DK and friends

    Donkey Kong III (DK)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dk.png
Debut: "Pilot"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
The main character of Donkey Kong Island. DK is an easygoing guy who has an open mind about life, rarely focusing on the negatives and just wanting everyone to have a good time. He's very loyal to his friends, even his cynical boss K. Rool.
  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Wears the least amount of clothing among the Kongs, having a tie at best. He finally started wearing a whole outfit in "The Corporate Party".
  • The Ace: His parents constantly brag about his achievements.
  • Aerith and Bob: His real name is actually Donkey Kong, whereas everyone else except Dixie and Katryna have basic names, but are Only Known by Their Nickname.
  • All-Loving Hero: You'd be hard pressed to find anyone DK even remotely despise.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Do not mess with Diddy!
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: He's this to the much smaller Diddy.
  • Captain Oblivious: He does have his moments.
  • Comic Trio: Often The Fool to K. Rool's The Leader and Diddy's Only Sane Man.
  • The Ditz: Downplayed. He isn't outright stupid, but he can be a little foolish, much to K. Rool's chagrin.
  • Fatal Flaw: He is too quick to trust others and is Super Gullible, which usually causes more problems that it solves. The most dramatic example is his whole relationship with Candy.
  • Fan of the Underdog: He appreciates his boss, K. Rool. Despite the latter's status as the impatient Butt-Monkey, DK just wishes to see his boss succeed.
  • Gentle Gorilla: He is a large Kong with a good heart.
  • Gleeful and Grumpy Pairing: With King K. Rool, as the two are often paired together. DK is often optimistic while K. Rool has a clear word to say to everything.
  • Good Feels Good: Dk doesn't want any reward; he just wants everyone to be happy.
  • Kindhearted Simpleton: He can be a little naive, but he certainly means well.
  • The Kirk: He's less of a goofball compared to Chunky, Lanky, Tiny, and Kiddy, but he isn't too bright compared to Diddy and Dixie.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: One for K. Rool. While K. Rool has a family that looks down on him, a brother who often relish in his misfortunate, and a bunch of incompetent employees who have some gripes with their boss, DK is always there to support K. Rool in his toughest times.
  • Love Makes You Dumb: He gets manipulated like a pawn by Candy in "DK's Girlfriend" and even after knowing Candy cheated on him, he refuses to leave her. It takes a firm speech by K. Rool for DK to realize his mistake.
  • Nice Guy: He is friendly and relaxed most of the time. A little too friendly for his own good at times.
  • Only Known by Initials: His friends only refer to him as "DK."
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: While he often sympathizes with K. Rool, he gives him a (still relatively tame) "The Reason You Suck" Speech in "DK's New Girlfriend". You know Candy had taken a toll on DK.
  • Perpetual Smiler: DK always has a smile on his face.
  • The Protagonist: Is the main character of "Donkey Kong Island".
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Understands Rambi just fine.
  • Super Gullible: He is often too quick to trust others, allowing people like Candy to manipulate him like a pawn.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: He usually pities K. Rool, and never gets mad at him. Even when K. Rool had everyone frustrated with him in "The Night Shift", DK was only disappointed as worst and understood where K. Rool was coming from, even if he doesn't necessarily agree.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Bananas.

    Damien "Diddy" Kong
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/diddy_kong.png
Debut: "Pilot"
Voiced By: Poppilo Power
A small Kong and the younger brother of DK. While Diddy is often shy, a little insecure, and has the habit of getting embarrassed by his family, he has a good heart. While initially having feelings for Dixie, Diddy later meets Kitty and the two have been close partners since then.
  • Break the Cutie: Any time he goes into depression or a deep state of sadness.
  • Born Unlucky: Almost nothing ever goes right for Diddy. Things seem have been changing for the better for him as of late Season 2 however.
  • Butt-Monkey: Diddy is always the butt of all of the jokes. This was even more extreme in the earliest episodes.
  • Cannot Talk to Women: He is nervous around girls. He couldn't muster a word back when he had an attractive teacher. He seems to have gotten over this ever since he began dating Kitty.
  • Comic Trio: Often the Only Sane Man to K. Rool's The Leader and DK's The Fool.
  • Deadpan Snarker: If he isn't the one taking the abuse, then he'll make some snarky comments.
  • Deuteragonist: Is behind Donkey Kong in importance, with him dealing with Krusha and pursuing his crush on Dixie for the first season and the first half of the second one until he started dating Kitty.
  • Everyone Can See It: According to Kiddy, his crush on Dixie was fairly obvious.
  • Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: Only wears a red hat and shirt.
  • Huge Girl, Tiny Guy: His girlfriend Kitty is significantly taller than him.
  • The Lancer: To DK.
  • Never Bareheaded: Never seen without his hat, but he does throw it into the air in the intro.
  • No-Respect Guy: Along with K. Rool, Diddy used to take the abuse during the first season of the series. Unlike K. Rool, things eventually got better for Diddy.
  • Older Than They Look: Diddy can be mistaken for a teenager due to his short size, but he is actually 19 years old.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: People rarely refer to him as Damien.
  • Only Sane Man: Alongside Dixie, he's usually the most rational and normal character out of the Kongs.
  • Straight Man: He'll be sarcastic but also the main target for some jokes.
  • The Unfavorite: Downplayed. His parents don't mean to leave him in DK's shadow.

    Dixie Fitzgerald
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dixie_fitzgerald.png
Debut: "Pilot"
Voiced by: Xsytrixx (2019-2020), Carmen (2020-2022), YuriHaru567 (2023-Present)
DK and Diddy's co-worker and Tiny's older sister. Of the Kongs, Dixie is a tomboy who enjoys punk rock music and dreams of becoming a musician someday. Diddy used to have a crush on her, but once he settled with Kitty, Dixie subsequently comes to realize her mutual feelings for Diddy.
  • Abusive Parents: Apparently her parents would constantly yell and insult her, which caused her to run away from home.
  • Beauty, Brains, and Brawn: Forms this dynamic with Tiny and Katryna, with her being the Brains. Dixie appears to be the smartest and most rational of the three, directly complimenting her Deadpan Snarker personality, though she's a bit lacking in the emotional department, unlike Tiny or Katryna.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: She slowly developed a crush on Diddy due to him being one of the few boys who didn't treat her like a trophy or wasn't a complete Jerkass but was afraid of ruining their friendship. She soon regrets it when Diddy starts dating Kitty.
  • Deadpan Snarker: The most sarcastic of all the Kongs.
  • Distaff Counterpart: To Diddy. This is emphasized by an ongoing Hourglass Plot between them.
  • The Eeyore: She falls into depression after Diddy starts dating Kitty, as it emotionally hurts her to see him with another girl, but at the same time she doesn't want to selfishly ruin their relationship because she can see that Kitty genuinely cares for Diddy.
  • Goal in Life: Dixie's biggest dream is to become a musician.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Has blonde hair and is a nice girl.
  • Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: Like Diddy, she only wears a pink beret and shirt with no pants.
  • Little Big Sister: Dixie is Tiny's older sister, but she is much, much shorter than Tiny.
  • Older Than They Look: Dixie is 20 years old, but can easily be mistaken for a teenager due to her short size.
  • Only Sane Woman: Her and Diddy come off as pretty normal when compared to the other Kongs.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Wears nothing but pink. That said, she is a bit of a tomboy.
  • Prehensile Hair: She carries the barrels with her ponytail.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Her and Katryna are the Tomboys to Tiny's Girly Girl.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Dixie is a Tomboy and she often has her hair tied up into a long blonde ponytail, which is also prehensile.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Likes Punk Rock music, has a very... "edgy" writing style and many of her mannerisms are influenced by those two traits, but that doesn't stop her from dressing with pink clothes or maintaining a feminine appearance. According to Word of God, her character as a whole is based off Avril Lavigne, which perfectly explains everything.
  • Two Girls to a Team: In the first season of the series, Dixie and Tiny were the only girls in the main cast. The trope then became averted in season 2 with the introduction of Katryna.

    Charli "Tiny" Fitzgerald
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tiny_fitzgerald.png
Debut: "Pilot"
Voiced by: AverageToaster19
Dixie's younger sister, and Chunky and Kiddy's cousin. While her name doesn't indicate her height, it perfectly describes her brain's size (according to Dixie, at least). She does have moments of brilliance, however.
  • Beauty, Brains, and Brawn: Forms this dynamic with Dixie and Katryna, with her being the Beauty. Tiny is a Dumb Blonde that is often seen flirting with other men, sometimes even for personal benefit, but is still a good person at heart.
  • Big Little Sister: She is much taller but still younger than Dixie.
  • Ditzy Genius: Tiny shows shades of intelligence a lot of the times, especially when it's a critic situation.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: As unintelligent as Tiny may appear to be, she is constantly bringing up good points whenever the crew is facing a dilemma.
  • Dumb Blonde: Has two blonde pony tails and is not very bright.
  • Gold Digger: Tiny hooked up with K. Rool's rather unattractive cousin K. Ringe after finding out about how much money he had in his bank account.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Has blonde hair and is a good person at heart.
  • Humanoid Female Animal: DK walks on all fours, Diddy, Kiddy, and Dixie are short for their ages, and Chunky and Lanky have rather goofy proportions. Tiny, though. She is relatively humanoid in anatomy.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: Her real name, Charli, might be a reference to Charli D'Amelio, which if so, is very fitting as the latter also has an older sister named Dixie.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Tiny is one of the tallest characters in the series. It's been explained that her nickname does not refer to her height, but rather her stupidity: they're basically telling her that she has a tiny brain. note
  • The One Who Wears Shoes: Nobody but Tiny wears shoes.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: You'd be hard-pressed to find someone who actually calls her Charli (or Tina in the early episodes).
  • Really Gets Around: Tiny has quite a large dating history. One of the reasons why she had to be moved from the office in the warehouse was because she would constantly flirt with customers and use the computer to go on Tinder.
  • Sudden Name Change: Tiny's real name was originally stated to be Tina, but in "The Movie", K. Rool says that her real name is Charli.
  • Temporary Bulk Change: She temporarily gains weight in "One Fine Krapple!".
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The Girly Girl to Dixie and Katryna's Tomboy.
  • Two Girls to a Team: She and Dixie were the only two girls in DK's friend group for the first season of the series. Averted as of Katryna's introduction, which bumped the number of girls up to three.

    David "Lanky" Chapman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lanky_chapman.png
Debut: "Pilot"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
A close friend of DK and Diddy. He's an incredibly lazy orangutan who prefers eating grapes, sleeping on the job, and watching football games than being productive. For most of Season One, he lived at DK's house until Lanky’s Mistake, where he gets kicked out by Cranky and later moved into his own apartment.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Never eat all of his grapes.
    • Throw a suitcase (especially if it contains his own belongings) and he will try to kill you, not to mention that he will also attempt to go on a swearing fit.
    • Don't diss Liverpool while you are watching a football game with him in earshot.
  • Big Eater: Lanky has quite the appetite.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He's not only slothful, but he is also snide.
  • Freudian Excuse: He lived with DK and Diddy for five years (and possibly became a glutton for punishment) because his parents and siblings treated him like rubbish throughout his horrible life. It doesn't help that his two brothers make up excuses to avoid hanging out with him. However, Cranky doesn't see this as an excuse for Lanky's actions.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Some of Lanky's antics ranging from being snarky towards K. Rool, not doing any work and being an outright glutton can be justified. His parents have evicted him from a young age and turned their backs on him, causing Lanky to become the way he is today.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: As unhygienic, rude, obnoxious and unintelligent as he is, Lanky is good friends with Diddy and Chunky, best friends with DK and Kiddy and respects his boss on some occasions.
  • Lazy Bum: Well, a lazy orangutan.
  • The Load: He is known for being very lazy at work. When he lived with DK and Diddy, he didn't even bother paying rent.
  • Neet: He barely does anything at work, and for the first few episodes, he was mooching off of DK.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Not even Lanky's own brothers refer to him as David (same thing applies in reverse).
  • Only Sane Man: Well, the "sane" part is downplayed because Lanky acts just as irresponsible with his amenities and lifestyle as the rest of his family, but he is the only family member who has a job and is willing to try.
  • Oop North: He stands out from the main cast by speaking in a prominent Liverpudlian accent.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Need I remind you that Lanky doesn't know how to clean his filthy mouth, much less himself?
  • The Pig-Pen: Doesn't take care of himself or his house.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Grapes.
  • Verbal Tic: He uses "bloody" a lot. To be expected since he speaks with a northern England accent.

    Thomas "Chunky" Holcroft
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chunky_holcroft.png
Debut: "Pilot"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
Tiny and Dixie's cousin and Kiddy's older brother. Even though Chunky is the biggest of the bunch, he is a paranoiac who can be easily frightened. However, he has a gentle personality and will occasionally pull through just to help his friends when he needs to.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Chunky is a Gentle Giant with lots of fears, but mess with his family or friends, and he won't be afraid to use his size at his advantage.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He is very confrontational whenever Lanky makes an (often lewd) comment about Dixe or Tiny. He's also this to Kiddy, outright punching Krusha and his thugs when they were him beating up in "New Faces". He might be an utter wimp, but he won't stand to see his family in trouble.
  • The Big Guy: By far the largest of the warehouse, but he certainly doesn't act like it.
  • Butt-Monkey: Besides Diddy, he takes the most abuse out of all Kongs.
  • Cowardly Lion: He's the largest Kong, but he is also a huge coward.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Chunky is a huge pushover who is constantly paranoid about the smallest things, but he has some moments of badassery:
    • In "The Krembot", he ripped out the heart off the titular robot with his barehands.
    • In "New Faces", after seeing his younger brother getting beating up by Krusha, he strikes him with a punch and knocks him into a table.
    • In "Snow Madness", he gets a boost of confidence and saves the whole crew's skins by beating up the titular Snow Mads.
  • Drama Queen: Believe us, Chunky can make a fuss out of anything.
  • Freudian Excuse: In Gold Diggers, Chanky reveals that the reason why he's so scared of caves (and possibly most things) is because he once got stuck in a cave as a child.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: In Evicted, Chunky is shown to friends with a kid named Billy.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Is the first person to attack the Snowmads in the second season finale.
  • Lovable Coward: Chunky isn't at all brave, but he's a lovable Kong regardless.
  • Knight Templar Big Brother: Try to hurt or even kill Kiddy and Chunky won't hesitate to give you the worst beating of your life.
  • Gentle Giant: Sure, he is big, but he is unable to even harm a fly.
  • Manchild: Chunky is very childish and youth-minded. He still plays with toys, is easily prone to bursting into tears, and should his pantophobia even be mentioned?
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: No one refers to Chunky as Thomas.
  • The Paranoiac: It's quite difficult to find something he is not afraid of.
  • Prone to Tears: Not too hard to put Chunky into tears.
  • Top-Heavy Guy: Of course, his size doesn't make him any less cowardly.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: He's scared of everything, but he seems to have special fear of darkness. This stems back to his childhood, where he gotten stuck into a cage for a whole day until his parents found him.

    Timmy "Kiddy" Holcroft
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kiddy_holcroft.png
Debut: "New Faces"
Voiced By: Poppilo Power
Chunky's younger brother. Kiddy loves causing trouble, much to his older brother's dismay. While he seems to only be a bratty kid, he can become dangerous thanks to his rebellious nature. He becomes apart of the warehouse when his and Chunky's parents trust their older son to look after him.
  • Age Lift: His video game counterpart was a toddler. Here, he's 17.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: His pranks especially come at the expense of Chunky and he's often embarrassed by the little scamp's shenanigans.
  • Badass Adorable: He is a young Kong who can pull off multiple stunts and even blow up a whole ship.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: He's a mischievous scamp with quite the attitude.
  • Cousin Oliver: He is a recently added member of the Kongs, and he's just the youngest of the Kongs, clocking around just below the age of 18.
  • Expelled from Every Other School: Kiddy's troublemaker habits have gotten him expelled from every single school in Kongo Island, with the last one in particular being so bad, he ended up on juvenile hall for two years.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Kiddy might love to pull cruel pranks and cause trouble, but he would never do something that would get his friends and relatives hurt (at least not intentionally, but is the thought that counts). It says a lot when he finds things such as Candy's emotional and phycological abuse of DK or the mistreatment K. Rool receives from his family to be absolutely disgusting.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He is a descructive kid who loves causing trouble and defying authority. But aside from that, he is a friendly sport who gets along with the rest of the crew.
  • Kiddie Kid: Acts like a mischievous child despite being a teenager. As Chunky puts it, Kiddy was given his nickname because he "never grew up".
  • Killer Rabbit: He looks like a cute monkey, but make no mistake, he is fully capable of causing chaos with his pranks. This includes blowing up a ship. He wasn't sent to juvenile hall for nothing.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: His real name is Timmy, but everyone calls him Kiddy.
  • Tom the Dark Lord: Downplayed since Kiddy isn't really malevolent, but rather a huge troublemaker with a (very serious) criminal record, but you wouldn't expect someone who was sent to juvenile hall for a very serious crime to be given the nickname "Kiddy", much less his real name being Timmy.
  • The Prankster: Pulls numerous pranks on others, some more mean-spirited than others depending on the victim's relationship with him.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: He obviously didn't get sent to a juvenile hall for being a saint back when he was younger. He even poisons someone in one episode, and it's a dose that it's implied to be lethal, and in te next episode after that, he blows up a ship belonging to the Snowmads while some of them were still on it.

    Katryna Rool
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/katryna_rool.png
Debut: "New Faces"
Voiced By: Carmen
King K. Rool's niece. Katryna is somewhat sassy, rebellious, and can be seen as bratty, but she's really a nice girl underneath her flaws. She joined the group when her mother Kelly dropped her off at K. Rool while she was away.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Katryna showed signs of attraction towards Kitty, saying that if Diddy weren't dating her, she would've asked her out herself. In the same episode, she is seen making out with a male Kong.
  • Beauty, Brains, and Brawn: Forms this dynamic with Dixie and Tiny, with her being the Brawn. She's considerably less feminine than either of them and it's implied she's not afraid of getting into fights.
  • Bratty Teenage Daughter: Deconstructed. She is only like that at first because she hadn't known any better all her life and because whenever she tried making friends her father always prevented her from doing so.
  • Friendless Background: Her father put her on a private business school when she was a child and couldn't stand the snobby attitude of her classmates, which caused her to grow up friendless. And whenever she tried to make friends outside school, her father would prevent her from doing so.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She has quite the attitude, but she is a nice girl deep down who cares about her uncle K. Rool.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Her name is "Katryna", not "Katrina".
  • Token Good Teammate: Alongside her mother, Katryna is the only one of K. Rool's relatives that never demeans him and who actually appreciates him for who he is, even if she snarks at him on a daily basis. Katryna has also expressed many times how she feels pity for her uncle due to the treatment the rest of the family gives him.
  • Token Minority: Of DK's friends, she's the only one to be a Kremling instead of a Kong.
  • Tomboy: Much like Dixie, Katryna is known to be a tomboy. Though unlike Dixie, who is a Tomboy with a Girly Streak, Katryna is the least lady-like character in Donkey Kong Island.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Her and Dixie are the Tomboys to Tiny's Girly Girl.

K. Rool and subordinates

    King Konnor Rool
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/k_rool.png
Debut: "Pilot"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
An obese Kremling and the manager of K. Rool Incorporated. He debuted in Bowser's Koopalings as one of Bowser's close friends and the owner of the Bass Station before moving to Kongo Jungle, leaving his job to the management of A. Byzmal. While K. Rool seems like a Mean Boss who does nothing but complain all day, he actually has a sad life and a family that treats him very poorly.
  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Has a crown and a cape, nothing else.
  • Adaptational Wimp: In the original DKC series, K. Rool is a cold-blooded tyrant who is a legitimate threat to his foes. FreezeFlame22's series has him as a cynical boss who is easily pushed around by his family and co-workers.
  • Adipose Rex: A fat Kremling boss who wears a crown given to him as a present by Bowser.
  • Abusive Parents: His father constantly ridicules, lampoons, and criticizes him and is shown to favor his other son over K. Rool.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Consistently berated by his peers, poor K. Rool cannot catch a break.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: While he doesn't show it too often, K. Rool does have a soft spot for DK and his friends.
  • Ascended Extra: Was a recurrent character in Bowser's Koopalings, and he becomes part of the main cast in this series.
  • Asshole Victim: Zig-Zagged, K. Rool is often met with his downfall that is often prompted by his harsh demeanor, but with what is known about his origins and relationship with family members, he easily becomes one of the most sympathetic characters.
  • Bad Boss: He is very rude towards his employees and usually treats them unfairly, at least when the series begun. Nowadays, his pessimistic streak is moreover a result of bottled up cynicism from his tragic life.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: K. Rool reveals that he and Bowser are friends because Bowser was the first one to not mistreat or make fun of him.
  • Big "OMG!": He lets this out whenever something bad happens.
  • Born Unlucky: K. Rool always gets the short end of the stick more often than he'd like.
  • Breakout Character: He was one of the supporting characters of Bowser's Koopalings and later becomes one of the most prominent characters in Donkey Kong Island.
  • Brutal Honesty: Rarely sugar-coats anything.
  • Butt-Monkey: He's as much as a target for misfortune as Diddy.
  • Catchphrase: "OH MY GOD!!"
  • Characterization Marches On: In the first few episodes, K. Rool was essentially a Mean Boss that took credit for his employees' work and didn't care about anything that happened to them. Since then, K. Rool's behaviour was downplayed to that of a cynical and bitter individual who is the way he is due to the treatment he receives on a daily basis from his family and peers, and while he doesn't show it too often, he genuinely appreciates DK and his friends.
  • Comic Trio: Often The Leader to DK's The Fool and Diddy's Only Sane Man.
  • Cosmic Plaything: Just about the entire world is against K. Rool, though he is occasionally thrown a bone.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: K. Rool has always been mistreated by everyone around him, including his own family. The only ones who ever treated him with respect were King Bowser Koopa II and King Boo, so having to move out of the Koopa Kingdom away from his friends took a toll on him.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He's arguably the snarkiest character in Donkey Kong Island.
  • Dysfunctional Family: Possibly the most dysfunctional in the entire FreezeFlame22 continuity. His family comprises of himself, his authoritarian father, an overly prideful brother, an incompetent cousin who often takes K. Rool for granted, a sister who Really Gets Around, a teenage niece who is sometimes surly, and several more eccentric relatives, all who are either foolish, disgusting, or are just plain jerkasses.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: In his first few appearances in Bowser's Koopalings, his sprite was directly ripped from DK: King of Swing.
  • The Eeyore: K. Rool is primarily the cynical variant, but he has provided moments of sorrow or utter defeat.
  • Enraged by Idiocy: He has little tolerance for DK and his friends' stupidity.
  • Fat Bastard: His obesity seems to be a genetic factor, however. Same with the unpleasant demeanor, essentially.
  • Foil: To DK. While K. Rool has a bitter view on life, DK is generally optimistic and has a free spirit.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble: The Melancholic. He's most often cynical, has repressed emotions from his awful life, and and constantly gets fed up by his employees' antics.
  • Freudian Excuse: Let's face it. The reason why K. Rool is grouchy all the time is because he suffered a horrible childhood and a terrible family, having a brother who overshadows and mistreats him, a father who has a clear Parental Favoritism for said brother, and a cousin that often ropes him into whatever problems he gets himself into.
  • Gleeful and Grumpy Pairing: With DK whenever they are paired together. DK is very optimistic while K. Rool always has something to say about everyone.
  • Green and Mean: This crocodile is green in scales and has obvious disdain for everything.
  • Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow: Return of the Koopa King revealed that K. Rool had rather long hair when he was younger. In present day, not even a strain of hair is seen on top of K. Rool's head.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: K. Rool has a nasty temper. Quite a few things can set him off, without much effort at that.
  • Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: K. Rool is sometimes a main antagonist in a few episodes and can be a Mean Boss on occasion, but given what he has been through, it's hard not to pity him.
  • Jerkass: His initial characterization was that of a Mean Boss of sort, often neglecting the want and needs of his employees and favoring Klump and Krusha over them. This trait was downplayed in favor of a more sympathetic portrayal of K. Rool, where he's still ill-mannered but now has a Freudian Excuse to explain his wrathfulness.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: K. Rool can be as cruel as his name implies, but he does bring up good points on occasion.
    • He loathes his family, and judging by what can be seen, his feelings are completely understandable, as they always berate K. Rool to no end and take him for granted.
    • Plus, given his current employees include a lazy bum, a cowardly giant, a clueless teen, an egotistical douche, and an unhygienic glutton, its not too difficult to see why K. Rool tends to get frustrated with his employees.
    • He has every reason to distrust K.Lumsy since Lumsy gets everyone into a lot of trouble in the season two finale.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's often bitter and doesn't try to hide it, but he does care about the Kongs. In one episode, he even stood up for them when his relatives were insulting them behind their back.
  • Large and in Charge: At least in his own warehouse, where he's the biggest worker there (aside from Chunky).
  • Mad Eye: Has a bulging eye covered in veins.
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: The in-between to Klump's nice and Krusha's mean. While K. Rool is generally cynical, a few episodes reveal his soft side.
  • No-Respect Guy: Compared to his underlings, K. Rool isn't too incompetent. Doesn't mean he hasn't been abused by the universe and everybody who inhabit it.
  • Not So Above It All: He may act like a cynical no-nonsense guy, but the crazy antics of the Kongs seem to be growing on him. Hell, he sometimes find himself getting caught up in their shenanigans.
  • Only Sane Man: Probably the only sane person in Kongo Island.
  • Parental Substitute: Katryna says that she considers her uncle Konnor to be more of a father to her than her actual father ever was.
  • Perpetual Frowner: He doesn't smile that often.
  • Pointy-Haired Boss: K. Rool can be pretty goofy and hilariously incompetent at times, but he's still the Kremling in charge.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Gives one to Klump in Lite Food Truckers, though less so because of Klump himself but moreover because of his frustration with his brother Kennedy and his life as a whole.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Red to DK's Blue. K. Rool is easy to irate, tends to be impulsive, and often comes up with over-the-top schemes. In contrast, DK is a laidback dude who always search for the positives in everyone and everything
  • Running Gag: Once per Episode, there will be a shot of him at his office reacting to something in his computer.
  • Sad Clown: K. Rool is an obese crocodile who often comes up with wacky schemes and has quite the sarcasm. Behind all his comedy though is a sad man who suffered a lot of abuse or beratement from his family.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Has one with Kennedy. Because their father always show Parental Favoritism towards Kennedy, K. Rool feels resentment towards his brother. Kennedy always makes it his mission to rub his success in K. Rool's face, further motivating K. Rool to one-up him.
  • The Snark Knight: Rarely passes on the opportunity to make snide remarks.
  • Sour Outside, Sad Inside: K. Rool is usually negative, but he's suffered a lot of misfortune that it's almost justified. In some episodes, he doesn't even try to hide moments of defeat.
  • Stepford Snarker: Behind all that sarcasm is a troubled soul who is at the receiving end of near-perpetual misfortune.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: K. Rool appears as a Mean Boss in most of his appearances, but he does have a level of fondness for the Kongs. In "The Corporate Party", K. Rool even stands up for DK and expresses sincere gratitude for his loyalty and kind heart.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: DK and Krusha especially get on his nerves.
  • Temporarily a Villain: While Krusha and K. Rool's family are often the ones driving the conflict, K. Rool is sometimes the main antagonist of an episode.
  • The Un-Favourite: His father always favoured his brother over him.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Roughly any episode centered on his family and/or rivalry with his brother. He often has his loyal employees to thank.
  • Took a Level in Cynic: When K. Rool made his debut in Bowser's Koopalings, he wasn't nearly as cynical and had a personality similar to Bowser's. Once he made his first appearance in Donkey Kong Island, his attitude instantly changed from a somewhat laid-back friend of Bowser to a resentful manager. This is mainly because Bowser, one of the only friends K. Rool ever had, doesn't appear in Donkey Kong Island, leaving K. Rool in a friendless zone of cynicism.
  • You Are Fat: Often on the receiving end of this.

    Frank Krusha
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krusha.png
Debut: "Pilot"
Voiced By: Jordie the chill mean cookie (2019-2020), FreezeFlame22 (2020-Present)
A subordinate of K. Rool and the main antagonist of Donkey Kong Island. Krusha does little else but antagonizing the Kongs and trying to hit on Dixie.
  • Asshole Victim: Whenever we see him suffer, it's easy for not feel bad for him in the slightest.
  • Basement-Dweller: He is 30 years old, yet he still lives with his mother. He often tries to justify this by saying that she is the one who lives with him.
  • Entitled to Have You: Following Dixie breaking up with him, Krusha would desperately try to get her back, and would often hiss at Diddy for the mere act of talking to her.
  • Evil Is Petty: He once got Tiny and Dixie evicted from their house because Dixie broke up with him and refused to become his girlfriend again.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Heavily downplayed on the "friend" part, but either way, nobody likes Krusha. This is straighter with K. Rool and Klump, as in, they treat him more-or-less like a friend, but even they tend to get fed up with Klump.
  • Hate Sink: We are meant to hate every single gut within Krusha.
  • Jerkass: Often antagonizes the Kongs and tries to get them fired at every opportunity. He also harrased Dixie for a long time after she broke up with him.
  • Last-Name Basis: Everyone calls him "Krusha" instead of his first name "Frank".
  • Nice Mean And In Between: The Mean to Klump's Nice and K. Rool's In-between. Krusha often looks for ways to make the Kongs look bad or try to make Dixie fall for him again and doesn't care who he has to harm in other to achieve his goals. Whether he succeeds or not is another thing.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: He lives in his mother's basement, acts like a immature bully, and seems to be incredibly possessive of Dixie.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Krusha always feels like rubbing things in everyone's faces. Not that the Kongs and Katryna ever feel intimidated by it because they find this to be pathetic.

    Gary Klump
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/klump.png
Debut: "Pilot"
Voiced By: Swoldow EVGRB
Another subordinate of K. Rool. Klump is often seen being involved with Krusha's schemes, but he is more of a fat slob who would rather indulge in some unhealthy food.
  • All Men Are Perverts: He spends about $200 on an OnlyFans page.
  • Big Eater: A Running Gag is for him to be eating an unhealthy combination of food.
  • Fat Slob: He's an obese and unhygienic Kremling.
  • Gasshole: Implied to be this by K. Rool, and not too surprising given his diet.
  • Last-Name Basis: He has only ever been addressed to as "Klump"
  • Minion with an F in Evil: He's The Lancer to Krusha and seems to participate in his gang of thugs, but he never goes out of his way to bully anybody and seems to be a chill guy otherwise. If anything, he ends up embarrassing Krusha most of the time.
  • Nice Mean And In Between: He is way nicer than Krusha (mean), and K. Rool (In-between), as he usually just keeps to himself and never demeans anyone for anything other than Krusha and K. Rool.
  • The Pig-Pen: His hygiene is incredibly poor.

DK and Diddy's Family

    Donkey "Cranky" Kong Sr.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/crankykong.png
Debut: "Pilot"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
DK and Diddy's grandfather. As his name suggests, he is very cranky.
  • Grumpy Old Man: Man, he's very cranky.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Cranky is absolutely justified for being angry at Lanky all the time because he was living in his house for free and never lifted a finger. The last straw comes when Lanky almost burns down his house.
  • The Nicknamer: He gives most of his relatives degrading nicknames.
  • No Indoor Voice: Prepare your eardrums.
  • Screw Politeness, I'm a Senior!: He is always yelling and insulting others even when they have done nothing wrong.

    Donkey Kong Jr. (DJ)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/donkeykongjr_8.png
Debut: "Familial Visit"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22 (2020), InstaButNot (2020-2022), Poppilo Power (2024-Present)
DK and Diddy's father and Cranky's son. A bit silly and tends to embarrass his youngest son like his older son does, but ultimately means well.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Tends to embarrass his sons quite often, especially Diddy.
  • Bumbling Dad: He can be a little like this at times.
  • Good Parents: Despite his flaws, he cares about both of his sons equally.
  • Nice Guy: He's a cool dude.
  • Only Known by Initials: As with his son, he goes by the name "DJ".
  • Papa Wolf: Don't mess with either of his sons, or you'll get the beating of your life. Krusha learned this the hard way.
  • You Don't Look Like You: Donkey Kong Jr. is given an entirely new design in Donkey Kong Island. Somewhat justified, given that he's far older in this show.

    Lexie Kong
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lexie_kong.jpg
Debut: "Familial Visit"
Voiced By: Carmen
DK and Diddy's mother. Like her husband, she tends to embarrass her children but ultimately has the best intentions.

    Squawks
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/squawks_8.png
Debut: "Pilot"
Voiced By: Poppilo Power
DK and Diddy's pet parrot. Mostly a wisecracker.

    Rambi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rambitherhino.png
Debut: "Pilot"
DK and Diddy' pet rhinoceros.

K. Rool's Family

    King Harold Konrad Rool
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/harold_rool.jpg
Debut: "The Office Party"
Voiced By: FreezeFlame22
K. Rool's father. From day one, Harold consistently neglected him in favor of his other son, Kennedy.
  • Abusive Parents: Of the emotional and neglectful variant. Harold always favoured Kennedy over Konnor growing up and always let the former get away with his visceral treatment of the latter. Nothing of what K. Rool does is ever enough for Harold, and he often calls him a disappointment.
  • Fat Bastard: Of course, he shares his children's rotund physique, and is a neglectful father to his son.
  • Parental Favoritism: Out of his two sons, Harold favoured Kennedy more than Konnor throughout their childhood. It is unknown whether this applies to his daughter Kelly as well or not.
  • Straw Critic: Almost nothing K. Rool does pleases him. In The Office Party, he thinks the annual K. Rool Incorporated Office party looks unprofessional just because a window had been left open.

    Kennedy Rool
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kennedy_91.jpg
Debut: "The Office Party"
Voiced By: Swoldow EVGRB
K. Rool's older brother. He enjoys boasting about his success to his brother and is favored by their father, Harold.
  • Big Brother Bully: Kennedy treats his younger brother Konnor horribly, often rubbing his success in his face and how their father favours the former more than the latter.
  • Hate Sink: Everyone in K. Rool's family takes him for granted. Kennedy though? He actively looks for ways to humilliate his brother and mocks his misfortunes at any opportunity he gets. It's implied that he doesn't have a reason for bullying his brother, he just thinks it's fun to see Konnor suffer.
  • It Amused Me: It's implied Kennedy doesn't have a reason to treat K. Rool as badly as he does. He just thinks it's funny to see K. Rool suffer.
  • Jerkass: While all of K. Rool's family treated him horribly, Kennedy's treatment of K. Rool in particular, combined with how neglectful his father was to him growing up, resulted in him becoming bitter and cranky.
  • Kick the Dog: Kennedy is always looking for ways to make his brother look bad for no real reason.
  • Lonely at the Top: K. Rool implies that Kennedy doesn't have many social skills as a result of only focusing on his studies and his business. Apparently one of Kennedy's only few friends is his butler.

    Kelly Rool
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kelly_ross.jpg
Debut: "The Office Party"
Voiced By: Carmen
K. Rool's sister and Katryna's mother. She often cheats on her husband, Kameron.
  • Arranged Marriage: Her marriage with Kameron Ross is implied to be this, as Kelly mentions that ever since the fact that she was having an affair with her co-manager was discovered, her father Harold's partenrship with the Ross family was ruined.
  • Food as Bribe: She convinces K. Rool to look after Katryna by promising to buy him a bag of chocolate donuts. K. Rool accepts.
  • Good Parents: Kelly seems to genuinely care for Katryna, as she went out of her way to make sure that Katryna wouldn't end up with her strict and controlling father while she was away.
  • Pet the Dog: As mentioned by K. Rool, Kelly was one of the few people that was nice to him growing up.
  • Really Gets Around: She has cheated on her husband at least fifty times!
  • Unwanted Spouse: Due to the implications of her and K. Ross' marriage being an Arranged Marriage, this is the most likely explanation as to why she constantly cheats on him; because she doesn't love him.

    Kameron Ross
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kameron_ross.jpg
Debut: "The Office Party"
Voiced By: Poppilo Power
Katryna's father. Strict and quite temperamental. He divorced Kelly after he found out that she cheated on him with her co-manager.
  • Arranged Marriage: Implied to be the case of his marriage with Kelly Rool. It apparently was made to establish a partnership between the Rool and Ross families.
  • Control Freak: Implied to be the way he raised Katryna. He forced her to go to a business school despite her not having any passion for it, he wouldn't allow her to make friends with people she was actually comfortable with, and he would made her go to bed really early even as an adult.
  • Cuckold: His wife constantly cheats on him.
  • Punny Name: K. Ross.

    Karter Ringe
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/karter_ringe.jpg
Debut: "The Office Party"
Voiced By: InstaButNot (2020-2022)
K. Rool's cousin, Utterly lazy and incompetent.

    Konrad Lumsy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/k_lumzy.jpg
Debut: "Going Overboard"
Voiced By: AzUrArInG (2019, 2023-Present) InstaButNot (2020)
K. Rool's cousin. While K. Lumsy seems to be a friendly guy at first, he is actually selfish and wouldn't hesitate to throw anyone (mainly K. Rool) under the bus just to save his own skin. He's currently eight thousand dollars in debt.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Does this multiple times in the season 2 finale, "Snowmadness"; He scams the Snowmads and steals one of their ships under K. Rool's name, resulting in the gang taking him hostage and torturing him until the next day, and robs H. K. Rool's house under the claim that the house was his to pay off the debt he owes them. As if that wasn't enough, he makes off with the gold and leaves the gang out to dry when the trade goes down.
  • It's All About Me: While a pretty friendly guy at first and not evil by any means necessary, it becomes increasingly obvious over the course of the series that K. Lumsy is a selfish man child who never learns from his mistakes and has left K. Rool to pay the price for his actions numerous times. Furthermore, when the gang tries figuring out how to pay the Snowmads to rescue K. Rool, K. Lumsy's main concern is how said methods would affect him in the grand scheme of things.
  • Karma Houdini: He continuously ropes K. Rool and his employees into his affairs to avoid being caught by the various amount of people he's screwed over and always gets off scott-free by the end of the episode.
  • Nice Guy: Of K. Rool's family, he seems to be the friendliest. At least at first anyway.
  • Punny Name: K. Lumsy.

Kongo Island Residents

    Candy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_baddest_female.png
Debut: "DK's New Girlfriend"
Voiced By: AverageToaster19
DK's ex-girlfriend. While she seems loving, caring, and sweet, Candy is actually a manipulative backstabber who took advantage of DK's kindness. She is based on a girl that one of FreezeFlame22's friends also dealt with.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: Not only is she a total bitch, but she treats her pet blittys horribly, feeding them food that is bad for them and outright throwing one through the room. Understandibly, the poor things seem to be scared of her.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She psychologically abused DK while they were dating, making him fall apart from his friends and almost making him lose his job, all while pretending to be nice and sweet.
  • Catchphrase: "I am the baddest female, after all."
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Exaggerated. She dumped DK back in high school because she had a dream in which he cheated on her, or so she claims...
  • Giver of Lame Names: Everyone thinks that her calling her blittys "DK Jr." and "Diddy Jr." ("Krusha Jr." and "Klump Jr." later on) is pathetic, but people also get fed up with her calling herself "the baddest female".
  • Hate Sink: She is pretty much the result of taking the worst attributes of Mary-Lynn and Camilla and combining them together.
  • Ironic Name: Candies are usually sweet. Candy herself though? She is anything but.
  • Jerkass: Psychologically abuses DK, cheats on him with Krusha of all people, and treats her pets horribly.
  • Karma Houdini: Has yet to be punished for her horrible treatment of DK.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Candy constantly maniplates DK into getting her what she wants so she can gradually ruin his life.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Always claims to be "the baddest female" and thinks that she can mistreat others around her.
  • Take That!: Candy's personality was based off a girl one of FreezeFlame22's friends had a bad experience with.

    Kitty
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kitty_5.jpg
Debut: "The Night Shift"
Voiced By: Carmen
Diddy Kong's girlfriend.
  • Foil:
    • Can be considered one to Candy. Both are attractive girls who are/were in a relationship with a member of the Kong family, but their personalities couldn't be more different; Candy has is unbearable and psycologically abused DK when they were together while Kitty is a friendly girl whose affection for Diddy is genuine.
    • She could also be considered one to Krusha. Just like Krusha was in the way of Diddy to gain Dixie's affection, Kitty is in Dixie's way to get Diddy's affection. The difference here is that Krusha's relationship with Dixie was a complete disaster and it was mostly one-sided on Krusha's part, while Kitty and Diddy have a healthy relationship and are both into each other, which Dixie herself acknowledges.
  • Huge Girl, Tiny Guy: She's significantlly taller than Diddy.
  • Nice Girl: She makes a good first impression on the crew, who are glad that she's nothing like Candy.

    Steve "Funky" McKong

Voiced By: Swoldow EVGRB
