as clueless when it comes to Lorraine's love for him.
  • Cool Sword: He asks Clope to make him a sword that can channel mana, spirit and divinity.
  • Creepy Good: He has become an undead, going from a living skeleton to a ghoul to a type of vampire. His appearance looks scary, but he's a good and heroic guy.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: His parents and best friend were brutally killed by a wolf monster in front of him when he was only five years old.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He's an undead dressed completely black and wearing a cursed skull mask, but he's as much of a nice and affable guy as when he was a human and frequently takes jobs to help people.
  • Dem Bones: After he dies at the dungeon, he becomes an animate skeleton.
  • Experienced Protagonist: He's a veteran adventurer with a decade of experience.
  • The Faceless: In the manga, his human face is always obscured in flasbacks before his transformation into an undead.
  • Green Thumb: His Divinity can grow plants, implying he was blessed by a Nature Spirit.
  • Happily Adopted: After his parents were killed by a wolf monster, he was adopted by Ingo and Gilda Faina. He seems to be on good terms with his adoptive parents.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: He's the hero of story and prefers using swords as his weapon of choice.
  • Hide Your Otherness: After becoming an undead, he covers his body with a coat and a mask to hide himself and avoid being hunted as a monster.
  • Horror Hunger: After he evolves into a thrall, Rentt is overcome by an insatiable thrist for blood and bites Lorraine to drink her blood, with her needing to blast him away with magic to get him to stop and come back to his senses.
  • Househusband: He and Lorraine aren't married, but he cooks for her, cleans her house and does laundry after he moves in with her.
  • Masking the Deformity: He wears a mask that Rina bought for him to hide that his face, which looks more like that of a decomposing corpse.
  • Nice Guy: He's a very kind and friendly guy who easily gets along with others even after becoming an undead.
  • Oblivious to Love: He's oblivious to Lorraine's romantic feelings for him, despite having known her for a decade.
  • Oh, Crap!: He's shocked when he encounters a Dragon in a low-level dungeon.
  • Real Name as an Alias: To hide his identity, he registers at the guild as a new adventurer, but he still uses "Rentt" as his first name.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: He gains red eyes with his evolution into a vampire.
  • Relatively Flimsy Excuse: He makes himself pass as Lorraine's relative when he registers at the guild as "Rentt Vivie" so no one suspects why they live together.
  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: He's quick to deny he's in a romantic relationship with Lorraine when people assume she's his girlfriend, even though she obviously wants to be.
  • Sole Survivor: He was the only survivor of the wolf monster attack that took the lives of his parents and best friend.
  • Winged Humanoid: After evolving into a vampire, he can sprout bat-like wings from his back.

  • Magical Eye: She has an unspecified magical eye. She can examine mana capacities, among other things.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Rentt is the only man she ever had feelings for. His transformation into an undead doesn't affect her feelings at all.
  • The Smart Girl: Rentt relies on her skills as a researcher and scholar to figure out how his undead body works and the progress of his evolutions.
  • Voluntary Vampire Victim: After Rentt starts evolving into a vampire, Lorraine lets him drink her blood to satiate his thrist.
  • Well-Trained, but Inexperienced: Initially. Despite her immense spellcasting talent and education she freezes up during her first time in a real fight.
