As one of the oft-problematic Personal Appearance Tropes, Giant Waist Ribbon's trope-worthiness was called into question by Tropes Needing TRS. Right they were to do so, as the wicks checked by MacronNotes and me at Giant Wick Ribbon brought to light an overwhelming number of "character's outfit has this" examples. Out of 61 examples contained within 50 wicks, we found:

Anime.Go Princess Pretty Cure: Tutu Fancy: As mentioned under Impractically Fancy Outfit, Cure Flora wears a Giant Waist Ribbon reaching almost to her feet with her Cure costume, and also boots with giant flaps coming from both sides, making said costume a real tripping hazard.
Characters.Ace Attorney Wright Anything Agency:
- Part of her medium outfit.
- Part of her medium outfit.
Characters.Charby The Vampirate: Rosita's dress for Charby's party has a large blue ribbon sewn on the back and tied into a large easily visible bow.
Characters.Dame Daffodil: Sports one as Dame Daffodil that resembles a pair of leaves.
Characters.Final Fantasy X Yuna: Her obi, an iconic part of her first character design.
Characters.Higurashi When They Cry Protagonists: Part of her usual outfit.
Characters.Is This A Zombie: The magical girl costume he got from Haruna comes with a big bow at the back of the waist.
Characters.Lightning Legend Daigo No Daibouken:
- Worn on her regular outfit.
- Worn with her green Kimono.
Characters.Ninja Gaiden: Sports one in Sigma II as a Call-Back to her Dead or Alive outfits; one of them also appears in Razor's Edge.
Characters.Overwatch Damage Part 2: It's not on her waist, but her "Luna" and "Chang'e" skins have a big, fancy bow on her canister backpack that evokes this trope.
Characters.Pokemon Trainer Classes: Tutu Fancy: Averted. The worst Grace's costume gets in this regard is a Giant Waist Ribbon.
Characters.Ragnarok Online: The female high priests have a large, white ribbon on their outfits◊.
Characters.Rival Schools: Wears a bright-red one to contrast with her blue dress.
Characters.Rokka Braves Of The Six Flowers: Her dress has a large ribbon at the front of her waist.
Characters.Sengoku Basara Other Characters: Of the thick, purple rope variety, made famous by Naruto.
Characters.Steven Universe Gem Fusions: Morphic Resonance: Opal has Amethyst's purple skin, full lips, and long white hair plus Pearl's height, nose, and overall outfit design, even getting a waist-wrap after Pearl regenerates to correspond to her Giant Waist Ribbon. She also retains Pearl's ballerina-esque fighting style.
Characters.Tales Of Symphonia: She claims it's a tradition of Mizuho, though she's the only one who ever follows it.
Characters.Tekken 3: Only in her introductory 3/Tag outfit.
Characters.The Case Study Of Vanitas: His white coat has a large ribbon on the back.
Characters.Trinity Seven: Her kimono has an obi with a huge ribbon at the back.
DarthWiki.Disaster Duel: The yellow ribbon tied around Tempest's waist is big enough to be visible from a mile away. Well, maybe.
Film.The Last Remake Of Beau Geste: While the ribbon isn't really that exaggeratedly big, Flavia's red-white-and-blue waist ribbon (the colors of the French flag) strikingly accentuates her otherwise all-white evening outfit. She also wears a big black ribbon around her waist to accent a peach-and-black gown.
GlobalGuardiansPBEMUniverse.Tropes A To H: Psychic superhero Oracle combines a bright red Giant Waist Ribbon with a Playboy bunny-esque bustier and fishnet stockings as her crimefighting costume.
JustForFun.RWBY: Lilac Rook's eyes are pale lilac. Her fluffy black hair reaches the bottom of her shoulderblades, unless she's curled it into Regal Ringlets for a formal occasion. She keeps her hair out of her face with a lacy lavender headband. She has a lacy lavender Giant Waist Ribbon that she reserves for formal events. Her usual Minidress of Power and Zipperiffic over-the-knee boots are made of black plates of armor with dark purple fabric in between.
Main.Gold Makes Everything Shiny: Barbie's 1994 Happy Holidays Dress was of simulated gold lamé; trimmed with white fur. Two of Eden's dresses, and the Ghost of Christmas Past's dress, are decorated with gold. Eden's red dress even has a gold Giant Waist Ribbon.
Main.Tutu Fancy
- Senshi outfits are this trope, plus Combat Stilettos and Giant Waist Ribbon.
- Pearl is largely a subversion, as her primary outfit keeps both her hair and skirt too short to tangle. However, her second outfit adds in a knee-length Giant Waist Ribbon.
- Go! Princess Pretty Cure has Cure Flora's costume as a mini-dressed ballgown variant, which incorporates a Giant Waist Ribbon reaching almost to her feet and boots with giant flaps coming from both sides.
PimpedOutDress.Animated Films: Several, most worn by the Eden, the Scrooge-esque protagonist, but some are worn by others. The most prominent dresses in the marketing and covers the red dress Eden wears with the gold brocade on the bodice and gold Giant Waist Ribbon (but worn on the side)
- Her Happy Holidays Dress in is wine colored with the underskirt, bodice, and sleeve ruffles being golden yellow with brocade, has small roses on the sleeves and neckline, and a Giant Waist Ribbon at the back of the waist (that is even bigger in The Merch).
PimpedOutDress.Anime And Manga:
- Crea in Aquarion Evol wears a dress with two layers of black ruffles trimming her skirt, a black jacket and overskirt, and a pink Giant Waist Ribbon.
- Alice even let's Yune wear one of her western style dresses that is orange and white, with loads of frills and ruffles, striped underskirt, yellow petticoat, yellow Giant Waist Ribbon, and has a red jewel holding the ribbon around the neck together (also could be worn with a frilled bonnet or hair bow). But due to the crinoline skirt, poor Yune has trouble moving around in it.
- Kilala's princess dress in Kilala Princess has a long skirt that is open to show several layers of short flounced petticoats, has puff sleeves, ruffles trimming the neckline and down the front of the bodice, a flower and bow worn like a brooch, and a Giant Waist Ribbon.
PimpedOutDress.Comic Books:
- #19, Millie wears a long white dress with a red lace top and skirt lining. Chili wears a short green dress with ruffled hem and a puffy Giant Waist Ribbon.
- Special #20, Katy in a pink dress with a Giant Waist Ribbon on the side and white opera gloves.
- Fashion Book #21, Katy in an orange dress with High-Class Gloves, the excess skirt fabric cut to make a Giant Waist Ribbon, a white petticoat, and strips hanging from the waist of flowers of different colors.
- Katy in a pink dress and the top and Giant Waist Ribbon are of a pink and white bubble pattern.
- The magical girl outfit in Is This A Zombie is pink with loads of ruffles, tiny puff sleeves, and a Giant Waist Ribbon. It's topped off with a pink hat that has two large yellow bows on the sides.
Recap.Furry Fight Chronicles A 1 P 4 C 37 High Bump: Daikarin wears a huge ribbon around her waist as part of her new costume. The ribbon itself is resting on her back.
RedOniBlueOni.Video Games: Catherine: Also, Vincent's girlfriend Katherine is a blue oni and the titular Catherine is a red oni. They even wear the corresponding colours on their outfits (Catherine has a red Giant Waist Ribbon and Katherine has a blue belt).
SailorMoon.Tropes One: Averted (bows are too small to count) until the Frilly Upgrade kicks in.
VideoGame.Castlevania Circle Of The Moon: Camilla wears a pink and red dress with frills trimming the sleeves and neckline, and the skirt made of flowing fabric, that is bunched up in the back that makes it look like a Giant Waist Ribbon.
VideoGame.Love Nikki Dress Up Queen: Wind-Up Key: Though it's partially obscured by a Giant Waist Ribbon, "Eerie Nightmare" suit...
WesternAnimation.Long Way North: Sasha has one on the dress she wears for her debutante ball.
VideoGame.Bayonetta 3: Bayonetta has a big, braided bow completing her new ensemble.

Extra meaning: 3/ 50

Characters.Code Lyoko Lyoko Warriors: Part of the geisha-looking outfit; she uses the big knot to store her Combat Hand Fan.
Characters.Genshin Impact Knights Of Favonius: Downplayed. She sports a large red ribbon holding her Vision gem at her back.
Characters.Gundam Build Fighters: Her Bearguy has a big red ribbon for a backpack. According to the model, it's actually a SEED-style Striker Pack, which means the Bearguy can potentially use any Strikers — maybe even the Universal Booster!

Cut, but also I think we should spin off a "Oversized for Cuteness" trope (Cute Oversized Sleeves would be a Sub-Trope) for when characters wear or are designed wearing oversized items of clothing to emphasize a cute or moe personality. I feel like some of these giant bow examples is trying to get at that concept

There's probably also something about ribbons being decorative and therefore feminine, and around the waist is just a convenient place for an extra-large ribbon.
