    Original post
As per this Trope Talk Thread, there have been questions raised about the Shana Clone trope, since the light novel it comes from is relatively obscure in the west, as well as inviting shoehorned examples.

Heres is the Wick Check me and Selkies have done and their results

  • 17/55 examples are valid
  • 19/55 examples are shoehorns
  • 8/55 examples are played with or downplayed (but are otherwise valid)
  • 12/55 examples are ZCE or are Uncertain

Due to having a surprising amount of correct usage (even if some of them are played with/downplayed), here are some possible solutions:

  1. Officially rename the trope as a ā€œTiny Tyrannical Tsundereā€ as it has been suggested on the Fountain of Expies trope talk, in order to broaden its use (mutually exclusive with solution 2) and get rid of the bullet-points criteria.
  2. Merge it with Tiny Tyrannical Girl (mutually exclusive with 3).
  3. Do a cleanup for misuse (mutually exclusive with 2)

Wick check:

As bought up in this Trope Talk thread regarding Fountain of Expies, Shana Clone might have potential problems so Iā€™m making this wick check to see if it does.

NOTE: Since this is my first time doing an Expy based wick check any help in determining if an entry is valid or shoehorned is much appreciated.

55/55

  • Valid (17/55)
  • Shoehorned (19/55)
  • Played with (8/55)
  • ZCE / Uncertain (12/55)

     Valid (17/55)
  1. Dragonar Academy (Eco) /Shana Clone: Eco is a dragon that takes the form of a small, flat-chested girl, is an abrasive, demanding and violent Tsundere, has long pink hair, wears a school uniform with Grade A Zettai Ryouiki, refers to Ash as her "dog" despite him being her master, and loves crepes as much as Shana loves melon bread. Seems valid
  2. Azur Lane Royal Navy Destroyers (Amazon (D39))/ Shana Clone: She's superficially a young, flat-chested teenager, but she's the second-oldest Royal Navy ship in the game and hates being treated as young. She wears her blonde hair in nearly waist-length Girlish Pigtails, wears an old-timey, musketeer-esque military outfit with a skirt, and always carries either her sword or a finger pointer stick when she shows up in tutorials. She's an extreme Tsundere denying affection for the Commander, even up to her lines for marriage, but she's not particularly violent or demeaning besides calling him a pervert. If she gets defeated in battle, she unleashes a Rapid-Fire "Shut Up!". For even further hilarity, she's even more of a Shana Clone than HMS Vampire, who's voiced by none other than Shana's voice actress. seems valid
  3. MM! (Mio Isurugi) /Shana Clone: Mio is a short and flat-chested high school girl with long blonde hair and Grade-A Zettai Ryouiki. She's a dominant Tsundere with a violent temper and calls the main character a pig, but slowly mellows out around him. One episode has her doing cosplay of Louise just to drive the point home. seems valid
  4. OMORI ā€“ Main Group (Aubrey (Faraway Town) /Shana Clone: A downplayed case, in noticeable contrast to her Cheerful Child younger self. She is a teenage girl with the typical childlike body-type, waist-length pink hair, and a mini-skirt. She is also the female lead by virtue of being the only girl in the main party of four. Personality-wise, she is a harsh Tsundere and gang leader who antagonizes and assaults people, and while the worst of her bullying is reserved for Basil, she does attack her Implied Love Interest Sunny thrice, bullying him as well, only to soften up to him as the story unfolds. She fits regardless of the authors' intentions
  5. Maken Ki Protagonists (Kodama Himegami) /Shana Clone: She's a petite, flat-chested second-year high school student, is a defrosting Type A Tsundere, is one of the protagonist's love interestsnote , has very long blonde hair styled into Girlish Pigtails, wears Grade S Zettai Ryouiki and is normally seen wearing Elegant Gothic Lolita dresses. 'seems valid
  6. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation (Eris) /Shana Clone: Eris starts off as a 9-year-old, redheaded Tsundere who comes from a noble family. Although she's initially bratty and hostile, she softens as she falls in love with Rudeus. It only applies early in the story since Eris eventually grows out of the trope both physically and emotionally once she becomes an adult. seems valid
  7. Date A Live - Ratatoskr (Kotori Itsuka) /Shana Clone: Small, Tsundere (type A or type B depending on the color of her ribbons), long hair, Grade S Zettai Ryouiki, a fondness of lollipops and a literal Fiery Redhead to boot. She even has an Idiot Hair just like the original. seems valid
  8. Gosick (Victorique de Blois) /Shana Clone: She's an Older Than She Looks petite teenage Tsundere with really long blond hair who wears Elegant Gothic Lolita style dresses and is fond of sweets. She also comes from a noble family and refers to her Love Interest as her servant. However, she is also based off Shinku from Rozen Maiden. She fits — she's on the collage pic on the Shana Clone page
  9. Haruka Nogizaka's Secret (Touka Tennouji) /Shana Clone: Mean and bossy Tsundere, childlike body, ties her white hair onto Girlish Pigtails, wears Grade-S Zettai Ryouiki, is a rich heiress, and initially treats the protagonist as her personal slave before opening up to him. For bonus points, she's voiced by Rie Kugimiya. seems valid
  10. Akame ga Kill! - Night Raid (Mine) /Shana Clone: She's a petite teenage girl with very long pink hair tied into Girlish Pigtails, wears an Elegant Gothic Lolita style dress and is a short-tempered, violent Tsundere who treats the main character like her inferior until his good personality wins her over and she falls in love with him, which leads to her becoming nicer to him. seems valid
  11. Bladedance of Elementalers (Claire Rougue) /Shana Clone: Fills most of the requirements of this role; Older Than She Looks childlike teenage girl, A-Cup Angst, red long hair tied into Girlish Pigtails, Grade S Zettai Ryouiki, literal Fiery Redhead, overly violent Tsundere, calls the main character her slave contracted spirit and is part of a Battle Harem. seems valid
  12. UQ Holder! Touta Konoe's Ministra Magi (Kirie Sakurame, UQ Holder No. 9) /Shana Clone: Kirie is an Older Than She Looks childlike rich girl with long blonde hair tied into Girlish Pigtails, wears Grade S Zettai Ryouiki on occasion and her body-type gives her excessive A-Cup Angst. She's a short-tempered, bossy Tsundere who belittles and mistreats her "incompetent" love interest regularly. She's also in competition with several other girls for Touta's heart. seems valid
  13. Undefeated Bahamut Chronicle Main Characters (Lisesharte Atismata) /Shana Clone: A very toned-down example. Lisha is a petite teenage Tsundere princess with long blonde hair and Grade A Zettai Ryouiki. However, her initial animosity towards Lux, aside from justified, completely disappears once she sees what a good person he is. Afterwards, her Tsundere tendencies rarely pop up. Valid
  14. Demonbane (Al Azif) /Shana Clone: Al is a Moe Anthropomorphism of the Necronomicon, taking the appearance of a short, flat-chested girl with long pink hair and clad in an Elegant Gothic Lolita-style dress. She's a high-and-mighty Tsundere and bosses Kurou around even though he's supposed to be her master, although her attitude softens as she falls in love with Kurou. seems valid
  15. Heaven's Lost Property (Nymph) /Shana Clone: Nymph is an Angeloid who always looks like a flat-chested, prepubescent girl with long hair styled in Girlish Pigtails and wears Zettai Ryouiki. Personality-wise, she's a Tsundere prone to comedic violence towards her love interest and is fond of sweets. seems valid
  16. Unchained Blades (Tiana) /Shana Clone: Tiana is a redhead who is the female lead, with fire magic and the Tsundere tendencies. Seems valid, this is how she looks
  17. Isuca: She has just about every trait for this trope. A teen with a childish body, prone to wear school uniforms with Grade A Zettai Ryouiki, waist-length hair, a hot-tempered Tsundere, and is an heiress to a wealthy family who treats the hero like an inferior (though like the original Shana, she does start to grow out of this). Valid

     Shoehorned (19/55)
  1. Trails Series Crossbell Special Support Section (KeA) /Shana Clone: Despite having the voice and the looks of one, complete with the twin tail hair in Cold Steel IV, she's an aversion to the trope as she's not a Tsundere. Kea is anything but this trope and just seems like a shoehorned ā€œwow, this lady didnā€™t voice a tsundere, how novel!ā€ example
  2. Steins;Gate 0 (Hiyajo Maho)/ Shana Clone: A downplayed one. Maho is a tiny, flat-chested, long-haired 21-year-old woman with a short temper and Tsundere tendencies. However, she lacks the Fiery Redhead aspect, as her hair is green, and she's quite nice and friendly once Okabe befriends her. Also, her romantic interest in Okabe doesn't go beyond some Ship Tease. Seems shoehorned — correct, she isn't the main female lead and doesn't wear dresses or Zettai Ryouiki, etc.
  3. One-Punch Man: S-Class Heroes (Tatsumaki)/ Shana Clone: Even though she has much shorter hair than the standard, she fits the bill perfectly. Tatsumaki is an unbelievably arrogant, ill-tempered and bossy Older Than She Looks Tiny Tyrannical Girl who sees and treats everyone around her as trash (initially). Shoehorned, bc 1. she's not a teenager + 2. not the female lead + 3. isn't listed as a Tsundere
  4. Shining Pretty Cure (Miwa Shinju)/ Shana Clone: She looks and sounds like one but is a lot more mellow in temperament and prefers snarking at others to using violence. This doesn't stop her from getting in at least one "Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!" during the series. shoehorned
  5. Infinity Train: Seeker of Crocus: Chloe Cerise /Shana Clone: Combines this with Stock Light-Novel Calamity Princess and Stock Shoujo Heroine below. She has a Tsundere streak, initially starts with long red hair before cutting it short to Screw Destiny, has a thing for dresses (with her most current outfit definitely fitting Elegant Gothic Lolita), has a bit of a temper and initially had a problem explaining most of her problems. The one thing that she does not have is the Love Interest as she makes it clear to Augustine that she does not crush on him (and also justified as he's 30 and she's a third of his age). Other traits includes stating Augustine by his first name and is known to have a thing for sweets ā€” chocolate in particular ā€” she is considered "privileged" for having a PokĆ©mon Professor for a father and her Cloak of Marchosias and Wepwawet gives her insane amounts of firepower. Shoehorned —she's either a Shana Clone or a Stock Light-Novel Calamity Princess or a Stock Shoujo Heroine, she can't be all three at once
  6. Chrome Shelled Regios - The 17th Platoon (Felli Loss) /Shana Clone: Petite, flat-chested teenage girl, has long hair, occasionally wears Grade A Zettai Ryouiki, and is an aloof Tsundere who frequently kicks her love interest. She's also a rare case mixed with Rei Ayanami Expy. Seems shoehorned due to it being mixed with an opposite trope
  7. Trinity Seven (Mira Yamana) /Shana Clone: A short Tsundere with blond (partial) long hair who is abusive towards her love interest. doesn't show other traits so she's shoehorned
  8. Azur Lane - Eagle Union Destroyers (DD) (Hammann (DD-412)) /Tsundere: Almost to the point of being a Shana Clone. In fact, it seems like her tsundereness is her way of showing affection, given that she can't even care to be angry with the Commander if her affection is at "Disappointed". In her ministory, it seems that she is just absolutely unable to express her honest feelings without outside intervention. 'Shoehorned — she doesn't show the other traits
  9. Devil Survivor 2 Party Members (Airi Ban) /Shana Clone: Similar to the original concept in terms of personality, though she merely appears flat-chested compared to other female partymembers. shoehorned since its just a part of Shana than a whole thing
  10. Mieruko-chan (Yuria Nigurendou) /Shana Clone: Yuria has some traits of the archetype; short, blonde twintails, and displays Tsundere tendencies towards the protagonist. Shoehorned because only a few similarities were noticed (missing 2 traits)
  11. Fly Me to the Moon (Chitose Kaginoji) /Shana Clone: With all the trappings: petite, childish, temperamental and not so honest in expressing her feelings. Shoehorned — missing 2 traits
  12. Fate/Grand Order - Assassins A to F (Cleopatra VII Philopator) /Tsundere: Her room dialogue has her denying that the protagonist made her heart flutter and such. During the second half of the third Halloween event, Cleopatra also protests that she is not sulking at not getting to join the others as guest party members before her boss fight. She's also really good-natured in general but ineffectually tries to hide it behind an arrogant facade. Further fueling this is how she's voiced by Rie Kugimiya, the Queen of Tsundere herself, despite not being short like most of the other kind of characters she voiced (and Oda Nobunaga). Since it's a pothole to this, and Cleo isnt one in appereance, I'll put this under the shoehorned category
  13. Goblin Slayer: Other Significant Players (Female Mage) /Shana Clone: Female Mage is pushy, nosy, always involving the party in drama, and attempts to enforce a big-sister dynamic between herself and Samurai Captain, which he is resistant against. She at one point calls him and Half-Elf Scout her servants and orders them to shut up. shoehorned since she doesn't share other Shana-esque traits
  14. Suterareta Yuusha No Eiyuutan (Hakazane Shuri) /Shana Clone: While she lacks the physical traits that define the character archetype, her personality was initially very dismissive of Daichi, considering him an inferior, and tried to reject him using violence. Of course, the fact that she was Daichi's slave at the time prevented her from carrying that violence out. Shoehorned since she doesn't fit appareance wise
  15. Kill Me Baby (Unused Character) /Shana Clone: Red haired, a violent personality (even if she's not a Tsundere) and is voiced by Rie Kugimiya. shoehorned
  16. The IDOLM@STER: Allstars (Iori Minase) /Shana Clone: Downplayed. She isn't a lead character and isn't physically violent, but covers other traits well (childlike stature, dresses as regular attire, heavy tsun attitude, a habit of addressing others with "anta", slight breast envy to the more endowed ones, and wealth). 'shoehorned
  17. Henneko: The Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat (Azusa Azuki) /Shana Clone: Petite physique (both vertically and horizontally), long hair with a Tsundere attitude. Shoehorned — missing 2 traits (female lead + main Love Interest)
  18. Re:Zero - Emilia Camp (Beatrice): Beatrice is a little blonde girl with her hair styled into a long pair of pigtails. Despite her looks, she's Really 700 Years Old and a powerful mage. She's also an irritable, grumpy Tsundere who especially treats the main character harshly, but warms up to him over time. Shoehorned — missing 2 traits (being the female lead + a Love Interest).
  19. Cube X Cursed X Curious: Fear is one, being a tiny Tsundere with long hair, an A-Cup Angst who is a Love Interest to Haruaki (although her personality points are only on the surface: she's still quite full of herself, but beneath that she's actually just a naive and endearing girl). Interestingly, and possible in an unique case, she also has traits of a Rei Ayanami Expy, being an Artificial Human with blue/silver hair and red eyes who explores the world and her own humanity. Shoehorned — she can't be Rei Ayanami Expy and a Shana Clone at the same time

     Played with (8/55)
  1. XBlaze Code: Embryo (Mei Amanohokosaka) /Shana Clone: Letā€™s see, flat-chested? Check. Long hair? Check. Elegant Gothic Lolita? Check. Type A Tsundere? Check. A downplayed example since she's not the main female lead nor a Love Interest based on her entry folder
  2. My Wife is the Student Council President (Karen Fujisaki) /Shana Clone: Short in stature, long hair, and violently Tsundere toward Hayato, whom she addresses as an insect or trash. A downplayed example since the isn't the female lead
  3. PandoraHearts - Main Characters (Alice) /Shana Clone: Not a blatant example, but the traits are all there. She's a short Tsundere with long hair who refers to Oz as her manservant and property. However, having to survive on her own within the Abyss as well as her lack of memories and knowledge about the outside world seem to have contributed to her brash personality, and as she becomes more confident in herself and others, her Tsundere tendencies start to relax. She is also rarely physically violent toward Oz and is more often than not quite affectionate to him, which he perceives as her being honest with her emotions. A downplayed example since she's isn't a Love Interest
  4. Didn't I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life? (Reina) /Shana Clone: Reina is a short, Older Than She Looks Tsundere with long red hair, Zettai Ryouiki, and a complex about her small chest. A downplayed case — 1 trait isn't mentioned anywhere in her folder (the Love Interest criteria)
  5. Inu Ɨ Boku SS (Ririchiyo Shirakiin) /Shana Clone: A different take on the archetype. She's a rich, childlike fifteen-year-old Tsundere with black hair and Grade A Zettai Ryouiki. Unusually, she dislikes her common approach to people and is trying her best to improve her social interactions. Also, her love interest, who specifically asks her to call him a dog and treat him like one, is such an Extreme Doormat she actually finds it very difficult to do so. A played with example
  6. Hayate the Combat Butler (Nagi): Has the distinction of being one of Big 4 Trope Codifiers of the trope. She's a small, flat-chested Tsundere rich heiress with blonde hair tied into long Girlish Pigtails and often wearing Grade S Zettai Ryouiki. She's voiced by Rie Kugimiya, on top of that. She definitely treats her love interest a lot better than most examples, though. Downplayed, but valid
  7. Life With An Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated Into A Total Fantasy Knockout (Hinata): When transported to the fantasy world, Tachibana is transformed into a young-looking, petite and flat-chested girl with long blonde hair. Tachibana also acts like a short-tempered Tsundere around Jinguuji due to not being able to handle feeling attracted to him. The twist is that Tachibana was a 32-year-old man before the transformation and a goddess just turned him into the very description of his ideal woman. Downplayed, but valid

     ZCE / Uncertain (12/55)
  1. Harem Prince /Shana Clone: Takuhiko refers to this trope as a "Tsundere Loli". ZCE
  2. The Belgariad Garion And His Companions (Ce'Nedra) /Tsundere: Ce'Nedra makes most anime Tsunderes look amateurish. A good capsule description of her is "Asuka, only having traded in all of her self-esteem issues for even more self-centeredness." In fact, setting aside the Zettai Ryouiki qualification, she's possibly the ultimate Shana Clone, surpassing all animated and Japanese versions with ease. Some parts of the books are told from her point of view. It's truly fascinating to read her inner monologue, she can literally go from adoring Garion to hating him like the plague in the subsequent sentence, and vice versa. It dies down after they get married and the two of them mellow somewhat. what
  3. GJ Bu/ Tiny Tyrannical Girl: Mao, full stop, bordering on Shana Clone. ZCE
  4. Now Im A Demon Lord Happily Ever After With Monster Girls In My Dungeon (Leficious/Lefy) /Shana Clone: Aside from lacking A-Cup Angst, she's this. And it's justified in that she's a Supreme Dragon and could easily depopulate the entire world if she wanted to. ZCE
  5. Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (Alisa Bannings)/Shana Clone: Despite the anime being aired one year before Shakugan No Shana and the original Alisa from Triangle Heart 3 appeared two years before Shana herself, Alisa has many traits and the seiyuu to fit this role. Ultimately, she becomes a Shana Clone in INNOCENT, where she has a fire-elemental Device in the form of a sword called Flame Eyes. ZCE since it doesnt explain what the exact traits are
  6. Ensemble Stars fine (Tori Himemiya) /Shana Clone: A Rare Male Example of this trope. ZCE
  7. String Theory (NeoStarReset) (Prairie Marble) /Shana Clone: Downplayed, but several traits do apply really well like the Type A Tsundere and her short stature. ZCE
  8. Though Young People Recoil From Entering The Black Magic Industry (Nightmare Mary) /Shana Clone: Downplayed but present. Initially very haughty, treating Franz like an inferior, but warms up to him when he dotes on her and gives her genuine affection. ZCE as written — but yes a downplayed example
  9. The Hero Laughs While Walking The Path Of Vengeance A Second Time (Leticia, the Demon Lord) /Shana Clone: To the hilt. When she met Kaito, she considered him an inferior, bossed him around, frequently hurled fireballs in his direction, but then quickly grew very, very fond of him, especially once he started feeding her delicious food. Not enough context to tell but she's missing one of the criteria (not being the female lead)
  10. Mugen Souls (Chou-Chou: Bipolar) /Shana Clone: She's pretty short, sports Twintails, wears Zettai Ryouiki, and is a Tsundere. Might be a downplayed case — she's missing 2 traits (female lead + main Love Interest)
  11. Rosario + Vampire: Newspaper Club (Kokoa Shuzen) /Shana Clone: A short, flat-chested Tsundere with red hair tied into Girlish Pigtails and wearing Grade S Zettai Ryouiki. Yep, she fits the bill. Might be a downplayed example — missing 1 trait (female lead/Love Interest)
  12. Negima: Ala Alba (Chisame Hasegawa) /Shana Clone: When on aging pills, Chisame turns into a ten-year-old little girl with Girlish Pigtails and occasional Zettai Ryouiki. She keeps her normal self's Fiery Redhead Tsundere personality in her younger body. Might be a Played With example — missing one criteria (being the female lead)

Possible solutions:
  • Officially rename the trope as a ā€œTiny Tyrannical Tsundereā€ as it has been suggested on the Fountain of Expies trope talk, in order to broaden its use (mutually exclusive with solution 2) and get rid of the bullet-points criteria.
  • Or merge it with Tiny Tyrannical Girl (mutually exclusive with 3).
  • Do a cleanup for misuse (mutually exclusive with 2).

ZCE
  4. Now I'm a Demon Lord! Happily Ever After with Monster Girls in My Dungeon (Leficious/Lefy) /Shana Clone: Aside from lacking A-Cup Angst, she's this.

Hmm. While the source may be obscure in the west, is it a valid distinct trope in its particular genre in Japan? I'd want to rename either way, but I'd want more info on the validity as a trope before jumping to say merge.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

[up] Tiny Tyrannical Girl does seem to be the most common trait, but maybe we should consider disambiguating the page rather than merging it.

For example, shouldn't all the correct examples be moved to Expy if they're explicitly based on Shana?

[up][up][up][up] Yes, it is. It used to be super popular in 2006 until 2011 or so, but then it kinda died a little and just got replaced with Stock Light-Novel Calamity Princess, Nice Childhood Friend, The Stoic/Emotionless Girl, Shrinking Violet, and just Tsundere in general with the harsh tsundere and dominatrix qualities of most Shana clones are now toned down to make them more feminine/cutesy and appeal to male audiences more. So, yes many female characters are still written as tsundere love interests who Cannot Spit It Out but the rest of the Shana Clone traits are beginning to lose their popularity when put together.

[up][up][up] +17 examples (with the 17 being the correct one so they'd definitely fit their supertrope TTG).

merge and disambiguate is my choice, as the original shana clone tropeworthiness asker. while my original concern was that it might be too broad, i think a "true" shana clone has a very particular set of characteristics that make it too specific to trope. the valid examples can go to just plain expy, while the shoehorned ones would be fine as tiny tyrannical girl or whatever other valid tropes they fall under.

[up][up][up][up] Based on what selkies said, I see potential value in this as a trope, as it was a trend at some point and seems to be distinct enough to fit its own archetype rather than just being an expy trope. However, if there's not enough examples, they could be moved to Expy and the trope can be disambiguated without a direct replacement.

[up]I agree with moving valid examples to Expy if there aren't enough of them for the trope to have a healthy wick count after misuse is removed.

It seems like this might be a legit trope with legit examples, but one that's very difficult for a westerner who wasn't completely immersed in the relevant genre of anime during its heyday to accurately identify, and where a rename to something not anime-specific is likely to attract examples that don't capture all the nuances of the trope. So, same as a lot of anime "tropes" that come off as a way for weebs to gatekeep and end up getting cut and/or merged.

I question the evaluation of Shakugan no Shana as obscure since it was basically the Genre Popularizer for LNs in the Western world.

That said, check out Stock Light-Novel Calamity Princess, I think that may be a better target for a merge than just Tiny Tyrannical Girl.

SLNCP is not exactly like Shana Clone except in that they're both love interests which is, like I said, something that defines 90% of female characters in Japanese media. The Shana Clone isn't known for her pluckiness or optimism and they're neither a princess nor wield destructive abilities.

Many of Shana clones don't meet the criteria of SLNCP, as Shana herself isn't a royal, nor is plucky, and doesn't have a Color Motif either. Taiga is from a slice of life school LN so she's obv not a princess, she isn't plucky, nor has super powers. And so on.

[up]Yeah, I posted based on the OP and a glance at the end of the thread before reading the whole thing, and didn't see you'd already mentioned it.

But since you did defend it as a legit, if relatively short-lived, expy trend, I'm looking over the wick check, and I'm seeing a few problems. For starters, I question the basis of calling something a shoehorn just because other tropes overlap in the implementation (5, 6, 19). Please explain to me the rationale that somebody can't be both a Shana Clone and a Rei Ayanami Expy, or a Shana Clone and a SLNCP.

ETA: Finished looking over the wick check. I say keep and clean, this seems pretty darn salvageable.

Well, Shana is one of the classic Tsundere characters while Rei is one of the classic Kuudure characters, and those two archetypes are very opposed to each other (one being overtly harsh at first and the other merely cold at first).

[up][up]

"Please explain to me the rationale that somebody can't be both a Shana Clone and a Rei Ayanami Expy."

Also, "expy" implies that the character is completely derivative of, if not outright copying, the character in question, i.e. the character has been "exported." You can't really copy an entire character from two different characters, unless it's either a Composite Character (explicitly combining two pre-existing characters from the source material for an adaptation) or those characters are based on the same archetype or trope. And at that point, it raises the question of why we aren't just troping that shared archetype/trope vs saying the character is a copy of two different characters from different works.
