Sekai no Fushigi (セカイノフシギ , lit. "Wonders of the World") is a YouTube channel where manga is written out and read out loud by various voice actors. It stars different characters albeit with similar names. The English channel is here. The original Japanese channel is here.


Sekai No Fushigi contains examples of:

  • Abandon the Disabled: Ten days after Riku loses control of his legs after getting caught in an explosion at his workplace, his girlfriend, Mami, breaks up with him while he is recovering in the hospital, claims that he is selfish just for telling her to get a job, refuses to help him recover, and leaves him to fend for himself. A year later, Mami tries to back with Riku after learning that he is able to walk again and has started his own company. However, he refuses, telling that he has a new girlfriend and that he has not forgiven her for abandoning him when he needed her help the most. Mami refuses to apologize for what happened, telling him that it was his fault she broke up with him. Suddenly, Riku's girlfriend, Satsuki, steps in front of her and prepares to slap her, only stopping right before hitting Mami's face. Satsuki then orders Mami to leave, telling her that she has no idea what Riku had to go through and that she deserves no sympathy from him.
  • Academia Elitism:
    • Kouki dropped out of highschool to take care of his sister, Karin, after their parents died. While Karin managed to graduate high school, Kouki never went. Because of this, Karin's fiancé, Takeru, refuses to allow Kouki to attend the wedding because he doesn't want people knowing that he has a high school dropout in his family. While Karin reluctantly agrees at first, she eventually decides not to marry Takeru when she overhears him refusing to change his mind even after Kouki begs him.
    • Mio's brother-in-law, who graduated one of the best colleges in Japan and works at a prestigious firm in Kyoto, looks down on others, including Mio's boyfriend, Riku, for not going to college and for working at a restaurant. When the brother-in-law gets caught cheating on his wife by her family at the restaurant Riku works at, He blames Riku for ruining his life and threatens to sue him. However, he then learns from the restaurant owner and Nao that Riku is one of restaurant's top chefs and that he makes more money than the brother-in-law does.
  • A-Cup Angst: When Nashida tags along at the pool with Koki, Goto, and their relatives, she falls to her knees upon seeing not only Goto's beauty outside of work, but also her large breasts compared to her flat chest.
  • Accidental Public Confession: After finding out that Hayato was actually the son of a rich family and became the CEO of his own company in the middle of her wedding with Mr. Iroki, Rika lets it slip that she wouldn't have broken up with him if he had told her that he was rich.
  • Age-Gap Romance: Hinata, who is 18 years old married Kaito who is at least 10 years older than her.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: After her wedding with Mr. Iroki, the last scene of Rika is at the beach, crying and begging her husband to forgive her after he vowed to give her a modest life when he realized she's a gold digger.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Mami breaks up with Haruto just because he stopped his car when someone was tailgating them. He later finds out that she currently dates Morita because he looks tough. However, Morita turns out to be the person who was tailgating Haruto and Mami. In the end, Morita ends up getting fired for trying to tailgate Haruto's company president after his company temporarily changed the supplier from Morita's company to another company.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: When Adachi threatens to sic her daddy on Kudo for calling her out on her numerous screwups, Kudo responds with a similar threat of his own and reveals his "daddy" is the CEO Yoshimune Kudo. Adachi and her father get fired afterward.
  • Amnesiac Lover: Aina lost her memories when she got involved in an accident, including memories of her boyfriend, Haruto. Her parents took advantage of the situation to prevent their marriage, preferring her to be married to Ichinose, a rich man. Haruto briefly gave up, but Atsushi convinces him to come back to the hospital and he was able to get Aina to fall back in love with him. At the end of the story, Haruto and Aina get married, although Aina still hasn't regained her memories.
  • Attempted Homewrecker: Minori is Haruto's ex-girlfriend, who he broke up with for using people. When Haruto ends up in the hospital, Minori is assigned to be his nurse, and she wastes no time insulting and spreading rumors about him. Minori's tune changes when she learns that Haruto became rich and successful, and she tries to get back with him. Haruto rejects her, as he has a girlfriend who has come to visit. When Minori sees that his new girlfriend, Yuka, has smaller breasts, she tries to use her larger breasts (Big-Breast Pride, Buxom Beauty Standard) to entice Haruto into getting back together. Unfortunately for Minori, not only does Haruto refuse, Yuka is also the daughter of the hospital's owner AKA, Minori's boss, and it's all but stated that Yuka has Minori fired for unprofessional behavior.
  • Benevolent Boss:
    • Yuuji's boss is kind to him and encourages him to join a bigger company to expand his skills and appreciates everything he did for his company. Even after Yuuji left the company, his former boss also supports his relationship with his daughter so they can be family.
    • Tsubasa's boss is very understanding about Tsubasa's condition regarding his baby sister, Mana, being abandoned by her mother, he urges Tsubasa to keep working for the company and allows him to bring Mana to work, despite knowing that the baby could interrupt the work environment.
    • Tencho was good boss to his employees. When he found out about Yuuka's debt caused by her brother Ayumu damaging a car, he decided to let them move into his house and set Ayumu straight and gave him a job to pay off his debt.
  • Big Brother Bully: Cousin variant. Takashi hated his cousin Kenta for being the heir instead of him and stole his girlfriend, Mari, to get back at him. However, their grandpa has had enough of Takashi's BS and had him fired after marrying Mari.
  • Big Eater: Satsuki loves to eat a lot of food and her stomach always growls. At the end of the episode, she worked at Oda's restaurant.
  • Big "NO!":
    • Miyuki lets one out and breaks down crying when Daisuke cancels the wedding after learning of her past affair with a married man.
    • Tokui and Akane both let one out when they found out that Sir Zaitsu, the old man they were making fun of a few days earlier, is one of their company's most important clients and his family threatens to report them to upper management for mocking him.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Mami is firstly described as a "friendly person with a kind smile", but Riku's suspicions of her fakery got proven right when Yuriko, her older sister, exposes the former's malice through the wedding speech.
  • Bitter Wedding Speech: Yuriko uses it to expose her younger sister Mami's true self. Doubles as "The Reason You Suck" Speech.
  • Blaming the Cuckold: Uwaki brags about stealing his coworker Itakura's girlfriend, claiming that Itakura was at fault for being a loser who let his girlfriend be taken away. To Uwaki's shock, people are disgusted by him and rightfully blame him for choosing to go after another guy's girlfriend and the girlfriend for choosing to cheat on her boyfriend.
  • Bullying the Disabled:
    • Hidoi looks down on and insults Minoru for being disabled and sitting on a wheelchair despite knowing that he risked his own life to save someone named Hayate. During a date with her fiancé, she sees Minoru at the restaurant, she immediately starts to insult him and Hayate in front of her fiancé. Unfortunately for her, her fiancé doesn't like how she treats disabled people and Hayate's father also confronts her directly. Later, Hidoi's fiancé later breaks off their engagement for her behavior.
    • Riku's sister-in-law and her husband constantly look down on him because he is not able to use his left arm after an accident occurred at his former workplace. They even keep telling his wife, Miyo, to divorce him and find someone else. One day, when he shows to up to the TV station where they work after being invited to a meeting, they both accuse him of wanting to borrow money and using their connections to find a job and tell him to go home. However, Mr. Sakai, one of producers, angrily confronts them about their behaviour, revealing that the station invited Riku for a meeting. He then reports the incident to the station's chief, who scolds them for what they did and transfers them to another department that had nothing to do with any tv show production.
  • Cat Girl: Most stories in the Japanese version and early stories in the English version feature Shuu, a cat girl at the end of videos who also gives her final thoughts on the story.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: The CEO of the linen service company that Riku Takegiri works at is a jerk to his employees and is known for always trying to cut corners, such as telling his employees to throw the sheets that look clean in the finished pile without checking if they are actually clean. In addition, his family, who also work at the company and are nice to the employees, are always cleaning up after his messes. One day, he skipped town with his mistress and took all of the company's money with him, abandoning his family and his company, with the company going out of business a few months later.
  • Creature of Habit: After seeing his girlfriend's brother-in-law cheating on his wife, Nao, with another woman at the restaurant he works at, Riku checks the reservation list and discovers that the man dines at the restaurant almost every Friday. He also learns from one of the staff that the brother-in-law always comes with the same woman. After telling Mio and Nao about this, Nao, having suspected something was happening due to her husband's jacket always smelling like perfume every Friday, decides to make a reservation for her, Mio, and their parents at the same restaurant for the following Friday so she can catch her husband in the act.
  • Delicate and Sickly: Koki has a illness during his childhood which caused him to miss school a lot and he didn't make it to high school. Fortunately, he got a surgery which cured his illness and he was able to catch up with his studies and eventually went to Oxford University.
  • Digging Yourself Deeper: Miyuki tries to deny to her future husband Daisuke that she had an affair. However, her poor choice of words when answering his questions only confirm it even further.
  • Diligent Hero, Slothful Villain: Stories that star a male MC will often have a hero's first lover playing the role of a slothful villain, while the Second Love will be a diligent hero; the first lover will often be a Gold Digger who dumps the hero for being poor, seeming poor, having a poor education, etc in favor of a guy who has better specs rather than sticking by the hero. When she discovers that the hero's more successful than her new boyfriend/husband, she will often attempt to get back with him. Meanwhile, the hero's new lover is more than willing to tough it out with him and work with him to become successful rather than dump him when the going gets tough.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Riku began to drink after Kasuma stole his girlfriend Maiko and kicked him out of their restaurant business. Fortunately Yuri was able to pull him out of it.
  • Dustbin School: Riku Sasaki unknowingly enrolls into a low-ranking high school full of delinquents.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: The earliest Japanese episodes didn't really focus on romance or slice-of-life stories and mostly focused on what-if or informational videos in manga form.
  • Evil-Detecting Baby: In We almost got into a two and half men situation until..., when Yukari closed in to hold baby Mana as she tried to justify her situation to her ex-husband and her stepson Tsubasa, Mana starts wailing at her.
  • The Ex's New Jerkass: In this story, the T University student Mayumi dumped Kouki for turned out to be a cheater and a debt-ridden jerk, and thus begs a now-rich Kouki for money.
  • Fair-Weather Ex: A common plot is for the Male MC's gold digging ex-girlfriend to dump him for a guy with more money, only to try and get back together with him when he becomes rich. Typically, the MC and/or his new girlfriend/fiancee/wife end up telling her off and she ends up suffering some form of humiliation for her gold-digging ways.
  • The Fake Cutie: Adachi plays up her cuteness to get out of any trouble she causes. No one dares to treat her harshly for being the daughter of the head of another department until new employee Kudo gets on board.
  • Formerly Fat:
    • Mei was fat and loved to eat. Her boyfriend broke up with her and she decided to lose the weight. When he tried to get back with her (he didn't recognize her at first) she rejected him saying she did it for herself.
    • Akino Kurokawa was overweight until she decided to lose weight to fit in a wedding dress before her wedding with Kaito Ryozaki. But she became vain in her new looks and dumped him in favor of marrying a rich guy instead. However, she came back with all the weight regained, crying that she got dumped for it. But after a young woman called her out for trying to get back with someone expecting something in return, Kaito gently tells her off.
    • Toshi and his sister Yuna went with the former's childhood friend Riku Kashimura for help with his struggles for being fat. After losing weight with Riku and becoming good-looking however, Toshi became an arrogant bastard. It's when Riku and Yuna start dating when Toshi's classmates when he realizes that he is still hated, now for being an asshole.
    • Kaito used to be a fat kid who ate a lot of sweets. After his parents (who were also fat) banned sweets he was able to lose weight, and thanks to his parents, he never relapsed.
  • Formerly Fit: Mei Samejima was the beauty of the class in her high school years. At the school reunion party however, she came back as a freckled, overweight woman.

  • Graceful Loser: Warugaki looks down on Mizuki and has a crush on Marina. However, when he finds out that Mizuki is going to marry Marina, he accepts his defeat gracefully.
  • Grew a Spine: Downplayed. After Sara's friends realize that her fiance Kaito, who they were bashing prior to the wedding, was the CEO of a modeling agency, they tried to make amends believing that she's not good at saying no. However, Sara sees right through the, as she asks if they were just testing him, why didn't they just apologize when she became upset? Sara rejects their multiple apologies before officially cutting ties with them.
  • The Grovel:
    • Five years after dumping Kouki, Mayumi shows up again and begs Kouki to take her back as the T Uni student she dumped him for turned out to be a cheating, debt-ridden bastard. However, Kouki isn't having any of it and tells her that he already has a fiancée, but she refused to back down. When Mayumi and her parents come to his house, he threatens her with calling the police if she tries to go near him again, causing her to break down crying.
    • After being ignored by both Riku and his CEO dad at the bar, Mika tries to bring it up so Riku would take her back, only for her coworker to reveal he is an Executive Director and takes him to meet with their company's CEO. Mika cries and begs Riku to take her back, which got her fired for her drama.
  • Half-Identical Twins: Sena and Lena are a pair of twin siblings with the same hair and eye color. However, the former is male while the latter is female.
  • Hellish Pupils: Ms. Nasu sports cat-like pupils as a nod to her untrustworthy, bullyish nature.
  • Hikikomori:
    • Yuna became a shut-in after Miren betrayed her and stole her boyfriend. Fortunately, Riku manages to get Yuna out of the lifestyle after talking with her.
    • Anna becomes a shut-in for six months after her fiancée, Yuji, abandons her on their wedding day to be with another woman. Fortunately, her childhood friend, Koki, manages to get her out of the lifestyle after he comforts her, declares his love for her, and asks her to marry him.
  • Hopeless with Tech: Arita and Kanade are so bad with technology that they had to keep asking Ryo for help.
  • Hospital Hottie: In this episode, a jerkass nurse named Ms. Nasu invokes this on her patient Sachio Nitobe, after finding out he is actually a CEO. However, this is deconstructed, as she didn't realize that she was doing it in front of the director of the hospital, who fires her on the spot.
  • Humiliation Conga:
    • After Yuji abandons Anna on their wedding day for another woman, his coworker, who he invited to the wedding, told his company about what Yuji had done. Yuji lost the company's trust and was transferred to a smaller branch. However, he ended up quitting after rumors began spreading at his new workplace. His family cut ties with him and he was forced to use all of his savings to pay the compensation fees for the wedding cancelation, causing him to go into debt. In addition, the woman he chose over Anna was a terrible wife who didn't cook or do any housework and had a terrible spending habit.
    • Two and a half months after Yukari abandoned her daughter, Mana, left her family, and disappeared, her stepson, Tsubasa discovers that she is planning to get married to another guy. After finding her current address, both Tsubasa and his father, along with a lawyer, confront Yukari for what she had done, with Yukari's fiancé shocked that Yukari is already married. When she tries to hold Mana, Mana starts crying, with Tsubasa realizing that it means that she no longer considers Yukari her mother. Afterwards, Tsubasa's father filed for damages and child support and Yukari is forced to forfeit all parental rights to Mana. In addition, Yukari was dumped by the man she was planning to marry, with the man charging her for massive damages. According to Tsubasa's father, she's been working all day and all night.
  • I Have No Son!:
    • Mitsuru's father calls the police on Mitsuru and disowns her after she tried to frame Ryo for stealing the money from the restaurant's cash register, while she was the one who stole the money and spent them for a host club.
    • Hiroki was disowned by his mother and sister Nanami, after he refused to spend any of his lottery winnings on them. Two years later, he was poor due to having spent all of his winnings. He tried to get Nanami and his mother to help him but they refused.
  • In Love with Looks: Ushida used to stalk Izumi, the prettiest girl in school, back in highschool. After Ushida sees that Izumi has a scar, he loses interest and insults Ataru, who likes Izumi even with her scar, for dating her. After Izumi loses her Scar due to plastic surgery, Ushida, despite already having a girlfriend alongside the fact that Izumi is dating Ataru, immediately decides to hit on Izumi, even admitting that he only likes her because he doesn't have a scar. He gets rejected by Izumi, and slapped and dumped by his girlfriend.
  • Ironic Hell: After learning about Rika's previous relationship with Hayato and her gold-digging ways, Mr. Iroki decides to marry her anyway to force her, along with himself, into a modest life, beginning with moving into a dilapidated apartment and taking her to a local beach for their honeymoon instead of going to Guam.
  • Japanese Delinquents: Yukari became a gang member in her high school years. She asked her brother Mizuki to tutor the gang leader Kanade so she can enter college since her mother didn't believe in her and is planning to marry her off. Mizuki agrees on the condition that Yukari quit the gang and start taking her studies seriously. Kanade managed enter college and her mother is forced to let her go.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: Suga loved cats so much that he saved a stray one from a incoming truck at the risk of his own life. He later quit his oppressive job to work at a cat care company.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: The antagonist always gets what's coming to them.
  • Lethal Chef: The manager at Haruto's work didn't prepare the food properly, such as fried chicken which is raw on the inside on account of him trying to show off to Maria, who he had fallen in love with. Maria filed a complaint and the manager was called out for his carelessness and he was fired and replaced with a new one.
  • Lust Makes You Dumb: Ushida tries to pick up Izumi after seeing that she no longer has a scar on her face. This is stupid for three reasons:
    • One, Ushida constantly made fun of her for her scar, saying all kinds of disrespectful and hurtful things about it. Not to mention that he pretty much admitted to her face that he only likes her now that she doesn't have a scar on her face.
    • Two, Ushida says this in front of Ataru, Izumi's boyfriend who liked her even with the scar; not helping matters is that Ushida called Ataru a loser for being willing to date a girl with a scar.
    • Three, he said this in front of Enomoto, his girlfriend, who slaps and dumps him for hitting on another girl.
  • Malicious Misnaming: Seina Fukue purposely calls Riku Takane "Yumemi"Translation to mock him after breaking up with him just because she thinks she would have no future with him because he wanted to save his money to become an investor.
  • Malicious Slander: Erika Nakazawa is a victim of a rumor that claims that she would sleep with anyone if they asked her out. The person spreading the rumor, Miyajima, slandered her, alongside rumors of her stealing other girls' boyfriends, because she rejected him.
  • Missing Mom: At some point after giving birth to Mana, Yukari leaves the house and disappears, only leaving a letter for her husband and her stepson, Tsubasa, telling them that she does not want to raise Mana anymore and to not look for her. Two and a half months later, Tsubasa discovers that she is planning to get married to another man and both he and his father confront her.
  • Mistaken for Cheating:
    • Yuka broke up with her boyfriend Riku when her friend showed her a picture of Riku hanging around with another girl. Years later, when they met at a hospital, it is revealed that the girl is his sick sister who was in and out of hospitals and Riku had to take care of her. Once the misunderstanding was cleared up, their relationship was rekindled.
    • Riku assumes that his girlfriend, Asami, was cheating on him because she's interested in fashion when she wasn't before (especially finding a risque panties in the package), buying furniture when she didn't want to buy new furniture before, and even neglecting him for half a year after moving in. Asami clears up the misunderstanding by saying that she was busy from work and was preparing herself for proposing to him. As for the panties, it was a wedding gift and a good luck charm from her editor.
  • Mr. Seahorse: One episode has Hitoshi get pregnant instead of his wife so she could persue her career.
  • Nephewism: Kazuki and his girlfriend Mayu decide to adopt the latter's nieces after her sister died in an accident and her brother-in-law attempted to take them to an orphanage. The children are cold towards the couple at first, but they eventually warm up to them after Kazuki saved the second niece, Hiyori, from a car accident.
  • Never Lend to a Friend: Rina is revealed to have borrowed money from her friends, claiming that her mom was sick, which she was tricked in to giving to her scammer ex-boyfriend. While dining at a café run by Atsushi, her friends confront her about the money and ask her to pay them back, only for her to ask them to give her more time. After she throws water at one of them in a fit of anger, they tell her to either pay them back by the end of the week or they will call her parents. Two weeks later, Rina's friends reveal to Atsushi that Rina did not pay them on time and she blocked their numbers, so they called her parents, who paid them back on her behalf. They believe that she is in a lot of trouble, since they remember her dad being scary, with Atsushi remembering that he is a cop.
  • Nightmare Face: Some episodes feature characters making scary faces when they get angry.
  • Not Good with Rejection: Haruto rejected Dadako, the CEO's daughter who has a crush on him. She didn't take it well and got her dad to bully Haruto. He couldn't take the abuse and quit with another employee who was Dadako's cousin who also disliked her.
  • Offscreen Karma: Many episodes don't show the downfall of the antagonists and just have the protagonist talk about what happened to them at the end of the episode.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Rika does this at her wedding after she told Hayato that she would not have broken up with him if she had known he was rich, since she never told Mr. Iroki that she had been dating Hayato before she chose him.
    • Usoda does this after being confronted by his supervisor, Iwai, at the Land of the Mouse, having told her that he was taking the day off from work after his mother got into a car accident when he actually took the day off to go on a date with his affair partner.
  • Parental Abandonment: Yukari abandons her own baby daughter, Mana, to marry another man. She eventually faces the consequences in the end, as she is forced to pay damages to her ex-husband and ex-fiancé and child support for her daughter.
  • Please, I Will Do Anything!: A worn-down Mayumi says this verbatim as Kouki tried to get her off his back for dumping him five years ago.
  • Practically Different Generations: Goto, who is an office lady, has a little sister named Yuri, who is in the second grade and is close in age with Koki's niece Nana. Koki actually assumed that Yuri was Goto's daughter, until she corrects his misunderstanding.
  • Pretty Freeloaders:
    • Saya always leaves her friends to pay claiming that she doesn't have any money or that she forgot her wallet. Her friends eventually got sick of it since she doesn't pay them back. When Saya ate at an expensive cafe which she couldn't pay for, she tried to get her friends to pay for her but they refused resulting in the owner calling the cops on her.
    • Yuki intentionally leaves her wallet, leaving her boyfriend Tsukasa to pay for her forcing him to work harder to earn more money. When he overheard her badmouthing him saying he is too cheap, he breaks up with her. Later when she hangs out with her club members she asks them to pay for her but they refuse at first. Rena lends her the money but asks her to pay it back. She doesn't learn her lesson and tried the same trick on another guy but she lost all her friends.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Mitsuru has been Stealing from the Till of her father's yakiniku restaurant so she could continue visiting her favorite host at a club. When he brings the employees together to ask where the money went, she accuses the part-time employees of the theft. After discovering that his own daughter is the culprit, he dresses her down.
    "I knew something was going on. Mitsuru, did you take the money from the cash register to pay for the drinks you ordered at the host club? You blamed the part-time employees when I called everybody in for the meeting. You even tried to make Ryo seem suspicious to save yourself. How did that make you feel? Trust is everything when it comes to running a business. I cannot let this go. As your boss, and as your father, I'm calling the police. You did something very wrong. You need to leave and never come back. I do not consider you my daughter anymore."
  • Removing the Crucial Teammate:
    • Akuji believed that he could use his supposed best friend Koki to help him start his own mobile app business then force him out once everything was running smoothly. As Koki was the one who handled "all the nitty gritty," the apps started to fall apart once he was gone. Akuji begs him to come back, but unsurprisingly Koki refuses, instead deciding to start his own company.
    • Mizuki's manager and girlfriend Chika, who are in a secret relationship with each other, deliberately sabotaged his work in the hopes to get him fired, even going so far to tear up the manual he made and throw away the flash file he saved for the company to be able to function without him. Mizuki resigned before he could be fired, knowing full well the company would struggle without him, as he waited for the boss to hire him back with compensation.
    • Kazuki wanted Mizuki kicked from their mother's home for mooching off of her. However, it turned out that not only was Mizuki paying for their mother's expenses, but it turns out his actual job as a system engineer manager makes at least 20,000 a month. And the kicker, the real reason why Kazuki and his wife wanted Mizuki gone so that they can mooch off of their mother while paying off their debts from their frivolous spending.
    • Downplayed with Koki Abe as he wasn't fired, but his hospitalization isn't treated as a loss by his coworkers who found him useless due to his perceived incompetence. However, a series of disasters occur within the Genereal Affairs department which they cannot solve, believing it to be caused by a rampaging monster. Turns out he was the one who "kept the monster at bay" by fixing or preventing the aforementioned issues from occuring.
  • Revenge Romance: Uwaki stole Mizuki's girlfriend Waruna. When they went to a cabaret club, Uwaki bragged about it but the cabaret girls called him out in front of all his coworkers. When Waruna broke up with Uwaki, she tried to get back with Mizuki but he refused.     • Yujima's family owned a giant chain of hot spring resorts and a chain of Chinese restaurants. However, her family's business went under and she is currently working at her father's ramen shop to pay her family's loans back.
    • Downplayed with Iroki, as while he's still rich, he's deliberately living frugally to give his wife Rika a modest life as punishment.
    • Maria's father's company went bankrupt and he died, forcing Maria and her family to move to a cheap apartment. She had to get a job to provide for the family.
  • Runaway Bride: Gender-flipped in this video, where Yuji doesn't show up to his wedding with Anna. After many attempts by his family and Koki to find and contact him, Koki manages to get in contact with Yuji, who reveals that he can't marry Anna due to him having chosen another woman, who he got pregnant. As a result, the wedding was cancelled.

Later, when Nonomura sees that Riku is dating Judy, who's much more beautiful than Miki, he becomes envious and tries to steal her, assuming that he'll succeed because he's a "better man." Nonomura finds out the hard way that Judy, unlike Miki, isn't shallow or unfaithful when she responds to his cheap pick-up lines with disgust rather than flattery.

When Saejima fell in love with her, Kitegawa tried to keep him away from Momose, but soon warmed up to him after seeing his sincere love for her.
  • Slasher Smile: Ms. Nasu displays a nasty one when she finds out that her patient Sachio Nitobe is a rich CEO.
  • Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace: Just as Daisuke and Miyuki exchange their vows, a woman suddenly breaks in to object to their wedding. At first, the guests think she's a lover of Daisuke's, only to realize that Miyuki is the one looking terrified while Daisuke looks confused. Moreover, the woman discloses that she is the wife of a past lover of Miyuki's. As a result, Daisuke calls off the wedding and her parents disown her.
  • Spoiled Brat: Protagonist Mizuki Watarai muses this about the intern Adachi since she makes mistakes and plays up her cuteness to get out of trouble knowing she got hired because of being the relative of the head of another department from his company.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Usozuki stalks Yuuki even though she told him to stop. He spread rumors that they were dating and got so jealous of Riku being close to Yuuki, even though they are just acquaintances due to the former being her friend's brother that he started sabotaging his job.

  • Stolen Credit Backfire: Kaina claims that she was the one who found the company's managing director's bag instead of Eiji. Unfortunately for her, the managing director is skeptical by her claims and finds out the truth himself. Kaina's co-workers also start to look down on her for trying to take Eiji's credits, which causes her to quit the company.
  • Suppressed Rage: After Mr. Iroki finds out that Rika wanted to marry him for his money, he swears he'll give her a modest life, all with a smile plastered on his face that could do nothing to hide that he was pissed off.
  • Thriving Ex-Crush: In some stories, the protagonist will be dumped by their Gold Digger partner when the partner believes the protagonist isn't wealthy enough or is about to hit some financial struggles. After getting over their rejection, the protagonist moves on to rebuild their life, usually by starting their own company, and gets a more loyal and loving Second Love. The original partner will try to get back with them when they find out about the protagonist's successes, but they will be rejected. A few examples include:
    • She dumped me right after my company went bankrupt: Neina dumps Tsukasa after his company went bankrupt, causing her to date Yatsuo, Tsukasa's former friend who now works at a big company. The couple also look down on Tsukasa for working in a convenience store, causing Tsukasa to get another job at Tokyo at an obscure entertainment company. Years later, Tsukasa returns to his hometown to find out that Neina had married Yatsuo, but he became jobless after the president and executives of his company were arrested for running a scam, she also asks Tsukasa to take her back, only to find out that he already has a fiancée, Erika, who is also a popular idol. Turns out while living Tokyo, Erika was originally Tsukasa's next door neighbor, and only sang in live music clubs. Tsukasa convinced Erika to go pro, bringing success and growth to Tsukasa's employer. Erika and Tsukasa marry, while Neina and Yatsuo are constantly arguing while trying to raise their son.
    • I was going back home on the bullet train when I met my rich ex?: Miki breaks up with Riku when she finds out that he is poor, and she also starts making fun of him for the remainder of their school years. Several years later, she continues to make fun of him and brag about being engaged to a businessman named Makabe. However, Makabe reveals that Riku is far more successful than him. Makabe later breaks off the engagement with Miki and she attempts to get back with Riku, unfortunately for her, he is already engaged to someone else.
    • Ex-wife dumped me for my client company's CEO until I reunited with my childhood friend: Hayato's ex-wife cheated on him with a CEO because he didn't earn enough money for her. When her new husband's company went bankrupt and Hayato became rich after Tomo helped him out, she attempts to get back with him, only for him to reject her as he goes on a double date with Tomo and two women.
    • My ex-girlfriend came running back after she found out how much money I had...: May broke up with Rick after he couldn't get ahead with his accessory business. However, his childhood friend Alice helps him with his business. May comes back to beg him to take her back, only to be put in her place by Alice.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Nao wears boyish clothes on account of growing up with brothers, but she likes to wear girly clothes as well and has a girlish personality.
  • Training from Hell: After being told off for being a jerk despite losing weight, Toshi begs his friend Riku to train him harder than before. Riku agrees and puts him through hell this time.
  • Tsundere:
    • Kashiwabara at first mocks Wada for his poor grades and pushes him to study by giving him hard questions. His grades gradually improved to the point where he qualified for a scholarship to attend college. He ended up going to the same university as Kashiwabara and she berates him for not asking her out and Wada accepts. She softened up a bit after that.
    • Ito is a deconstruction of this trope as she has a crush on Mizuki. But because she's constantly mean to him he doesn't really like her much. Especially since she constantly throws his insecurities in his face. It doesn't help that she seems to be such a horrible person in general that her little sister doesn't want people to know she's related to her.
    • Itsuwari and the restaurant owner's son both serve as another deconstruction of this as they constantly tease Ryo and Yuria respectively for being single nearing their 30s, despite having crushes on them. Surprisingly, not only are none of their feelings returned, but it's because of their actions that Ryo and Yuria started dating and eventually marrying each other.
  • Twin Switch: Mamoru has a crush on Misa; however, he unknowingly confesses his love to Misa's twin sister, Lisa. Personality wise, Misa is a genuine Nice Girl, while Lisa is a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing.
  • The Unfavorite:
    • My brother's wedding turned into a disaster...: In the scathing wedding speech she read for Ms. Mami's wedding, her older sister, Ms. Yuriko, revealed that their parents always spoiled the former while ignoring the latter.
    • My fiancée's father gave a shocking speech at our wedding…: Yuka was ignored by her mother and sister because she inherited her father's genes instead of her mother's. Yuka's mother attempted to set up Naohito with her sister Mika so he'll dump Yuka but he stood by her.
    • My family didn't want me around, so I left home, but then…: Kaito was treated unfavorably by his parents in favor of his younger brother, Kuzuma. They refused to let him take over the family business and refused to let him to go to college, despite Kuzuma going to an expensive cram school, because they didn't want to spend any money on him. As a result, he moved out of the house after graduating high school and got a live-in job at a hot spring resort that was far away from his parents' house. Years later, Kaito's family and Kuzuma's fiancée, Yuriko, arrive at the inn where he works and his family continue to look down on him. Yuriko then gets upset after learning that they lied about Kuzuma being an only child and that they don't see Kaito as family. After Yuriko walks away for a bit, Kaito's family accuse him of ruining Kuzuma's marriage, despite Kaito not having even said anything, and demand that the inn's owners fire him. However, the inn's owners refuse, telling them that Kaito is like a son to them and call his parents out for playing favorites. Yuriko then returns, having heard about Kaito from the owners' daughter, Saori. Angry that they would treat Kaito like a failure, Yuriko leaves, calls off the marriage, and tells Kuzuma and his parents to never show their faces in front of her again. Afterwards, Kuzuma and his parents leave after paying the cancellation fee for the inn. Some time later, Kaito's mother calls the inn to beg Kaito for money, revealing that their business is about to go bankrupt, only for his wife, Saori, to tell them off and reveals that Kaito is cutting all ties with them, telling them to never call or come near him ever again.
    • When I got home, I saw a woman sitting in front of my apartment: Kayo was mistreated by her parents in favor of her sister, Shu. Despite this, the two sisters loved each other, which emboldened their parents to mistreat Kayo even more. Eventually, Kayo moved out, but she still kept in contact with Shu and the parents tried numerous times to break up the two sisters, but Shu ran away from home after high school and, with the help of Shin Matsuzake, reunited with Kayo.
  • Unnecessarily Cruel Rejection: Back in high school, Kaito confessed his feelings to Mei Samejima, who responded by telling everyone in class that Kaito told him he wanted to kiss her, which they made fun of him for.
  • Villainous Breakdown: In My brother's wedding turned into a disaster..., Mami starts wailing about how her sister Yuriko was a liar after the latter left an envelope with hospital bills, affair investigation reports, and shop receipts in the former's name for the groom to see. This was moments after Yuriko exposed her through her wedding speech.
  • The Voiceless: Sakura never spoke for one year due to shock of her parents' death. She eventually opened to Kaito and started to speak to him with time.
  • Voice of the Legion: Mana spoke like this while confronting her husband Tsukao about his multiple affairs.
  • White-Collar Crime: In Helped out a girl at work, but turns out she's actually a…, Tsukasa reveals to the manager that Rumi planted a document entrusted to her into Akane's desk to get her fired. When Akane takes her to a meeting with the CEO, she is revealed to be actually a spy sent by him to investigate Rumi for charges of embezzlement, which leads to the latter getting fired and then filed a lawsuit against.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Hina is wiser than her older airheaded sister and she asked Koki to help her find her sister who got lost in the big supermarket. She played matchmaker for her sister to get together with him.
