Mega Twintails is a trope about characters with unrealistically large pigtails but I am not convinced that huge pigtails on their own is tropable and I feel like particularly cartoonish examples can just be folded into Anime Hair. The description says that trope can take on many meanings but it doesn't list any traits that are unique to the trope that isn't covered by its Super-Trope, Girlish Pigtails.
Me and Yindee conducted a wick check for the trope and here are the results:
- No Flow in CGI: Splatoon averts this, with Inklings' and Octolings' tentacle hair bobbing and bouncing around with every step they take (most impressive with the default Mega Twintails on the girl). Clothing is rather tight and stiff when worn, but special attention is given to the animation of your character's shirt crumpling to the ground after your splatted.
- Anime.Pokemon Heroes: Hypocritical Humor: Annie makes a few jokes about Bianca (actually Latias) and her choice of a hairstyle. Never mind that Annie herself has giant pigtails that are both bigger than her head.
- Characters.Amazing Fantasy Other Villains: La Brava's twintails are big enough to reach past her waist. She had small Girlish Pigtails in school, simply wore her hair down as a shut-in and let it grow long and messy, and then adopted her current hairstyle when she first sought out Gentle.
- Characters.Azur Lane Royal Navy Light Aircraft Carriers: With a pair of tight Ojou Ringlets that could give Nelson a run for her money.
- Characters.Betterman: The specific nature of her hairstyle, in this particular setting, might make it more likely than most examples.
- Characters.Cookie Run Epic Cookies:
- That look like Carrots.
- Their rainbow hair is in two pigtails that reach down to their feet, shaped like a rainbow.
- Characters.Danganronpa 3 Future Arc: Many times thicker than normal twintails.
- Characters.Dragalia Lost NP Cs: Her twintails go down to ankle length and have spiked hairbands.
- Characters.Drifters: no description
- Characters.Epic Battle Fantasy: Some of her hats replace her normal curls with these.
- Characters.Fate Grand Order Arcade Exclusive:
- Her second ascension sports a pair of twintails each as big as her body. How she holds her head up between that and her horns is anyone's guess.
- Characters.Hearthstone Heroes Of Warcraft Alternate Heroes: Standard female Gnome hair.
- Characters.Hololive English Generation Two Council: Sports two of these that reach her shoulders. Her left side is longer than the right.
- Characters.Hololive Japan Generation Three Fantasy: Pekora's hairstyle is immediately recognizable thanks to her braided, two-tone coloured twintails that go down to her waist. Her New year outfit instead compresses them into large buns, while her prisoner outfit features looser, unkempt twintails.
- Characters.Hundred: Her hair is fashioned into two large spirals.
- Characters.Hyperdimension Neptunia Re Birth 1: As Black Sister.
- Characters. The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls Cute Type: Trademark hairstyle. Only two cards deviated from it, because she was playing the movie role of an evil corporate executive.
- Characters.Kan Colle Two: Has low pigtails which are rather long and thick.
- Characters.Megadimension Neptunia VII: In HDD form as Black Sister.
- Characters.Sailor Moon Main Cast: Much wider than most pigtails in the series.
- Characters.Starlit Heroics Nachzehrer:
- just trope name slashed with Ojou Ringlets
- Has large ones rivaling her inspiration, only difference that her hair goes from pink to white at the ends.
- They're absolutely humongous. Although concept art reveals they were originally very thin and stringy in beta pictures.
- Characters.Steven Universe Alternate Future: She has a pair of large hot pink pigtails which are tied in knots resembling the twisted buns of pink pearl.
- Characters.Tenchi Muyo: Her pigtails go all the away down to her feet
- Characters.Variable Geo:
- Picture Sasami Jurai with pink hair and you basically have Manami.
- Princess Curls: Of the mega twin-tailed variety.
- Characters.Vividred Operation: Vivid Yellow has huge, loosely curled twin tails.
- Characters.Vocaloid Other Japanese Producers: Kohaku sports them.
- Characters.Yandere Simulator Main Characters: Hers are very tightly coiled and pinned with red roses. Note however that the developer has openly discussed changing her hairstyle to rectify the Kokona problem described above.
- Funny.Girls Und Panzer Der Film: This conversation between the Anzio girls in their CV 33 during the match.
Carpaccio: Um Duce, your twin tails are in the way.
Pepperoni: Normally this tank is only for two people, now I can't see what's in front!
Anchovy: Then Pepperoni, you get off!
Pepperoni: No way!
Anchovy: Then stop complaining!
Pepperoni: Can't you just take off your wig?
Anchovy: This is not a wig!
Pepperoni: Oh, really?
Anchovy: Ow! - JustForFun.Trope Tan: She sports blue hair with a yellow streak and a pair of mega, girlish pigtails with an Ahoge and Hair Intakes.
- Manga. How Clumsy You Are Miss Ueno: Long orange ones that are sported by Ueno, which start moving whenever she is stressed out.
- Manga.Peter Grill And The Philosophers Time: Vegan's twin-tails reach her waist, as expected from a Tsundere.
- Manga.Saki Shinohayu Dawn Of Age: Worn by Yue.
- Manga.Xxx Holic: commented out without description
- Pantheon.Singers And Performers: It's for these reasons that she also hates The Dazzlings, but she especially dislikes Aria due to their similar hairstyles.
- PimpedOutDress.Video Games: Cecille wears◊ a blue Mini Dress Of Power that has frills trimming almost everything, even her Giant Waist Ribbon. Then there are the large gems on her gauntlets and the clips for her Mega Twintails.
- PlayingWith.Girlish Pigtails: Exaggerated: Summer's pigtails are enormous. She's also a huge Womanchild.
- Recap.Odd Squad S 2 E 22 Haunt Squad Safe House In The Woods: Ozlyn keeps her hair in these.
- UnkemptBeauty.Video Games: Skies of Arcadia: Legends: Aika is what you'd get if you re-imagined Pippi Longstocking as an Air Pirate. Marco even calls her, "Scarecrow Hair", because her massive pigtails look more like corn stalks and stick out like a pair of handlebars.
- VideoGame.Luminous Arc 2: Karen's majestic curling tails dwarf her head.
- VideoGame.Phantom Brave: Regal Ringlets: The Archer unit has this hairstyle. Later games from NIS gave her Mega Twintails, instead.
- WebAnimation.True Loves Story: Hikari.
- WesternAnimation.Angels Friends: Urie commented out
- WesternAnimation.Barbie And The Secret Door: Girlish Pigtails/Mega Twintails: Malucia has a huge pair of purple pigtails.
- WesternAnimation. The Lego Batman Movie: Harley's hairstyle here is her typical pigtails, but they're much larger and in a spiral shape.
- Characters.Fate Grand Order Arcade Exclusive:
- The main notable difference she has from Rama is that, while she has long red hair that reaches her hips just like him, it's styled into a pair of pigtails. In her case they act as Girlish Pigtails, signifying her cutesy and girly mindset compared to Rama's more serious and somewhat smug attitude.
- Devilish Hair Horns: Catherine and her really weird Mega Twintails that just add to her mystery. [[spoiler:For good reason too, as she's a [[SuccubiAndIncubi succubus]].]]
- Moon Rabbit: In Mega Man Star Force, Luna Platz's Mega Twintails are supposed to resemble bunny ears, in a nod to the legend. The third game further references this by giving her a Wizard that looks like a rabbit in a hat. Meaningful Appearance
- Toys.Living Dead Dolls: In accordance with her cutesy Japanese theme, Resurrection Maggot sports this hairstyle.
- Toys.Transformers Bot Bots: Slappyhappy, one of the few obviously female BotBots, has twin pigtails so long they're useful for helping her stand. Her recolor Short Edge has art depicting them as a cape, but the toy still looks like it has giant pigtails.
- '80s Hair: Compare Giant Poofy Sleeves, Mega Twintails, '50s Hair, '60s Hair, '70s Hair, and '90s Hair.
Conclusion
As I said earlier, I don't think Mega Twintails is something that needs its specific trope so I'd suggest disambiguating the trope between Girlish Pigtails, Anime Hair, Improbable Hairstyle and possibly other tropes.Edited by GastonRabbit on Jan 22nd 2023 at 7:06:21 AM
Paging ~MacronNotes to the thread. Anyway, I agree with disambiguating.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I think it's just those three tropes at different mixes, so we can disambig.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupDisambig or merge with Anime Hair.

If we're disambiguating, I'd toss in Meaningful Appearance to capture the ones that fit that small "twintails have significance" category. Scaling up the 10% of the wick check's wicks that were in that category, you'd have approximately 54 "Meaningful" entries.
Vehicle-Based Characterization | Grief-Induced Split | Locker MailPersonally, I think Mega Twintails should be directed to Girlish Pigtails since it's The Same, but More Specific (in the way that they're both describing the pigtail/twintail hairstyle).
Also I would describe the disambig page as "Large pigtails on their own aren't tropable".

I didn't go for redirecting because Girlish Pigtails is about the childish/girlish personality associated with the hairstyle. Mega Twintails is mostly about how improbable or huge the pigtails are which would would fall into Anime Hair or Improbable Hairstyle. We don't want to encourage Girlish Pigtails for any characters with pigtails.

Macron's notesFair enough. Then I vote for a disambig.
Disambig.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?disambig
Looking at the scrunchies that hold the Mega Twintails together, both say "Disambig."
Kirby is awesome.Disambig
It's been three days and there's plenty of consensus, so let's get the disambiguating over with.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. All right, that didn't take long, so here are the wicks.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I think this'll be a nice short cleanup. I already took care of at least a hundred dewicks.
<100 wicks remaining.
Vehicle-Based Characterization | Grief-Induced Split | Locker MailYeah, This'n's done.
Vehicle-Based Characterization | Grief-Induced Split | Locker MailThis was a pretty easy disambig to work with. At least it wasn't as big as Names The Same.
