The Party

    Derek

Derek

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/derek_8.png

Played by: Saltydkdan

"You either die a winner or die a loser, it's your choice."

The Protagonist of the story; soon after moving to Littleroot Town, he sets out on a Pokémon journey, in the process encountering and capturing some rather strange Pokémon. Regularly acts as the The Leader, while just as often engaging in the same antics as his team.

  • All Men Are Perverts: Makes some rather suggestive comments regarding Porygon or gym leaders, wants to steal the clothes of and kiss trainers he beats, and moans suggestively at a gif of a pufferfish moaning.
  • Archnemesis Dad: Has no positive interactions with his father throughout the series.
  • Bad Boss: Besides sending his team out in battles, he doesn't take particularly good care of them, acknowledging he'd have zero issue trading them away and doesn't feed them often either.
  • Big Brother Bully: Does not get along with his younger step-brother, Wally.
  • Born Unlucky: Season 2's randomized encounters are not kind to him and his team, between having to pick between three starters that can't attack, getting Low-Tier Letdown Pokemon like Kriketune or another Illumise, and having several actually good encounters be far worse than others on the same route, like getting a Lampent in the same area where Dragonite and Togekiss were.
Mikeydeez*: Derek, what is up with your luck!? You suck!
  • Butt-Monkey: Just because he's The Leader or The Protagonist doesn't mean he's immune to some verbal backlash from his Pokemon.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Derek's embarrassing fight with Steven was not shown in Season 1. It was alluded to throughout Season 2, until he finally reveals what happened after his fight with the Elite Four and killing Chatquaza in the leadup to Unova's Elite Four.
  • Classical Anti-Hero: A morally lacking, aggressive trainer who doesn't treat his team with any respect and regularly kills wild Pokémon to train up his team who just happens to be the main character.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: For his many, many faults, he's a fairly decent trainer.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Genuinely is horrified to learn that Ken thinks Team Rocket are good guys.
    • Finds himself disturbed at the implications surrounding Wattson and his gym.
Derek: "Yo, this old man just gave me his phone number unprompted. I'm gonna walk away now."
    • Is pretty disturbed when he learns Oni has been teaching Chrissy some less than appropriate information through the internet.
    Derek: "Oni, dude...The fuck?"
    • Is uncomfortable when Team Aqua's Archie strips for him after their battle.
  • Fatal Flaw: His hubris. Again and again in the series, Derek’s pride gets the best of him and has disastrous consequences for him and his friends.
    Derek: ”I got a bit…too cocky.”
  • Heroic Comedic Sociopath:
    • Has absolutely no issue killing Pokémon to help his team level up, or with murdering their families in front of them for that matter!
    • Also has zero issue trading his Pokémon away, in spite of knowing they're sentient.
  • Hidden Depths: Is able to do an oddly impressive Barack Obama impression.
  • I See Dead People: The ghosts on his team aside, in Season 2, Derek begins to hear the voices of Kenny and Auntie Sandslash when travelling around the Celestial Tower, and considering he hears them a little more afterwards in Stream 4 after Derek leaves the tower in fear, it may be permanent.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's not a particularly nice trainer, especially to his team, but he occasionally joins in on their antics and has moments of caring about them when things get serious.
  • The Leader: Acts as the team's trainer, being in charge of where they go, when they train, who they fight, etc.
  • Rich Sibling, Poor Sibling: The poor sibling to Wally's rich, having to regularly pester Norman for alimony.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Is able to understand and have legitimate conversations with his Pokémon. Since no one else really talks to them, it is implied Derek is the only one who can understand them while the rest of the world just hears Animal Talk.
  • The Protagonist: The main character of the series, on account of being the team's Pokémon trainer.
  • Team Dad: Outside of leading the team in battle, he also leads by example...Which sort of explains why his team is such a mess half the time.
  • The Unfavorite: Norman clearly prefers his new son, Wally, over Derek.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Downplayed as it's technically his Pokémon fighting the child's Pokémon, but he still holds nothing back in battle and shows little if any remorse.
    Peppy

Played by: Saltydkdan

The Protagonist of Friendlocke Violet. A trainer from Paldea.

The Pokémon

    In General

Derek's Pokémon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ef98d81f_ec45_4720_b071_f58350a303e4.jpeg
Derek's Pokémon!Click to expand.
Derek: "We have a very interesting and colorful cast of characters."

A group of Pokémon recruited by Derek to take on the Gym Leaders, Elite Four, and Champions of various regions.

  • Actor Allusion: Official art depicts them as their species, with a few additional features to help them stand out.
  • Author Avatar: Each of them represent a different person in Salty's circle of friends, while CHATFORM/CHURMY represents Twitch chat as a whole.
  • Badass Crew: While most of them don't take their situation seriously and some of them aren't even that great in a fight, Derek's Pokémon are not to taken lightly. They can manage to take down Pokémon League trainers, criminal organizations, and even legendary beasts!
  • Berserk Button: Absolutely no one was happy in character with Derek murdering Collin, with several of his team threatening to kill him or do other bodily harm over it
  • Butt-Monkey: Even outside of regularly getting the crap kicked out of them in Pokémon battles, the team is regularly picked on by not just Derek, but each other! The only exception ends up being Monsters, who basically never deals with any sort of real struggle throughout the series.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Just about all of them are quite blunt and sarcastic to some degree.
  • Death Is Cheap: A rule is implemented early on that states that should more than three Pokémon be dead after completing four gyms, one of them will get reincarnated into a new Pokémon, allowing up to two potential ressurections. This ultimately saves Gerber, who is resurrected following the team defeating Juan.
  • Disposing of a Body: Whenever a team member falls in combat, their body is brought back to the Pokémon center in order to be properly "released".
  • Dwindling Party: As the adventure goes on in each region, some Pokémon fall along the way.
    • Season One has a grand total of 19 Pokémon on the team. After the deaths of Tracey, Pastey, Gerber (temporarily), CHATFORM, Red, Jae, Chrissy, Collin, Forrest, and Mikey, only 10 remained.
    • Season Two goes even further, taking the party member count go from 24 to 6.
    • Season Three eases up a bit on the losses, but the party is reduced from 21 to 9.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Gerber, Pastey, Red, and Mikey all made several appearances on the channel prior to the series.
  • Family Extermination: Played for Laughs; Derek and Tracey kill Gerber and Sara's families soon after catching them. They're understandably horrified, at least until they encounter family they dislike.
  • Late Character Syndrome: In Season 1, Gabi and CHATFORM aren't recruited until episode #4, and Jae isn't recruited until the final episode; while Gabi is able to quickly find a place on the team, CHATFORM and Jae are very far behind and lack much of the experience and moves that their team members have, leaving them largely inadequate for the late game. Generally Averted with the following two seasons, as the late-joining friends all end up serving their teams well.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: Derek put together a Champion-level team consisting of some random dogs, a mushroom with long legs, a cowboy, Borat, a robot, Jigsaw, and many other bizarre personalities.
    • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Key word from above: Champion-level. Bizarre as they may be, they have beaten the Gym Challenge for two different regions. Along with taking down villainous organizations!
  • Same Character, But Different: Following season #1, the cast returns in various forms in the following season...As completely different characters that just share the same name. This is Lampshaded a handful of times, but for the most part is largely ignored.
  • Seinfeldian Conversation: While training, the team regularly has conversations completely unrelated to the situation, such as which Pokémon they'd have preferred to be, or how hummingbirds are able to sleep.
  • Squad Nickname: The Unova group uses the team name "Team White Boys".
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Fast food, namely McDonald's and Taco Bell.
    • Berries.
  • Willfully Weak: Several times throughout the playthrough, some of the party members will outright refuse to evolve, either out of spite for Derek, wanting to challenge themselves, or general laziness.
    • This actually comes back to bite some of them, being the primary reason for both Pastey and Jae dying.

Debuted during Season #1

    Tracey

Tracey

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tracey_7.png

Played by: TraceyTonight

Species: Mudkip, Marshtomp (S1); Altaria (S2)

S1 Debut: Stream #1; Episode #1

S2 Debut: Stream #3; Episode #3

"O-Oh! W-Where am I? W-Who are you?!"

General Tropes:

  • The Bus Came Back: Tracey was intending on making it so that her Season 2 persona was the same as her Season 1 persona. Though this idea was only properly revealed after the lore ended, if she had established it earlier, she would have been the only person participating in a Friendlocke (besides Derek of course) to have one of their characters return for another season instead of using a new one.

Season #1 Tropes:

  • Ascended Extra: Goes from Derek's editor in his usual videos to one of the main characters in the series.
  • Captain Obvious: When she first gets turned into her 3D render.
Tracey: Hello! I'm in 3D now.
  • Decoy Protagonist: Becomes Derek's first Pokémon, and is a major powerhouse throughout the first half of the game, arguably being the team's strongest member. She's also the team's first casualty.
  • Foreshadowing: After a near-death experience at the hands of a Makuhita, it's brought up how nobody wants Tracey to be the first death. Then comes the end of episode #3...
  • Genki Girl: Has a lot of energy compared to the other girls in the cast, while also supplying plenty of optimism.
  • The Heart: Everyone on the team gets along pretty well with Tracey. Her death causes the team no end of anguish, having an impact on them for a good portion of the following episodes.
  • Iconic Item: Her gun.
  • Love Across Battlelines: Tracey ultimately falls in love with both Camerupt and Torkoal over the course of the team's battle with Flannery. Torkoal uses this to her advantage and murders Tracey moments after she confessed her love.
  • Mage Marksman: Never misses a shot with her watergun.
  • Messy Hair: Has curly, messy brunette hair.
  • Nervous Wreck: Is a bit of a mess when she first gets recruited to the party, stumbling over her words and having a hard time picking attacks to use. She gets better about it fairly quickly though.
  • Phoneaholic Teenager: Downplayed as her age is unknown, but she's the only member of the team to have a cell phone, and is usually on it when out of battles.
  • Sacrificial Lion: Despite her prominence in the first half of the series, she dies following a battle with Flannery, signaling that the journey is about to get a lot harder for the rest of the team.
  • Starter Mon: Acts as Salty's starter during his Hoenn journey.

Season #2 Tropes:

  • Court Jester: Introduced as a traveling jester.
  • Fauxshadowing: According to Tracey herself, she was intending on revealing that her Season 2 character was the same as her Season 1 character, but the reveal ended up happening after the lore finished. This was foreshadowed in Stream 4, where Tracey notes Brady (an Illumise, a Pokémon part of the team in Season 1) being familiar, as well as remembering Collin’s name from Season 1.
  • Non-Ironic Clown: Tracey shows no malice towards the group or any unsettling undertones. She's just a happy clown.
  • Wacky Sound Effect: Her cloud squeaks.

    Gerber

Gerber/Gerbicycle 2

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gerber_1.png

Played by: Gerbatron16

Species: Poochyena, Mightyena / Oddish, Gloom, Vileplume (S1); Magnezone (S2); Cyclizar (S3)

S1 Debut: Stream #1; Episode #1

S2 Debut: Stream #3; Episode #3

S3 Debut: Stream 4

"Derek, remember what I told you to name it! You gotta name it my full PayPal link!"

General Tropes:

Season #1 Tropes:

  • All Men Are Perverts: Between gyms, Gerber apparently made an appointment for, "Big Mommy Rental Service", a fact he quickly attempts to cover up to poor results.
  • Back from the Dead: After his death as a Mightyena, Gerber gets reincarnated as an Oddish that later evolved into a Vileplume.
  • The Chew Toy: Compared to everyone else, Gerber just can't seem to catch a break. Whether it be witnessing Derek kill his family after getting caught, almost getting killed by a Shroomish, Derek being more than willing to trade him away, and getting killed by May after an unlucky encounter with her Grovyle. Even after getting reincarnated into an Oddish, he still can't escape the mockery, as he's quickly pegged as useless due to being little more than a weed.
  • Color Blind Confusion: As a result of being...Well, a dog.
  • Hartman Hips: A rare male version, as he's apparently got a pretty fat ass...At least, for a dog that is.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: Always wanted to enter a Pokémon contest. The team enters one in his honor following his death.
  • Joke of the Butt: After Salty comments that Poochyena's tail in their spritework made them look like they had a fat ass, Gerber becomes the target of butt jokes for the entire first season.
  • Messy Hair: Has messy black hair.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Evolved offscreen into a Mightyena in the series-proper.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: With Mal, regularly exchanging insults back and forth with each other.
  • Suck Out the Poison: After he gets poisoned, the chat makes a comment about sucking the poison out of his ass. Derek says for him to bend over.
  • Victory by Endurance: Inverted; despite Gerber and Derek's best efforts, he's unable to handle May's constant attacks, eventually causing Gerber's body to give out.

Season #2 Tropes:

  • Childhood Friends: With Mal and Mikey.
  • Connected All Along: He reveals in Stream 4 that he’s related to Gabi from the first season.
  • Did They or Didn't They?: Got together with Joe. At some point....
  • Even Evil Has Standards: While he has no problem using Pokemon deaths for his Youtube videos, he still thinks it is not as bad as how intense Coach Cos is in battle.
  • Malicious Misnaming: Couldn't bother to say Sauerkraut's name correctly, calling them "Sushi" or "Sashimi".
  • Official Couple: With Sara.
  • Shipper on Deck: In the second to last stream, Gerber pulls Derek aside to tell him that he thinks N likes him and encourages Derek to ask the other trainer out. However, he immediately admits that he just wants it as content for his channel.
Derek: ”Are we really doing a yaoi subplot last minute?”
Gerber: ”You think I’d go that low? Yes, of course I would, it’s for a video.”
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: With Coach Cos. Gets a little more serious when he accidentally makes her only memento of her now diseased auntie disappear.
    • Also with Jay, as the two constantly bicker and even threaten each other's lives. Jay even spends his last moments sarcastically thanking Gerber for his death.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Fully admitted to using putting a Go-Pro on Sauerkraut and Coach Cos before they died and used the footage for a Youtube video.

Season #3 Tropes:

    Sara

Sara

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sara_7.png

Played by: SleepySaraBear

Species: Lotad, Lombre, Ludicolo (S1); Skuntank (S2) Lechonk, Oinkologne (S3)

S1 Debut: Stream #1; Episode #1

S2 Debut: Stream #2; Episode #2

S3 Debut: Stream #1

"This is gonna sound super fucking weird, but like, I had a feeling I was gonna be Lotad, and I was really hoping I was Lotad, cause I like Lotad!"

General Tropes:

  • Sole Survivor: Sara, along with Monsters, is one of few members of the series not to have any of their characters die at all.
  • Those Two Girls: Her and Claire.
    • Downplayed in Season 2 as Sara and Claire are never in the party at the same time. And they won't get the chance to after Stream 3.

Season #1 Tropes:

  • Human Pack Mule: When Derek realizes her potential use as a baggage carrier due to her dish, he reduces her down to carrying all of his stuff around, including his keys and sodas.
  • Iconic Item: Her knitting tools.
  • The Load: An In-Universe example; Derek spends a majority of episode #1 criticizing her pacifism and not wanting to fight. By the end of the episode though, after evolving and taking down Roxanne, he ultimately takes it back.
  • The Noisy Straw: When absorbing HP from her enemies, she tends to make a loud slurping sound.
  • Non-Action Gal: Prefers staying out of combat, and despite being one of the longest-lasting party members, she ends up not getting used particularly often.
  • Piggyback Cute: She later also starts carrying Claire around, though she doesn't seem to mind this as much.
  • Potty Failure: As a result of a conversation with Derek about having not trained her.
Sara: I haven't even been pulled out in a battle yet.
Derek: You've been pulled out into a battle!
    Sara: I didn't fight anybody.
Derek: So, gonna cry? Piss your pants maybe?
    Sara: I already did...
Derek: You don't even have any pants!
  • Textile Work Is Feminine: Never seen without a pair of knitting needles and some twine. While not in battle, she's usually crocheting. She even attempted to use them as a weapon at one point.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Evolves near into a Lombre near the end of episode #1 after acting as a pacifist prior.

Season #2 Tropes:

  • And There Was Much Rejoicing: Seemed to take Gerber's death rather well.
Sara: Is that supposed to be a bad thing?
  • Official Couple: With Gerber.
  • Ship Tease: Shows some interest in Claire early on in the season. Unfortunately, Claire dies before she can do anything else.
    • Her feelings are ultimately confirmed once Derek informs her of Claire's death, with her outright saying she loved her, but she never got a chance to tell her that she did.
  • Shrinking Violet: Much more quiet and timid than the rest of the party.
  • Stronger Than They Look: Despite her soft tone of voice, Sara proves she's pretty decent in battle.

Season #3 Tropes:

  • Rage Breaking Point: All but screams at Gerbicycle 2 after his cooking during the Ryme fight kills everyone except them.
  • Sapient Eat Sapient: Sara heavily considers eating fellow team members, both out of hunger and annoyance.
  • Team Mom: Has adopted both Cookie and Puppie as her children, though most of her parenting consists of buying them iPads to watch sensory videos on.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Ends up being the angriest out of anyone after Mykyie and Gerbicycle 2 lead to their teammate's deaths.

    Mal

Mal / Malloree Bunny / Mall Bingo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mal_2.png

Played by: tea_bubbled

Species: Marill, Azumarill (S1); Lopunny (S2) Pawmi, Pawmo, Pawmot(S3)

S1 Debut: Stream #1; Episode #1

S2 Debut: Stream #1; Episode #1

S3 Debut: Stream #2

"Can I offer you an egg in this trying time?"

General Tropes:

  • Actor Allusion: Her being an Official Couple with Collin seems to stem from their relationship in real life.
  • Official Couple: In every season where she survives long enough to meet him, she ends up becoming this with Collin.

Season #1 Tropes:

  • Alternate Self: Every other wild Marill is just one of her time travel horcruxes.
  • Babies Ever After: Likely hatched her and Collin's egg post-series.
  • Balloon Belly: Enough of one that while she's a Marill, she wanted to use it as a Drum. Inverted following her evolving into Azumarill.
  • Eat Dirt, Cheap: Ate dirt at one point thanks to Derek not feeding the team.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Gets picked on fairly regularly by her teammates, especially Gerber, early on in the journey. It calms down following her evolution into Azumarill and her proving herself in several fights.
  • Odd Couple: with Collin, she's a lot more peppy then the depressed illumise though they both have quite a m ean streak at times.
  • Official Couple: With Collin.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: With Gerber, regularly exchanging insults back and forth with each other.
  • Someone to Remember Him By: Ultimately had an egg as a result of her and Collin's time at the daycare, something that is only discovered after his death.
Mal: I never got to tell him I had an egg!
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: The huge girl to Collin's tiny guy.
  • Timey-Wimey Ball: Mentioned a few times to be a time traveler leaving meany Horcruxes around but this is never really all that explained or elaborated on.
  • Wacky Sound Effect: Makes the sound a basketball makes if she hits the ground, and squeezing her tail causes it to squeak like a dog toy or like a clown honk.

Season #2 Tropes:

Season #3 Tropes:

  • Ship Tease: IMMEDIATELY becomes smitten with Grunpilo upon laying her eyes on him. She continues to flirt with him while he's in the party with her.
    • It gets to the point where Peppy flat out asks them to make out so they can get it over and done with - an action Mall decides to go for.
  • The Lost Lenore: Becomes this for Grumpilo after her death.

    Claire

Claire/Blorpoido

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/claire_00.png

Played by: CitisStreets

Species: Shroomish, Breloom (S1); Manectric (S2) Tinkatuff, Tinkaton (S3)

S1 Debut: Stream #1; Episode #1

S2 Debut: Stream #1; Episode #1

S3 Debut: Stream 5

"Have you ever eaten dirt?"

General Tropes

  • Deadpan Snarker: Usually when commenting on battles, she quickly becomes one of the most snarky members of an already very sarcastic cast.
    • Season 2 goes more into the deadpan part, as most of her delivery is serious and direct.
  • Those Two Girls: Her and Sara.
    • Downplayed in Season 2, as the two are never in the same place at the same time.

Season #1 Tropes

Season #2 Tropes:

  • Aloof Ally: Only acknowledges Derek and seems to care little about the other members of the team.
  • Berserk Button: After Stream 2, Fortnite and Among Us memes will result in agitated groans from Claire.
  • Desecrating the Dead: Immediately after her death, Joe and Derek put a Power Belt on her.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Inverted. Claire states that she does not see her allies as friends, but Jay firmly states the party sees her as one.
  • The Lost Lenore: Serves as one for Sara following her death.
  • Mean Character, Nice Actor: Claire is much nicer than her aloof Manectric character, to the point where she has to apologize for the things her character says.
  • Only Sane Man: While her colleagues go on and on about Among Us or Fortnite, she instead stresses how they should continue the plot.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Downplayed. After the first stream, her cold attitude is warmed a little, as she actually thanks Derek once he gives her a berry, but she's still distant from everyone but Derek. She's also more active in conversation, but still treats everybody harshly, refusing to joke around like her friends.

Season #3 Tropes:

  • Crafted from Animals: Her hammer is made out of corpses, one of which may be Mall Bingo. She won't give the bodies back.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: Dies in the middle of saying "goodbye" to her team.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: When asked for her name, she points out that naming pokemon is supposed to be the trainer's job, and never ends up giving her real name in-character.
  • Stereotypical Nerd: Suggested to be one by Joe and Gerbicycle 2. She responds by kicking Joe out of the party, making her the first friendlocke pokemon to switch out with a party member upon being caught. Later, she threatens to add Gerber to her hammer when he brings it up again.
  • The Stoic: Very much so.
    • Not So Stoic: She does, however, show positive emotions when it comes to cute things, like plushies and the dancing Greavard at Ryme's gym.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Is caught en route to Ryme's gym, and doesn't end up surviving past said gym.

    Joe

Joe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/joe_93.png

Played by: King__Moosh

Species: Whismur, Loudred, Exploud (S1); Lampent (S2) Smoliv, Dolliv, Arbolivia (S3)

S1 Debut: Stream #1; Episode #1

S2 Debut: Stream #1; Episode #1

S3 Debut: Stream #1

General Tropes:

  • The Big Guy: Was physically the largest and among the strongest members of Derek's season #1 team, though gradually loses the role to Mikey.
    • Ultimately takes the role back in season #2. While nowhere near as large, he's easily the most aggressive and hostile member of Derek's team and has to take on a far more offensive role in the early game due to Jay lacking in moves.
  • Blood Knight: Gets a lot of joy out of the battles he's placed in.
    • It gets to the point where when he learns that Derek completed Hoenn's Elite Four without him, in spite of him being planned as one of the fighters for it, he's left disappointed and sad at the result.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: In-character, Joe has a different excuse every season for how he's getting information he's looking up online or getting from friends that aren't currently in the call. As a Lampent, it's lampshaded as his connection to the spirit world, while as a Smoliv, he's talking to Mother Nature.

Season #1 Tropes:

  • Back from the Dead: Gets resurrected as a Whismur after the Wurmple incident.
  • Big Fun: A jolly, if loud, member of the team, and easily the largest in terms of sheer size.
  • Character Death: When they realize he couldn't be a Wurmple, he's crushed to death beneath the substitute Sara had been knitting prior. He's Back from the Dead not too long after, getting resurrected as a Whismur.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: First introduced as a Wurmple, only for the party to discover they had broken the rules and he was caught on the same route as Claire. The next time we see him, he's now a Whismur.
  • Gasshole: As a Whismur, with Derek's explanation being that whenever his butt popped up over his health, he was letting out a fart. Upon evolving into Loudred, however, this evolved into becoming a walking Wi-Fi signal.
  • Iconic Item: His crown.
  • Monster Roommate: Used to be Derek's roommate.
  • Near-Death Experience: Finds himself Shadow-Tagged and Destiny-Bonded in a fight against a Wobbuffet, which also has Counter; the second he gets into the predicament, just about everyone on the team thinks he's screwed. He only gets out of the fight alive through a mixture of luck and the Destiny Bond expiring.
  • Sweet Tooth: Prior to episode #3, he apparently ate a lot of 3 Musketeers chocolate bars, to a point where he physically looks hyped up on sugar.

Season #2 Tropes:

  • Dead Person Conversation: Is able to hear and commune with the Spirits of the Beyond, who tends to give him and the rest of the party helpful tips.
  • Did They or Didn't They?: According to Gerber, yes.
  • Friendly Ghost: Acts relatively amicable to the rest of the team, and just so happens to be a ghost.
  • I See Dead People: Is able to clearly see other fallen Pokémon.
  • Not Afraid to Die: Mainly because he has already died before in order to become a ghost in the first place. By the time it happened, he seemed more angry than anything.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: Despite technically being dead, he can still feel pain. He can also die as a ghost, in which he is considered as dead as the other fallen friends.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Due to his status as a lamp, you'd think he wouldn't be that strong. He goes on to prove otherwise multiple times, carrying Derek through the early game through sheer offense. It turns out later on he was also buffed up on levels due to holding a Lucky Egg.
  • Phoneaholic Teenager: Subverted: Joe may be a ghost, but he is a ghost with a smartphone that he always keeps near him.
  • Pyromaniac: Has no qualms igniting enemies, wild Pokémon, or even buildings with people inside them.
  • Robosexual: Has a video on Onlyfans with Gerber.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: While Derek and Jay mourn the deaths from the first Clay fight, Joe is the first one to call Derek out on his recklessness and actually ask him why he thought a smaller-than-usual team of underleveled Pokemon could stand a chance against an infamously difficult Gym leader.
Joe: I'm a ghost! I watched it happened! What. Was. The. Plan?!

Season #3 Tropes:

  • Didn't Think This Through: Joe sells olive oil for hundreds of dollars, but Paldea runs on a system of money similar to Yen where, assuming Joe is actually selling for a hundred Pokédollars a pop, they're not making a very big profit off of their scam. This is lampshaded by Derek, who says that most Paldeans are very boujee and Joe's practically handing their oil out for a few cents.
  • Easy Sex Change: Joe transitions into a girl almost instantly upon evolving into a Dolliv. They then transition to non-binary upon evolving to an Arbolivia.
  • Insistent Terminology: Inverted, as initially everybody refers to Joe's olive oil sales as a pyramid scheme before Joe explains that it's not a pyramid scheme because they're the only participant, and that it's just a normal scam.
  • Snake Oil Salesman: Often attempts to sell their own olive oil for exuberant prices.

Season #1 Tropes:

Season #2 Tropes:

  • The Big Guy: Slowly gets closer to this trope following his evolution and Joe's death.
  • Caring Gardener: Was able to grow enough flowers to give Derek a flower crown upon their introduction.
  • Never Given a Name: Never had a name before encountering Derek and friends. He eventually get named "Kringo Fuk."
  • Sweet Tooth: Enjoys eating Poptarts and slushies.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Has a very deep voice, despite starting as one of the smaller Pokémon.

Season #3 Tropes:

  • The Gambling Addict: Developed a crippling addiction to using Metronome, going as far as to challenge random wild Pokémon just to use it more. In later streams, he started imagining his Metronome usage as a gameshow called Do or Die.
  • Glorious Death: One of his primary motivations for using Metronome is because of the miniscule chance that it rolls a self-fainting move like Explosion or Final Gambit. He did not get his wish, instead dying from rolling Tackle and Growl in succession against Turo's Iron Moth.

Pastey

Played by: SanctoKlinge

Species: Electrike (S1); Ninetails (S2) Paldean Wooper, Clodsire (S3)

S1 Debut: Stream #2; Episode #2

S2 Debut: Stream #1; Episode #1

S3 Debut: Stream #1

"Put me in the fucking box already!"

General Tropes:

  • Early-Bird Cameo: Regularly appeared in Salty's videos prior to the series.
  • The Everyman: Downplayed, but his laziness and attitude problems aside, he's probably one of the team's more normal members. This becomes especially noticeable following his death in season #1, as Chrissy, Monsters, and the rest of the team fairly quickly start to drive Derek insane.
Derek: Everyone else was fucking normal! The normal people all got picked off so quickly, now all the weirdos are showing up!
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Has considerable attitude problems, especially in regards to treating much of anything with respect, and can be needlessly aggressive. Despite this, he gets along fine with the team for the most part and at least does manage to maintain some standards.
  • Lack of Empathy: Couldn't care less about anything that happens in battles, from his teammates getting hurt to the potential moral implications that come with fighting so many battles. Downplayed in that every once and a while, though, he will notice a particularly unreasonable or strange aspect to their journey and call it out.

Season #1 Tropes:

  • Asshole Victim: Downplayed and Played for Laughs; when he dies as a result of having not evolved, the team less so mourns him and more so is frustrated at how easily the situation could have been avoided had Pastey just taken the opportunity to evolve into a Manectric.
  • Demoted to Extra: Pastey is arguably Salty's most recurring guest in his normal videos, making regular appearances and being a main member of the cast of his, "Have You Heard About" series. Here, he doesn't get used all too often in battles and gets very little screentime compared to the rest of the main cast, before ultimately getting Killed Off for Real very early on in episode #4.
  • Desecrating the Dead: Following his death, Derek literally drags his body back to the center on a leash.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Played for Laughs; he is placed in the CUM Box for an extended period of time, something he was less than happy with.
  • Humans Are Not the Dominant Species: He certainly believes so, mainly seeing Derek as simply being his minion, despite having been recruited by him.
  • Iconic Item: His beanie.
  • The Slacker: Consistently seems completely uninterested in battling and training, to a point of not even wanting to evolve.
  • Tempting Fate: Declines the opportunity to evolve when given the chance, and when the team questions it, he just shrugs and says, "Maybe next time." He died not long after from an attack he would have survived, had he just evolved like the team wanted.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Rarely gets used in battles, doesn't get much screentime, and is the second team member to die.
  • Willfully Weak: Chooses not to evolve into Manectric. He dies shortly after.

Season #2 Tropes:

Season #3 Tropes:

    Collin

Collin / Callin / Grunpilo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/collin_8.png

Played by: AeroArtwork

Species: Illumise (S1) ; Palpitoad, Seismitoad (S2) ; Wiglett, Wugtrio (S3)

S1 Debut: Stream #2; Episode #2

S2 Debut: Stream #4; Episode #4

S3 Debut: Stream #3

"I just hate the fact that I saw you run into this Pokémon and the first thing I knew is, 'Yeah. I can feel it deep down in me. That's gonna be me.'"

General Tropes:

  • Butt-Monkey: Poor guy can't catch a break no matter the season. In Season 1, he is constantly insulted by Derek for not being a useful Pokémon, peaking at the finale when he sends Collin into the Elite Four by himself as "recon". Season 2 sees Bradydood actually prove himself despite also being an Illumise, which Callin expresses envy of, and dies to, of all people, Al Pachino and Adam Sandler just before the Elite 4. Season 3 has him end up as a Wugtrio and get bullied for his phallic appearance, and he dies to Atticus's Starmobile that was outstripped by him by thirteen levels, with no one really caring. To say nothing of Wugtrio later being considered the worst new Pokemon introduced in Paldea, even in casual playthroughs.

Season #1 Tropes:

  • Defiant to the End: Makes zero attempts to hide his utter contempt for Derek as a trainer. It hits its natural peak in his final fight, which he purposefully drags out to make Derek as miserable and annoyed as possible.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After an entire season of abuse at Derek's hands, Collin gets his revenge by dragging out the battle with Sidney as long as possible, delivering a "The Reason You Suck" Speech in the process.
    • Dying Moment of Awesome: However, he does ultimately die in the fight since Derek had no plans to leave the elite four until he died, but it's made clear that ultimately Collin got the last laugh between the two.
  • Iconic Item: His flat cap.
  • The Load: By all intents and purposes the weakest member of Derek's entire team. He's not even a very good HM slave, being incapable of learning half of the required ones.
  • The Lost Lenore: Serves as one for Mal following his death.
  • Odd Couple: With Mal, the azumarill is a lot peppier then he is, even if they both can have a bit of a cruel streak.
  • Official Couple: With Mal.
  • Smoking Is Cool: Always seen with a cigarette in his mouth.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: The tiny guy to Mal's huge girl.
  • Undignified Death: Despite Derek trying so hard to deliberately invoke this by using him as a "recon" (by way of giving him only one attacking move and being the only Pokémon in his party, and being underleved at that), Collin manages to outright subvert this by making one point perfectly clear that ultimately ensures he gets the last laugh, much to Derek's chargin:
"If you're gonna do this to me, I'm dragging this out as long as I can."

Season #2 Tropes:

Season #3 Tropes:

  • Accidental Misnaming: On the receiving end of this. While his real name is Collin, Peppy ends up calling him Grunpilo, as he was bawling his eyes out when Peppy asked for his name.
    • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Sure enough, the name Grunpilo ends up sticking, causing him to be referred to as such by Peppy and the rest of the team, despite telling everyone his real name.
  • Baritone of Strength: Both of Grunpilo's other two heads as Wugtrio have much deeper voices than him, said to be Markiplier and Corpse Husband.
  • Characterization Marches On: By the time of his second appearance, Grunpilo turned his life around off screen, having gone to therapy, quit smoking, and even got laid, making him much less of a crier.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Is rather unpopular among his teammates, Peppy included. Peppy regularly mocks him, and after he is killed by Atticus's Starmobile his teammates insist that he was a "coworker," not a friend, and that his death "isn't much of a loss."
  • No Mouth: It's pointed out by Peppy that this is the case with him. This briefly delays his and Mall's desire to kiss, but Mall ends up just kissing his nose instead.
  • Prone to Tears: Starts off like this. In fact, the first thing he does when caught is to start crying. However, by his second appearance, it ends up subverted.
  • Ship Tease: Appears to reciprocate Mall Bingo's feelings for him. He also more than willing to (attempt to) kiss her, and it's implied things went even further off stream.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Was killed by Atticus's Starmobile, when it was expected to be a Curb-Stomp Battle due to it being a whopping thirteen levels below him.
  • Visual Innuendo: Looks very phallic. A fact of which he is not at ALL happy about.

    Mikey

Mikey / Mikeydeez* / Mykyie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mikey_5.png

Played by: BinjoMonkey

Species: Geodude, Graveler (S1); Hitmonlee (S2) Mankey, Primeape, Annihilape (S3)

S1 Debut: Stream #3; Episode #3

S2 Debut: Stream #3; Episode #3

S3 Debut: Stream #2

"Bababooey."

General Tropes:

  • Blood Knight: Every Pokémon controlled by Mikey is very, very into fighting.
  • Calling Your Attacks: SIGNATURE KILL!!
  • Death by Irony:
    • Mikeydeez, despite swearing to avenge Joe after his death, winds up getting killed by Elite 4 Grimsley's Liepard, the EXACT same Pokemon species Joe died to much earlier. Furthering this is the lingering fear all season that he'd die from missing a Hi Jump Kick, but he dies after missing a Blaze Kick instead.
    • EVERYTHING about Mykyie's death had some layer of irony to it. He was killed in an optional battle before facing the Normal Type gym, a gym that he would have excelled at as a Fighting Type. Mikey wanted to be a Primeape so he could evolve into an Annihilape, an evolution that involves the death of the Pokemon, but he had a completely normal death in battle. Speaking of, had he been an Annihilape, he would have been immune to the Counter that killed him off as a Normal Type move. Finally, he was killed in his second stage evolution in a three evolution chain, much like Lark. Unlike Lark, had he not died where he did, he would have evolved anyway, as Derek reveals when he evolves him after the fight with Nemona... who he ALSO would have been fantastic against, given that Annihilape is super effective against her Skeledirge, who ends up killing Mall Bingo and Christene's too.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Appeared in a handful of Salty's videos prior to the series.
  • Iconic Item: His Kamina glasses, which he is depicted with in every incarnation he's had.
  • Large Ham: Practically screams half of what he says.
  • Running Gag:
    • Mikey’s death in every season is a result of his own actions.
    • All of the Pokémon he ended up as are from Generation One.
  • Team Killer: Kills CHATFORM and Lark. However, both instances are played with as CHATFORM was very dangerous to keep around, making it more of an Evil Versus Evil situation, and he killed Lark in the middle of his debut fight before he was caught, meaning they weren't teammates at the time, although he is regretful of what he did regardless.
  • Token Evil Teammate: To varying degrees per Season.
    • Mikey's bloodlust does not end at his enemies and he makes several comments about killing his own allies, and he manages to kill one of his teammates (albiet the one nobody likes, so nobody was particularly upset over it).
    • Mikeydeez is the least malevolent of the three, though he is a Kleptomaniac Hero who likes stealing people's hats.
    • Mykyie follows his first incarnation's example and kills one of his teammates, but this time it's the Starter Mon Lark, before he's even caught. After this, he's actually rather upset over having killed Lark, but not enough to give a good eulogy.

Season #1 Tropes:

  • Action Bomb: Learns Self-Destruct and Explosion. Uses the latter by the end of the series.
  • Aggressive Submissive: Generally among Derek's most abrasive and antagonistic party members, but also is rather uncomfortable with people looking at his "nips".
  • Alternate Self: Every other wild Geodude is just them.
  • Become a Real Boy: Wants to steal the skin of a trainer the group defeated and use it to become a human, much to Mal's disturbance.
  • The Big Guy: One of Derek's strongest Pokémon by a landslide, and also among the most aggressive members of the party.
  • Chekhov's Gag: Upon learning Self Destruct, a recurring gag throughout the season is him debating if he should use the move during battle, much to the horror of his teammates. He ends up using the move against CHATQUAZA, resulting in him instantly killing the creature.
  • Death Seeker: From the very beginning, his plan was to go out in a blaze of glory with an explosion. He gets his wish in the final battle against CHATQUAZA.
  • Dying Moment of Awesome: Uses Self-Destruct in the final battle, blowing himself up to take out CHATFORM once and for all.
  • Emotional Bruiser: Loud and confident, but also suffers from a handful of insecurities and tends to let his emotions get the better of him in moments of stress.
  • Go Out with a Smile: When he finally has the chance to use Self-Destruct, he goes out laughing and grinning in the process.
  • Taking You with Me: To CHATFORM.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: Uses Magnitude 10, the strongest level of the move, to kill CHATFORM.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Makes several comments about attacking other teammates (mostly Mal), admits he planned on killing the team before the Elite Four, and even murders CHATFORM. TWICE!
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Him using Self Destruct ends up as the catalyst for the events of season 2, causing global warming that would ultimately lead many of the Pokémon caught by Salty to their dooms.

Season #2 Tropes:

  • Badass Cape: Often depicted with a blue sparkling cape.
  • Childhood Friends: With Gerber and Mal.
  • Diving Kick: His Hi Jump Kick move, or as he calls it: SIGNATURE KILL: SHOOTING STAR KICK!!
  • Fearless Fool: Gleefully suggested an immediate Round 2 against Clay, despite knowing what happened during Round 1. It winds up getting him killed when he tries to avenge Joe in the final stream.
  • Gag Echo: Before he's sent to the box, he says "Bababooey", the same phrase Mikey says in Season 1 in the same situation.
  • Kleptomaniac Hero: Openly tries to steal clothing from other Trainers, most notably Clay's hat and Bianca's hat.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Took and wears Joe's crown after his death.

Season #3 Tropes:

    Jay

Jay/Jayyweed

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jay_8.png

Played by: JtasticVA

Species: Numel, Camerupt (S1); Igglybuff, Jigglypuff, Wigglytuff (S2) Bramblin, Brambleghast (S3)

S1 Debut: Stream #3; Episode #3

S2 Debut: Stream #1; Episode #1

S3 Debut: Stream 4

"Hey new friend! Am I worth a damn?"

General Tropes:

  • Deadpan Snarker: Arguably one of the snarkiest members of the cast as a whole.

Season #1 Tropes:

  • Closet Geek: Apparently enjoys anime shows like One Piece and Neo Yokio.
  • Cowboy: Spoke with an accent upon evolution.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: Inverted: Claire was the one talking, pointing out how the two never got the opportunity to talk...and never would again.
Claire: Jay I just realized this is the first time I've been in conversation with yo-goodbye.
  • Near-Death Experience: The first fight of the Team Magma hideout has Jay almost die at the hands of a Graveler.
  • Out of Focus: Despite debuting halfway into the season and appearing for a handful of important battles, Jay never gets a particularly huge chance to stand out amongst the cast.
  • Painful Transformation: Screamed during his evolution.
  • Put on a Bus: Or in his case, Put In The Box. After Jay evolves, he does not come back into the party again. Technically he does after the Elite Four, but it does not end well for him...
  • Sweet Tooth: Only joins the team after being promised a cookie.

Season #2 Tropes:

  • Ascended Extra: In season #1, Jay arguably got among the least screentime of the cast, despite surviving to the end of the season. In season #2, he is introduced in the first episode as Derek's new starter, allowing for far more screentime.
  • Barrier Warrior: Won his first two battles (and a rematch with Abra) through repeatedly using Defense Curl.
  • The Lancer: To Derek, being his friendly, pacifist Foil who serves as his second-in-command and starter.
  • The Load: One of the weaker Pokémon of the Unova team since he begins with low stats and zero damaging moves. As a result, he has to rely on his teammates to do the heavy lifting in battles.
  • Lover, Not a Fighter: Despite being a starter, he wasn't raised to fight and instead largely lives a more peaceful lifestyle compared to most Pokémon, which causes no end of headaches for Derek throughout season #2.
  • Non-Action Guy: Played Straight, as Jay was raised as a pacifist, with his moveset largely being catered to defense and singing. This comes back to bite him when he becomes Derek's starter, as he is left wholly unprepared for combat.
  • Starter Mon: Acts as Derek's starter during his Unova journey.
  • Survivor Guilt: After the Clay fight, Jay kept apologizing to the fallen friends for saying they should have fought Clay, thinking he played a part in their death.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: Becomes this pretty quickly in the season. Mal even carries him in a baby sling!
  • Took a Level in Badass: Inverted; Jay is far weaker as an Igglybuff, not having access to any damaging moves at the start. They only get through the tutorial at all through dumb luck with struggle.
    • Gets Played Straight over time as Jay evolves twice, making him just a little more viable in battle.
  • Victory by Endurance: Jay won his first two rival matches by having the opponents use up all of their moves before he did, resulting in said opponents struggling until they fainted, causing Jay to outlive them.
  • With Friends Like These...: With Gerber. The two are part of the group (and even act as childhood friends later on) but whenever they talk to each other, it's usually an argument.

Season #3 Tropes:

  • Ironic Last Words: While attempting to defend his plan he made with Gerber, he states that "we did the math." This ends up being his last words as the plan then backfires, resulting in him getting killed by Ryme's Banette and Gerber.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: He plots with Gerber to attack each other in the midst of a gym battle. This would lead to two thirds of the party dying, with Jayyweed going down with them.
  • Malicious Misnaming: Jayyweed would frequently mispronounce some names, such as calling Peppy "Pepsi" or Blorpoido "Blooper".

    Oni

Oni / Onee / Grace

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/oni_48.png

Played by: Oni_Cast

Species: Koffing, Weezing (S1); Kricketune (S2) Squawkabilly (S3)

S1 Debut: Stream #3; Episode #3

S2 Debut: Stream #5; Episode #5

S3 Debut: Stream #2

"What's up, fuckers?!"

Season #1 Tropes:

  • Body Horror: Upon evolving, a part of her body splits off of her to create a separate face (one noted by the team to resemble a tumour) that is apparently sentient.
  • Captain Obvious: Points out that Skarmory looks a little sharp...Likely because its made from metal.
  • The Dreaded: Downplayed; while Oni isn't feared, Derek repeatedly shows hesitation at the prospect of taking her out of the box.
  • Non-Action Guy: Has a limited amount of battles compared to other members of the team throughout season #1.
  • Odd Friendship: With Chrissy, the Team Mom, much to Derek's disturbance.
  • Out of Focus: Makes most of her appearances in the final video, despite being caught halfway through the journey.
  • The Stoner: Used a bong while in the party and has admitted to getting weed from other Pokémon. She also apparently hotboxed their Pokéball at least once.

Season #2 Tropes:

Season #3 Tropes:

  • Greaser Delinquents: A rare female example of this, exhibiting many mannerisms of that of a greaser and having slicked-back hair.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Since she joined after their death, her eulogy to Lark has her say that they look like they'd be pretty tasty in orange sauce. The rest of the party is unsettled by this.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Despite usually able to hold her own very well in battles, she is easily killed when the team reach Ryme's gym.

    Red

Red / Sauerkraut / Da Cheff!

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/red_6.png

Played by: redbuddi

Species: Spinda (S1); Farfetch'd (S2) Dunsparce, Dudunsparce (S3)

S1 Debut: Stream #3; Episode #3

S2 Debut: Stream #2; Episode #2

S3 Debut: Stream #6

"Hello! It's me! A funny little bear!"

General Tropes:

  • Ascended Extra: In the first season, they died the first time they were brought out of the box. Compare this to Sauerkraut, who got a much bigger chance for characterization before meeting their end at Clay, even showing up in a SnapCube stream later on. And despite their late debut, Da Cheff gets a lot of time to flesh themselves out as they end up being one of the final people alive by the end of the Violet playthrough.
  • Broken Win/Loss Streak: Da Cheff's survival by the end of season 3 was the first time that Red's Pokemon survived to the end of the game.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Appeared in a handful of Salty's videos prior to the series.
  • Joke Character: Always ends up being represented as a weak, gimmicky Pokemon. Season 3 downplays this, as Dunsparce had recieved an evolution by then.
  • Non-Elemental: Red has appeared in all three seasons as a Normal-type, including the April Fool's season, with the art accompanying the fake season depicting them as a Porygon.

Season #1 Tropes:

  • Out of Focus: Arguably the worst case of the entire cast, as they easily get the least amount of screentime and are only used in one or two battles, largely on account of Spinda not being a particularly useful Pokémon. It gets to a point where Derek and the rest of the team Lampshade as much.
  • Surprisingly Sudden Death: Arguably the worst case of the Hoenn team, as they died under the second time they appear in the series; Even then, it was twenty minutes after they were brought out of the PC.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Played for Laughs; soon after getting encountered, Red's voice transforms into a very disturbing version of itself that quickly terrifies Derek.

Season #2 Tropes:

  • Actor Allusion: A depressed, mopey, talking cartoon animal? Not the first time Red's played this sort of archetype. Red themself even referred to Sauerkraut as a refined version of Silver as a character.
  • Butt-Monkey: Sauerkraut's life can be described as a long string of miserable occurences. Red stated that their circumstances were specifically exaggerated to be unrelatable and thus easier to laugh at.
  • Captain Obvious: Believes it is not good to be fucked up and evil, but is in fact bad.
    • When Joe asks if they have a favorite racist, Sauerkraut says they don't because racists are not good people.
  • Curb-Stomp Cushion: In the fight against Clay, they were actually able to strike down the Excadrill who ravaged CHURMY, Gabi, Mal, and THE LARK, but they was unfortunately killed by Clay's Palpitoad.
  • The Ditz: In Skyrim they keep referring to Pokémon-specific terms and concepts, failing to comprehend that they're in a world that works nothing like their old one even though they do acknowledge the isekai situation. They also fail to understand several basic concepts until it's too late, such as believing a tile in front of an obvious spike trap is the only safe spot from the trap, or only recognizing that they're set to be executed in the intro when a Stormcloak soldier gets his head cut off in front of them.
  • Expansion Pack Past: Their past only get bigger and more convoluted as time continues. Between their brothers bullying them, their constant divorces, their daughter being sent to war, losing their mother to lemons, and many other events, Sauerkraut has the biggest backstory of the party by far.
  • Hidden Depths: It turns out they play Rainbow Six Siege, claiming to Pastey that it's all they play.
  • Ironic Allergy: Is apparently allergic to sauerkraut, which is a shame considering how much they eat it.
  • Meaningful Name: They eat Sauerkraut. They like Sauerkraut. They're named Sauerkraut.
  • Repetitive Name: They state that their full name is Sauerkraut Trashboat Sauerkraut.
  • Rerouted from Heaven: While most of the fallen Pokemon go to Valhalla (their version of Heaven), Sauerkraut ended up in the middle of a desert road trip with SnapCube. They would later end up isekaied into Nirn.
  • Serial Spouse: Had gone through seven wives and a few husbands.
  • The Eeyore: Between dropping their Trademark Favorite Food and being bullied by their brothers, they always feel a little down.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Sauerkraut. When it's not available they settle for cabbage, since it's used to make sauerkraut.

Season #3 Tropes

    Forrest

Forrest / Fowwest / 4est

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/forrest_1.png

Played by: viiverrids

Species: Swablu, Altaria (S1); Dwebble, Crustle (S2) Toedscool, Toedscruel (S3)

S1 Debut: Stream #3; Episode #3

S2 Debut: Stream #3; Episode #3

S3 Debut: Stream 5

"Forrest says, 'I legit lost the channel lol.'"

Season #1 Tropes:

  • Dying Moment of Awesome: During the fight against Drake, Forrest uses Mirror Move, using one of the opponent's moves against them. Although they still died during that turn, Forrest weakened the foe enough to give the team a win and earned a salute of emotes from the chat.
  • Global Airship: Used a form of fast-travel once they learn Fly.
  • Iconic Item: Their winged eye mask.
  • Synthetic Voice Actor: Talks through a robotic text-to-speech function.

Season #2 Tropes:

  • Bad Liar: Claimed they did not want to get into Derek's Pokeball, but the group could tell they wanted to.
  • Helium Speech: Unlike the first season, they speak with their own voice, but digitally pitched up.
  • Tempting Fate: They ask Callin that if, he dies, they can inherit his "balls", which he accepts. A few minutes after, Callin bites the dust.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: The prospect of being eaten— er, beaten up by "big strong Pokémon" clearly does not bother them at all. To a degree that the others find disturbing.

Season #3 Tropes:

  • Gag Lips: Is consistently depicted as having big red lips at the end of their mouth, often with a toothy smile.
  • Super-Speed: Implied, as they comment on their speed of 30 mph as "not that fast".

    Monsters

Monsters / Borat / Pete Ness

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/monsters_4.png

Played by: MonstersReview

Species: Spoink, Grumpig (S1); Cradily (S2)

S1 Debut: Stream #3; Episode #3

S2 Debut: Stream #3; Episode #3

"Waawaaweewa I am Spoink. My wife."

General Tropes:

  • Sole Survivor: Monsters, along with Sara, is one of few members of the series not to any of their characters die at all.

Season #1 Tropes:

  • Berserk Button: For as much of a silly character he is, he will NOT take kindly to you killing any of his friends. Stoney's Salamance learns this the hard way.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Despite his rather silly appearance, use of Engrish, and inability to properly comprehend what's actually going on, Monsters shows time and time again to be an absolute monster in combat, becoming one of Derek's most powerful teammates
  • Expy: Is a direct reference to Sasha Baron Cohen's Borat character.
  • Flat Character: Beyond being an Expy of Borat, there isn't very much to Monsters, especially in comparison to the rest of the main cast.
  • Funny Foreigner: Hails from Kazakhstan.
  • Fun with Acronyms: What he calls bike tricks in his country.
Monsters: BDSM! Bikes Do So Much!
  • Hidden Depths: It turns out the real Monsters is actually a sane, relatively normal guy; the Monsters we get to know throughout the journey is actually an alternate personality.
  • Meaningful Rename: Was originally named Monsters but is later renamed Borat in-game to better fit the character.
  • No Social Skills: Has little to no idea of how to speak actual sentences, with most of it coming across as a fine-line between gibberish and Engrish.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: Almost everything he says causes the party and audience to break out into hysterical laughter.
  • Split-Personality Takeover: Borat is actually Monsters' 2nd personality, having taken control during their time as a Spoink, and taking control back soon after evolving into Grumpig.
    • However, Borat ends up leaving Monsters alone after Derek and his team fight against Steven Stone, leaving to go to Kazakhstan and see his wife.

Season #2 Tropes:

  • Cool Old Guy: He doesn't start this way, but near the end of the playthrough, he gives a Rousing Speech to Derek and proves that he is willing to die for the team, stepping in to stall Ghetsis's Hydreigon in Sara's place.
  • Cutaway Gag: Pete Ness is the king of these, as he will do one every couple of minutes (at the very least).
  • Expy: As per Monsters himself, Pete is an amalgamation of Gordon Gekko, Phil Hartman, and Carter Pewterschmidt from Family Guy, with Peter Griffin's ability to summon cutaway gags.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Derek and every other party member is disgusted by his personality, his cutaway gags, his life, and the Pokémon that represents him, and when one of the party members is a Skuntank, that's a new low. But sometimes he can be a pretty smooth talker.
Joe: I will be honest. I hate looking at you but i love listening to you talk.
Pete Ness: That's fair, that's what my 35 wives said.
  • The Generation Gap: Played for Laughs. He's by far the oldest of the team, a womanizer and a proud capitalist. His life is long, full of absurdity, and has met some colorful public figures, like the time when he did DMT with Joe Rogan.
Pete Ness: Smells like Millenials over here, reminds me of the time I went to Coachella.
  • Interspecies Romance: With Professor Juniper and even got married, much to the group's surprise.
  • Interspecies Adoption: In the "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue, he's shown to of adopted Mal's kids after the former's death.
  • Non-Idle Rich: Not even being a member of the 1% keeps Derek from putting him in battle.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: After the complete party wipe against Ghetsis, Pete Ness sounds genuinely sad. Unlike normal, he doesn’t even try a Cutaway Gag, stating that he’s never experienced anything like this, and even provides a genuine Rousing Speech to help Derek get back up and regain the courage to keep going. He also acts nearly completely serious for the entirety of Stream 9, only regaining his normal personality once the coast is clear and Ghetsis is defeated.
  • Parental Neglect: Couldn't remember their son's name when asked.
    • This seems to go both ways, as none of his children cared enough to wish him a Happy Father's Day.
    • However, there still appears to be a level of contact between Pete Ness and his 75 kids, with him even asking for the orders of every single one of them when Derek goes to get food.
  • Serial Spouse: Had 36 wives. Currently has 1, but divorced 35.
  • Toilet Humor: He used to work as a bidet in a public bathroom. And in the original Stream, when it was mentioned that somebody soiled themselves, his reply would be that he did or has done so as well.
  • Too Many Babies: Amongst his 36 wives, he apparently has 75 children.
  • Unfortunate Names: Pete Ness, as in penis.
  • Visual Innuendo: His hair. at least, that's what we think it is...

    Chrissy

Chrissy / Coach Cosmic / Christene's

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chrissy_7.png

Played by: CosmicKeyframe

Species: Sandshrew, Sandslash (S1); Shinx, Luxio, Luxray (S2) Tandemaus, Maushold (S3)

S1 Debut: Stream #3; Episode #3

S2 Debut: Stream #3; Episode #3

S3 Debut: Stream #2

"Your granny loves you!"

Season #1 Tropes:

  • Cool Old Lady: Beloved by both team and viewers. Also lived an eventful life before being caught by Derek, as she mentions previously being owned by John Lennon.
  • Dirty Old Woman: Among the most perverted members of the team, and also one of the oldest.
  • Disappointed in You: When Pastey dies, Chrissy is left disappointed, mainly due to how easily it could have been avoided.
  • Foreshadowing: At the beginning of the fourth stream, she made a joking prediction that a dog would die at some point in the night. At the time, Gerber and Pastey were still alive and were considered to be dogs, so it was unsure who she meant. In the end, the answer was both.
Chrissy: Who's ready to watch some people die!? I'm putting my money on the dog!
  • Iconic Item: Her jewel necklace.
  • Really Gets Around: Occasionally goes on long, ridiculous tirades about her previous lovers, including a Jirachi previously owned by John Lennon of The Beatles! She's also the most common member to bring up perverse or otherwise inappropriate subject matter.
  • Team Mom: The oldest, wisest, and most mature female member of the party...At least on the surface, and takes on a caring, mother-like role. The team even refers to her as their aunt/grandma!
  • The Bus Came Back: She makes an appearance in Season 2, during Derek's trek up the Celestial Tower. She also gets referenced by Coach Cos, Chrissy's character in the second season.

Season #2 Tropes:

  • Blood Knight: Really gets into her battles.
    • This is ultimately what also results in her death, ultimately giving herself up in an attempt to fight the Elite Four alone, presumably seeing it as the "ultimate challenge."
  • Heroic Lineage: Unova's Coach Cos is in fact the granddaughter of Hoenn's Auntie Chrissy the Sandslash.
  • Hot-Blooded: Has more energy and intensity than all of the team combined.
  • Lovable Jock: Introduced as a positive gym coach.
  • Luke Nounverber: The Cosmic part of her name doesn’t have any meaning, but it still sounds cool.
  • Missing Mom: Well, Auntie in this case. Auntie Sandslash, from the first season, said she would be back before disappearing. She did not get to come back. Judging by her intense anger at Gerber making a note from Chrissy disappear, the Sandslash clearly meant a lot to Cos.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: With Gerber. It gets a bit more serious when Cos' only memento of her auntie disappears, courtesy of the influencer.

Season #3 Tropes:

  • Back for the Dead: Chrissy had to leave the series for a short while due to real life complications, but the stream she returned she ended up dying.
  • Creepy Twins: It’s to the point that they’re accompanied by ominous music in the VODs.
  • Death in the Limelight: They get a lot of focus in Stream 5. Unfortunately, they also die in this stream.
  • Defiant to the End: Their ability allowed them to survive Terastalized Skeledirge's Torch Song on 1 HP, and their response is a raging Hyper Voice to give Braidy a chance of defeating the Skeledirge after it finishes them with another Torch Song.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: They take a near fatal blow from Skeledirge, and they manage to get out a Hyper Voice out before it kills them, allowing Braidy to finish it off.
  • Full-Name Basis: They go by Christene's.
  • I Am Legion: Refers to herself/their self with "we", implying she functions as a Hive Mind.
  • The Nameless: The second child doesn’t have a name, unlike the rest of the family.

    Gabi

Gabi

Played by: TheGabiType

Species: Magnemite, Magneton (S1); Cherrim (S2)

S1 Debut: Stream #4; Episode #4

S2 Debut: Stream #1; Episode #1

"I guess you can say I'm pretty attractive!"

Season #1 Tropes:

  • Agent Peacock: Balances his crush on Steven Stone, his love of Pokémon pageants, and being a competent battle Pokémon.
  • Celeb Crush: For Steven Stone. Unfortunately, Steven kills Gabi in a Pokemon battle.
  • Characterization Marches On: When he debuts, he acts and talks like a robot. He drops the gimmick within minutes.
  • Iconic Item: His pride flags.
  • Hartman Hips: Or at least, he's mistaken for having them.
  • Near-Death Experience: Not too long after getting caught, he's nearly killed outright by May's Grovyle, only surviving on account of Gerber taking his place in the fight.
  • Nice Guy: Among the team's kindest, most likable members, with just about every member of the team accepting not long after being caught.
  • Queer Colors: Carries around gay and transgender flags.
  • Survivor Guilt: Because Gerber only died due to taking Gabi's place in the fight against May, he's naturally left shaken up and regretful by the experience.

Season #2 Tropes:

  • All Gays Love Theatre : Loves to sing, and is very excited by the prospect of the Pokémon Musical. Also is gay.
  • Brooklyn Rage: Has a very strong New York City accent.
  • Bury Your Gays: One of the ones to die in the Clay fight of Stream 3. Also is gay.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: His first appearance in Season 2 has him appearing to flirt with Mal, who gets sent out when he’s caught. In spite of the fact that within the same stream he’s established to be gay.
  • Performance Artist: Sang and danced in the Pokémon Musical of Nimbasa City. Twice!
  • Split-Personality Makeover: One Sunny Day can turn Gabi from a gravely-voiced Brooklyn resident to a bright flower in both personality and appearance.

    CHATFORM

CHATFORM

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chatform.png
Click for spoilers:

Played by: Twitch Chat

Species: Castform / Rayquaza (S1)

S1 Debut: Stream #5; Episode #4

"Why are you guys talking about eating me?"

  • Big Bad: It's the closest thing to a Big Bad the first season has, aside from the in-story feud between Team Magma and Team Aqua. It immediately threatens everybody in the party, and possesses Rayquaza in order to get it's revenge against Mikey and Salty, leading them to accidentally cause irreparable damage to the ecosystem by killing it.
  • Blow You Away: When it's possessing Rayquaza.
  • Demonic Possession: This appears to be the case with it's Chatquaza form; Every other time Rayquaza appears, it's normal. This isn't an impostor either, since it's death caused a major disruption in the climate.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: As a personification of Twitch chat, CHATFORM technically appeared in every episode prior to their official debut, occasionally bantering with the team through strange, illogical sentences.
  • Fan Boy: Of Claire, wishing her a happy birthday live on stream.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: None of the team are particularly fond of them due to being a personification of all of Twitch chat's most random, obnoxious qualities. They're also the only death in the entire playthrough that isn't mourned at least to some degree by the team.
  • Killed Off for Real: Unlike every other party member who can conceivably return for future seasons, CHATFORM's death is permanent. This is further backed up in season #2, when their role is replaced outright by CHURMY.
  • Iconic Item: Their Twitch mask.
  • Mind Hive: CHATFORM is essentially hundreds upon hundreds of Salty's viewers mushed into one Pokémon.
  • Pets as a Present: Was given to Derek as a gift for his help over two-thirds of the way into the series.
  • Sixth Ranger: By the time of their debut, Salty had already filled a slot for all of his friends and wasn't planning to catch any additional party members. However, the hilarious idea of having the Twitch chat ultimately control one of the Pokémon became too good of an idea to pass up, and so they took the role of the Castform Derek was given as a gift.
  • Stylistic Suck: Their (really short) Really Dead Montage is presented as a crummy Windows Movie Maker video while Derek remembers all the 'good times' they had together.
  • True Final Boss: Takes the place of Rayquaza as the final battle of the game.
    • Anticlimax Boss: But as usual for a majority of the bosses in the series, he's dealt with fairly quickly.
  • Walking Spoiler: Their role as the ACTUAL Final Boss of the playthrough is pretty difficult to not bring up when discussing the character.
  • Weather Manipulation: It changes form depending on the weather. Not that it got a chance to, though. Played straight when it's possessing Rayquaza; it's death causes a climate shift that results in the second season's randomized wild encounters.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Killed in their first battle, courtesy of Mikey's Magnitude 10.

    Jae

Jae / No idea no / Vriska

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jae_6.png

Played by: mmspenguin

Species: Tentacool (S1), Klang (S2) Tarountula, Spidops (S3)

S1 Debut: Stream #6; Episode #5

S2 Debut: Stream #4; Episode #4

S3 Debut: Stream #2

"I'm a shiny Tentacool."

General Tropes:

  • Broken Win/Loss Streak: Survives season 3 after getting killed in both previous seasons.
  • One-Steve Limit: After Season 1, their Pokemon go by different names to avoid confusion with Jay.

Season #1 Tropes:

  • Last Episode, New Character: Isn't recruited until the last episode of the series, and doesn't even last ten minutes after her introduction.
  • Metal Slime: They're a shiny Pokémon, which have a 1/8192 encounter rate.
  • Sixth Ranger: Only added to the cast due to Derek finding a shiny and not wanting to kill it.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Dies not too long after her first appearance, only barely managing to have more screentime than Red.
  • Willfully Weak: Chooses not to evolve into Tentacruel. The group immediately Lampshade how familiar that situation was to Pastey. It only gets worse since Jae also dies.

Season #2 Tropes:

  • A God Am I: Views themself as a god after a discussion about religion with Derek and the others.
  • Ascended Extra: While Jae in Season 1 has a small amount of screentime compared to everyone else, NIN is a prominent team member in Season 2 as she powers through some gyms.
  • In-Series Nickname: NIN; An abbreviation of her name.
  • Mellow Fellow: One of the calmer members of the team, always relaxed and having good fun.

Season #3 Tropes:

  • Contrived Coincidence: Jae says she already knew she was going to name her Pokémon Vriska, but she wasn't banking her Pokémon actually being a spider.
  • Have I Mentioned I Am Gay?: "Hold on, I'm a lesbian."
  • Names to Run Away From: Once Vriska reveals her name, the party immediately becomes fairly cautious of her, knowing her namesake's reputation.
  • Sleepyhead: Has Ideopathic hypersomnia with long sleep time, making her always tired even after a long night of rest. Ironic, since Spidops has the Insomnia ability and thus cannot fall asleep.

Debuted during Season #2

    CHURMY

CHURMY :)

Played by: Twitch & YouTube Chat

Species: Burmy (S2)

S2 Debut: Stream #1

"God I love the limited 3D in this game. It's so charming"

  • Death Seeker: Its first words upon capture is it begging to be killed. Got its wish by Stream 3.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: As random and incomprehensible as CHURMY was, even they knew Derek fighting Clay the way he was could not have ended well.
  • Good Counterpart: Seemingly one to CHATFORM. While CHATFORM kept threatening the rest of the party, leading to Mikey killing it because he got too suspicious of it, resulting in it possessing Rayquaza and trying to kill Derek in revenge, CHURMY never does or implies anything really bad against its allies, and most of its aggression is infighting between its numerous minds. It just wants Derek's approval, which it won't get because of the previous Mind Hive he owned.
  • Mind Hive: Just like their Hoenn counterpart, CHURMY is the single personification of thousands of Salty's fans.
  • Pets as a Present: Similar to CHATFORM, CHURMY is a gift given to Derek by one of the various residents of Hoenn.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: To CHATFORM, replacing them as a party member for the second season due to their death.

     Lark

THE LARK / Lark

Played by: Andrew, The Lark

Species: Whimsicott (S2) Quaxly, Quaxwell (S3)

S2 Debut: Stream #2; Episode #2

S3 Debut: Stream #1

"Just Grass? More like Just Ass!"

General Tropes:

  • Ascended Extra: From an editor for Season 1's videos to a Pokémon in Season 2, then the starter of Violet. Subverted on that last part, as he's killed off not too soon in the second stream as the first casualty of the run.
  • Foil: Whimsicott Lark and Quaxly Lark are opposed in naming, with Whimsicott having no name and only choosing THE LARK on a whim when asked and Quaxly being accidentally given no name before recognizing that Lark does fit for the Pokémon, since he's a duck.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Dies very soon after his capture in both seasons he appears in.

Season #2 Tropes:

Season #3 Tropes:

     Hannah

Hannah / Hannah u

Played by: HannahDoesVO

Species: Delibird(S2) Nacli, Naclstack (S3)

S2 Debut: Stream #2; Episode #2

S3 Debut: Stream #2

"You can play with Flappy Bird whenever you want! It's my gift to you!"

General Tropes

  • Everygirl: Despite initially being baby in Season 2, and having odd accents in Season 3, Hannah's one of the more normal members of the team.

Season 2 tropes

Season 3 tropes

  • Likes Older Women: She's a big fan of Ryme's, and isn't afraid to let it be known. She even goes as far as to encourage fan-artists to draw art of her Pokesona and Ryme kissing. Which makes it all the more tragic when Ryme's ace kills her.
  • Unexplained Accent: Hannah switches between having a southern accent and a British accent, even though Paldea is based on the Iberian peninsula. When she evolves, she initially only uses a Scottish accent before just dropping it altogether.
  • Weak to Magic: Downplayed, but Hannah's lower Special Defense compared to her Defense ends biting her in the ass when she switches into Ryme's Toxtricity after GrAce dies. A stat-boost from the audience makes Toxtricity's Discharge One-Hit Kill Hannah despite being around the same level and being neutral to Electric.

     Brady

Species: Illumise (S2) Paldean Tauros (S3)

Season 2 Tropes

Season 3 Tropes

  • The Big Guy: Becomes this for his team after Mykyie's death.
  • Heroic Spirit: Effortlessly shrugs off paralysis when up against Eri's Revavroom.
  • Sole Survivor: Like with Hannah in Season 2, he’s the only one of the friends who debuted in Season 2 to end up lasting until the end of the season.

     Luke

Luke strwr / Luke

Played by: ChiefDagda

Species: Tangrowth (S2) Flittle, Espathra (S3)

S2 Debut: Stream #5; Episode #5

S3 Debut: Stream 4

"The legend was true! Small children do catch me!"

Season #2 Tropes:

  • Establishing Character Moment: Apparently, he planned to have a totally different bit for his character that got thrown out the window as soon as Derek decided to name him “Luke stwr”.
  • May the Farce Be with You: His entire character is based off of Star Wars, even going as far as being named after it.
  • Parody Religion: Practices “The New Force” or "Force 2.0", not to be confused with the old classic force you may be familiar with.

Season #3 Tropes:

  • Facing Death With Dignity: He takes his death at the hand of Nemona's Skeledirge quite calmly.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: As cruel as his fate ended up being, the rest of the team is able to survive because of him, which Salty lampshades to his grieving team.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: After a lot of clever planning from both his and Gerber's parts as to how to defuse Nemona's Skeledirge after it had stacked up too many boosts from spamming Torch Song, Luke used his Focus Sash to tank a hit before blasting it with a Tera-boosted STAB Lumina Crash... that just barely fails to kill the Skeledirge, forcing Gerber to finish the job after his death.

     Rocket

Rocket

Species: Dog

     Giratina

Giratina

Played by: Dana Snyder

Species: Giratina

S2 Debut: Stream #8

"Mwahahahaha!! It is I, Giratina! Master of the Distortion World!! Mwahahaha..."

  • Actor Allusion: Most fanart depicts him with a bulbous blue nose identical to that of Scratch, Dana's character from The Ghost and Molly McGee. For bonus points, Giratina itself is a Ghost-type Pokémon.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": The only caught Pokemon of the series to not have a nickname. Justified in that he's a one of a kind Legendary Pokemon.
  • Curse Cut Short: Mixed with Killed Mid-Sentence, in which he gets cut off in the middle of saying "GODDAMNIT".
  • Fake Shemp: Salty didn't actually have Dana in the call like he did with the others; instead, he says he comissioned Dana to read off a bunch of lines that could be used for his appearance in the Friendlocke. This never became very clear in the stream itself because he dies so fast.
  • Large Ham: A lot of his dialogue is either him being dramatic or evilly laughing to himself.
  • Sixth Ranger: A literal last-minute addition to Team White Boys, as the encounter happens right before Derek faces off against N.
  • Walking Spoiler: His entire existence is this given how he replaces Reshiram and gets killed off only 2 battles after being caught.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: The worst case of the season, if not the series! Giratina is caught, used to fight N, and killed immediately afterwards during the Ghetsis fight.

Debuted during Season #3

     CHATBIKE

CHATBIKE/Penisbike

Played by: YouTube Chat

Species: Miraidon

S3 Debut: Stream #1

"Father we require sustenance, give us more of that falic looking combination of food you called a 'sandwich'".

  • Good Counterpart: While CHURMY is closer to CHATFORM, CHATBIKE is closer to CHATQUAZA, being a legendary Pokemon under the control of Chat. However, CHATBIKE is much more kindly and saved Peppy from a Houndour while CHATQUAZA tried to kill Derek.
  • Mind Hive: Same as always, though given that Miraidon has an established personality in-game, Chat has been good about trying to keep their voice/persona consistent.
  • Non-Action Guy: Unlike the last few Chat controlled Pokemon, CHATBIKE isn't an actual member of the party and is solely used for transportation. This changes in the fight with AI Turo/the Paradise Protection Protocol, where they finally get to fight.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: They usually ask for sandwiches when they want food.

     Hugo

Cookie

Played by: Hugo

Species: Cetoddle, Cetitan

S3 Debut: Stream #6

  • The Baby of the Bunch: His actual age is unknown, but he's the most childish of the party members and is treated as such.
  • Life Energy: Becomes more youthful by killing his own kind.
  • Rapid Aging: Went from less than a couple months old to 50 years in the time between Streams #9 and #10. By Stream #11 he's developed dementia and wants to retire.
  • Really Was Born Yesterday: When asked how old he was, Cookie says he was born the day before he was caught, making him about a week old at the time of being asked.
  • Retirony: Was killed by Nemona's Skeledirge right after the Elite 4 were defeated, which was when he intended to retire.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: Would often try to stomp smaller Pokemon just to hear the noise, as well as suggesting that the group "Old Yeller" Phil.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Very optimistic and cheery, even after learning that he's the newest recruit after a near-team wipe.

     Pupchan

Puppie ^._.^

Played by: pupchans

Species: Tadbulb, Bellibolt

S3 Debut: Stream #7

  • Fangirl: Of Yeam Star, due to how "gender" they all are. Unlike other similar cases in the past, she doesn't get killed by them.
  • Genki Girl: Has an extremely energetic and enthusiastic personality.
  • Made of Iron: Clavell's Gyarados smacks her with a super effective Earthquake, with everyone expecting that it would kill her on the spot. She doesn't even take 50% of her HP in damage.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: Thanks to her username, she's been portrayed by fans as a Tadbulb — a Pokemon based on frogs — with elements of a dog, like dog ears and a dog tail above her tadpole tail.
  • Pronouncing My Name for You: After being named, everyone agrees the "^._.^" part of her name is pronounced as an indistinguishable sound of disgust.

     Phil

Hoenn

    Notable Residents

Derek's Mother

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/npc_0.png
  • Celeb Crush: Has a thing for Professor Birch, seeing him as the hottest professor throughout the regions.
  • Parental Neglect: Doesn't seem to have any problem with Derek sitting in the back of a moving car, despite all the potential safety issues.

Professor Birch

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/npc_4.png
  • Acrofatic: Is able to outrun the Poochyena attacking him for who knows how long before Derek arrives and saves him.
  • Big Beautiful Man: Quite attractive in spite of his noticeable girth.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Only appears once at the beginning of the story, but is also responsible for setting off the journey in the first place by giving Derek his starter, Tracey.

May

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/npc_9.png
  • Anticlimax Boss: At the beginning of episode #2, Derek finds himself worried that their battle with her might be their first real hurdle in their journey. Ultimately, it's a fairly easy fight outside of one close call with her Treecko.
  • The Generic Girl: Even in comparison to the other minor characters, who themselves are fairly one-dimensional, May never really gets much of an established personality.
  • The Rival: Serves as Derek's, though he doesn't take her too seriously. At least until she kills Gerber.

Wally

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/npc_5.png
  • Big Brother Worship: Seems to have nothing but respect for Derek, in spite of the frequent disrespect he gets in response.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Absolutely destroyed in his first battle with Derek's team, his Ralts getting instantly one-shot by Gerber. This leaves Wally devastated in the process.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: Takes ballet lessons.
  • Parental Favoritism: Acts as Norman's favorite son, leaving Derek feeling replaced and annoyed by Wally's presence.
  • Rich Sibling, Poor Sibling: The rich sibling to Derek's poor, being Norman's preferred son and thus likely getting at least some of his money in comparison to Derek.
  • The Rival: Played for Laughs, as it's clear that neither Derek nor his team takes Wally even remotely seriously, repeatedly defeating him with ease throughout the playthrough.

Mr. Briney

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/briney_8.png
"Get ready, fucker!"
  • Drives Like Crazy: Whenever Derek pays for rides, Briney will sail across half of the region in practically under a minute, a fact that leaves the team in a state of shock every time.
  • Zip Mode: Acts as a form of fast travel for Derek and his team.

Team Aqua & Team Magma

  • Big Bad Wannabe: While their attempts to reconstruct Hoenn in their image drive the second half of the game technically, they're ultimately little more than a cliffnote in the series as a whole.
  • Demoted to Extra: Go from the main villains of the Hoenn games to effectively glorified mini-bosses with almost nothing to show for their efforts.
  • Hypocrite: Maxie tells Archie that his plan to get rid of all the land was stupid even though Derek reminds him that his plan to get rid of all the water is also pretty stupid.
  • Shameful Strip: Played for Laughs, as Team Aqua leader Archie strips buck naked in front of Derek upon defeat.

Steven Stone

    Notable Pokémon

Misshapen Pikachu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/misshapen_pikachu.png
  • The Aggressive Drug Dealer: Implied to become Collin's drug dealer during his stay in the daycare.
  • Drugs Are Bad: Very clearly has not had a good reaction to the drugs its been sneaking into the daycare.
  • Getting High on Their Own Supply: Derek's only explanation for its disfigured appearance.
  • One-Shot Character: Only appears for a brief gag in episode #2, before never appearing again.
  • The Stoner: Implied to be a drug dealer, and definitely looks the part with how malformed and off it looks.

May's Grovyle

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/grovyle.png

    Gym Leaders

Roxanne

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gl_6.png
The rock-type gym leader of Rustboro City. She's the first major obstacle of the series...Or at least, she's supposed to be.
  • Anticlimax Boss: Despite being a gym leader, she is far from intimidating, getting dealt with relatively easily thanks to Sara.
  • Out of Focus: Their battle begins and ends quickly enough to barely be a footnote in the grand scheme of the series.
  • Starter Villain: The first gym leader the party faces, and also the easiest.

Brawly

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gl_63.png
The fighting-type gym leader of Dewford Town. He's a meathead with a team that focuses entirely on punching and kicking, so when something can't be done in through that, he's left at a fairly notable disadvantage.
  • Anticlimax Boss: Arguably the worst example in the entire series; despite being a boss, all of his Pokémon are one/two-shot by Ken.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: A fighting-type specialist, which shockingly, leads to his undoing.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: His team only has fighting-type damaging moves, meaning that when Ken is thrown out to fight him, his team literally can't do anything to hurt him!
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Suffers one at the hands of Ken.
  • Dumb Muscle: He maybe could have put up a fight if he had thought to have even a single move that wasn't a fighting-type.
  • Joke Character: His fight quite literally goes by in the blink of an eye, to a point where the party is at a loss to what sorts of jokes they can even make about him.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Is brutally beaten by Ken in his fight, to a point where none of his team evens lays a finger on him.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: His team is entirely fighting types. Since Fighting type moves can't hit Ghost types, Kenny no-sells his way through the fight.

Wattson

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gl_0.png
The electric-type gym leader of Mauville City. He's not very good at his job, rarely training and filling his gym full of kids, which may or may not have disturbing implications.
  • Beard of Evil: If his behavior around Derek and his gym full of kids is anything to go by, he isn't a particularly good person.
  • Child Soldiers: The trainers that occupy his gym are exclusively young children who don't seem to know where their parents are.
  • General Failure: Compared to the rest of the gym leaders, Wattson's trainers are utterly incompetent, with one of them being a child who doesn't even have any electric-type Pokémon!
  • Joke Character: His trainers aren't good at their job, his team is pathetically weak, and he's the oldest and most out of shape gym leader. It's not particularly easy to take him all that seriously.
  • Pædo Hunt: Gives Derek his phone number immediately following the battle, which makes him more than a little uncomfortable.

Flannery

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gl_2.png
The fire-type gym leader of Lavaridge Town. The self-proclaimed hottest Gym Leader who leaves a heavy impact on the story.
  • Butch Lesbian: All of Flannery's Pokémon are female, and they also exclusively and excessively flirt with Tracey and Mal, two female Pokémon. They're also not particularly feminine-looking.
  • The Casanova: Flannery's Camerupt and Torkoal, who are shockingly flirtatious and charming despite their rather off-putting appearances.
  • Four Is Death: She's the fourth gym leader, and the cause for the first death of the run, being Tracey.
  • Kick the Dog: Using attract on Tracey is one thing, but the Torkoal immediately killing her in said moment of weakness is something entirely despicable.
  • Polyamory: Flannery's team sees absolutely no issue trying to flirt and be with multiple women at once. Its also heavily implied the entire team is in a relationship with each other, even outside of their Attracts.
  • Psycho Lesbian: Torkoal sees zero issue murdering Tracey while flirting with her.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Serves as little more than a gym leader you fight halfway into the game, and yet is responsible for killing Tracey, setting the stakes for the rest of the series as a result.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: Is the first fight in the entire first season to actually put up a real fight against the main party, forcing them to start taking the journey more seriously.

Norman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gl_29.png
The normal-type gym leader of Petalburg City. Derek's father, who abandoned him and his mother quickly after the divorce, having Wally in the meantime and refusing to pay his alimony checks.
  • Abusive Parents: Doesn't get along well with Derek, belittling his skills as a trainer and regularly stating how much he hates him.
    • Inverted in the case of Wally, who he seems to get along with well.
  • Anticlimax Boss: Despite his seeming importance to Derek's storyline, his battle against him lasts less than a minute.
  • Archnemesis Dad: Hates Derek despite being his father, and later fights him as a part of the gym challenge.
  • Hate Sink: Fairly easily the most unlikeable character the party encounters throughout their journeys in Hoenn, being Derek's abusive father.
  • Jerkass to One: Is only ever seen being cruel or rude to his own son, Derek. Otherwise, he acts fairly normal.

Winona

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gl_08.png
The flying-type gym leader of Fortree City. Her team is known for being absolutely unbeatable in some runs thanks to RNG...Not that you'd ever know that.
  • Flat Character: Gets little to no personality throughout her battle with the team.
  • The Quiet One: Likely the best reason why she comes across as so unremarkable may be on account of her just plain not talking much.
  • Villain of Another Story: Her Altaria, if given enough time to set-up Dragon Dance, becomes nigh-unstoppable on some runs, having wiped some high-leveled teams with ease.

Tate and Liza

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gl_4.png
The psychic-type gym leaders of Mossdeep City. A big change to the usual Gym Battle, as you fight both of them via Double Battle.
  • Dual Boss: Both have to be battled together and are pretty hard because of this.
  • The Babyofthe Bunch: Likely the youngest gym leaders in Hoenn being seven or nine.
  • Twin Telepathy: Being psychic-type gym leaders they can determine what the other is thinking.

Juan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gl_48.png
The water-type gym leader of Sootopolis City and the final gym leader encountered on the journey.

    Elite Four & Champion

Sidney

The Dark-type user of Hoenn's Elite Four.

Phoebe

The Ghost-type user of Hoenn's Elite Four.

Glacia

The Ice-type user of Hoenn's Elite Four.

Drake

The Dragon-type user of Hoenn's Elite Four.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: While the other Elite Four members were not much of a challenge, Drake proved to be the toughest by killing Forrest.

Wallace

The Champion of the Hoenn Pokemon League and the final opponent of the journey. A powerful trainer with an equally powerful water-type team...On paper.
  • Anticlimax Boss: While he was expected to be a formidable final foe, he instead gets overpowered by Gerber's use of Sunny Day and Solar Beam.

Unova

    Notable Residents

Cheren

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/black_white_cheren_2_3.png
One of Derek's best friends and rivals in the Unova region. An honest and difficult boy on a search for strength.
  • Butt-Monkey: Between the two best friend rivals, Cheren always seems to get the most insults and hate from Derek and Co. Even Sauerkraut gets a good couple of jabs at him!
  • Foreheadof Doom: He gets insulted for his big forehead that you could land a plane on.
  • The Rival: Acts as one for Derek, picking Hoppip from the starter selection.

Bianca

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bianca_bw_anime_art_2.png
One of Derek's rivals in the Unova region. An energetic, albeit flighty girl who travels as a Pokemon trainer despite her father's disapproval.
  • The Rival: Acts as one for Derek, picking Abra from the starter selection.

Professor Juniper

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2021_08_09_015255.png

Bianca's Father

  • Helicopter Parents: Appears multiple times in the story to voice his concern over Bianca's Pokemon journey. However, he gets better over time.

N

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/differentn.png

  • King Incognito: Revealed to be the king and leader of Team Plasma in Stream 3.
  • Evil Counterpart: Serves as one to Derek. Both are the dragons’ chosen heroes, both have the ability to understand Pokémon when nobody else can, and both have less than desirable fathers.
  • Motor Mouth: Talks faster than any other NPC in Unova. This goes as far as the game's code giving him a special text speed so he is faster than anyone else.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Acknowledges how Derek's Pokemon can talk, both in the series and In-Universe.

Ghetsis & Team Plasma

  • Big Bad: The antagonists of Season 2, as they fight to separate humans from Pokemon.
  • Hidden Villain: Downplayed: While Team Plasma was always the antagonist and Ghetsis was the public face, the final part of the game revealed that Ghetsis was using N and Team Plasma as a means to his true goal to rule the world as the only person with Pokemon.
  • Inexplicably Identical Individuals: Other than the Seven Sages, and the Shadow Triad, everyone in Team Plasma has orange hair and looks very similar.
  • Shout-Out: Ghetsis sounds remarkably similar to Plankton.

Al Pacino & Adam Sandler

  • Ascended Meme: Around a year before the Friendlocke, Salty created and ran the Dunkaccino Twitter account which featured various edits of the final scene of Jack and Jill, where Al Pacino danced and rapped in a Dunkin Donuts commercial. One year later, Chrissy accidentally put a picture of Adam Sandler amongst the fanart featured for stream #2. Five streams later, both of them appear before the Pokemon League as an optional fight.
  • Expy: Literally just Al Pacino and Adam Sandler. However, Pacino acts as the self-proclaimed Champion of the Dunk.
  • Lethal Joke Character: While the two were added as a reference to the Dunkaccino account Salty ran, they end up causing the deaths of Onee and Callin.
  • Unexpected Character: No one in the party had any idea those two would appear in Unova. Even the fans were pretty shocked!

    Notable Pokémon

    Gym Leaders

Cilan, Chili, & Cress

The gym leader trio of Striaton City. The first obstacle of Derek's Unova journey, each trainer represents a different element (Grass, Fire, and Water)
  • Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors: The main gimmick of this gym. They choose which leader the challenger would fight against. In the case of Season 2, Derek fought Cilan the grass-type user.
  • Starter Villain: The first gym leader(s) the group encounter in Unova.

Lenora

The normal-type gym leader of Nacrene City. The director of the Nacrene Museum with a dominant stance on her love life.
  • Casual Kink: She and her husband saw no problem talking about pegging in the Nacrene Gym. Even in front of Gym challengers like Derek.
  • Dominatrix: Derek and the others knew upon entering the gym that Lenora pegs her husband.

Burgh

The bug-type gym leader of Castelia City. A skilled artist and struggling trendsetter for "Burgh Thursday".
  • Friend to Bugs: Justified as his team is based around Bug-type Pokemon.
  • Anti-Climax Boss: invoked Joe's fire moves lay waste to not only Burgh's team, but his entire gym!

Elesa

The electric-type gym leader of Nimbasa City. This gym leader is never shy to bring up her modeling career.

Clay

The ground-type gym leader of Drieftveil City. The Miner King who wields the power of the Master Emerald and a powerful team to boot.
  • Cowboy: Has the look and the accent of one.
  • Hero Killer: Kills off five party members with his Excadrill.
  • Heroic Rematch: The first in the series to warrant one. Derek's first battle against him ended in a tragic defeat, taking the lives of five party members. After weeks of Training from Hell for the gang, they go against Clay one more time. Round 2, however, ended in Derek's victory.
  • Idiot Ball: Salty holds it while going up against him, despite everybody else's protests. He purposefully brings only five party members, and doesn't even consider type advantages. This leads to the highest death count yet! What makes this example worse is that Mikeydeez* sweeped Clay during the rematch with Hi-Jump Kicks.
  • Senseless Sacrifice: The first party managed to take out his Excadrill, leaving Sauerkraut alive. As well as a Palpitoad. The Palpitoad wins, leaving the fight entirely for naught.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: Easily the greatest challenge Derek comes across in his journey, as his Excadrill wipes out five members of his team.

Skyla

The flying-type gym leader of Mistralton City. Has her own airfield and has some drama with a certain Magnezone.
  • Anticlimax Boss: Compared to Clay, Skyla was a pushover.
  • Noodle Incident: Has some grudge against Gerber over a skydiving video the two did. It's never fully explained what happened but it was enough for Gerber to acknowledge the beef between them.

Brycen

The ice-type gym leader of Icirrus City.
  • Anticlimax Boss: Derek and the group deal with his gym with little trouble, to the point where they Lampshade how much they overestimated the fight.

Drayden & Iris

The dragon-type gym leaders of Opelucid City. While they both act as gym leaders, you only fight one depending on the game.

    Elite Four & Champion

Shauntal

The ghost-type user of Unova's Elite Four.

Marshal

The fighting-type user of Unova's Elite Four.

Grimsley

The dark-type user of Unova's Elite Four.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: The only member of Unova's Elite Four that could defeat one of Derek's Pokemon specifically, Mikeydeez*.

Caitlin

The psychic-type user of Unova's Elite Four.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: She may sleep constantly, but one battle with her shows she has earned every last wink of sleep. Coach Cos learned that the hard way.
  • Sleepyhead: Her entire motif is being constantly sleepy.

Alder

The Champion of Unova's Pokemon League.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Is able to understand and talk to Sauerkraut.
  • Villain of Another Story: Although Alder exists as a post-game boss and defeating him then would officially make the player the Champion of Unova, Derek chooses not to do the league again and ends his adventure after beating Ghetsis.

Paldea

    Notable Residents

Nemona

Peppy’s first rival
  • Accidental Misnaming: Her name is frequently mispronounced as Pneumonia.
  • Hero Killer: Her Skeledirge kills Mall and Christene's with three Terastalized Torch Songs. Luke and Cookie would later fall to the very same Skeledirge as well.

Arven

Peppy’s second rival
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Narrowly subverted. While walking with Mall to get enough steps in for her to evolve, Derek unknowingly walks into the trigger for Arven to call the player and warn them about the Open Sky Titan, recalling Mall into her ball. The group thought Mall needed 1000 consecutive steps to get her to evolve and that the call had undone their progress, but luckily it wasn't the case, and she only needed 1000 total.
  • Straw Misogynist: Given the trait of hating women after ignoring Nemona during his first appearance.

    Gym Leaders

Katy

The Bug-type gym leader of Cortondo.

Brassius

The Grass-type gym leader of Artazon.

Iono

The Electric-type gym leader of Levincia.
  • Height Insult: Turns out that overlay of her that pops up during her Gym Test isn't Painting the Medium, but instead her actual height. The team is quick to dig into her over it.
  • Machine Monotone: The voice Derek gives her with the use of a voice changer sounds close to a text-to-speech program due to the flat inflection he gives her. Invoked, as he was trying to sound similar to the TikTok TTS.
  • Opponent Instruction: Has a problem with saying out loud which Pokemon or moves she hopes Peppy doesn't use, and is then shocked when he does just that.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: After someone comments her hair colors resemble the trans flag, she goes out of her way to clarify she's transphobic.

Kofu

The Water-type gym leader of Cascarrafa
  • "Groundhog Day" Loop: Causes one to happen after he loses to Peppy (in actuality the game had crashed).
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: It's jokingly suggested that the overly-excited older woman NPC right behind Kofu during his fight is the one REALLY causing the time loop, just because she's so big of a fan of Kofu that she doesn't want to see him lose.
  • Make Wrong What Once Went Right: The crash that happens after the first fight against Kofu is contextualized as him resetting the timeline to get another chance to win. And considering some of his Pokémon get a move in when they were previously steamrolled over, he almost succeeds.
  • Sequential Boss Fight: Inadvertently becomes this when the game crashes after defeating him the first time, forcing the team to fight him again with a couple more close shaves than last time.

Larry

The Normal-type gym leader of Medali

Ryme

The Ghost-type gym leader of Montenevera
  • Hero Killer: Ryme's battle takes out four Pokemon, coming dangerously close to a Total Party Wipe. Her Toxtricity alone has the dubious honor of taking out the most team members this season on its own, killing GrAce and Hannah with a Discharge and inflicting Blorpido with paralysis before landing a deadly Hex.
  • Silver Fox: Everyone can't help but notice Ryme's curves, thanks to how tight her dress is. Most of the group isn't really attracted to her, though... besides Hannah.

Tulip

The Psychic-type gym leader of Afronada

Grusha

The Normal-type gym leader of Glaciado
  • Breather Boss: After three consecutive Gyms of massive losses, DA CHEFF swept his team with little effort.

    Team Star Bosses

Atticus

A Poison-Type specialist and the boss of the Navi Squad
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: Despite having a very severe level disadvantage to the team by the time they fought him, his Starmobile kills Grunpilo, who in particular had a whopping thirteen level advantage.
  • Sophisticated as Hell: Played for Laughs as after line after line of flowery language, he gives up and just yells "Fine, take truck!" as he unleashes his Starmobile onto Peppy.

Ortega

A Fairy-Type specialist and the boss of the Ruchbah Squad
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: He isn't able to kill him, but he pulls this on Joe by exploiting his own Seed Sower ability to keep using Steel Roller when he'd normally only use it once.

Eri

A Fighting-Type specialist and the boss of the Caph Squad
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Greets Peppy while eating a cold, plain bagel with no cream cheese as a power move. Everyone is weirded out by it and her flashback reveals that her friends told her it was a dumb idea, but she did it anyway.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Due to her status as That One Boss, Peppy and the team enter her fight shitting themselves in fear. To their absolute shock, Brady destroys her entire team, all on his own.
