Wars of Frozen Flames, Part 1: The Feeble King.

House of Kayenne, the Monarchs.

    King John Koopa VI
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/king_john_koopa_vi.png
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
The twenty-ninth monarch of the Koopa Kingdom, also known as the titular "Feeble King" by historians. King John Koopa VI was crowed king of the Koopa Kingdom at the age of nine months old following the death of his father John Koopa V. Unfortunately, John suffers from an hereditary illness known as "Bohnenkraut Madness", which was passed off to him by his mother and causes him to be completely derranged. In his case, the illness causes him to behave like an immature child, often throwing tantrums and crying fits whenever he is told to carry out his duties as a king. Because of his incompetency, the Koopa Kingdom has been on the brink of economical and belligerent disaster for quite a while now.
  • Afraid of Blood: He says that he dislikes executions precisely because of this reason.
  • Awful Wedded Life: John and Cynder's marriage is loveless due to John to how immature and stupid John is. Because of this Cynder was having an affair with Blayne Phoenix, who not only got her pregnant with Prince Godwin, but also convinced her to tell John to make his father Sigmund King's Claw.
  • Cannot Keep a Secret: It's stated that he is unable to keep a secret, not because he is a snitch, but because of his stupidty.
  • The Ditz: He is very, very dumb. He actually believed that Lady Jane's child was his son despite Jane being his cousin and him being married to Cynder for seven years.
  • Foil: He and his cousin Lord Richard are complete polar opposites. Aside from the fact that their motives are fire and ice respectively, their personalities couldn't be more different. John is childish, easily frightened by everything, and Prone to Tears, whereas Richard is mature, brave, and not easily scared by anything. John is incapable of running a kingdom and is controlled like a puppet by many, while Richard is more than capable of doing it, but everyone laughs at him whenever he tries to put things in order. John and Queen Cynder have a loveless marriage with no children (as Godwin is actually Blayne and Cynder's bastard child), whereas Richard and Lady Tulisa are deeply in love with each other and have seven kids.
  • Girls Have Cooties: He often states how "girls are gross", and his marriage to Cynder is completely loveless. Word of God has stated that he finds vaginas terrifying and that nude bodies disgust him.
  • Good Is Dumb: In a time period where everybody is frequently at odds, in spite of his condition, John is among the more reasonable. He dislikes violence and even when he feels the need to execute a punishment, his sentences are always comparatively tame.
  • He-Man Woman Hater: A very childish version of the trope. Because his madness manifests in him having the mental age of a child, John often states how "girls are gross" and is shown that whenever he wasn't crying when Cynder told him to do his job, he was ignoring her as much as possible, even when she tried to be nice to him, which slowly but surely turned Cynder bitter and cruel.
  • It Runs in the Family: From the Koopa Family side, His fondness for alcoholic drinks, especially wine, and from the Von Speckbohne family side, the mental illness known as "Bohnenkraut Madness".
  • Kindhearted Simpleton: Despite his mental illness, he isn't so much a cruel tyrant who aims to violent ways, unlike his wife Queen Cyder. Glossing over his mental condition, he's at least amiable.
  • King Bob the Nth: His grandfather was King John Koopa IV and his father was King John Koopa V.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: Unlike his father, John is an incompetent king who is terrified of the thought of having to battle to defend his territory.
  • Manchild: He is basically a child trapped in an adult's body. He cries at the most minor of things and still plays with toys. This is a result of him having a hereditary illness known as "Bohnenkraut Madness".
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Cynder and him are this. John is childish, incompetent and Prone to Tears, but he is a friendly person whereas Cynder is cruel, imposing, and likes to solve her problems in a violent way.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: He is based on King Henry VI of England.
  • Prone to Tears: Making him cry is not a hard task.
  • Spoiled Brat: Not counting the fact that he suffers from a mental illness, John himself seems to have never been propertly raised, as he usually starts crying when he has to do something he doesn't want to and demands to wanting to go back playing with his toys. It's very telling when the first thing he does when meeting Cynder is throw a tantrum just because she wasn't blonde.
  • The Wrongful Heir to the Throne: He is incompentent, childish and completely unfit to run a kingdom, and whenever he is told to do his job, he starts crying. the second episode of Part 2 reveals that this is because he suffers from "Bohnenkraut Madness", which manifets as him being a Manchild.

    Queen Cynder Von Bohnenrotte
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/queen_cynder_1477.png
Voiced By: Carmen
King John's wife. Cynder is an imposing woman with a short temper. She has zero patience, she is rude to everyone, and has no qualms about getting her hands dirty with blood if it means it will make her problems go away. However, beneath all this cruelty, lies a lonley and insecure woman who just wants to feel accepted and loved.
  • Abusive Parents: Judging from the way she talks about him, it's seems that Cynder never held her father in any high regard and that it's implied that he often lied to her, and even neglected her.
  • Awful Wedded Life: She was forced to marry a Manchild of a king who still plays with toys and thinks that Girls Have Cooties. To add insult to injury, everyone blames her for failing to produce an heir for the throne when it's clear that John has a negative and childish view of sex and women. You really can't blame her for having affairs with other men behind John's back.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: For how cruel and merciless Cynder is, it is shown that she truly loves her children Godwin and Cyndie, going as far as to slap Blayne when he points out the rumors of Godwin being a bastard, and going as far as to start plotting against Lord Richard out of fear that he might try to kill her son to become king himself. It also should be noted that Cynder named Godwin after her own brother, Godwin Von Reinbohne, showing that she admired her brother growing up.
  • Evil Redhead: An ambitious and cruel redhead queen. Granted, it's stated that if she had a happier life, perhaps she would be much nicer.
  • Fantastic Racism: She is beanish (from the Bohnenkraut Kingdom), so many people in the Koopa Kingdom look down upon her as a result.
  • Freudian Excuse: The reason she is so cruel is basically a result of being forced to marry a Manchild of a king (and to add insult to injury, she was told she would be marrying a "strong, fearsome warrior"), being looked down upon for being from the Bohnenkraut Kingdom, and blamed for failing to produce a child in the seven years that she and John have been married, when it was actually his childish distaste for women that were causing said problems. Her cruelty is the result of her having turned bitter and resolting to power as one of the few things she can cling to.
  • God Save Us from the Queen!: You really don't want to get on Cynder's bad side. She can be pretty scary when angry.
  • Hostage Situation: Following John's recovery and Richard escaping arrest, Cynder has Blayne and his men arrest Richard's sons Tobias and Rickon so that she could use the as bargaining chips against Richard. Later on Lord Gerald Garnet betrays Lord Richard by offering Lady Anna, Richard's daughter and Garnet's wife, to Cynder as her personal slave as a way to prove his loyalty to the Queen and her husband.
  • Jerkass: She is rude, selfish, cruel and doesn't have any patience whatsoever.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: Beneath all her harshness, Cynder is shown to be very lonley due to her marriage with John being a disaster and Blayne abandoning her. It's implied she envies women such as Lady Tulisa and Lady Jane due to their healthy marriages and having children of their own respectively. When her son Godwin is finally born, she even becomes slightly nicer, hinting that, for once in many years, she finally feels happy.
  • Lady Macbeth: She often tries to convince John to follow her example and run the kingdom with an iron fist. While John usually responds by telling her not to yell at him and crying, he often gives in to her demands.
  • Law of Inverse Fertility: Subverted. John and Cynder have been married for seven years and it's said that Cynder was often critizised for failing to produce a heir following the death of the first son she had with John, Prince Edrick, who only lived for three days, and then she suddenly lays an egg from which Prince Godwin is born a few months later. However, is not that Cynder had trouble getting pregnant, but that John thinks that Girls Have Cooties and never once had sex with her. Furthermore, John is not Godwin's father, Blayne is, which means that he is a bastard child.
  • Mama Bear: Cynder is extremely protective of Godwin and Cyndie, going as far as to plot against Lord Richard and gather men for her cause when he attempts to take Godwin away from her, believing that he wants to hurt her son.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: She and John are this. John is childish, incompetent and Prone to Tears, but he is a friendly person whereas Cynder is cruel, imposing, and likes to solve her problems in a violent way.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: She loves the sight of bloodshed, and is more than eager to execute the peasants that were leading an anarchist revolt.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Cynder is based on Margaret of Anjou, the wife of King Henry VI of England (who King John VI is based on).
  • Parenting the Husband: More often than not, she has to act as John's mother rather than wife due to his childish nature.
  • Really Gets Around: Excluding her affairs with Blayne Phoenix and Theodrick Solberg, it's implied that Cynder has been with a lot of other men.
  • Secret Relationship: She had one with Blayne Phoenix behind John's back. The moment his father Sigmund was impriosed by Lord Richard however, Blayne fled the Koopa Kingdom and abandoned Cynder. Additionally, Blayne is the father of Cynder's son Godwin, not John.
  • Sympathy for the Hero: When Lady Anna is offered to her as her personal slave by Lord Gerald Garnet, Cynder tells her that she does feel some pity for her, as Anna had all her expectations about her marriage shattered to pieces in very little time, just like Cynder when she was married off to John.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Her flashback of when she first met John shows her trying to be genuinely nice to him and attempting to make a good first impression, only for John to whine and cry because he wanted a blonde woman (in spite of him saying that "girls are gross"). It's stated that it all went downhill for that nice Cynder Von Bohnenrotte from there onwards.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Somewhat. After her son Godwin is born, she starts mellowing out to others she would often lash out to (especially Jane), and it's clear that she really does love him in spite of him being a bastard child, as she even names him after her deceased brother, whom she admired. However, she still wants to remain under power and takes the opportunity to have Lord Richard removed as regent and arrested as soon as John recovers from his vegetable state, even going as far as to have two of his sons arrested and gladly taking his daughter as a personal slave when offered to.
  • The Von Trope Family: She comes from the Von Bohnenrotte family. It's Justified as she's from the Bohnenkraut Kingdom, which takes inspiration from both France and Germany.

    Prince Godwin Koopa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/prince_godwin.png
The prince of the Koopa Kingdom. After seven years of marriage to King John, Queen Cynder finally gives birth to an heir for the throne whom she names Godwin... except that's not quite what happened. Godwin is a bastard child, as his father is actually Blayne Phoenix and not John.
  • Babies Make Everything Better: Aside from solving the problem of having a direct heir to the throne (as long as the fact that he is a bastard child isn't discovered), Godwin's birth causes Cynder to become slightly nicer, which makes sense as she may not feel as isolated with a child by her side.
  • Dead Guy Junior: Cynder names him after her deceased brother Godwin, whom she describes as a strong warrior.
  • Foregone Conclusion: The list of all of Monarchs of the Koopa Kingdom show that Godwin will not become king and instead it will be Robert who succeeds John VI as king. Whether his status as a bastard child was outed or something else that removed him from the picture happened is yet to be seen.
  • Gonk: We'll be honest here, Godwin is a very ugly baby.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Prince Godwin is based on Edward of Westminster, Prince of Wales. Similar to Edward with Henry VI and Margaret of Anjou, Godwin is the only son of John VI and Cynder.

House of Sherbet

    Lord Richard Koopa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lord_richard_koopa.png
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
The Duke of Sherbert Land and the king's cousin. Lord Richard Koopa is a responsible individual that holds a great amount of respect for the late King John V as well as his subordinates. Upon hearing of Lord De la Korde's death at the hands of anarchists, he steps in to take the role of King's Claw, only to be unpleasantly surprised when he is told that the job has been taken by Lord Sigmund Phoenix, who not only is a corrupt and self-centered man, but also abandoned his troops to die during a battle and refused to take responsibility for his actions. From there onwards, Richard tries to knock some sense into the nobility, only to be laughed at every single time. The last straw comes when Cynder organises a Loveday feast just to inform him that because she has laid an egg, he is no longer next in line to the throne. Following King John falling into a vegetable state due to the loss of the war with the Bohnenkraut Kingdom, Richard has Sigmund arrested and takes the role of regent of the kingdom. When John awakens one year later however, Cynder has him order for Richard to be put under arrest and for Sigmund to be freed, although Richard flees the scene before he can be arrested.
  • Ancestral Name: His father was also named Richard, and he himself named his fourth son and sixth child Richard, though he is called "Rickon" by others to differentiate the two. There's also the former King Richard Koopa II, but that's likely more of a case of One-Steve Limit since it's unlikely anyone would have named a child after a psychopathic king.
  • Clashing Cousins: Subverted. Despite being two completely different people, Richard and John get along fairly well. It's the questionable actions of Queen Cynder and John's corrupt advisors who ultimately lead to Richard and John's relationship turning into this.
  • Enraged by Idiocy: In his case, he is completely fed up with the Royal Cabinet's ineffectiveness at dealing with the Kingdom's crisis and Sigmund being rewarded for what's basically desserting his troops and leaving them to die.
  • Happily Married: He and Tulisa love each other very much, which is a huge contrast to John and Cynder's marriage.
  • It's Personal: As if his issues with Cynder and all of John's corrupt advisors weren't enough, Cynder then orders for Tobias and Rickon to be imprisoned, and later on Anna is handed over to her as a slave by Lord Garnet. His children being in danger is what finally pushes Richard to rise up an army against his enemies.
  • Foil: He is the complete opposite of John, being intelligent, brave and a competent leader who has a healthy relationship with his wife.
  • Nephewism: His mother died shortly after laying the egg from which he hatched and his father was executed for treason when he was six years old, so he was raised by his uncle Lord Raymund Kassimeer.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Lord Richard is clearly based on Richard of York, even having the same name as him.
  • No-Respect Guy: He is often mocked and laughed at whenever he tries to assert order in the mayhem that is the corrupt Royal Cabinet. When he has Sigmund arrested and becomes regent however, people stop laughing at him.
  • Only Sane Man: Everyone else in the cabinet is corrupt, incapable, or both (with Lord Berwick, Sir Torrence and Sir Rodrick being among the few exceptions), clearly taking advantage of King John's incompetence, and he seems to be the only one who is actually concerned about the well-being of the kingdom and its inhabitants.
  • Papa Wolf: Threatening Richard's children is not a good idea, as the Kayenne forces found out by taking Tobias, Rickon and Anna hostage.
  • Rage Breaking Point: He reaches his when Queen Cynder invites him over for a Loveday feast with the purpose of mocking him about her laying an egg and him no longer being heir to the throne. He ends up drawing out his sword and ready to strike at Lord Sigmund for threatening him with death, almost causing a fight to break out.

    Lady Tulisa Python
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lady_tulisa_python.png
Voiced By: Carmen
Lord Richard's loving wife. Tulisa supports her husband and kids in everything they does, but does often try to give them advice so their actions don't come back to bite them in the end.
  • Good Parents: Absolutely adores her children and often tries to help them find what's most suitable for them.
  • Happily Married: She has a loving relationship with Richard. Doubles as a Perfectly Arranged Marriage, as they didn't know each other before getting married, but quickly became a loving couple.
  • Long Hair Is Feminine: Her hair reaches her tail and she has all the traits associated to a Proper Lady, as she is very devoted to her husband (just like he is very devoted to her) and her children.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Tulisa is based on Cecily Neville, wife of Richard of York (whom Lord Richard is based on).
  • Proper Lady: She is a nice, caring mother devoted to her husband and children, but she is far from being a pushover and often tries to warn them to not do anything that they might regret later.
  • Women Are Wiser: Downplayed. Richard is just as intelligent as her, but she tends to be the more sensible of the two, usually keeping her emotions under control.

    Lady Olivia Koopa
Richard and Tulisa's eldest daugher and first child.
  • The Ghost: She is stated to be away in Skyland, hence why she hasn't appeared as of the second chapter of Part 1.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Olivia is based on Elizabeth of York, Duchess of Suffolk. A difference however is that Elizabeth of York was the second daughter and fourth child of Richard of York, whereas Olivia is the eldest of Lord Richard's children.

    Sir Robert Koopa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/robert_koopa.png
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
Richard and Tulisa's eldest son and second child.
  • Foregone Conclusion: As seen in the list of all of Monarchs of the Koopa Kingdom from Alfred I to Bowser II, Robert will become King Robert Koopa VI in the year 1481, being the thirty-second monarch of the kingdom.
  • Honor Before Reason: Even though he is heir to his father dukedom, he finds politics boring and would rather pursue a romance with his mistress Joanna instead of taking decisions that would benefit him in the long run. Specifically, he refuses to marry a woman he's never seen before in his life just for political gain and decides to marry Joanna for love.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Robert is based on the first son and second child of Richard York, Edward, better known as King Edward IV of England, this being further indication that Robert will become King Robert Koopa IV.
  • Successful Sibling Syndrome: Is implied Robert has an inferiority complex regarding his younger brother Halbert, who is far more responsible and diligent than he is, saying that he was the son their father Richard really wanted as instead instead of him.

    Sir Halbert Koopa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sir_halbert_koopa_9.png
Voiced By: Popplio Power
Richard and Tulisa's third child.

    Lady Anna Koopa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lady_anna_koopa.png
Voiced By: Carmen
Richard and Tulisa's fourth child.
  • Break the Cutie: Being betrayed by the husband who she thought would protect her and handed over to a cruel Queen as a slave takes a toll on Anna's sanity.
  • Damsel in Distress: Anna's husband Lord Garnet betrays her and her whole family, offering her to Queen Cynder as a personal slave to prove his loyalty to her and King John. Before her, her younger brothers Tobias and Rickon had also gotten imprisoned under Cynder's orders so that she could use them as bargaining chips against their father Richard.
  • Dead Girl Junior: It's implied Anna is named after her paternal grandmother, Lady Anna Kassimeer, who died after laying the egg from which her father Richard hatched.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: In the first part of "The Feeble King", Anna has light blue hair, wears silver high-heels and has light blue-painted nails. Starting with part 2, her hair is black with ice blue streaks, she wears black high-heels and black-painted nails. The color of her shell also changes from blue to black.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Anna is based on Anne of York, Duchess of Exeter. Unlike her real life counterpart, who was the first-born child of Richard of York, however, Anna is Lord Richard's second daughter and fourth child.
  • The Pollyanna: Anna is pretty optimistic and carefree about her marriage to Lord Gerard Garnet, even though she is aware that he has a reputation for being violent. Indeed, poor Anna was too naive for her own good.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Not as bad as her younger brother Tobias, but she does seem to think highly of herself, such as scoffing at Richard's decision of having her stay behind in Sherbet Land instead of taking her to Bright Valley, as she is about to be married off to a duke. That said, she is still shown to be optimistic and kind.

    Tobias "Toby" Koopa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tobias_koopa_1477.png
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
Richard and Tulisa's fifth child.
  • Attention Whore: Often tries to be the center of attention, especially if said attention comes from girls.
  • Big Brother Bully: To Rickon, whom he's often mocking. Judging from their interactions during Korrin and Jane's wedding, Tobias believes that he can boss Rickon around because he's older than him. It seems that the brothers don't entirely hate each other however, as they can get along quite well if both are on the same page about something.
  • Distressed Dude: He and Rickon get captured and are imprisoned in the Black Tower under Queen Cynder's orders after their father is declared a traitor following King John's recovery so that she can use them to blackmail Richard into turning himself in. Their sister Anna is also taken hostage, with her husband Lord Gerald Garnet betraying her and offering her to Cynder as a personal slave. This prompts Richard to declare war against the Kayenne Koopas to save his three children.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Tobias might be an Attention Whore with an inflated ego, but he is not entirely a bad person, as it's shown that he does care about Rickon in spite of constantly being at odds with him.
  • Momma's Boy: Despite having a huge ego and believing himself to be above his brothers, Tobias is still rather dependant on his mother Tulisa.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Tobias is based on George Plantagenet, Duke of Clarence, the third son and fifth child of Richard of York.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Clearly thinks he's above everyone else.

    Richard "Rickon" Koopa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rickon_koopa.png
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
Richard and Tulisa's youngest son and sixth child.
  • Ancestral Name: His father and paternal grandfather's names are both Richard.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Often responds to his siblings by using sarcasm.
  • Distressed Dude: He and Tobias get captured and are imprisoned in the Black Tower under Queen Cynder's orders after their father is declared a traitor following King John's recovery so that she can use them to blackmail Richard into turning himself in. Their sister Anna is also taken hostage, with her husband Lord Gerald Garnet betraying her and offering her to Cynder as a personal slave. This prompts Richard to declare war against the Kayenne Koopas to save his three children.
  • Fish out of Water: Rickon mentions that he has never been good with crowds of people, preferring one-to-one interactions or to be reading a book on his own.
  • Foregone Conclusion: As seen in the list of all of Monarchs of the Koopa Kingdom from Alfred I to Bowser II, Rickon will become King Richard Koopa III in the year 1503, being the thirty-fourth monarch of the kingdom.
  • Foreshadowing: Rickon often states that he whishes he'd become king and do something meaningful with his life. The list of Monarchs show that will indeed become king in the year 1503.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Rickon is based on Richard, Duke of Gloucester, better known as King Richard III of England. In contrast to Richard III of England, who was the youngest of Richard of York's children, Rickon is the sixth child of Lord Richard Koopa. According to Word of God, Rickon was made slightly older so that he could properly interact with his three brothers, who are all in their late teens and early 20s during "The Feeble King".
  • Sibling Rivalry: He has one with Tobias, whom he is often at odds with. The two of them are shown to get along pretty well if they are on the same page about something however.
  • Only Known By His Nickname: His real name is Richard, but everyone calls him "Rickon" to differentiate him from his father Richard.

    Ursula Koopa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ursula_koopa.png
Voiced By: AverageToaster19 (2022), YuriHaru567 (2023 - present)
Richard and Tulisa's youngest daughter and seventh child.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: Being merely a little girl during the first episode of the series, she's the youngest member of the House of Sherbet and is treated as such by her parents and siblings.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Ursula is based on Margaret of York, Duchess of Burgundy. Unlike her real life counterpart, who was the sixth child of Richard of York, Ursula is the youngest of Lord Richard's children. Word of God has stated that Ursula was made the youngest so that her brother Rickon, could properly interact with his three brothers, who are all in their late teens and early 20s during "The Feeble King".
  • Token Mini-Moe: While her siblings are either teenagers or young adults, Ursula herself is just a child.

House of Blackfoot

    Lord Symon Blackfoot
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/symon_blackfoot.png
Voiced By: InstaButNot (2022), FreezeFlame22 (2023)
The duke of Desert Hills and a member of the Royal Cabinet up until his death in the Battle of Whomp City. Very fond of vices, which explains his large amount of children, both legitimate and illegitimate. Eternal rival to Lord Berwick Python.
  • Abusive Parents: He verbally abuses his children for the most minor of reasons. In addition, his relationship with his children is rather uncaring, as he lets them get away with anything they do, but otherwise shows no love or concern for any of them.
  • Big Eater: Symon is, more often than not, seen eating or drinking, with very poor manners at that.
  • Lazy Bum: He is a very lazy nobleman. As stated by the Python brothers, he spends most of his time eating, drinking, and making babies with commoners.
  • The Pig-Pen: According to Torrence, Symon reeks of piss. This is further backed-up by his lack of table manners and how unhealthily he drinks and eats. With these being the Medieval Ages, it's truly a miracle that he lived up to the age of 64.
  • Really Gets Around: He sleeps around with multiple women, being unfaithful to all the other women he has been married to (four in total). However, because his family genes are so strong, the children are always born with the signature Blackfoot birthmark on one of their eyes, making it obvious that the bastards are his, and thus is forced to take care of them.
  • Screw Politeness, I'm a Senior!: He lived up to 64 years old and was a very cranky man, verbally abusing his children and openly mocking other nobles.
  • Slashed Throat: How he ultimately dies. In the Battle of Whomp City, during a one-on-one battle with Berwick, Symon gets his neck sliced by Berwick's sword, suffering an instant death.
  • Your Mom: "Your Dad" in this case. In Part II of "The Feeble King", when refusing to accept Richard's order to pay Torrence and Jorgon for the assault to the former's wedding feast perpetrated by his children, Symon insults both him and Richard's father, saying that he was a coward that died begging for his life. Richard's response to this is imprison three of Symon's sons, telling him that they will be the ones begging for their lives next time he does something stupid.

House of Python

    Lord Berwick Python
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lord_berwick_python_new.png
Voiced By: Swoldow EVGRB
One of the richest and most powerful politicians of the realm and the eldest of the three Python brothers.
  • Control Freak: Berwick likes to have things under his control at all times, whether that'd be the way his daughters are raised in or the decisions the royal cabinet takes regarding the state of the kingdom. If something doesn't go his way, chances are that he has a small burst of frustration.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Berwick is overly sarcastic, often answering people back with irony.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Berwick is clearly not happy with the direction King John's advisors and the Queen were taking the realm in, in addition to having to deal with people like Lord Symon Blackfoot or his half-cousin Birchard.
  • Strict Parents Make Sneaky Kids: He is stated to have raised Rose and Lily in a very strict manner, most likely so that he could get the most profits when it comes to marrying them off. Despite this, Lily is known for getting too comfortable around other men.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Berwick is based on Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick... also known as Warwick the Kingmaker.

    Lord Birchard Python
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/birchard_python.png
Voiced By: Swoldow EVGRB
The head of the House of Python and one of the least wealthy nobles of the realm. Birchard is heavily resentful of his half-relatives, believing that all of their possessions are titles that should belong to him and his family.
  • Ancestral Name: His grandfather, who was an important figure in history for helping place King John Koopa IV on the throne, was also named Birchard.
  • Butt-Monkey: Birchard gets the short end of the stick more often that he'd like, and in addition he has had a high streak of very bad luck throughout his life
  • Evil Is Petty: While he is more of a balding loser than genuinely evil, Birchard only sides against Lord Richard because of the close relationship and alliance he has with his half-cousins, as they are the nephews of Richard's wife Tulisa, and Birchard hates all of his half-relatives.
  • Hates Everyone Equally: He himself yells this during the Loveday feast in part I, indicating that he is only allied with the House of Kayenne because it's on his own interest and not because he genuinely likes the king.
  • Prematurely Bald: It's stated Birchard lost his hair when he was younger (He is in his late 40s as of "The Feeble King"), which became a major source of mockery among the nobility, especially his half-cousins.
  • The Resenter: When Birchard's grandmother Hariah died, his grandfather, also named Birchard, remarried to Lady Joanna Phoenix, who was of a richer family than the elder Birchard's first wife, being King John Koopa IV's half sister. Because of this, the elder Birchard greatly favored the children and grandchildren born from this marriage over the ones he had with his first wife. The younger Birchard greatly resents all of his half-relatives for this, claiming that it should be he and his family who deserve their titles and possessions.

    Sir Torrence Python
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/torrence_python.png
Voiced By: InstaButNot (2022) FreezeFlame22 (2023), gamesnathanlikes (2023-Present)
The second and middle child of the Lakeside Python brothers.
  • Affectionate Nickname: His niece Rose calls him "Uncle Tory".
  • Cool Uncle: He has a very affectionate relationship with his two nieces, especially with Rose, in contrast to Jorgon who is far more strict and blunt.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: In Part I of "The Feeble King", Torrence's hair is light blue, but starting with Part 2, it's been changed to indigo, with the addition of a pair of small horns now being visible.
  • Eyepatch of Power: He lost one of his eyes during a battlefield, prompting him to use an eyepatch to cover the scar that was left. Despite this, he is a very capable warrior and politician.
  • Gentle Touch vs. Firm Hand: When it comes to dealing with his two nieces, Torrence is much more easy-going and nurturing than Jorgon, who is far more strict and blunt. To the surprise of no one, Rose is heavily attached to Torrence, to the point of calling him "Uncle Tory".
  • Hot-Blooded: Torrence is notably much more prone to get into fights than his brothers, never being afraid to voice his thoughts on any type of situation.

    Sir Jorgon Python

Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
The third and youngest of the three Python brothers
  • The Big Guy: Of the three Python brothers, Jorgon is the heaviest and toughest one, despite also being the youngest.
  • Gentle Touch vs. Firm Hand: When it comes to dealing with his two nieces, Jorgon is far more strict and blunt than Torrence, who is much more easy-going and nurturing.

    Rosanna "Rose" Python
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rose_python.png
Voiced By: Carmen
Lord Berwick Python's youngest daughter and the love interest of Rickon Koopa.
  • Cute Bookworm: She is an attractive, intelligent and caring young lady who loves to read books, especially history books.
  • Family Theme Naming: Like her older sister, Rose is named after a flower.
  • Foreshadowing: She tells Rickon that she wants to do much more with her life than just be married off to someone by her father, and among those wishes are included finding one of the 7 Legendary Stars or becoming a queen. Considering who she is based on, it is not a stretch to say her life will definitely be interesting.
  • Mature Younger Sibling: She is the youngest of Berwick's daughters, but is far more mature than Lily, giving the wrong impression that she is the older sister.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Rose is based on Anne Neville.
  • Only Known By Her Nickname: Her name is "Rosanna", but she is mostly referred to as "Rose".
  • Nice Girl: She befriended Lady Jane when she needed it the most, and it's shown that out of all of Richard's children, she enjoys Rickon's company the most.

    Lilyanna "Lily" Python
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lily_python.png
Voiced By: AverageToaster19
Lord Berwick Python's eldest daughter and the mistress of Tobias Koopa.
  • Childish Older Sibling: She is the eldest of Berwick's daughters, but is much more immature than Rose, giving the wrong impression that she is the younger sister.
  • Family Theme Naming: Like her younger sister, Lily is nicknamed after a flower.
  • Gold Digger: When Ursula asks her what does she see in Tobias, Lily says that she is perfectly aware of his more undesirable traits, but that she actively exploits them to manipulate Tobias and get what she wants from him. Given her tendency to sleep around with other men, it is very likely Tobias isn't the only one of Lily's victims.
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple: She is the daughter of a rich nobleman and wears a purple shell, which compliments her natural purple hair.
  • Hypocrite: Lily thinks that Lady Jane Phoenix is a slut for having been married twice despite only being fifteen at the time of her second marriage, even though Lily herself likes the company of other men a bit too much.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: While she appears to be a ditzy Brainless Beauty who is hopelessly in love with Tobias at first, it soon becomes apparent that Lily is more smarter and cunning that she lets on, telling Ursula that she is perfectly aware of Tobias' inflated ego and constant need for attention and that she actively takes advantage of it because it makes him an easy target for manipulation. Lily is convinced that she will one day become Tobias' queen if he keeps exploiting his weaknesses.
  • Only Known By Her Nickname: Her name is "Lilyanna", but she is mostly referred to as "Lily".
  • Really Gets Around: Not only is she Tobias' mistress, she also has had many casual encounters with various other men. Were the circumstances for women any different, Lily would probably have the male equivalent of mistresses.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: She is based on Isabel Neville.

House of Solberg

    Sir Rodrick Solberg
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rodrick_solberg.png
Voiced By: Popplio Power

  • Expy: Rodrick's design is based off Roy from Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Following the wedding of Jane and Korrin, who Rodrick paired Jane up with, Lord Gaston Thorton notices that Rodrick feels jealous of Korrin for making Jane happy. Rodrick tries to deny this, but Lord Thorton is able to tell that he is indeed jealous of Korrin.
  • Nice Guy: He offered to raise James so that Jane wouldn't have to leave him with either Sigmund or Blayne. That said, Rodrick does this because he has a crush on her.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: He is based on Jasper Tudor.
  • Romancing the Widow: Subverted. He is in love with Lady Jane, but refused to remarry her after her husband died because he was also his brother and he felt it would be disrespecting his memory and thus is a bit jealous when Jane is married off to Korrin Sylver and they develop feelings for each other. He does offer to raise James after Jane is forced to give him up to someone at the service of the crown.

    Sir Theodrick Solberg
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/theodrick_solberg.png
Voiced By: Swoldow EVGRB

  • The Alcoholic: One of the characters that drinks the most in the series. It's also worth mentioning he is the same age as Jane (though this attitude was not rare in those times).
  • Dumb Muscle: He is strong, but doesn't appear to be very smart. What he has in muscles, he is severely lacking in brains.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Compared to Rodrick, Theodrick is very prone to act before thinking, and would rather use raw force than to stop to think about his actions.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Averted. Theodrick is one of the few characters in the series to not be based on any actual historical figure in the actual Wars of the Roses, being entirely original to the show.

    James Solberg
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/james_solberg.png
Lady Jane Phoenix and Sir Edrick Solberg's child, who was born shortly after the latter died. Because of the law of the time, Jane is not allowed to keep him after she marries and instead he is set to become a ward to someone at the service of the crown. Following Jane's marriage to Sir Korrin Sylver, she leaves James under the care of Sir Rodrick Solberg, her brother-in-law. As of part 1 he is just a baby.
  • Dead Guy Junior: Jane named her son after her father James, who died in captivity to free her uncle Sigmund.
  • Family Theme Naming: James and his mother Jane.
  • Foregone Conclusion: As seen in the list of all of Monarchs of the Koopa Kingdom from Alfred I to Bowser II, James will become King James Koopa I in the year 1505, being the thirty-fifth monarch of the kingdom and reigning alongside his wife Queen Korrina Koopa.
  • Foreshadowing: Rodrick mentions that he sees the eyes of a king in James and King John has the feeling that James will do something big in the future, hinting at the fact that James will become the future King James Koopa I in the year 1505.
  • It Will Never Catch On: Blayne and Tobias say that James will probably not live a long life and believe that he will be nothing but a ward to Rodrick. As mentioned under Foregone Conclusion, the kid they mock so much will end becoming king.
  • Nephewism: Jane is forced to give James up to someone at the service of the crown upon her remarriage, in accordance to the Kingdom's law of the time, and Rodrick offers to raise him so Jane won't have to leave him with either Sigmund or Blayne.
  • Parental Abandonment: His father Edrick died before he was born, and his mother Jane was forced to give him away to his uncle because the law of the time stated that if a woman were to become a widow, she would have to give whatever children she had to someone at the service of the crown as a ward upon remarriage. Korrin, Jane's new husband, tells her that they'll visit James as often as they can.

House of Phoenix

    Lord Sigmund Phoenix
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lord_sigmund_phoenix.png
Voiced By: Mononerd

  • Bullying a Dragon: Constantly giving Lord Richard death threats ended up with Richard and his troops deposing him from his position as King's Claw and imprisoning him.
  • Implied Death Threat: He often warns Lord Richard that if he continues to defy him, he'll end up like Prince Joseph, who everyone assumed disappeared under "non-suspicious circumstances".
  • Jerkass: He has no interest in helping John take good decisions for the well-being of the kingdom, but actively takes advantage of his incompetence to satisfy his own needs.
  • Dirty Coward: He fled from an important battle, left his own troops to die, and refused to take responsibility for his actions. He also blames them for getting themselves killed. History repeats itself at the Battle of Whomp City, where Sigmund hides away while his men fight, and then tries to flee once all of his forces have fallen, only that this time he answers for his crime, with his life.
  • Off with His Head!: Richard beheads him with his sword for all of his crimes (desertion, abandonment of his troops, and abusing his power for his own benefit among others).
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Sigmund attempts to do this during the battle of Whomp City but it goes about as well you’d expect as shown above.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Instead of being punished for desserting his own troops, Sigmund is chosen as King's Claw over Richard, and only because his son Blayne was having an affair with Queen Cynder, and he convinced her to tell John to give Sigmund the position.

    Sir Blayne Phoenix
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blayne_phoenix.png
Voiced By: Mononerd

  • Dirty Coward: After Lord Richard had his father imprisoned for all his crimes, Blayne fled the Koopa Kingdom, abandoning Cynder and their son.
  • Jerkass: He insults Jane, his own cousin, says that her baby will probably not live long, and even mocks her about her husband's death. He also abandons Cynder right after Sigmund is imprisoned and Richard takes the role of regent, right after getting her pregnant too. It appears he never once cared about Cynder as a person and only used her for his and his father's own goals.
  • Kick the Dog: Blayne insulting Jane by telling her that her son will probably not live long and mocking her over her husband's death says it all about him.
  • Like Father, Like Son: He is just as arrogant and unpleasant as Sigmund is, if not more. He also shares his father's cowardness, as he immedately fled the kingdom when his father was imprisoned and Lord Richard assumed control.
  • No Sympathy: Was there really any need to mock his own cousin about her husband's death?
  • Secret Relationship: He had one with Cynder and they both seemed to be into each other. However, as soon as things got complicated, Blayne fled the kingdom and abandoned Cynder, implying that he was merely using her for his and his father's own benefit. Additionally, he got Cynder pregnant with Godwin.

    Lady Jane Phoenix
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jane_phoenix.png
Voiced By: AverageToaster19

  • Death by Childbirth: Downplayed because she obviously isn't dead, but it is stated that after she laid the egg from which James was born, it damaged her reproductive system in the process and therefore she will never be able to bear another child.
  • Married Too Young: She was married off to Edrick Solberg, who was six years older than her, and then gave birth to James when she was 14. A few weeks before James' birth, Edrick died in a riding accident, so she was remarried to Korrin Sylver, who is only two years older her age, and was forced to give James away to someone at the service of the crown, Rodrick in this case.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Jane is based on Lady Margaret Beaufort.
  • One-Steve Limit: She has a cousin who is also named Jane (and who is Sigmund's daughter).
  • Sadistic Choice: She is told by Cynder and her uncle Sigmund that she either remarries and has to give her son up to someone at the service of the crown, or she stays single and gets to keep him, but they both will end up dying due to not being able to financially support herself because, in the words of Cynder, "she is a woman in the 15th century". Things do get slightly better for her, as Rodrick offers to raise James so she doesn't have to leave him with either Sigmund or Blayne, and the man she is married to, Korrin Sylver, is not only around her age, but also treats her wonderfully and tells her they'll able to visit James as often as they can.
  • Perfectly Arranged Marriage: At first she was very unenthusiastic about getting remarried to Korrin, as she would have to leave James under the care of Rodrick after the ceremony, but she slowly starts changing her mind about it because Korrin not only treats her with respect, but sympathises with Jane about her not being able to keep James just because her husband died and promises her that they'll visit James and Rodrick as often as they can.
  • Teen Pregnancy: She was only 14 when she gave birth to James. To add more insult to injury, her husband got himself killed while riding his mustie drunk and the egg James was in damaged her reproductive system when she laid it, meaning that she won't be able to have children ever again.
  • Token Good Teammate: Unlike Sigmund or Blayne, Jane is actually a nice person.

House of Sylver

    Lord Horace Sylver
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lord_horace_sylver.png
Voiced By: Swoldow EVGRB

  • Abusive Parents: Very blatantly favors his son Harrin over his son Korrin and is very quick to scold the latter for the most minor of things.
  • Dirty Coward: As if it wasn't clear enough that he only sides with those he perceives as more powerful (and thus someone whom he can leech off from), he is usually quick to hide or run away whenever trouble arises.
  • Loyal to the Position: Rather than being loyal to a specific fraction, Lord Sylver always sides with whoever has the most power and influence.
  • Professional Buttkisser: The only thing he seems to be good at is this. He only does this for his own gain, and always swears loyalty to whoever has the most power. Everyone is able to see right through his facade though.
  • Visual Pun: The other nobles refer to him as a "dicksucker", and just to drive the point further, he wears a necklace that is shaped like a penis.
  • Wacky Parent, Serious Child: While he is a Professional Buttkisser that only sides with people for his own benefit, his children are a completely different story, especially Korrin, who is a friendly young man and a loving husband to Jane.

    Sir Korrin Sylver
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/korrin_sylver.png
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22

  • The Klutz: Korrin is shown to be a bit clumsy, as shown by him overfilling cups of wine or accidentally shooting arrows at people by accident.
  • The Unfavorite: His father favors his brother more than him and is often scolding him for minor actions.
  • Married Too Young: He is Jane's second husband, and both were around the same age when they got married (14 years old). That said, Korrin is shown to treat Jane with absolute respect and promises her that they'll both visit her son James as much as they can.
  • Momma's Boy: Positive example. He mentions that his mother Rosanna was always the nicest to him, which is understandable given that his father doesn't think much of him. Because of this, he understands the pain Jane suffers from being separated from her son James.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Korrin is based on Sir Henry Stafford.
  • Nice Guy: Especially when compared to his father and brother. He is also shown trying his best to be a good husband to Jane.

    Sir Harrin Sylver
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/harrin_sylver.png
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22

  • The Casanova: Many women seem to have their eyes on Harrin. When Rose compares Korrin to Harrin, she even mentions how he is not as attractive as Harrin.
  • Gold Digger:
Theodrick: So Harrin, how's it feel being a married man?
    Harrin: Much richer!
  • Jerkass: Less overt than his father Horace, but Harrin doesn't appear to be a very pleasant individual, as he makes no effort in hiding that he is marrying Sigmund's daughter for power and wealth (though granted, that was a common stance in the 1400s).
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He shows that in Feeble King (V) where he stood up for Korrin as their cousins, Zachery and Cuthbert, weren’t taking it Seriously, then he even committed a Heroic Sacerfice to let his younger brother live.

House of Thornton

    Lord Ghaston Thornton
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lord_gaston_thornton.png
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
The mysterious and enigmatic head of House Thornton. Despite being a member of the royal cabinet, nobody knows much about him, and his goals appear to be an utter mystery.
  • Beneath the Mask: It is heavily implied that underneath Lord Thornton's stoic and calm demeanor lies a sadistic psychopath, as shown by the Slasher Smile he lets out when he orders his troops to fire arrows at the unsuspecting Kayenne forces during the Battle of Whomp City.
  • Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: His favourite drink is a wine-like beverage made of spices, berries and Scuttlebugs.
  • A Glass of Chianti: He is one of the most morally questionable characters, and he is often seen holding a cup of wine.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: He is a very mysterious individual and he has darkish grey skin and black eyes with red sclera.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: His black eyes are surrounded by red sclera and he's a very questionable man to say the least, which gets lampshaded by Lord Richard.
  • Slasher Smile: During the Battle of Whomp City, he lets out of these when he orders his troops to fire arrows at the enemies, striking them all by surprise. It's also one of the few times where the expression on his face has changed.
  • The Stoic: Lord Thornton always has a calm, enigmatic smile, often making it hard to decipher what he is thinking or what his goals are. Very rarely does he change the expression on his face.
