Since let's plays are usually video-based, the target namespace is usually WebVideo/. However, some are text-based, and the consensus was to handle the namspacing of those on a case-by-case basis, with Blog/, Fanfic/, and Literature/ brought up as potential targets.
Before any given article is transplanted, we should confirm that it meets the standards for being a TV Tropes work article. Note that these often serve as hybrid articles for their creators in much the same way as the Music namespace. If there is insufficient content, the articles end up becoming about the creators, violating our "no troping real people" policy.
The crucial question is whether the article has any tropable, creative content. This means that it's more than just "Alisha plays games and makes faces." What counts as tropable, creative content? Here are some examples.
- Creating a fictional/roleplaying narrative that is distinct from the game being played or the real person doing the LP.
- Using the game as a medium to craft original content: songs, videos, machinima, and so on.
- "MST'ing" or creatively riffing on the game's content, as long as it's sufficiently transformative.
What are not criteria for a tropable Let's Play by themselves?
- Adopting a quirky personality, cracking jokes, making funny faces, or overreacting to jump scares.
- Cosplaying, playing with toys, unboxing merchandise, etc.
- Having a "gimmick" that makes them stand out, such as a repeated Catchphrase, eating loudly on microphone, or calling their viewers "Doggo fam".
- Playing games in a particular way (speedrunning, evil runs, no-kill runs, etc.) that fall within what it is possible to do in the game itself, with or without mods.
- Modding the game.
- Being very popular.
- Having lots of memes arise in their fandom.
Note that the same general principles apply to any Web Video creator, especially those whose main work is in news, reviews, vlogging, and/or reaction videos.
There are a few outliers that will need to be handled on a case-by-case basis.
- After-Action Report: I would move it to literature, although it could be considered fanfic.
- Liveblogs, which are probably not tropable.
Web Video cleanup sandbox
This project has several purposes related to all things Web Video:
- Cleaning up the WebVideo index
- Cleaning up the WebVideo/ namespace to move pages that belong elsewhere
- Cleaning up individual Web Video pages that have massive issues
Overview
The easy-seeming part when I started on Web Video (the index) was just removing things not even located in the namespace— found in Creator, Film, Web Animation, etc. Then I started noticing there were many things put in Web Video (the namespace) that were basically Creator pages, lots of Let's Play, other video game streaming that doesn't currently have an index, other misuses in index and/or namespace placement...
- original live action, meaning not animated or reusing existing footage;
- narrative/creative, a bit unclear, but it's not someone simply reviewing another work/reacting to other works/playing through another work;
- a work, which is... a work, not a creator.
Reaction channels tend to straddle a line here, but are not generally tropable unless they create some sort of distinct creative endeavor rather than stare at a video and laugh a bit. Also it helps if they are reacting to fiction, not to real life. The latter may be entertaining but falls into the same general category as gossip. We can trope these only for their use of production and artistic tropes, not for their topics.
-
No Analysis Channel index— corrected! - No index for non-Let's Play video game streaming unless they're on Twitch. If they don't fall into the Let's Play format and aren't on Twitch, where do they go?
- No
Gag Dub orGag Sub index - Where should we put channels based on prank calls, scam-baiting, other audio-based things where the video is incidental?
Pages identified for cleanup:
- A Dose of Buckley — see this ATT for more info
- The Mysterious Mr. Enter and subpages — issues include troping the creator and not the works
- The Nostalgia Critic and subpages — see this project thread
- Smosh and subpages — Smosh is a channel, and the pages have multiple works (may need a hard split)
- Thomas Sanders — Creator, lots of biographical details, previously hard split for Sanders Sides but may need another
See also:
- Cleanup: Review/Let's Play YMMV Tropes
- TLP: Actual Play genre/index
Just the index cleanup itself is a considerable project, figuring out what stays and what needs a different index, but there are also many pages with significant issues to clean. This is a very big project, but I've seen other people notice these issues, too. I hope we can at least get the index under control.
( For clarity and re: review stuff. Continue to edit as things occur that are useful to keep at the top of the thread.)

Did a bunch of cleanup to Technoblade, it should be fine to transplant now (though when we get to changing wicks if there's any inappropriate IRL off-page things we should remove those too, obviously)

LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLiveWhile discussing an Unintentionally Unsympathetic entry on the relevant cleanup thread, it was mentioned that the entry cited a Youtuber (specifically, FU DW) whose entire shtick is bashing the character in question. The character is a four-year-old girl in a kids show, and the trope entries include things like comparing her to Hitler, mocking her for being "so illiterate, she should change her middle name to Can't" and implicitly calling her the C word.
For one thing, is this even tropable? As one subpage puts it, "The series is essentially listening to a grown man yell at a fictional preschooler".
Edited by UFOYeah on Oct 25th 2023 at 6:44:55 AM
It sounds like deliberate Ron the Death Eater for laughs (the description compares it to Zack Morris is Trash), but in both cases, it depends on whether the entries are troping real opinions or the exaggerated facts and jokes made up for the video.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Technoblade has been transplanted I cutlisted the redirect but it might get declined because it has a lot of inbounds, I guess we'll see
Anyways, onto another topic — I'd like to bring up Slimecicle, I think we need to figure out how much is actually left besides the stuff for Slimecicle Cinematic Universe, which I still think warrants its own page being a distinct series, and if what's left is Real Life Troping / reaction troping or actually worth keeping.
Here's what I'm seeing left over after removing SCU examples. I'm not sure how much of this is valid/not RL troping, just listing the ones that are specifically not about SCU.
- Bait-and-Switch: During Cuphead's Perilous Piers level, Slimecicle panics as the octopus that's carrying Cuphead suddenly descends into the water. Slimecicle quickly makes Cuphead jump out of the octopus and tries to make it to the bridge. As Cuphead dashes barely towards the bridge, the video goes into slow motion while an excerpt of "Say Something" plays before cutting into black and Slimecicle whimpering, indicating Cuphead has missed the jump. Then, it cuts to Cuphead reaching the goal.
Slimecicle: Nah, I made it though.
- Chaotic Stupid: Charlie can be this sometimes, like when he teleported every single entity (both players and mobs) in his Minecraft server to himself. Twice. — This one might actually be SCU, I can't tell
- Foreshadowing:
- At the ending of "Inside the Mind of an Ashe Player", a kazoo cover of ''Lifelight'' is being played. Eventually, "Inside the Mind of a Mario Player" is uploaded, signifying that this series will be expanded to other videos games.
- His Dead Space playthrough has some of the most comically blatant instances of this:
- When beats up the Unknown Horror Spiral in chapter 4: "The spiral of unknown horror will remember that."
- And when he stops it from dragging him away just minutes later: "The spiral of unknown horror will never cease its hunt."
- Gotta Catch Them All: The reason why Charlie went out to collect every slime in Slime Rancher 2.
- Hope Spot: In their first encounter the Unknown Horror Spiral lets go of Charlie...only to immediately return and crush him to death.
- Hurricane of Puns: Dear lord, yes! Almost every video will feature at least one pun. It's much easier to list the videos that don't have one.
- Hypocritical Humor: When Slime, Skip, and Failboat make it to the Nether in "Minecraft, but everything drops the wrong item", Slime shuts down Skip's idea of attacking a Zombie Pigman to see what they drop. Almost immediately after this and a Smash Cut...
Slime: Oh fuck, is that a pigman, what the hell do those things drop? (attacks another Pigman, leading to the expected result)
- Kick the Dog: When Charlie brought Grace to accompany him on his mission to collect every slime in Slime Rancher 2, she asked to see the chicken he found, which she happily named French Toast. Charlie then proceeded to suck up French Toast and feed it to his slimes, much to Grace's horror.
Charlie: (voice-over) I've never been happier than when French Toast died. Because when I gave up that COCK, I gave up my human soul too.
- Left the Background Music On: Charlie is able to hear the Unknown Horror Spiral's theme music, which also acts as Book Ends: The first time he questions why music is playing before getting unexpectedly grabbed, whereas by the end of Dead Space he's so used to the occurance that upon hearing the music all he can utter is an exasperated "Oh no."
- Magical Incantation: This line at the end of "This is Resident Evil 2", which also supplies the trope's page quote:
Charlie: Oh no...looks like I've gotta use my magic spell, ABRACADBRA ALLACABAUNCHER, I NOW HAVE A ROCKET LAUNCHER!
- Magic Countdown: One part in A Plague Tale: Innocence has Slimecicle trying to slingshot the apples off the tree within ten seconds. Slimecicle's time to complete this task took 16 seconds, but the man who started this mini game acts like Slimecicle has beaten it within the countdown. Slimecicle then says that he's counting it in medieval times.
- Names to Run Away from Really Fast: The Spiral of Unknown Horror / Unknown Horror Spiral.
- Overly Long Gag: After baiting Hugo into a trap for the rats, he slaps on a PRANK'D label and plays a few clips of various stock laughters. For nearly a minute.
- Pet the Dog: Literally. Slimecicle discovers you can pet a dog in A Plague Tale: Innocence, declaring this game to be good. — This is just misuse
- Poke the Poodle: In "This is Spider-Man", when he's Negative Spider-Man, Charlie states instead of stopping crime, he does the most horrendous, disgusting, appalling, awful crimes one can possibly think of: Exclusively Finger Gun!
- Pungeon Master: Slimecicle is quite fond of his puns, much to the chagrin of everyone around him.
- Real After All: The Mario dream in "I Beat Skyrim in VR with 500+ Mods" was revealed to be real twice: First when Charlie realized he was still dressed as Luigi after waking up, and then at the end when Mario enemies show up to help him fight Alduin.
- Rhymes on a Dime: One of Slimecicle's specialties, second only to his Pungeon Master tendencies.
- Rule of Three: Upon stumbling in one of the lab in the remake of Resident Evil 2, he finds three mutated body parts inside each tube and proceeds to make a pun out of it.
Slimecicle: EYE've gotta HAND it to you. This experiment is really-
(He finds an indistinguishable body part)
Slimecicle: I don't know what the fuck that is. - Running Gag: The Unknown Horror Spiral and it singing its actions in his Dead Space playthrough.
- Signature Instrument: The kazoo.
- Stylistic Suck: "so yeah... im a gamer"
- Take That!:
- During his visit at the Luncheon Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey, he travels to the mini isles via Fireball Cappy and exclaims that the Overwatch community has its own island. Said island is called the Salt-Pile Isle.
- In "Inside the Mind of A Joker Player", Slimecicle is glad they went with Persona 5's Joker and not Jared Leto's Joker, as that would've been a real Leto down.
Slimecicle: Does he always have Damaged tattooed onto his forehead? That's like really dumb.
- That Came Out Wrong:
- At the end of "Minecraft, but everything drops the wrong item", Slimecicle is so fed up with everything, he gives a speech that has some extremely unfortunate implications due to the date the video was recorded.
Slimecicle: I pray for a day where I will be l- I will be able to look back, and I will be able to say "I don't remember what happened... on September 11th."
skipthetutorial: Oh, god...
Failboat: (laughs) Oh, no!
Slimecicle: Oh, shi-!
(video cuts off, black screen with caption saying "yikes") - This line in "I Ruined The Scariest Game Ever Made" right before he finishes off the Leviathan:
Charlie: I've got one more thing you can put in your mouth: MY SPECIAL FLAVOR! 'Kay could've phrase that better...
- At the end of "Minecraft, but everything drops the wrong item", Slimecicle is so fed up with everything, he gives a speech that has some extremely unfortunate implications due to the date the video was recorded.
- Too Dumb to Live: There's many instances where Charlie will encounter a situation that will obviously get him killed where he will throw himself at it head first and get killed, though it's of course all played for comedic effect. There's too many instances to count, but some notable examples include:
- Running straight at a snake woman with low health as his "big plan" in Nioh 2.
- Using a live grenade as a bath bomb in Half-Life: Alyx.
- Intentionally jumping onto a moving fan without freezing it in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
- Jumping off a cliff to his death to mimick a fox frolicking away in Ghost of Tsushima.
- Flying straight into an active fanblade to grab loot immediately after insulting a Necromorph for doing the same thing in Dead Space (Remake).
- Your Mom: One of the requested comments for Ridley during "Inside the Mind of a Ridley Player" featured this:
Commentator: Do ridley or i'll down b your mom.

LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLiveIs NoPixel in the right namespace? I would assume not since we don't put things like Dream SMP in Roleplay?
Also, cutlisted another batch of tiny obvious cut pages: Dr Parabola, D Up 242, Gab Smolders, Hamster Alliance, Headless Wonder, Icee TH
Edited by Serilly on Oct 30th 2023 at 6:21:37 AM
LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLiveI feel that should be deleted as it seems to involve a lot of Real Life stuff and recent events show Zaid is guilty of sending death threats so he does not practice what he preached on this page's recount of his videos
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/TearJerker/MLPAnalysis
Either way, good lord, we do not need that giant wall of quote.
Shouldn't The June Archive And Restoration Project be Web Animation? < Edit: I'm gonna move it, I have 0 idea why it's not there already honestly. It's fully animated in Flipnote Studio.

LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLiveSplit Slimecicle Cinematic Universe so now all that's left on Slimecicle is stuff related to his other stuff and we can figure him out easier.
Another option is that we could turn his page into a creator page? He's got a decent amount of works we can list:
Created by him:
Roles:
- Dream SMP
- Epic SMP
- The Funniest Minecraft Videos Ever
- Generation Loss (as Slimecicle/The Spirit, Patient Charlie)
- JaidenAnimations (as the Dungeon Master)
- Origins SMP
- QSMP
- SMPEarth
- SMPLive
- Sorry (2023)

LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLiveI reorganized Lets Play Wick Sorting to be clearer and less of a mess, and redid the numbers
Changed "can probably be..." to "salvageable/unsalvageable", added a folder for pages that need hard splits, sorted weird cases where they actually go and renamed that category to the Yogscast Jail (TM)
As always, encourage other people to sort stuff around in there
I added a link to my signature, lol

LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLiveRemoved some things I felt were Real Life Troping from Dream, George Not Found, DanTDM, Flamingo and stacyplays
If anyone disagrees with any of my removals on those pages feel free to bring them up
LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLiveOkay, elephant in the room aside, I don't think Call Me Carson is actually tropable?
- Amusement Park of Doom: Is alright, I guess.
- Anti-Humor: This is misplaced, it's from a tropable work that has its own page on the wiki, SMPLive. Carson isn't even the one doing the bit, it's Schlatt.
- Crocodile Tears: Real-life troping.
- Cringe Comedy: Not sure on this one.
- Don't Explain the Joke: Not sure on this one, but general example anyways...
- Running Gag: No context and to my knowledge this is more of a SMPLive thing anyways.
- Signature Laugh: Real-life troping.
- So Unfunny, It's Funny: It's alright.
- Surreal Humor: It's alright.
I don't know if what's left is enough to actually make him tropable, especially his newer content which is mostly just playing games since his old content relied heavily on the jokes of his now ex-friends.

LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLiveShouldn't WebVideo.Patricia Taxxon be primarily under Music/? I mean that's what most of her channel is after all.
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectI think so, most of the tropes are about her music
LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLiveBut not all of them are.
Maybe the music tropes could be split off into a Music/ page.
Another batch of Let's Play pages that can almost certainly be cut for being short pages full of RL troping and ZCE:
Minakorocket, Party Cats, Pyschadelic Snake, Splattercat Gaming, The Nova Quest, Vort N Toad
All only have 1 wick at most too barring our sorting sandbox
Also I removed the ZCE/RL troping from Call Me Carson (and moved that one misplaced example to SMPLive), I don't think what's left justifies keeping it tbh

LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLiveI found another entry in the depriciated Let's Play namespace:
Going back to this do we delete the whole page or is some salvageable
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=15967636170A08822400&page=35#comment-857
Is there a reason to keep that separate from Alpharad?
LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLiveCutlisted these since they've now fully been moved to Web Video including page history: Marik Plays Bloodlines, Mindcrack Server, Stellaris Invicta
One troper changed a wick back to Let's Play for Stellaris Invicta but I sent them a notice >_> Would it be edit warring for me to change the namespace back myself, or do I have to wait for them to fix it themselves?
Edited by Serilly on Nov 9th 2023 at 9:42:40 AM
LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLiveSince it’s keeping with site policy, it should probably be fine as long as you link to this thread.
They've edited it back themselves now anyways so we're fine
LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLiveThe other day, Low Tier God was bought up in the ROCEJ thread and the consensus seems to be that nothing he's done is actually tropable, as it's just livestreams and nothing else unless you factor in his infamous behaviour. I'm thinking this can be cut?
EDIT: I've sent the funny subpage to the cut list as it's just real life internet drama and nothing else.
Edited by Atlantis1930 on Nov 11th 2023 at 4:25:01 PM
No, I don't believe LTG is tropable. Looking at the trope list I see almost entirely RL troping.
Does anyone else have any thoughts on if Call Me Carson is tropable after cleanup? I'd like to cutlist it because I don't think he is, but I don't want to without consensus.
LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLiveI don't think he's tropable either. I say cut.
Edited by Atlantis1930 on Nov 11th 2023 at 4:24:51 PM
I'm not sure what to do with The Rageaholic. Like the Drinker and AVGN, he's playing an exaggerated character, though unlike the Drinker I think his persona isn't too far off from how he probably acts.
It's just him stating his opinions, doing rebuttals, and defending controversial figures. I'm not really sure, what do you guys think?
