The Goodfeathers
The Goodfeathers are a trio of Italian American pigeons: Squit (gray), Bobby (turquoise), and Pesto (lavender).
Tropes that apply to two or all three of them:
- Aerith and Bob: Unlike the other two, Bobby can be a real name.
- Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: Technically all of them. Squit's greyish brown scheme might be accurate for some pigeons, but he still has green rings around his wing feathers.
- Anthropomorphic Zig-Zag: They are usually Talking Animals, but in "Star Warners" and a few other episodes, they are given more Funny Animal type roles.
- Butt-Monkey: All of them suffer misfortunes while trying to accomplish their goals, though Squit gets the most of it. And the Godpigeon pranks them for kicks, sometimes.
- Expy: Of Henry Hill, Tommy DeVito and Jimmy Conway from GoodFellas, if they were pigeons on a rather risque kids show.
- Feather Fingers: Their wing feathers act like fingers.
- Freudian Trio:
- Superego: Bobby — Laid back & easy-going.
- Id: Pesto — Hot-headed & short-tempered.
- Ego: Squit — Young & reasonable.
- Gleeful and Grumpy Pairing: We have the cheerful and naive Squit and the cranky, short-tempered Pesto. The latter always beats up the former.
- Nice, Mean, and In-Between: Squit (nice), Pesto (mean), Bobby (inbetween). They provide the page image.
- No Celebrities Were Harmed: They are parodies of Robert De Niro (Bobby), Joe Pesci (Pesto) and Ray Liotta (Squit). Mostly based on their roles in GoodFellas, but can also take on aspects of other characters played by those actors, such as Bobby in a parody of Raging Bull.
- Pesky Pigeons: Whether it's finding food, love, or a place to sleep, these three downtrodden doves can't catch a break. The Godpigeon alone has swiped all of the aforementioned from them at least once.
- Toothy Bird: All three have big toothy grins.
- Vitriolic Best Buds: Mostly Squit and Pesto, usually due to Pesto's bad temper.
- Your Size May Vary: While pigeons are much larger than mice in real life, the Goodfeathers are scaled down to be closer to Pinky and the Brain’s height in most group shots.
The leader of the Goodfeathers.
- Beware the Quiet Ones: He's the most stoic of the group and is probably the most level-headed. That being said, Pesto is actually scared of him when he gets serious. Perhaps best shown in "Raging Bird". He's on the verge of losing a boxing match against Prettyboy Robin but the moment he starts flirting with his girlfriend, he breaks him with a single punch.
- Character Catchphrase:
- "The Godpigeon!" whenever the latter shows up.
- "The Godpigeon says..." whenever he translates.
- Expy: Of Jimmy Conway and Robert De Niro in general
- The Leader: Of the Goodfeather pigeons.
- Only Sane Man: When he's not laughing at Pesto, he tends to be the one to keep him and Squit from destroying each other.
- Parody Names: He's based on Robert De Niro.
- Translator Buddy: He translates what the Godpigeon says.
- Tranquil Fury: How he typically deals with Pesto when the latter's Hair-Trigger Temper goes too far. He almost never loses his own temper, but his quiet threats are enough to keep Pesto in line. (See Beware the Quiet Ones.)
A Goodfeather with a very short temper.
- Calling Me a Logarithm: Usually Once an Episode, if he doesn't outright misunderstand the intention, Pesto will interpret a word Squit used as a similar-sounding one he's familiar with. Like when Squit called him "eloquent", Pesto thought he was calling him an elephant.
- Character Catchphrase: "DAT'S IT!" — then he starts fighting with Squit.
- Expy: Of Tommy DeVito and Joe Pesci in general.
- Fat Bastard: He is the chubbiest of the trio and not particularly the most pleasant.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: He gets angry over everything. Speciallty whenever Squit complimetns him, because through any logic he will take it as an insult.
- Jerkass: He has a violent temper and would always beat Squit up.
- Laser-Guided Karma: One short ends with him facing his sister Sasha's wrath, much to both Bobby and Squit's amusement.
- Literal-Minded: He often interprets a compliment by Squit literally as an insult, and starts fighting him.
- Meaningful Name:
- "Pest" fits him pretty well, as the most annoying and troublesome of the Goodfeathers.
- "Pesto" is also an Italian basil sauce.
- In Italian, the verb "pestare" is a common way to say "beat up", and "(io) pesto" literally means "I beat up", which definitely fits the character.
- The Napoleon: The shortest of the trio, and has a Hair-Trigger Temper.
- Parental Bonus: His famous Compliment Backfire scenes are a parody of the "Am I A Clown?" scene from Goodfellas, which kids won't often get. Pesto also does what we thought Tommy was going to do to Ray Liotta until he reveals he was just messing with him.
- Parody Names: Joe Pesci and Tommy DeVito.
- Pintsized Powerhouse: The smallest of the Goodfeathers, but also the most aggressive. In "Mighty Wakko at Bat", he was in the midst of beating up the umpire, a grown man.
- Sir Swears-a-Lot: Or at least the kiddie version of swears since he is based on the infamously foul-mouthed Joe Pesci. Most of his swears are simply enunciating the names of Italian dishes.
The narrator of the shorts, and a cautious and hopeless Goodfeather who's the last to join the trio.
- Ascended Fanboy: "As far back as he can remember" he always wanted to be a Goodfeather, and Bobby and Pesto were his "heroes" before officially joining the group.
- Butt-Monkey: Even Bobby laughs when Pesto beats him up.
- Character Catchphrase:
- "As far back as I can remember...", which starts every episode.
- On episodes which focus on Pesto or Bobby, he uses their name instead.
- Compliment Backfire: A Running Gag between him and Pesto. He always gets beaten up as a result.
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He might not be as shifty and experienced as the other Goodfeathers, but he's still pretty capable.
- Dogged Nice Guy: He once fell for a sparrow named Carloota, only to discover she already had a boyfriend.
- Expy: Of Henry Hill and Ray Liotta in general. He looks less like his human counterpart than Bobby and Pesto look like theirs, but his voice is an impression of Liotta's.
- Innocently Insensitive: He unintentionally offends Pesto when he tries to compliment him. Subverted in that he never really says anything offensive, it's just Pesto who takes everything as an insult.
- Interspecies Romance: With Carloota the sparrow in "West Side Pigeons", which sadly did not last for this very reason. Soon after, he falls in love with a bluejay despite swearing off girls.
- Naïve Newcomer: He becomes a member of the birds in "Goodfeathers: The Beginning".
- Odd Name Out: The only one of the trio who is not named after Goodfellas characters or actors.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Normally, he's a Nice Guy and rarely gets mad, but at the end of "Good Warner Hunting", he's as angry as the other co-stars that Chicken Boo hunted down and mounted, to the point where he's wielding a club.
- Perpetual Smiler: Even when Pesto picks on him.
- The Pollyanna: Even if he's the one who gets the most (undeserved) abuse, he's always the most happy and cheerful of the trio.
- Toothy Bird: The toothiest of the three.
Supporting Characters
The Don of the Goodfeathers enterprise. Typically enters a scene, dispenses some vaguely wise-sounding gibberish, chuckles a little and leaves. Held in very high regard by the other birds.
- The Ace: Usually able to do in a few seconds what the Goodfeathers spent an entire short attempting.
- Big Eater: The first Goodfeathers short even has him swallow a bagel whole.
- The Don: He's a parody of Don Vito Corleone and is modelled after him.
- Eyes Always Shut: His eyes are almost always closed.
- I Kiss Your Foot: The Goodfeathers kiss his feet out of deep respect whenever he shows up.
- Intelligible Unintelligible: Bobby's the only one who understands what the Godpigeon says.
- Leitmotif: Whenever he shows up, the music turns into a Nino Rota-esque accordion and violin theme that wouln't be out of place in an Italian-American mafia movie.
- Mumbling Brando: A given, considering he's a Don Corleone spoof.
- Nightmare Face: The few times he does open his eyes.
- No Celebrities Were Harmed: Marlon Brando's Don Vito Corleone, again.
- Older and Wiser: How the Goodfeathers see him.
- The Prankster: Uses the deep respect the Goodfeathers have towards him to toy with them Just for Fun. They are essentially his Butt Monkeys, although he still genuinely helps them sometimes.
- The Unintelligible: Speaks in elderly-sounding raspy mumble.
- Toothy Bird: Like the Goodfeathers, we can see his teeth.
Sasha (red) is Squit's girlfriend and Pesto's older sister, Kiki (green) is Pesto's girlfriend, and Lana (purple) is Bobby's girlfriend.
- Always a Bigger Fish: Turns out that Sasha pushes her brother Pesto around effortlessly.Pesto: Are you sayin' that I am adorable?!Sasha (bopping him on the head)': Don't start with that, Pesto!
- Brainless Beauty: Kiki, most of the time. Though in "Pigeon on the Roof" she manipulates Pesto into agreeing to marry her through Reverse Psychology.
- Distaff Counterpart: They are female versions of the Goodfeathers. Lana is the quiet, level-headed one like Bobby, Sasha is the angry one like her brother Pesto, and Kiki is the naïve, happy one like Squit. The main difference is that Sasha is more of the leader than Lana. Ironically, only Lana is paired romantically with her own male counterpart, while Sasha and Kiki are paired with each other's.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: Sasha, just like her brother, has a tendency to get explosively angry with little provocation.
- Love Interest: To the Goodfeathers, though they're not afraid to put them in their place either.
- Mrs. Robinson: Sasha is evidently much older than Squit. In "Pigeon on the Roof" he even calls her "Mrs. Robinson" and "middle-aged"... which she doesn't take kindly to.
- Sudden Name Change: Kiki's name is listed as "Molly" in the credits of her debut episode, "Girlfeathers."
- Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: They have eyelashes to show they are girls.

Squit's sparrow love interest in "West Side Pigeons."

- Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: She has eyelashes and a bow in her hair, not only to distinguish from the male sparrows but also the other female sparrows.
- Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: He wears a police officer's cap.
- Cats Are Mean: Sort of. He's a cat and he tries to eat the Goodfeathers, but he's not really such a bad guy.
- Expy: Of Officer Krupke in West Side Story.
- Fat Bastard: Sort of. He's overweight and he tries to eat the Goodfeathers, but it's a bit of a stretch to consider him a bad guy.
- Officer O'Hara: He's portrayed as being like a cop and he speaks in an Irish accent.
A handsome sparrow and Carloota's real Love Interest.
