A
- Ability Mixing: Amity, knowing she can't beat Darius in a fight using abomination magic, beats him by creating glyphs out of abomination goo.
- Aborted Arc: "A Twist in Time" is stated to be the first part of a Story Arc, but ends on a cliffhanger ending showing Luz returning to the Demon Realm to confront Belos after he altered history so that she didn't go there.
- Abuse Mistake: One comic features the Bat Queen assuming Ghost has been heartlessly abandoned when she finds her out in the boiling rain. The truth is that Ghost annoyed Odalia (her owner) who kicked her outside and Amity is absolutely frantic when she realizes it's raining and she's gone; the Bat Queen treats the young witch with suspicion and hostility but when Ghost goes to make sure Amity's okay, she sees how much they love each other and she lets her go home with her new chosen partner.
- Abusive Parents: While Odalia is already this in canon, one comic takes it further by revealing that she would physically harm Amity as punishment for making mistakes like accidentally breaking a vase while playing. In the present day, after she forgets to get something while buying groceries for Luz and Camila, this triggers a bad memory of Odalia, but just as she feels like she's going to be punished, Camila is more than understanding and tells Amity it's okay.
- In another comic Odalia is about to brainwash Amity to be a companion for the Collector.
- Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: All King has to wear is his collar and, if Dana Terrace's artwork is to go by, his skull. Tarak points out that this is not normal.
- Accidental Kiss: This is actually how Luz and Amity's first kiss goes in one comic, as Luz pretends to be a woodpecker as a joke, and while Amity is laughing, their lips accidentally connect in the process.
- Accidental Murder: A confrontation between Luz and the Golden Guard ends in this; Luz messes with Hunter by "cursing him to breathe inward manually", but he ends up killing himself.Luz: (stunned) His blood is on my hands.
- Accidental Proposal:
- While a drunk Eda rants to Puppet Raine, she says she's going to propose to them once they're free, and even goes over some of the things she'll say, unaware that even as a puppet, Raine can hear everything she's saying. Once the Collector frees them, Raine immediately accepts, though it takes a minute for Eda to realize what they mean.
- While Vee, Masha, Luz and Amity are on a double date, Masha compliments Vee's earring, but Vee thinks theirs are cooler. Vee thinks about shapeshifting some, but Masha gives her theirs instead. Vee gets so flustered she facedesks. As Luz explains, in the Demon Realm, when couples want to take their relationship further, they exchange jewelry.Luz: Sooo, what you did was basically the Demon Realm equivalent of...a proposal.
(Masha blushes heavily)
- Accidental Public Confession: As Luz rehearses her attempt to revoke her promise to Camila, she ends up saying it to the real Camila who walked in and Luz assumes was an illusion made by Gus. Luz is shocked when she sees her mother heard everything.
- Accidental Truth: Tibbles poses as a therapist and tells everyone that their problem is "mommy issues", which actually does sum up his first patient Lilith quite nicely (not so much with Luz and Hunter, though).
- Actually Pretty Funny: When Hunter notices that Luz is infiltrating the castle, he makes a joke that causes her to laugh. Unfortunately, this causes the invisibility glyph she was using to wear off, exposing her right in front of him and Belos. Cue her being chased by dozens of guards.Luz: Luz, you fool!
- Adaptation Decay: In-universe. Luz and Amity go off on a frustrated tirade about the live-action Azura movie being unfaithful to the source material, cliched, and Hecate only making a minor cameo.
- Adaptation Expansion: Some comics go deeper into the backstories of certain characters in all the shows, like showing Manny was a firefighter who was implied to have died on the job, while canon left the cause of his death ambiguous, or that Boscha was bullied for being half-demon before becoming a bully herself.
- Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
- Canonically, Amity and Hunter managed to let bygones be bygones after Hunter solidified his Heel–Face Turn, the two being genuine friends as part of the Hexsquad and spending time living with Camila and Luz in the human world. Here, their relationship remains somewhat antagonistic, Amity once threatening him if he ever hurts Luz like he threatened to in "Eclipse Lake", and the two acting more like Vitriolic Best Buds, screwing with each other one moment, having each other's backs the next. This doubles as a Generation Xerox to the comics' depiction of the relationship between Amity's father, Alador, and the closest Hunter has to a guardian outside of Camila, Darius. "Illusion of Choice" hangs a lampshade on it, as while Amity is with the others asking about who Hunter wants to ultimately be adopted by, both his choices, Camila and Darius, would cause her grief since, either way, he'll end up her brother in some form, and she laments already having to deal with one annoying brother via Edric.* In a later comic, Luz even compares Amity and Hunter to a cat and dog respectively.
- The other kids from Cabin 7 are never shown in the series proper to have learned about Vee being a basilisk and Masha doesn't appear to know about Vee's crush on them. Here, all three of them know about her past and she's dating Masha.
- Skara and Viney never had any sort of meaningful relationship in the show beyond the fact that they were both members of the Emerald Entrails. Here, they end up romantically involved and are married as adults.
- While Canon Hunter gets along well with all of the living Nocedas, the only one he has an actual familial relationship with is Luz. Here, he refers to Vee as his sister on at leasts one occasion, and the idea of Camila adopting him is treated as serious possibility.
- Despite King's adoption in "Eda's Requiem", he and Eda are never directly referred to as parent and child at any point in the show. Here, King regularly addresses Eda as "mom" and Eda refers to King as her son.
- Hooty has zero known connection to Grom in canon. Here, it's shown that he and Enna are actually old friends from before she was cursed.
- While Skara presumably knows who Raine is in canon (given that they were the Coven Head for her chosen field of magic), she's not shown to have any particular opinion of them. Here, she's a major Raine fangirl and actually getting the chance to meet them in person causes her to let out an earth shattering Squee.
- Adaptation Species Change: After Ayzee gets a blood test showing that she's somehow more than half human, Amity realizes that one of her great grandmothers was actually a human who ended up in the Demon Realm by accident (though it isn't stated if it was Alador or Odalia's grandmother). Said great grandmother is also none other than Amelia Eearhart.
- Adaptational Badass:
- Camila runs an armored truck off-road and seemingly fights Emperor Belos to a standstill before being disarmed of her chancla.
- Stringbean's shapeshifting abilities are far more varied, letting her turn into pretty much any object she wants so long as she remains roughly the same size. In the show proper, it was strictly limited to different animal forms.'
- Basilisks are shown to have a lot more control over their shapeshifting, with Vee even causally sprouting a third arm from her chest to grab Hunter the remote when her hands are full. In canon, they're only ever shown using their powers for Humanshifting.
- Adaptational Comic Relief: Emperor Belos is far laxer, laid back, and expressive than Belos in Canon, complete with some slight incompetent villain traits. Though like Toffee and Bill, he sometimes proves he can be as dangerous as his canon self if he sets his mind to it.
- Adaptational Explanation:
- "Let's Start with the Basics" shows that Luz began learning how to draw perfect circles from Manny while he was in the hospital.
- Speaking of Manny, another comic explains the reason why Luz and Camila started to give each other flowers after Manny's death: Manny himself would leave flowers on the ground for Luz to find whenever the family went out to the park.
- Adaptational Friendship: One comic depicts a friendship between two girls on the illusion track (the constantly nervious redhead and the one with a tongue for hair). This friendship almost certainly didn't exist in canon given how intra-track relationships were all but non-existant outside of immediate family members.
- Adaptational Jerkass: Unlike Canon Luz, Beta Luz is a delinquent who refuses to help change Eda back from her owl beast form and is willing to let King deal with it on his own, much to his chagrin, and tries to run off. The only thing that stops her is the boiling rain.
- Adaptational Job Change: Amity is shown to have followed in her father's footsteps as a engineer as an adult in the various comics set post series, in contrast to the show where's she's shown ot be some sort of Adventurer Archaeologist.
- Adaptational Nice Guy:
- While Boscha in the show itself is a Barbaric Bully with only some hints at Hidden Depths, Mark tends to depict her as a deeply insecure person who bullies others out of fear. Several comics have her go through the early stages of a Heel Realization.
- Odalia and Alador are given similar treatment in some comics. One even implies Odalia was a victim of Abusive Parents as well.
- Adaptational Sexuality:
- While both Skara and Viney did have some hints towards being LGBTQ+ in the series proper (being Ambiguously Bi and Ambiguously Gay respectively), neither of them ever showed overt interest in girls. Here, they're depicted as a married couple as adults and are Milan's parents.
- Various comics depict Gus, Matt, and Alador as bisexual, with the former two showing interest in each other and the latter dating Darius following his and Odalia's divorce. The actual show never hinted at any of them being anything other than straight.*
- Affectionate Nickname: Willow takes to calling Hunter "Hun" for short without realizing it's also short for "Honey" until Luz explains.
- Afraid of Needles: The Hexsquad is terrified when Camila plans to give them vaccination shots (with Willow even saying "Not the needles!") except for Luz, who is already up to date on her shots. Once Camila announces she's also giving all of them tetanus shots for their wounds, Luz joins the witchlings in shouting a Big "NO!".
- Afterlife Welcome:
- This comic shows Philip and Caleb Wittebane reuniting in the afterlife as Hunter kills Belos once and for all.
- Conversely, this art shows Caleb and all the previous golden Guards about to beat Philip up with assorted weapons.
- Age-Appropriate Angst: Belos' new Golden Guard turned out a bit different, which Belos explains as a mishap in accelerating the aging process. As a result, the new Hunter has hit his rebellious teen phase extremely early and fails to do as his creator asks, stating outright that Belos isn't even his real uncle.
- Alcohol-Induced Idiocy: Seems that Eda can't resist smuggling cheap booze into the Isles during its rebuilding phase, to Lilith's dismay.
- All Animals Are Dogs: After coming to terms with each other, the Owl Beast still appears in Eda's dreams so she can walk it, using the curse's string as a leash. It also displays other dog-like traits alongside this, and Eda ends up more tired overall because of it.
- All for Nothing:
- A heartwarming variant: Amity tires herself out prepping for her first date with Luz. She falls asleep, but Luz simply drapes Amity with her jacket and stays in place to let her rest while she enjoy the embrace.
- Flapjack's motive for finding the rebus was so he could give it to Hunter, he can find the Titan Blood and win everyone's praise, Willow's in particular. Unfortunately, Amity trips and finds the rebus first.
- After helping Hunter get rid of his eyebags, Vee is dismayed when he regains them (and they get worse) after Luz lets him play a new video game that he can't put down.
- When Ghost expressed interest in Amity's salad, the young Blight initially refused to let her partake of it, unsure if a palisman could safely eat it, but then decided to do some research and decided to let Ghost have a little, only for the cat palisman to decide she didn't like the smell and leave, to the girl's irritation.
- All Just a Dream:
- One comic opens with Eda waking up just as Lilith was about to put the curse on her, leading the two to have a heart to heart and her admitting that she was going to forfeit their match. It seems like a What If? right up until Eda admits that she knew was Lilith was about to do and forgives her, at which point Lilith wakes up in the present day and starts crying.
- Discussed in "Last-Minute Predictions", where Selene states Luz's adventures on the Boiling Isles are just a dream the latter is having.Luz: A what now?
Selene: Yeah, that sucks, right? Everything you know is just a figment of your imagination... (cue Wide Eyes and Shrunken Irises) Wait, that means I'm a figment of your imagination, too. But, but... I have a family.
Luz: No no, that's too cliche to be legit.
- The All-Solving Hammer: Vee's friends don't know Belos' weakness, but figure they should use fire because it tends to be fairly effective against everything. It works.
- All Take and No Give: Why Amity ended her friendship with Boscha. Their friendship was almost entirely centered on Boscha, to the point where even she can't remember any time they did something Amity wanted. Boscha seems to have a Heel Realization when Amity points this out.
- Almost Kiss: In "Kiss", after being reassured by Amity that they'll find a way to get back to the Boiling Isles and save everyone, Luz attempts to share a kiss with her, only for Camila to walk in with cocoa tea, prompting them to quickly retract themselves and claim that they're doing nothing.
- Alternate Self:
- Aside from Witch Luz from Witches Among Humans, there are three variants of Luz that shows up in most of his comics:
- "Main" Luz is closest to the one seen in the show, a teenager who ended up on the Boiling Isles and studies glyph magic.
- "Beta" Luz, or Lucia, is a few years older than her main counterpart, wears a jacket and beanie, and wields a baseball bat with glyphs taped to it.
- "Alpha" Luz wears a striped shirt and has darker hair than her counterparts. She's the only version who can cast magic innately without glyphs, and her version of the Boiling Isles is actually Hell, with her Dead All Along.
- "Counterparts" has Luz postulate that there are counterparts of people between Earth and the Boiling Isles, after realizing that Amity and Willow resemble the head cheerleader and one of her classmates back on Earth. Willow in turn mentions there was a witch who looked and acted like Luz, Lusine, that she and Gus knew. Emphasis on was though, as a year prior, Lusine died after drinking soda with Mentos. Luz can only admit that certainly sounds like something she'd do while Amity looks disturbed.
- Aside from Witch Luz from Witches Among Humans, there are three variants of Luz that shows up in most of his comics:
- Alternate Universe: In addition to comics based on the main series, there are several AU's regularly shown:
- The "Alpha" AU, based on the early concept of the Boiling Isles being Hell, and Luz having died before she went there.
- The "Beta" AU, based on an earlier concept for the series where Luz is more of a delinquent.
- Witches Among Humans, a Role Swap AU where Luz is a witch from the Boiling Isles stuck on Earth.
- Amazingly Embarrassing Parents:
- Luz and Amity are unsurprisingly depicted this way, to the point that they prepared a choreographed muscial number for when their daughter asked why she was named Ayzee, not to mention making a lot of inside jokes she doesn't get.
- Boscha, of all people, is shown like this when she puts on a massive light show to cheer for Jay during a grudgby match.
- Ambiguously Gay: More like "Ambiguously Queer, but not stated how". Vee is very excited about wearing a pride pin, but it's not stated where on the LGBT spectrum she falls, though she is presumably sapphic given that she is seen in later strips dating Masha.
- Ambiguously Related: Played with in a legal sense rather that biological one. It's hinted that Hunter ends up adopted by Darius, and Darius is shown dating Alador during the timeframe of the show's epilogue, so it's entirely possible that Ayzee and Pandora are step-cousins and just never mention it on screen.
- An Arm and a Leg: As in canon, Eda and Lilith can voluntarily abuse this, and Lilith uses it to avoid her coven sigil immobilizing her as per Kikimora's spell.
- And Show It to You: Among Hettie's abilities is the ability to perform instant surgery. She does this by doing a Flash Step and producing what appears to be Darius' kidney when he asks. Though they laugh it off when she reveals its not his kidney, he pauses again when she reveals the kidney belongs to some coven scout.
- Anger Born of Worry: When Luz retrieves a particularly dangerous to retrieve ingredient for Eda's elixir, the latter makes clear her displeasure that Luz put herself in such danger, and insists that she at least make sure that she be allowed to tag along on such adventures.
- Animal-Eared Headband: Parodied in post-"For the Future" comics, with Stringbean serving as the cat-themed headband whenever Luz takes her out in public.
- Animal Motifs: Nature's Friendenemies highlights Amity's connection to cats and Hunter's to dogs.
- Animated Actors:
- One of the Owl House comics is set up as a Behind the Scenes video with Tiny Nose as the producer of the show.
- A second comic detailing how the show in question got their cast. Luz could naturally act out her Season 1 self with her Season 3 look being her default, Amity could blush on demand the moment she found out that she is dating a girl, and Eda is just her sassy self.
- Animation Bump: "High Budget Scene" lampshades the instances of this in the show. The characters notice they seem more detailed with Luz thinking it's signaling a "boss fight", while Willow thinks it's preluding a romantic scene like the Lumity kiss. After teasing Hunter and Willow about a potential kiss scene, Luz dismisses a boss fight, noting how weak Belos is now. Belos, in a more detailed monster form than Mark usually draws, cries behind a pillar.
- Annoying Background Event: A call between Camila and Hunter escalates from her scolding the grimwalker for pulling an all-nighter studying and getting Darius to back her up to them approving of/chastising Eda and Raine for robbing a back; it ends up irritating Hunter into going to bed.
- Annoying Younger Sibling: Played With towards Luz and Vee's relationship: they're ecstatic to have this dynamic, but there's confusion as to who's the younger sibling since they don't know Vee's exact age.
- The Apocalypse Brings Out the Best in People: Boscha is shown going through this in strips that focus on post-"King's Tide" Boiling Isles, most prominently seen when she deliberately exposes herself to the Collector in a bid to save Skara's life.
- Apocalyptic Log: One of the coven scouts, who is named Clint, records his experiences in the Emperor's Coven as idyllic. He ends up being the one killed (in the puppet show scene) by Hooty in "Agony of a Witch".Clint's Diary: Dear Diary, ...This is going to be the best day of my life.
- Apologetic Attacker: Luz apologizes and patches up Lilith with the healing glyphs she just made after Lilith scares her with the plant she revived while Luz was sleeping.
- Arc Welding: It's never actually explained in the show how Belos turned into a skeletal goo monster (though it's implied to be the result of either carving a glyph array into his arms or consuming palismen to artifically extend his life). Here, it's a side effect of him concocting a serum from Grom's blood to give himself invunerability.
- Arranged Marriage: Odalia sets one up between Emira and the Golden Guard while trying to end Emira's relationship with Hunter, unaware that they are the same.Emira: Um... actually.
Hunter: (elbowing and whispering to Emira) Wait until the wedding day, that's funnier.
Emira: (whispering back) Good point. - Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking:
- Masha assumes that Vee isn't human from her wide range of demon knowledge, eating ten pounds of ice cream in one sitting and pouring milk before cereal.
- Jacob Hopkins is arrested for a long list of petty crimes such as littering, defacing public property, shoplifting, forging money, tax fraud, spying on the Nocedas, and stepping on the grass in spite of a sign telling him not to. It is highly implied that it was Vee in disguise doing those actions.
- One strip shows Eda, Lilith, and Raine facing Grometheus and seeing their worst fears. Lilith's is disappointing her mother, Raine's is failing to overcome their Stage Fright, and Eda's is not being allowed to drink hard apple blood with her fake ID. The last one leaves Lilith, Raine and even Grom unimpressed.Eda: What?! It's a legit fear!
- Art Imitates Life: Amity loans Luz an Azura fanfiction she wrote that she based off of their friendship and her crush on Luz. A Freudian Slip leads to Luz learning the truth and she heads straight to Amity to embrace her.
- Asshole Victim: Belos really gets what's coming to him in the pre-Season 3 Earth comics. For example, he gets sucked up by a roomba and set on fire.
- Assimilation Backfire: After possessing Luz' body, the Collector also inherits Luz's rather extensive traumas and mental issues, including self-doubt, a need to act reckless to prove he's worthy of love, and a compulsive need to lie about his struggles. The others end up wrapping them in a blanket and giving him something to drink, while also agreeing to have a talk with Luz afterward.
- Awesome, but Impractical: Alador outfits Owlbert with a seat and vehicle parts so Eda's more comfortable on him, but fails to take into account that Owlbert still has to carry all of that plus Eda. When he suggests attaching a jetpack, Eda questions why he bothers attaching the palisman and not just make a flying vehicle.
- Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other:
- Edric and Emira help Amity escape from home and give her a care package so she can stay at the Owl House, even though they brush off the idea that they did it because they care about her.
- This pre-Season 2 comic shows that although their marriage was a built on a business proposal, Alador did have feelings for Odalia when they were young and Odalia did appreciate his anniversary gift.
- Boscha shows that she cares more about her friends and rivals than she lets on.
- When she learns that Amity and Luz are missing and probably dead, she gets a look of absolute shock and horror on her face, collapses to the ground, and spends the entire night reading Amity's favorite book that she had previously made fun of.
- While fighting off a group of Titan Trappers, she refuses to carry Skara who's got a leg injury. When the Collector shows up and spots Skara after she loses her invisibility medal, Boscha exploits a non-existent rule to get the Collector to leave before they do to Skara what they did to Belos. She plays it off as not wanting to bunk with Amelia but Skara thanks her nonetheless for saving her.
- Darius acts casual and professional towards Hunter after he learns that the Hexsquad is alive but when he thinks Hunter's not listening, he cheers and declares he'll destroy Belos for giving the boy his new scars.
- Amity initially has doubts that Alador cared about his kids due to all the time he spent inventing in his workshop. After Gus sets off the security system, Amity disarms it and is touched that the password for it is "Mittens", showing that Alador does care about her.
B
- Back from the Dead:
- This strip set in the Alpha world has an ambiguous case: after being killed by Emperor Belos, Luz seems to return to life with Owlbert (who was destroyed) either supplying her with his magic or possessing her body.
- In a timeline where Luz was petrified, Willow, Gus, and Amity bring her back to life during the moonlight conjuring so they can see her again.
- Badass Bookworm: As in canon, Amity not only knows how to kick butt but also... a lot in general. She even knows how to fix Camila's car when it breaks down, thanks to her father buying books on human engineering from Eda and Alador teaching Amity about the subject, at her behest.
- Badass Normal: Camila is occassionally portrayed as this, but one comic in particular shows Odalia using Oracle magic to predict the outcome of a witches' duel between her and Camila... and the vision shows that Camila will somehow kill Odalia during their duel.
- Bad "Bad Acting": The attempt to help Hunter escape from the Emperor's Coven involves faking his death, with Willow faking anguish over his body, which is "impaled" with a spear that clearly has the shaft bent around his torso, while the blood is clearly ketchup. Kikimora is the only one who sees that it is staged and protests this to Belos (who immediately is looking to create a new grimwalker), Darius (who is crying over Hunter's "demise"), and Raine (who apparently couldn't care less and simply drinks their tea).
- Badly Battered Babysitter:
- Since Alador is too busy to hang out with Darius, he makes Darius watch over baby Amity for a few minutes. Hilarity Ensues.
- As part of a test of Luz and Amity's relationship (likely an attempt by Odalia to break up the young couple), Alador and Odalia task them with babysitting an abomination baby for a week, much to Amity's horror and Luz's delight. Cue them doing all manner of strenuous duties that parents have to do taking care of a baby. By the end of the week, they pass, but have visible Exhausted Eye Bags, ruffled hair, a wide-eyed Thousand-Yard Stare, and can barely hold each other up.
Luz: It... It's okay, we made it. - Bad Future: An example of this is shown in which the one thing stopping Belos from reaching the human realm is removed: Luz's arrival. However, Amity has dreams of her, leading to her and her arranged husband Hunter to research a spell that can alter history, as Luz makes her arrival to stop Belos.
- Bathroom Control: In "Knight of the Kitchen", after Hunter becomes Drunk with Power upon being named "Knight of the Kitchen" by Camila and starts lording it over Amity, she gets even by having herself declared Knight of the Bathroom and holding Hunter up when he needs to use the toilet.
- Batman Gambit:
- To avoid a pop quiz on the fall of Belos, one of Amity's students asks her to teach them about the resistance. Amity knows what he's doing, but falls for it when he asks about Luz.
- Belos tries possessing Willow to force Hunter to kill her or be killed himself; the Hexsquad planned for this and had an abomination stand in for Willow to trick Belos into releasing Raine so Amity could gain control over him.
- Battle in the Center of the Mind: This comic has Raine trying to expel Belos from their mindscape and puppet body. Belos reminds Raine that he's not physically there so their bard magic won't do anything and they can't hurt him in any way. Except maybe killing him with words. Raine proceeds to conjure a trumpet and reenact the "Trumpet Boy" meme to annoy Belos out of them.Raine: DOOT
Belos: (while Raine plays) Hey, stop it. Cut it out. Ugh, this is childish. - Beautiful Dreamer: Parodied. Luz looks absolutely ridiculous after falling asleep in the middle of class, but Amity still finds it beautiful.Gus: Love truly is more powerful than any Illusion Magic.
- Later Played for Laughs when Luz keeps Amity from sleeping all night at a sleepover by constantly moving in her sleep and snoring.Eda: How was the sleepover, girls?
Amity: Everything was great, except for the sleep part.
Luz: I'm so sorry.
- Later Played for Laughs when Luz keeps Amity from sleeping all night at a sleepover by constantly moving in her sleep and snoring.
- Beach Episode:
- Discussed in one comic where everyone goes to the beach for the day, with Luz even saying the trope by name. In addition, she talks about the trope further when several characters unintentionally act out clichés found in beach episodes, like everyone having an excuse to wear a bathing suit (shown through Katya, Amber, and Derwin playing with a beach ball while wearing bathing suits), someone getting hit by a beach ball (shown through Lilith getting hit by the former three's beach ball), people getting buried in the sand in an amusing way (shown through Raine chastizing Eda for accidentally burying Steve's head in the sand while leaving his legs exposed), and ship teasing (shown through Hunter trying to look cool for Willow, who is actually trying to warn him about a shark attack later revealed to be a prank by Hooty wearing a fake shark fin).
- Later on, Amity takes Luz to the beach so she takes a break from doing research on the portal door. She succeeds and Luz manages to relax and enjoy it with her.
- Interestingly downplayed in "To Each Their Own"; while Amity and Willow go to the beach, Luz, Gus, and Hunter stay at the Owl House to play/mess around with the new portal door.
- Be Careful What You Wish For:
- A comic named this has Amity watching Ghost making friends with an Earth cat and saying that maybe she'll learn from them how to be a "real" cat. Sure enough, Ghost begins indulging in all of the negative traits that a regular cat has much to Amity's exasperation.
- After they've been dating for a bit, Azura thinks she and Hecate should stop ignoring her second face. Hecate warns her her second face is creepy, but Azura thinks she can handle it. She is Instantly Proven Wrong.Hecate: Okay, but don't say I didn't warn you.
(Hecate turns her head and Azura moves her hair away)
Second Face: I can feel everything when you kiss the other face.
(Azura pushes the hair back)
Azura: I'm not talking to her again.
Hecate: Told ya. - Since she is a vet, Camila asks Viney to grant her the ability to understand animals for a month. Cue hearing all of their cries of anguish about their various predicaments along with other unneeded information back at the office.
- Because You Were Nice to Me: As a child, Eda found Hooty having accidentally tied himself around a branch, and helped him loose. Years later, Hooty was hunting in the forest outside of the Owl House when he saw a pair of coven guards arriving to arrest Eda. Remembering her from all those years ago, Hooty beat up the guards and made himself at home in the Owl House to protect his friend. Eda can't remember it, and Hooty doesn't intend on saying anything.
- Been There, Shaped History: Hooty somehow is the one behind the myths of the Loch Ness Monster, Bigfoot, how the pyramids and Stonehenge were built and the Bermuda triangle. He's also responsible for the expansion of the universe and the Big Bang, meaning the entire universe was just an extension of Hooty.
- Beethoven Was an Alien Spy: Amelia Earhart's disappearance turns out to have been a result of her somehow ending up in the Demon Realm, where she would eventually remarry and become an ancestor of the Blight family (though whether it's on Alador or Odalia's side isn't specified).
- "Begone" Bribe: Luz pays Vee a dollar to leave their room so she can kiss Amity. When Gus asks how often Luz does this, Vee is shown putting the dollar in an overstuffed Piggy Bank.
- Behavioral Conditioning: Hunter reflexively punches people who pass in front of him as he sleeps in the shins; a few months back, he had trained himself to punch Kikimora in the gut should she try to assassinate him in his sleep.
- The Bet: Betting that Hunter can't keep his poker face on forever, Luz is given a half hour to make him smile. She tries making faces, wet willies, scratching plates, and even putting on a funny movie, none of which even gets a smirk. It seems like Hunter's going to win...only to lose at the literal last second when he smiles and says hi to Willow when she enters the room.
- Big Damn Heroes:
- When Flapjack sees Kikimora about to kill Hunter in his sleep, he sticks a fire glyph on her back so she taps it and is sent flying out the window.
- Just as Odalia is about to brainwash Amity, Luz and Eda jump in to save the latter from her now-deranged mother.
- Birthday Episode:
- This strip takes place on Principal Bump's birthday, with Luz, Willow and Gus planning a Surprise Party for him unaware that he doesn't want to celebrate.
- Implied. Luz, Amity and Eda put together a party to celebrate the day Eda accidentally adopted King.
- This strip has the survivors in the Boiling Isles celebrate Eda's birthday, which she forgot. Back on Earth, Luz somberly does the same alone.
- A few issues and a 7-year flash-forward later, everyone celebrates Luz's 21st birthday.
- This one takes place on Ayzee's 14th birthday, where Gus gifts her with something he invented; an interactive stone, which places her in a real-life RPG.
- Bittersweet Ending: "Grom Factor" ends on one: while Enna has been cured of the Grom curse thanks to Milan splitting it between them, Milan loses her magic as a result. The final issue depicts Milan apologizing to Ayzee for not going along with their plan and telling her she shouldn't take the blame for wanting to impress her parents and they share a kiss. However, Milan's curse acts up and her Grom half puts down Ayzee for messing up and not doing anything right, which makes her tear up.
- Bizarre Alien Biology:
- Because he's a Grimwalker, not only is Hunter able to eat books, he also has a galdorstone for a heart and floats on water like driftwood. When Luz tests Hunter's reflexes during an impromptu checkup, his leg doesn't move when hit, his hair does.
- Apparently, witches purr like cats.
- Palismen are fed like plants; they sit in pots and absorb nutrients from potting mix. They can also eat paper to repair any damage they have.
- Rather than a third eye, Boscha's daughter Jay has a second mouth on the back of her neck.
- Black Comedy: One comic recaps the scene where Eda succumbs to her curse in the format of Chibi Tiny Tales.
- Blackmail:
- Refusing to let Boscha lead the Hexside resistance due to her conspiring with Kikimora, Matt threatens her to give up leadership to him by threatening to show everybody a memory photo that makes it look like she has a crush on him. Unwilling to risk her reputation, Boscha relents and is impressed by how he did her dirty.
- When King asks for a raise in his allowance and Eda refuses because he doesn't do any work to justify even getting an allowance to begin with, King threatens to tell Raine about all the embarrassing things she said regarding them when she got drunk. Eda, instead of being mad, cradles her son, proud of his first blackmail attempt.
- Blind Without 'Em: When a younger Lilith tries to get Eda to join the Emperor's Coven, Eda recalls how Lilith's vision fares poorly without glasses, which Lilith vehemently denies while addressing Eda's shadow instead of Eda herself.
- Blunt "Yes": While Vee recaps a story about her previous life having to eat garbage in the Boiling Isles, Masha asks if she was trying to guilt trip them into sharing their cheesecake. Vee says yes, and Masha just hands the entire slice to her.
- Body Horror:
- Hunter dreams of waking up in the middle of his creation, and conveniently as Belos complains to the Collector about the quality of their selkidomus scales, which acts as synthetic skin. As such, once he looks at his hands, he screams at the sight of a pair of skinless hands. Neither Belos or the Collector pay any mind to Hunter or his screaming, and Belos simply puts him back to sleep and wipes his memory.
- Played for Laughs when a young Ayzee is pretending to be a doctor and opperating on Stringbean, with the Palisman using her shapeshifting abilities to make it look like she's had her chest sawed open. Camila is understandably disturbed.
- Body Snatcher: The Collector possesses Luz's body, causing her skin to turn yellow and blue, her eyes to turn red, and her hair to turn white. He then realizes that possessing Luz comes with some significant mental trauma.
- Bolt of Divine Retribution: Parodied when Boscha's electrocuted by a faulty plug, likely a result of Beta Luz praying for a way to hit Boscha after insulting her without getting in trouble.
- Born in the Wrong Century: Parodied in "Nuclear Solution", where Belos somehow builds a nuclear bomb using his "advanced knowledge from the 1600s".
- Both Sides Have a Point:
- In "Food For Thought", Eda points out that Tarak has no right to give parental advice regarding King, given that Tarak abandoned King. Tarak agrees to this, but also points out that Eda isn't much better- most parents don't let eight year olds run around naked with only a collar.
- When Ayzee wants to try out for the grudgby team, Amity and Luz have differing opinions on whether to let her try it or not. Amity points out how dangerous the game is, while Luz points out how much fun it can be. The two decide to compromise by letting Ayzee try out while wearing custom-made Abomination sports gear.
- Bouquet Toss: Raine does this during their and Eda's wedding, leading to several characters using their magical abilities to try and get it first. Luz manages to get the bouquet after everyone else gets knocked out from the skirmish.
- Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: In "Mind Reading", when the mind-reading amulet Odalia had intended to use on Amity is given to Hooty, Odalia is bombarded by a never-ending stream of Hooty's thoughts, which range from fairly mundane ("Bugs!" "I wanna roll in the mud." "My back is itchy.") to concerning ("Murder is okay." "Everyone I know will die before me.").
- Break Her Heart to Save Her: In this three part comic, Odalia convinces Luz to end her relationship with Amity to protect her from being apprehended by the Emperor's Coven and petrified. Amity and Eda, however, are having none of it.
- Breaking the Cycle of Bad Parenting: In the comic "Promise", while the two are playing games together Amity assures an infant Ayzee that she is going to raise her right. The language she uses pretty explicitly calls to mind how Odalia treated Amity when she was a child, specifically with Amity stating that she is going to do the opposite of what Odalia did. Pretty much every other comic depicting her relationship with Ayzee (whether the latter is a baby, a child, or a teenager) reinforces this, as she's shown to be a Good Parent outside of the odd bit of embarrassment.
- Breakout Mook Character: Explored in one strip focusing on Steve. After being chosen by one of the wri- er, gods, Steve gradually gains more and more unique traits that set him apart from the other Emperor's Coven mooks... only to be killed off later on. The writer explains that they wanted a martyr to motivate the gang, but that they didn't want to make it one of the main characters, so they just built up Steve over the course of the series so his death could be that motivator.
- Brick Joke:
- In "One last thing", Luz has to confiscate a book from a little kid for Malphas in exchange for him giving Amity her job back, the kid wanting to use the book to summon "The Dark Lord". Later, in "Equivalent", Gus compares the Internet to "The Dark Lord" before showing it to Luz. Years later In-Universe in "Grom Factor #7", Milan meets the same kid, now grown up and the new librarian now that Malphas has retired, still wanting to summon "The Dark Lord", and Milan helping her in exchange for the remains of a book on Grometheus.
- "He Died a Hero" has one of the past Golden Guards use his last words to curse Belos out, his spirit considering it Worth It. "Last Words" has Gus talk to Darius about how he accidentally saw said encounter via Belos's memories, that said Golden Guard was Darius's mentor, and that Gus felt Darius deserved to know his last words. Hearing it brings a tear to Darius's eye.Darius: Best. Use. Of Profanity. Ever.
- Bridal Carry:
- To repay Luz for helping with her injured leg, Amity works out to be strong enough to carry her after she gets hurt.
- Vee carries Masha after they fake getting hurt during a soccer game, which leads Masha to asking Vee out on a date.
- Bring It: In "Skara the Planner", Skara is planning Eda and Raine's wedding, and tries to cover all her bases. Everything seemingly goes well, until Boscha informs her that Hooty's eaten half the food and is swimming in the punch, which from there, problems keep mounting. Skara's only reaction? "...Bring it on."
- Bring My Brown Pants: When Jacob Hopkins attempts to capture Vee and bring her to the authorities, she transforms and declares she'll feast on his bowels. Jacob says he needs those before running away.
- Brutal Honesty: Emira doesn't hold back when Alador asks her and Edric if he's a bad father, adding they know he's trying to be better.
- Bull Seeing Red: In "Spider Bull", Willow assures Amity that the aforementioned creature is peaceful unless it sees the color red... right when Luz chooses to kiss Amity, making her blush.
- Bully Turned Buddy: In their adult years, Boscha states that her and Willow have become friends, though how close they are as friends has yet to be seen, especially since Boscha initially wanted her daughter, Jay, to see Willow's daughter, Pandora, as her nemesis.
- Bus Crash: Puddles is heavily implied to have died from a wound she received protecting Milan from a wild animal in the past.
- Butt-Monkey: The blonde cheerleader girl is often depicted being on the receiving end of Luz (and Vee's) various antics.
- By the Power of Grayskull!: Both versions of the Golden Guard shown on crystal ball do this, the western animation version directly referencing the Trope Namer and the anime version referencing Sailor Moon.
C
- Cactus Cushion: When Boscha falls off a ladder while putting up decorations outside of Hexside, Willow conjures up some plants underneath her to cushion her fall. Unfortunately for Boscha, this trope comes into play.Boscha: (angry and in agony, while Luz and Willow remove the cactus needles and bandage her) You. Did that. On purpose.
Willow: Sorry, but those are the softest plants around. - Call-Forward: In The Hexsquad story arc, Vee mentions that character arcs can take a long time and with someone like Boscha it will probably take her decades to work through all her issues. This lines up with what's shown in comics following the cast's kids, as Boscha is still kind of a snob as an adult even if she's significantly nicer than her teenage self.
- Canon Marches On: Happens fairly often, as Mark's comics are created alongside the actual series as it comes out. As a result, details appear that are contradictory to what happens in canon, such as Lilith using a time-traveling spell as opposed to Luz and her seeking out time pools or the impostor being actively malicious and being able to access the Demon Realm as opposed to being a scared basilisk who simply took over Luz's life because it was overall better than her earlier life.
- An example of this would be one take of how Eda and King met; this comic has King meet Eda in present day Bonesborough over splitting her lunch and drumming up business for her human junk stand before deciding to stay with her, when "Echoes of the Past" revealed that she found him as an infant 8 years ago on an island far off the Isles' coast.
- This comic shows Willow befriending Gus due to the latter trying to help her pass an abomination class assignment using his illusions and getting in trouble for it, a contrast to Willow helping Gus out of a panic attack when they were younger in "Labyrinth Runners".
- Also happens in the comics itself as it makes new strips that focus on those reveals. For example, Vee is shown going on a fishing trip with Manny, but later on he would be revealed as having died some time ago.
- Many of the comics made post-"King's Tide" but pre-"For the Future" that are set on the Collector ruled Boiling Isles are strikingly different from what would eventually be shown; The landscape is reduced to an endless sandy desert rather than more colorful, more child-geared. The Collector simply forces whoever they come across to play games instead of turning them into dolls/puppets for their role-play with King. Eda leads a nomadic resistance movement that consists of many characters who are either under the Collector's thumb, are holed up in Hexside, or are presumed to be turned into his toys.
- A very minor example comes in one comic, where Luz performs Bard magic thanks to placing a music note-shaped glyph on an electric guitar. Season 2 would establish that there are only four glyphs (light, ice, plant, and fire), and that the way to use them to perform other kinds of spells is through different combinations.
- Can't Hold Her Liquor:
- On Luz's 21st birthday, Eda gifts her some apple blood, now that she is of legal drinking age. It takes only one shot for Luz to get wasted enough to drunkenly admire Amity's many qualities very audibly to her girlfriend and fall over briefly before getting back up, to Amity's embarrassment, anguish, annoyance, and Eda's disappointment.
- Surprisingly, Eda is guilty of this in one comic. After being goaded to try it by Eda, Camila learns that the apple blood Eda loves so much only has 5% alcohol in itnote . Camila then breaks out a stronger drink, and Eda becomes so hammered, Camila needs Luz's help to get her home.
- Cassandra Truth:
- Eda abuses this to get away with being found by an aircraft pilot, telling them via Etch-a-sketch that they'd sound insane for telling their superiors that the detected UFO was a woman flying a broomstick through the air. The pilot simply says the UFO was a weather balloon to call off the search.
- Boscha tries to tell her mothers about Belos' plans to kill them all using the Draining Spell, but they dismiss it despite her protests, not acknowledging it until Belos activates it on the Day of Unity, at which point they are forced to admit to Boscha that she was right.
- Cast from Hit Points: Downplayed. Due to King's relatively young age compared to his father, it turns out that using glyphs now drain his stamina since glyph magic uses the corresponding Titan's magic. After informing Luz, she realised that last night when she made a heart out of many light glyphs, King collapsed to the floor due to exhaustion.
- Cast Full of Gay: In addition to the canonical relationships of Luz/Amity and Harvey/Gilbert, along with the canon Ship Tease of Vee/Masha and Eda/Raine being elevated to official status, many of MoringMark's comics have Ship Tease for other LGBTQ+ relationships, namely Alador/Darius, Gus/Mattholomule, Skara/Viney, Ayzee/Milan, and Pandora/Jay. The only non-LGBTQ+ relationships focused on tend to be Willow/Hunter, Camila/Manny, and Evelyn/Caleb.
- Catch-22 Dilemma: Played with in that it's Amity who sees someone else's options like this. Hunter talks about whether he would want Camila or Darius as his legal guardian, but when he brings up both options, Amity realizes that eventually, Hunter would still be her brother in some way, note leading to a massive Spit Take from her.
- Cathartic Crying: "Letting It Out", which is set after the ending of "Reaching Out", has Amity comforting Luz and telling her to not bottle up her feelings to the people she loves. She's soon cut off as Luz starts crying and falls silent as she continues to hold her.
- Cats Are Mean: Ghost can be mean when she wants, as Hunter experiences firsthand.
- Caught Monologuing: In "Abomatron", Kikimora, now working for the Collector, arrives to collect Eda and everyone else. Unfortunately for Kiki, she opens her Abomatron's cockpit, and while she's ranting, Eda shoots her with a sleeping dart.Kikimora: You mother-
(faceplants on the ground) - Cheer Up Episode: This appropriately named comic shows Ayzee being down after getting injured, so Ghost and Stringbean make her laugh to lift her spirits.
- Chew-Out Fake-Out:
- "Soda" has Luz and Amity having said drink, and when Camila catches them burping, this happens:Camila: Oh no, you two are not starting a burping contest-
Amity: (tenses up) Sorry, Mrs. Noceda. I-
Camila: ...without me!! (Amity is surprised and Luz grins.) - Hunter ends up getting called to Hexside after Pandora hit her Rage Breaking Point in a fight with a bully and beat up half of the student body. He seems annoyed at first, only to admit that he's very proud of her.
- In "Baby's First Weapon", Luz confronts Ayzee about attacking Tibbles with a fire glyph and looks ready to lay into her. Instead, she commends her for figuring out how to use glyphs for ranged weapons, leaving to tell Amity about it as Ayzee wonders if she's still in trouble, all while Jay puts the fire out by beating Tibbles.
- "Soda" has Luz and Amity having said drink, and when Camila catches them burping, this happens:
- Character Development: Played for Laughs. Luz's mental journey along with the time she was replaced with Vee is considered disturbing from an outsider's POV, as shown by her classmates witnessing it all.
- Character Exaggeration: Amity only ever showed talent for engineering during a single scene in "Clouds on the Horizon" in canon. Here, she's a full-blown Wrench Wench who followed in her father's footsteps as an Abomination engineer as an adult rather than the Adventurer Archaeologist she was implied to be in the epilogue.
- Childish Pillow Fight: Luz starts one with Amity and Hunter, but the latter two soon go after each other in actual combat that ends with them buried in feathers.
- Christmas Episode: "Perfect Gift" is set on Christmas, in which Camila comforts Amity about her ruined gift by telling her the happiness she gives Luz is better than any gift.
- Clone Army: In several comics such as this one, the Emperor's Coven has all their foot soldiers be clones of Steve, all of whom are named Steve. Belos even refers to them as his 'Steve Army' a few times.
- Closest Thing We Got: "He Missed" has Tiny Nose be hit by Belos' attack instead of Luz, resulting in the Titan sighing and giving her his power instead.
- Clothespin Nose Plug: In one strip, King develops motion sickness, covering Darius in vomit. Later, Darius lies covered with vomit, with Eberwolf disgustedly watching with a clothespin on his nose.
- Coffee Shop AU Fic: One strip, aptly named "Hollow Mind but, like, Coffee Shop AU or something", has Luz and Hunter working in a coffee shop with Philip as their senior coworker. Philip acts like a caring and encouraging mentor to Hunter, but is really faking so he can convince Bump to hand the coffee shop to him and then sell it to a big corporation. At least until he finds out that Luz and Hunter had overheard his evil monologue.
- Colony Drop: In "Running Out of Time", the Hexsquad returns to the Boiling Isles, only to discover the Collector found Eda's video game collection and, taking inspiration from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, gave the moon his split face and pulled it from the sky. They now have only two days (episodes) left to stop them before the moon crashes into the Boiling Isles and destroys it.
- Comically Missing the Point:
- At one point, Amity asks Luz to identify the flavor of her lip gloss while puckering her lips. Luz's response is to eye Amity's lips before asking Willow if she knows the flavor. After Willow states, that she doesn't know, it takes about a minute for it to click what Amity was attempting to insinuate.
- Raine tells Eda they have a crush on someone studying potions with long, puffy hair, talent in grudgby, and whose last name begins with "C". A shocked Eda assumes Raine likes Lilith instead of her.
- While attempting to incite an angry mob against "Marilyn", Jacob finally finds somebody who believes him about her using magic... since she used it to save her life after she was in a car accident. After a pause, Jacob asks "So, you are gonna help me, right?"
- Commonality Connection:
- After a rocky first meeting, Hunter and Hooty bond over their shared feelings of being unappreciated.
- On another occasion, Hunter relates to a stray dog who was probably abused by someone it trusted, and it comes along with him.
- This ends up being the reason why Luz received Alador's blessing to date Amity. Alador was as socially inept and Oblivious to Love regarding Odalia's feelings for him as Luz was in the human realm and with Amity's crush on her: he sees a kindred spirit in her.
- After Vee brushes off all of Hunter's attempts to help her and she accuses him of feeling indebted to her, he confesses she's right and that he's trying so hard because they were both created by Belos as expendable tools. This gets Vee to be a little open to accepting his help.
- After the Day of Unity, Darius and Alador come across Odalia working as a Fortune Teller and charging loads of snails for it. Darius asks if Alador misses her, and after he confirms he doesn't, the two share a moment of solidarity in both hating Odalia.
- Competition Freak: Lilith and Eda take a sexuality test set up by Masha, but Lilith wants to know if she somehow did better than Eda did.Masha: Congrats! You are ace with the possibility of being aroace. Here you go. (hands Lilith two patches that are colored like the ace and aroace pride flags)
Lilith: (looks at Eda, currently wearing a bisexual pride flag patch on her shirt) Does this mean I did better than my sister on the test, or what?
Masha: It's not a competition, ma'am. - Compliment Fishing: This comic shows Hunter faking his death in order to get a few compliments from Luz and Amity. Too bad for him Luz catches on and decides to pull a Batman Gambit by slapping him.
- Compulsive Liar: One of Luz's habits that the Collector inherits when he steals her body is a need to lie about their struggles so people don't worry about them.
- Cone of Shame: Hooty needs to wear one in one comic after he scratches himself too much, but refuses to go along with it. Luz manages to get him to wear one by dressing up as Kikimora for Halloween.
- Continuity Nod: Comics created during the post-season 2 hiatus do have a loose sense of continuity. For example;
- Most Earthside comics set after "Blending In" show the Hexsquad using concealment stones that Gus made to hide their ears in public;
- Ones featuring Eda that came out after "Skara the Planner" usually have her wearing a wedding band;
- Comics set after "Feeding Time" will occasionally show a palisman being fed through absorbing nutrients from a pot like plants.
- In "Spending Time with their Palismen", the family portrait of Luz and the Blight family from "...Now a Silly One." can be seen in the background.
- Contrived Coincidence:
- Once, Amity attacks a boy who flirts with Luz and they discover he's working for the Emperor's Coven.
- Parodied in "Post-Ending". When Luz and Amity go to a book signing for The Good Witch Azura, they meet the author, Mildred Featherwhyle, with Luz thanking her for changing their lives and revealing Amity is a real witch to her. Mildred then proceeds to reveal that she's also a witch from the Boiling Isles too, had moved to the Human Realm after Belos banned Wild Magic, has her own portal door, and owns a research paper written by Philip called "How to befriend the Collector in 5 simple steps". Luz is left exasperated that there was someone who had everything they needed the entire time, and they just happened to be the author of her favorite book series.Luz: You had solutions to all our problems this whole time?!
Amity: Luz, breathe. - Happens again in "Once A Fan...". Ayzee finds one of Luz and Amity's old Good Witch Azura books, and after Luz talks about moving on after the series ended (a nod to the fact that the comic was uploaded the same day as the series finale of the show these characters are from), Amity bursts in screaming to let her wife know that more Azura media was just announced, much to their collective joy.
- Cool and Unusual Punishment:
- After Luz, Amity, Gus, Willow, and King capture a Scout Captain, they try threatening to throw him into the Boiling Sea, melting him with King's sonic attack, dismemberment by vines, and experiencing an illusion of his worst nightmare. When he's unfazed by all of those, Luz decides to put him through something far worse: lame jokes from Hooty. Cue the Captain begging for mercy and the kids all becoming horrified at what they are doing to him.
- After capturing and bottling Philip in a jar while in the human world, Hunter and Willow are furious to learn that he killed his own brother for falling in love with a witch. So they get back at him by "acting" like they're dating, even holding hands to rub it in.
- Cool Old Lady: Eda qualifies to an even greater degree by the time the Hexsquad's kids are in high school than she did in the show (given that she actually is as old she looks now), taking part in underground fights and pretending to be a feeble old lady just to screw with Ayzee and her friends.
- Cosplay Otaku Girl: Luz and Amity are shown to still be "The Good Witch Azura" fans even after having Ayzee, but they take it even further in "Grom Factor", where #10 has Milan find them roleplaying as Azura and Hecate respectively, the two still wearing their cosplays when they pull their Big Damn Heroes moment in #13.
- Crazy-Prepared:
- On the off chance Vee's ever caught in public in her true form, Camila has a pair of memory tweezers stored away to erase the memory of whoever saw her.
- The reason Amity's reflexes are fast enough to counter Hunter's Flash Step is thanks to all the pranks she endured from her older siblings.
- Crippling Overspecialization: While Terra is far more skilled at plant magic than Willow, she's helpless in hand-to-hand combat, as the physically fit Willow demonstrates.
- Crush Blush: As is to be expected, Luz and Amity multiple times. Willow and Hunter get plenty of these post-"King's Tide" on Earth, & Vee and Masha also share one when they get together. In comics based around the Hexsquad's children, Ayzee and Milan have some toward each other.
- Crush Filter:
- After insisting she and Hunter are Just Friends, Luz explains she'll see when the sparkles and bubbles appear. Willow doesn't think it's real, but after Hunter protects her from a ladybug, she suddenly sees it around him, and realizes Luz was right.
- Willow gets some new perscription glasses from an optometrist. While everyone looks extremely detailed, Hunter in particular looks ruggedly handsome to her now.
- Cue the Flying Pigs: Boscha says she'll stop calling Willow "half-a-witch" when pigs fly. When Luz using Stringbean doesn't get her to say it, Eda kicks Tibbles over their heads.
- Culture Clash: In the Human Realm, exchanging jewelry is simply a friendly gesture or a cute thing between couples. In the Demon Realm, it's basically a marriage proposal.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: On one occasion, Jacob attempts to fight the Hexsquad, Masha, King and the Collector wearing his armor and armed with a taser. He ends up in a full-body cast with every bone in his body broken.
- Curse Cut Short:
- During Willow's Cathartic Crying moment under Hexside, Willow lets out more of her emotional hangups, including how she feared how Hunter was on the verge of death at the cemetery, and particularly how she was tired of getting bullied by Boscha. She then starts using an F word before we cut to a surprised Luz and Camila out in the woods, a shocked Boscha, Amity, and Matt in another tunnel, a stunned Lilith and Eda with King in front of them, and Belos-possessed Puppet Raine and Collector in his bedroom who are both perplexed by what they just heard.
Willow: BOSCHA CAN GO F-
(reaction shots)
The Collector: Woah, that's the loudest swear word I've ever heard!- When facing Grometheus, Ayzee activates her gamer gear. She is listed as level 8. Grom is level 45.
Ayzee: Oh s-(covered by the comic border) - Cute Monster Girl: When some trick or treaters question Vee's "costume", they don't believe she's actually a demon because "Demons aren't supposed to be cute". This statement moves Vee so much, the next panel shows her wiping away some of her tears after giving away all the candy in the bowl she had to the three trick or treaters.
- Cuteness Overload: When Luz meets Ghost for the first time, she can't help taking pictures on her phone every time the palisman does something adorable. Unfortunaltely she takes so many that eventually, the battery dies.Amity: Don't worry. My dad'll make you a battery of some sort.
- Cutting the Knot: Kikimora tries to immobilize Lilith with her coven sigil, however, due to the curse she's simply able to remove the hand the sigil is on.
D
- Damn You, Muscle Memory!: Gus tries to coach Hunter on how to properly hug with Edric volunteering, but he reflexively ends up attacking Edric with his hand-to-hand combat techniques.
- Dance Battler: "Shall We?" has Hunter and Willow pull off their own version of Luz and Amity's Grom dance, with Belos in place of Grometheus.
- Darker and Edgier:
- An alternate version of the Owl House is occasionally shown based on an earlier concept for the show, which was darker than what we have now, with Hooty being a much more feral predator that proclaims upon meeting Luz that he sees her as a thing to both play with and eat. This is still played for laughs regardless. Also the Demon Realm in this version might be the ACTUAL demon realm.
- One even has a Content Warning placed in front of it. It shows the creation of Hunter from his perspective as he wakes up earlier than Belos or the Collector expected, and starts screaming in horror at the sight of his body being nothing but muscle. The final page reveals it to be a nightmare Hunter is having before he gazes at the scars on his hands, implying a connection between the two.
- As of the Season 2 finale, most comics have been split between the Hexsquad's experiences on Earth and the witches' survival in the Collector's remade Boiling Isles. That said, there have still been comedic strips in the Boiling Isles.
- Date Peepers: When Willow and Hunter are on a date, Gus tries spying on them, only to find Darius doing the same next to him. They proceed to argue who should have the current spot they are at and get into a Wimp Fight that gives their presence away to the daters, who uncomfortably try to pretend that they are still unaware.
- Dating What Daddy Hates: Played straight with Odalia and initially downplayed and eventually subverted with Alador with respect to Lumity. The former clearly does not like the fact that her daughter is dating Luz the human and spends multiple appearances in the comics trying to break up the young couple. Alador, in one strip, is content with letting them date but makes clear that he does not fully approve of the relationship until a conversation with Luz causes him to realize they aren't that different, after which he gives his full blessing to the couple.
- Hunter and Willow use this to their advantage in another comic. When they capture the remains of Belos in a jar, their method of torture is to tell him that they're dating and make a show of holding hands in front of him.
- Dead Alternate Counterpart: Willow and Gus once knew someone named Lusine, a witch who looked very similar to Luz and was just as gung-ho about trying new things, as it turned out she apparently died a year ago after downing two bottles of human soda and a handful of mints.Willow: (somberly) She was so young.
Luz: (horrified) Yup, definitely sounds like me. - Dead All Along: One strip in the Alpha world has Belos explain to Luz that the "Demon Realm" is actually some form of Hell and that the portal door Luz remembered entering through was actually the headlight of an oncoming car that ran her over after running off in the rain and tripping on the curb. Also counts as Death of a Child.
- Deadly Euphemism: Subverted. It seems that Luz is using one, but she turns out to mean it literally, as in "take care of Stringbean while I'm gone".
- Deadpan Snarker: Turns out Gus mastered being one from watching Amity. Unfortunately, he doesn't know how to keep from mouthing off to the wrong person.
- Death by Despair: In this comic, after its companion dies, the Titan falls near its final resting place, eventually decaying into the Boiling Isles.
- Death Equals Redemption: In this strip, as Hunter delivers the final blow to Belos, Belos finds himself as Philip Wittebane meeting Caleb in a state of limbo. Caleb, despite being murdered by Philip centuries ago, still hasn't given up on saving his brother's soul and offers him a chance to make amends. Philip, moved by this offer, takes it and the scene cuts to Belos in the real world dying, apologizing to Caleb for everything he has done.
- Declaration of Protection: Since he knows he'll outlive his friends, Hooty convinces Lilith to let him make one for her as she lives out a long life. By the time she reaches old age, he continues to uphold this vow.
- Defeating the Undefeatable: "The Kissing Game" depicts Luz trying to score a point in a game where she and Amity sneak up on each other to give surprise kisses, yet it's difficult to sneak up on Amity. She manages to get a point when Gus tricks Amity with an illusion of Luz and Amity internally takes it hard.
- Déjà Vu:
- Amity gets this feeling when she sees Luz manage to charm an angry cat after a few seconds when she was initially hostile towards her.
- This comic showing Luz trapped in a "Groundhog Day" Loop pretty much speaks for itself with its title.
- Delayed Reaction: When Belos gets hit with a flaming arrow, he doesn't start screaming until his whole arm starts catches fire.
- Demonic Possession: Belos attempts this on Willow to break Hunter. It then turns out the Hexsquad wanted him to do that so he'd end up in an abomination and free Raine from their possession.
- Desperately Craves Affection: After being praised for learning how to drive in a single day, Hunter starts to do more chores around the house in order to get more compliments from Camila.Camila: Your friend really likes doing chores.
Luz: Nah, he just doesn't get compliments often, ...or at all. - Did I Just Say That Out Loud?: In "Willow with a Dark Side", when Gus describes the Gympie-Gympie plant, Willow fantasizes about using it to torture Boscha, into leaving them alone. She then notices her friends staring at her with horrified expressions, prompting her to ask this trope. They immediately confirm it in unison.
- Did You Die?: A variation occurs in the Pandora mini-series. When Willow and Hunter learn that Pandora had accidentally assaulted Jay with her head plant, they ask what happened to Jay, who immediately turns out to be sitting right near by and responds in a deadpan tone that "she died" and that it was "such a tragedy".
- Did You Get a New Haircut?: The shaggy-haired kid says this as Vee reveals her true form.
- Die or Fly: Downplayed. Upon returning to the human world, Luz has broken several school records during gym class. When Principal Hal asks how she got so strong, Luz remarks that it's due to summer camp. What really happened was that she poked a werewolf in the Boiling Isles and wound up running, swimming and cycling away from it.
- Died in Your Arms Tonight: The Titan's canine companion had been fatally injured by a wild canine Titan, dying as the Titan holds its head gently.
- Diplomatic Impunity: Inverted by of all people Luz, who abuses her diplomatic immunity to help Eda smuggle cheap beer into the Isles.
- Disability-Negating Superpower: Downplayed. Eileen isn't actually disabled in any way that we know of, but the fact that she lacks a mouth makes it difficult for people to understand her when she talks. Gus offers to help by tutoring her in illusion magic so she can conjure up messages for people to read.
- Disapproving Look: Implied to be made by Luz and Amity towards Hunter when he resorts to having Willow carry him to catch up to the couple in a three-legged race.
- Discriminate and Switch: One comic has Odalia tell Luz she doesn't want her to date Amity. Luz asks if this is because she's a girl, but Odalia doesn't care about that; she just thinks Luz is too low-class.
- Distant Reaction Shot: In one strip, upon being encouraged by Hunter to express her feelings, Willow declares she's tired of being bullied before yelling "BOSCHA CAN GO F-", with her yell being so loud that everyone on the isles hears her.Collector: Wow, that's the loudest swear word I ever heard.
- Distracted by the Sexy:
- Titan Luz, King, and the Hexsquad prepare to fight the Archivists... except for Amity, who's too distracted by her girlfriend's Titan form.
- After a tiring day at the University of Wild Magic, Eda wants to go on a picnic with Raine, but they decline as they're still working on the sigil removal procedure, and ask to reschedule. Eda conceeds, and decides to keep them company while they work. While in Harpy form. Raine caves.Harpy Eda: (smugly) Go on.
Raine: What are you doing?
Eda: What? I'm just sitting here, doing nothing.
(Raine glares)
(later)
Eda: Yay!
Raine: (blushing) I...I couldn't concentrate.
- DIY Dentistry: Apparently, having a cavity on the Boiling Isles is treated by having someone tie a string to the tooth and pulling it out with the force of a griffin, as Luz learns the hard way.
- Don't Call Me "Sir": After bonding with Steve, Lilith asks him to call her by her first name instead of "ma'am".
- Do Wrong, Right: "Morning Lecture" depicts Eda's time as Headmaster of the University of Wild Magic, with her classes specializing in this, teaching students to never trust authority or people in positions of power due to the nature of absolute power corrupting absolutely. None of her students actually showed up to the lecture though. Eda couldn't be more proud.
- Doesn't Know Their Own Birthday:
- One comic shows that Hunter never knew his own birthday because Belos never told him when it was, and he never bothered to ask. After learning this, Luz, along with Willow and Gus, decides to throw a little surprise party for Hunter. While he's unhappy at first, he eventually starts to enjoy himself and decides that he will celebrate his birthday every year on the same day as the party.
- Another comic has a similar idea with Vee, only this time, even though Luz found a file detailing when Vee was created, Vee decides against learning that information. Instead, she chooses to call the day she first came to the Human Realm and met Camila her birthday.
- Don't Ask:
- Amity has an abomination that follows her around and imitates her every move. When she tries swatting a fly, she lifts her book when it lands and tries to slam her book on it. Unfortunately, the abomination does the same and ends up whacking Amity herself on the head. Luz notices it, prompting Amity to respond with this trope.
- One comic is actually named this. During their battle at Eclipse Lake, Hunter gloats at how Amity can't land a hit on him while he's teleporting around her. The last time, she figures out where he'll be and hits him in the face with a frying pan. When he delivers the portal key to Belos who inquires about the new gap in his teeth, Hunter says he doesn't want to talk about it.
- Doofy Dodo:
- In one comic, Luz's Palisman egg hatches into this. While Amity assumes she would be disappointed, Luz loves it.
- The Collector finds one of these during a "game" Luz set up. Luz confesses that she only did it because of how clingy the Collector has been lately, and while the two have a heart-to-heart about spending time together, Amity is seen trying to keep the bird at bay.
- Double Date: A recurring setup for comics is Luz, Amity, Vee, and Masha on double dates at a diner in the human realm, like this one set on Valentine's Day.
- Double Take:
- After Luz, Willow, and Gus get expelled, Amity breaks her pencil in the middle of a class. Just then the image of Luz in the banned poster next to her hands Amity a pencil. Amity accepts it before realizing where she got the pencil.
- The title of one of Mark's comics, which also features an example. As Camila and Vee look at the flowers they got for Manny's death anniversary, the cheerleader girl walks by, only barely noticing Vee in her basilisk form before she switches back to Luz's appearance.
- Dramatic Irony: Amity finds a time pool and sees Luz making out with a purple-haired girl, pissing her off, unaware that it's actually her future self.Amity: Who's that purple-haired Witch?!
E
- Early-Installment Weirdness: During comics that came out during the show's run, Viney would occasionally be shown to be in a relationship with Emira. Post-series comics would quietly drop this in favor of the Viney/Skara ship, with the only connection Viney and Emira have being that the former's daughter is dating the latter's niece.
- Ear Worm: Luz sneaks into the Emperor's Coven with a speaker and puts Mariah Carey's "Make My Wish Come True" ("All I Want For Christmas") on a loop. Within a day, the castle succumbs to anarchy.
- Easily Forgiven:
- One evening when King invites the rest of Eda's family over for dinner, Dell tells Eda he was never mad at her for the Owl Beast attacking him. He tells her that she needs to forgive herself for what happened, and she promises to try.
- Lilith's Palisman still remembers Eda threw it into a wall in "Agony of a Witch", and promises that she will be the first witch to die in the Palismen Revolution. Lilith tells her it's hungry and Eda feeds it wood seeds. It decides she will live another day.Raven Palisman: Caaaw (I accept your offer.) Caww (You'll be spared-) Caaw (...for now.)
- Eat the Bomb: After Belos is defeated but a nuclear bomb he made is still armed, Luz and Amity seem resigned to dying via nuclear explosion. Eda however proceeds to draw an eye and legs on it, causing Hooty to show up and think it's a bug before swallowing it whole. After it blows up inside him, smoke starts coming out his beak as he looks more annoyed than anything.Hooty: That was no bug.
- Eat the Evidence:
- When Luz donates her Azura Vol. 5 to the library, Amity finds a drawing of Luz as "Luzura". Luz sees the back of the page has a drawing of Amity saving her from an Abomaton, and proceeds to eat the paper right as Amity turns it around.
- In "Records", when Eda is applying to start her own school, Darius brings up how, legally, someone with a criminal record, particularly one as extensive as Eda's, can not be allowed to start a school. So when he's about to mention the council's decision, Eda thinks he's gonna reject her application, and proceeds to grab her records, tear them up, and then eat the scrap, all while asking "What criminal record?" Darius then makes clear the council had decided to completely expunge her record and grant her permission, causing Eda to Spit Take and begin hacking up the paper she ate.
- Elopement: Parodied when Skara is introducing Viney to her father for the first time. Her dad clearly doesn't approve and being both a busy man and an apparent avid watcher of soap operas tells her to just fast forward to the part where she runs away from home so they can be together. Of course, this is then immediately subverted when Viney provides him with a lucrative deal of humanely sourced griffon hair harpstrings for his instrument business.Mr. Rosenkrantz: Well, we all know what's going to happen. I'm gonna bribe her into leaving you. She'll refuse and you are gonna hate me forever. Then you'll run away to be with her and live a life of your own. And I'll regret the whole thing on my deathbed. Something like that.
- Embarrassing Old Photo: Camila ends up showing a photo of Luz as a kid getting her head stuck in between some playground bars as a child among other photos in a photo album, much to Amity and Alador's amusement and Luz's embarrassment. After Amity wishes that she had embarrassing childhood photos like Luz's and mockingly laments she has none, Alador then reveals that he actually has one that he never showed anyone before, picturing Amity as a baby making an angry blush with Alador holding a red fruit with a similar shape and shade of red as baby Amity's face, causing the current Amity to blush and groan in embarrassment while Luz and Camila coo over Amity as a baby.
- Embarrassing Password: Amity offers to give some kids a tour of her lab. She tries to whisper the voice activated password to the lock, but it keeps on asking her to speak louder, eventually resulting in her having to yell "I love my fluffy otter girlfriend!" in front of the kids.
- Emotionally Tongue-Tied: Occurs here when Luz fumbles a gesture for Amity.
- Employee of the Month: Parodied. In "To Get the Magic Supply", Jacob is given the "Flat-Earther of the Month" award...by Elon Musk. It's really all part of a plan by Vee and her friends to steal Jacob's training wand for Vee to consume its magic.
- Entertainingly Wrong: While Gus and Hunter go to get some ice cream by flying on their staffs, Gus uses an illusion spell to disguise themselves by making it look like the two are just birds like the ones he read in a book. The only problem is said "birds" are pterodactyls so the two end up accidentally terrorizing the other citizens.
- Entitled Bastard: After explaining to a Wendy's cashier in the human realm why he is entitled to receive free coffee (in the form of his plans for the Day of Unity), Belos responds aggressively when the cashier insists on the expired status of his coupon.
- Even Evil Has Standards:
- Luz expects Odalia, Amity's snobby, Control Freak mother to discourage her from dating Amity on the fact that they're both girls, as she already has a history of unrequited same-sex crushes. Instead, Odalia disapproves of their relationship because Luz is poor and not classy enough, and she's appalled that Luz would think her gender matters. It's a subtle reminder that homophobia doesn't exist in the Boiling Isles, and a reminder that causes Luz, having been shamed for her bisexuality in the Human Realm, to tear up and hug Odalia's arm, much to the latter's confusion.
- An appropriately named comic has Odalia, Belos, and Tibbles playing cards in a Bad Guy Bar. After listing their crimes, they ask what the fourth person did. They reveal they're the one who leaked "For the Future". All three of them are rightfully terrified.
- After Odalia talks about how she'd exploit people's faith in King as a Titan to take over the Isles and become as rich as possible, King asks the Collector to turn her into a puppet. The Collector's response is "Ew, no."
- More just antagonistic than outright evil, but when the blonde cheerleader from Luz's school mocks Luz to her friends for having once had a crush on her, she makes a point of clarifying that she has no problem with Luz being a girl in that scenario (and that she herself would be completely on board with dating a girl), just "a weirdo".
- Even the Girls Want Her: In the first page of "Graceful", Selene is hinted to be attracted to Emira.
- Everyone Has Standards:
- When Matt demonstrates how to use a blender, thinking it's a weapon to destroy your enemy's fists, Skara and Boscha both look disgusted and horrified, and Boscha immediately seconds Skara's suggestion to ban it.
- Downplayed once. As Eda, King, and Raine stomp Belos to death, he asks for mercy by mentioning he never once misgendered Raine. For that, they stomp on him slightly slower.
- Everyone Knew Already:
- Luz tries to find the best way to tell her mother that she and Amity are in a relationship. By the time she decides on the video montage, Camila knows due to all the romantic moments she saw the girls having but still wants to see the video.
- After Stringbean hatches, Luz introduces her to her mom, her friends and "the most annoying dude in the world". When she tries to introduce Amity, Stringbean tells Luz she knows who she is already, to Luz's confusion. While Stringbean was still an egg, Luz and Amity made a game out of who could top the other's "I love you"s, to the point of annoying her before she was even born.
- Evil Is Petty: Hunter questions how Amity is always able to counter his teleport dash. Amity reveals that back when she was Lilith's student, she specifically taught her how to listen for the resulting airflow. Given how much Lilith dislikes Hunter and her smug face in the flashback, she presumably did this out of spite.
- Exact Words:
- Eda promises she won't let go of her staff while Luz learns how to fly: she detached her hand but since she didn't let go, it counts.
- After returning to the Human Realm, Luz is never to return to the Demon Realm. However, Camila never said anything about the Demon Realm coming to Luz, as the Owl House gang come over to the Nocedas home quickly afterwards. When Luz asks why she didn't say so in the first place, Camila says this is what Luz gets for lying to her the whole summer.
- The shaggy-haired kid got sent to Camp Reality Check because, in his words, he wanted to "be chill, all day, every day, 24/7 doing nothing, literally." Vee refuses to believe him because she imagines this trope is in play, citing that he's still doing things like breathing. He decides to take her up on this and show her that he can do literally nothing.
- Camila assumed Luz wanted to dress as Batgirl for Halloween, however, she meant a bat girl (as in a girl dressed in a baseball bat outfit).
- In a Human College AU, Odalia pays Luz to make sure Amity doesn't go out with any boys. Not that she was going to anyways; she's a lesbian and already going out with Luz. Luz just says Odalia paid her to make sure Amity didn't cheat on her with any boys when Amity asks.
- When asked by Vee how they already knew that she previously disguised herself as Luz, Masha revealed that when Jacob was fired, they got access to his surveillance footage, his notebook, his MewTube account, everything. Emphasis on the everything, as it included his car as well.
- When the Collector was about to break Luz's game console in response to losing again, Luz tells him that breaking things is bad and to break something small if he really wants to vent his frustration. One seemingly innocent finger snap later, a confused Luz asks what exactly the Collector broke. His reply?Collector: Meh, just some atoms. (cue nuclear explosion)
- When Hunter is practicing wood-carving, Willow comes by and she ask him to carve her anything. Hunter proceeds to carve out a block of wood that spelling out the words "anything". Willow laughs and accepts the gift. Hunter later that night berates himself for coming up with a stupid joke.
- Taking a walk with the Collector, Luz reminds them not to turn people into puppets. They come across Odalia shilling her new book claiming that she was forced to work for Belos but rebelled against him from within. The Collector gets fed up when she further claims to have been a mother figure to them, and proceeds to turn her into a Muppet, which they view as distinct from a "puppet".
- Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!:
- One comic has Luz recording a video of herself telling her mom about Amity. As she talks about how she feels weird around Amity and how Amity is pretty and cute, she suddenly puts two and two together.Luz: Okay, something is weird. It's just... I've been nervous around Amity this whole morning. I guess... I'm just a bit starstruck? After all, she's so brave, and talented, and classy- ...And beautiful and cute and- ...Uh-oh.
- A rare example of a character doing this while already upset. While chastizing Luz for forging documents for her witch friends, Camila realizes that everything she said Luz had to do in order to properly forge said documents was already done.
- When Luz explains the concept of a zoo to Viney, she realizes that she may have said too much to the animal-loving witch with beast keeeping capabilities.
- One comic has Luz recording a video of herself telling her mom about Amity. As she talks about how she feels weird around Amity and how Amity is pretty and cute, she suddenly puts two and two together.
- Extraordinary World, Ordinary Problems: This is used as a Bait-and-Switch when Pandora accidentally hurts Jay after snapping at a Jerkass noble. At first, it's thought that the plant in her head is messing with her emotions, but then it turns out that she just inherited her mother's temper.
- Extreme Omnivore: Hunter learns that he is one when he went to stay with the Bat Queen, who promptly force-fed him a book.Hunter: ...aaand that's why I decided to stay here instead.
Willow: Huh, I thought Grimwalkers were part Palistrom wood?
Hunter: Yeah, that book was delicious. ...but that's beside the point. - Eye Scream: A Titan's attempt to feed its baby goes wrong when it accidentally pokes the baby in the eye with the baby bottle.
F
- Face Death with Dignity: Darius graciously accepts the apology from the other Coven Heads when they realize the Day of Unity was meant to kill them all. He also calls it "a bummer", but is content that he at least tried to stop it.
- Face Doodling:
- Luz does this to Hunter as payback for threatening her life to get the portal key from Amity.
- Eda selects this as a punishment for Odalia regarding her attempt to guilt Luz into ending her relationship with Amity. Alador performs a Spit Take upon seeing the results.
- Face Palm: In one strip, Luz finds the other half of Amity's Grom note when it blows into her face. However, she reads it upside-down, thinking that it says "Znf". Cue Willow, Gus, Skara, Boscha, Belos, and even Camila (who is in the human realm and is completely unaware of Luz's error) responding with this trope, while Amity sighs in relief after tensing up for a moment.
- Face Your Fears: After returning to the Human Realm, Luz hesitates to enter her home and see her mother. Luckily, Amity joins her as to repay Luz for helping her face her own fears.
- Failed Attempt at Drama:
- Belos tries to explain his plan in a classic dramatic villain monologue to Eda, Luz, and King when they confront him, only for Hooty to keep interrupting him with a joke, to the point where he screams and collapses in frustration while Luz offers her sympathies and pats him on the shoulder.
- His attempt to task his scouts to reinforce the Titan's butt ends up not working, for obvious reasons.
- Failed a Spot Check: At one point Camila and Luz had to trick Vee into noticing a family photo featuring her as it had been up for several hours and she'd missed it entirely.
- Fair-Play Whodunnit: Parodied in one strip. When Gus is investigating who could have killed Kikimora (she's just lying face down on the airship they are in with a dagger embedded in her back and in pain), Hunter arrives on the airship, pointing out that anyone can just come and go onto the ship using their staff, meaning anybody could be the murderer, much to Gus' horror. Meanwhile, behind him, the suspects (Luz, Amity, Eda, King, Willow, and Steve) are each equipped with a weapon out of nowhere, preparing to take their turns killing Kikimora.Hunter: (to Steve) Can I join?
Kikimora: (Reaching out in agony) Help. - Fake Ultimate Hero: As King looks further along Tarak and the Titan Trappers' wall art, it becomes clear that it was all just a Self-Insert Fic.
- Family Theme Naming: Viney's pet griffin Puddles is shown to have a little sister named Muddy.
- Famous Ancestor: In "Well that explains Ayzee's freckles.", it's revealed that Amelia Earhart is Amity's great grandmother, having found herself in the Boiling Isles after her real life disappearance.
- Fan-Created Offspring: Comics set post-series tend to depict Luz/Amity, Willow/Hunter, Boscha, and Skara/Viney having daughters named Ayzee, Pandora, Jay (Boscha Junior), and Milan, respectively.
- Fantastic Fantasy Is Mundane: Played for Laughs. The Human Appreciation Society plays a tabletop RPG where they roleplay as ordinary humans and do things like argue with baristas about their membership cards being expired.
- Fantasy Counterpart Appliance: Discussed by Gus, who notes how most technology on Earth seems to have Demon Realm counterparts. Although he doesn't consider Penstagram to be the internet equivelant, but rather the Dark Lord, who dispenses unlimited knowledge at the cost of slowly driving people to madness and eroding their sense of morality.Luz: Okay yeah pretty much.
- Fantasy Helmet Enforcement: Played for Laughs when Luz is in a bike chase with a werewolf, with both of them wearing matching skull-shaped helmets (which results in the one the werewolf is wearing being far too small).
- The Fatalist: Selene explains to Luz and Amity that she already knew the Day of Unity would happen a year in advance but didn't say anything because she also saw that everything would work out just fine in the end. That, and it's impossible to change your own future.Selene: I already know how my life will turn out... what job I will take... how I will die... and we all can't help but follow the script. Because free will is an illusion and we're all slaves of time! [broken laughter]
- "Fawlty Towers" Plot: After one of her classmates accidentally sees a picture of Vee in her true form, Luz claims that it's just a giant plushie. When the classmate wants one for herself, Luz has to make one herself, and right when it seems like the situation was resolved even more classmates want plushies too, meaning Luz and Amity have to make dozens of them.
- Fearless Fool: Luz is regularly shown to be very fearless when it comes certain challenges... which ends up resulting in bodily harm for her. One such incident being "Classic Luz", where she attempts running up a track that loop-de-loops despite Amity practically begging her not to. She manages to turn upside down before gravity kicks in and she nearly breaks her neck, only avoiding any real injury thanks to Amity summoning some Abomination goo. When retelling the story to Camila later, Amity has to thank Camila for keeping her alive this long, with Camila asking Amity to keep doing the same.
- Fight for the Last Bite: Hunter and Willow have an arm wrestling match to decide who gets the last French fry, though the twist is that since they were both offering the other to take it earlier, Willow winning the match means Hunter gets to eat it.
- Finger Poke of Doom: Averted twice. In one comic, for a moment, the Collector almost does this to Skara, but Boscha manages to call a time-out before the Collector can touch her. In another, the Collector is about to do the same to Amity, and prompting Luz to jump in the way. Though the Collector does tap her on the nose, it ends up being harmless, as the god-child simply wishes to force people to play games with them forever, and goes to hide, as Luz is now "it". The girlfriends take advantage of the situation and leave the Collector in his hiding spot, pretending to struggle to find them.
- Flipping the Bird:
- It's not shown onscreen, but the Titan flips Belos off for deliberately mistranslating it. Belos is sure that it's a thumbs up.
- After capturing Stringbean, Belos tries to destroy her and absorb her essence. He fails when Stringbean turns into a hardshelled turtle, and proceeds to rub it in.
- Flower-Pot Drop: Invoked by one of the guys bullying Pandora, who throws a pot down onto her head.
- Following in Relative's Footsteps: If this comic is anything to go by, Eda really will take up palisman carving from Dell one day.
- Forced Transformation: In an early comic, Boscha turns Luz into an otter and Willow goes after her to make her reverse it.
- Forgiven, but Not Forgotten: When Luz demonstrates a 'make plummeting object float safely instead of going splat' (Safety Hover) glyph combo, Lilith expresses amazement and asks what inspired her to create it. At which point Luz wordlessly side-eyes the woman who hurled her off a bridge into a spike-lined abyss mere months ago.Lilith: Oh, right. Forget I asked.
- For Halloween, I Am Going as Myself: In one comic, while the other kids get ready for Halloween, Vee plans on going trick or treating in her regular basilisk form. In another comic, Vee hands out candy to trick-or-treaters in basilisk form.
- Found Family: As in canon, Amity prefers the inhabitants of the Owl House and their surrounding allies to her natural home, much to Odalia's confusion.
- Foul Waterfowl: During his time in the Human Realm, Belos tries to find a new host while near a lake. Unfortunately, the only thing nearby is a Canadian Goose, which begins chasing him the second he grabs it.
- Freudian Excuse:
- Boscha used to be a victim of bullying herself, due to being a three-eyed half-demon half-witch hybrid, so she decided to start fighting back with verbal assault to make sure nobody would mess with her ever again. On another occasion, Willow realizes Boscha keeps bullying her because she's jealous that Willow seems to be better at everything than her.
- In one comic, it's implied that Odalia suffered through the same kind of abuse she puts through Amity; just as she was about to slap her daughter, she sees Luz come to her defense. That triggers a flashback in which a younger Alador did the same thing for her. Realizing what she was about to do, she starts crying and eventually leaves the room.
- Freudian Slip:
- Luz finds out about Amity's feelings for her while reading an Azura fanfiction she wrote, because Amity accidentally wrote down Luz's name instead of Azura's when narrating her OC's secret crush.
- When Luz is demonstrating how to use a glyph combo to form an ice cube, Amity shows up to greet Luz. Luz ends up conjuring a statue of her and Amity dancing. Cue them blushing.Amity: (blushing) Am I interrupting something?
Eda: (amused) No no, this is getting interesting. - While Luz relates to Amity that in spite of the fact that there are multiple realms out there that she could of wandered into and many people she could have met, in the end, it was Amity she met and fell in love with, Amity is charmed by her speech and whispers to Luz to marry her in the heat of the moment. Luz doesn't fully pick up on it and asks for a repeat to which Amity nervously denies having said anything.
- When she discovers the glyph combination for Abomination magic, Amity holds Luz's hands to help her learn to mold the Abomination she created, but because Amity was so happy to be this close to Luz, the Abomination started to trying to kiss her.
- Gus excitedly informs Luz that he bought a gun of all things. When he clarifies he bought it from an old woman at the grocery store, Luz realizes he bought gum.
- As Luz carries most of the groceries she, Camila, and Gus bought from the market she ends up saying the weight is about two-thirds of Amity's, so Camila figures her strength comes from carrying her girlfriend in her arms. To Luz's (initial) embarrassment, Gus proceeds to continuously make cracks about it until all their friends know, including Amity.
- The Friend Nobody Likes: Boscha's aware she is this to a degree once; after she gets drunk during Cat's birthday party, Cat calls Amity to come to pick her up since Skara and Amelia have already left. While under the influence, Boscha calls herself a loser since she had to be picked up by someone who doesn't even hang out with her anymore.
- Friend-or-Idol Decision:
- "What if TOH was a Telltale game?" ends with one; Luz either gives Belos the portal key to save Amity's life or destroys it and let Belos kill her.
- After their divorce, Alador negotiates full custody of their children with Odalia, letting her keep the manor, Blight Industries, and all their profits from the company. Odalia also demands his bug collection, and Alador very briefly considers it before Amity scolds him.
- The Friends Who Never Hang:
- At one point, Skara and Amelia make time to hang out with Luz and Willow for an afternoon instead of with Boscha.
- Discussed in one comic. Amity goes over to Willow's house to ask for advice on what she and Luz could do for their next date. When Willow asks why she would ask her about this, Amity admits she needed to find an excuse to hang out with her. Willow is more than happy to do so, and the two decide to have a sleepover that night.
- Another comic points out how awkward it is for Hunter and Vee to interact by themselves, given how Hunter used to be the Golden Guard and Vee was created by the Emperor's Coven.
- Fun with Acronyms: Back when she was still at Hexside, Eda was forced to help Principl Faust set up a training program for students, and Faust allowed Eda to pick a name for it. What name did she go with? Superb Hexside's Incredible Tournament, or SHIT. As soon as the name is revealed, most of the students start laughing.
- Furry Reminder: While Boscha is bonding with Severine, she finds the latter likes having her neck scratched, and even starts purring in response.
- Future Imperfect: The Bonesborough library's museum wing has multiple mislabled objects as a consequence of Belos' half century long rule leaving a lot of gaps or edits in the official record. Enna manages to land herself a job there since she's a native of the time period and can correct the inaccuracies.
- Fuzz Therapy:
- Stringbean tends to invoke this. In one comic, she turns into a cardinal for Hunter to nuzzle since Flapjack is gone and he now lacks a palisman. In another, she takes a cloud-like form for Luz to squish when she draws a blank on her brainstorming to rebuild the Boiling Isles.
- Viney's pet griffin, Puddles, serves as this to Camila in one comic, in exchange for some human realm dog treats.
- A variant occurs when Vee lets Masha hug her tail, which, according to Masha themself, is incredibly comfortable.
Masha: It's... like, hugging a cloud.
G
- The Gadfly: One comic has Luz and Amity acting sweet and affectionate around each other for the sake of annoying Boscha.
- Gargle Blaster: One comic has Eda attempt to do this to Camila by having her drink apple blood, only for her to be unaffected by it due to the drink having an average of 5% alcohol content at most. Instead, Camila introduces Eda to a flaming tequila shot, and Eda gets instantly smashed after one glass.
- Genre Savvy:
- The glasses kid chalks their reaction to Vee being a basilisk to plot twist tolerance from writing fanfics with plots like this for years.
- In one comic, Luz notes that Eda should be fine and the plan to sabotage the Draining Spell should go off without a hitch as long as she doesn't raise any death flags. She then proceeds to announce that this is her last mission before retirement, ask Darius to explain the plan in great detail for no particular reason, shows the CATS her family photos, tells Luz she's taught her everything she knows and caps it all off by asking What Could Possibly Go Wrong?, as Luz's confidence in her survival, naturally, drops to near zero.
- A comic named this shows Luz to be genre savvy yet again, as when she and Amity go to investigate the shack and the sounds coming from it, the moment Belos' slime starts dripping from the ceiling Luz tells Amity not to look up, saying that the monster will only attack once they look up. With this in mind, they safely leave the shack with Belos unable to harm them.Belos: Dang, she's good.
- Ghost Reunion Ending: Parodied when Manny is shown watching over Luz and Camila, only to get shocked when he notices Caleb watching Hunter and Willow.
- Gilligan Cut: When Darius questions if Raine is sure no one knows they're about to invade Belos' mind, Raine assures him that no one knows and no one can hear them on the castle roof. We immediately cut to Hunter in his room below with a cup of coffee and an annoyed expression.
- Girls Stare at Scenery, Boys Stare at Girls: At first partly inverted in "Cliche"; While riding on Puddles with Skara, Viney calls Skara beautiful as she admires the sight of the raised Left Arm. Viney, who panics when Skara catches her staring, deconstructs the trope by saying she was parodying it and Skara calls it the "king of cliches".Viney: [To herself in her mind as she laughs for a long time] Viney, you effing coward.
- Given Name Reveal:
- Luz and Amity's daughter was initially unnamed, but it's eventually revealed in "Baby's First Weapon" that her full name is "Ayzee Noceda-Blight".
- Similarly, Hunter and Willow's daughter is eventually shown to be named Pandora in "Hideout".
- Glasses of Aging: Multiple post-series comics show Luz wearing glasses by the time her daughter is a teenager.
- God Guise: In "Not Technically Lying", Vee tries to apply for Gravesfield High, but since she has no birth certificate and no legal documents of her existence, Principal Hal almost rejects her, until Hooty appears and declares that Vee attending the school is part of the almighty's plan, scaring Hal into accepting her. We see that they accomplished the Holy Backlight using a flashlight and Hooty was hiding in Vee's backpack.
- Gone Horribly Right: To get Principal Faust to lay off his strict rules, Eda tries to set him up on a date with Terra Snapdragon. The two hit it off and Faust no longer rules Hexside with an iron fist... because he left to join Terra in tormenting children and abusing power across the Boiling Isles.
- Good Cop/Bad Cop: Willow's parents act as this, as Harvey states that the more Willow hates him, the more she listens to Gilbert. Willow asks them to stop, saying she doesn't want to dislike either and doesn't like the idea of it.
- Good Parents:
- Amity promises baby Ayzee that she'll be one in this comic.Amity: Look, I might not be the best mom in the world, but I promise I'll never hurt you. I'll never make you feel worthless, I'll teach you good morals, and at the same time, I'll let you make important decisions on your own. And most importantly [pecks Ayzee on her head], I'll always be there when you need me.
- After everything that's happened, Alador becomes one over time, merely having faith in his children or being there for them being good enough.
- Amity promises baby Ayzee that she'll be one in this comic.
- Gossip Evolution: While discussing their relationship, Willow reveals she already knew Hunter had a crush on her. He asks how that's possible. As it turns out, he talked about his confusion over his feelings for Willow to Flapjack, who mentioned it playing a card game with Ghost, which she mentioned to Emmiline Bailey Marcostimo, who eagerly told Clover. By that point the confusion part had been lost and Clover buzzes to Willow that Hunter definitely has a crush on her.
- Grammar Nazi: King asks Tarak why he didn't just send Eda a message instead of mailing a letter. He reveals that he did try that first, but Eda blocked him after she used "you're" instead of "your" in a sentence and he corrected her. King is exasperated.

- Under the guise of wanting a rematch in a witch's duel, Amity asks Luz out by arranging her fallen abominations to spell out "Will you be my girlfriend?" Luz is blown away and says "yes".
- In another strip, Luz uses a number of light glyphs to create a heart shape on Amity's lawn. Unfortunately, upon learning that King is drained whenever she uses glyphs, she realizes this caused him to keel over out cold.
- Greater-Scope Villain:
- Combined with Sequel Hook. "Ready for the Battle" depicts the Archivists as this, the Collector returning to the Boiling Isles to warn of their incoming arrival and declaring they need to keep them away from King, with the Hexsquad preparing for a major fight as a result... sans Amity who is too busy being enamored and having her Jaw Drop over seeing Luz in her Titan form.
- Comics focusing on Ayzee's teenage years have the Titan Trappers set up as this, with multiple mentions of the possibility of a war between them and the Boiling Isles on the horizon.
- "Groundhog Day" Loop: Luz traps herself in one after seeing Hooty shedding his skin. Unfortunately, after taking a sip of a memory potion to erase the minute she saw Hooty to write a note for her to not look outside, the full minute passes, and she ends up entering the room, as the beginning demonstrates her coming out from a yellow cloud, further showing that she has done this multiple times already.

- Hartman Hips:
- Played for Laughs in one comic, as they prevent Odalia from jumping in a Mini-Mecha to fight Luz for her blessing. Alador had made said armor for a younger Odalia and never updated it, much to her indignation.
- In "Bodies Change (And That's Okay)", Amity is preparing for a date with Luz and wants to wear a cute outfit from when they were younger, but gets distressed when she realizes she's too wide for it now. Luckily, after crying about it to Willow, she rushes over with Hunter, who uses his sewing skills to retailor the outfit for her new shape.
- Haunting the Guilty: Played for Laughs in the appropriately titled "Haunted" comic, where much like in "For the Future", Belos is haunted by the specter of his murdered brother Caleb. Caleb comes out to haunt Belos while he's doing incredibly mundane tasks, such as using the bathroom or trying to watch Bleeding Hearts on a Crystal Ball.
- Haute Cuisine Is Weird: In one comic, Camila questions why Amity, who came from a wealthy family, enjoys her common food so much. Amity then has a flashback to a dinner Odalia had served them that the chef claimed was the "finest food snails can buy"-a pitifully small meal of baby kraken tentacle, middle right toe of a wood troll and selkigris sauce.

- Jerbo's knowledge of plants is so vast that in the future, he becomes a physician specalizing in caring for the flora of the Boiling Isles.
- While Camila is a fan of Cosmic Frontier, she also has a hobby of drawing digital fanart. Her audience is so big that not only does she get an offer of $100-150 when drawing some emergency commissions to raise money so Luz and the Hexsquad can order some pizza, the news of her returning to drawing fanart leads to Cosmic Frontier trending on social media.
- Adrian may be a colossal narcissist, but he was geniunely loyal to Emperor Belos after being taken in by him as a child.
- Hidden in Plain Sight: When Luz tries to find a proper disguise for Stringbean to use in the Human Realm, Amity suggests she act as the hood for Luz's cat-eared hoodie, which works well.
- Hilariously Abusive Childhood:
- Hunter, at the ripe old age of 5, was used as a living shield and flail by Belos.
- Odalia also inflicts this to Amity as an infant, having the family abomination butler feed her milk and slap her and pin her to the ceiling with abomination goop when the baby girl bothered her among other things. It takes discussing her childhood with Luz for Amity to realize how poorly she was raised.
- Hiroshima as a Unit of Measure: Played for laughs. Luz manages to carry a bunch of groceries in a single trip, noting that they only way 2/3 as much as Amity, leading the rest of the Hexsquad and Camila to start teasing her by using it as a measurement for everything else.

However, when they get to Hooty, not only do they learn his power level is 1,500,000,000,000,000, Hooty is somehow able to tell that the Archivists are watching him, shooting them a Death Glare that freaks them out.
- How Dad Met Mom:
- Apparently, Camila met Manny in school when she wrongfully punched him thinking he left graffiti on her locker.
Camila: Turns out his friend did it and he was trying to clean it before the principal found out. Ah, memories.- Another comic has Manny standing up for Camila after she was tricked by some of the popular kids at school into believing she was invited to a costume party.
- Humanlike Animal Aging: The echo mouse that ate Philip's diary is shown to still be alive in the company of the Noceda-Blight family 20+ years after Luz first caught it, which would be well over 4 times the average lifespan of a real mouse.
- Humans Are Bastards: Amity is happy that Belos is dead and glad bigots like him aren't a thing anymore. Luz apologizes on behalf of the human race when she learns that, despite being 400 years ahead of Belos, modern humans aren't too dissimilar to him.

- Hypocritical Humor:
- When Selene sees people getting fortune cookies, she complains that it's pseudo-magic. The irony is lost on her.
- Eda gets a nice chuckle out of Amity blushing while walking with Luz to Hexside. Lilith points out that Eda did the same with her crushes, but Eda denies it only for Raine to show up. Cue Eda doing as Lilith described.
- When she is resolving Luz and Camila's issues with one another, Eda tells Luz to be honest with Camila while telling Camila to let Luz make her own decisions. The former points out that Eda instructed Luz to cheat in a witches duel while the latter points out that Eda forced Luz to steal during their first meeting.
- Luz comments to Amity how obvious it is that Hunter has a crush on Willow and that she can't figure out how Willow doesn't notice something so obvious. Amity just gives her a look, upon which Luz realizes who else matches that description...Amity: (smiling and patting Luz's hand) Don't worry, it happens to many people.
Luz: (stunned and staring into the distance) Looking back, we were so lucky that it all worked out for us. - Amity reprimands a customer for trying to steal a cardboard cutout of Luz when the latter becomes a bestselling author, only to do so herself.Amity: (at home, dumbfounded by her own actions with a just as dumbfounded Luz having returned with groceries) I usually have very good self-control...
I

- I Choose to Stay:
- After getting all the knowledge she can out of Philip's diary, Luz brings the echo mouse back to the library. When she gets back home, she finds it stowed away in her hood, not wanting to separate from her any more than she wanted it to.

- I Resemble That Remark!: Hunter is insulted when Darius says he's not as confident as the last Golden Guard and decides to prove him wrong by asking Willow out. Hunter chickens out and asks her if she'd like some tea.
- If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: Amity does not spare any details on her grudge against Hunter and how she will kill him if he does anything to or against her and her friends.
- Imagine the Audience Naked: Invoked by Gus: he was unable to imagine his audience (the teachers serving as judges) in their underwear during a talent show audition and used an illusion to do so. It just led to a Naked Freak-Out and landed him in the detention track.

- When the Emperor's Coven raids the Blights' home, Alador augments Luz's faulty blue jay Palisman, bringing it to life and giving it the ability to turn into a mechanical glyph projecting gauntlet as opposed to turning into a staff.
- Matt assumes that a blender he found at Gus' house can be used as a weapon, using a not dog to demonstrate how it be used to catch punches and tear off arms, much to the horror of Skara and Boscha. Interestingly, one of the items Matt found from Gus' house was a gun, yet he brushed it off in favor of the blender.
- I'm Standing Right Here: An apple blood-wasted Darius and Alador talk about how Darius decided to let Alador end up with Odalia when they were younger, due to her overbearing nature, all while Odalia annoyedly sits next to them and points out her presence to them.
- Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: Belos is occasionally written like this, suffering everything from a lack of hair spray to being Surrounded by Idiots to being overthrown by Hooty. The key word being occasionally as the comics are also quite capable of showing him as quite capable and threatening.
- Instantly Proven Wrong:
- Played for both humor and heartwarming in this comic. Seconds after Hunter sobs that no one cares about him, Darius and Willow both show up to rescue him, and not only do they actually fight about who is the better option for protecting him but Amity shows up on Luz's behalf for the exact same reason, changing Hunter's tears to ones of joy.
- Played for Laughs in "Watching and Screaming". When the Titan is watching over King from the In Between Realm as if he's watching TV, he says Eda is "such a cool mom" after her little "weirdos have to stick together" moment. He then changes to view another moment, only to see King and Eda try William Telling with the apple on King's head... and Eda using a harpoon. The Titan ends up having a Spit Take as a result.

- Interrupted Intimacy: One comic has Milan entering the Noceda-Blight house to warn Luz and Amity about their daughter fighting Grom, only to interrupt some kind of Good Witch Azura-themed roleplaying.Luz: Let's face it, you could have run into something much, much weirder.
- Interspecies Romance: In addition to the canon examples, there's Ayzee (human/witch hybrid) and Milan (full blooded witch). Admittedly, Ayzee doesn't really have any choice in the matter since she's the only known living Half-Human Hybrid in the setting. note
- In Vino Veritas: Due to drinking apple blood, Eda admits to Raine (who while still in puppet form could hear everything she said) confessed that she regret letting them go and practiced proposing to them. When Raine is freed from both Belos and the Collector, they say yes which leaves Eda confused, then mortified.
- Ironic Echo: Camila is initially hesitant, to try some of Eda's apple blood, only to be goaded into it after Eda claims she's "Too cool to party". After Camila chides Eda for her poor choice of booze, she convinces Eda to try some tequila with the same phrase.
- I Think You Broke Him: During one evening, after Odalia insists that Amity change back her hair color, Alador proceeds to state that Amity wishes to keep her hair color and that he agrees with it. To deflect Odalia's rage, he also reveals Amity no longer wishes to join the Emperor's Coven or any coven in fact, that they went to the Bonesborough Brawl instead of coven tryouts, Amity is dating Luz, and Edric and Emira are joining the Bad Girl Coven. Before he can add more, Amity stops him and points out that Odalia is now stammering with a Thousand-Yard Stare.
- It Was a Gift: It's shown in "A Little Hint of Blue" that Skara recieved a pen from Viney as a birthday present which she has a good deal of sentimental attachement to despite it being such a last minute gift. It's later shown that she's still carrying it around by the time of the show's epilogue roughly four years later, using it when she asks Raine for an autograph.
- It's a Costume Party, I Swear!: Camila falls victim to this prank in one comic, dressing up as Captain Avery from Cosmic Frontier. Thankfully, Manny pretends to be a villain from the books, and the two leave together.
- It's Okay to Cry:
- After seeing how depressed Luz is about her father's death, Amity tells her she doesn't have to always be strong as Luz starts crying soon after.
- Skara finds Matt sitting by himself and tearing up over pictures of Steve, so she plays some music on her harp to allow him to cry without worrying about the others hearing.
- It's the Journey That Counts: Subverted for laughs. As a reward for saving the Boiling Isles, Darius was going to give the Hexsquad a large amount of snails. They at first decline because, as Luz says, the friendships they all made together were reward enough. Then Darius reveals the snails were coming from Odalia's confiscated personal account, and we cut to the squad chilling in piles of treasure, Luz noting the not-dogs they bought with her money tastes extra delicious.
J
