- Anti-Hero: Of the Pragmatic and Unscrupulous varieties.
- Aura Vision: In the form of Discernment of Spirits which provides him the ability to Detect non-Human signatures and doubles for Improbable Aiming Skills.
- Badass Creed: Arthur's personal creed is "'Power... controls every working of the human realm and if you don’t have it, then can’t protect anyone, let alone yourself.' That was what the good Roman poet Virgil said… or wait was it from a video game? Ah, whatever".
- Badass Biker: Sometimes travels by Motorcycle.
- Berserk Button: He may not be the most personable of people, but even he has standards. First, you do not threaten to harm or kill a woman, especially one who is a mother... nor do you try to damage his coat.
- Book Dumb: Subverted. He isn't ignorant, he's just Brilliant, but Lazy
- Bottomless Magazines: Subverted, his Caliburn Pistols can fire only twenty bullet magazine of forty five caliber bullets, though he does frequently reload them.
- Chained by Fashion: Downplayed. Single wallet chain.
- Combat Pragmatist: While he may sometimes toy with weaker enemies and then torture them for his own sadistic amusement, but when either time is limited or he is facing someone who is as or more skilled than him he plays this trope straight.
- Katanas Are Just Better: Invoked but, Arthur's sword Longinus is actually a Spatha.
- Damned By a Fool's Praise: Inverted, making this more a case of vindicated by a fool's hatred. Arthur frequently insults a series called Neo-Revelation Crisis, which he finds to be "a bunch of pretentious, Roussean shit" based on his own opinion of human beings, which isn't entirely unjustified based on the way the world is like.
- Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: Arthur really enjoys doing this... but not everyone else.
- Dork Knight: Despite his gruff exterior, he still has an affection for Anime/Manga, Comic books, and videogames.
- Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: And hence why he goes to lengths to protect Anna.
- Friendless Background: The closest thing he has to a friend at the beginning of the story is his mentor, and even then they do sometimes snipe at each other at times.
- Hand Cannon: Neither of them are any larger than a typical handgun, but with the Blessings imbued in them and its Cold Iron and Silver bullets pack the punch of one.
- Humans Are Bastards: His general opinion of Humanity. ...But does recognize that at least SOME people deserve to be saved.
- Implacable Man: He could care less what you shoot or stab him with. He can simply shrug it off, but if you damage his coat... well then you are most likely screwed.
- Jesus Was Way Cool: Hence Why he objects to Mystic's Goals to impose its will on others.
- Limited Wardrobe: He may change his coat from his Black leather longcoat to a red jacket, but that's usually about it.
- Named Weapons: Fatima and Madonna Victoria
- Nay-Theist: Downplayed. While he does believe that God and Satan Are Both Jerks, but he does have begrudging respect for Him and does have genuine respect Jesus.
- Perpetual Frowner: Except when he is making a snide, witty remark or when he is about to brutally torture his enemies.
- Protective Charm: Vatican Issued specialized St. Michael Medallion.
- Punch! Punch! Punch! Uh Oh...: He will let some devils try to beat, stab and shoot him up only to heal himself and then return the favor by, shall we say, teaching them a history lesson about his favorite historical figure... Vlad the Impaler.
- Quit Your Whining: His usual reaction anything Lionel says, even if it isn't so much complaining as just offering observations.
- Shout-Out:
- For those wandering, Arthur's personal creed is a deliberate Shout Out to the Devil May Cry series.
- Also see One of us above.
- After he break's a rooftop window and lands, he replies "Sorry folks, Danny Elfman's theme for The Cowled Knight 1989 not included."
- Sleeves Are for Wimps: When his coat is off, it reveals that his shirt has no sleeves.
- Soft-Spoken Sadist: Though it is more out of Catharsis Factor than sadism.
- Strong Family Resemblance: His face is a masculinized version of his mother's, and thus for this reason is why Viviane didn't recognize him as being the son of Luther Antorious Pendragon, whom she had in the past been a lover of. Awkward.
- Trademark Favorite Food: Tempura and Beef Ramen.
- Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist: Though he's a Jerk with a heart of Gold and Jerkass Woobie, he has shades of this too.
- Weapon Across the Shoulder: Does this sometimes, most notably in his battle against Caius Pendragon.
- What Could Have Been: The series in general grew out of Parody/pastiche of Yu Yu Hakusho and various other anime based on Western Fantasy tropes and the proto-type that eventually became Arthur was originally an exorcist who had a strong resemblance to Yusuke Urameshi. Also worth mentioning that the author was originally going to have the proto type character wield a katana that had once belonged to Amakusa Shirō.
- What Measure Is a Non-Human?: While he has no inhibitions to killing devils and especially humans who are a threat to the public's safety, especially Anna's, but if he is convinced that a Magic-Practitioner (as evident with his adoption of Gwen Pendragon) or sentient Non-human wishes to peacefully co-exist with humans, he will let them live.

- Badass Bookworm: She can recite many of the works of Mary Wollstonecraft and Mary Shelley by heart.
- Berserk Button: Do not call her or her kind "Fairies", or you will find yourself on the wrong side of her wrath.
- Eagle Land: She finds the United States and Enlightenment principles it was founded on to be among Humans' greatest achievements even despite some initial short comings (e.g. slavery), especially compared to the chaotic place and time Post Roman Britain. This even gets represented in humorous thought sequences where she appears dressed in a manner similar to Wonder Woman and as a gender flipped Captain America.
- Fragile Speedster: Double Subversion. While she can use barriers to protect herself, she can't hold them up indefinitely.
- Friend to All Living Things: She believes in the sanctity of all life, even Devils, and will refrain from killing unless it is necessary to protect herself or her family and friends. Even after that, she tends to pray for forgiveness to her patron Goddess Dôn for such actions of self-defense.
- Gosh Dang It to Heck!: In contrast with Arthur, the closest she comes to using any sort of profanity is her catch phrase of "Oh, Baltics!" when she gets irritated.
- Humans Are Flawed: In contrast whereas Arthur dismisses the possibly that humans can change their ways, Viviane takes a more nuanced view of humanity.
- What Measure Is a Non-Human?: As a non-Human in a Human dominated world, she is frequently confronted with this issue.
- What Could Have Been: Before Viviane was conceived, the Proto-type for Arthur was originally paired with a half-demon character admittedly based on Hellboy. The author decided to scrap the character in large part because it was too blatant a shout out and decided to retool it in development to have Arthur doing more of the fighting rather than acting in a Brains and Brawn duo. Thus Viviane was eventually created as a replacement so to complete the Catholic, but not exactly pious, Arthur with a Virtuous Pagan counterpart. Though she was originally be magic practitioner who worked for S.A.L.E.M., but later discarded that by having her be a Tylwythian and renaming the organization she worked for.

Members In General
- Alchemy Is Magic: Alchemy in this series is the study and application of Quintessence.
- Anti-Magical Faction: One of two, the other being the Puritanical Mystic. There is also the lone wolf Jihadist Asad Al-Namur.
- The Atoner: The organization as a whole, while Mystic in contrast is a major aversion in its unrepentant crusade for xenocide against sapient non-humans.
- Badass Creed: Two of the Knights Inquisitor's are: "In Hoc Signo Vinces" and "Longinus tantum ut Deo et perforabit". The latter translates as "Only Longinus may pierce God".
- Badass Normal: The case for many of the other operatives of the organization who aren't Paladins.
- Beethoven Was an Alien Spy: Saint Thomas the Apostle was an Alchemist in secret, Saint Peter (the first Pope of the Catholic Church) was the protector of secret knowledge, Guy Fawkes was a rouge member of the Knights Inquisitor who happen to get involved with an assassination plot against James IV and I of Scotland and England, and Dante Aligheri and Bartolomé de las Casas were also a secret members.
- Beware the Superman: Replace "superman" with suppressing the existence of sorcery, supernatural creatures, and arcane objects and that would be a good description of one of their main mission.
- Black-and-Gray Morality:
- While the Organization may use some underhanded methods to maintain The Masquerade, but compared with what would happen if Devils were to have their way, it wouldn't be pretty.
- Also worth comparing the Knights Inquisitor to their long time enemy, Mystic, whereas the former is willing to allow and even protect Supernatural beings that do not harm Humans, the latter seeks to destroy ALL Sentient Non-Human beings and establish a global Puritan Theocracy, which they have plotted since the downfall of the English Commonwealth since 1660.
- Church Militant: Not part of the Catholic Church's hierarchy, but under its civilian control.
- Cynicism Catalyst: Many members of the organization have this kind of background.
- Dark Is Not Evil: Though the outfits of the K.I. is Black and other dark colors, the vast majority of its members are genuinely seeking to do good.
- Detect Evil: By Discernment of spirits.
- Excessive Steam Syndrome: Deliberately used by its members to prevent any on lookers from being able to see any supernatural beings.
- Fictional Document: The Secret Gospel of Thomas (not to be confused with the apocryphal Gospel of Thomas which actually does exist).
- He Who Fights Monsters: The case with a few of its former members who go rogue, but the Organization does take some counter measures to prevent this if someone is either about to or is suspected to do this.
- Insistent Terminology: Magic is defined by the organization as an "unauthorized alteration to the natural world beyond means of rational Human means". Acts of Miracles, being the intervention of the Creator and thus authorized, are exempted.
- Mini-Mecha: Has some of these, but they are strictly reserved for world wide emergencies or direct attacks on the HQ.
- Our Souls Are Different: Quintessence; Used by Intercessors employed by the Organization. Quintessence comes in two forms: Holy (When infused with Blessings and Dark (When infused with Magic). Despite the names of these varieties, this does not mean that Light Is Good and Dark Is Evil. Members of the Knights Inquisitor (And Mystic and all other followers of the Abrahamic Covenant) exclusively use the former due to the Contract.
- Shout-Out:
- A Closely associated group with the organization is called Sisters of Saint Rosette.
- Tombstones in a graveyard owned by the Vatican where deceased members of the Knights Inquisitor are interred read "Alexander X. Anderson (????-2008)", "Arthuria P. Saber (1871-1945)", "Shannon A. Masters (1963-2003)", "Michael Delacroix" (1951-2000) and "Doctor John Hurtmann Broome (1939-1990)".

- Older Than They Look: Appears to be in his late forties but is actually in his mid-sixties.
- The Quisling: Subverted. He urgently wants everyone to be in the best shape in order to cut it as short as possible.

- 0% Approval Rating: If it were neither for his cash or enforcer, no one would have anything to do with him.
- Capitalism Is Bad: As a theme in this arc, it is subverted as Socioeconomic problems are the result of Human beings themselves being selfish, bigoted bastards (and even then, it is also a different side of the same coin in that Self-Interest can also bring about individual self-improvement and societal progress.), but there is no Human any worse than Ryons (Even including the Sachsen Society, who at least tried to mask their nihilism as some sort of Romantic Idealism, were more goal oriented.)

- Drugs Are Good: At least he benefits, but not everyone else.
- Evil Counterpart:
- Rather a more evil version of the already antagonistic Galeotto. While the latter may do some morally questionable actions, its solely just business and will not let civilians be knowingly harmed in the course of his schemes. - No Swastikas: Cheldric is very pragmatic in avoiding any use of Nazi imagery.
- Shout-Out: One of their Mecha-Mooks is the "Deckung An Laserstrahlen (und) Explosivstoff Kinetisch Schilde". Take a closer look and you'll notice it spells out something.
- Viewers Are Morons: In-Universe example. Granted it is more along the lines that too many people act based on emotion instead of reason, which the author regards as being the same as idiocy.

- Diabolical Mastermind: He runs an underground operation while running for a higher office as part of the EU. He also has a prison opened to reform the criminals who are running rampant (as part of the Sachsens scheme). The prisoners in turn are secretly used as test subjects for experimentation.
- Expy: Of The Major and Lelouch Lamperouge.

- Mad Artist: In his off time when he is not in public, he goes about making unorthodox works of art with macabre undertones.
- Occidental Otaku: In his spare time, he is also frequently shown enjoying works of Anime and Manga.

- Two aliases he uses are Ignatius "Igniz" Goodman and Godwin S. Law
- He also tends to wear a bowler hat and walk with a cane, and then at one point drops his favorite quote "Come now, you know that's just a matter of words.".

Mystic
- Absolute Xenophobe: Mystic towards anyone who isn’t Human with no exceptions in contrast to the K.I.
- Anti-Magical Faction: One of two, the other being the Vatican-based Knights Inquisitor. There is also the lone wolf Jihadist Asad Al-Namur.
- Battle Cry: (When against members of K.I.) "To Damnation with Ye Papist!"
- Black-and-Gray Morality: Whereas the Vatican based Knights Inquisitor is satisfied with its position and is willing to allow supernatural beings to reside on the condition that they harm no one, Mystic in contrast seeks to exterminate all sentient non-humans and impose its will on the world via a global theocratic Commonwealth.
- Beethoven Was an Alien Spy: Richard Cromwell, Lord Protector of England from 1658-1659, founded the organization and its leadership included other members of the government of the English Commonwealth who later fled to the New England Colonies. Some of the Founding Fathers of the United States were secretly members of Mystic. Another notable member was author H. P. Lovecraft.
- Equal-Opportunity Evil: Subverted. J.V.K. is against allowing non-whites, or "Cainites" as he calls them, positions of leadership and only allowed non-whites to join because of Galeotto's threat of withdrawing financial support to Mystic.
- Expy: Of the Tribulation Force and real-life Puritan Commonwealth.

- Knight Templar and Tautological Templar: They are adamantly opposed to any form of moderation and ecumenism. See Black and Gray Morality above for other details.

- Sliding Scale of Idealism Versus Cynicism: A rare reversal of the usual heroic idealism and villainous cynicism portrayal with the villains, in this case Mystic, are the idealists (of the unyielding extremist variety) and K.I., the main heroes, embodying cynicism (though more as pragmatic, reasoning moderates).

- Alternative Character Interpretation: In-Universe Example regarding his opinions of the figure of King Arthur. He views him as being a "Left-wing pagan tolerating tyrant" who dishonestly took what rightfully belonged to another claimant of the land of Orkney. This is to foreshadow who he really is.
- Anvilicious: In-Universe example. Just as he is about to deliver another polemical speech, Arthur calls him out on his demagoguery.Arthur: "Explaining" why people who don't agree with you are idiots and expecting them to come to your side? Yeah, good thinking Rev. Douchebag.
- Designated Hero: In-Universe example. he solidly believes himself to be a Knight in Shining Armor and constantly presents himself as thus, even when to others it seem inconsistent.
- Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: More like Archaic Reactionary notions of good cannot comprehend modern-day good as defined by rule of law and cultural plurality, which works to his detriment when he "Liberates" people.
- God Is Good: He is the firmest believer of any character to have this opinion, hence why takes The Bible at face value. This also extends to the Old Testament that sanctioned Genocide against non-believers.
- Good Is Old-Fashioned: Granted if one is using an archaic definition of good.
- Hates Everyone Equally: But he also shows Condescending Compassion to plenty of people as well.
- Heteronormative Crusader: He justifies this opinion based on the Book of Genesis in which Adam and Eve were commanded "to be fruitful and multiply". Thus people who fail to form a heterosexual marriage and have children are a sinful bastards who must be punished.
- The Leader: He serves as the Lord Protector of the organization.
- Misaimed Fandom: In-universe example and in several ways. Though there are some occasions that are subversions in that it isn't that he is misunderstanding anything, but deliberately misrepresenting details for the benefit of his own agenda.
- On Christianity: He repeatedly seeks to "rid the faith" of "Incorrect Pagan influence" based on Romans 13:2 and on Deuteronomy, being utterly ignorant of the fact that all of Christianity outside of the Mid-East (e.g. ACOTE) are influenced by Paganism to some degree (even his believed Puritan derived Protestantism) and also grossly distorting Jesus, a man who preached for Peace, into a war mongering Fundamentalist (see also Myth and Religion)
- On Martin Luther: He also praises Luther, and other Protestant Reformers, for fighting against the "Evils of Papism". This utterly disregards the fact Luther was displeased that a new denomination was created rather than achieving his hope of reforming the Catholic of its then-contemporary practices (e.g. simony and indulgences). To add to this, he also sees Protestantism as a vehicle to turn back society to StatusQuoAnte (circa pre-1945).
- American Founding Fathers: He praises the founding of the United States as the second coming of the English Commonwealth, deliberately omitting the fact that unlike the latter Puritan Theocracy, the Constitution of the United States has the Establishment Clause that explicitly prohibits founding a state church.
- On The Tea Party Movement: He, like the those of certain fringe groups, has latched onto it seeing it as a way to impose conformity and stop and reverse all change as possible, of which the first is antithesis of its Libertarian individualistic nature and the latter is wrong in that Conservatism is that "[It] does not stop society from progressing but 'prevents it from falling backward into chaotic darkness and the state of primitive man.'" to quote Russian President Putin.
- Politically Incorrect Villain: He genuinely believes that non-whites are the descendants of Cain, which in turn gives him the belief of the White man's burden.
- Villain Has a Point: While his basis for his ideology is presented as being highly patronizing at the mildest and reprehensible at worst, but his rejection of wealth beyond what is necessary (or then at least hoarding it without ever doing anything beneficial for the greater good), is at least his one redeeming moral trait.
- White Man's Burden: A rare example of someone who holds the belief as it was originally expressed by Rudyard Kipling (see main article for details), granted he does have a ulterior motive but it is more religious than profit-driven in nature.
