Protagonists

    In General

Art by Exagono16.
  • Battle Couple: Not a couple (yet), but they fight well side-by-side.
  • Birds of a Feather: Both Izuku and Yamato are highly emotional individuals who greatly admire and emulate someone (All Might and Kozuki Oden, respectively). They also will help anyone who is in need of saving.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Despite their attempts to avoid getting captured by Kaido, Izuku and Yamato can't help but lend a hand to those in need of saving.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Neither of them have a problem using distractions and surprise attacks.
  • Multiple Identity IDs: As they travel through the New World and the North Blue, Izuku and Yamato use a variety of different aliases to disguise themselves from prying eyes (usually drawn from Izuku's Vestiges).
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Yamato is the energetic and excitable red oni to Izuku's rational and calm blue oni.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Yamato is an oni who towers over Izuku, who is a human.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Whitebeard's assessment of them as of chapter 51; both have immense potential power and some combat skills, and with a little planning they can hold their own and even triumph against foes like the Finalem Pirates and the Flying Six. However, they lack much of the same experience as other pirates in the New World do, and as such make rookie mistakes such as hesitating in a moment of crisis or more commonly trying to bite off way more than they can chew. And while they are powerful, they are far from reaching their true potential: Izuku is only at 55% power and hasn't fully accessed all his Vestiges' Quirks, while Yamato's Devil Fruit powers are stunted and hard for her to control beyond being triggered by her emotions.

    Izuku Midoriya
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/izuku_midoriya_s4.png
A cunning and righteous-minded young hero from another world, Izuku is sent to the world of One Piece after a costly victory against an incredibly powerful and vindictive enemy. Crash-landing on Onigashima, he is nursed back to health in secret by Yamato. Appalled by her situation, he swears to help her escape from her tyrannical father's grasp.
  • Animal Motif: Izuku is heavily associated with snakes in Wano. Tama, who doesn't know what he looks like, imagines him as a snake and his sketched wanted poster has fangs.
  • Archenemy: To Kaido of all people. After Izuku helps Yamato escape Onigashima, an enraged Kaido becomes practically obsessed with killing him personally. Izuku more then returns the sentiment, planning to grow strong enough to take down the Emperor of the Sea and liberate Wano.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He kicks Spytand Malice's ass when the latter tries to take Yamato back to Kaido.
  • Black-and-White Morality: Averted later on. It was unfortunately becoming increasingly apparent that Izuku was beginning to see the world of One Piece through this narrow minded lenses. But it’s understandable since in his old world, society was structured between heroes who enforce the law and those who go against it being considered villains. So of course he’d see all, if not most who sail with a jolly roger, as nothing more than seafaring villains. Plus it doesn’t help that besides being somewhat jaded from his past experiences, some of the only pirates he and the Vestiges had first met, were the barbarous Beast Pirates ruling Wano and the cruel Finalem Pirates who tried taking over Doyle. However, after entering Sphinx and seeing how peaceful and prosperous Whitebeard makes his territory; Izuku realizes that there are good pirates in this world and gets over his hangup over piracy. Not only that, but after meeting Whitebeard himself and being offered for him and Yamato to join his crew, has the epiphany that there is nothing wrong with being pirates and heroes at the same time after seeing what a nice guy Whitebeard is.
  • Broke Your Arm Punching Out Cthulhu: Izuku did beat All for One and even killed Shigaraki, but he was left a physical and emotional wreck from the experience when he washed up on Onigashima. And what he witnessed on Onigashima didn’t help either…
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: At his 17th birthday celebration, he's eventually pressured into taking a sip of rum. He quickly passes out, either due to lack of experience, the rum being incredibly strong, or both.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: He drags the Moby Dick at 55% of his full strength.
  • Chick Magnet: Two very attractive women are outright attracted to him (though one hasn't admitted it—yet), and a third admits she would be willing to take his virginity if he was just a little older. When meeting Uta, she takes the opportunity to surreptitiously feel him up. Later in chapter 47 flirting a romantic fantasy she has of her and Izuku being on a ship. And now Charlotte Galette is gunning for him.
  • Combat Tentacles: He can create many of these and they prove to be very utilitarian.
  • Determinator: One of Izuku's greatest strengths and weaknesses is that he will never stop trying to fight and do the right thing. It is a strength, because it makes him far tougher and more resilient than a normal person and incredibly hard for a foe to beat him, but is also a weakness because he has a tendency to constantly pick or seek out fights against opponents that far outclass him such as Kaido and his inability to quit when he really should, let alone his indomitable instinct to always save others no matter what puts him at risk of being seriously injured (which, combined with his martyr complex, heroic ideals that define almost all his actions and continual moments of self-doubt, can put him in grave danger when he should otherwise could retreat in a precarious position).
  • Famed In-Story: Entered the One Piece world with only Yamato knowing he existed. By Chapter 40, after Kaido puts out a wanted poster on him, everyone takes notice of the unknown kid who not only crossed Kaido and lived, but whom Kaido wants alive. Unfortunately Izuku is none too pleased as when a lowlife like Breed knows of him and clearly the entire world does at this point, reflect how he’ll always have a target on his back and how at some point he is going to be hunted by Kaido, once someone makes the call like Breed almost did before being killed by Thatch.
  • Flying Brick: He can fly, and can also pack quite a punch (figuratively and literally).
  • Foil: He's very different from Luffy.
    • While both are shonen manga protagonists, Luffy is a reckless, tactless Idiot Hero who can't tell a lie to save his life (quite literally), has a Heroic Lineage (though it means nothing to him), and, while not incapable of empathy or compassion, is more concerned with defeating strong opponents and becoming the Pirate King than saving lives—though he always does the latter as a side effect anyway, and doesn't have a problem with it; Izuku, while capable of acting goofy at times, hails from a much grittier setting, and as such tends to plan things out before acting, is not above using deception, chooses his words carefully, and cares more about saving lives than attaining infamy.
    • Luffy is a Chaste Hero who can Ignore the Fanservice without even trying; Izuku is fully capable of realizing when a girl is flirting with him and becomes flustered.
  • Friend to All Living Things: An unintentional case. Whenever Izuku is trying to train and trying to go beyond his usual 50% usage of One For All, animals seem to flock to him whenever he uses his powers. The first time happening with the Manticores on Sphinx and the second time being seagulls and passing whales come to him while on the Moby Dick. However, these occurrences are beginning to frustrate Izuku as he is unable to concentrate any longer when this happens. But there seems to be more going on here than just a coincidence; As it’s almost like these creatures can sense One For All.
  • Genius Bruiser: His physical prowess is nothing to thumb one's nose at, but Izuku's true strength lies in just how smart he is, as his fights with Spytand Malice and the Finalem brothers demonstrate. He string Malice along in order to make him cocky before wrecking him, and even feeds him false information about his powers just in case the ex-Marine survives; and he makes it rain in order to exploit Handsome's Weaksauce Weakness. And Marco later even remarks he is the "brains” in his and Yamato’s dynamic when noting the young man’s analytical behavior.
  • Guile Hero: Izuku’s cleverness is on full display here. He manages a plan worthy of Mission: Impossible to steal a key Kaido keeps in his pants pocket at all times and almost manages to pull it off without having to fight anyone. During said fight with Spytand Malice he also runs with the Zoan's assumption that he'd eaten the Smoke-Smoke Fruit so that he'd let his guard down while Izuku is testing his defenses with increasing force, and claims that he's using 80% of his power during the climax rather than the 50% he actually is so that any intelligence Kaido gets will make him seem weaker than he actually is.
  • Heroic Build: Though his hero costume hides this, he’s quite muscular for someone his age. Which of course, was due to a year of rigorously training to be suitable for being a vessel for OFA back then, and he only got physically stronger from his numerous battles in his world. This allows him to blend in among the Beast Pirates by Dressing as the Enemy and almost no one bats an eye at him among the rank and file composed of shirtless men with accessory horns and fur capes; since they mostly assume he’s a veteran warrior like everyone else despite being younger than the vast majority of them. All except Malice, who saw his face and attitude didn’t match his warrior like physique.
    • Later Uta clandestinely takes the chance to let Izuku catch her when testing his heroic philosophy and gets a quick feel of his muscular body. Needless to say, she was pretty impressed to learn how "built" the young hero was.
  • Heroic Vow: He promises to help Yamato escape from Wano, and to eventually surpass her father and defeat him. So far, he's accomplished the first part. Yet is unfortunately unaware of the consequences of his naive yet heroic actions.
    • Later he and Yamato promise a tearful Uta they would come back for her and Gordon once they have a ship and free them from this lonely and isolated life on Elegia.
  • Hope Bringer: As a hero, this is Izuku’s stock and trade. When he sees people despairing, he does his best to show that there is a way out where life can get better. He doesn’t even care about being the strongest, as he simply wants to be someone that can help others in need. A philosophy that ends up making Teach question if he has any relation to a certain legend. While Teach is obviously incorrect since "he" has yet to go to sea in a few years, there are a few similarities.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: In his fight against Spytand, he initially only openly uses Smoke after Spytand assumes that he killed Smoker for the Smoke-Smoke Fruit, testing out his defenses wit increasing force. It's only after Malice in his hybrid Ancient Zoan form knocks him into the sea and lets his guard down that Izuku really starts to show what he can do.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Downplayed in that it's just Crossdressing rather than homosexuality, but the Minelli Sisters start measuring Izuku for a dress under the assumption that (based on his Pretty Boy looks), he's a closeted okama looking for something new for his wardrobe. Ensign Doll snarks that he might as well try it out because he has the build for it.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: After hearing Yamato's story, Izuku vows to free her and help her liberate Wano, seeing it as a chance to make up for his previous inability to act when he could (Eri) or save someone he truly felt was in danger (Tenko/Tomura).
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: While Izuku was successful in freeing Yamato from Kaido's clutches, when the captain of the Beast Pirates finds out that they have escaped, he becomes livid and has all of his subordinates turn the country of Wano upside down just to find them, not knowing that they're not on any of the islands because Izuku can fly. With the Beast Pirates searching through and kicking everyone out of their homes or flat out burning them to the ground, and overall were tearing Wano apart, many people, like Tama, have come to hate Izuku and Yamato. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Ace and his crew unfortunately suffer a grim fate with the Beast Pirates still in Wano, getting utterly destroyed; with Ace being broken by Queen and his former crewmates turned into lobotomized zombies.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: Zigzagged; while he was still a rookie in the My Hero Academia universe, Izuku was getting the hang of the strongest Quirk in that world and would have been its greatest hero had he not been transported to One Piece. Within One Piece, he is at best a mid-level threat, able to hold his own against some dangerous foes with trickery and luck but nowhere near ready to challenge the true powers of the Grand Line, with Kaido being so powerful that if he had been transported across dimensions instead of Izuku, he could have conquered that world without breaking a sweat. However, Izuku is only mid-tier in the New World, the most dangerous section of the Grand Line where the biggest and baddest pirates and the most powerful soldiers of the Navy live- in the North Blue, he can solo entire crews of pirates on his lonesome and the only threats he has to worry about are the top-tier Germa soldiers and Marine Commanders.
  • The Paragon: Izuku unknowingly inspires Sabo to take direct action against the Finalem Pirates with a combination of his personal Chronic Hero Syndrome and by stating that "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing”, words that Sabo takes to heart and outright proudly echoes to both Koala and Kuma. Granted, Sabo was already more than willing to take action, but Izuku's personal philosophy and words are strongly implied to have lit a fire on Sabo that in the future will help shape him to become the Number Two of The Revolutionary Army.
  • Thousand-Yard Stare: When Izuku witnesses Thatch kill the twisted slaver Breed, he is legitimately shocked and horrified, but after a talk, Izuku tries to cope with this unfortunate reality of being a pirate.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Comparatively speaking, he's rather small, even compared to most people. But it doesn't stop him from flattening a goddamn T. Rex with minimal effort!
  • Socially Awkward Hero: Izuku is quickly paralyzed by female affection, be it Yamato smothering him in her breasts every time she gives him a hug (which is often) or Uta openly fantasizing about him in leather pants. Not to mention he seems to be having a hard time fully embracing the pirate lifestyle, such as when Teach offered him his personal booze as a birthday present and awkwardly tried doing a pirate toast before tasting it.
  • Trapped in Another World: He's sucked into the One Piece world two years before the beginning of the story. Word of God even confirms that Izuku won't be able to return to his own world.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Izuku has been put through the ringer even before being warped away into the world of One Piece. From losing his close comrade Bakugo, and knowing he can never return to his world or see his friends and family again, Izuku’s spirit would’ve been broken if it weren’t for the Vestiges moral support. Yet once seeing what the Beast Pirates were like as Kaido brutally executed the prisoner’s Orochi brought by being eaten alive by the Numbers, witnessing the horrors of the SMILE fruits, alongside nearly getting killed by Kaido as he almost squashed him like a bug, added several more mental scars on his psyche. Even after escaping Onigashima with Yamato, the trauma still lingered within Izuku for a good while and contributed to making him constantly on edge and perceiving piracy very cautiously despite Yamato and Whitey Bay telling him otherwise. Heck he even viewed Devil Fruits with distaste and questioned if Yamato’s idol Oden went bad after learning of Elegia’s "fate”. But thankfully after the pair joined Whitebeard’s family, Izuku has become much more relaxed and open minded than he was beforehand. Yet this may soon come to a screeching halt when he makes his move.
  • Underestimating Badassery: When learning of Kaido, Izuku had initially believed he could handle him given all the other major villains he faced in his world while he’s trying to convince Yamato to escape Onigashima with him, but she tearfully shuts this down and explains just how monstrously powerful her father is. When he finally meets the Yonko himself, alongside having a near-death experience, Izuku realizes how horribly wrong he was, and comes to the conclusion that Kaido is FAR worse than All For One could ever be.
    • Yet after joining Whitebeard’s crew he still continuously underestimates what the New World throws at him, such as the massive hurricane that hit Melville; Izuku rushed in to try stopping it himself, yet nearly breaks his leg hitting the storm with 200% One for All for negligible damage, only for Whitebeard to blow the storm into nothing with a single blast from his Conqueror's Haki.
    • Later when facing Marco in a spar, Izuku greatly struggled to face the second division commander. All while Marco was holding back throughout their spar. But after losing, is forced to accept that Marco is even stronger than his mentor All Might. Which Izuku seems to still be having a hard time fully grasping given All Might was considered the strongest hero in his world; and really opens the perspective of the power scaling in the New World; and the unfortunate fact that beating Kaido is going to be far more difficult than he thought it be.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Averted. Given his plethora of abilities, it's natural to assume he ate a Devil Fruit, and thus cannot swim and is vulnerable to Seastone. So it's treated as a big deal when he reveals that he hasn't eaten one. With his only weaknesses being that he’s inexperienced and hasn’t fully unlocked/mastered OFA.
  • World's Strongest Man: Currently a Downplayed Trope, but with fantastic powers that don't strip him of the ability to swim like a Devil Fruit would, even without Haki, and only currently able to safely use 50% of his power, during their duel he's able to hurt Spytand Malice through tekkai and Haki , even without needing to use Fa Jin, and the latter fully believes that, given full mastery of his power and the ability to use Haki, he could pose a real threat to Kaido (who is considered the "Strongest Creature In The World") in the future.
  • Wrong Context Magic: One For All is unlike any power that the world of One Piece has ever seen, granting Izuku numerous powers without sacrificing his ability to swim. There's also his ability to converse with and gain knowledge from the Vestiges, who are invisible to all but the most powerful Observation Haki users.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: All For One's warp was one-way, and Yamato doesn't know of any warping Devil Fruits that allow people to cross dimensions, so Izuku cannot return to his own world even if he wanted to.

    Yamato
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yamato_anime_concept_artpng.png
Click here to see her hybrid form
Click here to see her Okuchi-no-Makami form
The oni daughter of Kaido, Yamato initially identifies herself as a man, specifically Kozuki Oden, her dad's archnemesis. This is done mostly to spite Kaido, whom she refuses to kowtow to or obey; and has led to him affixing her with a pair of explosive wrist cuffs to keep her from escaping. Izuku's arrival may change all that, though...

  • Adaptational Species Change: An ambiguous case; Yamato and Kaido are Ambiguously Human in canon, while here they are explicitly Oni, with features such as horns, a Healing Factor, and a Saiyan-like ability to become stronger from injury.
  • Amazonian Beauty: Yamato is not only tall, buxom, and very beautiful, but she is also has a pretty muscular physique, which was likely thanks to years of intense training and battles while on Onigashima. Such as when Izuku notes her muscular arms when her outfits sleeves are torn as they meet at their rendezvous point during their escape plan. Thus a lot of people have more than once remarked about her beauty alongside her formidable strength.
  • Ambiguous Gender: Averted. She's considered explicitly female in this story, though she is still referred to as Kaido's son by the Beast Pirates who know of her desire to "be" Kozuki Oden (and stick it to her father). After she escapes, King internally notes that the "joke" has gotten old and the Beast Pirates might as well stop playing along, to which Kaido apparently agrees as he refers to her as his daughter when talking to Spytand Malice. Eventually, Yamato drops the habit altogether and is happy with just being Yamato.
  • Animals Hate Her: For some reason, animals like cats and dogs will run in fear from Yamato when she tries to pet them, much to her frustration.
  • Archnemesis Dad: True to canon, she hates her father Kaido with a passion because he killed Oden, the man she admired so much, and is also putting Wano through absolute hell as its Evil Overlord.
  • Be Yourself: Part of her Character Development is learning and accepting that she doesn't have to be Oden to be like him, and she eventually stops introducing herself as Oden after the trip to Doyle.
  • Big Eater: Due to her height and build it’s understandable she would have a big appetite compared to most people. But since this is One Piece, she literally is able to eat several large portioned entrees on her own, much to Izuku’s shock.
  • Break the Cutie: Izou's constant and harsh rejection of Yamato when she tries to apologize and befriend him begin to wear on the girl, culminating in Izou kicking her full force into a mudslide and then trying to shoot her when Izuku pulls her free, calling her a monster all the while. Yamato is left a sobbing wreck in her cabin afterwards, her dreams of having a fun and accepting adventure like Oden have begun to shatter while she weakly tries to cling to the belief she is free. Later she is mostly better but unfortunately declares to herself that her dream to sail the seas like Oden are partly ruined after that incident and will be a long while before pursuing them again.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Yamato frequently tries to kill Kaido for his cruelty and malice. Stopping this for two weeks (because she's secretly nursing Izuku back to health) is seen as odd and concerning among the Beast Pirates.
  • Carry a Big Stick: Yamato's weapon is a giant steel kanabo like her father’s own massive weapon.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: Yamato is incredibly strong, though not on her dad's level (yet). She's strong enough to shrug off hits from Izuku at 50% power without using her armament haki, and he muses she could probably tank direct hits from All Might.
  • Cuddle Bug: Once she's freed of her chains, Yamato grows to love hugging people and will happily glomp anyone within reach.
  • Character Tics: Yamato recently developed a habit of itching her horns whenever her feelings of guilt and self loathing start to well up, combined with Hearing Voices to truly eat at her composure. This also happening whenever she gets angry, such as when she briefly lost her temper during her spar with Jozu.
  • Explosive Leash: Well, wrist-cuffs, but the function is the same. Thanks to Izuku she's freed of them before they escape Wano.
  • Fangirl: Of Oden, to the point that she chose to identify as him rather than as her father’s daughter for almost sixteen years. Considering tales of Oden and his logbook were her only escape from her Abusive Parent prior to Izuku’s arrival, this isn’t surprising. It’s also what allows her to defuse a tense situation with one of Oden’s former crew, Whitey Bay.
  • Fatal Flaw: Her innocence; Yamato grew up sheltered an abused so while she is not stupid, she is painfully naïve about how the world works and does not know when to shut up. She believes that her Hero-Worshipper tendencies towards Oden will endear her to Oden's former friends and allies, but this proves incredibly flawed when Izou rejects and attempts to kill her for her attempts to make peace, leaving Yamato an emotional wreck. Later, she almost completely blows hers and Izuku's cover to Trafalgar Law multiple times while gushing about how heroic he is being despite Law's protests to the contrary.
  • Genki Girl: After leaving Wano, Yamato grows into an energetic young woman who loves seeing new things and greeting those she likes with big hugs.
  • The Glomp: She glomps Izuku after he removes her cuffs. On their journeys through the New World she's developed into quite the hugger, mostly with Izuku but anyone else in his general vicinity has a chance of getting swept up.
  • Hearing Voices: As a result of the incident on Melville, and lack of sleep, Yamato's guilt now begins to manifest as a cruel voice whispering in her mind about how much trouble she's caused Izuku and the Whitebeard Pirates. She tries ignoring it, but it continues to eat away at her confidence and possibly her sanity.
  • Hulking Out: Due to Power Incontinence, Yamato can only use her Devil Fruit powers in moments of extreme rage or emotion in general. However, when she does shift it also enhances her oni genes as well, making her appear even more monstrous- her horns become larger and straighter, Yamato’s eyes turning into furious sapphire, with her already impressive muscles bulging from sheer fury alongside her mythical zoan’s wolf like characteristics adding more to her ominous appearance. Needless to say it was more than enough to make even a seasoned warrior like Izou pause from legitimate fear.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: Yamato doesn't really catch on when she does something with her body that flusters Izuku, such as her frequent subjecting him to Marshmallow Hell, asking him to hold her while she's bathing so she doesn't drown from her Devil Fruit, flashing him while dress shopping (though ironically, she was actually wearing more clothing during that incident than she normally does) or barging in on Izuku in the bathhouse while wearing a towel that indirectly shows off her curves. The Vestiges in that last instance note that she essentially has no filter whatsoever, though they muse whether that just the the nice way of calling Yamato a "dumbass”.
  • An Ice Person: Her Devil Fruit grants her ice powers which she uses to take down Bandsome. But this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what Yamato’s Devil Fruit can really do.
  • Marshmallow Hell: Yamato is a tall, busty Amazonian Beauty who loves glomping people she likes, with this being an inevitable result. Izuku is a frequent "victim", much to his embarrassment, but others such as Ensign Doll are not exempt from her affectionate hugs.
  • The Medic: Thanks to having to treat her injuries from fighting Kaido on her own, Yamato has a great knowledge of medicine and patching up wounds, which comes in handy when she finds Izuku half dead on the shores of Onigashima.
  • Menacing Mask: Yamato carries around a Hannya mask which she uses on special occasions, such as terrifying the last of the Finalem Pirates when she and Izuku unleash a Mook Horror Show on them after defeating the main body of the pirates.
  • Naïve Newcomer: Yamato's study of Oden's journal led her to believe that humans outside of Onigashima were good and that they (especially Oden's retainers and former friends) would welcome her with open arms once they saw how much she admired and emulated him. While she was mostly correct with Whitebeard’s crew, Izou's hatred for who she is and almost murderous rejection of her leaves Yamato a traumatized wreck with roughly shattered dreams and one of her idols hating her very existence.
  • Nice Girl: Unlike her father, Yamato is a very kind and friendly woman who greatly admires Kozuki Oden for his heroic qualities. She took care of a critically injured Izuku despite barely knowing anything about him, and jumps at the opportunity to help others in need such as Doyle under the torment of the Finalem Pirates.
  • No Social Skills: She's not very adept at social conventions, though considering the fact that she grew up in isolation, can you blame her? But hey, she’s starting to get better at it…sorta.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Spytand notes that her not challenging Kaido so often (because she's nursing Izuku back to health) is extremely unusual for her.
  • Power Incontinence: While her skill in Haki is phenomenal, Yamato's Devil Fruit powers are stunted due to the Seastone shackles acting as a Restraining Bolt and besides her Super Drowning Skills she can't do anything on command. The only times she has actually used her Devil Fruit powers were under moments of extreme stress or emotion, such as freezing Bandsome with a sliver of her ice powers when lashing out against his threat to kill Izuku or flying into a rage and unconsciously shifting into her hybrid form when Izou pistol whips Izuku when he tries to intervene after Izou kicked Yamato into a mudslide.
  • Smarter Than You Look: At first glance, you'd be forgiven for assuming she was just a Boisterous Bruiser. While she is one, she's also a passably competent medic, knows how to use distractions and ambushes effectively, and can pull off a deception from time to time.
  • Statuesque Stunner: While not the tallest woman in the world of One Piece, she's still about twice Izuku's height and is very beautiful.
  • Stepford Smiler: Following the incident on Melville, Yamato puts on a face of her being her normal, Genki Girl self. However, her internal monologue and Basil Hawkins' tarot reading indicate her inner turmoil is still unaddressed and Yamato is wrestling with some dark thoughts.
  • Super Drowning Skills: Directly addressed when she bathes in a pond; Izuku uses Black Whip to make sure she doesn't drown much to his embarrassment.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Just before her sparring match with Jozu, Yamato expresses confidence that while the commander will prove a challenge, she will push through and eventually win. During the actual fight, though, Jozu's skill in combat and mastery of his Devil Fruit lets him run rings around Yamato, disarming her and ultimately knocking her out while Yamato is only able to get a few superficial hits in. In the After-Action Patch-Up after Izuku loses to Marco, she admits she got cocky and severely underestimated Jozu's abilities, admitting she's got a long way to go before she truly gets stronger.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Like all Devil Fruit users, Yamato can't swim. Even bathing in a slightly deep pond is a risk, and she asks Izuku to hold her with Black Whip when they take a moment after escaping Wano to rest and bathe in a pool on a Sky Island.
  • Womanchild: Yamato gets really excited for experiencing new things, such as toys and dresses and new foods and drinks. Justified due to her essentially never getting a childhood and basing her behavior on Oden, who was also something of a Manchild in his early years.

One For All Vestiges

    In General

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/one_for_all_users_min.png
  • Ascended Extra: In MHA, they took a relative backseat to Midoriya’s struggles, and mostly regulated their advise to the fight against All For One, and how to use their individual Quirks. In this story, they much more frequently interact with Izuku; giving advise and commentating on nearly everything in the One Piece world. Though perhaps this change maybe due to the fact that Izuku is basically all alone in the world of One Piece and they're interacting with him more to keep his morale up.
  • The Immune: Word of God is Blackbeard cannot successfully steal One For All anymore than All For One ever could due to the fact One For All is an extremely unique quirk far different than any devil fruit. But more importantly, just like in canon, it cannot be forcefully taken away no matter what and can only be willfully transferred to another person.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: In My Hero Academia, the Vestiges were all destroyed in a gambit to break through Shigaraki's mental blocks and allow Izuku to speak plainly to him one-on-one. Here, since Izuku did not do that and went straight for a kill shot, they survive and accompany him into the world of One Piece.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: They are good friends and have bonded with each other through their mutual struggles against All For One, but they tend to bicker with one another and often resort to spectral Dope Slaps and comedic violence when one or another sets the rest off.
  • You Can See Me?: Anyone with sufficiently powerful Observation Haki can see them. They figure this out when Kaido has Izuku dead to rights and was a few seconds away from brutally murdering Izuku, though it takes a second occurrence with Whitebeard seeing them for the Vestiges to properly identify it as a haki ability.

The First Wielder — Yoichi Shigaraki
The first wielder of "One For All", the younger brother of All For One who had a strong sense of justice.
  • Badass Bookworm: The "badass" part is downplayed given his poor health in life, and status as a vestige after death, but he is still The Determinator whose will is equal to his brother’s, and he was well read in life to the point he even knows the history of battles in foreign nations. Which he more than frequently shares with Izuku to help on his journey.
  • The Heart: As in MHA, he’s the kindest, friendliest, and most optimistic of the vestiges when observing the One Piece world.

    The Second Wielder
Yoichi's successor and the first person to inherit One For All. He was once a leader of a rebel group that opposed All For One in his early days as a shadow king.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: In MHA he was The Cynic, but in this story he’s more of The Leader that while stern, can also be kind when needed. He’s been said to be a nicer Aizawa so to speak.
  • It Gets Easier: He is firmly against this in regards to killing, and believes that anyone that does follow this trope is a lunatic; while speaking to Izuku following the incident with Breed, he mentions he had to kill several times to protect Yoichi from All for One's minions, but it was never something he got used to.
  • Only Sane Man: Relative to the other vestiges, he’s the only one who doesn’t get distracted by comedy or the moral arguments of the others.

    The Third Wielder — Bruce
Shinomori's predecessor. He was a comrade of the second user and they saved Yoichi from All For One.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: While he was also The Cynic with the second wielder, in this story he’s even more negative and abrasive than even his predecessor; where in MHA he joined in the other user’s concern over Midoriya’s self-destructive solo quest, while the second disagreed.
  • Spotting the Thread: He's one of the first to notice that "Sora's" story doesn't add up, suspecting her to be a mole looking to backstab them at the opportune moment.

The Fourth Wielder — Hikage Shinomori
The fourth wielder of One For All, a tall, muscular man with a large scar on his face.
  • Badass Bookworm: He was the first wielder of One For All who cultivated it’s power to the point it’s Super-Strength was prominent, and in this story he’s the most well-read of all the vestiges due to spending so much time reading while isolated training One For All.
  • Mentor Archetype: While all the vestiges mentor Midoriya, he’s described as the wisest while also being The Hermit, so he fits the classical depiction better.

The Fifth Wielder — Daigoro Banjo
The fifth wielder of One For All, a past hero known as Lariat in his time.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: He’s a former hero and One For All wielder, and will frequently comment on the attractiveness of the women Izuku encounters.
  • Cool Uncle: He tries to be a fun loving uncle-figure to Izuku; encouraging him to loosen up, and to find enjoyment in the One Piece world.

    The Sixth Wielder — En
The sixth wielder of One For All, Daigoro's colleague and Nana Shimura's predecessor.
  • Just Like Robin Hood: This was his career as a hero, according to Word of God.
  • Money Fetish: He shares Nami’s love of money and treasure.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Heavily downplayed, given he was a hero and One For All wielder. However, he is also a thief with a bit of an obsession for money, and is the one most comfortable with pirate society.

The Seventh Wielder — Nana Shimura
All Might's master and the seventh wielder of One For All.
  • Head Butting Heroes: She’s the one who most vocally clashes with the Third and reprimands the Fifth physically when ever he acts too much of a pervert.
  • Team Mom: She’s the motherly figure of all the vestiges, and usually tries to reign in the behavior of those like the Third, Banjo, and En. Alongside offering advice and encouragement to Izuku.

The Eighth Wielder — Toshinori Yagi
Better known by his hero name, All Might. The eighth holder of One For All and Izuku Midoriya’s inspiration and predecessor.
  • The Hero's Idol: Midoriya still gushes whenever he gets to talk about All Might. It lets him easily bond with Yamato who also comes to admire him, given his similarities to Oden.
  • Out of Focus: Due to his incomplete vestige not being able to speak, he’s the one most overlooked in the story; to the point the story’s information about each wielder doesn’t even include him.

Beast Pirates

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/beasts_pirates_jolly_roger_6.png
A massive and immensely powerful pirate army that, under the leadership of the fiendish Emperor Kaido, has settled on the island of Onigashima, located in the New World. Decades ago, they overthrew the ruling Shogun, Kozuki Oden, with the aid of the treacherous Kurozumi Clan; and have since turned Onigashima and the neighboring Wano (ruled by their ally, Kurozumi Orochi) into a cesspit of debauchery and brutal violence where only the strongest thrive—until someone else comes along to take that spot, and the opportunity is always there—while the weak are broken by soul-crushing labor into mindless slaves. Izuku Midoriya's arrival turned their world tospy-turvy when, in a daring and cunning scheme, he managed to sneak in and rescue Kaido's daughter, Yamato, before departing across the seas. Kaido has been obsessed with tracking them down ever since, even offering a reward to anyone who can bring the duo back to him alive—so he can unleash the full weight of his wrath upon Izuku.
  • All for Nothing: When they realize that Yamato has escaped with one called "Deku", they assume the pair are hiding in Wano and turn the place upside down looking for them. It's not until Spytand Malice, the only member who knows anything about Izuku's powers, wakes up from the coma that the boy put him in and informs them that Izuku can fly that they realize the search was doomed to fail from the start. Kaido hits the roof:
Kaido: Two weeks. TWO!!!! WEEEEEEEEKS! TWO WEEKS! TWO WEEKS DESTROYING OUR OWN DOMAIN; MY KINGDOM!!! WHILE THOSE TWO RAN FREE! TWO WHOLE WEEEEEEEEEKS!
  • At Least I Admit It: They're about as brutal as the World Government, but unlike the World Nobles or the Marines, they don't have pretentions of godhood based on birth or make claims about justice. They do what they do because they can and are strong enough to get away with it.
  • Badass Crew: As crew of one of the Four Emperors of the Sea they are one of the 4 strongest groups of pirates in the world.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: The Beast Pirates are a horde of thugs who proudly display the worst aspects of piracy within the world of One Piece, reveling in the pain and suffering of others while caring only for their own pleasure.
  • Dark Action Girl: The women among their ranks are just as capable as the men, and are no less vile.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • Say one thing for these bastards, they aren't hypocrites—at least when it comes to morals. Unlike the World Government and its organizations, they never try to claim the moral high ground over anybody and are entirely honest about what assholes they are.
    • Catching Ulti or Black Maria's attention illicits nothing but pity for the victim.
  • Equal-Opportunity Evil: Gender and even age mean nothing to them. If you're strong and willing to serve, you can join.
    • That being said, they're not particularly fond of Badass Normals. One of the prerequisites for trying to join the higher-ups is having a Devil Fruit (preferably Zoan), or being compatible with an artificial SMILE Fruit.
  • Horns of Villainy: They have a strong association with horns. The oni among them have natural ones, while others wear fake ones.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": When King reveals that Yamato has escaped with Izuku's help, and provides the explosive cuffs and the key to them (which Kaido thought was still in his pocket) as proof, all those present can only stare in wide-eyed disbelief before collectively turning to Kaido, knowing his rage will be volcanic. And it is.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Instead of killing Portgas D. Ace, they send him to the slave mines to be broken by labor because they think his potential could be useful to them. All this does is give the vengeful Ace a chance to learn how to use Haki from Hyogoro, who inspires Ace with the story of Izuku and Yamato's escape from Onigashima.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: The stronger you are, the higher you are in the Beast Pirates Hierarchy.
  • Rape, Pillage, and Burn: They terrorize the populace of Wano after Yamato escapes with Izuku's help, thinking the duo are hiding there. Kaido only calls them off after learning that Izuku can fly.
  • Slavery Is a Special Kind of Evil: They practice slavery, forcing many to work in hellish conditions in order to break their will; and women who fail to show any combat potential are often forced into prostitution.
  • The Social Darwinist: Their collective philosophy is that the strong can get away with anything, and they practice it in the worst possible way.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: They tend to rely on sheer force to win. Even the ones with actual combat training have little to no finesse, though to their credit, they rarely need it.
  • Villainous Valor: Assholes they may be, but they're not cowards.
  • Virtue Is Weakness: They laugh at morality and see it as a restraint.
  • Wild Goose Chase: When Yamato escapes, they assume that she and Izuku are hiding somewhere in Wano and tear the island apart looking for them. This goes on for two weeks before being abruptly called off when Spytand Malice, whom Izuku had knocked out during the escape, wakes up and tells everyone that the boy can fly, meaning the pair were never in Wano to begin with. Kaido flies into a rage upon hearing this and puts a bounty on Izuku.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: They are all shocked when a recovered Spytand Malice reveals that (a) Izuku is a teenager, (b) that his powers don't come from a Devil Fruit, (c) that he doesn't know how to use Haki, and (d) that he can fly. The last one sends Kaido into a towering rage, as it means that Izuku and Yamato could be anywhere, and that the crew's search for them through Wano was a fool's errand from the start.

    Kaido

Click here to see his hybrid form
Click here to see his dragon form
The Governor-General of the Beast Pirates and one of the Four Emperors of the Sea. He is Yamato's father, an Oni, and the Big Bad of the story.
  • Abusive Dad: He mocks his daughter for identifying with his old enemy and brutally beats her frequently, and then of course there's his affixing explosive wrist cuffs to her in order to deter her from trying to escape.
  • Adaptational Species Change: An ambiguous case like his daughter. In canon, there are only hints that he is not a human. Here, he is explicitly an Oni, a race of their own like the giants or fishmen.
  • The Alcoholic: He's usually seen drinking from his gourd. Yamato's escape and Ace's failed invasion have caused him to sober up, to the surprise of his crew.
  • Alcohol-Induced Idiocy: One of the reasons Izuku was able to sneak into his room and steal the key to Yamato's cuffs was because Kaido was too drunk to pay thorough attention to him, despite noticing his presence. Kaido is all too aware of this, and has sworn to stay sober until after he has killed the boy.
  • Archnemesis Dad: Yamato hates him with every fiber of her being.
  • At Least I Admit It: What Malice likes about Kaido. Yes he's an Evil Overlord who's brutally oppressing the people of Wano but he's honest about it. Unlike the Celestial Dragons who are even worse and the Marines who either help or enable them he does not claim to be a pillar of justice or a god due to his heritage to justify his actions and is completely upfront and blunt with his Might Makes Right beliefs.
  • Awesomeness Is a Force: Kaido has Conqueror's Haki, which allows him to project his willpower either into attacks or as an aura of force around him. It's so strong that even when black out drunk, just a small overflow is enough to cause Izuku to freeze in terror and nearly get himself killed, and Whitebeard muses that between the two of them, Kaido is the one with stronger Haki.
  • Character Tic: He's almost always reaching for his drinking gourd. Even after Yamato and Izuku's escape has caused him to swear off alcohol until he catches them, he still instinctively reaches for it, despite knowing it isn't there.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: The betrayal of the King of Vodka and his nation is this to Kaido who had fought for them as their hero... Only to be sold to the World Government so that the king will have a seat in the Reverie. As a result, he believes that Oni have no place in the world that only fears and hates them as he tells Yamato.
  • Do Wrong, Right: Izuku's making off with Yamato naturally angers him, but what frustrates Kaido even more is that the boy used stealth and trickery to accomplish this rather than challenge Kaido directly (even if he admits that it was clever). This led to Kaido making a number of incorrect assumptions, the worst being that the pair were hiding in Wano, resulting in the Beast Pirates tearing up their own domain for two whole weeks before they finally learn that the pair flew away. As Kaido himself notes in Chapter 47, he wasn't humiliated, but made a fool of by the event.
  • The Dreaded: He is one of the strongest men in the world and his mere presence is paralyzing to the point that Izuku cannot force himself to move forward to his chambers. Kaido muses that animals like insects instinctually avoid his vicinity.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: A brief internal monologue reveals that Kaido's mother was the only person he ever loved.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • He holds nothing but contempt for Orochi despite propping up his self-destructive regime, even calling him a rat for interrupting his final showdown with Oden. For that matter, he doesn't like having his fights interrupted, even if said interruption was on his behalf and beneficial to him.
    • Kaido's planned confrontation with Joy Boy as part of his Evil Plan reveals that he has nothing but utter hatred and disgust for the Fantastic Racism the nonhuman species suffer at the hands of many humans in the One Piece world and he plans to force the deity to explain why he favored humans over oni and allowed the Lunarians to be driven to extinction, something he considers utterly reprehensible.
    • One of the few things he and his fellow Emperors Whitebeard and Big Mom can agree upon (and the latter is no saint herself) is that Rocks D. Xebec was a monster and the three happily pissed on his grave before parting ways.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: He truly does not understand why Yamato hates his guts and refuses to be his heir, even thinking everything he’s done to Yamato was for her own good in some severely twisted thinking.
  • Evil Is Petty: Kaido smashes Queen into a pulp for failing to heed Malice's warnings about Izuku, but his wrath doesn't end there—he makes sure to supply Queen with medicine that stings badly when applied just to stick it to the fat sack-of-shit even more.
  • Evil Plan: Chapter 47 elaborates on it. Like in canon, Kaido intends to kill Orochi, have Yamato succeed Orochi as Wano's Shogun, and turn it into a complete hellhole. But this story adds more to it: he expects his tyrannical rule to eventually lead to the return of Joy Boy, whom Kaido intends to slay, though not before forcing the deity to explain why he favored humans over oni and allowed the Lunarians to be driven to extinction. Yamato's stubborn refusal to submit to him and eventual escape throws a huge monkey wrench into those plans.
  • Eviler than Thou:
    • Upon seeing him for the first time, Izuku notes that he is far worse than All For One or any villain he has ever faced, and had circumstances been different and Kaido ended up in MHA instead of Izuku ending up in One Piece, nothing (not even One For All) would be able to stop him from conquering the world.
    • He commandeers Wano from Orochi in the name of his search for Izuku and Yamato, and when Orochi indignantly tries to throw his (diminutive) weight around, Kaido bluntly tells the puny little shit that he's just a Puppet King that can be disposed of at any time.
  • Fallen Hero: He was once the "Hero of Vodka" who fought and defended the kingdom with his might. But he became a pirate after he was betrayed by the king who sold him to the World Government for a seat at the Reverie and he escaped from their captivity.
  • Godzilla Threshold: His misdeeds, such as staging gruesome public executions, enrage Izuku so much that the boy marks him for death.
  • Invincible Villain: Izuku figures out very quickly that this guy is much worse than All For One could ever be(even at his most powerful through Shigaraki) and that he and Yamato as they are now would be squashed by Kaido if they tried to fight him. Nothing can apparently kill him as the Marines have tried for years and nothing has worked. As Skull states, he just won't die. Though that doesn’t stop Izuku from believing he can one day defeat the monstrous Yonko, even comparing him to another mountain to overcome.
  • I See Dead People: He can sense the vestiges in One For All through his Observation Haki much to their fright and shock. Albeit vaguely since he was beyond drunk at the time.
  • It's Personal: He is obsessed with killing Izuku for "stealing" Yamato from him.
  • It's Probably Nothing: He looks right at Izuku while doling out artificial Devil Fruits, but dismisses him as just another rookie. And boy, does he regret it.
  • Knight Templar Parent: He nearly flips out when he thinks that Izuku and Yamato are in a sexual relationship. King, who's more cool-headed and observant, calms him down by giving a more accurate summation of what went on in her bedroom. Yet Malice acknowledges it’s no wonder he’d be so angry at the idea, no matter how jarring it may be.
  • Large and in Charge: He's gigantic in his "normal" form, and becomes a Shenron-sized dragon in his full Zoan form. His hybrid form combines the most terrifying and powerful aspects of both forms, so he always remains powerful and intimidating regardless of whether his powers are active or not.
  • Might Makes Right: Kaido's entire philosophy, where the weak bend knee to the strong and the strong lord their power over the weak as they like. He is so far into this mindset that he has trouble comprehending why anyone else would not follow it. Even his own daughter is shown no respect unless she is able to beat him.
  • Never My Fault:
    • Averted. He freely admits that he could have prevented Izuku from stealing the key to Yamato's cuffs if he had been sober; and after the Spade Pirates make a failed invasion attempt, he acknowledges that his obsession with finding Izuku and Yamato led to a slackening of security.
    • Played straight in that he refuses to acknowledge that his tyrannical behavior is the primary reason why Yamato hates his guts. He simply dismisses her as being weak and idealistic.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: His preferred method of emphasizing how powerful he is—or if you sufficiently pissed him off.
    • He regularly subjects Yamato to this whenever she challenges him.
    • When he learns that Queen played a key role in Yamato's escape (by ignoring reports of her OOC behavior), Kaido beats the hell out of him, destroying his mechanical arm and rendering him incapable of moving without the help of a three-wheeled chair.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Kaido is a relatively Benevolent Boss to the highest ranked members of the Beast Pirates and is pretty casual and relaxed among them. After he discovers that Yamato has escaped with Izuku, he strikes Page One so hard he's in a coma for a few days just for talking out of turn, highlighting just how utterly enraged he is and how its much worse then any of his brief drunken rages combined.
    • What Deku and Yamato achieved was already enough to push Kaido into unheard of levels of rage, but when his subordinates learn that Kaido has also given up alcohol until he gets Yamato back and deals with Deku, it utterly shocks all of them; including King and Malice.
    • After learning that Midoriya can fly, thus he and Yamato could be anywhere in the world, Kaido issues a bounty solely on Deku for 350,000,000 berries, and explicitly alive. That the bounty is so high for a completely unknown person doesn’t grab people’s attention as much as the idea anyone could cross Kaido, and both live to tell about it and Kaido still wanting them alive.
  • Papa Wolf: Played for Drama. His protectiveness of Yamato is dehumanizing and more about how he sees her as an object belonging to him; Izuku escaping with her infuriates him in the same vein as a theft rather than a kidnapping, even explicitly calling the act a robbery.
  • Pet the Dog: Kaido has his moments.
    • He does show some concern for Yamato's well being by refusing to post a bounty on her concerned that the Marines might figure out that she's his daughter and try and kill her or use her against him.
    • Kaido also lets Malice off the hook despite losing to Izuku and letting him and Yamato escape and even gives him some compliments. He later admits to sympathizing with Malice's backstory, which is why he doesn't look down on the ex-Marine for not being an oni.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Kaido has leveled cities and destroyed entire fleets of Marine battleships on his lonesome in the past. Even his bouts of rage when he doesn't physically attack anything can shake the very earth and drive animals into a panic, and Izuku seeing him for the first time is enough to shatter his confidence of fighting Kaido one-on-one anytime soon.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: His swearing off alcohol until he catches Izuku and Yamato keeps his mind somewhat focused, but he's so unused to staying sober for long periods of time that he quickly begins to develop withdrawal symptoms, the most notable being that he still instinctively reaches for his drinking gourd even when he knows it isn't there. It wears down eventually, but Kaido still expresses discomfort at having to abstain from alcohol.
  • Tough Love: Kaido frames his abuse of Yamato as him trying to prepare her for how the world will treat oni like her, based on his own background as a Fallen Hero betrayed and abused by humans.
  • Unstoppable Rage: His temper is volcanic and can (and does) lead to mass devastation.
    • The first time is after he is informed that Yamato escaped, and that she'd used trickery to do it. He goes into full dragon mode and lashes out at his subordinates.
    • The second time is when Malice informs him that Izuku can fly, meaning he sent his crew on a wild goose chase for two whole weeks. He restrains himself to man-beast mode, but still unleashes streams of molten-hot fire that would have killed Spytand Malice had King not protected the ex-Marine.
  • Villain Has a Point: One of Kaido's lines to Yamato during his beatdowns is that the world hates the oni, and should she go out there they would reject and despise her just as they rejected and despised him. While most of the humans Yamato meets are not like that, it's her failed attempts at befriending Izou that get Yamato to admit Kaido wasn't completely wrong.
  • Villains Never Lie: For all the abuse he heaped on her, Yamato is adamant that one of the few things Kaido didn't do was lie to her. This becomes an even more bitter pill for her to swallow when she is brutally rejected and nearly murdered by Izou, one of Oden's former retainers, proving that Kaido was right to some extent about how normal humans would reject an oni like her.
  • Villain Respect: He hates Izuku and intends to kill him, but Kaido also begrudgingly acknowledges that the boy's plan to steal the key to Yamato's cuffs was excellent. He goes as far as to compare it to something straight out of an old legend.
  • Wanted a Son Instead: He tells Yamato that he would have preferred she were born an actual boy instead of pretending to be one. He still makes it clear that he'd be willing to train her as a worthy heir if she just submitted to his will.
  • You Have Failed Me:
    • Downplayed. He tells Malice this, but instead of killing him, he simply orders Malice to find Izuku and Yamato to make up for his failure, a mission the former Marine eagerly accepts.
    • He beats Queen to a bloody pulp after Malice reveals that the corpulent All-Star was given prior warning by the ex-Marine that Yamato was behaving suspiciously in the days leading up to her escape, but simply dismissed it.

Click here to see him unmasked
The leader of the All-Stars, Kaido's right-hand man and friend (to the point of being on a First-Name Basis with him), and the last Lunarian.
  • Always Someone Better: He is this to Fire Fist Ace by demonstrating his superior control over fire and bypassing the latter's fire Logia body with Haki.
  • Commonality Connection: He and Kaido have bonded over the sorry states of their species, Kaido the member of a Dying Race while King is the Last of His Kind as far as anyone is aware.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • Incapacitates a frenzied Ulti with a single kick.
    • Crushes Ace with barely any effort.
  • The Dreaded: Besides Kaido, King is the most feared of the Beast Pirates, most of whom are deeply intimidated by him. Page One is willing to fight Who's Who and his whole crew after they attack Ulti, but when King knocks her out, he doesn't dare try to retaliate and meekly follows his orders.
  • Dynamic Entry: He kicks off his assault on the Spade Pirates by smashing into their ship like a flaming meteor. And it only gets worse from there.
  • Hell-Bent for Leather: His entire outfit is this with a face concealing mask that protects hims from being recognized as a Lunarian.
  • Last of His Kind: Is the only known living Lunarian, at least as far as he knows.
  • Number Two: King is the second-in-command of the Beast Pirates and for good reason, being one of Kaido's oldest allies and his most powerful fighter to boot.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • He gets nervous upon discovering Yamato's explosive cuffs and the key to them, knowing this means that she has escaped.
    • He becomes openly afraid when Spytand Malice reveals that Izuku can fly, knowing that Kaido's reaction will be terrifying as he realizes their scouring of Wano for the last two weeks was a colossal waste of time.
  • Only Sane Employee: He is this among the All Stars as he maintains a professional attitude when handling rank-and-file Beast Pirates members which he shares with Spytand Malice.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: King doesn't play with his food, something the Spade Pirates learn the hard way.
  • Not So Above It All: For all his seriousness, he does suggest to Malice that the latter should find a hobby, such as drugs or binge-drinking.
  • Papa Wolf: He is protective of Bao Huang especially when she is in danger because of Ace's attack.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • His entire relationship with Bao Huang; while he's initially annoyed at the girl's antics, he grows fond of her overtime and even protects her from danger.
    • He saves Malice from being incinerated by an enraged Kaido when Malice reveals that Izuku can fly.
Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: Inverted. He delivers a chilling one to Ace after wiping out the Spade Pirates.
King: You will know, Fire-Fist Ace. You will know the hell you have invaded.
  • Villainous Friendship: King is the only real friend that Kaido has ever had. They have known each other for decades and King understands Kaido better then anyone else in the Beast Pirates.

    Queen
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/queen_anime_8.png
Click here to see his hybrid form
Click here to see his Brachiosaurus form
One of the All Stars and the resident Mad Scientist of the Beast Pirates. His Devil Fruit allows him to turn into a brachiosaur.
  • Acrofatic: He's quicker on his feet than his girth would have you expect.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Kaido apparently tore off (or smashed) Queen's mechanical arm while kicking the shit out of him for not listening to Spytand Malice's report about Yamato's increasingly suspicious behavior. Being a master mechanic, Queen eventually made another one.
  • Archenemy: To Portgas D. Ace, whom he's trying to torture into joining the Beast Pirates; and whose crew he lobotomized, roboticized, and ultimately caused the deaths of.
  • Bandage Mummy: Is reduced to this after Kaido beats the tar out of him for brushing off Malice's warnings about Yamato's suspicious behavior prior to her escape.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Queen has a very eccentric/ridiculous personality but don't let that fool you. He is easily one of the most powerful of the Beast Pirates, surpassed only by King and Kaido himself, in addition to being the most cruel and sadistic of them as well, as Ace finds out to his horror.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: He's all too aware of Spytand Malice's desire to usurp him, so when Izuku leaves the ex-Marine in critical condition, Queen would prefer to kill him or use him as a lab rat. However, Kaido wants Malice alive and in perfect health so that he can be questioned, so Queen grits his teeth and ensures that Malice makes a full recovery, knowing better than to disobey his boss.
  • Fat Bastard: Very corpulent, and the only member of the Beast Pirates without any positive qualities whatsoever.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He tries to come off as a Big Fun type of character at times, but he's really a depraved scumbag.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: He's an expert at building machines, and turning people into robotic surveillance slaves, as the Spade Pirates find out, to their misfortune.
  • Insult Backfire: When a captured Ace mocks his appearance, he takes it as a compliment.
  • It's Probably Nothing: His response to Malice's report about Yamato's behavior, and then he accuses the ex-marine of being attracted to her for shiggles. This backfires horribly on him later, as Kaido realizes that Yamato's escape attempt would have failed had Queen taken Malice's words seriously, resulting in the All-Star receiving a thorough ass-whooping from his outraged boss.
  • Jerkass: He demeans Spytand Malice despite the former Marine's professionalism and dedication to the Beast Pirates at every opportunity, even calling him as "Spiteful Malicious".
  • Kick the Dog:
    • He turns the remaining Spade Pirates into flesh robots as the new Surveillance Unit of the Beast Pirates or the Marys he calls them.
    • He mocks Ace's Broken Tears and shows it to everyone watching his breakdown via the Marys to laugh at.
    • During a fight with Ace, he reveals that his lobotomization process went too far and the Surveillance Unit members eventually starved to death, then laughs at the boy's despair.
  • Laughably Evil: Queen is a horrible excuse for a person, even among the Beast Pirates, but he is such a Large Ham that it's hard not to enjoy him when he's in a scene.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: He brushed off Spytand Malice's warnings of Yamato's increasingly suspicious behavior prior to her escape, in addition to treating the former Marine like trash. When a recovered Malice reports this to Kaido, the Emperor beats the living daylights out of Queen.
  • Mad Scientist: As inhumanly vile as he's absolutely brilliant: mechanically, His Unwilling Roboticisation of the Spade Pirates is a utterly horrifying but brilliant bit of engineering that only Vegapunk and possibly Vinsmoke Judge could surpass... and then proceeds to show how much of a monster he is by mocking Ace's horrified grief and shows it to everyone watching his breakdown via the Marys to laugh at. A brilliant monster, Queen is. Which makes sense given he is a former member of MADS.
  • Never My Fault: He spends his whole appearance in Chapter 47 whining about the savage beating Kaido gave him and labeling Spytand Malice as an Ungrateful Bastard for tattling to Kaido (which led to said beating). He conveniently ignores the facts that (a) he was a shitty boss to Malice, thus the ex-Marine had no reason not to rat him out; (b) he only treated Malice's injuries because Kaido ordered him to, otherwise he would have gladly left him to die or use him as a guinea pig (which is worse); and (c) he ignored Yamato's behavior when he shouldn't have. In the latter case, he even blames Malice's paranoia, ignoring the fact that Malice's report was not paranoid in the slightest.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Had he taken Malice's reports about Yamato's behavior seriously, she and Izuku wouldn't have escaped. But he brushed them off, and they did. And boy, does Kaido make him pay for it.
  • Oh, Crap!: When Malice informs Kaido that Queen ignored his concerns about what Yamato was up to prior to her escape, a very pissed off Kaido informs Queen that he will be coming over for a talk, much to Queen's terror.
  • Spanner in the Works: His refusal to take Malice's warnings about Yamato's behavior seriously plays a key factor in her and Izuku managing to escape from Onigashima. Naturally, this lands him in boiling-hot water when Kaido finds out.
  • Stout Strength: He claims that the bulk (heh-heh) of his girth is actually muscle, not fat. Given his status as one of Kaido's top three subordinates, he's probably not lying.
  • Villain Has a Point: Contemptible shitscum that he is, Queen isn't wrong when he tells Ace that the latter should have considered the potential consequences of starting (and losing) a fight with the Beast Pirates, considering their reputation.
  • We Can Rule Together: He tried really hard to get Ace to swear allegiance to Kaido, and seems to have taken the boy's refusal as a personal insult.
  • You Have Failed Me: Kaido is incredibly unhappy when it's revealed Queen dismissed Malice's report about Yamato's strange behavior, which allowed Izuku and her to escape more or less undetected. Said unhappiness is expressed through extreme violence.

    Spytand Malice
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1000002651.png
An Original Character who served as a member of the Flying Six before X Drake joined the Beast Pirates and might’ve replaced his position in canon. He serves as the first Arc Villain as he is the first person aware of Izuku's presence and the implication that he is an intruder.
  • Ambition Is Evil: He dreams of one day becoming an All-Star, preferably by taking Queen's position over the latter's corpse.
  • Ax-Crazy: He keeps it controlled better than many Beast Pirates, but Malice makes no illusion about the fact that he loves death and destruction and feels more at home in battle than lazing about Onigashima.
  • Big Brother Is Watching: He keeps tabs on the rest of the crew with a vast spy network.
  • Boring, but Practical: While most of the Beast Pirates devote their time to feasting, drinking, and fighting, Malice focuses entirely on taking inventory, collecting taxes, gathering information, and basically all the other important behind-closed-doors stuff that keeps the crew afloat. Most of them dismiss him as just a tight-ass, but the more pragmatic ones (such as Kaido and King) understand how important his actions are and appreciate them—though even King thinks he should get a hobby.
  • Cassandra Truth: He is aware that Yamato is hiding something, but he is written off by Queen as overly paranoid due to stress/sexual tension, a crush on Yamato, or overall disregarded. He gets his revenge by informing Kaido of this later, ensuring that Queen is going to have a very unpleasant confrontation with their boss.
  • Combat Pragmatist: He's not above using ambushes, and incapacitates Yamato with a seastone net before confronting Izuku so the pair can't double-team him. Not that it does him any good, especially since Izuku isn't above dirty tricks, either.
  • Defector from Decadence: Malice is a former Marine Vice-Admiral who abandoned the World Government due to their raging hypocrisy and joined the Beast Pirates because, while they were just as bad if not worse than the World Government, they didn't disguise their villainy behind hollow rhetoric.
  • Determinator: He drags himself out of bed without having fully recovered from his fight with Izuku in order to engage Fire-Fist Ace, and actually manages to hold his own against the Logia user long enough for King to arrive.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: During his time in the Marines Malice was a harsh taskmaster, and that attitude hasn't changed since joining the Beast Pirates. One of the first indicators that something is wrong following Yamato's escape is when King finds Malice's men slacking off and the former Vice-Admiral is nowhere to be found.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Despite his high position in the Beast Pirates, he's often treated with open contempt due to being a turncoat Marine. Kaido and King seem to be the only ones willing to treat him professionally, but that's not enough for Malice.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Malice is a basket case, but he despises hypocrisy and its implied that a disagreement over Absolute Justice was part of his motivation for abandoning the Marines.
  • Glory Hound: One of the primary reasons why Izuku and Yamato were able to escape was because Malice, despite noticing Izuku and becoming extremely suspicious of the boy's behavior, didn't bother to report his suspicions to King because he wanted to claim all the credit for catching the boy for himself.
  • Hidden Depths: He gets visibly jealous when he sees Izuku and Yamato greeting one another joyfully, indicating that he would like to have a legitimate friend.
  • Made of Iron: He survives the Megaton Punch Izuku gives him, getting sent flying through the air, and the inevitable date with gravity that wraps it up. The miners who find him are surprised to discover that he's still conscious and manages to keep talking. He doesn't pass out until the doctors are forced to sedate him when he senses just how angry Kaido is and begins to panic.
  • Malicious Misnaming: He is mocked by Queen as "Spiteful Malicious" every time they are in the same room together, which angers him.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Ulti accuses him of wanting to keep "Dekyun" for himself and asks if that's why he doesn't have a lounge like the other members of the Flying Six (instead choosing to abduct and rape male Beast Pirates in the back alleys of Onigashima), an accusation that pisses Malice off to no end.
  • Nosy Neighbor: Pirate version. Malice seems to love knowing everyone else's business to the point when he realizes Yamato is hiding a secret, he becomes obsessed with figuring out what it is.
  • Noodle Incident: What exactly led to his defection from the Marines is a mystery. All that is known about Malice's past was that it involved some incident that led to the deaths of many Marines, he hates the Absolute Justice doctrine, he blames Smoker for "ratting" on him, and he had been hiding out on Dressrosa when he was recruited by King.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Has an escalating one of these when 1) Izuku reveals that he’d been sandbagging their fight to figure out how tough Malice was, 2) Izuku getting serious still isn’t using his full strength, and 3) Izuku can’t even use haki yet.
    • He has another one when he senses Kaido's rage from his sick-room, because he knows that Kaido will most likely have him killed for failing to stop Izuku and Yamato from escaping Onigashima.
  • Only Sane Employee: He is a former member of the Marines that defected due to the World Government's hypocrisy and retains a professional attitude when it comes to managing his underlings. He has the most respect for King as they are both straight-laced men in a wild crew (and while King will never admit it, the feeling is mutual).
  • Original Character: He is a creation of the author to fill the sixth spot on the Flying Six at a time when X Drake, one of the Eleven Supernovas, was explicitly not a member.
  • Out-Gambitted: Izuku plays him like a fiddle during their fight, stringing him along and letting him make inaccurate guesses about the boy's powers before utterly wrecking him.
  • Power Misidentification: Mistakes Izuku's use of smoke for him having killed Smoker to take the Smoke-Smoke Fruit Logia power. Izuku lets him think that, so when he knocks Izuku into the ocean he lets his guard down and gets hit by a surprise attack.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Malice hates Queen, and would want nothing more than to kill the Fat Bastard and take his place in the All-Stars. He chooses to pursue Izuku and Yamato alone in the hopes that defeating them will be enough for Kaido to grant him that chance.
  • Straight Edge Evil: Malice does not indulge in any of the vices the Beast Pirates love; drugs, booze, women, he avoids them all and devotes himself completely to his work. While most of the Flying Six and the Headliners mock him as a workaholic killjoy, King and Kaido both appreciate his dedication to his work and for keeping his men in good fighting order.
  • Scaled Up: Like every other member of the Flying Six, he has a Ancient Zoan Devil Fruit: Tyrannosaurus.
  • Shout-Out: His appearance is based on that of Colonel Silver from Dragon Ball, and his Zoan transformation is described to look like Sharptooth from The Land Before Time.
  • Spotting the Thread:
    • Malice is the only one to be Properly Paranoid over Yamato not challenging her father once a week and suddenly taking food enough for two people all the time up to her room, even if he is Entertainingly Wrong in his assumption that Yamato found a paramour she's hiding. He's also the only member of the Beast Pirates to figure out that a disguised Izuku very much does not belong there, though he keeps it to himself for selfish reasons, which backfires on him later.
    • When he hears about what happened to the Finalem Pirates, he takes note that the "mysterious warriors" who helped the Marines fight them off are not described in any way whatsoever. This raises his suspicion, and after he reports it, Kaido decides to send someone to Doyle to gather information.
  • Stalker without a Crush: Malice is the first to notice something off about Yamato's behavior and starts snooping around to figure out what it is. The other Beast Pirates, though, think Malice has a crush on Yamato and dismiss his concerns, much to his frustration and their detriment when he reveals this information to Kaido.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Of X Drake, who has yet to join the Beast Pirates (much less the Flying Six) at this point in time. Both were Marines prior to joining Kaido and both have ancient Zoans based on major therapods.
  • Token Human: Kaido mentions that Malice is the only member of the Flying Six that has no oni blood within him.
  • Villain Has a Point: His condemnation of the World Government for its sanctimonious hypocrisy is entirely correct. Even Yamato admits to Izuku that Malice is right about them.
  • What the Hell Are You?: Loudly invokes this trope when he learns (the hard way) that Izuku can swim.
  • The Workaholic: He's always focusing on working and keeping tabs on the rest of the crew. Even King thinks he should get a hobby.
  • You Need to Get Laid: His discovery that Yamato is hiding something is mistaken for a crush and among his mocking, Queen tells him to get a girlfriend.

    Ulti

Click here to see her hybrid form
Click here to see her Pachycephalosaurus form
Another member of the Flying Six and older sister to Page One (also a member). She meets Izuku during his attempt to find the key to Yamato's cuffs and instantly falls in love with him, much to his discomfort. Her Devil Fruit allows her to transform into an oversized Pachycephalosaurus.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: She falls hard for Izuku. Unlike most examples, she's far from unattractive, but her bipolar behavior scares the living daylights out of her "boyfriend".
  • Affectionate Nickname: She calls Izuku "Dekyun".
  • Attempted Rape: She had every intention of taking Izuku's virginity whether he liked it or not, and would have done so had Yamato not interfered.
  • Beauty Is Bad: She's certainly pleasant to look at, but is a short-tempered and proud member of the Beast Pirates.
  • Berserk Button: Anything to do with Yamato; Ulti was ready to pick a fight with her even before Yamato clubbed Page One, and the possibility that Yamato might be trying to steal "Dekyun" away from her leads Ulti to go on a palace-destroying rampage and pick fights with Who's Who and King.
  • Big Sister Bully: She assaults her brother regularly, and routinely chases off women he shows interest in right after claiming that she doesn't.
  • Bullying a Dragon: She tries to pick a fight with King after he interrupts her destructive search for Izuku. The All-Star proceeds to knock her out with a single kick.
  • Carry a Big Stick: Like Yamato, she wields a spiked club.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: According to her brother, she chases off any woman he shows interest in—right after proclaiming that she doesn't.
  • Crash-Into Hello: How she meets Izuku; he's not watching where he's going and, due to their height difference, he bumps into her chest-first. Her brother is offended, but she doesn't mind when seeing how “cute" he is.
  • Evil Counterpart: Yamato notes that Ulti is essentially what she could be if she gave up on Oden's ideals and instead surrendered to Kaido's will—strong and beautiful, but completely depraved and selfish.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: She's not exactly popular amongst the Beast Pirates, with those who hear of her crush on "Deku" feeling nothing but pity for him.
  • Hypocritical Heartwarming: She's a terrible older sister to Page One, but she flips out if anyone else abuses him.
  • I'm Taking Him Home With Me!: She immediately goes ga-ga over Izuku's cuteness and abducts him.
  • Insane Troll Logic: She's somehow convinced herself she can talk Kaido down from brutally murdering Izuku if and when they catch him. Page One is less convinced, but Ulti ignores him.
  • It's Personal: She's always hated Yamato (and the feeling is mutual), but Ulti becomes even more obsessed with crushing her after Yamato "steals" Izuku from her.
  • Kick the Dog: When she sees a little girl holding a doll made in Izuku's likeness, Ulti manhandles her and steals it.
  • A Lighter Shade of Black: As noted by her colleagues, Ulti's sexual appetite is borderline (if not outright) rapacious, but whoever catches her fancy has a good chance of surviving a romp with her and coming out more or less physically and mentally intact (assuming they don't piss her off enough to kill them—and since only Yamato thinks this, Ulti may not actually do that), which is considered infinitely more preferable to falling victim to Black Maria's utterly mind-breaking sexual sadism.
  • Love at First Sight: Her attraction towards Izuku begins immediately. She even goes so far as to declare her intent to have babies with him, despite having known him for less than ten minutes at most.
  • The Nicknamer: Ulti likes giving cutesy nicknames to people, such as "Dekyun" to Izuku and "Pay-Pay" to Page One. The other Beast Pirates who don't fear her anger find it incredibly stupid and childish.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Ulti has the personality of a bratty teenage girl and the temper of the most unhinged pirates, swapping between childish tantrums and bloodthirsty rampaging at the drop of a hat.
  • Really Gets Around: Internal monologues from Yamato imply that Ulti is quite libidinous, and that she might kill Izuku after she gets bored with him should she manage to take his chastity. Word of God is that Yamato isn't completely right about this.
  • Rescue Romance: She figures that she can win Izuku's affection by convincing Kaido not to kill him. Her brother knows damned well that Kaido will never do that, but she ignores him.
  • Rhetorical Question Blunder: She sarcastically asks if she chases off any girls Page One shows interest in when he objects to her dating Izuku, to which her brother loudly responds that, yes, she does do that. All the time.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: She goes berserk after Yamato "steals" Izuku from her.
  • Smitten Teenage Girl: She's 18 (thus a year or two older than Izuku), and her behavior when it comes to "romancing" him reflects that.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: She can go from childishly goofy to murderously vicious with the speed of a light switch turning on and off. It's quite unsettling.
  • Villainesses Want Heroes: In case her character description and the above tropes didn't clue you in...
  • Would Hurt a Child: Would manhandle one and steal her doll, to be precise. She only stops one of her subordinates from killing the girl because she figures it isn't worth the effort.

Click here to see his spinosaurus form
Ulti's long-suffering younger brother and a fellow member of the Flying Six, he is constantly annoyed by his sister's childish antics and tries to rein them in, but always fails due to being weaker than her. His Devil Fruit allows him to transform into a Spinosaurus.
  • Brother–Sister Team: He forms this with Ulti, serving as the (comparatively) saner member.
  • Butt-Monkey: He gets beaten up regularly, and is often forced to endure his sister's childish behavior.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: He plays this role towards (you guessed it) his sister, though he's not very good at it due to being the weaker of the two.
  • Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male: The abuse his sister subjects him to is Played for Laughs.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: His sister calls him "Pay-Pay", to his annoyance.
  • Irony: Spinosaurs were borderline crocodilian in nature and very powerful swimmers, and yet Page One will sink like a rock in water just like any Devil Fruit user.
  • Knight Templar Big Brother: Inverted since he's the younger sibling, but Page One flips out when Izuku bumps into Ulti's chest. He doesn't get the chance to act on it, though, as Ulti becomes attracted to Izuku and launches Page One into the ceiling with a single punch.
  • Oh, Crap!: When he sees his sister playing with a doll that resembles Izuku while Kaido is hovering overhead in dragon form, he understandably freaks out.
  • Parental Marriage Veto: A brother variant, but he loudly objects to his sister being in a relationship with Izuku. Initially, it's because Ulti barely knows Izuku and yet is already thinking of marriage; later, it's because Kaido has very clearly marked the boy for death and trying to keep Izuku alive would land Ulti in lava-hot water.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to his sister's red, though he's pretty short-tempered himself.

    Who's-Who

Click here to see his hybrid form
Click here to see his Sabertooth form
A member of the Flying Six whom, like Malice, used to work for the World Government before going rogue—though in his case, it was because he lost an important item that was being transported and was locked up for it. His Devil Fruit allows him to transform into a Sabre-toothed Cat.
  • Affably Evil: He's just as brutal as the rest of the Beast Pirates, but he's pretty chill when off-the-clock.
  • Benevolent Boss: He's on genial terms with his subordinates, who respect him enough to leap to his defense when Ulti comes barging into their lounge looking for Izuku.
  • Cats Are Mean: He can turn into a Smilodon.
  • The Hedonist: Proudly declares that he uses his position to indulge himself.

    Bao Huang
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bao_huang_anime_concept_art_4.png
A young Waiter with a knack for observation and organization, who ends up as King's secretary when he discovers her talents.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Has a real Devil Fruit rather than a SMILE.
  • Affably Evil: Is easily the friendliest member of the Beast Pirates. She only joined up to get out of the orphanage she was living in and isn't really involved in the enslavement of Wano and just makes Kings schedule. That being said, she voices no objection to slavery, and even attacks the Spade Pirates for trying to free them.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: Appears to be an actual child rather than a young woman and is in the Beast Pirate's crew.
  • Badass and Child Duo: Begins to form this dynamic with King, who takes her on as a secretary.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: She is a very excitable child but she can organize both the Beast Pirates schedules and King's office immaculately as the Lunarian notices when he checks up on her.
  • Cheerful Child: Is always bubbly and excitable. This attitude annoys King, but he tolerates it because she's good at her job.
  • Children Are Innocent: Bao Huang is young and doesn't seem to fully grasp that the Beast Pirates are brutal slavers and criminals who also indulge in drinking and hard drug usage (mistaking what is implied to be cocaine for sugar), and thus are not a crowd she should be around.
  • Just Here for the Free Snacks: The only reason Bao Huang joined the Beast Pirates was so she could eat all the sweets and candy she could get her hands on. She's otherwise ignorant of what the Beast Pirates are really all about and mostly focuses to the duty roster and performing secretarial duties for King.
  • Sweet Tooth: Bao Huang loves sweets and joined the Beast Pirates solely to get treats she couldn't at the orphanage she was living in. She ends up eating her Devil Fruit when King promises her cookies but only provides a bag of rice crackers (in his defense, he was in a hurry to report Yamato's escape).

Whitebeard Pirates

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/whitebeard_pirates.png
A large crew of pirates led by the mighty Edward "Whitebeard" Newgate, the Whitebeard Pirates have a small empire of well maintained and protected islands centered around the island of Sphinx, Whitebeard's homeland. Due to their strong affiliation with the Kozuki Clan in general and Oden in particular, they do not hold high regard for the Beast Pirates. After Izuku Midoriya and Yamato arrive on the island and lay out the full extent of Kaido's misdeeds, the Whitebeard Pirates swear revenge and begin planning for war against the Beast Pirates—while also welcoming the duo into their ranks.
  • Badass Crew: They're every bit as formidable as the Beast Pirates, and are planning for war against them after learning what they did to their brother Oden and his family.
  • Badass Family: Unlike many pirate crews, the Whitebeards operate more like a family unit than anything else; each member considers the others to be their brother or sister, and Whitebeard their beloved "Pops" whom they revere and respect (even after they've left to do their own thing, as Whitey Bay demonstrates).
  • Good Counterpart: To the Beast Pirates; they're still pirates, but they're much friendlier and don't engage in wanton acts of cruelty or slavery.
  • Friendly Pirate: Unlike the cutthroat Might Makes Right environment of the Beast Pirates, the Whitebeard Pirates operate like a tightly-knit family and happily party and joke around with one another.
  • Strong and Skilled: The division commanders combine overwhelming power with frightening technical skill that the thuggish Beast Pirates lack.

    Whitebeard
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/edward_newgate_anime.png
Edward "Whitebeard" Newgate is one of the Four Emperors of the Sea, leader of the Whitebeard Pirates, and the wielder of the Tremor-Tremor Fruit. He is also one of the most benevolent of the Four alongside Shanks, which is why Yamato suggests seeking him out when she and Izuku go on the run. He and Kaido once served together under Rocks D. Xebec, but there is no love lost between them.
  • Awesomeness Is a Force: A master at using Conqueror's Haki, he's able to use it to utterly dispel a monstrous storm that Izuku at 200% was unable to stop or even slow down. Midoriya and all the Vestiges are completely thunderstruck at the casual show of power on his part and it really puts into perspective for them just how powerful The Four Emperors truly are.
  • Big Good: He's the one whom Izuku and Yamato throw their lot in with, giving them protection while intending to help them destroy the Beast Pirates.
  • A Father to His Men: Regards his crew as his children, and they respond with Undying Loyalty towards him. He even offered to have a party in honor of his fallen comrade, Oden, when Yamato told him of his passing, and helps to set up and celebrate a surprise birthday party for Izuku when Yamato asks him.
  • Disappointed in You: While Marco is furious at Izou's abhorrent treatment of both Izuku and Yamato, especially after Melville, Whitebeard is nothing but painfully and utterly heartbroken that Izou could not let his hatred go, even shedding tears of grief and sadly pointing to Izou that not only would Oden have been horrified at Izou's attitude, both him and Toki would have really liked Izuku and Yamato. The utter pain in Whitebeard's voice is honestly incredibly hard to to read.
  • I See Dead People: Like Kaido, he too can sense the vestiges within One For All via Observation Haki.
  • Lensman Arms Race: To prepare for the invasion of Wano, Whitebeard goes to his secret shipyard of Melville and orders five battleships in the same class as the Moby Dick to counter Kaido's own army and SMILE operation.
  • Living Lie Detector: Through the power of Observation Haki, he's able to determine Izuku is telling the truth about his origins, which lets them get down to brass tacks rather than spending several hours debating the truthfulness of the young Hero's claims.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Befitting his role as the active Big Good among the The Four Emperors (Shanks being more of a Heroic Neutral), Whitebeard not only hears Midoriya and Yamato's story with incredible attentiveness, seriousness and makes very clear that he's both very impressed with Izuku's bravery and his good nature but at the same time refuses to blindly trust an admittedly unknown player such as Izuku until all cards are on the table. He's also the kind of captain who always makes sure to listen to the opinion of his men with respect yet refuses to tolerate the more negative aspect said members of his crew have, such as Izou's Fantastic Racism and Sins of the Father mentality against Yamato. He's also a man who thinks about his decision carefully and makes it clear he's aware of their potential repercussion, but as a inherent protector he utterly refuses to leave the innocent to suffer if he can help it and makes it clear that The Beast Pirates are going to pay for their actions. It's no wonder Izuku grows to openly admire him so much.
  • Seen It All: Whitebeard's an old man whose been a pirate in one of the most dangerous and bizarre oceans in all of fiction, so he has seen quite a lot. Upon seeing the Vestiges and learning that Izuku's from another world, he laughs that when he does die he can boast to Roger in the afterlife that he's seen even more than the late King of the Pirates has seen.
  • Secret-Keeper: During Chapter 43, he becomes one of the few people in the One Piece world who learns the fact that Izuku comes from a completely different world.
  • Silver Fox: As far as Nana is concerned. She's deeply appreciate of his musculature and he's amusedly flattered, outright smugly stating that he's "still got it". And to be fair, even in his old age Whitebeard is ruggedly handsome.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: He's utterly enraged by what Kaido did to Oden and intends to seek revenge for his brother.
  • You Are Not Alone: Gives an utterly epic version of this to Izuku and Yamato, befitting his legendary Papa Wolf and Big Good personality.
Whitebeard: So…now we're at two people. Two heads may be better than one, but it's still only two heads. Two of you, against the whole world. No one should live like that, No one should go through this world alone, with nowhere to rest their head in safety. You want to change the world for the better, and you carry upon your shoulders a great burden. To carry on the ideals and wishes of those who came before. One, being my brother. And the other, A single man who brought an era of peace and prosperity all on his own. What you two need is support. A family.
Izuku: (With tears in his eyes) You… you don't mean…
Whitebeard: I will make your dreams come true. (Warm Smile). A dream of a better world. Where all under the sun, can no longer live in fear and terror, but strive for the pursuit of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Izuku, Yamato. Join my crew. And become my son and daughter.
Izuku: "Can we do it though? Can we be Heroes, and Pirates, all at the same time?
Whitebeard: You can. And you will. I know so, Izuku. I will support you and Yamato. That's a promise... What's the saying that All Might fellow said? (chuckles) Yes, I know what it was. I am here.
  • World's Strongest Man: Is widely considered this and served as the rival to Gol D. Roger, the previous owner of the title.

    Marco

Click here to see his hybrid form
Click here to see his phoenix form

Marco the Phoenix, Commander of the First Division of the Whitebeard Pirates and wielder the Bird-Bird Fruit Mythical Model: Phoenix. He is the first full-time Whitebeard Pirate Izuku and Yamato meet, after the two help his wife Patricia with some medical work around the island of Sphinx.

  • Awesomeness by Analysis: He's a quick study in combat, figuring out a weakness in Izuku's use of Fa Jin and neutralizing the Quirk before Izuku can get any more momentum during their training duel.
  • Always Someone Better: Judging by Izuku's internal description, Marco is stronger than All Might.
  • Anger Born of Worry: He wastes little time in berating Izuku for trying to take on the hurricane that was going to reach Melville on his lonesome, especially since he notably wounded himself in trying to do so. As Marco sternly notes, the weather in the New World is absolutely the kind of weather that can chew you up and spit you out if you're not prepared. In he end, he just sighs and smiles warily at Izuku, the narration noting that Marco is treating Izuku as if he were a troublesome child he just couldn't stay mad at.
  • Big Brother Instinct: As the Number Two among The Whitebeard Pirates Marco is incredibly protective of his fellow "siblings", even against members of his own crew. After Melville, Marco is furious at Izou's action's against Yamato and Izuku and wastes absolutely no time in calling him out for all his myopic hatred and utterly disgusting attitude the other pirate has shown towards both Yamato and Izuku, before ending his callout by bitterly stating that the man Izou became in his hatred was not the brother he knew and loved and makes it clear said man consumed by hatred was not welcomed in the ship anymore.
  • Family Man: He's very obviously Happily Married to Patricia (with Patricia taking particular pride in Marco's role as Whitebeard's Number Two), his interactions with Chris show him that he's nothing but a Good Parent even if he cannot always be directly there for his son and he's absolutely loyal to his Family of Choice among The Whitebeard Pirates.
  • Heal It With Fire: Marco's flames have healing properties as well, and he acts as the Whitebeard Pirates' medic when called upon. It also acts as a handy hangover cure when Izuku falls unconscious from one sip of Teach's rum.
  • Nice Guy: He's nothing but charming, encouraging, understanding and empathic to Izuku and Yamato. Yes, he's not someone to cross (something Izuku notes very quickly), but his interaction with Izuku and Yamato demonstrates that he's as much a protector and a Reasonable Authority Figure as Whitebeard.
  • Number Two: Second in command of the Whitebeard Pirates, Marco knows most of the information Whitebeard knows and is let in on Izuku's origins when he reveals them to Whitebeard.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: His spar with Izuku makes it clear the Number Two of the The Whitebeard Pirates is on a completely different level than any enemy Izuku has faced before arriving into the One Piece world. In terms of strength, speed, endurance, stamina and toughness he's so completely out off Izuku's league that he's described as being stronger than All-Might and this was while Marco was holding back as he was just testing Izuku.
  • Secret-Keeper: During Chapter 43, he becomes one of the few people in the One Piece world who learns the fact that Izuku comes from a completely different world. Outside of that, Whitebeard outright implies that as his Number Two Marco is his own most trusted confidant and knows secrets about him that the rest of the crew are not privy to.
  • Taking the Bullet: Marco jumps in front of Izou's gun when he tries to shoot Yamato on Melville. He makes a point of not healing the injury until after Izou has been kicked out of the Whitebeard Pirates.

    Jozu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jozu_anime.png

Third Division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates and one of the main fighters among the crew.

    Thatch
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/thatch_anime.png
Fourth Division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates and the head chef aboard the Moby Dick.

    Izou
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/izo_anime.png
Izou is the former Sixteenth Division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates and a former retainer of the daimyo Kozuki Oden.
  • Black-and-White Insanity: Played for Drama. Due to his past with Kaido and The Emperor's horrifying atrocities against the people of Wano (as well as the Oni Race's dark reputation in Wano), he's both utterly incapable and absolutely unwilling of seeing Yamato as anything else than just as evil as the Oni Race is reputed to be (a reputation that Kaido, Who’s Who, Black Maria, Ulti, and Page One haven’t helped) and considers Izuku to be a vile snake solely for “tricking" everyone into trusting her. This has earned very poignant call outs by Whitebeard, Namur (who bitterly compares Izou's attitude towards Yamato with the racism he has faced as a Fish-Man and is deeply disappointed in his brother for displaying such prejudice on this ship) and Thatch, who recently pointed out that his hateful attitude is quickly earning the disapproval of most of Whitebeard's Crew, especially after the scene he caused in the mess hall. Yet the tragedy of his character is that he utterly refuses to let go of his toxic mentality even when failing to do so gets him kicked out of the Whitebeard Pirates.
  • Berserk Button: Yamato's very existence becomes one for him, but when she compares her actions to what Oden would have done, that is his Rage Breaking Point and he physically attacks her.
  • Fantastic Racism: He views all Oni as nothing but savage beasts who relish in violence and bloodshed, and nearly attacked Yamato on sight and only backed down when Whitebeard intervened(yet this would’ve been partially because of lashing out from the grief of learning Oden’s fate). Later, Izou snaps viciously at Yamato when she tries apologizing for what her father had done to Wano and refuses to drop his hatred for her when Thatch warns him it's getting out of hand.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Izou carries a grudge against the oni for what happened to Wano and to Oden, but as Thatch points out Yamato is about as different from Kaido as one can get and Izou is allowing his past prejudices become toxic towards her and even Izuku. Izou, though, refuses to listen to Thatch and continues to hate Izuku and Yamato.
  • "It" Is Dehumanizing: He barely considers Yamato a person, referring to her as "that thing" or a "cow" several times in his internal monologue, even outright referring her as the former to Thatch when the fourth commander tried reminding him Yamato is family on this ship.
  • Jerkass: Izou has constantly carried nothing but utter resentment and hatred towards Yamato and Izuku despite both being compassionate and altruistic. Even after Thatch warning him he needs to let go of his hatred before his grudge gets out of hand, yet Izou unfortunately refuses to do so, culminating in him physically attacking her when she compares her actions on Melville to what Oden would have done.
  • Never My Fault: He blames Yamato and Izuku for the incident on Melville that left the latter and Marco injured, despite a) instigating the incident by kicking Yamato in the face when she said she was doing what Oden would do, b) pistol-whipping Izuku when he came to Yamato's aid, and c) almost shooting Yamato when she shifts into her hybrid form in response to the attack (Marco takes the shot and knocks Izou out). He continues to blame them for turning the Whitebeard Pirates against him even as Whitebeard dissolves his command and banishes him to Melville as punishment.
  • Rejected Apology: Yamato offered an olive branch to Izou and wanted to make amends for what her father had done to his homeland. Izou (blinded by his hatred for Oni and Kaido) furiously rejects Yamato’s gesture and calls her nothing more than "that monster’s spawn" which not only devastates Yamato from those cruel words but (as Thatch warns him) is putting him at odds with the rest of the crew.
  • Sins of Our Fathers: He has this mentality against Yamato, thinking she is just like her father and puts his hatred against Kaido for killing Oden and his family on the young woman. And despite Whitebeard telling him to keep those thoughts to himself, he still carries great distaste for Yamato despite her benevolent nature and admiration to be like Oden (if anything he probably views the latter as a sick joke or an insult). This hatred even carries over to Izuku who he despises as well for bringing Yamato onto the ship and “tricking" everyone into trusting her.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: Izou feels he can never return to his home in Wano. And after the incident on Melville, he can't return to the Moby Dick either.

    Marshall D. Teach
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1000002711.png
A longtime member of the Whitebeard Pirates who has remained at roughly grunt-level due to (he claims) lack of ambition. Yet there is much more to him that meets the eye...
  • Affably Evil: Teach is genuinely a very personable and friendly guy, so everyone (including Yamato and Izuku) believes him to be an odd but otherwise harmless fellow. Yet beneath his boisterous friendliness lies a much darker element to him and Teach is a dangerous schemer with some wicked plans in motion. While his status as a future Big Bad is something of a Foregone Conclusion, as of now nothing of his jovial attitude towards his fellow crewmates is false.
  • Ambition Is Evil: He claims to lack ambition, which is technically true in that he doesn't aspire to become a Division Commander within the Whitebeard Pirates. But it's also a lie in that his claims hide the fact that his goals go far beyond that.
  • Big Brother Mentor: Teach takes a shine to Izuku and Yamato (especially the former), encouraging both of them to follow their dreams and teaching them about the stars and navigation when they ask. How much of this is genuine and how much is Blackbeard manipulating the situation to learn more about Izuku's powers remains up in the air.
  • Fan Disservice: Izuku has the displeasure of seeing him wearing nothing but a speedo in Chapter 45. Given Teach's appearance, it's not a very pleasant sight to witness.
  • The Hyena: Teach rarely enters or exits a scene without his Signature Laugh.
  • I See Dead People: Sort of; He can't see the Vestiges, but he can sense them within Izuku thanks to his Haki.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite the fact that his role as one of the most dangerous future enemies in The 'Verse is going to be a Foregone Conclusion, the fact that he has absolutely no problem with Yamato being in Whitebeard's ship and every interaction he's had with both her and Izuku has him being nothing but genuinely jovial and friendly towards them means that even the future Big Bad that is Marshall D. Teach does not share Izou's Fantastic Racism. It's also arguable a case of Even Evil Has Standards.
  • Power Misidentification: He initially fears that Izuku's tendrils indicate that the boy ate the Dark-Dark Fruit, and is relieved to learn that this isn't the case. Though that doesn’t make him any less fascinated by the boy, and he does misidentify Izuku as a Split-Personality Team rather than a boy with a Greek Chorus Mind Hive following him around.
  • Split-Personality Team: This story makes the popular theory of Teach having multiple personalities canon, and thus he has at least two personalities working in tandem to achieve his goals- the affable Teach and the malicious Blackbeard. After meeting him and sensing the Vestiges, Teach believes that Izuku has the same deal going on.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Cherry pie, as per canon. He even compliments Yamato on her taste for the stuff.
    • Like any good pirate, Teach loves his rum and has a private stash that he drinks from and doesn't usually share. Him giving some to Izuku for the latter's birthday is treated as a great honor by the other Whitebeard Pirates.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: Izuku's powers and beliefs pique his curiosity given how its not a very common ideology to find in the Grand Line.

Finalem Pirates

    In General
A large pirate crew led by the Finalem Brothers, who had blockaded the kingdom of Doyle in hopes of taking it for themselves.
  • Arc Villain: They are the main obstacles Izuku and Yamato must face during the Kingdom of Doyle arc.
  • Badass Crew: While not in the same league as the Emperors and their crews, the Finalem Pirates are all dangerous criminals with some having bounties in the hundreds of millions. The grunts go down easily enough, but the officers give Sabo, Koala, and Doll a difficult time and both Finalem Brothers are able to match well with Izuku and Yamato during their fights.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: The Brothers fancy themselves Emperors-in-waiting and hoped to use Doyle as a staging point for their big breakout in the New World. However, none of the actual Emperors considered them to be much of a threat, Izuku and Yamato are able to defeat them with some good planning and an ambush, and their nominal ally Jansen Baker was counting on the World Government steamrolling them once they became too troublesome.
  • Starter Villain: The Finalem Pirates are the first independent pirates that Izuku and Yamato must face on their own.

    Finalem Handsome
Co-captain of the Finalem Pirates alongside his brother Bandsome and wielder of the Salt-Salt Fruit, a logia that allows him to turn into and control salt.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Sure, Handsome is a massive goofball, but under that lies the heart of a ruthless pirate leader who will to anything to achieve his goals.
  • Big Brother Bully: It's implied in Bandsome's POV section that Handsome used to bully him before the former got his Devil Fruit powers, leveling the playing field.
  • Laughably Evil: Between his zaniness and bombastic mannerisms, Handsome is bound to create quite a few laughs.
  • Ironic Name: His name is "Handsome", but he's described as an Oda-esque Gonk with a long, pointy nose, a pudgy frame, and freakishly large smile.
  • Shout-Out: Handsome's appearance resembles that of Chef Saltbaker. His Villain Song is a morbid variation on "A Chef's Coda" where Handsome sings about his greed and eagerness to execute his enemies.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Handsome's Salt-Salt Fruit powers leave him highly vulnerable to water (even more so than most Devil Fruit users as it causes his skin to break out in painful welts), something Izuku lampshades and exploits during his fight against Handsome.

    Finalem Bandsome
Co-captain of the Finalem Pirates alongside his brother Handsome and wielder of the Silver-Silver Fruit, a logia that allows him to manipulate mercury.
  • Kill It with Ice: Freezing temperatures are capable of leaving Bandsome vulnerable to attack since it makes him solid. Yamato manages to defeat him by unknowingly awakening her Devil Fruit briefly and firing a blast of ice from her mouth, freezing Bandsome in place to land a Raime Hakke that knocks him out.
  • Poisonous Person: Mercury is toxic especially when heated, and with his Logia powers Bandsome is essentially made of the stuff.
  • Shout-Out: Bandsome's appearance is based on that of Quilge Opie.
  • Wicked Cultured: Bandsome is just as despicable and cruel as his brother, but puts on a more erudite manner and does oil painting as a hobby when not pirating.

Seven Warlords of the Sea

     Bartholomew Kuma
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bartholomew_kuma_anime.png
One of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, "Tyrant" Bartholomew Kuma is feared by many as a notorious pirate and an unerring servant of the World Government. He arrives at Doyle after the defeat of the Finalem Pirates to gather intelligence on the attack, as well as a debriefing of two Revolutionary Army operatives, Sabo and Koala.
  • The Dreaded: The normally unflappable Reichen Bach is visibly nervous when Kuma shows up out of nowhere, and he has a reputation for brutality that earned him the moniker of "Tyrant". Subverted in that while he looks scary, he is perfectly polite and cordial to Bach and his entourage, and Bach internally notes it's better that Kuma visited instead of Doflamingo or Crocodile.
  • Healing Hands: Played with regarding his Paw-Paw Fruit powers- he draws the pain of Koala's broken arm out and absorbs it into himself, but he notes that Koala isn't fully healed and will still need to wear her arm in a sling for a few weeks.
  • Missed Him by That Much: He arrives and leaves while Izuku and Yamato are in another room looking for milk to quench Yamato's taste buds after she ate too much Blazing Inferno Hellfire Sauce, so neither party directly encounters one another.
  • The Mole: Despite ostensibly working for the World Government, Kuma is secretly an operative for the Revolutionary Army and takes time to find Sabo and Koala for a debriefing on their side of the fight in Doyle.
  • The Stoic: Kuma is a stern-faced man whose voice rarely raises above a whisper. When he lets that facade drop, even for a moment, it is a heartwarming moment indeed.
  • So Proud of You: He smiles and tells Sabo and Koala that they did well in acting against the Finalems in Doyle, saying that's exactly what Dragon is looking for among his officer corps.

Heart Pirates

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/heart_pirates_jolly_roger.png
A small crew of rookie pirates from the North Blue based out of Swallow Island, led by captain/doctor Trafalgar Law. They were in the process of disposing of some unwanted invaders to Swallow Island when Izuku and friends arrive, and are just as surprised to see them as Izuku is to see "friendly" pirates.
  • Adaptational Wimp: The Heart Pirates are additional victims of chronology, as they are introduced while still rookies within their Blue Sea- Law can only maintain his Op-Op Fruit powers for five minutes and over a limited area, the other three lack a lot of the combat skills they display in canon, and they don't have the Polar Tang either (instead using a small schooner that can barely fit them and their new guests). They have great potential, though, and they are still hitting well above their perceived weight class due to Law's powers and his temporary alliance with Izuku and his group.
  • Animal Motif: All four are named after animals from cold climates: Law (snow leopard), Bepo (polar bear), Shachi (Killer Whale) and Penguin (penguin).
  • Just Like Robin Hood: The Heart Pirates exclusively target Marines and other pirates in their raids and never kill anyone, instead quickly robbing them of their valuables and weapons before departing. They distribute these stolen goods to the towns under Law's protection, so they might be able to defend themselves when Law heads for the Grand Line.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: As a crew the Hearts are tiny, with only four named members. But thanks to their combat skills and their captain's Reality Warper powers, they can obliterate pirate crews many times their size.

    Trafalgar Law
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/de2dt2b_706fe247_9c1f_449a_94a4_d8b8586590f2.png
Captain of the Heart Pirates and self-proclaimed protector of Swallow Island. Trafalgar Law encounters Izuku and company when they dispose of some pirates the Hearts had just beaten, and Law realizes he's in for a long day...
  • Anti-Hero: Law is no villain and is considered a hero by the locals of Swallow Island, but he's incredibly ruthless and will happily abuse his enemies with his powers. Izuku and Yamato end up comparing him to Bakugou.
  • Creepy Good: Law is not a bad man and freely lends medical aid to those in need, but his preferred method of dealing with enemies is to dice them up with the Op-Op Fruit and then abuse the resulting parts until they surrender. Izuku and Yamato compare him to Bakugou in this regard.
  • Closet Geek: Law may appear as an aloof badass, but he's secretly a comic book geek and keeps his collection in as good of shape as possible (to the point of threatening death upon Izuku and Yamato if they don't use proper bookmarking when they browse his collection).
  • Don't Call Me "Sir": Law quickly tries to drum out formal titles when dealing with Izuku and Yamato, objecting when they call him "Mr. Law" or "Sir".
  • Domain Holder: Law has eaten the Op-Op Fruit, a Paramicia that allows him to project a "room" wherein he has complete control over everything, often using it to dice his opponents into pieces. Since Law is two years younger here than in canon, he can only keep his powers up for about five minutes and there's a significant cool down period, so he can become vulnerable to attacks in the interim.
  • Does Not Like Spam: He hates bread and bread products (waffles and pancakes included). No one has ever figured out why, and he's keen to keep it that way.
  • Hidden Depths: Law may appear as an aloof, ruthless pirate, but he takes great pains to care for people weaker than him and is a major comic book geek in his off hours.
  • I'm Not a Hero, I'm...: Law does not consider himself hero material due to his piratical tendencies and his methods of dealing with his rivals, and is genuinely caught off guard when Yamato insists that he is based off his actions on Swallow Island.
  • One-Man Army: With his Op-Op powers Law can decimate entire pirate crews on his own, leaving his less capable crewmembers to mop up and steal loot without a fight. There are limits as he can only maintain his powers for five minutes, but it's often more than enough to take down most North Blue pirates.
  • Serious Business: Law loves his comic books, and makes is very clear that he will end Izuku and Yamato if they damage his collection and don't use proper bookmarks when he offers to let them read the "Sora, Warrior of the Sea" comics.
  • Spotting the Thread: He quickly tears Izuku and Yamato's cover story to pieces with simple observation and a few pointed questions, though he keeps his revelations to himself so as to not tip them off.
  • Tattooed Crook: Sports a number of tattoos across his arms and hands, though the "crook" part is downplayed in that he only steals from bad guys and gives what he steals to towns under his protection that they might defend themselves when he is gone. Nearly counts as Sigil Spam since several of them look very similar to his Jolly Roger.

    Bepo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bepo_anime.png
A polar bear Mink and navigator for the Heart Pirates.
  • Apologizes a Lot: If someone gets slightly annoyed at anything while he's in earshot, he's quick to say he's sorry and shrink away.
  • Beary Friendly: Bepo is a cuddly Beast Man whom kids love and whom gets along well with his crewmates.
  • Beast Man: He’s a polar bear Mink, originally from Zou but having made a home in the North Blue.
  • Exact Words: Bepo has a habit of following orders to the letter, so when Law tells him to loot the Slinger Pirates' ship of valuables and weapons, he does so... but leaves their cannons and ammunition because Law didn't mention them, almost getting Law killed when the Slingers launch one final attack out of spite.
  • Token Nonhuman: Bepo is the only nonhuman among the Heart Pirates, being a Mink in a region Minks aren't common to.

    Shachi and Penguin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2024_02_22_195101608.png
Shachi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2024_02_22_194953078.png
Penguin

Two members of the Heart Pirates and close associates of Trafalgar Law.

  • Casanova Wannabe: Penguin is a flirt and tries cozying up to Reiju before Law drags him back into line. Unlike Reiju's brothers, Penguin isn't nearly as skeevy and tries to at least put on earnest charm when talking with Reiju.
  • Super Spit: Shachi can spit water projectiles at high speed like a gun, which he uses to great effect against the Marines attacking Tailfeather.
  • Those Two Guys: They largely stick together in the scenes they're in.

Other Pirates

    Whitey Bay
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/whitey_bay_anime_full_body_7.png
A former crew member of Whitebeard's, now with her own subordinate crew under his, and companion of Oden during his travels. Izuku and Yamato end up on an island in her territory after escaping, and interrupt a fight between her and the attacking "Brownbeard".
  • Daddy Had a Good Reason for Abandoning You: Or Mommy in this case as she was a former royal from the Kingdom of Doyle who left her homeland to become a pirate as a member of Whitebeard Pirates and later as their allied captain. She changed her name to Whitey Bay so that the World Government won't connect her with the Reichen family and her son Reichen Bach won't suffer the Sins of Our Fathers.
  • Dressed to Plunder: Her wardrobe certainly screams classical "pirate". It's also very expensive, as Izuku's observations and the Whitebeard Pirates' commentary indicate that she loves to live like an aristocrat despite having shed her noble ties decades ago.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Assumes that Izuku ate the Float-Float fruit after the last bearer died, and Izuku pointedly does not correct her.
  • Friendly Pirate: Protects the island she claims dominance over, and is perfectly civil with Izuku and Yamato after they explain their situation. Pointing out that she isn't that scary, though, is a sore spot for her and leads to her getting into a childish argument with Yamato when the latter brings it up.
  • Rebellious Princess: Her real name is Reichen Bailey, Princess of Doyle and mother of King Reichen Bach. Bay hated the royal life and ran off to become a pirate, returning only to deliver Bach at Whitebeard's insistence.
  • Sharp-Dressed Woman: One of the first things Izuku notices about Whitey Bay is that her clothes are top notch, and her ship is decked out more like a noble's pleasure yacht than a pirate ship. When talking with the Whitebeard Pirates later on, they say that Bay always wanted her and her crew to look their best and could never shed her aristocratic upbringing completely.
  • True Companions: Notes that she considered Oden like her brother in all but blood.
  • Wild Child: Bay admits that she was something of a loose cannon Hard-Drinking Party Girl in her youth, even under Whitebeard, up until her Surprise Pregnancy with Bach.

    Charlotte Galette
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charlotte_galette_anime.png
One of Charlotte "Big Mom" Linlin's daughters, and thus a member of the Big Mom Pirates. She catches sight of Izuku at a bar and initially dubs him cute, but uninteresting. Then Kaido puts a bounty on him, and she figures Izuku might make a good husband...
  • Age-Gap Romance: She's a little over a decade older than Izuku, yet intends to marry him should she encounter him.
  • Beauty Is Bad: Galette is certainly easy on the eyes, but is also one of Charlotte Linlin's kids. Downplayed in that she hasn't done anything particularly bad yet.
  • Death Glare: Her very first interaction with Midoriya is giving him one for looking at her in a bar.
  • Freudian Excuse: Word of God is her aggressive (if not borderline predatory) pursuit of Midoriya is due to having Big Mom as a role model for romance.
  • Has a Type: Likes the Badass Adorable types, given her preference for "cute" things, and the nature of her family necessitating they be strong enough. Izuku just so happens to fit perfectly.
  • Lecherous Licking: She licks her lips hungrily while thinking of taking Izuku for herself.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: She found Izuku cute, but uninteresting when she first laid eyes on him. Then she finds out that Kaido is gunning for him and becomes much more intrigued.

    Rocks D. Xebec
The founder and captain of the Rocks Pirates, of which Whitebeard, Big Mom, and Kaido were members. He died roughly 34 years before the story began, but his legacy continues to cast a shadow over the world.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: He lacked the charisma to get people to join him willingly, so he resorted to threats and force to slap a crew together.
  • Bad Boss: He was a brutal and unforgiving commander, and was all too willing to beat his crew into submission.
  • Eviler than Thou: You know you're bad when even Kaido thinks you're a monster.
  • Hated by All: His entire crew hated his guts, without exception. When he died, Whitebeard, Kaido, and Big Mom cheerfully pissed on his grave (if he even got one) before splitting up.
  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: He threatened to blow up Sphinx if Whitebeard didn't join his crew. Whitebeard got his hands around the guy's throat, but ultimately decided it was too risky and gave in.
  • Posthumous Character: He's been dead for three-and-a-half decades.
  • Predecessor Villain: He certainly left an impact on the surviving members of his crew, with only Whitebeard emerging from the experience without having lost any of his positive traits.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: Not a single member of his crew was remotely loyal to him, and he frequently had to resort to beating them to a pulp to obtain their obedience.
  • The Rival: Viciously competed against Gol D. Roger for the title of King of the Pirates. He lost.

    Breed
A slaver under the indirect employ of Donquixote Doflamingo, who prowls the waters of the New World in search of fresh "merchandise".
  • Asshole Victim: Breed is an annoying, unrepentant slaver who was just about to torture Izuku for his defiance when he had him and Yamato at his mercy. No one is sad to see him go when Thatch kills him.
  • Dies Differently In The Adaptation: In the anime, Breed was made A Twinkle in the Sky during his defeat. Here, Thatch gives him a Neck Snap once he overpowers Breed's attempt at brainwashing him.
  • Oh, Crap!: Has a massive one when, thanks to Thatch's banter, he realizes that by targeting Izuku and Yamato he directly messed with Whitebeard. Of course, he does not get the chance to do anything about it as Thatch wastes no time in getting rid of him permanently.
  • People Puppets: His Pet-Pet Fruit allows him to form green collars that force whoever is struck by them to obey his commands. He snags both Izuku and Yamato with it, but unfortunately for Breed Thatch's willpower and Haki is greater than his mind control.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Thatch snaps his neck after he breaks free of Breed's collars, ending his threat in one scene.

    Squard
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/squard_anime_2.png
A former crewmember of Whitebeard's who, like Whitey Bay, has struck out on his own with a subordinate crew. He is the first of Whitebeard's associates to reach Brew Island following Germa's attack, reporting the massacre back to the Emperor.
  • Animal Motif: Spiders; his crew are the Whirl Spider Pirates, his ship is called the Real Spider, and his BFS is nicknamed "Tarantula". Despite the motif, he's a pretty friendly guy once he lets his guard down.
  • Bait-and-Switch: When he first meets Izuku, Squard appears hostile to the newcomer before changing his tune and happily welcoming Izuku into the family.
  • It's Personal: Squard has fond memories of Brew Island, as it was where he first met Whitebeard in his lowest moment. When he sees that Germa 66 has razed the island, he all but begs Whitebeard to let him at the garrison, and takes great pleasure massacring the Germa forces.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: Squard is not an outstanding New World Pirate, especially not when compared to the Emperors or Whitebeard's division commanders, but he is still a New World Pirate and his crew easily massacre the Germa forces garrisoning Brew Island.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: He takes personal insult to Germa 66 sacking Brew Island, as that's where he first met Whitebeard and he really liked their beer.

     Caribou
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/caribou_anime.png
Captain of the Caribou Pirates, and the first real pirate Izuku and Yamato meet outside of the New World. Caribou tries to throw his weight around upon encountering the duo (and Reiju) on Spider Miles, and quickly finds out he chose the wrong trio to mess with.
  • Butt-Monkey: Nothing goes right for him- his attempts at intimidating the trio fall flat, his idiot brother Coribou keeps interrupting him, Yamato punches him in the face, and then she and Izuku laugh at his measly 5 million Berry bounty.
  • Hyperspace Arsenal: One of his abilities allows him to store weapons and even people inside his body, and he pulls a gatling gun out to try and fight against Yamato. Yamato is much faster and sends him flying off into the distance before he can even use it.
  • Mugging the Monster: He tries to intimidate Izuku, Yamato, and Reiju when they cross paths on Spider Miles. Unfortunately for him, Yamato punches in a much higher weight class than he does, and quickly sends him hurdling over the horizon.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: Caribou is pretty intimidating among the North Blue inhabitants, with a powerful Logia Devil Fruit and a reputation as a Serial Killer. But up against Izuku and Yamato, who come from the New World and have clashed with pirates with bounties tens if not hundreds of times higher than Caribou's, he's chump change and goes down with a few good hits courtesy of Yamato.
  • No-Sell: The only win he does get is that Reiju is unable to hurt him with her Super-Strength because his Logia powers make him invulnerable to physical damage. That's quickly undercut when Yamato hits him with a Haki-infused punch, which does hurt him, quite severely.
  • Swamps Are Evil: Caribou ate the Swamp-Swamp Fruit, a Logia that allows him to turn himself into muddy swamp water. Unfortunately, Yamato's Haki renders any advantage he might have had completely useless in their brief fight.

    Basil Hawkins
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/basil_hawkins_anime.png
A mysterious pirate who approaches Izuku after his "fight" against Caribou.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Hawkins approaches Izuku and asks to read his fortune. While's there's nothing overly threatening about this (and Izuku's Danger Sense isn't triggered either), the young hero cannot help but feel there is something off about Hawkins as the two talk and he ends up just wanting to get away from him when all is done.
  • Expy: Hawkins plays a similar role as Sir Nighteye, a dour fatalist whom Izuku clashes with (albeit much more briefly) over his ability and desire to change fate.
  • Fortune Teller: He's introduced after Izuku and Yamato take down Caribou, offering to read the former's fortune for no other price than he finds Izuku "interesting". Yamato comes in afterwards and pays for her fortune, which Hawkins obliges before departing.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: The "Villain" aspect is ambiguous, but Hawkins is still creepy enough to unsettle Izuku despite not triggering Danger Sense and seems to find something interesting in the young hero.
  • The Unsmile: Hawkins can't smile, yet another thing that creeps Izuku out during their talk.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: Hawkins' world view is based around his devotion to the Arcana, and while one might bend the future he believes it's impossible to truly break it without great consequence. This puts him in contrast with Izuku, who firmly believes fate can be changed and will do so regardless of the outcome.

Wano

    MAJOR SPOILER CHARACTER!!!
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portgas_d_ace_anime.png
A young rookie pirate who wanted to make a name for himself, Portgas D. Ace was the captain of the Spade Pirates who showed up at Wano intending to kill Kaido. The attack failed horribly, with the entire crew being annihilated single-handedly by King. Following the defeat, the survivors were turned into obedient cyborgs by Queen, while Ace himself, recognized as a potential asset due to his Devil Fruit and possession of Conqueror's Haki, was sent to labor in the slave mines with the intent of breaking his will.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: Ace and his crew were able to survive in the New World so far despite having no knowledge of Haki, which surprises Kaido and his All Stars when they interrogate Ace in chains after experiencing his Conqueror's Haki.
  • Always Someone Better: He is subjected to this by King the Wildfire who demonstrated far superior control over fire as a Lunarian and that he can easily bypass Ace's Logia body with Haki.
  • Broken Ace: Quite literally. Ace was the main powerhouse of the Spade Pirates. Now, he's a prisoner of Kaido who's being broken physically and mentally and tragically gave up on his dreams. Chapter 47 suggests that he has regained some of his spirit.
  • Broken Tears: He breaks down sobbing once the full magnitude of what his foolish actions have resulted in crashes down upon him. Queen laughs at this and taunts him for it relentlessly. It happens again in Chapter 60 after Queen reveals that the lobotomization caused Ace's former crewmates to eventually starve to death.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Ace chooses to try and attack the headquarters of an Emperor of the Sea with just his crew and without any real preparations or planning. An extremely cocky idea considering Ace doesn’t even know how to use Haki yet. The only reason they made it even a fraction as far as they did was because Kaido and almost all the Beast Pirates were in Wano searching for Deku and Yamato, and once King showed up the battle was finished very quickly. Even before King showed up, Ace was having a difficult time fighting Spytland Malice who had literally just woken up from a coma and was still recovering from his battle with Deku, highlighting how extremely unready Ace and his crew were.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: King destroys his ship, decimates his crew, and then proceeds to squash him like a bug, with Ace failing to land a single hit on the Lunarian before going down.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: His fight with Queen was never going to end in his favor, but the rage he feels at the deaths of his crew allows him to coat his fist in Armament Haki and deliver a punch to Queen's ear that actually hurts the fat fucker. Even more impressive when you consider that the Beast Pirates had been working him to the bone and Queen had been smacking him around by that point.
  • Defiant Captive: Upon hearing of Izuku and Yamato's escape, seeing Queen having been beaten to a pulp by Kaido, and with Hyogoro offering to train him in Haki, some of Ace's old spirit returns and he begins plotting revenge against the Beast Pirates.
  • Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors: According to Queen, Ace's powers could make him a perfect counter to Admiral Kuzan—giving the Beast Pirates all the more reason to break him and forcibly make him join their ranks.
  • Everybody's Dead, Dave:
    • He doesn't learn that King has attacked his crew until after their ship has been destroyed and said crew has been wiped out.
    • During a rigged "wrestling" match with Queen, the scientist casually reveals that the crewmembers he roboticized are dead, after Ace had been led to believe they were still alive if lobotomized as Queen's "test subjects".
  • Fatal Flaw: A combination of Pride and Wrath; Ace is cocky and doesn't listen well to others' concerns, which leads to him dismissing both Tama and his crew warning him not to go to Onigashima to challenge Kaido and getting a Curb-Stomp Battle for his trouble. Later, he immediately jumps at Queen's taunts despite Hyogoro warning him not to fall for the bait, and gets another beating and Queen rubbing the deaths of his crew in his face on top of everything.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: He sports a massive burn scar across his chest, courtesy of King.
  • Heartbroken Badass: Despite his defiance, Ace has been truly shattered by his defeat and the death of his crew, sobbing in his sleep after he recovers from a beatdown courtesy of Queen.
  • Humble Pie: Freely admits to Hyogoro that attacking Wano was a bad idea and he has no one to blame for the demise of his crew but himself.
  • It's Personal with the Dragon: He may want Kaido dead, but Queen has become the primary focus of his wrath via the fat bastard's gruesome (and ultimately fatal) experiments on his crew.
  • Playing with Fire: He ate the Flame-Flame Fruit which allows him to generate and manipulate fire along with turning his body into flames.
  • Uncanny Family Resemblance: Kaido notes that the look in his eyes rings a bell. It's because Ace is Gol D. Roger's son.
  • Walking Spoiler: The frighteningly altered path in life that he is forced to take compared to canon definitely qualifies him as this.

    Kurozumi Orochi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kurozumi_orochi_anime.png
The current Shogun of Wano, a despicable toad of a man who allied with Kaido to overthrow the rightful ruler of the nation, Kozuki Oden, for his own personal gain.
  • 0% Approval Rating: No one likes Orochi; even his "ally" Kaido sees him as a sniveling little rat, and the only reason he doesn't just kill him is that he needs Orochi to have any legitimacy to his takeover of Wano.
  • Authority in Name Only: Orochi may be Shogun, but it's Kaido that calls the shots in Wano, so when Kaido declares he's going to turn Wano inside out to find Izuku and Yamato all Orochi can do is nod and say yes.
  • Puppet King: Orochi is only Shogun because Kaido allows him to be shogun, which he reminds Orochi by having King put him in a Neck Lift when Orochi tries protesting Kaido commandeering his army to find Izuku and Yamato.
  • The Hedonist: Rather than rule his country, Orochi spends most of his time partying and feasting within his palace, and was in the middle of one such party when Kaido let off his first bout of Unstoppable Rage upon learning of Yamato's escape.
  • The Usurper: Orochi plotted with Kaido to overthrow the Kozuki family and take the throne for himself, ostensibly for revenge for the Kozuki's persecuting his own clan in previous generations.

    Tama
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/o_tama_anime.png
A young girl who lives in the polluted wastes of western Wano with her guardian, Tenguyama Hitetsu/ "Mr. Tengu". She is a direct witness to Kaido's rampages, and thus begins to develop a grudge against those whom she feels responsible for her trauma: Deku and Yamato.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Tama is much more rude and violent than in canon due to the additional trauma she's suffered.
  • Harmful to Minors: Tama's life was hard enough already, but witnessing Kaido's rage at Yamato's escape traumatized her even further.
  • Misplaced Retribution: She blames "Deku" and Yamato for adding to her trauma, unaware of the extent of Kaido's villainy towards them and that they are true heroes.
  • Protectorate: "Mr. Tengu" (actually Kozuki Sukiyaki in disguise) has made it his mission to protect Tama from harm and see to it that she grows up as well as she can given the circumstances.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: The combination of starvation and being at the mercy of the overflow of Kaido's wrath has led Tama to grow increasingly surly and aggressive. Her reaction to Toko scaring away a rabbit she had been hoping to catch for breakfast is to try and stone the younger girl to death in a rage, and she only calms down when she thinks she hurt her caretaker Tenguyama Hitetsu when he restrains her.

    Hyogoro
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hyogoro_anime_concept_art_5.png
An old slave working in the mines in the Udon Region. He meets Ace after the pirate captain is thrown in there to break his spirit, but the old man sees there's still a fire burning within that can be trained for greater things.
  • Cool Old Guy: Besides knowing the best ways to survive the slave mines without being worked to death, Hyogoro also knows a lot about Haki and offers to train Ace so he might become stronger.
  • Old Master: He's almost 70 years old, but he's incredibly street smart and a master with Haki.
  • Parental Substitute: Quietly "adopts" Ace as the two labor in the slave mines, taking Whitebeard's canonical role as Ace's new father figure.

    Toko
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/otoko_9.png
Another young Wano native whom Tama comes to blows with when she scares off a rabbit that Tama had been hoping to catch for food. Toko appears to be a Cheerful Child, but it's quickly made apparent that there is something wrong with her as she won't stop laughing and smiling, even when Tama tries to beat her up.
  • Children Are Innocent: Toko doesn't understand why Tama is so angry with her when she scares off a rabbit the latter was trying to catch, disconnected from much of the pain and suffering Wano is currently facing.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Toko cannot stop smiling and laughing, even when she's crying out in fear at Tama's rage against her.
  • Stepford Smiler: Toko is always smiling, even when she's crying and begging her father to protect her from harm. It isn't revealed in the story, but this is because she ate the leftovers of a bad SMILE fruit and is now suffering the side effects.

Kingdom of Doyle

    Justinian Lawson
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image0_772.jpg
Whitey Bay’s friend that she sends Izuku and Yamato to aid and the Prime Minister of Doyle.

    Reichen Bach
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image0_127.jpg
The King of Doyle and Whitey Bay’s son.
  • Expy: Of Sherlock Holmes.
  • The Good King: He cares deeply about his people, enough that he uses the palace as the place to spring a trap on the Finalem Pirates in the hopes of avoiding as much collateral damage to his citizens as possible. Sabo even mentally notes that he's this trope when he goes to stop three of the Finalem Pirates who escaped the trap from blowing up the gasworks.
  • I Surrender, Suckers: His eventual plan to take out the Finalem pirates amounts to this. He pretends to surrender and invites the pirates to his palace for the formalities, whereupon Izuku and Yamato blindside the Finalem Brothers and the Doyle army takes out the crew. It doesn't work perfectly, and the fight destroys the palace, but it does work.
  • Parental Issues: He has this regarding his mother Whitey Bay who left Doyle to become a pirate and distanced herself from him so that he won't suffer the Sins of Our Fathers treatment from the World Government for being related to her. Of course he is bitter about it which reminds Nana of her deceased son who resented her for leaving him out of his own safety from All For One.
  • Sherlock Scan: Being based on the man himself, he's quite adept at puzzling out information with a quick glance.
    • Manages to deduce that Yamato is from Wano and that Izuku is from nowhere he’s heard of as well as that Izuku can fly mere minutes after meeting them.
    • Figures out the true villain's plan just a few minutes after arriving at the G-12 Base, just from searching through his book shelves and comparing his appearance to that of his more beat up junior officers.

    Jernigan Jenner
A noble from Doyle and the main Conservative leader in Parliament, opposing Lawson's government.
  • Action Politician: With Lawson and Bach acting as bait, it's up to Jenner to lead the charge of the police and regular Doyle military against the Finalem Pirates.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Jenner is so caught off guard by Lawson tanking his own bill to cancel the Midsummer Knight's Festival that all he can do is Spit Take and sit in shock as the vote proceeds.
  • Friendly Enemy: Jenner's opposition to Lawson is just part of the business of politics and he holds no genuine malice against Lawson, and when push comes to shove he's more than ready to take up arms to defend his kingdom.
  • Red Herring: Jenner is introduced as an opportunistic opposition leader hoping to remove Lawson's government from power and take his place, leading to some thoughts that he might have engineered the crisis with the pirates for political reasons. He's completely loyal to the Crown, and it's actually the Marine Commander of the nearby base that's in cahoots with the Finalems.

    Honest Guy
A fox Mink that lives in Doyle. He leads a group of anti-monarchists called the Gunpowder Gang, and while appearing as a normal lowlife he has connections with the Revolutionary Army.
  • Beast Man: A fox mink and all around sleazy guy.
  • Bomb-Throwing Anarchists: Guy presents himself as a legitimate revolutionary, but his disappointing motive and inability to justify his actions leads to Sabo dumping him into the hands of the authorities after Izuku and Yamato send him packing.
  • Didn't Think This Through: As Sabo points out during his "The Reason You Suck" Speech, Guy really didn't plan his attempted overthrow of the government well: his plan put countless innocents at risk, and even if he did manage to succeed in killing Justinian and Bach his group would have no legitimacy and be rightfully seen as violent usurpers.
  • Foil: To Hody Jones. Like Hody, Honest Guy is a would-be usurper trying to overthrow the established monarchy of his home island because of a grudge over past wrongs involving racism. However, unlike Hody, he actually had been on the receiving end of the racism involved, yet he pities the humans who discriminated against him rather than hating them, seeing them as products of a broken system. Also unlike Hody, he does care for the people of Doyle in his own way. Still, like Hody, he’s willing to endanger innocents to get what he wants, and his revolution would not have led anywhere good for Doyle if it had succeeded.
  • Meaningful Name: A fox named "Guy" who leads a group called the Gunpowder Gang who are looking to overthrow a government inspired by the British Monarchy.
  • Revenge Before Reason: He wants to overthrow the monarchy due to the previous king destroying his home in Jansentown. However, Sabo points out that Bach is not his grandfather and is doing his best to be The Good King rather than The Caligula, and Guy's anger at the past is unproductive at best.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Both Sabo and Koala are furious at the fact that Honest Guy seemingly tried to use The Revolutionary Army for his own selfish reasons and Sabo both takes particular dark pleasure in not only sending Guy back to the Hellhole Prison where he was but also wastes no time in pointing out that trying to manipulate Dragon was a deeply stupid idea.

Marines

    Vice-Admiral John Giant
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/john_giant_anime_infobox.png
The Marine Commander of Heavensward and one of the highest ranked officers in the North Blue. John Giant is informed of Germa's search and destroy missions in the North, and suspicious of Judge's motives he orders his forces to deploy and investigate.
  • By-the-Book Cop: John Giant is a Knight Templar in his pursuit of justice, but he also follows protocol and does not take kindly to extrajudicial actions conducted on his watch. When he learns that Germa 66 is on the warpath and killing pirates instead of turning them over to him for proper processing, he grows suspicious and orders his fleet to deploy to find out what Judge is up to.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": A giant named "Giant", in this case.
  • Knight Templar: John Giant is a follower of Absolute Justice, and sees anyone who goes against the World Government as a criminal worthy only to destruction.
  • Large and in Charge: Not only the highest ranking Marine officer in the North Blue, he's one of the biggest being a giant from Elbaf. It's mentioned that Heavensward base needed to be completely redesigned to fit his frame when he took command, and the waste rubble taken from the reconstruction could build a small city.

    Captain/(former) Ensign Doll
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image1_37.png
A young Marine officer assigned to the G-12 Base outside of Doyle, and the only Marine in the attempted counter-attack against the Finalem Pirates to survive and escape to safety.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Justified as Doll is introduced at the beginning of her career in the Marines, four years prior to her canon introduction in One Piece (where she's a Vice-Admiral in charge of her own G-Base and can kick Pacifistas to scrap).
  • Beta Outfit: Doll still wears her Marine cap and has longer hair, less jewelry, and no tattoos compared to her canon appearance.
  • Broken Pedestal: She is heartbroken when she finds out that Commander Baker, who saved her life during the fight with the Finalem Brothers, was actually The Mole.
  • Deadpan Snarker: When she is able to open up she proves to be quite snarky, such as dryly commenting that Izuku might give crossdressing a try because he has the build for it and suggesting he go touch grass when he swoons over seeing Yamato in bloomers.
  • Ensign Newbie: G-12 was her first real deployment as a Marine, and proved to be a true baptism by fire for Doll.
  • Perky Goth: When not stewing in Survivor's Guilt she's quite friendly, and she accessorizes with some Goth items such as a spiked choker and chain jewelry.
  • Rank Up: The newspaper article about the battle of Doyle states she was promoted to Captain for her heroics against the Finalem Pirates.
  • Spare a Messenger: Doll was the only member of the Marines to escape the Finalem Brothers. Turns out this was deliberately engineered by the traitor in the Marine ranks, Baker, in order to sow panic within Doyle.
  • Sole Survivor: She was the only Marine to escape the Finalem Brothers after the failed attempt by the Marines to counterattack.

    Commander Baker (Spoilers)
The commander of the Marine defenses around Doyle who helped Doll escape the Finalem Brothers.
  • Aristocrats Are Evil: Baker's full name is Jansen Baker; the Jansens were a noble family of Doyle who were reviled for their greed and cruelty towards their subjects, and after they were seemingly killed in a fire that burned their holdings to the ground Baker began to plot revenge to overthrow the ruling Reichen family and take the throne of Doyle for himself.
  • Engineered Heroics: His whole gambit with the Finalem Brothers; he allowed them to invade Doyle in the hopes that the pirates would overthrow and kill Reichen Bach and the rest of Doyle's nobility. When the Marines inevitably arrived and defeated the Finalems, Baker would be rewarded with governorship of Doyle for his "heroic resistance" against the pirates, which he would then exploit to get rich off its vast mineral wealth.
  • Entitled to Have You: Directed at a country rather than a person; Baker believes that since the Jansens helped found Doyle and since his family was wiped out by the previous king of Doyle, he is entitled to take the throne for himself. Bach shoots this down by saying the Jansens were universally hated by the population of Doyle for their exploitation of its citizens, and while he cannot excuse the actions of his grandfather that doesn't mean Baker should get the throne by default.
  • Expy: Of Orochi, being the displaced Sole Survivor of a villainous noble house conspiring with pirates to take revenge against the family he sees responsible for his misfortune.
  • Last Episode, New Character: While he is hinted at before, Baker is not fully introduced until the very end of the Doyle arc after the Finalem Brothers are defeated, and his involvement in the plot isn't revealed until then as well.
  • The Man Behind the Man: He's the one that allowed the Finalem Brothers to surprise the G-12 base and begin their siege of Doyle, primarily to overthrow the Reichen family for his own selfish ambitions.
  • The Mole: Baker was working with the Finalem Brothers to overthrow Doyle and take the throne for himself.
  • Motive Rant: Once he's outed by Reichen Bach following the Finalem's defeat, he rants that his family helped found Doyle and given the Reichen family's antagonism towards the Jansens, he is entitled to have Doyle for himself.
  • Walking Spoiler: He's the one who allowed the Finalem Brothers to attack Doyle, and he's a member of the hated Jansen Family (whom were thought wiped out during the destruction of Jansentown years prior).

    Captain Tosa
A Marine captain under John Giant who operates in the North Blue. Tosa is an aggressive fellow who hates piracy in all forms, making him a model Marine.
  • Flat Character: Compared to the more flamboyant Ratel, Tosa has little characterization beyond being an aggressive follower of Absolute Justice. Ratel gets the lion's share of their screen time while Tosa is unceremoniously stopped first by Yamato then bulldozed by Izuku.

    Lieutenant Ratel
A corrupt Marine and Captain Tosa's second in command. Ratel cares not for Justice, instead hoping to pillage Tailfeather for loot and resources to line his own pockets.
  • Annoying Laugh: "Ratititi!" Even his commander Tosa thinks he's annoying and tells him to shut up when he gets too carried away.
  • Dirty Cop: He's as crooked as they come, ordering his men to attack civilians on the made-up claim that they're pirates.
  • Dirty Coward: He likes to throw his weight around when he thinks his victims are helpless, but can't fight worth a damn himself despite being an officer, and will run away if faced with real danger.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Ratel muses that if he were not too injured to fight, he would kill a Germa soldier who spoke to him with less respect that he believes he deserves.
  • Expy: North Blue's answer to Nezumi, being a greedy rat man who cares more for getting rich than actually doing his job as a Marine.
  • Groin Attack: Receives a brutal kick to the crotch, courtesy of Reiju. It was bad enough that she put him in a wheelchair.
  • Kick the Dog: He tries to kill the Mayor of Tailfeather out of petty sadism. When that fails, he directs a Germa Snail Cruiser towards the island in hopes they'll wipe the island out and he can waltz in for hidden pirate loot unopposed afterwards.
  • Knight Templar: Averted. He doesn't give two shits about justice, but he invokes the Absolute Justice doctrine to excuse his misdeeds.
  • Meaningful Name: He is very much a rat.
  • The Stool Pigeon: He gives Germa their first lead on Reiju, though he's under the belief they're looking for Izuku rather than her.

Revolutionary Army

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/revolutionary_army_logo.png
A shadowy force of freedom fighters working to overthrow the corrupt and tyrannical World Government, led by the equally enigmatic Dragon. Izuku and Yamato encounter two of their operatives, Sabo and Koala, during their stay in the nation of Doyle, potentially drawing the attention of yet another powerful faction within the New World.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Revolutionaries they may be, but they have very high standards and won't partner with anyone that does not have a legitimate cause against tyranny. Honest Guy learned this the hard way when Sabo and Koala turn him over to the authorities because his anarchistic approach to Doyle's leadership had no long-term goals beyond satisfying his own anger and frustration, which does not mesh with the Revolutionary Army's plans.
  • Greater-Scope Paragon: The Revolutionary Army seeks the overthrow of the World Nobles and the reformation of the World Government into a more free and fair body politic. Their actions are benevolent, but pointed in a different direction than Izuku and Yamato are heading, so the full scale of their involvement in the world is still an unknown to the two heroes.
  • The Revolution Will Not Be Villified: The Revolutionaries don't let just anyone partner up with them; they have a strict vetting process that sees their operatives make contacts with the local populace and see just how bad and corrupt their potential target is, and only then will they lend support. Sabo quickly kicks Honest Guy to the curb when it becomes clear Guy desires short-term vengeance rather than true freedom, telling him the Revolutionaries do not make a business of knocking over genuinely well-meaning governments just because one or two people don't like them.

    Sabo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sabo_anime.png
An officer within the Revolutionary Army, on assignment to see if Honest Guy's Gunpower Gang would be worthwhile allies to the Revolutionaries. While waiting for his contact, he happens to meet Izuku in a bar, and the two strike up a friendship which brings Izuku to the attention of the Revolutionaries.
  • The Artful Dodger: Not only does he have the look with his long coat and hat, but Sabo has a fairly laid back and self-sufficient approach to life and his missions, spending as much time hanging out in bars and chatting with people as he does actual reviews for the Revolutionaries.
  • Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: Gender inverted; Sabo is fairly laid back and likes to mingle and chat with locals about nothing at all, which irks his more mission-minded and serious partner Koala to no end. There is a method to this, though, as a friendly chat helped cue him in that Izuku was something special and befriending him would be a valuable asset to the Revolutionary Army.
  • Hero of Another Story: Sabo has been with the Revolutionary Army since he was ten and has had plenty of adventures since then, and it was complete coincidence that he ran into Izuku and Yamato while on a mission in the nation of Doyle only tangentially related to the Finalem Pirates.
  • I See Dead People: Downplayed; Sabo cannot see the Vestiges as his Haki is not developed to the same level as Kaido or Whitebeard, but he can sense them through a friendly handshake with Izuku when they first part ways, describing it as if he was shaking hands with more than one person at once. This piques his interest and he begins tailing Izuku and Yamato to see what they can do.
  • Pipe Pain: His signature weapon is a long pipe. Combined with Armament Haki, and he can easily fight off a high-ranking officer of the Finalem Pirates during the battle for Doyle.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Sabo and Koala had been ordered to only observe Doyle and not interfere, but Sabo decides to aid the Doyle Military (specifically Marine Ensign Doll) against the Finalems. Bartholomew Kuma commends Sabo for his actions, as such compassion and decision making is just what the Revolutionary Army needs among its officer corps.

    Koala
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/koala_anime_6.png
A newer member of the Revolutionary Army, fresh out of training and on her first mission for Dragon. As such, Koala is very serious and wants the mission to go perfectly, and is easily exasperated by her partner Sabo's more laissez faire approach to their job.
  • Achey Scars: The Slave Brand on her back aches whenever slavery or branding is brought up. Rather than hinder Koala, it serves to fuel her anger towards her opponent.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Justified; as the story takes place two years before canon One Piece and four years before Koala's introduction as an adult, she is fresh out of training with the Revolutionaries and doesn't have the strength and experience to use Fishman Karate's more advanced techniques, compared to canon where she could and was experienced enough to teach the martial art.
  • Berserk Button: Anything to do with slavery (being a former slave herself), but especially the idea of branding slaves; when her opponent mentions wanting to start the practice with the people of Doyle, Koala immediately jumps to using a Dangerous Forbidden Technique and pulverizes the pirate with extreme prejudice.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk. Unlike Sabo who fights with a weapon, Koala is a brawler trained in Fishman Karate and uses no weapons.
  • Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: Gender inverted; Koala is very serious and conscious about their mission, and so she gets frustrated easily when it appears Sabo isn't taking things seriously.
  • Broke Your Arm Punching Out Cthulhu: Literally; she walks away from the fight in Doyle with a broken arm from using a Dangerous Forbidden Technique to K.O. a Fishwoman.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: Small, cute, and can shatter a Fishwoman's jaw with a single strike when angered.
  • Supernatural Martial Arts: Koala's specialty is in Fishman Karate, a martial art normally used by Fishmen that allows them to augment punches and kicks with water manipulation. During the fight in Doyle, Koala doesn't start to get the better of her opponent (a bull shark Fishwoman) until she finds a sufficiently large puddle to work with.

Germa 66

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2497a45d_db7c_48cb_a628_d647dd8d9c60.png
A powerful organization of arms dealers and mercenaries based out of the North Blue, ruled by Emperor Scientist Vinsmoke Judge. Following the Reverie, they begin to expand into the New World to plunder resources and conquer islands to fuel their war machine.

Yet in doing so, may have unknowingly bitten off more than they could chew…

  • Arc Villain: For the North Blue Saga.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: In the grander scheme of things; Reiju's internal monologue in Chapter 55 reveals that while Judge is free to wage war in the North Blue to his heart's content, the World Government keeps tabs on him and will most certainly act once Judge stops being useful to them or becomes too successful in his conquests (as that might upset the balance of power between the Government, the Warlords, and the Emperors).
  • Bullying a Dragon: The first island Germa 66 attacks is Brew Island whose grog is liked by Whitebeard and the mayor is a personal friend to the Emperor no less. It’s sadly justified as Brew Island wasn't officially part of Whitbeard's territory and didn't have his flag or they wouldn't have dared try anything, but once Whitebeard learns of the Mayor's death and Squard reports Germa's presence the Emperor is eager to jump on the warpath against Germa.
  • Clone Army: Germa 66 makes heavy use of cloned soldiers to fight its wars, supplemented by the four Super-Soldier kids that make up the Vinsmoke Family. Unlike Reiju and her brothers, the clones are seen as fodder and easily disposable assets, with their war machines and equipment being of greater value.
  • Leave No Survivors: Germa 66 does not deal in slavery, so when conquering a territory they will simply genocide the inhabitants and clear the area for their base operations. When Squard attacks Brew Island on Whitebeard's orders to try and save some of the inhabitants, they find no civilians to save.
  • Private Military Contractors: Izuku identifies them as such an organization when reading about Vinsmoke Judge's potential alliance with Doyle; Germa 66 creates and sells weapons and technology for the World Government and other potential clients, and primarily will lend fighting forces as well if the pay is good enough.
  • Slave to PR: Much like a real military branch, the big-wigs have to maintain proper etiquette when dealing with those outside their circle, or they will look bad. Still, cracks appear from time to time.
  • Spiteful Suicide: The Germa clone soldiers are conditioned for total loyalty to the Kingdom, and they will commit suicide rather than be captured by an enemy.
  • This Cannot Be!: For all their talk of being prepared for unforeseen circumstances, all of the Vinsmoke men gawk in bewildered confusion when they learn Reiju has gone missing.

    Vinsmoke Judge
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/judge_anime.png
Patriarch of the Vinsmoke Family and king of Germa 66, Vinsmoke Judge is the leading mind behind Germa's scientific breakthroughs and military success. He returns from an otherwise successful trip to the Reverie to learn that his invasion of Brew Island was wiped out to a man, and more importantly his daughter Reiju has gone missing.
  • A God Am I: His mastery of genetics has given him a god complex, which rears its head as he surveys his lab after arriving from the Reverie.
  • Abusive Parent: Even if one overlooks what happened to his third son, Sanji, Judge shares Kaido's outlook on children behind his "property", and his reaction to hearing Reiju has apparently been kidnapped is a more restrained version of Kaido's meltdown upon Yamato's escape.
  • Big Bad: For the North Blue Saga, being Germa's leader and the sole author of their conquests.
  • Emperor Scientist: Judge is an expert in genetics, having perfected cloning and extensively tinkered with his children to make them superhuman powerhouses. He remains the sole authority over Germa's operations as well, including leading diplomatic overtures at events like the Reverie.
  • Foil: To Kaido. Both are brutal warlords who believe the strong should oppress the weak, but Kaido is a Frontline General who made great conquests all by himself while Judge relied almost exclusively on his army to do the conquering for him; both are terrible fathers who see their children as pawns and use failsafes to keep them from being defiant, but Kaido never outright tried to strip Yamato of her free will, whereas Judge literally programmed his children to obey him; conversely, they have different temperaments, with Kaido having a Hair-Trigger Temper and handling his daughter's disappearance very rashly, whereas Judge was merely flustered but managed to compose himself.
  • Hypocrite: He's a Social Darwinist, but also a coward who stoops to brainwashing to keep his children obedient. He also preaches strength and honesty, but aforementioned brainwashing spits on those claims.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Turns out Brew Island was not his first choice of targets to invade the New World—he had actually intended to set up shop closer to Reverse Mountain, but Jack from the Beast Pirates had already made inroads there. Knowing that he could not fight an Emperor, especially not Kaido, Judge chose Brew Island as a softer target (though he had no idea about Whitebeard's stake in the island).
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Downplayed, but he privately laments that his sons lack any sense of decorum or restraint when it comes to dealing with commoners (though he does little to truly rein them in when their antics get out of hand).

    "Poison Pink" Vinsmoke Reiju
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/reiju_anime.png
The only daughter among the Vinsmoke children, Vinsmoke Reiju acts as a forward scout for her father's armies owing to her more demure and less aggressive approach to dealing with civilians and potential targets. By some twist of fate she ends up being on the same island as Izuku and Yamato when the duo arrives in the North Blue, and under the alias of "Sora" Reiju joins them in an effort to finally slip from her father's grasp.
  • Collector of the Strange: Reiju collects recipes by buying and memorizing cookbooks when her father isn't paying attention. It is one of the few cracks in her facade of a Sociopathic Soldier that she allows to slip through from time to time, a reminder of her younger brother Sanji whom she is shown to still desperately miss.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Her fighting style involves using poison, and—as Lieutenant Ratel can attest—she's not above aiming for the crotch.
  • Defector from Decadence: Reiju hates her father and Germa's expansionist tendencies, but never had an opportunity to run away as Sanji did until she stumbles across Izuku and Yamato camping out on the island she and her crew have stopped at for repairs. One quick talk, and Reiju immediately agrees to join them on their adventures (though she does not know they are gunning for her father).
  • Foil: Similar to Yamato, she's the daughter of a warmongering Social Darwinist whom brutally abuses her, and from whose grasp she wishes to escape. The difference is that Yamato refused to submit to her father's will and escaped via complex planning, whereas Reiju resigned herself to being Judge's weapon until someone (hopefully) could put herself out of her misery and was abruptly whisked away by Izuku and Yamato on a whim.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Reiju projects the image of a cold-hearted Mafia Princess, but deep down she longs for the love of her deceased mother Sora and especially her missing younger brother Sanji, and secretly memorizes recipes to honor her brother’s memory. When beginning the invasion of Brew island, Reiju mentally asks for her mother and Sanji to forgive her as she sails away. And later, she saves Yamato's life by sucking stonefish poison out of her despite it gaining her nothing.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: Deep down, Reiju wants the love and affection she got from her mother Sora, but can't think of any way to break free of her father's grasp. When Izuku and Yamato stumble across her and offer to take her with them, she's overjoyed and genuinely happy for the first time in what is likely years.
  • Power Misidentification: Continuing the trend with Izuku, Reiju assumes his powers come from something within her world rather than from another world. Unlike the others that have mislabeled Izuku's Quirk, Reiju quickly rules out a Devil Fruit and instead guesses it must be technology or genetic manipulation courtesy of Dr. Vegapunk.
  • Poisonous Person: Reiju isn't called "Poison Pink" for nothing- she can both emit and absorb various kinds of poison without suffering any personal injury, as shown when she sucks stonefish poison out of Yamato and compares it to a light salad dressing.
  • Smurfette Principle: She is the only girl of the Vinsmoke Family, with three brothers and a dead mother.
  • Super-Strength: One of the augments that her father gave her was enhanced strength; she notes in her internal monologue that she can snap bone by squeezing too hard, and a Groin Attack from her against Ratel feels like she just shattered his pelvis and leaves him in a wheelchair.
  • White Sheep: Reiju is the only one of the (onscreen) Vinsmokes to have noticeable qualms about Germa's brutal expansionist campaigns, and when an opportunity presents itself to run away she takes it without a second thought.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Reiju stumbles across Yamato and Izuku camping out on an island, and witnesses Yamato get stung by a poisonous stonefish while playing in the surf. She's half tempted to just leave and forget the encounter ever happened, but seeing Izuku's desperation to save Yamato leads Reiju to break cover and help, as it reminds her of Sanji feeding a mouse for no apparent gain.

    "Sparking Red" Vinsmoke Ichiji

The eldest of the three Vinsmoke Brothers, Ichiji acts as the leader of the Vinsmoke Children and is also the closest to a voice of reason among the quartet.
  • The Leader: Ichiji has a commanding aura and is the only one of the three brothers who places stock in rational thinking and pragmatism. Judge's narration notes that even Reiju, despite being the eldest of the siblings, deferred to Ichiji when on mission.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Pulls double duty with his two brothers; Ichiji is the more calm and rational of the three and more willing to speak pragmatically about scenarios Germa finds itself in. He is still a Sociopathic Soldier, so his pragmatism isn't that much of a redeeming trait.

    "Electric Shock Blue" Vinsmoke Niji

The middle of the three Vinsmoke Brothers, Niji is the most impulsive of the three and most likely to fly off the handle at the slightest provocation.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: He flies into a rage at a maid for getting his coffee wrong, despite all of his brothers and his father taking no issue.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Niji expresses disgust at the idea of Minks and humans being allowed to intermarry in Doyle.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Shares the Red role with his brother Yonji against Ichiji- Niji has a short fuse and is quick to get into shouting matches with his brothers, contrasting the more calm and rational Ichiji.

    "Winch Green" Vinsmoke Yonji

The youngest of the three Vinsmoke Brothers, Yonji was tasked with guarding Germa Castle while his father and brothers went to the Reverie and Reiju scouted out Brew Island.
  • Blood Knight: Yonji is the most aggressive of the three brothers, whining that he was stuck doing garrison duty when he could have been leading the invasion of the New World and possibly gotten a good fight against Squard.
  • Casanova Wannabe: A rather dark example, as he aggressively tries to come onto a maid who's (rightly) terrified of what he'll do to her. Thankfully, his brothers tell him to knock it off. He also expresses interest in Mink girls.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Shares the Red role with his brother Niji against Ichiji- Yonji is impulsive and eager to get into fights, and hated his role as guard while his brothers and sister went off on "real" missions.

Elegia

    Uta
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/uta_anime_concept_art.png
The adoptive daughter of Shanks, whom Izuku and Yamato meet after their adventure in Doyle.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: In this story the Sing-Sing Fruit has given her the ability to shatter objects with her voice rather than the Dream Weaver ability she had in One Piece Film: Red. Though given this takes place a couple years before her film debut, it’s very likely that power hasn’t fully developed yet.
  • Mask of Sanity: Averted for now. She’s completely ignorant in her role in causing Elegia’s destruction or even that Shanks and his crew framed themselves in being responsible to secretly protect her when Izuku and Yamato meet her, and so her emotions are more genuine.
  • Rescue Introduction: She becomes so startled at Izuku and Yamato’s presence on the island she accidentally fell off a cliff. Thankfully, Izuku had no problem catching her.
  • Super Drowning Skills: Like any Devil Fruit User, Uta can't swim- even a bath can be dangerous and she expresses envy that Yamato has Izuku to hold her when she bathes while Uta has to make do with sponge baths. Though it’s also possible she’s jealous for another reason as well…
  • The Tease: She gets a kick out of Izuku getting flustered at even the mildest form of flirting.
  • Ship Tease: While it’s too early to tell, it’s clear Uta is attracted to Izuku (being the only person outside Gordon and Shanks she’s met in years and a boy around her age no less). Later during a late night Den Den Mushi call Uta’s crush over Izuku becomes way more obvious as she verbally fantasizes being on Izuku’s own ship where he’s wearing leather pants, holding her closely and getting to see his abs on display. Needless to say, Izuku gets quite flustered at the singer outright flirting with him; even Uta herself ends up blushing once she realizes what she just said out loud.

     Gordon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gordon_anime_infobox_8.png
The former king of Elegia and Uta's caretaker on the island. While he is hospitable to Izuku and Yamato when they stumble across Elegia on their way to meet Whitebeard, he is more suspicious and reserved around them than Uta and holds a number of secrets of his own.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Father: A private, tragic example; Gordon is truly appreciative of Izuku and Yamato arriving and giving Uta some genuine happiness, and he would want nothing more than the two to take Uta away to see the world. However, he feels that she cannot leave Elegia due to the risk of finding out what really happened to the kingdom and her role in it, and once again blames himself for essentially ruining Uta's life out of stubborn pride.
  • It's All My Fault: It's more explicit here than in the film, but Gordon directly blames himself for the destruction of Elegia, since he just left the music that allowed for Tot Musica's release lying around for Uta to find rather than destroying it.
  • Modest Royalty: Even before the destruction of Elegia Gordon did not deck himself out in great finery- the "King" of Elegia was an elected position based on who had the most musical talent, and Gordon was the one that fit that bill before the island was razed.
  • Parental Substitute: Uta's parents seemingly abandoned her after Elegia was destroyed, and Gordon has been raising her ever since. Of course, the audience knows that that's not the truth...
  • The Stool Pigeon: Despite truly wanting Uta to be free of Elegia, Gordon notifies Shanks about Izuku and Yamato's visit while thinking to himself that Uta ultimately cannot leave the island.
  • Walking Spoiler: Much of Gordon's motivation and character is tied to some heavy spoilers from Film: Red, some of which may still impact the trajectory of the story proper.
