Team D

     Aoi Hidaka

Aoi Hidaka (飛鷹 葵 ひだか あおい)

Voiced by: Haruna Ikezawa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aoi_hidaka.jpg
  • Ace Pilot: Aoi skills as a Formula 01 ace translated very well into her piloting skills as Dancouga Nova's main pilot.
  • Action Girl: Not as much as Kurara, but she still has some fighting skills and knows her way around a gun.
  • Badass Driver: Before she became a pilot for Dancougar Nova, Aoi was an undefeated Formula 01 champion.
  • Celebrity Masquerade: She's famous as both a Formula 01 racer and as a successful model, while secretly being the pilot of the world's most infamous Humongous Mecha. The stress of trying to fit all three in her life become so much she eventually quits being a racer.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Aoi has red eyes to match her red hair.
  • Designer Babies: The source of much personal anguish for her. It is quite heavily implied that Aoi was born this way, which cause her to grown-up feeling unwanted. Indeed, on the outside Aoi is the perfect girl - she's sexy, an absolute badass (c'mon, when was a woman behind the wheels of a frikkin Formula?!) and is implied to be absurdly multitalented. On the inside however... well let's say she was a bit of a Broken Bird. Later on it's revealed that her life as a model and a Formula 01 racer were attempts at wanting to feel loved by people.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: Sammy did flirt with her a bit.
  • Fiery Redhead: While Aoi is usually rather cool, when she becomes pissed off she's by far the most Hot-Blooded character in the show.
  • Hair Color Dissonance: Her hair is said to be red, but viewers would be inclined to say it's pink.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: Aoi is extremely attractive and this is noticed by many In-Universe, especially her racing crew. She even works as model as a side gig.
  • The Heroine: She is The Protagonist of the story, with her character arc having the most spotlight and she's also the main pilot of Dancouga Nova.
  • Hot-Blooded: She's snarky, passionate about racing, tends to mouth off those around her, and is willing to punch out Cthulu.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She is really easy on the eyes, is fairly buxom and often wears outfits that show Navel-Deep Neckline or midsection. Not to mention how she, in her own words, sleeps in her "original".
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: Many of her outfits show this, especially in the artwork.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Aoi usually wears sporty clothes around the base, so the boys forget she's a model until they see her in a fancy dress for Fog Sweeper's party.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Don't try to break Aoi with talking. You'll get a fist to the face for your trouble.

     Sakuya Kamon

Sakuya Kamon (加門 朔哉 かもん さくや)

Voiced by: Tatsuhisa Suzuki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sakuya_kamon.jpg
  • Catchphrase: See Shout-Out, below.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Sakuya acts like a goofy and dumb homeless guy most of the time, but there are several moments he's show to be much smarter than he looks, such as when he hacks into the Dragon's Hive computer to find out more about their recruitment.
  • Homeless Hero: Seems to be homeless by choice, as he's a carefree guy that enjoys freedom.
  • Hot-Blooded: The most out of the Nova pilots.
  • Lazy Bum: He often seen relaxing and doesn't like working.
  • The Load: He start's to feel like one, since his Nova Rhino doesn't have any weapon once he combines into Dancouga Nova. At least until Sammy gets him a Rocket Punch.
  • Mysterious Past: In spite of his personality, he's arguably the most mysterious member of Team D. He's shown to be a skilled hacker and knowledgeable on things you wouldn't expect a Homeless Hero to be interested in. There's also the fact that the whole reason he chose to be homeless in the first place is because he wanted freedom and solitude. The only hint towards his past in the last episode, where he states that he was so wanted that it was smothering.
  • Ship Tease: With Isabelle near the end of the story, as she develop feelings for him after he rescued her.
  • Shout-Out: He's the one who borrows Shinobu's Catchphrase "Yatte yaru ze!"

     Kurara Tachibana

Kurara Tachibana (館華 くらら たちばな くらら)

Voiced by: Houko Kuwashima

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kurara_tachibana.jpg
  • Action Girl: Easily the most capable fighter in the team.
  • Badass Adorable: A badass Super Cop, but you wouldn't be able to tell it by her cute appearance.
  • Badass Back: A Running Gag has her destroying enemies behind her mech, then saying "Don't stand behind me" or some variant
  • Cute Bruiser: The youngest of the pilots, extremely Moe, and an excellent shot!
  • For Great Justice: She had a rough childhood growing up in crime heavy area, and her desire for justice is what drove her to become a cop.
  • The Gunslinger: She handles the guns both in and outside the mech.
  • Improbable Age: Became a world-renowned police gents at the age of 15.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: She's an experiment marksman, being able to shoot guns out of people's hands without harming them.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Verbally burns the Jerkass Amerian captain of Episode 4 before handing him his ass.
  • Super Cop: When she was 15 years old, she cleaned up the corrupt narcotics division of the police department single-handedly.
  • Trash of the Titans: Kurara's room is extremely messy and she's very embarrassed when the Dragon's Give replicates it, including its messiness. Aoi snarks it reminds her more of a cellar than a room.

     Johnny Barnett

Johnny Barnett (ジョニー・バーネット)

Voiced by: Yuuki Tai

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/johnny_barnett.jpg
  • Badass Bookworm: Spends most of his free time reading magazines, and while he's not a good fighter on his own, but on his Elephant Nova he's likely the team's deadliest pilot.
  • The Everyman: Unlike the rest of his team, Johnny was just an average guy with an average job before being chosen to pilot Dancouga Nova.
  • Love at First Sight: Falls for Ada the first time he sees her in person.
  • Non-Action Guy: Johnny is deadly piloting his mech, but physically he has no fighting skills whatsoever.
  • Running Gag: That "insert something here" is not included in the latest issue of Men's Magazine about "insert subject here". EVERY. SINGLE. EPISODE.
  • Salaryman: Used to work as one, a Running Gag being him mentioning the monotony of the life of a Salaryman.
  • The Stoic: He's reserved and is the least prone to showing his emotions of the group.
  • Stoic Spectacles: Has a pair of spectacles to go with his The Stoic demeanor.
  • Token White: He is the only blonde Caucasian on the team while the rest are Japanese.

  • Berserk Button: Riruri is usually very calm and serene, but becomes pissed when people mispronounce her name.

  • Girlish Pigtails: In her idol persona. She wears her hair down or has in her helmet when she's piloting.
  • Idol Singer: She's an extremely popular idol even outside Japan.
  • Good Costume Switch: Goes from being pale and sickly looking with dark lipstick to a regular complexion when she turns good. Her helmet also goes from being a Scary Shiny Visor to showing her eyes, and she goes from being monotone and robotic to her usual personality. Oddly its never explained why she suddenly looked like that as a villain as she looked normal in her civilian persona.

  • Big Bad: He's the main threat Dancouga Nova was formed to destroy.

  • Humans Are Bastards: He's absolutely convinced of this.
  • Kill All Humans: His ultimate objective. He believes he's doing the universe a favor by purging humanity.
  • Large Ham: Despite being an AI, he's extremely hammy. Given who h's voiced by it's no surprise.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: To Aoi, telling her that humans upset the balance of the universe and pointlessly cling to their own "pathetic little lives". It fails. Spectacularly.
  • Shut Up, Kirk!: To his good counterpart Earth Will, when it tries to convince him of humanity's worth.
