Carl

Carl & Friends

    Carl Mitchell
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/carl_mitchell_1.png
Debut: "The First Day"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22

The protagonist of the series. Carl is an Ordinary High-School Student trying to live his life, which consists in going to school, hanging out with his friends and/or his girlfriend Grace, avoiding the school bullies, and spending time with his family. His sarcasm and friendly demeanor are one of the many things that help him keep going.

  • Arch-Enemy: Carl with Gooper. Carl seems to be the only one who actually stands up to Gooper, while Gooper takes his grudge against Carl on a more personal level than just another kid to mess with.
  • Aerith and Bob: The four main boys are Blooper, Boo, Dry Bones (whose real name is "Dimitri"), and Carl. That naming pattern totally breaks the flow to say the least.
  • Anti-Hero: While Carl is generally well-meaning, he isn't above breaking the law or following his own rules. He can also be cynical and has shown quite a few impulses. Even so, Carl is a sweet boy who tries his best to do the right thing.
  • Badass Normal: Carl isn't a skeleton who holds a giant bone like a sword, a ghost who could phase through walls, or a cephalopod who can squirt ink, but frankly, he is the most physhically skilled of the four boys.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Don't mess with Carrie and Sally.
    • Never make unruly comments about his girlfriend, Grace.
    • Constantly push him to the limit and he won't hesitate to send you to a hospital. Liam and Gooper learned this the hard way.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He may be a pacifist at first glance. But piss him off and you'll get a bloody nose!
  • Big Brother Instinct: Mess with his little sisters and you're gonna get it.
  • Break the Cutie: On occasion. For example, in "The School Dance", after Liam and Bob convinced him that Grace already liked Gooper, he lost all confidence and became disraught. Afterward, Carl isolated himself in his room for three days, to the point where he grew a beard.
  • Brutal Honesty: He rarely sugarcoats anything, especially to Calvin and Dry Bones.
  • Bully Magnet: Poor Carl is always on the receiving end of Gooper and his gang's wrath. Some of Carl's other villianous peers also tend to target him.
  • Butt-Monkey: In the earlier episodes, he was constantly bullied by everybody and had to deal with his strict stepfather.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: His crush on Grace during the first two seasons is summed up as this. Funnily enough, Grace felt the same way about him but couldn't bring herself to say it either. They eventually became a couple in the Season 2 finale.
  • Can't Stand Them, Can't Live Without Them: His relationship with Dry Bones. "Civil War" explores this dynamic, where Dry Bones and Carl fought and decided to go separate ways after Dry Bones crashes Carl's car and the latter gotten punished for it. Both Dry Bones and Carl are proven miserable without each others' company and the two later reunite.
  • Challenging the Bully: When push comes to shove, that's it. In a good number of episodes, Carl has put Gooper and his gang back in their place.
  • Character Development: Carl started out as a nervous and rather insecure person, but he became more outgoing and confident as the series went on.
  • The Chew Toy: In earlier episodes.
  • Cowardly Lion: He's often presented as a shy dork, but at the same time, he could put someone back in their place if pushed over the limit. Gooper learned this the hard way a few times.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: He can become rather contentious when it comes to Grace. For instance, in "Summer of '19", he whacked Leon Slater with a barstool when he brags about taking his girlfriend.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Gender-Inverted and Downplayed. Sometimes, he trips on himself and acts a little too goofy, though Grace strongly admires him.
  • Deadpan Snarker: This trope is rampant throughout the FreezeFlame22 series, but Carl is among the snidest.
  • Determinator: No matter the circumstances, he will push through to achieve his goals.
  • Disappeared Dad: Carl never met his biological father, as he abandoned Linda as soon as he found out she was pregnant with Carl.
  • The Dog Bites Back: He has stood up to a few people and put them in stitches a few times. Gooper, Dry Bones and Leon are usually the ones on the receiving end of this.
    • In the classic version of "Carl's Sisters", when Gooper and his gang threatened Carrie and Sally, he made them regret picking on his younger sisters. He basically disintegrated Gooper with a blowtorch in particular.
      • The remastered version has Carl blindly punching Bob in the face after Carrie throws grape soda in his face, not to mention that Ronald's vase lands on him after Carl sends Bob flying into a bookshelf.
    • The remastered version of "The Great Race" shows Carl throwing what appears to be an energy drink or soda at Liam's face after the latter attempts to ram him off of the "Choco Plains" portion of the race.
    • When Sebastian tries to ruin Carl's reputation by using Blatant Lies for personal gain in "Carl's Rival", Carl and Roxanne expose him for what he truly is.
    • He finally stood up to Gooper in "The School Dance" and quite literally kicks him to the curve.
    • Subverted in "Summer of '19" when Carl hits Leon with a barstool after trying to steal her from him and attempting to wow her. However, this causes him and his group of friends to get arrested.
    • Throughout "2020", he gives the Gooper gang a taste of their own medicine. Specifically, he smacked Liam with a beer bottle, knocked Flaig's tooth out, delivered nasty blows to the gang members, and punched Gooper right in the face.
    • Because Dry Bones had gotten Carl in trouble multiple times, made up one too many Blatant Lies and gave him a nosebleed in "Civil War", he declares his friendship to be over with him and proceeds to give him a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown.
    • After Gooper had made some unruly comments about Grace in "Bad Roxanne (2/2)", he punched Gooper in the face so hard that he was facing the audience, but ended up getting punched back by Gooper at a much harsher extent.
  • Dysfunctional Family: His step-father is a loud and stern cop, his mother unintentionally attracts a lot of attention from others, his step-brother is a NEET Deadpan Snarker, and his half-sisters are Those Two Girls, one being a foul-mouthed brat, and the other one an airhead.
  • The Everyman: Carl is mostly a flexible protagonist who's relatively normal.
  • Extreme Doormat: Initially, Carl wasn't very assertive for himself, allowing people to walk all over him. He thankfully grew out of this.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Carl is the Responsible Sibling for all of his siblings. Logan is a high-school dropout who's not too bright, Sally is a naive ditz, and Carrie is a snarky brat.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Downplayed. Carl does pretty well with animals and wildlife. He has a very strong bond with his pet Piranha Plant Marvin and seems to be the only person Cuddles and Kisses behave around.
  • The Generic Guy: He's just a guy with a straightforward personality; An outgoing Koopa.
  • Gullible Lemmings: Telling by "The School Dance", he's not too difficult to trick him. Gooper's henchman managed to talk him into thinking Grace already liked Gooper, causing Carl to give up perusing his chance to express his affection for Grace, allowing Gooper to rid Carl from his attempt to seduce Grace.
  • The Heart: Let's face it, Dry Bones is a jerk, Boo is an idiot, and Blooper is the judgmental No-Respect Guy. Carl is probably the key to making them get along.
  • Heroic BSoD: Has had his moments of complete despair on a few occasions:
    • After getting convinced that Grace was already interested in Gooper, he becomes in utter sorrow and becomes a trainwreck. He grows a Beard of Sorrow in the process.
  • Hero Protagonist: Carl is the titular protagonist of the series. He's often the student who foils an antagonist's, usually Gooper's, schemes.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: He and his three friends share a vigorous bond since they were Childhood Friends.
  • Hot-Blooded: He's often mellow, but he is known to getting a little heated in the efforts of reaching his goals.
  • Humiliation Conga: Oh, poor Carl is especially prone to this:
    • In "Carl's Rival", he has his class seat taken by Sebastian, had to sit next to Gordy of all people, gets beaten up by Gooper and his gang, gets beaten up Gooper again, and is shot right in the leg by a bill-blaster.
    • Near the end of "A Christmas Carl", he suffers through a rather painful variant. He sets his house on fire, slips right into the kitchen utensils in a futile attempt to put out the fire, gets his entire body caught on fire, crushed by his television, ran over by a car, and finally, flattened by a towering can of gasoline. Afterward, he is hospitalized in a body cast and gets told by his imaginary dad that he pretty much ruined Christmas for everybody.
    • "The School Dance" isn't a profound example, but Carl still has it rough. He gets punched in the stomach by Gooper to the point where it actually wounded him, makes the impulsive blunder of not asking out Grace when timing perfectly calls for it, has Grace thought he stood her up, is berated by his friends because of the aforementioned mistake, gets convinced by Liam and Bob that Grace already likes Gooper, locks himself into his room, gradually destroys himself, gets constantly insulted by both Calvin and his imaginary father... come to think of it, he's gotten it really bad in this episode.
  • Iron Butt Monkey: He's pretty resilient and seems to take more punishment than he should.
  • It Runs in the Family: Carl's siblings are just as snarky as he is.
  • Imaginary Friend: Well, not really friend per-say... More like, imaginary father. But in earlier episodes, Carl usually imagines a silhouette of his biological father who gives him advice from to time to time.
  • The Leader: To his friends.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: He contrasts with his step-father to a notable extent. Carl is a calm yet sarcastic teen who suffers from anxiety. Meanwhile, Calvin is an irritable cop who's on the receiving end of snarky remarks and can sometimes act self-entitled.
  • Middle Child Syndrome: He is the older brother to his two little sisters and the younger brother to his step-brother. Calvin's either busy scolding Logan or spoiling Carrie and Sally rotten.
  • Nerd Action Hero: Yes, he's pretty awkward and sometimes clumsy, but he constantly thwarts a Big Bad's schemes. Either Carl uses his intelligence to outsmart his rivals, defend his close ones if bullies mess with them, or gets his hands dirty if you really piss him off.
  • Nice Guy: He's really a kind individual.
  • No-Respect Guy: Not on the same as Calvin or Blooper, but Carl is sometimes on the receiving end of this, mostly at the hands of Gooper.
  • Not So Above It All: Carl is easily susceptible to joining his friends' antics.
  • Not So Weak: Despite how many instances Gooper and his thugs had beaten him up, Carl isn't no slouch. Heck, he once launched Gooper flying across a room with a few melee kicks.
  • Odd Friendship: As Calvin puts it best, he is friends with an airheaded ghost, a nerdy squid, and a bragging skeleton.
  • Odd Name Out: In a meta sense. Boo, Dry Bones, and Blooper are based on a Boo, Dry Bones, and Blooper respectively, and are appropriately named as such, while Carl is a Koopa named Carl.
  • Official Couple: With Grace. Turns out the two quickly took a liking for each other, but couldn't bring themselves to confess. It's only when Grace is kidnapped by Gooper during "The School Dance" duology and she is saved by Carl that she reveals her feelings for him with a kiss on the cheek, officially becoming a couple.
  • Oh, Crap!: Whenever Calvin catches him doing something that he does not approve of. Sometimes, this is followed by a Loud Gulp.
  • Only Sane Man: Frankly, he is one of the few normal students in Toad Town High.
  • Ordinary High-School Student: He starts out as a relatively average teen in a rather wacky school, with even his closest friends being far from normal individuals. As the series progress, Carl finds himself fighting against bullies, thugs, criminals, and outright villains, to the point where he's capable of putting up a fight against the Gooper Gang themselves.
  • I Owe You My Life: In "Bad Roxanne" (2/2)", Carl helps Roxanne in finding enough courage to break free from Gooper and his Blackmail, not only because she is his friend, but because Roxanne helped him expose Sebastian's lies when he tried to steal his friends.
  • Parental Title Characterization: He calls his step-father Calvin "Officer Mitchell" when he has to directly address him, as Calvin considers his kids calling him by his given name as a form of disrespect. However, If Calvin is not around, Carl will refer to him by his given name.
  • Properly Paranoid: Considering how wacky Toad Town is, Carl's paranoia is fairly excusable.
  • Protagonist Title: He's the main character of the series, you guessed it, Carl.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Sometimes, enough is enough for Carl to handle.
    • In "Summer of '19", he meets this guy who bonds with his girlfriend Grace, named Leon. For a while, he tolerated him. However, after Leon smugly tells Carl that he will take Grace for himself, it plucked Carl's last nerve and caused him to hit Leon with a barstool.
    • In "2020", Carl becomes progressively fed up with Gooper and his cronies antagonizing them, so he starts to fight back, which includes whacking beer bottles at their faces.
    • "Civil War" shows that Carl can eventually become fed up with Dry Bones' antics. After taking the fall for him many times, Carl lashes out at Dry Bones and gets into a fight with him.
  • The Rival: Against Sebastian. On the occasion the latter shows up, the two are always at odds.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: He has anxiety and is the main character of Carl.
  • The Social Expert: He didn't have many friends outside Blooper, Boo, and Dry Bones. Over the course of the series, Carl became less shy and became more sociable. Nowadays, he's become the social conscious of the four main boys.
  • Spiky Hair: His hairdo has protruded spikes on its back.
  • The Snark Knight: He's a good kid, but he does have a sarcasm streak.
  • Straight Man: For the whole Toad Town. Especially Dry Bones.
  • Stronger Than They Look: He looks relatively scrawny, but he's also shown impressive feats of physical prowess.
  • Talking to Themself: When the series began, he used to "argue" with his "biological father", who is really just a figment of his imagination. He no longer does this in later episodes, to the point where this aspect was scrapped in the remaster episodes.
  • Team Dad: Carl is a far better parental figure for most of his friends than their actual parents. Even if he is not the most mature or intelligent person out there, he is always there to teach them how to better themselves.
  • Took a Level in Badass: He began as relatively defenseless and a little paranoid, now he's usually the one beating up bullies, Gooper included. He went from merely crushing on Grace to defending her whenever somebody messes with her.
  • Unfazed Everyman: Maybe because of how eccentric Toad Town is. Hell, in a few instances, he will resort to sarcasm while he is getting beat up.
  • Unlucky Everyman: He was both modest and accident-prone.
  • Wacky Parent, Serious Child: The Everyman Carl is the son of Linda, a dedicated mother who sometimes overworks herself, and the step-son of Calvin, an unfit and slightly oafish police chief.

    Blooper Squidd
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blooper_squidd.png
Debut: "The First Day"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
An intelligent teenage boy who's been friends with Carl ever since they were kids. Blooper is very smart, obtaining very high grades at school, but is also seen as a bit of a nerd due to his hobbies involving videogames and not being very socially open, not to mention being too quick to judge people without properly knowing them.

  • Abusive Parents: His mother is shown to be verbally abusive. Given her circumstances, however, it seems to be less that she is nasty by nature and more that she is stressed as a result of having to raise five kids on her own.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Being a nerd of a different species and language, he gets this treatment the most.
  • Badass Bookworm: He can fight. With an extremely high IQ, an ability to produce ink, and six limbs, Blooper is surely efficient.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Not as much as Carl, but Blooper is capable of defending himself and others.
  • Big Brother Instinct: To Roxanne. Even if you're her boyfriend, you won't be spared from Blooper.
  • Book Smart: Blooper is highly intelligent academically.
  • Break the Cutie: Blooper has gotten his spirit broken many times throughout the series.
  • Bring My Brown Pants: When scared, Blooper may ink himself.
  • Brutal Honesty: Blooper prefer not to sugarcoat anything.
  • Butt-Monkey: This poor cephalopod can't catch a break, be it from getting picked on by his brothers or getting caught up in embarrassing situations.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Had a crush on Roxanne for a very long time, but was unable to tell her how he felt about her for numerous reasons. Roxanne reciprocated his feelings during season 5, and they both started a relationship after she finally got rid of Gooper for good.
  • Character Development: He began as slightly cynical, but still shy. Later on, he becomes more open-minded. This is better seen in the way he thinks of Roxanne, as he dismissed her as nothing more than an Alpha Bitch at first, but later came to realize that she is anything but and even developed a crush on her.
  • The Conscience: When the population consists of sadistic bullies, strict authority figures, or imbecilic fools, he practically has the job to fulfill this trope.
  • Cute Bruiser: Don't let his nerdy exterior fool you. Blooper is gonna blind you good with his ink.
  • Cute Bookworm: A shy and intelligent squid.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Occasionally. He is the Only Sane Man after all.
  • Did Not Get the Girl: Unlike Carl and Dry Bones with Grace and Talia respectively, circumstances just wouldn't allow Blooper to be romantically involved with Roxanne for a long time... until the season 5 finale where they officially entered a relationship.
  • Disappeared Dad: His father was eaten alive by a shark when he was young.
  • Deuteragonist: More or less. Blooper has the second most stories devoted to him. Also, he had an arc focused on his feelings for Roxanne that lasted up until the end of the fifth season, where they officially became a couple.
  • Fatal Flaw: His overly critical view on everybody. He tends to be too judgmental for even his own good, and despite his fondness of reading them, he often judges a book by a cover in a figurative sense.
  • The Finicky One: Good-natured he is, Blooper can be a buzzkill sometimes.
  • Furry Reminder: He will ink himself when he is scared.
  • Genius Bruiser: Blooper is a total nerd who gets straight As and has clobbered the Gooper gang with his ink.
  • Good Is Not Nice: While he's relatively moral compared to other students in Toad Town High, he is just as judgmental, snarky, and short-tempered.
  • Honor Before Reason: At the end of "The Valentine's Bowl", he and Roxanne finally get to kiss, but Blooper rejects her because he feels like she should break up with Gooper first. This breaks Roxanne and causes her to start copying Gooper's behaviour and becoming a female version of him. Carl tells him that what he did was stupid because Gooper treats Roxanne terribly and she needed someone to be there for her and not to be judged.
  • Hot-Blooded: He can be rather stubborn and competitive.
  • Insufferable Genius: Downplayed, because while he isn't a condescending jerk to his peers, Blooper does have a few moments of pessimism.
  • Interspecies Romance: He is a squid and his girlfriend Roxanne is a Koopa.
  • Morality Chain: If anybody acts out, Blooper will try to be this.
  • No Mouth: Blooper doesn't have a visible mouth.
  • No-Respect Guy: After Carl has grown to be confident, this position has now shifted onto Blooper.
  • Only Sane Man: Blooper is the most logical out of Carl's group of friends.
  • Pokémon Speak: His form of speech is of the word "bloop", accompanied by subtitles translated to English in brackets for the audience to understand him. Everyone seems perfectly capable of understanding him though.
  • The Rival: He saw Roxanne as this for the first half of season 1, both due to initially perceiving her as a vain and self-centered Alpha Bitch, and because she was the only one in their class that could rival his intelligence and high grades, with Roxanne having the upper hand most of the times. This developed into a Friendly Rivalry as time went on and Blooper got to know Roxanne better, and Blooper would eventually develop a crush on her.
  • The Smart Guy: Is academically smarter than his friends.
  • Species Surname: His last name is Squidd, though there are two Ds in the name.
  • The Straight Man: Of the four boys. Also, to most of Toad Town.
  • Official Couple: He and Roxanne finally started a relationship at the end of season 5.
  • Terrestrial Sea Life: He's a cephalopod who regularly hangs around the land-locked Toad Town.
  • Token Minority: He is the only character out of Carl's group who is not a Koopa at all (Boo was one before he died).
  • The Unintelligible: In the first few episodes, other characters often misinterpreted what Blooper says because of his language. Nowadays, everybody understands him perfectly.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: In "Bad Roxanne", Blooper rejecting Roxanne for not breaking up with Gooper first is what causes Roxanne to start imitating Gooper's behaviour, so she starts getting in trouble with Principal Staffordshire and ignoring her friends, which in turn causes her to get into a fight with Kylie after she refused to stand up for Grace when Gooper and his gang insulted her and made her cry.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Dry Bones and Boo to a lesser extent. He doesn't sugarcoat anything to them, but he nonetheless treats them like good friends.

    Dimitri "Dry" Bones
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dry_bones_4.png
Debut: "The First Day"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
Another childhood friend of Carl's. Dry Bones usually likes to brag about how rich he is and how he is much cooler than his other friends... who all know that that definitely isn't true. Dry Bones comes from a very abusive household, but that doesn't stop him from living his life to the fullest and having a great time with his friends.

  • Abusive Parents: His father makes it very clear that he doesn't like him, openly insulting him at every opportunity. His grandfather isn't much better.
  • Achilles in His Tent: In "Civil War", he gets in a fight with Carl and he briefly joins Gooper's gang. He later makes up with Carl and rejoins his team.
  • Attention Whore: Telling by how frequently he lies, Dry Bones probably desires to be the most popular student in Toad Toad High.
  • Anti-Hero: He's rude and quite narcissistic but come on, he is really a good guy.
  • Ballistic Bone: Dry Bones often uses a giant bone to attack his enemies.
  • Blatant Lies: Lies about being rich all the time.
  • Big, Screwed-Up Family: Even this trope understates how hostile the members of Dry Bones' family really are. His father both verbally and emotionally abuses him on a daily basis, his grandfather is a very severe case of Screw Politeness, I'm a Senior!, and his cousin isn't any better.
  • Brutal Honesty: While not honest about his actual poverty, Dry Bones is often blunt when it comes to other matters.
  • Butt-Monkey: He's literally nothing but skin and bones. Not to mention, having to deal with a verbally Abusive Dad and a whiny and potty-mouthed grandpa who complains about everything. On top of that, he is always at the brim of slapstick.
  • Dem Bones: He is a living Koopa skeleton.
  • Dysfunctional Family: Exaggerated to great lengths. It's clear that all of Dry Bones' family members hate each other, with Dry Bones being the one who gets the abuse the most.
  • Embarrassing First Name: At least Dedede thinks that "Dimitri" is an embarrassing name.
  • Freudian Excuse: He constantly has to face verbal abuse from his relatives, lives in a poverty-stricken state, and endured a disaster that permanently crippled his whole family and killed his mother. It's no wonder why he can be a jerk who constantly lies about being rich.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Downplayed. While not outright despised, Dry Bones isn't exactly the most praised one in Toad Town High.
  • Glowing Eyelights of Undeath: His eye-cavities contain yellow pupils.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: He is very close with Boo, given both of them are poor, which eventually culminates into a disaster that left them as undead creatures.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Yes, hidden deep into his body... And probably burnt away, but he does have a soft side.
  • Hilariously Abusive Childhood: His grandfather has a huge temper and a cursing problem on top of it. When it comes to his father however, it is not as funny.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He might be an asshole, but he's a lovable one for sure.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: During the arc where he and Talia have broken up, upon hearing the news that Talia was dating Zachary, he gets upset about it and calls her new boyfriend an asshole who brags about gliders. However, turns out, he wasn't exactly far off.
  • Kiddie Kid: He does cry like a baby on occasion, has a real-life sized Wiggler plush, and he still believes in The Boogeyman.
  • Missing Mom: His mother died before the events of the show.
  • Official Couple: With Talia, them being the first Official Couple of the series. While Dry Bones and Talia did go through a break-up after he made a mistake, they did get back together after realizing they missed each other.
  • Only Known By His Nickname: No one, not even his father, calls him "Dimitri".
  • Minor Injury Overreaction: He sometimes cries over a not-so-serious injury. For example, he whines like a baby when he was knocked down in "Toad Town Puckers".
  • Never My Fault: He will often try to justify his actions or shift the blame onto someone else rather than apologizing.
  • It Runs in the Family: All of Dry Bones' family members are assholes, though unlike Dry Bones, who is a Jerk with a Heart of Gold, all of Dry Bones' relatives have little to no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Also, Dry Bones' father seems to be rather oblivious to his own father's clear disliking of him and he thinks he is agreeing with him all the time, when in reality, he Hates Everyone Equally.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: To all of his friends.
  • Uncanny Family Resemblance: All of Dry Bones' relatives look the same. This is partially Justified, as they all had their skin burned off, so any distinguishable features they had are probably ashes along with their flesh.

    Boo Who
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boo_who.png
Debut: "The First Day"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
Carl's undead childhood friend, and "the poor kid" of the school. Boo is sort of an oddball, being very absent-minded usually, letting out Non-Sequiturs, and constantly checking out the anatomies of other female characters. In spite of this Boo is a pretty decent guy to be around once you manage to get past his more interesting quirks.

  • All Men Are Perverts: By far the most pronounced case in the series.
  • All Love Is Unrequited: Played for Laughs. He is very fond of Carl's mother Linda, but she is rather oblivious to it.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: You really don't want to make Boo angry. Flaig found out about this the hard way.
  • Casanova Wannabe: Always tries to flirt with many of the female characters.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Boo seems to be very absent-minded most of the time.
  • Creepy Child: His overly flirtatious streak is concerning to say the least. He's also a literal ghost residing in a society populated by lively Koopas.
  • The Ditz: Is very absent-minded.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: In "Snow Day", Boo was late to meet up with Carl, Dry Bones, and Blooper after promising that he'd meet them at eight. He says it is 8:00, though they believe that Boo is being an idiot again. However, it was Daylight saving time that day, where they were supposed to set their clocks backwards. This particular Smart Ball moment was enough to embarrass Carl, Dry Bones, and Boo, to the point where they are begging for the intro to play.
  • Everybody Has Standards:
    • While Boo is normally mellow and obtuse, even he thought Carl chickening out on yet another opportunity with Grace was an extremely stupid move on Carl's part in "The School Dance."
    • Even he puts on Dreary Half-Lidded Eyes when listening to Dry Bones' rant about Talia in "Snow Day".
  • Hormone-Addled Teenager: It goes without saying, but this ghostly teenager is very desirous when it comes to women.
  • Kindhearted Simpleton: He is very dopey, but his heart is certainly bigger than his brain.
  • The Lancer: Serves as one to Dry Bones.
  • Nice Guy: Boo isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but he is a good person with a big heart.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Because he is an utter doofus, he tends to further any conflict he and the gang find themselves in.
  • Punny Name: "Boo Who" is a pun on "boo-hoo", an onomatopoeia used to describe crying or sobbing.
  • Retcon: Boo originally was stated to have freezed to death as a result of his parents being unable to pay the bill, but "The New Girl" states that Boo was hit by an oil truck instead.
  • Smart Ball: Boo has his moments of being sophisticated and more observant.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: He's based on the Boo enemy and is otherwise treated just like the corporeal students.
  • Undead Child: Boo is a young ghost who attends Toad Town High.

    Grace Grey
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/grace_grey.png
Debut: "The First Day"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22 (2017-2018), DarkNightPrincess (2018), Xsytrixx, (2018-2020), Carmen (2020-Present)
Carl's first love and current girlfriend. Grace is a very sweet girl, yet is also very dorky. She tends to overthink things and gets very worried as a result.

  • Action Girlfriend: If you harass her, she will brutally retaliate.
  • Alliterative Name: Grace Grey.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Has shown that she is perfectly capable of defending herself when harassed.
  • Brainy Brunette: Despite how oblivious to her surroundings she may seem, Grace is actually very intelligent.
  • Catchphrase: "Oopsie!".
  • Cannot Spit It Out: It was revealed in "The School Dance (2/2)" that she has had feelings for Carl for quite some time and was eager for him to ask her out, not knowing that Carl felt the same way about her. They eventually became a couple by the end of the episode.
  • Characterization Marches On: Grace wasn't as airheaded or awkward in the earlier episodes, primarily acting as a simple love interest for Carl. This is fixed in the remastered version of those episodes, which have Grace act more like she does in Seasons 4 and 5.
  • Daddy's Girl: It's clear that she means a lot to Felix, and for obvious reasons.
  • Damsel in Distress: She basically plays this role in "The School Dance", where Gooper kidnaps her and forced her to be with him for prom night.
  • The Ditz: While she is not dumb per-se, Grace is very prone to acting like a complete dork.
  • Dude Magnet: Carl, Gooper, Sebastian, and Leon have all shown attraction to her.
  • Endearingly Dorky: Carl thinks her dorkiness makes her cute.
  • Girly Girl: The girliest of them all among the female students.
  • Girly Bruiser: Like Carl, she has occasionally stood up to Gooper and pumpeled him severly.
  • Groin Attack: Did this to Gooper in "The School Dance (2/2)".
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: When Staffordshire confronts her, Carl, Boo, and Dry Bones about spying on her, Grace says that she doesn't know anything about toxic substances on the school's cafeteria menu. Staffordshire then says that she never said anything about toxic substances when interrogating them.
  • Missing Mom: Grace's mother abandoned her family to join a feminist cult back when Grace was child.
  • Official Couple: With Carl. Just as Carl, she had developed feelings for him overtime, but couldn't bring herself to say it. Starting with Carl saving her from Gooper in "The School Dance", the two become a couple.
  • Pink Means Feminine: The color pink is very prominent in her character design, and she is very girly to boot.
  • Signature Headgear: She always wears a pink headband, which represents her child-like nature.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Forms this dynamic alongside Talia, especially in early seasons.
  • Yaoi Fangirl: In the remastered version of the first episode, Grace says that Carl and Boo would make a cute couple when Carl sarcastically says that he and Boo make out all the time.

    Talia Richards
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/talia_richards.png
Talia from season 4 onwards
Seasons 1 to 3 (Remaster)
Debut: "The First Day"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22 (2017-2018), Xsytrixx (2018-2020), Carmen (2020-Present)
Grace's best friend. Talia used to be a shy and insecure girl at first, as a result of people teasing her for her metabolism and her parents being too harsh and strict on her. After meeting Carl and his friends, most importantly Dry Bones, Talia has mostly ditched this side of her and embraced a more rebellious and sarcastic one.
  • Abusive Parents: Talia's parents are strict control freaks who dictate everything in her life and always frown down upon every single decision she makes, which is why Talia has grown resentful of them and is very insecure. Even worse, her father thinks all of this abuse is good parenting.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: She dated Chad for some time, and he was quite a troublemaker.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: She is a bit chubby, but that doesn't stop other characters from finding her attractive.
  • Burger Fool: Her parents forced her to work in the local Goomburger. She mentions having to deal with annoying, whiny customers and her boss, Dedede, was an absolute asshole. She quit her job, in a spectacular way may we add, when she decided she had finally had enough of Dedede and her parents.
  • Character Development: Talia was very shy and introverted during the first few seasons of the series, but she embraced a more sassy and rebellious attitude as time went on, which is symbolized by her changing her hairstyle and ditching her signature red bow.
  • The Dog Bites Back: She finally stands up to her parents after being pushed around and bothered by them one too many times in "The New Girl".
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: Talia used to have wavy brown hair and wear a red bow on top of it during the early seasons, where she was a much more introverted person due to how her parents treated her and how people mocked her. Starting with the season 3 finale, she dyed her hair red with black streaks, modified her hairstyle and stopped wearing the bow, and it was at this point where she became a much more outgoing person, not really caring about what others think of her and defying her parents in many occasions.
  • Fiery Redhead: She has both the hair color and attitude to match as of more recent seasons, although it is not her natural hair color.
  • Freudian Excuse: Talia being raised in a corrupt household whose parents (read a Control Freak of a father and a mother who thinks so little about her) constantly belittle her for everything she does and always bring her spirits down is what caused her to become the way she is today (given the change in hairstyle and appearance) from Season 4 onwards.
  • Hates Their Parent: Talia thinks of her parents as "dumbasses" because of their old-fasioned beliefs, how they pressure her all the time and never agree on any decisions she makes. She doesn't seem to be bothered at all by her parents' divorce and her mother leaving and she barely talks to her father. Talia's father was also shown to have turned into a full-blown emotional abuser following the divorce, so Talia may have a point here.
  • Important Hair Accessory: In her case, ditching her red bow after she changed her hairstyle and dyed it red and black represents her outgrowing her shyness and becoming a more rebellious teen.
  • Inconsistent Dub: Somewhat. Her name has always been pronounced as "TAH-Liah", but during season 3 and the first half of season 4, some female characters, including Talia herself, would pronounce her name as "Tah-LEE-Ah". This is because Xsytrixx, the then-voice actor for those characters, would often mispronounce Talia's name.
  • Missing Mom: Her mother divorced her father sometime between "The New Girl" and "The Thanksgiving Dinner" and moved to the Marine Kingdom.
  • Official Couple: She and Dry Bones were the first official couple of the series, getting together before Carl and Grace did. While they did break up after Dry Bones made a rather fatal mistake, they got back together after realizing the two still had feelings for each other.
  • Signature Headgear: She used to wear a red bow during the first three seasons, which emphasized her shy nature. After her Expository Hairstyle Change, Talia ditched the bow and embraced a more rebellious personality.
  • Shrinking Violet: She was this at the start of the series, being a very shy and quiet girl who only really interacted with Grace, Roxanne and Kylie and always feared what her parents would think of her actions. After becoming friends with Carl and the boys and sharing a rollercoaster of experiences with Dry Bones, Talia shed aside this shy personality and embraced a much more rebellious one, emphasized by her Expository Hairstyle Change at the end of season 3.
  • Take This Job and Shove It: When she decides that she has had enough of her job at Goomburguer and Dedede's treatment of her, combined with an argument she had with her parents beforehand, she angrily quits.
Dedede: You can't just quit! You gotta give at least a three week notice! Now go and fix that toilet or you can say goodbye to your paycheck!
Talia: You can take that paycheck and shove it up your ass! (throws a tray with milkshakes at Dedede's face)
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: She contrasts Grace's girly and dorky personality.

    Roxanne Smith
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/roxanne_smith.png
Debut: "Carl's Little Sisters" (Classic), "The First Day" (Remaster)
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22 (2017-2018), Xsytrixx (2018-2020), Carmen (2020-Present)
Another one of Grace's friends. Roxanne Smith is the most popular girl at school as a result of being both pretty and very intelligent. Roxanne exceeds at almost anything... except choosing a romantic partner wisely.
  • Amicable Exes: With Tucker once they both finally apologize for their respective mistakes. They both state their relationship didn't work out the way they intended and decide to remain as friends.
  • Alpha Bitch: Subverted. Blooper initially saw her as one due to her popularity, her good looks, and being known for partying and drinking a lot, but Roxanne is anything but. She cares a lot about the environment, is an overall very nice person, and knows better than picking on others "below" her.
  • Face–Heel Turn: In the "Bad Roxanne" duology. After Blooper rejected her in "The Valentine's Bowl" for already being with Gooper, Roxanne was ultimately driven to fully embrace Gooper and started copying his behaviour, essentially becoming a female version of him. Part 2 has her realize what she has turned into after Staffordshire threatens her with expulsion, leading her to make the choice to finally dump Gooper and go back to her friends after being encouraged by Carl.
  • Fatal Flaw: Roxanne never makes the right choice when choosing a romantic partner. This has lead to her forgiving Tucker for forgetting about their numerous dates and events on more than one occasion, and, in a more dramatic way, her being manipulated by Gooper twice, with the second time having catastrophic consequences.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Not to the same extent as Grace and Talia, but Roxanne does have this dynamic with Kylie in the sense that Roxanne is known for her kind personality and high grades, whereas Kylie is portrayed as sassy, chic and overly sarcastic.
  • Give Geeks a Chance: After freeing herself from Gooper, she starts dating Blooper.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: She goes to parties on weekends and is known to like alcohol a little too much.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: A blonde and kind-hearted girl.
  • Informed Attribute: She is said to be a heavy drinker whenever she goes to parties, and while she has been seen drinking alcohol in many episodes throughout the series, she has yet to be seen drunk.
  • Interspecies Romance: She is in a relationship with Blooper. She is a Koopa while he is a Squid.
  • Lovable Alpha Bitch: She likes to party and is quite proud of her popularity, but she is still a really Nice Girl.
  • Oblivious to Love: Roxanne is completely oblivious to Blooper's crush on her. Or at least she was, as she confesses that she slowly developed feelings for him overtime but couldn't start a relationship with him due to Gooper blackmailing her into dating him or else he'd ruin her reputation. They eventually became a couple once Roxanne decided to not fear Gooper.
  • Official Couple: After so many years of Ship Tease, Roxanne and Blooper finally entered a relationship at the end of Season 5.
  • Parental Favoritism: Her parents favour her over her brother Liam because she gets much better results than him at school.
  • Remember the New Guy?: In a way, as Roxanne was originally introduced in the second episode of the series as a popular girl who is friends with Grace and Talia, but doesn't seem to be part of their friend group. The Remastered episodes address this issue and have Roxanne be introduced alongside Grace, Talia and Kylie in the very first episode.
  • Signature Headgear: Regardless of how many times she changes her hairstyle, Roxanne is always seen wearing a lavender flower on her hair, which emphazises how she is considered to be one of the most beautiful girls at school. Her Goth makeover in "Bad Roxanne" has her remove the flower she wears on her hair, which helps emphazise that Roxanne really has changed (though thankfully it doesn't last long)
  • The Smart Girl: She gets very high grades and is known to study a lot.
  • Trophy Child: Her parents favor her over Liam because of her high grades and good looks, which they waste no time in bragging about. It's been made clear that they care about what Roxanne achieves, not about Roxanne herself, and don't care about any of what she does or likes as long as she gives them more things to brag about.

    Kylie Allenby
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kylie_allenby.png
Debut: "The First Day" (as a background character, Classic), "The Great Race" (first speaking role, Classic), "The First Day" (Remaster)
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22 (2017-2018), DarkNightPrincess (2018), Xsytrixx (2018), AverageToaster19 (2019-Present)
Another one of Grace's friends. Kylie is sarcastic and doesn't have much patience, but she is an overall good person to those who have earned it. Alongside Roxanne, she is one of the most popular girls at Toad Town High.
  • Ascended Extra: Kylie was just a background character during her first few appearances, but she became more and more prominent from the fourth episode of the series onwards, as FreezeFlame22 liked the idea of Grace having a friend that wasn't fond of Carl and the boys at first, but that would gradually change her mind about them. The remasters of the first three seasons of the series address this issue and have Kylie be introduced in the first episode alongside Talia, Roxanne, and Grace.
  • Berserk Button: Don't intentionally make Grace cry, especially if you're someone who is close to her.
  • Character Development: Kylie wasn't fond of the boys at first, especially Carl and Dry Bones, as she perceived them as losers and thought that Grace and Talia could do much better when it came to romantic partners, but as the series went on she got to know them better and slowly but surely changed her mind about them, now considering them her friends.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She is overly sarcastic.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: In "Bad Roxanne (1/2)", Roxanne implies that Kylie has, or had, a crush on Dry Bones, and accuses her of intentionally causing Talia and Dry Bones' break-up out of jealousy that Dry Bones wouldn't date her. The following episode has Kylie telling Roxanne (after they made up with each other), that what she said is somewhat true, but that she actually had a crush on Talia, not Dry Bones.
  • The Fashionista: Is stated to be the most fashionable of the four girls, which is reflected on her choice of dress in "The School Dance" two-parter and the many different ways she styles her hair in.
  • Hidden Depths: Turns out Kylie is really good at fighting video-games. In addition to that, it's shown Kylie has many insecurities she hides deep down.
  • Incompatible Orientation: She had secret feelings for Talia for a long time, but Talia was already dating Dry Bones and Kylie kept her bisexuality hidden at the time.
  • Lovable Alpha Bitch: While she may seem like a snarky and rude popular girl, Kylie is a very nice person to those who have earned it.
  • Really Gets Around: She is known for having had multiple relationships in the past, but she has never had more than one relationship at a time.
  • Retcon: Early episodes have her last name be "Alexander". It was eventually changed to "Allenby".
  • Signature Headgear: Averted. She is the only one of the four main girls who has never worn any hair accessories at any point during the series. In her place she is constantly changing hairstyles because hers is very long and she is the most fashionable of the group (Though Roxanne also changes her hairstyle regularly).
  • Stepford Smiler: It's implied that Kylie is actually very insecure about herself and that her sassy and chic popular girl attitude is a persona she puts on to hide said insecurities.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Although not to the same extent as Grace and Talia, Kylie does have this dynamic with Roxanne, as whereas Kylie is known for her sassy and sarcastic attitude, Roxanne is better known for her kind behaviour.
  • Tsundere: More often than not she's cracking sarcastic comments about her own friends, especially Carl and the boys, but she really does appreciate them.

The Mitchell Family

    Linda Mitchell
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/linda_mitchell.png
Debut: "The First Day"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22 (2017-2018), DarkNightPrincess (2018), AverageToaster19 (2019-Present)
Carl's mother. An attractive lady who raised her son by herself in Mushroom City after being abandoned by her partner and moved to Toad Town in hopes of giving Carl a proper future. Linda Mitchell is a very caring woman who is willing to listen to what others have to say.

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Has a tendency of embarrassing Carl in front of others.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: As nice as she is, she can be quite scary when angered.
  • Catchphrase: "Silly me!"
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: Early episodes have Linda regularly change hairstyles, like Roxanne, Kylie and Staffordshire do. Later episodes now have her hairstyle stay consistent. The only thing that does change between episodes is the color of her shell and shoes.
  • Formerly Fat: Linda weighted 250 pounds (around 110 kilograms) when she was in high school.
  • Gentle Touch vs. Firm Hand: While not exactly a rivalry, this is both her and Calvin's dynamic when it comes to parenting, with Linda being the Gentle Touch to Calvin's Firm Hand. When giving her kids advise, Linda will appear friendly and encourage them as much as possible. That said, she has her limits and will appropriately tell them off if they are misbehaving.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: A blonde and caring mother.
  • Meaningful Name: "Linda" is a Spanish word for "beautiful", and she's described as being very attractive.
  • Nice Girl: Especially when compared to other parents in the show.
  • Parental Substitute: She acts as one to Grace and the girls in many occasions, always being willing to listen to what they have to say and give them advice. It's also fitting since the girls' mothers are not very prominent in their lives (Grace's mother left her family when Grace was a child, Roxanne and Kylie's mothers are very unpleasant people, and Talia's mother is an unpleasant person who left her family).
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Went from an overweight teenager with glasses and acne, to a fit and attractive woman whose looks catch the attention of both adult men and teenage boys alike.
  • Stacy's Mom: The male students of Toad Town High find her very attractive. Boo in particular seems to be very fond of her.
  • Supreme Chef: Has outstanding cooking abilities.
  • Unlimited Wardrobe: Downplayed. The shell and shoes she wears tend to change depending on the episode, but they are all the same with the exception of the color.

    Calvin Mitchell
Debut: "The First Day"
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/calvin_mitchell.png
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
Carl's step-father. Calvin is very easy to anger, doesn't hesitate to berate his kids for their mistakes, and is shown to have some conservative views of life. Despite this, Calvin is a very honest family man who tries his best and genuinely cares for his family.
  • Alcoholic Parent: He has shown some shades of this, but only rarely.
  • All Crimes Are Equal: He occasionally uses this mindset. No matter how harmless or uncorncering the deed was, Calvin will scold and lecture his children for it.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: He may be too strict towards Carl and Logan, but he certainly loves both of them dearly. In "Logan’s New Place", he openly expressed how much he misses Logan now that the latter had moved out.
  • Berserk Button:
    • He seems to consider being called by his given name by his kids to be a huge form of disrespect, as he demands to Carl that he must call him "Officer Mitchell" when directly addressing him.
    • Saying you like the Dragonites, a Football team, will piss off Calvin immensely.
  • Butt-Monkey: Either he's gonna be sucked into a lot of slapstick or be the butt of many jokes, especially by his own children.
  • Characterization Marches On: Back during the first few seasons, Calvin was an unpleasant prick who berated his children and had little competence regarding his police duties. Now, he has softened a bit and doesn't act harshly to others as often anymore. An early episode also has him listening to rap music in the shower, whereas later episodes establish that he hates rap music. The Remastered episodes of the first three seasons fix all of this inconsistencies so Calvin's characterization is more in-line with seasons 4 and 5.
  • Competition Freak: Every so often, Calvin is shown as competitive. Take, for example, "Toad Town Strikers".
  • Control Freak: Downplayed. Unlike other examples, he isn't a total buzzkill, but he still has his moments.
  • Dirty Cop: On occasion, he can be shown as just as selfish or irresponsible while on the police job, such as in "The First Day". This has been toned down as of the more recent episodes, however.
  • Don't Tell Mama: In instances, he can be too scared to tell Linda about an impulsive deed he has indirectly committed, such as the time he broke the TV in a fit trying to turn it on in "Grounded".
  • Fair Cop: Used to be one when he first started dating Linda.
  • Fat Bastard: Downplayed, but he can be a bit of a dick on his worst days.
  • Formerly Fit: He used to be much more muscular back when he was younger, but put on weight some time after marrying Linda.
  • Former Teen Rebel: He was mostly a Jerk Jock in his youth years.
  • Furry Baldness: Telling by his old photos in "The First Day" and his depictions during the past in "Happy Anniversary" and "Looking Back", Calvin is now bald. However, some other Koopas are technically lacking hair by default.
  • Gentle Touch vs. Firm Hand: While not exactly a rivalry, this is both his and Linda's dynamic when it comes to parenting, with Calvin being the Firm Hand to Linda's Gentle Touch. When giving his kids advice, Calvin won't hesitate to warn them about the consequences of failure. That said, Calvin deeply appreciates it when his kids achieve something, even if he doesn't show it too often.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Downplayed. He is a Reasonable Authority Figure who wants the best for his kids, but that doesn't mean he goes soft on people. He does have a hidden soft spot, however.
  • Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow: He had brown hair when he was younger, but is now completely bald.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Man, he has a temper.
  • Hates Their Parent: Absolutely loathes his father John because he is a drunk bum who embarrases him whenever they are together and because he was an uncaring parent through out his whole childhood.
  • Happily Married: Despite their ups-and-downs, he has a healthy marriage with Linda.
  • Hilariously Abusive Childhood: His father once left him in an oven when he was a baby!
  • Hypocritical Humor: Sometimes. For example, in "Playing Hookie", he and two other police officers stop at the Mitchell's house just to watch TV, but in the same episode he tells Carl to not skip school.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: He often berates his children by calling them disapointments, but considering what's Logan career, he isn't too far off. Also, in his defense, Logan and Carl do tend to be smartasses towards Calvin.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He may seem a tad too strict and uncaring, but he loves all of his kids deep down. He considers Carl a child of his own just as much as Logan, Carrie, and Sally.
  • Misplaced Retribution: While he tries to be understanding, there have been some instances where he faults Carl for something that shouldn't be neccisarlly blamed for. For example, in "Detention" where he scolds Carl for getting detention for a fight that he didn't even instigate.
  • Meaningful Name: "Calvin" is a name that etymologically means "bald", which is fitting as Calvin is sometimes mocked for his baldness.
  • No-Respect Guy: Sure, Calvin may be a tad too strict, but he's at least reasonable. That being said, with the exception of Linda and Mr. Grey, nobody respects him, at least on the surface.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: In Carl's immediate family, he is the only member who is designed after a generic Koopa Troopa, only that he is fatter than the average one.
  • Papa Wolf: Mess with any of his children, and you're gonna get it.
  • Parental Favoritism: Calvin blatantly favors Carrie and Sally over Carl and Logan. That said, it is possible that his sternness towards his sons has something to do with Logan having a very smart mouth towards his him and Carl's relationship with Calvin as step-relatives.
  • Parental Title Characterization: Calvin demands that Carl addreses to him as "Officer Mitchell", and he is shown to get really angry when Carl calls him by his given name. When Calvin is out of earshot however, Carl will refer to him by his given name.
  • Parents as People: He is a proud father who just wants the best for his kids, but due to his way of approaching things, and his different treatment of his twin daughters and son and step-son, the first two come off as spoiled little girls while the latter two rarely ask him for help and usually don't expect much from him.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • In "The Motorhome Trip", he defends Carl from his bully, Gooper.
    • In "Logan’s New Place", he stood up for Logan when Kristen Allenby and Catherine Smith were castigating him and later visits Logan's new apartment to spend father-son time with him.
    • In "Toad Town Grammar", he saves Carl from being killed by Toadette.
  • Police Are Useless: At times, he is not too competent at his job. This trait seems to have been toned down as of the more recent seasons, however.
  • Pushover Parents: In some circumstances, he can easily cave into Carl's demands if the latter blackmails him. Of course, this is usually because Calvin is just as much in the wrong.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He may seem harsh, but he's a reasonable guy.
  • Serious Business: Many things, but in "Toad Town Strikers", it's soccer in particular.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: He has shown contempt for Felix Grey, especially in "Mr. Mitchell vs. Mr. Grey", which is also the episode that introduces the one-sided rivalry between the fathers. He and Staffordshire often bicker with one another whenever they are together too.
  • Strict Parents Make Sneaky Kids: While he is usually the parent who tries to put his foot down whenever Carl, Sally, Carrie, or Logan misbehave, that usually only leads to them trying to sneak out of the punishment.
  • Ugly Guy, Hot Wife: Downplayed, but Linda is attractive and curvy, while Calvin is fat and otherwise looks just like a basic Koopa Troopa.
  • Wimp Fight: His fight with Stelix in "Mr. Mitchell vs. Mr. Grey" was rather underwhelming to say the least.

    Carrie and Sally Mitchell
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/carrie_and_sally_mitchell.png
Carrie (right) and Sally (left)
Debut: "The First Day"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22 (2017-2018), AverageToaster19 (2018-Present).
Carl's half-sisters. These twins have contrasting personalities: Carrie is a bit rude and has a potty mouth, while Sally is a Big Eater who's not very bright. While they don't show it very often, the twins care a lot for their family, especially their half-brothers.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: They are a bit much of a pain in the back for Carl and Logan.
  • Big Eater: Sally mentions being hungry a lot.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Carrie is a bit of a brat given that Calvin has been spoiling her.
  • The Ditz: Sally is known to not be very bright.
  • The Dividual: While each twin has her own unique traits, Carrie and Sally are more or less dependent on each other in the sense of importance and development.
  • Dumb Blonde: Sally is a blonde child who is not very bright. Averted for Carrie however.
  • Friendless Background: Carrie and Sally didn't seem to have friends in early seasons. This seems to have changed as they mention wanting to go to a friend's house for a sleepover in various episodes.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: While Carrie seems like an obnoxious brat, she really cares about her brothers and parents deep down. In more recent episodes she is much more accepting of her half-brothers, if still a bit snarky.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: Carrie dresses in pink and has her hair styled into a big ponytail, while Sally dresses in blue and has her hair styled into two big pigtails.
  • Lady Swears-a-Lot: Downplayed with Carrie since she doesn't swear that often, but she still has quite the mouth of a sailor for someone of her age.
  • Little Miss Snarker: Carrie is a snarky little girl.
  • Theme Twin Naming: Carrie and Sally are names that rhyme.
  • Those Two Girls: Carrie is never seen without Sally and vice-versa.

    Logan Mitchell
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/logan_mitchell.png
Debut: "The First Day"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
Carl's step-brother. He dropped out of Town Toad High to pursue his rap career, but has little success in that regard. He hangs out with Kenny and tends to be a total smartass to his father.
  • Butt-Monkey: Misfortune seems to follow Logan everywhere he goes. In the opening for classic seasons, he was even bitten by the family Chomps.
  • Casanova Wannabe: Throughout the series, Logan has hooked up with or dated many girls. However, he cannot affix himself to a relationship, leading most of his girlfriends to dump or abandon him.
  • Characterization Marches On: Logan was shown to be a bit of a bully towards Carl during the early episodes. While he does make sarcastic remarks about his family, the fact that Logan would mistreat Carl would be unthinkable nowadays given how close they are. The remastered episodes address this issue and make Logan and Carl have a more stable relationship.
  • Deadpan Snarker: While Calvin is often receiving snarky remarks here and there, Logan is by far the person who does it the most.
  • Disappointing Older Sibling: He is an individual who dropped out of his education to pursue his rapping career and isn't exactly the brightest. Carl is definitely not going to be bragging about Logan anytime soon.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: In "Logan's New Girlfriend", he buys an apartment for Mary-Lynn and becomes extremely devoted towards her. Of course, she dumps Logan and gets back with Gooper, breaking his heart.
  • Dreadful Musician: His rap music doesn't have the best quality out there. Even Kenny thinks Logan's writing is terrible.
  • First-Name Basis: He calls his step-mother Linda by her given name, unlike Carl who calls Calvin "Officer Mitchell" when directly talking to him. Given how Linda is less strict towards her kids than Calvin, it's highly likely that she doesn't mind her step-son calling her by her given name as much as Calvin does.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Carl is a sarcastic teenager who is down to earth than, frankly, the entire Toad Town. On the opposite end, Logan is a impetuous young adult who is very reckless and nearly undependable.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: His flatmate and best friend is Kenny, who is in his 40s. Logan on the other hand is in his early 20s.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He may be snarky and sarcastic but he really does care for Carl and the rest of his family, always being there in their need.
  • Missing Mom: It's stated Logan's biological mother ran off with a scuba instructor shortly after giving birth to the egg from which he would hatch.
  • NEET: He dropped out of High School to pursue a rapping career. He hasn't been too successful in that regard however.
  • Really Gets Around: He has been seen hooking up with a lot of girls.
  • The Unfavorite: Downplayed. Logan tends to get under Calvin's skin the most out of his siblings, primarily since he wouldn't pass on any opportunity to sarcastically insult him, but Calvin really does care about him, even though he may not show it that often.

    Marvin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marvin_0.png
Debut: "The First Day"
Carl's pet Piranha Plant, with whom Carl has a very deep bond with. Marvin has an undying loyalty towards Carl, and is known to follow him around everywhere except school, often taking part in whatever antics Carl gets himself involved with.
  • Big Eater: Marvin has a huge appetite, and is often seen having a snack
  • Action Pet: If Marvin senses that Carl is in danger, he will jump into his defense without thinking it twice.
  • Intelligible Unintelligible: Marvin only communicates via growls, but the other characters are perfectly able to understand what he says.
  • Snarky Non-Human Sidekick: More often than not, if Carl is having a private conversation with Marvin, Marvin will turn into this.
Carl: In a second Marvin, I'm just trying to make dinner!
    Marvin: (growls)
Carl: Yeah, and whose fault was that?

    Michael Wattson
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/michael_wattson.png
Debut: "Carl's Grandpa"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
Linda's father. A veteran sergeant of the Koopa Troop and a war hero whom Calvin deeply admires. He has a tendency of criticizing modern society, but is an overall good and responsible person.

    Sheila Mitchell
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sheila_mitchell.png
Debut: "The Thanksgiving Dinner"
Voiced By: Carmen
Calvin's mother. Sheila is a woman who loves her son very much, but the same cannot be said about her former husband John, and for a very good reason as their marriage was an absolute disaster.

    John Mitchell
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/john_mitchell.png
Debut: "Carl's Grandpa"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
Calvin's father. John Mitchell is... an interesting person to say the least. He is shown to be bumbling and incapable and embarrasses Calvin whenever they are together, not to mention that his ex-wife talks about him in quite the unflattering manner.
  • The Alcoholic: He drinks a lot. Sheila states that he would often spend her money on alcohol when they were living together.
  • Bumbling Dad: Exaggerated and Deconstructed. John is noted to think positively of his family, and is particularly loved by Carrie and Sally because they find him "cool", but Calvin is embarrassed of being seen with him and Sheila can't really stand looking at his face.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: As lazy and snobby as he is, he does have a decent point on Michael being... well, a Control Freak.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Yes, he was an incompetent father to Calvin, but that seems to be out of stupidity than genuine neglect. Aside from that, he seems to have a good relationship with his granddaughters, Carrie and Sally.
  • Lethally Stupid: Why did he put Calvin in the oven when he was a baby?
  • The Load: He never helped Sheila with anything when they were married, barely looked after Calvin, and only got a job after Sheila divorced him.
  • NEET: Only got a job after his wife divorced him. Linda also invited him to live in their house after his burned down, much to Calvin's dismay.

Classmates

    Tucker Beddingfield
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tucker_beddingfield.png
Debut: "Too Much Water" (Classic), "The First Day" (Remaster)
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22 (2017-2018), Jordie the chill mean cookie (2018-2019), Swoldow EVGRB (2019-2020), InstaButNot (2021-2022), GengarOfTheOpera (2023-Present)
A classmate of Carl Mitchell and ex-boyfriend of Roxanne. While hot-blooded, overly passionate about sports, and having a competitive streak, Tucker isn't a bad person at heart.
  • Amicable Exes: At the end of Season 5, he and Roxanne apologize for their respective mistakes to each other, but do not get back together, with both of them deciding that they are better off as only being friends.
  • Big Eater: As shown in "Toad Town Strikers", he has a fairly large appetite.
  • The Eeyore: He is ultimately in sorrow after Roxanne broke up with him. Kylie helps him put his life back together.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Tucker doesn't seem to have much patience. Once he lost a hockey game and began beating up his teammates with his stick.
  • Lovable Jock: Tucker is, for the most part, a decent guy.
  • Nice Guy: Despite his temper and competitive streak, Tucker is a laid-back dude.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: More Hot-Blooded and passionate than Roberto
  • Token Minority: He is one of the few black Koopas in Toad Town High.

    Roberto Rodriguez
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/roberto_rodriguez.png
Debut: "The Great Race", (Classic), "The First Day" (Remaster)
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22 (2018), Swoldow EVGRB (2018-Present)
A pudgy classmate of Carl and his friends. He's somewhat gluttonous and tends to rarely take things seriously.
  • Alliterative Name: Roberto Rodriguez.
  • Big Eater: If his body shape didn't tell you so already. He even answered on a poll that his favourite subject was "lunchtime".
  • Big Fun: While a bit overweight, Roberto's carefree attitude and amusing personality has earned him a lot of friends.
  • Class Clown: Roberto tends to goof off in class most of the time, and during Mr. Morris' classes he often makes fun of his failed marriage, teaching methods and bitter personality in front of the whole class.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: A lot more calmer and relaxed than Tucker.
  • Token Minority: As seen by his name, Roberto is implied to be of Hispanic descent.

    Mark Black and Harry Walker
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mark_and_harry.png
Harry (left) and Mark (right)
Debut: "Carl's Little Sisters" (Classic 2017), "The First Day" (Remaster 2022)
Mark is voiced by: Swoldow EVGRB (2018-Present)
Harry is voiced by: Poppilo Power (2018-Present)
A pair of somewhat deformed Koopas who are rarely seen apart. They are close friends with Tucker and Roberto.
  • Gonk: They're the least attractive students in Toad Town High, at least.
  • Hidden Depths: As revealed in "Carl's Grandpa", Mark's older brother is gay.
  • Those Two Guys: If they are not with Tucker and Roberto, they will be together most of the time.

    Oscar and Janie Davis
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/oscar_davis_0.png
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/janie_davis_8.png
Debut: "The Great Race" (Classic), "The First Day" (Remaster)
Oscar is voiced by: FreezeFlame22
Janie is voiced by: FreezeFlame22 (2018), EpicPlushBroZ (2019), AverageToaster19 (2020-Present)
Two siblings that are experts in gossip and texting messages on their phone in the middle of class.
  • Camp Gay: Oscar is flamboyant, wears a pink shell, has a feminine manner of speech and is clearly into men as he mentions having a boyfriend. The front part of his shell also resembles a tank top, which is usually reserved for female Koopas.
  • Gossipy Hens: If a rumor spreads at the school, Oscar and Janie are the ones who pass it around other students.
  • Hidden Depths: Turns out Oscar is really good at soccer.
  • Like Is, Like, a Comma: They almost always incorporate "like" in their speech.
  • The One Guy: Oscar is the only male member among his group of friends, which consists of Janie, Ruby, Rain and himself.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Fittingly as the siblings are a Valley Girl and a Camp Gay Boy.
  • Phoneaholic Teenager: They are usually seen texting during class. They picked the habit from both of their parents.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: They both resemble their parents in both terms of appearance and personality.
  • Those Two Guys: It's rare to not see the siblings together.
  • Valley Girl: Janie looks like one, talks like one, and is one.

    Rain and Ruby
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rain_and_ruby.png
Rain (left) and Ruby (right)
Debut: "The Impossible Test" (Rain, Classic), "Carl's Little Sisters" (Ruby, Classic), "The First Day" (Both, Remaster)
Rain is voiced by: AverageToaster19
Ruby is voiced by: FreezeFlame22 (2017-2018) Carmen (2020-Present)
A minor pair who shows up from time to time.
  • Hidden Depths: As revealed in "Carl's Grandpa", Ruby has an aunt who is a lesbian.
  • Meaningful Name: Ruby's hair, shoes and shell are red as a... take a guess.
  • Those Two Girls: They are seen together most of the time, though unlike other characters in this series with this dynamic, Rain and Ruby didn't originally start out as this.
  • Token Minority: Along with Tucker, Rain is one of the few black koopas in Toad Town High.

    Gordy Hardball

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gordy_hardball_5.png
Debut: "The First Day"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
A student at Toad Town High. While his appearance may imply the image of a kid who has been through a lot, Gordy is actually a jerk that likes to make fun of everyone around him. He always pays the price for it, and it is absolutely hilarious.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Gordy will try to insult and ridicule anyone, as shown by him insulting Calvin, the chief of police, completely unprovoked. Needless to say, the results of Gordy's actions are predictable.
  • Butt-Monkey: He is always at the receiving end of things. Unlike most examples however, he brings it on himself most of the time.
  • The Chew Toy: We love seeing Gordy getting himself into all sorts of slapstick because of his Jerkass tendecies.
  • Disability as an Excuse for Jerkassery: His parents often try to justify that his behaviour is a result of him having severe issues. Subverted as it is later revealed that he is on a wheelchair not because he is disabled, but because he is too lazy to walk. What other "issues" his parents were talking about is anyone's guess.
  • Evil Cripple: Downplayed and Subverted. Downplayed because he is not evil, he is just a brat who is rude to everyone. Subverted as it was revealed in "The New Girl" that he is on a wheelchair because he is too lazy to walk and not because he is actually crippled.
  • Evil Nerd: Though not exactly malicious (at least not to the extent of Gooper's level), Gordy is an insufferable brat who always picks on his peers completely unprovoked.
  • Fat Bastard: He is a morbidly obese brat who treats everyone around him rather poorly.
  • Four Eyes Zero Sould: He wears glasses and is one of the biggest assholes in the series.
  • Freudian Excuse: He was spoiled rotten by his parents, is often berated or abused by students and staff of Toad Town High alike (even when unprovoked), and while he only uses a wheelchair out of sheer laziness, it's implied that he does have genuine health issues.
  • Hated by All: Absolutely nobody at school likes Gordy, not even the school faculty enjoys his presence due to his insolent behavior.
  • Hate Sink: Of course, being a lazy and aggressive douche, he doesn't earn sympathy from viewers whenever misfortune comes his way.
  • Hypocritical Humor: In "The Talentless Show", Gordy calls Roberto "lardass". Gordy has apparently failed to look at himself in a mirror, since he is even fatter than Roberto.
  • Jerkass: Gordy insults others for little to no reason at every opportunity he gets. He always pays the price for it though.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: More often than not, the injuries Gordy receives are the result of his poor treatment of others. He doesn't seem to learn anything from them, though.
  • Nerdy Bully: Though not exactly good looking himself, he usually taunts other students.
  • Obfuscating Disability: Gordy may appear to require a wheelchair, but he only uses one because he's too lazy to walk.
  • Prematurely Bald: Gordy is completely bald despite only being around 18 years old.
  • Sore Loser: He throws tantrums if he doesn't get his way.
  • Speech Impediment: Has a rather noticable lisp, likely because of either braces or another disability.
  • Spoiled Brat: Gordy's parents have spoiled him badly and it doesn't look like they are going to do anything about it if their reaction to Staffordshire telling them about Gordy's bad behaviour is anything to go by.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: In the first few seasons, Gordy was very prone to vomiting. This trait was phased out as the series went on.

Gooper's Gang

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/goopers_gang_4.png
From left to right: Liam, Flaig, Gooper, and Bob.
A band of ruthless bullies who picks on the weak. They are led by Gooper and often serve as the obstacle for Carl and his friends.

    Gooper Jordans
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gooper_jordans_8.png
Debut: "The First Day"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
The main antagonist of Carl. Gooper is a remorseless bully who enjoys picking on inferior peers. He commands an entire gang of thugs, which he commonly sicks on Carl and his friends. He started a relationship with Roxanne in season 5, and by relationship, we mean that he blackmailed her into staying with him until she decided to stand up to him and dump him for good.
  • Asshole Victim: He's a massive bully so whenever he meets his downfall, he deserves every bit of it.
  • Bad Boss: While not regularly abusive to them, he isn't above insulting his underlings, especially Flaig.
  • Berserk Button:
  • Big Bad: He's the worst person Carl has to offer.
  • Blackmail: In "Toad Town Puckers", After manipulating Roxanne into kissing him in the previous episode, he told her that either she broke up with Tucker and started dating him, or he would tell everyone about how she kissed him behind Tucker's back and ruin her reputation. At the end of the season, Roxanne decides not to fear Gooper and she herself reveals her secret to the school, using Gooper's blackmail against him to finally get rid of him.
  • The Bully: Has it out for Carl and his friends.
  • Domestic Abuser: Gooper was a terrible boyfriend to Roxanne and continues to be one to Mary-Lynn. He treats them like objects, would cheat on them in a moment's notice, constantly threatened Roxanne, usually disregards his girlfriends for his own selfish desire, the list goes on. At least with the other significant others in the series who have major flaws, they weren't downright abusive towards their respective partners.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Although Gooper treats women like objects, he, of all people, doesn't condone murder towards women.
  • Evil Is Petty: Gooper is a bully who loves to torment his victims, and when said victims actually stand up to him he decides that they should learn his lesson and won't leave them alone until they fear him again.
  • Fluffy the Terrible: Gooper’s a rather silly-sounding name for a hulking, brute of a bully who engages in illegal activities and abuses his “girlfriend”.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Implied. There are times when most of his own gang members show animosity towards him:
    • The remaster of "The First Day" has Liam, Flaig and the Gooper Grunts running away after Gooper throws a rock at Steelix that was meant to be for Carl. It is evident the two have some sanity not to harm innocent adults and get involved in Gooper's dirty laundry.
    • In "7.8: Too Much Water", Bob and Liam run off from the scene after Gooper gets sent flying towards the sky.
    • "Detention" has Bob and Liam refusing to go after Carl, Blooper, Boo and Dry Bones for getting them sent to detention after they attempted to fight him. However, Gooper still forces them to do his dirty laundry and calls them out for failing to follow his orders.
    • "Carl's House Party" shows Liam, Mary-Lynn, Bob and Flaig heading home and leaving Gooper at Carl's house to be mauled by Cuddles and Kisses. Their reason? They ran out of insulting things to say and didn't want to escalate the situation any further.
    • "The School Trip" can be this or even Played for Laughs. Liam, Bob and Flaig run away from Gooper after dealing with the sandstorm for a prolonged time.
    • "Logan's New Place" has Liam mentioning the moment when Carl brutally attacks Gooper at "The School Dance" to the point of upsetting him. Yeah, your best gang member really likes you, doesn't he, Gooper?
    • "Revenge of the Simp" shows Liam almost calling out Gooper for being a menace to Roxanne, but Roxanne (under Gooper's orders) had to lie and claim that she was being emotional to avoid her secret being exposed.
    • "Bad Roxanne" is probably very noticeable. Bob couldn't give up his vacation to Ocean Side just to wait for Roxanne to arrive, causing him to leave on his own. After Gooper gives Blooper a ferocious ass-kicking that could have killed him, Liam and Jim restrain him from going any further because unlike him, they know not to go as far as killing somebody, let alone sending them to a hospital. Hell, even Liam punches him right in the face and knocks him out for blackmailing Roxanne and threatening her with their secret for over a year.
  • Freudian Excuse: As typical for a bully, there's a few instances that hint at this. This includes being put up for adoption as a child and living in a hostile household.
  • For the Evulz: As Grace desribes it best.
"Yeah, Gooper's just picking on us just 'cause he gets a rise out of making people miserable."

    Mary-Lynn Hatchins
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mary_lynn_hatchins.png
Debut: "The First Day"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22 (2017-2018), AverageToaster19 (2019-Present).
Gooper's side chick and the secondary antagonist of Carl. Mary Lynn is an unpleasant young lady who is extremely clingy to her boyfriend Gooper. She usually flirts with other men behind Gooper's back, just as he flirts with other women behind hers.
  • Arch-Enemy: To Grace and the girls. Mary-Lynn always tries to find a way to humiliate at least one of them, but failing every time.
  • Ascended Extra: She was originally just a love interest goon for Gooper and was no different from the other members in his gang. However, as time went on, she gained more of a personality, showing up on her own much more often and even becoming her own Arch-Enemy for Grace and the girls, just like how Gooper is one for Carl and the boys.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": She wears a necklace with the letters "M" and "L".
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She is overly clingy of Gooper, much to his annoyance.
  • The Bully: Picks on Grace, Talia, Roxanne and Kylie quite often. Not that most of them pay any attention to her though.
  • Demoted to Extra: Became this in Season 5 following Gooper blackmailing Roxanne into dating him. After Roxanne stands up to Gooper and dumps him in the season finale however, he goes back to Mary-Lynn, ensuring that she will get screentime in the next season.
  • The Dragon: Mary-Lynn is an arch enemy to the Grace and her group of friends. Not to mention that she often works with Gooper to try and give Carl and his friends a lot of problems.
  • Dreadful Musician: She has a terrible singing voice.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: During the first three Seasons, Mary-Lynn's hair and boots were completely black and she lacked her "ML" necklace. Starting from late Season 3, her hair is partially dyed purple, she wears purple boots, and wears the aforementioned necklace. The Remastered episodes have Mary-Lynn's hair be completely black again, though she still keeps the necklace and the purple boots.
  • Hypocrite: She hates it when Gooper ditches her for someone else... yet she has done exactly the same to Gooper on more than one occasion.
  • Informed Deformity: More often that not, many of the students in Toad Town High will be making comments on Mary-Lynn being ugly or "having the face of a frog", when in reality, her only (physical) negative trait is that she has a rather big forehead. According to Word of God, Mary-Lynn is supposed to come off as an average-looking girl, and that the comments about her being ugly are just "teens being teens" by exaggerating about her looks, since otherwise Gooper, Dry Bones, Boo and many other boys wouldn't ever consider making out with her.
  • No Indoor Voice: Mary-Lynn always seems to shout rather than speak.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Reveals to the students of Toad Town High that Kylie is bisexual in hopes of them ridiculing her for it. It backfires completely as the rest of the students are supportive of Kylie and congratulate her on coming out. She also refers to the feminist cult that Grace's mother left her family for as "a bunch of ugly single women".
  • Satellite Character: Originally was one for Gooper, given that she didn't have much more characterization than being Gooper's girlfriend and a bully. She gradually started getting more and more characterization as the series went on, to the point in which there are many times in which she is seen without Gooper.
  • Sextra Credit: It's implied that she flirts with the male teachers so they can improve her grades.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only female member of Gooper's gang. Granted, it seems that she merely tags along with them just because she is Gooper's girlfriend, as she stops showing up with them after Gooper dumped her for Roxanne in season 5. After Roxanne stands up to him and dumps him for Blooper however, he gets back with Mary-Lynn, putting her in the gang again. The trope is still averted by the addition of her half-sisters Amy-Lynn and Sherri-Lynn into the gang however.
  • Would Hurt a Child: In the remaster of "Carl's Sisters", she threatens to viciously beat up Carrie after she makes an unruly comment about her appearance and calls Gooper an old man.

    Liam Smith
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/liam_5.png
Debut: "The First Day"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22 (2017-2018), Jordie the chill mean cookie (2018-2019) Poppilo Power (2020-Present)
A ruthless, cunning thug of Gooper's gang and Roxanne's older brother. But underneath all that rudeness, Liam has a soft side for his sister.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: There are times when Liam and Roxanne may show that, despite their complicated relationship, they do care about each other deep down. It is best demonstrated in "Bad Roxanne", when he one ups Gooper by punching him in the face for blackmailing and threatening her.
  • Berserk Button: Don't chew out Liam's family members. Otherwise, he will make you regret it. Chad, Carl, and Gooper learned that the hard way when Liam brutally attacked Chad, gave Carl a black eye and knocked Gooper out cold, as they tried to hook up with Roxanne, "lied" about Catherine's antics and blackmailed Roxanne, respectively.
  • Big Brother Bully: Downplayed. Liam is a bully to Roxanne's friends and can sometimes be a jerk to her most of the time, but he is nonetheless shown to have a soft spot for her.
  • Choke Holds: He grabbed his sister by her mouth simply because she refused to be dropped off at home by Gooper. Sometimes, Liam, you care about Roxanne's safety too much.
  • Delinquent Hair: One side of his hair is shaved and the other is dyed green.
  • The Dog Bites Back: When Liam learns the truth about Gooper and Roxanne's "relationship", he loses it and punches Gooper in the face for blackmailing his sister. It's safe to say that Liam could have betrayed Gooper after what he did to her.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: For the first five episodes of the classic series, Liam had brown hair partially dyed blonde. Starting with the second half of Season 1 onwards, he now has brown hair partially dyed green - the remasters rectify this and use his latter design in every episode to maintain consistency.
  • Food Slap: He throws hot coffee on Janie's face in "Boo's Big Date".
  • Freudian Excuse: His troublemaker habits are a result of his parents neglecting him in favour of his sister. Liam's attitude actually stems down from Catherine and Danny always putting him down just because he can't catch up to Roxanne, even though he is actually sane enough to try.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite his brutish behavior, Liam is shown to be knowledgeable in programming and coding, or at least has some basic knowledge of it.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While Liam may be a thug and intimidating towards people he perceives as weak on a regular basis, he is sane enough to show respect towards Roxanne when things are going wrong for her.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Liam may be a jerk, but he does have his moments where he can be right about things.
    • While it was completely wrong of Liam to leave his own sister, Roxanne, in the water, he didn't want to get killed by a giant Gyriados in the same fashion Gooper did.
    • Liam tells Dry Bones that what he did to Talia in "The Truth Comes Out" and that him being clingy towards her is inexcusable because he was the one at fault for hurting Talia.
  • Karma Houdini: Downplayed. Liam is this for leaving Roxanne in the river to die, but he does get scared of a giant Gyriados for dumping rubbish into the river and potentially killing wildlife in the process.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: In "2020", he gets a face full of glass for constantly bothering Carl and his friends and treating Roxanne like rubbish in the past.
  • Knight Templar Big Brother: Towards Roxanne. He may not show it to others in public, but Liam does care about Roxanne deep down, as shown by him punching Gooper in the face when he learns that he had been blackmailing her into dating him.
  • More Insulting than Intended / Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Liam mentioning Carl knocking out Gooper in "The School Dance" duology in "Logan's New Place" is what insulted Gooper and caused Flaig and Bob to lecture him for hurting Gooper's feelings. Doubles as Foreshadowing for the second half of Season 5.
  • Only Sane Man: A somewhat exaggerated case. Not only is he the only child of Catherine and Danny to dislike being showered with rewards or is an overbearing person by any means, but he is the only family member who actually cares about Roxanne rather than treating her like a trophy. Also, he and Flaig are the only two people in Gooper's gang who aren't always mean to people in school or in public because they don't attack anyone unless somebody provokes them.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Liam is usually a bully to Carl and his group of friends, only going as far as to send insult people and attack someone unless they have wronged him. But in "Logan's New Place", he outright grabs his Bill Blaster and even threatens to kill Carl, Grace, Blooper and Logan if he tries to kick him, Bob, and Flaig out of his house.
  • Pet the Dog: For how nasty his personality is, Liam is shown to care about his sister Roxanne deep down. He initially had no problem with Gooper dating Roxanne, but when he learns that it was all against her will and that he had been blackmailing her into staying with him for over a year, he punches him in the face, warning him to never treat his little sister like that ever again.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Liam finally calms down and leaves Logan's house alongside Flaig and Bob because Kenny threatened to kill them with his more, powerful weapon if they decided to cause more trouble at the house because he gave Carl a black eye.
  • The Un-Favourite: Liam's parents favour his sister Roxanne much more than him because she gets better results at school than him, which gives them something to brag about.
  • Wouldn't Hit a Girl: In the Classic version of "The First Day" when Grace appears to save Carl from Gooper and his gang, Liam states that they cannot beat her up because she's female and feminists would go after them, causing them to flee.

    Bob Taylor

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bob_taylor_new.png
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
Debut: "The First Day"
A muscular thug and a powerful underling of Gooper. As his physique clearly implies, Bob is the brawns of the Gooper Gang. Despite all these strengths, however, Bob is a cowardly brute at heart and would chicken out if he and his allies get cornered.
  • Berserk Button: Don't even try to stand up to or make fun of him. He will either give you a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown or kick you while you are down.
  • Book Dumb: He's not too bright.
  • The Dog Bites Back: He, Gooper, and Liam do this by brutally attacking Chad and shipping him off to Kongo Jungle for attempting to hook up with Roxanne.
  • Dumb Muscle: While he's very muscular, he doesn't have much going for him regarding intelligence.
  • Cowardly Lion: Though a muscular Koopa on the outside, Bob is a total coward when it comes to authority or whenever Carl has the upperhand by a long shot.
  • Glass Cannon: Yes, Bob is very strong and looks intimidating, but he is not very durable in a fight, as shown by him being easily taken down by Carl in the remastered version of "Carl's Sisters".
  • Karma Houdini: Downplayed. While Bob gets no punishments or comeuppance for dumping rubbish into the river, he does get scared of a giant Gyriados for doing so.
  • Persona Non Grata: Bob is not allowed to be near Elementary Schools, presumably because he has a tendency to attack and physically abuse children.
  • Retcon: Bob was originally stated to be in his mid-to-late twenties, having been Held Back in School several times. However, this was rectified by the remasters of the first three seasons, which state that Bob is eighteen years old at the start of the series.
  • Satellite Character: Has little development aside from being Gooper's personal thug. While he's occasionally seen on his own, most of his characterization derives from his association with the Gooper Gang.
  • Out of Focus: He doesn't get much screen time compared to other Gooper Goons, mainly acting as Gooper's imposing lackey.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: As revealed in "Summer of '19", he works as a bar tender and while at the job, he's relatively civil. Granted, he still shows begrudence towards Carl and his friends, but he's rather cynical than outright mean.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Bob has a tendency to get violent with children, as shown with him pushing kids into the deep end of a swimming pool while he was on his vacation at Ocean Side. It isn't surprising that he isn't allowed near Elementary Schools.

    Jim Flaig
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jim_flaig.png
Debut: "The First Day"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
A member of the Gooper Gang and presumably the lowest ranking member, being only above the basic Gooper Grunts. Flaig is somewhat clumsy, isn't as openly mean compared to other Gooper Grunts, and is often looked down by his peers because of this. However, he does earn some acceptance from them so every often.
  • Affably Evil: Of Gooper's gang, he's the most polite. While he won't hesitate to assist Gooper and his other goons in pummeling their victims, Flaig otherwise seem to be civil with Carl and his friends.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Flaig is not as harmless as he appears to be. He is the one who got Dry Bones shipped into Sherbet Land after all. Hell, he pratically assualted Bob and Liam during an act of heroisim.
  • Butt-Monkey: He's always the subject of mockery, insults, and berating by his fellow Gooper Gang members.
  • The Dog Bites Back: In "The School Dance", he strikes at Liam and Bob, namely by throwing a glass cup and vomiting all over their faces, respectively. And Flaig did this to defend Carl no less. He also calls the police on the Gutts in "Civil War" and pinned the blame on Dry Bones not only because he kissed Kylie at "Carl's House Party", but he, Gooper, Liam, and Bob kept demeaning him by poking fun at him all day and night.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Gooper and his gang really dislike him and every time he tries to speak, they always tell him to "shut up".
  • Hidden Depths: His parents are Kissing Cousins. Not to mention that Flaig can also beatbox, although everyone in Goooper's gang finds it annoying.
  • Last-Name Basis: Jim Flaig is only really known by his surname and it's only in rare instances where other characters refer to him as "Jim" rather than "Flaig". One could even mistake the forced surname alias as his actual name.
  • Phrase Catcher: Is constantly told "Shut up, Flaig!" by everyone, even by people who aren't apart of Gooper's gang.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: While admittedly, Flaig does willingly aid Gooper in pummeling other students and is loyal to him no matter what, he isn't really a mean person. Outside his duties as a low-ranking Gooper troop, he's a good sport.
  • Only Sane Man: He and Liam are the only two people in Gooper's gang who aren't always mean to people in school or in public because they don't attack anyone unless somebody provokes them, not to mention that Flaig is usually the voice of reason for Gooper.
  • Shout-Out: Jim's orange mohawk is directly inspired by Roger Klotz's from Doug, specifically the Nickelodeon series.

Mary-Lynn's half-sisters and the most recent additions to the gang. Sheri-Lynn and Amy-Lynn are just as unpleasant as Mary-Lynn is, though they lack her signature clinginess and desire for attention.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": Like her sister Mary-Lynn, Amy-Lynn does this to Sherri-Lynn whenever she insults her.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": Much like Mary-Lynn, Amy-Lynn and Sherri-Lynn also wear necklaces with the initials of their first names, these being "AL" and "SL" respectively.
  • Fat Bitch: Amy-Lynn is plus-sized and completely unpleasant to be around.
  • Family Theme Naming: Like their sister, their names are common names for girls that end with an "i" sound and are followed by "-Lynn". The same applies to other relatives of them, such as their aunt Terri-Lynn and a cousin named Tori-Lynn.
  • Informed Deformity: Much like Mary-Lynn, the other teenage characters tend to refer to Amy-Lynn and Sherri-Lynn as ugly and unappealing. Much like in Mary-Lynn's case, their only real (physical) negative trait would be their big foreheads (and in Amy-Lynn's case her weight).
  • Jerkass to One: Although they do not act aggressively to boys most of the time, they are always rude to other girls. Hell, even Amy-Lynn goes as far as to beat them up.
  • Poke the Poodle: While they aren't as annoying and horrible to a far extent as Mary-Lynn, they insult Grace and make her cry.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Much like Mary-Lynn, both of them have shouted biphobic comments at Kylie.
  • Sixth Ranger: Both sisters start hanging out with Gooper's gang starting with late season 5. However, unlike Mary-Lynn, who only tags along with the gang because she is Gooper's girlfriend, Amy-Lynn and Sherri-Lynn seem to be actual members.
  • Those Two Girls: They are often seen with each other if either one isn't seen with Mary-Lynn.

Jerks and Antagonists

    Sebastian Harrington
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sebastian_harrington.png
Debut: "Carl's Rival"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22 (Speaking voice in "Carl's Rival" and northern England accent in all episodes), Swoldow EVGRB (Speaking voice in every other episode)
Carl's arch-rival. He is a snobby kid who puts on a Southern British to sound intimating; he's anything but such, relying on the efforts of the Gooper Gang, only to fail no matter the scheme.
  • Accent Slip-Up: He usually hides his northen England accent, but he will lapse back to it whenever he is nervous, shocked, or simply not being serious.
  • Consummate Liar: His debut episode consisted in him telling lies in order to make himself seem more likeable and thus gain popularity.
  • Dirty Coward: He has no problem in abandoning others if it means getting out of trouble. Whether it works for him or not is another story.
  • Failure Is the Only Option: Sebastian is prone to be met with nothing but humility from his enemies or even outright beating up brutally by Gooper's gang. Justified, since he had told lies for personal gain in "Carl's Rival" and tried to rig the school election.
  • The Rival: To Carl. Whenever Sebastian comes back, he will try to humiliate Carl only to fail every time.

    Chad Brolin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chad_brolin.png
Debut: "Summer of '19 (1/2)"
Final Appearence: "Civil War (2/2)"
Voiced By: Poppilo Power
Talia's ex-boyfriend, whom she met in her trip to Ocean Side some time after breaking up with Dry Bones. Initially, Chad seems everything to Talia, as he gives her the confidence that she's been missing most of her life and she always has fun with him, but is everything as good as it seems?
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: He pretended to care about Talia and was genuinely nice to her, but had no problem in hooking up with other girls (including Mary-Lynn of all people) and insulting her behind her back. He was even willing to go as far as to leaving Talia heartbroken after she'd realise that he abandoned her. Hopefully, this was not the case.
  • Put on a Bus: Gooper and his gang shipped him to Kongo Island at the end of "Civil War (2/2)". Oddly enough, he still hasn't appeared in any Donkey Kong Island episodes.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: While dating him, Talia started to ignore her school duties, skip class, answering her parents back, and even was willing to throw away all of her life for him.

    Leonard "Leon" Slater
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/11037.png
Debut: "Summer of '19 (1/2)"
Final Appearence: "Revenge of the Simp"
Voiced By: Swoldow EVGRB
The main antagonist of the "Summer of '19" duology. Leon attempts to manipulate Grace into hooking up with him and dumping Carl. Luckily, Grace knows better.
  • Back for the Dead: He reappears in the sixth episode of Season 5, and he gets beheaded by a surf board in the end.
  • Entitled to Have You: He feels this way towards Grace, even after she kicked him in the face and knocked off one of his teeth.
  • Jerkass: Tries to steal Grace away from Carl, shows no interest when Grace introduces him to her friends, and insults Boo and Dry Bones.
  • Like Is, Like, a Comma: Uses "like" in his speech quite a lot.
  • Off with His Head!: He dies by having his head decapitated by a surf board.
  • Rich Bastard: Is rich and is also a complete jerk.
  • Surfer Dude: Talks like one and has the attitude to match. Fitting given that he lives in Ocean Side, a city by the shore of the Koopa Kingdom.
  • Too Dumb to Live:
    • Outright tells Carl that he is going to steal Grace away from him. It ends with Carl hitting him with a barstool and earns him a black eye.
    • After Grace politely refuses to come to his spare hotel room (where he would try to hook up with her and convince her to dump Carl) a second time, he tries to make her come with him by force (in front of Kylie, Roxanne, and Talia nonetheless). It ends with Grace kicking him in the face, knocking off one of his teeth, and sending him flying against some barstools.
    • Telling Kylie that he still has feelings for Grace and that he wants to steal her away from Carl wasn't exactly the smartest move.
  • Totally Radical: His speech pattern is this.
  • Verbal Tic: He, like, totally has three, man.

    Emily Brandneu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/emily_brandeu.png
Debut: "The New Girl"
Final Appearence: "The Valentine's Bowl"
Voiced By: AverageToaster19
A student that moved from Koopa Canyon to Toad Town and Kylie's ex-girlfriend. Emily doesn't have much patience and is easily annoyed by everyone and everything.
  • Berserk Button: She doesn't like it when people bring up her dating history.
  • Brutal Honesty: If she has a negative opinion of someone, she won't hesitate until the person in question is out of earshot to badmouth them.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Shoved Kylie against some lockers, made a biphobic comment about her, and gave her a black eye because Kylie confessed to having kissed Tucker.
  • Dramatic Irony: Emily thinks that Roxanne is nothing but a slut for dating someone like Gooper Jordans following her break-up with Tucker. Little does she know...
  • Does Not Like Men: It's implied that the reason why she's a lesbian in the first place is because she hates men, as she was more angry at Kylie kissing Tucker due to her being a bisexual woman dating a lesbian woman than at the cheating itself.
  • Fiery Redhead: She is normally a calm person, but is this when angered, and as many people have found out, it is very easy to do so.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Inverted. Emily absolutely hates hanging out with Grace, Talia and Roxanne, believing Grace to only be pretending to be ditzy and finding her annoying, calling Talia an emo who's depressing to be around, and thinking that Roxanne is an stereotypical Alpha Bitch who Really Gets Around. Played straight later on, as every other student in Toad Town High considers Emily to be an asshole due to her unlikable personality and the only one who was really willing to put up with her was Kylie.
  • Hidden Depths: She attends a lot of after-school activities and clubs.
  • Jerkass: She had the nerve of assualting Kylie over the fact that she confessed to having kissed Tucker behind her back and making it look like it was all her fault when she isn't exactly the nicest person to be around. Not only that, but she is often badmouthing people behind their backs and insulting them for the smallest things.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Emily was distraught at Kylie for kissing a guy behind her back in "The Valentine's Bowl". However, she is not wrong about Roxanne dating Gooper (albeit being blackmailed by him) because of his antics. Emily also had every reason to get angry at Kylie because she cheated on her in for kissing Tucker, although she didn't have to be that violent towards her.
  • Madonna-Whore Complex: She bases her accusations of Roxanne being a "shallow whore" off the fact that Roxanne likes drinking and partying on weekends, and also off her poor choice of romantic partners (Tucker, who is always forgetting about Roxanne, and Gooper, who is a Jerkass).
  • Punny Name: Her last name is pun on "brand new". Fittingly enough, the epsiode she was introduced in was titled "The New Girl".
  • Put on a Bus: In "The Valentine's Bowl", Emily expresses her desire of moving out of Toad Town and transfering schools just so she doesn't have to see Kylie again. At the end of the episode she is seen getting inside a bus and leaving town.
  • Straight Gay: Revealed that she was a lesbian at the end of her debut episode.
  • I Take Offense to That Last One: When Kylie confesses to her that she made out with Tucker behind her back, Emily shoves her against some lockers, insults her, breaks up with her and gives her a black eye. All of this not because Kylie cheated on her, but because Kylie is a bisexual woman who kissed a man while having a girlfriend, and therefore she's a Female Misogynist in Emily's eyes.
  • No-Sell: Gooper tries to intimidate her and force her to go out with him. Not only is Emily unfaced by his cheap attempts of getting with her, but she also kicks his ass to ensure that he doesn't try it again.
  • Woman Scorned: When Kylie confessed to having kissed Tucker behind her back, Emily shoved her against some lockers and gave her a black eye. Though it appears that Emily was more angry at the fact that her bisexual girlfriend had kissed a man than the cheating itself.

    Warren G. McInnes
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mcinnes_8.png
Debut: "Toad Town Strikers"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
A former acquaintance of Calvin. McInnes used to be one of Calvin's closest friends during high school, but they had a falling off after Calvin's fiancée ran off with McInnes, calling the wedding off. McInnes is a smug self-centered individual who likes to dig into the wounds of the past to hurt Calvin.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Even during their teenage years, McInnes was only pretending to be Calvin's friend and never actually liked him. He even encouraged Calvin to hook up with another girl in order to cause a break-up between Calvin and his former girlfriend Stacy.
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: In both of his appearences he had no problem in cheating in order to achieve victory. Both times it only ends up badly for him.
  • Driven by Envy: It's implied that the reason he hates Calvin so much is because he is jealous of him; jealous of his popularity and skills as a sportsman in their teenage years, and jealous of him being a happily married family man in the present.
  • False Friend: He never once saw Calvin as a friend and would deliberately give him bad advice in order to ruin his life.
  • Jerkass: His treatment of Calvin speaks for itself.
  • Kick the Dog: Constantly reminds Calvin about how he stole his fiancée from him.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After lying, cheating, and even going so far as to holding four teenage girls hostage, McInnes is put under arrest by Calvin.
  • Last-Name Basis: Many people refer to him by his last name. The only exception is Sebastian, who calls him by his first name despite only being his hockey coach. Back when they were still friends Calvin called McInnes "Warren", hinting that Calvin switched to a Last-Name Basis when it comes to McInnes after the two ended their friendship.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Well, at least Calvin used to consider McInnes a friend. McInnes himself has never liked Calvin and was only pretending to be his friend back then.

Toad Town High Faculty

    Sydney Staffordshire
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sydney_stafforshire.png
Debut: "The New Principal"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22 (2018), Xsytrixx (2018-2020). Carmen (2020-Present).
Toad Town High's current principal. Sydney Staffordshire is a very strict woman, often demanding that students and teachers alike follow the rules perfectly. Despite this, there seems to be more to Staffordshire than what meets the eye.
  • Accidental Misnaming: She calls McInnes "McLunns" in "Toad Town Strikers".
  • Alliterative Name: Sydney Staffordshire.
  • Control Freak: Her rules are strict at best and borderline illiberal at worst.
  • Deadpan Snarker: The sarcastic woman among the faculty members of Toad Town High.
  • Dean Bitterman: She is overly strict with the rules she has imposed on Toad Town High. In fact, she used to have even more exaggerated rules.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: She is very prone to giving the students detention for the smallest mistakes they make.
  • Inconsistent Dub: Some characters pronounce her last name as "Sta-Ford-Sher" while others pronounce it as "Sta-Ford-Shyer".
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She actually had many good things to say about the students who behave themselves during Parents Evening. Plus, according to Felix, Sydney can be really nice when she's not at her job. It says a lot when she of all people starts a relationship with Felix.
  • Location Theme Naming: She is named after both the the Australian city of Sydney, and after the English county of Staffordshire. According to Word of God, her last name has more to do with Staffordshire bull terriers, a dog breed, because of her personality.
  • Only Sane Woman: Everyone else in the Toad Town High faculty has a... very colorful personality when compared to her.
  • Opposites Attract: Felix is a Nice Guy, Sydney is a Deadpan Snarker. Despite this the two love each other very much.
  • Pet the Dog: As harsh as she can be, she is capable of maintaining positive relationships with others and she loves Felix more than anything. She also seems to be fond of Grace, as she comments on Parents' Evening to Felix that she has a bright future ahead of her.
  • Sitcom Archnemesis: To Calvin. The two of them often bicker with one another whenever they are together.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Following Miss Bishop's departure to the Kaktus Kingdom, she is the only prominent female faculty member of Toad Town High, which is ironic considering that Ms. Bishop embodied this trope prior to Staffordshire's debut.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: She often refers to the Toad Town High faculty members as bumbling and incapable, hence why she has to take care of things she deems them useless for.
  • Teacher/Parent Romance: She is dating Grace's father, Felix.
  • Two Girls to a Team: She and Ms. Bishop were the only prominent female faculty members of Toad Town High. After Ms. Bishop left however, Staffordshire became the only prominent woman among the school's faculty.
  • When She Smiles: Staffordshire is a stern and uptight disciplinarian most of the time, so when she smiles you know she is softening up to others. Most notably "Bad Roxanne (2/2)" has her deliver a smile at Roxanne after she gathers the courage to stand up to Gooper, use his Blackmail against him, and finally break free from him.

    Ricky Steelix
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ricky_steelix_8.png
Debut: "The First Day"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
The previous principal of Toad Town High. Ricky Steelix was a bumbling, yet corrupt, principal who cared more about himself than the education he was giving to the students. He was replaced by his cousin Sydney Staffordshire after being fired because, according to Miss Bishop, some of his relations with the students "didn't go over well to the educational board". As of Season 4, he has gone back to the school... as a janitor.
  • Ambiguously Bi: He is very fond of Linda Mitchell, but he, alongside Talia and her friends, also remarked how attractive Chad Brolin (who is a teenager, mind you) was.
    Steelix: Damn...
  • The Bus Came Back: He returned to the series in the season 3 finale. He states that he had gone to Ocean Side in order to escape all the controversy surrounding him.
  • Characterization Marches On: The classic episodes portray Steelix as a no-nonsense and corrupt principal who cared more about stroking his own ego than the well-being of the students. Over the time, his characterization was changed to that of a bumbling, incompetent principal who neglects his responsibilities. His questionable morals are the only thing that have remained intact.
  • Dean Bitterman: At least in the very first episodes, he was very nasty as a principal, as Carl found out in his first day of class. The remastered versions instead have him be more of a bumbling clown.
  • Ephebophile: Throughout the series, it has been heavily implied that Steelix has a history of sexually harassing teenagers, as hinted by a rumor of him dating a fourteen-year old girl, spying on Grace and her friends and wanting them to undress, and showing attraction towards Chad Brolin. It culminated in him being fired and replaced with Staffordshire at the start of season 3 because, in the words of Ms. Bishop, his relations with the students "didn't go over well to the educational board".
  • Expy: His appearance in seasons 1 and 2 was based on Keemstar.
  • It's All About Me: He would rather spend millions of dollars on a golden statue than invest them into improving the education of the students.
  • Put on a Bus: He was fired and replaced by Staffordshire as the new principal, with the reason being heavily implied to be sexually harassing the students. He returned as a janitor at the end of Season 3 however.
  • The Rival: To Principal Onix, the principal of Toad Town Grammar. This trait seems to have disappeared over the years as Steelix is not the principal anymore and Principal Onix not having made an appearance in a long time.
  • The Slacker: Is currently a janitor, yet most of the times he is only pretending to be working. One time Roxanne even pointed out that his mop was dry. Even back when he was a principal he would rather play videogames at his office instead of actually managing the school.

    Emmet Johnson
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/coach_johnson.png
Debut: "Meet the Parents"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22 (2018, 2020-Present), HAZAHMASTER! (2018-2020)
The P.E. teacher of Toad Town High following the former coach being taken away by the government as a result of being mistaken for an alien. Coach Johnson has a lot of experience from his years in the military... where he used to clean toilets. He is known for being very childish and for having a crush on principal Staffordshire.
  • Bait-and-Switch: His debut episode has him mentioning that he was in the military, however it's revealed in "The School Trip" that he simply cleaned the toilets there.
  • Basement-Dweller: Despite having his own job and being over 30 years old, he still lives with his parents.
  • Characterization Marches On: In his debut episode he was portrayed as a strict and imposing war veteran who was very serious about his job and whom many female students had a crush on. Shortly after that, he became a Manchild that still lives with his parents, would rather play with his phone than do his job, and whom everyone considers pathetic.
  • Entitled to Have You: He feels this way towards Staffordshire, especially after she and Felix started dating. Nevermind that Felix is a nice and hard-working man while Johnson is basically a teenager in an adult's body.
  • Heartbreak and Ice Cream: Ate a whole bucket of ice-cream while crying after learning that Sydney started dating Felix.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: It's heavily-implied to be the case with him at times.
  • Manchild: Is in his 30s, yet acts like a teenager.
  • Totally Radical: "The New Principal" being the worst offender.
  • Unknown Rival: Is this to Felix after the latter got together with Syndey.

    Charles Moore
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mr_moore.png
Debut: "Detention"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22 (2018) Poppilo Power (2019-Present)
Carl's Geography and History teacher. Mr. Moore is known for his stoic and quiet voice tone, which turns the lessons he gives boring and unengaging.
  • The Bore: His lessons bore the students to death.
  • Everyone Has Standards: He is usually nice to all of the students, but even he finds Gordy to be very annoying.
  • Former Teen Rebel: He mentions being this in the past. Given that his perception of a rebel is somewhat different to that of modern-day teenagers however, it is difficult to say if he actually qualified as a rebel or not.
  • Hippie Teacher: Had the appearance of one back in the 90s.
  • Nice Guy: Once you get passed his monotonous speech-pattern and how boring he makes everything sound, Mr. Moore comes off as a very nice teacher, at least when compared to the other faculty members of Toad Town High.

    Steven Morris
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mr_morris.png
Debut: "The First Day"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
Carl's Math and ICT teacher in Toad Town High. Mr. Morris is known for being angry all the time and complaining about everything throughout the lessons he teaches.
  • 10-Minute Retirement: He quit his job at the beginning of "Carl's New Teacher", but went back to teaching some episodes later. This is even lampshaded by Kylie when she shows up at the School Dance with Logan as her date after Mr. Morris asks Logan if he hadn't dropped out.
  • Apathetic Teacher: Openly complains about how much he hates his job and the students.
  • Born Unlucky: His wife cheated on him and won't allow him to see the children they have in common, he is stuck at a job he hates, his dream of becoming a famous musician never became true, neither the other faculty members or the students respect him, and he is always on the receiving end of things. No wonder everything makes him so angry.
  • Butt-Monkey: NOTHING goes right for him.
  • The Chew Toy: He is constantly facing humiliation over and over again, whether that'd be from the students or an unrelated third party, all Played for Laughs.
  • Dreadful Musician: He dreamed of becoming a musician during the 90s, but his dream never became true. We later learn it is because his singing voice is really bad.
  • Failure Is the Only Option: In 1991, he wanted to give up being a teacher to become a musician, yet 30 years later, he is still stuck working at Toad Town High as a teacher. It doesn't even help that his horrible singing of "Mirrors" is enough for Gooper to tell him that his singing dream has flopped.
  • Freudian Excuse: Considering how incompetent the faculty members of Toad Town High are, the utter disrespect his students give him, and how life is constantly screwing him over, his wrathful anger seem to have at least come from bottled stress.
  • Funny Afro: He used to have an afro hairstyle back when he was younger. However, He is now completely bald.
  • Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow: He had a Funny Afro hairstyle when he was younger, but is now bald.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Is there something that doesn't make him angry?
  • Irony: Back in the 90s, Mr. Morris had the dream of becoming a famous musician, and one of his students was a troublemaker named Bruce Evans, whom he would constantly tell that he had no future whatsoever as he was disobedient and would constantly insult him. Fast-forward to present day and Evans has completely grown out of his rude behaviour and is the CEO of the business that provides the paper Toad Town High uses, while Mr. Morris is still the same bitter teacher he was thirty years ago.
  • Jerkass: He is extremely harsh and would not hesitate to give you an infuriated earful of a lecture. It's stated that he once yelled at Grace so much that he made her cry.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Although Morris can be harsh to everyone and everything, even he was getting a little annoyed at Coach Johnson for overreacting about not having a girlfriend because he has been in the same position twice while he was married.
  • No Indoor Voice: Screams all the time.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Delivers one to the entire class in "Carl's New Teacher" right before quitting.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Had an anger breakdown and quit his job at the beginning of "Carl's New Teacher". He came back some episodes later though

    Lucy Bishop

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lucina_bishop_remaster.png
Ms. Bishop in the Seasons 1, 2 and 3 remasters
Original appearence

Debut: "The First Day"
Voiced in the Classic episodes by: FreezeFlame22
Voiced in the Remastered episodes by: Carmen (2022), BluePastels (2024-Present)
Carl's former Homeroom teacher at Toad Town High, as well as his Science, English and Spanish teacher among other things. In the original episodes, Miss Bishop is a cranky and cynical woman with no passion for her job and who believes the students have no future whatsoever, as she thinks of them as stupid and incapable of anything. In the remastered episodes however, Ms. Bishop is slightly nicer, yet still apathetic
  • Adaptational Name Change: In the classic episodes her first name is stated to be "Lucina", but in the remasters she is called "Lucy", though it is possible that "Lucy" is just short for "Lucina".
  • Age Lift: The remastered episodes make her significantly older.
  • Apathetic Teacher: She always seemed to be very unsatisfied and unninterested in her job as a teacher. She also openly insulted her students and gave them detention for the tiniest things. It has been toned down in the remastered episodes, in which she is still apathetic, but is not rude to her students anymore.
  • The Bus Came Back: After leaving for the Kaktus Kingdom in "Happy Anniversary", Ms. Bishop returns for the remastered episodes of the first three seasons of Carl, with a brand new design to boot, and it's been confirmed that she will return on season 6 of the series.
  • Jerkass: Not surprising, given that she insults her students while teaching class and does not care whether they learn something or not. Completely absent in the remaster.
  • Precision F-Strike: "SHUT THE *** UP, GORDY!"
  • Put on a Bus: She left for the Kaktus Kingdom after she was offered a job as a teacher at a school there. Carl even lampshades how she is never coming back. Carl later turns out to be wrong, as it's been confirmed that Ms. Bishop will return to the series in season 6.
  • Sadistic Teacher: Constantly insults her students while class is in session, gives them detention for the tiniest mistakes they make and things that are out of their control, and when these try to explain something to her, she penalizes them for "answering her back". This trait has been removed in the remaster.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Until Staffordshire's debut, Ms. Bishop was the only prominent female faculty member of Toad Town High. Ironically, Staffordshire herself became this after Ms. Bishop was Put on a Bus.
  • Teacher/Student Romance: Downplayed. She went to the School Dance with Boo as her date because 1) she caught him looking up her shell, and 2) she couldn't find a date of her own in time.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: The remastered episodes make her less of a grumpy woman who openly insults her students, as while she's still shown to be rather apathetic towards her job, she is considerably nicer to the students, such as telling Gordy not to laugh at Carl for being bullied by Gooper.
  • Two Girls to a Team: She and Staffordshire were the only prominent female faculty members of Toad Town High. After Ms. Bishop left however, Staffordshire became the only prominent woman among the school's faculty.

Toad Town Residents

    Felix Grey
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/felix_grey.png
Debut: "Mr. Mitchell vs. Mr. Grey"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22 (2018), Poppilo Power (2018-Present)
Grace's father. Felix Grey is a friendly, mature and selfless man who is very pleasant to be around... unless your name is Calvin Mitchell, because then you will just find him annoying.

    Dominik Bones

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dominik_bones.png
Debut: "The Motorhome Trip"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
Dry Bones' neglectful and emotionally abusive father. Dominik Bones hates his son and mocks him at every opportunity he has.
  • An Arm and a Leg: He is missing one leg, and thus uses two walking sticks to move around.
  • Abusive Parents: Probably the worst example in any of Freeze's shows. He openly admits that he hates his son and that he would be really happy if he were to disappear from his life altogether.
  • The Chain of Harm: Judging from the way his own father talks to him and how everyone in his family hates each other, it's implied that Dominik himself was constantly abused and mistreated by his relatives growing up, a behaviour that he is now inflicting onto Dry Bones. Unlike Dry Bones however, Dominik appears to have been oblivious to all this abuse growing up, as he seems rather unaffected by his own father's insults, whereas Dry Bones developed his blunt personality and tendency to make up lies about his home life so that he doesn't have to admit to himself that his father will never love him.
  • Dem Bones: Just like Dry Bones, as he and all of his family lost their skin in a fire.
  • Hate Sink: He is nothing more than an abusive and neglectful father.
  • Jerkass: What his whole character amounts to. He basically exists to explain why Dry Bones feels so lonely and insecure.
  • Kick the Dog: Plenty of examples. He often mocks Dry Bones for anything that happens to him, whether that'd be good or bad, and when Dry Bones tries to stand up for himself he threatens with kicking him out of the house.
  • Oblivious to Hatred: Dominik is rather oblivious to the fact that his father, Dobrimir, hates him just as much as he hates Dry Bones, often believeing that he is agreeing with him when he is instead insulting him.
  • Teacher/Parent Romance: He tries to invoke this by flirting with Staffordshire in "Parents Evening". Staffordshire just ends her meeting with him without saying anything about Dry Bones' academic performance.

    Dobrimir Bones

Debut: "The Motorhome Trip"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22 (2017-2018) Poppilo Power (2019-Present)
Dry Bones' 94-year-old grandfather, who is known for his potty mouth and short temper.

    Gregory and Gladys Who
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_whos.png
Gladys (left) and Gregory (right)
Debut: "Too Much Water" (Gregory), "Playing Hookie" (Gladys)
Gregory is voiced By: FreezeFlame22
Gladys is voiced by FreezeFlame22 (2017-2018), AverageToaster19 (2020-Present).
Boo's bumbling parents, whom he takes a lot of his personality traits from.
  • Bumbling Dad: Both of them are bumbling parents. It's clear that they love Boo and do their best to raise him, especially with their limited assets, but they are also quite oblivious to Boo's perverted anttics among other things.
  • Good Parents: In contrast to many of the other parents that aren't Calvin, Linda or Felix, Boo's parents genuinely love Boo for who he is and have never been abusive or indifferent towards him or just see him as something to brag about.
  • Like Parent, Like Child: They are just as stupid as Boo is.
  • Messy Hair: Both of them have unkept hair, likely to emphazise that they live in poverty.
  • Parental Obliviousness: They don't seem to notice any of Boo's perverted tendencies, with Gladys finding it strange that teachers try not to seat him with female students and Gregory not finding it surprising that he knows a lot of female actresses names.
  • Perpetual Poverty: The Who family lives in poverty and it's stated that they cannot afford proper heating. Despite this, they never seem to have trouble with food or school material for Boo. They also don't seem to mind their economical status, though that might be due to their quirky personalities.

    Catherine and Danny Smith

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/danny_smith_9.png
Debut: "Mr. Mitchell vs. Mr. Grey"
Catherine is voiced By: FreezeFlame22 (2018), Carmen (2020-Present).
Danny is voiced By : FreezeFlame22 (2018), Poppilo Power (2020-Present).
Roxanne and Liam's parents. Catherine and Danny are a snooty married couple that constantly brags about their daughter's achievements in school but always ignore their son for not being as smart as she is.
  • Doting Parent: They love to brag about Roxanne's good looks and high grades. Unlike most examples however, they seem to do this because they see Roxanne more as a trophy they can show off than a daughter.
  • Hate Sink: A pair of stuck-up assholes who neglect their son purely because they can't brag about him, leading said son to end up with the wrong type of crowd and become a troublemaker, and treat their daughter as a trophy, clearly not caring about who she is, but what she achieves.
  • Horrible Judge of Character:
  • Jerkass: Catherine is always bragging about Roxanne to the other parents and often believes herself to be superior to others. Carl also mentions in "Logan's New Place" that she dates other men behind her husband's back, which Danny actually seems to be aware of since he isn't even sure if he is the father of Roxanne and Liam.
    • Jerkass Has a Point: Although Gooper was partially responsible for the kidnapping of Roxanne, Catherine was right to point out how he "saved" her from Bodak's gang in "Bad Roxanne".
  • Mama Didn't Raise No Criminal: If Roxanne gets in trouble for something, Catherine will be quick to shift the blame from her to someone else. Major stand-outs include justifying Roxanne buying Grace her first beer by saying that Grace probably made her buy it, or blaming Staffordshire for trying to force Roxanne to come to school during Spring Break even though Staffordshire only did it because Roxanne was disrespecting faculty members and breaking school rules.
  • Obnoxious Entitled Housewife: Catherine. She is rude and is constantly demeaning everyone, yet also expects people to do her will without questioning.
  • Phoneaholic Teenager: Danny is an adult version of the trope. Starting with Season 5, he's mostly seen on his phone and not paying any attention to his surroundings. This is likely a result of him giving up on his wife and kids, and probably life in general.
  • Stopped Caring: It's clear that Danny has lost all interest in his wife and kids, failing to notice that Roxanne had been missing for a month and clearly not giving a damn when she began disrespecting Principal Staffordshire.
  • Parental Neglect: To Catherine and Danny, Liam is The Unfavorite and Roxanne is the Trophy Child. If they are not outright forgetting about Liam's existence, they will be comparing him to his sister Roxanne. This is the reason why Liam is the way he is. Also, while not to the same extent as Liam, Catherine and Danny seem to see Roxanne more as a trophy they can brag about than a daughter they love and likely don't know much about her other than her being a popular girl who gets high grades.
  • Parental Obliviousness: They both forget that Liam even exists sometimes, and completely ignore everything about Roxanne that is not her good looks or high grades. Danny also failed to notice that Roxanne once went missing for a whole month.

    Kristen Allenby
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kristen_allenby.png
Debut: "Parents Evening"
Voiced By: AverageToaster19
Kylie's mother. Kristen is a two-faced woman who only gets along with other people for her own benefit. She is also known for cheating on her husband on a daily basis.
  • Education Mama: Kristen has shown to be very concerned about Kylie's education many times in the series, and seems to blame her lackluster academic performance on her flings with boys.
  • Gold Digger: Seeing how she is a Plastic Bitch who only gets along with other people for her own benefit, it's not surprising to learn that Kristen has been married many times, all of them for money.
  • Jerkass: Kristen is incredibely shallow and two-faced, constantly talking bad about her friends behind their back, only associating to other people due to their possessions, and constantly cheating on her husband Bill. She very casually states that she burns Bill's clothes whenever she feels disappointed by him.
  • My Beloved Smother: Kylie frequently mentions that her mother puts her under a lot of pressure when it comes to school. It seems to have the opposite effect, as Kylie doesn't exactly get the highest grades in her class.
  • Parental Obliviousness: She found out about Kylie having... certain pictures of women in her phone, but the idea that her daughter was also attracted to women didn't even cross her mind.
  • Parents as People: Kylie seems to have a complicated relationship with her parents, given how casually she talks about her mother cheating on her father all the time and how she usually doesn't expect much from them. In addition, there is also the possibility that Bill is not Kylie's father, but rather a step-father.
  • Plastic Bitch: She has had heavy plastic surgery on her face and is a completely dishonest person, often hanging out with people she dislikes because of their wealth and being unfaithful to her husband on a daily basis.
  • Really Gets Around: Kylie very casually mentions that her mother cheats on her father with her boss and dates a lot of men simultaneously. In "Logan's New Place", Kylie mentions that she has a half-brother, and as confirmed by Word of God, he is older than Kylie, meaning that he is Kristen's son from a previous marriage.
  • Serial Spouse: According to Word of God, Kristen has been married multiple times before Bill, all times being for monetary reasons. So far only two marriages are confirmed to have produced children, those being Kylie, obviously, and her older half-brother, who as stated above is Kristen's son with another man whom she divorced before marrying Bill.

    Nessa Squidd
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nessa_squidd.png
Debut: "Too Much Water"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
Blooper's mother. Nessa Squidd is a cranky woman who is severely burnt-out from having to take care of her five sons following her husband's death.
  • Abusive Parents: She is constantly seen verbally abusing all of her kids and thinks of them as disappointments. She doesn't bother defending Blooper when his older brothers pick on him either. Unlike other Abusive Parents in the series, it's implied that Nessa acts like this not because she is nasty by nature, but due to the stress of being the only breadwinner of the family and having to raise five kids on her own, four of which are uninterested in education or getting a job while the most promising one is still in high-school.
  • Alcoholic Parent: Implied. In "Toad Town Grammar" she is seen drinking on a bottle of beer while calling her children "ungrateful dickheads", with the implication here being that she turns to alcohol as a way to relieve stress.
  • Freudian Excuse: It's implied that the stress of having to be the only breadwinner in the house after her husband's death is what turned Nessa into a cranky woman who takes her frustrations out by getting drunk and insulting her children. It probably doesn't help that her four eldest kids don't want to get a job and don't appear to have an interest in education and her youngest and most promising son is still in high-school.
  • A Lighter Shade of Black: To the other Abusive Parents in Carl. Nessa might be verbally abusive and seem to not care much about her sons, but it's implied that it's less that she is nasty by nature and more that she is severely burnt-out from having to both raise her children and be the only one who brings money into the house following her husband's death. In fact, it's a bit hard to blame her for her situation given that her four eldest sons are shown to be Ungrateful Bastards who blow her hard-earned money on parties and trips, and who to add more insult to injury, have no interest in education or bother to get a job despite being aware of their mother's situation. She also did say she was proud of Blooper for his intelligence and high grades and that she wishes her other kids were like him. Compare all of that to parents like Dominik (who openly admits he hates Dry Bones and that he wouldn't care if he were to disappear from his life altogether), Catherine and Danny (who treat Roxanne like a trophy and only like her because they can brag about her, and at the same time ignore and put Liam down because they can't brag about him, leading Liam to become the person he is today), Kristen (who is heavily implied to be the source of many of Kylie's insecurities), or Ronald (who is a Control Freak who pesters Talia all the time, frowns down upon any decision she makes on her own, and thinks that all the abuse he puts her through is good parenting).
  • Location Theme Naming: She is named after Loch Ness, as well as the Loch Ness Monster.
  • Pet the Dog: Although she is not exactly the best mother, it is shown that she is proud of Blooper for his good grades, and that wishes that her other sons were as smart and hardworking as him.
  • Struggling Single Mother: Following her husband's death, she was left as the only breadwinner of a family of five children. Eventually, she became so burnt-out that she resorted to blow off her accumulated stress by insulting her children.
  • Stopped Caring: Being so severely burnt-out has caused her to give up on life, seeing as she doesn't bother to defend Blooper when his older brothers mistreat him, preferring to turn to alcohol and openly insulting her children as a way to relieve stress.
  • Teacher/Parent Romance: The ending of "Parents Evening" shows that she had gone on a date with Mr. Moore, though it's unknown if it ever went any further than that.
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: Starting with season 4, she wears a pink bow on her head, both to distinguish her from her kids and to emphasize that she's a woman.

    Blooper's big brothers
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/squidd_brothers.png
Clockwise from top left: Neon, Patagonia, Common and Longfin.
Debut: "Too Much Water"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
Longfin, Patagonia, Neon and Common Squidd are Blooper's older brothers. Whenever they show up it is usually to make fun of their little brother.
  • Big Brother Bully: All of them towards Blooper, as they pick on him for being smaller and weaker than them and for not going to the same school as them, constantly bringing down his spirits for every little thing he does.
  • The Ditz: Common doesn't seem to be very smart.
  • Flat Character: Outside of bullying Blooper, they don't really have much personality to speak of. Common and Neon do show bits of unique personality, mainly stupidity and being annoyed at said stupidity respectively.
  • Gratuitous English: Patagonia says that he had only learned English relatively recently and thus makes a few mistakes when talking. He also calls it "Englandish".
  • Hate Sink: They are four obnoxious, lazy and Ungrateful Bastards who do nothing but bully their younger brother and have absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
  • Inexplicably Identical Individuals: They all look exactly the same, being slightly larger than Blooper. It is possible that they are quadruplets, but this is uncertain, as the same also applies to their mother, who is larger than all of them and wears a pink bow. They can really only be differentiated by the accessories each of them wears, which were only introduced in Season 5.
  • Jerkass: The four of them spend most of the screentime they have bullying Blooper. They also don't bother helping their mother make ends-meet by getting jobs despite being old enough to do so.
  • Lazy Bum: The four of them are old enough to start working and help their mother earn money, yet they do nothing but laze around and bully their younger brother. To add insult to injury, they don't appear to have an interest in education either.
  • NEET: It's stated that the four of them don't have an interest in education and don't bother getting a job to help their mother either.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: While it isn't known if they are quadruplets, they all look exactly the same, and starting with Season 5, each one wears a specific accessory so that the audience can tell them apart; Neon wears a greenish blue hat, Patagonia wears a green bandana, Common wears a snorkel, and Longfin wears a red and white visor.
  • No Sympathy:
    • The four of them are perfectly aware of their mother being severely stressed out as a result of both having to take care of them and Blooper and having to work long hours to bring money into the house. What do they do about it? laze around the house and blow off her hard-earned money on vices. To add more insult to injury, it's stated none of them care about their education.
    • They mock Blooper for having a crush on Roxanne, saying that Roxanne will never like him back and that she's probably with another boy as they speak, even though Roxanne had gone missing for over a month at the time that conversation happened.
  • Theme Naming: They are all named after different species of squid.

    Kenny Harrison
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kenny_harrison.png
Debut: "Pidgey Problems"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22 (2017-2020) InstaButNot (2020-2022), gamesnathanlikes (2023-Present)
Logan's best friend and flatmate. Kenny is rumored to be a very dangerous individual, often seen with firearms and being implied to have ties to shady business, but he is portrayed as a polite and friendly person.
  • Affably Evil: Kenny is frequently implied to be a criminal who has committed murder during his past. However, he is actually very friendly.
  • Ambiguously Evil: On numerous instances, he is heavily made out as an delinquent who's not above committing murder. However, in most of his time on-screen, he is portrayed as a very helpful person who would lend a hand for Carl and his friends at the nick of trouble.
  • The Dreaded: Everybody is absolutely terrified of Kenny. Even Calvin, Toad Town's local chief of police, is a nervous wreck around Kenny. In particular, whenever Calvin makes a snarky comment about Kenny and the latter gives off the impression that he's actually offended, Calvin would anxiously retract that comment in an instant.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: Kenny and Logan are friends and flatmates. Logan is in his early 20s whereas Kenny is in his 40s.
  • Neighbourhood-Friendly Gangsters: He is suggested to be a dangerous person, but he is very polite whenever we do see him.
