The Rest in Pieces roleplay has had an expanding roster of characters since it's inception. The heroes are mainly focused around the team formed by quarian Spectre Sera'Zarda vas Citadel, and has remained an active vigilante force.
The villains are largely associated with the Mandate and/or any of a number of mercenary organizations (though some are independently active).

The Crew
Digit
If there is a deity looking over this unit, then it understands the organic concept of humor.
— Digit
A quirky, malfunctioning geth, and part of the original team lineup. Tragically died at the end of the first arc, only to return in the third as the mighty and antagonistic Altus Sapiens (see below).
- Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Somewhat, and justified: he's perpetually malfunctioning.
- Hidden Depths: A conversation with Garjen revealed that Digit thinks about philosophy and existentialism a lot. Harsher in Hindsight as of RIP 3.
- Only Known by Their Nickname
Garjen Zeros
DO YOU WANT A PIECE OF ME.! COME GET SOME! COME GET SOME!
Another founding team member, an optimistic and crafty salarian ex-spectre.— Garjen
- Gadgeteer Genius: Over the course of the role play, Garjen acquires a Jump Jet Pack suit, Invisibility Cloak equipment, a Blade Below the Shoulder omni-tool, Trick Bomb neural shock grenades, remote Disarm, Disassemble, Destroy device, an X-Ray Vision monocle that doubles as half a pair of Night-Vision Goggles, and an Energy Bow that can fire Abnormal Ammo bolts of electricity. The crossbow and blade have been treated with a Hot Paint Job of blue and orange, while the monocle adds a bit of High-Class Glass. Garjen often proudly claims that all his equipment is completely Ace Custom as well.
Letanya Cetain
I'm not so sure, Sera. This mission is changing me. I've done things I never would have considered before this.
A recent addition to the team. Letanya is an enigmatic, hardened and temperamental turian investigator who shares a personal history with Sera.— Letanya
- Abusive Parents: A father, to be exact. The primary reason for her leaving home at 13 and joining the Hierarchy, lying about her age to do so.
- The Atoner: Her primary motivation for working with the crew is to atone for accidentally shooting Sera in the past.
- Combat Pragmatist: While she prefers using guns, this is her style of fighting in close combat. Just ask the gangster who ended up getting tackled from behind, with his head getting pounded into the concrete floor.
- Does Not Like Guns: More specifically, handguns, as that is the weapon that she accidentally hit Sera with, due to the round ricocheting after her target moved. She recovered from this somewhat during the break-out from Contract Penitentiary, due to being forced to use a handgun after breaking her arm.
- Failure Hero: Sees herself as this, due to her past and various character flaws.
- Physical Scars, Psychological Scars: Her torso is heavily scarred due to being tortured in her past, and is unable to even set foot on the Citadel Wards without having traumatic flashbacks as a result.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Considered after the break-out from Contract Penitentiary, but ultimately averted, after being persuaded to continue by Sera.
- Straight Gay
Martha and Shiv
Right! You want to hear - THE plan?!
Does I have to?
Of course you do, Shivy! After all, you're going to be doing the dirty work!
A cheery Canadian tech genius and her Vorcha bodyguard, the two are nearly inseparable.— Martha and Shiv
- An Arm and a Leg: Martha lost most her left arm during the break-out of Contract Penitentiary.
- Axe-Crazy: Shiv, more so when Martha doesn't reel him in.
- Cloud Cuckoolander: Martha.
- Cloud Cuckoolanders Minder: Shiv, though occasionally this gets reversed.
- Odd Friendship: Martha and Shiv. A human and a vorcha is a strange enough pairing at the best of times.
- Skilled, but Naive: At times.
Sera'Zarda vas Citadel
Immortality is not a gift. You cannot cleanse the galaxy of pain. Everyone has baggage. Val, his lover. Victairn, his brother. We have baggage. For me, I can't speak for the others, but for me, living forever would be a curse, not a blessing. I hardly think you are the one to tell me I'm wrong.
— Sera
- The Alcoholic: Verged on this at the beginning of Ri P 3, but managed to recover with some assistance from Valentin.
- The Cameo: In RIP 4, due to having left the team, but showing up again on Omega.
- Death Seeker: Throughout RIP 3. She got better, partially, after putting down Altus Sapiens, although she quit the team after feeling that she was responsible for too many deaths. Often manifests itself through Take Me Instead moments.
- The Determinator: Not as much spectacle as the rest, but has endured more then any of them.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After Altus Sapiens was dealt with, Sera left the team on Omega, feeling that she'd made too many mistakes and lost too many teammates for her to stay with the crew.
- Trauma Conga Line: Between getting captured at the end of Ri P 1, having her captor attempt to have his way with her, having to space her lover at the end of Ri P 2 thanks to indoctrination, and losing another lover during Ri P 3 as well as having her decision regarding Digit come back to haunt her, Sera had quite the rough story arc.
- Turn in Your Badge: Self-inflicted; She stepped down from being a Spectre between Ri P 2 and 3, due to believing that it was putting those she loved at risk.
Sergeant Victairn
- Boisterous Bruiser: It's underplayed, but it's there.
- Character Development: Over the course of RIP 2, gradually became less of a stickler for rule of law, and more trusting of his new allies.
- Took a Level in Jerkass: Has overshot this in RIP 4, however, became increasingly erratic and irritable.
- Eyepatch of Power: Acquired by the start of RiP3, as a result of a stray shard of bone from Master's exploding skeleton.
- The Lancer: To Valentin in the second story arc and Sera in the third.
Triana
An enigmatic Asari who joined the Crew in RIP 2 after working undercover within the Eclipse.
- Character Death: Burned alive by L'Enfer.
Valai
Once again, I am Valai'Cala vas Telarun. Get off of my fucking ship.
The Crew's ace pilot.—Valai.
- Deadpan Snarker: His usual method of coping with stress. Or just to be a dick, depending on the circumstances.
- Non-Action Guy: Not that he can't handle his own in a fist fight. He just dislikes violent confrontations for the most part, and is quite happy to stay with the ship.
- Heart Is an Awesome Power: Though this doesn't stop him from being pretty badass; and as the only remaining pilot, he's arguably the most important member of the team.
Valentin Volkov
Either way, you're going to need two things - someone with detailed, in-depth knowledge of the inner workings of the Blue Suns, and someone who once put a bullet through the eyes of a hanar from a mile away - don't ask me how that works, by the way. Anyway, both of those things are me. This mission needs me, and for reasons I won't go into, I need this mission.
To date the longest-lasting player character in the RP; a childhood-traumatized, C-Sec trained, ace sniper Drell able to shoot the wings off a fly with his eyes closed... provided he hasn't been drinking.— Valentin
- Alliterative Name
- The Bus Came Back: Reappears at the end of RIP 4 pt3 after a lengthy and unexplained absence: turns out he was looking for Bryson.
- Byronic Hero: Oh yes. Could be the Trope Namer if he weren't too busy brooding.
- Straight Gay: Not that his squadmates noticed without it being pointed out.
- Tranquil Fury: When the possibility of him working for L'Enfer is suggested.
Ianua 'Jinxy' Valkeria
I'm not really the best with plans.
A brief companion of Sera's team, originally inducted into their fold after rescuing Garjen, an old friend, from captivity. She quickly became known among the group for her wild youthful spirit, as well as the indiscriminately lethal armour spikes with which she adornes herself.—Jinxy
Yesana
- Handicapped Badass: Despite being blind, Yesana had implants in order to "see" through body heat and electricity, allowing her to maintain her biotic and sniper skills.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Unlike the rest of the crew, Yesana fled the scene and team when Altus Sapiens attacked the Citadel, and hasn't been seen since.
- Token Evil Teammate: While the rest of the team is mostly good, Yesana was much closer to a sociopath, with no emotions or moral compunctions other than supporting herself, which lead to saying "screw it", as shown above.
Bryson
- Ambiguously Brown: Averted. He is explicitly half-Latino (specifically Chilean, according to Word of God), half-white.
- Cute Mute: Sir Pouts-a-Lot. Communicates via text on his omni-tool. Although, as it turns out, he's actually an Elective Mute.
- Morally Ambiguous Doctorate
- Preppy Name: Dr Bryson Henshaw. Not that it's necessarily real.
Dobe Abob
A wise and sensible, yet judgemental, volus who joined the team in Contract.
- Boring, but Practical: That said, his favorite form of attack is the relatively simple and unspectacular throw. It gets the job done.
- Declarative Finger: Does this on occasion.
- Gosh Darn It to Heck!: By far the least foul-mouthed member of the Crew, and once apologized for his language after saying that the Mandate would hand them their behinds.
Villains
Altus Sapiens
I AM ABOVE YOU. I AM ABOVE ALL LIFE. I AM ALTUS SAPIENS. YOUR STRUGGLE IS FUTILE. YOU CANNOT DEFY A GOD. BUT YOU NEED NOT FEAR YOUR DEMISE. YOU WILL LIVE ON THROUGH ME. YOU WILL ALL BE MY CHILDREN SOON.
—Altus Sapiens
- Arch-Enemy: To Sera.
- Big Bad Ensemble: With L'Enfer in RIP 3.
- Came Back Wrong
- Large Ham: " JOIN WITH MEEEEEEEEE!!! "
- A God Am I
- From Nobody to Nightmare
Celan
It's time to just admit that I'm a fuck-up, and try to fix it. I nearly died already helping you because I fucked up again. I'm tired of being a failure. I think it's time to do something right for once.
—Celan
- Cain and Abel: In self-defense, killed his brother after being disowned for not living up to the family wishes
- Heel–Face Turn: When given the opportunity, betrays the Knights and joins Victairn's crew.
- My Greatest Failure: To him, failing to save Fatima before her murder at the hands of Rahvid.
- Overshadowed by Awesome: Pretty deadly in stealth mode... but feels like this much of the time, due to being neither as good of a shot nor as skilled in a straight-up fight as the rest of the crew.
- Playing with Syringes: Well, test tubes, but when it comes to splicing genes to give sex drives to your unborn children like Celan's father did, the distinction is kind of a moot point.
- Sixth Ranger Traitor: Essentially the role Celan played for the Knights.
- Straight Gay: Despite being a salarian.
- Verbal Tic: Occasionally drops all pronouns when talking, similar to Mordin. Unlike Mordin, he does it as a defense mechanism, to avoid taking responsibility for his actions.
- Walking Spoiler: Pretty much anything related to betraying the Knights and joining Victairn's crew.
Ilani Fargen
You and I, darling, are going to have a great time. *shuts hatch* And now, no one will interrupt us.
—Ilani
- Berserk Button: Do not remind him of his first attempt at his "collection".
- Cain and Abel: His first victim as a serial killer was his sister.
- Combat Sadomasochist: In a very literal sense.
- Disney Villain Death: Courtesy of Victairn.
- I Love the Dead: Dead or alive, he doesn't care. They are beautiful to him either way.
- My Greatest Failure: In his mind, his first attempt at a victim he got caught at "early": Sgt. Naila Fargen.
- Politically Incorrect Villain: Seemingly incapable of referring to females in anything but misogynistic terms, and believed it was his right to have sex with any female he wanted.
- Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: Just one of the several moral issues this character has.
L'Enfer
I find that light only has meaning next to the dark, don't you?
—L'Enfer
- Arch-Enemy: With Valentin. Invoked, in fact, due to L'Enfer's flat refusal to let things go.
- Big Bad Ensemble: With Altus Sapiens in RIP 3.
- Faux Affably Evil: Will be perfectly (and somewhat sarcastically) polite while burning you alive.
Lt. Stralos
- Enemy Mine: Briefly worked with Victairn to kill Rahvid.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Even despite being a total dick, he's still a soldier, and was very against working alongside the psychotic criminals within the Knights.
- Evil Mentor: To Victairn.
- Jerkass: Pretty much.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: Downplayed: despite working in the name of Law and Order, he gets serious moral tunnel vision when pursuing the Crew, and borders on obsessed when it comes to besting Victairn.
Master
REAPER MODE, FULLY OPERATIONAL
—Master
- Achilles' Heel: Almost literally: the crew nearly beats him on Purgatory by targeting the large, visible tendons holding his body together.
- Big Bad: Of RIP 2.
- Man Behind the Man: To Tir'Sha in RIP 1.
- Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: His actions, however horrible, ultimately led to the Crew becoming the united front they were in RIP 3 and late RIP 2.
- The Dreaded
Rahvid'Harpa vas Nowhere
Remember, the Mandate needs them alive... ish.
—Rahvid.
- Big Bad: of RIP 4 Part 2.
- The Dragon: To Jubilation.
- Giggling Villain: Has a tendency to joke and giggle while slicing up his victims.
- Early-Bird Cameo: First shows up, albeit extremely briefly, early in RIP 3, in the Proditio thread.
- Never Found the Body: Victairn may have heard him laughing after he threw his corpse into the canal. Or it may have been his imagination.
- Would Harm a Child: As Fatima fatally discovered.
Omnicron Red
He once told me what he wanted his last words to be. 'Thank God I didn't get Rho Red'.
—Sigma Gold
- Badass and Child Duo: Subverted by Omicron Red and Fatima, since their 'duo' is more akin to a hostage situation.
Yoa "Cryic" Beryn
No one talks after they've experienced sub-zero.
—Cryic
- An Ice Person: His weapon of choice.
- Literally Shattered Lives: His preferred method of killing.
Jubilation
Is something wrong, Sergeant?
—Jubilation, speaking through coerced civilians.
- Big Bad: Of RIP 4 Part 3.
- Evil Sounds Deep: His voice modulation.
- Man Behindthe Man: To Rahvid and the Knights.
- Paranoia Fuel: His seemingly endless network of contacts and subordinates can give the illusion that he controls everything everywhere (Which he certainly claims is the case), but how much of this is just that, an illusion, is unclear.
- The Starscream: May be plotting something behind the Manipulator's back.
Other
Kostya Ustinov
- Death by Origin Story
- The Lost Lenore: To Valentin.
- Posthumous Character.
San
- Ambiguous Disorder: Averted by Word of God, as San is intended to be autistic, hence the difficulties with social cues and requiring secondary equipment to filter out background noise to prevent being drowned out.
- Berserk Button: Does not react well to being called "bosh'tana", a quarian term that roughly translates to "broken/faulty mind".
- The Cobbler's Children Have No Shoes: A former psychiatrist with autism could be seen as this.
- Morally Ambiguous Doctorate: Well, former doctor, as San lost her licence to practice due to being a bit careless with the whole "patient privacy" thing.
