This actually might come up in my story- well, not cheating precisely, but Nikolai and his wife have been forcibly kept apart for a long time, and when he finally reunites with her, there's going to be a good chance she's... moved on and simply has no interest in picking up their relationship. She's almost 2 centuries old, after all, and he was always way more invested than she was.

If that happened, he would lose it. Cross the Despair Event Horizon and go from somewhat amoral but still reasonably decent guy to a full-on villain who's still nominally on the good guy's side. He's based his life around two things for the last decade, reuniting with his wife and acquiring the power and ability to control his situation he never had as a child and younger man. Without that anchor to his more human side, he's going to slide off pretty easily.

Your character is about to do something that must be done (for the sake of the world, their plans, their family/friends, etc), and there's no good way around it, but there's a pretty good (although not 100%) chance they will die in the attempt. This task or event starts in two hours. What are they doing and how do they feel?

Sir Robert is the ghost of a Knight in Shining Armor who was Barred from the Afterlife once already, but under certain circumstances he could be forcibly sent back to the Afterlife Antechamber. Presumably, Sir Robert is (once again) going to rescue Heather Smith and/or Trixie Doe, only this time the enemy is preparing a Banishing Ritual for Sir Robert. Sir Robert will have finalized his rescue plans already, and he'll be spending the countdown to "go time" pacing around nervously and praying, wondering if he's going to be thrown out of the afterlife this time, and if not, whether he's actually ready to die.

Your characters' home (or transportation for nomads) is on fire. What caused the fire, how bad does the fire get, and do your characters survive to find out what caused the fire?

The fire would be big, and the following characters live in the same household of the Eckstein family:

  • Albert would be saved by his loyal bodyguard, Aethelweard.
  • If the hangar catches fire, Iolana is either banished from the mortal realm, since the Cool Airship that is her Soul Jar is destroyed, or, if she managed to switch the vessel of her soul for something else, her personality is changed, and she'll lose some of her memories.
  • Max's toast, see below.
  • Cecilia's badly burned, but her powers allow her to heal herself quickly enough.
  • Robin's badly burned, too, but the outcome would be the same as with the above.
  • Sa'ad's the surviving type, and would take this opportunity to run away.
  • Karl's already an elderly man, doesn't have the fitness to make a swift escape, so he's probably dead, too.
The reason the fire has started is either because of Max's rare drunken debauchery, or it's the result of the plot by the Eckstein family's many enemies.

Your character finds out they've became a parent for the first time in their life.

Let's assume they are adults.

Orlando would be genuinely surprised. It was his first time being a father to his own son. That is because he is a genius-level scientist with a lot of time to spare.

Armanda would be extremely happy because her son is a mixed-race child as well with mixed-species child (Half-human, half-Lyonan). She would dedicate herself to motherhood as well.

Una would not have a child, but she feels content on not having a child and a motherhood because she is still at tomboy even at this age. After all, she still wants to be the superhero, Zenith with her brother.

Sullivan would be pleasant because he has a daughter. He intends to raise it free from his own universe's government control and free from the brutal soldierhood that he was raised in.

Ramona would be happy because her own daughter is mixed-race (Native American + Caucasian) and she hopes her own daughter shapeshifts like the rest of the Therianthropes.

Your characters are trapped in very deep old abandoned half-filled water well after a stunt gone wrong. At the bottom of the well, it has murky, muddy water that floats up fallen leaves leaves, remains of small animals, muck and other filthy detritus. The well is lined with brick and stones and some rusty ladder rungs on the lining. What's worse there is leeches and lampreys swimming around the water along with something monstrous living underneath while the well cover is locked from the outside. Your characters have to find a way out before they become the creatures new lunch or drown. Describe your character's reactions and their swimsuits.

Varla the mermaid is wearing a sporty bikini top (with a sheathed dagger in Victoria's Secret Compartment) and a belt for her sword's scabbard, both woven from Etroshkan water-spider silk.

It's unlikely that she would have gotten in through the locked hatch on the well, the "stunt gone wrong" is more likely to be her stalking the monster into its lair. In that case, she's already encountered the monster and already knows there's a way out where the underground lake meets the ocean. Just in case she can't hatch a daring plan to make it to that exit, she'll use her microchip communicator to contact the nearest available Web of Friendship members to see if they can open up the well and drop a rope down.

Meanwhile, while she's waiting for rescue, she'll not be content to sit around idle, eating the leeches and lampreys off of herself. She'll have to do precisely that if she's been injured from her previous encounter with the monster. Otherwise, she'll bide her time, brainstorming ways to kill or get past the sea monster and trying the plans one by one until one of three things happen: she dodges past and into the ocean; she kills the monster; or the well opens up as an exit option.

Your characters arrive at the scene of a crashed vehicle. The driver is dead and there's an animal trapped in the wreckage. Everyone else who's already present is more concerned about the dead driver, completely ignoring the trapped, panicking animal.

Wolfe has been first-on-scene at a number of accidents and had to be first responder numerous times. His reaction on seeing the others clearly being more concerned about a clearly dead driver than a living and distressed animal that obviously wants to get out would be to mutter "fucking amateurs" - loud enough so at least the closest would hear.

He would then approach the vehicle, note that the door is warped into the frame and impossible to open, take his pen from his pocket - the nice solid aluminium pen that has a glass-breaker point on the end - and use it to smash the nearest window to allow the animal to escape.

If at all possible, he would attempt to approach and calm the animal once it has got free of the wreckage.

Same.

  • Parthenia would take a note of every detail on the accident site and move on to whatever task she was performing. She'd forget about it the next day.

  • Max would share the bystanders' lack of concern for the animal and would wait for the authorities.

  • Chances are Iolana is the trapped animal. Seeing she doesn't attract much attention to herself, she turns into purple mist and floats away.

Varla the mermaid has a nasty habit of using her sword on guys that she doesn't want flirting with her. She's done this a lot. She might or might not have left a scar on the upset stranger's groin the last time she met him, but she probably left a scar somewhere on his body.

At first Varla would assume the stranger was addressing someone else, as she wouldn't remember the fake name that she gave the stranger. When the stranger makes it obvious he's addressing her, what she'd do next would depend on whether or not there were any witnesses around.

With witnesses around, Varla would pull a Wounded Gazelle Gambit, crying about oh, woe is her, a guy is saying fighting words to a helpless lady in a wheelchair for no good reason.

With no witnesses around, Varla would taunt and verbally emasculate the stranger, saying that if he told anyone that he was beaten by a lady in a wheelchair, they either wouldn't believe him or say he deserved it. But her gloating would never include that he's not the only guy she's attacked, as she wants to keep him quiet and artificially isolated.

  • Farah: halfway through her swordfight sparring practice. She's able to capitalize on that, though, and land a blow on her opponent.
  • Robin: while fixing the Afalina's engine mid-flight. This sneeze prompts her to mess up the repairs, but she quickly corrects the mistake.
  • Cecilia: during her surgery on Sa'ad, who's just returned from an intense fight in the 'pits again. She inadvertently activates her Body Horror powers, but eh, it's not like the man is winning beauty contests soon anyway.

(Just FYI, each of these characters is from a different story.)

  • Brynn has a lot of singing experience, so she'd definitely do that. In fact, being high-class herself, she almost certainly knows a song or two they'd like.
  • Galaxy can do some flashy elemental magic tricks. She just has to be careful not to set anything on fire.
  • Cackles, the trickster that she is, would do whatever came to her mind, all the while looking for an opportunity to escape.

Your character has just acquired superpowers (or lost them, if they're already super). What power would they end up with, and how do they react?

Huh, both gaining and losing superpowers already happened in one of my novel series.

Ella-Maria, founder and original leader of the Web of Friendship, gained the ability to move water and shed and regrow her skin. She constructed a superhero identity called Riversnake. Then she went to Shale for tips on how to maintain the secret identity in the presence of the rest of the telepaths. Shale's solution was to install a second communication microchip, then to go into Ella-Maria's mindscape and start installing elaborate neurovaults. Many adventures happened, and periodically Shale would update the security.

Unfortunately, the side effect of all that tampering caused Riversnake to slowly and gradually take on a life and personality of her own. Eventually, Riversnake and Ella-Maria were put on trial in the intergalactic courts for attempted genocide of an Always Chaotic Evil alien species. Riversnake was found guilty and Ella-Maria was found innocent, so Riversnake was extracted from Ella-Maria. Ella-Maria lost access to the superpowers and moped (for a dozen different reasons at once).

This story planted a seed for Arilay to make a bid for leadership later on, but that is another story.

Afalina's crew is already full of antiheroes, so their counterparts would be pretty dark. The crew and their counterparts from "grayer" to "blacker" shade of morality:

  • Robin is an ordinary and quite temperamental Wrench Wench, so her counterpart is a Fiery Redhead self-built cyborg. Robin's able to incapacitate her.
  • Max's counterpart is what happens if he'd succumb to his bloodthirstiness and fully embrace the warrior culture he was exiled from. Max's defeated.
  • Iolana's counterpart is a Chaotic Evil High Spirit shapeshifter. The outcome of their fight is fittingly decided through a coin toss by Ceallagh.
  • Karl's is a Non-Action Big Bad Evil Mentor to his Cynical Mentor. The counterpart commands the operation. Karl takes the chance to escape the fight.
  • Sa'ad's counterpart shows what he would become if he'd seek sadistic pleasure of hurting others rather than just a thrill of battle. After a brutal fight, Sa'ad wins.
  • Cecilia's counterpart is a full-blown Serial Killer with Body Horror powers she would become if her tendencies weren't checked by her profession. The battle deals a lot of collateral damage, and ends with Mutual Kill.
Your character is put in a position of ultimate authority (depending on the scale, it could be a Mayor, a Head of State, a God). What is the first thing they do?

Now this happens quite a lot in my story, though Monarchs are still restrained by powerful nobles.

Tobias would tour the realm kissing babies as his peasant background and belief in fantasy troupes have him under the impression that this is all the King does.

Nila, I'm assuming this takes place at the start of the story, as other wise it'd just be choices related to the plot. She arranges for her own replacement amongst the Nine Warriors.

Javin would consult with his advisors to see where the Kingdom is and what needs to be done before making any moves.

Serina would abdicate then throw herself an orgy.

April's clone wouldn't freak out, at least not much, since that's the kind of character she is, and the region she lives in is known for weird crap happening. This already happened to Rosalind Lumina Eisenberg. She was infected with vampirism without her knowledge and lost her position as heiress at the funeral. Then between the Van Helsing Hate Crimes exiling her from civilization and the Zombie Apocalypse ruining the finances of pretty much everybody, Rosalind found a niche for herself as a nomadic hermit living in the wild with a herd of mustangs. She's more upset over the Van Helsing Hate Crimes than the fact that she's broke, as she figured out how to find flint and steel rocks and barter them with other survivors very easily.

This is the basis of my primary body of (unwritten) work — a planet being overrun by demons.

Cardinal Noboyuki is currently trying to be a Frontline General on two fronts — one against the demons and one against the elves. He can't be everywhere at once, but wherever he goes, he gives his enemies a fight they'll never forget -- if they survive.

Pemnurg sees this as an opportunity to fire all the guns. All of Them. At once. And he could not be happier.

Tarmo regards this as another really bad day. If he isn't dealing with Pemnurg's antics, he's probably running full tilt away from another demonic invasion. Either that, or he's firing another round of plasma shots at the demons.

Orlando would use his ear muffs to cover his ears in order to hear the agonizing sound of the singer.

Una transforms into Zenith just to beat up the singer who is singing Brunhilde in Richard Wagner's opera. It is because Una thinks she is a better singer than the opera singer who plays Brunhilde.

Sullivan suffers from PTSD flashbacks involving his role in darker activities of his militsry past as a child soldier. It is because he associates the songs with the destruction of the alien species that he slaughtered.

Carmen being a flammable android flies off to somewhere else.

Your characters who are going for a swim stumble themselves in a haunted and cursed living wetland surrounded by peat, dense trees, vines, tall grass and other sinister plants with a opaque dense fog. The wetland's mud is sludge-like and mucky forming a dangerous quicksand-like mire and disguised by the plants and fallen plant matter and the waters is infested with carnivorous fish and tangling weeds. There is ghosts, bog bodies and skeletons that come to life as will with wetland animals being more larger and dangerous. All the plants will move to capture or strangle any living thing, deadly insect swarms as well with tribes of lizard, frog and fishmen that inhabit it. The wetland generally wants to kill your characters so that your characters "will be part of the wetland" no matter what. • Varla (mermaid with issues): Same as always, Groin Attack with her sword.
  • Sarquoql (straight male Mayatan): The reason he hates the mysterious anonymous woman so much is because she can No-Sell his mind-control and make it backfire on him. He'd groan "Oh, No... Not Again!" and try to get inside his spaceship so he can use its interior force fields to cage her long enough to take a cold shower while wondering how to get out of this situation.
  • Salsa (desperate female uplifted squirrel): She'd scream in frustration at the male squirrel's utter lack of sentience, throw a smoke bomb at him, disappear Behind a Stick, and reappear somewhere where she can unleash another Cathartic Scream without anyone hearing her.
