It's the second one, I think. It is a position that can be held by more than one person, but I meant her specific job as deputy to the Sherrif. So like this:

  • In "Desperate Souls", there is a scene where Emma, after having been fired as the town deputy, confides her frustrations to Gold. This eventually leads Emma to say "I don't know what chance I have. She's mayor, and I'm... well... me." when describing her rivalry with Regina, which raised more than a few eyebrows in the fandom.

Something I want to add to the Birthday Party Goes Wrong page, under Western Animation...

  • The Pingu episode "Pingu's Birthday" had a mild case. At Pingu's birthday party, the kids play "Blind Man's Bluff", with Pingu being the blindfolded one trying to find the other guests. But as he keeps playing, the others keep getting out of his way or redirecting him to something else, and after a while Pingu feels unhappy that he's not winning the game. Fortunately, when his mother comes out with the birthday cake, Pingu instantly cheers up and enjoys the rest of his birthday.

@ Batman (1966): Rogues Gallery

    Professor Charm

Professor Charm

Played by: Martin Kosleck
An inventor who sells Riddler a dangerous weapon.
  • Karmic Jackpot: After Charm's conscience makes him return stolen charity funds that Riddler paid for his invention, Bruce promises to help him achieve his dream of scientific recognition by getting the local institution to lower its educational standards and let him in despite his lack of a diploma.
  • Tragic Dropout: Charm is a brilliant scientist, but his career has been stalled for decades because he never finished high school.

    Freddy "The Fence" Touché

Freddy the Fence

Played by:' Jacques Bergerac
A fencing instructor who also fences stolen goods.
  • Affably Evil: He maintains a charming demeanor even as he's fighting the villains or trying to back lopsided deals to dispose of stolen goods.
  • Back for the Finale: He's the only minor villain to show up working for two separate villains. The first is Catwoman in season 2. The second is Minerva in the series finale.

    Neila

Neila

played by: Grace Lee Whitney
One of King Tut's handmaidens and accomplices.
  • Ignored Enamored Underling: She's open about loving Tut in spite of his flaws, and he's equally open about not returning her feelings.
  • Hazy-Feel Turn: She tries to help Tut's kidnapping victim escape, but mainly does this to remove a romantic rival.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: She asks what will happen to her after the defeat of Tut's gang and the rescue of her prisoner. Robin tells her not to worry, but doesn't answer her question.

    Royal Jester and Lord Chancellor

Royal Jester and Lord Chancellor

Played by: Tim O'Kelly and Lloyd Haynes
Two amnesiac Yale students who join King Tut's gang.
  • Ambiguous Situation: They seemingly suffer the same delusions as King Tut after the three of them are hit on the head by falling flowerpots. However, their advice to Tut seems greedy and clear-headed rather than delusional and subservient, raising the question of whether they're faking it.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: If they really were amnesiac, they aren't brought back to normal at the end of their two-parter, leaving their fate unclear.

    Shirley

Shirley

Played by: Patti Gilbert
One of King Tut's Molls, and not the brightest of the bunch.
  • Cute, but Cacophonic: Her voice is less attractive than the rest of her.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: She seems like The Load and The Ditz at first, after Batgirl defeats Tut's male goons, Shirley she sneaks up behind her after she defeats Tut's male goons and whacks her over the head with a vase.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: She sneaks off as Tut and his gang fight with all three heroes. She doesn't get far though, as she's seen handcuffed in Commissioner Gordon's office in the next scene.

    Undine

Undine

Played by: Sivi Aberg
A woman who helps Joker with his plan to corrupt the youth of Gotham by becoming a surfing champion.
  • Light Is Not Good: She's a pale, blonde woman with a white swimsuit, but she's one of Joker's more ruthless Molls.
  • Shoe Phone: She contacts Joker by using a phone disguised as a hot dog. Deconstructed when Batman and Robin pick up on this after a scene or two.
  • Walking Swimsuit Scene: She spends all of her screen time in a two piece bikini, although she does work at the beach.

A disloyal associate of Lord Ffogg (SPOILERS)

Lady Prudence Ffogg

Played by: Lyn Peters
Lord Ffogg's ambitious daughter.
  • Faux Action Girl: The school she attends teaches judo, but Lady Prudence never uses it against anyone.
  • Insistent Terminology: Her father and aunt always call her Lady Prudence instead of just Prudence.
  • Manipulative Bitch: She pretends to be an innocent teenager who dislikes her father and aunt's criminal actions, but she's really just trying to get her relatives arrested so their wealth and lands will pass to her.
  • Villainesses Want Heroes: While she's using Robin, she does seem to show some genuine affection for him during her arrest.

    Basil

Basil

Played by: Monte Landis
Lord Ffogg's butler and enforcer.
  • Battle Butler: Basil is Ffogg's butler and is also a thug who repeatedly clashes with Batman.
  • Exact Eavesdropping: He's constantly eavesdropping (or at least attempting to eavesdrop) on friends and enemies alike.
  • Murder Is the Best Solution: Basil's first reaction to hearing that Batman is visiting the family mansion is to suggest having the chauffeur and footman dig a grave out back.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Scowls and sneers are the only facial expressions Basil seems to know.

    Fred

Fernando Ricardo Enrique Dominguez aka Fred

Played by: Barry Dennen
One of Shame's henchmen, a well-spoken snarker.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Fred has a Hispanic name but an English accent, and is played by a non-Hispanic actor. This extends to the show itself, where Shame repeatedly expresses confusion about whether Fred is Mexican.
  • Sarcastic Devotee: Fred follows Shame loyally, but constantly uses big words to dryly insult his plans and intelligence.

    Suleiman the Great

Suleiman the Great

Played by: Joe E. Tata
A member of Tut's final gang.
  • Cool Shades: He's a flashy thug who wears very dark glasses.
  • Professional Butt-Kisser: He and Tut's Moll Florence get into a competition trying to come up with more flowery honorifics to shower upon King Tut. Suleiman comes out on top with "Don Juan of Aswan."

Hi fellas. It's me again. Let's have another try.

Two Headscratchers for Cobra Kai:

  • Back in season 2, Moon broke up with Hawk due to becoming a bully under Cobra Kai's influence. She was seen shortly thereafter dating a girl, whose name is revealed in this season to be Piper. While looking for potential Eagle Fang students, Johnny and Miguel try to recruit her, but she ends up joining Cobra Kai thanks to Silver's merchandise. The thing is, however, that when she fights Samantha, Piper assures her that Cobra Kai has taught her no mercy, proving that she will do anything to defeat her. Then why did Moon fall for Piper in the first place? She explicitly told Hawk that she didn't date bullies...
  • How did Silver know exactly the moment Stingray was going to wake up at the hospital and tell the detective that Kreese was the one who beat him up? Somehow, despite Stingray clearly telling the detective in the morning, the police waits until Silver and Kreese are alone at the former's house to arrest the latter. Couldn't the police have interrupted the All-Valley Tournament to arrest Kreese then and there, in front of all their Cobra Kai students?

[up] While I can't make any English suggestions, I do question whether the one about Piper belongs in Headscratchers since 1) most fans find her Obliviously Evil and don't consider her comment about Sam bullying and 2) Cobra Kai is a show where lots of sympathetic characters get negative Character Development, although it doesn't always last.

If it's an official title, then it's capitalized (e.g. "She is the Town Deputy"), like "Chief of Police".

If it's a common term, it isn't capitalized (i.e. "She is a town deputy").

...delusions as King Tut after the three of them are hit on the head by falling flowerpots.

Hi fellas. It's me again. Let's have another try.

Two other Headscratchers for Cobra Kai:

  • When Hawk's former Cobra Kai classmates assault him at the tattoo parlor, where did tattoo artist go? It seems a bit strange that he/she left a client alone at the ship.
  • After weeks of bullying, the school's staff suspend Anthony and his friends for bullying Kenny. When did they become so useful? If they could track down bullies by doing research and asking witnesses, then how the school finds out when Anthony and his friends bullied Kenny but didn't find out about the bullying some students were forced to endure at the hands of Kyler and his friends back in season 1?

Some character tropes for Despair Island:

  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul:
    • Trent was Gwen's first boyfriend in canon, falling in love with him upon his arrival at the island. Here, Gwen and Trent don't get along at all, with Trent disliking Gwen's moody attitude and pesimism. Trent even votes her off after Justin sets Gwen up. Justified given the situation in the story, though.
    • Cody was good friends with Gwen in canon. Here, Gwen immediately takes a dislike for Cody due to Cody's perverted tendencies and obsessions with sex, calling him out for saying things like "whore" and getting angry at her teammates for sparing him from elimination. However, she does forgive him for all his wrongdoings when Zolkoff executes her.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul:
    • Gwen was Trent's girlfriend in canon, taking a liking for her upon his arrival at the island. Here, Trent doesn't tolerate Gwen because of her moody attitude and pesimism, calling her out for not caring when Katie gets lost in the woods and even voting Gwen off after Justin sets her up, remarking that Gwen proved to be a "one twisted bitch".
    • Cody was Trent's best friend in the Screaming Gophers in canon. Here, Trent dislikes Cody for his perverted tendencies and obsessions with sex. He does warm up to him when Cody tries to tone down his behaviour a bit, but ultimately votes him off after Justin sets Cody up.

And some Fridge Horror for Legacy (Total Drama) and Despair Island:

@ White God

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: The homeless man who hides Hagen from animal control, then turns around and sells him to the middleman for a dog fighting ring.
  • These Hands Have Killed: In a rare animal version, Hagen is clearly distraught after being forced to kill his opponent in a dog fight.
  • Villains Want Mercy: The trainer at the dog fights recognizes Hagen/Max as he's being attacked by the pack, and calls out his name in a pleading tone. All he gets back from the dog he abused so horribly is a growl.
@ The Tomb of Dracula

    Inspector Chelm

Inspector George Chelm

First appearance: Tomb of Dracula #3 (July, 1972)
A Scotland Yard inspector who encounters Frank, Rachel, and Taj during their first hunt together. He goes on to play a role in several of their further paranormal encounters.
  • Bald Of Awesome: Chelm is a bald, brave Reasonable Authority Figure who is involved in several clashes with vampires.
  • Friend on the Force: Chelm initially arrests Frank and the others for murder, but after seeing evidence that vampires are real, he lets them go. He proceeds to help them in several later issues when their mission brings them to London.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Chelm is rarely if ever seen without a nice suit.
@ The Tomb of Dracula new page.
  • Quincy and Rachel's entire relationship brings a lot of light and comfort to such a dark series. He raises her as a second daughter after Dracula kills her parents and shows a lot of emotion whenever he needs to save her life. He cares more about protecting her than getting revenge on his archenemy Dracula. When he's in poor health during the second half of the series, he shows concern about Rachel being taken care of and on a path to happiness after he's gone.
  • Dracula and Lilith's rare Pet the Dog moments (Dracula protecting the occasional kid, Lilith trying to let the woman whose body she's possessing live her own life, etc.) invariably make a good impression on fans.
@ The Tomb of Dracula
  • Hero of Another Story: Dr. Mortte from the eighth issue has spent several years as a vampire, living off blood donations while clinging to his humanity and genuinely working for the welfare of his patients.
@ The Tomb of Dracula
  • One-Scene Wonder: The two cruise ship passengers who resist Dracula in the tenth issue (one with a gun, one with a crucifix). While that issue is mainly remembered for being the debut of Blade, they make a decent impression even though one of them dies and neither has much dialogue.
@ Jeeves and Wooster
  • The same episode features a woman at the fair who breaks a coconut by throwing a baseball at it. This inspires Bertie to bet on her to win the "Test Your Strength" Game. Unfortunately, she does too well, breaking off the bell at the top, causing the event to be cancelled.
@ The Cape
  • Fleming hires two assassins, Goggles and Hicks, to kill the Cape. When they ask who he wants killed, Fleming shows them a copy of the comic book that inspired the Cape's identity. Goggles initially thinks Fleming is hiring them to kill the comic's author.
@ Psych S 03 E 12 Earth Wind And Wait For It
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Chief Trombly comes across as rude and untrustworthy at first, but he's shown giving an educational presentation for a bunch of kids. Also, his suspicious behavior is because he suspects that a close friend and colleague of his may be setting the fires. When he walks in on his friend setting a fire, a horrified Trombly asks what he's doing, and bravely tries to beat out the fire with his jacket.
@ Drop Dead Gorgeous
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Tammy is a varsity soccer player and track runner, the president of a gun club, smokes, and enjoys driving her father's thresher. She's also competing in a beauty pageant and is a favorite to win.
@ Psych S 02 E 09 Bounty Hunters
  • Anti-Villain: Byrd the Bounty Hunter is a thug and a jerk, but Shawn and Gus aren't exactly giving him much reason to treat them well due to how they're trying to muscle in on the job that's meant to pay for his retirement just so they can live out a childhood fantasy.
  • Let No Crisis Go to Waste: When Cole's home is burglarized, he takes advantage of this to kill his wife and blame it on the burglar.
  • Liar Revealed: Henry realizes that Dwayne is lying about knowing his son from camp when he talks about what a stickler for the rules the notoriously rambunctious Shawn was.
  • The Un-Reveal: It's never revealed why Cole killed his wife.
@ Scream
  • Fanon Discontinuity:
    • Some fans prefer to see the original movie as a standalone story and ignore the killing sprees from the sequels.
    • The 2022 film can inspire a little of this due to the absence of the late Wes Craven.
@ Redshirts
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • The main cast spends most of their time actively avoiding Kerensky until the third act. Nonetheless, fans like him quite a bit for being a humorous Handsome Lech who at least tries to befriend the main characters and has a surprisingly emotional drunken speech about how messed up his life is due to factors he can't begin to understand.
    • Dahl's lab mate Mbeke is no less of a Dirty Coward and Cargo Cult member than the rest of the veteran crew members, but she still has some fans due to having some good lines and not being as bad as some of the others.

  • Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker has the theme of Ultima Thule start off as a distorted instrumental "Echoes in the Distance," showing you're in this hellish alien world born of the despair of untold worlds at the end of the universe. After Estinien sacrifices himself to allow the Scions and the Warrior of Light to cross over to the next island, the music changes to the instrumental version of "Close in the Distance." This lasts until the sacrifice of G'raha Tia, when the lyrics finally kick in. The Warrior of Light has to watch their two closest friends, Alphinaud and Alisaie sacrifice themselves to Meteion, leaving them utterly alone, yet still marching towards the end against their strongest battle yet.

For Wrestle Angels:

  • Mythology Gag: While the V series remakes can be considered as a Negative Continuity to the original ones (with the Survivor series and Ai being the Negative Continuity to the status quo-breaking events in previous installments) for the sake of Status Quo Is God, there are always some general (but dubiously canon) references to the earlier games:
    • In an episode in the official Yonkoma series Harikiri Kiriko-San in the Wrestle Angels Ai website, both Megumi and Chigusa see a beautiful wedding dress. Chigusa compliments the dress and Megumi quickly makes a negative assumption that her best friend will leave her behind if she gets married. Due to her jealousy and negative assumption, Megumi says that the wedding dress isn't suitable for Chigusa. However, Chigusa says that dress is beautiful and thinks that it suits Megumi, resulting in a hilarious misunderstanding where Megumi blushes and asks if Chigusa still wants to wear a tuxedo instead (much to Chigusa's confusion). This is actually a reference to Wrestle Angels 3's in-game plotline event, where Chigusa decides to get married when she wants to retire from wrestling.
    • Another one in Harikiri Kiriko-San, where Succubus Manabe finds Panther Risako's swimsuit in a cardboard box when settling the cardboard boxes full of wrestlers' old stuff and selecting which stuff should be gotten rid off. That swimsuit looks slightly similar to Panther Risako's wrestling costume in the first game.

@Arivne

Will this do

For Dexter: New Blood

  • Call-Back: When Harrison confronts his father Dexter, he says the line, "Open your eyes and look at what you've done!", which is similar to the line from the original series premiere when Dexter confronts Mike Donovan and says "Open your eyes and look at what you did!"

  • My God, What Have I Done?: Dexter realizes that he crossed the line and broke the code after his son Harrison confronts him and reminds him of the terrible things he had done and many innocent lives lost because of him, so he allows Harrison to kill him.

Thanks Arivne.

I can guarantee that my next post will hav fewer mistakes, although that's only because of how short it is (I don't even have time to edit yesterday's stuff until tomorrow).

@ The Ashes Series

@ The End of the World
  • The Woobie: Caesar/Charlie's father is murdered when he's nine, his mother commits suicide, and he's emotionally bullied by both adults and children in the community home due to being perceived as an anti-Rebellion defeatist. When he comes around to their way of thinking, they still vote him into the first Quarter Quell and taunt him about it. He loses several allies he is close to before winning and is too traumatized to return to the district that voted him into the quell. He becomes the new host of the Hunger Games to try and protect and comfort the kids, but feels their grief, fear, and deaths keenly. He isn't allowed to take time off from hosting the games to be with his wife on her death bed. His daughter and son-in-law are killed for plotting against Snow, and he isn't allowed to adopt his granddaughter. Finally, he's executed in Coin's Reign of Terror, and an edited video tape is used to make him think that Peeta (who Caesar has been kind and supportive to throughout the story) is reveling in his execution, which causes Caesar's last moments to be sad ones.
@ Sweet Smell of Success
  • Break the Cutie: Falco's girlfriend Rita, after he prostitutes her out to another columnist without telling her in advance to further one of Sidney's schemes.
  • Death by Adaptation: Sidney's beating at Kello's hands is fatal in the musical adaptation, but not in the film.
@ Cheating Death: Those That Lived
  • Awesome Ego: While Jack can barely go a chapter without referring to himself as a "master thief," it's a boast that he's fully capable of living up to.
