Trivia / Pokémon Friendlocke

  • Approval of God: Saltydkdan, the creator of the series, found this very TV Tropes page on May 18th, releasing a tweet about it soon after, which can be found here.
  • Canon Welding: Since Red appears in SnapCube's "Ghost Drive" video as Sauerkraut, Derek says that that was Sauerkraut and the video takes place in the same universe.
  • Channel Hop: The series was initially streamed on Twitch, but following some issues regarding Salty's unexpected suspension after the debut of season 2, the second episode was instead streamed on YouTube. It was a success, to a point where even after the issue with Twitch was fixed, he'd ultimately carry on future streams on YouTube instead. The Friendlocke would eventually return to Twitch starting Season 2 Stream 6 before switching back to YouTube for Season 3.
  • Content Leak: Several thumbnails for the official series were shared on Twitter days before the episodes actually came out.
  • He Also Did: Despite the Friendlocke's popularity, Salty is primarily known for other sorts of content on his channel.
  • Killed by Request: Coach Cos the Luxray decided to go into Unova's Elite 4 by herself knowing the risks because Chrissy wanted the character to have a big moment where she dies on her own terms. This was also motivated by health matters Chrissy had to deal with at the time.
    • Gerbicycle 2 killed Jayyweed on the first turn of Ryme's gym battle because "Jay thought it would have been funny". The deaths of GrAce, Hannah u, and Blorpoido were unplanned and unexpected.
  • Troubled Production: Downplayed; not long after the debut of season #2, Salty was suspended off Twitch out of the blue. While he was able to get his account back after a few days thanks to him, his friends, and fans pestering the website and their support staff to undo the issue, it ultimately led to a Channel Hop for the series, switching from being Twitch-based to YouTube-based.
  • What Could Have Been: Had it not been found on the same route, there's a chance Joe could have spent the entire first series as a Wurmple instead of as the Whismur line.
    • Speaking of Joe, there's a chance Mal would have been a Lampent had Derek not summoned the wrong person (Joe) at the wrong time.
    • Of course, given the randomness in Wild Pokémon battles, this applies in just about every character. Lampshaded in some of the more notable cases, where someone ended up as a weak Pokémon when stronger Pokémon were available for capture, like Gerber being brought back as an Oddish from the Safari Zone of all places. This trait is ramped up in Black, since it's also running with a Randomizer.
    • Collin was literally one encounter away from being an Illumise again.
    • Before the announcement of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, Season 3 was originally going to take place in the Gen 4 remakes.
