Go To

Team DUSK

The members of Team DUSK are the main protagonists of RWBY: Team DUSK, having gathered the White Knight and Queen Relics during the Beacon Academy Initiation, consisting of Daniel Norden, Hunter Upson, Sandra Syke, and Alyssa King.

    In General
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Each member of Team DUSK has this to some extent and is often no different from what the canon characters went through.
    • Daniel lost his uncle and mother, someone tried murdering him when he was 13, and then his father left him. He spent the last three years in Mistral, most often the lower parts where criminals and assassins are at several corners, going through several things there.
    • Hunter was the son of one of Renmnant's most dangerous mercenaries, if that wasn't the most complicated thing, he lost his voice after his classmates played around with Lightning Dust, and one of the shards ended up frying his vocal cords.
    • Sandra was raised as the sole child in a survivalist tribe, the Skye Tribe, and she found herself with no friends. She was then left behind by her mother and forced to survive in the deserts alone, almost starving, dehydrated, and eaten by Grimm. She then discovered her mother, the sole connection she had died, not knowing whether or not she loved her as a mother.
    • Alyssa was raised in an almost chauvinist house, where women weren't allowed to be Huntress. After deciding to become one herself, she was immediately cut off from the family, receiving neither praise nor support, reaching the point of turning the outside shed into a bedroom for herself and moving there.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Daniel and Sandra didn't get along, Hunter was nervous and couldn't speak, and Alyssa tried to get along with Sandra, but failed. None of them might have gotten the best start in the beginning, but as time passed, the group became a well-oiled fighting machine after a fight against a giant bull, building friendships, fighting bullies for friends, dealing with past trauma, and dealing with your asshole older brother.
  • Meaningful Name: He was named Hunter because of his father's desire for him to become a mercenary. At the same time, this is almost synonymous with being a Huntsman too.
  • Misery Builds Character: Alright, almost every person in Team DUSK has some parental issue in their life, which is one of the reasons the four of them treat one another as a second family.
    • Daniel's life is almost defined by hardships, something which someone such as Weiss mentions. Natalia's death and Richard's paternal neglect (then abandonment) left him without someone to train him, leaving him to train and raise himself since, then learning to survive alone in Mistra; leading Daniel to become a self-made man and fighter without paternal or financial support. Ozpin, however, noted that because of this, he has forgotten what it means to rely on someone else because almost no one supported him.
    • Hunter's father taught him to survive and advised him to become a mercenary, no different from himself, being an almost softer version of Marcus Black, even referring to it as "bonding". Rather than being forceful, this is due to a personal belief that nothing would come from being a Huntsman and aiding others. After seeing the anguish of realizing who his father was in his mother's eyes, this instead sturred Hunter's desire to become a Huntsman using what he learned for others. This, however, became stunted after losing the inability to speak, because some dumb students decided to play with Lightning Dust.
    • Sandra was left alone in Vacuo without her mother, or a father who died before she was born, leaving her to get a job and learn to survive on her own until enrolling in Primary Combat School, then enrolling into Beacon Academy. Because of that, she has long since been an independent person.
    • Alyssa lost all familial and financial support the moment she decided to become a Huntress, an act which went against her family's traditions. Same as Daniel and Sandra, she supported herself, at least, financially, in addition to needing to convert a shed outside into a liveable bedroom, until she enrolled in Beacon Academy.
  • True Companions: Daniel comes from Atlas, Hunter comes from Mistral, Sandra comes from Vacuo, and Alyssa comes from Vale. It took some time for Team DUSK to form a solid bond with one another, though for Sandra, it took some more effort. But, now together, the four of them will do whatever it takes to support and protect one another as their second family.
  • Team Spirit: Even after being together for not even a day, the members of Team DUSK would work together to fight against the giant Grimm, the Behemoth.
  • Team Title: Team DUSK.

    Daniel Norden

Daniel Norden

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/daniel_norden_face.png
Daniel Norden, the snarking leader of Team DUSK.

Daniel was born into the Norden Family, an Atlesian Family held in high esteem by most and second to the Schnee Family. He, in particular, is the oldest of three cousins, almost the "older brother"; the son of Natalia Norden and Richard Fenris, a Wolf Faunus, former partners and members of Team NOIR, and younger half-brother of Adam Taurus. Unlike high-born Atlesians, Daniel is nonchalant and sarcastic, caring nothing about status or position, instead focused on doing whatever makes him feel free.

His Semblance Runes, allows him to use Runic Magic to create and control up to 24 runes with their meanings and effects. If arranged in a specific order, then their meaning and effects change, making it one of the most versatile Semblances.

His main weapon is a Break-Action Gun-Blade (BAGB) named Retribution, which can be loaded with normal or Dust Rounds for that extra "oomph". His custom-made white-and-silver semi-automatic handgun, Vanir, and a black-and-gold semi-automatic handgun, Aesir.

  • Ace Custom: Daniel acted as the assistant and student of Pietro Polendina, an Atlesian Scientist, learning about general engineering from the man. As such, he became adept at crafting his prided weapons from scratch.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk:
  • BFS:
  • Broken Ace: Born into one of the most respected and famous families on Remnant, a handsome, sociable, intelligent, talented, surrounded and loved by friends and family, but underneath all that Daniel has been through more than what an adult could withstand. The uncle he respected was killed at age 7, and the mother he adored was killed at age 10, causing his dad to become a recluse, leaving him to take care of him and the house for three years, at age 13, he almost died and his dad vanished, leaving him with a letter, almost breaking Daniel. It doesn't stop there, after a year of rehabilitation, note  he spent the next three years in Lower Mistral, the worst place in Mistral where Criminals, Assassins, and Rogue Huntsman reside with an inept caretaker.
  • Bruce Lee Clone: Downplayed. Daniel learned about his mother's fighting style, including Taekwondo, Capoeira, and Savate, note  but never completed the training. Spending a total of three years in upper and lower Mistral, where Daniel learned from people and Huntsmen, he ended up falling into a fighting style bearing a resemblance to Bruce Lee.
  • Chick Magnet: Foretold. Whether due to his looks, charm, personality, humor, honor, or all of the above, Daniel is described as attractive by several women. Differing from most, he isn't dense when it comes to women's feelings, but his honest personality doesn't help when he speaks his mind, something which causes Daniel to attract a lot of attention. All his friends and teammates often described him as the "perfect womanizer" without trying, much to Weiss' dismay.
Willow: Thank you, Natalia. And I must say that your boy is a cutie himself.
Natalia: I know, right? He's going to grow into such a lady killer when he grows up.
  • Child Prodigy: Justified. Son of the strongest Atlesian Huntress and Huntsman, so people held high expectations for Daniel earlier on. He might have been a troublemaker Primary Combat School, but his performance and academics were superior to other students. Further shown as he acted as an assistant to Pietro Polendina, a well-respected Atlesian scientist during his time in Primary Combat School, impressing the scientist with his mind and imagination. Alone, he could survive in Lower Mistral, where the worst of the worst went, gaining more experience than your average Huntsman-in-Training.
  • Combat Pragmatist:
  • Combo Platter Powers: Theoretical. Because of his grandfather, Gerard, Daniel's inherited Semblance, Runes has the potential to be one of, if not, the most versatile Semblance on Remnant for the numerous effects it could produce.
  • Cool Sword: Retribution, a handcrafted greatsword doubling as a shotgun, could be loaded with Dust to add its elemental properties onto the blade.
  • Deadpan Snarker: If you know Daniel, whether you like, love, or hate him, then you'll know that he's almost incapable of not being sarcastic and making wisecracks and trash-talk in any given situation. Most people have attempted to shut him up, which no one has managed yet.
  • Genius Bruiser: Despite being known as a nonchalant and carefree fighter quick to beat the hell out of bad guys, but balances out and combines this by being smart as he is as good at fighting. Daniel surprises teachers and students with how smart he is, assisting his friends in their studies and even beating Leonardo Lionheart, one of the Headmasters of the Huntsman Academies and a member of Ozpin's Inner Circle in a game of chess.
  • Incompletely Trained: Daniel did train under his mother and father, however, due to her death and his seclusion, he never completed either of their training, even halfway.
  • Jack of All Trades: Three years alone in Mistral, with an inept caretaker, Daniel took on multiple odd jobs to earn money and pass the time, being skilled at things such as cooking delicious meals and general carpeting.
  • Lightning Bruiser:
  • Magic Enhancement: The Norden Family has an inherited Semblance, which allows them to also create "Enchantments" for multiple purposes to add or improve whatever they're placed on. However, Daniel is still learning about the ins and outs of them, and thus Runes, being capable of creating "half-assed Enchantments", which are incapable of matching that of real ones.
  • Magic Knight: Subverted. Daniel fights using his Semblance and Dust, which is combined with Sword and Gun, allowing him to expand the amount of which he could accomplish in combat, whether offense or defense, which isn't real Magic.
  • Magical Eye: Legend states that people with silver eyes are destined to be the best warriors, able to kill Grimm with a glance.
  • Mix-and-Match Weapon: Retribution is a mixture of a greatsword and a shotgun, capable of functioning as both.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: Daniel has shown himself to be capable of overpowering someone such as Cardin, who is taller and has a more muscular build. It is noted that he has a well-built physique from conditioning himself, but not to the point of not being viewed as a handsome teen.
  • Mythical Motifs: Daniel alludes to Vidar, the God of Vengeance from Norse Mythology, who was said to have grown to adulthood in a single day and was born to avenge Baldur and is prophesied to survive Ragnarök. As a nod to this, Daniel wants to avenge the death of his uncle and mother, in addition to surviving a ruthless attack that should have killed him. An additional nod is that Daniel has to "grow up" and undergoes numerous experiences in Mistral for three years to prepare himself.
  • Parental Abandonment: His mother, Natalia died when Daniel was 10 and this pretty much left him without paternal support as his father became a recluse afterward, then Richard left when he was 13 after someone tried murdering Daniel and hasn't heard from him in four years.
  • Parental Neglect: After his mother died, Daniel was almost left with all his father's usual household chores, while Richard was reclusive and unresponsive for almost three years until he left for real after Daniel turned 13 and was almost killed. This and the fact that he had to grow up without a mother or father until he became a teenager meant that Daniel had to get used to not having parental support.
  • Patchwork Kids: Daniel's appearance is a mix of his mother and father. He has his father's general facial structure, hair color, and short hair while having his mother's eye color and skin tone. Daniel is noted as also having the same kind of confident smile and general facial expressions as his mother whenever agitated, annoyed, mad, and downright aggressive.
  • Power Incontinence: Though Daniel has one of the most versatile Semblances, it's rather difficult to master, requiring all 24 runes, training, and learning about their meanings and effects to be used to the fullest.
  • Recoil Boost: Daniel can use the recoil from Retribution's shotgun as a means of boosting the strength of his swings, enough to decapitate a giant Grimm with a thick and durable neck.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge:
  • Runic Magic: His inherited Semblance, Runes can create up to a total of 24 different runes, each having its meaning and effect. If arranged in a specific order, then their meanings and effects change to something else. Despite being quite versatile, no different from Glyphs, Runes is proven to be a difficult-to-master Semblance, which has several steps.
  • Shirtless Scene: Daniel has been found shirtless on two occasions, one of them being when getting dressed and his partner, Hunter finds out about his healed scars. Yeah, in Chapter 20: A Belladonna's Thoughts, and after the duo of Bumblebee finds Daniel alone in their dorm's student lounge, the blonde brawler admires the unhindered view.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Harmless turned Hostile. Both Daniel and Adam might not have gotten along like most siblings, well, some brothers do fight and argue, which was pretty much their entire brotherly interaction. But, the two did often have genuine spar against each other. Joining the White Fang when it was still peaceful was one thing, but turning into someone who adhered to it when it turned violet and radical caused a rift in their relationship as brothers.
  • Strong and Skilled: Daniel became stronger than most students at Atlas' Primary Combat School due to the rigorous training from his partners, but never completed half their intended regimen, as a result of familial circumstances. He couldn't complete combat school, taking time off at 13, and then officially leaving at 14. Instead of an official school, Daniel spent the last three years training and gaining real-life experience in Lower Mistral against assassins, criminals, rogue Huntsman, etc.. He is an exception on his team, having high physical ability, strong Aura, Semblance, fighting skill, and weapons, makes Daniel one of Beacon Academy's most exceptional students.
  • Talented, but Trained: Daniel has been recognized as having the most potential among his three cousins, although, he believes they're as good as him. But, he has the belief that being talented doesn't make someone great, instead training and working hard could make someone far greater than those who don't.
  • The Engineer: A talented and skilled engineer and craftsman, Daniel is someone who aided in converting Team DUSK's beds into bunk beds.
  • The Leader: He is appointed as the leader of Team DUSK by Ozpin, despite going against his initial intentions, but was cursed with being experienced in certain tense situations. Despite being almost alone for three years in Mistral, Daniel adapted well as a leader and wanted the best for his team, who learned to trust him.
  • The Strategist: Daniel is the leader and strategist of Team DUSK, someone who comes up with the team's plans, strategies, and counters. He is well aware of his friends' abilities and formulates plans that use them to the fullest, which is due to his own real-life experience in combat.
  • The Smart Guy: Daniel is regarded as the smartest person in Team DUSK and their friend group in general.
  • Training from Hell: Self-imposed. Being beaten near dead, Daniel had to undergo rehabilitation for a year to return to top condition. Surprising enough, the doctors believed Daniel would need two years rather than almost a year considering how severe he was beaten. Following the next three years in Mistral, he continued training himself until he gained what Yang described as a "sculpted body" and Alyssa almost described Daniel as a "workout machine".
  • You Wouldn't Like Me When I'm Angry!: Alright, seeing Daniel, casual and nonchalant is the definition of his personality. But, what also defines him is his care for his friends and family. He hasn't shown it yet, but a single threatening look from him, if his friend is being messed with, is enough to frighten a professional paparazzo and typical punk teenagers.

    Hunter Upson

Hunter Upson

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hunter_upson_face.png
Hunter Upson, the Silent Archer.

A Mistralian, Hunter was born the son of Alison Upson and Louise Blackwood, the former being a former hotel worker and the latter being regarded as one of the most dangerous mercenaries on Remnant. Named "Hunter" due to Louise's desire to groom his son into someone like him, teaching him about hunting Humans, Faunus, and Grimm. Not wanting to disappoint his mother or cause her pain, Hunter decided to become a Huntsman instead at Sanctum Academy.

His Semblance, Orion allows him to turn whatever he touches into a projectile, giving a discarded bottle cap the momentum of a bullet, enough to tilt a metal trashcan. As such, this works in conjunction with Hunter's arrows, altering their course and boosting their speed.

His main weapon of choice is the Mechanical Collapsible Recurve Bow (MCRB), Actaeon, in addition to carrying around a quiver which contains special-made arrows bearing the markings of deer antlers on them, most having Dust infused into them.

  • Hand Signals: Being mute, Hunter is proficient in sign language.
  • Long-Range Fighter: Assigned as the main long-ranged fighter on Team DUSK, aside from Daniel who uses a gun for long-ranged targets too. But, Hunter stands out in this regard as someone capable of pulling off a varied amount of shots.
  • Mythical Motifs: Hunter alludes to Acteon, a Greek Hero, and Archer, who after accidently witnessing Artemis bathing naked was transformed into a stag (deer), then attacked and eaten alive by his dogs. As a nod to this, Hunter is a Deer Faunus, a Hunter, and has a fear of dogs.
  • Silent Partner: Literal. Daniel is someone who talks the most, while Hunter is a mute unable to speak in the first place.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: In terms of handling bows and arrows and facing off against Grimm and other dangerous criminals, Hunter is as confident as Daniel and the others are. But, in terms of social situations, where his childhood friend, Pyrrha Nikos isn't involved, Hunter can seem to be a little awkward.
  • The Heart: Although some might think this is Daniel, Hunter is often more at the center of Team DUSK's dynamic, being the person who watches his teammates' backs in combat as and archer, as well as in general. It doesn't matter whether or not Hunter can speak, he soon became the Heart of Team DUSK.
  • The Quiet One: Literal. Hunter is unable to speak.
  • The Speechless: Due to the nerves of his vocal corps being fried, Hunter cannot speak, requiring him to learn sign language to communicate.
  • Utility Party Member: Hunter isn't the most skilled in direct combat, but instead focuses on supporting his allies using arrows and what he learned from his father, who happens to be one of the most dangerous mercenaries on Remnant.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Hunter isn't the strongest person around, but he makes up for this with sheer skills alone. It helps that he was the main sparring partner of Pyrrha Nikos, who is one of the strongest and most skilled students at both Sanctum and Beacon Academy. His Semblance, Orion allows him to turn whatever he touches into a projectile and control their path.

    Sandra Skye

Sandra Syke

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sandra_skye_face.png
Sandra Skye, the Red Lancer.

A Vacuan, Sandra is the daughter of Aoife Skye, the former leader of the Skye Tribe from Vacuo, living under a strict upbringing where she had to learn to survive and not have a friend the same age as herself. After being abandoned by her mother by the age of 8, she arrived at Oscuro Academy in Coquina at age 12, Sandra hardened herself and became afraid of being abandoned again, not letting people around her.

  • Go Mad from the Isolation: Starting as a kind, if not timid girl, after being abandoned by her mother and forced to survive in Vacuo alone for five years without anyone to talk to and forced to fight Grimm, Sandra turned into a hardened and stern person no different from her mother. Somewhere deep inside Sandra, she still wanted to be friends with Team DUSK and the others, but feared being abandoned again, which might have broken her.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: For the longest time, Sandra wanted nothing more than friends, to the point of drawing in the sand and pretending it was someone her age. Being born in Vacuo where survival-of-the-fittest is the most important thing didn't make that the best location. So, Sandra got used to being alone and became afraid of being abandoned again, even after meeting Team DUSK, RWBY, JNPR, and the others, she felt it was an impossible dream.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: Born into Vacuo and the Skye Tribe, Sandra grew up in a rather hostile and unloving environment, all she ever wanted was to be confident and strong to gain friends and her mother's love. After being abandoned, she hardened herself to become the daughter that her mother would want, almost turning into her mother. However, Sandra ended up losing her mother, and thus her reason to be strong aside from the Skye Tribe's ideals of survival. Ironic enough, her becoming her mother and fearing abandonment kept Sandra from gaining the friends she wanted. However, Sandra ended up steadily breaking free from her mother's influence after the Cockatrice tried to Mind Rape her, gaining the friends she wanted.
  • Javelin Thrower: During the Beacon Initiation, Sandra tossed her spear to "rescue" Alyssa from an attacking Grimm, being not afraid of throwing her main weapon.
  • Lady of War: A calm and composed combatant, she was someone who survived alone in Vacuo, where she fought Grimm earlier on. Armed with a red spear, Sandra handles the weapon with the amount of grace and finesse required, combined with her Semblance which makes her intangible.
  • Loner-Turned-Friend: Sandra came off as the longtime survivalist, no different from most Vacuans, and didn't want to hear things such as "team bonding" or "friendship". Starting with her mother abandoning her, living and traveling around in the desert for five years, and then her mother dying, thus having no other family in the world. But, after the Cockatrice's intended Mind Rape and The Power of Friendship, Sandra returned to the person she wanted to be and accepted everyone's friendship.
  • Meaningful Name: Sandra's name can mean "protector of man", which coincides with the purpose of Huntsmen. note
  • Mythical Motifs: Sandra alludes to Scáthach, a famous female warrior and martial artist of Irish mythology, who resided in the Isle of Skye, often called "The Shadow". A couple nods to this is her last name being Skye, her mother Aoife, which happened to be the name of Scathach's sister, and her Semblance making her untouchable.
  • Parental Abandonment: Sandra's mother left her alone in the harsh deserts of Vacuo to prove that she was her daughter.
  • Parental Neglect: Born in harsh conditions, where survival of the fittest isn't the best development for a child, in particular mental development for Sandra. She went through one of the worst, being forced to survive in Vacuo's harsh deserts alone as a harsh trivial from her mother and surviving the various Grimm that attacked her for the next five years.
  • Signature Instrument: If there's one thing that Sandra loves aside from her beloved spear, it's her prized guitar, which she would overact to if someone attempted to touch it. But, if that person happens to be Nora Valkyrie, then that's understandable.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: A non-villainous example. Sandra was an innocent child who wanted nothing more than her mother's love and friends, but this didn't happen in childhood as she was raised in the Skye Tribe, who strove to survive in the Vacuo desert. She remained like this until the time her mother decided to leave her to survive alone as a test at the age of 8, spending alone for five years surviving against Grimm turned the shy and innocent girl into a battle-hardened calm, and serious 12-year-old.

    Alyssa King

Alyssa King

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alyssa_king_face.png
Alyssa King, Little Miss Perfect.

Alyssa was born into the King Family, a Mistral Family who fought in the Great War and then began producing strong Huntsman. She, in particular, is the youngest of an older brother and cousins; the daughter of Arthur and Anwen King. Breaking the family rules, Alyssa enrolled in Signal Academy, receiving no support from her relatives. Despite this, Alyssa ended up with their inherited Semblance, Pendragon, one which hasn't appeared in the King Family for generations.

  • Black Sheep: In the King Family, the women are supposed to be women, not warriors, something which Alyssa didn't agree with. So, in deciding to pursue the Huntress career, she was pretty much disowned by her entire family, choosing to live in a makeshift room outside the house to escape from them.
Alyssa: A family where boys became fighters, and girls became wives. So, I, their youngest daughter and cousin wanted to become a Huntress after watching one of them fighting with a Grimm to save lives. You should have seen my relatives when I said that I wanted to become a Huntress too, and not a single person supported me. I was the black sheep who had wanted to break family traditions and fight. So, I went on training in preparation to join a combat school and become one even if I was told not to. I, of course, ended up doing it, but then my dad said that I would receive no support.
  • Dual Wielding: Her weapons, Gwyn Ddraig are dual fighting sticks.
  • Flying Brick: Alyssa is incapable of Flight, but because of her Semblance, Pendragon, she can gain Super-Strength, Super-Speed, Super-Toughness.
  • First Friend: Being treated as the "nonexistent daughter" often doesn't result in the friendliest child, something which Alyssa ended up being at first. It wasn't until she met and sparred against Yang Xiao Long during class, who had a similar Offense-based Semblance as her, who acknowledged her that she found her first true friend.
  • Knightin Shining Armor: Female version. Alyssa's main personality traits are being kind, noble, and compassionate, more so than anyone in the King Family. Despite the treatment her family puts her through, Alyssa could never find herself hating them and instead understand things from their perspective.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: She is noted as being the physically strongest among her team due to her Semblance, Pendragon, which grants Super-Strength and Super-Toughness.
  • Mythical Motifs: Alyssa alludes to King Arthur, the legendary King from Arthurian legends, but gender-bent. A nod to this is her being honest, trusting, modest, and good-hearted, being a "King" in the sense of it being her last name, and in a sense being "chosen" by inheriting the same Semblance, Pendragon, which is used by her great-great-grandfather during the Great War.
  • Sibling Rivalry: One-sided. Alyssa and Mordred. Born the daughter in the King Family, it was expected that Alyssa wouldn't become a Huntress, which didn't earn much of her older brother's attention. But, it wasn't until she gained the same renown Semblance passed that appeared three times in their family, that Mordred did whatever it took to ensure that Alyssa was aware of her place.
  • The Social Expert: A kind and non-antagonistic version. No different from Yang, Alyssa is a rather kind and sociable person capable of noticing the emotional changes in friends and knowing what to do in regards to making them feel better.
  • The Un-Favourite: After Alyssa didn't fall in line with their family tradition, it was decided that she wouldn't gain support, whether emotional or financial from her parents, who instead focused on supporting their oldest.

Kingdom of Atlas

The Kingdom of Atlas is located in the south of Solitas and to the north-east of the old Kingdom of Mantle.

Norden Family

One of the most powerful and respected families among Remnant, second to the Schnee Family, which controls the Schnee Dust Company.

    In General
  • Family Theme Naming: The family name, Norden means "north", coming from the fact that Gerald arrived in Atlas, one of the Four Kingdoms located in the north.
  • Bad Ass Family: Considered second to the Schnee Family in terms of wealth, but ranked first in terms of combat prowess and potential, Atlas considered them a family that shouldn't be taken lightly, being composed of various warriors.
  • At the Norden Family, whether as a Human or Faunus, then you'll become an official Battle Butler, Ninja Maid, and/or even a Combat Medic, receiving both the appropriate training and education to become these. In addition to the benefit of learning to unlock either their Aura or Semblance, whether or not this person happens to be an official Huntsmen. All in all, this is one of the reasons that the Norden Family is regarded as having the greatest and loyalist combat force.

    Gerald Norden

Gerald Norden

Gerald Norden is the father of David, Natalia, and Olivia Norden, the last survivor of the Main Family of the Nameless Tribe situated in Soltias, which broke apart because of a large-scale Grimm swarm that caused the surviving members to break apart. Escaping, he stumbled across an abandoned ruin where he found his favored weapon and began surviving alone. At age 17, he arrived at Atlas, where he met and befriended Nicholas Schnee, who aided him in acclimating to the new environment and becoming Huntsmen together.

  • Action Dad: Regarded as an amazing father and warrior, Gerald is someone who has never shied away from a fight and someone who isn't afraid to take whatever action follows his conscience.
  • Ancient Artifact: His main weapon, a spear was described as being one Gerald found in an ancient ruin, which he fell into after surviving an assault from Grimm.
  • Barbarian Hero: Subverted. Born and raised in the "Nameless Tribe", Gerald also inherited the Silver Eyes, something which made him "destined to be a warrior" more than ever. Gerald is strong and skilled, but he is far from being a typical barbarian, rather he is a known intellectual and author, publishing books popular among Remnant.
  • Barbarian Tribe: Subverted. Born and raised in the "Nameless Tribe", an ancient tribe regarded as proud warriors bearing runic designs, unafraid of death, and challenged the harshest conditions and strongest opponents possible, however, the tribe wasn't the typical barbarians that murder without a reason
  • Child Prodigy: Among the "Nameless Tribe", Gerald was considered to be an exceptional child, whether due to his Silver Eyes or general talent. Since the tribe's disbandment, he survived alone until he turned 18 and arrived in Atlas, earning himself a reputation as a powerful Huntsman.
  • Family Man: Gerald was a caring father and loving husband, caring about the wellbeing of his wife and children most of all.
  • First Friend: Gerald and Nicholas considered one another their first and closest friends, becoming kindred spirits due to the similar natures of their Semblances, which resonate with and amplify one another. Both would come to the aid of the other if requested and stand side-by-side in combat against Grimm.
  • Magic Enhancement:
  • Magic Knight: Somewhat Subverted. He fights using his Semblance and Artifact, one of which is noted as having some connection to Magic, whereas the other does have magical powers.
  • Magical Eye: Legend states that people with silver eyes are destined to be the best warriors, able to kill Grimm with a glance.
  • Mythical Motifs: Gerald alludes to Odin, the revered Norse God, who is noted as having fathered multiple powerful and famous gods.
  • The Patriarch: The founder of the Norden Family, having first found his way to Atlas at the age of 17.
  • Runic Magic: The current originator of the Semblance, Runes among the Norden Family, being the sole survivor of the Nameless Tribe's Main Family which it originated from. As such, Gerald can create and control up to 24 different runes, all of which have been mastered in his teens and honed as a Huntsman until his retirement.

Team NOIR

Considered to be the "best and worst team" to have graduated from Atlas Academy, led by the second daughter of Gerard, Natalia Norden. Each of them is considered to be a role model for the Atlesian Huntsmen-in-training.

    In General
  • The Team: Team NOIR is described as being the "best and worst team" to have ever graduated from Atlas Academy. Being the best in the fact that this team has the best record among other Atlesian teams, worse in the fact this team rarely followed the rules. There are different reasons, their strength and skill, their training, and most of all their almost impeccable coordination together.
  • Force and Finesse: Natalia and Richard, the former is the hot-blooded striker with her armored boots, whereas the latter is the level-headed finesser with his katana.
  • Team Spirit: Among the teams formed in the Huntsmen Academies, Team NOIR is noted as being the most close-knit group among them.
  • True Companions: Despite their rough start, the members of Team NOIR soon became true friends and teammates, all of whom have gone through the worst missions together.

    Natalia Norden

Natalia Norden

The second daughter of Gerald Norden, the older twin sister of Olivia Norden, and the younger sister of David Norden. Leader of Team NOIR and partner/lover of Richard Fenris, she is noted as being an inspiration for Huntress-in-training, in particular, Winter Schnee, who considers Natalia her idol.

  • Action Mom: Natalia is regarded as the strongest Huntress in Atlas, in title and fact, which didn't change after having Daniel.
  • Badass Teacher: She might not be an official teacher at Atlas Academy, instead focusing most on being a Huntress, but aside from her beloved son, Daniel, Natalia also acted as Winter Schnee's teacher and role model.
  • Cool Teacher: Again, not an official teacher, but Winter was sure lucky to be Natalia's first student before Daniel was born.
  • Invincible Hero: In both name and fact, Natalia is viewed as Atlas' Strongest Huntress, which was proven as she rescued the students of Haven Academy from a large-scale Grimm invasion... and no one knows what happened aside from the fact that a massive flash of silver light was seen from the distance.
  • Kick Chick: If there's anything that Natalia loves more than her family and son, it's kicking people, villains, and Grimm whenever the situation calls for it. Her particular fighting style is a combination of Taekwondo, Capoeira, and Savate, something which Natalia mastered, to the point where those on the receiving end regret fighting her.
  • Mama Bear: If someone attempts to do anything to her beloved son, Daniel, then there's a chance that Natalia is in the same area and would show the true definition of the reason she is called the "Strongest".
  • Mythical Motifs: She is a gender-bent version of Vidar, the Norse God of Vengeance, who was said to have fought against and slain the monstrous god-devouring wolf, Fenrir.
  • The Paragon: Natalia is a role model for all the Huntresses of Atlas Academy, being someone all of them strove to become in terms of confidence and abilities.

Issac Warin

He is a member of Team NOIR and the partner of Olivia Norden.

    Richard Fenris

Richard Fenris

He is a member of Team NOIR, the partner/lover of Natalia Norden, a Wolf Faunus, and the father of Daniel Norden and Adam Taurus.

  • Action Dad: Implied. Not much has been revealed about Richard as a father, aside from his attentiveness as a trainer. But, after his youngest son was attacked by an unknown assailant, he vanished the same night, some say in pursuit of the person responsible.
  • Breath Weapon: As a byproduct of his Semblance, after consuming Dust, Richard can unleash an elemental breath.
  • Cannibalism Superpower: His Semblance, Devourer, is similar to his oldest son's, the main difference behind that it lets him 'consume' energy instead of using an external medium to achieve this.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He is someone who has been called the "Beast of Mantle", wears black clothes, has a Semblence that requires him to eat energy, and is the First Wolf, a vigilante who is feared around Lower Mantle. But, that doesn't mean that Richard is an evil man.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: His main weapon is a katana.
  • My Dad Can Beat Up Your Dad: If you're dad is referred to as the Strongest Huntsman in Atlas, then is there any other dad in their neighborhood who could beat him?
  • Mythical Motifs: Richard is based on Fenrir, the monstrous god-devouring wolf from Norse Mythology who was said to have killed Odin, causing him to be killed by Vidar.
  • Papa Wolf: Literal. Richard is a Wolf Faunus and a father of two sons. Despite his serious looks, he is a caring father and trained his sons, but multiple circumstances have kept him from doing what he wanted to do concerning being a father and husband.
  • Power Copying: His Semblance provides a safer method of Dust Infusion, as instead of injecting himself with Dust, Richard can both consume and safely metabolize the destructive and otherwise unstable elemental power stored in Dust without harming himself.
  • Required Secondary Powers: To use Dust, Richard is required to "eat" Dust instead of injecting it into himself, which could be viewed as a more dangerous method. However, because of the nature of his Semblance, he can do it without negative effects.
  • The Assimilator:
  • Wolf Man: Literal. A Wolf-type Faunus.
